OPINION: Why I think Transformers Earthspark will be remembered as one of the best Transformers shows of all time.
Long story short, Earthspark spoilers. Don't read if you don't want to be spoiled.
I'm delighted to say that Earthspark has again exceeded my expectations. Honestly, when the show was first announced, I expected it to be a TV show meant to pander to young children. It would either be silly or forgettable.
Nope.
The show has blown all expectations out of the water through its bold story-telling and animation. The characters all feel realistic- they have strengths and flaws, which are most apparent when they face difficult situations. Another strength is that this show is not afraid to tackle issues (war, moral issues- "how far are we willing to go for the sake of peace?", discrimination, etc) that have become a part of our society in the present and past several years.
In the new 8 episodes dropped, the central theme appears to be identity. Mainly about finding your identity (ex: finding an alt-mode), making up parts of your identity (ex: finding the right alt-mode that matches each character), and integrating new experiences into your identity (ex: Megatron's decision to gain an Earth-based alt-mode to earn the Autobots' trust)- those sort of topics. These are all important and wonderful topics to discuss and share in a show. However, what surprised me the most was that the writers were not afraid to show the ugly sides of identity-related topics.
The 17th and 18th episodes- "Home Part I" and "Home Part II"- subtly tackle racism and xenophobia. Robbie, Twitch, and Hashtag are visiting Robbie's friend in a skateboard park. While having fun, they stumble upon an anti-transformers graffiti- "Transformers go home". Twitch and Hashtags are shocked and upset over this. Twitch says "This just isn't okay" because they were born on Earth and have lived there for their entire existence. However, Robbie's friend insists that their existence on Earth isn't "okay" since "Invading the Earth wasn't okay either". He's essentially telling them that they exist because of the war, which was unwanted, so therefore, their existence "isn't okay".
That scene honestly emotionally destroyed me. Before I explain why let me say a few things.
I am Korean American. The experiences/feelings I will later talk about are my own and do not fully represent the Korean American and/or East Asian communities. Our community's experiences are varied; thus, one person’s is not enough to sum them all of them.
Throughout my life, especially in the past couple of years- during the COVID-19 pandemic, I have had all of these things happen to me:
- I have been called hateful slurs.
- People have made the slanted eyes gesture to me numerous times.
- A few people have greeted me with "ni hao". (This is offensive because they automatically assume I'm from China because I'm Asian. It supports the idea that AAPI communities are one monolith. Hint: They're not.)
- Many people have asked me if I eat dog meat… (I don't. Never have.)
- Too many times, I have been told to "go back home". (I don't even remember the exact number. That's an indicator of how many times it's happened)
- In college, I have had many academic and career advisors ask if I'm a foreign student. It doesn't appear be an offensive question, but if I were Caucasian, no one would have thought to ask me if I was a foreigner. But no, I am Asian, so there is a huge chance that I might not be American.
The fact that I am Asian, or Korean American, an ethnicity (Korean) not found in the Americas, is enough of an excuse to question my identity and my entire life - who I am, where I'm from, and my own habits. To many, it is an excellent excuse to ensure I feel like an outsider in my own home.
The "Transformers go home" scene destroyed me because it reminds me of the pain that comes from the fact that there will always be people who believe I do not belong in my own country- no matter how many experiences I have had and how ingrained they are in me.
These characters are experiencing that same pain, too, even when they shouldn't be. The insistence from Robbie's friend that their experiences aren't enough to explain their belonging to Earth because they are physically Cybertronian- or transformers- is especially heartbreaking.
However, Robbie stands up for his family and breaks ties with his friend. He refuses to accept the blatant discrimination his siblings are facing and leaves instead. This is significant because while the writers show the ugly side of human society, they also show how to combat it- by refusing to stand by and accept it.
This scene is likely why Earthspark will become and will be remembered as one of the best Transformers shows ever.
It's not just the animation or the stories/plots. It is the show's willingness to tackle issues that are difficult to discuss in real life.
In a world where Anti- Asian, Anti- Latino, Anti- LGBTQIA sentiments and (basically) any hate toward minority groups are on the rise, Earthspark is not afraid to go head-on with these issues. They are willing to show scenes to demonstrate the harm these ideas and beliefs can cause, as well as solutions on how to fight them.
The show embraces the beautiful sides of humanity- friendship, family, love, and hope- but is also not afraid to fight the ugly parts of it too.

People don't talk enough about how fascinating Elevenclara were. Like on the surface they seem like a very cutesy couple, they're sort of in the 'honeymoon phase'. But really the doctor sees clara like a puzzle to be solved, their relationship, as much as I love it, is actually a little fucked up.
Even one of the most popular "whouffle quotes" is a sign of this, "you are the only mystery worth solving". Clara thinks the doctor just asked her to come along because he liked her, and that's not entirely false, but its clear the main drive for him in series 7 is finding out who she is.
Meanwhile we also see the start of clara trying to prove herself to the doctor, putting herself in danger for him and taking charge when he is unable to. This obviously continues a lot in series 8-9, this is what I see people talk about as "doctorification".
But what's also interesting to me is that in series 7, the doctor seems to be Clara's only friend. The only other people we see her interact with outside of adventures is the kids she's nannying, and even they end up getting into trouble bc of the doctor. It creates an interesting dynamic where it seems like both their lives revolve around each other, and neither is trying to change that, in fact they're both driving it harder.

Steddie and Byler are so closely tied in my mind.
Somebody plz tell me if I’m completely late to the party here but like…
As much as Mike hates the guy, him and Steve are fundamentally the same. Of course, Mike is much nerdier and prone to bullying than Steve ever was, but at their core, they’re both just rich kids who don’t know how to be their own person. They’re both following in their parents footsteps—the polos, the button ups, the khakis…the American dream with a house and kids—and a girl. A nice girl.
And honestly Mike’s distain for Steve is even more compelling to me. Mike sees himself in Steve and he hates it.
Will and Eddie are of course different too, as far as mannerisms and interests go. BUT they share the same core character archetype—the freak. Not to mention the creative streak and the DND and the queer coding (or in Wills case, just blatant queerness.)
I also feel it’s important to point out just how similar Will and Eddie’s disappearances actually are, and the way the public talks about them when they’re gone. Think about it.
So. They’re alike, so what?
Well, let’s break down what happened in S4.
Mike reunites with El and Will in Lenora, and tries to patch things up with El, but ends up spending all of his time with Will and reconciling their relationship instead.
And all the while? El is spending her time in the memories of the lab with 001.
THEN. ALLLLL the way back in Hawkins, Steve is unraveling Vecna’s curse with Nancy and Eddie, and shows signs of wanting Nancy back (which is completely out of the blue, right? How weird!) Except he ends up spending alllll of his time!!!! With!!! Eddie!!! TALKING about Nancy!! The SAME way that Mike and Will are talking about El! And it serves to reconcile each of their misconceptions of who the other was in high school, under a safety blanket of heteronormativity. It’s a direct parallel to the van scene!
(And don’t even get me started on the failures to say I love you in both Mileven and Stancy!!)
Also what else do we remember happening in Hawkins? Nancy being pulled by Henry (001) into the memories of the lab…where Eleven has been the entire season. El and Nancy are the only two people to walk in Vecna’s mindscape without being under his curse…and why? Why connect them? And not just now.
Why dress El up in Nancy’s old clothes?
Tumblr media
Why provide strikingly similar shots of them crawling out of the Upside Down?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why make them both the girl that no one believes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are inherently tied (and tied with Joyce, but I seriously can’t get into that too this is getting so long) the way that Steve and Mike are, and Eddie and Will. It’s the love triangles, not just Steddie and Byler.
So now we’ve come to the last bit of this ramble, which is Eddie’s death.
There’s a lot of anxiety and controversy about what will happen between El, Mike and Will in S5, but we’ve already seen what is (supposedly) the older trios end—Eddie dies, and it ends because it cannot continue. There is no closure.
Wouldn’t it follow, then, that Will would die?
It’s scary, right? Eddie, much as we love him, was a fast-tracked version of what we have with Will. He was only a fraction and we got that upset. Imagine what losing Will would be like!
But here’s what I think. I think that Eddie dying—whether he remains dead or not—served as almost an extreme hypothetical. An ‘if your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?’ Because Eddie jumped. Eddie chose his friends over himself. Eddie saw himself as a selfish coward, and decided that the only thing he was good for was helping others along. And it killed him.
And Will? He gave all of his love and work over to make El happy. Because he sees himself as a selfish coward, and decided that the only thing he’s good for is helping others along. Will jumped.
So yeah, Will could die. The self-sacrificing tendencies are there.
Except. Mike jumped off the cliff, too. Literally.
So. When two people are willing to die for each other, is it a weakness or a strength?

Aziraphale’s Story Is Perfect
A “Good Omens 2” Essay
Tumblr media
Many believe what happened with Aziraphale at the end of season 2 was out of character or ruined his character growth from season 1, but in reality it did the opposite.
It was coming all along.
I have heard multiple people say that those last 10-15 minutes of season 2, episode 6 ruined Aziraphel’s character, but in reality it was perfectly in character for him.
(I know, bold words from some scrub on the internet. I just ask that you all hear me out first.)
To begin with, there are three main factors which deeply influenced Aziraphale’s final decision at the end of Good Omens, season 2. These are purity/naivety, idealism, and love.
One thing many seem to forget about Aziraphale’s character is how pure and naive he is—and how naive angels generally are in this series. In season 2, Aziraphale’s purity/naivety is pointed out by other characters on a few occasions. One happens while Nina is asking Crowley about what is going on between him and Aziraphale, eventually asking if he’s his “bit on the side.” Crowley shuts this down instantly saying how Aziraphale is “too pure” to be anyone’s “bit on the side.” This definitely points out the angel’s purity, but also hints at his naivety considering context. “Bit on the side” refers to having a sexual relationship with someone who is not married to you, which is why Crowley said to Nina that Aziraphale is too pure for that. Sex before marriage is often considered a sin in religion, and Aziraphale being an Angel must follow God as closely as he can. In addition, it is also quite possible he has limited knowledge on sexual pleasure or sex in general, showing not just purity, but naivety. For example, children are not just pure and innocent with little exposure to such topics, but also naive because of being unaware of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second instance was also led by Nina in the bookshop moments before our last 10-15 minutes of disaster. This time, she points out how Aziraphale is the cheerful one who “still believes in magic,” out of the two. Given she is trying her best to tell Crowley the two of them were literally made for each other (which who knows, maybe they were?), it still points out Aziraphale’s purity and naivety.
Children believe in magic, and children are often naive and can make poor decisions because of this. Why are they naive? It is because they lack experience. Experience removes innocence, and in return can destroy purity and naivety. It is revealed through this comment, and previous characterization (from both seasons), that Aziraphale is still childlike. His love of magic shows he is still a child at heart. Why would any being capable of real magic care so much for “fake magic?” The only explanation is because it catches the wonder of his inner child. Aziraphale, despite all his time on Earth, still lacks experience. Unlike Crowley, his trauma did not force him through physical changes and mental agony. Both Crowley’s fall and life with Hell were incredibly unpleasant. That is why Crowley, who suffered a lot worse than Aziraphale is more “mature,” for lack of better words. He has more experience and has lost most of his inner child he once had (shown when he was making the universe) than Aziraphale has. In short, Aziraphale lacks experience.
Tumblr media
Overall, this purity and naivety is Aziraphale’s greatest character flaw. When his life first started and we reflect on season 1, he once believed all angels must be as pure as Heaven. That was until things such as Armageddon were planned. Then he was able to have enough experience to know that some angels in charge are not as pure and good as he once believed. This begins to sway his perspective on them, but due to his naivety he still believes that Heaven is innately good and that nothing can change its innate goodness. That is because of what he was exposed to from early creation, Crowley being the only reason Aziraphale made any changes or grew at all. Without Crowly’s influence, Aziraphale may have simply gone along with Armageddon since the almighty plan, that God is in charge of, is the correct one (at least to him).
We see this a bit in season 2 in episode 1. When Crowley is making the universe and Aziraphale reveals it will be destroyed in a few million years, Crowley is greatly upset by this. However, Aziraphale said it casually, making clear he puts full trust into God’s decision because that is how he was “raised.” As an angel, he is to carry out God’s plan/s, no matter how absurd they may seem. This, however, becomes a struggle for Aziraphale since some of these plans are morally wrong.
This moves us towards the next leading factor into Aziraphale’s choice, idealism.
Tumblr media
When Aziraphale is offered the spot as archangel, it is clear he was hesitant. However, given the chance to help lead some of Heaven’s greatest decisions and to bring Crowley with him and turn him back into an angel (more on this later) he accepts. However, his choice seems odd with how poorly Heaven has treated Aziraphale, and how they really wanted him dead after stopping Armageddon. At the same time, he sees this offering as Heaven, and in return God, forgiving him. This forgiveness plays into his naivety, reinforcing his belief that Heaven is good. Heaven forgave him for his actions and is awarding him, thus seeing his goodness. This means Heaven must be good too and can understand goodness. Unfortunately for Aziraphale, this belief that Heaven itself is innately good is his ideal version of Heaven. He cannot believe that Heaven, the light, is not innately good, pure, and innocent. So, he sees it as his ideal version of itself for it is the only version that makes sense to him.
In short, his idealism of Heaven drives him towards accepting the offer. As he sees it, an angel as good as himself with such power can ensure that Heaven is indeed innately good. At the same time, if Crowley agreed then he could save Crowly—since Heaven is the “good guys” and everyone wishes they could be there. Finally, on top of this, by ensuring Heaven is good and pure like himself and like Crowley, Aziraphel could solve his greatest challenge: Trying to be an angel who follows Heaven as closely as he can.
His idealism of Heaven and nativity together give him this “identity crisis.” We see this clearest in the minisode of season 2, episode 2. At the end of the struggle with Job, Aziraphale believes Crowley has come to him to take him to Hell. It is clear that Aziraphale fears falling, but in this situation has decided he deserved it for lying to Gabriel. It catches the angel completely off guard when the demon tells him that he is not being sent to Hell. This is when Aziraphale’s identity crisis truly begins.
Tumblr media
He realizes he is no longer completely pure and loyal to God since he lied to the supreme archangel. Lacking purity, he should have fallen; he should be punished for his actions; he cannot be an angel now. Those intrusive thoughts begin to haunt Aziraphale, and create this tension. Him believing that Heaven is innately good and that all good, pure people go to Heaven, and that angels are magical beings that must represent this goodness, he finds himself suffering. Since being an angel is his identity, he must fit into the angelic mold. However, with how Heaven does things, some being the opposite of what his Heaven stands for, he fails to do this for it seems wrong. As a result, he begins to wonder if maybe it is him and not Heaven itself. This is why he struggles with his identity. He is struck wondering: Is he an angel if he does the morally right thing to him, or the morally right thing according to Heaven and God?
Realizing he could make these moralities the same when in the supreme archangel position, Aziraphale finds the offer upmost tempting. He can improve the angels around him, he can ensure his Heaven and actual Heaven are the same, and he can rescue Crowly from damnation. As he sees it, he has struck a pot of gold.
That leads to the last factor: Love.
Tumblr media
In season 2, love became the main focus with the mystery surrounding a secret love between Gabriel and Beezlebub. Along with this, we watched the ineffable husbands attempt to get Maggie and Lisa together, knowing Maggie has a crush on her. These relationships in the season are present not just to provide a plot, but also to mirror Good Omen’s true story, this being the “forbidden” love between Crowley and Aziraphale.
Aziraphale loves Crowley. This has been clear from the very beginning. However, Aziraphale cannot understand these emotions completely. He knows the other is at least his friend, perhaps his best friend, but that is as far as his thoughts go on the title of their bond. It is through Aziraphale’s actions that we can confirm that he loves everything about Crowley. There are little details such as the glances he exchanges with him, how he says his name, yellow being pretty, how his love language is touch, etc. In short, only someone who is blind would fail to notice that Aziraphale loves Crowley.
Unlike Crowley, Aziraphale never comes to terms with these feelings because the two never talk about it, and he is ultimately unaware of them. This ties into his naivety since he sees it as nothing more than the feelings of a friendship, Crowley being the only friendship he actually has. Without another to compare it to, it is harder for one with more innocence in life than experience to understand what they are feeling. Crowley is lucky enough to have that forced conversation with Maggie and Nina in the bookshop, but Aziraphale did not.
Tumblr media
Now, how does love play a role?
It all starts back at the very beginning before the universe. Crowley, as an angel, was filled with that same childish glee Aziraphale can still experience through things like human magic tricks. Since then, Aziraphale has never seen Crowley with that much wonder and joy. Now, loving the other as he does, getting the chance to make Crowley an angel again becomes even more appealing. One thought that likely crossed Aziraphale’s mind was that he could bring that joy back to Crowley by reversing the physical effects of Hell. However, this ignores all the experience Crowley has gained since then by asking questions and being on his own side. Hence, Crowley turns Aziraphale down. This upsets him. He wants to make Crowley happy, but fails to realize making Crowley an angel will not return that joy. He is still too naive and pure to realize that Crowley’s trauma from the fall still haunts him (which is why in season 1 we saw him change the subject every time it was brought up).
At least half out of love, Aziraphale took the Metatron’s offer. He thought it would solve not just his issues, but Crowley’s issues as well. However, it instead led to a massive fight between them, leading to a sudden kiss just before Crowley storms out of the bookshop.
Aziraphale is now a mess of emotions. Not long after, the Metatron arrives to see how it all went. Of course, Aziraphale reveals how Crowley took it very poorly. We then see that Aziraphale clearly hesitates to leave with the Metatron right away. He is clearly nervous, and tries his best to find an excuse to stay. For example, he asks who will take care of the bookshop, to which it is revealed Muriel will. Only once Aziraphale runs out of excuses does he leave for Heaven. Why? It is all because he loves Crowley. He tried his best to find some excuse to buy him time or turn the Metatron down. If Crowley was not part of the offer, he could have argued he had to keep an eye on the demon. Then he might have gotten himself off the hook.
Tumblr media
Truthfully, there is no way Aziraphale went up that elevator to Heaven without feeling any guilt. His issue is that he is too nice, too pure, and too naive. He could not turn the Metatron down because he would feel bad for doing so. Furthermore, he may have felt like he had lied to the Metatron since he already agreed. However, at the same time, if he goes he knows he will hurt Crowley even more.
Finally, a small detail is his actions before stepping into the elevator to Heaven. Before Aziraphale 100% commits himself, he asks what the plan is. When the Metatron says it is called “the second coming,” Aziraphale instantly loses his smile. We then see him look back at Crowley before putting on a fake smile and stepping inside the elevator. He knew what the Metatron meant, and since he and Crowley never talk, he assumes that Crowley has no clue about this “second coming.” So, out of love, he decides he must go to Heaven to put his foot down and stop this plan. It was a challenge to stop the first Armageddon, so this time Aziraphale plans to stop it before it starts.
Hence, Aziraphale goes back to Heaven, giving us our painful ending to season 2 with the ineffable husbands going separate ways. However, it was always a great possibility considering the complexities to Aziraphale’s character. He is naive and still believes in innate good, he wants Heaven to be his idealized version, and he loves Crowley and wants to see him happy. These traits naturally contradict each other, giving Aziraphale a constant struggle that leads him to take his new position. In short, Aziraphale’s story is perfect. It sticks true to his character, shows what would happen if the chance to change everything and anything came to him, and proves that his character is more complex than what appears to the eye.

Zodiac sign: Sagittarius
Ludwig
Ludwig is usually calm and bashful, but easy to get upset. He hates being in large crowds, feeling everyone's emotions. He also hates being put on the spot, he doesn't like attention. His enemy is Prince Peasley of the Bean Bean Kingdom, also Dieter from BFF. He is the leader of the Koopalings, and also the smart and clever. He is also the best cook. The only time Ludwig gets angry is when someone hurts or bullies his younger siblings. (Even Koopa Kid and Bowser Jr.) He thinks Roy is the hardest to handle. Another problem is that everyone thinks he is trans at first.
Roy
Roy is probably the opposite of Ludwig. He is short-tempered and easy to anger. He loves to get into fights with his siblings and others, which is why when Ludwig is gone he can not take over. The Koopaling he fights the most with (No, Bowser Jr doesn't count) is with Iggy. Roy hates Beef (also from BFF) the most because he feels like he is being mocked or threatened. He does have a kind side though. He hangs out the most with either Ludwig or Wendy. He also gives good hugs (not as good as Morton). He is also not allowed to punch Larry, 'cause he's the youngest. He is physically the strongest.
Morton
Morton is the most easygoing of the Koopalings. He hardly ever gets angry, but he does get upset. He keeps it to himself though, to not make anyone else hurt or angry. He is the most comforting and gives the best hugs. Struggles talking sometimes, but other than that: pretty good. He tries to get along with Junior the most. So basically, Morton is most of the time happy.
Wendy
Wendy is also short-tempered, but not as much as Roy. She is the only girl Koopaling, so she tries not to act too girly. When Ludwig is unavailable, Wendy takes charge. Wendy looks up to her older brothers (or Iggy) when she gets upset. She also tries hard to be pretty. She and Ludwig work the hardest, because they want to receive praise. Roy is the one who makes her mad, teasing her to her limit. Wendy hardly spends time with Lemmy.
Iggy
Iggy is the crazy prankster of the family. He laughs a lot at the wrong times. Doesn't mean he has problems, though. He tends to get into moods sometimes, and it's usually his twin to comfort him. Iggy and Lemmy protect each other at all costs. Iggy has a pet named "Chompers" but Junior calls him "Chompy". Iggy is also really good with mechanics and science. He gets along the best with Lemmy and Larry. He is the second most mentally strong out of the Koopalings.
Lemmy
Lemmy is both easygoing and short-tempered. He is easygoing around his siblings (mostly Larry), but he gets angry when he is teased for being trans or being called short. (even though he can't help those things) He also gets short-tempered when he finds out one of his siblings is in danger, so he carries a big knife around with him at all times (actually so does Iggy, but he carries a pocketknife). Him and Larry have the strongest relationship out of the Koopalings, and Lemmy is also the most balanced. His life motto is: "Life is like a bouncy ball, whenever you face a problem, you always have to bounce back."
Larry
Larry is the youngest of the Koopalings, and unlike most, is very quiet. Speaks rarely, even though his siblings love his voice. He loves tennis almost more than anything, and he gets along with Lemmy the best. None of the Koopalings know that Larry is gay, and Larry doesn't really want them to know. He is the most mentally strong of the Koopalings, because he keeps most of his things or problems to himself.
Bowser Jr.
Bowser Jr is Bowser's only son who is not adopted. He hates the Koopalings. Iggy calls him "Junie" and Morton calls him "Small Bowser" but Bowser Jr just wants to be called "Junior". He is younger than Larry, and really short-tempered. He is like a mini-Roy. He is also excited to become king one day and take his dad's place. He also is really bad at math.
Topper
Topper is the oldest of the Broodals, which is not as hard as Ludwig's job. He hates loud noises and inappropriate things. He is also the most short-tempered. But Topper is actually a really nice guy, though.
Hariet
Hariet has a competitve spirit, and loves challenging Larry at tennis (Larry always wins and Hariet always becomes a sore-loser). She gets along well with Wendy, because they are both the only girl sibling. She also likes bombs. A lot.
Spewart
Spewart is the most quiet of the Broodal family, and is best buds with Ludwig. (I think he would get along with Lemmy since they are both trans, but they don't know that).
Rango
Rango is the youngest, and is gay. Like, really gay. He takes care of his pet Chain Chomp the most, and loves taking walks.
Koopa Kid
Koopa Kid is the middle child of the Koopalings. He is a pain in the ass, let's just say that right now. He bothers the Koopalings physically and mentally. He is really jealous of Junior becoming king one day. He hates Ludwig and Iggy the most, and also loves Dieter (actually). (You'll find out more later)
Kamek
Kamek is Bowser's assistant. He is in charge when Bowser is away, which is always a handful. Most of the time he doesn't even stay at the castle, he just runs (technically flies) off somewhere.
(Sorry the Broodals info sucks) Also, just a reminder that my original account is @koopalingandtwicefan-27 and I will be posting more on this account, and it is another ask blog. If you made it this far, I thank you for that, because I know this is a lot.
Welcome to my Koopaling AU!!

I’VE JUST HAD A REVELATION
At the end of chapter 13, Rime probably kills mc and Felix out of desperation. We don’t know why he does, but depending on mc’s relationship with him, he’s either remorseful about it or just kinda so-so.
HOWEVER I WAS THINKING- WHAT IF THE ASTROLABE SAVES MC, KINDA LIKE IN SAGE’S ROUTE WHEN GRAMME TRIES TO KILL THEM?? THEN MC IS TELEPORTED BACK TO EARTH BY THE ASTROLABE, REALIZES, AND THEN TRIES TO GO BACK TO ASTRAEA BUT IT’S ANOTHER TIME SKIP AND SUDDENLY THEY’RE THROWN INTO A WORLD WHERE THE SPIRITS HAVE GAINED BODIES AND FELIX HAS BEEN DEAD FOR SIX MONTHS??? THEN THEY TRY TO FIND ANISA, SAGE, OR JUST ANYONE BUT END UP FINDING RIME AND CONFRONTING HIM. RIME EXPLAINS THINGS, MC GOES TO THE VOID TO FIND FELIX, EXCEPT HE’S BEEN IN THE VOID FOR FAR TOO LONG (BC TIME MOVES DIFFERENTLY IN THERE COMPARED TO ASTRAEA) AND HE’S STARTING TO CHANGE LIKE RIME DID. WHETHER YOU GET THE GOOD OR BAD ENDING, MC IS EITHER ABLE TO BRING FELIX BACK AS HIMSELF, OR HAS TO FIGHT HIM
WHAT IF THE WRAITH POSSESSES FELIX’S DEAD BODY BC HE’S DEAD SO NOW IT CAN??? I JUST REPLAYED CHAPTER 13 AND IM FULL OF IDEAS AHHHHHHHH

Alright, so Cissie is back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Green Arrow (2023) #1 cover art by Sean Izaakse)
I feel like I’m calm enough after the unbelievable burst of excitement and happiness this cover gave me when I first saw it, so let’s talk about this.
First off, I have to say that until I saw this cover last week, I didn’t think Cissie should be Arrowette again, and this cover gave me different ideas and hope for Cissie’s future, so my judgment might seem clouded.
So first, to any Meghan Fizmartins and co out there listening who have no idea why Cissie quit being Arrowette, here’s a “brief” summary:
After her Counselor and mother figure, Dr. Marcey Money, gets killed by her ex-boyfriend, Cissie (rightfully) throws a fit and blames the lack of gun control in the U.S. as the reason for the murder. After that, she puts on a darker version of her Arowette costume (the same one Sean Izaaksa used for the GA cover), and goes to hunt down Marcey’s killer and his friend that was with him. During the chase, Cissie questions herself how much of a “Good Guy” is she, chasing down these men like that. At the end of the fight, she fires a killing shot from her bow, intending to kill Dr. Money’s murderer, when Superboy comes out of nowhere and catches the arrow. Then, she runs away and cries, confused and distraught. In the next issue she’s in a catatonic state following her actions, and after she gets out of it she breaks her bow and declares it’s not hers anymore. In the next issue she quits Young Justice. She makes it clear she never wants to be Arrowette again in the rest of the series, saying she can’t lose control again and talking about how her mom forced her into the hero life.
For a much more extended and detailed version I recommend reading Young Justice #15-17, it’s a great story and a great read.
Now, she has donned the Arrowette suit a couple of times after quitting, most, if not all, were pretty weird and out of character.
Tumblr media
Starting off, we have that creepy thing in Spyboy/Young Justice, which I’m not 100% sure is canon at all, but it’s still worth talking about for a bit. In this miniseries, Cissie doesn’t actively choose to be Arrowette again any way, with Kon & Bart stealing her clothes while she’s in the bath and replacing them with the Arrowette costume, basically forcing her to put it on. They did give her a choice as to which costume to wear, the darker version from before or the usual one, and she chose the usual one, but I don’t feel like we should really give them credit for that. After that, she walks around in the costume, but doesn’t shoot a single arrow (she almost does, but she gives up on it) or fight, and is really just Cissie in a costume and less Arrowette. She also talks about how her friends are uncomfortable with the ‘Cissie’ part of her and they don’t know how to react to her with one of the spyboy characters. Overall I don’t hate it, except for the way they actually got her in costume.
Tumblr media
Next we have the most confusing one yet. In Wonder Girl (2007) Cissie tells Cassie she could always go back to Arrowette for her (and later on in the miniseries she actually does), Completely disregarding her quitting storyline. That might (probably) be the writer’s mistake, but I’d like to think Cissie was at a point in her life here where she made peace with the whole “Arrowette” thing and with her mother and is just willing tp help an old friend with her slightly unusual skillset. She also previously hadn’t completely associated her archery with Arrowette (she competed in the Australia Summer Games an won a gold medal during ‘98 YJ), so maybe she’s just come to peace with that part of it all now. But since that is never specifically said in the series, I’m only assuming stuff.
Since then, she wasn’t seen as Arrowette or in general for more than 10 years, only showing up again in Young Justice (2019):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s no real explanation for her coming back this time other than, again, like last time, she’s made her peace with Arrowette and is only helping an old friend (Conner, this time) dressed in the most generic Archer-superhero outfit that came out of nowhere. She was barely in the series, but her return was handled badly anyway. Unless, of course, you’ll consider my theory from the previous time she came back canon, it’s pretty annoying that Brian Michael-Bendis brought her back, instead of Anita for example (which would’ve made much more sense), even after stating she was retired.
Now we have my least favorite handling of Cissie post-quitting.
Tumblr media
Oh, Dark Crisis: Young Justice, the definition of shattered hopes.
This is complete and utter bullshit. Not only Cissie kept being an archer after quitting and had several storylines in Young Justice (1998) related to her archery outside of Arrowette, Cassie not only knows that, she was literally there for half of it. Cissie is an archer, and that’s a part of her that she pretty much completely separated from her Arrowette persona, and she made that clear in more than a few instances during the original Young Justice run. I hope Joshua Williamson isn’t taking Cissie character lessons from this run, which not only handles Cissie quitting weirdly, but is outright spreading misinformation about Cissie.
Tumblr media
Has Meghan Firzmartin even read the original YJ run? I don’t think she did, at least not fully. Cissie quit because of very specific reasons I've previously stated, not this. She also has a good relationship with the rest of Young Justice, and definitely doesn’t see them this way.
Even though Cissie isn’t Arrowette at any point in this run, it feels much worse than any of my prior examples. Also, she is basically running around as Arrowette there, just without the costume. I hope the new Green Arrow series will ignore DC: YJ, because it’s just bad.
So to sum it up? I’m not completely disappointed Cissie is Arrowette again. I do hope Williamson will actually handle her past and not make her a whole new character for his run. I think a Cissie as Arrowette story can be interesting, if it’s at least implied she felt with her trauma from her quitting incident and made peace with everything the name and the costume mean. However, with all my high hopes, I'm still being realistic and I'm gonna say I don’t think I'll get everything I want in the new series. The series is currently a mini-series of six issues, unfortunately (but preorders might change that and give us more issues! Preorder the first issue!), and it tackles a seemingly large cast of characters with a lot of mysteries and questions around them and their appearance in the book. And with the actual plot being them trying to find/retrieve Ollie from where he was last stuck in in Dark Crisis, I do think there'll be space for good character interactions but not for a lot of individual character exploring. Overall, I think the series will handle Cissie’s return basically how YJ (2019) did, with a mostly unexplained return, but I guess a girl can dream about more.

Lyle is the only Legionnaire who gave himself his own powers on purpose (as far as I know at least), and I wish that was something that was explored more because it's so interesting. It says so much about him as a character that he chose to give himself the power of invisibility. I know it's presented as a thing he did just for fun, but I don't think it's a stretch to think that he felt pretty lonely for most of his life before joining the Legion, what with his parents being very absent and having only one friend during his childhood (that he later lost).
And the same goes for Threeboot Lyle, who also has a strained relationship with her parents (to put it lightly) and struggles with feeling underappreciated. But I think the fact that Jim Shooter intended for Lyle to be trans also adds another layer to her creating an invisibility serum, using her invisibility to hide herself because of her gender dysphoria.

My Personal Thoughts About a Mostly Forgotten 13-Year-Old Show
Ok so LOST, right?
I've spent the past 3 or so months watching the entire series for the first time, and now, a week or so after I watched the finale, I'm here to give my comprehensive thoughts on the entire show. (Spoilers- It's one of my all-time favorite pieces of media).
Ultimately, I ask why I'm so passionate about LOST. In many respects, I don't particularly feel like it's a great piece of media. The story itself, while interesting, can be extremely sloppy, tons of stuff gets rushed explanations or no explanations at all, and there are roughly three episodes per season (usually more) that I just flat-out cannot stand. So why, you may ask, is it one of my favorite things to ever grace the earth? Why do I cherish it like it's a perfect work of art? What exactly makes me cry when I think about the ending for too long?
Well, ultimately, LOST's themes and characters resonated extremely strongly with me personally. The story itself is a complete trash-fire mess for the most part, but it's held together by its absolutely fantastic cast of characters and the overall core theme of the show. Ultimately, LOST is a show about life, death, and everything in between. It's a journey more than it is an outright destination. I love the ending of the show, it's my favorite episode, probably, but it isn't the point of LOST. It never was the point. The point was enjoying spending time with these characters, seeing them slowly grow as people and overcome their personal insecurities. The Island, in turn, was a vessel for this. Jack's journey from being a pessimistic man of science to an optimistic man of faith is satisfying to watch because I cared about his character and wanted to watch him overcome his flaws.
To this extent, each character in LOST learns to overcome their problems and live their lives as they see fit. That, right there, is the core theme of LOST that resonated so strongly with me. The idea that your past does not define you as a person, and that you can overcome your sins and rise to be a truly wonderful person in the present and in the future. Kate and Sawyer, two of my favorite characters, are both murderers, yet they are treated roughly the same as anyone else in terms of their past. Even when the other characters learn of their wrongdoings, they're still accepted as the people they are NOW, not the people they were when they boarded 815.
Every time I think about the central ideas of LOST, my mind always comes to Greatest Hits. Personally, I think it's one of the strongest episodes of the entire show and it's the only episode aside from the last one that made me sob like a baby. Watching Charlie finally accept his incoming death as he sails out towards the Looking Glass would've been powerful enough, but it's treated as a celebration of life, not a mourning of death. Charlie is sailing to the Looking Glass with the knowledge that he is going to die. Despite Charlie being a flawed person, someone who was struggling with drug addiction, withdrawal, and aggressive tendencies in Season 2, the episode never once talks about any of that. The audience is finally seeing a Charlie that is free of his past, able to spread his wings and fly. Aside from that, aspects of his addiction are only scarecly shown in the episode, instead choosing to focus on how he actually lived his life, and his life's "Greatest Hits", as it were.
Also the scene with the ring personally obliterates me every time I think about it. Along with that, the words "The Night I Met You" are seared into the depths of my brain forever.
So, this brings me to The End. To the general public who was primarily watching for the answers to the big mysteries, sure, it was underwhelming. To someone like me, who was intentionally examining the themes of this show, it was the single most satisfying conclusion the show could've pulled. The final scene in the Church is, in essence, what LOST was really about the entire time. Everybody dies sometime, but the most important thing in life is the time you spend with each other. That's really all there is to it. It's a simple message, sure, but an exceptionally powerful one.
This has been my thoughts on a 13 year old show that has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of media ever. I'm already looking forward to wrapping up in a blanket next winter and watching it all over again.

I'm very glad to see notes on certain posts once in a while. It's...very reassuring to someone with like...catholic guilt beaten into them to see people agreeing that the things you make, create, fantasize, and enjoy do not make you a bad or good person. That they aren't what makes you a person worthy of respect and love and care.

Eurath ramble again, this time without imagery. Today’s rambling focuses on Eyth and Eythim!
Eyth is the magic in Eurath. They say it’s the souls of ancient gods. Highly powerful crystals of Eyth are called Eythim. Eythim deposits can be found underground. Mining and distribution of Eythim is highly regulated. Due to its rarity, Eythim is expensive. However, anyone can do small magical acts because of the Eyth in the air, water, and some flora and fauna. Anyone can use Eyth, but some people have a higher affinity with Eyth than others (typically descendants of gods) and can control Eyth however they please. They can just take an Eythim crystal and speak what they want, and it will be so. Eythim are consumed when used. If someone has a lower affinity with magic (an average citizen) they will need more than that. Herbs, rituals, and spells are used to help guide the spell. People can also learn, through practice, how to be better at Eyth use, but due to high costs, extensive use like this is reserved for the wealthy. Some descendants of gods can tattoo themself with certain runes, allowing them to store Eyth instead of using it. This allows for far greater feats of magic at a time, and is much more cost efficient.
Woah, that was a lot. If you made it through, thanks I love you. If you have any questions, please ask! I’ll be back later! This concludes today’s Eurath Rambles.

Spoilers for D&D Curse of Strahd
I need to vent, and I don’t want to vent on people I know so let’s shout into the void!
TLDR – Party had a TPK event and 2 of the members are leaving. They are good friends of mine and one of them has pissed me off by making personal attacks.
So everyone should be dead. A party of lvl 3s took on 3 night hags working as a coven. It’s the windmill. Anyone who’s played Curse of Strahd know this part. How we got here, Is simple. Names have been changed.
Players:
Aaron: Light Cleric (Husband)
Sophie: Paladin of Vengeance (Wife)
Maya: Wild Magic Sorcerer (played as a 9-year-old child)
Wayne: Armorer Artificer (My Character)
Background events
Had a 5th that dropped from the campaign the day of this session
Burgermeister informed the party that people go missing
Maya is played very chaotically.
Met an old woman selling pies during the night. Was told they help people go to sleep.
Old woman offered to buy Maya. Sophie said no and imposed herself between them.
Out of Character (OOC) Sophie realizes the fable the old woman was about We made jokes about the pies being made of children.
Hung out with the Vistani. One of the warnings was to stay away from the windmill.
We have a deed to a windmill from the “Death House”
Events of the day:
Everything was uneventful so far. We crossed a bridge and had ravens flying around. They didn’t mess with us so we didn’t mess with them. Came across the remnants of a village with spinning windmill blades poking over the hill. Maya wanted to explore, Wayne & Sophie were ambivalent, and Aaron wanted to keep going. We decided to check out the village and arrive at the windmill.
As we approach, a raven sits on the door frame and caws at us. The cawing gets louder and more rapid as we get closer before flying away. I say OOC, “It’s almost like that’s a warning.” Maya runs up and knocks on the door. The old woman from before answers. Maya hides behind Sophie. Aaron begins to speak with the old woman. He’s making a deal about how he owns the windmill. Wayne sees this and confronts Aaron. They argue about whether Aaron should care about the ownership of the windmill. During this, Sophie messages the Dungeon Master (DM) and casts detect good and evil. She finds out that the old woman was evil.  She than casts Abjure Enemy on the old woman. DM calls of Initiative rolls.
Sophie is top of the round. First thing she does is strike her for almost max damage: breaking Abjure Enemy. Aaron is next and casts scorching ray. Old woman is next and does a few things. She calls out for her sisters, runs inside, and summons a minion. Wayne goes and rolls a nat 1. The DM has me roll for damage and has me take it as feedback. The damage was almost half of my HP. The fight continues and two hags show up from upstairs. We get our ass kicked. My character stays outside due to the size of the room and fires lightning at the hags. Wayne see the writing on the wall and tried to get those he can up and run away. Then it happens. DM has the Hag do a mass sleep spell. Everyone other than Wayne falls asleep, and Sophie was making death saves. Wayne ran. The DM had the Hags stabilize Sophie. Sophie leaves the discord call
Aftermath:
DM Explains what happens next. I would have a one on one to bridge the gap and the rest of the group will continue next session. DM informed them that the hags will have them make a deal. They will need the find children and sell their pies. DM than informed them that if they didn’t want to take the deal or just wanted to play a new character, their character will die. If they keep playing the character, then they get the chance to change their race to Hexblood. He informed them that anything that happens to them can still be reversed. Sophie returns and he goes over everything again. He then says goodnight and logs off.
The players are still in discord and talk about the session. I am excited. I see conflict and I want to see how the story goes. Sophie is mad and Aaron is dejected.  Maya stays quiet. I don’t pay attention to this and start to speculate on how Wayne is gonna react when he sees them. Aaron and Sophie are complaining on how the hags should have never been that strong and how they should have had a chance to win the encounter.  I gloss over them and keep going.
The bombshell gets dropped by Sophie, “I’m Done. I’m done with this campaign.” I went quiet. All the excitement I had evaporated. I didn’t fight them. I just nodded my head. Sophie said she wasn’t enjoying the campaign and with the 5th leaving, she couldn’t trust the rest of us. Maya due to her chaotic nature and Wayne for running away. She said she felt that Aaron was the only other player and she didn’t want to run a two-person campaign. I just stayed quiet with vague affirmations to keep support.  I soon left the call.
The Next Day:
I was playing with Aaron and another friend on Xbox. We were having fun and she asked how D&D. Aaron started going off. He started off by saying the campaign was done. He complained about the encounter, with the DM’s capabilities, and with the player Maya.  This is where is where it pushed me over. Maya’s character was based off her daughter.  Aaron relayed this and then added the comment, “With the way she plays her, you’d think she thought poorly of her daughter.” I was pissed but I kept playing.
At the end of the night, I asked Aaron when they’d tell the DM they were leaving. This set him off again and he continued. I waited for the other friend to leave before I started speaking up. I question the actions they took and why Sophie just attacked. His reasoning was that it was in their character. He then proceeded to give me method after method on how he would have ran the campaign. He told me that for him to stay, the DM would have to change how he ran the campaign. It came to a head when I asked him if he trusted the DM to run the campaign. He informed me that he did not. I responded that I did.
Typing this out has helped me sort myself out. I’m still mad at Aaron for his comments at Maya. I realize there is a fundamental difference between how each of us sees it. I don’t see him staying and it saddens me. Now it’s 2 a.m. and I have a headache.
Thank you for reading.

A long (and personal) rant about what’s happened at RoosterTeeth (overdue I know)
It’s taken me a while to really sit and think through this. I had more things written when I was running on raw emotion, but I’ve since dialled it back. I didn’t want my last post on here to be the last thing I say about it. So, with that out of the way;
The reality of how bad things had gotten at RoosterTeeth hit me after the layoffs, and the Black Lives Matter movement when Mica Burton expressed how she was actually treated by some people behind the scenes. I really felt for her on that one Off Topic episode.
For years, RoosterTeeth had always preached about how fun their workplace was and how they were all like a family. So many fans wanted to work there, and even though employees there themselves always said “don’t aim to work here” we still grew up watching their videos, drawing fan art, writing fanfics & idolising these people, wishing that we knew them.
Since the whole ry*n and ad*m thing, fans have been burned before, learning in one of the worst ways possible that putting these people up on a pedestal like that can go right to their heads and make them feel like they can get away with anything. How some will take advantage of their fans, the people who trusted them.
The media company that I grew up watching, their videos I watched religiously from 2012 through to 2015, it was all sunshine and rainbows, but only on the surface. If only I’d have known what was really going on this whole time. I’ve not followed RT or AH for a long time, and when I have been keeping up with some stuff, it’s been on Twitter when a new controversy arises. Which is a total shame.
I’m just glad that Ray got out of there and found his true calling in life. He’s done so well for himself after he left, married the love of his life, has 2 dogs, a home, and a career that he now has control over, getting to do what he wants and no longer feeling burnt out like he was. That fans (for the most part) respected his choice, even if they didn’t like it, realising that actually he was better off in the end.
I’m so happy that Mica has since moved on to bigger and better things, found her people over at Critical Roll, who all welcomed her with open arms, and has been on freaking Star Trek alongside her dad! Love all of that for her, and she seems genuinely happy now!
I’m glad that Kdin told her story, has forgiven people who’ve come forward and apologised for their actions and past behaviours, let everyone know who her real friends are, and called out the people who did wrong or turned a blind eye to the shit that went on and did nothing to help her.
I was happy to see people actively riot when Matt announced his job had been dissolved. When he & Jeremy first joined AH, I saw a lot of negativity towards them, generally “change bad” and “new people not funny” but they were once fans like us, who we thought were lucky to work there. Now though, they’ve seen the other side and have still stayed humble. They seem like good, genuine, down to earth people who are still so invested in the RT community. Showing their support for Kdin, Ray, Mica and everyone else who was hurt by all of this. I hope they all stream together someday!
I’m glad that Michael delivered what I thought was the most genuine apology out of everybody and that Kdin has forgiven him. He has since shown growth, not just in his words but with his actions. He’s not the same person he was when he started at AH. He’s stepped up and taken responsibility. Not everyone forgives him, not everyone sees it that way, but I’m glad Kdin does.
One of the best things that RT ever did, was hire Monty Oum. If there’s one thing that man did for me while he was there, was that he taught me to never give up. To strive for the life that I deserve, and not settle for anything less, and to be creative. Even if it means I’m not good at something first, even if it takes a lifetime. To be thankful for life in general, because you never truly know how long you have.
The only thing that really stops us is time.
I never wanted to work at RoosterTeeth, I just wanted that creative and encouraging workplace that felt like a family, where my voice was not only heard but also listened to. Where I felt valued and respected. Now I’ve found that, and I get to live that dream. After years of feeling like a failure and not having any direction or purpose, and I never take that for granted. “Not everyone gets to do what they love as their job, and there’s never a day where I forget that.” I now feel the love that I’ve craved so much and for so long. I don’t want to not exist anymore, I want to live my life knowing that Monty would be proud of me, to be proud of myself, and to do enough living for both of us.
It just saddens me that this wasn’t the true reality for some working at RoosterTeeth. The things it did give me, that I will always cherish and take away from it- good memories, ideas, inspiration, laughs, moments that got me through some of the darkest times of my life, and hope for the future. Belief in myself that I could do anything I set my mind to, and to aim beyond the stars. Let my imagination run wild and it would get me there in the end. It’s never too late, I’m not too old, I am good enough, and I’m not alone.
“You’re never fighting alone, get up, get going, I’ll meet you there.” AND,
Keep Moving Forward.
Anyway, /rant.

Something that really upsets me is that I wonder if those who did not have to cope with the reality of the constant threat of school shootings as a child (or as a teacher) are aware of just how generally traumatic it is for those who did.
Obviously those who experience a shooting firsthand are traumatized, no one is ignoring or unaware of that. I mean the general student body. My generation and those younger had to, from a young age, be made aware of our own morality. We have to practice what to do if someone storms our school with the intent to kill before we even know what death is.
We hear the stories of teachers who died protecting their students, our own teachers tell us they'd do the same in a heartbeat every time we have a drill. You don't want them to die. You don't want to either. We see the news articles of kids who only survived by pretending to be dead, some of them hiding under the bodies of their friends, some of them covering themselves in the blood of their classmates. We make an effort to remember that, since it might be what saves our lives one day. Some of us realize that most often the shooter went through the same drills we did, they know where we hide, they know what the colored paper your teacher puts in the window means, they know which classrooms are empty and which ones are not. We realize that the only thing that will save us is the bravery of ourselves and those around us.
After one drill a friend leans over and asks if you've pre-written a text to send to your parents in the worst case scenario. "The cell service sucks in some of the classrooms," they say, "you never know which one you'll be in, but your phone will keep trying to send a text even if you aren't using it." The words "even if you're dead" go unspoken. At the time you think it's a very good idea. Years later it will be a memory that you can't think about without crying. You open your notes app. "Mama I'm writing this ahead of time in case theres an active shooter. If I don't make it home I love you. Tell dad I love him too. Thank you for everything you've done for me. I love you. I'll probably be ok mama, don't worry. I love you."
As children we are writing our own obituaries, our own wills, our own eulogies, and walking around with them in our pocket. The bell is no longer to change classes, but a death knell. And these are things every child today has to cope with, every child has to just accept, every child has to prepare for.
When I was in high-school, someone posted to social media that they were planning to bring weapons to school, and that they had a list of student's names. Had they been successful the media would have probably cited bullying as the cause. But the list was not of students who had bullied them. It was a list of students who were Jewish, of students who were black, of students who were openly LGBT+. This person did not want to kill out of revenge for mistreatment, they wanted to because of the racism ingrained throughout this country. Because of the unchecked and growing fascism and neo-nazism that plagues us. They ended up being suspended for a period of time before being allowed to return back to school as if nothing had happened, and those of us who were targets just had to accept that it was ok, and these are things that happen.
The people in power do nothing to stop it. They do nothing to try and prevent the ideologies that lead to it, some of them even encourage it. We are told how to respond, we are told of those who were lost, we are told to praise them for their bravery. We are never told what, if anything, is being done to keep it from happening again. We stand by and watch, children powerless to do anything, begging and pleading for those that can to do something. They do not.
I am angry. I have been out of school for years now, as someone who is almost 23, but I carry this trauma with me. I cannot imagine the weight of the trauma of the students who had to live through it and not just the what if. I am angry. We are expected to just be ok with this, as politicians stand by more focused on finaces. As police stand by and propagate more violence in schools than they prevent. As healthcare becomes more and more inaccessible. As the military is sent to other countries in search of profit. As the news speaks of how terrible these countries are- look at what happened to their students! To their children! While they ignore the fact that it was caused by the US and their military presence. While they say there's nothing that could have been done to prevent the same stories from happening here at home.
I am angry. But I am also tired. I still feel powerless in the face of an institution who continues to announce that it does not care about us, it only cares about the money it can make off of us. An institution that profits off of the same racism and antisemitism and homophobia and transphobia and ableism that is directly responsible for creating this violence.
I am angry. And I am tired. And I'm sure those of you who lived this with me are too. But we need to remember that though we may feel powerless we are not. You can do a lot as an individual, and even more as a group. Be active in your communities, volunteer if you can, donate if you can, protest if you can, support however you are able. Do not let the fear paralyze you. Regardless of your experiences, whether you lived this or did not, we are not powerless, and we need to create the change that we want to see.

lead balloon (the tumblr post that saved me)
if this comic resonated with you, it would mean the world to me if you donated to this palestinian family's escape fund.
--
no creative notes because this isn't that kind of comic.
I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.
I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.
If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.
