The date well it was actually good and thus calmed some of my anxiety. So I was able to go back to bed and actually sleep and do well on the test. After the test I waved over Harry, “Library during free period?” I asked.

“Yeah? I like that… I’m going to go get the paints!” I hummed hopping up and headed out.

Harry was always supportive of my little oddities and he always wanted to help when I was an anxious mess. I sat in bed waiting for Harry to get home from work, I had the day off but unfortunately he didn’t. So I spent the day taking it easy. But an hour before Harry got home I got myself together enough to go make him dinner. He came home and wrapped his arms around me, “Smells great, love.” He hummed.

“Glad you think so… how was your day?” I asked.

“Stressful… Malfoy is a pompous ass who loves to make an ass of himself!”

“Oh? What happened this time?” I hummed as I leaned back into him.

He squeezed me before going to sit down and letting me make him his plate, “You know, the usual bull shit.” He slumped down, “You know how I told you about that trial? … well you see the dick head couldn’t stop interrupting me during my interrogation.”

I chuckled as I set down our plates at the table, “Isn’t that apart of his job?”

He groaned, “Baby! You are supposed to be on my side!”

I giggled, “Oh, I’m sorry baby… let me start over. Hmm… that asshole! Is that better?”

He smiled, “Much. Now how was your day?”

I shrugged, “You weren’t here so I just napped most of the day… just got up to make you dinner really.”

He took a big bite of his food, “that sounds like a good day. Thank you for getting up to make me dinner, it tastes amazing! So I was wondering if you could get the last week of next month off because I was hoping we could go on a cruise with my uncles.”

I gave him a nervous smile shifting uncomfortably, “I’m sorry but I don’t know if that’s a good idea… Remus is lovely but Sirius makes me feel uncomfortable.”

Harry nodded, “I understand… but this cruise ship will be massive if he becomes too much then we can just find another area for a break.”

I raised my eyebrows, “your uncle has no ability to back off. Or boundaries.”

“Remus has promised to help get him to behave and Sirius himself said that pranks on or near you would be off the table as it’ll be an enclosed space and he knows none of us will be talking or socializing with him if he does anything to upset you. So you know… I know he’s a bit much but he won’t hurt you ever. I know he makes you anxious but he raised me and it would mean a lot if you could go on this family outing. Maybe come out of that introverted shell for just a little while. I love you as is but it would be nice if you ventured out every once in awhile.”

“He promised no pranks?” I asked tentatively.

“On you.” He corrected.

“Make it no pranks in general we both know how they go wrong, and it’s a deal.”

“Okay then he’ll have to make sure that you’re with him when he does them cuz he doesn’t know how to behave that much.”

“I will settle for just knowing the details. But okay.”

I sat on our bed with an empty suit case trying to think of what I needed but wasn’t really sure as I had never been on one of those things.

“Babe… oh?” Harry stopped in his tracks holding a few bathing suits in different cuts. “What’s happening here?”

“I don’t know what to pack.” I whispered.

He set down what he had and began to go through my things “Well we should have one jogger set as it’s supposed to be warm but it’s good to have something just in case. Now you just need your toiletries, flip flops, to pick out your bathing suit and maybe some sunglasses. Oh!” He goes back to the dresser and grabs a handful of my underwear and plops them into the bag. “Nearly forgot to pack you some panties. That is probably needed.”

I blushed profusely, “Thanks babe… now what did you come in for?”

He smiled, “well I got some new bathing suits but I’m not sure what style I want. What do you think?”

“Great, I will return the others. So excited!”

The day came when we were to head to the cruise and I had on a nice sun dress, a sun hat with sunglasses and white shoes. Harry matched his shirt to my dress and we met his uncles at the boarding area. “(Y/n), it’s good to see you.” Remus smiled as he extended his arms.

“You too… Sirius.” I acknowledge as I give Remus a hug.

“(Y/n)… so we all ready?” Sirius boomed.

We boarded the ship and headed to our conjoining rooms. The room was very nice and I couldn’t say it wasn’t comfortable, which helped my anxiety. I sat on the edge of the bed as Harry placed our clothes in the dresser. “This might be nice.” I hummed.

Harry looked over his shoulder with a smile, “Yeah? I hope so too. I know it’s not easy for you but I’ve been looking forward to this and I know that you get nervous about these things. So you feeling good?”

“Yeah… you know how I get. But right now I feel like I did when we first started dating.”

“Nervous but focused?” He chuckled.

“Yep… you know me well. So now what?”

“In an hour we’ll need to go to orientation and then we’ll have time to explore the ship.”

I nodded, “Okay so we have some time?”

He shrugged as he finished up and came to sit with me, “Yep, do you want to see if Remus and Sirius want to go over the itinerary?”

I nodded quickly and almost on cue his uncles entered the room through the adjoining room door. “You kids decent?” Sirius laughed.

I turned red while Harry simply threw an arm around me and squeezed, “Yeah, just got settled in and were about to go ask you to join us in planning the day.”

Remus nodded, “That’s a good idea, we have orientation today, then we should figure out where things are. Then stop for lunch. After lunch I already signed us up for an art class. Then some free time we could use to finish exploring the ship. Dinner and then we can stop by the theater. Today is mostly just traveling but tomorrow the good stuff will start.”

“Sounds like you already had that planned out.” Harry laughed.

“Of course, though I’m surprised (y/n) hasn’t already planned it.”

“It’s not my trip to plan and luckily Remus is like me in planning.” I chuckled nervously.

Sirius rolled his eyes, “Neither one of you know how to relax.”

“Planning is relaxing.” Remus and I corrected.

Harry laughed and kissed my shoulder, “Well I appreciate it. But I think it’s time to head out.”

The day was easy and actually relaxing. When we got back I started to strip down to get ready for bed. Harry came up behind me and pulled me into his arms. “Come on baby get on the bed, I’m hungry.” I leaned back against him, “No need for clothes.”

I thought I'd start with my thoughts about My Policeman as a movie and an adaptation of Beth Roberts book, before I move into the many, many meta questions that are rolling around my head. I'm very bad at tagging spoilers - but I'll put in a read more.

I really enjoyed the movie. Lots was really well done. Like in the book Patrick's viewpoint sections were most compelling, and the 1950s were more interesting than 1999.

The decision to structure it to mimic the book so we saw Marion's view first was incredibly effective. (Except maybe it didn't help people's views of Harry's acting. He's supposed to be a bit off and awkward in those sections - but I can see how if you don't have a lot of faith in him or know the structure of the book it doesn't look like a choice and then if you already don't believe him its hard to be reeled back in). Cutting back round to specific scenes was incredibly well done (although I'm not going to start on my feelings of the hand touching now, because once I start there there's no escaping the meta).

I thought all the acting was fantastic. The echoes between the characters were incredibly well done. And I do think Harry really works, both as an object of desire - but also as someone who is very in love and open and excited by being in love (again if I say anything more there is no escaping the meta discourse). David was incredible. But when talking about acting it's hard not just to focus on Emma's face during the sex scenes between Tom and Marion. In some ways the whole movie depends on her face telling us exactly what is going on - and they do a completely spectacular job.

I thought the sex scenes were amazing in every way. Beautifully acted, incredibly well directed. The scenes between Tom and Patrick emphasised both intimacy and desire and had space to be able to explore them both. The contrast with the sex scenes with Marion and Tom was pitched perfect in every way.

In general, both Tom and Patrick are much more committed and much less afraid than they are in the book. We lose all of Patrick's fear and part of having Harry play Tom as he does is that you really get a sense of how strong his feelings are for Patrick - not lost behind Patrick's thoughts and feelings. I really liked that, particularly together with how much time they spent on intimacy.

There were areas of the movie that I thought were weaker and decisions I disagreed with. A combination of script choices around the adaptation and aesthetic choices around character.

To me, the way Tom talked about being a police officer was super jarring and very different from the book (as well as not being that in tune with the specificities of the police forces in 1950s Britain). I thought it was real shame that they erased Tom's complicated views of the police for such boring cliches. I think it did damage to the character and is part of a wider missing of class dynamics.

It looked beautiful, but every time there was a choice between aesthetically pleasing and character appropriate they chose aesthetically pleasing. This seemed particularly notable in Marion and Tom's house when they were young, but was also present in the costumes of young Marion and young Tom (in general the movie was both imprecise about class and not very interested in it outside broad brushes and I think that was a shame and surprised me a little bit).

Those decisions felt vaguely connected to one of the big issues for me, which was the way that the movie downplayed Marion's awkward relationship with femininity and the possibility of her queerness. I understand why some of the exact scenes in the book couldn't stay. But I think that element of the character could have.

I thought we lost a lot, by not having more of Julia and Marion's friendship. Both because of that element of queerness, but also because it gives more of a sense of who Marion was and the ways she was engaged with the world (I wanted them to film the Brighton CND scene in the Quakers building, because I've been there).

I was sad that they'd cut out the explicit implication that Tom had had sex with men both before and after Patrick (and I had so hoped to hear Harry say 'I meet men, sometimes I have sex with them, please don't ask me again), but I don't think that what we saw negated that possibility. I was also a little confused by people suggesting that seeing Patrick's caregiver and his partner was the first time Tom had seen a happy gay couple. Nothing in the movie implied that to me.

I think they should have cut the prison violence scene it added nothing to the movie or the story. In the book it has a purpose - it's contrasting Patrick's inability to stop talking and its consequences with Tom's inability to speak and its consequences. It felt gratuitous (and the time could have been better used on Marion's queerness and Julia).

I also felt that there was a little too many lingering shots during the 1999 scenes. I'm not an editor and I don't know that much about film language, so they may have been necessary. But I felt that the lingering shots of people having feelings or thinking slowed things down without adding anything. The scenes in the present were much more interesting when things happened (except that scene with a wheelchair on the beach - lots of questions about that. Like how did they go through the logistics of filming it without realising what a mistake it was). I also thought that making the house feel more 1999 would have made those scenes feel more alive.

But I thought the ending was incredibly effective and in many ways more so than the book. Gina McKee was incredible. But what most stood out to me was her telling Tom that he needed to look after someone. That directly addressed some really important aspects of Tom's character and gave the ending a hope for Tom and Patrick that wasn't there in the book.

buuuuut excited from your upcoming fic astrea x voldemort snippets, they got me salivating would you count this as reverse harem? 🫣 i’d love to read the dynamic differences of each voldemort from various of time frames, and to read them beefing over astrea or his horcruxes insulting voldemort like “you can do better that that” for losing the first war(i can see a little shit teenager tom riddle saying it), it makes sense that his worthy competitors are his own self/creation. will voldemort lose his shit over that? cause i love me some unhinged snake face voldemort😏

will you reveal in the tags a as voldemort wins au? and the type of ending? or are you going to keep the reader on their toes, letting the characters move on their own in your mind?

though i got a feeling this will be a merry-bad ending (fucked up tragedy from outsiders’ pov but the main characters themselves are happy)

Thank you so much! And what a journey it was! There were so many sub-plot I didn't see coming but that worked so well within the story I couldn't just *not* write them.

For the upcoming fic, yeah, I'd say it's reverse harem even it's technically the same person but...three times. There is sweet, innocent Astrea, sixteen-year-old Tom Riddle and Voldemort and then some time later Mr Gaunt joins into the fun as well. It'll be a dark fic. Voldemort isn't nice and his past selfs certainly weren't either.

Voldemort is pretty much the same as I write him always, very manipulative, charming and he can be 'nice' if he wants to.

Tom Riddle is certainly influenced by the years he has spend with Astrea already, I think consuming someone's soul leaves its traces lol. He is trapped in that moment right after killing Myrtle with the Basilik and creating his first Horcrux. So he's ofc also emotionally stuck at sixteen.

Mr Gaunt, the locket, was created some time before Voldemort's downfall, I put it somewhere between 1965 and 1970 personally. He is older, has a more 'refined' taste in cruelty and was at the height of his power before his 'death'. He still has his human features but he isn't quite human anymore. Kinda uncanny valley style. Astrea can feel that something is off and it scares her.

All Voldemorts find her fear entertaining but all Voldemorts have their own aspirations and all Voldemorts are jealous and wildly possessive - even towards each other. I am very much looking forward to writing them interact and exploring different facets of the same character. Voldemort is such an interesting character!

They are each unhinged in their own way! And Tom, because he has already spend so much time by Astrea's side, already considers her 'his' so that'll result in some delicious conflict.

I am not sure yet if the other Horcruxes make an appearance too. Nagini is there but her Horcrux is different, it doesn't seem to really manipulate the world around her like the diary does - same goes for Harry. I like the idea of the diadem, cup and ring joining but idk if I could make more than three believable and yet different versions of Voldemort. Also the whole name thing would get confusing. Thomas, Riddle and Marvolo perhaps but eh.

The fic is both canon-divergent and a Voldemort-wins-au. The diary never reaches Hogwarts so the entire second year wouldn't happen like it does in the novels and the adults act...more intelligent lol xD Astrea herself also influences several events.

I have an idea how the fic will end but that might still change, I can see this fic getting potentially quite long 😅 So I will for now not say much about that other than that I personally don't like bad endings full of misery and death and hopelesness.

Your fanfic has converted me to shipping Tom/Raco. I was wondering what other rare pairs interest you and why?

Mine is Draco and Dudley- there are lots of parallels between the two of them- both were bullies who were awful to Harry, spoiled by their deeply prejudiced parents. There's something about them intimately knowing what is like to be cruel and grow up in a toxic environment where your parents love you but they are awful to others and failed you in some way. I would love to see a fanfic that explores those themes and the long difficult path towards redemption.

I also like Tom Riddle/Ron- I think that there are dark elements of Ron's character would let him be drawn and potentially seduced by Tom and both share a desire to stand out and I found it really interesting that Ron's Mirror of Erised- he sees himself being Head Boy and Quiddich captain. I think that Tom can understand the desire for recognition and to have accolades. I also found it really cool that Ron could minick/speak Parseltongue well enough that the Chamber of Secret opened for him. It's fun imagining Tom teaching Ron phrases in Parseltongue. My personal headcanon is that Parseltongue can be learnt but it's extremely difficult and it would require a patient native speaker and I imagine that historically native Parseltongue speakers would prize its rarity and status and makes it easier to keep secrets within the family so they would have no incentive to want to teach others.

I can see the appeal of Draco/Dudley. I do think they're two sides of the same spoiled-rotten coin. And I'm always interested in more nuanced portrayals of Ron. One thing I like about him in canon is that he still has so much growing, maturing and changing to do post Book 7.

As for my own favourite rarepairs, tbh I will give any Draco or Tom ship a fair go

I suppose some particular faves are:

Draco/Neville: I think Neville's steady, down to earth nature would balance Draco's... everything. Also I think Draco is the type to complain to the manager when they make Neville's order wrong.

Draco/Sirius: Spicy 🔥

Tom or Vee/Gellert: I support this & have two fic ideas for it. Just gonna add it to the ever-mounting pile of plot bunnies.

Tom/Cedric: this is the crackiest of crackships, but I read @duplicitywrites's fic and was converted.

Snape/Lockhart: I read Draco Malfoy and the Mirror of Ecidyrue and found Lockhart's crush really funny. As a Lockhart fan, I support this.

Lucius/Bella: I ship this platonically as much as anything (how i feel about most het). Their dynamic, especially in the First War, is so amusing for me to think about. Absolute polar opposites. Was reading Order of the Phoenix recently and realised how much I like Lucius. He's perhaps the most 'reasonable' and sane of the Death Eaters, yet so casual about murdering children. You just know he's done absolutely abhorrent things.

Draco/Ginny: is this a rarepair? I feel like it was popular at least once upon a time. Anyway I like the idea of their dynamic. I think she'd crush him like a snail.

didn’t want to reblog this to add to it coz I haven’t actually seen the ep yet w my own eyeballs but wanted to get this down before I forget (but I’ll tap the op @evcndiaz and the awesome tags by @fruitydiaz thank u for the brainworms, comrades)

maybe Buck seeing Chris there, and things related to Chris (like the Ferris wheel) are related to this ep being all about parents and children? plus, Buck’s whole thing w the sperm donor plotline is about his clear desire to have children, and his weird blind spot when it comes to the child he has in his life already. Like as much as Buck really needs to work through the trauma of the shooting to make any kind of theoretical potential romantic relationship with Eddie successful, he also needs to work through his own childhood trauma and his ideas of parenthood (and how that directly ties into his lack of self worth and warped importance he places on his physical utility) before he could acknowledge himself as a parent to Chris.

Like it’s NOT just that we haven’t seen them touch the trauma of the shooting! They ALSO haven’t touched on the will again, not between Eddie and Buck, but also not between Chris and either one of them.

ESPECIALLY now that Eddie is repairing his relationship with his parents, like, just hear me out coz I swear I’m going somewhere with this, but the cynic in me feels like aw man are they gonna bring it up again when Eddie says “hey my parents are being nice to me again so imma put them back down as Chris’s number one?” but tbh that would be rly ooc for the show, like that’s just really not their vibe overall (but it WOULD be something Buck would think if he’s feeling down) I mean, sometimes the things the show ends up trying to about parents and family rub me the wrong way but like 80% of the time I really love their ideas about chosen family and family ties in general.

After rewatching some of s2&3 recently I am also reminded of some of the very strong parallels between Buck & Eddie and Michael & Bobby, and so another cynical side of me wonders if they’re leading to another interesting take on a chosen/blended family. which tbh if I wasn’t like “shipping” buddie I think me personally, with my own messy family history, I would find fucking FASCINATING, but there’s def a part of me that would be v disappointed if no buddie endgame and also idk if I trust the show enough to actually say interesting things about chosen family in that way but anyways what I’m getting at is:

IF (just play this hypothetical game w me for a sec) Buck and Eddie are being set up to end up with their own new love interests and those end up being long term partners, HOW does that impact Chris? And what agency does Chris have in this situation, to choose who gets to remain as family? Like if Eddie got a new gf and then they got married, the wife would be assumed to automatically end up as Chris’s guardian in the event. But is that what Chris would want? Even if he likes the new person is that what he would want? There have been plenty of fics I’ve read that discuss what it might look like for Buck and Eddie and their respective new partners if they end up seriously dating anyone new, but very few of them ever truly touch on Chris and his feelings and decisions in that situation. Plus, bc the fics are all buddie endgame, they’re not set up to make new characters that are likable or whatever (which is valid but it just means I haven’t seen this specific dynamic explored before).

But when you look at the Grant-Nash family (and whatever David’s last name is lol) like, the show didn’t make the kids choose! And yeah it went backwards, Bobby and Michael became friends after the fact but like. Athena and David get along. And Harry and May get along w all four adults. And we even get continued bonding scenes between Athena and Michael (until Michael doesn’t show up anymore for meta reason). So in theory, if Buck and Eddie were to end up romantically partnered off with new people, the show has a very strong precedent of allowing them to remain close friends, and for allowing Chris to be part of both of those new family structures. BUT bc it’s a family of choice, AND bc he’s basically a teenager now, it would (/should?) actually come down to being HIS choice, too. Which is what I find fascinating.

And honestly the show is going there! Because there’s the stuff with Denny and his birth father at the end of 6.09!!! And even in 6A with Harry CHOOSING to go live with Michael and David. The kids are growing up, y’all 😭🥺

So anyways back to Buck 😂

I guess my point is that it seems like this season especially has highlighted the kids in the show growing into their own agency. Harry is a little older and definitely started it with his arc last season, but choosing to go live w his dad was a big step and that was the beginning of this season. Chris was keeping secrets and fighting w Eddie and going to his first dance etc etc so, setting him up to actively CHOOSE Buck in some capacity, independent of Eddie, I think would be amazing and would fucking blow Buck’s mind tbh!!!

Like I was thinking in one of the later 6A episodes they’re all in the truck and Eddie is like “he’s not kissing anyone, right? right?” And Buck just raises his hands like “I’m not telling” as if maybe he has insider info lol and that’s a common fic trope and I love to see it. But we haven’t gotten to see it onscreen, no chill exclusively just “Buck and Chris” time, EXCEPT when either Buck or Eddie are in or recovering from some time of peril (or when Eddie is moving on and dating someone new which I will come back to in a sec)! Coz the tsunami arc was bc Buck was recovering from the truck/embolism, and Buck living with him was bc Eddie was shot and in the hospital, and when Chris calls Buck in 5B it’s during Eddie’s breakdown.

And then, the other times we see JUST Chris and Buck, it’s when he flees to Buck’s apartment when Eddie says he’s dating someone else. And we don’t actually get to see them both onscreen but they do spend time alone together when Buck babysits so Eddie can go out with Ana.

So I’m not totally sure where I’m going with this but it’s like: what does the show demonstrate EXPLICITLY and ONSCREEN? It’s Buck and Chris being paired together when Buck or Eddie have been in serious danger, OR when Eddie is seeking a new romantic partner.

Which to ME seems like it might be demonstrating somethin that we all know but that the show has NOT demonstrated that BUCK believes, which is that Chris is Buck’s family, with Eddie (which we get to see LOTS of) or without, whether the “without” is because of infirmity or because of new family structures being built. And when Chris is young, it’s Eddie making that choice for him, but as he’s growing up he’s gonna start making that choice for himself.

Which is what I think is important for Buck! Bc I think he still sees himself as a stopgap, the backup plan, whatever it is he says to Bobby right after the shooting. But I have this sickening feeling that (as I mentioned near the beginning of this ramble) if Buck knew how far Eddie has come repairing his relationship with Ramón, he would think “ah okay I’m finally obsolete.” And then, if after that Eddie started dating someone seriously again? He would KNOW he was obsolete. And he would know that he’s no longer necessary as a backup plan. That he’s no longer Eddie’s lifeline as a newly transplanted single dad, so he doesn’t need to be the fallback anymore. Eddie now has a partner and his “real” family, so Buck, having lost his utility to the Diaz family, can fade away. (for the record I think it’s heinous how easy it is to slip into that “I’m only worth something if I’m doing something for someone else” Buck mindset skfjskfj and obviously I don’t believe any of these statements it’s just one potential bad brain path for Buck to take)

Except!!!!!!!! If Chris chose him, regardless of his dad’s relationships with their Texas family or new romantic relationships, Buck wouldn’t be able to deny him! He might half heartedly try, but he knows intimately what it means to choose your own parental figures. He might not know what it’s like to choose them even if you have good ones already, but he’s not gonna undermine Chris like that. And if Eddie backs Chris up, Buck might finally really truly feel, once and for all, the familial love they’ve been pouring out for him for all these years.

So anyways that’s a huge ramble about why it makes sense for me, from a characterization perspective, for Buck to have Chris show up in his coma dream but not Eddie. And personally I love it, bc all three of the boys (Harry, Chris and Denny) remind me viscerally of my brother in their own little ways and so I get verklempt anytime any one of them gets a storyline lol

Here are some of my favs: Like Lightning at Your Fingertips by potterwatch (Teen, one shot) This is genuinely one of the loveliest fics I've ever read, it's eighth year, Draco and Harry end up as roommates, the writing is excellent, the exploration of how magic works in this world is done really really well and there's just something very sincere about the relationship that develops between Harry and Draco, cannot recommend enough

Make Me a Headline (I Want to Be That Bold) by dicta_contrion - (Explicit, multi-chapter, completed), it's post-war, Draco runs the Daily Prophet, Harry and him have a history, one day a compromising photo of Harry lands on Draco's desk and he has to decide what he wants to do with it, the writing is very good, very quippy, and there are some genuinely sweet moments in here

In Which Harry is Magnetic North and Draco Is An Idiot by bryoneybrynn (Teen, one shot) this is super cute, post-war Draco needs a fake date to his Parents Christmas party, Harry volunteers, but is it fake? Is it? Lots of boys being bad at communicating feelings and general adorableness

The Seeker by kedavranox (Explicit, multi-chapter, completed), post-war, Harry is a pro Quidditch Player, Draco is working with the International Association of Quidditch aka he helps regulate the sport and there's a new doping scandal, this really plays into my love of sports romances, the plot is great, we get some Oliver Wood in there which is always a bonus in my opinion, and the complicated relationship between Harry and Draco is all you could ask for Freedom to Be by Quicksilvermaid (Explicit, multi-chapter, completed) , post-war, Harry is an unhappily married man frustrated at his job when one day he wanders into a BDSM club, Draco is a single dad getting over the loss of his wife, trying to make amends through charity, and...running his own business... Listen, I recommend this fic all the time because it's honestly I think my favourite portrayal of these two characters and their dynamic, and the way BDSM is used in this plot to explore character and trauma is done very very well and very thoughtfully, so like 10/10 would recommend

The Shape of the World by bixgirl1 (Explicit, multi-chapter, completed) post-war, After the battle of Hogwarts Harry Potter disappears and no one can find him for years until one day Draco Malfoy is walking down a beach in Venice California and he sees a familiar face, the plot is super interesting, the relationship between Draco and Harry is amazing, it's a good one! :) :) :)

Dramione Recommendations

Ok so, 2020 has been A LOT but on a personal note one of the most surprising things to happen was me discovering Dramione fanfiction and becoming unashamedly obsessed with it. I really didn’t see that coming but I’m here now and I’m here to stay.

I think I started reading in the Dramione fandom around mid July last year?? (In all honesty I’ve lost any true sense of time’s progression at this point so I could be well off the mark with that) And I’ve decided to compile a list of all my favourite fics I’ve read so far. Why? I really just want to gush over all the amazing writers I have found through this fandom because y’all deserve it.

Side note: If any of the authors actually sees this post just dm so I can buy you coffee or post you writing supplies or something idk I feel like that’s the least I can do for all your amazing work x

Remain Nameless by @heyjude19-writing

Ok I have to start with RN because this fic is pretty much the sole reason I decided to create an account with A03 or a tumblr or just decided to get involved with this fandom at all.

I headcannon this story hard. But I think even if you aren’t a fan of Dramione you should just read this because it is so unbelievably good and well written and poignant and Draco’s sarcastic personality in this is truly a thing of beauty in this - I relate to his inner monologue’s on a deep personal level.

I could rave about this story any time, any day of the week, just ask me. In fact, maybe I’ll just start a HeyJude19 fan club to fulfill that urge.

There are so many elements that I love but for the sake of brevity, RN is a beautifully told story of Draco and Hermione finding love and healing in a post-war HP setting. Heyjude19 had the very special ability of making me want to simulatenously laugh, cry and swoon with the power of her words. Just stop what you are doing and go read it now if you havent already, ok?

I also really enjoyed reading Bells on a Hill, Beers, Potions and Unwise Notions and A Shift in Focus, if you are looking for smaller fics, definitely give these a go. They are all funny and heartfelt stoires that will make your tippy toes wriggle with glee.

The Rights and Wrongs Series by @lovesbitca8

The Right Thing To Do, All The Wrong Things and The Auction are the holy trinity of Dramione writing. I have christened it thus, so mote it be. And frankly I’m not interested in any other opinion than that one, thank you very much!

After reading this series I don’t think I’ll be able to look back on the orginal HP books without thinking of Hermione’s and Draco’s memories of their time at Hogwarts in these fics as anything other than strictly cannon.

So many things to love about this series but I think one of the major highlights was Hermione and Draco’s use of occlumency. LoveBitca8 created such beautiful visuals with how occlumency works as a magical practice and seeing Draco and Hermione so devoted to eachother to the point of safeguarding their inner most feelings to protect eachother was unbelievably romantic and poetic.

Also the smut is divine ;)

Manacled by @senlinyu

My heart will never be the same after reading this story. Like I actually can’t think about this fic without getting a lump at the back of my throat. I have never felt so emotionally ruined after reading anything, compared to the likes of this fic. Just please, please read it. To badly quote HP, reading Manacled will make you suffer but you’re going to be happy about it.

The flashbacks are a rollercoaster in of themselves but the way Hermione inadvertently refers to them when she is still in a state of memory loss was so heartbreaking to read. My heart still aches for them both. Also its a truly satisfying to see Draco and Hermione written in a way were they are both so fiercly protective of one another. They make my insides go soft.

I also really enjoyed Snow Fall, Now Is A Gift and All You Want by the author but to be honest anything written by Senlinyu is always thoroughly enjoyable and worth a look.

The Erised Effect by @adaprix

Ada is QUEEN of dramione smut but ‘The Erised Effect’ is top tier. Its equal parts funny, romantic, sentimental and oh so sexy. Ada really knows how to build and build on sexual tension and doesn’t disappoint on the final delivery. I’m a big admirer of her writing style and just veraciously read whatever she posts but ‘The Erised Effect’ is just golden. A must read. (Also Pansy’s sexual fantasy in this story is a visual I don’t think I’ll ever be able to remove from my brain so thanks for that Ada)

Also quick side note: Adaprix’ stories were the first I read when I was looking into this fandom and it was enough to get me hooked on the pairing from the get go so I have that to thank Ada for too. I remember devouring all the stories she had posted to A03 and when I was done I was like... now what am I supposed to do with my life?? And that’s basically when I began to look deeper into the fandom and thus the course of my life in 2020 changed for the better.

Some other stories I love by her are Break for Me, All My Sins, The Big 4-0, The Fucklust Series and The Flat in Bath.

This 6th Year AU where Draco and Hermione work together on a class assignment and end up falling in love had me feeling all kinds of ways when I read it. I almost don’t know where to start but I think one of the stand out things for me was how immersed I felt in reading it.

Hogwarts is captured really well, you get a good sense of class atmospheres, character nuances and behind the scenes of events that happen in HBP but from a Draco and Hermione’s perspectives. It’s well executed and intricate tapestry of a fic. With an excellent plot twist ending!

Also Hermione and Draco’s relationship in this is equal parts fluffy and smutty and it just ticks all the right boxes that you want to see for those characters ;)

Breath Mints / Battle Scars by @onyx-and-elm

The angst in this one is just *chef’s kiss*

God I love this fic. The way Draco is portrayed is very true to his defensive and tetchy character in the original books but he is also given so much more depth. The way his diary entries are written are just so well executed. It’s a true testament to the author’s creative writing skill. And I LOVE how even though Draco is clearly in such a messed up place, he still has a basic level of self respect and dignity that he won’t tolerate being used or undervalued in his relationship with Hermione.

Yep, I really love Draco’s characterisation in this one if you can’t tell. But Hermione is also well written too. Her stuggles and trauma of returning to Hogwarts after war is described in a believable and grounded way. And my heart definitely ached for them both. I just wanted to wrap the pair of them in a big fuzzy blanket and tell them that everything will be alright.

WANDS OUT! by @persephonestone

This murder mystery / Dramione / Theo x Harry / AU crossover is everything I didn’t know I wanted until I read it. I felt like I was picked up and plonked right into an alternative dimension where all the characters of HP are just living it up in an Agatha Christie novel.

It’s a funny and clever story that I found refreshing to read amongst all the other fanfics that are usually cemented in the HP timeline or universe. Theodore Nott in this fic is perfection he should be written like this in every fic from now on in my opinion. I couldn’t stop giggling any time he had a scene in the story.

And the ‘only one bed’ trope in this fic is 10/10. I don’t want to give spoilers but ohmygod. It hits all the right notes.

The One With Technical Difficulties by cassielassie

Cassielassie has an excellent three part series of Dramone called ‘The One with...” but I have to give special credit to this story in particular for one main reason. ELEVATOR TROPES. I can’t get enough of em. I think I have my early childhood viewings of NCIS to thank for my obsession with elevator tropes they just do something to me that simply cannot be explained with mere words. The palpable sexual tension of being in a broken down elevator with an ‘enemies to lovers’ pairing, a heated arguement breaks out followed by a discovery of mutual feelings and a romantic embrace...

Eugh. It gets me everytime. And this fic is no exception. I loved it for all the reasons I’ve already stated above but also for the attention to detail in Draco and Hermione’s careers makes this one particularly immersive. The dynamics between them established in this one-shot are convincingly portrayed and the chemistry between them is so undeniably hot.

The Light is No Mystery by @masterofinfinities

Yooo if you want to read a dramione fic that is a deep dive into Pureblood culture and Post-War recovery but is also a perfect allegory for discrimination and today’s political landscape of moral grandstanding for votes then look no further than this one.

This story has a bit of everything. Intrigue, mystery, ptsd and recovery, enemies to lovers / secret relationship, government conspiracy and humour, to name a few. I eargerly await every update to this story and am anxious to know how it ends!

The Eagle’s Nest by HeartOfAspen

Finally! A fic that gives me the Ravenclaw representation I crave. I think I could recommend this fic on the lore depicted of Ravenclaw house alone. ‘The Stacks’ and Rowena Ravenclaw’s own ‘come and go room’ are just such cool details that I could see being real in the HP universe.

This fic is so cosy and makes me feel like I’m just popping back into Hogwarts for another year. You get to see all the usuals like prof. Mcgongall, Nearly headless Nick, PEEVES, Hagrid, as well as learn more about minor characters from the other school houses. The story follows Hermione going to her day to day classes and there are interesting concepts about magic and alchemy that are explored.

Draco and Hermione’s relationship in this one is of course very fluffy and heartfelt. But it’s the attention to detail that really makes this fic outstanding and the experience of reading it feels fleshed out and true to HP universe.

A shorter fic by HeartofAspen that I recommend is one called Set in Stone, it has an adventurous, Indianna Jones vibe to it, that I am so down for.

Teachable Moments by @purplesugarquills

In this fic Hermione is an innocent little virgin determined to learn everything about sex. And Draco Malfoy is her tutor. If that isn’t enough to get you on board then I don’t know what is. Both Heartfelt and Steamy. PurpleSugarQuills writes smut so well but it’s the progression of their growing attachment and the nervous treading of new uncharted waters of romantic relationships for both of them that just adds a whole other level of feels to the story. Also chapter 9 is like reading poetry - its so good. Eugh just give it a read if you haven’t already.

Les Pèlerins by @pacific-rimbaud

This story is high art. It’s transcendent. Reading this story feels like the emotional equivalent of standing around a hundred glowing fairy lights, sipping hot cocoa and being wrapped in the loving embrace of a s/o. I can’t speak my praises highly enough or even become passably coherent in my words when I try to articulate a review.

From the very first paragraph I felt like I was just whisked away on a Parisian holiday and I’ve never even bloody been to Paris but damn it if this story didn’t make me feel like I was there. The writing style is just so tactile and intense it’s like I could feel the cold winter air brush against me as I read it. Eugh I just completely fell in love with the story and the writer.

give me forever for a while by mercutionotromeo (E, 5K) This one involves a collar, but in a slightly different way – this time it’s kitten play. I always love the way this author writes their smut and this one is full of dirty talk and soft dom Louis using Harry.

redder than the devil by mercutionotromeo (E, 5K) This short fic has so many kinks and so much smut that I probably could add it to 10 different rec lists. I love this author and hope they keep gifting us with their writing.

Sodalite & Aventurine by @forreveries (E, 81K) Gay pirate adventure that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Amazing chemistry, great world building, super sexy smut, and beautiful writing. Do yourself a favor and read it!

Fertile Ground by SirTrancelot (E, 4K) This author explores gender and body acceptance in a way I haven’t seen done much in this fandom, and their writing is so moving. Like, every line packs a punch. This one, in particular, is such a moving portrait of Harry’s struggles with how others see him and how he sees himself, and Louis’ support as they figure it out together.

May We Stay Lost On Our Way Home by LoadedGunn (E, 74K) Famous!Harry meets fairy!Louis. Yep. Mix in this author’s always incredibly hot smut, magic, quirky characters, and this is just a great read.

Never Never Never Stop for Anyone (Sheylinsonverse) by aimmyarrowshigh, spibsy (lucy_and_ramona) Yes, here I am again, putting this series on a list. Probably 10 people in this fandom like it as much as I do, but I don’t care. I have read all 440K words more than once, and will likely do it a few more times. Yes, it needs editing, but even so…really well written, super sexy (if you like reading BDSM and can handle Larry + someone else), and such interesting character development. One of my favorite things about this fic is how the authors differentiate between the ways the different characters inhabit their Dom and Sub personalities.

Dee’s favourite: I’m honestly torn? I love pitfalls of greed. It is one of the first fics I read. BAMF WWX is my jam. Looking through a window is a great fic too! There’s something so charming about outsider POV getting a glimpse of lovely Wangxian domesticity. The descriptions of LWJ and WWX are so enchanting here. I would highly recommend them.

Ju’s favourite: This was hard to choose, but “on restitution” has a big place in my heart. I was so afraid of reading it while the author was Anonymous, because the synopsis is so sad/angsty. The moment I saw who the writer was I started reading and just couldn’t put it down. And it is just so good!!! The first chapter is really angsty and it hurts a lot, but then the rest of the fic comes and it’s way less angsty than I expected. WWX is full of life, wangxian is absolutely glorious, and soft, and romantic, and sexy, and they tease and trust each other. The juniors are also there, and we get Wei Yuan for once! They are all so in character and it makes me so happy. Mostly WWX pov, but I cannot forget to mention Jingyi’s pov. I just couldn’t stop laughing at his chapter. Cannot rec this one enough.

Q. When did you start writing fics? Did you have fandoms before this one?

A. I used to write for Percy Jackson and Harry Potter in the early 2010s (under a different name), though not very prolifically, but that tapered off fairly quickly. Apart from a few unpublished fic drafts for Lord of the Rings and Leverage, I only really got back into fic writing after I rewatched Avatar: The Last Airbender in 2020.

Q. What made you start writing for MDZS?

A. Wangxian! What drew me to the source material was the fact that I found Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji utterly fascinating as individual characters, but it was how much I loved their relationship dynamic that got me thinking about writing fic. There was also something about the plot and themes of MDZS itself that I found very compelling, and that made me even more interested in exploring it in fic. I didn’t realize it would lead to me writing so many fics in this fandom, but I’m certainly not complaining!

Q. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

A. That’s a really hard question to answer because I love different fics for different reasons, and at any given time, the fic I’m working on at the moment is usually my favourite. Among my finished fics, I particularly love on restitution, because of the way I got to portray Wangxian (and how many sweet, fluffy interactions I managed to fit into it, which… might seem like an odd reason given the premise, summary, and tags) and no smoke without fire, because it contains so many tropes I love— Wei Wuxian being a genius inventor, Wei Wuxian and the Wen remnants as found family, kids loving Wei Wuxian… the list goes on.

Q. What’s your favourite type of fics to read?

A. It depends on the day, really. Sometimes I love a good plot-heavy fic and other times I just want tender domestic fluff. But when it comes to MDZS, I do have a soft spot for fics of the ‘Wei Wuxian protection squad’ variety and fics that heavily feature the Wen siblings and Wei Wuxian’s relationship.

Q. What’s your favourite comment? Or type of comment?

A. Any comment at all! It’s always amazing to know that someone liked my fic(s) enough to let me know! (Though it’s a special kind of thrill to see the same person comment on multiple of my fics, because it tells me that they liked my writing enough to check out what else I’ve written)

Q. What is your favorite trope to read and/or write?

A. Established relationship and all the subtropes that encompasses! I love the familiarity, the casual intimacy, the comfort in each other’s presence… I could go on and on. I also love a good outsider POV (as evidenced by how many of them I’ve written), and as a natural consequence, established relationship from outsider POV.

Q. Do you have any advice for new authors?

A. Write what you want to read. I’ve found that it’s a lot more enjoyable to write something that you personally like, and editing feels a lot less tedious when you enjoy what you’re proofreading. Also, there’s a good chance you’ll connect with other people who enjoy the same things you do!

Q. What do you think is the most important element in writing? Plot, characterization, relationship?

A. They’re all important, but characterization drives everything else, I feel. The characters— and the way they react to situations and to each other— influence how the plot progresses and the relationships develop, so characterization is an essential part of writing.

So... I'm a sucker for polyam ships & here's why:

(I'm mostly referring to the Harry Potter Fandom but tbh for me it applies to every fandom I like)

Some characters simply have lots of chemistry with more than one person. Relationships are complex and, much like friendships, romantic and/or sexual connections are often not limited to one person only. And yes, platonic and queerplatonic relationships are valid and very important (and in much need of representation) but polyamory also exists and one doesn't invalidate the other! (nor does it invalidate monogamy altogether) Ex: I think we can all agree that Remus Lupin is the purest creature to ever grace the fandom, right? Doesn't our beloved Moony deserve all the love in the world? All the lovers that he wants? I'm a hardcore Wolfstar stan but guess what? I also love Remadora with all my heart! I think it's not so crazy to think he would/could be polyamorous... (nevermind the fact that I could actually ship him with anyone and it would work for me)

I'm a firm believer that almost every single love triangle (or any shape you like) can easily be resolved with polyamory. Besides, the "you must choose"/"it's them or me" trope is borderline toxic monogamy! In most cases, there is no reason for these love triangles to exist other than create a shitty "conflict" that doesn't even need to exist. Ex: You ship Harry with Ginny but also with Draco? Polyam relationships, polycules and metamours make the most interesting dynamics! (ok this is a bit silly but still) With polyamory, there is no one template in terms of amount/type of connections, relationship goals or expectations. This opens up the door for such complex and interesting dynamics and stories that enrich the characters on a different level, in my opinion. Ex: The Marauders are great candidates for this kind of exploration (but not the only ones). The context is just right (in the middle of a war in the 70s). There are a million ways in which that could work, let's see: - Lily and James, and Sirius and Remus as core relationships, Sirius and James of course and Lily and Remus. While James and Remus remain metamours, as do Lily and Sirius. - Lily and James, and then Sirius and Remus and James as a triad, and Lily and Sirius date outside as well. - Lily and James, and Sirius and Remus as core and open relationships. Lily and Remus in the sweetest platonic relationship, and James and Sirius as lovers. And I could go on all day but you get the point(?) Imagine ALL OF THEM RAISING HARRY! So much potential!

This is perhaps my very complicated way of saying I NEED MORE POLYAMOROUS REPRESENTATION IN THIS FANDOM! More fanfics, more fanart, more more more!

Harry/Teddy

This ship has been a long-standing guilty pleasure fave ever since I’ve read the amazing When It Alteration Finds by the Hardy champion @lqtraintracks, many years ago. Shipping Starker (MCU) in 2019 made my love for Harry/Teddy come back even stronger because I can trace so many similarities between both ships (besides the obvious age gap). Pretty much like Tony and Peter, Harry and Teddy are war orphans whose paths wouldn’t necessarily cross only they did, and the mentor/father figure combo can lend itself to so many interesting narratives, both tender and angsty which is my ultimate jam. This was my very first ship that didn’t have the antagonist component - on the contrary, this brand of romance is even more heartbreaking because they’re so so seriously devoted to each other. They could have been best friends to lovers if not for the whole godfather+ age gap problematique but it makes the ship even more compelling to me. I love the guilt, the want, the inevitability of them falling into bed then hurting through the complications before finally getting together. My favorite fics include (you guessed it!) everything LQT has written especially Beneath a Foreign Moon and Coming Up for Air, plus the stunning Surface Texture by @the-starryknight.

Ron/Draco

I would never have considered this ship if I hadn’t stumbled upon the brilliant A Fine Foray into Fashionable Fellatio by @wellhalesbells - a masterpiece that remains my all-time favorite Dron fic because it finally opened my eyes to their sexual and emotional potential as a ship on its own, outside of Drarry’s shadow. Ron is such a fascinating character, so very different from Harry in his strengths and vulnerabilities, which makes his dynamics with Draco very unique and 100% different from Drarry fics. It’s a delight to see him as a protagonist, I love his sense of humor and I find the idea of exploring what brings him and Draco together (besides being tall Purebloods with strong feelings for Harry 😏) and what pulls them apart when it comes to wealth/status difference very refreshing and compelling. Lokifan handles it masterfully! Now, I might have come for hung!Ron smut, but I stayed for the feels. In the past year I’ve become more emotionally attached to this ship especially as dragon tamer pals thanks to the superb Dreaming Skies by @sweet-s0rr0w and @tackytigerfic and more recently, to a Dronarry gem that’s really a love letter to Dron, The Sun, Shining Above You by @oknowkiss

Ron/Harry

Young Liv couldn’t care less for “friends to lovers” but now that I’m older and mellow, those dynamics are slowly but surely working their way inside my heart. Gosh, I’m so soft for Rarry! I love the idea of them experimenting together as young and traumatized teenagers, and there’s something poetic and right about Harry falling in love with his first and best friend. My heart aches when I remember that Ron was Harry’s most precious person during the Tournament’s 2nd task, being with each other just feels right. Love me some confused pining, domesticity and slight possessiveness /jealousy for them, especially in a scenario where Draco’s involved (yes I am also here for the Dronarry agenda). My first contact with this ship was through Golden Trio fics and the catharsis of comfort sex during the Horcrux Hunt; it was the easiest thing to slide into Rarry afterwards. Now I see them everywhere and am low-key spreading the word among my most skeptical friends (@writcraft is probably thinking “wdym you were shipping them in my Drarry fic???”). If anyone’s curious about this ship or wants a break from enemies to lovers I strongly rec the darling Sun Kissed by @static-abyss,the angsty Prelude and Fugue by shes_gone, this hot af Kinkuary by iota the exquisite Silhouettes by @sweet-s0rr0w

that... that IS a specific parallel. huh. very interesting. not that it really has anything to do with it, but it's fun that the parallel is between Tyler and Ryan, two characters who end up with a pretty close dynamic.

oh okay, you led on into that yourself! (you can tell I don't read ahead, I just reply paragraph by paragraph) it does make a lot of sense that Tyler and Ryan were so close when thinking about how similar Ryan and Rick can be at times. I really like the idea of Tyler just being drawn to Ryan initally because of that without really knowing why.

I will forever adore Rachel, I imagine she probably quit after that day and moved on to a similar job but with a boss who was all for educating about feminism and women's rights and how the treatment that women (and servants in general) was unfair, and made sure that while the kids were playing the parts with some accuracy, that they were learning what was right and wrong at the same time.

whenever I think about Johnny joining the army, I just want to scream. he needed help, not a gun and a ton of more trauma. the kid lashed out at the smallest loss of control due to childhood abuse and they thought the best way to help him through that was... war? it doesn't make any sense. I like to live in an au where Johnny is talked out of joining by everyone. they get him a therapist to talk to instead, telling him that if, after a few sessions, he still thinks the army is what he wants, then they won't stop him. but as the therapist gets him to open up, he begins to see that the army isn't for him; he just wanted to feel in control of something, like he was actively fighting against something, stepping back into the role of protector because he wasn't sure he was good for anything if he wasn't doing that. he's just finished school so he enrolls at college instead, gets in and moves on-campus, where he takes an interest in business and social work for children. maybe he even meets a guy in his classes and they hit it off and he finally understands a part of himself that has been weighing on him for years. give me queer, happy Johnny who does not join the army but has a nice, peaceful life! he realizes he can protect kids like him and Tee, giving him that feeling he so craved, and making a difference to other care kids.

harry was precious with that straw hat. (I loved my one trip to a victorian school, dressing up in the outfits. I only despised the cane.)

yeah, that was a pretty telling sign. just because the guy has seen a few groups of school days for a couple hours a day, does not mean he actually knows the first thing about them. and he simply refused to listen to mike trying to explain that they all live together so they had to be more sensitive and make sure there was no upset, because they wouldn't be able to just go home and forget about it by the next day.

yes!! the Ryan and Johnny parallels are just wonderful. hmm. a gifset may be required for visual proof of this. I will work on this.

Mo was SUCH a wasted character, you're right. just as we're talking about queer-coded characters as well. Mo had some of the biggest queer energy around, specifically around Bailey. but yeah, it bothers me how little they did with him considering everything they had to work with? when he's up in the attic with Tee in his first episode, he says that he and his 'parents' lived in a shed. not only that, but he also said that his 'mum' didn't like him very much, and we saw he reacted with fear to the idea of Mike 'hosing him down' AND he put himself in the corner when he thought he had done something wrong. a lot of this feels implies at least some form of neglect at worse and active abuse at worst. but this was of course never mentioned again. all we got after was the revelation that his 'parents' were actually his grandparents who STOLE HIM from his parents because his grandad thought they were unable to look after him due to their cerebral palsy and from them leaving him alone in the house with the door open at the age of 18 months. there's just a lot to work with and yet? we get like three episodes focused on him then he's gone.

it's funny, Johnny calling Tee 'patron saint of lost causes' like he isn't the exact reason that she is that way. she's always protected him and stuck up for him when everyone else has deemed him unredeemable for the things he's done or said. he is the biggest 'lost cause' in her life and while she's gotten mad at him and tried to 'disown' him a couple of times, she's still been there for him in the end.

don't tempt me, I will absolutely make that quiz.

Rating Versions of Harry Osborn: Updated

Wanted to redo this post with a more comprehensive and inclusive list of Harrys

616 Comics:

Just such a good and complex character. The OG Harry. His relationship with Peter just adds so much depth to every Green Goblin arc because of the inherent conflict of Peter knowing he needs to take down Norman Osborn, but not wanting to hurt or lose his best friend. (If you’ve read Kindred no you haven’t.) He’s still... ugly... I’m sorry 616 Harry... I love you so much but they did you dirty... Some artists do their best with what they have but... I’m not a big fan of western comic style in general so that doesn’t help. Has three failed marriages by the time he’s 30 because he’s gay and deeply closeted. 8/10

Spider-Man the Animated Series (1994):

The Harry plotline in this show reeeeally doesn’t feel earned, because the first time we see Harry having an active role in the show, he asks Peter to move in with him because Norman wants him to have a responsible studious roommate (a detail from the comics I was EXTREMELY excited to see play out), and Peter comments that they barely know each other. Ultimately they live together for all of one day before Peter decides to move back in with Aunt May. The next time we see Harry, MJ calls him Peter’s best friend, despite the fact that we haven’t seen Peter hanging out with—or even MENTIONING—Harry since the last episode when they were basically strangers. Really it feels like he’s just there to cause romantic drama as the guy MJ graciously settles for when she gives up on Peter. I found the whole goblin plotline kind of boring and lacking in depth. 3/10

Raimi Trilogy:

I was never interested in Raimi Harry until after I started liking and exploring other versions of Harry, because I just thought he was kinda a shit friend. He’s a pretty strong character overall, but his motivations aren’t as obvious. He’s torn between his love of Peter as his best friend, and his bitterness towards Peter for being the man his father wished he was. I don’t think Raimi Harry really wanted MJ, he just wanted to get back at Peter in a way by taking someone that HE loved. However I feel like his characterization kind of sways back and forth between sympathetic and not depending on how he’s written in the scene, and it disappoints me that the thing that gets him to stop tormenting Peter is the butler telling him out of nowhere that Norman died from his own blade, rather than any real character development on his part. 6/10

Spectacular Spider-Man:

I still haven’t watched all of this show because I... can’t STAND this version of Peter... but I’ve watched many clips with this boy and he’s just... so sweet... He only wants to be loved and keeps getting his heart broken. Deserves better. On everything. He deserves a better father, a better best friend, better love interests, everything. I do really enjoy the way they incorporated 616 Harry’s drug abuse into this show with the Globulin Green, it was a very clever way to incorporate that aspect of his character, but tone it down for younger viewers. I’ve watched the scene of him getting “unmasked” as the Green Goblin about a million times it’s very good. 8/10

Ultimate Spider-Man:

I love him. Most people fear drifting apart from those close to us, so watching Harry struggle with the new and increasing distance between him and Peter as Peter seemingly makes new, “better” friends is downright heartbreaking. Especially when he overhears Sam implying that Peter only hangs out with him for his money which is something he’s clearly experienced a lot. (Seriously Sam what the fuck.) I also love his struggle with Venom throughout the series as a metaphor for his anger and bitterness, it’s never truly gone even when they work hard to remove it. It’s always there to bubble back up under extreme amounts of stress, especially when Norman is involved. (Also this isn’t a Norman review, but USM Norman is the only version of Norman Osborn that has rights and he works hard to be the father Harry deserves.) Had an honest to God meet-cute with Peter like come on???? Its unfortunate how much they cut back Harry’s role in the third and fourth season, I really would have loved to see more of him. Threw a party specifically so he could ignore Peter to his face because he was jealous and I respect that level of pettiness. 9/10

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series

I didn’t think it was possible to create an uglier Harry than 90s Harry but this blonde, fuck-boy lookin creepass came and proved me wrong. Who the FUCK is this?? Doesn’t have any recognizable characteristics of Harry Osborn besides being rich and hating Spider-Man. Also just... look at him. I wouldn’t trust this man anywhere NEAR my drink at a party. #NotMySon -3/10

The Amazing Spider-Man:

He’s okay. I think he has some very emotional scenes and good chemistry with Peter, but it’s dampened by the fact that he wasn’t present in the first film and had to share the second with like two other main plot lines. Ultimately ends up being the least sympathetic version of Harry Osborn because he became the original Green Goblin and killed Gwen, rather than following in his father’s footsteps. That’s not to say he’s a completely unsympathetic character. He has a strong motivator in his fear of death, and I do think the choice they made for his character were interesting and could have developed really well, but they didn’t get the chance since the franchise was dropped. 5/10

PS4 Spider-Man:

ABSOLUTELY ADORE HIM. WISH WE GOT MORE OF HIM. HAVING YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF HARRY OSBORN BROKEN AS YOU SNEAK AROUND NORMAN’S PENTHOUSE AND LEARN THAT HE’S BEEN SECRETLY STRUGGLING WITH A GENETIC DISEASE HE’S BEEN HIDING FROM HIS BEST FRIENDS FOR YEARS WAS -chef’s kiss- GENIUS. PLEASE GIVE US A SECOND GAME WITH VENOM HARRY. 10/10

Marvel’s Spider-Man (2017):

Still easily my favorite version of Harry Osborn. When I first began watching the show I was startled by their decision to make Harry a science genius like Peter because it was so different from their usual dynamic, and many people who aren’t fans of the show point to this as something they dislike. But I actually ended up really loving the decision. It gives a different flavor to Harry in how he reacts to the events of the show and how we interpret his character traits, while still being very inherently Harry Osborn. Harry is jealous of Peter, he loves him dearly, but there’s always this ember of bitter envy ready to burst into anger whenever the plot creates friction between them. This is one of the defining traits of their relationship and in most versions it’s not hard to understand why. Peter has what Harry wants. He’s intelligent, he has potential, and most importantly he’s loved. Peter is the son Harry knows Norman wishes he had, and that creates a wedge between them. Marvel’s Spider-Man changes this dynamic. Harry can easily stand toe-to-toe with Peter in terms of intelligence, and in fact they often work together to create things or solutions Peter couldn’t have come up with on his own. That initial wedge between them isn’t there, creating a very endearing and loving friendship that we know is doomed to sour because it isn’t enough. MSM Harry could be the person Norman wants him to be, and that places the full weight of his father’s impossibly high expectations on his shoulders, always within reach but never quite achievable. So it makes a lot more sense why Peter initially has a low guard towards Norman (as opposed to some other series where Peter seems oddly dismissive of Harry’s justified complaints) and Harry’s own steadfast loyalty to his father. On the surface Norman seems like a perfectly loving parent, he encourages his son, he created an entire school for him when he was wrongfully accused of sabotage, it’s only when you start to dig deeper into their relationship that you see the subtle manipulations and the issues Harry has from constantly chasing his father’s approval. This creates a Harry who is desperate for validation and extremely sensitive to rejection, which colors his relationship with Peter throughout the show. I’m still mad he got nerfed in the second and third seasons because Disney is homophobic. TLDR: I may be biased ... Infinity/10

MCU:
