I want a Supernatural video game. Something old school SNES side scroller style. But most importantly, I want it to start out with Sam as the playable character, and then Dean becomes a playable character, and then you can switch back and forth. When Castiel shows up in the game, he’s not a playable character, he’s a special attack that Dean can summon. And Sam’s special attack would have something to do with his demon blood powers. And then around the season 6 era, SURPRISE! CAS becomes the playable character for a while, and then for the rest of the game, you can switch between the three of them except during story beats where it has to be one of them specifically.

There’s a whole Wayward DLC too.

This whole backlash against printing fics irks the fuck out of me, and I got some shit to say about it. Mostly "Fuck You" but here's some nuance:

On the surface, I understand where the naysayers are coming from. It's a legitimate fear that making a profit from fanworks will bring down the C&D Hammer on fandom. I get that. Do not put on the One Ring, or you'll risk the Eye of Sauron.

But here's the thing. Fuck capitalism. Fuck digital only. We're living in the digital dark ages, and 100 years from now huge swathes of our history, fact and fiction, will be lost to our descendants because there will be no physical copies of our lives for them to find in old libraries and boxes in the attic, etc.

Creators deserve physical copies of their creations, and so do the other people in the world who love them.

I don't want to profit from letting people print my fics. That's why I use Lulu, since they have an option to set zero profit and make the links hidden so only fans in the know can get a copy. Other printing sites I've looked at in the past don't have those options. In fact, the first time I ever even thought about printing one of my stories was when I won NaNo for the first time and one of the prizes was a coupon for 3 free printings of your story. HELL YEAH, that's a copy for me, a copy for my beta, and a copy for the artist who made the cover for me. Perfect! But I ended up not using that coupon, because the site required I set a profit margin, and did not have an option to make it private. Ummm, no thanks. Not worth the risk. And even though the profit margin could be set as low as ten cents, I did not want to make ANY money from my fic, because I know that would be breaking Fair Use rules. I found Lulu instead, and decided to let other people get copies too, because I'm nice. And if I don't, it's not like I can stop them from doing it themselves, no matter how much I'd rather they not do that.

But that's not good enough for the Reporting Trolls. Their argument is that it's not possible for it to be completely profit free, since Lulu makes a profit on the printing costs and the shipping carriers make a profit off the shipping costs. Someone is making a profit, and that's unacceptable, even if that someone is not Me, The Person Who Made The Printing and Shipping Worth Paying For.

I would like anyone who thinks that to delete your accounts where you read fanfiction. AO3, Wattpad, FFNet, LJ, Dreamwidth, hell even Tumblr for the short ficlet stuff that only gets posted here. Because even if the website it self isn't profiting, (AO3 for example), the companies that sold them their server hardware made a profit. Since utilities are privatized, the electric company that runs those servers are making a profit. IF YOU PRINT IT ON YOUR PRINTER AND PUT IT IN A 3 RING BINDER, the paper, printer, and ink manufacturers made a profit from your dinky little print out. The companies that build all the parts for your computer or your smartphone made a profit on your portal to the internet, who profits from your monthly subscription, just like your electric company profits from the power it takes to run your pc or charge your phone battery. IT'S A SLIPPERY FUCKING SLOPE, AND YOU NEED TO LEARN WHEN TO BACK AWAY FROM THE LEDGE.

We live in a Capitalist Hellscape, and if a company could figure out how to charge you to breathe and for every single beat of your heart, they'd fucking do it. So get off your goddamn high horses with this "wELL SoMEonE iS makINg PrOFit" bullshit. Or if you truly believe that, shut off every account you own, turn off your utilities, and go live in the woods and make up your own goddamn stories, which you can only share orally to the local wildlife. They give kudos by biting you and giving you rabies.

(not to mention; these assholes don't go after fanartists who are ABSOLUTELY making a profit off their work. but noooo, Flirty can't format a fic for print and allow other people to pay for the printing service and shipping, while never seeing a penny of that herself, despite all of the GODDAMN WORK I HAVE PUT INTO IT, WRITING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE INCLUDED FUCK YOU VERY MUCH. fuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufucky--)

The Last Time I’ll Write a Long Post About Supernatural (15x18-15x20)

15 YEARS OF WATCHING THIS SHOW. 11 YEARS OF RUNNING A BLOG ABOUT IT. IT’S BEEN QUITE A RIDE.

[15x20 Speculation + evidence at the bottom]

First off, I just wanna come clean and say, after all these years, I still think they should’ve ended at Season 5.

If you’re going to come at me with “Then why’d you stick around to watch it if you didn’t like it?”, your question is immature, and the answer is simple: I just want to know what happens next (I also love the main characters and their actors too). You can watch a show and still think it’s shit.

Call me a clown, but despite all the disappointment and trust issues that this show has given me, I would still look forward to the day where it might just turn itself around and bring back the quality it once had, or realize the potential of each story it was trying to tell, or at the very least, do justice by my favorite ship.

Never happened.

They’ve had a few good episodes here and there. I can’t imagine the SPN Universe without The Man Who Would Be King, The French Mistake, and Scoobynatural. Seasons 6-10 were enjoyable at times. I blocked out most of 7 & 11-15.

If you’ve been following this blog since its heydays in 2010-2014, you’d know I’d try my best to defend Destiel and this show’s decisions regarding it no matter what.

Because you know what, as a CONCEPT, this show is good. If you take a look at all the worlds its storylines have birthed in fanfiction/fanworks, you’d see how much Supernatural has wasted its own story arcs. The writing got shittier as each season progressed, and they’ve obviously given up in production as well because the quality in the execution has noticeably gone down too, but if you take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture, you’ll see that this show still tries to make sense of itself.

[If you’re still following this post, please bear with me, I know this is long, but I just want you to understand how jaded and pessimistic I am with regards to this show, so maybe you can buy into whatever hopeful thing I’m about to say later on.]

SO LET’S TALK ABOUT DESTIEL

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that they would give us Castiel’s “I love you” speech. To the point where, if I weren’t so desperate for it, I would argue that it was completely out of character for him to word vomit the way he did (but I’m not gonna diss on that right now because I’ll take what I can get).

I’ve valued every meaningful and obscure exchange that Dean and Cas have had in the earlier seasons, and I was willing to accept their relationship as just that--undefined, without any clear boundaries as to what they really are. And I think that was beautiful on its own.

But now, they’ve chosen to define it.

After they’ve driven every possible wedge between Dean and Castiel in seasons 11-15, to try to explain away their feelings as something they offer to a collective.

Dean can’t mourn and pray for JUST Cas, he has to mourn and pray for EVERYBODY--even Crowley, even some chick he just met, because god forbid he cries about just the guy who has given up everything for him--that would be “too homo”.

They’ve even set Cas on a path to abrupt fatherhood just so he can care about something other than Dean. Make it seem as if Dean wasn’t his purpose through and through.

And after all these years of this stupid show trying to deny it, they choose to acknowledge it at the worst possible circumstance, at a time where they’ve been so far apart, that it seems so foreign for them to suddenly come together.

But here we are. And they’ve chosen to tell us.

Chosen to tell us that everything that Castiel has done leading up to his death, he has done it because he was IN LOVE WITH DEAN WINCHESTER.

Chosen to tell us that the ONE THING THAT WOULD MAKE CAS HAPPY IS DEAN WINCHESTER.

Chosen to tell us that BEING WITH DEAN WINCHESTER is something that CAS WANTS BUT KNOWS HE CAN’T HAVE.

And they’ve also chosen to tell us nothing about how Dean feels.

Sure, finding out your angel made a deal, the stipulations of said deal, his newfound happiness philosophy, his long-winded monologue of why he loves you and why you’re worthy of his love, and to top it all off he tells you that being in love with you is enough to make him happy while he subtly hints that he’s always wanted to be WITH you romantically, was a lot to process in the 5 minutes after you’ve just had an existential crisis.

It’s whatever, right? Let’s culminate 11 years worth of tension and feelings in 5 minutes. Let’s waste the entire episode with cringey expository dialogue, and irrelevant sequences. The whole season was a waste anyway.

You know what Supernatural? FUCK YOU FOR THAT. They deserved better. WE deserve better.

And I would love nothing more than to hurl every possible insult your way,

But for the last time, I’m going to HOPE that you’re finally going to try to make it better for the fans that stuck by you all these years.

No more baiting new viewers, no more placating casual viewers, no more excuses. 15 years. Bring it home for the people who have actually been around.

SO HERE’S HOW I THINK 15x20 IS GONNA GO

There’s two ways this series is gonna end. Horribly or Spectacularly.

First let’s all take into consideration what Andrew Dabb says about it:

So, let’s start with

ENDING HORRIBLY

In this scenario, Misha is telling the truth about his last day of filming being 15x18. His “camping trip” during the last few days of filming 15x20, was actually a camping trip. He doesn’t go to Vancouver to shoot.

Jensen wasn’t “being careful” during the zoom interviews that it was just him and Jared quarantining for the shoot, it really was just him and Jared (althought most of these were done pre 15x19) Supernatural isn’t smart enough to do misleading PR, and they’re once again oblivious to the potential of their own story.

Misha hasn’t posted a “Goodbye Castiel” tweet because he’s probably saving it for last episode or he forgot because it was overshadowed by the Destiel trend that night.

So what we get is:

Sam and Dean are on the road again, up against the monster of the week. Only their world no longer has actual Supernatural beings anymore, so the monsters they’re fighting are humans.

Humans end up killing the Winchesters (despite having gone up against literally every powerful being imaginable INCLUDING God himself). Dean and Sam end up in heaven and relive their greatest hits.

Meanwhile, Castiel rots in The Empty because he died after realizing that he was happy and gay. Jack doesn’t bother rescuing him—his surrogate dad, the guy who made this specific deal to spare him—even though it was so easy for him get Cas in and out of The Empty when he had a fraction of the power that he has now.

Dean never speaks of Castiel’s confession because despite all the hints of a profound bond in the earlier seasons, and the fact that Dean has never cared for anyone (who isn’t his actual brother) as immensely as he does Cas, Supernatural just can’t have its main macho character be “suddenly bisexual” because that would hurt the male ego or some shit.

His heaven would probably be living happily ever after with his family. “Family” meaning Mary and John Winchester--two of the shittiest parents ever (but they’re not going to include them in this episode like they were supposed to because of Covid) and Sam.

Sam also gets a dog. As usual.

I wouldn’t put it past Supernatural to do this. After everything they’ve pulled, this would be right up their alley. I actually expect this ending.

Anyway, onto the next possible ending

ENDING SPECTACULARLY

In this scenario, Supernatural tries to stick the landing, and Jensen’s whole “It didn’t sit well with me at first, but then I took a step back after talking to Kripke, and realized that I had to view it from an audience perspective, I am now really excited about it” (DC Con 2019) anecdote about his thoughts on the final episodes, were actually about Dean potentially ending up with Cas. (Which would totally make sense because Jensen at first didn’t see Dean as anything but hetero, but as of late, he has been throwing in Destiel jokes of his own, so he seems to have warmed up to the idea)

Backed with Misha’s tidbit (DLConline 2020) that he and Jensen had conversations about Destiel, and that they wouldn’t have gone through with it if Jensen wasn’t onboard with it, but Jensen didn’t push back at all. (Why would they need to check with Jensen if it was just Cas going all in?)

Robert Berens (writer of 15x18) also wrote the script at the beginning of Season 15, but made Misha privy to the concept a year prior (Season 14), so they went into this season knowing about Destiel going canon.

This one’s a reach, but this scenario also supposes that Misha was lying about his whereabouts during the filming of the final episode, and him saying that 15x18 was his last episode is part of the diversion to avoid taking away from the weight of Castiel’s death.

And that Supernatural is actually self-aware of its own material (similar to how they have wrapped things up in the past—lots of expository dialogue, poor execution, but fulfills the story arc)

Since Season 15 is basically a Meta Season (Chuck/God as a writer, pretentiously calling out how he created the worlds, its characters, and basically invalidating the past 14 seasons), and 15x19 is supposedly the finale for Season 15, written by two of the worst Supernatural writers, Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming (Bob Singer’s wife), then we can assume that 15x19 is where the shitty writers kill themselves--as Chuck, of course.

So we get a badly written episode that produces a bad ending, or as Becky put it, “All action, and no Cas”

So we get the bad writers season ending at 15x19.

And 15x20 is where Sam and Dean write their own stories, and where the cast had a hand in pitching ideas for it.

Dabb has mentioned that 15x20 (Act Two) is a SERIES finale, where they try to resolve the characters’ journeys.

Because as everyone has acknowledged, Supernatural isn’t about the story, it’s about the characters.

So here’s what we can get out of it:

With no more Supernatural beings left to fight, Sam and Dean are in a stalemate. They’ve resigned themselves to fighting to the bitter end, but the “end” has passed, and they’re still standing.

So they try to figure out who they are now, and what they want out of the life they still have.

Sam still wants a normal apple pie life. Before Dean dragged him out of college to go hunting with him, he had a whole life planned out for him. Become a lawyer, settle down with a nice girl, and get a dog. He gave all that up because they had work to do, but now the work is finished, he can finally go back to wanting that for himself again.

Dean finally realizes his self-worth after Cas saves him again. His prayer to Cas in purgatory may have helped him come to terms with his anger, but the whole “you’ve done everything you did for love” speech finally put him in his place, and he learns not to hate himself anymore.

But of course, he cannot fully reconcile with himself if he doesn’t get Cas back, and tell him how he feels.

Because Dean actually wants something for himself this time. Something he knows he can finally have if he can just salvage it.

So maybe this time around, with the help of Jack (off-screen), Dean saves Cas. Grips him tight and raises him from perdition.

They bypass The Empty deal by turning Cas human, and he lives the rest of his days with Dean.

Dean and Cas know they deserve to be saved, and they know that they deserve to be happy.

(Wishful thinking, maybe they kiss a little)

Anyway...

I’m just saying, there’s NO WAY that they’d have Cas go through that whole rushed speech, if they weren’t going to do anything about it later on.

But again, after 10 years of disappointment, I wouldn’t put it past Supernatural to pat themselves on the back and say, “Okay, we sort of gave them what they wanted. We’re good now”

If that’s the case, Supernatural, I’m sorry I wasted my time on you.

hello everyone! happy christmas to those who celebrate it, my gift to you is my fic rec list that i said i would make like a month ago. the only thing it is organized by is canonverse vs alternate universe. tried to cover a variety of subjects but there are in particular many fics of the genre “postcanon where cas is human and he and dean live together and slowly finally get their shit together” because i know what i’m about, son. HOPE U ENJOY. and if you wanna talk about any of them or rec me other fics please do. :)

Canonverse:

where the weeds take root by deathbanjo, 30k, explicit “Are you happy? Y’know. Just—being here,” Dean says, gesturing to the yard with his beer bottle. “Being with—I mean, you used to fight in celestial wars and—and save the world. Now you’re growing vegetables and talking about chickens.” There are many fics set in a post-canon universe where Cas is human and he and Dean live together and slowly fall into a relationship. Imo this one is the best of the best of that genre. This was one of the first fics I read back in July when I was getting Back Into Supernatural where I was like oh fuck I’m like in this. Dean builds Cas planters and bookshelves and a chicken coop and they fight and work through it.

Cuckoo And Nest by komodobits, 10k, explicit For a long time, Castiel thought that every earthly possession other than the immediately necessary was excess to requirement. But Dean – Dean who named his car, who keeps a photograph of his mother in his wallet, some thirty-plus years after her death, who still has the crumpled ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign with a sleeping pelican emblazoned on it from the Microtel outside of Roanoke where he first kissed Castiel, clumsy and unsure, under the unsteady fluorescence of an exhausted bathroom bulb – is sentimental. It puzzles Castiel, where Dean draws the line between what is meaningful and what it is worthless. Really Gets the dynamic of Cas doesn’t think Dean wants him to stay/Dean thinks Cas will leave the first chance he gets. Also a nice example of Cas thinking he’s not wanted if he’s not useful/powerful and being told otherwise. Another all-time fave!

lonely hearts by outphastthemoat, 4.5k, gen He thinks he might give up having his own anything just to be able to step foot inside the room next door and sit on the edge of Dean’s bed instead. This one is for the CAS GIRLS who know what LONELINESS feels like.

Helionneiros by aeli_kindara, 24.2k, mature In which Dean visits his mother, and Claire takes Cas on a hunt. I’m always on the lookout for more fic with Claire and Jack. Jack doesn’t show up until the end here but the relationship between Cas and Claire is really nice.

Crawl by aeriallon, 11k, explicit It’s been almost four years since Castiel left Kansas; he'd eventually settled in an island town where he has a job, a house, and a life without the Winchesters. Every winter, Dean drives down to the coast to see him. Another fic where Cas is human but in this one he took some time for himself and got some distance from the Winchesters! He gets to be competent and weird as a human and we love that for him. I must warn you all that this fic contains one use of the phrase “making love” which would normally put me right off but it’s still worth reading. The first of a three-part series.

home where you hold me by microcomets, 1.6k, gen Cas and Dean, in the moments between their battles, ache for quiet spaces. Technically this is a coda to 10x20 but you don’t need the episode for context. Short and very sweet.

Build a Home by domesticadventures, 20.1k, teen After they save the world, Dean expects Cas to come back to the bunker with them. He doesn’t. This one is so cute it’s like what if once they were done saving the world Sam and Dean actually invited other hunters to move into the bunker with them. Obviously Dean wants that to include Cas but doesn’t know how to use his words.

the taste of gravel in the mouth by deathbanjo, 22.4k, explicit This is what Cas gave up Heaven for: greasy diner food, shitty motel rooms with even shittier cable, long car rides spent in complete silence except for the same six tapes playing over and over again, and a burnt-out husk of a man who can barely hold a conversation anymore. Angst fic! They go on a road trip and Dean is severely fucked up post-Mark of Cain.

Unknown Quantities by xylodemon, 8.6k, explicit No one ever tells Dean anything. Another nice getting-together fic.

Creature of Habit by trinityofone, 5.2k, teen The more you love someone, the more you want to kill them. Or: How Cas developed some bad habits, and Dean coped surprisingly well. This one is ancient by destiel standards (written during season 5) but it manages to nail the married couple vibes they give off in later seasons. Cas is a bitch and Dean likes him so much. <3

The (Mostly Accidental) Courtship of Dean Winchester by Tuesday, 11.2k, mature Angelic marriage rites were never intended to go quite like this. Another old one that is a lot of fun! They get Accidental Angel Married and if you don’t enjoy dumb fanfiction tropes like that I don’t know what to say to you.

Vena Amoris and Other Old-Fashioned Bullshit by pyrebi, 4k, teen In which angelic marriage bonds are apparently stupidly easy to trigger, Cas wages multidimensional war in Heaven, Dean can't catch a break like ever, Sam rather enjoys being a dick, love saves the day, and nobody consummates anything. The OTHER accidental angel marriage fic written in 2010.

Crazy Diamonds by pantheon_of_discord, 24.8k, explicit A week ago, Dean was pulled out of Hell. Now, he’s apparently woken up in 2018, and the angel that a mere twenty-four hours beforehand had threatened to chuck him back into the pit is sleepily pouring himself coffee and wearing Dean’s second-favourite Zeppelin shirt. It all seems like a perfect happy ending, but with Hell’s scars still so fresh, Dean can’t imagine how he could have possibly gotten there. At the same time, the Dean who went to sleep in the bunker, right next to Cas, wakes up on Bobby’s couch in 2008. He’s instantly bombarded with questions by a Lilith-obsessed brother and a man who’s been dead for years, and must decide between keeping his finally-perfect life intact, and the lives he could save by re-writing history. Regardless of these choices, both Deans are trapped in the wrong decade, and their only way back lies with a Castiel still very much under Heaven’s thumb – one who might find the future Dean describes difficult to believe. Time travel is FUN. There’s an excellent part where (minor spoilers) future!Dean is like, “Guess what, asshole? You like me so much you marry me!!!!!!!!!!!” to 2008!Castiel that made me laugh out loud the first time I read it. Also just a good reminder of how most problems in life are temporary and if you could go back in time to talk to your younger self you’d be like, “Hey man. Chill out. You get through it.”

The Path of Fireflies by museaway, 63.7k, mature After his humanity is restored, Dean wakes up in bed with Castiel, a wedding ring, and no memory of the past twelve years. There’s a lot of amnesia fic and djinn fic out there were Dean wakes up ~suddenly together with Cas~ but I like this one in particular because he’s initially very confused and kind of a dick about it until he acknowledges that being with Cas makes him happy.

take the long way home by dothraki_shieldmaiden, 95k, explicit Three months ago, when Dean decided to retire, he thought his life was going to end up differently. He'd thought that he might get to have it all, Sam, Cas, Jack, and nice little place to live. Instead he gets Sam and Jack off on their Summer of Love Tour, radio silence from Cas, and a never-ending road trip consisting of himself. Still reeling from the loss of his grace, Castiel travels the country in search of hunts. Driven by a need to prove his usefulness, he pushes himself beyond all limits of endurance. Together, with the help of a few friends, a crumbling Victorian house, and a stray cat, Dean and Castiel patch themselves back together and create a home together. Do you wanna read almost one hundred thousand words of Dean and Cas having extremely intense feelings but refusing to voice them aloud? Haha of course you do that’s why you’re here. There’s also a lot about Cas adjusting to being human and being depressed about it which might resonate if you’ve ever felt weird about having a body. To be honest the author could stand to use a few more commas but there were also half a dozen moments that made me put my phone down and drag my hand slowly over my face and whisper “oh my god” to myself which is like, the ultimate measure of a good fanfiction so it gets to be on the list.

It took them almost the entire day to empty only the unused guestrooms.

"I am never agreeing again to anything you say," Laura complained as she fell back on the victorian-era couch, groaning like a dying whale and being generally annoying. Derek pushed her away. "I'm tired!"

"So am I," he settled in the empty space that he'd created, and pushed Laura further away until he was satisfied with the amount of space he claimed on the admittedly gorgeous couch. Laura was a lump at his side, but at least she was tired enough to not retaliate back.

Uncle Peter smirked at them from his own claimed spot on the opposite couch. "It was your idea to come here," he told them, and Laura lazily raised her fingers towards Derek. Derek pushed her grimy hands away from his face. Uncle Peter rolled his eyes. "Derek's idea," he amended, and continued, "Think of this as exercise. You need to work those muscles somehow, and I doubt you can do that while staying at home and doing whatever it is you do at home."

"I blog," Derek grumbled. Laura snorted beside him.

"Right, if that's what you want to call it."

"I know about your destiel—"

Laura leaped at him, and Derek and her tumbled off of the couch and onto the cold marble floors of the living room.

"Shut up shut up shut up!" Laura hissed at his face, and Derek tried his level best to force her away from him. He didn't succeed, unfortunately.

"Children. I promised Talia I would send you back home in one piece," Uncle Peter sounded amused, and Derek knew he would be of no help.

"She started it!"

"Oh, like you actually blog about stuff! All you do is create art—"

Uncle Peter perked up at that, as he most often did around Derek when he learnt of something interesting. Even his mother did that. It was weird at first, but after he knew why, it was sad.

"That is blogging! I blog about art," Derek insisted, and shoved Laura away. She didn't move that far, and was back on him in an instant.

"You blog about fanfiction," Laura bit out, and Derek clawed her hip, the only place he could reach. She yelped.

"It's not my fault your writing is so bad that nobody follows you or interacts with you,"

"Take that back! Derek, take. That. Back."

It felt like Derek's sixteenth birthday all over again. Laura had been jealous of him because their parents gave him a Camaro while she'd only gotten a shitty Toyota, but to be fair Derek hadn't flunked his grades and sneaked out thrice while being grounded.

Mercifully, uncle Peter intervened.

"All right. Enough." He pulled them apart with ease, armed with the experience of several years on how to conduct with the two of them. "Laura. You take your mother's old room in the East Corridor, and you take the room in the West."

Laura smirked at him. Derek glared at his uncle.

"Those are the guest rooms! We just emptied them out,"

"Not all of them. Now, go."

He grumbled at being relegated to the 'bad' rooms, but really, he was just curious as to why one of the guest rooms was purposefully left for him. Something in Derek roared in anticipation, like this was the first step towards something big and important, the same way he felt the pull towards that locked door.

He hadn't been able to think about anything else for most of the day, mind drifting back towards the door again and again; he couldn't help it. There was just... something, that pulled at him, made him want to run and howl, a pull so strong that for one brief moment he had actually mused that the moon itself was lost in there, alone in a place that used to be so full of life, once. But Laura hadn't seemed bothered, and as much as Derek hates to even think that Laura can be right, he knows that she's right to call him a drama king.

He found the room easily enough, and he dreamt to be like his uncle someday, smart and conniving, and not a simpleton fool that he is. He doesn't know how uncle Peter hid the biggest room out of all the guest rooms—possibly even the actual bedrooms—from two werewolves, but he did, and now Derek's jaw is on the floor because this bedroom is gorgeous.

This room hasn't been painted a soft cream color like the others, it still has the stone walls, but unlike the rest of the non-renovated house these walls are plain, like they've been maintained delicately over the years that no one has lived here in, and Derek loves it in a way he can't explain. He's always loved beautiful things, but more than that he's loved the potential of beauty; here, right here in this room, he can feel that potential in waves.

The bed is big enough for two people, and Derek imagines sleeping here with the love of his life wrapped in his arms, imagines the moonlight falling through the window right above the window to fall on them, the way it would capture them, and enrapture Derek; he imagines late night discussions of things as mundane as how each other's day went, and as intimate as what they hope from the future. Derek imagines a lifetime of beauty and love and gentleness in this room, something so out of the left field that he isn't sure why he is out of breath: is it because of the voice in his mind that says he won't find someone so special, or because he is too deep in his fantasy that he is seeing a vivid image of a man waiting on the bed for him, a sudden thing that roots itself in his heart?

Derek shook his head, tried to focus again on the beauty of the room. It's simple in design, something pure, but it meant a lot to him, like there's a history here that he can't read but can understand anyways, like seeing art and feeling the emotions behind it even if he didn't know the story behind it.

He is tired, though, exhausted even, and he doesn't believe he can stand any longer. So, he stripped off his clothes, put them on the top of the drawer that stood in a corner—amber eyes, a soft smile, dotted skin that Derek wants to run his lips through—he shook his head, too tired to even dwell on the sudden but familiar image in his head, and promptly slid onto the bed in only his boxers.

He couldn't wait to explore the Castle tomorrow, but for now he slept.

With more articulation, I'm ready to talk about why the push for Lokius simply bothers me, and this can be said for other m/m or w/w ships that fans push to be canon so hard just because they ship it.

It's the framing. The framing that if Marvel doesn't do it (or whatever the brand is), it's because homophobia, and if other fans don't like it/ship it, it's because homophobia (even if they ship other queer ships and are queer themselves.) And the biggest problem with that is that it overshadows the REAL issue of lack of queer representation on screen in mainstream nerd media, especially from big things under the Disney umbrella (Marvel and Lucasfilm/Star Wars, especially.)

It makes it bad that your ship isn't canon instead of bad that there haven't been any queer romances on screen in the MCU.

And like, as a writer myself, I find myself dissecting the stories of other media all the time. I can watch an MCU movie or series and pretty much assess what direction the story is going in by the narrative points they're hitting. I knew Sylki was basically gonna happen (even if just a kiss) because narratively, that's what the show was doing as soon as they had that "what is love" conversation on Lamentis-1. It didn't mean I liked it. But I knew it was happening.

Similarly, there's no romantic undertones to Loki and Mobius. None. For Marvel to make them a couple, it would mean they'd be doing it simply because the two present as men and it would make stans happy. And while there's something to be said for fan service, it would be annoying to watch them cram two guys together who aren't romantic in the slightest. I'd much rather see Loki meet some guy and have the same type of undertones they were giving to Sylvie and form a real bond to where the kiss feels earned and warranted. Not just put him with the nearest man because "he gay lol."

And how you guys are claiming it's being queer that makes you want this is beyond me. It's not being queer that makes you want this. I don't want queer characters that fuck everyone of whatever gender(s) they're attracted to even when it doesn't make sense for them to. I want real love stories. I mean, yeah, sometimes we can have a slut character, because that's fun, too, but that's not even what y'all think Lokius is. You seem to want them to be in love. But why? Because he's the first friend Loki made that isn't through Thor?

I hate that, too, because I hate this idea that queer people cannot have friends of their same gender without wanting to fuck them. IDK how y'all are, maybe y'all are like that, but I almost never have wanted to fuck any of my friends. The only few exceptions have been when I tried to befriend someone I had a crush on (in which case, usually the friendship can't work, really, because I have a crush on them.) I also think it's okay if you can have casual sex with friends, or if you have a friendship that develops into romance, but Jesus, do you people not have friends that you don't want to fuck? I am bi, maybe more pan (gender kind of doesn't matter to me, I guess) and I'm friends with people of all kinds of gender identities and like... I love them as people, which is why they're my friends, but I DO NOT want to fuck them. Especially my closest friend. I talked about her, before, here, but she's like my sister. The thought of fucking her is gross, to me. Not because she's gross, but because it feels incestuous.

Loki shouldn't want to fuck Mobius just because they developed a friendship. And that's very much how it's written on the series. They almost dislike each other (or Mobius is at least indifferent to Loki) and then they become friends.

That's not to mention the power dynamic that exists, there. And I know some of y'all are subs, but yeah, it's a bit gross to imply a sexual relationship with Loki's captor.

But on to Sylki. It sucks that I feel like most of y'all hate Sylki because Sylvie is a girl, and not just because it's bad in other ways. Like, the reasons Sylki is bad have less to do with "it should have been Mobius" and more to do with it being a lazy 1980s action movie plot that should have never happened. I'm not as creeped out by the selfcest (as many of you wouldn't have been if she was a he, I'm almost positive), but what's bad about it is that they couldn't have a strong female lead character without her being the love interest of the main guy. She didn't need to be, especially because she was a Loki variant, anyway. There was no need for it to have romantic undertones, and there was no need for them to kiss. It was sexist more than it was homophobic (and I can't help feeling like y'all are kind of being biphobic in this case. Maybe I'll talk about that, later, but yeah.) It was sexist bullshit. And there's valid criticism that Sylvie is underdeveloped. She's just angry and something for Loki to project affection onto.

I was also hoping they'd do a "found family" type of thing with Sylvie and Loki and let her be like the sister he never knew he needed, but no, they had to go trope and make her the love interest. It was lazy and bad and basically went "If Loki girl, main Loki want bone!"

Basically, having the main character fall for a character just because of their proximity and gender is bad and I hate it (and it would have been bad with Mobius, too, but yeah.)

Both the Mobius and the Sylvie thing also feel kind of racist, to me, because the show has prominent Black women who aren't even presented as desirable to Loki. And y'all, of course, ship him with anyone but the Women of Color. Y'all can pull true love with Mobius out of your ass, but he couldn't possibly fall for the Black women. lol.

Anyway. Not every show needs ships, and this show shouldn't have had any. I hate it. It's bad.

I guess on the biphobia front, I have heard some takes that it's not biphobic because Loki being queer in the MCU which hasn't shown any queer relationships, and Loki being the first openly queer character means they shouldn't have shown him with a woman presenting character. Which, I guess I get where you're coming from... but I have also been in fandoms for a long time and I see mostly girls saying this shit, which is what leads me to feel like it's simply jealousy. It happens all the time when a long-beloved single male character/celebrity suddenly starts dating a woman. Everyone hates it. And like, we haven't seen Loki be with ANYONE in the MCU, because mostly he's been doing villainy and his dating life hasn't been relevant. If the demigod says he's bi, he can kiss a woman. Especially a woman version of himself. Like I said, I hate it for other reasons, but pretending it's because he should have kissed Mobius is utterly delusional. He probably shouldn't have kissed anyone. Not in this series. There was no reason for any canon romance, especially because the show has a season 2 and we'll have time to see Loki develop earned, deserved romance with someone.

I'd much rather see them create a character just to be his boyfriend than have y'all push Marvel into making Lokius canon, which is a nonsense ship that only happened because Mobius is the only prominent male-presenting character before we meet the other Lokis.

My sincere wish is for people to remember that their ships are just ships and to enjoy them without getting all self-righteous about it. I TOLD y'all that Lokius wasn't gonna be canon like 4 episodes back, and here y'all are acting shocked and like Marvel took something from you. NOBODY expected y'all to ship Lokius. It's not even queerbait.

You can make clear arguments as to why Sambucky was queerbait. It's there in undertones in the actual series.

You cannot watch Loki and tell me you thought it was queerbait, unless you think men can't have conversations or hug goodbye without being romantically involved. Which means, in my opinion, that you need to learn about healthy masculinity.

Again, this is not a defense of Marvel. They DO need to let characters be queer, for real, and not just by saying " A bit of both". Like, let Loki be queer. Let Deadpool be queer. Let these queer characters be queer on screen. Yes.

But please stop making it about your ship. I'd rather see a flashback of Loki dating a guy and see him kiss someone he loved back on Asgard than watch y'all force Lokius. Because my queer rep is not about your crackship. It really isn't. And the fact that y'all keep calling us homophobic for not liking your ship REALLY needs to be addressed.

Like, when will y'all stop? I got on Stucky shippers about this shit in the past. All of us gay as hell, too, we just don't like YOUR ship. A lot of us like other queer ships. A lot of us like queer ships in other fandoms, too, and even have queer OCs. YOUR ship just ain't it. Stop forcing it. Literally, most of the ship wars between MCU fans have been queer ship vs queer ship, not really queer ship vs straight ship. Like, the number one Stucky rival ship was Stony. Not Steggy. People are not homophobic for not wanting your ship.

Sometimes it's because they ship something else.

And sometimes, like me, it's because they want something to make sense narratively and not happen for the sake of it happening. It's always better writing to have a character meetcute a new love interest than to magically turn a platonic friendship into a romantic relationship. Like, even when the characters are straight. Like, when Moesha dated Hakeem. It was just weird, even if he was kind of a great boyfriend. He was just supposed to be her friend, and people didn't really like it because it didn't fit narratively.

And that's why ships for the most part should be left to fanfiction, with the exception of a few where fans are right to call out the writers for not making it canon because it's clearly bait (like what happened to Destiel shippers. To see Lokius shippers compare themselves to THAT was so ridiculous. Destiel shippers had a decade of evidence only to be let down by a criminally unfair ending. Lokius shippers saw two men have a deep conversation once and lost their minds.)

Anyway, I'm not saying don't ship Lokius. I don't even hate it, really. I just think it obviously shouldn't be canon, and fans pretending like they were robbed of it is ridiculous. Literally, Ao3 exists for this reason. I will never see Steve fuck Sam Wilson, so I wrote it into my fanfic. I am not mad that they didn't actually date in the main MCU storyline.

Do we ever stop and just appreciate how every time Jensen shares one of his Dean headcanons with us it's the angstiest shit you ever heard but also leaves you sitting staring at your wall for days completely recontextualizing everything you thought you knew? Like somehow Dean becomes exponentially sadder and more complex every time Jensen Ross Ackles opens his goddamn mouth and I live for that shit.

I think I'm just fully realizing, as I’m half-rewatching the show via YouTube reaction videos...we really weren't supposed to love Dean. And we really were not the target audience, and by we I mean a much larger segment of folks than you may think. Eric Kripke (and also Robert Singer) didn't want a bunch of queer OR mentally ill folks OR women OR people of color OR abuse survivors. Hell, he didn't even really want an audience of macho manly men!

Eric Kripke was aiming for an audience of Eric Kripkes--the kind of whiny pseudo-intellectual nerdbro who finds men like s1 Dean threatening in real life, thinks being rejected romantically by a woman is comparable to real hardship, views any unfamiliar form of intimacy with some base level of suspicion, and expresses disgust at other men’s promiscuity not because he has more “respect” for women (and don’t get me started on the puritanism of equating sex with disrespect automatically), but because he resents that he can't do the same.

Eric Kripkes hate men like Dean and envy them in equal measure. Dean is aspirational, a power fantasy, but he’s not the character Kripke actually identifies with. That's s1 Sam: the soft-spoken, smart, nerdy, sensitive guy who is special and whose niceness is rewarded by women improbably throwing themselves at him.

Dean’s hook-ups in the early seasons are almost all girls he blatantly, openly hits on or pursues in a way that, according to Nice Guy(TM) logic, would be creepy if he didn’t look the way he does (it’s still creepy, to be clear, only Nice Guys(TM) ever think it’s not). Whereas Sam’s hook-ups during these seasons almost always initiate things first, despite being in situations where hooking up with the 7-foot rando who just rolled into town would realistically be the furthest thing from their minds.

Dean is the Nice Guy(TM)’s power fantasy of being able to “get away with” whatever he wants by virtue of being hot (and assuming all women are just completely shallow), whereas Sam is the Nice Guy(TM) self-insert that, in fiction, actually “wins” girls by being comparatively respectful.

That’s why Dean is written the way he is in the early seasons, where he rides this weird line between being downright irredeemably sleazy and accidentally actually deconstructing toxic masculinity in his characterization. Kripke wants to be Dean but also resents the very existence of Deans (that is, the surface-level Dean, the Masculine Performance) in the world, and resents his own inability to inhabit that role.

They confuse him, and they make him feel insecure, but instead of bucking that whole worldview he fully buys into it via the way he makes fun of it. So Dean becomes this weird hodgepodge of highly performative toxic masculine traits interspersed with moments of genuine emotion that were probably intended to read as weakness. And it’s supposed to be over-the-top and vaguely ridiculous and ultimately, kind of pathetic.

But then he made the inspired mistake of casting Jensen fucking Ackles, the man who’s forgotten more about gender performativity than most of us will ever fucking know, in this highly gendered, highly contradictory role.

When you hand Jackles contradictions he just turns them into character complexity, so suddenly instead of watching a show about Regular Guy being sucked into his toxic family’s heinous world of monsters, you’re watching a show about Manly Guy desperately trying to hold his family together against impossible odds through increasingly self-destructive means while his facade of masculinity systematically crumbles around him.

And it’s fucking fascinating, so fascinating that every subsequent writer leans further into that, until that’s almost the entirety of the show. Hell, even Kripke leans into it somewhat, maybe subconsciously, fairly early on. Watch the back half of season 1: it’s extremely Dean-perspective heavy where the first half of the season was more evenly split. Still, the perspective remains more or less balanced in seasons 2 and 3, only to slant extremely far towards Dean in season 4 and never really course-correct after that.

In retrospect it should’ve been obvious that Ruby was playing Sam from the get-go, because the show simply does not invest much time or effort into getting you invested in her relationship with Sam. Certainly not as much time and effort as it expends on making you feel Dean’s worry and distrust, or in building up his parallel relationship with Castiel. And boy, once that relationship takes off, there’s really no more hope of this ever being the Sam show again.

The most it can hope for is to evenly split focus between the two brothers, although most of the time it doesn’t even manage that. By the time we get halfway through the show, it’s pretty solidly the story of Manly Guy having a constant gender and sexuality crisis trying to keep his increasingly queer found family together from within the confines of his glass closet, while the angel who pulled him out of Hell chips steadily away at the closet’s walls.

There are hardly any women in the story at that point that aren’t written as sisters or mothers to the main characters. There are precious few hook-ups for either brother anymore, either, pursuing and pursued alike. There’s no power fantasy to speak of, and no low-key competition between the brothers related to any of these things.

Instead you have Manly Guy embracing his homemaking skills while forming affectionate homosocial bonds with men who are more secure in their masculinity than he is, which he finds both freeing and comforting. And you have Regular Guy setting boundaries, going vegan, and bonding with the women in his life over surviving similar kinds of trauma.

They co-parent a child with their gay angel best friend who likes pop music and is Manly Guy’s most profound significant homosocial bond. Oh yeah, and they also hunt monsters and save the world sometimes, but mostly those plots exist as allegories for the things they’re working through, or catalysts for their continued character development.

Like no fucking wonder Kripke (and later, Singer) didn’t get the audience he was after. And also thank fucking god he didn’t.

One of the frustrating things about Supernatural being filmed in and around Vancouver instead of on actual U.S. backroads is the lack of batshit religious signage that's a key feature around the Bible Belt and in especially rural parts of the Midwest, and would have taken on a deliciously ominous tone in seasons 4-5, season 11, and season 15 in particular.

Like where are the Jesus Lives signs painted in what might well be dried blood on rotting wooden planks nailed to random trees along the state highway? Where are the falling down barns no one has bothered to repair, but someone sure put in the effort to paint GOD IS ALWAYS WATCHING on the side facing the road? Where are the gigantic white crosses looming over the interstate like pale angels poised to rain God's wrath upon us? Where are the wackadoo church bulletins trying to sound cheeky and relevant?

Truckstop America's aesthetic is steel, concrete, and the smell of gasoline, true. But throughout a good third or more of the country it's ALSO batshit religious signage and I think it's pretty indicative of how they failed to go hard enough with their own premise that in fifteen seasons we never see any.

Supernatural fanfiction: Post-canon fix-it fic. After they defeated Chuck, Dean locks himself in his room unable to deal with losing Castiel now that everything is over. Jack lost his powers in the fight against Chuck and follows Dean's example and locks himself in his room, leaving Sam to try and help them get back on their feet.

The title “mercury” is based off of Imagine Dragons’ new album: Mercury – Act I. This album inspired this story. The chapter titles: Wrecked, It’s Ok, #1, Giants, Easy Come Easy Go, Follow You, and One Day are all songs from the album.

They won, but Dean feels emptier than ever. When they took on Chuck, the fight between him and Jack left them both powerless. It didn’t really feel like winning. Especially since Dean can tell Jack is having a hard time adjusting to being a human. Or whatever he is now. He’s just a kid stuck in an adult’s body. It’s fucked up, and Dean can’t handle it.

He’s managed to push aside all his feelings about Cas when they were still hunting fucking God. They all were. But now it’s over.

Dean felt numb the entire drive back to the bunker. Sam was sitting in the back of the Impala, checking on Jack. Dean didn’t even say a word. It was all too much. When they got back home, Dean locked himself in his room. The second he was alone in the quiet and the stillness of his room with his jacket with Cas’ handprint hanging on his chair, he lost it. It all came crashing down on him. He’s never cried harder.

It’s been days, and Dean’s only left his room to grab booze. His drinking has never been worse, but he doesn’t care. Honestly, the only reasons Dean hasn’t completely given up are Jack and Sam. He can’t off himself after all they’ve been through. And the visual of Sam walking into Dean’s room to find his corpse makes Dean nauseous. He won’t do that to his little brother.

Dean doesn’t even know how Jack is, but he can’t bring himself to go talk to the kid. Then he feels guilty for not checking up on him, so he drinks, and the cycle repeats.

He drinks to empty his mind and numb his feelings. He stares at the handprint on the jacket. The tv is always on to bring some noise into the deafening silence. He can’t stand to be alone one second with his thoughts.

Time has lost all meaning. It’s always been difficult to tell the time in the bunker where’s there’s nothing but hallways and florescent lights, but any last sense of time Dean has is gone. The alcohol has disoriented him enough to mess up his internal clock, and he doesn’t leave his bed. Sam checks on him every once in a while. He brings food, but he doesn’t say anything. Dean is grateful.

Dean is perpetually tired but also too wired to get any restful sleep. He’s created his own personal Hell, and he’s glad. He doesn’t deserve to be happy since he is the literal reason Cas is dead. He doesn’t deserve to be happy, because he has always treated Jack like shit and is continuing to do so. He doesn’t deserve to be happy, because everyone is better without him.

Dean stares hazily at the tv and finishes his beer. They’re running out of booze, and Sam isn’t restocking. He’s doing it on purpose, and Dean resents him for it. Dean tosses the can on the floor, where the rest of the cans and bottles lay. It’s filthy in here and probably smells. Dean can’t make himself care.

The door opens with a low creak. Dean doesn’t look. It’s probably Sam bringing him food. He knows it’s bad, because Sam has been bringing him burgers and milkshakes. He doesn’t deserve it.

There’s a pause, and Dean thinks he might’ve imagined hearing the door open, but then he hears it creak shut. Dean rubs his eyes with a sigh and looks over, expecting to see a plate with a burger on the ground, but Jack is standing there, watching him. One of his hands is on the door as if he’s not sure he’s allowed to be here. The kid is in dinosaur pajamas Dean bought him months ago. His eyes are puffy and blood shot. Parts of his hair are sticking up at jagged angles.

They lock eyes, and tears well up in Jack’s eyes. “I miss him.” Jack’s voice breaks when he says it, and he covers his face with his hands. His shoulders start shaking, and a terrible sob escapes him. Dean is across the room before he even realizes he’s moved.

Dean pulls Jack into a hug, and Jack clings onto Dean like he’s drowning and Dean is his lifeguard. Jack cries into Dean’s shoulder. Dean can feel the tears soaking through his shirt.

“I—” Jack begins then hiccups. He sucks in a shaky breath, but he doesn’t sound any more composed. “I was going to save him. After—” he hiccups again “—after we defeated Chuck I was going to bring him back.”

Dean holds him tighter, tears slipping down his face now.

“I should have done it before,” Jack sobs.

Dean finds himself pressing kisses into Jack’s hair. “Jack,” Dean says. It’s the first word he’s said in days. His voice is rough and ragged. “It’s not your fault.”

“Yes, it is!” He hiccups again. “I—” another hiccup “—I should have—” a third hiccup. The kid’s on the verge of hysteria.

“Okay, shh, shh, just take a minute,” Dean says softly. He rubs Jack’s back with one hand and runs his other through Jack’s hair.

Jack cries, and Dean isn’t sure how long they stay like that. Dean closes his eyes and lets his world become the kid. He blocks out the tv playing in the background. He blocks out the acrid smell of the days-old beer cans on his floor. He focuses on Jack’s warmth and holding him close.

Jack’s breathing finally settles down. He sniffs and swallows. “I don’t want to be here anymore.” Jack says it so quietly Dean almost misses it.

“In my room?”

“No. I don’t want to be alive anymore.”

Dean’s blood runs cold, and he kisses Jack’s head. He knows he should tell Jack not to think that way, but all he does is murmur, “Me either.” It’s probably the worst thing he can say, but he’s just too tired to think of anything else. He doesn’t have it in him to lie and make up some positive bullshit right now.

Jack’s suddenly laughing.

Dean blinks in surprise and pulls back far enough to look at Jack. Jack has tear tracks down his cheeks, and his eyes are even more red and swollen than before. His hair is plastered to his face where he had been leaning against Dean, but he’s laughing.

Jack manages to compose himself for a second and says, “I don’t think Castiel would be very happy with us right now.”

It isn’t funny, but Dean laughs, too. It’s a little hysterical, but Dean can’t stop himself. “No, I don’t think he would.”

They both laugh again, and Dean pulls Jack back into an embrace. They eventually calm down, and Dean closes his eyes again.

“Dean?” Jack asks quietly. It’s tentative, as if Jack is bracing himself for something.

“Yeah?”

“Can…Can I sleep here tonight?” He sounds so small, and Dean is reminded that he is a literal three-year-old.

“Yeah, of course you can.”

Jack sniffles. “Thank you.”

Dean swallows. “You don’t have to ask, you know. You can always come to me.”

“Okay, Dean.”

The Bunker Party - Sept Debrief

Hey my darlings!

We promised you a bunker edition of our Bunker Party and man...we were not lying. We have SO much stuff to share with you, my little excited fingers cannot type fast enough.

September’s Bunker Party was just amazing. It was so lovely to see so many new faces! My cheeks still ache from the laughs and it was so lovely to see so many of you sharing your love for all things Supernatural. Seriously, SPN does have THEE best fandom and I’m so glad to be a part of it.

6 and a half hours we were hanging out for…SIX AND A HALF! To see so many beautiful faces, hear so many lovely voices and to spend time with new people was just a dream! The support from you guys for each other, the love in this fandom; I can’t express how much I adore it.

Me and @katehuntington love holding these events and we are already planning the next live stream (date to be announced) but it will be in October and my even hold a spooky theme...

So…to the debrief!

@alleiradayne: Jeanna is such a sweetheart and we absolutely adored having her on our livestream! As we mentioned last time, she had been commissioned to write a SPN fanfic piece for a charity auction (details below) and she told us all about it on the stream!

If you like destiel, she is writing a Destiel fanfiction called Long Jacket which has a take that we’ve not heard of before.

She is also writing a new series which is going to be quote long apparently! Like 60 chapters! But we are SO there for it.

What fics do you like/read/recommend?

Difficult question, cause recommendations I can give but only very limited.

What I like? Slow Burn, Angst, Fluff, damn it I also read Smut sometimes, AUs (I mention something about that later). Basically: I want to suffer, I want to cry, but give me a happy ending. I LOVE good interpreted characters and I LOOOVE well-written relations. What I mean by that is, basically, if a sibling relationship is weirdly written, I tend to just.. not read the story at all. Does that make sense? Whatever.

While I read a lot, I rarely save what I read and more often than not I kind of.. lose half of the fics I read? There’s one I am currently obsessed with, which I found via @worstloki:

doubt truth to be a liar. absolutely amazing tbh. it’s about a younger Loki suddenly appearing in the Avengers Tower, without any memories about what happened (post Ragnarok), it’s got trans Peter & cultural differences between Asgard and Midgard I find quite interesting. Cause while I do know that comic Loki mentioned that the concept of gender and sexuality do not exist in Asgard the way they do on Midgard (I think that is what he said), I found the differences portrayed in that story very believable and also super interesting, cause I didn’t think of that? Especially interesting when you know a bit about the Viking age and its culture, which MCU Asgard clearly was set to resemble.

So, next I need to put a little disclaimer about myself: I normally do not like Reader fics, because more often than not they’re super ooc and I just find this whole.. “y/n” thing kind of offputting and it just makes me uninterested very often. However I have a friend who do likes these kind of stories. And she lets me know. And she needs someone to talk about these stories, so there’s that. And I read a handfull of them and tbh only those I actually find 1. well-written, 2. well characterised & 3. no darn use of “y/n”, cause no I never imagine myself there, I create characters in my head for each story.

A Job Million PRs Would Die For by @saiansha. Jesus fucking christ the amount of times I re-read this story. Honestly, it is, I think, the first Reader fanfic I read in my entire life, was super weary at first cause. idk. I know some people on this website (and AO3, let’s be real) that just post very weird stuff. This one has an interpretation of Loki that I can 100% believe and it is one I support. That was one of my main reasons to continue reading, but it’s also the general writing style that I like and that there’s a Reader character, who is not a helpless damsel in distress. Ultimate proof of that was the most recent chapter. (dear author knows my thoughts, I dared to dm cause I was just. very enthuasiastic about this story)

Broken Crown by @michelleleahhh. Second one I started reading at one point cause my friend kept asking me to read it. a kind-of AU? It’s set in Asgard. That’s what you need to know. Again, a story that had me from the beginning, once I started. For the writing style and for the characterisation. The story really had me guessing sometimes, cause,, well-written! and really good dialogue!! damn you Freya!! and a decent Reader character that doesn’t have me ripping out my own intestines. (also very enthusiastic about this story, yes this phrasing as a meaning)

Foruneyti by Evaldrynn or @foruneyti (I tagged the blog for the story here, too, don’t mind me pls) Also kind of an AU, basically just Asgard. Anyway, I am so in love with the aesthetic this story gives me. It’s hard to explain, but after 85 chapters I just have this very clear picture in my head of what I think this story looks like. Now, Reader here is also good and well-written, the Original Characters are likeable and not super overpowered, neither is Reader. The canon characters are, in my humble opinion, interpreted nicely and tbh for some reason I just always imagine them in this comic style, rather than the way the films portray them.

Of Different Emotions by @wanderingworldwarrior. my. goodness. I am in love with these stories and I am just. so desperate for an update. idk if we will ever get one, but honestly, I re-read it this week and. Just stopped after the second part, cause I can’t deal with the pain of the third part one more time. First part is set pre-Thor 1, second part is set during Thor 1 and the third during The Avengers. I love the Reader character a lot and the Original Characters just. belong so much to the story. idk I just love the way this story is written, I love the characters, I just love it a lot, alright.

Onwards to anime. Bungou Stray Dogs:

where your loyalties lie by writingfromtheshadows. this!! story!! it’s so good!! it’s a Yakuza!AU and oh my gooood. It’s all just so so well put, compared to canon and I love the dynamics Dazai and Chuuya have here.

Forgettable Significance by Witheryvine. THIS STORY. took my sanity, threw it out of the window and then spat on me. It broke my heart so very often, cause it manages to make you question yourself. morals about relationships out of the window. I re-read this story like five times.

still still still by toriosaurus. I was waiting, desperately, for every single chapter. This AU gives me everything I need and more. I remember doing fanart for this story and being very proud of it, even though it did no justice to the original story. Normally I am not a fan of, idk what to call it, no power AUs because most people just do the thing wrong for me. But this one hits.

If I recommend Twist and Shout now I get thrown into Turbohell, so idk if you want a very sinful Destiel fanfic, then read

Hot Water by Chiyume. I was 16, I decided to read Destiel fanfictions and this one kind of did it for me.

Don’t @ me. I really read a lot more than this, but I suck at organising myself and I just barely ever save shit. Also it’s late, I’ve been on a video call with my friend for over three hours now and I just like to clown when I am tired. Anyway, I used to bookmark Destiel fanfics back in the day and the rest is just. Read it, kudos, comment, and then I forget to save. The multichapter fics are often still in my subscribes, but sometimes. just.. not.

You do not understand people. Please consider my arguments for a moment. The problem isn't in Destiel not being confirmed this episode. The problem is in the facts that:

1. The actors grief was gone by 2nd half, out of nowhere, with no explanation.

2. The solution to kill God just randomly appeared and what's worse it's something that Winchesters couldn't possibly know about until the moment Jack told them something was off. So what's up with that BS montage like they all just noticed things happening to Jack themselves? Since when they are so perceptive? They literally went after Death in last episode because they didn't even for a second consider that it's THE GOD who is the actual BIG BAD was the source of problems...

3. There is no way that Jack wouldn't think of bringing Cas back instantly

4. There is no way that Dean (even with no romantic feelings) would not instantly asks Jack for Cas back

5. There is no way Sam and Dean would just go flowers and NO-rainbows after losing 2 of most important ppl for them.

6. Did we seriously watched 15 seasons of a tv show with the growing idea of "family doesn't end with blood", the development of two brothers who are codependent in a toxic way and grow to see a wider world and grow their family by choice and learn to live their own lives, just to throw it all out the window and get a "forever bros, no outsider allowed" ending? Guess in the end it was the Wincest, not Destiel...

*7. Writing Cas' name on table doesn't confirm Dean's romantic feelings (as I saw ppl mention). The table stands for family, which doesn't indicate romantic love at all. It doesn't go in the way of it, but isn't a sign of it either.

We argued last episode that Dean's reaction to confession was fitting for his personality, experiences etc. What's the point of defending them if they are gonna throw obvious plot holes at us. Plot holes that can't not be noticed, and refuse to even follow the emotional continuity of characters experiences through THE SAME EPISODE?? Not even mentioning connecting it to last episode or the 15 seasons of character creation. I just mean the continuity in one, specific episode. If they didn't want to bring Cas just yet, all it took was to ask Jack if he could and him saying 'NO'. Not acknowledging the possibility at all, after what happened in the last episode was just... I'm sorry but it's as if the episode was written by someone with Alzheimer's disease... I'm shocked the actors didn't feel something was off knowing the characters for 15 seasons...

But if I do have to say, if Destiel will become canon mutually in next episode, I want all of you to know that it's always going to be considered a SPECIAL, which means that whether it's part of canon storyline is up for interpretation. So even if it will be confirmed there, it won't make it canon. More like a separate extra for Destiel fans out there and to shut LGBTQ community from making issues. And I can already tell, since main story ended, that the next episode will be more of a wannabe meta episode than actual part of the show. I expect straight up fanfiction quality bs episode making all dreams we ever had come true, just to put down the validity of Dean's love for Cas deeper into "just part of fans fantasy scenarios". I expect characters to be played over the top and out of character to bully our seriousness to the topic. I honestly didn't wanna expect anything from those episodes, but now I just really feel like we were made fun of. Like we were straight up ridiculed to our faces.

Basically what I'm saying is: they created 2 endings. One ending is for general public and the other one is an "after story" special ending for the "worse kind" of viewers. Namely "us". Finishing main storyline in episode for general public makes it possible for them to skip the "weird gay episode" without losing the ending of the show. It's like they are straight up ashamed of what Destiel is and wanna save public from it. Notice that the interviews will be aired BEFORE the 15x20 while normally interviews and goodbyes are aired AFTER the last episode.

Can someone please send me some love, because my biggest love just shattered and I feel like there is no point to anything anymore...

I guess the success of a ship and the reason a duo or a couple is shipped from the fans has to do with the chemistry the actors bring to the screen but there were a lot of cases where fanfiction writers created such a great stories for the readers to make them ship even characters who had limited interaction on the screen and that's the power of imagination, to me all the ships have chemistry

DC's Legends of Tomorrow is a new show for me i managed to watch all Seasons till 4th as i write this in almost a month , before i reached S3 where Nora makes her appearance i had seen/ read some spoilers that she and Ray would end up together, Ray Palmer is my most favourite character from lot and when i found out about this ship i was so happy because he deserves all the love and so does Nora Darhk. Nora is such a great written character her development to the show is one of the best. You can guess my reaction when i also found out that the actors who play these characters are married in real life , this ship is everything and to answer this question i have searched about this ship too many times to count but i wish there were more fan videos of DarhkAtom on the internet

Both? i think Ray Palmer with his atom suit abilities and Nora with her magic have more chances to make out alive though i wouldn't underestimate Ed's and Os's surviving skills in times of danger, they are both so clever and cunning that i am more concerned about zombies well being than the two of them 😂

Merlin and Arthur never become canon but to the fans Merlin and Arthur have feelings for each other , they hide their feelings since they know each other i wish this ship was canon on screen

14. Is 4 still together?

Killing Eve season 3 delivered this year the best finale in my opinion of all seasons , Villanelle and Eve have feelings for each other that's canon now and i hope in S4 they will live and work together as a couple

Not for the writers still not canon but the fans with me included we hope before the show ends completely the writers stop this torment and give us what Destiel fans are praying for years , our ship to become canon

deeply fascinated by the way the spn powers that be engages with destiel. the absolute official silence. the way even someone making benign jokes about it is seen as a "win". the disgust with which people see destiel shippers. like, let's go over this.

it's like, they invent a show for straight men. us soldiers like this show but your viewing slot carried over from gilmore girls so most of your fans are women. you realise people are writing incest porn and rpf and go. alright, these insane people with no social life are into our show, but at least we can milk them for money. 90% of convention goers are women and they start screaming whenever you make a joke about being friendly with your costar. you find out people think the actors are in a committed relationship and that the wives are evil beards.

your network becomes the cw and you get asked to include women and you go on internet forums and see that they're writing poetry about how much they want the women to die so that the brothers can be together. you kill them off to make these people happy also you hate women anyway. you write incest jokes into the show because you're a richard siken stannie and also want these fans to continue to spend thousands on the conventions.

then the writer's strike happens and you cast this dude as a plot device but he has such insane chemistry with your lead that you give him the plotline that the lead's og love interest was supposed to have. you then spend a decade trying to write him out of the narrative, fail (bc a lot of the audience loves him), then try to milk his moments with the lead by suggesting they're into each other.

you think the fans will act just like the previous ones and do nothing except create erotica and pour money into conventions. they start getting annoyed. you tell them that it's not gonna happen. you explicitly say the words subtext and destiel and fanfiction on screen. you tell them they're delusional and weird. you intentionally mirror them with other romantic couples, like thee cain and collette. you say the fans are sick freaks. oh your leads have done everything from being attracted to a dog to genocide btw. the entire media now sees your show as 'the one that won't quit queerbaiting'. people write essays and dissertations on the extent to which you queerbait.

in the third to last episode of your show you make clear the dude you cast as a plot device whom you clearly despise is in love with the male lead and then kills him. in the last episode you mention that he's alive now offscreen and the entire time no one has any idea how the male lead feels about all this. the show ends and your social media is flooded with 1. women and lgbtq+ people calling you homophobic and 2. men and boomers being homophobic towards you and saying that destiel ruined the show. you think you're free now, at least. these disgusting little perverts will be happy with fanfiction and you can move on to promoting your cowboy show.

the fans hate you. minor cast members who don't understand parasocial relationships start using these fans for clout without committing to it and receive backlash. all of you try to explain that destiel is icky (for reasons you won't explore) without using the word icky. @ wincestshipper13 sympathises with you and implies that the fans need to be institutionalised. you cry out of relief. finally, someone gets you. you like the tweets. you get harassed. you block people. you delete your accounts. destiel is now the source of your trauma.

WIPWCW #3

I AM WRITING THIS FOR THE SECOND TIME BECAUSE SCREW TUMBLR! BUT ANYWAY, hi guys! Back for another check-in in @wipwc-wednesday ’s game~

Weekly WC: 3000~

Less productive than last week in terms of writing new stuff, but worry not! I wrote some more for Reichenbach Falls, then some for a new installment for Take It Or Leaf It, a destiel Flower Shop AU, and the second part will be up soon!

WIP Status:

RF and TIOLI are doing great! But the best part this week is that I got back to my potterlock fanfiction, Harry Potter and the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, where we can see 3 timelines: 1997 where the Golden Trio seeks help from our Baker Street boys, and then the 80s at Hogwarts (John and Sherlock and Greg) and the 90s (Draco and Harry). I have burnt out in November regarding this fic and put it on the backburner for about 3 months, so now I am reviewing what I have written because oh God, the cringe I feel at my past self. I am polishing it up, and slowly I will replace the existing chapters with the edited ones. Seriously past me, wtf, those typos. I have gone through around 65k~ words out of 85k, so I think that’s good! The next step will be to prewrite a couple chapters ahead of time before I get to my regular posting schedule so as not to stress later. Small steps.

Chapters:

I compiled the 15 existing potterlock chapters into ones that are longer, but the chapter count reduced in half. I wasn’t happy with how short the last few updates were, so there’s that. This is another huge fic of mine, smh, yes, I am very much insane. But hey, I am happier with it now! I am currently reviewing John and Sherlock’s third year; I have about half of it done (and published as it is), so I need to write the rest and the second semester - S&J&G are sniffing out what happened to the Chamber of Secrets, heh! The plan is then to jump onto their fourth year, and this is where the drarry timeline comes in. In short, I will alternate between the 80s and 90s timelines to create parallels, and this will then come in handy in the timeline of ‘97 where they are looking for the horcruxes. Oof. So much stuff to do, but hey, I am enjoying it and that’s what matters! Gotta remember to keep my mental health in check, though.

Favourite Characters To Write This Week:

Blake Selcout - my OC from the potterlock fic. He is a student from Ilvermorny who transferred in his final year, he is in Slytherin, AND THE SLYTHERIN TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT CHAMPION! alongside Harry ofc. I think it will offer a unique perspective on Hogwarts and its issues such as the House rivalry, and later push the plot forward when it comes to redeeming the Houses and Slytherin, but I like to think it will redeem the Hogwarts mentality as a whole in the end.

Castiel - whether in RF or Take It Or Leaf It, Cas is a precious guy. I love him. In Reichenbach Falls, he offers us a new angel perspective, as we come to learn since episode 11 and forward. BABY IN A TRENCHCOAT

Favourite Snippet/Scene:

This comes from chapter titled ‘101 Things To Do At a Muggle Household’ from the potterlock crossover fic. Sherlock and Greg come over to John’s place for a sleepover during summer and they try out muggle things! Namely pizza here:

“This is delicious!” Greg said with his mouth full. He took a sip of Coca-Cola, grabbing a slice of the pineapple pizza. John’s breath caught in his chest, and Sherlock lifted his head as well from the tuna slice he stole from under John’s nose.

“Greg, you can always back out from eating that disgusting thing, you know?” John said as Sherlock gulped down his piece, shuffling to the opposite side of the table to get a slice of his own. “I only want what’s good for you, mate.”

“Promises, promises,” Greg said, sighing as though he were in love with his food. Not unlikely, Giovanni’s pizza was of heavenly quality. John averted his gaze as Greg bit into the devil’s trap. The retribution in the form of spitting and cursing didn’t occur, however.

John looked up, horrified to see that both Sherlock and Greg chewed their slices, and neither appeared to be appalled or disgusted. One small victory was Sherlock not seeming as taken by it as he had been with the tuna pizza. Greg, on the other hand, devoured the slice he had been holding and then grabbed another one.

“So… What do you think? Sherlock?” John asked, hoping to get some understanding out of this. He watched Greg annihilate half of the pizza while Sherlock spoke.

“It’s… Strange. Not as dreadful as you had made it sound, but not marvelous either. It’s acceptable,” he said, putting down the crust and dusting off his hands. He poured himself some more Coca-Cola. “Although I think that Gawain here thinks otherwise.”

Greg threw the crust he put down at him when he messed up his name, Sherlock ducking it as he grabbed a slice of pepperoni pizza.

“This stuff? It’s amazing! How can you not like it?” Greg mouthed, spitting out wet crumbs. John backed away a bit towards Sherlock.

“I’m a man of culture, that’s how,” John said, rolling his eyes as he smiled. Greg was ridiculous, and the stunt he was pulling with the pizza was making him gag, but this was his first day spent immersed in a completely muggle household – could he blame him?
