So Sonic grows up in Eggman's care, gets a rad choker that injects him with medicine if it goes red so he can mitigate his flair-ups, and, for as much trouble as he gives Eggman, he genuinely loves him like a dad.

And Eggman, who's more interested in renewing the Robotnik legacy than just taking over the world ("What a...how do they say it...*mid* goal. Think higher. Broader."), is annoyed by the blue rodent. Ugh, why did he ever decide to make company with something organic?

...He also made him a containment tube to rest in when his NIDS flair ups are really bad (Sonic calls it Syndrome Jail).

And he monitors the medicine levels in Sonic's choker.

And he made him heavy leg weights to build his leg strength for running while he’s walking cause some days, he’s low energy but Sonic still wants to exercise...

And he still keeps those old kiddie doodles Sonic used to draw of himself holding Eggman's and Metal's hands with a big smile, surrounded by happy robots.

He won't say it with words, but he does appreciate Sonic's presence and is angry at himself for not solving NIDS yet.

Of course, solving NIDS isn't his only goal. He wants the Robotnik name to spread across universes. Taking over one measly planet by force won't do that for him. No, he has to think even bigger. Besides, trying to do that is working harder, not smarter.

He'd rather let the current rulers become so dependent on his tech that, if he ever does decide to take over the world, all he has to do is snap his fingers. He's not a “megalomaniac”. He's practical. And he knows his own power and exactly how unmatched he truly is. (”Sure, Jan,” Sonic huffs affectionately.) He also knows that, if he can solve NIDS, Sonic will be unmatched right beside himself and Metal.

His speed is already second to none. Had he died of NIDS, no one would've ever known the actual power Sonic holds.

He also recognizes that Sonic can channel and sense chaos energy.

Their story really kicks off when GUN decides against working with Eggman any longer. They had a business relationship while hiding what *really* happened to Gerald Robotnik from him. They want his tech, but not the actual mind behind it.

Of course, Eggman takes *great* offense to that, so he lets his robots go haywire at the GUN facility as an eloquent 'fuck you' and keeps his funding via his other contracts and investments. He also copies some secret files and keeps them for himself.

But some sections of GUN decided they wanted to take Eggman down like they had Dr. Gerald Robotnik. So, with the Eggman tech they do have, they start releasing them to cause mayhem and blame the attacks on him.

Eggman takes offense, but he thinks it's all small-minded behavior anyway. He really doesn't care who hates him. He already barely tolerates other organic beings (Sonic being a special exception).

The Eggman name is popularized as a terrorist despite his lack of involvement.

Those who work with him aren't really fooled by this. He's an asshole, yes, but not a terrorist. Not yet.

If he was, the world wouldn't be able to stop him anyway.

What actually gets Eggman to act against GUN is what he finds after breaking the encryption on the files he stole.

He just so happened to grab the ones telling the truth about Gerald Robotnik and how he died. Rather, how he was killed. He also learns about Project Shadow and Maria.

It seemed his grandfather had been stopped before he could conquer NIDS.

He was right on the cusp of the truth with Project Shadow before it was abruptly discontinued. So now, Eggman is furious that those idiots would try to pull the wool over his eyes, and Sonic, who already didn't like the government, is angry for both himself and Eggman.

Cue Eggman's retaliation, starting to take over different parts of the planet and set up more grounds and bases. He usually buys out occupied areas, giving the people there what they want in exchange for everything they have. Unethical, perhaps, but he's never really cared.

Sonic does disagree with some of his methods, but overall, he's never leaving Eggman's side. Not just because he needs the meds, but cause Egg's his dad. He needs someone who understands him to stick by him.

Besides, it's not like the the world ever stuck by him anyway.

Sonic insists on helping with some things, and Eggman agrees under the condition he's constantly monitored, hence the bracers, trackers, and so forth.

He also has to listen if Eggman tells him to fall back and can only be active for so long during the day.

Eggman, Sonic, and Metal are expanding the Eggman Empire. Not really to rule the world, but to spread the Robotnik name and get back at GUN.

Amy Rose, leader of the Mobian Defense Force, alongside Jewel, Tails, and Tangle, are dedicated to stopping terrorism. Including Eggman.

Team Dark, comprised of leader Rouge, a GUN-reprogrammed Omega, and an unfrozen, brainwashed Shadow, are agents for GUN and their own purposes. The latter two don't know they are working against their own benefit, and Rouge doesn't know the whole history behind Shadow's creation.

Also, ever since GUN has become aware of a naturally fast hedgehog who can channel chaos energy, GUN has also started setting their sights on Sonic.

Over Sonic's dead body, of course!

And silently, over Eggman's.

That's how this story starts.

Reminiscences Memories: [April 6, 2021]

Creative director of a BTS concert tour says Jin's "Epiphany" performance felt like "meeting a god"

A book by a creative director of a BTS concert tour Kevin Kim was published recently. He shared some inner stories and personal impressions in it. One of them was about one of the most legendary BTS stages - "Epiphany" by Jin.

Kim says the process of creating a stage for a ballad song was the most difficult. However, they came up with so many ideas that it would be enough for a whole concert.

The set for Epiphany frequently changes; one of the most iconic is the piano with flowers, the box with rain outside of it, the futuristic piano (that the idol ordered himself). Jin is known as the member whose songs and performances are outstanding - not trivial K-pop stages.

The director says that the roar from the audience was super loud. The whole impression the performance was making on him felt "so holy," as if he was meeting a god. The stage presence of Seokjin is really unmatched.

As it was revealed before, Seokjin was the one who came up and gave the base for the LY series - that is also why his intro is the climax of the whole concert, and only he could convey such a difficult emotional message since he is the actor of the BTS team.

Kim Seokjin is the only idol to receive a standing ovation from the Japanese audience not even once, but twice. Jin said he felt so emotional from the overwhelming feeling.

The biggest impression that the "Epiphany" performance makes on people is the vocals of Seokjin. He is the member with the most emotional and strong voice, being acclaimed by the biggest critics for the vocal techniques performed in "Epiphany."

Kim also mentions it:

"As Jin had sung Epiphany countless times since the LY tour, his vocals were perfect; his facial expressions were so natural while taking a break in the middle, walking up the stairs, and standing at the top of the stairs."

It's worth mentioning the phenomenon Seokjin became in Saudi Arabia after the "Epiphany" stage in Riyadh. The audience was so impressed by the power of his voice; people were saying it felt like experiencing something out of this world. "Epiphany" immediately got to the #1 on SA iTunes while the concert was still going. On Twitter, Jin and Epiphany were trending for days, SA media was writing articles about the god of vocals. Ever since then, "Jin's voice" trends in SA after every live performance or a new release.

Another shocking fact is that Seokjin was performing "Epiphany" back to back with "The Truth Untold" without having more than 1-minute break! Both songs are solely vocal, requiring great skills, and Seokjin performed both more than 65 times absolutely perfectly, demonstrating astonishing stability and vocal techniques.

Seokjin always gives the most iconic performances!

I have seen tons of negative posts against content creators. Some were more vague and some mentioned specific names

I saw we*alala being called out multiple times with lengthy posts , I don’t even remember what reasons they were called out for, seemed pretty stupid to me anyways

Baker’s d*zen, the fic, was also criticized multiple times with posts from people who called it ridiculous because in that fic sasuke gets stripped off his powers and yet he accepts is and stays with naruto

Also I’ve seen posts against h*eaing the broken by k1zukatana because in that fic sasuke has a drug problem and he gets through it thanks to Naruto’s love

I saw other posts like these but I can’t remember them now

Are they a realistic representation of what would have happened between sasuke and naruto? Who knows.

Is it to naive to write a story where they get over their serious problems just thanks to their love ? Sure

Doest this give you the right to not want to read the fic ? Sure

Does this give you the right to bitch about in on tumblr with your followers ? Also sure

But to me , it’s just an asshole move. People are allowed to explore their creativity as much as they want, to tackle every trope and every dynamic even if it’s naive and unrealistic and even toxic. It’s fiction and we have to separate it from real life and imo writing about something doesn’t mean you would act like that in real life

Regarding that second Fanfic you mentioned here, I checked it now and I could clearly see why it was being criticized or trashed... And the other fics (???), I could figure out the reason though. And why is it all related to Sasuke's portrayal anyway?

Let me say this, Famous NaruSasu doujinka Emi/10 Rankai is a certified Sasuke stan. The amount of Sasuke centric works she did was unmatchable and unparalleled. To my knowledge, She literally drew atleast 3 doujinshis where Naruto has no presence at all.... And yet in most of her works... there is one thing that was very common about Sasuke which these people find it to be "so weak". I am not gonna say what it is here. So, Are they going to say Emi is not a good artist because she didn't draw as per their whims???

Is it to naive to write a story where they get over their serious problems just thanks to their love ?

But this is a Canon fact though, isn't it??? Sasuke got over his Hatred because of Naruto's love is what the entire Chapter 698 is all about, Right???

It's one thing to criticize or bash a paid work like Naruto Manga or any other Movies or Series. But Fanfiction or Fan Arts are something that was done for Free and we can always chose to ignore it or even block it. I've literally answered few asks where the asker mentioned that they got into SNS because of the Fanart they saw from Twitter... But Openly Name calling and bashing them would only drive the content creators out of the already old Fandom. If there are no more content creators, then the fandom would die out eventually... That's something I wish it would never happen for SNS.

The final whistle of each of the Orlando Pride’s three consecutive wins this past week signaled something just short of an explosion from players on the bench and on the pitch.

Defenders Ali Riley and Courtney Petersen launched themselves into the arms of captain Ashlyn Harris. After the team’s midweek win against Portland, defender Toni Pressley hurtled off the bench before the referee even signaled the game’s end.

After one team huddle, midfielder Gunny Jónsdóttir and keeper Erin McLeod lifted a drum out of the supporters section, leading a final chant as they stayed on the field to soak in the victory.

In the span of two weeks, the unbeaten Orlando Pride have begun to relearn how to celebrate.

It’s early in the season. The players know that. But for a team that hasn’t felt much joy for the past two years, these wins sink deeper — and the celebrations that follow are bound to be bigger.

“When we work so hard during games and it pays off — it’s just this relief, this passion, this joy,” Riley said.

After three straight losing seasons, the team picked up three wins in the past nine days to vault to the top of the NWSL standings.

As the Pride look ahead to the next five months of the NWSL season, the team feels bolstered by a sense of chemistry and connection that its captains say is unmatched by any prior Orlando team.

“We’re building an incredible culture here that people should want to be a part of,” Harris said. “That’s always been what we’ve wanted here. We’re so set up, we have everything possible we could need. The training facilities, the stadium, the support staff — the organization is incredible. And finally it was time to just put results up.”

Building a culture was a purposeful focus for the Pride as they entered this season. In the preseason, coach Marc Skinner tasked his team with assembling a leadership committee to begin cementing a formalized identity for the group.

“We’ve never had a culture here,” Skinner said. “We’ve had great people, great players, but we’ve never really had a culture within our team. We didn’t have the amount of leaders that we do — that can be the voice for each other, that can support each other.”

Along with Harris and co-captain Ali Krieger, Pride players selected McLeod, Riley and midfielder Marisa Viggiano.

Amid a group of veterans who have been professionals for over a decade, Viggiano’s presence in the leadership committee represents an important piece of the team’s goals to build for the future.

Since Skinner joined the Pride, the club has invested more heavily in young players than in years past. Draftees such as Viggiano, Taylor Kornieck and Phoebe McClernon quickly became staples of the starting lineup.

As these young players also find their voices, Viggiano is able to lead rookies to become leaders in their own right.

“She’s the bridge to connect the rookies and the older girls,” Kornieck said. “It’s really, really helpful to have that person to just connect us both. She’s been amazing to me in particular. ... She comes in and brings up everybody’s energy.”

On the Friday between the team’s matches against Portland and Kansas City, the Pride started a day of training with a team-building activity, dividing up in small groups led by members of the leadership committee to talk about the team dynamic.

Skinner wants the team to regularly make time for these types of activities even in the middle of congested weeks. After spending most of 2020 forcibly separated by the pandemic, Riley said the group has been eager to build on their bonds with one another.

“We were waiting to finally be able to become a team,” Riley said. “We have women on this team who are really prepared to put ourselves out there and try to make a difference. I think that was the goal from Day 1 this season.”

This attention to detail carries over into how the team celebrates. The first training session after a Pride win is always highlighted by a table laden with boxes of donuts and a bulletin board coated in clippings of positive messages from fans on Twitter.

From memes to a request for a Petersen fan club, the staff selects tweets that highlight the growing excitement surrounding the club.

“It’s been a long time since this team was given any positive reinforcement,” Skinner said.

In his first two years as a coach, Skinner felt the opposite effects of online fandom. The coach left social media midway through 2019, which allowed him to mostly block out online criticism.

Although Skinner still avoids Twitter — besides the few times when, to his chagrin, his dad brought up internet detractors — the coach says the positive of the past weeks has given a visible lift to his team.

“I think you can use it as your fuel,” Skinner said. “Some players need it; some people don’t. But they all deserve the accolades and the support they’ve been seeing.”

Other forms of team unity come from more unexpected sources. The night before the Pride’s match against Portland on Wednesday, players across the roster were focused on a different type of game-day preparation — charging their crystals.

Crystals have become a constant for the Pride — draped on chains around players’ necks, filling lockers for good luck.

Pressley gradually distributed them to her teammates throughout the last year, hoping their purported healing properties could help to elevate the team’s energy. Before the moon entered its full phase around 7 a.m. prior to the Portland match, Pressley sent a reminder to set out the crystals to “charge.”

Some teammates buy into these alternative practices more than others, but Pride players agree they have translated into a shared language throughout the team.

“I think [Pressley] has a method to the madness,” Riley said with a laugh. “We’re here for it. Whatever works, we’re going to do it.”

Pressley’s crystals might have cleansed the locker-room energy, but the Pride want to prove their early success isn’t about luck.

This summer will provide the greatest test as stars such as Alex Morgan and Marta are called away for the Olympics. But only two weeks into the regular season, the Pride already are aiming for postseason milestones.

“We haven’t won anything yet,” Harris said. “Winning three games, that doesn’t mean anything. We want to win a championship.”

#16 Artists That Brazilians Would Love To See At Rock In Rio

One of the best days of this year was the day we received the confirmation that Rock in Rio would happen in September of 2021. And along with that confirmation, come the expectations and speculations about who is going to be in the line-up of the most important music festival in Latin America. We don’t have that many confirmed attractions just yet, but that just means we get to dream a little and talk about artists we’d love to see on those stages. Here’s a few of the artists fans are dying to see in Rio next year.

1. Lady Gaga

Ever since the cancellation of Lady Gaga’s show in Rock in Rio 2017 due to health issues, her Little Monsters were left devastated (get it?) because it would’ve been her first time on a Brazilian stage since the Born This Way Ball Tour in 2012. Now, three years after that tragic moment, fans are still all over the Rock in Rio socials asking them to bring their Mother Monster to the festival, and I’m sure we can give you a million reasons why she should come.

2. Queen + Adam Lambert

The absolute living legends of Rock n’ Roll, the ones who helped make the first edition of the festival such a huge success all the way back in 1985 and who are still gathering fans to this day: Queen. This British band made history in its first trip to Brazil during the 80s and had a great - and very emotional - show back in Rock in Rio 2015 as well, and people can’t get enough of them, as has been the case for about six decades now. Their performances are always so powerful they can make the audience feel like we’re “the champions of the world” just for being there every single time. I don’t think we’ll be able to stop the tears as soon as the first notes to “Love Of My Life” start playing, but we all want to see it again on that stage. Definitely a favorite of many, the Aussie quartet was trending on Twitter a few weeks ago in Brazil with “5SOS no RiR” (5SOS on RiR), that’s how much we want them to be in the line-up. Their first time on Rock in Rio was back in 2017 and fans have been dying to see them again ever since. The energy during the whole performance is unmatched even by other 5SOS shows and if you watch any video of them playing at the festival you can hear how much the crowd loves them. 4. Harry Styles

It’s no secret that we all adore Mr. Harry Styles and he’s made it clear he loves Brazil as well (remember that tattoo on his thigh?). Then, saying Brazilians would love to see him on the Rock in Rio stages is an understatement. Can you imagine what a version of Kiwi or Watermelon Sugar live at Rock in Rio would look and sound like? I’m sure we would all go crazy if it happened, I mean, who doesn’t want to see Harry’s face when one of the largest crowds in the world sings his lyrics back to him? Can this happen, please?

5. Little Mix

Mixers everywhere are crazy over their new album, Confetti, there’s no doubt about that. And a new album usually means new live performances from the group, which is making Brazilian fans more and more hopeful about seeing their faves at Rock in Rio, especially after they had to cancel their stop in the festival back in 2019. For now, let us hope we’ll hear them sing some sweet melodies in Rio in a few months.

- like when you had a project due and you were stressing out about it bc you had no time for anything else and stuff... he was really worried you'd skip meals to do your work, so he made sure that you'd eat by either coming to your place or calling/texting you, whenever he couldn't come over personally

-he was afraid he'd bother you while you do your work so he was always very cautious but you reassured him it's fine

-but you felt bad bc you couldn't talk much while doing your work... he looked at you and smiled: "it's ok, I'll write some lyrics maybe.. and you do you. we'll give each other strength with our presence, alright?" he started laughing when you got up and cozied up to him. you spent the next 10 mins cuddling, as this was the only reasonable thing to do after he was being so sweet. "so much for no distractions, hm?"

- you still got your work done btw, so no worries

- movie nights are a huge thing for you two, your range is broad af but mostly consists of marvel, disney and studio ghibli. he has a thing for 80s movies tho, felt ferris bueller on a personal level

- cried when he watched the princess diaries for the first time and will end u if anyone hears about it

-rather savage irl but he cries during some movies, especially when he's tired, he gets emotional and even whiny

- for example: he was very sleepy when you first watched the mandalorian together and you swear he started weeping when he first saw baby yoda and he's been obsessed ever since btw

- remembers the smallest things about you, will bring you your fav ben&jerry's when you feel down and enjoys the fact that you look at him like the saint he is

- also memorizes your habits and reads your body language so well that it still surprises you even after all the time you've been dating

first things first , i’m just going to say it-- margo was an accident . and her story begins with her mother , stassia , who was born and raised on the wrong side of the tracks in chicago , illinois . although she was born into poverty , she had big aspirations for herself and wanted a better lifestyle . her ambition and work ethic were unmatched , and that’s how she managed to get into columbia university ( thank you scholariship $$ ). stassia was in the middle of struggling through her college years when she met her future baby daddy . he was older , going through grad school , and the sole heir to a billion-dollar company . the sparks between them flew instantly despite their differences and they messed around for the better part of a year before the unexpected happened . stassia found herself taking a pregnancy test in the bathroom in between finals ( #justcollegethings , amirite ) and swore she was going to pass out when she noticed the double lines . and let’s just say that her baby daddy did NOT take the news well . a lot of horrible things were said that day . too many hurt feelings for the relationship ( that apparently was never that serious to homeboy ) to carry on . although margo’s mother was born into poverty , margo certainly was not . by the time she was born , margo’s mom was ramping up to graduate college and join the high society in the heart of chicago . she got a good job , a lavish place to live , and never told margo about her past . margo grew up completely disconnected from her mother’s side of the family and had no idea of the lies she was being fed over the years . early on in margo’s childhood , her mother met a man through work who she would later go on to marry . that man is the only dad that margo has ever known . he and his daughter were a welcomed addition to their little family , making margo’s home life feel complete in some way . she was provided a good life with the dual income adding to the millions her mother kept . the life her mother always wished she had growing up . in a way , everything she did was for margo . she never wanted her babygirl to struggle like she had to .

as she got older , margo went to all the best schools but only made average grades . she was never too concerned with academics and instead focused on her poppin’ social life and extracurriculars . during her middle school days , she developed an affinity for the performing arts . when everyone had to pick an elective , margo found herself in the theatre class and absolutely loving it . and she was good too . she had excellent stage presence and took every role she got in school productions in stride -- literally the best tree number 3 you’ve ever seen in your life . as she moved on to high school , she rose in the ranks of the theatre department until she was pretty much landing every single lead by the time she was an upperclassmen . acting was her passion , and she figured why not turn being dramatic and talking a lot ( her two most notable personality traits ) into a career . to really hone the craft , she trained herself to be a triple threat : actor , singer , and dancer ( sutton foster , eat your heart out ) . honestly truly had rachel berry in early seasons of glee vibes-- she knew she was the best around and wouldn’t stand to let anyone take the spotlight from her . her peers hated to love her talents because she acted like such a bitch to them offstage / out of character . not that margo really cared for what others thought of her anyway . self absorbed as ever , she told herself she didn’t need friends and generally pushed away any one that dared try to get close to her-- save for her sister . though somehow , someway she managed to get sucked into a small group of friends that would change her for the better ( s/o to ky and gio , sorry they had to put up w bitchy hs margo , rip )

after graduating somewhere in the middle of her class , margo followed in her mother’s footsteps and went to columbia university . she was really only able to get in because she was a legacy and her parents made a considerable donation to the school , but we don’t talk about it . and to say that margo’s college years were transformative feels like an understatement . on one hand , they were some of the best years of her life : she got a true taste of independence , met some of her best friends ( s/o oliver and claudia ), and felt fulfilled to be in the city she had romanticized for so long-- new york baby ! but it was also a very low point for her . back in her high school years , she felt like a very big fish in a teeny tiny pond . she was hot shit , the top dog in her department , and all her hard work and effort to remain leading lady had paid off . however , at columbia she was just one in hundreds of talented people . some with more or less talent , or more or less connections , but they deserved a shot at fame just as much as she did . margo felt like she was fighting for her chance in the spotlight every single day and it was both parts exhausting and humbling for her . she had a amy march mentality “i want to be great, or nothing” and considered throwing in the towel . temporarily thrown off by the pressure to be successful , she took a small tumble from grace . ( TRIGGER WARNING !!! ) turning towards alcohol was her coping mechanism of choice . losing herself in the party scene and surrounding herself with other people that prioritized getting drunk or high over going to class and getting good grades had an obvious effect on her academic performance . ( END TRIGGER WARNING ) she almost lost her place in the BFA Theatre Program during her junior year due being on academic probation . it took a little bit of intervention on her close friends and family part to get margo clean and pull herself together . but by her senior year , she got back on track to graduate on time and participated in various shows at local theaters to build her resume . after almost losing everything she had ever worked for , a fire was lit under margo that had her determined to push herself hard than ever before and make a name for herself in the theatre world .

after she graduated from columbia she moved to new york permanently so that she could fully submerge herself in her work . not long after graduating , she was lucky enough to book several gigs including her big breakout role as lydia in beetlejuice the musical ! it really skyrocketed her into broadway stardom which is cool . a life long dream that once seemed unobtainable was suddenly a reality and she couldn’t have been more elated . with her sudden ( and well deserved ) success , she got a lot of media attention . soon she was getting verified on twitter , instagram , gaining a whole bunch of followers , and getting asked to be on talkshows and stuff to promote the show . honestly , truly a dream ! but her new-found fame gained the attention of another group of people .. her mom’s long lost family . one of her aunt’s ( that she previously didn’t know existed ) reached out to her through social media . and at first , margo honestly couldn’t believe that she had family that her mom never told her about . but after some thought it sort of made sense . in hindsight , her mom had always been evasive whenever margo asked about the other’s childhood or her side of the family .

when margo told her mom about her aunt reaching out and how she wanted to meet her , her mom shut it down quick . stassia told her there were a lot of reasons that she didn’t talk to that side of the family and that was that-- PERIODT . but margo was #rebellious and went to meet with her aunt anyway . and that’s how she found out about her brazilian roots and her big ol’ loving and supportive extended family . that whole experience made margo reconsider what other things her mom was keeping from her . and boy oh boy was that a rabbit hole she shouldn’t have gone down . when margo started to demand her mother tell her the truth , it caused their relationship to grow tense . stassia eventually cracked and told her about her bio-dad and all the things she went through for margo . with the truth finally being exposed to her , margo started seeing things in a new light . like her whole life is kinda a lie and why didn’t her father want her ? where was he ? does he know who she is ? why did he never try to contact her ? has she ever walked past him in the streets and never knew ? it was all too much for her to think about so she just kinda ... shut it all out . she acted like nothing was different , even if her “ what if ” thoughts keep her up most nights .

if you just ignore the abandonment issues , insecurities , and her inability to handle emotions and focus solely on her success in material terms : margo’s doing really well ! she’s been living in new york full time for two (2) years now . she’s one of broadway’s most popular rising stars . having completed her run as the original lydia deetz on broadway , she’s moved on to take on the mantel of janis in mean girls on broadway . she’s learning , growing , and thriving . just trying to have a good time all the time with her friends and live the dream , baby !

Twitter has been hinting that Strix may have changed sides because of the new champion trailer... any thoughts about that?

For those who aren’t aware, Strix is seen fighting alongside Tyra, who is a known Paladin. They’re both shooting at Vivian and Viktor. This scene is at 0:27 of Corvus’s trailer. Corvus is Grand Magister Karne’s son.

I’d take it. We know Corvus had something to do with the Abyss, so how do we know that Strix is anti-Magistrate and not just anti-Abyss? At the end of Corvus’s trailer, he says, “For I am Corvus. Son of Karne! I will control the Abyss, and save this Realm!”

There’s a bit of a pause (where I assume most people would have already stopped the video and gone to watch something else), before Corvus says, “For the Magistrate.”

So Corvus is 100% on the Magistrate’s side. He’s not just working for them for his own personal gain only to turn on them when they’re no longer useful. And Strix is shooting at Viktor and Vivian who are also known to be hardcore Magistrate goons. So this shows that Strix isn’t just against Corvus and his Abyss-bound ideals, he’s against Magistrate personnel as a whole.

There really isn’t a lot of answer as to what would have made Strix turn against the Magistrate, or why he chose to do it, but perhaps something within the lore might hint towards an answer. Let’s look at Strix’s lore.

Having spent most of his life in the military, Strix was an invaluable member of the Sentinels, tasked with training their elite sharpshooters like Kinessa. He was reassigned after the unit was disbanded — sent to the front lines with the regular army as it prepared to put down the Resistance.

So key point 1: Strix was a Sentinel. Who else was a Sentinel? Viktor. And the Sentinels disbanded for one reason or another. Could Strix have blamed Viktor for the fall of the Sentinels? Let’s look at Viktor’s lore.

The former commander of Sentinels, an elite Magistrate military unit, Viktor lives in shadow of his former glory. He took the blame for what happened during their final mission, was stripped of his rank, and reassigned to a lower position by Grand Magister Karne. Though disgraced, his training and skill as a soldier remains unmatched, along with his unwavering loyalty to the Magistrate.

Seems Viktor took the fall quite well and Strix didn’t receive any punishment if Viktor took all of the blame. So it was likely that Strix didn’t fall out with Viktor and chose to leave for some other reason, unless he has some unknown conflict with Viktor. Since nothing hints that they fell out, let’s leave that point.

Strix also has another contact within the Magistrate - Kinessa. I don’t think she had a part to play in why Strix chose to fight for the Paladins since she struck out from the Sentinels long before the unit was disbanded as stated in her lore:

As the Realm descended into chaos and war, vigilante bounty contracts have been plentiful, earning her all the fame and fortune she'd lacked while in the service of the Magistrate. She still refuses to pick a side in the conflict, however, because there's much more money to be made by playing both sides than by contracting with either.

She did serve the Magistrate and in game, she could be played on the Magistrate’s side during End Times. Still, she was long out before this went down, so I’d rule her out too.

Kinessa and Viktor aren’t the only ones who were involved in the Sentinels before. Tyra and Buck were both part of it previously, though it is mentioned on the Wiki that “When the Civil War started some remained loyal to the Magistrate, others entered for their own reasons, and the rest joined the Resistance.”

Tyra and Buck are both Paladins and likely knew Strix a long time before the Crystal Revolution even began. It’s also said that Strix was the trainer within the Sentinels and trained recruits: Kinessa and Tyra, so Tyra has a longstanding relationship with Strix.

This would give Tyra and Buck a lot of sway when it comes to convincing Strix to fight for them instead, assuming they had a neutral or positive relationship. Strix does have an unused spawn chatter line directed towards Tyra, “You haven’t aged a bit.” It’s not said maliciously so we can assume their relationship was neutral or positive.

Until Corvus showed up, Strix was considered Magistrate, so I think we can say that it was Corvus’s presence that encouraged Strix to leave. Since Strix has been working with the Magistrate for quite some time, it’s likely he knew Corvus for awhile and didn’t approve of abusing the Abyss to get rid of the Paladins. Either it was that, or Corvus had another motive or something he did that disillusioned Strix.

Something super interesting and a little conflicting is that Corvus has a kill taunt line directed at Vivian, which is someone he assisted in his own trailer. This could mean nothing and just be a jab at Vivian.

There’s a couple other rabbit holes Corvus’s voice lines lead down, though nothing directed at Strix or hinting at him.

This one is a little complex because there’s no information about Strix’s motive, and his relationships don’t seem to be the cause of him switching sides. I do conclude that it is a problem with Corvus at the end, and it was Tyra and Buck’s convincing that pulled him to the Paladins’s side.

Strix is still listed as a Magistrate player in his Wiki though so... I’d put a pin in this one and come back to it if we get more information, perhaps in a future event?

Lil Uzi Vert & Playboi Carti: The Role of Leaked Media, Cult Audiences and Memetic Content to Generate Hype in the Internet Age

In the age of over-saturation of media thanks to the internet, how does someone new stand out? If people like Virgil Abloh and Nigo have shown us anything, hype is what creates the aristocracy of what’s cool. More importantly though, how does one keep hype and attention on oneself or a brand, when the internet tends to fixate on something new every week.

In the wake of the Soundcloud Era of hip hop (2015-2018), only 2 artists have seemed to sustain relevancy. XXXTentacion and Lil Peep have passed, Kodak Black and 6ix9ine are locked up and many others have lost their relevancy within hip hop and pop culture, sans 21 Savage and Denzel Curry. Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti have maintained their significance within popular hip-hop culture. They have not only have sustained their hype but expanded it to general audiences.

This is largely due to the presence of the large cult audiences of both artists. Cult artists keep their hype alive in-between releases, via the creation of internet memes. Memes spread like a virus across the internet and keep artists trending during droughts of publicity. Which is incredible considering both artists are known for keeping a relatively low profile among the press and social media.

Carti and Uzi are able to cultivate these large cult followings through their eccentric personalities. However, their use of ‘snippets’ to tease their audience about the creation or imminent release of new music is not without its effect. These short clips of music, commonly known as ‘snippets’, are the premiere of new and unreleased music on an artists’ Instagram Live livestreams in short clips, usually under a minute or thirty seconds long. This practice would help foster cult audience members as fans would record and share them to other fans via online forums and social media fan pages.

Lil Uzi Vert is infamous for this practice and often accompanies his snippets with his near signature dance sequences, such as the case with ‘Futsal Shuffle 2020’, ‘New Patek’ and ‘Like Me (Myron)’. Which only make his snippets more iconic to fans and causal viewers alike. Some snippets are released or leaked as full songs, such as ‘Futsal Shuffle 2020’ and ‘New Patek’, while others live in infamy as never seeing the light of day, like ‘Lotus’. And if years pass with no release or mention of the snippet, fans can only hope for a leak of the full song, such as the case with Kanye West and Jay Z’s ‘Living So Italian’, driving demand for leaked music to skyrocket to please fans.

The memetic content of both Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti is largely fuelled by each artists’ aura of mystique surrounding them and their sophomore studio albums “Eternal Atake” and “Whole Lotta Red”. The fanatic obsession with these albums then inflames the infatuation of fans with leaked material from their favourite artists. On prominent websites where leaked material is collected and shared, like [REDACTED], Uzi and Carti are amongst the most prolific with hundreds of songs leaked on the websites. These leaked songs then spread to more mainstream websites like Youtube and Soundcloud, where a greater amount of fans can find and listen to them. This has led to awkward moments at live shows. Where Carti or Uzi will perform unreleased material to a crowd that will sing along to every lyric.

These leaks can then transcend cult fanbases of both artists through the creation of memes, both about and surrounding leaked music. This is best exemplified in the popularity of Playboi Carti and Yung Nudy’s “Pissy Pamper/Kid Cudi”. Which became one of the most popular songs of 2019, without a release, thanks to the backing of meme accounts on Twitter and Instagram. These accounts would use the song as a backing track to a variety of comedic psychedelic imagery. The song would also be continuously propelled to the forefront of Spotify’s “Viral Charts” despite never being officially released. The song would be randomly uploaded by random users and fans, gain popularity and reach the viral chart, where it would then be removed by Spotify. “Kid Cudi” would push Carti into mainstream pop culture. As the song, memes about the song, his sophomore album “Whole Lotta Red”, as well as hype for the album in general would gain Carti more exposure to a greater audience and attention in the press. Despite his only official release being a 40 second feature on Tyler, the Creator’s “IGOR”.

The same would happen with Lil Uzi Vert, although without a hit leaked song. Hype for both of these artists have sustained, even without major releases or the press coverage that comes with them. Although unintended for Uzi, Carti has used this strategy for each of his releases. Initially gaining hype in the underground in around 2014 for the “Red” Tape and later in 2015 would officially release the song “Broke Boi”. Playboi Carti would have his fans begging for his debut mixtape and his fans scratching their heads, wondering how he hadn’t lost momentum amongst a sea of new and exciting talent. This hype would build until 2017 when Carti would drop his self-titled debut tape, with smash hits like “Magnolia” and “wokeuplikethis*”, as well as fan favourites like “Flex” and “Location”, to critical acclaim.

Marketing strategies such as these are not entirely new. Back in 2008, before the release of “Tha Carter 3″, Lil Wayne would release “The Leak”, a compilation of leaked music that was recorded during the C3 sessions to build buzz for the project. This strategy would prove successful as Tha Carter 3 would sell over one million copies in its first week of release. The last hip hop album to do so until Drake’s “Views” in 2016.

Within the age of media over-saturation, thanks to the internet, the power to grab people’s attention for a long period of time, leaked media, help to feed a hungry core fanbase is unmatched in generating hype for a project or artist.

Inside the deceitful mind of a fake book review fraudster

“Chaos and Grime” author accused of making dozens of sockpuppet accounts on Amazon and Goodreads to write glowing reviews of his own book.

On January 1, 2020, a foreign exchange student based in Xiaogan, a suburb of Wuhan China, using the alias Jacob Acerbi published a new book on Amazon titled Chaos and Grime: A Year in the Life of a Chinese City.

It claims to be a memoir about his year in China, but the synopsis paints it more as a fictionalized romance/thriller:

“Jim and a local peasant girl meet and fall in love. Yet their relationship must remain secret, for reasons that put both of their lives in jeopardy. Their story leads to devastating revelations about what really happens to China’s “leftover women” and how the authorities stop at nothing to try to prevent such knowledge from getting out.”

The synopsis is also laced with every cliched China-book buzzword lifted right out of a Peter Hessler press release:

“a window into the lives of Chinese peasants...takes you where no memoir has dared to go...a complex portrait of contemporary China....in the midst of this rapid and chaotic transformation...a society in flux...”

Most audaciously, the book claims to be “OFFICIALLY BANNED IN CHINA BY THE COMMUNIST PARTY'S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS (on March 9, 2020)”:

However, since there was no statement made by the General Administration of Press and Publication (新闻出版总署) about this book, and since publishing and censorship do not fall under the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (中华人民共和国外交部), we can reasonably deduce that this claim is exaggerated if not outright fabricated.

The Amazon reviews are (so far) all positive, albeit SO glowing that one can’t help but wonder if they were purchased on one of those Buy Amazon Review sites based out of Bangladesh or Russia (you write the review yourself and pay them a fee to post it).

This 5-star review by Warrior Lodge (who also reviews office chairs and windshield wipers) seems particularly suspect:

“The author's attention to detail is total, resulting in world-building quite unlike anything I have ever read. I admit that I read it in one sitting; such is the level of immersion. This book should be required reading in Asian studies classes in colleges all over the United States.”

SO…let’s hop on over to GoodReads, where users are more discerning and critical, but where fraud and manipulation by self-published authors desperate for attention are also rampant.

Uh oh! Several 1-star reviews, from real, regular GoodReads users who recently participated in the author’s free giveaway:

“This author is vindictive. Like his reviews, and you're all good! Dislike them, and he's rude!” and “The subtitle should have been: A Bunch of College Kids Get Drunk A Lot and Have Indiscriminate Sex. It just happens to take place in Wuhan.”

Along with more exalting reviews:

“I cried at the very end (and a couple of times before that).” and “The attention to detail is stunning. I, as others have said before me, have never seen anything like it. Jacob Acerbi is some kind of mad genius.”

Some GoodReads users also participated in a discussion on the book’s page about if Chaos and Grime would be a good choice for a woman’s book club.

The asking user, named Jasmine, a black women in Missouri, has only reviewed 1 other book. The rest of her GoodReads profile is activity exclusively about Chaos and Grime.

A quick reverse-image search on TinEye reveals that “Jasmine” is actually the photo of the late Jazmond Dixon of St. Louis, who died on March 24, 2020, from Coronavirus. But perhaps Jasmine is Jazmond’s twin sister who really, really loves obscure China expat memoirs, so we will give her the benefit of the doubt for now.

Jasmine is new to GoodReads, but just three days after opening her account she started a group called Missouri Ladies' Reading Group which instantaneously attracted 4 other women (all also brand-new GoodReads members; only one of them, an elderly woman named Helen Lim, has her account set to public, so we can view her activity. Just like Jasmine, her activity is also exclusively dedicated to Chaos and Grime. According to TinEye, her avatar is a stock photo.

Reading “their” discussion about Chaos and Grime is a thing of cringey beauty. Presuming that these are all sockpuppet accounts, the conversation that ensues on the Missouri Ladies' Reading Group is essentially Jacob Acerbi talking to himself over the course of 114 (and counting) posts! I’m talking VERY in-depth and lengthy analysis. That’s an autistic-level of focus and obsession (unmatched only by my own autistic-ish determination to document all this):

Glenda (also an elderly black woman): “I was talking to my pastor about this book today. He's gonna read it.”

Vanessa: “The underlying point that he was attempting to illustrate through these evasions and equivocations was the significance of the common law precept of...”

Jasmine: “With the amount of content condensed in this book it could easily be 1000 pages long if each item was expanded into a more thorough discussion like the beginning of the chapter and the other romances. It is very unusual. I like this book a lot!”

Helen: “Jacob Acerbi has a story to tell and important related cultural phenomena to communicate, and so I think that the narrative voice is there to convey things as objectively as possible. Having this story coming from the voice of "Jim" would make it too subjective. Having it the way it is means that the author is making authoritative statements as a historian, which I believe he is.”

I encourage you to read it for an embarrassed, sad-cringe laugh, but also for a chilling glimpse into the mind of someone who might be suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder or Narcissistic Personality Disorder - or both. It’s as if Kevin Crumb (played by James McAvoy in the horror movies Split and Glass) had access to Chaos and Grime and GoodReads while locked up in his mental asylum):

But let’s go back to all those glowing reviewers (including Jasmine and Vanessa and Helen) on Chaos and Grime’s main GoodReads page. Click on any two reviewers’ accounts concurrently (for example Nelson and Olivia); provided they are set to public, what do you notice? Yes – THEY ARE ALL FRIENDS WITH EACH OTHER! They each have the exact same 10 or 11 friends (no other real GoodReads users), all whom are rabid fans exclusively of Chaos and Grime – no other books!

Someone also went through the trouble of creating dozens of new GoodReads Listopia reading lists with bombastic titles like “Most Anticipated Releases of 2020” and then voting up Chaos and Grime to the very top of each. We’ve established that Jacob Acerbi is obviously very desperate for reviews of his new book, but can we really fault him? I mean, there was absolutely nothing in the newspapers about Chaos and Grime (very unusual for a book “officially banned by China”; the Global Times and the South China Morning Post definitely should have covered the big news), which leads us to believe that his publisher doesn’t have a very effective marketing department. So who is this publisher?

According to Amazon, Chaos and Grime was published by LSI Holdings. Strange name for a publishing house. Let’s have a look at their website.

According to ICANN the site was created on 12/28/19 – just three days before Chaos and Grime was published.

And yet, in their About Us section, they claim to “publish a large number of books each year.”

Okay, but in their Books section, they only show 4 titles : Waited. Long Enough, Looking for Nini, You’re Not A Hoarder, and Chaos and Grime. And among those titles, ONLY Chaos and Grime is listed on Amazon/GoodReads. None of the other books are found anywhere.

But that’s forgivable, because Wow! Check this out! All 4 books won multiple “literary awards”. No need to even name the awards, they were that good! And you wouldn’t believe which title won “Best Book”. Wait for it...Chaos and Grime!

LSI Holdings LLC must be some kind of indie publishing powerhouse! Who is this amazing team? Taylor Quill!!! And, oh cool, Melanie Boykins! And, yes!!!, the lovely Margaret Jiang in HR! She’s really great. In fact, they are all so legendary that none of them have need for LinkedIn or social media. Their sole online presence is on LSI Holdings:

But now I’m really inspired to read LSI Holdings’ award-winning literature, so I google Anish Rajmani, author of Waited Long Enough, which sounds like an epic read. Hmmm, seems she has TWO publishers – the other named Beadle Books.

What the…??? The EXACT same books as LSI Holdings (except for Chaos and Grime) and the exact same authors (minus Jacob Acerbi). And now I’m even more confused, because author Ash Marcus is suddenly black, and Charlie McMann is white...and a w-w-woman!

Something funny is going on around here.

Could it be that, on top of making fake Amazon and GoodReads shill accounts, Jacob Acerbi also set up a website for a fake publisher, to hide the humiliating fact that he’s, GASP!, a self-published author? After all, Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (formerly CreateSpace) allows paying authors the option to mask that they published via KDP simply by providing a “publisher” website.

Rounding out the elaborate ruse are:

1) Jacob Acerbi’s (very crappy) Twitter feed (with just 16 followers at present, though he is adding dozens of bot-followers by the day) with spammy posts composed only of hashtags:

2) Inserting Chaos and Grime on the Wikipedia page for Xiaogan:

3) A faux-foreword in his book written by one Afsana Sheeftahova, a “distinguished professor of humanities at the Tajik University of Geosciences” who is also an online ghost that doesn’t exist in this world:

So what’s Jacob Acerbi’s endgame? If it’s to make money selling his book, his long-con tactics are deceitful if not downright dishonest. Fake reviews and claiming fake literary awards are the equivalent of putting misleading labels on food; some suckers are going to pay their hard-earned money on something that’s just not as tasty as the slippery salesman said it was. That’s kinda lame, bro.

On the other hand, what if Jacob Acerbi is just trolling us? Having a good laugh while taking notes on how gullible the sheeple on GoodReads (which is largely a popularity contest) are, and how easily he can manipulate the site (which is owned by Amazon) before admin get wise and shut down his account.

He also seems to be purposely making a mockery of the tired and passe China expat memoir genre (Peter Hessler, Michael Meyer, etc.). Perhaps once upon a time Acerbi did really want to write a legitimate book about his experiences in China, failed to find an agent or publisher, then said ‘f*ck this and f*ck you’ and turned it all into a satirical social experiment. After all, the author’s bio is clearly taking the piss on all those self-important China Watchers and self-proclaimed Sino Specialists with their self-aggrandizing bios:

“Jacob Acerbi (Russian: Иаков Иаковевич терпкеницын; Chinese: 晉智明) is an American memoirist, historian, and philosopher known for his acute psychological, historical, and philosophical analyses, as well as his prescience as a "China watcher." Widely regarded for its unique style and thriller-like dramatization of complex, controversial, and true subject matter, Chaos and Grime was banned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China almost immediately upon its release.”

And how can anyone take this slightly racist, slightly homophobic announcement on his publisher’s website seriously?

“LSI HOLDINGS PROMOTES CHILDHOOD LITERACY WITH SCHOOL BOOK PROGRAM - Shawneekwa Williams, only in the fourth grade, won an LSI Holdings Diversity Scholarship to attend the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in lieu of fifth grade. There she will study police brutality and trans activism for college credit. Great work!”

In conclusion, I admittedly have not read Chaos and Grime and don’t have any desire to (at this point I have read enough China expat memoirs to last me a lifetime). But I was very interested in uncovering just how low Jacob Acerbi is willing to go to promote his book (or troll us).

Now that I have tracked down his sloppy digital footprints and connected all the dots, I am left wondering: if he had put this much effort into his storytelling and writing craft, he might have actually found a real publisher, in which case, Jacob Acerbi would not have had to stoop to such shameless depths. It’s a little slimy, a little pathetic; but also a little funny.

#1 The New Politics of Power and Influence.

Digital media has tremendously impacted politics in past decades. News that is spread vide social media sites significantly contribute to the attention economy. News employ leads to propagating political persuasion, where the more people use social media for news sources, the more their political opinions are affected. The effect has seen political players reconsider their campaign strategies to include social media to increase influence on voters (William, 2017).

By using digital media, politicians are closer to voters than before, enabling a significant engagement in political campaigns and activities. How did Trump, a laughable interest in Republican primaries and his subsequent nomination consider a gift to Hillary Clinton, end up garnering 306 Electoral Votes? Trump employed a powerful digital media campaign strategy never been witnessed before, outmatching Clinton, a big surprise to pundits (Ian, 2017). Trump campaign spent $70 million monthly on digital operations to cultivate a universe of support and suppress his opponent.

How did the Brexit party win the European Union election? Just simple and negative messages to voters who believed the current politicians did not have their interests anymore. Voters of similar opinions came together and created online political movements (Savage, 2019). The Brexit Party used simple messaging tactics and an active social media presence to launch an overwhelming negative attack on the opposite party to win the online battle before the polls. The party accounted for over 51% of all shared content on Facebook and Twitter during the campaign, despite the party only contributing 13% of the total content. The magnitude of the success was far beyond what was expected by political pundits and analysts. The analysis shows that the majority of the pro-Brexit party accounts highly inauthentic, where they were all created just in the time leading to the polls. The accounts had party profile pictures while also posting and tweeting hundreds of times a day exclusively about Brexit.

From the two cases, digital media has had a significant impact on politics. The ability of politicians to directly interact with voters is changing the dynamics of politics. Initially, politicians would meet with people in large crowds to deliver speeches; today, they can post messages and reach billions of people in just minutes. On the other hand, voters don't have to attend political rallies because all the information is given via social media platforms.

As in the case of the alleged involvement of Russia in the 2016 elections in the United States through social media campaigns, it is possible to use digital media to achieve selfish interests because of the broad audience the platform has. In the new era of digital media, it is my opinion that the power of social media to influence a political outcome is unmatched, and whoever can find a match between the digital media and the traditional television and print media has the political power in the hands.

It’s the end of 2019. The world is on fire. You inhale your mango-flavored juul pod. The most pivotal figure in the world is a 16-year-old Swedish girl.
