would steve ever insist that eddie comes to basketball games with him just so they have an excuse to get those good seats right at the court that famous people and celebrities usually get?
Eddie is not Steve’s go-to person if he wants basketball tickets.
He goes to Lucas because every doctor knows a doctor that knows someone with season tickets they never use. And also, Steve kinda wants to go to the game with someone who, you know, will actually enjoy being there.
Eddie’s undying hatred of all things sports is, well…undying.
But Steve’s been a Pacers’ fan since the first time his dad shoved a basketball in his hands and taught him how to shoot. He has watched them lose in the playoffs every year that they make it to it, but he’s convinced. 2014 was going to be different.
He just can’t get tickets. He spent all day trying to buy them online and failed, and all the resale tickets are for seats that suck or way over his paygrade. Him and Eddie pay for their own hobbies out of their separate bank accounts, and Steve can’t afford the absolutely ridiculous price that’s being asked so…
“Please?” Steve asked, big puppy eyes and adorable little pout. He knew what he was doing and so did Eddie. “Pretty please? I never ask you for anything, Ed…Okay, fine, except for all the stuff I ask you for, but this is different. It’s a small price to pay to see my team win.”
“Your team that has literally never won in the history of all time?”
“How many championships does Leg-less the loser elf have?” Steve asked.
“…It’s Legolas,” Eddie said. “And he was a part of the fellowship that kinda saved the world.”
“So was I,” Steve pointed out. “And I deserve this.”
Steve didn’t ask for courtside seats. He didn’t ask to be sat among the rich and famous. Hell, he didn’t even ask Eddie to go with him. He just wanted to see if Eddie had a connection that could get him a ticket for a seat that wasn’t in the nosebleeds.
Steve doesn’t really believe that the tickets Eddie showed him are real until they are sitting in their seats – their seats that are courtside and five feet away from Paul George warming up. Steve is so excited to be there that he pretty much misses Eddie shaking someone’s hand right in front of him until he’s nudged in the shoulder, “Babe, you know, Sandy, right?”
“Yeah, totally,” Steve says absently, sparing a glance in the direction Eddie was gesturing before looking back out at the court. It takes him a second for his brain to register who he was just looking at and then, “Holy shit, you’re Sandra Bullock.”
She is just as beautiful and as nice as Steve has always thought she was, and she’s amused by him which makes Steve blush. She holds out her hand to him, “And you are…”
“I’m…” Steve trails off, only picking back up his train of thought when Eddie laughs loudly beside him. “Steve. I’m Steve. Uh, Harrington. Eddie’s – I’m – we’re together, by law.”
“We’re married,” Eddie grinned, throwing his arm over Steve’s shoulder, and wiggling his wedding ring at her. “Still working on how to tell people, obviously.”
She congratulates them and talks to them a bit about the game (bring Steve out of his starstruck stupor), and even buys them champagne as a late little wedding gift. It’s a blast.
Eddie spends half the game flinching every time the ball bounces a little too close or a player nearly ends up in their lap, but Steve is loving all of it. The other half of the time, Eddie is having Steve explain what’s going on and who the players are, or he’s talking to the guy next to him.
It’s some square jawed model type that Steve doesn’t recognize and also, doesn’t like. He’s a little too friendly with his husband, especially when he curled a piece of Eddie’s hair around his finger. When the two of them end up on the kiss cam together, Eddie doesn’t even get a chance to register it before Steve pulls him nearly out of the camera frame and kisses him.
Later, fans will make jokes about the pictures of that night because it’s very clear that Steve and Eddie switched seats.

A/N: This idea came to mind and I just took off with it, so I hope you enjoy the torture as much as I enjoyed writing it. This is also my submission for KVanity's Wanderlust Festival. I used ferris wheel (smut) and a slight mention of pumpkin patch (set in a small town). ~Bee
Tumblr media
The crisp air and the sound of crunchy leaves accompanied you as you made your way home from the office. You didn’t mind, autumn was your favorite time of year and you loved to be engulfed in all things fall-like. It just so happened that your birthday was in a few days, so it felt like the season and all things spooky were a personal birthday present from the universe.
You inhaled the musky scent of the leaf piles that lined the sidewalk leading up to your house. Your boyfriend must have spent the afternoon raking them all up so they didn’t cover the entirety of your yard. You walked in the door to your shared home and were soon welcomed home by him. “Hi love, did you have a good day at work?” Jeonghan asked, walking from where he was in the kitchen to place a kiss on your cheek.
“It was okay but of course, I spent most of the day looking forward to going to the fall festival with you,” you said, depositing your coat on the hooks near the door.
“I’m sure you were. You look forward to us going to it every year and I like taking you every year.” Jeonghan smiled at you, taking enjoyment in how you turned childlike during this time of year.
“Let me change out of my work clothes and into something more appropriate for the festival, then we can get going, okay?” You made your way down the hall and to the bedroom to change. Shedding your professional work clothes, you pulled a sweater, jeans, and some of your favorite boots from your closet. After you had put the new outfit on, you went to sit on the edge of the bed to put your boots on when you noticed a small box in the center of the bed.
“Jeonghan, what’s this?” you asked, picking up the box and setting it in your lap.
He came into the bedroom, a smirk on his face. “An early birthday present, something to make tonight more fun,” he answered, wagging an eyebrow. He sat next to you on the bed. “Open it.”
You took the top off the box and moved the tissue paper to reveal two small blue items, a bullet vibrator and its remote. You gasped, “Jeonghan.” Your boyfriend was very incorrigible, especially when it came to your sex life.
“Go place this in that gorgeous pussy of yours and then we can get going,” he said, the smirk from a few minutes ago gracing his handsome face once again. You gave him what you hoped was a sultry glance before taking yourself into the bathroom to put the vibrator inside yourself. This was new for you, but you were always willing to try new things with Jeonghan.
You came back out of the bathroom, handing the tiny remote to him. He pocketed it with a mischievous wink. “We should go then,” you giggled, pulling him by the arm and bringing him with you toward the front door. You both put on jackets and scarves and headed to the fall festival.
Tumblr media
You walked hand in hand across the large parking lot after Jeonghan parked the car. You heard the familiar sounds of carnival rides going and the screeches of joy from the people riding them. The yummy smells of hot apple cider and funnel cakes greeted you as you approached the ticket booths at the entrance to the festival. Jeonghan left your side for a moment to buy the tickets that would allow your admittance into the carnival.
His hand resumed its place in yours and he handed the tickets to the person taking them at the front, letting you into the fall festivity. “So, where would you like to go first?” Jeonghan asked you. You paused to take in all the different things going on and thought for a minute. Just then, an open-back trailer filled with hay bails passed by, and you made your decision.
“Let’s go on the hay ride first,” you told him, pulling him across the courtyard to where you were supposed to line up for it. He just shook his head in amusement at how childlike you could act sometimes. The stand for hot spiced apple cider was near as well and Jeonghan bought you each a cup to enjoy while you were on the hay ride.
He handed you the cup and you inhaled the spicy, fruity liquid as the line moved up. You took a sip and sighed as the liquid warmed you from the inside out. A few seconds later, it was your turn to get into the trailer. Jeonghan got in first, holding his hand out to pull you into the back with him. He picked a spot toward the middle and you sat down on a makeshift seat made from a hay bail. You leaned into him, loving the comforting feeling of having him next to you.
The hay ride took a route through a pumpkin patch and you were enjoying the scenery while still sipping on your cider when something turned on between your legs causing you to choke on the drink you just took. Jeonghan let out a small laugh, patting your back a little as you coughed. You gave him a wide-eyed look as he continued to act none the wiser. You bit your lip, trying not to let out a moan at the feel of the vibrations on your clit.
Luckily enough, Jeonghan took pity on you and turned it off after a few minutes and before you had drawn blood from biting your lip too hard. You smacked him in the arm after you had gotten off the hay ride, getting nothing in response except what you could only describe as an evil grin. “I’ll win you a plushie to make up for it,” he sang out, eyeing the alley of games that were ahead of you.
You rolled your eyes but agreed as you followed him to a booth where one could win a rabbit plushie by popping a balloon with water before the others did. Honestly, Jeonghan was good at these types of games and you had no doubt that he would win the stuffed animal for you. You watched him take his stance with the water gun and the starting bell went off. He lined the stream of the water gun just right to blow the balloon up. A few minutes later, his balloon popped before any of his opponents were even close.
The game attendant held out the stuffed rabbit and Jeonghan indicated for you to grab it from him. You reached to grab it when another vibration started, causing your legs to tremble beneath you. “You okay, lady? You look a little pale,” the attendant said, releasing the plushie to you.
“Oh, yeah. I’m fine,” you answered with clenched teeth. You wanted to curse Jeonghan, but he’d like that too much. Instead, you sent him a withering stare, which earned you more intense vibrations that caused you to clench around the little device inside you. You could barely keep yourself standing up straight when decided to stop it.
“Ready for a snack, love?” Jeonghan asked you, innocently
“Oh, I’m ready for a snack, alright,” you snipped at him, stalking off toward the concessions area. He let out a chuckle as he trailed behind you. He left the remote in his pocket as you ate the corn on the cob and the cinnamon sugar donuts you picked out for you to share.
“Time for the Ferris wheel?” you asked, hoping you had escaped another round of torture.
“Anything for you,” Jeonghan responded, using his thumb to brush sugar from the corner of your mouth.
Tumblr media
You sat back in the gondola of the Ferris wheel when the now familiar vibrations started once more. Your thighs clenched and you white-knuckled the edge of your seat, your grip becoming tighter the higher up Jeonghan turned the vibrator. “You’re the devil,” you managed to whine out.
Jeonghan sat across from you, that signature smirk on his face. “I’m an angel, and I’ll prove it to you when we get back home if you continue to be a good girl,” he said, leaning forward to kiss you before his eyes turned dark and he turned the vibrator up as far as it would go. Tremors crept up your thighs and sent a jolt straight to your core.
It was a good thing the gondola you two were in was at the top of the wheel after it had rotated for a little while and you were free to let out a moan. You were positive that your underwear was becoming more soaked by the minute, but you were doing your very best to hold back from having an orgasm on this ride. You would not let Jeonghan have that satisfaction, especially after claiming he was an angel.
The ride started moving once more, bringing you closer to the ground. Jeonghan, who looked very smug, finally turned the vibrator off as you approached the bottom. When the gondola snapped back into place at the end so you could get out, you leaped off the seat and nearly flung yourself out of the capsule. As you were walking down the pathway at the end of the ride, you whipped around causing Jeonghan to freeze in place. “You just wait until we get back home, mister,” you practically growled.
Tumblr media
You had barely gotten in the door back at the house before you attacked Jeonghan, pinning him against the wall. “Ready to prove to me that you’re an angel like you claim?” you asked, darkly before kissing a sensitive spot on his collarbone.
“Absolutely,” he responded, cheekily and grabbed your chin to move your face back up to look at him. He captured your mouth with his, engaging in a heated make-out session as he led you to the bedroom.
The back of your legs hit the bottom of the bed. You were so caught up with kissing Jeonghan that you didn’t realize you’d be led that far already. He lightly pushed you back so that you laid back on the comforter and you eagerly scooted further up, getting comfortable. He helped you out by pulling your boots off, freeing your feet, and then he tugged at the legs of your pants.
You nodded, giving him the go-ahead to rid you of those pesky pants. He didn’t waste any time, peeling them down your body and pulling them off at the ankles. “Somebody got so wet for me..” Jeonghan murmured, running a finger through the moist spot on your panties. You gasped at the feeling before he hooked his finger in the lining and pulled them down your legs too.
You stared down at Jeonghan as he placed himself at your core, your eyes filled with need after he tortured you all evening. His warm breath on you made the anticipation that much worse. “Please,” you whined.
“Please, what?” he bated.
“Need your mouth.” You almost begged. He chuckled before leaning forward to suck at your bud lightly, causing you to arch your back off the bed. You could feel the corners of his lips turn up at your reaction. He then started alternating between sucking and licking strips in your folds, creating a rhythm that had moans leaving your mouth. He delved his wet muscle into your pussy and you felt the coil in your belly start to tighten, your hands starting to claw at the comforter.
If Jeonghan was continuing his dirty talk, you couldn’t hear him over the static of your high that kept building. A few more harder sucks and the coil snapped. Your toes curled slightly and your hand tugged at the ends of Jeonghan’s hair as your orgasm crashed over you. “Fuck, Jeonghan..” you cried out.
Jeonghan’s smile was a content one this time as he leaned his chin on your stomach, his lips shiny with your release. You brushed your hands through his hair more tenderly now as you caught your breath. “See, told you I’m an angel,” he said and this time, you couldn’t disagree.

Return to Death Valley
Joe Burrow x Reader
Warnings: Some adult language, mention of past abusive relationship, mature themes, mention of nudity, and implied smut. (I think that is all, I’m sorry if I missed anything!)
Description: When Joe Burrow arrived at LSU he met the girl of his dreams but after he graduated they went their separate ways. However, when Joe returned on campus for the annual football spring game he does come face to face with that girl again. Will they reconnect? Find out in Return to Death Valley!
Author’s Note: First of all I just want to apologize for the big delay. I was originally going to post this Saturday but after I came back from coaching I didn’t really want to do anything since my foot was killing me for some reason. Then I was going to post on Sunday but Saturday night something came up last minuet! So, again I am so sorry for the delay! This will probably be my last writing for awhile. I know I promised I would post a special birthday one shot on my birthday which is next Monday but that won’t be happening since I’m not going to be able to write and type the one shot by next week. Also on my birthday I will be attending the Orioles game which I am very excited about! Anyways I don’t know how many people read this but thank you so much for your patience and I hope you enjoy the one shot!

It was springtime which meant LSU is having their yearly spring game. Joe and Ja’Marr decided to buy plane tickets to Baton Rouge and watch how the 2022 LSU tigers are going to look. Many other former LSU national champions decided to tag along with the Bengal teammates. Joe and Ja’Marr asked Thaddeus if he wants to tag along and he of course agreed so the three of them took a plane from Cincinnati while Clyde, Justin, and Derek are meeting them there. Even though Joe doesn’t play on the same team as Clyde, Justin, and Derek, he still stays in good contact with them since they weren’t just his college teammates, they were also his best friends! The men are happy and excited to reunite at a place that is filled with so many incredible memories. However, Joe is a bit anxious that he might run into a familiar face that he hasn’t seen since he won the national championship. He doesn’t know why he feels nervous seeing her. Y/N Y/L/N, the girl who had Joe on his knees. Joe met Y/N his senior year. He met her through Justin since Justin and Y/N grew up together in Louisiana and go way back. Joe remembers the day he met Y/N like it was yesterday. Y/N was at all the games since she was interning for ESPN for her major in broadcasting, so she was cover LSU since that’s the college she attends. Joe immediately fell for the girl. Anytime Joe was free, or Y/N was free they were together. They spent many nights together whether they went out or stayed in. However, they never went exclusive. No matter how much they liked each other, they knew when the football season was over, they would be going their separate ways. They tried so hard to not get attached to one another but when Joe left to go back to Ohio, it was heart wrenching for the both of them. Joe would love to see Y/N but then again, he knows the goodbye is just going to be a repeat.
Joe just arrived at Tiger Stadium with the guys and so many flashbacks came flooding into his brain. Joe was in the locker with the guys. They were all talking besides Joe because every time someone walked by the doors he would look there. Every time Joe saw someone walk past the doors his heart rate would speed up. He doesn’t know why he’s getting all jumpy about seeing her. Y/N might not even be in town since Justin did mention to him that she’s been traveling a lot the past year because of her job. After Y/N graduated from LSU she got hired by ESPN to be a reporter for college football. “C’mon boys, let’s hit the field like old times.” Clyde said and started to walk towards the tunnel. “Joe and I will meet you guys out there.” Justin told them which confused Joe. “What’s going on?” Joe asked him in with confusion. “You’re wondering if Y/N is here, aren’t you?” Justin asked as he folded his arms over his chest with sly smirk on his face. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Joe said looking everywhere but his friends face. “Don’t lie to me.” Justin told him with a stern look on his face. “I just really want to see her.” Joe told him with a sigh. “Don’t worry Joe, I’m sure she’ll pop up somewhere.” Justin told him with a wink and made his way to the tunnel. Joe’s lips turned into a smirk. By just hearing Justin say that his chance seeing Y/N just doubled.
  The 2022 LSU spring game has just been kicked off. Joe has been hanging out on the sideline watching. As he’s been watching he’s been chatting with some old faces and new faces. He’s been talking with the coaches that were there when he was but he also talking with the new coaches that have just been hired. A lot has changed in just a couple of years which is a bit crazy to him. Of course, Joe as been talking with the new head coach that was hired at the end of the last season. Joe and all other guys were saddening and a bit angry about the firing of Coach O, but they couldn’t take it out on the new coach. Also, the new coach is a great guy and seems to be getting along with the players very nicely. However, Joe couldn’t lie. It felt strange being on the Death Valley field without Coach O. Joe has also talking with the quarterbacks since they are very huge fans of him and look up to him. Joe is pretty much royalty in Bouton Rouge which isn’t a surprise. Joe gave the quarterbacks a lot of advice which they appreciated very much. After Joe finished talking with the quarterbacks he started talking with Clyde. “Hey boys.” Both boys heard a familiar voice call out to them. When Joe turned around his eyes lit up because there she was. There is the girl he’s been wanting to see since he stepped off that plane. “Long time no see.” Y/N said with a big smile on her face. “Hey Y/N.” Clyde said with a smile as he gave her a hug which she of course returned. “Hey.” Joe said in a shy tone which made him curse at himself. “What? You too shy to give me a hug?” Y/N asked in a teasing tone. “Oh, ha-ha, come here.” Joe said bringing her into a hug. Y/N giggled as she returned the hug. She missed teasing him. “Wow, you both look amazing. I almost didn’t recognize you two.” Y/N said after letting go of Joe. “Y/N, come on we have to get back to work!” Her camera man called out to her which made her groan. “Alright I’ll be right there!” Y/N called back out to him with annoyance in her tone. “I got to get back, but I hope to see you boys around.” Y/N told them with a small smile. Before Y/N walked away she tapped Joe on the ass which shocked him. Joe watched her walk away with wide eyes. “Did she just tap me on my ass?” Joe asked turning back to Clyde who had an amusing smile on his face. “Damn, it really does feel like old times.” Clyde told him.
 After the game was over Joe and Ja’Marr stayed at the stadium to talk to some more people. The sun has now set over Death Valley. Joe was just about to leave with Ja’Marr to go back to the hotel, but Joe had to use the restroom, so he told Ja’Marr he’ll meet him outside. After Joe was done, he started to make his way outside but stopped dead in his tracks when he heard a sweet voice call his name. “Y/N, I thought you would’ve been gone by now.” Joe said turning around to face her. “Same with you.” Y/N said as she walked closer to him. “I had to do interviews with the coach and a couple of players.” Y/N told him. “Oh yeah, that makes sense.” Joe said with a nod still sounding nervous which really was getting on his nerves. “Since you’re still here, do you want to go sit on the field together? Just like old times.” Y/N asked in a curious tone. “Yeah, that sounds fun.” Joe told her with a smile which made her smile. “Let me go tell Ja’Marr to head back to the hotel. I’ll be right back.” Joe told her with a wink and walked away. Y/N’s cheeks turned a bright red as she watched him.
 Y/N and Joe were sitting in the middle of the field together. “What’s been going on Mr. Burrow? I mean off the field of course.” Y/N said to him. “To be honest, not much.” Joe told her. “Seriously, nothing?” Y/N said sounding a bit surprised. “Besides my knee injury, yeah nothing.” Joe told her with a sigh. “Damn Joey, you got boring.” Y/N told him with a teasing smile which made him playfully roll his eyes. “Alright, enough about my boring life. What about you?” Joe said which made her giggle. “All I’m going to tell you is that I’m a lot happier this year then this time last year.” Y/N told him as she looked away from him which quickly concerned him. “What do you mean?” Joe asked her. “Justin told me you have been doing great with broadcasting.” Joe added. “It had nothing to do with my job.” Y/N told him as she fiddled with her fingers. “It’s okay Y/N. You can tell me.” Joe told her as he put one of his hands onto her knee and rubbed it gently. “I was in a relationship with this guy, and he abused me towards the end of the relationship.” Y/N told him as she stared down at her hands and tried to keep her eyes from tearing up. Joe’s heart broke when those words came out of her mouth. How could someone lay their hands on her like that. It’s makes Joe’s blood boil at just the thought of it. “What a sick mother fucker.” Joe said in a hiss. “Don’t worry Joey, that sick mother fucker is rotting in prison.” Y/N reassured him as she put her hand on top of his that was still resting on her knee. When she looked back up at him their eyes locked. “Good, that’s where people like him belong.” Joe told her. “What about you? What’s been your relationship status?” Y/N asked him to change the subject off her. “I’ve just had a couple of flings, but they never lasted longer than a month.” Joe told her which shocked her. “Seriously? How come? I mean look at you! What do those bitches not see in you?” Y/N asked many questions which made Joe let out a laugh. “I’m the one that broke up with them.” Joe told her. “Oh, do you mind telling me why?” Y/N asked as she scooted closer to him. “I guess it's because those girls weren’t you.” Joe answered as he stared deep into her beautiful eyes. Y/N leaned in and placed her lips onto his soft lips. Joe immediately kissed her back. As they kissed it was like all the memories of them together swarmed their minds. They both felt the kiss getting heated, so Y/N pulled away and got up onto her feet. “C’mon.” Y/N said putting her hand out for him to take. “Where are we going?” Joe asked taking her hand as he stood up. “My place. We got more catching up to do.” Y/N told him with a smirk. Joe knew exactly what she was referring to which turned him on. “Oh, so you don’t want me to fuck you on the football field?” Joe said with a smirk as he pulled her body up against his. “I wouldn’t let you fuck me on the field in college so what makes you think I would let you do it now?” Y/N said with a stern look on her face. “Alright, lead the way sexy thing.” Joe said defeated and gave her a kiss on the lips. Y/N let out a giggle and started to walk out of the stadium with Joe.
 ~~~~~~~~~~
It was the next morning and Joe woke up to the feeling of kisses on his neck. When he opened his eyes, they met Y/N’s eyes. “Well good morning to you.” Joe said as he pulled Y/N on top of him. Y/N giggled and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. “I can’t believe I forgot how much I love waking up next to you.” Y/N said as she rested her forehead against his. “Same here beautiful.” Joe told her giving her a kiss on the lips and then rubbed his hands up and down her bare back. “Were we stupid for doing this?” Y/N asked him. “Stupid for having amazing sex?” Joe asked with a smirk on his face. Y/N hit Joe on the shoulder. “Ouch! What was that for?” Joe asked with a whine. “I’m being serious Joe! I mean we both know that when you get on that plane to go back to Ohio, we basically will be strangers again.” Y/N told him with frustration in her tone. “Well, I think this time will be different.” Joe told her. “What do you mean?” Y/N asked him with confusion in her tone. “When we graduated, we had no idea what our future was going to look like but now we do. I’m a professional football player and you’re a reporter that covers football.” Joe told her as he continued to rub his hands up and down her back softly. “But we live in different states.” Y/N reminded him. “But we also travel a lot.” Joe told her. “Yeah, that’s true.” Y/N agreed as she rubbed his bare chest with one of her hands. “When we aren’t in the same city we can chat by text, phone call, and facetime. Whatever you want.” Joe told her and rested his forehead against hers. “I’d love that.” Y/N told him with a big smile on her face. “Me too.” Joe told her and gave her a long kiss on the lips. “What time do you have to be at the airport?” Y/N asked once they pulled away from the steamy kiss. “Two, which means…” Joe trailed off. He picked her up and flipped her over so that he was the one on top which made her let out a squeak. Joe stared down at her with lust as he made sure he didn’t crush her with his big body. “We got time for two more rounds.” Joe told her with that smirk that always turns her on. “Then give it to me Burrow.” Y/N said bringing him down so their lips could connect.
 Y/N decided to go to the airport with the boys and say goodbye to them. After said goodbye to Ja’Marr and Thaddeus, Joe told them to board the plane since he needed a couple of minuets alone with Y/N. “I’m going to miss you.” Y/N told him. “I’m going to miss you too, but I promise I’ll call you right when I get back to Cincy.” Joe told her with a comforting smile. “And I’ll be waiting.” Y/N told him with a smile as well. Joe brought her in close and gave her a passionate kiss on the lips which sent the butterflies in her stomach into a frenzy. When they released from the kiss, they rested their forehead against one another. “I love you.” Joe told her as he put one of his hands onto her cheek and stroked it gently. “I love you too, Joey.” Y/N told him and leaned up on her tippy toes to give him another passionate kiss. They have been waiting so long to say to those three words to each other and it felt so good to finally say it to each other out loud. “I’ll talk to you later.” Joe said letting her go even though he really didn’t want to. “Okay, be careful.” Y/N told him. “I will, beautiful.” Joe reassured with a wink. He gave her one last kiss and then walked away to board the plane. Both of them couldn’t wait to see each other again.
A Carmen Berzatto Universe
I have a request in my inbox I’m working on, but feel free to send over more :)
Vanessa Monaghan is the breath of fresh air that Carmen had been gasping for.
Page 12: Patrick Kane
“I’m so excited!” Vanessa bounced in her shoes as they made their way toward the doors of the United Center. She’d snagged her dad’s tickets for the night to watch the Blackhawks take on the San Jose Sharks.
It had been years since Carmen had been to a Blackhawks game – with the restaurant’s new format, they were officially closed on Sundays, which meant more time to do different things.
He was a little surprised to see Vanessa unearth a handful of jersey options, several players over several years of styles, from the back of her closet.
He’d catch her watching a game from time to time on TV or if it was playing at a bar they were at, but he didn’t realize she was that big of a fan. He’d borrowed a Hawks hat, but wore his own black crewneck.
“Baby, want a beer?” He offered, stepping up to the vendor.
“Carm, come on, we get beers in our seats,” she said, lacing her fingers back through his.
“Must be nice,” he muttered, stepping in front of her to help clear the way through the throngs of people. “Hawks suck this season, how are there so many people here?” He asked himself.
Vanessa pulled Carmen into the elevator for the club level and they scanned their phones again.
“I know I should have asked some other friends to come,” she explained, walking down the hall toward center ice, “but I kinda wanted you all to myself for the night, and I can grab these tickets again later in the season,” she explained.
Carmen nodded along, checking out the displays in the hallway before they stopped in front of a suite, an attendant holding the door for them.
“Welcome back, Miss Monaghan,” the man greeted.
“Hi Jerry!” She smiled happily, “it’s been forever, how was your off-season?” Carmen stuck his head in the suite. Upscale finishes, a stocked beef fridge and dinner menus laid out on the granite island. There were 12 wide leather seats and a framed jersey on the wall with MONAGHAN on the back, signed by what looked like the whole team.
“Vanessa what the fuck,” Carmen laughed, eyes wide. “Look at this place,” he gestured, “all this just for us?”
“Dad loves the Hawks,” she laughed, walking over the beer fridge, grabbing one for both her and Carm. “He actually put in a bid to become a limited partner last season, but the league has to approve it.”
“Limited partner?” Carmen asked, popping the cap of his beer with the opener built into the island.
“Minority owner,” Vanessa translated. “He’ll find out next season if he can buy in.”
Carmen’s eyebrows were raised as he took a long pull.
“I know, I know,” Vanessa crossed the island to press herself against him. “Can we not make it weird?” She asked.
“No weirdness at all, but you are officially not allowed to be around Richie unattended,” Carmen replied, “he’s not allowed around your dad, either.” Vanessa tugged him over to the seats, snagging a dinner menu on her way before settling him in a chair and subsequently settled herself in his lap. Carmen wrapped his arms around her before resting his chin on her shoulder as they went through their options together.
Vanessa put in their order and shuffled back to their seats just before the national anthem.
Carmen grinned, watching as Vanessa sang along loudly with the crowd, cheering her way through the lineups.
When the puck dropped, he watched his girlfriend turn into an entirely different person.
“SKATE! DON’T PASS, JUST SKATE IT!” She screamed at the ice, pointing down to the net. “Right to the FIVE HOLE? You had all day and the whole net and you shot FIVE HOLE?” She threw her hands up in the air. “Useless,” she shook her head, looking at Carmen.
“Baby you know they can’t hear you, right?” Carmen asked.
“I can’t help it,” Vanessa shrugged, “it just comes out.”
With two minutes left in the first period, Patrick Kane found the back of the Shark’s net and Vanessa launched out of her seat, dancing along to Chelsea Dagger. She pumped her arms, reaching over and doing the same with Carmen’s arms.
When dinner arrived at the close of the period, they ate around the kitchen island, cracking into another beer.
“S’not as good as yours,” Vanessa took a giant bite of her shredded beef sandwich, “but it’s okay.”
“It’s pretty good!” Carmen said with surprise. “Fries need some help, but this isn’t bad,” he agreed.
“Should we take a bet on final score?” Vanessa asked, taking another big bite.
“What’s the wager?” He asked, plucking up a fry and popping it into his mouth.
“Umm,” Vanessa pondered, swinging her legs from the high-top chairs. “It’s a good question,” wiping her hands off on her napkins, she crawled into his lap on his chair, utilizing the footrests of his seat. “It’s hard to think of something I want because you give me everything I need,” she said, kissing his cheek. Carmen blushed bright red, matching the red of her jersey.
They’d been together over a year and Vanessa had seriously never been happier.
“I love everything we do together – even when we’re putting the duvet cover on, or running the trash to the dumpster room,” she grinned.
“I fuckin’ hate that duvet cover,” Carmen laughed, kissing her gently.
“Or cleaning the dishwasher filter,” she listed of, “and folding laundry, I love folding up your little tighty whities,” she squealed as he nipped at her sides.
“If you’d stop stealing them…” he trailed off. The music amped up again and Vanessa launched herself off of his lap, running back to the seats. Carmen held his hands out, half-cocked in his jeans as she left him high and dry.
“KAAANER!” She waved her arms excitedly, “I won’t lie baby, I love that man,” she admitted, plopping herself down in his lap. With one hand entangled in his hair where it poked out from his hat, and the other holding his hand on her thigh, her mind began to whirl. “Now that I think about it,” she glanced back and forth from the jumbotron where Patrick Kane’s headshot was displayed.
“What?” Carmen asked, looking up himself.
“Curly hair, blue eyes…” Vanessa gasped. “I’m a fraud! I’ve fetishized you for looking like Patrick Kane!” Carmen rolled his eyes.
“I do not look like Patrick Kane,” he squeezed her thigh hard.
“I see it babe, we’ll have to get you in the same room to be sure,” she laughed, tucking her head to peck his lips. “But if we were all in the same room… could you just like chill on calling me babe and holding my hand? Don’t want him to think I’m tied down.” She rattled off, causing his eyebrows to rise.
“Oh you don’t think you’re tied down?” Carmen asked, pulling his head back to look her over, hands suddenly moving to all her soft spots and pinching softly. She contorted in his lap, giggling her head off as he continued his assault, “You don’t think you’re tied down?” He continued.
“Carm!” She squealed, drawing the attention of fans in the neighboring sweets.
“When we got home tonight, I’m gonna show you tied down,” he huffed in her ear.
“Yeah?” She gasped back, hands holding his jaw.
“Gonna make you cum on my face and wear it like goddamn cologne,” he murmured in her ear, sliding his hand up the back of her jean-clad thigh.
“Carmen Silvio!” She scolded, “that mouth!”
“You love my mouth,” he countered, slapping her ass and kissing her firmly. “Because after that, I’m gonna bend you over our bed and fuck you till you see stars, huh?” He taunted. He noticed the way she adjusted in his lap.
“Promise?” She asked, her doe eyes blinking up at him innocently.
“There a bathroom in here?” Carmen twisted his neck, looking back at the room behind them. “Damn, this much money and still not a place I can fuck you,” He mumbled.
“I’ll have Dad write an email,” Vanessa laughed, standing up and hopping up the few stairs. “Beer?” She offered, to which Carmen nodded. Vanessa popped the tops off of both, heading back to her seats when she was caught by the fan cam.
“Nessa!” Carmen pointed out with a laugh, showing her on the jumbotron. Vanessa gaped before jumping excitedly, raising her drinks before taking a knee and downing a beer as fast as she could, the arena cheering loudly. She considered drinking Carmen’s, too, but the camera cut away and she was saved.
Dropping back into her seat beside Carmen, she draped her legs over his lap and handed him his beer.
“That was so cool!” He laughed, immediately tucking his hand between her thighs and taking a pull of his own drink.
“I know but now I’m tipsy and horny,” Vanessa laughed. “Still gonna bend me over when we get home?” She asked innocently enough, to which Carmen laughed.
“Of course, baby,” he agreed.
“Will you wear a Patrick Kane jersey?”
Chapter Eleven: Welcome to Starcourt
Summary: You learn some disheartening news about Eddie, and when you go to Steve for advice, you find his new coworker Robin instead. (Eddie Munson x Fem!Reader, 2.2k words)
Warnings: Mentions of eating.
A/N: Okay, this is also about Eddie, but I also had to introduce the reader to Robin since we’re now entering season 3 territory. She deserves her own chapter lol.
June 14th, 1985
After graduation, you and Steve each got the jobs you were planning to get at the new mall. When your shifts aligned, Steve offered to drive you to and from work, but on days where you didn’t have to go in between Melvald’s and Starcourt, you took the bus. Your parents were generous enough not to kick you out of their house, but you weren’t on speaking terms and you certainly didn’t feel comfortable asking to borrow their car. You kept it in the back of your mind that the most likely reason they were actually letting you stay was so they could keep tabs on you. If you asked to borrow the car, then they would always know where you were. You couldn’t have that.
This particular Friday morning, Steve was able to drive you to work and you spent your entire day at the theater. It was pretty dead until the evening when it got so crowded that you started to get a migraine from how fast you had to move to keep up. When the initial rush subsided and most everyone was seated in their theaters, you took a moment to sit and sketch as you rubbed your temples. Your peace was short-lived, however, when you felt the figure of another customer approach your booth. You sighed and began your spiel without stopping your drawing.
“Hi, welcome to…”
You trailed off abruptly when you looked up to see a familiar face. It almost felt like you were seeing a ghost.
“Eddie.”
“Y/N. Hey. Did you quit your job at Melvald’s?”
“Uh, no. Just took this one on to make some extra cash. Don’t tell Mr. Melvald, though. The mall is kinda driving away all of his business. Not that you… talk to Mr. Melvald ever.”
“Actually, I have a hot date with him tonight, but don’t worry. I’ll be sure not to bring it up.”
You smiled politely at his joke, but couldn’t get past the confusion of seeing him again.
“Right. Well, uh, what movie are you planning to see?”
“The Stuff.”
“Interesting choice. You know it started, like, fifteen minutes ago, right?”
“Yeah, I know. I’m never on time for anything. It’s fine, though. I’m still waiting for somebody.”
You raised an eyebrow at this just as you were about to print his ticket.
“So… two tickets?”
“Yeah. Two.”
You nodded and looked back down to print his two tickets. You hoped to god he was only waiting for Wayne or one of his friends from Corroded Coffin.
“You… okay?” He asked, picking up on your attitude change.
You cleared your throat, trying to buy yourself time to think of another explanation. Then you realized there was still the mystery of why you hadn’t seen him at graduation.
“Yeah. I’m sorry. I’m just surprised to see you, I guess. I just assumed… that you would leave town after graduation.”
“Oh,” He chuckled sadly, looking down at the floor. “You’re right, I probably would have if I could. Uh, funny story, though. I didn’t actually… graduate. Again.”
You were shocked by the news, but tried to hide it. You could tell he felt ashamed by this.
“Oh. I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
“It’s okay, it’s my fault. Maybe next year, though, right? Third time’s the charm and all that.”
“I’m sure you’re right,” You said with a reassuring smile.
He smiled back, and then the two of you had your attention taken away from each other when someone came bounding in through the front of the theater.
“Hey, Eds! Sorry I’m late. Did you get our tickets yet?”
It was a girl. A pretty girl. Your heart dropped.
“It’s okay, I just got here, too. I’m getting the tickets now.”
They turned to you as you were still frozen in shock, then you shook your head to free your mind from your internal torment and handed over the tickets to Eddie silently.
“Thanks,” He said in response, and handed you some cash in exchange.
“Eddie, you don’t have to pay for me,” The girl tried to protest.
“I insist. My treat. You didn’t wanna see this movie, anyways.”
“Aw, you’re cute. Thank you,” She cooed and planted a kiss on his cheek.
You looked away quickly but the damage had been done. Your face burned red from the warring emotions inside yourself, and Eddie noticed.
“Uh, hey, this is Y/N by the way,” He said nervously, gesturing to you. He was trying to be polite. “We went to high school together. Y/N, this is Jo.”
“Nice to meet you,” You said quietly.
“You, too,” She replied cheerily. “Hey, tell me, what’s he like at school? I’m dying to know.”
She was nice. It made you hate her more.
“He’s, uh… charismatic. Very charismatic.”
You smiled sadly at Eddie, who smiled back at you with pursed lips.
“She’s just being nice. She really means that I’m a massive dork,” He joked, trying to lighten the mood.
“That sounds more accurate,” Jo giggled, then turned to Eddie. “Hey, we better go before we miss the entire movie.”
“Right. Thanks, Y/N. It was good to see you.”
“Good to see you, too. Hope you guys enjoy the movie.”
“I certainly won’t, but thank you. It was nice to meet you,” Jo replied, linking arms with Eddie and pulling him away towards the theater door.
“Nice to meet you, too,” You mumbled when they had already walked away.
You watched them until they closed the door behind themselves, hoping that Eddie would turn to look at you before he disappeared into the dark theater. He didn’t.
When your shift ended, you hightailed it out of the theater before you would have to face Eddie and Jo again, and made your way to Scoops Ahoy to find Steve. If he really was your romantic guide for the summer, then you were desperate for his advice. When you walked in, though, you didn’t see him. Instead, you found Robin Buckley, someone you had gone to school with but had never actually gotten the opportunity to speak to.
“Hey, Robin, right?” You asked her, unintentionally slamming your hands on the counter in a huff. She eyed you up and down inquisitively.
“Uh, yeah. Y/N, right?”
“Yes. Hi. Is Steve here?”
“He decided to take an unscheduled break and completely abandoned me here. The man is having a serious existential crisis.”
“Great,” You groaned. “That makes two of us, then. Can I just wait here until he gets back? I really need to talk to him.”
“Sure. But only if you buy something.”
“Seriously?” You asked with an eyebrow raised.
“Sorry, I don’t make the rules.”
“Fine. I’ll get a strawberry sundae then.”
“Good choice,” She mumbled, then grabbed a bowl to get started making it. After she handed it off to you, she moved the tip jar closer to you not so subtly. “For your consideration.”
You rolled your eyes and put a dollar in the jar.
“Much appreciated,” She said with a smirk, and you walked away to wait for Steve.
You sat in the nearly empty parlor for several minutes as you ate your ice cream sadly, resting your chin in your hand as you watched the melted bits of it slide off of your spoon over and over again. Then Robin sat in front of you abruptly and you straightened in your seat in surprise.
“Okay, you are seriously bumming me out, and clearly Steve is not going to be back for a while, so spill it. What’s wrong with you?”
“You want to hear about my problems?”
“If I can get that look off of your face, then yes. It’s like watching a puppy getting kicked over and over again,” She whined dramatically. “Please, put me out of my misery. I’m begging you.”
“It’s just… some guy. It’s stupid.”
“What did he do to you?” She asked with a groan and an eye roll.
“Nothing. He’s just… on a date with someone who isn’t me. “Jo.” Like she’s straight out of Little Women. You know that was my favorite book as a kid? I would kill to be Jo. Stupid Jo…” You rambled, pushing your ice cream away from you angrily.
Robin sighed and reached across the table to steal the remainder of it, shaking her head at you in disapproval as she ate a spoonful of it.
“You’re right. That is really stupid,” She said with her mouth full.
“Gee, thanks,” You scoffed.
“What? Gimme a break. You are a talented, beautiful woman with a fresh high school diploma. The world is your oyster, and you’re sitting here stuffing your face with ice cream, pouting about some guy that’s too dumb to see that? It’s a tragedy. I’m sick of seeing the women in this town making themselves smaller for complete losers.”
You leaned back in your chair, taken aback by this impassioned speech.
“Wow. Thank you? I didn’t think you’d have such a strong opinion about this.”
“Sorry. That may have been more about my own shit than yours,” She admitted, pushing the ice cream dish back towards you.
“It’s okay. You’re right. I just can’t help it. If you knew him, you’d understand. He’s much better than most of the other guys in this town.”
“I seriously doubt that, but okay,” She mumbled.
“It’s complicated. This is more my fault than his. I just can’t get out of my own way.”
“Well, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. You need to realize how great you are.”
“You don’t even know me,” You snorted.
“I know of you. I know enough to know that you are seriously undervaluing yourself right now.”
She sat back in her chair, crossing her arms matter-of-factly. You raised your eyebrow at her.
“Why are you being so aggressively kind to me?”
“I don’t know. It’s been a weird day. Having to work with Harrington has really thrown me for a loop.”
“He’s not that bad, you know. He’ll surprise you. You’ll see.”
“Well, I am very curious to know how the two of you ended up becoming so close.”
“I would tell you,” You chuckled, “But honestly, I’m not really sure of that myself.”
She nodded, then pursed her lips together as she came to a sudden realization.
“You know, I actually thought you two were a couple until this very moment. Maybe this guy you’re upset over just assumed Steve was your boyfriend, too.”
You almost disagreed with the ridiculousness of this, but the more you thought about it, the more it made sense.
“I… that’s actually a pretty good point. I never thought about it like that.”
“You’re welcome,” She said with a proud smile.
“So… what should I do then?”
“Beats me,” She shrugged, and reached to grab another spoonful of your ice cream. You couldn’t help letting out a boisterous laugh.
“Okay, well… thanks anyways.”
“Look, obviously I’m not good with this relationship stuff. But if you ever need to talk about anything that Steve wouldn’t understand - which I assume is actually most things - then you know where to find me. Just… don’t forget to tip,” She teased. The right side of her mouth was turned up in a half-smile, and you could tell she meant this.
“Thanks. And if you ever need to vent about Steve being an idiot, I’m working at the theater. Stop by anytime.”
“You know I will probably most definitely have to take you up on that.”
“I know,” You snickered. “Best of luck to you.”
You stood up to throw away your ice cream, and Robin pushed in your chairs.
“Should I let Steve know you stopped by?” She asked as you put your jacket on.
“Uh, sure. Thanks. Just tell him I won’t be needing a ride home, though, please. We can keep the romantic drama between the two of us. I think I got what I needed.”
“Really?” She asked, scrunching up her face in confusion.
“Yeah. I don’t know how he could top that pep talk, to be honest. Plus I don’t want to pile onto whatever crisis he’s currently going through.”
“Well, okay. If you’re sure. I’m glad I could be of assistance.”
“You really were. Thanks. I’m glad we finally actually got to meet.”
She seemed flustered by this, but also didn’t seem to disagree.
“Yeah. Me too.”
“Well, I’m sure I’ll see you around. Do me a favor? I know it might be difficult, but please try not to be too mean to Steve. Maybe just a little mean to keep him grounded, but not too mean. Promise?”
“Okay,” She chuckled. “Just a little mean. I promise.”
You nodded appreciatively and waved goodbye to her, then left to catch the last bus home. You listened to music on your Walkman the whole way and tried your best not to imagine what Eddie was doing on his date.
Something is rotten in the state of Manchester United.
It’s obvious to even the most casual observer that something is badly wrong within the team. Last season represented very satisfying progress: third in the league, winning a cup and getting to the final of another. It’s not upto the standards of the Fergie glory years, but it was a huge improvement on the dross of what has been seen since he finished.
How then has a team in a very promising state of development become so “bad” - almost overnight as it seems?
Obviously I do not attend training sessions, so I don’t have the answer. However, like all fans I am entitled to an opinion and I can clearly see the body language of certain players. My thoughts are therefore:
THE GLAZERS/ownership situation. The Glazers are the root of all the problems at Old Trafford, although my football correspondent would disagree. However, I think they are too far removed to be the immediate cause here.
INJURIES. Without question, the team has been very severely hit by injuries. Any team would suffer badly with this level of injuries. What doesn’t help is having ridiculously long, over rigorous pre-season tours all over the world. It also doesn’t help when we buy players who are already injured. However, a Manchester United team should play with pride and purpose whoever is injured: this one DOESN’T.
VAR - we were rather lucky when the penalty decision against Wolves went in our favour, but since then, every single VAR decision has been relentlessly against us. However, to blame VAR for all our ills would be childish.
RUSHFORD. Here we come to the crux of the problem. He received a very big new contract, and as soon as he received it, his play has gone back to the standards of the season before last. It is obvious just from looking at match photos that he really is NOT enjoying his job at the moment. The critics are piling on to him for being greedy, never passing the ball. The fans are calling for him to be dropped. He is clearly a very unhappy young man, and the malaise has obviously spread to the rest of the team.
A football team is like an office: if one person is miserable, they can become a “wet blanket” and this very soon effects the morale of the rest of the office/team. Something is wrong with Rushford, and until the manager sorts it out, I don’t think things will get better. My guess is that Rushford is NOT deliberately playing badly, he is NOT being deliberately greedy, he is NOT being deliberately moody: but SOMETHING is definitely wrong with him.
It could be literally anything, but my guess is that he is upset about how his friend Sancho is being treated. I’m afraid the only solution for this is for him to wake up and smell the coffee: Ten Hag was naive and unwise to have said what he did at the press conference, but Sancho should not have done what he did, and in my opinion he should not play for the club again. If this is indeed the reason for Rushford’s mood, then I think it would be best for all concerned if both of them were to leave the club.
Anyhow, there is confirmation of a sort for my theory. On Tuesday we played Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. A number of regular starters (on both sides) didn’t play. United played some keen youngsters, who did very well. On Saturday the regulars returned - and with what might be said to be predictable results.
My football correspondent was at the match and sends me his usual no holds barred honest account of the farrago.
hi - my mood was boosted on saturday morning as i had managed to obtain a ticket for next saturdays game v brentford which is another 3pm kick off
on the other hand watching united this season has not been particularly entertaining - last week they ground out a win at burnley thanks to some inspiration by bruno and the midweek 3 - 0 cup win was against palace's reserves
united had plenty of possession at the start but did little with it - build up was slow and palace seemed dangerous on the break as instanced by guehi heading wide from a promising position - after 25 minutes a couple of mistakes by united led to a free kick for palace on their right wing - eze swung it in and it travelled to the far edge of the box where the unmarked andersen smashed the ball into the net - for the 3rd home game in a row united had conceded the first goal - united responded with hojlund having a shot cleared off the line and casemiro firing just wide but they trailed at half time
2nd half united again monopolised possession without much effect - johnstone fisted over a bruno effort and parried a hojlund header - garnacho pulled a ball back from the byeline - it evaded united players and rolled across the 6 yard box - dalot crossed from the right and the ball was cleared underneath the bar at the far post - mount headed over - it sounds exciting but these were rare moments on a frustrating afternoon - by the end van de beek and maguire came on in a desperate move by ten hag but palace's doughty well organised defence held out for victory
so it is now 2 successive league defeats at home and 4 defeats out of 7 overall - a pretty bad start - performance wise it wasn't great - no one was that good - no one was that bad - all were just bang average - a pundit opined that the key to success against united is to let united have the ball because they don't know what to do with it - then counter attack united and there's every chance you'll nick a goal from a set piece or a united mistake
last season rashford got lots of goals and many times united won 2 - 0 or 2 - 1 - this year rashford has just the 1 goal - not all his fault but him and united don't seem the same - fans will hope united and rashford find form soon or it will be a very long season indeed
as you can imagine my mood was less than buoyant as i made my way home and the rain got heavier and heavier and ...........
bye
hi! this is not really a question buuuut I've just read three of your fics and I just wanted to congratulate you on your writing! I really really love your writing style.
I started with “It's Fine To Fake It 'Til You Make It ('Til It's True)” and I  loved the pace in that, I think Louis' characterization was done in a way that I hadn't really seen before and I found it so refreshing, the humour in this was so good and I just LOVED Harry&Louis&Vivi and Harry reconnecting with his siblings (and how much his siblings liked Louis!!), it was definitely very comforting, I loved it.
Then I read In The Name Of Being Honest, which I know is co-written but still, I really liked this one as well! I was hooked from the moment that we find out who Ben is (I was actually hooked from the beginning but that part left me shook right from the start), I loved Louis and Niall's friendship (I loved how supportive/protective/caring Niall was) and seeing Louis and Harry developing their relationship again was just so 💙💙💙💙💙 (speechless person), anyway I keep thinking back to it and it's been days and I still really want to go to Good Chives Only :(
But well yesterday I read write this down and I loved it so so so much! It's one of my favorite/top 5 fics I've read this year (it's also definitely a new all-time favorite). First of all I LOVE Taylor Swift and I am an evermore supremacy defender as well so to read something inspired by 'tis the damn season already had me excited about it (plus ALL the references throughout the story. the champagne problems one PHYSICALLY HURTED. i probably didn't catch all the references but I like to believe I caught most of them and it always made me smile). Second, I wish I had read this in winter because AAAA i loved loved the concept of "the winters", the chapters, the pov switch (this was literally so perfect. like. I don't think I've ever enjoyed dual pov as much as in this). I really liked Harry and Louis's relationship in this - sometimes it's really hard for me to enjoy when stories are spread throughout such a large period of time and we're supposed to believe that the characters remain in love with eachother BUT I definitely didn't felt like that AT ALL while reading this. I think that both of them cared so much about eachother and specially in the earlier chapters seeing how much they struggled to be honest and raw in sharing parts of their lives and then seeing a development from that (specially on Louis' side I think) was so so interesting.
I think that my favorite winter was the fourth because 1. I was really naive and I had no idea of what was going to happen next. 2. I think it works as a great way to show why/how they work, I love how they actually talk about their lives, I love THE ICE RINK SCENE GOD it's definitely one that is going to be engraved in my mind because AAA "I didn't buy a ticket back to LA" & how supportive Louis is of Harry's career and talent & "we could stay here together", and I love the chapter. It's just so good. 3. I HAVE to mention “Baby, if I’m abandoning society and disappearing off the face of the earth, I’m taking you with me.” // “I’d go with you in a heartbeat.”  i. i LOVE THEM SO MUCH. oh and also 4. THE PRESENTS. 5. THE LETTERS. 6. THE TEXTS. 7. THE ANGST. So good.
Anyway, I also loved the tweets, they worked as great interludes and they were often very funny. A few that made me laugh out loud were "hahaha yes, if i were leila i’d be thrilled that my bf took 10 years between each word when he was talking about his “girl” and how much she means to him." (from Chapter 7) and ""Y’all need to respect harry and leila” omg ok bestie i will if harry can even tell me her name." (from Chapter 9) - also loved all the tweets reacting the tis the damn season (& the names of the accounts I swear everything was so detailed in this fic AAAAA) and the whole ohioan lover truthers. So perfect.
Anyway I think I could talk about this fic endlessly and this is already gigantic (I'm sorry) but I think I'm going to stop here. I just wanted to show some support because I cherish fic writers SO MUCH and as you can probably guess I really liked your fics (in case this long ass ramble didn't show it) so I really thought I should say something about it because in my head it just makes sense that if a fic makes me as happy as these ones made me, I should just show my appreciation about it sooo this is me doing that.
I hope you're having a lovely day & I'm really looking forward to see what you'll write next.
(also, I'm going to start reading down the line sooo I might come back. who knows)
(also. if there are any grammar/spelling mistakes pls know that I'm sorry & ignore that. it's kinda late where I'm writing from and english is not my first language)
oh my god! hi hello! i read this lovely, perfect, absolutely gorgeous message a week or so ago, but didn't quite have the time to give it the love and attention it deserves, so i've held off on replying and now i am here to just.... SOB AND GUSH. HI. I LOVE YOU?????
thank you so much for taking the time to read my stories, and for being so kind. in my mind, in the name of being honest and it's fine to fake it 'til you make it are the chicago sisters and it makes me the absolute happiest to know you enjoyed them. writing both was such a special journey. those stories and the characters and their relationships (louis and niall in ITNOBH! harry and louis and vivi in Fake It! A true wonderful trio!) mean so much to me and i'm happy they could be of comfort to you, and that they could keep you hooked :)
(louis in it's fine to fake is one my favorite characters i've written. he was sO MUCH FUN and i learned so much about being unapologetically myself from him. he's my everything)
but then. AHHHHHHHHHH. everything you've said about write this down is just so?!?!?!?!? GOD I AM CRYING. i love love love that you are also an evermore truther, because that obviously means you have the best taste? as soon as i listened to that album for the first time, i knew it was meant to inspire so many musings and that's really what write this down became- an ode to my favorite album of all time :') i call it the tis the damn season fic and it IS, but it's also the champagne problems fic, the willow fic, the happiness fic, the right where you left me fic (RWYLM was written FOR write this down louis, acually!) and it's an ode to my baby folklore as well and just sdjfslkfsf i love when swifties read write this down because i know you'll fully appreciate it :')
i'm also so happy the dual POV worked, and the winters too (even now, the outlines for all the chapters and the drafts are saved in my computer as the winters <3) and as someone who takes so much pride in developing characters and relationships, it makes me the HAPPIEST to know that louis and harry's relationship felt genuine. i also love the fourth winter so much, because i'm very much the same way when reading a love story- i want to be able to root for characters and relationships and i want to WANT them to work out, and i feel like- in so many ways- winter four is their reason to keep fighting and it's so special
(and the CABIN CONVERSATIONS! aka the lakes brought to life! it was one of the first scenes i wrote!!!!).
((also i love love love including tweets hehehe and making the usernames and showing how harry's career grows through them was SO MUCH FUN!!!))
anyway!!!!!!!! now my response is long and rambly, but i hope you know that this kind of message is the absolute best thing to receive as an author. it means so much to me, and i'm just the happiest that these stories could make you happy :-) thank you so much for the love you've showed me and other fic authors. you're so wonderful <3 and your english is absolutely wonderful! <3
i hope you enjoy down the line, if you've read it, and that you're having the very best day. thank you so, so, so much for this message i will be smiling for the rest of the WEEK. ahhhhh. i love you <3
Minnesota Gophers Daily
As of today, Tuesday, September 20, the Minnesota Gophers are 3-0. They have played the best I have seen in a long time. They started off the season with a win against New Mexico State. The Gophers beat their former coach, Jerry Kill. The end score was 38-0, giving Minnesota the shut-out. The next week they played, at home, Western Illinois. The fans were doubtful about this game but the Gophers took another win. The Gophers beat Western Illinois 62-10. This was a huge confidence booster for the team and the fans. Little did everyone know that things were just getting started. The following week Minnesota played Colorado on the road. Last year the Gophers had shut them out 30-0 and they were expected to do the same to them this year. These were big shoes to fill and the Gophers did. The Minnesota Gophers beat the Colorado Buffaloes 49-7. The Gophers did not just fill the shoes they needed but took it a step further. This week is week 4 for the gophers. On Saturday, September 24 at 2:30 pm the Minnesota Golden Gophers will be playing the Michigan State Spartans. This has been and is a highly anticipated game seeing that Michigan State is one of the top teams in the Big 10.
Tumblr media
Today, I interviewed Derek Klecker about what he thinks about Gopher Football. Derek knows a lot about the gopher and follows what they do daily. The first question I asked him was what he thought of the game against Colorado. I think me and Derek had the same opinion on the game. Derek believed that we dominated the whole game, saying “Can’t complain when the offense and defense dominate like they did in all 4 quarters”. The Gophers had control of the game as soon as kickoff began. The next question I asked him was, what’s one good thing about the game and one bad thing? Derek told me that the biggest positive from the game had to have been Mo Ibrahim. He said “ He looked great and looks like the dominant back he was before his injury”. Mo Ibrahim had an amazing game and has just been showing out this year so far. He has 7 total touchdowns with 2 of them coming from the game at Colorado. He combined for a total of 132 yards and averaged 6.3 yards a rush. These states are looking about the same to the games he played before his injury. A negative was Chris Autumn-Bell’s injury. This is our number 1 WR and someone who the gophers can really depend on. Derek said, “I’m hoping other receivers can step up”. This is a big opportunity for the players who don’t play very much. The last question I asked Derek was, what do you think about the Gophers going into their big game against Michigan State? This will truly be the test. We both think that this game could get us a lot of recognition and could be one of the biggest games of the year. Derek told me about how this could prove how good the Gophers really are, saying, “WIth our past 3 games being against not so great non-conference teams, it will be a great test”. This game will finally show how much heart our Minnesota Gophers have.
I BLOODY LOVE I DONT BELIEVE IN LOVE OMG??!! WHAAT you little freaking genius holy moly I love it. It’s so angsty and also I love how much you clearly love Steve he’s such a sweet precious baby and the way he’s being so patient and kind and gentle is everything at this stage I’m team Steve even if it’s platonic lmao. I love Steve having a friend who genuinely appreciates him I think that’s what he needs. Reading it is giving me an ache in my stomach like the kind you get when you’re going through a break up y’know? Also I agree Eddie needs to suffer, Chrissy might be cool but reader is clearly incredible and deserves the world and loves him more than anyone else. I hope Steve and reader stay in their little world in fact I want them in even more of a little bubble just basically cut off the world besides each other. Put Eddie through it all honestly, have Steve and reader do everything they did, have him see them out having fun, have reader go on a hot date, have reader do all kinds of fun shit they deserve to heal and have their fun too. You should consider having reader buy weed from his competition too hurt his business while we’re at it lol😂 If he wants to be an oblivious idiot and not see how good he has it already then drag his ass through the mud(in the nicest way possible we still love Eddie but god damn he’s hurting even my feelings with his obliviousness) also I see the lil ish on the end of platonic and I’m here for all of it 😏 I can’t wait to see what you do next and I’m honestly rambling. Whatever you write is gonna be so good I swear you put crack in your stories. Anywaay basically wanted to say you’re an amazing writer I’m loving this whole camping theme you have going it’s very cool very 80’s stranger things feeling and just genuinely fun to read it’s like a nice little extra touch I’ve never seen someone do this kinda theme and I love it. I hope you have a great day/night and on a serious note I’ve been depressed af the last couple weeks just in such a slump and felt so depressed and lonely and I’ve been trying to find stuff to distract myself and I have to say you’re one of my fave writers and people on here. I hope you know how appreciated you and the effort and work you put in is. It may not seem much but just having something to read and distract myself for a little while is lovely. Thank you💖
Mornin, camper!
… hsjjsk hhhhh wowie. I- just, thank you 🖤 It genuinely means so much to hear this. Idk I guess I got overwhelmed with sharing my work, and the little voice of anxiety started to come out.
All right, camper. … Imma be honest, and it may shock may some of you. … I was never in Steve Harrington’s lane until like s.3, which I only just watched recently. I was in Johnathan’s first and then Billy’s and kindaaaaaa Steve’s and then BAM Eddie hit me like a fucking truck. But I digress.
The reason I love Steve so much is how much we seen him grow. He has one of the most well developed characters arcs I’ve seen, even when I was studying media writing. I cannot wait to rewatch all the seasons, and esp take note of the differences of his character. Mayhaps during fall for spooky season.
And DEAR GOD what have I done? A couple of campers have also express their *cough * disdain for Eddie in this and how they would like to *checks the clipboard report* ah, yes. Give him a “love tap” or “beat his ass”. … I have had thoughts about this route of pay back, but irl I’m more of a sneaky payback person. So the idea to just being unconditionally happy and free…buying weed straight Rick instead maybe (cut the lil middle man out, and be a fav customer of Rick’s for the perks???)…hehehhe me likey.
I’m so glad that you enjoy my blog! Ye, I just wanted a lil piece of summer camp in my pocket year round. It’s really made me happy :)
CAMPER, giving you all the head pats and extra dessert tickets. Maybe even a snuck in Caprisun. I know how hard bouts of depression are, and if you need anything feel free to just hang out here anytime you need. I hope you have a good day, and please try to drink some water.
Summary: Pietro tries to get Wanda and Y/n to finally admit their feelings for each other and takes them to a haunted house. Too bad Wanda is a full on scaredy cat...or is that exactly what is needed?
Word Count: 2,915
Genre: Fluff
Requested?: Yes
A/N: Finally back with the Fluff! Here’s that one shot I promised like a week ago lmao Happy Reading!
Halloween was for sure your favorite holiday.
You knew you were in the minority with that thought, seeing most people picked Christmas as their favorite, but you didn’t care. You always loved the time of year that came with Halloween, your birthday fell pretty close to it, you get to dress up and pretend to be someone else for a day, and it’s full on spooky season! What wasn’t there to love?
Well apparently a lot, at least according to your best friend Wanda.
For someone who’s a witch, you find it very funny that she doesn’t like the holiday.
You first met Wanda during the whole Ultron situation, back then she took on a more ‘emo’ appearance. Don’t tell anyone you said this, but you wouldn’t mind if she adopted the look again cause damn, so you just assumed Halloween and all things spooky would be for her, right?
Wrong.
You quickly learned that Wanda was not a fan of scary. You remember asking her to go see this new horror movie with you, it was your first time hanging out alone together and you just figured it’d be something she was into.
By the end of the movie, her face was buried in her knees, and she didn’t believe you when you told her the movie was over. The poor teenager working the theater was pretty annoyed with you both.
Needless to say, you didn’t bother her about anything spooky related again.
So when Pietro came to you two asking if you wanted to go to the new haunted house in town, you were beyond shocked that she agreed without a second thought.
“Uh, Wanda are you sure?” You asked, very hesitant. “I don’t know if you’ve ever been to a haunted house before, but-”
“I know what they are, Y/n.” Wanda cut you off before you finished, seeming very enthused, which confused you more. “I think it’ll be really cool!”
“Yeah...Wands, I know this group. This isn’t your typical ‘few scary decorations with the occasional light jump scare’ thing. These guys are intense.” You tried again. You didn’t know what had gotten into the witch, but you were sure she was making a mistake here.
“Y/n/n, relax. I’m not a child, I can handle myself. Trust me, okay? It’ll be great!” The bright smile on Wanda’s face was always a sight you welcomed, but it confused you in the moment. Still, you knew once her mind was set on something...let’s just say it’d be easier to find all the infinity stones than to talk her out of it.
“Alright, if you say so.” You shrugged, deciding it was best to drop the topic. Besides, she was right, Wanda’s a grown woman who can make her own choices. You just get to wait to be able to tell her that her choice was a stupid one. “So Friday night?” You asked Pietro, who nodded excitedly.
“Friday night!” He confirmed.
“Okay, cool.” You took another quick sip of your morning coffee before setting your mug down. “I gotta get ready for training. So happy to be working with Steve today instead of Nat, he’s always a walk in the park.” You said sarcastically with a roll of your eyes. “Wish me luck.”
The twins wished you luck as you left the room to go get ready. After they were sure you were out of earshot, the witch turned to her brother. “This is your plan? Are you crazy?”
“I know, I know, but trust me, okay?” He reassured, walking to the fridge to grab himself a drink. “Y/n loves this stuff, and as she is the love of your life-”
“Whoa, whoa, I-I never said-”
“-You should experience the things that she loves to do.” Pietro finished, ignoring his sister’s intervention. “I’ll do my best to stay out of your guys’ way, and you have the whole evening to yourselves. Sounds perfect to me.”
“Yeah, until I act like a complete, how do they say, ‘spaz’ around her again.” Wanda sighed, leaning on the kitchen counter in defeat.
“You won’t. You know what kind of things to expect now. And if you do freak out, all the more reason to be by her side. She will protect you.”
Wanda looked at her brother in confusion. “I can protect my self.”
Pietro rolled his eyes playfully. “Not what I meant. You will see, sestra.”
Friday night came before you know it, and you, Wanda and Pietro were waiting in the line to buy your tickets to enter.
“Holy shit, this is a long line.” Pietro complained, causing you to chuckle.
“Not surprising. It’s the week before Halloween, weather’s nice, and this group doesn’t come to New York a whole lot. More surprised it isn’t longer actually.” You shrugged.
“Why don’t they come to New York? I thought this was one of America’s more popular states?” Wanda asked.
“It is, but ever since Loki invaded and our merry band of misfits formed, tourism and things like this have been down a whole lot.” You leaned down to get closer to Wanda’s ear. “I guess we’ve been the scary ones all along.” You joked, but Wanda was more focused on trying to calm down and forget the feeling of your breath against her ear.
“Everything alright there, Wanda?” Pietro asked after a moment, teasing smirk on his face. Before Wanda could even fire back, a voice from in front of you spoke up.
“No way! You guys are Avengers!” The group in front of you turned around, one of the guys recognized you instantly.
“Uh, yes...we are.” Wanda awkwardly stated. You knew Wanda hated fan interactions, and to be honest you weren’t a fan of these situations either. They were unpredictable. The Avengers were either beloved or despised, and you’ve been on both ends of the reaction spectrum. Wanda and Pietro, unfortunately, have seen a lot more animosity than you and the others.
Honestly, you couldn’t even fault the ones that didn’t love you guys. You weren’t ignorant and knew your battles have caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. You could sympathize, but that didn’t mean you wanted to be on the receiving end of that anger. Especially not when you were trying to just have a fun night out with your friends. “Look guys, we’re really just here to have a good time. We don’t wanna cause a scene.” You said.
“Nah, nah, it’s cool. I think you guys are awesome!” The guy said, and it was clear to you then that the dude was baked out of his mind. “Especially you, with the red wiggly woos!” He pointed to Wanda as he gave a terrible impression of her hand movements. You smiled, happy to see a fan interaction go well for Wanda.
The joy you felt didn’t last long though, as another guy in the group turned to you, blunt in his hand. “Hey, you’re the fire one right? Can you do me a solid?” He gestured to you, asking you to give him a light. You sighed, the twins chuckling at the situation.
“Yeah, but don’t ask again.” You ignited the tip of your finger, gently placing it on the end of the blunt. The group turned around in line and continued to go about their own conversation. You felt Wanda elbow your side, and you turned to see a smirk on her face. When you heard Pietro’s snicker, you groaned.
“Shut up.”
“Look at you, helping delinquents. Aren’t you supposed to be a superhero? Bringer of justice and all of that?” Wanda teased and you rolled your eyes playfully.
“Yeah, but I’m the fun one. It’s just weed.” You said confidently, but the witch saw through it and you dropped the act. “And the last time that happened and I said no, the dude burst into tears.” You said under your breath.
“There it is.” She smiled, and you couldn’t help but smile back despite you being the subject of mockery. You loved seeing her smile, you didn’t care about the reason why.
Before you knew it, Pietro announced that you guys were next in line to buy tickets. He bought his and stepped aside so you can go next. “Hi, two please.” Wanda turned to you with her eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
“Wha- Y/n, I can afford it.” She chuckled nervously, flattered by the action.
“I know, but when I have to drag you out of here cause you’re paralyzed in fear, at least you won’t regret dropping forty bucks on it.” You shrugged as you handed the cashier your credit card.
Wanda’s face reddened, something she quickly tried to hide from her brother who was enjoying this way too much. Her flustered state faded quickly when she processed what you said. “Hey!” You chuckled before thanking the cashier as she returned your card.
“Please go to the table to sign your waivers, entrance is down that hill. Enjoy your night.” The monotone voice told you that the poor woman’s been working all night. You didn’t have time to dwell on that though as you felt a panicked tapping on your arm.
“What’s wrong? We haven’t even entered yet.” You teased.
“W-what did she mean by waivers?” You chuckled at the panicked tone in the witch’s voice.
“Just means if you have a heart attack or something, you can’t sue.” You shrugged nonchalantly, but Wanda took it very seriously and turned to you with even wider eyes.
“That can happen!?”
“Well, it happened at least once if the thought of doing a waiver.” You answered, once again, nonchalantly. You looked at Wanda and could swear you saw her blood run cold. You laughed, which resulted in you receiving a glare. “Relax, Wan, you’ll be fine. You’re an Avenger, you’ve faced off against killer robots, stared death in the face time and time again!” You exclaimed dramatically as you waved your arms. You noticed Wanda start to smile and relax her shoulders.
“Thanks, Y/n.” She gave you a sweet smile, and you couldn’t help but melt.
“Yeah, anytime.” Your eyes locked with Wanda, you were about to look away but couldn’t. ‘Wow, were her eyes always this green? They’re beautiful.’ You thought.
A blush appeared on the witch’s face as she tore her gaze from you. You were about to ask what happened, but were interrupted. “Let’s go slow pokes!” Pietro’s voice shouted, effectively breaking the moment.
“Yeah, yeah Sonic, we’re coming!” You rolled your eyes as you shouted back. Wanda giggled at the banter between you and her brother, she loved that you two were close. With that, you and her headed down the hill towards the entrance.
After about a half hour, it seemed Wanda was holding up well. The three of you walked out of the corn maze, and she had a triumphant smile on her face. “I thought you said this place was scary.” She teased causing you to roll your eyes playfully.
“Congratulations you survived the corn maze, you get to join the hall of fame with the other twelve year-olds.” As if to emphasize your point, three twelve year-olds ran out of the maze in giggles, clearly unaffected. Wanda pouted. “Aw, don’t worry. I thought you were very brave.” You teased yet again, which resulted in an elbow to the side.
“You’re a jerk.” Wanda held back a smile as she strutted forward. You laughed as you jogged forward to catch up.
“Alright, are you guys ready for the big one?” Pietro asked and your eyes widened.
“Oh, Piet, I don’t think that’s a good idea.” You said as you nudged your head towards Wanda, hinting that you didn’t think she could handle that. Unfortunately, she caught on.
“Aw come on, Y/n. I’m not a baby.”
“I know, but you can’t go from the corn maze to...that.” You gestured towards the haunted maze entrance, a giant purple demon with smoke blowing out of it’s ears looming over. You guys turned at the sound of screams, and saw a group run out of the maze in fear, which then dissolved into laughter.
“They seem to be having fun.” Wanda gestured towards the group.
“Yeah, after the screams of terror.” You shot back. “You can’t go from walking around the block to running a marathon.”
“Oh yeah? Watch me.” Wanda strutted forward towards the entrance, determined to prove you wrong.
You groaned as you looked over to Pietro, who watched the whole ordeal with a cheeky smile. “Your sister’s insane.”
“Yeah, but you love it.” Pietro said under his breath, but you still heard it.
“What?”
“Nothing!” With that, the man sped forward, catching up to his sister at the entrance. You stared after him for a moment in shock before joining them.
The three of you walked the path, and everything seemed to be going well...for all of five seconds. The first jump scare happened behind Wanda. The loud screech startled her, and she jumped with a scream. She stumbled into your arms, and you wrapped them around her in order to keep her from falling. You chuckled, and Wanda looked up at you with the intention to glare. However, when your eyes locked again, Wanda couldn’t help but stare.
You, of course, had to ruin the moment. “Not too late to turn back, y’know. This is just the beginning.” Wanda groaned and pulled away from you, continuing forward. You laughed. “You can hold my hand if you want!” You don’t know what compelled you to say that, but you knew you weren’t entirely joking.
And you didn’t regret it when Wanda reached out and held your hand without another word. You smiled, squeezing her hand.
What you didn’t see was Pietro giving Wanda a thumbs up as you both walked past.
At some point, you guys lost Pietro in the dark maze. Wanda wasn’t even worried as she still held your hand tightly, and you knew the man would be fine and he’ll meet up with you at the exit.
Wanda had been holding up better than you thought. You wouldn’t say she was good per say, seeing as she screamed and practically jumped into your arms at the slightest sound, but she hadn’t collapsed on the ground in tears yet, so you’d count that as a win.
“Gotta say, Maximoff. I’m impressed.” You said as you two walked down the maze hand in hand.
“I’m just being that super brave Avenger like you said.” Wanda giggled, and you couldn’t help but melt at the noise.
“Well you’re doing an awesome job. Even if the last three guys almost made you pee your pants.” You laughed loudly as you took in the shocked reaction the woman gave you.
“Y/n!” She scolded, but before you could even respond, the worst jump scare yet occurred.
A large animatronic growled and lowered from the ceiling right behind Wanda. The witch turned to look briefly as she screamed loudly and jumped to you again. This time, however she literally jumped into your arms. You quickly braced your hands under her thighs, catching her, as she wrapped her legs around your waist. The force from the jump caused you to stumble back into a darker corner of the maze. Your back hit a hay wall, and you and Wanda laughed at the moment. Your laughter continued for a moment, and Wanda lifted her head from your shoulder to look into your eyes. Both of you got quiet as you continued to stare, sensing the moment shift.
“You okay?” You whispered, almost as if talking to loudly would shatter the moment. Wanda nodded, eyes still locked onto yours. After a moment of silence, she spoke up.
“Y’know...I think a distraction would help.” Your eyebrows shot up at the insinuation. You doubted you heard her correctly, but when you saw her eyes shift down to your lips, you knew what she wanted. And you wouldn’t lie and say you didn’t want it too.
“I...Yeah, I think I could help with that.” You barely got your sentence out when Wanda smashed her lips to yours roughly. You tightened your hold on her thighs as she wrapped her arms around your neck. You stood there, making out roughly against the wall of the maze. As wild and sudden as this was, you wouldn’t trade this moment for anything.
Pietro noticed you two were gone for a really long time. He was beginning to get concerned, and pulled out his phone ready to call one of you. Turns out he didn’t need to.
You two came out of the maze, only you weren’t alone. You and Wanda each had a security guard holding your arm. After you two were out of the maze completely, they let you go and walked off. It was then that Pietro noticed both of your disheveled states. And he could swear he saw two or three hickeys forming on your neck.
“No you didn’t-” He started, but you cut him off.
“Not a word.” Your hand found it’s way to Wanda’s as you guys walked towards the exit of the park, figuring it’d be bad Avengers press if you guys stayed any longer at this point. You had an awesome night anyway, and didn’t care if it ended a little early. Besides, you had a feeling you’d get to have some more...fun when you got back to the compound.
You didn’t notice Pietro high five Wanda’s free hand.
day seventeen: self-inflicted wound | j.h.
summary: still caring for your idiotic ex-husband isn’t easy, but someone has to do it.
pairing: jay halstead x reader
cw: season 7 spoilers, implied self-harm through coercion, minor injury
word count: 1066
Tumblr media
There’s something to be said about the panic that is induced by finding out from your former brother-in-law that your ex-husband was at the hospital after negotiating with a man who was psychotic enough to try to start a freaking pandemic. Despite the fact that you and Jay had been separated for years now, no longer able to support him when he refused to seek the help he so desperately needed after getting back from war, you still cared for him. Even if he still was a self sacrificial idiot.
Rather than go into full blown panic mode, and not only risking getting fired but getting pulled over by the cops, you ask your boss if you can take an early lunch and head on over to Med before he can discharge himself. Thankfully with one Oscar worthy performance, and a few fake tears that practically send your boss running for the hills, your request is granted and you find yourself driving down to Med as soon as possible.
Parking in the car park, and paying a ridiculous amount of money in ticket fees, you head down to the Emergency Department, honing in on Will’s unmistakable bright red hair. Sneaking up behind him, you childishly poke him in the side, barking out a laugh when he violently flinches and glares at you when he turns to look at the perpetrator. Dragging you into a hug, one that you eagerly return, he sends you on your way in the direction of Jay’s room, mentioning that some of his new unit are with him right now.
Promising to buy him a round in thanks, you make your way over to the bay, thankful for the curtain currently preventing Jay from seeing you walking over and giving him the chance to escape. Opening the sliding door and flinging the curtain back, you see a plethora of faces you could vaguely identify through Will’s thorough descriptions of them from your monthly catch up sessions.
They all seem too stunned to say anything, most of all Jay, and so you take their shock as an opportunity to go over to your ex-husband and smack some sense into him.
“Have? You? Lost? Your? Damn? Mind?” You exclaim, punctuating every word with a forceful slap to his upper arm and torso, mindful to not actually hit his wound.
“Nice to see you too baby.” He says sarcastically, ignoring his team’s bewildered looks at the nickname slip up. “It’s been, what, eight years?”
“Yeah, about that. And yeah, it could have been nice. Only, I thought the next time I’d see you, it would be because you finally accepted Mouse’s invitation to come hang out seeing as he was discharged again. Not because I got a call from Will to say you’d almost died negotiating with a fucking eco terrorist!”
“Well I didn’t, I didn’t even get the chance to spray my wound with it so everything’s fine. You can go back to work now.”
“Oh no mister, you aren’t getting out of this one that easily. I fake cried in front of my boss so I could take an early lunch to see your sorry ass. I’m not going anywhere.”
To further prove your point, you push his feet to the side before hopping up onto the end of the stretcher, folding your arms across your chest just for the sake of it. You introduce yourself to the rest of his team as his divorcé, watching all of their eyes widen immensely at the use of the title, their gazes flickering between you and him.
“Let me guess: none of you have a clue as to who I am.”
“Nope, sorry.” The blonde woman whose name you believe is Harriet? Helena? H-something, says. “But I can’t wait to get to know you. You know I have never seen anyone out stubborn Jay before, I think I need some tips.”
“I’d be happy to oblige. Nice to meet you all by the way, Mouse and Will have told me a lot about you guys.”
“Hang on, you still speak to Will?” Jay asks, accidentally leaning in his injured arm in a burst of frustration.
“Someone had to keep me up to date on how self-destructive you were being, and Mouse still can’t look me in the eye after you know what, so it wasn’t exactly a hard choice.”
He pouts at you, just like he always used to when he wasn’t getting his own way, and you’d honestly would be endeared by it if you weren’t coming off the tail end of a panicked adrenaline rush because of him. Before you get a chance to respond, or dwell on any residual feelings you had for the man, your phone starts buzzing, the alarm that you’d set to warn you of when you needed to get back to work blaring loudly.
Sighing loudly, you jump off of the bed, exchanging niceties with his team and telling Hailey, Vanessa and Kim to get your number from Will when you leave. Although you consider leaving without saying anything to Jay now that the anger had subdued itself slightly, in the end you decide against it, squeezing past Kevin to stand by the head of the bed. Before anyone can process it, you press a kiss to the centre of Jay’s forehead, lingering momentarily before pulling away.
“I’m glad you’re okay, Freckles. But don’t you ever pull that shit again.”
“I won’t, I promise.”
Smiling at him, you say goodbye once more to his team before leaving his room, Jay calling out to you before you’ve crossed the threshold.
“Hey, just so you know, it took a while but I did it.”
He doesn’t need to say what it is, because there was only one thing it could have been. The very thing that destroyed your relationship in the first place. Turning around to face him, you smile proudly at him, nodding and telling him that you already could tell when you walked through the door. Leaving the conversation hanging, you head back to the parking lot, saying a brief goodbye to Will in passing.
The ball was in Jay’s court now, it’d be up to him as to what he did with it. Halsteads, can’t live with or without them, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, maybe one without so much death defying crap.
Perciver (Percy x Oliver) Headcanons
They first met on the train ride to Hogwarts after Percy tripped over Oliver's luggage that he left out in the aisle
After a short argument, Percy went to find an empty compartment, only to find they were none and didn't have much of a choice but sit with Oliver
He was very annoyed to hear that he was more interested in quidditch than actual studies
"I can't wait until I can try out for the quidditch team next year"
"You know there's a lot more to Hogwarts than just quidditch right?"
When the train arrived at the station, Percy was more than happy to leave the compartment and the "annoying quidditch boy" behind
Unfortunately for him, the hat sorted them both into Gryffindor, meaning he would have to deal with and share a dorm with the obnoxious and impulsive jock for the next 7 years
Most of their first year, they completey ignored each other, finding the other extremely annoying
In their second year, Oliver became the Gryffindor quidditch keeper after he did amazingly at tryouts, which Percy wasn't too happy about
He thought that he wasn't taking anything that wasn't quidditch seriously, and he wasn't exactly wrong
Oliver always seemed to insist on putting off homework to practice quidditch
Percy tried to convince Charlie, the current quidditch captain, to kick him off the team multiple different times
"I agree that he should focus more on his studies, but he's the best Keeper Gryffindor has had in years. I can't just kick him off the team. We need him. Maybe you could just try to help him out a bit, you know, encourage him to study more,"
"He'd never listen. He's a complete moron and doesn't care about anything that isnt quidditch,"
"Well you're a complete moron that doesn't care about anything besides your studies but I'd still help you out if you needed it,"
Percy decided not to go Charlie's suggestion to help Oliver out, thinking that it would be a waste of time and continued with his earlier plan to simply ignore him completely
However, half way through third year Mcgonagall offered Percy a chance at some extra credit, and of course he agreed before she even explained what it was all about
She explained to him that Oliver wasn't doing very well in transfiguration and if he continued doing poorly, he would have to be removed from the quidditch team so he could focus more on his studies and when she had discussed the matter with Charlie, he suggested having Percy tutor him
If it wasn't for the fact that he'd hate to go back on his word and disappoint Mcgonagall, he wouldn't have done it at all
Although he didn't hate the idea of tutoring such a moron much less
He tutored him for the rest of third year, and neither of them were too happy about having to associate with the other as much as they did
Fourth Year, Oliver was appointed quidditch captain by Mcgonagall (and just as Charlie had requested)
Percy continued to try his best to ignore him, although it was becoming harder and harder to do since they had most of the same classes
One night a few weeks before the first Gryffindor quidditch match of the season, he found Oliver alone in the Gryffindor common room with rolls of parchment and quills everywhere
"Finally decided to do a bit of studying?" Percy asked in a mocking tone
"No actually. I'm working on strategies for the quidditch game. Not that you'd understand," Oliver retorted as he took out another roll of parchment from his bag
Percy grabbed one of the pieces of parchment paper and examined it closely
After he took a look at a few others, he quickly realized how well Oliver was at strategizing
"These strategies-"
"Let me guess, are terrible and not as good as your brother's?"
"I was going to say genius,"
Oliver quickly looked up at him to try to see if it seemed like he was lying or not
"You really think so?"
"Of course I do, we both know that if i didn't think they were good I'd just tell you,"
"Thanks" Oliver replied awkwardly
"Might I offer a few suggestions,"
"I don't see why not,"
For the rest of the night, the two boys continued to discuss quidditch strategies for the upcoming game
After that night, they started to talk to each other a lot more, slowly realizing the other wasnt so bad after all
Percy even agreed to tutor him once again, as long as he actually tried to put forth the effort
They quickly became friends and often stayed up late into the night, talking about quidditch and exams and helping each other when ever they needed it
Their fifth year was definitely a bit more complicated than that with Percy being busy with prefect duties and Oliver with quidditch
It seemed as if the less time they spent together, the more they both realised how much they actually liked each other
About half way through fifth year, Percy's good friend, Penelope Clearwater, asked him if he was seeing anyone
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
"No"
"Perhaps a boyfriend then?"
"Nope"
"Well what about Wood? You two seemed awfully close last year,"
"He's just a friend"
"Mhm sure he is,"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean just friends, don't look at each other the way you two look at each other,"
Percy thought about what Penelope said a lot over the next few days, slowly becoming more and more confused as to how he felt about Oliver
He also kept thinking about how even if he did like him, there was no way Oliver felt the same- or even liked boys for that matter
It seemed like Oliver had a new girlfriend every few weeks, never sticking with one for long
Percy began ignoring him on accident, and Oliver was quick to notice but chose not to say anything, worried that he had done something to cause Percy to be mad at him
The silence continued between the two for the rest of that school year, and wasnt addressed until the beginning of their sixth year
"Percy, we need to talk,"
"About what?"
"Did- did I do something that upset you last year?"
"Of course not. What would make you say that?"
"Well its just that you kept ignoring me is all,"
"I'm really sorry about, I wasn't meaning to its just-" Percy took a deep breath in and decided to be honest with him "It's just that Penelope suggested that I liked you and then i started thinking about it and slowly realized that what she said was true so I accidentally started ignoring you,"
"Wait, you like me?"
"I know it's stupid and that you don't feel the same,"
"What do you mean? I've had a crush on you since fourth year,"
"What?!"
"I thought I had made it so obvious,"
"I- I never realized once. But if you do like me, then why do you keep dating so many different girls?"
"I was trying to make you jealous. I honestly don't even like girls,"
"Wow. I feel so stupid,"
"Me too,"
After that they decided that they wanted to be in a relationship together, but wanted to keep things a secret for the time being
The rest of their sixth year went pretty smoothly, and everything went really well until seventh year
During their seventh year, they weren't able to talk much during the day since both were really busy (Oliver with quidditch and Percy with head boy duties)
They still always tried to make time for each other tho
After losing the match to Hufflepuff, they snuck out of the castle and got some butterbeer and Percy attempted to cheer Oliver up (it did work in the end)
Later on after Gryffindor won the house cup, the two ended up just cuddling and kissing in their dorm room instead of joining the other Gryffindors in the common room party since Percy wasn't fond of all the noise
Once the two left Hogwarts a few weeks later, they both decided to keep in touch by letter and meet up when they could
When the Quidditch world cup was announced, Oliver offered to buy Percy a ticket for the seat next his, but he respectfully declined, already planning to sit with his family
Despite this, they spent a lot of time together while there
Almost immediately after the quidditch match ended, they snuck off together and ended up snogging by a lake not too far from where they were camping
Unfortunately Charlie found them kissing when he went to go look for Percy, and both of them became extremely flustered
"I uhh, we were just, umm, Oliver what were we doing again" Percy stammered, getting redder by the second
"Umm well weren't you just trying my butterbeer chapstick" Oliver replied, not trying to make eye contact with either of them
"Yes of course, and now that I have, I'll just leave" He tried to walk away but Charlie grabbed his arm before he could
"Wait just a minute Perce. I know that you and Oliver are dating,"
"What?? Why didn't you tell me that we were dating Percy?" Oliver lied, trying to act like he had no idea of what's going on
"You're not helping," Percy scolded his boyfriend
"I just saw you snogging him, if you're going to lie to me, at least try to do it well" Charlie mumbled
"I don't mind you two being together, and I promise I won't tell anyone" he added
"Thanks," Percy sighed
"So wait, you're not going to kill me for kissing your little brother?" Oliver asked jokingly
"Of course not" He laughed. "Bill probably would've though,"
"Well I'm just going to go back to camp now. I assume dad's wondering where I am," Percy attempted to walk away again
"One more thing,"
"What is it?"
"I just wanted you know that I think he's a keeper," Charlie laughed loudly
Oliver quickly joined in on the laughter and Percy groaned out of annoyance
I'm just going to leave this off here since its already really long but if you want me to write some more post Hogwarts Perciver hcs or any ship or character hcs, let me know (you can comment on this post if you want me to make more Perciver hcs and tell me through asks or dm for other character hc requests)
The ultimate How I Met Your Mother Finale rant
I know this has been done before, and I know I'm several years late to the party, but I don't care, so IN THIS ESSAY I WILL tell you about why this finale takes the spot as the second-worst finale in TV show history (because Game of Thrones is still, to this day, unbeatable, and it will probably stay like that forever).
But first, a little context: I've just finished binge-watching HIMYM. This binge has been going on for three days straight (my final exam of the semester is in a week and I should be studying, so the fact that the last few days were a partial waste of time makes me so mad). Second thing: I already knew how it would end, and yes, kids, it does ruin the show for you. It ruins the show so much it makes your blood boil when you rewatch certain scenes, but I will get to that.
You might want to make yourself a drink because this is a complete list of all the reasons why HIMYM's finale sucks - I'm warning you, it's gonna be looong.
It completely invalidates the entirety of season 9
This is one of the complaints people most often have with this series, and I have to agree. It would have been so much better if the last two episodes never existed, and they just showed Barney and Robin dancing at the reception after walking out of the chapel, Ted noticing Tracy and then the platform scene. "And that, kids, is the story of how I met your mother". Cut scene. Honestly, I don't get the hate people give to season 9, barring the last 2/3 episodes, especially since season 8 was so much worse (except for a few honourable mentions, like The Robin). S8 was slower, less funny, and less deep, and while the authors took a risk by making s9 happen in the span of a weekend it paid off: they took their time introducing the character of the Mother to the gang and fleshing her out. They make sure to highlight all the little ways in which Ted and Tracy are perfect for each other, and even tie up loose ends, like with the Slapsgiving episode, that was a filler but it wasn't boring to watch (although it may be problematic for different reasons, I'm not Chinese, so I can't say for sure if it's cultural appropriation or just the authors making fun of a particular movie genre).
Some episodes were arguably great: "Daisy" was amazing, and that whole fight between Marshall and Lily was so realistic and well thought out, "Sunrise" was extremely important for Ted's character development, same goes for Tracy and "How Your Mother Met Me", "Bedtime stories" was impressive, "Rally" was incredibly funny and proved once again what a beautiful character Barney Stinson is, so much so that even Robin never has doubts that he (the guy with the biggest commitment issues on the planet) will bail on her before the wedding, and says to Ted that "he always comes back". Daphne's character is super funny and the right amount of annoying, the shenanigans of the gang are well thought out and all of the characters (not just Barney) complete their arc in this season. The last two/three episodes butcher that.
Marshall and Lily
Marshall and Lily, arguably the world's most solid couple, are the only thing this God-awful finale gets right, especially Marshall, who is my second-favourite character, that finally gets everything he deserves. But what about Lily? They never mention her career after Italy, and I refuse to believe she goes back to being a kindergarten teacher as if her year in Rome meant nothing. I also refuse to think she becomes nothing but a political wife, the equivalent of Zoey, but without saving the world. We know she has three kids, but her postpartum depression is never really talked about much and they definitely had the screentime to delve into it.
Barney
 Where do I even begin? Barney Stinson is, without a doubt, the best character in this series, the glue of the whole gang. I think the message they were trying to give is that, since his trauma stemmed from the absence of a father figure in his life, he could only truly heal by becoming a father as well. People also say that n°31 had to stay just a number, because who could match up with Barney Stinson? First of all, I call BULSHIT on that last point, because Robin wasn't the only girl Barney could have ended up marrying. I used to think that too, but it's just not true: that is the equivalent of saying that Barney was incapable to truly love a woman and commit to her, even after all the development he got, and that he only got one shot at love in life, and that's it. This goes against the point the showrunners try to make by having Ted and Robin end up together AND by having Tracy get with Ted in the first place: "it's never too late, you always have another chance at love, etc." And, let's face it, Barney and Robin are legendary, but Barney and Nora (hell, even Barney and Quinn!) were pretty good together too.
Second of all, if they wanted to give Barney a kid, they could have easily done that, before Barney married Robin. Barney's "redemption" starts when he gets with Robin the first time, hell maybe even when we meet James for the first time: Nora, Quinn, finding out who his father is, the episode dedicated to the lies his mum told him/finding James' father, him getting to know his own dad, etc... those are all steps along the way. The s9 episode where Barney accepts the relationship between Loretta and the reverend proves how far he's come. So why not give him a daughter BEFORE he proposes to Robin? Have him cheat on Nora/Quinn with n°31, giving him a relapse, and having him get closer to Robin while struggling to be a dad to Ellie. That would have been great.
Or, you know, don't give him children. What's the point of burning the Playbook if you're going to have him write the second edition? What's the point of having him do a complete 180 in the last few scenes and acting like having a kid is the only thing that makes him change? What's the point of doing that when the show spends entire episodes berating Marshall and Lily for "changing too much" when they have a kid?
Also, Barney is the "challenge accepted" guy. He loves his wife so much, he spent years wanting her, and then he gives up because there is no WiFi in his hotel. How does that make any sense at all? This is Barney Stinson, the "I will fly out to San Francisco and buy Lily a plane ticket", the "I will steal every girl from my best friend just to save him for Lily", the guy that wrote the Playbook (it takes effort to pull those plays off), the guy that planned for weeks his proposal, the guy that waited years to get back at the man who stole his first girlfriend, the guy that makes every night legendary... are you telling me that that guy becomes the equivalent of a bored housewife instead of living his best life while travelling the world? Come on. They don't even try to make it believable.
Ted
While watching seasons 7 and 8, I felt that Ted was becoming the worst character on the show: he was boring, depressed, basically had no good storylines, the whole thing with Victoria was pointless and inconclusive (and the whole "stop being in love with Robin" was completely out of character for her), but whatever, we could have accepted that because it passed the message that two people could be good together, without being soulmates - which, by the way, renders the TedxRobin ship pointless, because they were right for each other, but Ted and Tracy were soulmates. Him being hung up on Robin in the latter seasons is almost pathetic, and the thing he does with the locket is insane, not romantic - BUT I will say this: it can be seen in two ways, depending on who's watching. I personally like the two as friends, so I see the whole thing as a "Dahmer" situation, but I get the people who see it as a "Dobler" one and see what he did as a grand romantic gesture.
The problem, though, is that the whole TedxRobin ship gets pretty old, pretty fast: it's an annoying on-and-off thing, that should have ended with the locket. Because, yes, Ted was in a dark moment, yes, he was probably depressed, yes, he thought Robin was his only shot at happiness, but he changes during season nine! He spends entire episodes letting go of Robin, including the one where she transforms into a balloon and flies away. Ted is the good guy, ultimately. He is the guy that is genuinely happy for his best friends. In one of the deleted scenes from the finale, he meets Robin years later and says that he's so happy with Tracy he never thought about Robin in that way anymore. All of that gets thrown in the trash. Why do that? To use a Harry Potter metaphor, Ted is Severus Snape, while Barney is James Potter: the former loved the girl of his dreams with all his heart, even to the point of creepiness, but they weren't meant to be together.
Robin
This, along with the next point, is the worst of all: Robin is the worst character of the entire finale. Her relationship with Ted in season 2 is wonderful, and I say that as a full-on Barney/Robin shipper. There was never a problem in their relationship, apparently, but they then break up because they have an "expiration date" and ultimately want different things in life. Except that Ted is not her soulmate. The only times when Robin wants Ted are the times where (1) she can't have him because he's either trying to move on or (2) the times where it's convenient, for example when they become roommates again and they solve their disputes again. Around that time, we see perfectly that Ted had moved on and that the person getting hurt was Barney. It's one thing to see Ted and Robin in the finale as two people picking up where they had left off after they dated. But this is not the case.
In season 7, we have the exchange that should have put an end to any and all TedxRobin drama, and that completely invalidates whatever the writers wrote after that about the two of them: Ted declares his love - "I think you know how you feel about me now. I don't think time's gonna change that. Just tell me: do you love me?" To which she answers "No". And Ted also says later to Marshall, that he's "happy because he can finally move on".
What a load of crap.
Getting over someone is hard, believe me, I would know. And, oftentimes, it doesn't happen until we find someone else to love (and from the moment he meets Tracy, there is no one else for Ted). But by giving Ted feelings for Robin after this moment, it takes away from the beauty of it- because it's one of the most heartbreaking feelings in the world when you declare your love to someone and they don't love you back. Ted and Robin were both honest at that moment, and it was the last genuinely good exchange between them. After that, during season 8 they try to show us Ted trying to get over her (and failing) and in season 9 Ted getting over her completely. This is also weirdly paced because at the beginning of s8 both are in happy relationships with other people and there's no jealousy (which is good, because at least they weren't toxic) and they seem just friends (when Robin leaves Nick to go see him in the middle of the night, she implies that she would do it for any of her friends), but after Ted breaks up with Veronica because of Robin everything is weirdly coated in this sort of tension between the two: first Ted loves her, but she doesn't, so when he helps her by taking her to Barney's proposal ("which means my best bro in the world has given me his blessing").
And, by the way, every time they try to paint Ted as the guy that comes through for Robin after this moment, they dumb down Barney's character. And still fail to make Ted a better guy than him (see: the carousel in Central Park).
Yes, Robin and Ted have some chemistry, but it is nothing compared to what Robin and Barney have. Every time Robin is jealous of Barney, it doesn't seem like a stupid whim, just because some other child is playing with her toys (except, perhaps, during The Robin). Robin and Barney's relationship would need a whole other post, and the next time I rewatch the series I will write down all the things that make them perfect for each other, but, to me, the biggest difference between the two relationships is this: in season 6, when she's not dating either one of them, Ted accuses Robin of never making him feel needed while they were together, whereas Barney praises her for it. Those are elective affinities: that's what Barney and Robin have, and what Tracy and Ted have.
Barney and Robin have more or less the same arc: they both get over their fear of commitment and they do that with each other. Time and time again, we are told that if they're ever going to settle down, it would only be with the other. The first time they break up is honestly so stupid, and even when they are broken up, they are the best of friends, which also makes Robin's behaviour in the finale look so stupid. The way the two of them fit together is unparalleled, both in a romantic and a platonic way.
Think about it: Robin makes Barney a better man, while she makes Ted a worse one.
Also, the whole point that there are different seasons in life for everything gets thrown out the window: apparently, Ted and Robin (that were a couple that ultimately worked in their young twenties) are the same people in their forties.
But that's not even the worst part. The worst part is that the two final episodes butcher Robin's arc as well: episode 23 starts with Lily saying "I want this girl to be in our lives" and we know Robin never made other friends outside of the gang, because she didn't need to, and now she walks away from everything because of fucking Ted?? This is saying "hey, Robin was only in the group for Ted, who brought her in, and now she leaves because he's not her puppy anymore". Robin was the one that was eternally indecisive between Ted and Barney and you're telling me that three years and many many life experiences later, she's still not sure?
The point of her story is learning how to get over her fear of commitment, learning how to be there for her friends (there's an entire episode dedicated to that, and it's the one where Lily's pregnant and we meet Robin's ex-best friend in Canada), and how to balance her job and her life. Also, the way her character is treated is un-feminist and un-progressive: she becomes Ted's consolation prize. She is passive throughout s9. She cannot, ultimately, win the modern-day struggle most women have and balance out career and love life, so her true life, her "happy chapter" begins after she has already accomplished everything she wanted to and she's free for Ted. She doesn't even go back to him, she just the prize the main character wanted for all his life and only got in the end because his wife died (ONE SCENE, people, ONE SCENE!). Also, this makes Tracy the "broodmare" that gives him the kids he wanted, and his "happy family" experience before he goes to be with his one true love.
The mother
This. This makes me so mad. One whole season spent on building up Tracy's character, just for it to go to waste. It would have been so easy to screw her up, but she is hands down the best thing about s9. She's the perfect woman for Ted and the episode shot through her perspective is the sweetest. By the end, I liked her more than Robin and Lily. She was the perfect addition to their group, she fit together with them in a perfect way, and they show us the biggest moment of her and Ted's life... for what? To have her die in a few sentences? And I don't care if they shot a funeral scene, I don't care if the finale was supposed to be 40 minutes long, because, in the end, it wasn't. The scene where Ted meets her is the second most beautiful one (after Barney's proposal to Robin) and the climax of the whole show, but they ruin her... and for what? The chemistry Ted has with her, he has with no one. The joy she brings him, the way she understands him, is unlike any other. I am sure that one of the reasons they killed her off was the shock value and I hate it.
I cannot stress this enough: Tracy makes Ted a better person. When he's with Robin, Ted is "the nice guy" in the most selfish and narcissistic version of the trope. When he's with Tracy, love comes easy to Ted. Also, the scenes between the two of them are arguably the best Ted scenes of the show.
The kids' reactions (ugh)
It's not really what they say- it's the way they say it. The end of HIMYM was not supposed to be funny, even though the show is a sitcom. It was supposed to be bittersweet and beautiful, because it's the end of an era, and the writers must have known that. So, Ted finishes telling his story, reveals to the audience that their now-beloved Tracy is dead, and the reaction is: "No, ahah, you totally have the hots for Aunt Robin" (their words, not mine). Like, what the actual fuck? I cringed when Penny said that. It's tasteless and not fun at all. Even if it has been six years... It's still your fucking mum, show a little bit of sadness at the thought of her.
The reason the show ended this way
What makes me especially mad is that I know for a fact that the reason they went with this ending is that it was the original one, always intended for the show, from season 2 onwards. And, if you watch it right after s2, it makes sense. But if you consider the eight years that passed and the massive character development, then no, it's not the best possible one. So many things hadn't been decided yet back in s2, especially about Barney, Ted, and Robin, and I hate that they didn't dare to scrap their work. This ending probably had sentimental meaning to the writers, but authors have to do what's best for their characters, not themselves. It's like with GoT, in a way: I think that the authors were all too aware of the impact of HIMYM and didn't believe that their finale would live up to the expectations... which compelled them to make the worst decision possible?? Every single character is OOC during the episode. Oh, and Marshall and Lily moving in the last episode is a ripoff from Friends (or maybe a tribute? Idk). Anyway, I believe that the authors were too attached to their sentimental version of "what should have been" and didn't give the characters the endings they truly deserved.
"Life works this way" // "Life only moves forward"
Some people say that the show is realistic because that's how life works. But I call super-BS on that. That might be true, and yes, people do get sick and die (Max, Marshall's dad...) and life does go on. But then, you don't frame it the way they did. It's just bad storytelling if you do it like that. And the problem is not the structure of season 9, because the characters develop in that season. The problem isn't even the mother's death. The problem is Ted ending up with Robin because that's not life moving forward for him, that's him, doing the same thing he did in 2005, 25 (twenty-fucking-five) years before!
In conclusion, this finale is incoherent and inconclusive, and not satisfying at all. The only character that gets a good ending is Marshall: why is that? What makes his ending great? It's the fact that his character arc is respected and he finally gets what he's been working towards for more than ten years.
part 3 , part 5
you twiddled your thumbs in front of the poster. a halloween party? next month? it’d come as a surprise how fast the holiday was coming up.
your stomach filled with butterflies, however, it sunk when you remembered what had happened last night.
the little fight you had with kirishima. how it seemed like he suddenly hated bakugou, who was one of his best friends. you didn’t want to believe that kirishima could have had feelings for you. perhaps he was just protecting you.
you sighed. you truly didn’t want to fight with either of them. maybe kirishima was right. he did know bakugou better than you, but to your knowledge, bakugou had never had a relationship.
maybe kirishima was trying to say that bakugou would be toxic in the sense that he would never pay attention to you. perhaps he would be too focused on becoming the number one hero.
whatever. it didn’t matter now.
the poster listed that it was going to be a costume party, and dressing up was mandatory. you were good friends with mei hatsume from the support group, so she would be going all-out for the season. you wondered if she’d be able to whip something up for you, too.
you had a few minutes left before class started, surely she should be available for a little bit of chatter. besides, mei hatsume never turned down a new project.
turning, you started your way to the support classrooms just to be stopped, come face-to-face with the one person you’d been trying to avoid all day. “i don’t want to talk right now, kirishima,” you snapped. perhaps you were being a bit harsh, but he was the one trying to control you, was he not?
“then don’t talk, y/n. i’ll talk.”
you shoved past him, clutching your books to your chest. “no.”
“just hear me out, okay? last night was...i didn’t mean to seem-”
“seem what? possessive? rude? like an overprotective, jealous boyfriend?”
“in no way was i trying to come across as any of those, trust me y/n.”
you continued on your way to the support classes only to find him standing before you again. You sighed, tightening your grip around your books. “what.” you commanded him, you didn’t ask.
kirishima let out a sigh of his own, letting his arms fall to his sides. “can we just...talk? we’re friends, and we’ve always communicated well with each other.”
“communication was out of the question yesterday, wasn’t it?” you attempted shoving him away to continue on your way, but he caught your shoulder, finger pads digging into your skin possessively.
“please, y/n.”
you looked down your nose at him. “fine. say what you so badly want to get out.”
“listen, i-”
the bell rang, and students went rushing back into their classrooms. you shrugged, victorious. “looks like the bell isn’t on your side either, kirishima.”
you heard him sigh in defeat, but did not look back.
---
there was something about the way kirishima was suddenly looking at you that bakugou didn’t like. at all. his pencil snapped in his grip, chips of wood and led flying into the air.
speaking of kirishima, what was up with him lately? everything was suddenly about you. he was always around you. sure, throughout the years, you two had gotten closer, but kirishima looked just about ready to abandon bakugou’s ass on the side of the road.
as usual, aizawa would be a bit late. in about ten minutes, the man would come wandering in, bags hanging low under his eyes, and instruct the lesson before falling back into his much-needed slumber.
that was when bakugou would interrogate kirishima. but first, he needed to talk to you. needed to be sure he was on the winning side before anything happened between kirishima.
bakugou walked over to your desk, tugging at your sleeve to get your attention.
“hm?” you looked up from your notebook. “yes, bakugou? do you need something?”
“yeah,” he replied, scratching the back of his neck. “you saw the poster too, right? the one about that stupid dance.”
“well, i don’t think it’s stupid. it looks fun! don’t you think?”
he drowned himself in your eyes. “mhm.”
“so, did you still need something?”
“got any costume ideas in mind?”
you feigned surprise. “katsuki bakugou? are you saying what i think you’re saying?”
he licked his lips. gosh, the way his name rolled off your tongue sounded the way honey tasted. “don’t push it.” he grinned. “still considering it.”
“well, if you’re thinking of going, you definitely should. i’m buying tickets with mina and kaminari if you’d like to tag along.”
“tag along?” he let out a breathy chuckle. “i’ll be the star of the show if i ‘tag along’, you got me?”
you gave him a side smile. “mhm. but you do realize how hectic it’s gonna be there, right? i mean, you’ve got to pick something that...pops, y’know?” your fingers sprung out to add emphasis.
“whether i wear some stupid costume or not, i’m still going to be the star of the show. you got that?”
you knew he was only teasing. if it’d been the bakugou from before, he would have most likely meant it, however, you knew how he openly teased you now. strangely, it was only you who he was so open with.
bakugou smirked, leaning down to raise your chin with his fingers. “i’ll go if you go.”
he had your heart pacing rapidly. “mhm.”
“use your words.”
“yes, i think i’ll go.”
“you think?” he taunted.
“i will go.” you cleared your throat. “bakugou.”
“good.” his gentle fingers let go of your chin and he wandered back to his desk, eyeing you from there for a moment before flicking open a textbook and reading.
you diverted your eyes back to your notebook, hands shaking as you wrote down the date. you scribbled down your name three times in the top right corner just to look busy.
adjusting your elbow, you did your best to make it look like you were merely leaning your cheek on your hand in a bored manner. gosh. you could still feel his eyes burning into you, demanding. serious. gorgeous and blood red.
kirishima was right about you having feelings for bakugou. however you sat there conflicted for a little while.
bakugou had just approached you in a similar manner as kirishima. did kirishima..?
no, you two were only friends.
you shook your head, still doing your best to conceal the stupid grin crossing your cheeks.
everyone knew that telling other people if you were just friends with someone after they asked, one person had feelings for the other at least. it was another thing asking yourself that.
- - -
it was just a week before the dance, and you still had yet to choose a costume. mina and kaminari had offered you a few of the costumes she’d worn at previous halloween parties, but none had appealed to you.
you wanted something fresh. wanted something that you’d feel like you would have fun in.
“wouldn’t dressing up as a pirate be really, i don’t know. i just feel like it’d be super super hot in the gym.”
mina rolled her eyes. “well duh, you look hot in everything, y/n.”
you scoffed. “thanks, but i’m not sure about that.”
“kirishima seems to think so,” kaminari teased from inside the change room. all three of you were currently at a thrift store trying to find matching costumes.
you rolled your eyes, disregarding the fact he couldn’t see. “don’t bring him up. please.”
“what happened between you two?” mina asked, slipping the costume back onto its hanger. she slipped it back into its spot on the rack and began sifting through new clothes. “you guys just suddenly stopped talking.”
you shrugged. “he’s just been...off lately. you know? i don’t know how else to explain it. but ever since that incident where he broke bakugou’s nose-”
kaminari peaked out from the curtain, jaw dropping. “he broke bakugou’s nose?”
you waved him off. “yes, now let me finish. kirishima did this thing where he just...he acted all protective in private and then tried to apologize for it the next day. he kept telling me stuff like bakugou wasn’t good for me and everything.”
mina blinked, jaw dropping to the floor. “honey, what?”
she and kaminari exchanged shocked glances before she popped a hip out and put her fist to it.
“bestie, honey. you really are oblivious, aren’t you?”
you let out an exasperated breath. “he told me that, too! he pinned me to the wall and was like, oh, you’re so oblivious.” you imitated his voice, puffing out your chest to mock his stockiness.
“baby, baby! do you hear yourself?” mina shook you, taking you by your shoulders. “what the heck? are you blind? he’s down bad for you!”
“bad? if he had feelings for anyone, not just me, i think kirishima would be a little more considerate.”
“but it’s bakugou,” kaminari chirped in. “he knows he won’t win if he doesn’t get you now.”
“please, bakugou doesn’t win at everything.”
mina raised an eyebrow. “but you already have feelings for bakugou, so technically he’s already winning.”
you pursed your lips. “i guess, but if kirishima really had romantic feelings for me, he’d be less of an ass about it.”
“is he going to the dance?” kaminari closed the curtain, rustling around to change back into his clothes once more.
“i’m pretty sure.” you began sifting through clothes with mina. “bakugou said he’d go if i went. so i’m guessing kirishima is going to be there, too. bakugou and he are never apart.”
mina slapped her thigh in disbelief. “do you hear yourself, babes?” she wore a stupid grin. “i haven’t seen those two together since...i don’t know, not for the past month. they’re fighting over you, whether you realize it, whether they realize it.”
kaminari let out a false moan. “oh to have those two fighting over me.” he came out of the change room dressed in his own clothes.
“did the costume not fit?” mina asked.
“my fat ass is too fat for it. i’m too hot to be a pirate.” he posed, mimicking aoyama.
“your ass is flatter than a pancake, kaminari.”
you chuckled, but couldn’t help thinking about what mina was saying. as your two friends began chatting away, you lost yourself in your thoughts.
the three of you sat down for dinner at a cheap restaurant. mina and kaminari had bought a matching costume set, and you were still left without one. the two had left for the bathroom, leaving you sipping your own drink alone.
your chest sank into your stomach when a familiar head full of red, the roots beginning to darken, stepped into the restaurant. he ordered what you’d guessed.
he waited for the meal to be prepared for take out, rocking back and forth on his heels and whistling softly.
thankfully, you felt someone rest a hand on your shoulder. you turned, expecting to see kaminari or mina attempting to save you. instead, you found a strange man. he looked to be around your age. you vaguely recognized his face. perhaps you’d seen him around yuuei before.
uncomfortable, you shoved his hand off. “please go away.”
kirishima blinked slowly when his eyes found you. you did not attempt to hide your annoyance.
you wanted to tell both of them to go away as the man started flirting with you. it should be expected. this wasn’t the best place to be hanging out, either.
you heard footsteps rushing up, and soon, a hand clamped around your wrist. you cried out as kirishima pulled you out of your seat.
“do you have an issue?” he demanded, eyes boring into the man’s.
the man licked his lips. “you seem like you have an issue, here.” his words slurred grossly. “we were over here minding our own business.”
“they don’t want it.” kirishima snapped.
“kirishima, i can handle this myself. you tried to shove off his grip. he let go, knowing that this wasn’t truly how he wanted to approach you.
“see?” the man said. “they’re fine.”
“get out of here.”
“kirishima, what’re you-”
the man put his hands up in surrender and wandered out.
you pushed kirishima back. “what the hell?”
“fine. be mad at me, but he was invading your space.”
your brow furrowed. “you’re one to talk! do i need to put some kind of restraining order on you? you keep following me everywhere.”
“not anywhere! this was a coincidence.”
you shook your head. “it’s pointless trying to argue with you. you’re so toxic!”
kirishima tongued the inside of his cheek. “think what you want, y/n. i could see you were uncomfortable, anyway.”
“no, kirishima. i don’t need your saving. i don’t need you to swoop in and pretend like you’re my hero. you’re not. don’t talk to me again unless you’ve grown the hell up.”
as if on queue, the bell rang and kirishima’s packaged dinner was presented in a paper bag. he gave you a good, long hard stare before taking his dinner and leaving.
your chest heaved with anger. you wanted to make him angry. if he felt romantic feelings towards you, you wanted to make him jealous.
you gave mina and kaminari a text that you’d be going home early. it was only a half-lie. you ran to hatsume’s dorm and knocked loudly. she opened the door without hesitation and grinned widely at the sight of you, already knowing you needed something.
kirishima was obviously so damn jealous of bakugou, wasn’t he? mina was right. he wouldn’t be able to compete. and you were going to make sure he knew that.
the blaring lights, the music louder than bakugou’s explosions. students disguised as their favorite characters.
it was hectic, you were right about that.
kirishima stood beside him. they’d both decided to dress in their hero costumes. the tension between them was still unspoken. they felt like strangers.
their eyes scanned the crowd, and bakugou’s landed on you first, kirishima following closely after.
he couldn’t help the warm, victorious feeling in his chest as he glanced to the side at kirishima’s expression.
kirishima’s chest caved in. you’d dressed in...who had made it?
“they’re dressed as...you,” he said, aghast.
bakugou grinned, watching you dance under the lights in your own rendition of his hero costume, that orange x crossing your chest oh-so-nicely.
Zimbits - Bartender!Jack + NHL!Bitty AU
Prompt: Retired NHL player Jack Zimmermann takes ownership of a sports bar in Pittsburgh and accidentally falls for the Penguins’ (closeted) new left winger.
A/N - just the start, I’d like to get around to more of this; the basic idea was an It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia AU, but I couldn’t manage to make everyone that terrible so Jack owns and operates a gay sports bar and starts crushing on one of his patrons.
“Can’t believe you’ve owned this place since ’89.” Jack coughs, waving the dust away from his face. “Did you ever come back after we moved home?”
It’d be disingenuous to say Jack had been expecting anything other than cigars and whiskey when his father had invited him on a trip down to Pittsburgh to see Mario and glad-hand some Penguins sponsors. In fact, he’d kind of been looking forward to sulking and getting shit-faced, not limping around a condemned building dodging roaches and rats.
“It was an investment opportunity. That was the trend back then, famous athletes buying up restaurants and clubs — I had big plans for this building. Then your mother got pregnant and I realized I didn’t really give two shits about running a nightclub.”
“Realized you were pretty lazy, huh?”
As Bob laughs, Jack picks at the peeling, lacquered bartop, trying not to imagine how many decades of grime he’s just collecting under his nail, the situation made even more disgusting in such close proximity to the glittering gold championship ring his father had insisted he wear to their lunch meeting with the Penguins front-office suits. Jack flicks the gunk away as Bob levels him with a weighty look, hands braced in the air as if outlining a play and not offering a tour of a cobweb-filled dive.
“Here’s my thought,” Bob says. “The bar. It’s yours.”
Jack leans against the counter, taking some weight off his braced leg, and asks, “What’s mine?”
“This place,” Bob gestures around the room. “The whole building. It’s just sitting here, empty, the bar, the liquor license, there’s apartments and office space upstairs, we’d just need to do some renovations and —“
Jack can’t help himself. He barks a laugh and says, “I’m not moving to Pittsburgh.”
“How many times have you and I talked about opening a sports bar? I’d wanted to get this place fixed up so it’d be ready when you retired, but since the final — you could make it a gay bar, even, if you wanted!” Bob says quickly, offering another awkward olive branch. “A gay sports bar. I wouldn’t care.”
“A gay sports bar. In Pittsburgh,” Jack echoes, reaching for a chirp to defend himself, but he closes him mouth as he realizes a sports bar run by a Zimmermann might not be a terrible investment idea. “The building needs a ton of work,” Jack settles. “I just saw a rat.”
“That was a mouse,” Bob dismisses, not bothering to look at the rat still clearly in view. “Nothing that can’t be fixed. Got a dollar?”
Jack pats his pockets, finds a spare looney and hands it over. Bob doesn’t hesitate, pulling an envelope out of his back pocket to exchange for the coin.
“Congratulations. You are now the proud owner of,” Bob looks around helplessly. “I actually don’t know what they call this place now. A Bar?”
“I’m sure we’ll figure something out.” Jack swallows against the tightness in his throat, holding the deed carefully in his hands. “Thanks, Dad.”
Bob brings Jack in for a loose hug and they both ignore the soft squeaking coming from the backroom.
Five Years Later
There’s a man examining the announcement board in the vestibule, and Jack knows that posture: the forward hip cant, thick thighs, a small but definite bubble butt — guy’s a hockey player, and he has been for some time.
“Hey. Hi.”
Blondie spins around at Jack’s address. Not quite startled, but something close enough that Jack feels a twinge of guilt. “You interested in playing in our beer league? You look like you might know your way around a rink.”
The man quickly looks at his chest, as if expecting to find something displayed, but relaxes immediately. Jack fights a grin, he was once old hat at wandering into public spaces decked out in identifiable team merch.
“Bitty.” The man squares up to offer his hand; his accent is warm and distinctly southern, not at all what Jack was expecting. “You can call me Bitty.”
“Oh, with a nickname like that, you have to play, now, no excuses,” Jack gives Bitty’s arm a firm shake, surprised at how complementary his grip is; not just an overcompensating bro who’s walked into the wrong club.
“If only I had the time,” Bitty placates wryly. “Is this place new?”
“Been here a few years, but not long. How about you? Are you ‘new’? In town, I mean.”
“Moved for work,” Bitty’s smile is timid, eyes darting around the room looking for other patrons, up at the memorabilia and the various pennants. “First year. Slowly learning the area.”
Jack doesn’t miss the way Bitty’s eyes linger on the Pride flag draped from the second floor railing, but Bitty doesn’t mention it, and Jack isn’t in the business of prying.
“Let me be the first to welcome you to The Bar.”
“I saw that outside, do you not have a name?”
“We weren’t creative. The owner didn’t realize he was filling in the wrong line on the business license so we are literally called ‘The Bar’.”
“That’s actually pretty solid,” Bitty laughs, the sound lifting Jack’s mood easily. “I’ll have to make sure I come back and patron your establishment at a reasonable hour.”
“What you aren’t interested at getting sloshed before noon?”
Bitty laughs, and Jack is enough of an adult to recognize he’s got a tiny bit of a crush.
______
True to form, Bitty slowly becomes a feature of Jack’s early afternoons. The first few weeks, he does little more than quietly purchase a single domestic beer before tucking himself away in a corner booth, hunched over his phone, ball cap pulled low for discretion. Jack gives him space, and aside from a few curious regulars, Bitty is little more than another closeted young man seeking quiet sanctuary.
That is, until, hockey kicks up and Mario hooks Jack up with season tickets beside the bench. It’d taken time for Jack to get comfortable with being in an arena again, especially without the ability to step onto the ice himself, but he’s acclimated and learned to appreciate his new lot in life. He can be happy for his success and mourn the end of his career with equal measure.
(Doesn’t hurt he still gets asked for autographs on the regular.)
Bittle, the new forward traded out of Columbus, spins to whip the puck between Lundqvist’s thighs and the score is 3-2 with a minute left in the third. Jack stands to cheer with the crowd as Bittle’s pulled into a celly with his line mates, and the new angle gives Jack a good look at the man’s sunny face, complete with a familiar, bright smile and missing canine. Jack’s heart leaps into his throat when he realizes Bittle is ‘Bitty’, and Jack can’t help but cheer louder.
________
After the game, Jack does his homework. Pulls up stats pages and articles on Eric Bittle. Looking to link the quiet hottie from his bar with the energetic man he saw tonight on the ice. If Jack wasn’t in love before, he absolutely is after watching highlights from Bittle’s time in Columbus.
The next time Jack finds Bitty slipping into the bar, probably between practice and a good nap, Jack makes his move; filling a pint glass, wedging an orange slice on the rim, and adjusting his shirt before striding to the corner booth as easily as one can with a titanium femur.
“On the house,” Jack says, setting down the glass gently. “Choice goal, Tuesday. Great bounce.”
Bitty’s grateful smile falters, turning into something guarded.
“What goal?” Bitty asks, voice steady, and Jack’s immediately alerted to his misstep. Jack casts a careful eye around the room and doesn’t find anyone watching, kicking himself for not thinking this through. He’s used to playing this game with guys who aren’t quite comfortable, who might be visiting with the wrong people, but he hasn’t had to do the closeted-pro-athlete dance in a while.
“You know, I must have been mistaken.”
“Happens all the time. Very sweet of you, though.” Bitty apologizes and pushes away the beer, but Jack waves him off. It’s the least Jack can do for calling the guy out.
“I should have known,” Jack tries to recover. “You’ve still got all your chiclets. But, between you and me, Bittle’s a spitfire, eh? Crazy soft hands. I’d like to meet him someday.”
Jack whistles low, rapping his knuckles on the table before turning back to the bar, moving slowly enough he catches the way Bitty’s cheeks flare pink at the compliment.
About thirty minutes later, Jack, half focused on counting down the till, nearly misses Bitty’s exit. He looks up to offer a parting wave, and Bitty returns the gesture, flashing a shy, incomplete smile; one canine missing on the left side.
________
“Anything new to report? Sales look good, think you might be able to take some time off and visit your poor parents?”
Jack slides open a window to let some air into his bedroom, not for the first time wishing he’d taken the chance to tear out a wall and convert a corner of the top floor into a balcony. There’s still time — his father never seems to wary of giving Jack renovation loans — but Jack loves his condo and hates the idea of relocating again, even temporarily.
“New distillery opened, cut a deal on some local gin. We’re working on drink specials, if you have any ideas for names I’m open,” Jack eases onto the windowsill and looks down at the line of people waiting to get into the bar. “And I met someone. Think he might be a hockey player.”
“No shit? Beer-league?”
“NHL.” Jack corrects, an edge of caution in his tone he knows his father won’t misinterpret. “Started coming around a few months ago, gave me a fake name. Went to a game last week, scored right in front of me.”
“Well, you going to tell me who or am I going to have to guess?”
“He’s keeping to himself,” Jack holds the curtain steady to catch sight of a particularly flashy person in a glittering teal gown, texting Holster to snag a photo for the bar’s Instagram. “Don’t go hunting.”
“Well, if he needs any help you let me know.”
“What could you do?”
“I don’t know. Talk to . . . someone. I guess.”
“I’ll keep that under advisement.” Jack placates, smiling at the saucy photo Ransom texts back immediately of Holster lifting their favorite Drag Race runner-up above his head like something out of Dirty Dancing.
“So.”
“Mmm?”
“Does this mean you’ve got a little boyfriend, again?”
Jack leans out over the railing and tries to see if the universe has blessed him with a sighting of his favorite new Left Winger. Sadly, it’s Saturday evening and the Penguins are in Dallas, so no Eric tonight.
“Working on it.” Jack offers, rapping his knuckles lightly against the window sill and trying not to think about the way Bittle’s face lights up when he sees that Jack is working. “Think I might really have a shot at something.”
“Well, you know what Wayne always says.”
“I do,” Jack breathes, pressing his forehead against the cool glass, taking in his one-of-a-kind view of the city. “I’ll let you know how it goes. Once he gets back.”
“ — You know, I’ve got the game on right now. I bet you $1000 I can tell who you’ve got the hots for. You have a specific type — ”
“Papa.”
“Okay, I won’t.”
“Thank you.”
“But it’s the kid we just got from the Blue Jackets, isn’t it. Bittle? You always like the fast ones — ”
“Goodnight, Papa.”
