Hiii, i’m from the UK so do you have any tips for gcses? I just started year 11 and I noticed you did really well !!!
hihi omgggg im fully prepared for this since i legit had to do an assembly about my tips for the year 11s and 10s HAHAHAH
since this will be pretty lengthy…
okay so these are my subjects and the grade i got in them:
maths -> 9
english lit -> 9
english lang -> 9
history -> 9
religious studies -> 9
business -> 8
spanish -> 8
further maths -> 8
physics -> 8
chemistry -> 7
biology ->
so since you’re in year eleven already, it’ll be quite similar to how i achieved these grades!
i didn’t start revising like that until like the end of the summer that was going into year eleven, so the summer you just had but even if you didn’t start revising during then, you still have time! don’t panic yet!!!
firstly, just have a look at each specification of your subjects and print them out/make a digital checklist because it’ll be really easy to identify your weak spots. you still have until mid may so if you start covering weak spots then by mid february you should be fine. speaking as someone who messed around a lot in year 10, if your notes are good enough or even if you start to pay so much attention in those extra revision classes, they’ll really really benefit you.
for maths and sciences, practise questions are your best shot honestly. for maths as well, most of the exam boards have a cycle of questions they use so if you familiarise yourself with the questions they’ve used since 2017, you’re guaranteed a 7 already but make sure to go over all the topics of the questions you get wrong! then for sciences, learning the language that the examiners like is so important because the marks you miss out can literally be that you didn’t centralise it around a keyword - that can jeopardise your entire sequence of questions.
now for the english subjects. starting off with literature: i always found it good to be engaged with discussions about the texts in class to keep myself from getting boring bc then you can miss out on so many key grade nine concepts! so make sure you do listen out for those and read model answers from people who’ve gotten like full marks! these will not only help you with structure and quotes but it’ll help you with learning the grade nine language because there’s a huge difference between even the grade seven and grade nine answers.
for english language, technique is the most important thing to master. after all, the exam is assessing how you can understand technique so learning how to spot them and analyse them are so important. there are a few that are always repeated no matter the text so make sure you familiarise yourself with those too!
for religious studies, i always found this to be easy since i would put my source of authorities (the holy quotes) on a flashcards with what they link to on the other side but idk tbh my teacher was js really good for religious studies! she made us booklets for preparing ourselves for any type of question and she predicted a bunch of the questions. but my tip would be to just stay focused and make sure your notes are good and minimal because you don’t really need a lot.
for business my tho is the same, my notes were just really good and clear but also make sure you know how to answer big questions!
spanish, i used menrise for fifteen minutes every day until like a month before the exam and i started using it for an hour every day. and i memorised complex structures, imperfect tense like all the grade 9 stuff. i practised writing it and then i spoke it and for listening and reading i would get my friends to help me. for instance, i’d read and translate something my friend wrote which would also help us identify any mistakes. and for listening, we would speak to each other and translate it which was also good for preparing for the speaking exam!
history was my favourite, and my teacher was AMAZING! but for history understanding the links between time periods is very good. also, understanding the link between cause, event and consequence is very helpful as it minimises information. for my 20 markers i got full marks consistently and in the exams, so what i can say about those are to make sure your writing flows very smoothly and learn tips to write sophisticatedly as the whole point of the top hand answers are the elegant answers rather than throwing dates and information - they’re a sequence of detailed sentences to argue a point after all.
further maths was so hard idek how i got an 8, i just practised questions and prayed so much..
i think i covered everything but ensuring you have a timetable is so important. i know many people who did well but didn’t have the same timetable as me which is fine but i’ll share mine:
at the beginning of the year, around the end of september, i would wake up at half five and revise for about two hours until i started getting ready for school. then when i got home, from six to eight was all my homework and extra work.
when it got closer to exam season, my hours would bulk up to waking up at half four and starting after school studying at half five and finishing at half nine. but remember these included BREAKS. breaks are so important or you’ll get burned out!! i’ve seen it happen.
i also had one day a week where i would only study for about two hours, at any time if the day, and for the rest of it i would treat myself or just relax ! this was so important for a balance and i kept it up until the very end of my exams. if you don’t have this day, you’ll literally fry your brain and get exhausted.
i hope my tips helped! don’t wear yourself out, start little by little every day and i’m always here if you need help with anything else! good luck and remember to have time for fun, year eleven only comes around once. good grades are important but they aren’t the be all and end all.

Tumblr media
Your room stared at you with its mess clearly on display, the mess created by none other than you. Papers stacked everywhere, textbooks half-opened—full of sticky notes and highlighted lines which you didn't bother reading again and your laptop on your bed—biology notes opened on the website.
The exams were just around the corner and any person who interacted with you could clearly see how stressed you had been. The dark circles and neverending sighs were enough evidence of how worn-out you were and this was the case even before the exams had started.
You weren't the only one struggling though, your best friends were in the same boat as you, struggling with a subject that the other mastered.
Even if Heeseung and Jake were struggling as much as you, they were skilled enough to hide it, with no hint of distress on their pretty faces. It made you envious of them, they were what everyone called 'perfect'.
Heeseung was in the university basketball team, his athletic build being attractive as it is but his face added on to it, not to mention—he was great at the sport he played. Winking after each basket he scored was just enough to send the crowd into a state of frenzy with how perfect he was, a social butterfly at its best.
Jake was no less, being in the university football team was something he loved to boast about but was equally passionate about studies, which made him the ideal student in the eyes of professors and, well, made him the ideal guy in eyes of students. Girls were whipped for him as it is but, the guys were no less, staring at him with a mixture of awe and envy whenever he was around.
It was an unusual type of friend group you had, no one understood how you three came together, it was a mismatch as others said yet, you fit with each other perfectly. More importantly, your love for video games glued you together.
Now sitting in the cafe near your apartment, your same two friends exchanged worried glances seeing you bang your head on the table for the third time in a span of fifteen minutes.
And you were going to do so again after taking a sip of your drink but Heeseung kept his hand just in time to prevent your forehead from getting hurt by the wood again. you pouted, looking at him with wary eyes.
“I'm so tired, Hee.” your voice quivers and a sigh leaves your mouth yet again.
He cups your face, pulling you close to him as Jake puts his hand on your shoulder, giving it a light, reassuring squeeze.
“I know, baby. You've been working hard.” his thumbs caress your cheekbones and you practically melt in his touch.
“And we are proud of you.” Jake continued as you turned to look at him smiling from ear to ear.
They were highly affectionate when it came to you and you'd be lying to say it didn't feel good. In the eyes of strangers, it looked like a romantic relationship but, they were also confused if you were with Jake or Heeseung while in reality, you were nothing more than friends.
“We'll study together, ’kay?” Jake reassures you.
“Okay.” you quietly let out, playing with the straw in your drink, stirring it while Jake and Heeseung exchanged looks, nodding with a different glint in their eyes.
“We'll help you relax, sweetheart,” they promised.
Tumblr media
True to their word, both of them stood in front of your apartment sharp at four in the evening, delicate glasses perched on their noses making their aura seem more of the studious kind than they essentially were.
Jake's toothy grin made you feel at peace already, your day wasn't the best. Apparently, waking up to two new assignments isn't the most motivational thing to start your day to.
“Thank you for coming over,” you said, hugging them both once they sat down on either side of you. “You guys can stay for dinner as well! We can get a takeout.”
“What would you like to eat though?” Heeseung asked.
“Uhh—we can have ramyeon, I've got your favourite one!” you smiled, satisfied with your ideas.
The boys looked at each other, a small smile playing on their lips which almost looked naughty.
“Sounds like the perfect way to end the day.” Heeseung appraised.
Sitting down, they started getting their study material out. Starting with physics wasn't the best idea, it had you slumping against Jake's shoulder in just thirty minutes.
“I can't do this anymore.” you groaned.
Jake lifted your chin using his slender pointy finger. “You won't be able to study if you stress this much.” he frowned, softly running his thumb on the creases of your forehead to relax it.
“Take a break if required,” Heeseung spoke, placing his large hand on your thigh and squeezing it lightly.
Your breathing hitched with the proximity, they've always been tender with you yet this particular setting elicited something new inside you.
“Come on.” they guided you towards your bed which looked comfier than ever at this certain moment. You wordlessly follow them as if they had you under a trance, Heeseung's hand on your lower back only tingled your spine at the bare minimum contact. He sat down with his back against the headboard, getting comfortable putting a pillow to support him.
He patted the space just in front of him, asking you to sit in between his legs. You looked up at Jake who gave you a nod of encouragement as you sat there, his toned chest against your back.
He placed his hands on your shoulders, giving them a subtle massage, his fingers digging in the most soothing way possible, his face near your ear, close enough for you to hear his breathing.
Jake decided to work on your legs, massaging your middle thigh area, rubbing circles with his thumb. The direct contact of his warm hands against your cold legs was delightful—too delightful when he started moving his hands up so they were near your core.
Seems like they both were on the same page as Heeseung's hands were also trailing down your clavicle, too close to your boobs. You closed your eyes, your breathing heightening as sudden wetness started pooling around in your panties, the kind that would definitely show in your shorts.
Lips bitten, you tried not to make any absurd sounds. Thinking of your best friends in such a manner wasn't something new to you, they were attractive and your body fully responded to the fact.
“Feels good?” Jake asked, his accent thicker than ever.
“Mmh,” you replied, not trusting yourself with words.
“Use your words, baby.” Heeseung whispered, nibbling on your earlobe as his hand finally grabbed your right tit, his other hand playing with the drawstring of your shorts.
“Fuck—yes it does ah!”
Jake smirked, his plump lips bitten as he rubbed your clothed pussy which dampened the material enough for them to know how much they affect you with the mere touches.
Your palms covered your face, trying to hide your embarrassment but they only chuckled.
“don't cover your pretty face, we need to see you, love,” Heeseung spoke, his fingers untying the drawstrings and Jake softly asking you if he can take your clothes off, to which you nod.
“Why are you two dressed?” you ask in a small voice and that was all it took for them to remove their t-shirts, while Heeseung also removed your top.
You could feel the warmth of his back radiating now that you didn't have any clothing restrictions on your body, just your bra and underwear with two men who wanted to devour your body.
“More!” you mindlessly spoke as if they had magic and were taking all your stress away from you.
“More huh? What does my girl want?” Heeseung asked, moving his positions so that you lied down on the bed.
“Want you.” a whimper left your mouth as Heeseung got in between your thighs, peppering kisses all over your inner thighs as his hands made sure to keep your legs open, his arms flexing in the process which only added to his godly features.
Meanwhile Jake swiftly unclasped your bra by lifting you a bit, his tongue swiped his lower lip at the sight. He wasted no time in sucking your hardening nipples.
“Fuck, so pretty,” Heeseung said, removing your underwear to see your dripping wet core. He touched it using his two fingers to collect your arousal and proceeded to lick it, humming at the taste. “Been waiting for this for so long,” he admitted without any shame.
“Wanted to kiss your body from so long." Jake hummed along.
It was as if your cheeks were on fire, they had been thinking about you from 'long' as they mentioned. To think back, they've never talked about their sexual activities like your other friends did.
Heeseung didn't feel like holding back anymore, his tongue licked a stripe of your cunt as you bucked your hips for more contact, your eyes fixated on the pretty boy who expertly moved his muscle where you wanted him the most.
Jake caressed your cheek, placing hot kisses on your neck, trailing them up to your lips where he finally kissed you with zeal. The kiss was messy, your fingers kneaded in his soft locks, tugging at them hard enough to make him groan as Heeseung continued to lap at your core fervently, making you moan into Jake's mouth.
He took this opportunity to insert his tongue in your mouth, smiling at how your body shivered as both men pleased you. Leaning back for a second, he looked into your eyes while fondling your tits.
“Look at me, baby.”
And you looked at him with hooded eyes, your room felt misty, as if the air was filled with the drug of intimacy.
The eye contact was short lived as Heeseung decided to fasten his pace, your hand clasping his shoulder as he moves his tongue over your most sensitive spot, rhythmically almost.
You could feel your orgasm building up, your legs shook, trying to close themselves with how sensitive your pussy was and Heeseung's thumb rubbing your clitoris only added to that.
“You're going at me when you cum,” Jake instructed as he gently held your chin, making you look at him. “Right?” he asked and you mustered a nod.
Your brain stopped comprehending the moment Heeseung gently sucked your clitoris, mouth opening to let out a moan but only your deep breaths came out as you stared into Jake's eyes, him watching your expression intently as if trying to memorise you as a whole.
You came all over his tongue and he licked your fluids clean, “That's our good girl.” he smiled, coming up to get a taste of your lips as well, kissing you deeply while Jake patted your head softly, letting you come down from your euphoria.
“My turn.” Jake simply said before getting in between your legs.
“Permission to fuck your stress away, beautiful?” his constant praises made you blush, you hadn't even noticed when he removed his pants, the erect dick teasing your sensitive folds was huge, the tip leaking with precum which he smeared for easy thrusting.
“P–please!” your broken voice begged.
The boyish smile on his face made you swoon, he knew you were in dire need of getting fucked yet he wanted to pause a little just to tease you a bit.
“Please what, baby?” he cooed and Heeseung rolled his eyes. “Do it or I will.”
The warning was enough to push him. Literally. He pumped his cock a few times before pushing in slowly, as your eyes teared up at the stretch which evidently was too pleasing for you to put into words.
Meanwhile, Heeseung had gotten rid of his own pants, the tip of dick being red, in essential need to be taken care of. He grabbed your free hand, wrapping his fingers around your own as he made you stoke his length while Jake easily slid in and out of you, grateful for your wetness which allowed him to do this with ease.
“Come on baby, be a good girl and let Heeseung use your mouth, yeah?”
“Yes!” you desperately let out, barely registering when Heeseung came closer and tapper your cheek twice, your mouth opening up in its own accord as if you were under a trance and these two pretty boys were controlling you.
“Slack your jaw, baby.” he commanded.
Which they actually were, in all ways you could have wanted them to. You took him in your mouth, trying your best to bob your head up and down while stroking the part you could reach.
To take it up a notch, Jake fucked into you harsh enough for the sounds to resonate the room, the outcome was you moaning and choking on Heeseung's length, the vibrations coursing a wave of sensitivity—strong enough to make him twitch in your mouth with the deepest groan you've ever heard.
“You like that? You like it when I fuck you that deep and fuck your stress out? Want me to fill your pretty hole with my pups?”
You couldn't say a thing, you wanted to scream yes but it seems like they understood telepathically. Heeseung pulled out as you took a deep breath, your hormones, emotions and sensitivity heightened by miles.
“Fuck my stress away please,” you weakly let out, your brain wanted both of them at once. “Need you both!”
You looked at Jake on top of you, his cheeks were flushed and eyes dilated with a sheath of sweat on his forehead, he looked gorgeous while doing the bare minimum.
Heeseung joined him, lifting your leg for a better access to your dripping hole, all three of you very close to your highs. And he thrusts into you slowly with a deep groan, letting you adjust to the new addition, tears freely flowing down your cheeks as Heeseung bent a little to kiss them away.
Both their groans echoed in your ear, it threatening to to make you cum then and there yet you hold it for a little more longer.
They rubbed their cocks in you, panting with the urgency to make you cum faster while also chasing their orgasm,  your bodies connected perfectly and even the minute things such as their breathing made you lose your mind, you knew you wouldn't last any longer.
“C—cum in me please!” you cried out before arching your back and creaming both their cocks, the expression on your face was a sight to see and your dirty request sent them into overdrive.
“Fuck, y/n.” they collectively cussed, releasing their thick hot cum in you, successfully filling you up with their pups as promised before.
They placed several kisses all over your face, suddenly making you giddy as they pulled out, sitting back to stare at your pussy which was now dripping with their cum, creating a mixture with your own fluids.
“So pretty.” they marvelled at the sight.
You yanked Heeseung forward in a kiss, Jake resting right beside you as he took out a cloth, going to the washroom to get it wet for cleaning you up.
“You did so well for us.” He smiled as he softly used the wet towel on you, getting you some fresh comfortable clothes from your closet while Heeseung disappeared somewhere after wearing his own clothes.
“You hungry, baby?” he asked, pecking your forehead. The atmosphere was so calm all of a sudden that you had forgotten about your stress altogether.
“Mhm.” you nodded with a small smile and he asked you to wait for a few minutes more.
The faint aroma coming from the kitchen told you that Heeseung was making ramyeon, which was correct.
They were hellbent on feeding you with their own chopsticks, almost fought like kids while doing so contrasting their behaviour from a few minutes back.
“You guys took do you want to eat ramyeon with me too seriously”
They laughed, “It helped though.”
“Are you still stressed, baby?” Heeseung asked, smirking.
You smirked back.
“Round two?”

so i've been having a few ideas, and in a moment of inspiration did some doodles for this dsmp au i have-
mildly inspired by a few YTers and concepts i've seen, and i've even done a few doodles for it
so, heres the premise: its basically a videogame au, most dsmp characters are in and are NPCs. ind of a victorian era cos i thought: hey! what if ghostbur was a sad sick victorian teen
Starring: Ghostbur, aka Wilbur Soot III, Wilbur (around l'manberg arc), aka Wilbur II, and Revivebur, aka Wilbur I. Niki Nihachu, aka Niki (im not creative with this one ok) Philza, aka rich almost absent dad, techno, aka Billiam, Wilbur II's private tutor. And a few hermitcraft cameos.
Setting: Like I said, victorian era. Mainly based in a manor I have some rough sketches of. maybe i'll do a street.
[you, the viewer, or 'player', plays Friend :) ]
Characters:
Wilbur III
Around fifteen, gets sick easily and prefers not to go out in any sort of harsh weather. Talks to Friend a lot [how the story moves along] Youngest of three, twin to Wilbur II. Is called Ghost a lot because he goes into a daze and 'disappears'. Reminds people of a younger Wilbur I
Wilbur II
Older twin to Wilbur III. Is the favourite of the family, being the only mildly healthy one. Enjoys music and writing, but has to do a lot of studying for other subjects, and is very busy. Taught by Billiam. Best friends with Niki.
Wilbur I
About seventeen, eighteen. Ran away as soon as he could, no one knows where he went. A bit crazy, almost burned the manor down once. Only two people who know much about him except Philza, who downright refuses to talk about him, and Quackity, whose face goes dark whenever mentioned.
Billiam [Techno]
Around Phil's age. Has a few degrees, but doesn't talk about it. The twin Wilburs don't trust him much, but Phil trusts him and they go way back so Wilbur II doesn't say much. Tutor to Wilbur II, has actually met Wilbur I but no one really knows.
Phil(za)
Dad to three Wilburs, loser in the creative department. Kinda rich, works for some obscure business. A little more background, like Billiam. Wife is deceased, has not found another, does not intend to. Rumours of a fling surround the matter, but was quickly shut down.
Niki
Around Wilbur III & II's age. Has odd pink hair that draws unwanted stares, so doesn't go out a lot. Is a ward of the doctor hired to take care of Wilbur III, thats how she met Wilbur II. Edgy around Wilbur III, and despises Wilbur I, whom she'd somehow met before.
Quackity
A little older than Wilbur II. Knows Wilbur I from 'back then'. No one knows his actual name. Likes to tell stories about his 'adventures', but will immediately get angry when Wilbur I is mentioned. Wants to be a business tycoon.
okay, this has been a very confusing list [with all the wilburs and all] but its time for the hermits!
Cleo
Younger than Phil or Techno, Older than Wilbur I. The doctor hired to watch Wilbur III, a little unethical and expensive but does her job really well and is great with kids. The legal(ish) guardian of Niki, brings her to the Soot Manor bc she can't find anyone to watch her. Takes the bus from her city to Wilburs' town.
Joe Hills
The pharmacist/apothecary that Cleo sometimes mentions. Doesn't appear often, but is stated multiple times that he is the one preparing most of Wilbur III's medicine, and even Phil's.
Grian
Older brother of Tommy, a kid that lived down the street from Wilburs. Seems, normal enough, albeit a little off putting, and is courteous and gentleman-like. However, in private, is even more feral than his little brother; do not engage. Comes from Cleo's city, moves back and forth constantly.
Thats all i have so far. literally. tell me what you think! also i will post the doodles tmrw or some convenient time lol

Hey first of all I hope you have a nice day ^^ And I wanted to know if I could do a request ? Maybe a headcanon for Hanzo, Genji, Sombra, Lucio and Jesse I hope it's not too much, with a reader who is in the middle of an exam period and who is very stressful, spends her days and nights to revise their lessons, I would like to know how they would react to seeing their s/o like that if it's possible please. Maybe S/o can be female or gender neural? I thank you in advance for taking my request 🤗
I’m so sorry this took so long to come out- especially since exams are over for most people! But I hope everyone did really good on them and aren’t to stressed out by the outcome.
Format: Headcanons
Word count: 5161
Warnings: uh Exams??? School maybe dunno.
Hanzo:
Hanzo is no stranger to intense amounts of stress, though he’d also never encourage his partner to just stop studying. Repetition and practice is very important after all.
So he’d sit down with you and help you study for your exams even going so far as to form a study program for you. He’d spend as much time as possible helping you feel ready.
Hanzo does still understand the value of breaks and proper rest. So every forty five minutes you’d both take a small fifteen minute break. The break would most likely be used to do something physical like stretching to help calm your mind. He’d also sprinkle in a little bit of meditation to help ease the anxiety.
Something he definitely does not approve of thought is you staying up late into the night to study. You need rest having spent most of the day studying and revising. So at eight pm every night he’d make sure all school related things were put away and not mentioned again.
Honestly I wouldn’ put it past him to also set a mandatory bed time. Ten pm all electronics are off and by eleven the two of you should be sound asleep. An important part in keeping a healthy schedule is getting sleep.
While this may seem not very romantic to others you’ve been with Hanzo long enough to know his overbearing concern and hours spent helping you are exactly how he shows his love. He isn't much of a romantic mainly because of his reserved nature and tendency for self doubt, but he’ll always try for you and that’s what matters.
Genji:
As for Genji, throw everything that Hanzo did into the trash. (kinda- the brothers actually have some similar tendencies)
Genji’s first step is to get you unstressed. The serious stuff can come later. He’ll force you out of the house for a few hours taking you on a small date. He would take you to some of his favorite places like arcades or cute cafes, anywhere really that he can think of that would help with the stress.
Then once you got back home he’d sit down with you and have at it, he’s spent the day destressing you and now he’s going to attempt to help you study while keeping the same low stress levels.
Studying with him would be fun.
Genji is quite creative and would try to find different interests and a bit unorthodox ways of helping you study.
He would explain to you that odd things have a tendency to stick out in people's brains so why not make this a weird and memorable study session.
While his education was quite formal he always had a hard time picking up on what was being taught until his teachers would give up on their usual methods and begin thinking outside of the box to help him learn.
So he’d apply those same methods each time you studied together.
Same with Hanzo he wouldn’t let you stay up into the early hours of the morning instead forcing you into bed with him once he saw you getting too tired or frustrated to continue.
Night Time cuddles and quizzing would become routine for exams week.
Sombra:
Oh boy-
Olivia has no idea how to help, sure she’d try really hard but she’s never had a day of proper education in her life. She doesn’t understand a single topic to the extent needed to help.
But there’s no way that would stop her. She’d sit at her computer helping you by finding the answers to your question. Basically she’d turn into an answer checking machine.
That is really the only practical way she can help.
She’d force you to take breaks and bring you unhealthy snacks while you studied, and when she got annoyed and bored of not having your attention would just come and bother you for a casual makeout session.
Her actual reliability with helping would come when she got frustrated with feeling useless. She’d hack into the school database and find the test questions.
When you tell her the test randomizes the questions so out of those hundreds you’d probably only need to know fifty or so, she cussed to whatever god existed.
She wouldn’t let that stop her though going into the school mainframe to make it so that when your test came up specific questions would be on it.
So now you’d only have to memorize the questions on the test.
Yes that might be cheating, and yes it is slightly immoral but in the end it would definitely pay off.
Lucio:
Honestly im so sorry I can't really think of much for him-
What i do know though is that he’d make you a few study playlists to boost productivity and stock you up on snacks.
He’d give you shoulder massages when you finished studying to keep your shoulders from cramping and would go out of his way to do things around the house that you normally do to make sure you can focus and not stress too much over trivial things.
(once again sorry I genuinely couldn't think of much more-)
McCree:
Now Jesse isn’t stupid by any means, but the boy dropped out of highschool and didn’t pay attention a day he was there.
He has no idea what to do to help. Honestly him trying to help is probably more distracting then anything.
If you asked him a question about pretty much any subject he’d do his best to answer though honestly probably getting it wrong and making you both more confused.
After this happened a few times he was struck by genius.
He’d settle at the table right in front of you holding his own little notebook and request that you teach him.
You were of course quite skeptical, until he explained that the easiest way to learn is by teaching others right?
He had no idea what he was talking about and frankly neither did you, but you were desperate at this point so you might as well.
Explaining things to him was like a giant review, it helped you revise things you kept on forgetting and even helped figure out the errors you had been making in your work.
By the end of the first session McCree had gone brain dead because “Why in god’s name does anyone need to know this-” and no he won't take it’s a requirement to graduate as a good answer.

fandom: harry potter. pairing:  snape x reader undertones.  summary:   a completely self indulgent series where the reader is a slytherin muggle born witch working alongside the teachers at hogwarts.    note: this is going to bounce around a lot when it comes to ships & stuff,  there isn’t going to be a formula to this but will still take situations from the movies.  pov:   she/her pronouns.
there were several emotions that you were feeling right now  :  excitement,  a smudge of regret,  and the most prominent emotion, good old anxiety that wouldn’t budge no matter how much you practically skipped behind dumbledore in an attempt to shake it off :  who of which, at the moment,  was cracking jokes to try and ease your mood by pointing out where everything is and which classrooms were where.   considering you had left the school a mere five years ago,  the directions really weren’t needed,  after all it was hard to forget a place like hogwarts -  you still remember first walking through the doors,  still remember the sensation of the hat on your head as it proudly announced that you were slytherin.  some days were filled with nothing but torment from some pure bloods, but you still met some life long friends who you still spoke to, and the days were held closed to heart no matter what sort of thing you were subjected to.
“ and now,  we slowly inch towards the forbidden door,  one you most certainly aren’t familiar with -  “  you can’t help the small giggle in response, eyes rolling as you found yourself in the same hallway as the staff room.  your arms folding tightly against your chest as nails dug into your arms lightly,  once again an attempt to fight off the ever growing feeling of wanting to puke on the floor. the fact that you haven’t is actually something you’re secretly celebrating.
“ finally,  my long winded plan has worked.  i’m here only for this,  then i’m taking my leave”  dumbledore grinned, placing an arm over your shoulder and offering a comforting squeeze as you got closer towards the room.  damn, your palms were sweating,  not helping but shrinking into his side like a child.  this wasn’t like you,  but it had been a long time  -  even being back in the wizarding world was a strange sensation,  it had been a good couple of years outside of magic bars with childhood friends.
“ relax,  y/n.  it’s wonderful to have you back,  i will admit, i was worried i’d said goodbye to you forever. “ the words warmed your heart,  a shyness emitting from your aura    “  you were my favourite slytherin,  after all.  you still are  - “
“ first,  of cause im your favourite slytherin,  i’m me ”  there’s the y/n everyone has grown to love,  you beamed brightly up at him,  eyes glowing a little   “ second,  i tried to stay away,  but the muggle world just isn’t for me anymore.  i still have friends there that i’ll visit,  but -  i dunno,  this turned into my home at some point  “  a shrug,  walking into the staff room,  tone kinda drawling off as you shrunk a little by dumbledores side.
“ greetings,  everyone ! “  the headmaster announced,  leaving your side to get everyones attention;  leaving you stood there in the middle of the room feeling awkward and extremely exposed, the smile faltering a little but still tugging at the corner of lips,  eyes glancing across the room at the familiar faces,  and some... not so familiar.   there had been a small change in staffing,  you note,  but you relax the minute you see your old head of house,  professor snape;  familiarity washes over you as you offer him a smile,  no matter how grumpy he looks;  you knew he liked you   “  we have a new teaching assistant with us,   now some of you already know young y/n here,  some of you not -  but i know she’s going to make a fine addition to our staffing, her job will be to help whoever needs her at the time,  so i hope you start making dibs while her schedule is free -   “
“ the muggle world got sick of me, so i’m here to make myself you guys’ problem,  so i really wouldn’t dibs if you want to continue liking your jobs “ you finger gun at everyone,  amusement crossing faces across the room.  you hadn’t changed much,  gotten a little older perhaps,  mentality changed to some degree;  but still the awkward,  sharp tongued joker remained.  after poor ice breaker,  everyone practically dragged you from one side of the room to another,  questioning where you had been and what you had done,  you had no idea what you were worried about;  you knew the anxiety would peak back up in the classroom,  that was going to take a long time to get used to,  but when it came to feeling at home among not only your previous teachers,  but people who you will now know on a level to call them friends ?  the road ahead was exciting.
“ y/n,  i didn’t expect to see you back here “  snape finally got hold of you after fifteen minutes or so of bonding with the rest of the staff, a faint blush covers your cheeks as you pushed a strand of hair behind your ear,  rocking slightly on your heels.
“ disappointed ? “ you joked,  head tilting at the tease that came effortlessly,  though at his face remained neutral.  as the quietness that you both shared began to grow longer and truthfully, a little painful,  you continued  “ me neither,  but i finished my muggle studies and i realised out there isn’t where i wanted to be. “
“ be that as it may,  i do recall you saying how teaching is the last thing on your list due to how annoying children were - “
“ you,  of all people are not saying that to me ! “  it’s playful, tone spiking up as your can’t help the laugh that passes your lips.  you see the faint twitch of his lips at your response,  noticing clear as day the glimmer in his eyes  “ you are the last person to comment on the hatred of children,  because i recall roommates coming back from class whining about how their head hurt where you smacked it with the back of a text book !“
“ i always hit with paperbacks,  y/n.  and would i be correct in assuming you liked those people ? “  you knew right off the bat that he was being snarky,  tongue rolling across bottom lip as your eyes rolled once more.
“ no you wouldn’t and that is beside the point here ! “ your foot playfully stomping on the floor at his attitude. meanwhile the other teachers were looking on in amusement,  shaking their heads and smiles spreading on faces at the bubbly change in the atmosphere that you brought. you really were a one in a million, and the teachers were happy to get to know you on a more personal level.
also they noticed how snapes posture faltered into a more relaxed stance,  anything to make him like life a little more and not be such a stick in the mud like he usually is.  everyone was excited for the staffing change,  and dumbledore took all the credit.

Dance With Me Under the Stars
@yeah-im-a-fae-deal-with-it, I hope you enjoy this! I had a lot of fun making it and I hope I did the wishes justice. Happy Holidays!! (Much of the imagery was based on the song Volcano by The Vamps.)

It was mid semester and Virgil had arrived late to class for the first time in his three years of college. He hurried in quietly, taking his usual seat and pulling his books out. Almost shamefully, he grabbed his homework and walked between the desks to put it on the teacher’s.
He must have had the worst luck in the world as, just then, she turned around. “Ah, Mr. Storm. I was wondering when you’d show up.” Her tone was kind, no note of malice anywhere.
Virgil nodded. “I forgot to set my alarm.” His voice was quiet, barely reaching past the professor.
She nodded with a smile that seemed genuine. “Go back to your seat, please. Just as discussed yesterday, you’ll be debating Mr. Croft in a few minutes.”
Virgil trudged back to his seat, slipping past the others to sit in his usual corner. Feeling eyes on him, he looked up to find Logan Croft, a double major in zoology and astronomy who was taking this class for fun, staring at him with an unreadable expression. Virgil ignored him, turning back to his notebook and doodling in the margins as he waited for the professor to finish taking attendance.
He got through half the page before he was being called up to debate, as per usual. He and Croft were only put against each other as examples or if the lecture finished early. This was mainly due to them both being stubborn in their ways and being able to debate things for hours. Thus, they were both called into her office the day before to confirm the topic and style of the debate.
There they stood, on opposite sides of the same plain. It was a familiar position for the pair during their debates. While many would have seen a peaceful place within that plain, maybe even a spot to build something, the two students only saw a battlefield with the fight yet to be fought, yet to be won. Their words danced across the plain, leaving wounds that didn’t mean a thing outside of that moment. A struggle for dominance raged before, as it always did, they came to be equals that saw eye to eye.
Their debate lasted for the first half of class before they came to some sort of agreement on their topic and sat down to listen to the teacher give a lecture on what just happened. After class, Croft caught up with Virgil on his way out. “That was a good debate today, Storm.” He said. The battlefield was back to a plain, nothing special about it.
Virgil looked at him briefly before just shrugging and walking up the stairs. He didn’t bother to look back or wonder why the student who usually avoided him unless it was during these debates was talking to him. He just knew he needed to get to class.
A day later, he was running to dance class and missed a step. Crashing down the stairs, he landed at the bottom in a haze of pain. He tried to move but found that his vision was blurry and his ankle was broken. Someone nearby gave a shout and he heard footsteps on the stairs. A hand landed on his shoulder and he flinched, coming face to face with the person who lived across the hall from him.
“Virgil, what happened?” Emile said, eyes looking concerned.
The dancer didn’t even lie to the psychology major he knew only in passing. “I fell.” He shook his head, trying to get his vision to focus on something, anything. “My ankle hurts.”
Emile nodded and moved to look at it. Gently pressing, he inspected the joint. Virgil hissed when he pressed on it and Emile sat back. “Yep, that’s broken.” Sighing, he moved to help Virgil to his feet, throwing the dancer’s arm over his shoulders. “I’ve got time before my next class so I’ll take you to the nurse before I go tell you’re dance teacher you won’t be able to make it today.”
Virgil shook his head, hobbling along beside him. “No, I’ll tell her later.”
Emile frowned. “You know Professor Kim is not going to be happy about this development. She was counting on you being there through the whole semester.”
Virgil just laughed, shaking his head. “Since when do you talk with her?”
“Since I came to drop off your lunch that day and she was the only one there. We struck up a conversation about you.”
Virgil nodded. “Fair.”
Emile pushed the door open and sat Virgil in the nurse's office before leaving with a wave, tossing an, “I’ll be back in a bit,” over his shoulder. Virgil waited for the nurse to come and diagnose him, soon being rolled out on a gurney on his way to the hospital to get a cast on his broken ankle. He’d also been told that he had a concussion but that wasn’t the main concern.
A few days later, debate class was back in session and Virgil was there in a cast, crutches by his side. Croft came in and eyed the crutches before setting his bag by his usual chair. He didn’t sit down as Virgil thought he would, rather coming over to stand by Virgil’s seat. He nodded his chin at the cast. “What happened there?”
Virgil was taken aback by the care in his voice, a voice that had previously remained so neutral while talking to him that it was borderline monotone. He shrugged as he continued to grab his books out of his bag. “I fell.”
Croft raised his eyebrows, looking about as convinced as he would if Virgil had just told him the sky was magenta. “You fell? Why don’t I buy that, Storm?”
Virgil shook his head. “I don’t know why you wouldn’t believe the truth, Croft.”
He huffed, his eyes melting into the concern that was evident in his voice. Opening his mouth, he seemed to be about to say something but thought better of it, going to sit down instead just as the professor walked in. She paused by his desk. “Professor Kim told me about the ankle. You don’t have to debate for the rest of the semester if you don’t feel up to it.”
Virgil shook his head. “Standing won’t be a problem as long as I have the crutches.”
She nodded. “Still, I’d like to let you rest for a bit.”
Virgil shrugged. “I’m fully capable of standing and debating but I’ll follow your lead on this.” She gave a final nod and moved to stand at the front of the room to begin class.
Thus, six weeks went by. Virgil did essays on dance and movement instead of performing the dances. Professor Kim insisted on recording the lessons so he’l still be able to do them when he’s recovered, which he was immensely grateful for. Debate class went similarly in that he wasn’t called up as often to debate Croft anymore. Instead, he wrote most of his debates as argumentive papers.
That summer, Virgil stayed on campus. He wasn’t taking a summer course, he was simply trying to follow the videos Professor Kim left for him. He lived nearby anyways so it made sense to keep using the studio on campus. That’s how he ended up running into Croft again on the stairs.
“Oh,” the other student said, bag in hand as he was clearly trying to put his books back in it, “I didn’t expect you to be here.”
Virgil smiled, holding up the gym bag that had replaced his book bag. “The studio is allowing me to catch up on my dance lessons over the summer.” He paused. He and Croft had never been too cordial with each other, merely remaining civil. However, toward the end of the semester they'd come to some sort of academic truce. Now, they were just normal strangers, just two students. So, Virgil took a chance. “What about you? Why are you still here?”
Croft finally shoved the last book into his bag, slinging it over his shoulder. “I’m having to retake a class due  to low grades.” He shook his head. “I just can’t grasp the subject.”
“What is it?”
Croft sighed. “Psychology.”
Virgil nodded and, on a whim, gave an offer. “I passed Psych with flying colors if you want me to tutor you?”
That plain, that had once been a battlefield before lying dormant, became a meadow in that one moment. No longer a place for duels or violence, but peace and healing. Their once shaky truce seemed to settle, becoming something more permanent, as Croft smiled. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
They walked side by side as they discussed times and tactics for studying. They concluded that their only overlapping free time was directly after Virgil was finished with dance practice as that was when Croft got out of his classes and clubs but before Virgil had to go to Professor Kim’s office for office hours.
So, the very next day saw Virgil walking out of the shower room, towel he’d been drying his hair with still in hand, to see Croft leaning against the wall in the hall. “I wasn’t expecting you for another fifteen minutes or so.” Virgil said as he approached.
Croft looked up from the book in his hand. He briefly glanced at the page number before snapping it shut and picking up his bag. “Apologies, I like to be early.”
Virgil just waved his hand as they fell in step beside each other. “It’s fine. Next time, you don’t have to wait in the hall if I’m not in the shower, you can just sit in the room. As long as you’re quiet, you’ll be fine.”
Croft nodded. “Noted, thank you.”
They made it to the library and sat down, both pulling out books. When Croft gave Virgil a puzzled look, he laughed a bit. “I’ve brought my notes and blank copies of homework to use as practice problems. First, I want to gauge just how bad off you are.” he set down the cumulative final review. “Fill this out to the best of your ability.” Croft set to work, a serious expression on his face. Virgil didn’t want to twiddle his thumbs while waiting so he pulled out his phone and opened it to a new note, beginning to plan out his evening.
Once that was done, he looked up to see Croft with his tongue sticking out slightly, hair in his eyes, and eyes focused on the page. Strangely, there was something beautiful about the concentrated look on his face. Maybe it was the way the sunlight dramatized it and cast his eyes into shadows, making Virgil want to stare until he could see where the iris ended and the pupil began; maybe it was the way his hair framed his face in a way that made Virgil want to pull out a sketchbook.
Feeling self conscious at that thought, he looked back down at his phone and ignored the other student until he heard a pencil connect with the table. “Alright, Storm, I’m done.”
Virgil nodded and slid the page over to himself, quickly checking it against the answer sheet he’d made up. He gave Croft a grade, circled it, and slid it back. A sharp intake of breath came back as Virgil pulled a clean piece of paper closer to himself and began to write down what needed to be worked on.
“Is it really that bad?” Croft’s voice came from Virgil’s side.
He paused in his writing to look up at his former academic rival. He shrugged. “It could be worse. You don’t seem to be too bad off right now and we’re gonna try to get you to where you need to be as soon as possible.”
Croft nodded and away they went. The next few weeks were spent in a new routine. Croft would wait in the hall if Virgil was in the shower but most times Virgil had lost track of time and gone over, resulting in Croft sitting in the corner reviewing definitions. A few times, one of his clubs wouldn’t meet and he’d get out earlier than normal. Those were the times that Croft would sit in and make sure Virgil wasn’t putting too much strain on his ankle and was properly hydrating. Those were the times they’d strike up a bit of witty banter that reminded them of their debates but on a personal level that the debate class was lacking.
One step at a time, they came closer on that meadow until they were standing side by side, leaning on the other. As they grew closer, the meadow rose as if two tectonic plates were pushing it toward the sky. Over the course of that one season, the meadow had become a mountain of a friendship. Their banter began to spread outside of just those rare moments, becoming a constant part of their meetings, tutor sessions, and walks.
It wasn’t long before the summer semester ended and they had a few weeks of vacation before the next semester. As the days shortened and the leaves turned colors, Virgil almost expected Croft to go on his way. After all, the agreement was done. Virgil had finished learning all the moves he’d needed and Croft had passed his classes with the usual flying colors.
Still, tutor sessions turned into chats over coffee, dancing changed to walks in the park, but their late night talks on the way back to their apartment building stayed the same. Virgil enjoyed that constant, knowing that no matter what else happened that day, he could walk back to the apartment building with Croft. It was one such walk that it struck him. In all their time together, he’d gotten closer to Croft and no longer saw him as the academic rival they’d been at the start of the year. Instead, he saw him as a friend, or even more than that.
Just when Virgil was satisfied and comfortable with the balance they’d created together, fate tossed a spark gently onto the mountain. In that instance, the mountain turned into a volcano. In that one instant of time, Virgil had fallen for Logan Croft and he knew with absolute certainty that he wouldn’t have it any other way. He had no idea how he’d tell him, or even if he would tell him. After all, volcanoes can stay dormant for years before going extinct or erupting. Virgil could just wait and hope it was the former or deal with the latter.
The next few weeks were much the same as that with the exception that Virgil was noticing every little thing that Logan did. He noticed the way he leaned toward Virgil as they talked, the way his focus was entirely on the dancer during conversations. Logan was always walking on Virgil’s left side, the ankle he’d broken mid spring semester that acted up occasionally but especially on stairs. He noticed Logan holding doors for him or smiling at him for no particular reason.
All of this gave Virgil a spark of hope in his chest that had him wondering if Logan liked him back. That spark was almost crushed one afternoon. They had just gotten their coffee and started their usual round about the park when Logan spoke. “I might not be able to do the full rotation today, Storm. I’ve got a date with Roman later.”
Virgil felt like his chest had just been stomped on. “. . . A date?” He didn’t know how he kept his voice steady when his heart was breaking, getting closer and closer to shattering the more he thought about those two words.
Logan tilted his head to the sides. “Maybe ‘date’ is the wrong word for it. It’s more like a meet-up.”
Virgil nodded, pretending he hadn’t been holding his breath through that whole exchange. “Okay, when do you have to leave?”
“About half an hour.” He turned and smiled. “Plenty of time.”
Virgil smiled and walked ahead, turning to face Logan as he walked backwards. Logan shook his head. “That’s not the safest way to travel, you know.”
Virgil just shrugged. “There’s worse ways to travel.” He also got to see the rare grin that spread across the zoology major’s face, not that he would tell said student that.
Their walk in the park ended with them standing at the entrance. “I’ll see you later, Storm.” Logan said by way of parting.
“Wait! Later as in tomorrow or later as in-”
He laughed, something that was even more rare than his grin but something Virgil longed to hear more often. “Later today.” Virgil nodded, walking back to his apartment alone.
On a whim, he grabbed his gym bag, stuffing his dance shoes in it, and went to the studio. He scrolled through his playlist as he entered before just hitting shuffle and letting the music play as he got ready. He waited for the next song and took a second to identify it before throwing his hoodie off and moving to the center of the room.
He went with the music, letting his body flow in whatever way it wanted. Incorporating all the moves he’d learned over the past few months into a cohesive whole that was both as graceful as saplings in the wind but as sharp as the flapping of cloth. He danced to forget his troubles and anxieties, letting them bleed into the movements. A faster song came on and he changed his movements to match, becoming sharper as he let himself get lost in the music, lost to the beat of his feet against the floor, the feeling of the air on his sweat, the feeling of dancing and being free and feeling on top of the world.
When the playlist ended and his muscles were screaming for him to rest, he collapsed onto the floor, panting for breath. When he felt like he could stand, he moved to check his phone clock and found that he’d spent the whole afternoon dancing. Quickly, he showered and made his way back to his apartment. He was still overheated after dancing for a few hours straight so he just had his hoodie slung over his arm, his gym bag over his other shoulder.
He got back to his apartment to see Logan with a fist raised to knock. Smiling, he moved around him and unlocked it. “Come on in.” He dropped his keys in the little bowl on the entrance way table. “I’ve just gotta put this stuff away but it won’t be long.”
Logan smiled, standing comfortably in the entryway. “Take your time, Storm, I’m not going anywhere.”
For a brief moment, Virgil wondered what his first name would sound like in Logan’s voice. He didn’t dwell on it, instead he nodded, ducking into his bedroom to store his bag where it belonged. Taking a second to put on some extra deodorant and move his hair around so it looked semi-styled instead of the mess it was before, he took a deep breath. The scare of losing him that afternoon had made Virgil realize that he needed to act fast before he lost Logan for real.
So, he kept the hoodie across his arm as he went back out and picked up the keys again. “Ready to go?”
Logan nodded. “Quite.”
Virgil held the door open for him, locking it on his way out. They started down the path in relative silence, the only noise being the crunching of gravel beneath their feet and the sounds of life coming from nearby buildings. Virgil was hesitant to break the silence despite the feelings and words bubbling below his surface. Logan also seemed comfortable in the lack of conversation. They made it to a bench that was out of the way and sat on it to stargaze for a bit.
Virgil tilted his head back, resting it on the back of the bench. His eyes scanned the sky, resting on different stars and connecting them into constellations. After another while of silence, Logan shivered beside Virgil and the dancer turned his head, looking at the astronomy major. “Are you cold?” His voice broke the silence like a sheet of ice falling from a slope.
Logan shrugged. “A bit. I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
Virgil hummed and threw his hoodie over the other. “No use in you getting cold when this is right here.”
Logan didn’t react beyond tilting his head down just the slightest bit. He hummed, taking a breath before speaking. “Apologies again for having to end our afternoon walk early.”
Virgil waved his hand. “It’s fine. In fact, it actually gave me time to think.”
Logan looked over at him, eyes inquisitive behind his square black frames. “What about?”
Virgil took a deep steadying breath of the night air before he turned to face Logan just a bit more on the bench. “About you, actually. I realized something when you said you had a date with Roman.”
Logan nodded, his gaze sharpening as his attention seemed to hone in on Virgil. “Okay.”
Virgil fiddled with the rips in his jeans, suddenly anxious. “I realized that if I didn’t act now, someone else might be walking by your side in the park, laughing with a coffee in hand. Someone else might have the door you knock on late at night when you can’t sleep, be the person you debate with over the phone into the early hours of the morning.” He took another deep breath, not looking up at the wonderful human sitting in front of him, the one who deserved the world. “I realized that I love you and can’t stand the thought of another person getting to hold your hand and kiss you goodnight.” He turned his head so he was staring out into the night rather than at Logan. “There, I said it. I love you. I love you so much my chest aches.”
Logan hummed in a way that Virgil couldn’t interpret before there was the rustling of fabric and Logan was kneeling before Virgil, one hand hovering near the dancer’s cheek. “I’m glad you told me as it makes what I’m going to say much easier.” Virgil’s eyes widened slightly, fearing the next thing to come past Logan's lips.
“I love you too. Honestly, I think I’ve loved you since the start of the fall semester. The way you helped me study, putting things into ways I can understand and bending over backwards to do so. The care you take with everything you do, the grace in your every move, the fire and passion you put into your dancing, I love all of you.”
Virgil couldn’t believe what he was hearing but his nerves settled when Logan’s soft expression didn't change, didn’t turn to a sneer, he didn’t laugh or mock Virgil. Elated, he leaned forward but paused before he could connect their lips. Logan smiled at the quiet ask for consent and leaned in with him, closing the distance and bringing him into a kiss. His hovering hand settled on Virgil’s cheek as Virgil’s hand came up to cradle the back of Logan’s neck, neither wanting to let go.
When they pulled apart, they were both smiling. Logan pulled the hoodie tighter around his shoulders before standing, offering a hand to Virgil to stand as well. An idea came to him and Virgil put his hand in his pocket, pulling his phone out to play a few ballads. “Dance with me under the stars?”
Logan grinned, sliding his hands to be around Virgil’s neck. “I’d love nothing more.”
So, the two did just that, dancing the hour away under the midnight stars. In the arms of the one they loved, the same person who had been their greatest enemy at the start of the year, neither could ask for a better way to spend their time.

[Isekai Therapist: Jack, Deuce, we’re sorry for not coming!! I hope you two find some time to study]
Around fifteen minutes before their meeting time on a Thursday, the ones they anticipated to come did not come at all. Well, it is not that surprising, but still, the two of them were still surprised.
Jack knows that Epel will be particularly busy at this time of the month. Deuce knows that Ace does have a habit of canceling at the last minute, but he will not do that if he is the one organizing a study session. Both of them knows that Sebek and Yuu do have their own endeavors to attend to.
It is somehow underwhelming.
“Well…” Deuce sighs, tucking his phone back inside his pocket dejectedly. He and Jack had been standing in front of the library doors for quite some time now and waited for their friends to show up. They agreed to meet there at around 4 PM at least to study. Authentic assessments and written tests are starting to loom over them, and they did not want to fail, so Ace suggested they “combine all their braincells on Thursday 4 PM and teach each other.”
But there is no sign of the redhead nor any of their peers. “I guess we can try and meet up again tomorrow.” Deuce gives Jack an apologetic smile. He was looking forward to studying with the wolf. In their last study session, he had learned so much when Jack was leading. Deuce is also excited to show Jack his own set of organized notes. Unfortunately, your plans do not always go smoothly. That is why there is a next time. Hopefully always a next time.
“You’re leaving?” Jack asks when Deuce is about to take his leave. The Heartslabyul first year looks at him with mild surprise. “Uh…yeah? We can’t really do a “study group” when there’s no group to study with,” he tries to answer lightheartedly but hearing what he said somehow sounded a bit rude. Deuce grimaced. “I—I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way.”
Deuce is not sure what kind of reaction Jack’s natural scowl is suggesting. “It’s fine, you didn’t mean anything wrong,” Jack assures him. “Besides, you’re kinda right. Though, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t cancel our session.”
The suggestion catches his attention and Deuce feels his energy come back with renewed vigor. If Jack wants to continue with their study plan then that means Deuce will be able to learn more from him and he can show Jack what he had learned!
“Even if it’s just the two of us?” Deuce asks, nearly bouncing on his feet despite his cautiousness. Jack gives him a grin—a voice at the back of Deuce’s mind comments how cute it is—and shrugged. “Yeah, why not? It’s still a study session.”
“Then let’s do it!” Deuce pounds his fist into his open palm, a grin stretching across his face as relief washes over him.
Jack feels his ear suddenly tug down when he sees how excited Deuce is that their study session is not canceled. He has to admit, his eagerness is admirable. Deuce takes the chances of being a great honor student wholeheartedly. Sure, he cheated one time, but he was serious when he said he would not do it again. Jack can see what a hard-working person Deuce is. It is what made Jack suggest that they could study together instead. It is not for anything else, come on, he is just helping a friend out.
When Deuce is motivated to study because he is with a trusted friend, Jack is motivated to teach him because he is willing to learn.
They entered the library quietly and behaved, not letting their shoes squeak against the floor unlike a few second years at the end of the room. The two first years greeted the librarian right after Professor Crewel left. Deuce thought it would be rude to interrupt the two adults that were seemingly caught in their own moments.
When Professor Crewel passed by them, he gave them an approving glance at their studying materials. It is not too ambitious to hope for extra credit points because a teacher saw you studying, right?
After signing their names on the logbook, they took a seat on one of the long tables juxtaposing the bookshelves. Deuce still feels a tingle of déjà vu when he visits the library. It feels like long ago when he, Ace, Yuu, and Grim were discussing their plan of fighting Riddle during a magic duel. Now, here he is, sitting beside one of the people he admired to study for a test.
Does Deuce think that Jack does not notice his staring? Jack wants to ignore his friend and continues to lay out their study notes neatly on the table to avoid clutter. Yet, when he is finished, Deuce is still dazing out. Only then did Jack stares back at him did he blinked out of his starry state.
“Was there something on my face?” Jack asks with an arch of his eyebrow. Deuce shakes his head, chuckling awkwardly, and looks away with pink ears. “N-No no! I was just lost in my own thought. I’m sorry for staring,” he apologizes and lays out his own study materials to start. “Do you want to start with Potions first?”
He changed the subject to put behind that brief awkward moment. Jack has no complaints about that and opens his book. “Sure. Ace mentioned you have some notes about the uses of dragon blood?”
“Twelve—I mean yes!” Deuce reaches for his Potions notebook, immediately flipping over the pages where he wrote the information. From the blur of white pages, Jack notices how organized Deuce makes his notes are. When he truly wants to understand something, Deuce does his best to create his own little keywords and highlights that connect to the topic he took note of. Jack’s ears twitch at the arrows and underlines across the page. Deuce sounds to be rambling about the dragon blood, but Jack is more interested in what he wrote in his notebook that he leans forward in interest.
The proximity startles the Heartslabyul student that Jack straightens his posture when Deuce squeaked. They look at each other, equally surprised. “Do…do you want to look at my notes?” Deuce offers, assuming Jack wants to for he leaned his head so forward they nearly bumped temples. Deuce could not help but feel pride warm his chest. Wolves have good eyesight and Jack could have scanned over his notes without leaning over. But the fact that he did lean over just shows that Deuce’s notes had intrigued him!
In contrast to the happy taps of Deuce’s heart, Jack’s is hammering. He could not believe he appeared so entranced by the patterns on Deuce’s notebook. He is about to apologize for his rudeness when he sees the twinkle of happiness in his friend’s eyes. The peacock greens appear brighter and rounder that Jack might as well see imaginary stars pop up beside Deuce’s head.
His adorable expression makes his ear twitch and for some reason his cheeks warm. Deuce does not notice this. He is waiting for Jack’s answer who blinks and looks away. “Uh—yeah, sure.”
The cute smile Deuce wears on his face is very similar to a puppy who just got rewarded. Seeing him get happy over praise and recognition stirs something in Jack’s chest. He does not understand why his tail is idly wagging at seeing Deuce’s smile and eagerness as accepting praise over one’s hard work should be natural. He should not be this adorable.
Wait—adorable? Jack, this is not the time to be dumbstruck! They have a test to study for, Seven’s sake. Jack should get serious. He wants Deuce to pass his test as well, so he should not get distracted and help out his friend to the best of his abilities.
It is challenging when it should not be. Deuce is an easy student to teach. He listens and asks questions for clarification when he does not get it the first time. Jack could say this study session has been going smoothly so far…with a few minor bumps. Metaphorical and literal bumps.
The table is not occupied by anyone else but them. However, they still need to speak in hushed tones to avoid distracting the other visitors in the library. Because of this, their proximity progressively narrows, occasionally brushing elbows or shoulders with each other. Do they shy away from this? No, of course not. Jack and Deuce are buddies. Being close just means they are comfortable with each other. So where did the awkward atmosphere come from?
Deny it as much as he will, but Jack has a crush on Deuce. Their closeness would not have been a problem if the slightest brush would not send sparks up Jack’s nerves. It does not make him jumpy or snappy, but it does make him a little tense that he had to brush it off to Deuce as being cold. Which, to normal people, would be a far-fetched reason, but Deuce seems to take the excuse anyway.
Deuce is equally tensed as Jack is but only a little bit. He is used to the subtle kinship for he sees Jack as a close friend. This just means that they are comfortable with each other as bros. There is no hidden feelings or subtext with their simple study session. In fact, Deuce welcomes the warm feeling over his chest. He feels absolutely elated to be able to learn more with Jack. Perhaps their other friends being unable to come is meant for this moment to happen.
And it seems Jack shares the same thoughts as he does for the realization hit him harder than the level of intimacy they are sharing. The Savanaclaw student stops his teeth from gritting. Those guys…they can be smart when they want to. Jack does not want to assume but he can deliberate that they purposely did not attend so they can set up Deuce and him on an impromptu study date. Well, not really impromptu, but still.
Even without confessing it out loud it seems that they had caught on that he likes Deuce. Jack tries not to be transparent and keeps up a front, but Ace pointed out that his ears and tail had snitched on him. It takes anyone with eyes to know he is into his best friend, as Ace had said.
Had Deuce caught on like he did? Jack does not think so. His friend’s nose is buried deep in his Magic History book—the next subject they are studying on. Jack stops highlighting some important pointers on his own book and stares at how the peacock green color of his eyes seems to flutter as it absorbs the lesson. Jack notices that Deuce’s eyebrows crease slightly when concentrating and he even mutters the words to understand them better. His voice makes Jack’s ears twitch. He is so curious to watch and soon Jack feels the tense air thin out between them.
Deuce’s scent is comforting. When he is idle, like this, Jack could feel the coolness of his scent, almost like mint. It is not a bold scent but rather a soft one. Like timidness waiting to slowly burst.
Like his bubble when those peacock greens swiftly stare back at him.
His tail stops wagging—it was wagging?!!—and his eyes quickly dart back to his own textbook. That was a close one. He cannot let himself get distracted again. Infatuation is alright but Jack doubts it will develop into something like puppy love. Better to focus on the origins of Merlin than the origin of their love story.
Deuce feels himself flinch a little when Jack looked away. His guarded expression makes him feel distant. The library is already quiet yet the silence falling unto them makes it more awkward. Deuce, while hoping his friend does not mind, inches his seat closer to Jack. The proximity from before made him feel comfortable and he wishes to feel that comfort again.
However, Jack flinches from the sudden brush of their arms. Deuce internally panics and stuttered an apology. “S-Sorry—it’s just, well, it’s—” He is cut off from Jack holding onto his arm before he can even scoot away. The warmness of his chest creeps up to his cheeks. Jack’s ears fold briefly before it points up. “You can stay close…so—so we can hear each other.” Jack looks like he is pouting but it might be Deuce’s imagination.
Well, nonetheless, he softly smiles at his friend, thankful that Jack did not push him away.
Jack removes his hand from Deuce’s arm so that they may focus on their lesson thoroughly. There is a little part of them, however, that wishes they may able to hold each other closer during their study session.

tempest [p.parker x o.c.] - eight
notes: ((posting my favorite chapter in honor of spider-man returning to the mcu!!!))
this chapter has been in my head for... like, years. i literally created tempest around the scene with marin and peter, and im so proud that i’ve managed to write almost all of it. this is probably one of my favorite chapters, just because i’ve had it in mind for so long, and you finally get a glimpse into how marin’s powers were exposed.
that being said, this chapter has a very in-depth discussion of a murder-suicide, and domestic abuse, so please please don’t read the following scenes if you’re easily grossed out or triggered.
“but it’s the bad parts i remember the most... and it became her undoing.”
“as my mother tried to soothe him... it took a moment to compose herself.”
if you need a general summary of marin’s background, please read the end notes of the chapter!
****contains: mentions of a murder-suicide, descriptions of domestic abuse, mental illness
pairing: peter parker + fem! o.c.

MARIN DIDN'T SLEEP THAT NIGHT. Between the memories that haunted her, and thoughts of a certain boy that kept her mind spinning, Marin couldn't shut her eyes for more than a couple minutes at a time without either gasping or breaking out in a cold sweat.
She laid in her bed until the sun peeked through her curtains, and well beyond that. She probably should have done something more constructive with her time, like train or read a book or something, but her limbs felt like they were weighted down with bricks. She couldn't muster up the energy to sit up in bed, let alone try using her powers or concentrate on anything other than breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.
Like she did every year on that day, she mourned her parents silently. But this year was different only because thinking about her parents, meant thinking about Peter. He currently hated her because he thought she had killed them. And thinking about Peter made her heart sink and her head pound.
But then the pounding wasn't coming from her head anymore—it was coming from her bedroom door.
Marin didn't respond, but Lucy didn't care, because she entered her room anyway. "Marin, you've got to get up."
Marin just buried her face into her pillow.
"Marin," Lucy pushed, grabbing Marin's comforter and yanking it off of her. "C'mon, this isn't healthy."
"Don't care," Marin muttered into her pillow.
"Well, I do. So get up, you're gonna go train your new powers."
Marin lifted her head up at that. "You know about that?"
"Yeah, Professor Xavier told James and I. But don't change the subject—Jean and Storm are waiting for you downstairs in the simulation room." Lucy pulled at her arm now, but Marin obliged into a sitting position. She noticed James lingering in the doorway.
"All right, give me time to shower, at least?"
Lucy narrowed her eyes. "Ten minutes, Frost—I don't want any dilly-dallying in there, because I know you would if I let you."
"Fine." Marin rolled her eyes. "Be ready in fifteen."
+++
It was more like twenty, but Lucy should've only been glad that it wasn't at least thirty-five, like her normal showers.
Sure enough, Storm and Jean really were waiting for her, and they'd set the room up with plenty of rubber mats. Marin eyed the otherwise-empty room warily.
Jean chuckled. "This is just to help you practice your control, Marin. No simulations, yet, so there's nothing to be nervous about."
"We're rooting for you, Marin," Lucy gave her a thumbs-up, and backed out of the room with James at her side.
Marin nodded, shaking the nerves buzzing in her hands. Now that she was out of bed and her mind was distracted, it was easy to put her worries to the side. She signaled that she was ready to the two older mutants.
"Okay, Marin. You've done this before, except this time, you're older—you're in control." Storm exposited. "Close your eyes. Picture the energy flowing in you, swimming in your veins, crawling through the layers of your skin. Just observe it for now—simply acknowledge its presence as a part of you."
Marin concentrated. This lesson was similar to the training she'd gone through with her hydrokinetic powers, but this time, she knew that the power was coming from inside her, which made it more difficult to locate and identify. After a moment of silence, Marin huffed. "I don't feel anything."
"That's okay, just focus, Marin." Jean spoke. "It's there, waiting for you to find it. Don't try so hard, let it come to you naturally."
"The energy fluctuates with your emotions—when you become angry, or upset, it reacts accordingly." Said Storm. "But now, you are in control. The purpose of letting it come to you when you are calm is so that you refuse to let the energy control you."
Marin nodded, relaxing her clenched fists, not remembering when she'd done so. She breathed deeply, searching her body from within.
Somewhere under her skin, she felt a nudge. After the nudge, came a push, and then a rush of emotion. I am in control, she reminded herself. Marin stroked the wave of energy rising inside her with her mind, causing it to hum pleasantly in response. The hum began to vibrate, starting at the center of her chest and radiating outward, washing tingles throughout her entire body. She felt the hair on her arms rise, and the weight of her hair resting on her shoulders lift. Her entire body felt like a single, continuous flow of energy.
Marin opened her eyes, finding the room bathed in a warm blue light. Glancing down at herself, she realized that it was her; the bright aquamarine blue light surrounded her, seeping through the pores of her skin—reminding her of pressing a flashlight against her finger, the light passing through her skin. Except for this light, she could feel as it ignited every nerve ending in her body—glowing from every atom within her.
She jerked when she noticed that she was also hovering a couple feet off the ground, her hair floating around her hair like she was underwater. Panicking, she flailed her arms and unintentionally shot a blast of energy into the wall, blowing a sizeable dent into the cement.
Marin fell, losing her balance and landing on her back. Groaning, she picked herself up. "Sorry," she said sheepishly to her mentors, who looked between each other, and Marin assumed Jean was making a comment to Storm with her telepathy powers. "Was that okay?"
Storm looked at her and smiled reassuringly. "It was great, Marin. You handled it well, especially for using it for the first time in years."
"So... do you think I'm dangerous, then?" Marin grimaced.
"Not at all, Marin." Jean smiled, cupping Marin's cheeks in a motherly fashion. "You just need to train, to practice your control, that's all."
"Okay," Marin nodded, stepping back, and bracing herself. "Let's train, then."
+++
It had taken Marin three years to learn how to freeze and boil water instantaneously, and six years to learn how to heal others with water. But by the time the sun had set that day, Marin had managed to control her powers enough to manipulate the energy around her to fly.
Shooting beams of energy was still tricky and not entirely accurate, but at least she was no longer shooting off blasts by accident. She could summon the energy within seconds instead of minutes, and she was getting the hang of releasing her powers without falling down (even if she landed wobbly nearly every time). By bedtime, she was floating around the mansion with relative ease—the stress of the day's memories never passing her mind when she glided throughout the halls.
"Marin, please get down from the ceiling," Charles called up to her from his wheelchair, his neck craning to address the mutant walking upside down on the ceiling.
"All right," Marin sighed, descending and releasing the energy, her skin returning to its normal, freckled beige.
"Please get some rest tonight, okay?"
Marin smiled. "I will, Professor."
And she had planned on keeping her word, she really did try. But the second she crawled into bed, Marin was restless with the onslaught of unwelcome thoughts. She'd managed to go the entire day without dwelling on her parents' deaths or let herself be consumed by worries about Peter. But now, with her body finally still and her mind no longer distracted, she couldn't help but torture herself with the impulsive desire to show off her new powers to her friend.
Marin sighed after a few minutes of restless silence, giving up on sleep. She got up, and tiptoed to Lucy's bedroom, knocking softly on the door. It was still fairly early in the evening, but she hoped that Lucy hadn't planned on getting an early night's sleep.
Sure enough, a voice said from within, "Come in," and Marin stepped through.
"Hey," Marin whispered, even though Lucy and James were both wide awake and sitting on opposite ends of the bed, seemingly in the middle of a card game. "Can I talk to you guys for a bit?"
"Sure, what's up?" Lucy obliged, scooping the cards away to make room for Marin to sit on the bed. "Is it about the new powers?"
"Kinda." Marin exhaled softly. "It's also about... Spider-Man."
"What about him?"
"I miss him." Marin admitted. "Like, way more than I expected. As I steadily gained control over my powers today, all I wanted to do was go and show him." She wrung her hands together. "But then I remembered that he hates me for things that aren't true, and I can't stop thinking about the horrified look in his eyes when Mr. Stark told him that I killed my parents—and how I never got to explain myself, explain why I lied to him about being a mutant, and I just know that I can't live with that kind of guilt."
Lucy and James studied her as she continued her speech. "I've been alone my whole life. Everyone has always hated me or feared me for horrific actions they believed I committed, and I've lived with that isolation for the nine years I've lived here because honestly, I didn't really know anything else. But then I met him, and he showed me a kindness that I'd never experienced before. I was fine with being lonely until the night I ran away when I followed him through his life—I made unexpected friends, fought my first supervillain, and even met an Avenger. It was like I was seeing a glimpse of the life I feel like I was always meant to have. And now... now, I don't know what to do. Because I know I have to keep training to control these new powers, but I can't help but yearn for that other life. I know I should stay here and train, but my life feels like it was left behind in Queens, and my soul is being split in half."
Marin sniffled wetly as she wiped at her damp cheeks. "I need to tell him the truth. But I don't know ho, because he's there, and I'm here."
Neither of them responded, only looking between each other, probably having a conversation in their minds. Eventually, the nodded, and both looked to Marin.
"We've got an idea."
+++
"Forest Hills—are you sure?" Lucy clarified once more.
"Yes, Lucy," Marin confirmed. "Land in Forest Park like last time, I can make my way from there."
"Won't that take a while?" James asked from his co-pilot's seat.
"I can fly now, remember?"
"Oh, right."
The jet was considerably fast; they reached Forest Park just shy of ten o’clock at night. As Marin was unbuckling herself from the passenger seat, Lucy pivoted in the pilot's chair. "And you're sure you don't need us to go with you?"
Marin shook her head. "No. This is something I need to do alone."
And as Marin took to the skies, she made sure to keep away from open streets, lest someone see her vibrant blue-glowing body flying through the air.
After only a couple minutes of navigating the streets of Forest Hills, Marin located Peter's apartment complex. She floated right up to the window, knocking into it slightly with her shoulder as she came to a jerky halt. She noticed Peter jump inside his room where he was standing at his desk, and then peer suspiciously out the window.
He walked toward her, and even though she could see he wasn't pleased to see her, he still pushed up the pane of glass, sticking his head out and glaring up at her. Marin moved back a little, indicating that she wasn't going to just barge right in. "What, so you can fly now?" He snarled at her. "Is that another secret you kept from me?"
Marin sighed, and shook her head at him. "Can I come in? I need to tell you a few things."
Peter stared at her, his expression annoyed yet mildly interested—but mostly just relenting. He exhaled after a few heartbeats and looked back at his closed door. "Not in here, I don't want to wake May up. Go to the roof," Marin nodded, backing up even further so Peter could climb out of the window after her. He clung to the wall, crawling up the side of the building. It was weird to see him do it without the suit, but Marin followed him anyway.
Her landing was unstable and she would've tripped against the graveled roof, but Peter's reflexes acted faster than he could remember his disdain for her. "Thanks," she gave him a grateful look as he steadied her, but Peter yanked his hands back and averted her gaze.
He stepped around her, going to sit on the edge of the roof with his feet dangling over the side. Marin, despite vertigo rolling around in her stomach from the heights, took the spot next to him. They sat in silence for a moment.
Just as Marin opened her mouth, Peter said suddenly, "Why didn't you tell me you're a mutant?" His voice was strained. He was wearing a Midtown sweatshirt, she noticed, as he tugged the sleeves over his hands. It was a nervous tick that Marin recognized from her own habits.
"I... it's kind of a long story." Marin winced, looking him in the eyes.
"Does it have to do with... y'know, your parents?" He cringed, and Marin's stomach twisted anxiously. She was really going to do this, wasn't she?
"Yes." She admitted, eyes shifting down at her hands, which gripped her knees so tightly her knuckles were white. "I... I'm going to tell you everything, Peter. Some of what Mr. Stark said was true, but the truth... the whole truth is complicated and messy, and I've... I've never told anyone else about what happened, so please don't—don't interrupt me until I'm done, because I don't know what would happen if I stopped."
Peter nodded skeptically, and Marin lifted her head up.
"So, I'll start at the beginning, I guess." Marin took a deep breath and began.
"I was born on February third of 2001 to my parents, Jamie and Kelly Frost. My dad... he grew up in an orphanage until he was kicked out when he was eleven because they thought he had schizophrenia. But the voices in his head were real, he just didn't know that he was really a mutant—a telepath, able to hear the minds of those around him.
"They had me really young, my parents. And my dad could never keep a job for more than a couple weeks, so it was up to my mom to provide for the family. But as a teacher in the city, she didn't earn much. We were happy, though, as far as I can remember.
"Truth be told, I don't really remember much, though. I remember some of the good bits, like my parents dancing with me to the music on the radio, or how my mother used to sing lullabies to get me to sleep."
Marin's breath grew shaky as she approached the worst parts of her story.
"But it's the bad parts that I remember the most. My father didn't know he was a mutant, and after a decade of hearing voices in his head, he was growing extremely paranoid. I remember he was always talking to himself, hitting and slamming things against any surface he could find. My mom would find him in these massive fits, and sometimes things got so bad that he would throw my mother around the room, or start beating her. My mom, though, she'd just... take it. She was so kind-hearted, so loving, and she'd never defended herself. She loved my father too much to stand up to him, and it became her undoing."
Marin clenched her eyes shut, the blood in her ears drowning out the noises of the city.
"It was all building to one final explosion. It was nine years ago, as of yesterday. I was six. I'd just come home from my first day of first grade, and I remember being really happy and excited to start the new school year. But I never made it to the second day.
"My dad was in the worst fit I'd ever seen him in. He was shouting into thin air, clutching his head so hard he'd ripped out chunks of his hair. My mom was trying to help him out of it, so she sent me to my room so I didn't have to watch. Normally, I'd obey her, locking myself in my room and burying my head under a pillow to muffle the screams. But I was feeling brave, and too concerned to leave. So instead, I followed them into the bathroom, where my father was thrashing in a drawn bath, still fully clothed. He was rocking back and forth, murmuring to himself angrily.
"As my mother tried to soothe him, he looked up at her—and for a brief moment, I saw his eyes clear. But the next second it was gone, and..." Marin inhaled a shaking breath, trembling violently as she gripped the concrete ledge of the complex. "And almost instantly, he had his hands wrapped around my mother's neck and he was throwing her into the bathtub, holding her under the water even as she struggled against him. It was the only time I'd ever seen her fight back. But it ultimately didn't matter. I watched as the water eventually went still, my mother's limbs went limp, and my father stumbled back as if he couldn't believe what he'd just done.
"He screamed out, telling the voices in his head to shut up, and grabbed the dryer left out by the sink. Somehow, he'd managed not to see me until he was clutching the plugged-in hairdryer in one hand, halfway into the bath. Then his eyes found mine, and he said 'they told me to do it'. He stepped into the water, and electrocuted himself."
It took a moment to compose herself. Marin was thankful that Peter had stayed silent through her story, but she wasn't finished. "I want to clarify something about mutants because I don't know how in-depth public schools teach about us."
She risked a glance at Peter, and was surprised to find tears trailing down his cheeks. He wiped them away, nodding.
"Mutants are born mutants—they already have the mutated gene in their DNA. It's a recessive, hereditary gene, so it's passed on through generations. But for the first several years of our lives, it lies dormant, waiting for something to trigger it. They're usually exposed when a mutant witnesses a traumatic event, or experiences a really powerful emotion. I think it has something to do with an enhanced sense of fight or flight, or for protection purposes or something. It's often destructive, and sometimes fatal, but rarely ever done on purpose.
"And, seeing... what had happened obviously triggered my mutant gene. You know that I can control water, so you can see how that kind of uncontrolled outburst can result in exploding all the pipelines in the building. But, as it turns out, I have a second, hidden power. Professor Xavier calls it Cosmic Energy manipulation, and it basically means that I can manipulate the energy that's normally found in, like, stars and stuff. It's hard to explain without detailing every nuance of astral and quantum physics. The only difference is, is that the energy is found inside me, and I don't need to draw on the energy from other sources like I do for my hydrokinetic powers. I can manipulate the energy to do pretty much anything I want it to do, hence, the flying.
"Anyway, my powers were unleashed to the fullest extent that night. I don't have any memory of what happened in the accident following my father's death—just waking up, surrounded by the decimated remains of my house. I was lucky that no one else was injured, even if the explosion did destroy the abandoned motel my parents had squatted in. When the emergency responders showed up, the entire building was in tatters, my parents' bodies were nothing but ashes, and I was untouched by it all. They didn't know what to think, so they called Charles Xavier.
"After he brought me to the Institute, he tried to figure out what exactly had happened. Charles is telepathic and extremely powerful, but even he couldn't access any memories I'd had, and therefore couldn't determine that my parents' deaths were a result of a murder-suicide, and not of my doing. So he assumed that it was my fault, and because I was uncooperative and traumatized, my Cosmic powers were growing increasingly unstable and destructive. He had no other reason to doubt my role in their deaths, and I gave him nothing to dissuade his opinion."
"I didn't notice that everyone was avoiding me. I didn't realize the looks they were giving me were ones of terror." Marin laughed dryly. "I didn't learn of the rumors until a new kid came to live at the school a few months after I did, and one of the older mutants stopped them just as they were walking up to me. The older student hissed at them, 'Don't go near her, she's dangerous. She'll kill you just like she killed her parents.' And of course, I retaliated, grew angry, and accidentally shot a blast of energy into the kid's leg, breaking it. Charles was freaked out, naturally, and he put a block on my mind so I wouldn't remember ever using my energy manipulation powers. It was supposed to keep everyone safe, but I felt the loss of those powers unconsciously, and I compensated in my hydrokinesis training.
"I spent most of my time training. I mastered most forms of martial arts by the time I was ten, and I could get a bullseye with every type of weapon blindfolded when I was twelve. I studied physics, and literature, and mechanical engineering until I could take any device apart and put it back together again. I was... I was missing something, and I thought that if I could fill it with knowledge and training, that I'd be okay again."
Marin shook her head. "But nothing motivated me more than the desire to help people. Every time I learned a new ability or mastered a new interest, all I wanted to do was show my mom. Then I'd remember the way she fought back, only to die in the end because no one was there to save her, and I'd burn with rage and helplessness. If only I'd had my powers, I could've saved her. I told myself that I wouldn't waste my powers—I'd never have to..."
Marin tilted her head to the sky, letting the wind sting her eyes until they burned and watered. "It's... I mean, have you ever had to watch as someone you loved so desperately, died right in front of your eyes while you watched, powerless to save them? I am haunted by that memory, that feeling of helplessness, and I fear that it will be my downfall, much like my mother's love for my father was hers."
"I have," Peter croaked quietly. Marin turned her head to look at him. There was so much pain in his eyes that it pushed the air out of her chest and clasped her heart in a sharp vice. "My uncle Ben—he was shot, right in front of me. And I was too late to stop the robber that killed him. I'd had my powers for a month, and hadn't used them for anything but selfish reasons. I'd had my powers, but didn't use them for anything good." It was his turn to draw in a shuddering breath. Marin scooted closer to him, brushing her shoulder against his, but otherwise not touching him. "He's why I do it. Why I became Spider-Man, and why I fight so hard to continue fighting bad guys, despite everything—my age, my schoolwork, May, everything. He told me once, 'with great power, comes great responsibility', and after he died, I felt like I was somehow letting him down if I didn't use them to help save those who can't save themselves."
"I know," Marin said. It seemed like it was all she could say. After a moment of silence, she confessed, "I hated being an X-Man, you know. I joined when I was thirteen after we watched the Avengers fight off an alien army on TV. I hated how we just sat there, watching as the world was in mortal danger, and we did nothing to help them. I wanted to save people, and I thought that I could do that as an X-Man. But I was wrong. All we ever did on missions was recruit new mutants and occasionally intercept drug trafficking rings. It was never enough for me. And so I acted out a lot, constantly got myself into trouble because I didn't like obeying orders and staying in line like an obedient little soldier." Marin pulled a face. "I played fast and loose with what lines I could cross as an X-Man, and I didn't care about the consequences. That's why I ran away that night, at the bank. The others heard those women screaming and they didn't care—they'd rather leave them to be killed so they could stick to the stupid orders Charles gave them. I wasn't going to be one of them, anymore.
"They don't care, mutants. All they care about is saving their own kind. Keeping us safe and hidden from the outside world, lest they try to hurt us. They don't care if humans are in danger; unless it's a threat to mutants, they refuse to help save anyone." Marin looked Peter in the eyes. "That's why I didn't tell you what I am. I didn't want to be a mutant if it meant that I'd have to pretend like I didn't care."
Marin sighed softly. "When I got kicked off the team, though, it hurt me more than I'd care to admit. I was a part of something, even if I didn't agree with their motivations. It was the only chance I had at being a hero, and I was too careless and lost it."
Peter ruminated in silence after Marin finished her tirade. The only sounds were the occasional honking of a car, the wind rustling branches and leaves, and their collective breathing.
"When I lost the suit, I felt like I lost a part of myself." He eventually said, his voice steady but low. "That's where we're different—you don't need to be an X-Man to be a hero, but I’m not Spider-Man without that suit. All I am is a stupid teenager who can climb walls and flip around. I’m no one if I’m not Spider-Man.”
Marin scoffed indignantly. "You're not no one—you're Peter Parker." She stared him down, pressing her sincerity into her gaze. "Spider-Man is not a suit. He's a person, and most importantly, he is you. You don't need that suit to be a hero, Pete. I should know, I knew you before you even had it."
Peter's eyes widened, gazing at her softly.
Before he could even think to object, Marin continued to confess, "You're why I left, you know. That night I ran away from the Institute." His expression changed, his eyes growing curious. "There's a reason why I came to you." She nudged his shoulder playfully.
"Why?" Peter whispered; his voice carried off slightly by the wind.
"Because I wanted to be like you." She tilted her head. "You stood down those men at gunpoint, wearing those ridiculous pajamas—"
"—they're not pajamas—"
"—and still saved those women." She grinned, purposely ignoring his protest. "Yeah, I helped some, but you went in there without any ulterior motive, and put your life on the line because you had to. I just went because I had a chip on my shoulder and a point to prove. But you... you going in there alone was both the bravest and stupidest thing I've ever seen someone do."
Peter chuckled. Marin pointed into his chest. "That was Spider-Man. He didn't need that fancy piece of fabric to be a hero, and you know why? Because it's you who's the hero, Peter. Not only did you save those women and countless others, you also gave me a place to sleep when I needed it the most. You gave me hope, and the courage to fight for myself. You gave me a sense of belonging that I've never found anywhere else." Marin smiled sadly. "Don't you see? You don't need to be super to be a hero. You're super because you are a hero. And I know for a fact that your uncle would be proud of you—with or without your powers, no matter what suit you wear."
Peter choked on a sob, curling into himself. Marin wrapped her arms around his trembling body, going to rub his back gently; but at her touch, he twisted, tucking into her chest. Moving her hand from his back to his neck, she ran tender fingers through his hair, soothing him with hushed sounds and words of comfort. It amazed her how quickly this turned from an exposition to an exchanging of bared souls.
They stayed like that until Peter finished crying, and his breath evened out. He nuzzled his face into her shoulder with a deep inhale, and spoke into her jacket, "Your mother would be proud of you, too, Marin."
Marin squeezed him tighter, feeling a fresh tear slide down her cheek. "We do it for them, Peter Parker, and we do it for ourselves."
endnotes:
Marin’s father had no idea he was a mutant, and everyone thought that his telepathic powers were actually symptoms of schizophrenia. Because he wasn’t trained on how to control his powers and was unstable, he often abused Marin’s mother. It all culminated to one night where he drowned Marin’s mother in the bathtub and then electrocuted himself.

— treasure a as hogwart students
request: “Hogwarts house for treasure A plsss” a/n: a big thank you to @outofexits and @yedarnit for helping me out with this! ♡ i don’t know much about harry potter, so i apologize in advance for any mistakes you all find in this. if you would like more description as to why the boys are in a particular house or why i chose their patronus then don’t be afraid to send me an ask about it!
Tumblr media
➯  lee byounggon
gryffindor
it took about thirty seconds for the sorting hat to decide that he ultimately belongs there
you want to go on adventure? byounggon is there!
he’s not afraid of anything and he will be there for anyone who needs to be protected
half blood
patronus ✧ dragon
keeper of his quidditch team
seunghun was the one who forced him to try out for the quidditch team even though they’re in different houses
“why do you want me to join? we’re in different houses, so we won’t even be together.” byounggon asked with a confused look upon his face
“because i want to see you lose and see me win!” seunghun shouted before he laughed and playfully put byounggon into a headlock
all jokes aside, but seunghun truly thought byounggon would be a good player
and not only that, but byounggon didn’t really seem to have a hobby until he joined the team (all thanks to seunghun who also noticed this)
he says that he hates studying, but he’s still one of the top students who excels the most in his history of magic class
in his third year, firstyear!junkyu stopped byounggon and asked him if he could help him find his classes
byounggon ended up guiding him to every class and even continued to be a little mentor for junkyu as he helped him settle down into the school
and that’s how they became friends
he understands the pain of being a first year and he also wanted to make sure junkyu was on the right path
byounggon used to be a prefect, but gave up his role because a majority of people found him frightening
he just wants to make friends uwu and he wanted to focus more on quidditch
now, he bribes prefects from taking points away from him whenever he causes a little hassle
“come on, yoonbin! i’ve been in your shoe before, so let me off this one time.”
“i can’t do that.”
“yes, you can. just pretend you didn’t see me. how about i do your homework for the next week? that’s a good exchange, right?”
Tumblr media
➯  kim seunghun
hufflepuff
the sorting hat barely touched his head before it screamed out “hufflepuff!”
“wow, even i knew that.” seunghun muttered to himself before he ran off to the table filled with loving people who were ready to attack him with warm welcomes
seunghun is loyal to all of his friends and it’s super easy for him to detect someone who is not loyal to him
half blood
patronus ✧ brown bear
captain of his quidditch team + chaser
even though he’s such a sweet person, he values handwork and will be on anyone’s case if they’re not giving it their all (which is why he’s such a great captain)
one game, against the ravenclaw team, lasted for five days, but seunghun and the other captain decided to call it a tie because they both had a astronomy test to study for
herbology is his favorite class
everyone knows him
he’s popular in literally all of the houses and other student’s just can’t find themselves to hate him when he’s such a friendly person
sometimes, he bakes cookies for everyone when he gets bored
during one rough night, hyunsuk couldn’t stop crying over his family’s bigoted ways. seunghun was the first one to find him and made sure to stay by his side as he reassured him that nothing is his fault and that he can start to make a change in his heritage line
when he bleached his hair blonde, in honor of his house, byounggon couldn’t stop making fun of him because he looked like a lemon in his perspective
Tumblr media
➯  choi hyunsuk
ravenclaw
he comes from a family line of ravenclaws
the truth is, he was in a hatstall between hufflepuff and ravenclaw
at first, he was conflicted because he didn’t know which one his heart truly wanted to be at
in the end, he chose ravenclaw to continue on his family tradition (his family also expected him to join ravenclaw, so if he was to choose hufflepuff, then there would be War In Their Household)
just like his family, hyunsuk is quite intelligent and puts a lot of thought into his choices
pure blood
patronus ✧ falcon
he’s pretty amazing at every subject, but he still remains to be horrible at flying
he could never get used to being off the ground, so he tries to stay away from flying as much as he can (unless he’s forced to then SIGHS)
one of his favorite class is charms
it’s his favorite because he personally likes giving objects unexpected properties and he generally likes making everything to look aesthetically pleasing
ravenclaw prefect
he’s such a nice prefect!!! he gives people warnings before taking away their points
he believes taking away points won’t teach anyone a lesson and everyone should learn how to better themselves one little step at a time
“jihoon, this is my warning to you.”
“this is already my 7th warning and i’ve never lost a point yet.”
“do you want to lose one now?”
“NOPE IM GOOD THANKS BYEEEEEEE”
Tumblr media
➯  kim junkyu
gryffindor
some students have told junkyu that they would’ve guessed he would be a hufflepuff
since he comes off as someone who’s kind and patient
but that doesn’t take away the fact that he has a competitive nature, is determined, and is radiating with a new found confidence and bravery
half blood
patronus ✧ newfoundland dog
tends to gossip with his house ghost, “nearly headless nick”
he’s one of the quidditch commentator
screams a lot, but when he does so, people still love him as the commentator because it brings light comedy into the serious game
when he first came into the school, he lacked so much confidence
but as he grew as a person, his confidence level rose to the sky and he doesn’t seem to be the same scaredycat!junkyu he was in his first year
if you were to ask junkyu what his favorite subject was, then he’d just say “hmm, probably lunch.”
many students swoon over him because of his good looks
so around once a week, he receives chocolates from a variety of different students, but the chocolates usually contain a type of love potion
his go-to adventure partner is byounggon, since they’re both not afraid of anything
one time he missed his curfew and “the fat lady” portrait lied to him that the password changed (when it really didn’t), so seunghun took him in and let him sleep in his dorm for the night
Tumblr media
➯  bang yedam
slytherin
the hatstall took around 4-5 minutes as the hat couldn’t decide between slytherin or hufflepuff
he has characteristics that perfectly fit both, but he has more stronger traits that fits with the slytherins as he’s a born-leader and ambitious
muggle born
patronus ✧ black swan
on his first day, he called the enchanted portraits “gifs” and everyone turned their heads to look at him as they questioned “wait what did you just say???”
his first friend was doyoung ( ु•⌄• )◞◟( •⌄• ू )
doyoung helped yedam come out of his comfort zone as he introduced him to people in and outside of their house
the lowest grade he has ever received was exceed expectations
since yedam can be a total softie, a group of traditional pure-bloods used to poke fun at him and call him a “mudblood”
although, they stopped bullying him once they found out that yedam is literally smarter than all of them combined and also because of the pranks he would do to get them back
in the beginning, he was so eager to learn new spells just to get back at those bullies!
now, he’s eager to learn so he can grow as a person and as a wizard
was a candidate to become a prefect, but they took him off the list once they saw all the mischievous events he was the mastermind behind
since he’s a muggle-born, he would get so surprised when his fellow friends and classmates don’t understand his jokes
“road work ahead? well, yeah, i sure hope it does.”
“what are you saying?”
“you know- that vine video.”
“vine?”
“waiT YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT VINE IS???”
Tumblr media
➯  kim doyoung
slytherin
he was housed after fifteen seconds after the hat was placed on his head
some students are 100% sure the sorting hat placed him in the wrong house
but how could the sorting hat be wrong when doyoung is just as ambitious as the others and will put in all of the effort he has to achieve what he desires for
pure blood
patronus ✧ aardvark
similar to seunghun, he’s friends with everyone and he even tries him best to befriend everyone, not caring what house they belong in
but he still has a tight circle of friends that he prioritizes first
he’s probably the nicest boy in his house and he pretends he doesn’t hear other slytherins swearing out loud in the common room
speaking of the common room, he gets super!!!! excited!!! when he spots a creature by the lake whenever he’s in there
he seems to always wear his uniform in a careless manner and if you ask him why it’s because “it’s fashion and properly wearing my uniform isn’t underneath my rules.”
he’ll follow the rules, like the good boy he is, but doesn’t really mind if he breaks them
if anything, he can’t break his OWN rules he has made for himself
yedam’s partner in crime
got a countless amount of detentions because he’s yedam’s apprentice when he pulls pranks
during his second year, students finally accepted doyoung being a slytherin when they found him arguing with dohwan in the middle of their potion class

passively tagged by @andavs, who made a general invitation at the end of her post.  this seemed like a nice way to channel my oversharing urges tonight!
Rules: answer 15 questions and tag 15 people
1. Are you named after anyone?
Not even a little.  My parents took some general inspiration, inasmuch as they heard my name somewhere and thought “oh that sounds neat,” but there was no emotional weight behind that decision.
2. When was the last time you cried?
A few months ago when the Kavanaugh hearings were taking place, I got into a huge knock-down-drag-out fight with some people I work with in a group chat about believing women and accusations. It was me alone against three or four straight white men that I work with.  I spent maybe an hour and a half ranting and frantically looking up sources to back up what I knew was right but couldn't clearly articulate, which is frustrating as hell. One of the other women in the group chat dmed me separately to say how much she appreciated what I was doing because she thought I was right but didn’t feel comfortable/confident enough to speak up.  The second it died down I bawled like a baby for about half and hour because that shit is fucking stressful and anxiety inducing and not fun!
3. Do you have kids?
Nope.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
I am a card carrying member of the National Sarcasm Society (like we need your support).  It’s actually in my username ;)
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Probably their facial expressions/body language.  Not that I can necessarily interpret it correctly, just that I’m super worried about how people around me feel.
6. What’s your eye color?
Blue or green, depending on who you ask, how close they’re standing to me, and whether or not I’ve recently taken a shower, apparently.
7. Scary movie or happy ending?
Oh happy ending for sure.
8. Any special talents?
I can make lots of really weird clicking noises with some of my joints!
9. Where were you born?
Oak Park, Illinois, though we didn't stay there for very long after that.
10. What are your hobbies?
uh, reading, writing, biking, baking, and when I have the time+money for its knitting.
11. Do you have pets?
I do not, unfortunately. I have some vague but incredibly uncomfortable allergies to animal fur dandruff.  there was a terrible incident involving some bunnies when I was maybe seven years old.
12. What sport do you play/have you played?
it’s a no from me, dog.
13. How tall are you?
I am 5′9′’ ish, but if anyone asks I am definitely taller than my brother, no matter what he says or what you can see when we’re standing right next to one another.
14. Favorite subject at school?
I'm gonna cheat and use the super broad term of social studies, because the answer is a mix of politics and history. people as a whole have done some awesomely and terribly hilarious shit, man, like that Prussian leader who had a tall people fetish and proceeded to conscript super tall people into his personal guard.
15. Dream job?
Probably working at NPR. I’ve never liked showing my face publicly, but I’ve never had the same problem with my voice; also sound editing is legit super fun. it’s a nice and contained way to work out my perfectionist tendencies. (in my secret young heart of hearts, tho, I kinda still want to be a librarian; if only to make sure every little girl gets the same chance to escape through books that I did).
now for the fun part; inflicting this on other people and learning more about them! god, do I even know fifteen people? lets see: @headacheorheartache @aniseandspearmint @padmerrie @alderaani-princess @theunofficiallibrarian @sagetsukimura @tigriswolf @ygrittebardots @someone-hug-obiwan @im-funny-just-give-it-time @nephelebutler @gothrocks44 @feet-that-were-blue-and-ivory @theredshirtsarecoming @anyone else who would like to!

September 19, 2021
Y’all,,,,,,, the way I can tell that ain’t nobody up in my anth class does the readings
Like yeah for stem classes you generally don’t have to unless you need extra help, but in social sciences the readings can, as I’ve learned (specifically in the two other social anthropology classes I took before this one), provide context for lectures and it’s so incredibly obvious when the prof/ta asks a question that relates to something that was defined in a specific way in an article and someone approaches the answer obviously coming at it with the mindset of a colloquial, common definition that doesn’t apply to this discipline.
I mean I’m not answering questions audibly but I’m also not equating modern-day wiccanism and witchcraft with the witchcraft as described in this one ethnography we had to read which is arguably worse because those people are quite literally wasting my time in class.  Like this class is not hard.  It simply is not.
Anyway like I recognize that this is an annoying position to take but it’s certainly a valid one imo.  Perhaps one of the most valid positions on this topic.  Like bro I’m taking seventeen credits including two labs (speaking of which,,,,, can y’all believe I was gonna subject myself to three literal labs last fall??? Like I can barely handle two and I was gonna take three??  I mean covid sucks sure but having 2/3 of my labs as asynch that semester was truly a blessing (also I miss fifteen credit semesters (I think next semester might be my first one without a lab ahhhhh!!!))), doing research, reading a book for fun, and I still have time to at LEAST skim the readings.
Also like,,, nobody reads syllabi?  There are so many questions that people ask that come right from the syllabus and again, I feel like my time is being wasted in class.  “Can she post the readings before the week starts” well i mean buddy my friend my pal, if you read the syllabus or went exploring the class website you might know that all the readings for the whole semester are in the files page my guy.  God I’m insufferable, I know it, I do, but I can’t help it, and I hope my patience with people gets a bit stronger before I become a prof or teacher or something.
Oh and speaking of possible future paths, I was thinking on my walk to the grocery store the other day as I so often do that if I became a biomechanics expert, right?  Someone with a wealth of knowledge in how bones work individually and as systems, how they change, how they adapt to new environments, etc., I could totally be involved in space research.  Like I’d be a whole biological anthropologist focusing on how the human body changes/would change as a result of being on a different planet with different conditions and different pressures on the body, even if my background was in early human evolution, I think.  Like,,,, that’d be so cool guys.  I know biological anthropology perhaps wasn’t my absolute first choice in fields of study, but it’s really proving itself to me omg.  I wonder what types of classes I’d have to take to be able to do something like that?  I wonder if that’s even a thing?  I wonder if I could make it a thing?  I wonder if a focus on how gravity affected our skeletal evolution could be something I could study in grad school, then ultimately apply it to space?
Highkey wanna talk to somebody about this now?????  I wonder if I could like intern with NASA on this or something?  I’m sure this is a thing.  They absolutely study the effects of 0G on the body, so I could probably just join in on that.  I’d just want to know what path those scientists took to get to what they’re doing now, you know?
Gotta remember these ideas when I start applying for grad schools and grants and stuff lol.
Oh also I’m the only non pre-health person in my cell biology lab and honestly that’s hilarious to me.  We introduced ourselves and everyone was like “hi im a bio major and im predent/med/whatever” and I was like “hi i wanna be an academic :)” BUT we had the lab coordinator running that section bc the ta couldn’t and I was the only person she commented on “oh wow!  they do a lot more with genetics and ancient humans these days, that’s great!” so I consider that an absolute win.
Anyway my physics prof’s dad died and like,,, rip and all but this class had so many issues before this happened that are sort of just being compounded now.  Like, we started the semester off behind.  “Technical issues” and all, but really it just seems like our prof didn’t know what he was doing.  The very first homework assignment had its due date extended twice and was ultimately due a week later than initially planned because our prof spent the first twenty of fifty minutes rambling for the first week or so.  Then my prof left to be with his family and he gave us lectures he’d recorded while the uni was online last year, and I just sat through over an hour and a half of those lectures (at 1.75x speed bc I got homework due tonight) and like,,,, so much of that felt like wasted time, so I understand what he meant when he said in the first week of this sem that they were almost constantly behind last year.  It’s because half of the lectures are in a sort of “hurry up and wait” mode?  And the recorded ones are even worse than when we were in person.  I get why previous classes felt confused almost all the time.  Lecture is easy, the textbook talks down to you, and the homework is ridiculously difficult compared to everything covered on that topic.  Part of me wishes I’d just gone ahead and taken the hardcore calculus-based physics that the engineers take because I’d imagine it’s at least more straightforward than this?  But what I sacrifice on that front I gain in... idk.  This class isn’t easy, exactly, just weird.  I enjoy learning stuff and problem-solving but even this sort of seems pointless.  Idk.  We’re only 20%ish of the way in.
I’m not blaming the prof for not catching us up now.  Grieving is rough, I know.  I just think that this class as a whole needs to be better conceptualized.
One last thing: remember when Cecil said something like “The terror you feel in quiet moments is not misplaced, just mistimed”?  Well, I’ve found myself going on walks around the campus mall late at night because, well, it’s cool and peaceful and some days I don’t feel like I’ve walked a sufficient amount (the goal is a solid five miles a day).  I constantly turn to look behind me, and I only stay out while there are still people about, either on the mall or walking around it, because even though I tend to overestimate my own personal security, I’m also not entirely an idiot (like there was a literal armed robbery late at night in this area a bit ago so I’m well aware that this area ain’t the safest (though the university is sort of a bubble in that regard)).  Anyway while I was out walking sometime this week, maybe around ten at night, I had this horrible bout of fear come over me that I couldn’t quite explain.  It didn’t feel like some sort of panic/anxiety attack because the last time I had one of those it arose from overthinking.  This time my head was practically blank, and for a just moment I felt a wave of terror that brought me out of that blank-ish headspace and almost into some sort of fight or flight response, but not quite.  And it reminded me of that quote from WtNV.  Those really do just stick with you sometimes, you know?  Well, if that bit of fear was mistimed indeed, then I should hope that I can keep a level head in an instance that might actually be terrifying, if only for a moment of clarity.
Today I’m thankful for... for having the freedom and ability to walk to the grocery store.  I will admit though, one of the most expensive parts of moving into an apartment has got to be the grocery shopping to fill up your cabinets with basics.
Also I really did not expect for me to continue with almost daily journaling into the semester.  lowkey wack ngl.
Oh oh actual last thing I tried hanging my Starfleet banner over my bed again and it fell on me in the middle of the night (again) so next time I’m going to try using painter’s tape on the wall first then putting the command hooks on that.  Because I’m getting extremely close to putting literal pins in my wall just so I can have my first ever hanging decoration in a room I’ve lived in.  Actually that’s not completely true, as I had my pin banner freshman year, but that only barely counts.  And I suppose I had those fairy lights.  And the prints above my bed freshman year too,,,, okay I guess I lied BUT this banner would be the first decoration piece that actually highlights my personality instead of making me seem like a basic college girl (and I use that term sarcastically because, as we enlightened feminists are aware, the term “basic” can be used to put down our fellow women and we refuse to take part in that <3), so I really wanna get it up (...heh) hang it.
alright I’m tired and my calves hurt from last night and I still have things to do so bye

Do Republicans Vote In The Democratic Primary
New Post has been published on https://www.patriotsnet.com/do-republicans-vote-in-the-democratic-primary/
Do Republicans Vote In The Democratic Primary
Tumblr media
What Is A Voter
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, which took effect January 1, 2011, created “voter-nominated” offices. The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committees, or local offices.
Most of the offices that were previously known as “partisan” are now known as “voter-nominated” offices. Voter-nominated offices are state constitutional offices, state legislative offices, and U.S. congressional offices. The only “partisan offices” now are the offices of U.S. President and county central committee.
Who Can Vote In A Primary
Only Democrats can vote in the Democratic Primary.
Only Republicans can vote in the Republican Primary.
The last day to register to vote before the Primary is the 4th Saturday before the Primary.
The deadline to change party affiliation before the Primary is the last Friday in May.
You can register to vote and change your party affiliation after the Primary.
Step Four: Super Tuesday
A few other states voted in between New Hampshire and the end of February, but things really started to warm up by Super Tuesday, on 3 March.
What is Super Tuesday?
THE big date in the primary calendar, when 16 states, territories or groups voted for their preferred candidate in primaries or caucuses. A third of all the delegates available in the entire primary season were up for grabs on Super Tuesday. By the end of the day it became much clearer that Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders were the front-runners for the Democratic nomination.
The two states with the most delegates voted on Super Tuesday – California and Texas . California voted three months earlier than in 2016, making Super Tuesday even more super than normal.
States With Open Primaries For Other Elections
A similar system known as a nonpartisan blanket primary has been used in Louisiana for state and local elections since 1976, and began to be used in Washington, after numerous court challenges, in 2008.
In California, under Proposition 14, a measure that easily passed, traditional party primaries were replaced in 2011 with wide-open elections. Proposition 14, known as the open primary measure, gave every voter the same ballot in primary elections for most state and federal races, except the presidential contest.
Most primaries in New York are closed, but state law contains a provision allowing parties to use a different method if they want. Currently, only the Independence Party chooses to allow unaffiliated voters to participate.
Who Gets A Say
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some say the stricter primary systems restrict whose voice can be part of the democratic process and are therefore undemocratic. Parties can block who participates in primaries, or systems force voters to publicly identify with a party.
But Laurel Harbridge-Yong, associate professor of political science at Northwestern University, says the argument for limiting voting to party members makes sense those who align with a party should get to choose the issues and candidates who represent them.
To people who study political parties Its actually quite shocking to think that you would even have something like open primaries, Harbridge-Yong says. Taken in a different context, the question would be, Why should someone whos not a Methodist be able to help pick the priest at a Methodist congregation? Of course, it would be the people that are part of that denomination or that group who are the ones that are selecting their leader.
In June, the BGA Policy team had John Opdycke, president of Open Primaries, as a guest on the BGA podcast . Opdycke advocates for primary reform across the country, and said efforts are underway in 15 or 20 states to attempt to change primary systems.
There’s a lot of momentum, there’s a lot of activity, Opdycke said. And yet this movement is still very underdeveloped, very young and the opposition comes from both political parties.
And in Illinois?
How Do You Choose
When you show up to your polling location, youll decide whether you want a Democratic or Republican primary ballot.
But after choosing a side in the primary, you have to stay in that lane through the runoff. You cant vote Republican in the primary election and then participate in a runoff election between top Democratic candidates.
That said, voting in a primary does not commit you to vote for a particular candidate in the general election. You can vote for either partys candidate in the November election.
I Dont See That Happening
Martin told me she and other South Carolina Republicans had chosen to support Sanders because Biden still held a significant lead in the state. Im not sure if we could move him with enough crossover votes to overcome Biden, she said, but thats the math were looking at is who can we cross over and vote for that mathematically will cause the most consternation.
Ultimately, she hopes that the crossover vote push will cause South Carolina Democrats the same kind of angst that weve had for years and push them toward closing their primary.
I do not think it was a result of our efforts, even if we were as successful mathematically as we could be, that everyones going to agree to close the primaries tomorrow, she told me, but said coverage of their efforts was already getting traction with Democrats in the fight for closed primaries.
I asked whether Martin was concerned that a Sanders primary victory in South Carolina pushed by Republican crossover voters could ultimately result in a Sanders presidency. She took my point, but said, I dont see that happening.
The Iowa caucuses, she said, showed that the people that make the rules in the Democrat party are not going to allow Bernie to be the nominee. Citing debate rule changes and recent remarks by Democratic Party stalwarts like James Carville, she said that there was no way the party would permit Sanders to win the nomination.

Counties Are Doing Things A Little Differently This Time
If you live in one of the counties highlighted below, voting might look a little different this year.
In 2016, California passed the Voter Choice Act, a law aimed at modernizing the states election system, such that:
Every registered voter gets a ballot in the mail
Voters are no longer required to go to a specific polling place, but can vote at any number of voting centers or drop-off points
Voters can cast their ballots in person beginning 11 days before, and up to and including, Election Day
In 2018, five counties rolled out the new system. This year, 10 more will join their ranks. Thats fifteen counties in all containing 49% of the state population.
This is key for no party preference voters living in these counties who may not get the ballot they want in the mail. See the previous section for details.
Argument That Delegates Are Unbound
Former RNC committee member Curly Haugland and public policy consultant Sean Parnell argued in their 2016 book, Unbound: The Conscience of a Republican Delegate, that delegates are free to vote their conscience and are not bound by state or party laws to vote according to the results of party primaries or caucuses. Click on the following links to learn more about arguments for and against this interpretation of delegate binding:

Delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention selected Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee on August 18, 2020. The national nominating convention is the formal ceremony during which the party officially selects its nominee. The delegates are individuals chosen to represent their state, territory, or Democrats Abroad at the convention.
In 2020, there were 4,750 delegates: 3,979 pledged delegates and 771 automatic delegatesmore commonly known as superdelegates.
To win the Democratic nomination, a presidential candidate needed to receive support from a majority of the pledged delegates on the first ballot: 1,991 pledged delegates.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, several states postponed their primaries. Under Rule 12 of the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2020 Democratic National Convention, no primary or caucus was permitted to take place after June 9, 2020. Any state violating that rule could have been subject to delegate reduction penalties.
Step One: The Start Line
A whole year before the primaries, the first candidates emerged from hibernation. Over the year, others woke up and eventually 28 people announced they were running to become the Democratic nominee for president.
But dwindling funds, luke-warm or public reaction and campaign infighting have, to varying degrees, led to most of them pulling out of the race.
At the start of primary season, 11 people remained in the running, a number that has now reduced to three. In theory, any one of them could become the nominee. In reality, only two now have a chance.
Each Primary Has Its Flaws
When it comes down to it, both the Republican and Democratic parties have their own unique, subtle system by which they can override the nations popular primary vote.
The days when politicians gathered in dark rooms where cigarette smoke flowed out from underneath the door are over, but that doesnt mean the existing system is completely democratic.
For both Republicans and Democrats, theres more to winning a nomination than scoring Americas majority vote.

Why Some Conservatives Are Voting In Michigan’s Democratic Primary
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Katey Morse is on a journey of political atonement.
“I’ve gone on Facebook and apologized to family and friends and said hey, I made a mistake,” the 39-year-old Michigan resident said last year of her 2016 vote for Donald Trump.
Morse said that she got caught up in Trump’s celebrity and was impressed by his business record. And she assumed that the bravado she saw and heard on TV was just a character put on for the campaign trail that would subside once he got into office.
But she said she had learned since then that it wasn’t an act. A turning point for her came in March 2019, when she took her son to a Trump rally. She was horrified. Afterward, Morse had to have a conversation with the boy, then 7, about how not to talk about other people.
And as the Democratic primary season began to take shape last year, Morse started to consider voting blue.
It’s a choice some moderate Republicans across the state are also grappling with ahead of Tuesday’s Democratic primary contest. NBC News spent time with voters in Kent County, where Morse lives, just outside Grand Rapids. The hometown of Gerald Ford, the area is a traditionally Republican stronghold. Some Republicans here said they feel lost because they no longer recognize the party they grew up with. They’re wary enough about another four years of Trump’s presidency to consider the Democratic candidates.
No Party Preference Voters: Pay Attention
Registered Democrats, Republicans, Greens, Libertarians and other party members, rest assured. You are guaranteed a primary ballot with all of your partys presidential contenders on it.
But voters who dont belong to a political party the fastest growing voting block in the state will have to navigate a more daunting set of obstacles to cast a presidential primary vote.
Some parties have members only policies:
The Republican Party
The Green Party
The Peace and Freedom Party
If you want to vote in one of these three primaries, youll have to join that party. You cant do it as a member of any other party, or even as a no party preference independent. No exceptions.
The following three parties do allow political independents to cast ballots in their presidential primaries :
The Democratic Party
The Libertarian Party
The American Independent Party
But and this is an important caveat these voters do have to specifically request the ballot they want.
For those who vote in person, this is a cinch. Just go into your polling place when its time to vote and ask. But independents who vote by mail need to let your county know which ballot they want ahead of time.
Maybe you received a postcard that looks like this:
And if youve already received a ballot in the mail and were disappointed by the lack of presidential candidates, do notfill it out. You can always request a new ballot, but trying to vote twice is frowned upon .
Cancellation Of State Caucuses Or Primaries
The Washington Examiner reported on December 19, 2018, that the South Carolina Republican Party had not ruled out forgoing a primary contest to protect Trump from any primary challengers. Party chairman Drew McKissick stated, “Considering the fact that the entire party supports the president, we’ll end up doing what’s in the president’s best interest.” On January 24, another Washington Examiner report indicated that the Kansas Republican Party was “likely” to scrap its presidential caucus to “save resources”.
In August 2019, the Associated Press reported that the Nevada Republican Party was also contemplating canceling their caucuses, with the state party spokesman, Keith Schipper, saying it “isn’t about any kind of conspiracy theory about protecting the president … He’s going to be the nominee … This is about protecting resources to make sure that the president wins in Nevada and that Republicans up and down the ballot win in 2020.”
Kansas, Nevada and South Carolina’s state committees officially voted on September 7, 2019, to cancel their caucus and primary. The Arizona state Republican Party indicated two days later that it will not hold a primary. These four were joined by the Alaska state Republican party on September 21, when its central committee announced they would not hold a presidential primary.
Virginia Republicans decided to allocate delegates at the state convention.
Why You Need To Vote In The Primary Elections
True or false. You only need to vote in the November presidential election and not the primary elections.
FALSE!
For most American voters, the presidential primary elections matter more than the general election. Like Ive said before, if you live in a red state or a blue state, your vote in the presidential election wont make a difference. The rest of your state will overwhelming vote for a Democrat or a Republican. Your vote wont change your states outcome. .
But the primary elections are an entirely different story.
The presidential primaries determine who will represent the Republicans and the Democrats during the November election. Instead of voting between just 2 candidates, you have the choice of 3 Democrats or 12 Republicans. Unlike the general election, you actually have a chance of voting for your preferred candidate, not just the lesser of two evils.
Government 101: United States Presidential Primary
How Does the Presidential Primary Process Work?
The Convention
Prior to a general election, there is a selection process to determine which candidate will appear on the ballot for a given political party in the nationwide general election. Political parties generally hold national conventions at which a group of delegates collectively decide upon which candidate they will run for the presidency. The process of choosing delegates to the national convention is undertaken at the state level, which means that there are significant differences from state to state and sometimes year to year. The two methods for choosing delegates to the national convention are the caucus and the primary.
The Caucus
Caucuses were the original method for selecting candidates but have decreased in number since the primary was introduced in the early 1900’s. In states that hold caucuses a political party announces the date, time, and location of the meeting. Generally any voter registered with the party may attend. At the caucus, delegates are chosen to represent the state’s interests at the national party convention. Prospective delegates are identified as favorable to a specific candidate or uncommitted. After discussion and debate an informal vote is taken to determine which delegates should be chosen.
The Primary
Awarding the Delegates
Step Two: The Iowa Caucuses
The first event of the primary season isn’t a primary at all – it’s a series of caucuses, in Iowa. These took place on Monday 3 February, in somewhat chaotic fashion.
What are caucuses?
A caucus involves people attending a meeting – maybe for a few hours – before they vote on their preferred candidate, perhaps via a head count or a show of hands. Those meetings might be in just a few select locations – you can’t just turn up at a polling station.
As a result, caucuses tend to really suit candidates who are good at rousing their supporters to get out of bed. People like Bernie Sanders, for example, who performed well in Iowa this time, as did Pete Buttigieg.
Democrats’ key issues explained
Caucuses used to be far more popular back in the day, but this year, Democrats are holding only four in US states – in Nevada, North Dakota, Wyoming and Iowa.
If any candidate gets under 15% of the vote in any caucus, their supporters then get to pick a second choice from among the candidates who did get more than 15%, or they can just choose to sit out the second vote.
Why does Iowa matter?
A win there for any candidate can help give them momentum and propel them to victory in the primaries.
Why does Iowa not matter?
Iowa doesn’t represent the entire US – it’s largely white, so the way people vote there is very, very different than in other states.
How Are Primary Elections Conducted In California
All candidates for voter-nominated offices are listed on one ballot and only the top two vote-getters in the primary election regardless of party preference – move on to the general election. Write-in candidates for voter-nominated offices can only run in the primary election. A write-in candidate will only move on to the general election if the candidate is one of the top two vote-getters in the primary election.
Prior to the Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, the top vote-getter from each qualified political party, as well as any write-in candidate who received a certain percentage of votes, moved on to the general election.
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committee, or local office.
Primary Election Snafus Show Challenges For November Vote
Republicans’ and Democrats’ vastly different starting points help explain why the politics over voting and elections have been and likely will remain so fraught, through and beyond Election Day this year.
Sometimes it seems as if the politicians involved barely live in the same country. It has become common for one side to discount the legitimacy of a victory by the other.
And the coronavirus pandemic, which has scrambled nearly everything about life in the United States, makes understanding it all even more complicated. Here’s what you need to know to decode this year’s voting controversies.
The Rosetta stone
The key that unlocks so much of the partisan debate about voting is one word: turnout.
An old truism holds that, all other things held equal, a smaller pool of voters tends to be better for Republicans and the larger the pool gets, the better for Democrats.
This isn’t mathematically ironclad, as politicians learn and relearn regularly. But this assumption is the foundation upon which much else is built.
What The Gov: If I Voted Republican In A Primary Can I Vote Democrat In The General
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Illinois primary elections force voters to ask for a partisan ballot. From primaries to the general in November, heres what you should know about party identification and voting.
This article is part of a series called “What the Gov,” where BGA Engagement Editor Mia Sato takes reader questions related to Illinois government and upcoming elections and tracks down the answers. Ask your own question here.
Voters hear a lot about party politics at all levels of government, from Congress all the way down to local municipal elections. Some voters align closely with a party and others cast their vote on a case-by-case basis. But how does party identification impact how you can vote? Several readers were stumped.
Cynthia Mosley, a retired Chicago Public Schools teacher living on Chicagos Southside, is one of them. She remembers her mother didn’t vote in the primaries because it meant saying aloud to a poll worker which partys ballot she wanted. Cynthia wondered why voters have to declare a party to vote in the primary.
Another reader was thinking forward: could she could vote for any partys candidates in the general, or did she have to be registered with that party?
Were just a few weeks out from the November election and voters have a lot of questions both about the systems Illinois has and how it plays out in the voting process. Heres what you should know.
The Presidential Primary Will Not Use The Familiar Top Two Ballot
California voters can be forgiven for assuming that political party registration doesnt really matter.
In 2010 voters backed a measure to create the states nonpartisan top two election system, in which all primary voters fill out a ballot with every candidate on it regardless of either the voters or the candidates political party. The top two winners then move on to the general election ballot even if theyre both from the same party.
In races for state legislative and congressional seats, the top two method will still reign on the 2020 ballot.
But when you vote in the presidential primary, its back to the old partisan system: Democrats on the Democratic ballot, Republicans on the Republican ballot, and so on.
So while voting in California usually goes like this under the top two:
In the presidential primary, it looks a little more like this:
The 2020 Democratic Primary Is Giving Some Republicans Dj Vu
A large, diffuse and unyielding field of candidates is helping Bernie Sanders dominate. Republicans who tried to beat Donald J. Trump in 2016 see parallels.
FARGO, N.D. After a disappointing sixth-place finish in Nevada, which followed a less disappointing third-place finish in New Hampshire but a humbling fifth-place finish in Iowa, Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota looked out at the crowd of more than 1,000 and predicted victory in the North Dakota primary at the time, more than two weeks away.
Somehow, I have a feeling this primary is still going to be going on, she said.
That much seems certain.
The no-end-in-sight nature of the contest for the Democratic nomination is alarming those in the party who are hoping to blunt the momentum of the front-runner, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. The most likely way they believe that could happen a critical mass of the senators rivals drop out so voters can coalesce around a single alternative seems like the least likely outcome.
The irony is thick. Mr. Sanders, the candidate many establishment Democrats fear would have the most trouble beating President Trump in November, is benefiting from some of the same dynamics that helped Mr. Trump stampede to the Republican nomination four years ago.
As Republicans who weathered 2016 observe 2020, they are feeling a distinct sense of déjà vu. The parallels are not perfect, but there are many right down to the candidates themselves.

Do Republicans Vote In The Democratic Primary
What Is A Voter
youtube

Tumblr media

AU fic tips.
@cassylk: hey, i was wondering if you could share some tips on writing AU fics // any creative writing prompts?
Unfortunately I don’t write anything like that myself, so I don’t have any worthwhile tips :( Best of luck though!
TWLC and Pearl manuscripts.
Is there a link to any manuscript of The Warlord's Contract or Pearl that you can post?
And
My goodness your snippets are driving me insane! I'm already in love with Vasha and Ilya and Kleos!! Where can I read The Warlord's Contract?
I haven’t posted my manuscripts online, as they’re both in later drafts stages and I’m planning to publish them (relatively) soon. I should have the first chapter of Pearl up within the next few weeks though, and my current goal is to publish it as close to July as possible!
My publishing goals.
Hello, I was wondering whether you're looking to self publish or traditionally publish?
I’ve just started the self-publishing process with Pearl, but we’ll see where I go with The Warlord Contracts.
Overall, self-publishing seems to be more lucrative (but you have money to put in up front!) and far quicker, and it’s incredible the amount of control you have over your own work even after going through all the same steps a publisher would help you through. It’s a lot more work on your end though, and if your book never goes anywhere then you’re the only one to blame.
Writing habits.
As a writer, do you have any habits you do when you write? like curating playlists or moodboards or drinking coffee, etc.?
I do play music while I write (a wide variety of music for first drafts, and then mostly instrumental for editing and rewrites.) I also have a drink with me, either water, tea, or wine. :)
Writing Muslim characters.
Hello! So I have this idea of writing a Muslim character, but as I am not a Muslim, I’m not sure how to do so without offending anyone. Additionally, I am not well versed on the religion itself. Do you have any tips?
I’m in the same boat as you, so the best I can recommend is to do thorough research and get a few sensitivity readers once you’re finished! There’s a tag for it in the Writing with Color blog, if you want to start there?
Food as a skin color.
@charvaughn-writes: Hello! I was wondering if you could explain something regarding describing skin tone? Even as an African-American writer, I never understood what was offensive about describing skin tones using food. Luckily I've never unconsciously done it (and I don't plan to), but lately I've been curious as to why it's viewed as offensive. Can you provide some insight on this matter please (if you have an opinion/answer)? And I really hope this doesn't come off as ignorant/dumb, I'm genuinely confused.
As far as I’m aware, it’s because of these primary reasons:
Many of the foods writers use to describe darker skin tones are commodities black slaves were forced to farm.
Writers describe exclusively dark skin tones by relating them to food, despite the fact that there are a huge number of pasty white and tan foods that could easily work with light skinned characters.
Writing with Color explains it a bit more here.
Writing is Hard (TM)
Moving around scenes in chapters is so stressful ( .^. )
I feel you nonny. This is why I have about fifteen version of every chapter saved, because the Writer’s Instinct is to immediately go OH NO ITS NOT GOING TO WORK IM GOING TO RUIN EVERYTHING ILL HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. (Though generally it turns out just fine after a bit of editing.)
Re: for the diversity post.
Re: that other anon- I attended a private school for awhile and, granted it is in Seattle, it was really diverse actually. It turned out to be a cult so I left, but the student body was diverse in all ways except, y'know, we were all in a cult.
What did we learn from this?
Diversity is real and bigots can fuck themselves back off.
Private schools which are actually cults are also real, (and might make for very interesting story premises?)
Writing with Native American lore.
So, I want to write a book with a Native American main character. It's centered around Native American lore which I spent most of my high school career studying. I have a pretty good grasp around the culture and everything, But I'm not Native American, so I guess what I'm asking is.... Is it okay to write a story about Native Americans and their culture if I myself am not a Native American?
I’m not Native American either, so my opinion isn’t very relevant here. The general rule of thumb for any case in which you’re writing about someone else’s culture, identity, history, etc, is that it’s fine (and even good) to write such stories when they’re well-researched and respectful and have been read and approved by the people they’re representing.
I would highly recommend though, that you go out of your way to support the people from the culture who are writing these stories too. While we desperately need more stories with diverse centers, we certainly don’t want to be shoving down the Own Voice writers in the process!
(But please don’t take my word for it; go ask the opinions of people who have more authority on this subject!)
