Went for a wander up the hill. Daffodils are out, which is lovely.
Also getting an angle on how inaccurate Apple Health is. The app reckons I did 5km walking on a route that's 3km one way - measured by driving and Google maps.
When Mrs H and I go walking together, she usually does 15-20% further distance than me. I know her app is recording a slightly more accurate distance (again based on using Google maps and routes checked by car).
My current theory is my long, uneven stride is throwing my iPhone off, it's an SE and I walk *really* fast.
Still, I'm more interested in relative day-to-day activity rather than absolute distance covered, so I'll live with it.

Sunday 28th Jan
A more chilled day today. Got up at 8 which felt magical. Lovely walk with Maggie and it was actually kind of mild and hazy and sunny and it felt like spring might be thinking about maybe making an appearance! There are daffodil buds peeping out already 🥹

Everything is getting greener and I love it. We've gone back to 60mph winds tonight lmao but this morning was lovely.
Repotted Matt's grandma's succulent that we gave her and his mam gave back to us after she died. It was just plonked on the top of the soil with no roots?? Idk if it had been dropped or something at some point but it also had some babies so I'm trying to save those to grow one for his mam for mother's day and the other for his brother.
Also took a stick home for my cheese plant to climb up bc she has officially outgrown the kitchen window and been moved to the living room but she was all lopsided so hoping she'll grow upright now

Had lunch and went to see my sister and the kids. We walked the dogs and then took the kids to their dad's and me and my sister walked again and had a good catch up. It was a lovely afternoon ❤️ Came home and made peanut butter "pad thai".. which wasn't really anything like pad thai but it was pretty tasty anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

Now going to read my book in bed for half an hour and get to sleep bc I need to pick my sister in law up for work in the morning at 6.45 🤢🤢

Tiffany Petre is the director of The Obesity Collective — the peak body for obesity prevention in Australia. She says the health system has spent too long telling people that "if you're fat, it's your fault". Weight stigma, Ms Petre says, can have a greater impact on people with a disability, who for a range of reasons, already find the health system difficult to access and navigate. And when considering higher rates of obesity in regional and remote areas, Indigenous communities and for people trying to make ends meet, she says it's clear there are other factors at play. "Some of the people who would particularly benefit from treatment to help manage obesity and health may be least able to afford weight management support. Of course, we all have a major role to play in our own health and wellbeing, but we have set people up to fail and then blamed them for it ," she says. No matter your size, eating healthy food, managing stress, getting enough sleep and keeping active by doing something you love are key factors for long-term health, she adds.
‘Have you experienced weight stigma? Body shame and blame highlights a problem in our health system’, ABC

noticed a dip in posts about palestine on my dash, so i think it deserves to be said again: palestine is not a trend. caring about genocide is not a trend. there are still reports about humanitarian aid trucks intentionally blocked off from gaza, meaning so many fucking gazans, a big portion of them children, are just bleeding out with no help. it just came out recently that israelis disguised as women and medics infiltrated a west bank hospital, at which point they killed 3 palestinians (whom they claim were militants. right). these people are living day to day without even the most basic utilities. anyone who claims to have “activism fatigue” needs to question why they’re so severely lacking in the most basic forms of compassion. you don’t get to just grow bored of talking about palestine. please never stop calling attention to the genocide happening full force in front of us.

probably time for this story i guess but when i was a kid there was a summer that my brother was really into making smoothies and milkshakes. part of this was that we didn't have AC and couldn't afford to run fans all day so it was kind of important to get good at making Cool Down Concoctions.
we also had a patch of mint, and he had two impressionable little sisters who had the attitude of "fuck it, might as well."
at one point, for fun, this 16 year old boy with a dream in his eye and scientific fervor in heart just wanted to see how far one could push the idea of "vanilla mint smoothie". how much vanilla extract and how much mint can go into a blender before it truly is inedible.
the answer is 3 cups of vanilla extract, 1/2 cup milk alternative, and about 50 sprigs (not leaves, whole spring) of mint. add ice and the courage of a child. idk, it was summer and we were bored.
the word i would use to describe the feeling of drinking it would maybe be "violent" or perhaps, like. "triangular." my nose felt pristine. inhaling following the first sip was like trying to sculpt a new face. i was ensconced in a mesh of horror. it was something beyond taste. for years after, i assumed those commercials that said "this is how it feels to chew five gum" were referencing the exact experience of this singular viscous smoothie.
what's worse is that we knew our mother would hate that we wasted so much vanilla extract. so we had to make it worth it. we had to actually finish the drink. it wasn't "wasting" it if we actually drank it, right? we huddled around outside in the blistering sun, gagging and passing around a single green potion, shivering with disgust. each sip was transcendent, but in a sort of non-euclidean way. i think this is where i lost my binary gender. it eroded certain parts of me in an acidic gut ecology collapse.
here's the thing about love and trust: the next day my brother made a different shake, and i drank it without complaint. it's been like 15 years. he's now a genuinely skilled cook. sometimes one of the three of us will fuck up in the kitchen or find something horrible or make a terrible smoothie mistake and then we pass it to each other, single potion bottle, and we say try it it's delicious. it always smells disgusting. and then, cerimonious, we drink it together. because that's what family does.
#this is true#writeblr#warm up#relatedly for some reason one of our Favorite Jokes#amongst the Siblings#is like - ''this is so good u will love it''#while we are reacting to something we OBVIOUSLY find viscerally disgusting#like we will be actively retching and be like ''nooooo it's so good''#to the point that i sometimes get nervous if someone outside my family is like oh u should try it its good#(obvi we never force each other to eat anything. we are all just curious birds and#like. we're GONNA try the new thing.)#edit to answer why we had so much vanilla:#my mom is a very good cook and we LOVE to bake. so she just had a lot of staples in the house.#it's one of those things that's like. have u ever continuously thought ''ah i should get butter im probably out''#even tho u are not out of butter. so u end up with like 5 years of butter.#my mom would do that in a costco but like with vanilla extract#to be fair we WERE always using WAY TOO MUCH bc we were kids#so like she was right to stock up#ps. yes we were VERY sick after this lol i just didn't want to include it in the post in case ppl had an ick about that#u can tell it's real bc we knew "oh no we fucked up that's too much vanilla to waste'' but our reaction was to just. keep drinking it#> sibling understanding that vanilla extract isn't free > knowledge mother doesnt mind if we use it for milkshakes#> sibling choice to maybe get in a loophole of ''not wasting it'' if we drink it bc that's the same as using it (not throwing it out)#listen bud i was like 13 and my sister was like 9#when my mom discovered this we. got in. A LOT. of trouble. a lot of it. a LOT of it.#3rd edit bc i guess it isn't clear - i am 1 of my brother's 2 little sisters#i am the middle child#out of all the ways i have had to explain a post before being like ''did u forget a middle child can happen'' is my favorite

This post is your reminder that you are not obligated to blog about current events.
Things are bad. Really bad. Do not let people guilt trip you into tormenting yourself even further over the fact that things are bad. Doomscrolling is not activism.
If you're just on tumblr to blorbopost or reblog pretty pictures, you are not harming people by inaction.
You are not a bad person for not dedicating every aspect of your life and leisure space to whatever disgusting mask-off attack on human life and dignity some government has decided to enact.
Take action where you can, but don't confuse doomscrolling and digital self harm for action.
If you need to lose yourself in blorboposting, go for it.
If you need to log off for the day, whether it's to take irl action or to protect what little sanity any of us have left over the past 7 years, then by all means, do.
Morale is important. Hope is important. Small joys keep us from burning out completely in times like this. Do not let any "if you don't reblog this I'm judging you" guilt trip convince you otherwise.

i keep thinkin about katsuki who just doesn’t give a fuck. like, yeah he’ll walk over and pull you closer by the waist to press kisses all over your mouth to hear you giggle. and yeah he’ll groan and jokingly tell you to “stop runnin’” when he’s slobbering n’ biting all over your cheek while you try to push him away in between giggles and pecks. so what if he’s right outside of his classroom and what he’s doing is quote unquote “inappropriate ” ? you’re his girl. you mean to tell him he’s supposed to walk right past you and not try to initiate a make out session at 8 in the morning ??? while you’re looking like that ?? yeah right, mind your business glasses !!

Mon 2nd Jan:
Slowly but surely getting there. Today was day 7 of 12 shifts in a row but defo making progress and my manager says he's starting to pick up so I'm looking forward to him coming back Thursday. I was so short staffed today but me and the one guy with me managed to get a lot done between us and I think we did a good job. It was a good shift if a little bit stressful. Walked Maggie when I got home and could feel it getting bitter cold so not looking forward to another early start tomorrow 😬 did a load of housework, little bit of coursework, had a bath and now so very ready for bed. And to do it alll again tomorrow 🥲

I did force myself to cook up some pasta and defrost some veggie bolognese for dinner though which is the first proper meal I think I've had in days as I kept skipping my break at work over the weekend and just snacking to try and keep my momentum going. Anyway I sat down for a good 45 mins and ate my dinner and drank my lemsip which made me think of you @idratherberunning49 - consider this my Monday mugshot! 😘

DP x DC Prompt #1
An old collection is finally shown again at the British Museum after being left in boxes for a few decades.
By coincidence one Tucker Foley, reincarnation of a Pharaoh, notices among the collection several items that used to belong to him. It doesn't take much (or anything) to convince Sam and Danny to go on a... Field trip yup field trip with him to London, a little vacation for his 24th birthday if you will. What do you mean his birthday isn't before several months? That's blasphemy.
They simply came during the day as to control the perimeter (and make a list of other artefacts that would suddenly be returned to their rightful place.)
They could not have planned that one Ra's Al Ghul also had several of his own personal items that he wished to retrieve among the very same collection. Or that he would decide to not only get them back himself but also at the same time.
