random percy headcanons:
wants to be the photographer friend SO bad and he technically is but like 70% of the pics come out blurry or weird bc there was a monster attack in the middle of them. his instagram is truly so chaotic looking.
literally always has seashells on him someone will ask him for a pencil or spare change and he has to empty all his pockets of shells to find it. drops his backpack and a bunch of shells fall out. kicks his shoes off and sand and shells fly out and his mortal friends are like percy What the Fuck
his eyes glow underwater!! bioluminescent king. no one told him though and he didn't find out until he joined his school's swim team and terrified everyone (he managed to convince them his contacts were having a weird reaction to chlorine lmao)
he really likes art!! he doesn't just pretend to for rachel's sake he genuinely enjoys painting with her. he likes splatter paint, collages and pop art styles the best. one day after splitting some edibles they realized percy could manipulate water colors and went CRAZY with it
will ask to be excused during class and comes back like an hour later with scorch marks all over his face bleeding from one of his ears covered in dust missing three fingernails rips in his jeans and a fat lip and the teacher is like percy what the actual hell were you doing in the bathroom all this time and he's just like uhhhhhh I have ibs
the brand from camp jupiter did unfortunately (for sally) Unlock something in him lmfao he keeps getting shitty little tattoos. usually stick-n-poke but someone's friends cousin's girlfriend's brother has a gun that gets brought to parties every now and then. most of them are sloppy but you can tell what they are HOWEVER he has one that was supposed to be a seal that came out looking like one of those shitty ms paint crying memes. annabeth laughed at him for ten minutes straight when she saw it.
he wanted to dye his hair blue but he was too chicken to bleach his entire head so he just did the tips. his hair is curly though so it looks absolutely ridiculous but he loves it
percy and annabeth get a crusty little yappy white dog in college and he carries it around like a baby lmao
back to his chaotic instagram, he's got so many pics of him like, relaxing at the bottom of the mariana trench or hugging a giant squid or riding on a whale shark and his mortal friends all think he's just really good at photoshop and this is a very specific bit he decided to commit to. they're always like lol percy where do you even FIND these pictures are you subscribed to like scientific journals for the laughs? but no he just took them all on his shell phone
has an ongoing prank war with annabeth's little brothers bobby and matthew but like it's Unhinged. they're playing 5D chess and she has no idea whats going on
weird tshirts!!! he loves them! like
Tumblr media
shit like this or those 'women want me fish fear me' shirts, anything with a funny or incomprehensible slogan is going in his closet right along with his band tees lmfao
bought estelle a panda pillow pet when she was born 🥺
can NOT bring himself to eat seafood no matter how many times poseidon has told him its fine. he's like NO these are my FRIENDS JONATHAN WAS TELLING ME ABOUT HIS GRANDDAUGHTERS WEDDING LITERALLY YESTERDAY WHY IS HE ON A PLATTER DAD. they had to give up and just start eating normal land food at the palace every time he comes to visit lmfao
gets into horsegirl antics with hazel she NEEDS to know everything the horses have to say. they spend hours gossiping in the stables.
movie nights in the poseidon cabin were 10000% a thing and when he was missing annabeth and thalia and grover (and a few others) would still sleep in there every now and then and talk about how much they miss him :(
percy and beckendorf had the worlds most elaborate handshake
he DOES impulse buy stuff just because they're ocean-themed. stuffed animals, home decor, school supplies, clothes, you name it he bought it if theres like a fish on it
has more scars from crashing off his skateboard than he does from monster attacks
grover is somehow the only person who's ever noticed percy is severely claustrophobic
has a deep passion for adele. I can't explain this one I just feel and know it to be true.
he and annabeth both proposed to each other at the same time and they were SO mad about it they kept yelling over each other's speeches lmao
he can SING but he doesn't know it. sally keeps trying to record him singing to himself but something always happens to the camera and she loses the evidence
called chiron a brony one time and mr d thought it was so funny he was nice to percy for an entire week
the camp keeps trying to convince him to teach sword fighting lessons to the younger kids but he can NOT bring himself to swing a sword at a 9 year old so he keeps getting injured
has the most complicated iced coffee order in the world his go-to local coffee shop finally just put the damn drink on the menu and named it after him
he IS the quiet kid in the back of your math class that always has his hood up to try and hide his headphones and eats increasingly elaborate meals out of his backpack when the teacher isn't looking. one time someone caught him with a rotisserie chicken in the middle of a geometry final.
he argued that he DID have enough to share with the class
currently obsessed with the image of him knocking back a container of sea salt as if it was a shot and his mortal friends being like hey! what the actual fuck! and he's just like uhhhhh anemia kills!
its his birthday<3

I'm a trans man and haven't started socially or medically transitioning in any way. I'm 25 but I do live with my mother, the details of which are irrelevant but it feels like i should mention it benefits her more than me. My mom is generally supportive of trans people, but to her knowledge she doesn't know any so I don't know how shed do with actually confronted with one.
I have come out to my mom sexuality-wise before, and she's never been nasty, but she does tend to refer to me as "confused" even though i came out as bi about five years ago. The worst case scenario I think is that she'd just sort of ignore it, but I feel like the possibility of having someone in my corner is worth it to try. Also she's my mom and I love her. So it would be cool if I could like, tell her about things. Because we're friends and we talk all the time about pretty much everything else.
Even if she took a negative stance and started trying to convince me not to transition, I think I would do it, and I plan on moving to somewhere it would be easier to transition anyway. This is part of why I want to tell her - so that I can present a real reason for wanting to move other than just leaving for no reason. Especially because I'd be moving a minimum of fourteen hours away, so it's not like I'd be able to pop back in whenever.
Also, even though I'm not on testosterone I have facial hair and grow substantial sideburns and have a lot of hair growing on my chin and upper lip. That hair isn't as thick so it's not a full beard/mustache, but it is definitely enough to be noticeable if you get close to my face. It runs in the family and my mom whines at me to shave it all the time and tells me its gross or whatever. I don't know if telling her the real reason I don't want to shave it would make her understand, or if she just doesn't like the thought of me being masculine at all.
I know I would have to tell her someday anyway, because I don't plan to stop talking to her when I move or anything like that. Somehow it feels like it would be easier to tell her when I've already begun transitioning, because I would have more proof that it makes me happy and right now its technically just a theory. But I also feel like if I don't go out of my way to tell her, there's a significant chance if I went on testosterone she would just never mention it, and I would never mention it, and while that's kind of funny, it's not really the situation I want to be in with my mom.
Also feels relevant to mention that really the only other family members we speak to are my sister and my aunt, so its not like there's a ton of familial relationships to fall back on for either of us.

How would the tangled kids react to Varian and Cassandra’s villain arc? Also I love your art 😊
AJDJDJDGG OKAY SO. this is SO fucking good but ive been putting it off for so long bc i wanted to draw something to go with it but i’ve just. never figured out what so inevitably i’m just gonna answer it on its own
this subject in particular is SO FUNNY for me to think about bc i think the kids’ reactions depend a lot on how their parents talk abt it and both of them handle it in COMPLETELY different ways. like uknighted dream is pretty open abt it (obviously they give the incredibly watered down kid-safe version) and they kinda use it as a learning experience? like in very vague terms.
its kinda just like
alina: oh why are you and mama cass fighting in your drawing :(
rapunzel: <:) well yknow how if you shake a bottle of soda, when you open it it explodes everywhere?? well sometimes when we bottle up our feelings and don’t do anything with them or talk to someone we trust, they end up getting all shaken up in there, and eventually theyll explode! mama cass and i used to have a lot of trouble talking about our feelings, and because of all those emotions that got bottled up and shaken around in there, we found it hard to properly communicate with each other at all. but then we realized how much we really cared about each other and how we really wanted to make things work, so we learned to be more honest about how we felt and how to communicate with one another without everything just ‘exploding’, so to speak. and thats why we always teach you how to manage your big emotions, does that make sense? :)
on the other hand VARIAN? literally could not care less. at least not with the ud kids. he still has one of his wanted posters that hugo grabbed as a “souvenir” on their trip, and the automaton he used to fight rapunzel? its still in the corner of his lab and he pulls it apart regularly for scrap metal.
ryder will be wandering around his lab when hes like 7 and hes like “uncle vari whats that”
varian: that’s an automaton buddy
ryder: did you make it?
varian: yeah
ryder: what’s it for
varian: well nothing now it’s just spare parts. but i actually made it a long time ago to fight your mom
ryder: which one
varian: both actually. and technically your dad. but mostly rapunzel
ryder: oh
ryder: did you win?
varian: no it wasnt really that kind of fight. nobody won
ryder: oh that’s boring
ryder: can i try it
varian: absolutely not
when emery comes along though varian is like “okay we are Never addressing this again” bc em thinks varian is SO cool and varian actually cares So much about his newfound image. (very stupid of him for that to be his main priority obviously bc emery is like 4 and if she knew what he did she would probably just be like “okay. can i have apple juice”)
anyways yeah ilmari and the twins don’t really tell her anything either because they don’t really see it as anything worth telling her about, especially in comparison to way more important things like the fact that lance will sometimes sneak you dessert before dinner if you can convince eugene he has a gray hair without him catching on. so obviously emery grows up fairly unaware of anything varian has done but the defining factor is that shes constantly hearing about it out of context and is just left to struggle with that enigma.
like you know the experience of being like 14 years old at the family thanksgiving and you get to sit at the grown ups table for the first time and hear about all their weird beef and inside jokes and also hear your aunt mention out of context that hey your dad went to prison once bc that’s LITERALLY what the tangled kids experience in relation to their parents’ pasts. like the twins forgot about most of what varian told them by the time they grew up, they knew the watered down version of what happened with cass but they never knew the little details right. so they’ll just be hanging out playing checkers together while the adults are sitting across the room chatting over drinks and varian jokes “oh man its just like that one time cass kidnapped me” and all the kids immediately whip their heads around like “WHAT?”
this is ESPECIALLY true with emery who’s parents are notorious for having more insults for each other than pet names. em could just be reading by the fireplace late one night and var and hugo come out for a midnight snack and just start talking like
hugo: sometimes i think maybe objectively we should be evil again. like just for fun
varian: honestly. i took over the kingdom once i could do it again no problem
hugo: you’re probably actually strong enough to do it yourself now 🥺
varian: you want to kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid
emery: ….right so are we just gonna brush over the “again” part or did you guys forget i was here
varian also eventually realizes that by doing this he is replicating EXACTLY how quirin used to be secretive of his own past and how like one day varian just suddenly had to grapple with the knowledge that his dad who baked pies and fed the apple peels to his raccoon probably had a kill count. and obviously varian is absolutely distraught over this revelation
“HUGO HELP ME. I think im becoming my dad” “oh. well hey it happens to all of us it could be worse. besides your dad is hot so like i see it as a win win” “What” “what?”
i should probably also mention that ilmari knew about cass’s villain arc long before they even MET and ilmari actively tries to use this against her when they’re like 13. like “yeah well you cant tell ME what to do i’m gonna tell alina and ryder you tried to stab mom when you were in your 20s” (it doesn’t work btw)

Digimon Adventure 02 THE BEGINNING | Some thoughts on the retcons
Tumblr media
It is still kinda magical to me. Today is the official release of Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning and me, in Germany, actually could see it on releaseday in cinema, instead of waiting like a year for it to make its way to either BluRay or ovr to Germany in general.
So, yeah, I just came back from Cinema and... I sure have thoughts.
Like in general: It was a very fine movie. Not great. But good enough. Felt more like an OVA, to be honest, and be it just because of the very short runtime. But... It was the first time since 2001 that I saw a Digimon movie in cinema. And did I start crying on the opening credits? You bet I did.
But... That's not what I wanna talk about. I wanna talk about the retcons.
Because boy, did the movie retcon a lot of stuff. I mean, technically it retconned basically the entire Adventure-verse base lore, the reason for the Chosen Children and of course the epilogue.
Also it completely retconned Digimon Adventure tri. - which, let's be honest, was probably the best call on their end.
Let me talk under the cut, just to make sure nobody gets spoiled who does not want to get spoiled.
So, the movie basically retcons the entire thing about the first chosen children (aka the stuff that tri. basically is build around), by... mostly ignoring they existed or at least moving them much, much closer to the events of Digimon Adventure, than what tri. had imagined.
Now the entire reason for the chosen children existing is, that one child made a wish in 1996, the wish leading to the events of the very first movie - and that of course leading to everything else within the timeline.
The child of course is the "first chosen child" the movie is about, Rui. This child per chance - or maybe in an attempt of the universe to create balance (more about that in a moment) - got partnered with Ukkumon, a Digimon that is at least implied to be linked to the Homeostasis. At least Ukkumon can make strong wishes into a reality. And Rui wishes to have friends who are like him. And because he is partnered with a Digimon, Ukkumon makes it that other children get partnered with Digimon, so that there are more children like Rui.
And, yeah, that one wish leads to everything else, to more and more children being paired with Digimon partners - until eventually every person on the world has a Digimon partner (which is what the epilogue said after all).
Now, I find the story with Rui interesting under the idea of balance.
Because... Well, the homeostasis is always kinda ill defined and runs into the same problems like Star Wars (like, yeah, Anakin brought balance to the force, just not in the way the Jedi expected). The show itself barely explains it, the novels go a bit more into it, then tri. is very chaotic about it and... that was it.
But in a way the situation with Rui seems to be very much about balance. Because you have this child, who is poor, whose father is comatose, who gets beaten and abused by a clearly overworked mother. And this child, who really has anything imaginable thrown at him, he gets his wishes fulfilled. Which weirdly enough brings a bit more balance into the world, right?
It is an interesting concept to use the homeostasis for. Way more interesting than "dark vs light".
Weirdly enough it also kinda fits very well with the idea behind the Adventure children, who were back then created around the idea of "children struggling with real world problems". While nobody is abused like Rui, they are mostly very much struggling. So, yeah, they are a lot like Rui in that regard.
It is also kinda funny. Digimon Adventure 02 went very strong originally (especially in the finale) on the "the digital world as a vehicle to fulfill wishes", which this again also takes up. And in a weird way the epilogue also took up in a ridiculous way. With the kids not only fulfilling their dreams, but doing it to a frankly stupid amount. Like, they do not only do what they wanted to do as kids, they are literally the most successful at it (except Miyako, who does not get a dream, she just gets to produce babies, ugh).
This also gets toned down here. While for the most part the chosen career paths are still mostly the same (with the big exception of Miyako) to what we saw in the epilogue, they are no longer "the best" in it. Daisuke just makes ramen, he does not need to have a worldwide ramen franchise, you know?
But yeah. There is of course the big one. In the epilogue every human has a Digimon partner. And... Well, Digimon Adventure 02 released in Germany in 2001. While I already knew the ending from the Japanese run (because I got first access to the internet, just two weeks before Digimon Tamers released in Japan), I do very much remember coming home from school on 9/11, wanting to watch Digimon and... well, 9/11 being on every single TV channel. So, one of my first thoughts even as a child was: "Wait, everyone gets a Digimon? Even the terrorists?" And I also wondered about the people, who do not want a Digimon.
Which very much is what this movie lands on, when they face the possibility of every person getting a Digimon partner.
Weirdly enough my adult self, 20 years later, is a lot less world weary, than my 12yo self. Because as an adult seeing this part of the epilogue retconned, I cannot help but wonder: "But maybe it would have been good, if everyone had a partner? Maybe it would have helped heal people?" But that might just be my idealism talking there.
So, yeah. It is a bit bittersweet to see this ending, that very much feels like a definite ending. (And really, I hope it is. Like, I know Digimon Adventure prints money, but maybe... just... let's move on?)
I don't know. I have a lot of complicated feelings right now about this, I have to say.
Just needed to ramble about this, I feel.

The Promotion
An Owl House AU where everything is the same except Hunter and Willow are secretly dating. This gonna be a two shot because I’m impatient and don’t wanna start a new multi chapter fic but also I didn’t want it to be too long ALSO ITS VERY CHEESY
                                                       ***
“Tired, little prince?” Darius noted with a smirk as he walked up beside Hunter who could not seem to stop yawning.
“No, no not at all,” Hunter lied, attempting to stifle another yawn before it could make its way out. Knowing he didn’t have to hide it from Darius, he pulled out his scroll and smiled at the most recent message.
“Up late messaging your little girlfriend again I take it?” Continued Darius, peeking over Hunter’s shoulder to see a long string of messages with Willow, her photo smiling and bright. He took delight in the red tint Hunter’s face adopted as he tried to hide his scroll from sight. .
“G-girlfriend?” Hunter repeated, the word echoing down the empty hallway. Luckily, they were the only two here. “I wasn’t, I mean she’s not… I mean we’re not…!”
As muddled as Hunter’s understanding of romance was, he knew it existed. He had no great examples in his life to look to, but when he would walk around the market he’d see couples holding hands, laughing, and kissing and he knew the nature of their relationship was something more. He knew that having a romantic relationship meant that the other person was important to you, that you kept them around because they brought forth a different feeling in you.
He had thought once or twice that he felt this way about Willow, the way he’d get excited to see a message from her or the way the idea of her distracted him. How he wanted to be close to her but how being close to her made him nervous. Such contradictions could only exist in the frivolous mindset of a person in love. But he had nothing else to compare it to, so he had to assume it was because he wasn’t meant to have it. So he had to try and ignore it until it went away, but he couldn’t ignore Willow.
“Call me old fashioned, but in my experience teenagers typically don’t  turn this shade of red when asked about someone who is ‘just a friend.’” said Darius, effortlessly casual. “Not that anyone would ever call me old.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about Darius!” Hunter lied, forcing a nervous chuckle. “The Captain is just good at her job! She checks in with all the team members!”
“Uh-Huh,” said Darius, stroking his goatee. “Well, given the fact that you aren’t technically a member of her team any longer, there must be another reason she is giving you such special attention, hmmm?”
“Pshh, yeah right,” scoffed Hunter. “As if she’d ever feel that way about me.”
“What? The Golden Guard isn’t good enough for her?”
“She doesn’t care about the Golden Guard stuff,” he said, pulling his scroll back out to look at her photo again. “She likes me, just regular me.”
“I can assure you that you are anything but regular, little prince,” said Darius, sipping his drink. “I can tell you regard her highly as well. What do you admire most about her?”
Oh, Titan, how was he supposed to pick just one thing? She was so determined and commanded respect, she inspired confidence. She was funny and Hunter didn’t usually like or understand humor but she had a wit that transcended that. She was smart and kind and beautiful and-.
“She’s… very capable,” said Hunter, not wanting to give Darius any ammunition.
“Mhm hm, she does seem like the perfect candidate,”
“Oh, she made it very clear she doesn’t want to join the coven,” said Hunter.
“I didn’t mean for the coven,” said Darius with a wink. “Listen, it's clear that you feel things for this girl and as someone who has been the object of affection for many, I think it’s in your best interest to express that to her rather than stifle it. Unexpressed emotions have a tendency of slowing one down.”
“Tell her?!” Hunter exclaimed, his eyes darting between Darius and his scroll. “Tell her… my weird feelings?!”
“They’re not ‘weird,’ little prince they’re just… well they are weird but they’re supposed to be weird,” laughed Darius. “If you want her to be your girlfriend, you should just ask her. Sooner rather than later. Take off the afternoon if you’d like, I’m willing to cover for you so long as you actually go through with it.”
Hunter had to admit there was some logic to what Darius was suggesting. His mind had been foggy recently, distracted and maybe discussing these feelings with Willow would offer clarity. The wondering would be over and maybe he wouldn’t feel so distressed.
“What do I even say? I hate typing on these things!”
“Oh Titan no!” Darius exclaimed. “This question needs to be asked in person! Face to face! You can’t simply send it so casually in a mere message like you were asking for her favorite color!”
 Emerald green.
“But what if… she says no,” Hunter asked, his ears sinking. “What if she laughs in my face? What if I make her uncomfortable? What if she hates me?”
Darius sighed and bent down to Hunter’s level to look him in the eye to answer his questions in order.
“If she doesn’t feel the same way then you can move on, she won’t laugh at your feelings, you’re both going to be uncomfortable; it's inevitable, and does this look like a girl who would hate you for telling her you think the world of her?”
Hunter looked down at the most recent photo Willow had sent him,  she was grinning ear to ear making a heart with her hands as Clover nuzzled the side of her face. The caption read ‘Have a great day today!’ It was simple, sweet, sincere; things he didn’t know he was missing until she came into his life.
“Think of it as a promotion,” offered Darius, knowing this was more how his mind operated. “If she thinks she’s qualified, she’ll accept but if she’s happier where she is, well, there’s nothing wrong with where she is now, right?”
“Right,”
“Exactly,” said Darius, standing up. “Now, go ask the girl to get eye scream or whatever children do nowadays. I’ll let everyone know you’re on a special mission for me.”
“Thank you Darius,” whispered Hunter.
“Good luck little prince!” Darius called as Hunter ran from the hall to grab Flapjack. “Titan knows you’ll need it.”
———-
Hunter had rehearsed everything on the way there. He had the pros as well as the cons listed perfectly in his mind. He prepared himself for the worst case scenario though he didn’t dare venture to the best case, lest he once again lose focus.
He watched from a distance as Willow finished leading practice, making the usual announcements and criticisms. Watching her effortlessly command authority made Hunter’s heart race and it made him somehow more determined and nervous simultaneously.
He was so focused on watching Willow (totally not in a creepy way) as she continued talking with Skara about something that he didn’t notice Gus come up behind him.
“Dude, are you spying on Willow?”
“Ahh!” Hunter exclaimed, looking back to make sure his outburst was not head. “What? No! No, of course not! I’m simply waiting for her current conversation to be over before I… go ask her… something. Or tell her something? I don’t know the order it’s supposed to be done in…”
“Ooooh are you gonna tell her you have a crush on her?” Gus teased with a laugh. When Hunter didn’t respond or laugh em with him, Gus saw the serious expression he wore and realized he might’ve guessed right. “Wait, seriously?”
“That… is part of what I came here to do, yes,” said Hunter trying to remain composed. “Is this a bad time? This is a bad time isn’t it? I should reschedule or ya know just forget it, right? I don’t even know if the Captain is accepting suitors or if she already has one-.” Hunter found himself paralyzed as he realized he had no clue whether or not Willow already had a boyfriend. He had never found the courage to bring it up and while she never said anything, it could be that it was so obvious that it didn’t need mentioning. How was he so certain she wasn’t already taken? “Oh Titan, she probably has at least a few, I can’t be the only one to-.”
“She doesn’t.” Gus said, snapping Hunter out of his spiral.
“What?”
“She doesn’t have a boyfriend or a girlfriend or anything like that,” said Gus.
“Oh, well then,” said Hunter, surprised but thankful. “So hypothetically if I, or anyone really, were to hypothetically ask her to go out with me… or them, she would have no prior commitment preventing her from accepting?”
“Nope,” Gus replied simply.
“So that wouldn’t be the reason she would reject me,” said Hunter thinking aloud, his tone becoming less confident as the realization hit him. “I-if she were to reject me, or anyone hypothetically. Which she could…”
“So are ya gonna hypothetically go over there or-?”
Hunter looked back where Willow stood as she was laughing at something with Skara, the gentle breeze blowing her hair back and suddenly he was jealous of the wind.
“Can you ask her?” he asked in a small voice.
“You want me to ask Willow out for you?”
“No!” Hunter scoffed. “Ask her if she likes me and then I’ll know if I should ask her out or not.”
“I mean, she could like you and still say no,” pointed out Gus, taking delight in teasing Hunter.
“Right, good point okay, then make it a two parter: ask her if she likes me and if she would say yes if I asked her out,” revised Hunter, ensuring all bases were covered.
“Dude…”
“What?” Hunter exclaimed with a vibrant blush. “I just wanna make sure I don’t embarrass myself! Or her! Or say something wrong or stupid or-.”
“Dude,” said Gus again, placing his hand on the older boy’s shoulder. “Chill.”
“I wish I could but my face feels so hot I think I’m going to melt,” said Hunter. “Talking about this makes me sweaty and I don’t know why but I do know I don't want her to see me like this!”
“Hunter, I’ve known Willow for awhile and trust me when I say she’s never talked about anyone the way she talks about you.”
“That’s very… vague,” said Hunter. “Is that supposed to make me feel better because honestly it just makes me feel dizzy.”
“Ask her.” Gus said simply with a smile.
“Do you really think she’ll say yes?” Hunter frantically wrung his hands. “I just… I’ve never felt or done anything like this… should I change? Is what I’m wearing okay? I don’t know the rules-.”
“Ask her,” repeated Gus. “Unless you’re… scared?”
He knew that would activate something within Hunter.
“Me? Scared? Of what? The Captain? Of course not!” That was only a little untrue. At first he thought the feelings he had for Willow were from fear until they became more complex than that. “I’m not scared of anything!”
“Prove it.”
“Fine! Watch me!”
                                                    ———
Hunter had caught Willow’s eye the moment he entered the vicinity of the field. He often came by during practice and didn’t attempt to draw attention to himself, but Willow always knew. She knew he was checking in on everyone and wasn’t there to see just her but she always found herself trying a little harder or moving a little faster when he was nearby. She wasn’t intentionally trying to impress him, but if she did then so be it.
Sometimes he would stop by after practice and say hello or offer to walk her home, insisting it was part of his Golden Guard duties and when she brought up he coming by earlier he would act dumb. He would quickly turn to the topic to flyer derby or offer to carry her bags and Willow would drop the subject, just content  to spend the time with him.
Usually he waited for everyone else to leave and she would approach him, but now he was running across the field trying to get her attention. She saw Gus behind him, wearing a mischievous smirk, and Willow  wondered what he had said to make Hunter move with such urgency.
“Captain!” Called Hunter, clearly trying to seem calmer than he was.  He couldn’t decide if his pace should be a walk or a run so the end result was an awkward speed walk over to her.
She smiled as she waved him over, absentmindedly adjusting her hair as he got closer to her.
“Hi!” Willow called back. “Are you okay? You look kind of sweaty.”
“I’m fine! Great, how are you? You looked great! Are you sweaty? I mean, not that you look… I mean, because you just did… but you don’t. I mean, I’m here because-.”
“I’m good,” Willow said, answering the question he forgot he asked. “Happy to see you.”
“Really?” That was a good sign.
“Of course,” she smiled, sensing he had more to say. “So… what’s on your mind?”
You. Of course he knew he had a mission. She was so observant, it took his breath away
“So, Captain… Willow,” he corrected himself, her actual name sounding almost forbidden. “Well, I’ve been thinking… do you… would you… I-.”
“Do you want a drink of water or something?”
“Me? No! I’m fine! Never been better! How are you?”
“You already asked me that, but I-.”
“Date! Do you date?” Hunter’s hand shot to cover his mouth as he looked to the ground in horror.
“Do I… ?” Willow processed his words and then looked at the scruffy boy before her, who looked as though he was about to throw up. She had seen this before, she had felt this before, and she fought the smile that tried to creep onto her face. “Hunter, are… are you asking me out?”
“I’m trying to!” He said, frustrated mostly at himself as he collected his words.
“It’s okay, take your time.”
“I THINK WE SHOULD DATE!” He covered his mouth again, taken back by his own volume. He struggled to regain any shred of dignity he had left. “I-I’ve made a pros and cons list to review, and the pros are fairly compelling in my opinion and if you want I can-.”
“Okay,” she said softly
“O…okay?”
“Yeah,” said Willow brightly. “I’d really like that.”
“To… read the list?”
“To go out with you.”
Time froze.
“I’m sorry, I think I just blacked out for a second,” Hunter said, clearing his throat, “You would? I mean, of course you would! Yes, of course because that’s how this works.” Hunter rambled, his confidence not even believable to himself. He waited for himself to wake up and for this all to be a dream because he really didn’t think he’d get this far.
“Do you… wanna walk me home?” asked Willow, taking the lead as Hunter struggled with being unprepared for the first time in his life.
Was that romantic? He had done that plenty of times before. Maybe dating meant doing the same things friends did but with a more official title. But of course yes he very much did. He nodded in response, feeling he had spoken too much already and Willow giggled.
“Do you wanna… hold hands?” She asked, extending her arm to him.
There it was. There was the promotion
He didn’t have the words to respond so instead he extended his hand as well and she linked their hands, effortlessly intertwining their fingers.
So maybe dating means doing the same things but a little differently, thought Hunter. He was grateful she couldn’t tell how sweaty his hands were through his gloves, but the minute they touched he felt a chill go through his spine. They walked in silence for a moment, his eyes darting over to Willow not sure if he was meant to say something or if the silence was enough.
She knew what to say when he was speechless and what to do when he hesitated. It felt almost easy. How could it feel this easy? How had something that once seemed so impossible just suddenly become real in a matter of seconds?
“Um, so just in case… I should tell you something…” said Willow after awhile.
She changed her mind! She was taking it back! This was all a test! A prank! A dream! It WAS too good to be true!
“I’ve never actually dated anyone before,” she said with a… blush? Did I do that? Hunter dared to wonder. Is that a good thing? He couldn’t believe that the Captain had never dated someone before, he had assumed everyone felt this strongly about her after meeting her. But it must be because she was so busy, she didn’t have time for such things.  But she had made time… for him?
“Me neither,” he admitted, feeling safe to share with her. “I don’t even know if I’m allowed to.”
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah,” said Hunter as his words caught up with him. “Actually… I’m pretty sure… there’s no way my uncle would allow this! If he ever found out-.”
“Hunter, are you okay?”
“I’m sorry, I’m not used to this,” he tried to explain. “This wasn’t a logical decision. Well, it was I did make the list. But it wasn’t? Because the Golden Guard to supposed to focus on order and the coven not… not…”
Not peridot colored eyes and raven colored hair, no, not on effortlessly kind words and the way she smelled like daisies.
“Well, what the Emperor doesn’t know can’t hurt him.”
“What’re you saying?”
“I mean, is it so wrong if maybe… you don’t tell him? I mean, is it really any of his business?”
“I mean, he is the Emperor…” said Hunter, baffled she could speak of the most powerful witch in the Isles as though his opinion meant nothing to her.
“Well, how about this: let’s see if this is anything worth telling him about first, okay?”
How could it not be?
“I mean, this is still new to the both of us,” continued Willow. “Very new, I mean we’ve been going out for all of … five minutes? I know that you being the Golden Guard might make things… complicated, but I like you. So I don’t mind complicated.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” she said, swinging their linked arms. “You’re worth it.”
“I just… don’t know if I’m any good at this,” admitted Hunter, not accustomed to admitting any form of weakness. “So I understand if you want to reconsider.”
Hunter was torn because his first instinct was to scream at the top of his lungs that Willow Park was his girlfriend. Wait, was that the right word? Was he allowed to call her that? Was that what they were? What were the steps? Was there an official verbal contract they needed to enter?
“Well… give it some time, you might be the one who wants to reconsider. I might not be that great of a girlfriend-.”
“Don’t say that! You’re a great girlfriend!”
Willow just looked at him with wide eyes and a wider smile. “See? You’re great at this.” Willow beamed as they continued to walk, her leading him and Hunter following behind like a lost puppy. “Look at that! You’ve completed your first official boyfriend duty: getting me home safely.”
Hunter looked up and saw it was the; they had arrived at Willow’s house. How had time gone by so quickly? He dreaded the idea of letting go of her hand and held on tighter without realizing as her words echoed through his mind. Boyfriend. Boyfriend.
“Boyfriend?” said Hunter under his breath, the word like a spell all by itself.
“Oh, is that okay? If that’s too soon, we can always-.”
“No, I like it!” said Hunter eagerly, but he didn’t care if it showed this time.
Willow beamed and tilted her head. “Good, so do I,” she said “Now, since I can’t walk you home, you have another mission to complete: message me when you get there so I know you got back safely.”
“Of course!” he said with enthusiasm as though this was the mission he had been waiting his whole life to be assigned. He began his walk back to the castle, he walked backwards so as to not have to take his eyes off her right away. He didn’t hear Flapjack chirping wildly, warning him to pay attention before he walked into an exposed tree root and fell to the ground.
As she looked over to ensure he was okay, he quickly rose to his feet, hoping his embarrassment wasn’t obvious.
“Stop falling for me and pay attention to where you’re going!’ shouted Willow after him with a laugh, a laugh that he knew wasn’t laughing at him but he was still happy to have inspired.
His chest felt like it was burning, like a fire made for warmth not to destroy and he was amazed he could tell the difference. This feeling would be hard to keep secret, now that he knew it was shared. But if he had to keep this a secret to see where it could go, he could. He would keep her like a secret, like an oath, like a promise, like anything she was willing to be to him. He would do anything to keep her.

Okay I know its, like, the end of fucking July but I read your most recent deadpool hcs and now I HAVE to get the low down on how he celebrates Halloween with his s/o. Like imagine him literally ripping off his arm as part of the costume and constantly getting complimented on how "real" it looks lmao
Tumblr media
Ok so Halloween is like my favorite holiday EVER, so the way I rushed to do this when I finally saw your ask.
He's so hype for Halloween because he can just go out as himself and not feel bad about how he looks.
Totally dressed up as Freddy Krueger just because he didn't have to do much work to make it look good.
He kept joking that he was now on par with wolverine because he did get the Kruger claws.
Another time he went as a zombie and just ripped one of his armsboff just to keep pointing at everything with it
"Accidentally" slapped someone with his dismembered limb.
He always gets so many complaints about how good he looks so that does make him feel slightly better about himself.
He kept trying to get you to dress in his Deadpool suit but you said no because "that thing is practically threaded together with cocaine at this point"
If you guys aren't walking around but instead handling out candy to kids he'll get on the roof and jump down at a lot of them.
"hey honey it's almost time to go!" You yelled towards Wade referring to a party you both were invited to a party at the academy by Colossus.
He groaned throwing on the green and red striped sweater. "It's probably gonna be boring though! I mean it's mainly going to be smart assed kids and adults with sticks up their asses!" He shouted back coming over to where you were pulling you to him by your waist. "Maybe we can just stay here instead and have our own fun."
Laughing you pushed him back. "We can have our fun later, for right now I know you love Halloween so we are going to go to this damned party. Plus don't you want to spike the punch or something." You said opening a cabinet that had stored alcohol.
He gasped offended. "I would never do such a thing! How did you even know that was in there? Not that I put it in there or anything." Leaning over you as he spoke you closed the cabinet.
You scoffed at him looking him up and down. "You totally would and you know it! You "accidentally," you held up your fingers to make a quoting gesture, "put cocaine on some donuts saying it was powdered sugar and them gave them to Logan!"
He crossed his arms with a laugh. "Yeah but I know he won't die from something like that so technically it was all in good fun!" He started laughing harder at the memory of Logan being hunched over for a bit from consuming that much of the drug in that way.
You stifled your own laughter trying to reprimand him for his actions. "Alright it was admittedly a bit funny, but there's going to be children there this year so he careful." You warned him walking over and wrapping your arms around him.
"Alright fine I won't pull to many stunts if that makes you feel better. But I better get a reward for playing nice." He grumbled picking you up to place you on the counter.
You shrugged your shoulders pulling him in by his shirt collar. "I don't know maybe if you're on your best behavior I'll give you one." You murmured against his lips before crashing yours to his.
He pulled you closer to himself wrapping your legs around his waist before kissing you back with fervor. He pulled away smirking at you "can't keep your hands off me for long can you?"
You rolled your eyes pushing him off and hopping off the counter. "Nope not when it comes to you Wade, now let's get to that party!"

So, just to be clear, The Good Place is the greatest show in history, it is my heart, my soul, my everything. That said, after the bilionth rewatch, I need to talk about a couple of things:
1. Not a single person in the real Good Place should have been okay with the concept of the Bad Place from the beginning of time. The thing is that eternity, of any kind, is inherently cruel, and I was so happy that the show actually delt with it and acknowledged the problem of it, both as punishment and as a reward. But it makes no sense to me whatsoever that a person who is presumably good and caring would reach paradise and learn that there are people who will never ever reach it, and not immediately demand to talk to the manager or start a riot. In fact, even the people in the bad place wouldn't accept that. And not necessarily just about themselves! Knowing that people will suffer endlessly for the rest of time, regardless of their actions, is beyond horrific for the majority of people in the world, let alone ones who get into heaven. Even in the fake Good Place, there's no way that someone like Chiddi wouldn't be disturbed by it. You can say that Eleanor and Jason had other things to worry about, and that Tahani was too self centered at the beginning to care (though I don't think she was so self centered that she would become that cruel as to think that eternity of suffering is okay for anyone), but to know that your loved ones would never be there with you, that humans will suffer for the rest of time... I don't know how anyone could live with that. Or technically not-live with it, I guess. You know. Cause they're dead. Anyway, I know that we wouldn't have a show if this wasn't the case, but it still doesn't really make sense once you think about it.
2. Even if the humans in the existing system wouldn't revolt over the cruelty of infinity, I feel like the accountants should have. Technically speaking, within the existing system amazingly good people and generally good ones still went to the Bad Place because they had like 1,150,000 points instead of 1,200,000, and not to mention every other person with points between zero and the lower cut of the Good Place. The system makes no sense from its inception. Why on earth should a person with more than a million point literally burn in hell? Why would accountants be okay with this? To see so many green points go to hell? It's horrible.
3. Also, infinity doesn't apply only to humans - it is cruel and unfair that all non-humans in this world are immortal, and on top of that, forced into a job essentially from birth. They did touch it with Michael both changing his job and later becoming mortal, but it's such a shame that the possibility wasn't given to all non-humans. When your only options are forced labour (that you can't choose the type of) or brutal death ("retirement"), you are just as much of a prisoner of the system as the humans.
4. Why exactly is there a system? I know it is irrelevant within the frame of the show, but I am genuinely curious in the philosophical aspect of this, especially since the system in the show is explicitly detached from any religion, religiosity and divinity. Why are humans judged at all? Why only humans? What right or authority do the non-humans have to operate this system and judge humans in the first place? Does this imply a higher being does exist? Or is the universe just really into burocracy, randomly placing atoms in the shape of accountants and fire monsters?
4. Doug Forcett shouldn't have had any points at all. His motivation was just as curupt as Tahani's, and so it didn't matter how much good he did.
5. Funny enough, through the experiment Michael actually found a more moral and fair way to torture people, regardless of how it revealed the flaws in the system. This goes back to the fact that a lot of good people and just normal average people filled the Bad Place. It was established that the Bad Place workers truly believe in justice. They don't do their job because they're evil, they do it because it's their part in keeping the universe balanced. But I can't believe that a demon looks at essentially a good person's file and says "yeah they deserve to get their intestines pulled out of their ass for the rest of eternity". If the revolt wouldn't start from the humans or the accountans (or angles for that matter), it should have started with the demons, who actually deal with the consequences of the flaws in the system every day. Michael's solution is what the Bad Place should have been from the beginning - a tailored torture that fits the crimes of the individual human. Finding out that they're in the Bad Place didn't actually harm the torture at all, it's a form of torture all of its own and should have been incorporated into the new technique (which, technically, it was in the end, when it became the new system). Beyond that, it's just a question of the length of the punishment, which brings us full circle to the first point.
Still the best show ever.

Dragon Raja and why everyone and everything always has a different name.
If you ever tried to read the manhua, play the game or watch the animated show and got confused by the constant changing of the names of the characters and the lore, I think you'd like to read this little essay.
Hi, I'm hectab, and for some reason I decided to translate Dragon Raja from Chinese to english a couple years ago, which has been strangely enjoyable, but also annoying in some ways.
You see, this is not unique to this franchise, I am aware, but when your Chinese property has a ton of international characters and keeps including real-world mythology from other cultures, you need to start making decisions, because things have different names in different cultures.
So, is your name Johann or...?
For starters, the name of the series is Long Zu (龙族) and it means something like "Dragonkind".
The editorial initially called it "Longzu: Eragon" and then they changed it to "Longzu: Dragon Raja"
Tumblr media
Maybe they mixed "D" with "E"? Maybe they liked how it sounds, maybe they read the western Eragon books, who knows.
You see, Long Zu was never translated, it basically doesn't exist in the west, but it was huge in China, so much that they decided to make an expensive MMO based on the franchise, the results were so flashy that they went global and by 2020 it was nearly everywhere.
Now... Americans are used to a few Japanese words, but are they open to Chinese ones?
What about people that aren't familiar with anime and manga?
How do we market a guy called Chu Tianjiao? Screw it, we'll call him John.
So yeah, they localized a lot of it:
Tumblr media
Funny thing, Luminous already has an American name in the books but there was no way they were going to call him Ricardo.
Then the devs decided to change how they call the characters and everything in the middle of the story, which made it even more confusing.
So why is this a problem? Just show people the graph, right? Yeah I guess, but for me the problem was...
The Manhua
First let's address the fan translation:
When I was translating the manhua, in order to avoid making decisions and offering explanations, I just kept the game names, but then I realized that by doing that, I shot myself in the foot, I'll give you an example:
You see, let's mention three not-so-random things from these books:
Caesar's skill: Lian You
A creature: The Kamaitachi
A clan of Japanese mobsters: The Oni
They called each of those things "Devils" (They technically are though).
So now we have three different things with the same name in english, and at some point I had to write stuff like:
"Caesar had to unleash his devils against the devils in the streets while running away from the devils."
Give me a break...
Caesar's name is its own mess, no one can decide how to spell it, even official sources from China contradict themselves, is it Caesar or Cesare?
The official translation of the manhua came out later, but even they decided to change how they call some things in the middle of the story...
Here are the manhua terms that I can recall at the moment:
Tumblr media
Yanling
Ah... Yanling, the superpowers of the series.
I'll explain why Yanling, Ex.Skill, Soul Skill, Sacred Words and Kotodama are exactly the same thing and how the hell that happened:
Yan Ling means something like "the spirits of words" or "sacred words" and it is an ancient Chinese belief in words and names that withhold spiritual power.
You could also call them "magic words", "spells" or "sacred sounds" in western cultures and most importantly: Kotodama in Japanese culture.
That word, "Kotodama"...
Japanese arc, Japanese words!
You see, Jiang Nan is kind of a weeb, he's not hiding it, the franchise is heavily influenced by Anime and Manga, so he tends to take Japanese elements and translate them to their Chinese equivalent, be it culturally or merely linguistically.
For example: Caesar Gattuso's Yanling is called: "Lián yòu".
Lián yòu is the Chinese word for "Kamaitachi" which is a creature from Japanese folklore, three wind-devils with sickle claws that cut people.
Tumblr media
In the original Chinese version they're called "Sickle Ferrets" but if you're translating it to english, should we call them that or do what the game did? "Wind devils".
But wait, since it's directly mentioned that they're from Japanese folklore, maybe we should translate it to Japanese as Kamaitachi.
Or maybe just leave it in Chinese as Lian You?
Now let's say you picked Japanese and called them Kamaitachi, should Yanling be changed to Kotodama then? Should I change Jiude Ya Ji to Sakatoku Aki? Should I change every name to their original culture's equivalent?
In that case the Sheqi Bajia should be changed to the Japanese Yamata no orochi instead of Eight-headed snake in english, but can you see? Right there you have three different ways to translate the exact same thing and they're all correct in their own way.
Other examples of this include:
Tumblr media
I could go on for centuries, those were three books of Japanese stuff.
And then it came out, the...
Donghua / Anime
I don't know why, but the studio refuses to type the names of actual places. I'm not even talking about a translation, this is the original script in Chinese.
The characters clearly talking about China and America, but they never seem to type the actual names of those countries, just very similar-sounding ones... Why is that?
Anyway... That's the end of it.
Writing a wiki about this stuff sure must be fun, huh?

I was just sitting here, studying, and listening to my funny little gay byler playlist when my funny little gay brain had an idea for a funny little gay scenario so I'm going to explain it because there is no way I'm gonna be thinking about this all day on my own.
So we all know that Mike wants to be a writer, right? I'm assuming that's like an established fact (no idea if it's 100% canon but idgaf, it's canon). And as a fellow writer apprentice I know for a fact that the first thing you have to learn is to write in all four literary genres (drama, fiction, nonfiction and poetry), and then when you find the one you're most comfortable with you look into the subgenres and usually find one (or two) and kind of stick with it (this is not always the case but it's the most usual).
Right, so you may be wondering why the fuck am I ranting about my special interest instead of just getting to the point but bear with me dear.
I imagine that Mike is probably more inclined to fiction, and inside that either fantasy or sci-fi (because of the whole being a DM thing, which involves A LOT of fantastic writing and plotting), but he still tried other styles because why not? It's not like he can really experiment with anything else in his life, so might as well. When El and Will moved to California my boy probably had way more free time than before, and I'm guessing he started writing more to distract himself.
--
So he suddenly found himself writing poetry. About nothing in particular, a few of them were about saying goodbye to the summer and welcoming autumn, in others he romanticised random moments, and there were some that he just shoved on the bottom of a drawer in embarrassment when he realised what he was doing. But he had never told anyone about them.
Writing letters to El was easy, like everything with her, they were all organised and simple to read since it was still kind hard for her. He always knew what to write to her about: how was everyone doing, the begging of the school year, his teachers, a lot of 'I miss you's... And asking about Will, he always asked about Will. He found it easier than directly writing to him, since every single time he tried to his mind went blank after "Dear Will".
One afternoon, after recklessly neglecting his best friend for weeks, he decided that enough was enough and promised himself that he wouldn't get up from his desk until he had written a letter to Will. And so he started to write. He spent hours and hours writing and erasing and scratching words, using multiple pieces of paper, saving some and throwing others away, extremely focused. So much that he didn't even hear his mother calling him at dinner time, Nancy had to go up and knock on his door, which made him snap out of his trance.
"Mike, dinner!" She yelled from the hall.
He went down and ate with his family but couldn't concentrate, he wanted to make sure the letter was good, Will deserved at least a decent letter. So as soon as he was dismissed he ran up stairs and locked himself in his room. He suddenly realised he had blacked-out completely and didn't remember essentially anything that was on the papers, so he grabbed what at the time he had considered the best draft and started reading through it. He was shocked. For a moment he thought he was accidentally reading one of his practice poems, but soon realised he had never wrote one titled "Dear Will", well, now he technically had. It was line after line of poetry, describing the feeling of missing Will with metaphors and comparisons such as how the trees miss their leafs on winter. 'You're my summer, Will' he had written on the third page 'I long for you like I do for the flowers on winter'.
What. The. Fuck.
By the time he finished reading through everything it was already past midnight. Mike was speechless. He kept staring at the letter as if hoping that it would change the content on its pages.
He couldn't understand. He had never had any trouble switching back from poetry when writing to El, why was it different with Will? Why did he write him a poem?
Then he abruptly came to a realisation.
"Oh no." He mumbled to himself getting up from the floor. "No, no, no." He staggered towards his desk, landing on his knees. He pulled out all his poems from one of his shelves and he scattered them on the floor. "Oh no."
All of them were about Will. Of fucking course.
The place were they met, their sleepovers, old campaigns, his old house in Hawkins, his drawings... Even the poetic description of an "imaginary person" was just a written portrait of Will.
Mike's whole body went numb. How could it be? Is this even a coincidence? Was Will his muse?
"No." He said, a little louder than intended, and he threw all of it to the trash. He wanted to scream and cry and burn it all.
He just decided to go to bed and never think about it again. But of course, things are never that easy for Mike Wheeler, aren't they? Through his head echoed the question 'Is Will my muse?' Over and over. He knew one thing was true, that letter was one of the best things he'd ever written. Could he even call himself a writer after throwing away his best work?
He groaned and got up from his bed, then he rescued all the crumbled pieces of paper from the trash can and hid them very deep inside of one of his drawers. All would be well if he never wrote a letter to Will ever again. Yes, that's it, that's the best solution. The only solution.
--
Yeah so, that's it, I didn't plan for this to be a whole ass one-shot, just a little thought, but now it's done so thanks for reading!!!!
I thought this could be a cute explanation for why Mike didn't write to Will and heard about him through El instead, but it's just an idea.
edit: I had to go through this again a day after and I changed some minor things (mostly just orthography), I think it's better written now. anyway thanks to everyone who interacted, you're all so nice :')

accent enthusiast and yorkshire citizen here: tho posh pricks and classists attack regional accents (even though by nature these accents are arguably MORE english and retain more germanic features because of less education and/or more rurality, while they sound french) because they hate poor people, i am going to hypothesise that they are also racist
so. i assume youre northern by the sound of your h dropping. h dropping is a very white northern accent trait, people who grew up in places with a significant white majority. however, t dropping is very recent addition to working class northern english which originated with estuary english and spread across the country by ethnic minorities - mostly by second/third gen a. carribbean, south asian and polish people. this creates a new type of working class english which is unique to every city, every ethnicity and every household across britain. its called MBE (multicultural british english). it is usually spoken in places with diverse population. and although not much research has been done on these accents (apart from the one in london bc of fucking course), they are spoken by many many people.
mbe is usually a mix of a. carribbean, south asian, polish and regional slang amd accent features. but one defining characteristic is the t dropping. which again is a pretty new accent feature outside of london. so my hypothesis: they focus on the t dropping specifically because it's unique to ethnically diverse english.
i will talk accents with anyone for hours upon hours upon hours anon i am shaking u by the head for all ur thoughts rn. im not from up north! im a midlands girlie through and through, rural england right by the welsh border. mine is technically a rhotic accent with hints of welsh?? but my town in particular has much more welsh elements than midlands elements just bc of how close we are to the border?? idk my accent has been known to confuse people far and wide lol. the perks of being from the midlands truly.
everything you've said here is new to me, are there any sources/articles you could send me so i can read more? this seems super interesting!
i do however know a bit about midlands' accents/rural english accents, and from what i know of them, the 'dropping Ts' part of certain dialects has been present for centuries. it's called the glottal T (which is v funny to me bc saying that out loud on its own will reveal to people if you t-glottal or not). it's really hard to find out where this originated from and i cant speak for up north but ik in my area the general consensus is that it's just. always been around (which i know can't be true so again! if anyone has any sources or knows anything im such a nerd about these things so pls dont be shy!). still, i always thought it came from old english and a lot of influence from scots? and from my knowledge from its origins in england i always thought it did START with the rural areas like mine? alas for my own sanity i try not to research t-glottalling too much bc even the 5 mins i did for this to double check my facts had me seeing words like 'insidious' and 'lazy' and 'ugly' being thrown about literally bc of a single letter. like insidious are we being serious rn. someone tell barnaby from kent to take deep breaths.
the polish thing really interested me here though bc ive heard once or twice people say about my dialect/region that there are polish elements, and as someone who knows nothing about polish i couldn't really pinpoint to you what it was or anything but seeing it in your ask i was like !!!!! fr !!!!! it's interesting that this could be why people say that.
going back to h-dropping and t-glottalling, my region is actually RENOWNED for 'dropping letters and syllablles left right and centre' <- direct quote from someone trying to explain it lmao. like we've got very farmer accents to the point my flatmate once - very rudely - went on and ON about me having a west country accent and even when i explained it to her over and over that no just bc i have a RURAL accent doesnt mean it has to be west country, she still wouldn't let it go and tried to make a joke that my accent was 'inbred' bc of it. this is the flatmate i made cry and is now too scared to stay at our flat though so all is well <3 so yeah it's not just the northerners! even if we all have to suffer at the hands of the RP folk
the mbe thing is super interesting though bc while i dont know enough about it to speak on the letter dropping, i do know that my own accent has picked up a couple mbe features since coming to uni (mainly just new slang than actual accent but ive had to catch myself a couple times icl). not only is my uni city one of the most multicultural cities in england, but a lot of the student population are from london, which IS the most multicultural city in england. i know there's the stereotypical roadman accent that a lot of people tease about, but that is of course hugely inspired by the ethnicities you listed, particularly caribbean, and a lot of that comes right out of london. there's definitely something to be said about the fact that the people who most often get called chavs/get slated for being rough are also the ones who speak with that multicultural accent. like i WONDER what that's about

are you still accepting top 5 asks?
if so: top 5 rwby fight scenes :)
Team RWBY & Team JNPR vs. Death Stalker and Giant Nevermore - the iconic scene that took RWBY from being a bad show I was watching because a friend liked it to a show that I thought had potential to be something special.
Blake and Yang vs. Adam - You will see throughout this list that I love Yang's fights, but this is definitely my favorite of them. Between the shipping moments and the way Yang in particular gives Adam the business during the fight, this one's fantastic. There are a few moments where it stumbles and the way it's spread out so much over like 3 episodes annoys me, but this is definitely an incredible fight for me. Also, the ending is demonstration #123946827 that Yang is smart as hell that the fandom likes to ignore in favor of pigeonholing her into the role of dumb funny party girl who needs simple concepts explained to her for some fucking reason.
Qrow vs. Tyrian (Volume 4) - We got a taste of how top-tier combatants fight with Qrow vs. Winter in Volume 3, but this was the fight that first offered us a look at what happens when two of Remnant's truly elite combatants go all-out in a fight to the death.
Yellow Trailer - This was the fight that showed us just how incredibly good (and smart) Yang is in combat. It established her toolkit, tactics, and technical skill. There is so much going on if you know where to look, and almost everything she does in combat throughout the series is built on the foundation the Yellow Trailer laid.
Pyrrha vs. Cinder - We see how incredibly powerful Pyrrha can be when she's going all-out... and we see that it doesn't fucking matter when a Maiden cuts loose. This fights sets the stakes for the powerscaling for Volumes 4 and onward and presents Cinder as someone the heroes are really going to have to work to defeat.
Honorable mentions:
Yang vs. Mercury - No special gimmicks, no fancy weapons (by the standards of the series), just two badass martial artists throwing down. Love this fight.
Team RWBY vs. the Ace-Ops - We get to see how far Team RWBY has come and just how good they are at tactics within small-scale fights (literally everyone picks the right matchup and comes out ahead because of it)
Qrow vs. Winter - First time we get to see professional Huntsmen and Huntresses fight instead of just students and it was glorious. Also, that fight and its preceding/subsequent interactions almost singlehandedly spawned Qrowin, one of my favorite ships.
Raven vs. Cinder - Maidenbowl Maidenbowl Maidenbowl! This fight was sick as fuck but unfortunately all the budget for Volume 5 that Gray Haddock didn't manage to steal for Gen:Lock or whatever his shitty robot show was called went to it so the gang spent most of the Volume chilling in a house and then we got the shitshow that was the rest of the fight at Haven.
Ironwood vs. Watts - This was a really clever and interesting fight with a ton of good character work involved.
I also have a soft spot for that time Pyrrha shat on Team CRDL in a 4v1 because fuck those losers

If you met Tessa and Scott, what would you say to them or ask them? (Individually and together)
OOOFF!!
What a loaded question
I’m going to take this as “What would you ask if you got to interview them” because there’s no way in hell I would cope in a M+G situation I would be awkward AF, sweat, stutter, cry probably, most likely faint.. nah I need a few hours and half of that will be me trying not to sweat and cry.
You would not believe the amount of times I have fantasised about getting to interview them! I’m not saying I would be good at it but so often they always get asked the same questions and that’s partly the reason they give the same answers.. one thing I would manage to do though is not ask them about any “‘’’’’’’ relationship””””” stuff- at least the typical way it’s always asked
Also I have been secretly hoping someone would ask me this so I would have an excuse to post my answers coz honestly I feel like a dick just posting this fantasy of mine unprompted
I’m gonna say before hand that some of this stuff is probs too personal and I wouldn’t necessarily expect them to answer- like when I go to ask them I would likely say ‘if this is too personal you don’t have to answer’. I think if it was maybe asked in the right way or with the right intentions- which I don’t feel a lot of interviewers in general have, they would answer though. So anyway just saying that up front so I don’t have to say it in every third sentence below.
So for me there’s two main things I’m really interested to hear from them that I don’t feel they have ever discussed in depth.
1. I am really fascinated with their physical relationship. This is everything from technical partnering- dance, lifting etc, choreography and movement language, storytelling, and then physical intimacy including things like The Hug, their handhold (the handy holdy) and then just the way they handle each other- the softness, the gentlenesss, the heart eyes, the closeness. Then how all of this plays with their connection and communication and all the things they talk about that went into cultivating their partnership- how that manifests physically.
That is very wide reaching and I think I would need at least 3 hours just to talk about all of that stuff (I would legit need like 5 hours with both of them, then like an additional two hours each of them alone so they can brag about each other hahahahahahahah) but that’s where a lot of my fascination lies and none of those things I think they have really talked about in depth in any other interview. The first few points are because I’m (was) a dancer and worked a lot with partners, but I never had the opportunity to work with any one partner for a long time nor get to any kind of performance based physical intimacy/connection with (very few stage dancers do coz you never have just one partner your whole career, much less from the age of 7/9- you don’t usually start learning proper partnering till teenage years). The rest is the stuff we all go googly eyes about and you legit don’t see it with other couples (dance pairs and just couples in general). The way they handle each other is so insanely beautiful and I would want to know if they are aware of it or its just so natural they don’t realise.
So, lets break these down into actual questions/proper subsections/dot points to launch off from (coz if one of them starts saying something interesting I’m following them down that train of thought).
Q1:
A) Can you discuss the evolution of your partnering, how as you grew older, stronger and more mature that developed. B) In your book you talk about working with Cirque du Soleil performers to develop your lifts but is there more you can elaborate on that- how you created them, developing program/character specific lifts, transferring from floor to ice (maybe get them to talk about 3 examples of lifts: Pink Floyd serpentine lift, original Funny Face curve lift, Carmen/MR rotational lift). C) How much ballet/ballroom pdd/partnering training did you do off ice (throughout career) and how did that aid you on the ice- closeness and body positions, your movement in harmony is so superior, transferring those techniques to the ice and adapting them for the steps, turns, glide, physics etc.
Q2:
A) once you developed (and continued to develop) your partnering technique- your way of individually moving together as one along with things like lifts, as that trust, safety, comfort with each other grew as far as the physical, athletic component of the sport, how did you then develop your movement- I’m gonna say ‘language’ together? You have said that you felt you became known for having a certain ‘lyrical’ style, yet your body of work proves you are the most versatile team in history. Personally, watching you I feel your style really comes from a much deeper connection and understanding of this language in how you moved together- no matter the specific dance style. So what was developing that language like? Did you find it came naturally as you matured, found styles/music you latched (pun intended) onto? Did you have to refresh/refine/redefine it often/occasionally? (Like working with Jean Marc).
B) Did that language change a bit with each program or was it this constant that you took with you into each new piece? How did the process of developing characters affect the choreographic process- say with something like Carmen or MR, more character driven, and how did that differ to looser themed programs like say Mahler or Latch- where the story is less obvious but very important to the two of you in how you convey movement together. What role did improvisation play in discovering movement? From personal experience I know its always different, but did you find there was a natural rhythm and process to how you found movement together- when one of you move did the other naturally find how to hold or complement the other? I imagine after so long together less and less verbal communication was needed to find movement and your bodies just naturally found each other and moved for each other.
C) You’ve mentioned briefly previously about working with acting coaches, and how especially in the comeback you found this… slightly method-ish approach of starting your movement, interactions and emotion from within- letting how you each feel inform how you interact- along with using character driven prompts, and this allowed each time you danced/practiced it to feel different and in the moment, and like you were really having an experience with each other in the world of your program.. can you elaborate more on that- what was entailed in working with the acting coach, what kind of things did you do, what other acting techniques did you employ? Would you say, speak to each other as your characters, obviously dancing you are communicating through movement but did these kind of things help you in discovering and learning about your characters? I find the way you two dance everything is so informed by what the other does, in a somewhat spontaneous way as if you are really living it in the moment like it hasn’t happened yet (sorry I’m trailing off).
Q3:
A) So there’s these two things you guys do that is pretty unique to you as a team: First thing is The Hug. I know you’ve been asked about it a few times before and it became this quite fascinating process to watch. It must be such a hard thing to verbalise because, the meaning is so internal and emotional, what you’re doing is quite simple but I imagine there’s really a lot going on. So I know how that sort of ritual started but, I’m sure like your dancing and skating and partnership as a whole as you went through more and more experiences together, if you can put it into words what did that ritual of the hug come to symbolise? What else was going on within it? The idea of getting your heartbeats to synchronise is I think maybe the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard, so did you ever get them to and maybe in your desire for achieving that… I don’t know I just have this idea in my head that when you started working with B2Ten through heart rate and blood pressure monitoring or whatever they were able to get you to synch up so quickly and efficiently- not so it became robotic, but so it became more automatic and you knew it was gonna be there but then also I can imagine it being your special ritual that was your’s and no one was allowed to touch it and whether some days its was easier or not it had to be this completely natural process.
B) The second thing is, and I’m fully aware this seems like an odd thing to notice and have thoughts about, but within the kind of nature and traditional ‘rules’ within your sport, is often when you guys would be stroking around the ice on like a practice or warm up, is you hold hands, like properly rather than dance hold like, pretty much all other teams do. And, on first glance it doesn’t seem like a big deal but when you notice no one else does it its quite obvious. Then when you watch more, you notice that you guys have to change back to dance hold for things like bows and getting into partnering, so it’s not super convenient-that’s why dance hold exists. But I also just think it’s so indicative of you guys being this TEAM.. like it just makes you appear so strong and together, and less like this distanced dance pair. I know you’ve said- in relation to your IWTHYH exhibition, that “holding each other’s hand is the most intimate thing two people can share”, and I thought that was so inspiring, and I think really says a lot about your partnership- that you can show your love for each other through the most simple of gestures. So I’m wondering was this a conscious decision to start holding hands like this, and progressively more and almost exclusively when you came back in 2016, or was it like with the hug it just happened one day and you found you really liked it a lot more than dance hold? Was it ever noticed by coaches or judges or officials etc and frowned upon? What do you feel that hand hold gave you? It feels like watching you there was just this sense of empowerment and invincibility- not immune to failure or anything, but you were just stronger. It feels very empowering.
Q4:
(this would be prefaced with “if its too personal…..”) So I’m really curious about the physical intimacy you guys share- not only on the ice but somewhat off ice too. From the outside it’s obvious you guys have this beautiful, caring loving relationship- that’s obviously more, or deeper then a normal friendship, but also because it’s platonic… it’s just so unique. And don’t know if you guys realise it.. I mean you know the way you are is not like other ID couples, and I’m not asking this from the pov of what most portrayed as ‘romance’ but the way you guys are with each other is so beautiful, like you’re so gentle with each other and just the way you hold each other and look at each other like the world could be ending around you and you wouldn’t blink. And when I see it I don’t think ‘romance’ I just see these two people, living so artistically and you just have this aura as if your souls are connected, when you’re together it’s like the air is thinner, or as you’ve said creating this bubble where you only see each other and that’s such a safe space. So I guess what I’m curious to know is what does that mean to both or you? Being able to be that way, so unashamedly, was it always that easy or when did it become easy? Whether it’s kinda in the context of a program practice or just, I guess it’s being each other’s support system and confidant. I know you’ve kinda called bs in the past at the idea that anything that you do is played up for the crowd or the judges- I mean there is that in ice dance of convincing the judges of chemistry- but you guys never needed to, so it really just seems like it comes from this place of overwhelming love and care for each other. I know you’ve both said that you are very sensitive people and I can kinda see that in the way you treat each other that your always so aware of the others feelings and energy. Its just really beautiful, and then you see that gentleness in your partnering as well. It’s an odd thing to explain.. S I remember you saying how when T came back after surgery and you were being so gentle with her, afraid she would break. I think that’s so sweet, but then in a way, it’s like that softness continued and you’re both that way with each other and it’s not out of fear of the other breaking, its just this care and kind of, protection of each other, almost on a spiritual level. I’m sorry this rambled on forever, so I guess this was just a long complement for the both of you but if you may I’d love to know what your thoughts on that are, if you were consciously aware of it, and I guess, if you miss it- being able to be that close and physically caring of each other. To watch from the outside it’s very emotional and, if I’m reading it right, the care you have for each other is so visceral, I just wonder if it felt that magical for the two of you, after so long it still seemed just as special and emotional.
Follow up: how do you reconcile the physical nature of your relationship - all that in between stuff- the not choreography or the performing, with how you are removed from that. I think the way you treat each other off ice- out of that ‘athletic partnership’ just as best friends is so beautiful, unique and full of love as well, but it is different- it inevitably is out of that athletic/artistic space. Do any of those moments linger with you once you leave the ice for the day? Do they cause conflicting emotions? Is it something that you feel content with keeping in your safe space on the ice or the studio?
*this question/comment would be something I would want to ask them separately as well- obviously word it more specifically for each of them. Full disclosure I would one million% feel awkward AF asking them this but I still really want to know and since there’s a 0.000000001% change of me actually getting to interview them I can just be here feeling my usual amount of awkward.
2. The other thing I’m really curious about is their unwavering commitment to each other. Their unbreakable loyalty. Truly why skating with someone else was never an option- like at all. Why they wouldn’t do DWTS or BOTB or perform one-off with other partners, let alone form a new competitive partnership. When that really started to set in that they would only do this with each other. Beyond the work they put in starting at a really young age of cultivating respect and strong work ethic, why they chose so early on to only be with each other. Do they consider their partnership to be this exclusive thing like that of making a vow to each other. The way they often talked and still talk about how special it was…
So I think these questions maybe a little briefer. These again are questions I would ask them both together and separately. There’s something interesting about this/these questions, the topic of them, I think this is something they would often discuss privately together, but feel less comfortable answering together. I’m not sure, I just know based on things they’ve said how they would talk openly about how they felt about each other and things like.. that they told each other their biggest fear was letting the other down, that they are happier for each other then themselves, or they care more for each other than themselves. Yes they have admitted saying this stuff (that’s how I know) but I wonder would a question like this- their commitment to each other be more openly answered separately then together- that they would discuss this stuff, how they feel privately together but not publicly together. Does that make sense??
Ok so some specific questions:
Q1: Can you discuss your commitment to each other? It’s so obvious based on the fact you never wanted to change partners, stuck with each other through injuries and semi-retirement, actual retirement, all the pressure and outside people nit picking at your partnership and off-ice relationship, protecting your amazing friendship and kinda companionship in each other for so much of your lives. The strength of your bond and commitment to each other just seems stronger then steel. You wouldn’t even do DWTS or BOTB- dance/skate professionally with other partners. Is your partnership to the both of you, somewhat of an exclusive- “marriage”- like commitment to each other-not an actual marriage but a commitment to each other that you would never break? Was it this combination of the work you put in and learning to care for and respect one another for the success and growth of your partnership, and along with that developed this genuine emotional connection?
Follow up: the way you often talk about it, not just what you say but the emotion with which you say it, it really feels like it was just so special to you and it was in a sense, like this love language- a language only the two of you spoke, and it was this thing that was so necessary you take care- that you took care of each other, and this partnership. This connection where it seemed like if one of you felt broken the other could feel it to. It’s sometimes like when I hear you get asked about dancing/skating with other people there’s this hurt and fear in your voices about the thought of having to do this without each other. You’ve said how the thought of singles skating is terrifying and what gave you so much strength was having each other. So what was that like? Can you describe some of the emotional factors behind protecting your partnership throughout your skating career?
Follow up: how important is it to the both of you that each other is the one that you have in a sense, for a huge part of your life, trusted with your life- your emotions, your wellbeing, your insecurities, your body, your heart. And how important is it to you that even now, you protect that bond and keep it as this incredibly strong and loving relationship even though your life circumstances are very different?
Follow up: do you consider yourselves to be part of each others family?
(I’m aware these questions are very long winded. In an interview situation I would try to cut them down- I hate when the interviewer talks too much- but that’s when it’s about themselves and not the interviewee- for me I just want to give them so much praise and complements and- not talk about myself but tell them how they make me feel- maybe give them a glimpse at what it’s like to witness from the outside these smaller things others haven’t brought up before).
Ok, now for some individual questions. As I said a lot of the stuff above I would also ask them individually because of the way they gush about each other there is stuff you would maybe get when the other is not there- this being a huge dilemma is they just think the freaking world of each other that the whole interview may be spent complementing each other. However I will say it’s amazing how good they are at accepting complements to their face- so often that can be cringy (unless you’re a narcissist) but I think they can take it so maturely because they DO think the world of each other so its easy to look each other in the eye and say think is what I think and feel about you because they know it is honest and they feel the same way.
Some questions first for Tessa: (I’m not gonna go in depth on these ones)
Her ballet/dance upbringing. Did she do exams (if so what syllabus) when did she go on/how long was she on pointe for (I doubt when they moved away and were skating full time she bothered with pointe shoes in the ballet she did do, not often at least) did she compete in solo/group dance competitions like with skating. What’s her favourite ballet/dance production, if she could perform one principal ballet role what would it be
Preparing skates: breaking in, care etc (compared to say pointe shoes- there is a whole process I imagine there would also be with skates I would just want to know everything about that coz I find it interesting) - I could ask either of them this really
I would like to ask her about that physical intimacy stuff without Scott- just from a female pov and being in a dance/performance environment- so it’s not your actual ‘SO’ partner, being so beautifully treated in that ‘dance partner’ relationship so there’s that element of friendship but mostly professionalism and a bit of presentation, what that felt like and yeh…. Does she miss it.
Scott:
I would probably just geek out over The Office with him. Bond over Modern Family quotes and being able to remember really random lines of dialogue.
This was touched on in the KOP podcast but I would go into more depth about his artistic journey. His relationship with the artistry side of the sport, other topics of that nature. Also that period in their teens when they made two big moves/coaching changes, how that affected him on top of puberty- as he says he could be a bit of a dick (and could’ve been nicer to Tessa) back then. How did he manage that then and how does he reconcile it now- its not a bad thing, we all go through shitty stages through our teens and when they were legit training for the olympics (2006) and winning international juniors comps- the pressure both from the outside and on themselves would be challenging to deal with- also the affect moving away from his family had on him.
One final question for both of them: WTF was that water bottle shit they had going on at that press conference at Finlandia Trophy in 2011??

Dillon POV
I walked into the studio, greeting everyone. “Hey, good to see you.” I gave them an hand. “Nice to have you here brother.” “Yeah No worries, its cool here.” I took place on the sofa as the technical guys moved around. “Did you had a good car ride?” “Yeah yeah, not so busy on the roads.” “Cool.” They placed drinks on the table and moved some microphones towards us. “You ready for some real talk?” “Always, you know me don’t you.” They laughed as I leaned a bit further to the back, tying to get comfortable.
“So we are here with the Dillon Danis, Dillon thank you for joking us today.” “No worries, thank you for inviting me.” “Of course, we know each other for some time now.” I nodded. “How long do we know each other.” I sighed, thinking about the answer “5 years I think.” “Yeah 5 maybe 6 years.” “Crazy.” We all laughed. “Dillon we have this jar, and this jar is filled with the most random questions.” They held up a jar filled with paper. “And we will take out one question at the time and we all have to answer the question.” I laughed. “Okay.. lets start then.” They opens the jar and picked out one paper. “Okay the first question is; how long does it take to get drunk.” We all laughed. “4 beers.” “No way, 4?!” I asked in disbelief. “Yep, four beers and I am gone.” We laughed. “How much for you then Dillon.” “Not four, I don’t know above 15 beers or something.” “15 don’t talk crap, 15 beers.” “Yeah I’m not that fast drunk.” “15 is a lot man, that’s really a lot.” “Not if you drink the whole night.” They shook there heads. “I was more thinking of 8 or something.”
We’ve done a lot of questions, some funny ones, some more serious than others. “Okay next question, do you have a crush.” I smiled while taking a sip from my red bull. “Danis has, look at him hiding his smile.” I laughed. “I do have a crush on someone.” “Really?!” I nodded. “Who, do we know her?” “Yes you guys do know her.” “Who?!” I shrugged my shoulders. “Guess.” They started to yell some names. “Guys you are never going to guess it.” They went quiet, thinking who it could be. “Y/N.” One of them said. I smiled and nodded. “No way, you have a crush on Y/N?” “Yeah I do.” “But she is so not your type.” “She is definitely my type..” “No she isn’t, she is not like the girls your always with in the club, or hooking up with.” “He’s right Dillon, you never hang out with a woman like her.” I nodded. “True but those are not the type of women I would spend my whole life with, they are you know for fun, hooking up and all that.” “So Y/N huh..” they wiggled their eyebrows. “Yeah… crazy huh.”
——— after a few days, the video went viral.
I was hanging out in the gym when I heard someone yell my name. “Dillon!” Y/N walked up to me. “Hey Y/N.” She smiled at me. “What your doing here huh.” I leaned against the wall, trying to impress her. “I’m here because I want to talk with you.” I pointed at myself. “Me?” She nods. “Yes with you, if you have time for me.” ‘I Always have time for you.’ “Yeah sure.” I pushed myself from the wall and walked with her to somewhere more private. I sat down and she sat down as well. “Okay, you can talk.” She looked nervous, fiddling with her hands. “I saw a video this morning about you…” “about me?” “Yes and I wanted to talk about it.” “Was I nude?” I joked, she smiles and pushed me against my arm. “No, you where not naked.” “Good would be a bit weird to talk about me being naked don’t you think.” “Dillon.” She says in a shocked way. “Okay sorry, move on then.” I looked at her as she looks down at her hands. ‘Something is bothering her.’ “Hey, you can talk to me about everything,I won’t judge you.” I grabbed her hand and carefully caresses the back of her hand with my thumb, smiling at her. She nods. “Do you really have a crush on me?” I felt my heart stop for a moment. “You saw that video?” “Yes its going viral all over the internet.” “Did it dropped today?” “Yes this morning.” I went with my other hand through my hair. “Listen its okay if its true or not but I just want to know if your not playing around with me here.” “Do you like me?” Ignoring her question. “Well, yeah I do like you but if you don’t like me like that its fine…” I grabbed her face and placed a quick kiss on her lips. “I don’t lie about anything babe. You should have known that.” She blushes. “Still wanted to check.” “But you like me too?” She nods. “Me? The villain, the bad guy. Are you sure you like me?” “Yes you Dillon.” She nudges my arm while I pull her closer to me. “Then go on a date with me then.” “Dillon I would love that but I also know you, you’re not a guy that dates, you’re more guy that liked to hook up, going out with the guys, see beautiful women. I don’t know if I want to get heartbroken by you.” She slide a bit back from me. Her eyes told me everything. “I know I’m normally not like that but I want to give that all up, if it means I have you.” I carefully reached out for her. “I don’t know Dillon.” “I understand, I really do. Just give me one chance to proof it to you. One date with you.” She smiles. “Okay one date.” I nod at her. “I promise you won’t regret this.” I kissed her hand. “Okay, you better not screw this up Dillon.”

how does one get into baseball. can you just start watching a random thing or should you try to start at the beginning of a season or like. hows that work
here was my process
have boyfriend who loves baseball (this is truly not an essential step bc i went a year and a half of our relationship before making any active moves towards getting into baseball but having someone in your life who loves it DOES help)
read The Echoing Green by joshua prager, a book chronicling a sign-stealing (cheating) scandal that led to and marred one of those home runs informally monikered The Shot Heard Round the World bc of its impact on baseball fans during a time when baseball was still really popular in the usa. the book was written by a journalist who is an avid baseball fan, so it's FULL of statistical information, technical terminology, humanity, and deep, elegant, funny, sad, joyful insights into the role of the sport within people's minds and american (and global) culture. it's additionally about the giants and dodgers, bf's team and bf's team's eternal rivals
look up a lot of definitions and explanations while reading that book, start to become enamored with the weirdness of the game
download the mlb app, make an account, and use it to listen to radio broadcasts of giants games, because the app aggregates the radio stations for every team and broadcasts them almost-live for every game, for free
have switch flipped in your brain for you after your first time listening to a complete game on the radio
listen to at least part of every one of your team's games since then except all-stars bc you were on a plane
you don't have to start at the beginning of a season, and a random thing is totally fine! honestly i recommend the live radio steps of my method bc they were hugely accessible and following what's happening with a team in the present day makes things pretty exciting and engaging. (baseball has also been broadcast on the radio for a very long time so it's a cool way to engage with history.) there are also livestreaming piracy sites for sports including one that has had video streams of every baseball game i've wanted to watch rather than listen to .... i can share the url privately if u want. the mlb app/mlb.com also does a Free Game of the Day every day, where the video stream of one game will be free! also there are lots of full games on youtube, and old radio games on archive.org.
i can't in good faith recommend like, reading a long book and going on wikipedia deep dives trying to piece things together and teaching yourself stuff as an entry method for everyone since that's not .... fun, for everyone, but it did a lot towards getting me into the game in a way that exposed me to some of its most interesting elements right from the getgo, so (shrugs). (and it was fun for ME!! hehe) i also sort of had a team picked out for me going in, which helped -- like i totally could've gotten into another but i'd heard about the giants from mar, and about some interesting parts of their character as a team and their history, and for several reasons they on their own were appealing to me so while i listen to a broadcast from other teams now and then i was locked in from the start. which fast tracked me towards caring about specific players, eras, moments. plus, alaska doesn't have a baseball team
re: the season -- the way baseball works is for most of the season every team is playing every other team, more or less, in series of 2-4 games. during this period everything is just hammering out division standings. tournament-stuff starts happening during the postseason (starts october i think?) so that's when jumping in in the middle might get confusing. even then tho u would probably be fine. games happen like, often every day and sometimes twice a day, with occasional rest days
thank u for asking me this this was fun :D feel free to ask me to clarify anything
