this won’t be coming out this week like i initially planned, but it will be coming out next week on the 23rd instead!!! i want to finalize some things a little more and give myself a little break afterwards while i have stuff pre-written so i don’t end up burning myself out (both online and irl). it’s gonna be a good one, trust 🫶
the ukais and their dynamic have so much nuance and potential it makes me want to flip furniture. they love each other so much, they just can’t navigate each other’s personalities. they’re too different and too similar. they would sooner fight all the time than admit that all they do is worry about each other. their relationship is so full of love and dislike and disappointment and pride and its all so GRRR
Yakuza a Japanese organized crime syndicate similar to the Mafia. They're monsters who feed off of power, violence, and money.
They're monsters who hunt the strong and make them weak, they're monsters who feed off the cries and the begging, monsters who are incapable of love. You've seen them, heard them, touched them and yet they don't even bat an eye.
Keishin Ukai the most lethal monster of them all and now you're engaged to him.
Series page/Next chapter
They’re a massive family with 6 groups and he is like the “primary” leader of them all, you think. You were a little bit stunned to see that there were girls in the gang who are badass and intimidating. It sounds weird now that you’re thinking about it because here you’re assuming the worst. You question how they will respond when Tiana gets here.
I noticed they keep weapons throughout the building likewise, they smoke a bunch which is an issue when an infant is going to be here. “I’m going to have to address this to Ukai—Oh shit...I have to see his intimidating ass again” perhaps I can speak to one of the groups instead of him. It’s not that he is unpleasant person well he does slaughter people, but I can tell that he wouldn’t mistreat me or Tiana. Hopefully.
Tiana arrives in 2 days from her grandmother’s house and I can’t wait to hold her again. I am anxious about her being in this environment with weapons, drugs, cussing, etc. I hope they will comprehend that there will be an infant around here. I don’t want to intrude on their daily schedule, but there are things that Tiana can’t be around, so I need to speak to each groups including Ukai. “Damn it, I’m starting to get into my head. Maybe they’re not like that” you said, out loud with clear frustration.
Maybe I should sit them down together- my thoughts had gotten cut off when there was a knock on the door. There was a silent pause until a raspy voice spoke “It’s me, Ukai. We have to talk real quick” god forbid right now Ukai.

SUMMARY.
Y/N was all too familiar with the yakuza life — during her childhood, she was trained and molded to become the next leader. And now many years later, after establishing a normal life, she finds herself once again roped into the affairs of a notorious gang. Don’t be mistaken though… if Y/N is gonna play someone else's game, then she's damn sure gonna play by her own rules.
important note!! there is the implication of a panic attack in this part so if that makes u uncomfortable, please do not continue reading! i am sorry in advance if i offend anyone by the way i write out the panic attack. i have not experienced one before and am basing the information solely on research i have done beforehand as well as the experiences of my friends. and for anyone who has experienced a panic attack, U R ONE OF THE STRONGEST PEOPLE EVER!
“geez, the school needs to start providing free umbrellas or something!” coach ukai exclaimed. he stared at his two players and team manager– tetsu, kozume, and yn were all dripping wet and shivering from the intense weather. “we’re ending practice a bit early so just grab a towel and dry yourselves up a bit or go take a quick shower in the locker room so you at least don’t catch a cold before the game next week.”
“yes, coach.” the three nodded, quickly making their way to the showers.
“yn!” mori called out, running up to his friend with a hoodie in hand. “change into this after so you’re not cold.”
yn eyed the material, smirking once she realized who it belonged to. “did rinnie give this to you?” she mused, “ohoho, so are you guys talking or what?”
“oh shut up, go take a shower. you smell like wet dog.” mori grumbled, shoving the hoodie into yn’s arms. yn giggled, thanking mori before heading into the girls locker room.
(note: guys.. i don’t actually ship mori n rin LOL js a disclaimer bc ik (or im pretty sure) they like haven’t met in the actual series…? they’re more of a sub-plot like cece n tetsu bc i love side character lore! anyways back to the storyyy)
once yn was done freshening up, she joined coach ukai and mr. takeda on the bleachers to talk about the game. "the team is looking good," coach examined. he watched as the players went up against each other in a quick match. "i just don't know what to do about kozume and keiji." he rubbed the back of his neck, deep in thought as he analyzed the papers yn gave him last practice.
"what do you mean?" yn asked. she didn't recall writing anything weird about the two.
coach ukai shrugged. "maybe it's because i've known these kids since they were freshmen, but something just feels off between the two. i compared your notes from the beginning of the semester to last week, and there's a slight decline in their abilities."
yn furrowed her brows, taking the papers from coach ukai to see the difference herself. "a decline?" her eyes scanned the data and much to her surprise, he was right. kozume's agility went down by 2.5% and keiji's been struggling to successfully set the ball up for kou which puts the team at a big disadvantage since kou is normally always on the court and has the most trust in keiji to send him the ball.
(note again: idk what i js pulled out of my ass w this one >o< i don’t play volley but wtvr! :3)
"speaking of kozume and keiji, where are they?" mr. takeda piped up. tetsurou finished showering at the same time as yn and was currently talking to a few members, assumingly giving them tips for next week, but kozume was still nowhere to be seen. there couldn’t have been only one working shower right?
"bokuto!" coach ukai called out, "where's your setter?"
"uhh-" kou looked around, "not on the court, coach!"
keishin groaned. "well, obviously.."
"keiji is in the locker room, pretty sure.” kei answered instead. he heard the setter excuse himself to grab something in the locker room, but what would he need in there when they usually dropped their things off on the bleachers? the middle blocker shrugged it off, not caring too much about his upperclassman.
“uhm i think kozume is also still in there.” shoyou added. his eyes met yn’s, both of them starting to feel a bit uneasy after talking about the two last night. “do you want me to go grab them?” keishin sighed, motioning for shoyou to retrieve the two missing players.
as shoyou neared the red-painted metal doors, his ears picked up keiji’s voice. he sounded annoyed. really annoyed. “you can’t be seriously telling me you won’t leave yn alone, right? right? kozume c’mon,” keiji laughed in mockery, his voice was getting a bit louder, but not loud enough to reach the ears of the other people on the other side of the gym. “you’re just going to keep hurting her. she doesn’t deserve that. you don’t deserve her.”
“like you have any place to talk,” kozume barked back. though not as aggravated as keiji, kozume was firm with his words. “you made yn feel unimportant the whole time the two of you were in a relationship. you were the one who had an interest in her first, yet you barely took the time to show any effort. you couldn’t even go to one of the most important events in her life! she worked so hard, she always does, for the annual art exhibition, but you forgot about it.”
“i had an important meeting that day-” keiji tried to reason.
kozume only scoffed. “oh please.”
“okay. fine.” shoyou could hear heavy footsteps. keiji was corning kozume into the lockers. he pressed an accusing finger against his chest. “missing the art exhibition was a dick move, but am i the one who’s going for their friend’s ex? am i the one who would publicly reject yn, yet give her mixed signals behind closed doors, continuously confusing her and manipulating her feelings? am i the one who can’t make up his mind, slowly declining yn’s mental and emotional well-being? no, kozume, i’m not. you are. know your place. yn doesn’t need you.”
it was quiet for a few seconds before shoyou could hear keiji’s footsteps walking toward the door he was pressing his ear against. in a quick panic, the ginger hid behind a nearby scoreboard until he saw keiji far enough to where he wouldn’t see the worried sophomore slip into the locker room.
“kozume!” shoyou cried out. the blond was in a fetal position on the floor against the lockers. he rocked back and forth, the frantic movement almost causing him to hit his head against the hard metal. his breathing was short and unstable, almost like he was choking. it was even more difficult to breathe due to his strained cries. the state of his close friend made shoyou sick to his stomach, his body trembled, not knowing what to do. “what- whats happening?!” he tried to prevent kozume from accidentally injuring himself, but once his hand made contact with kozume’s shoulder, the blond slapped his hand away.
“don’t touch me!” he cried out. his eyes grew in panic, everything around him was overwhelming him past his limit.
shoyou fell back at the sudden impact, “kozume-”
“i’m sorry,” kozume dug his head back into his arms. “i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry-” he repeated the same words over and over again, each apology more desperate than the last. ‘i hit shoyou? why did i hit shoyou?’ “i didn’t mean it- i didn’t i-” his voice was restless, saying the same thing over and over as his mind grew louder by the second. ‘i hurt shoyou. i hurt yn. i can’t stop. i don’t know what to do. i can’t stop. it hurts. everything hurts. i hurt yn. my heart wont shut up. it’s so loud. everything is so loud. please shut up. please shut up. shut up. shut up. shut up-’
“kozume i don’t know what to do!” shoyou sobbed. the situation was getting to much for him, he needed to call someone for help. “i’m going to get yn, she’ll know what to do-”
“SHUT UP.” shoyou stopped in his tracks, body cold at the sudden yell. kozume’s head jerked up at his own words, disbelief written across his face. was he the one who yelled that? “please don’t get yn. please- shoyou please.” he was tirelessly begging. tears constructing his vision enough to not even know if shoyou was opening the door or not. “please. please don’t call yn. i don’t- she can’t know. please. i’m sorry i yelled. i’m sorry- just. just- don’t move.”
shoyou slowly removed his hand from the door handle. his movements were slow, scared that he might suddenly alarm kozume again. he squeezed his eyes shut, breathing long and slow to calm his nerves so that he could at least provide some sort of ease to kozume. “okay…” he whispered, slowly opening his eyes. shoyou bent down to kozume’s level, leaving a foot of space between them as he tried to calm the blond’s nerves as he just did his own. “it’s okay koz. it’s okay.” continuing the breathing exercise he was previously doing, shoyou used his hands to motion each inhale, each hold of breath, and each exhale.
“i’m sorry.” kozume murmured, unable to meet shoyou’s gaze. he was slowly regaining stable breathing, the pain in his chest diminishing.
“don’t apologize!” shoyou scolded. “i’m the one who should say sorry, kozume.” the ginger choked back his tears, refraining from overwhelming his friend. “i didn’t know what to do and i couldn’t help you..”
kozume shook his head, “you did help, sho. thank you.” a small smile graced his features, reassuring his friend.
the two sat in silence for a few minutes until shoyou decided to let his curiosity flow free. “kozume, can i ask you something?” the blonde nodded. “what's happening between you and keiji? and why can’t yn know about this? why are you hiding it from her?”
kozume let out a weak laugh. “that’s more than just a something.”
“sorry, i just don’t get it!” shoyou whined. “yn likes you, a lot, and i thought you really like yn too. so why are u letting keiji get in the way and talk you down like that? why are you so afraid of letting yourself be happy?”
the familiar question rang through kozume’s mind. a previous conversation from tetsurou suddenly resurfacing.
“are you afraid of letting yourself be happy or something? look, i’m not saying you should’ve prevented keiji from asking yn out, but you’ve liked my sister since what? the second grade? and you just let some new guy sweep her off her feet? that’s just crazy, man! i know for a fact that he could never have the same connection you and her have, trust me, i’m like psychic or something. i know you’re the better person–- the only person, actually, for yn.”
“it’s not that…” kozume groaned. “i’m afraid that…if yn and i do become something more than what we are now, i’ll disappoint her more than i already do. what if, once we start dating, she realizes she doesn’t actually like me?”
shoyou frowned. keiji’s words were dug deep into kozume’s heart. nothing he could say, no amount of reassurance could ever directly change kozume’s mindset. it needed to come from her–
knock. knock. knock.
“sho? kozume? are you guys okay? i- uhm we’re getting worried…you two have been in there for a long time, is everything okay?”
there she was. the only person who could dissolve all of keiji’s cruel words from kozume’s distraught soul.
“sorry, we’ll be out in a sec, nn!” shoyou called out. he reached a hand out for kozume to take. “are you okay to go outside?”
the blonde took a deep breath. “we have a game next week, don’t we?” he placed his hand on shoyou’s, pulling himself up.
the two opened the door to reveal yn’s big doe eyes brimming with concern. “what happened? did you lose your towel? was the water too cold?” she enveloped kozume’s hands into her own, feeling the difference in temperature. “if you didn’t have any warm water, you should’ve told us! taking a cold shower after being soaked in the rain isn’t good for you!”
“hey!” coach ukai irked, already frustrated that kozume would only have less than an hour to practice. “stop feeling the boy up and let him get his ass to work!”
yn’s eye twitched at the suggestive assumption. she quipped her head at keishin and flipped him off. “shut up, old man!”

Karasuno's practice had just finished and your boyfriend was exhausted after dealing with his students for hours without a break due to an upcoming match.
You expected him to arrive late, or even forget about the little date you wanted to have with him at the park. Yes, it's weird to have picnic dates so late on the night but you really were hoping to spend more time with him.
Your gaze fell to the bouquet of white camellias. Which is said to represent an innocent love, just as if it were an infant's love. It's also said it symbolizes feelings of esteem, gratitude and adoration.
Thus being only a portion of all your feeling towards Ukai, who's been your companion through bright and dark, an escape from routine in any capable form the word encages.
Watching him at some of his trainings, as a student and as a teacher has made you feel really proud of him and the way he cares and observes every little detail on everyone is fascinating.
His way of cheering you up or making you laugh through tears, it's all precious to you. So you thought of a way to make him see it.
He did arrive a little late than agreed, but it didn't matter to you.
Rising from the blanked spread on the grass to your feet with the flowers on your hands behind your back, you smiled brightly at him.
"Sorry for the delay" he said panting a little, just to try and wrap his arms around you to envelop you in a hug. But you had to stop him.
"Close your eyes for a moment please" you said, watching him carefully as he raise a brow in suspicion but obeyed.
You pulled out the bouquet to smile once again "Here! For you!".
He opened his eyes and saw the posy of white nature being bathed on the moon's light, just as your closed eyes from the big smile that formed by and for him and only him.
After you explained to him what your research for a perfect present made you buy, through some home-cooked meals prepared hours before your cute reunion, Ukai couldn't help but laugh at your innocence and effort for the perfect date you were living right now.
"What a vice it is to look at you when you smile".
1. “This man is a true collector! He has never once seen something and said no. Jobs? He's got at least 50 and counting. The wildest outfits you've ever seen? He'll buy them in a heartbeat. Wacky ideas? He's never heard of a bad one. Things In Jars? He has a whole room for them, of course. Children? He adopted his nephew and is probably halfway through the papers for Morrigan. I'd bet that he's eyeing the rest of the Hotel, too.”
2. “he’s so!!!! ok so the main character of the series is morrigan, and her blood family sucks ass. they hate her guts and also she has no friends. she is very lonely and believes that she will be lonely until she dies at a young age. until jupiter comes along!!! he’s really the first person to tell her that she’s worth something and that cares about her. and usually he doesn’t patron people (sponsor their education and mentor them) but he’s her patron <3”
3. “He loves his kids so much. He broke the law many, many times and nearly got arrested quite a few times for the happiness and safety of his children”
4. “He’s a gay ginger madman with a rainbow flag for a wardrobe and the ability to see anything you’re feeling. What more do you need?”
Keishin Ukai:
“One day ur a lonely 20-something working at the local corner store, the next ur a single dad and rookie coach to 14 wayward teenagers.”

-Last Time-
“Right. First and foremost…receiving.” Ukai says addressing everyone.
“If you can’t do that, you’re useless. We focus on that starting tomorrow!” Ukai continues.
“Yes, Coach! Thank you very much!”
“Don’t forget your cool-down stretches.”
“Okay, guys! Stretch out!” Daichi instructs.
“Yeah!!”
“Graaaah…” Ukai sighs.
“...? Are we really so terrible at receiving that it’s worth that heavy a sigh?” Takeda asks.
“Nah. Yeah it’s bad, but… that’s not what I was thinking.”
“...?”
“Back when I was a player and I was on the side that got picked to play, I never gave it any thought, but…when you’re on the side that does the picking as a coach…you can get stuck with some real tough decisions.” Ukai says while looking at Suga and Kageyama talking.
“...”
“Clean up now! Hurry!” Ukai yells.
“Yes, Coach.”
On your way to help clean, you see Hinata looking off into the distance. Just as you’re about to check on him, he speaks.
“Asahi-san!”
“? Yes?”
“I…I’m no Ace, but…I’m gonna be the Greatest Decoy…so that I can open up the way for the Ace!” Asahi looks at him surprised.
‘Way to go Hinata!’ You think proudly.
“Oh! Um! I still can’t do that without Kageyama’s setting though. But, uh…um…ah…uh…er…ummm…”
“Listen, um… It’s usually the wing spiker playing on the outside left that gets labeled the Ace, right? So that’d be me or Tanaka.”
“? Right.”
“Yeah, hitting through triple blocks and getting most of the sets when things get tough… that’s all part of the Ace’s job. But getting your setter to say something like that about you? I think that’s pretty awesome too.”
“...?”
“Uhh…so umm…yeah. A-Anyway! What I’m trying to say is…despite whatever position anybody plays…don’t you think the coolest player is the one the other team watches out for the most? Like if they said “Watch out for that small middle blocker! He’s crazy fast!” and stuff.”
“!!!” Hinata nods ferociously.
“If you want my spot, I won’t let you take it that easily.” You smile at the two.
“Yes, sir!!”
“Um…that’s assuming I get to be back in the starting lineup though.” You deadpan.
“Geez, Asahi! You are so timid for such a big guy.” Suga chuckles.
“It’s good to have you back too…Suga.” Daichi says.
“I’m sorry I was such a wishy-washy, namby-pamby, fidgety-flighty, indecisive wreck.”
“I wouldn’t go that far.” You chuckle. “And it’s good to have our reliable libero back. Right, Noya?”
“Yeah!” The libero answers enthusiastically.
“But no more smacking the vice principal around and breaking stuff, got it?” Noya freezes and has an embarrassed and scared look on his face. “Oh yeah. I guess we got our wuss of an Ace-only-in-name wing spiker back too. I’d almost forgotten.” You giggle at Daichi’s words and Asahi’s facial expression.
“Right. Let’s finish this off and call it a night, folks!” Ukai announces as all the players gather in a circle while you, Kiyoko, Takeda, and Ukai stand to the side.
“Karasuno…Fight!” Dachi cheers.
“Yeah!”
“Oh, Coach.” Takeda says getting the man’s attention.
“?”
“These are the team’s managers. This is Shimizu Kiyoko, a third year.” He introduces, gesturing to the girl, who bows.
“It’s nice to meet you.” Kiyoko says.
“Same to you.”
“And this is (L/N) (Y/N), a first year.” Takeda gestures to you. You bow and then look up to see Ukai has a look of disbelief and hope. When he sees your face fully his expression turns to recognition and shock.
“It’s nice to see you again, Keishin-san.” You say shyly. This surprises Takeda.
“You two know each other?!” He asks.
“Yeah. My gramps used to teach her when she was younger…”
“Don’t forget you would help too.”
“Yeah, you were a terrible student.” He smirks.
“Hey! No, I wasn’t. You were just a bad teacher!!”
“Whatever you say, kid.” You give him a playful evil look. You then get serious.
“So, how is he?” As you and Ukai talk, Kiyoko and Takeda go their ways to let you catch up. The team sees you two talking and wonders if you know each other, and if so, how.
“Okay. Next up…the training camp. Right?” Ukai asks.
“Right.” You reply.
-Bonus-
You’re walking home with Hinata Kageyama, Tanaka, and Noya when Hinata speaks.
“Hey, (Y/N)...”
“What’s up?”
“So I saw you talking with Coach before we left…”
“Okay…What about it?”
“W-Well, you looked like you know each other…”
“Oh!” You giggle. “ Yeah, I know him. His grandfather used to teach me when I was little.”
“Really?!” Hinata, Tanakam and Noya ask. You laugh at their reaction.
“Yup! Keishin-san helped Coach Ukai from time to time as well.”
“Wow! That’s awesome!” Hinata says before he starts asking a million questions. This leads to Kageyama getting annoyed and yelling at Hinata. You laugh as you watch your four friends chat and bicker.
‘I can’t believe I found such amazing friends.’ You think.

Series of silly silly meme redraws I did to try and get myself back into doing art.
Media description under the cut. Please do not repost or edit my art.
[Media Description:
This post features fanart for the anime and manga series, Haikyū!!
There are five images. The first image is a redraw featuring Hinagarasu, the little crow version of Hinata. He is being pursued by a hand holding a pair of metal tongs, with a panicked expression on his face. At the top of the image, in impact font, is the word "salad".
The second image is a redraw featuring Kageyama Tobio and Yachi Hitoka. Kageyama is in his team jersey while Yachi is in her school uniform. She says to him happily, "I like your gay pride shirt!"
The third image is a redraw of a Twitter screenshot. The original tweet, from Hinata Shōyō, reads, "I literally have one dollar to my name right now." Below is a response from Tsukishima Kei, who says, "What's your Venmo?" And underneath that is a final response from Hinata. His comment says, "NOOOOO!!!!" and attached is a screenshot of a Venmo notification, which reads, "Tsukishima Kei requests $1.00 - The last one."
The fourth image is a redraw of a Facebook screenshot. The status, posted by Ukai Keishin, reads, "If y'all see my volleyball team at pride, DO NOT INBOX ME... I already know," with an eye-rolling emoji and a sighing emoji.
The fifth image is a redraw from the TV series Grace and Frankie. Yamaguchi Tadashi leans against a freezer door in a convenience store, holding a tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. The subtitles read, "Have you ever wondered if Ben and Jerry make more than ice cream together?"

Last chapter/Next chapter
Your heart started pacing and you could feel yourself getting sweaty. “ he is here already” you thought to yourself as you were pacing back and fourth. Calm down. “Yea, come in” you stood far a way from the door as possible. It felt as if time was going slow when Ukai walked in, you couldn’t lie that Ukai was hot and had a hot body. “I wanted you to get comfortable before we had this conversation, I just need to talk about rules and what is off-limits,” he said, clearing his throat a little.
“Yeah, I got some um things to ask or say,” you said, with a shaky voice. Don’t you dare show weakness. “That’s fine, Rule 1 you are not allowed to go in my office, upstairs, West Wing and North Wing as well as the basement, Rule 2 don’t be surprised if there are nights or days that you can’t leave this place, not trying to trap you just means it’s unsafe outside, Rule 3 respect goes both ways, Rule 4 don’t touch the weapons, and rule 5 I’m the boss what I say goes.”
He looked at you as if he was testing to see if you would say something or disagree with the rules, but “I can deal with that as long as you can deal with mine” you said, confidence growing and you started getting closer. “There will be a baby in here, she’s still young so she is a crier, a screamer, and is messy. I need to know if my child is going to be safe amongst you guys.”
This is your baby, Y/n don’t let her down. “I don’t want smoke or cigarettes near my baby, I don’t want random people touching my baby, and don’t get mad at my baby or me for allowing her to be a baby” You now faced to face with him and he leaned down to your height as if you were 5, it pissed you off. Ukai moved his hand to fix your sleeve that was sliding off your shoulder and showing off your bra strap, causing your heart to flutter. “Deal, just know who runs this place”.
At this point, all you wanted was to be isolated and get away from him. You went to walk away into the bathroom but you were stopped when you felt a hand around your wrist and the hand jerked you back. “Never told me your child's name” I know because I don't want her around this anyways you thought. “Tiana, her name is Tiana. Now let go of my fucking wrist” you said, ticked off, and kept trying to get your wrist out of his hold.
Ukai chuckled at your struggle, he was fucking enjoying it. Sick bastard. Ukai finally let you go thinking that you were in the clear, you continued to the bathroom. You were about to open the door when you felt a tug on your hair causing you to fall back; you felt severe pain as Ukai had a powerful hold on your hair. Ukai let out a loud laugh as if he was making fun of your actions and he looked down at you “I forgot a rule, you don't ever cuss at me” he said, each word was another tug from his hand and another painful hiss from you.
He pulled you back, hard, which led you to fall on your ass. You stayed on the ground for a couple of seconds before he finally left the room. He slammed the door on purpose—fucking bastard. When you felt comfortable enough you got up and went into the bathroom, looking at yourself in the mirror with a thousand thoughts running through your mind only one stood out. What have I gotten myself into?
warnings: nothing really just profanity, mention of murder and guns.
The entire car ride was silent. You never thought you would see Keishin again, nor did you expect your day to be put on pause just because he demanded so. With every passing second, the urge to strangle him with his seat belt grew but he was lucky that you were sitting in the backseat and under the watchful eyes of one of his goons.
In the stillness, you took in more of his features that you failed to notice before blonde hair, piercings, and enough tattoos to spare. “Ya know Kei, this look that you have going on… it suits you. It really screams delinquent.”
“Yeah, and you still look as stuck up as ever. I guess working hard without daddy’s money didn’t change that attitude of yours” And there it is, the same old Keishin that you hated since the day you met him. You didn’t have the energy to go tit-for-tat with him so you just stare out the window and pray he doesn’t say anything else.
Eventually, you reach your destination: a parking garage across the street from a hotel — the exact hotel where your father, Oshiro Kenji, was murdered. Keishin drags you out of the car and finds a spot where you can see the crime scene, which is littered with cops and investigators. If he had a reason for bringing you here, he needed to spit it out and fast.
As if he could feel your impatience bubbling, he finally speaks. “Five bullet wounds. That’s how many bullets actually hit the old man.” He pauses to retrieve a cigarette from his pocket and places it between his lips. “Compared to the number of casings on the ground, I would say whoever did this is a shitty marksman.”
“What the hell are we doing here Keishin? Whatever it is you’re trying to get at, I don’t care and I don’t want to be involved.”
“That’s too bad princess, but now that your father is gone everything related to the Sansokuu is now your responsibility. Congratulations.”
You kiss your teeth in annoyance. Who was he to tell you what to do? For right now though, you’ll just go along with it, letting him believe that you’ll obey his every command. “You still haven’t answered my question of why we’re here. So could you stop wasting my time and get to the point?”
“Look, we both know these dumbass cops aren’t going to figure out who did it, and they sure as hell won’t know everything that went down. Plus, something’s not adding up…”
Before he could continue, a cop ducks below the yellow crime scene tape and makes his way over. He takes a moment to double-check his surroundings and slips a sealed evidence bag into Keishin’s hands as he walks past. “Then there’s this.” Keishin holds up a necklace with an oddly shaped pendant. “Oshiro had one just like this and was wearing it when he died. So this means someone close to him did this.”
Instead of focusing on whatever he just said, you were shocked at the secret exchange that had occurred right before your eyes.
“Don’t act so surprised. You know as well as I do that we have people on the inside. How else would Oshiro get away with everything he did?” He turns the necklace over in his hand, smoothing his thumb over the intricate details of the pendant. “As I was saying —
“Keishin, If you’re proposing that I help you solve your little gang’s murder then the answer is no. I don’t have time to play detective with you, and if I didn’t make it clear before, I don’t give a single fuck about any of this.” You turn to walk back to the car, but a strong grip on your arm stops you in your tracks.
“And why should I believe that you didn’t kill him? You have a motive and there’s the fact that Oshiro never conducted business outside of Miyagi in person until he called you and came here a month later to make a deal.” He tugs you closer, and the horrible smell of his cigarette fills your nose as you try to lean away. “So you really want me to believe you’re not connected to his death?”
“You have five seconds to get your hands off of me.” Both of his hands are locked onto your arms as you try to wiggle free in his vice-like grip.
“Oh yeah? Why should I?”
“Because I didn’t kill him you asshat! But I will kill you if you don’t let go of me.”
He jostles you again. “Forty-eight hours — that’s all you get to find me something and prove you didn’t kill him.”
There’s no time to argue back because he drags you back to the car, recklessly shoving you into the backseat as he had done prior. This time, though, he doesn’t climb into the passenger seat, he stands outside the car to instruct the driver. “Take her home. Call me if she gives you any problems.” He eyes you, fuming in the backseat as you plan out how to approach all of this, and then he disappears off into the garage.
