Just Friends
SUMMARY: Sam asks the group who they think are the “hottest” members of the team. You don’t make the cute for Bucky’s top five.

WARNINGS: angst, swearing (like two f bombs), cannon level violence, Bucky being an idiot (it’s a warning), physical insecurities, fake science
A/N: I wrote this because the top 5 situation actually happened to me IRL and when you don’t make someone you like’s list, it sucks. Also, this is in no way meant as being against people who are smaller! I am just a tall/plus size woman and sometimes that really makes you feel like you’re unattractive to people because you don’t fit the gender norm. Let me know what you think! I’m pretty new at this so I’d appreciate the feedback!

The best part about working with Bucky was that you got to see him everyday. The worst part was that you were constantly reminded that he wasn’t attracted to you.
You knew you were a good looking woman, people would often tell you that. It usually happened when you weren’t necessarily feeling your prettiest. Somehow that made it worse. Others would compliment you but he never would. Even when you knew you looked good- like you had put in extra effort and actually tried that day- still he would give you nothing.
You sat across from him in the common room looking at all the other Avengers wondering why he didn’t feel the same when you finally got your answer.
“Alright man,” Sam called out to the group. “Top five, let’s go.”
“Top five?” asked Clint, not sure if he wanted to know the answer. “Top five what?”
Everyone looked back to Sam, - “Top five on who you think is lookin’ most fine”.
“You want us to rate each other?” You asked incredulously.
“Naw, man!” Sam replied. “I want to know who you think are the top five most attractive! Male and female!”
You slunk back into the sofa, both curious and terrified of the conversation to come.
You heard huffs from the others but no one objected. Vision went first and of course he could only answer with; “I believe all of you are inherently lovely. I couldn’t possibly pick a top five of those who I find to be most attractive.” As soon as he finished and the room was no longer focused on him though he leaned over to Wanda and said something in her ear that made her blush.
You brought your cup up to your lips to hide your smile. You loved how happy they were after having been through so much heartbreak.
Sam went next, “Imma say, Wanda, Nat, Gamora’s got it goin’ on…for an alien…Hill - don’t tell her I said that- and…Y/N,” he said throwing you a wink.
You smiled but shook your head with a roll of your eyes. You knew the only reason he said your name was because you were in the room. He was trying to be kind. Men didn’t seem to be actively lining up to be with you…it might have something to do with them being intimidated by you being an Avenger but who could possibly know
“Sam you would think anything with legs that gave you the time of day was hot,” Bucky shot.
The others laughed but Sam shot back, “alright, Tin Man, who’s on your list? Okoye?”
“Yeah for one! I would be dead before I could make a move but sure! She’s dangerous and stunning!” He took a swig of bourbon as if he was done.
“Alright then who else?” Wanda leaned forward winking at you.
You shot her a warning look. You had only told her how you felt about Bucky once on a drunken night after finding out he had gone on date with another recruit. Jealousy had reared its ugly head and she could feel your angst that night. You had asked Wanda how; “A tiny little thing that would barely hold her own in the ring,” could possibly catch his eye. It was as if the only thing he saw you as was an ear to listen to his problems and a soldier he could rely on in the field. You had seen them together multiple times since then and every time it pained you more.
She was everything you weren’t. Barely five foot, two inches tall with a skinny frame to match, and a nicely formed backside. In reality you couldn’t be mad at Bucky. He deserved to be happy. He was your friend and you wanted that for him. You just wanted that particular happiness too.
“Okay, okay!” Bucky’s hands came up in surrender as he finished his drink and leaned back to think, He sat so close to you his left bicep of his folded arms brushed yours with every breath he took.“Okoye? Sure…uh… in no particular order…Wanda, Nat, Darcy, and the little woman, Kris, from reception.”
“It seems, Mr. Barnes”, said Vision, “that you prefer mates who are significantly smaller than you. I do believe that of that group, Wanda is the tallest one.”
“Which isn’t really saying much because I’m only five, six”, she complained.
“The perfect height my dear.” Wanda smiled at that and kissed Vision’s cheek .
You took another long sip of your drink as you registered what had been said. Your stomach soured as you finished the glass. Not so much from the alcohol as from the realization that the man who you had secretly been pinning over didn’t even list you as attractive enough to make his top five.
You felt like you knew why. It was just too much. You weren’t small and dainty like those on his list. You had big bones and a can do attitude. You wouldn’t take crap from people. And because you were so tall you could come off as intimidating…or so some men had told you.
“I’m going to get another drink,” You whispered to no one in particular.
But Sam really couldn’t read a room and he called you out. “No, no! Who’s on your list Y/N?”
“Oh no!” You said dryly. “I’d have to be much drunker for that conversation. For now, I'll keep my opinions to myself.”
You spotted Bucky’s surprised face before you made your way over to the bar. The conversation carried on behind you as you refilled your glass. Thoughts of Bucky’s revelation clouding your mind. You were never going to be good enough for him because you were just too big. Too tall. Too much. He liked the smallest, most petite women in the compound. Feeling your emotions swelling,you decided to grab the bottle and made your way quietly out of the room while the ruckus continued.
Once on your floor you closed the door behind you with a forceful slam, “FRIDAY!! Lock the door and don’t open it for anyone!!”
“Yes, Miss Y/L/N.”
The rest of the night was spent on the floor in your sweats drinking from your bottle of whiskey and feeling sorry for yourself and all the things you couldn’t be because of biology.
You weren’t sure if it was a drunken stupor or your imagination but at one point you could have sworn you heard a knock only for it to go away just as quickly.

The next day you had an awful hangover and didn’t get out of bed. Bucky came to your door for your normal morning run.
“Tell him I’m not going, Friday.”
“He would like to know why, Miss.”
“Tell him it’s my time of the month.”
“Your time of the month was last week, Miss.”
“Who’s side are you on, Friday? Just tell him I’m sick.”
“Very well, Miss.”
It was silent for a few moments and you had thought that would be enough to get Bucky off your back for now.
“Mr. Barnes would like to know if you’d like to see Dr. Cho, Miss.”
“Uuuugggghhhh,” you rolled out of bed and marched over, irritated that the one person you didn’t want to see was at your door.Pulling it open with a huff you practically screamed. “What?!?”
“Woah!” Bucky jumped back startled at your disheveled appearance and puffy eyes. “I just want to make sure you’re alright, doll. You didn’t come back last night and you never answered the door when I came to check on you.”
So there was a knock last night.
You couldn’t look him in the eye as your eyes filled with tears again, this time with shame. “I’m fine, Bucky.” You started shutting the door quickly and he stuck his hand on it preventing you from closing it again.
“Y/N…what’s…”
“Bucky, I just need some rest okay?” You cut him off, “I’m fine. I promise I’ll be right as rain tomorrow.” You smiled weakly.
Bucky searched your face as if trying to find what you weren’t telling him in your eyes. But you were an Avenger and you knew how to school your features to show nothing.
Bucky sighed and shook his head, “alright, doll. I’m here if you want to talk about anything.”
“Yes, fine,” you said pushing him out the door. Your eyes had flooded with tears again. You didn’t look up to see Bucky’s hurt and concerned face as you closed the door again and put your back to it.
You held your breath listening for his footsteps to retreat before sinking to the floor and crying.

The next day was an all out avoid Bucky day. You weren’t sure you could take the questions and worried looks he was sure to give you. Instead, you decided that what you needed was time away from such temptation. And so, you went in to ask Steve for an overseas long assignment.
“You sure about this one, Y/N. It’s a 9 month solo mission. It’s going to be long and it’s going to be lonely.”
“Yes. I’m sure. I need some time to myself.”
Steve looked at you with understanding and pity. He could see how you felt about Bucky even if he couldn’t get his best friend to see it as well.
“Alright,” he said, “suit up. You leave in 2 hours.”
South Africa wasn’t the worst assignment. It wouldn’t take long for you to get the information you needed. And the separation from Bucky would be good for you.
You finished checking your last weapon and loaded it as well as a pair of throwing knives, a gift from Bucky, into your duffle before looking around your room one more time.
You headed to the door and almost made it out until the picture of you and Bucky on your dresser made you stop. Picking it up you smiled at the memory of the minor league baseball game you’d attended together. You had won tickets and no one else was available that night. When you’d offered the tickets to Bucky you couldn’t believe that he said yes! It was the true start of your friendship, talking about life and how much it had changed for him but also how little it had changed for you. He couldn’t believe it when you started singing all the words to “I’ll never smile again”.
“You think I don’t know music? I’m quite cultured, Mr. Barnes!” You had said with a laugh.
“I never said you weren’t, sweetheart!”
Coming back out of your revelry with a start you put the picture back down on the dresser and turned to the door. You were going to get over this infatuation, even if it killed you. Supposedly time heals all wounds. Well you weren’t sure if there was ever going to be enough time but you could get distance.
…
Hours later Bucky came in to tell you about the relationship problems he was having with the girl from reception. She just didn’t seem to understand him and kept picking fights. You had become his confidant and had saved his relationship once before so would most likely be able to do it again.
He was almost to your room when he noticed your door was ajar. Slowing he moved closer and pushed it in silently. The room was neat and quiet. Your bed folded nicely as though it was always that way.
Bucky knew that you never made your bed until you were right about to get in it. Or unless you were going on a trip.
Checking carefully he started to notice things missing. Your favorite slippers were gone. Your tooth brush and favorite stuffed animal turtle were also missing. All of the things that you felt you had to have with you were gone.
Then he saw the picture frame on the dresser. Picking it up he too smiled at the memory, then frowned. It was still here. You almost always took this with you. Why was it still here but everything else you held of value was gone.
“Friday, where is Y/N?”
“Miss Y/L/N has volunteered for a mission, sir.”
“Where?”
“That information is classified.”
“Okay, when will she be back?”
“That information is classified.”
“Alright, who else went on the mission,” he asked hoping whoever it was would have your back.
“All other Avengers are currently in the compound.”
“So she went by herself?” Bucky fumed.
“That information is classified.”
“Damn robots!”
Bucky stormed out and found Steve in the kitchen.
“Where did you send her, punk!
Steve didn’t even look up from his newspaper, knowing exactly what his best friend was talking about.
“She’ll be fine, Buck. She just needs some time to herself.”
“So send her to Fiji! Not a solo mission!!”
“This is her call Bucky. You’ve got to trust her.”
Bucky spun on his heel and headed to the computer lab. He knew he was being irrational but if no one else was going to look after your well-being then he was going to have to do it himself.
It took him all day but he finally unencrypted the files for your mission. You were to carry out a recon mission in Port Elizabeth on a supposed Hydra base. It was a far cry from Fiji but you wouldn’t be in immediate danger.
Still he came in everyday to check in on your reports and find out how the events in the country were progressing. He had even convinced Torres to help him set up notifications to his phone if something were to go wrong. He had, very nicely, threatened him with knives if he didn’t set up Stark’s satellite to keep an eye on you.
After three weeks he was really starting to miss your company. Every time he went out with Kris from reception he realized that she just wasn’t as interesting as you. They didn’t have the same camaraderie and chemistry as the two of you did.
So when his phone dinged at 2:30am he looked at the notification. It was a satellite image of you on your apartment porch drinking coffee. You seemed at ease and calm at your small table. Your hair down and wearing a long red dress. He went to the live feed of the satellite but when he did you weren’t there.
Bucky refreshed the page again thinking it may be just an error. But his rising heartbeat made him think differently. When the screen came back he noticed the upturned coffee mug and the newspapers on the ground.
Bucky flew from his bed and raced down the hall to the command room. Steve and Tony were already there, still in their pajamas.
“…it’s not as if she has a tracker in her, Stark!”
“Well maybe she should! Maybe we should make it a standard issue! Everyone gets a tracker! Friday! Make a note!”
“Yes sir.” replied the AI.
“Tony, we need to focus on the…”
“Where is she?!” Bucky growled.
Both men turned around in surprise. Steve recovered first, his eyes sympathetic for his friend’s worry. “We’re not sure, Buck. These images were only taken 4 hours ago.” He clicked to zoom in closer, “but we did get this.”
He zoomed all the way into the kitchen window behind where you’d sat drinking coffee, where a face reflected in the glass. Bucky looked on in rage, hands in tight fists, as the image became clearer and Zemo came into focus.
…
You awoke with a start, unaware of your surroundings. You sat on a bed in a bare room with a single one way mirror. A metal chair sat by the wall and you noticed no handle on the door. Trying to piece together what had happened you recalled your last memory.
A beautiful morning, the sun shining on the water, a freshly brewed cup of coffee. You sat in your apartment in Port Elizabeth, a pain in your neck…
“Zemo,” you whispered.
“Ah, you’re awake,” said the speaker above you. “I’m sorry about the dramatics but it was necessary. You’re a very important piece of the puzzle.”
“Let me guess,” you said as you rolled your eyes. “You don’t like the way the world is being saved by the Avengers and you think you could do better.”
“Actually I want something else, мой дорогой. I need you.”
“What?” you cried befuddled. “Why on earth would you need me?”
“Do you know what TX-39 is?”
“Yes, I have an entire codex of arbitrary numbers logged away in my brain,” you retorted.
Zemo didn’t pause at your sarcasm. “TX-39 is the compound used to create nucleotides that bond onto nerve endings. By doing so they suspend brain signals stopping all neuro function and rendering the subject immoble. Something you have experienced first hand. By combining a nanotech inhibitor with this nerve ending your subject’s direct motor function is now open to...suggestions.”
You sat astounded as you registered what he had told you. You looked down at your hands but you didn’t feel different. There was no way something like this could work.
“What better way to get rid of a super soldier than to create your own?” Zemo said. You felt a slight buzz in your spine as you stood up quickly trying to resist. Running to the mirror you pulled back your arm, ready to punch your way out, but an inch from the glass your arm stopped. “Ironic that the Soldat will come to save you, only to be the one who needs to be saved.” With that you felt the electricity in your spine disappear and your body was your own again.
Frustration built within you as you sat back on the bed for a moment processing his statement. Your face became more and more incredulous until finally you burst out laughing. You continued laughing harder and harder at the absurdity of Zemo’s reasoning.
“You think I’m the one he is going to come after,” you laughed. “You think you picked the right mouse for your trap? You’re going to wait a long time if you think he’s going to come and get me.”
During your first few weeks away you had missed Bucky fiercely. Leaving him behind so abruptly had felt like severing a part of yourself, but the last few weeks had been good for you. You had forgotten what it was like to rely on yourself. You had grown into yourself again and had realized how little Bucky had actually cared for you when he never came to find you. He hadn’t so much as picked up the phone after you had left. It was as if you had never existed in the first place.
“Bucky doesn’t care about me,” you said sardonically. “He never has. We are barely even friends.You picked the wrong mouse, Zemo. ”
“We’ll see, дорогой,” and with a click he was gone.
Your brain shifted in and out of the conversation with Zemo. Looking down at your hands, you prayed it wasn’t true. You knew that what had happened at the window was real but you didn’t want to believe it. You had been turned into a weapon to hurt your friends. To hurt Bucky.
Crossing your arms over your chest you laid down on the bed, rolled over to face the wall, and cried.

Avengers Compound
“There is a five mile radius around Agent Y/L/N last known location,” said Fury. “Two man teams will sweep the area in a grid formation while the drones scan for energy signatures. Any questions?”
All those around the table sat silent, but nodded confirmation of their understanding of the objective. Fury looked around the room, “This mother fucker took one of ours and I wanna know why. Let’s get going.”
Bucky stood up from the table and made his way out of the room to the Quinjet hangar. Steve pulled on his arm before entering the plane. “I know what’s going through your mind right now Buck, but we are going to get her back”.
Bucky looked at the ground before raising his eyes to his friend. “He knew how to get to me, Steve. He always knows where to hurt me. He couldn’t use you. You’re too difficult to overpower. So he had to pick her. I just,” Bucky wasn’t sure how to finish his thought. Words never came easily to him and he wasn’t sure he could really express what he was feeling. “I just want her safe.”
After you had left Bucky felt hollow inside. He hadn’t realized how much joy you brought to his day with your smiles and jokes. Always knowing what to say, or at least, what he needed to hear. Your departure made him realize he needed you. Boarding the jet Bucky knew that no matter what happened he was going to tell you how he felt.
…
The team had been sweeping through the city for what felt like hours and there still hadn’t been any developments. Walking through another alleyway Bucky scanned the cobblestone streets. He was beginning to lose hope at ever finding you at all when he saw an uneven line in between two buildings.
Pressing his comm link he called out, “Steve, I’ve got something. I’m going to check it out.”
“Bucky, wait for backup. We’ll come to you.”
Feeling along the wall Bucky felt a draft between the cracks. Unholstering the gun at his hip he pushed against the wall feeling it give way.
“I’m going in. Follow my location.”
“Bucky, wait!” Steve called.
Bucky ignored his calls and continued down the dimly lit hall. The walls opened up to a staircase leading down to a command room. The musky scent of decay and scotch filled Bucky’s nostrils.
“Privet, Soldat,” Zemo called from the darkness.
Bucky whirled around to find nothing.
“Have you come for your little mouse?”
Still searching, Bucky said nothing as the sound came from a different corner of the room.
“Have you realized how much you miss her?”
Bucky circled again, coming up to a window.
“I wonder what it is? Is it her sweetness that draws you? Or her willingness to see you for more than the killer you are?”
Bucky frowned. Zemo was playing with him.
“Or have you realized that her fire is what draws you to her? She does have a talented tongue. I’ve seen her put it to good use,” Zemo provoked. “I have enjoyed having her in my company, but it seems you really never appreciated her spirit, did you?”
Bucky continued searching the room as Zemo continued his monologue. Coming up to the computer he saw a paused video feed. It played as soon as he stepped forward.
Bucky saw you in a room, still in your red sundress. Your hair was matted and you had the look in your eye of anger and exasperation. When you spoke, Bucky felt the wind rush out of his lungs.
“Bucky doesn’t care about me,” you said sardonically. “He never has. We are barely even friends.”
“A pity she never saw you care, but I suppose it’s only fair that you tell her now.”
The door beside the window clicked open with a beep. You came out of the cell with a look of wary surprise on your face. “Bucky?”
“Now is your moment, Sergeant Barnes. Why not tell her how you feel before it's too late,” called Zemo.
Bucky holstered his gun and walked toward you. “Y/N? Are you okay? Come on, let's get out of here.”
He grabbed your hand and turned to go but you were rooted to the spot. Your breathing became heavy as you felt the tingling sensation in your spine again.
“Bucky, I need you to leave,” you cried, dread dripping from your voice.
“What? No,sweetheart, come on! I’m not leaving you.”
“Bucky, I…” you started.
“Last chance to declare yourself, Soldat.”
Looking up in anger, Bucky yelled. “Shut up, Zemo. I’m not performing for you-” Bucky’s head turned in surprise as you punched him across the face. “What the hell, Y/N?”
“It wasn’t me!” you cried as you dropped and kicked his legs out from under him.
Bucky rolled over quickly to pick himself up as you followed him swinging punches at his head and kicks to his stomach. Your moves were both erratic and efficient as they landed multiple times. It was all Bucky could do to block your assault and move out of the way.
“This isn’t me!” you cried again between punches. “Zemo is controlling me with nanotech!”
Bucky threw up an arm to block your punch before flipping you around by your arm and pressing you to the wall. He didn’t want to hurt you but he was pretty sure that it wasn’t the most comfortable position.
“It’s okay, Y/N. We’re going to get you out of this.”
Your foot kicked his leg and you pushed yourself over and around his head and away from the wall. Grabbing the knife at his hip as you slipped out of his grip, you threw it into his thigh.
Bucky looked at you in surprise and annoyance. “Sorry!” you winced. Pulling the knife from his leg he tossed it to the floor.
“Look, Y/N. I’m not going anywhere, but try not to kill me, okay?”
“It’s not like I’m doing this on purpose Bucky!” you huffed as you charged at him.
“Well I’m just trying to get you out of the problem you put yourself in!” You had grabbed another knife and went to stab him. Bucky caught the knife and twisted your hand but the knife snagged your dress and tore the skirt as you fought to wrestle it away.
Your eyes flared with anger and the next punch you threw had a little extra heft in it.
“That I put myself in? How about you, Mr. Barge-into-a-room-with-no-back-up!”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I thought you liked being saved! Although you’re one to talk! You came on a mission without backup!” Bucky rolled across the computer console out of the way of your next kick, getting agitated at your attitude.
“Because I needed space!” you yelled as you followed him around the computer desk.
“Space? Space from what?” Bucky yelled back, actually throwing a punch that you easily evaded.
“You! You idiot!” it burst out of you as you came up swinging before pushing him to the ground.
Bucky looked up at you with his eyes wide. You had him straddled under your legs. Bucky brought his arms up to block your punches while he tried to talk to you.
“Why would you need space from me? I don’t understand. You left without warning, without saying goodbye! Your mission was classified so I had to hack F.R.I.D.A.Y to even find out where you were!”
Your body was starting to fatigue from the strain of the fight as you continued to land blow after blow. You were fit and well trained but because your body was not your own you were blowing through energy rapidly. Your breaths were coming in short gasps as your chest heaved at each punch. If you kept this up, you weren’t sure how much time you would have before your body gave out entirely.
“Y/N, you left a huge gap! You were my best friend and then you were gone! You wouldn’t even talk to me before you left! You didn’t tell me you were leaving. I couldn’t even call you because the mission was supposed to be classified!”
Maybe it was the fatigue, maybe the hopelessness you felt, but you gave him everything you had left as you pummeled into him. Frustration over your situation, frustration at him, frustration at yourself built up inside you.
“I WILL NOT BE YOUR STAND IN! I will not be second best. I can’t look on anymore as you find someone smaller, cuter, littler to fit perfectly into your life! I deserve to be wanted! I deserve to be desired!” you screamed at the man beneath you as tears streamed down your cheeks.
Bucky finally bucked his hips and flipped you under him, pinning your hands to the ground next to your head.
“Get off of me! Let me go!” you had finally had enough. The damn had broken and your emotions and insecurities raged inside you. Your body pulled and twisted to break free from his grip.
“You do deserve to be desired,” Bucky said calmly as he caged you beneath him. “You are nobody's stand in. You’re perfect just as you are.” He wanted to say more but it was all he could do to keep you pinned under him.
The team burst down into the control room to see you openly weeping and Bucky on top of you.
“Nat, I need you to put an electric burst in my arm.” Bucky said looking up.
“I’m sorry, you what?” asked Nat.
“Just do it!” he said as you fought harder against him.
With a nod from Steve, Nat waved her baton and zapped Bucky’s arm causing both of you to scream in pain. When your body finally stopped seizing, the lack of adrenaline and the pain and fatigue caught up to you and you passed out in Bucky’s arms.
“You want to explain why I just pushed fifty thousand volts through you two?”
“Zemo infected her with some kind of nano tech. She hasn’t been in control this entire time.”
Steve scanned around the room. “Alright team, fan out. See if you can find out where Zemo went. I want teams down here with sat links up in 30 minutes.”
Bucky circled the gears around in his arm to get it up and running again before scooping you carefully off the ground.
“Buck, get her on the next jet out. Dr. Cho and Banner will be waiting for you to get back.”
…
For the second time you woke up in an unfamiliar place, and struggled to get your bearings. You felt like you’d been run over by a pick up truck and tumbled through a dryer.
Feeling slowly returned to your hands as your eyes opened and your vision cleared. You were in one of the medical rooms at the compound you realized.
“Look who decided to wake up,” said a gruff voice.
Turning your head you saw Bucky sitting in the chair beside you. He looked fresh and his eyes twinkled at you.
“Bucky,” you croaked as you tried to sit up.
“Woah there. You just relax. Your body is still trying to catch up from Zemo’s nanites.”
You slumped back down in the bed as Bucky leaned forward to take your hand.
“You had me worried there for a minute, doll. You’ve been sleeping for days. Wasn’t sure when you were going to pull through.”
“You doubt me, Barnes?”
“Not for a second, sweetheart, but I sure as hell missed you.” Bucky smiled, then looked down for a moment as if trying to find the right words. “We need to talk about why you left, Y/N.”
“No, Bucky, I...it doesn’t matter.” You say looking away. “It’s not important.”

You sat in shock as he spoke, not wanting to break the way you had during your fight.
“Y/N, you are perfect. You knew me before I even knew myself. You light up the whole room just by being in it. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You are strong, independent, kind, and gentle. You’re like a tall Asgardian goddess. Every inch of you is beautiful. I thought back to the last time we talked...before you left, and I realized why you did. I know why you thought I wasn’t attracted to you. That night, Sam’s list,” he paused as if pained at the memory, “I didn’t add you because...well, because I was so confused at how I was feeling. You were my friend. I didn’t realize till it was too late that I was already falling in love with you. And I most definitely didn’t want to give Sam anymore ammunition.”
You looked up at him sharply when he dropped the L word.
Bucky stood to reposition himself on the edge of your bed. Taking your face in his hands he leans forward until your foreheads barely touch. “I didn’t want to ruin things with you. You were my friend. You were perfect and I thought you deserved better so I ran to find something that was everything you weren’t. You are my perfect fit. You are just right. You are the only person I want. Please tell me you’re mine. Please tell me I haven’t lost you.”
You brought your hand up to rest over his as you let his words wash over you.
He wanted you. He thought you were beautiful. All of you. All of the parts people had told you were too much: your height, your attitude, your independence - he wanted it all.
You did something that you wanted to do for months, you brought your lips up to his softly and gave him a chaste kiss. “I was always yours Bucky,” You pulled his hands down and pushed him away to look into his eyes, “but I won’t be taken for granted anymore. I shouldn’t have to leave for you to want me. I shouldn’t have to be gone for you to realize what you had. I left for a reason. It was to find peace with myself. I realized that I didn’t need your approval. I didn’t need your desire to be whole. I won’t settle for someone who can’t see what’s right in front of them. I know my worth.”
Bucky looked at you sorrowfully as he held onto your fingers, memorizing their shape. “I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to make you feel like you weren’t enough.”
“I know, but it happened. I don’t need you to be happy, Bucky...” Bucky hung his head in dejection. “...But I do want you.”
Bucky looked up at you sharply to find your eyes full of love and warmth. You wanted him. Even after all that happened - how he forced you away, how he made you feel like you weren’t good enough, you were still willing to forgive him. You wanted him even with all his faults.
You brought him closer for another kiss and savored the way his lips fell across yours. Breaking away to look up at him you said what you had been holding in for months, “And I love you too.”

Summary: You’re a highly trained SHIELD agent recruited to the Avengers for your excellent fighting and computer hacking skills. You are needed on a mission due to the Black Widow being unavailable. Being partnered up with Bucky for the mission could be distracting for the both of you since you’re constantly dancing on that line between friendship and flirting.

You are dressed in your stealth uniform on your way to the quinjet hangar to leave for the data extraction mission you were called in to help with since Natasha is off on another assignment with Steve. On your way up to the hangar the elevator stops on Bucky’s floor for him to get on.
“Hey Buck” you greeted him with a warm smile. Bucky was one of your best friends in the tower, aside from Nat and Steve whom you were friends with by means of them training you mostly. Bucky and you became friends over the few months after you’d been recruited due to your frequent run-ins down at the gym. You were kind of an insomniac and would go down to the training room late at night to tire yourself out. You’d often find Bucky already in there trying to punch away the memories haunting his nightmares.
“Hey Doll” He smiles back at you with that beautiful mega-watt smile. “You ready to go whoop some hydra ass?” He asks as he slings his right arm over your shoulder.
“Oh, I was born ready” you say leaning into his welcoming half hug. “The real question is, are you ready, old man?” you ask nudging his ribs with your elbow a little and looking up at him with a teasing smirk.
“Let’s not forget, this old man can still kick your ass” he chuckles while putting you into a playful headlock. The elevator comes to a stop at the hangar and you and Bucky exit the lift laughing at one another. You two were always laughing when you were together.
Steve was so glad you and Bucky ended up getting along, he knew that your carefree personality and witty sense of humor would be good for his best friend. Steve and Nat were often discussing ways to get the two of you together. When Nat confronted you about it you had to be truthful, you knew she’d figure it out eventually anyways.

“Hey Y/N, do you ever feel like you and Barnes might like each other a little more than best friends should?” she cornered you in the locker room one day after one of your training sessions.
“Uh, I don’t know Nat. I mean, I love being around him and c’mon, the man is stunning.” You sighed and ran your hand through your hair as you thought about the best way to answer her question. “But I don’t know if a relationship is really something Bucky is looking for right now. And until he is, I am perfectly content with being one of his close friends. Hell, he might not even be interested in me like that. But if he was, I surely wouldn’t turn him down.” You finished, giving her a small smirk.
Natasha shook her head in disbelief, “Oh get a grip Y/N, there is no way he’s not interested in you like that. Steve has even said he’s never seen Bucky smile as brightly nor as often as he does when he’s around you.” She pushed your shoulder playfully.
You couldn’t help the giant grin that spread across your face and the light dusting of pink that warmed your cheeks, “I guess we’ll see Nat” you shrugged, “I guess we’ll see.” You repeated a little quieter the second time, talking more to yourself than to the red head.

You, Bucky, Sam, Wanda, Tony and Bruce were all on the quinjet heading to a hydra base that was a few hours away. The mission was to go in, get to the data center, download all their files, then plant a virus that would cause the building to self-destruct. It would give you guys three minutes to get out and away from the building before detonating. You and Bucky were paired up because his knowledge of the facility would get you to the data center the fastest, so you had as much time as possible to extract the information and plant the virus. Sam and Wanda were going in basically as your and Bucky’s back up to keep the hydra goons off your tails. Tony’s mission was to plant all the explosives for complete demolition of the base. Bruce was there to hang out on the quinjet as back up in case shit went sideways.
Things were going smoothly in the beginning, until hydra realized Sam and Wanda were kind of there as a distraction. They sent just enough agents to keep the two of them busy then sent all the big guns after you and Bucky. It seemed like every time you guys took out a wave of agents and made a little bit of headway, they sent another unit after the two of you.
“Jesus Fuck!” you shouted as a bullet clipped your left shoulder. You immediately aimed at the offending agent’s head and shot him directly between the eyes. “How many of these assholes are there!?” you shouted into the coms as you took out two more guys.
“This is way more than we thought there were supposed to be” Sam grunted sounding out of breath.
“Shit doll, are you okay?!” Bucky came to you after taking down the last agent of the most recent unit sent to kill you two.
“Ah, fuck me” you grabbed at your arm, it was bleeding more than you realized.
“Uh, now doesn’t really seem like the most appropriate time to proposition Barnes like that, Y/N.” Tony chuckled.
“Oh, go fuck yourself, Tony” you jabbed back with no real malice in your tone, this was a normal interaction between you and the sarcastic billionaire.
“Barnes gets an invitation and I have to go take care of myself? That’s cold, sugar.” He replied with fake sadness in his voice.
“Eat shit Stark!” you replied with a pained laugh as you continue clutching your wound.
“Guys, focus please” Bruce cuts in, effectively ending the conversation.
“Here baby, let me wrap that up” Bucky says gently as he unzips your suit and tears off a piece of your undershirt to tie around your upper arm. You can’t stop the goosebumps that prickle up on your skin where the knuckles of his flesh hand brush your hip bone. You look away from him and let out a shaky breath, hoping he didn’t notice the shiver that ran down your spine at the pet name. He’s used it on you before, but this situation feels a little more intimate than any of the others before.
You begin zipping your suit back up while he ties off your arm “Thanks Bucky,” you say too softly for the coms to pick up and give him a genuine smile. His eyes drop to your lips for a split second, almost too quick for you to notice. You reach up and brush his cheek bone with your right hand, even if it is covered in dried blood, his skin is soft under the pad of your thumb. You lean in and kiss his cheek lightly “Seriously, thank you.” You smile at him again; your faces are still inches apart. You pull away and grab his left hand with your right, “come on Nurse Bucky. We gotta get moving.” He follows behind you with an unfaltering smile on his face but says nothing.
You two were headed down the hallway directly towards the door of the bases data center when you were ambushed by 15 hydra agents at once. You were running really low on ammo and Bucky was completely out in five of the six guns he had on him. You were able to take out four guys, despite the burning pain in your left arm, before your guns clicked empty. You grabbed your knife from your thigh holster; taking the goons on in hand to hand combat. Bucky was able to take out seven agents before his last gun ran out of bullets and he had to pull out his knife as well. You took out one of the remaining men with a quick slash to the throat and jab to the abdomen. Then rushed over to where Bucky was taking on the other three guys at once. You caught one of them in the temple with the end of your blade, dropping him instantly and Bucky had no problems taking out the other two.
“Is your arm okay?” He asked grasping your arm softly.
“No. It hurts like a bitch, Buck” you exhaled heavily. “But we still have shit to get done, so let’s go finish this.” You sigh heading towards the data center door.
You weren’t expecting the agent hiding behind the desks when you walked in, you took your knife and tomahawked it at him sinking your blade directly into his throat, he fell to the floor gurgling. You hopped over the desk and inserted your flash drive into the main computer. You started hacking into their data mainframe while Bucky kept watch of the door. You were about halfway done downloading files when someone busted through the large window on the far side of the room. The massive man dressed head to toe in black charged directly at Bucky.
“BUCKY!” you shouted but the man had already tackled him to the ground and punched him hard in the face. Bucky was dazed for a second. This man had to be at least a little enhanced to take Bucky down like that.
You sprinted around the computer desks and jumped on the man’s back to get him off of Bucky. He stood without a struggle from your added weight, you wrapped around him with your arms and legs like a sloth. You reached for your knife only to grasp the empty holster; your blade was still lodged in the dead agent’s neck. Fuck! You cursed yourself. You had to think fast because the goliath man swung his fist back barely missing your face. You took one arm from around the man’s neck and pulled out one of the extra-long bobby pins that was holding part of your hair back. You flipped it around and used the more pointed end to jam into the front of the guys throat then you dropped your legs and pulled the metal piece back towards his right shoulder effectively ripping out the side of his throat. You pushed his body away from you as he fell to the floor with a loud thud.
“Holy shit doll!” Bucky exhaled in disbelief. “I can’t believe you just killed someone with that.” He said gesturing toward the large bobby-pin that was still sticking out of the side of the dude’s neck.
“Desperate times call for desperate weapons, sweetheart.” You replied exasperatedly as you began walking back around to the computer you were on before, getting back to work on the data extraction.
“Are you two okay in there?” You heard Sam’s voice come over the coms.
“Yeah I think so” Bucky replied then looked to you and you gave him a nod “Yup, we’re okay. A little beat up and bloody but still alive.” He finished.
“Okay good we are on our way to you guys” Wanda replied.
“All the explosives are in place.” Tony’s voice cuts in not long after Wanda’s.
“Okay, I’m nearly finished downloading then I can plant the virus.” You replied directly.
About three minutes later Sam and Wanda show up breathing a little heavy and looking a bit roughed up themselves. Sam’s eyes immediately fall on the giant guy laying in a pool of blood. “Holy hell. What is sticking out of big foot’s neck?” He leans in to look closer at him.
“Looks like a large bobby-pin” Wanda responds, her voice up turning at the end, almost sounding like a question.
They both look up at Bucky and he points directly at you, “Don’t look at me, that was all Y/N.” His eyes are just as wide as theirs because, quite frankly, he was still a little bit shocked himself.
Your head pops up at the sound of your name, you see all three of them staring at you. “What?” you ask in a neutral tone. “Anything can be a weapon if you try hard enough.” You shrug and go back to finishing your job.
“Where have you been all my life, Doll.” Bucky chuckles and shakes his head at you. You just smile and wink at him.
You finished the data extraction, finally, and it only takes you a few seconds to plant the virus. “Alright guys, all done let’s go.” You inform them as you grab the flash drive and hop back over the desk.
You guys make it out with zero complications. Probably because you killed most of the building’s inhabitants already. You make it to the jet with ample time. Sam takes the quinjet up and away enough that the blast wont harm any of you. Once you see that the detonation was a success Sam takes off; heading back towards the tower.
“Y/N, you’ve gotta let me take a look at that arm.” Bruce says coming up to you with a first aid kit.
“It just grazed me Bruce” you reply, “I’ll be okay until we get back.” You smile up at him from your seat.
“I’m sure you will, but humor me” He smiles back. You roll your eyes but are still smiling as you offer your wounded arm to him. He gets to work cleaning you up as lean your head back on the headrest of your seat.
You don’t remember falling asleep, but you wake up to Bucky nudging your right leg. “Hey doll,” He whispers as he taps your leg, “Y/N. baby, you need to wake up.” He nudges you again.
“hhm?” You groan, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. “Oh shit” you look around and see everyone else is already off the jet. You get up and stretch, momentarily forgetting about the stitches Bruce put in your left arm and wincing as pain shoots through your entire left side.
“Careful doll,” Bucky chastises lightly “Don’t need you tearing your shit open.” He chuckles taking your right hand in his left and tugging your sluggish body out of the quinjet hangar. He takes you to your room and helps you inside.
“Thanks Buck.” You give him a tired sleepy smile.
“I should be thanking you” He replies softly, still holding your hand. “Thank you for having my back in there. You are such a fierce and amazing woman.” He smiles bringing his flesh hand up to your jaw and caressing your cheek bone with his thumb. You look into his gorgeous baby blues trying to get a read on where this situation is going. His gaze drops to your lips for more than a couple of seconds and you notice he has his bottom lip trapped between his teeth. Oh, so that’s where this is going. You lean up on your tip-toes and close the distance between you. He goes still for a second then relaxes as your hands travel up his chest to card through the hair at the base of his neck. His metal hand falls to your waist and pulls you closer to him. He groans as your tongue swipes at his bottom lip, he doesn’t hesitate to grant you entry into his warm waiting mouth. Bucky starts to lead you towards your bathroom without breaking the kiss. You get about halfway there when you pull back.
You’re both breathing kind of heavy but he manages to speak up. “Jesus,” he takes a deep breath, “you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to do that.” He smiles and shakes his head not believing he is finally getting his chance with you.
“I think I might understand a little bit” you smile up at him. His eyes search yours for any hint of a doubt, but he sees nothing but sincerity and love in your gorgeous Y/E/C orbs. He leans down and captures your lips in a soft sweet kiss. He pulls back and smiles adoringly at you.
“I have an idea” you smile mischievously at him.
“Please enlighten me” he laughs lightly, because he knows that look on your face means something sneaky.
“How about, you go run us a bath in that big luxurious tub Steve had installed on your guys’ floor while I run this flash drive to Tony’s lab?” You say taking the drive out of your pocket.
“Oh God” he groans, eyes rolling back in his head “I swear, you are the woman of my dreams, doll.” he finishes as he pulls you in for another short kiss.
“and you’re the man of mine, James Buchanan Barnes.” You cup his cheeks in your hands and pull him down for one more needy kiss before you head for your door. “Now let’s get a move on soldier! I hear a large fancy bathtub calling my name.” You smirk as he follows you out of your room.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**
To get the ball rolling, I’m gonna start with the bits I didn’t like just because overall I fucking loved Endgame and I’d like to end on a positive note. But just because I loved it does not mean I am not well accustomed to Marvel giving me holes to pick at.
STEVE’S ENDING
When I first watched it; it rubbed me up the wrong way. Now I’m actually mad about it.
Don’t get me wrong - I knew they had to find a way to write out Steve Rogers but literally anything else wouldn’t have shit on years of character development.
Fans: clearly Steve and Bucky would be the only natural romantic partners for each other
Marvel: romantic love is not the be-all-and-end-all. Friendship is just as important
Fans: okay well can you give Steve and Bucky solid screen time as friends?
Marvel: sTEVE NEEDS TO BE WITH PEGGY THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE AND TO ABANDON ALL HIS FRIENDS FOR IT

I recognise that Steve’s trauma was that he felt like his life had happened without him and he had left behind the love of his life and honestly: fair. I’m Stucky trash all day long but I know the fucking company I’m dealing with here. I’d have accepted The Power Of Friendship with open arms. But a major part of both Steve and Peggy’s on-screen storyline was accepting that they needed to make the most of the life they had now and move on. Significant portions of their screen time was dedicated to that healing process. Steve created a life for himself in the future. He had a found-family (despite Marvel continuously found-family baiting us but I’m being considerate to their established shitehawkery here) he had friends and a purpose. But the main thing of note here is that Steve and Bucky’s friendship was constantly painted as the single most important thing to them. It was enough to pull Bucky out of seven decades of mind control. It was enough to make Steve drop everything (including Tony) to go and find him. They are with each other ‘till the end of the line. Steve Rogers is a man out of time but so is Bucky Barnes. Except Bucky spent the whole time being tortured and used as a murder machine. I refuse to believe that Steve would just leave him alone in the future. And he is alone because there has been zero suggestion that Bucky has a relationship with anyone except maybe Shuri and the Sam and Bucky being friends thing is just here now and we must like it or else (I love it but give me context damnit) And I know that Bucky knew what Steve was going to do because he told Steve he would miss him even though as far as they were concerned he was only going to be gone for five seconds but they, at the very very least, could have shown them having that conversation. The other parts of this that completely fly in the face of Steve’s character development: everyone lost someone. Everyone. Why does Steve get a do-over? Tony doesn’t get a future and Nat doesn’t get a future. Why does Steve get a new one? In what world would Steve comfortably accept either of those things? Peggy moved on and got married and by Steve re-writing how the timeline occurred he denied a women he respects and admires her autonomy. Finally, Marvel really expects me to believe that Steve ‘If I see a situation pointed south, I can't ignore it’ Rogers goes back to the 40’s and knows Bucky is alive and being actively tortured, knows HYDRA is in SHEILD, knows the Starks are going to be assassinated, knows Nat is in the Red Room and just... does nothing.
The Russo Brothers wanted a Steve and Peggy ending from the start, and even when it became obvious that it wasn’t what the fans wanted, they refused to let go. Steve’s ending would have been very sweet if he was any other type of person but he wasn’t. It makes no sense at all to his character development and everyone involved deserved better.
Speaking of deserved better...
NATASHA’S ENDING
This wouldn’t have left such a bitter taste in my mouth had Nat ever, even once, been treated with respect in this franchise. In terms of storyline I’ll admit it made sense. Someone had to die for the soul stone. It had to involve two people who loved each other. And I most certainly didn’t see it coming and the audible sobbing from the audience would back that up. It would have been heartbreaking had Nat been a well loved, well respected character. But she wasn’t. Nat was used as an eye-candy prop for Tony. She was the first person who really tried to be there for a struggling Steve. She was shoehorned into the role of Bruce’s love interest. She gave Clint his atonement. The five years where she worked through her grief were done offscreen despite them being recorded. Her skill set was not shown in this movie in lieu of giving her emotional depth. Yet she was left alone for years to believe that she was some type of monster who didn’t deserve nice things. That she had to dedicate her life, and then give her life, to redemption she no longer needed by any merit applied to the men of the franchise. If you consider the movie as a stand-alone it was a necessary evil but realistically Marvel never did right by her right until the very end. As much as I hate Marvel’s dedication to romantic love being the only motivator; traumatised women needing to sacrifice themselves to be worth anything at all is worse. Natasha’s story never belonged to her and that’s what makes her ending bitter as opposed to just sad.
NOW ONTO THE THINGS I LOVED
Tony and Nebula’s interactions were so sweet. It really just solidifies how much of a good guy Tony is and it’s nice to see someone treat Nebula like a decent person who just needs some love for once.
I have seen a lot of people complain about Thor’s storyline but I actually agreed with the decision made. I am not necessarily thrilled with the execution - the ball was dropped because the Russo’s aren’t Taika Waitti so the humour was clearly a copycat attempt and the fat jokes were overdone. Also handing New Asgard over to Valkyrie I liked but it was really throwaway. The reasons I’m not including it in my Things I Didn’t Like List is: Firstly, Hemsworth specifically looked for Thor to become comedic relief because he didn’t agree with how stiff Thor had been presented in the beginning. Thor’s mother died. His father died. His brother died. His best friend died. His home was destroyed. Half his people died. AND THEN the snap happened. Thor felt personally responsible for everything. During the fight in infinity war, for everybody else is was prevention, but for Thor is was already revenge. Only for them to lose which, as far as Thor is concerned and for all that he’ll believe, is because he should have gone for the head. And people just??? Expected him??? To be fine??? Accurate depressive episode is accurate. And I’m so glad he got to speak to Frigga. Firstly because I love her and secondly because she was dead right. You’ll always fail at being the person you are supposed to be. Thor has to make peace with the person he wants to be. (On a side note: Frigga and my therapist would be friends)
Also when he killed Thanos the first time I heard someone in the cinema say “they do know this is a 3 hour movie right?” And I was inclined to agree. Gotta give this movie props for never having me feel like I could guess what was gonna happen next despite me being able to guess what was gonna happen next. Brilliant writing.
I love Scott Lang. I don’t have much to say about that. He is a great dad, super funny, blends well with the others, when he got super big I whooped. His reunion with Hope was actually perfectly sweet without taking away from the mission. This is a We Love Scott Lang Zone only. The scene where the push time through him was hilarious.
I did not see the Banner/Hulk thing coming and equally did not realise how much I needed it. Super funny and good for him for embracing both.
Tony! Stark! As! A! Dad! Jesus wept it was so much more wholesome than I ever could have hoped for. I can’t even pick out one part it was all perfection. I love you 3000, Tony Stark.
Hawkeye. My baby boy. I love him to death and I am purposely ignoring his time as a big ol murderer. It was very very extra wrong but leave me alone. I was glad he was given more screen time in this movie.
I recognise that Rocket isn’t strictly speaking a “real” “person” but I enjoyed him so immensely in this movie. Him and Nebula holding hands just knocks me every time.
KORG!!! I would give this movie 10/10 exclusively because Korg was in it.
I truly loved the scene where Tony figures out time travel and I’m also very glad that instead of Pepper putting the foot down because he had a family now and he promised so many times he’d give it all up she knows that he’ll never rest and he needs to do this whatever the cost (sob)

CAPTAIN MARVEL. I’ve got to give this credit. I love Captain Marvel. I think Brie Larson is a god amongst men but I really didn’t want the movie to be about her and how she saves the day. That would really take away from all the years of hard work done by the original six and it really wasn’t her fight the way it was to everyone else. The amount she was involved and the way she was involved was truly perfect in my opinion. It was the edge they needed but no one was overlooked in the process. I was really very happy about this.
The girl power scene was probably pandering but I don’t give a fuck I was well and truly pandered
The team work for that fight scene was magnificent, the pacing was magnificent, the visuals were magnificent. BE-YOU-TEA-FULL

I’m gonna take this moment to say: the call backs they did to old scenes and old lines in the franchise were really tasteful and well done. This always felt like the accumulation of years of work and I’ve got to applaud it.

If it had to happen I’m so glad it was like this. Full circle. Honourable. Surrounded by those who loved him. Part of the journey is the end and I LOVE YOU 3000
I am going to miss Tony beyond belief.
His funeral was stunning. I am so glad literally everyone was there (HEY HARLEY). Great symbolism for it being a funeral for the Avengers as we know it, too. Also Happy’s interaction with Morgan was so soft I have melted. I am no longer here.

Summary: requested by @xxdragonagequeenxx : ’A fluffy fic where Reader is Tony's sister and best friends with Thor so when she develops feelings for Loki she's freaked out at first so she doesn't act. But then Loki does and so they're in a secret relationship. Somehow Thor and Tony find out, at first it's bad, because Tony isn't a fan if Loki and Thor is worried his brother will hurt his best friend but in the end it all works out and the reader and Loki get their happy ending.’

(A/N: My first Loki imagine! I was actually quite nervous to write this, but here it is! AND SORRY IT’S LATE, I’M BACKED UP WITH REQUESTS)

(Y/N) knew that her life would become a whole lot more interesting as soon as her brother became Iron Man. Despite the excitement of it all, she never had any intention to follow in his footsteps, only to help behind the scenes. Both being brought up with a very clever father and surrounded by technology, the Stark siblings thrived throughout school, creating their own innovative designs along the way, though no one was surprised. Although she was offered many times by S.H.I.E.L.D and her brother, (Y/N) turned down any invitations to fight beside them, not knowing how they could be so brave and relentless, but respecting them nonetheless.
As the years went on, many battles ensued, bringing along new allies as well as enemies. She now had an even bigger family, an odd but loving one at that. She genuinely cared for cared for everyone in that building, especially her, who she now deemed as, best friend, Thor, the God of Thunder; who would have thought a thousands year old god would end up being friends with a thirty something, high tech genius from the twenty first century? They were both fascinated with each others worlds, and realised that they had the same aspirations; to keep their friends and families safe. Everyone would see them walking around the tower together, a huge, broad and burly man beside a smaller woman, usually carrying a tablet and/or phone with her. (Y/N) confided in him, trained with him, learnt from him and vice versa. Truly nothing could break their friendship.
That is, until his brother showed up.
Ah yes, Loki, the God of Mischief. The man who used the Tersseract to unleash an alien army on New York city, killing, injuring and ruining people’s lives in just one day; as well as this, he had betrayed his brother, many, many, many times, sometimes leaving Thor in life threatening situations. But nevertheless, he was still Thor’s brother, whom he loved very much. So when it was suggested that Loki lived with the rest of the heroes, there was a slight disagreement.
“Hell no!” Sam exclaimed, having made his decision.
“You can’t be serious? Are you really going to put everyone’s lives in danger again?” Tony said.
“My brother has changed. I can’t stand by and let him wander by himself. I feel that if Loki resides here, with the rest of us, then the good in him will come out. I know it’s in there, he just needs help.”
“So, we should help the psycho that tried to kill us and take over the whole world, just because he’s your brother?” Clint crossed his arms over his chest, leaning back in his chair.
“Thor, you’ve got to admit, you’re asking the impossible here.” (Y/N) piped up though tried to keep her voice kind.
“I’ve lost all of my family but you and him. I need to keep him close, know where he is and that he won’t disappear again.”
“Why not send him back to Asgard?” Nat asked.
“We believe that Midgard is a better option.”
“Urgh, Thor-”
The bickering had continued for what seemed like ages and they were getting no where. (Y/N) could see how desperate her friend was to have his brother beside him. Thor could never see the bad in his brother, which in a way was quite beautiful, but she constantly worried that Loki would play him again, causing more heartache than the god deserved. She sighed, standing up from the chair before raising her voice over the others.
“OK! We’ve all had our say. Look, I agree with you guys, Loki doesn’t deserve our shelter, but at the same time, when does Thor ever ask us for things? Never. Why don’t we give his brother a trial week?”
“You saw how much damage he did in one day, imagine what he could do in a week.” Tony argued with his sister.
“He’ll be on lock down. Come on, Loki is Thor’s brother, his only biological family that is left. Let’s give him a week, and if he causes any shit, we’ll kick him out. Does that sound fair?”
And thanks to (Y/N), that’s how Loki ended up living with the Avengers.
Tension was running high as soon as Loki stepped foot into the building. No one was sure how to act around him; everyone wanted to give him a piece of their mind, though obviously no fighting could ensue. Loki didn’t make the situation any easier, constantly teasing and using his magic to trick people. However, some members of the team were starting to find it funny, especially if the tricks weren’t on them, though no one would admit that. But (Y/N) found him more than a comedian.
“I never understand why you mortals spend your lives trying to work out the impossible, you waste your time.” Loki startled (Y/N) as he suddenly appeared in her lab.
She set down her tools, not taking offence to his statement.“There must be things that you don’t know about, perhaps one of them is how to be a hero instead of a villain.”
“Who is to say that I am a villain?”
(Y/N) raised an eyebrow, a smirk on her face.
“Well, each to their own I suppose.”
(Y/N) let out a laugh, surprising the god. He had only ever made his brother laugh like that, and he hadn’t always meant to. But hearing it from her, the fact that he had caused such joy....what on Earth was he thinking? He was beginning to become as dull as the Midgardians.
“Do you really want to stay here Loki? I mean, it doesn’t really seem your type of place.”
“It’s no palace. Though I’m surprised your brother doesn’t have one of those already.”
“I’ll let that one slide.” She said in a warning tone, but couldn’t help smiling again as she tried to hide herself behind her work.
This became a regular occurrence. Loki was fascinated by the mortal woman, even if she was so enticed with the science of the world compared to his trickery. It was once every week that he would visit (Y/N) in her lab, then twice, then three times before it was practically every day. (Y/N) never knew what time he would arrive, but she anticipated it nonetheless. Then it became a normality that they would spend time together outside the lab, even if it was just them sitting in silence as Loki read whilst (Y/N) tinkered with a new design. The others took note of this, though when they saw that no other actions were being taken, they decided not to question it.
“(Y/N), you and Loki, you seem to be close-”
“Thor, I am just trying to make him feel welcome. I want you to be happy.”
It was such an easy excuse.
(Y/N) was clever, it was easy to lie to Thor, though she didn’t want to do it. However, she was scared, and when (Y/N) Stark was scared, that’s when you needed to panic. Her calm, clever mind was in overdrive, she could no longer think quickly, and this was all down to her feelings taking over. Loki was charming, handsome, it came with being a god, but she felt as if she was betraying her brother and friends just by thinking about Loki in a....dare she say, romantic way. Loki could see what was evolving between them. At first, he too had been apprehensive, these humans had been deemed unworthy before, except her; (Y/N) was somehow special, perhaps because she was so intellectual? Or perhaps she was so kind to him, despite their past.
(Y/N) could feel his presence behind her as she sat on the rooftop, admiring the bright stars the had spread across the sky. She then wondered about Asgard, and if they too had stars like Earth.
“We shouldn’t be doing this.” (Y/N) admitted, not bothering to look at him, though she knew he was beside her.
“And what would that be exactly?”
“You know what.”
“You’re scared, that’s what you mortals do when you’re unsure.”
“Loki, remember what you did. I shouldn’t be feeling these things.”
“And why not?” He leaned against the ledge, looking up at her.
“What would the others think?”
“What does it matter?”
“I want to, I just don’t know if-”
He held a finger up, standing up straight and standing even closer to her.“I’ve always said, you mortals are wasting your time trying to understand everything. Just because you don’t know something, doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.”
“But...”
“You know I’m right.”
“I’m not used to other people being right.”
“Neither am I.”
“What are we doing?” (Y/N) felt breathless, especially when she realised that they were practically embracing each other.
“Stop questioning everything, you aren’t all knowing like some of us.” his smirk returned, taking the bold move to wrap his arms around her, kissing her before she could get another word in.
(Y/N) instantly reacted, gripping onto his arms as she kissed back. Yes, she was unsure about all of this, her mind was battling with itself over her recent actions. Here she was, kissing the man (well, god) who had brought destruction to Earth, the one who threatened her brother and almost killed her friends; and she wanted to not give a fuck, but unfortunately, the situation was a lot more serious then that.
(Y/N) soon realised that she had to stop this conflict going on in her mind. It was true, she had feelings for Loki, also meaning she had to hide it from everyone. Unlike her brother, who unfortunately hid his feelings very well, (Y/N) could never keep anything under wraps, making her the worst person to plan a surprise party, let alone hide the fact that she was in love with Loki. Of course the heroes had noticed the different behaviour in the youngest Stark, worried when they saw how she locked herself in her lab and/or room all day. She tried to make progress in her work, not wanting the others to become suspicious, failing at this too.
“It has been weeks, (Y/N).” Loki stated, trying to lock eyes with her as she took apart a small circuit board.“You can’t keep doing this, keep on hiding in here.”
“Loki, you know we can’t tell anyone.” She grabbed a screwdriver, focusing on the electronics in front of her.“We’ve been doing fine so far, why not keep doing it?”
“I will not argue with you like this. If you are ashamed of loving me then just state it, it wouldn’t be the first time someone said it.”
That made (Y/N) drop her work, rushing towards her lover. She held his hands, trying to nit stumble over her words.“Don’t say things like that! How many times have I told you that I could never be ashamed of you?” She waited for him to answer, but when he didn’t speak, she carried on.“Loki, I’m just scared what the others will do when they see us like this. They were against you even stepping foot in this place, what will happen when they know that we’re...”
“We’re what? You can’t even say it out loud!”
Loki pushed her hands away, before balling up his fists. (Y/N)’s eyes widened for a moment, frightened that he would harm her. She flinched, shielding her face as his arms swooped across her work station, the metal and tools making a horrible amount of noise as it hit the ground.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Thor’s deep voice shouted out as he saw his brother in a frenzy, thinking that he would hurt his best friend. Thor easily held his brother up by his shirt, looking back to (Y/N) to see if she was alright.
“Thor! Put him down!” She protested, pulling at his arm.
Loki was wriggling around, only to be dropped to the floor. He groaned as the impact effected his body, welcoming the sight of (Y/N)’s worried expression.
“Why are you sympathising with him? He hurt you!”
“No, he didn’t.” (Y/N) helped Loki sit on a chair, kneeling in front of him.“He was just angry.”
“Angry? Brother, what is wrong?” Thor waited for an answer, his eyes darting to the sight of them holding hands.
Loki and (Y/N) looked at each other, unsure how to answer.
“Brother, you cannot put people in danger when you are upset. What if someone else saw you? They would think-”
“He didn’t mean it!” (Y/N) unexpectedly snapped at her best friend, sighing when she saw his shocked face.“Look, I’m going o tell you something, but you have to keep it a secret? Promise?”
Thor nodded his head, keeping his eyes on her as she stood, one hand still holding onto Loki’s. His mind raced with thoughts, one protruding out of them all though he pushed it back. No, that wasn’t possible.
“Loki and I....we’re...we’re...in a relationship.”
They waited for Thor’s reaction, Loki couldn’t help but find it slightly amusing, seeing his brother like this. Thor never said anything, briskly turning on his heel before taking long strides out of the lab. (Y/N) glanced at Loki, dragging him out of the chair and after Thor, her heart rate accelerating as they tried to catch up.
“Thor! Thor, stop!” (Y/N) yelled as Thor started running, easily getting away from the two of them.
“Where is he even going?” Loki questioned.
“Shit, he’s going to tell my brother.”
After asking FRIDAY to locate Tony, the couple took a quick walk to where he was, one nervous whilst the other remained calm. Loki couldn’t give a shit if Thor and Tony were mad, it wouldn’t stop him from getting what he wanted. He could see that (Y/N) was stressing, she was overthinking everything; he had hoped that over time, he would be able to teach her that not everything needed analysing, not everything needed to be known or solved. She thought about things too much, soon her mind wouldn’t be able to do that anymore, and he wanted to see her carefree, especially by his side.
(Y/N) and Loki entered the common room where Thor, her brother, Rhodey, Steve and Sam were, all of them looking shocked. Thor had already told them, it was too late. Tony was furious, storming towards the couple, he had to get his sister away from that monster. (Y/N) marched forward, pushing him back as Tony tried to get past her.
“Tony! Tony, stop! Please don’t hurt him, please!” She shouted, feeling like she would burst into tears.
“He’s manipulated you! He did it to Clint, to Nat, he tried to do it to me!” Tony retaliated, holding his sister’s arms back.
“Loki has never done that-”
“You wouldn’t know-”
“If we could all stop shouting, I think we could resolve this a lot faster.” Loki’s voice rang out.
(Y/N) closed her eyes as she groaned, not seeing the fire in Tony’s own eyes. She was grateful for Loki’s calm, and ‘go with the flow’ demeanour, but it didn’t always help at the best of times. Luckily, Steve pulled Tony back, seeing that they were indeed getting no where.
“Thor, you promised not to tell anyone!” (Y/N) cried, suddenly letting all the emotions crash down on her.
“I did no such thing. They have a right to know.” Thor responded.
“No, they don’t! I only told you because you saw us.”
“Saw what? What were they doing?” Tony interjected, ready to attack Loki again.
“We were doing nothing! Tony, I was going to tell you-”
“When?! And did you really think that I’d let this slide?”
“Can we please not do this here? In front of everyone?”
“Why not? Everyone knows now. Actually, I would prefer that they were here, then you might be able to see that you have officially lost it.”
“Tony, I know that it seems crazy, I know you’re all doubtful of this relationship. But...” She shrugged,“it just happened. I was scared, but then I realised that I couldn’t deny my feelings-”
“You don’t have feelings for him-”
“Let me speak!” She sighed into her hands, taking a deep breath in before looking back to her brother.“Don’t you think I feel slightly guilty? I wanted to stop myself at first, thinking that I was betraying you all. I just can’t, I just can’t deny it.”
“(Y/N),” Steve spoke up, a stern look on his face,“Loki killed all those people, he wanted to stop us-”
“You think I don’t know that?! Guys, I understand your concerns, but you have to believe me when I say that he’s changed. Thor, you were the one wanting us to let him into our home, you were the one who told us that he was different now.”
“I know, I know I did. But I know my brother’s trickery, I worry for you because I value your friendship. Even though he’s my brother, I will ensure no harm comes to you, no matter the case.”
“That won’t be necessary, because this is ending right now!” Tony pointed his finger to the floor, staring at (Y/N).
“Tony you don’t control me, you’ve always treated me like your equal, why change now?”
“Because you’re my family, and we’ve been through too much for me to lose you like this.”
(Y/N)’s tone of voice softened, knowing exactly what he meant.“Tony, I can’t deny how I feel.”
Tony was silent, a frown on his face as he shook his head.“No, you can’t. Which proves that he has power of you, meaning we need to keep you two apart.”
“Tony, no....stop, what are you doing?!”
Tony grabbed her by the arm, harshly dragging her away. Everyone started shouting over one another, wanting to stop Tony but also wanting to separate the ‘couple’. Loki could see that this was descending into madness, though that’s what he was used to. Having had enough of the mortals petty quarrels, he used his abilities to make multiple copies of himself, confusing everyone in the room. The real Loki used this opportunity to dash to (Y/N) making the others run too. However, he had ran only a few steps when he felt himself being tripped, a huge weight forcing him to stay on the ground.
“Thor you’re hurting him!” (Y/N) protested as she saw Mjolnir placed on Loki’s back, making it impossible for him to move.
“If you want him unharmed, start moving.” Tony said, relieved that his sister started walking.
Begrudgingly, (Y/N) let Tony take her away, ending up at her room. She walked in, expecting him to follow. She knew what was coming, the lectures she had endured before would be nothing like this.
“FRIDAY, lock the door, make sure she can’t override it.” Tony said before slamming it. (Y/N) kicked and punched the door, not caring how much it hurt.“(Y/N) you need to think about this, think about who he is. You don’t want to be with him.”
Tony ignored (Y/N)’s screams of protest. It was killing him, it really was, but he knew that this was better for everyone, especially her. It took all of his willpower to not turn around and let her out, hug her to stop her crying. (Y/N) was his only biological family now, he wasn’t about to have Loki as a brother-in-law.
(Y/N)’s voice was hoarse as she called out to FRIDAY, begging her to unlock the door or trying to override her. It was no use, Tony was the top boss, what he said goes. She was sat against the door, the darkness of the room not bothering her. How had she got into this mess so quickly? And all for loving a man that had a bad past. She had thought she would detest him, wouldn’t be able to face him without a look of disgust; it seemed that it was definitely opposite. (Y/N) was tired, emotionally drained and for once she couldn’t think of a solution.
“You should get to bed.” Loki’s voice rang out, making her jump and hit her head against the door. She rubbed her head as she got to her feet.
“You’re not really here, are you?”
“No.”
“Where are you now?”
“Locked up in my chambers, just as you are.”
“They can’t do this.”
“No, they can’t. And they won’t. I think my brother is coming round to the idea, he and Stark were arguing just as they forced me in my room.”
“Hopefully it’s just the initial shock.” She scoffed a laugh, shaking her head.“We’re just a pair of star crossed lovers, it’s sickening really.”
She walked towards him, instinctively reaching out to touch him, only to go through the hologram.
“Sorry, forgot for a moment.”
“Get some rest. We’ll fix this tomorrow.”
When morning broke, the pair found that their doors were open. They both strode confidently down the halls, not wanting to show how the events from the previous day effected them. When they spotted each other at opposite ends of the hall, they both rushed to meet in the middle, embracing before they kissed. It was one night, but the effect their relationship had on the others had upset them both, even Loki.
“You two, in here.” Tony called, entering one of the many rooms of the building.
The pair shared a look, following Tony. Loki didn’t hold (Y/N)’s hand, thinking that she wouldn’t want to enrage her brother. Surprisingly, (Y/N) took his hand, smiling up at him as they began walking. Her brother wouldn’t make her decisions, Tony knew that would happen.
As they entered, Thor was also present. The four of them were silent, wondering who was going to speak first. It was tense, the fact that Loki and (Y/N) were close made it worse.
“I want to apologise for last night.” Tony started, clearly feeling uncomfortable.
“We both do. In all honesty, we were worried about you, we did not think this was a good idea.” Thor added.
“So you decided to drag us away from each other and lock us in our rooms? Not your greatest moment Tony.” (Y/N)’s croaky voice said, wanting to make amends but not before letting out her anger.
“You have to see it from my perspective-”
She held up her hand, stopping him from talking.“We already went through this yesterday, and I thought everything over again. I want to be with Loki, and nothing you can say will change my mind.”
“Tony, you need to know that I won’t hurt her.” Loki spoke, trying to use his words wisely.“I’d rather be banished from Midgard than do anything that would upset her.”
“That can be arranged.”
Loki ignored the comment.“We hid this to spare everyone’s feelings, and I can’t believe I just said that. Please don’t be angry with your sister, just me.”
Thor smiled, never seeing Loki so apologetic before.“I trust you for now brother. She is a close and very dear friend of mine, and although I believe you when you say no harm will come to her,” he lifted Mjolnir,“I won’t hesitate. Come Stark, let us leave before we descend into any further disagreement.”
Tony was still apprehensive about their relationship, not knowing what was real and what was fake. This could all be part of Loki’s big plan, perhaps he was trying to break the Avengers by using his sister! Did he want to rule again? What were his motives? Thor could see how deep in thought his friend was, giving him a friendly (though to Tony, a hard) slap on the back.
“You humans have such a need to know everything. Just let it be. Besides, we may end up becoming brother-in-laws.”

Summer Plans (Pt.4)
Summary: Planning a trip with Bucky takes a turn when someone new comes into his life. Will it all change or can you still manage to have the perfect summer you planned?
A/N: HI!!! This part switches between reader and Bucky’s perspective. I hope you guys like it!! We get to see how Bucky is going about sharing his feelings with you (or not) and how you react (or not). Two weeks had passed since your day at the park with Bucky. That day had been fueling your dreams every night. It was impossible for your thoughts not to wander to the way the soft light of sunset had made him glow. To that hug, that had a magical aura to it. The way he had held you close, almost as if memorizing the way you felt, made you happily sigh whenever you remembered it. You could still feel his warmth and your mind thought the perfect time to remind you of it was just as you were trying to sleep. The never-ending sounds of the city, unable to drown out your thoughts.
You could also easily spend all day conjuring up those images, imagining possible scenarios where you were brave enough to confess how you felt. Where you poured your heart to him and he would reciprocate your feelings.
It had also been two weeks since you’d had a full conversation with him. He had texted you the pictures of the park he mentioned but replied only in short texts after.
You had been excited to share your thoughts, but you noticed he wasn’t as interested in the conversation, so you tried to change the subject, asking about his day and what he was up to, but his responses had been the same. Never more than “just busy”, or a “running a few errands”, or simply a “can’t talk right now, sorry!”.
Your constant daydreaming of him needed to stop now. If he wasn’t answering you, it was most likely because he was spending his time with Jen and that was fine. He deserved to be happy. He was a great guy who deserved a great girl. One that could make him smile, one that could give him all the love he deserved, who was as equally kind as him. If he believed that girl was Jen, then you would be happy for him.
You knew this was coming. Knew it since the moment he had mentioned her name and seemed so hopeful she would be the one. Knew that he would slowly be pulling back from you, too busy with his thoughts of another to spend time with you. It had been silly to allow yourself to rejoice in the way he had seemingly treated you different that day in the park because truth be told, your crush on him had probably distorted the way things happened. Just like it had so many other times before.
Two weeks without talking to him seemed like the perfect indicator of what was happening with Jen and the perfect cue to become determined to once and for all move past your feelings. Your heart was already going through hell picturing him with Jen, so you could not wait to deal with your emotions until after things got even more serious between Bucky and her. These feelings needed to be overcome, especially if you wanted to be able to go on the trip with him next summer. A whole trip with him and still suppressed feelings did NOT sound fun.
And it was easy to convince your mind this was the way to go. Sure, you could be happy for him. He was your friend, whatever made him happy should make you happy for him.
He likes her! you constantly reminded yourself as your heart refused to give up the thought of Bucky. He doesn’t think of you the same and the faster you realize that the better.
You needed to stop the constant thinking of Bucky. His absence only made him seem so much more special and that needed to stop for the sake of your heart. You were not going to let your misplaced feelings for him, ruin the possibility of keeping his friendship as he fell in love with someone else.
Waking up one Saturday morning, determined to finally begin getting over Bucky, you sat up in bed, with your laptop on your lap and planned the heck out of the rest of the trip. It had been set aside thinking you would finish up when Bucky had time to plan. After finishing, you picked up your phone and sent a quick text; beginning your “Get Over Bucky” Plan.
Hey! Itinerary is done! Everything is booked and prepped. No more planning, you’re finally off the hook.
Step 1 of the “G.O.B” Plan: Cut off your go-to excuse to hang out with Bucky.
Spending time away from Bucky had been difficult, but it was time to see it in a more positive light. If you were away from him, it could mean you could think more clearly without his handsome face clouding your attempts to get over him.
You heard your phone buzz and your traitorous heart leapt at the thought that it could be Bucky.
You need to get your act together stupid heart, you mentally chastised it.
This was going to be much harder than your hopeful and naïve-self had made you think this morning.
Awesome 😊 FINALLY!, read a text from Bucky.
That was it. That was the full extent of his text, and suddenly the determination from this morning came pouring back to you.
But then, your phone buzzed again.
Can I see you today? I know I’ve been MIA.. sorry ☹
Oh, for fuck sake!
You put your phone down. You had to be rational about your approach to this. You couldn’t avoid him forever, hell you hadn’t even BEGUN avoiding him. You wanted to be friends with him, his friendship meant the world to you. But, if you met up with him it would mean delaying getting over him, because you just knew that seeing him would only make your heart that much more determined to keep torturing you with images of Bucky and you, together. On the other hand, avoiding him today would create a pattern. It was easier to avoid an issue than face it head-on. Avoiding him today could possibly lead you to avoid him more and more often.
So, what was it going to be? Hang out with him and delay getting over him or avoid him for today and risk developing a pattern.
For ten whole minutes you just stared at your phone, unable to come to a decision.
Finally, you typed your response and sent it, not giving yourself any time to debate it.
Step 2: Cut off ANY excuse to hang out with Bucky, until your heart got its act together, you figured.

No worries.. and sorry but I cant today.. super busy.
Fuck, Bucky thought after reading your text.
He had called Nat and asked if she knew of a possibility of you feeling something more than friendship towards him, but the redhead had refused to comment.
“Grow a pair and ask her your damn self!” she had told him. “I’ll lend you mine if you can’t.”
So, he had spent two weeks trying to do just that. His phone would buzz with an incoming text from you, and he felt like a boy facing his first crush. His heart would beat fast, as if he hadn’t had multiple conversations with you before. He found himself needing to limit his words in order to avoid saying anything stupid, wondering how he hadn't realized his feelings for you sooner.
After speaking to Jen, everything had become much more real. She had understood, saying it was important for him to be honest,not just with her but also with himself. He still saw her at his office and they would still be friendly towards each other. She really was a great girl. Without the guilt of seeing her while thinking of you, he was able to fully delve into his feelings for you and boy was he completely head over heels for you! Playing back all the times you had spent together put the biggest smile on his face. That smile only grew when he thought of the perfect summer you had planned for next year. He had been an idiot being oblivious to his feelings, and he knew it was time to act.
Today had seemed to be the perfect day to set his plan in motion. The weather forecast for the weekend was just the way you liked it, the sun out without a cloud in the sky but not melting everything under its rays. And to top everything off, there was a farmer’s market a block away from his place set up for the weekend.
Waking up today, he felt a sudden sense of determination. It had been two weeks, long enough to truly miss you and finally grow the pair Nat had suggested (more like ordered) him to grow. Today would be the day. He had had enough of simply dreaming of you, he needed to know if he had a shot at the real you.
But… you were busy. He’d just have to try again tomorrow.
Busy today? He texted you the next morning, a Sunday. The anticipation of seeing you again had been waking him up early, even on the weekends.
And for hours there had been no response. He checked his phone multiple times to see if he had accidentally missed the ding of his phone letting him know he had a text.
Finally, around 4pm he heard his phone ding. He had tossed it as far away from him on the couch as possible because the sheer sight of it made him nervous. He threw himself over to the other end of the couch, grabbing his phone and brought up the new text.
Hey man, you in for the game next week? We need wings.
Sam Wilson. It was only Sam Wilson and his heart began to settle in his chest again after racing at the thought of it being you.
What could you possibly be doing? He searched his mind in the hope of maybe remembering you saying something about this weekend. Maybe you had an event for work? You hadn’t traveled back home, at least he didn’t think so. If you had, you would’ve told him yesterday when he had asked to see you. Were you upset with him? Shoot, had he actually said something stupid while he was trying his best not to?!
He scrolled through the thread of texts you two had been exchanging over the last two weeks, but he couldn’t find anything that could have made you upset. All his messages were short, not leaving any room for messing anything up.
He texted again, maybe you’d missed his first text.
there’s a farmer’s market by my place... wanna go?
You loved farmer’s markets, always looking for homemade cookies and other baked goods. He hoped your love for them could entice you to finally text him back.
He nearly dropped his phone when he saw three dots pop up on his phone letting him know you were typing. FINALLY!
Cant.. sorry B. Have to get things done for work tomorrow.
He sighed. He missed you and needed to talk to you, start looking for clues on whether or not he might have a chance.
I can get you some food from the farmer’s market… drop it off at your place??
He had to try one more time.
That’s really sweet, but I already ate and really should get back to work. Talk to you soon ok?
Well this wasn’t off to a good start. The work week was starting off tomorrow and if you were swamped with work over the weekend, his best chance at seeing you, it didn’t look likely he would see you over the weekdays.
Could he really get through another week with just short texts to you?

Seemed like Jen is busy this weekend, you thought as you put down your phone with a sigh. If she wasn’t, he’d probably be hanging out with her and not wanting to meet up with you.
Bucky had always been sweet so his offer to bring you food from the farmer’s market was not something unexpected, especially after saying you were working. But you couldn’t focus on his sweetness now. You needed to focus on yourself and your determination to work through your feelings and finally leave them behind.
Grabbing your computer, you went back to what you were doing. Not working, like you had told Bucky, but watching all the John Mulaney comedy specials you could get your hands on.
Step 3: Distract yourself enough with John to stop thinking about Bucky.
So far, not so good.
That man and his charm were making this almost impossible. Even John and his charm were having trouble competing. You needed help, you needed Nat.
Just as you were going to call her, you heard a knock on your door. Not expecting anyone, your brows shot up in surprise.
You approached your door and looked through your peep hole.
Fuck!
It was Bucky.

Re: I have problems with all sides & it is more serious, but I'm really side eyeing everyone beside Reader right now! Yes she did wrong, but it feels like the whole group is going to gang up on her! They have every right to be annoyed or upset, but at least Bucky had Steve and the group (sans Reader & Nat) to some extent!
I'm sorry but I have to respectfully disagree with this especially considering the fact that I feel like this completely disregards Bucky's feelings/mental health. The reader was thoughtful and considerate with Bucky for the most part during the first part but I definitely disagree with the last statement. Bucky barely has anyone, if anything it was him who got ganged up on during the TKWBA. Now, looking back and thinking about it, I realized that the only thing Bucky did that was truly wrong during TKWBA was hiding his relationship with Yelena (which seemed A BIT reasonable after Dr. Pym established how the dynamic between his friend group was toxic) but he was still respectful, considerate and understanding and yet they were pretty shit friends to him. I would say that it was wrong for him to ask for permission from the reader if Daisy could meet Yelena when their relationship was premature, but she literally did the same thing with Clark, the only difference was everyone was supportive with her. Granted, Yelena was a bitch. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but I just think it's unfair to claim that 'at least Bucky had Steve and the group to some extent' when he was provided with bare minimum care/consideration/friendship. Yelena was the bitch not Bucky so reading the sequel made me realize that the way they antagonized him made during the first part made no sense at all and was uncalled for. Everytime the reader comes running to them after Bucky had upset her, they won't hesitate to back her up and make Bucky feel like shit and yet most of them apparently agrees with Nat's point (apart from the bad mother part ofc) yet no one apart from Nat is saying/said anything, not that I agree with the way Nat delivered her sentiment but it makes sense nonetheless and I am someone who constantly feels like I'm the least important and most disposable person in my group of friends which is why most of the time when I disagree or uncomfortable with something that one of my friends did/said, I just try to refrain from saying anything in fear of being invalidated and excluded because I tend to feel like their loyalty would stay with our other friend. Also as someone who finally found the courage to go to therapy, I completely understand the value of having the initiative to seek help for your own good but at the same time, we'd be lying if we deny the fact that a big part of the reason why he's therapy in the first place because he hardly has anyone ( bc obviously this would be way too much of a burden and just simply isn't right to unload all of this to Daisy).
I'm not saying she deserves it nor do I think they would actually do it but if they do gang up on her, I would honestly see and understand where they are coming from because this is definitely just more than them trying to protect Bucky's feelings (not that they actually bothered showing that they did genuinely cared about him or acted like actual friends to him --except for Steve ofc) but it's for Daisy's sake. I'm not saying she's a terrible mom or anything like that but she's way too busy basking on her own happy bubble to the extent that she's starting to be negligent, and that is very evident with the last update. Not only was she too busy living her own fairytale with Clark and practically forgot about Daisy, she is also so clueless about it and even went as far as blaming it all on Bucky and did not bother to think for a second that she's the one to be held accountable when literally her reason was that she was having shower sex with Clark. I'm not suggesting that they gang up on her or sabotage her relationship with Clark but she definitely needs to be 'set straight' because I really feel sorry for Daisy. Just my two cents, much love! 💙
i liked what you said about the friend group being toxic. not that they're actually toxic. i think when you're in such a close knit friend group, where you're all practically each other's second family, you're going to think you know what's best for each other. you're also going to be extremely comfortable with each other. and sometimes boundaries get crossed because you think you're helping the situation/person when in reality you're probably not. and it doesn't help if the person being affected doesn't speak up and express how they feel.
yeah the reader was acting on emotion and not thinking logically about what was going on. which is why carol and valkyrie walked away from the situation. they saw that there just wasn't any getting through with her.

Companions react to a cat imprinting on them and following them around
Cait: At first she is annoyed. She doesn’t want the thing to follow her around! Tries to scare it away but the cat still stick to her. In the end she decides to ignore it. But as weeks passes she grows accustomed to it and ends up taking a liking to it. A great liking. This is her cat and if anyone hurts it she will hurt them. She enjoys the company, even though she will deny it. Cait ends up naming it Charlie, regardless of gender, and gets proud every time it brings her a mouse or a bird. That’s right, who’s her little killer? You are, you are!
Curie: Oh, she’s so happy when she realizes the cat likes her! It’s so cute after all! If it’s a male cat she names it Alan and if it’s a female it’s Fabiola. Curie makes it a large bed made out of various fabrics and makes sure the cat is as healthy as possible. She really loves the cat and pets it all the time. Would snuggle it 24/7 if she could. Brushes it every day and baths it once every week. This is the healthiest and cleanest cat in all of the Commonwealth.
Codsworth: This poor little bot is so confused, help him. He doesn’t understand why it follows him all the time, he is made out of metal after all! Nevertheless, he lets it stick around and does his best to make it comfortable. Codsworth is a bit distressed since he can’t pet it without accidentally hurting it and feels terrible for not returning its affections. The most he can do is let it rub against him and sit on his ”head”. Poor, poor bot has never wished he had hands more in his entire life. Names the cat Marvel, since it’s a marvel it chose just him.
Danse: Doesn't even notice at first that the cat is following him. When he does eventually notice he just assumes it wants food and that it will go away once it realizes it won't get any. But when the cat still follows him, into battle nonetheless, he is confused, more so than Codsworth. Why does it follow him? What should he do with it? This man is clueless. Eventually he decides to keep it. It reminds him of proctor Quinlans cat, Emmet. Probably names it after some high ranking and important Brotherhood member, that dork. Totally babies the cat and talks to it as if it is a two year old child. His two year old child to be precise. It’s both adorable and terrifying how this hunk of a man can turn into such a blubbering mess in a few seconds with this cat.
Deacon: Instantly turns the cat into the mascot of Railroad. Likes to dress the cat up with different bandanas, glasses and hats. Names it something like Oscar or Claire but demands everyone call it agent Fluffington. Oh yeah, totally makes it an honorary agent and makes it write reports (it’s just paw prints on a paper to be honest). Everytime the cat meows he responds. “Meow”. “Gasp! No way! Tell me more!”. “Meow”. “She did? That’s amazing!”. He somehow finds some cat toys for it. Also; cat puns, tons and tons of cat puns. Please stop him, Glory is about to kill him.
Dogmeat: This doggo loves its new friend! He will protect it with his life!
Hancock: Ok, this cat is the most well protected thing in Goodneighbor, seriously. Everyone knows not to mess with it since Hancock will literary cut anyone who does. He loves it so much that it’s almost scary. No, scrap that, it’s totally scary. The cat has its own personal seat in the Third Rail and in his office. When Hancock has a speech it sits on the railing on the balcony while he talks. Totally does the Bond villain thing where he turns his chair around while petting his cat when negotiating with someone in order to intimidate them. It’s surprisingly effective. There’s also this unspoken thing that if the cat does not like or trust someone, neither does Hancock. Names the cat Cookie, just because he can.
Maccready: First things first, Maccready is more of a dog person. There were many dogs in Little Lamplight and he loved them all. But just because he prefer dogs does not mean he dislike cats. It’s actually the opposite. He appreciates their independent nature and aloof personalities. So when the cat starts following him around he’s all for it. Carries it on his shoulder when walking or in his backpack. Accidentally gives it a dog name since he knows shit about what to name a cat. Probably names it so something like Buster or Buddy.
Nick: The cat is his new best friend and sidekick, he is Sherlock and it is his Watson. Totally names it something like Noir or Bobby. Nicks favorite thing to do is sit in his office and pet the cat after a long stressful day. It always helps him unwind and sort his thoughts. When traumatized clients come in seeking help he always lends them the cat in order to calm down. It always works and the cat is loved by all. Wherever it goes people gives it treats or pets it. Everyone in Diamond City refer to it as Nick Jr..
Piper: Probably found it as an injured kitten, nursed it back to health and after that it stuck with her. The cat is incredibly fond of both Piper and Nat and they love it unconditionally in return. It’s part of the family. Is named Scooter or Marble. Piper swears she doesn't spoil it but she totally does and everyone knows it. It sleeps in her bed and eats what she eats. Plus all the treats. Oh god, the treats. If the cat did not move around so much it would undoubtedly get fat. It’s extremely embarrassing to watch when Piper talks with her cat since she used the most extreme baby talk in the history of mankind. It sound like incoherent babbling and only Nat knows what Piper is saying. If Piper had a functional camera she would totally be one of those people that have hundreds of pictures of her cat.
Preston: If there’s someone that deserves a pet it’s this guy. With everything he’s been through he sometimes get depressed and when that happens he needs someone to keep him grounded and calm. This someone is his cat. Whenever he starts to panic it always snuggles up to him and starts to purr. This never fails to calm Preston down and he’s so grateful for it. When the cat first started to follow him around he hesitated to take it in, afraid that he would not be able to take care of it. He never realized it would take care of him instead. Loves his cat immensely and treats it with respect. Preston names it Sunny.
Strong: When he first meet the cat he tries to eat it. Several times. But the cat still follows him. Either it’s incredibly brave or really stupid. Maybe both. Strong thinks it’s weak and pathetic. But then he sees humans with their pets and wonder if it has anything to do with the milk of human kindness. So the next time the cat approached him Strong started to pet it. This was the start of a wonderful friendship. The cat is always sitting on Strongs shoulder, wherever he goes, and Strong constantly talks to the cat. He simply calls the cat Kitty and he’s incredibly fond of it. Anyone who even looks at it the wrong way is killed. Strong totally feeds it the flesh of his slain enemies. He is very gentle with the cat and loves how fluffy it is.
X6-88: Ok, this one is long so bear with me . Let’s say that the Institute made synth cats and let them roam around in the base. Everyone loves them and they love everyone. Except for the coursers. Whenever a courser approaches they start to hiss and claw at them. Nobody knows why. But then there’s one cat that’s different and decides to imprint upon a courser. And that courser is our dear X6.
He doesn’t know why it follows him but he decides to ignore it. This only serves to make the cat more determined. Whenever X6 sits down it jumps up on his lap and when he’s got paperwork to do it lays down on it. But X6 is stubborn and won't give in to it’s adorableness. At least that’s what he tells himself. But he just can’t help to scratch behind its ears when it rubs against him or pat its head when bored. It’s not his fault, seriously.
But really, X6 and the cat is inseparable. Everybody knows that wherever X6 are the cat is close behind. And eventually X6 grows so accustomed to its presence that he grows worried when it’s not nearby. What if something happened to i? Of course he never voices these concerns but he visibly relaxes when it returns. The Institute have already officially “named” the cat so X6 sees no use in doing to himself.

lazarus (2013) i just sorta accidentally stumbled onto this series by mistake but its so worth reading. strong female character who (as you’d guess by the title) can come back from the dead and kicks goddamn ass while looking damn good

east of west (2013) (hickman idk if you’ve heard the name before but hes done a lot of marvel runs here and there) is the same deal as lazarus. i dont know many (if any) people who have read it like the above, but i think thats cause they’re aimed at more mature ‘older’ readers kinda deal. this is also a really good comic series which deals with the four horsemen of the apocalypse and this whole other storyline which is jsut pretty cool and a good ride

iron man, vol. 1 issue #172 (1983) am i going to start this marvel rec list off with tony stark? you’re goddamn right i am. not only that... a stony favourite of mine friend. idc what your quams. this is me. you know who i am. now, anyway, this issue... fuckfu cufkc fuCK me right up scotty. it shows you tony in the worst of his fall down into his alcoholism and steve mentions how his father was an alcoholic and tries to talk tony back to reality... you’re an intelligent man. you must know what you’re doing to yourself with every single drop of that stuff you drink. you have everything, man you have your own company, you have plenty of money, you’re an electronics genius. women find you attractive. you’re respected in the community, you have a brilliant future ahead of you (this is honestly one of my favourites i own)
hawkeye, vol. 1 (1983) this is clints first solo run, its only four issues but i highly recommend it. you get to see bobbi morse in action too which is always a Good Time
Enthralled in his relationship, Clint opens up to new girlfriend Sheila Danning about his super hero origin. The date ends abruptly when Hawkeye investigates a break-in at Cross Technologies…and the intruder’s none other than Mockingbird! Is Cross Tech involved in illegal affairs that are destroying the environment? Mockingbird seems to think so, and she'll stop at nothing to convince Hawkeye!

the infinity gauntlet (2000) soon as avengers infinity wars got announced and thanos started popping up with his gauntlet and infinity stones... i looked this up and was curious. annd wowow what a ride ok thanos is fucking ruthless and this shows it. thing i love about comics is when everyone dies in one whole page... u dont even rlly mind cause u know they’ll be fine somehow lololol #me when reading this (was it still stressful how it all went down? yes)

captain america, vol. 1 issue #401 (1992) clint ‘im an adult’ barton jumps on mopey steves bed and tony walks into a bar despite just overcoming his recent rehab from alcohol just to speak to steve and tells him in this crazy business we’re in, there’s no one I’d miss more than you. And I… well… you’re an inspiration to me, Steve is my goal to make you ship stony (and all its canon ass shit in its beauty)?? you’re goddamn right
Clint Barton nags Cap into going out to a bar where Steve confesses he has given up on having a normal life to concentrate in his hero activities. Tony Stark arrives unexpectedly and he and Steve hash out their differences going back to the Armor Wars and make up.
tales of suspense, vol. 2 (1992) is possibly hard to find (but i’d be more then willing to buy for presents for the Feels) but ohmYGODDDDDDDD steve talking about tony in his suit and tony talking about steves clear, azure eyes like ok yeah... thats not gay... at all....... stony isnt canon pshaw... Tony Stark and his armor. His wonderful metal suit. The end result of all the technology he’s mastered in his hands the ultimate weapon for good. A good that I can never hope to equal. ... psha...w??? Captain America. Steve. I look at your handsome face… into your clear, azure eyes.. and, as ever, I feel the same guilty envy.
captain america: operation rebirth what a good. you get badass sharon carter action, a solid good classic red skull as steves nemesis, and just overall a good captain america read. probably one of my favourite cap trades i have
He was the greatest hero that ever lived. But now the legacy of Steve Rogers had come to an end - the serum that coursed through Captain America's veins killed him. Now, 47 years later, Captain America is brought back to lif e to do battle with evil.
deadpool, vol. 1 (1997) i have the omnibus and so have only read the first 33 issues plus some specials.... but... lOOK listen... l i s t en ... this is what made me fall in love with wade wilson ok and the reaosn why i enjoyed the deadpool (2016) film so much. because they included so much material from this run in it so well i want to goddamn cry about it (i sometimes do) let me also say though as you can guess... it is wade wilson so suffice to say lolol you gotta be in the mood for it but i highly recommend it
iron man, vol. 3 (1998) first comics i ever read so they hold a special place in my heart. you also get rumiko fujikawa, whom, is probably the only best canon relationship you see tony in in all of 616 to this day. forever salty and bitter over the fact that she just got forgotten about over time. like wades run above, ive only read the first 30 issues of this too so i cant speak of the rest of the run (which i will finish someday i swear it) but was a real good introduction to iron man comics in general and just a good time with cameos from nat (black widow) early on and other known characters pop in and out. shows tonys friendship with carol danvers which!! is!! so!! important!!! and never gets spoken about either after this run much to my knowledge which im always salty over because they both help each other through alcoholism and their struggles. and they both pick each other up when the other has fallen back down to the bottle or is on the brink of doing so.
It's a new beginning for Iron Man as Kurt Busiek and Sean Chen reinvent the Armored Avenger! Tony Stark is back, with a new company, Stark Solutions...but the Mandarin plans to destroy Tony's dreams before they take shape! And if that's not enough, Iron Man must face Firebrand, Whiplash, MODOK, Controller, Fin Fang Foom, Count Nefaria, the Exemplars, Ultimo and the all-new War Machine - while romancing the beautiful Rumiko Fujikawa and protecting his secret identity!
black widow, vol. 1 (1999) nats first solo run, only 3 issues and highly recommended

avengers: red zone (2003) steve and tony are stupid and literally give up oxygen for one another to live. self sacrificing jackasses. tony doesnt even hesitate ok i hate him so much (really cool storyline though)

cable and deadpool (2004) i think this was my first introduction to wade (either this or his first vol.) and how gay him and nathan summers are like wowow what a duo ok. shipping aside these guys have such hilarious, great dynamics together throughout the whole series and im forever salty we didnt get more of them (50 issues wasnt enough ok)

new avengers, vol. 1 (2005) steve and tony co-parent a new team after all the core ‘original’ members of the team parted ways after clints ‘death’ quality stony aside, this run (for the first 20 issues before civil war happened) was such a fun ride and introduced me to a lot of other characters i hadnt read much of before and is probably one of my favourite marvel runs

CIVIL WAR TIE INS ok so it goes without saying if you get into marvel comics, civil war is an event that i think you should read just so you have as its one of the biggest and well known events it’s had. the aftermath of it affects 616 massively and its better if you know the gist of what happened. it has 7 core issues which you can read here. i’m just not putting it on my rec list as a rec per say as i am not a fan of how it was written and find it extremely problematic, and ooc for both steve and tony with many of what they say/do. in saying all that i am a fan of some of the tie ins it had (there’s like 500 million different civil war tie ins m8 its a mess, don’t even try to read them all. i just went for my favourite characters and was happy to find they were handled really well)

fallen son: the death of captain america (2007) these comics were done so incredibly well. each issue deals with one of the five stages of death and shows you how affected and how shaken every member of the superhero and otherwise was by steves death. peter parkers deals with depression and the black suit comes out and i fucking want to puke just thinking about it. tony ‘ive grown up in the spotlight and known how to play audiences and fake it and show im Fine’ stark cant even speak on the podium and has to step away and is shaking and im emo go away

captain america, vol. 5 issues #26-50 (2007) after steves death... there is no longer a captain america. that is, until... james buchanan barnes decides to pick up the mantle (after much coaxing and support from tony, sam, nat and sharon) and continue steves legacy.... though... he does things a little different. he uses guns and the villians literally shit themselves its fucking hilarious. crossbones i think at one point straight up just yells at him saying CAPTAIN AMERICA DOESNT USE GUNS! ‘this captain america does’ my hero uwu i love this run for a lot of reasons... it was the first time i got to see buckynat and learn their origins from the red room, you get to see their dynamics in current day and how well they still work together, tony and bucky have very good scenes together and you get to see a letter steve left tony asking him to look after bucky (fuck dont talk to me about how steve... despite everything that they were going through during civil war... steve still entrusted tony with the one thing that means everything to him since he first became captain america... his friend, his once sidekick, his bucky) to save bucky from himself and dont come near me ok. you also get bucky and sam wilson working together which 😂😂😂 good fcking lord ok look at this Quality Content the only compliant i have about these issues is the treatment of sharon carter with what they ended up doing to her yikes

young avengers, vol. 1 (2005) this first vol. is heavily underrated and doesnt get spoken about as much as its following vol. you have lgbt rep with billy & teddy who are just the purest most sweetest beans and you get kate bishop before you meet her in fractions hawkeye and shes just Wonderful

spider-woman (2009) jessica drews first solo run. you find out her origins and the art is absolutely stunning. definatly worth checking out.

deadpool: merc with a mouth (2009) It's the Merc with two mouths! Deadpool travels to the Savage Land to retrieve what might be the deadliest bioweapon the universe has ever seen. What is this deadly object? Well, Deadpool's employer is being a little vague about that. Let's just say when the secret is finally revealed, it's enough to throw even the Merc with two Mouths for a loop.
iron man noir (2010) Marvel's Noir line ranks among the most intriguing of the alternate-universe superhero reimaginings. Through the lens of Depression-era New York, the likes of Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and Wolverine have a harsher, tougher light cast on their essential characters. Snyder (American Vampire) rips a page from Indiana Jones' notebook and turns Tony Stark into a hard-charging adventurer who must come to terms with a troubled psyche as he races the Nazis for possession of an ancient "metal of the gods." From exploring the deep sea to invading military strongholds, Garcia delivers gritty action to match the drama and darker hues to capture the tone. With appearances by the Noir versions of other Marvel regulars (Sub-Mariner Noir, for instance), this is a fine treat for fans, and although newcomers will enjoy it, too, they should be warned that this isn't Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. The one major drawback, as with so many mainstream collections lately, is its brevity, at only four collected issues.
avengers prime (2010) the first time steve and tony properly talk to each other since the events of civil war. basically a brotrip to asgard and shenanigans with naked horseback riding ensues. this is such a fun 5 issue ride 20/10 to recommend one of my favourites

winter soldier (2012) bucks first solo run by brubaker which is highly entertaining with nat along for the ride. when winter soldier (2014) got announced i ran around looking for every comic with buck in it i could get my hands on and this run was such a ride to get an introduction to him in 616 for the first time. we just ignore the shitty writing choices made at the end re: buckynat yes sir we do

hawkeye, vol. 4 (2012) for people who don’t even read comics... to try and get them into comics? i hand them this. this run is hands down probably one of the best things marvel has ever produced and is the Clint Barton we deserve. just give me a neftlix hawkeye series based on this and i can die happy. the writing is fanfuckingtastic and the art is very well done too. we get kate bishop fighting alongside clint and you get lucky aka pizza dog (for who has a whole issue of a Day in the life of, its fab) you get being reminded that as much as 616 likes to forget about it... clint barton is canonically deaf and does in fact know sign language and just... just read this. if you only read one thing off this entire list? make it this
The second Hawkeye ongoing series by Matt Fraction and David Aja, the creative team behind Immortal Iron Fist. The legendary superhero during his time when he is NOT being an Avenger. Clint Barton becomes a landlord and a pet owner, but in the process makes some deadly enemies. Plus, can he balance a relationship and a friendship with a certain red-headed Russian spy, ex-wife, and flirtatiousfemme fatale? The series had one Hawkeye Annual. This series lasted 22 issues, after which it was continued into All-New Hawkeye with a new team.

I’ve been behind in 616 for a few years now, so there’s probably a lot of good runs i’ve left out... but these are just all ones that i’ve personally read and have enjoyed os hopefully there’s a few in here that catch your interest and you also enjoy (616 is currently a mess though with the hydracap fiasco and tonys in a godddamn coma, rhodeys dead and im still salty about everything so dont go there with me #intro post to being a comics fan) also i highly recommend checking out marvel masterworks trades as they’re great to own and such a blast back to the past

batman: a death in the family (1988) fuck dont do this to yourself man. this is the storyline that brutally killed off jason todd in ‘88 because there weren’t enough votes to save him (i will hunt them all down one day i swear on jays name) as painful as it is, i think its worth checking out as you get an insight into jason as a robin and how his death came to be (cry he was too trusting and cared too much and his mother didnt deserve him)
Batman readers were allowed to vote on the outcome of the story and they decided that Robin should die! As the second person to assume the role of Batman's sidekick, Jason Todd had a completely different personality than the original Robin. Rash and prone to ignore Batman's instructions, Jason was always quick to act without regard to consequences. In this fatal instance, Robin ignores his mentor's warnings when he attempts to take on the Joker by himself and pays the ultimate price. batman: the long halloween (1996) this was such a cool, dark story and was a major influence in nolans film regarding the friendship between dent, jim gordon and bruce as batman.

HARLEY QUINN is not the story of an honorable woman and her quest for justice. Instead, it’s a love story gone horribly, horribly, horribly wrong, especially in the first extra-length issue, as the Joker's girlfriend must do without Mister J's "calming" influence. And considering just how many sandwiches short of a picnic Harley is, you know this book's going to be wild! Harley is driven to astounding lengths to free her loony lover. And that's just in the first seven pages. What follows is too strange for words, though it does involve one itsy-bitsy cameo by Batman. Just one! Once you see life through the eyes of Harley Quinn, you'll find she makes a lot more sense. Would you believe a little more sense? {sidenote: remember when batman animated writers originally only created harley quinn as a character for the joker to beat on and treat like shit? but then dc fixed themselves by making her more then that and developing her properly and fleshing her out in her on solo fun? good times yes}
batman: gotham knights, issue #17 (2001) bruce officially adopts dick "Matatoa" part 2! Batman battles for his life with the eternal shaman whose destiny includes killing the Dark Knight and taking on his nocturnal crime-fighting duties! batman and robin (2009) we were the best, richard’’ RIP me. after bruces ‘death’, following the events of battle for the cowl (if you’re a jason todd fan for the love of god pretend its a different jason). dick reluctantly picks up the batman mantle... which also means he picks up batbrat damian wayne alongside him as the latest robin. this run is hands down one of my favourite dc runs and i highly recommend it for various reasons (once again though, jasons written terribly and i hate how dc continuously puts my beautiful boy through so much shit even after they goddamn beat him to death with a crowbar they still manage to treat him more poorly)

blackest night (2009) i reread this again after i binged some green lantern and lololol it made x100 more sense. however, its not required, and is a pretty cool story even if you aren’t familiar with how gl verse works.

batman, vol. 2 (2011) this was part of dcs new52 relaunch & my intro to dc and batman. the court of owls was an amazing story-line and executed so well as problematic as a lot of runs in new52 were and things in this run too, overall i recommend it for anyone wanting to get to know bruce and the batfam better

rebirth (2016) brings us to the latest relaunch ‘rebirth’ of which i am extremely behind whoops but i can tell you right now that basically every title in this relaunch is worth checking out (i only read a few issues of nightwing, green arrow and batman but they’re all worth checking out my guy)
