The Cast: Introducing 3 Characters
Here's some info on the three characters in the header, from left to right!
#1 — Dr. Immanuel Icarus Faust
❝ It wasn't supposed to be like this... I've failed... as both a doctor and a man of faith. I wanted to follow your teachings, dear Goddess, and guide those who seek wisdom and knowledge, as grandmother did... but I couldn't even save one innocent girl. Have I become godless? ❝
Raised by his grandmother, the High Priestess of Solbrynn's temple, Immanuel was taught from an early age on to aspire to be the best in everything he attempted to do and dedicate his life to wisdom, in order to make the Goddess Adira proud. Having become a renowned physician at the age of 28, Immanuel understands himself as his kingdom's ideal of a self-made man: a scholar who can achieve everything he puts his mind to, no matter the circumstances. As a result, he has put himself on a pedestal, believing that those who achieved less than him had all the chances and merely didn't use them. Fearing nothing more than failure and becoming anything like his absent, alcoholic father; Immanuel is bound for a rude awakening.
#2 — Morgan Miralaith
❝ While you were having your existential crisis in the mad scientist laboratory you call your bedroom, I took the liberty to read your grandmother's diary. The good news is, I finally understand where all the hubris comes from. ❝
Morgan, belonging to a long-lived species from the realm of Calliah, is the second-in-command for the Elsthess Resistance against the Plague Avatars. While the Resistance on Mhorunn regards her as a capable leader and a skilled fighter; using fire magic to blaze her way to victory; it is clear to most that she has many secrets and ulterior motives. She cares about others in her own way, yet hardly lets anyone close to her. With her mischievous demeanor and cynical nature, Morgan has made it her new mission to recruit Immanuel for the Resistance and, while at it, shatter his very distorted self-image and worldview. Upon forging a contract with her, Immanuel believes that he has sold his soul to a demon. It is only upon meeting others of her kind that he realizes that really is just her personality.
#3 — Mortis Grimm
❞ People reject that which is foreign to them. You of all people should know this. Still, my personal aspirations and origins are of no concern to you. Remember that. ❝
While there are several people from the Realm of Calliah in Elsthess, the realm that Mortis Grimm originated from is unknown. He seems to be the only one of his kind and there is something sinister about him. Wielding powerful magic that matches no other in recorded nature, Mortis, despite being the leader of the Resistance, is a big mystery to all of its members. Usually donning a Plague Doctor mask, Morgan is among the few to have seen his face. He is Mhorunn's greatest ally, but hardly a trusted one. Most understand that he could just as well become its greatest enemy one day.

Writing a Strong Premise That Checks All the Boxes
To begin, a strong story premise sets the foundation for an engaging narrative. It can be anywhere between a single sentence to a short paragraph -- I, myself, tend to write both ways and think slightly-longer premises are just fine. It depends on how to-the-point you want your premise to be for a quick summary, or if a longer one offers more context to have it make more sense. The goal is to communicate the heart of your story efficiently in simple terms without overwhelming the reader.
First, here's some examples of strong premises:
"A smart young girl, raised by uncaring parents, discovers she has magical powers which she uses to teach her tyrannical headmistress a lesson." - (Matilda, by Roald Dahl)
"A rehearsal is in progress when the actors are suddenly interrupted by six mysterious people, who demand to be put in a play. They are the characters of a story yet to be written." - (Six Characters in Search of An Author, by Luigi Pirandello)
"When world-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a mysterious symbol—seared into the chest of a murdered physicist—he discovers evidence of the unimaginable: the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati…the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth." - (Angels and Demons, by Dan Brown)
Not only is your story condensed to one sentence (or two, or three...), but it should, at the very least, be understandable enough to the potential reader, not only providing a short summary that hits the boxes we will discuss here, but also asking a main question that arises from the premise (such as: will the main character succeed in their plans, or will they fail in the longrun?). The idea of the main question is a whole new can of worms that makes me want to write a new post in of itself, so for now, let’s just get into the elements of a good premise.
Here are some points to ensure your premise is strong enough and compelling:
1. The Protagonist: Introduce the main character(s) and their primary goal or desire. Draw attention to what makes them more important and stand out from others. Keep in mind as you write: Why is this their story to tell… what makes them the prime candidate worth experiencing this story?
2. The Antagonist / Opposition: You don’t necessarily have to dive into the villain and their motivations in your premise, if you have one, but you should mention the forces, people or not, that stand in the way of the protagonist. This opposition often drives conflict and tension.
2. External Conflict: Branching off from the last step, a strong premise often includes inherent conflict and high stakes. Identify what's at stake for your protagonist, what they want, and what obstacles they face in achieving their goals. What does the protagonist have to gain or lose?
3. Internal Conflict: On the flip side of the prior step, also be sure consider the internal struggles or dilemmas the protagonist may face. This could be emotional, moral, or psychological challenges that add depth to their journeys. You could hint at potential character growth or change.
4. Exploration of Themes: A good premise hints at the themes your story will explore. Think about the underlying messages or ideas your premise conveys. Also think about the emotional impact of your premise: does it evoke curiosity, excitement, fear, or empathy?
Remember that a strong premise isn't just about a catchy or original idea, but also about how well it sets the stage for the narrative to unfold. It should capture your audience's imagination and make them eager to read your story.
Feedback can be a useful tool to determine whether or not your story’s premise is strong enough. Don’t be afraid to share your premise with others: get different perspectives to understand how your premise resonates with different readers, see if their expectations align with your own or challenge you to think outside of the box. Refine your premise through multiple iterations — expand through various plot points or characters for different outcomes. Open your mind to new possibilities until there’s one that really sticks with you.
Also remember that your premise doesn’t have to contain every element or plot device of your story — that will be apparent in the finished product. For now, take the points that are most important, especially the ones that make you most excited to share this story in the first place.

I am...a Professor
Tumblr media
I've been on a bit of a faerie kick lately, and Emily Wilde is one of my favorite human protagonists for fae books. She is objectively bad at people, but that's not unusual for academics in general. As a recovering academic, the fact that this book is about how bananas field work can go just tickled me. If you squint, there are echoes of Evy Carnahan from The Mummy in this book, and between that and the wintery vibes, this book was just a delight to read. Let's talk Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries.
Emily Wilde is a career academic whose career has been stalled by the fact that she is...straight-up bad at peopleing. Her saving grace is the solidity of her scholarship, which is why she rocks up to a rented cottage in Hrafnsvik with no grad students and no sense of how to take care of herself while in in the field. Our girl cannot split wood and doesn't so much as know how to bank a fire to stop herself from freezing to death overnight. She also accidentally manages to offend every single one of her hosts and the village headwoman, so she is in very real danger of freezing or starving to death by like chapter three.
And then Wendell Bambleby shows up on her doorstep with a pair of grad students and charm to spare.
Y'all...without giving too much away in spoiler territory, can I just say that I adore how Emily and Wendell are essentially two complimentary halves? Emily is all hardcore scholarship, the scientific method, and goal-focused to the exclusion of other people. Wendell is all flash, showmanship, people skills, and innate knowledge. They would be THE academic power couple at Cambridge...except that right from the get-go, Emily is not shy about telling us the Wendell is kind of a dumpster fire of an academic. He objectively exploits his grad students (although they do get co-authorship on papers and he doesn't sleep with them, so he's already better than most of the horror stories I was aware of in academia), he blatantly falsifies his research to basically no consequences, and he's objectively less interested in the academics than in the clout and money that comes with being a world-renowned academic.
The problem is that faeries--their chosen academic subject--aren't known for hanging around Cambridge and popping into office hours for in-depth interviews. So Emily and Wendell are both well and truly out of their comfort zones doing research in a tiny, wintery village. And for all Emily is terrible at people, she is stunningly good at faeries. Brownies, small folk, and even a changeling don't give her pause, and at no point is Emily out of her depth in terms of knowledge--even if actual magic tends to trump KNOWING that you've been magicked.
While Emily, Wendell, and the other characters are what you read this book for, the faerie lore, setting, and sheer winter vibes are phenomenal. I also loved the journal format of this book more than I thought I would. First-person journal style novels (I could maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe justify calling this an epistolary novel, but that might be stretching the genre a little, since the perspective is pretty firmly limited to Emily, with only I think two interludes from Wendell) tend to either feel like there's a lot of distance between reader and character, since the story is literally mediated through multiple meta layers of textuality, or that there isn't enough distance between character and readers. Emily being bad at people means that the book leans toward more distance, but as you get to know her, that distance closes a little, and the understated, scientific tone honestly makes some of the more objectively emotional events hit weirdly harder than they might have otherwise. I think the writing style works brilliantly with Emily as a character, and honestly the whole thing reminds me a little of Olivia Atwater's Regency Fairy Tales in tone and mood.
I am loathe to offer any plot spoilers here, because frankly this book was excellent and I strongly recommend it. It's a very, very slow burn romance with fantastic lore and Emily is a compelling character on her own merits long before she realizes what book she's in. I am absolutely psyched for Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands, and you will likely (eventually) get a review of that one from me as well. In the mean time, remember to be polite to you fae, bring gifts, and keep an eye on your mind just in case something decides to enchant you.

Meet Eris the Accursed, original character concept done by me.
Tumblr media
I got the idea for this character when I was somehow pulled back into the Sofia the First fandom after what feels like years. Writing it all down may help with getting it out of my system 😎
A TDLR of what is listed below;
Eris is essentially a sorceress who can no longer cast magic traditionally. Instead, she uses her talents to dispel outbreaks of curses that appear in various kingdoms. While she serves a valuable role, she is widely looked down upon for her unsavory work with rumors spreading around her which makes her quite infamous. Eris however, couldn't care less about the treatment unless it directly impacts her from getting jobs done.
More detailed info below~
As said in the shortened summary, Eris is a sorceress. Or was, at least. She never got to claim that title for herself as a tragic accident befell her at only five years old. After the incident, she was never able to properly use magic again, despite being initially considered gifted, and was never able to officially finish sorcery training.
This event had not only rendered Eris unable to use wands (without them breaking with even the simplest spells), but had cursed her as well. The curse in particular was dormant however. So the only penalty Eris appeared to face was not being able to use wands anymore.
Eris was born to two powerful magic users. Her mother in particular was especially beloved for putting on elaborate flashy shows with her magical talents. However, after getting pregnant with Eris, she fell incredibly ill. It was an undiagnosable illness that seemed to only worsen up until Eris was born. On the day of her birth, Eris' mother had left the world.
Due to her mother's death, Eris' relationship with her still living father had been strained from birth. He resented her as much as he missed his dead wife. It was not until he found a way to use Eris that he began to tolerate her. Seeing as how Eris was able to handle curses gave him a bright idea to use her to his benefit.
Although she was a hardworking student at a prestigious sorcery academy, Eris was an easy target for bullying and mockery. She couldn't do spells without destroying wands, and despite not using them for that fact, she was instead ridiculed by not being able to use magic at all. Even when showing great promise in alchemy and memorizing details from lessons, other students refused to socialize with her and even most teachers kept their distance. At age 10, Eris made the decision to leave the school as she thought there was no use for her to be there any longer.
From then onwards, Eris devoted her life to the research and act of dispelling curses, influenced by her father who pushed her into doing so. It leads her to a rather lonely life as she is often traveling from place to place as she takes up freelance work as one of the world's only renowned curse exorcists. Unfortunately, despite doing good deeds by getting rid of the curses, it is seen as a rather icky and immoral matter to people and ended up giving her the title "the Accursed" because people associate her with all manner of curses.
Even though others look down at her or with disgust, Eris remains indifferent about how she is treated. She does not hold back when making passive aggressive remarks about someone if they continue to pester her, most of the time these remarks will fly over their heads. Still she is not one without a heart as many would seem to believe. She has a special softness for animals even though they too, are wary of her due to the vibe she gives off.
Outside of her curse work, her hobbies include: reading fictional books, fencing and drinking rare teas.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this long ramble of a character description! Part of me feels like if this gets even the slightest bit of positive feedback, my motivation will be heightened to start up another fanfiction, featuring the character mentioned above. (Not like I already have a really good general idea of how the fanfiction would go, haha) 😅

The Astrology of Dragon Age: Origins
Alistair Theirin
Tumblr media
Rising / Ascendant: Libra
Alistair's a Libra rising, though I considered Gemini for him too. He's conventionally attractive, indecisive, and a certified lover boy. The ascendant, or rising sign, sets the tone for the entire chart by determining the houses and chart ruler – which I prefer to call a chart guide.
An ascendant in Libra means Venus as chart guide, meaning Alistair is guided or "ruled" by Venus; planet of love (typically the planets in astrology correlate with their astrological namesakes). He shirks leadership, preferring to follow, he puts effort into and cares about his appearance, and very much moons over a romanced Warden! This boy loves love! He's also rather conflict-avoidant when it comes to the people he cares about, and his relationships (or lack thereof) are very important to him.
Sun: Cancer
This is the sign commonly known as the "star sign", the only one you can determine simply by knowing the day you were born (more or less). For anyone curious, I'm currently in the process of writing up my own astrology for Thedas, and Alistair's sun in Cancer would place his birthday in Bloomingtide... though I won't get into all that now!
Cancer is the emotional leader of the zodiac. Alistair is in tune with his emotions - even if he doesn't express them perfectly all the time. He's relationship-oriented, and if I were to assign a trope to Cancer, it would be 'found family'. I think Al's always been looking for his family. He just wants to belong.
With a Libra rising, this puts his sun in the 10th house – the house of reputation, of "calling", and/or career. I've heard it said that a 10th house sun is often seen in the charts of kings. Sue Tompkins writes that it marks someone out for great success and honours, that these things often come knocking on their doors, along with fame. It's usually found in the charts of leaders. Importantly, his sun would be squaring his ascendant, which means a challenging aspect between them. The Cancer-Libra square speaks to a lack of confidence, certainty, and decisiveness. Whether or not he does end up a leader, renowned for his integrity and respected for his position and responsibility... is a block for him to overcome. Or not!
Moon: Libra
I was between this and Virgo here, but settled on Libra eventually! Libra moons often feel as though they are defined by others. They're reflective, they are what they can be, what they can provide for others. Alistair felt defined as Maric's son, defined by his mysterious connection to Eamon; the son of a starstruck maid, a thorn in Isolde's side, a templar, a Grey Warden, a bastard. It can be a lonely placement. They often struggle when it's just them, which it so often was for Alistair "scream until someone comes running" Theirin.
Being in the 1st house, he wears his heart on his sleeve, he's easy to read. Alistair haters often call him a whiny crybaby, accuse him of being too in his feelings. 1st house moons and Cancer suns get this a lot too.
Mercury: Gemini
Here, Mercury is at "home", meaning the archetypal Mercury is best suited to Gemini. Planet of learning, communication... my boy's a rambler, and I love him for it. He's also quick-witted, with a surprisingly sharp tongue. People with Mercury in Gemini are funny, they have a good sense of humour and naturally make people laugh! Mercury in Sagittarius is a similar goofball, silly, deflect-with-humour type of placement, which is why I almost chose it.
But a Gemini Mercury with a Libra rising is in the 9th house; house of higher education, of spirituality. Much of templar training is exactly that. Whether he likes it or not, he has an interest in magical items. In our world, the occult and witchcraft are often attributed to the 8th or 9th houses; in Thedas, where magic is undeniably real and deeply tied with formal learning and religion across most cultures, I feel it fits the 9th nicely.
I also think he has quite a Mercurial view on the Chantry and Andrastianism, despite (or because of) being raised with it perhaps more strongly than most, given how he was quickly shipped off to the Chantry and templarhood.
I wonder if there's some connection between that and the fact that his real mother was a mage?
Mars: Taurus
This was the trickiest sign to pin down, but I got there in the end. Mars and Venus are considered "opposites", and Taurus is another sign guided by Venus. Alistair expresses anger and resentment, yes, but more often than not it's in snide remarks and snippy comments. He doesn't really express himself well when he's annoyed with people he cares about, or if he thinks it would cause conflict with them; letting things fester instead. He doesn't stand up for himself unless he's hardened, and even then, not always. The only time he really does stand up, knowing the conflict it creates, when he finally can't take it anymore – is when the Warden recruits Loghain. Taurus as a sign is known for endurance. Mars in Taurus means a long fuse, but once its lit, that grudge is held.
Mars in Taurus also indicates a sentimentality towards possessions, and Alistair's two main gifts are his mother's amulet and Duncan's shield. Kind of interesting that he lashes out and breaks one of them, immediately regretting it.
Here, Mars is in the 8th house, a house of many attributes depending on what school of astrology you look at. Traditionally, it was known as the House of Death, as a 'dark' house. Unexpected inheritances, legacies of the deceased, crises, hidden matters... modern astrology prefers to describe it as the House of Transformation. What's a more unexpected inheritance than the throne? And even if he doesn't become king, the mere fact of who his father was was something that hung over him all his life; a secret which is revealed to the world, one way or another.
_ _ _ _ _ _
All of this is my own interpretation, of course, and there's lots of different schools of astrology – I write this as someone with an intermediate knowledge, who uses a mix of traditional and modern, and the whole signs house system.
As a little side note... I chose Sun in Cancer for Alistair independently, but since then I've seen David Gaider agree with someone who said the same! I don't often take the opinions of their writers into account when I look at character charts, but Gaider does seem to have some knowledge of astrology, so I'm happy to consider it Approved <3

Un named hellsing fic part one
Greetings mortals, hear a first taste (ahaha..) of a fic we started on…let’s us know what you think or if you’d like to see us add on! We have great ideas for the plot but we’re still pretty rusty…it’s been a while, enjoy!
……………………………..
As a kid you loved reading, both fantasy and non fiction, anything to escapes into another world outside of your own.
It didn't matter if you were learning about the infinite galaxy's light years away, historical figures of yore, or even magical worlds filled with adventurers and princesses to be rescued from the furthest roomed tucked away in the highest tower....
But your favorite was the supernatural. Nocturnal creatures who danced with shadows, beasts who transversed in the full moon or phantoms who haunted empty halls of abandoned cathedrals.
So it was no supervise you chose to study folklore, despite being the top of your graduating class. Unfortunately that wouldn't have flyed under the roof of your parents, who would be funding your time in secondary education,so you spent your college years bent over bio engendering textbooks, essays on organic chemistry and genomics only to balance them out with your secondary course of study; folklore and mythology.
Your parents, though less the thrilled about your minor courses- not seeing them as practical- just learned to drop the subject after a while....after all how can they continually bug you about it if your status on deans list never seemed to budge. Mom still would occusually fret over the extra work load distracting you from your other classes,But you insisted you knew what you were doing, and once you got you first big girl job, neither could have been prouder. It took a couple years after graduation to land it, in the mean time working as an intern in a biotech company doing mainly intern related work- but you made it.
Your hard work paid off and you were given the opportunity of a lifetime to work across the pond,..England to be exact.
Looks like those secondary courses paid off. Your academic writings on the biology of the undead & how they could help cure viruses landed on the right desk - somehow you knew your pandemic ramblings were well justified after all.
               It's been seven years since you made the long, and far, move to north London to serve as the leading specialist of the bio-science of the supernatural & undead at the renowned protectors of his majesty & London itself;
                                                                          Hellsing.
   CHAPTER ONE:
                    North France; 1:00 AM 2030
It took everything in you to control the eye twitching, brain numbing prodding being spoken before you, after all you did promise Integra you would be on your best, and certainly not sarcastic, behavior. But truth be told you knew even some promises had to be broken in order to get what you wanted...and right now what you wanted most was for the three older gentleman seated at the oval table before you to stop talking, agree to your request, so you could go back home and possibly sleep on the way there.
Ever since the pandemic of 2020 one of your main areas of study was how to possibly save lives with the use of supernatural DNA. For you it wasn't about politics, eugenics, or increasing the human lifespan- it was about saving lives, But of course in the wrong hands that could absolutely be the case. But no matter how serious the whole matter was you could almost feel your eyelids threaten to close for a second, before you had to re-explain yourself to axis powers who never seem to age out of their political standing...sometimes you wondered if you should be studying them instead of the things that go bump in the night.  You clear your voice to speak up over the men once more, who have started chatting amongst themselves while you zoned out briefly...
" sir, with all due respect, I feel like our division at Hellsing is really on to something, the only problem is...we have no one to test...most supernatural creatures- ..mainly of the the vampiric persuasion immediately turn to dust and iron when killed or exposed to direct sunlight. Our bio-science fraction have proposed a idea that I think will help us further the possibilities of pursuing test subjects "
Now that the eyes have all fallen back on you, you feel your posture stiffen and all of a sudden you understand why Integra always went around in her studious apparel-..confidence, and for a brief moment you wish you'd have waited for her availability to allow her to come with you..until you remember the type of anxiety induced headaches she can cause with her presence.
A man you knew as France's security for NATO urges you to continue, eyes sternly fixed on you, the others follow suite waiting for you to continue
" yes miss y/l/n/h please continue...surely you're not considering testing humans ...are you?"
" no sir" you clear your throat " it's a little bit more difficult, like I said it's pretty much impossible to get a sample of the undead without endangering myself or others, the samples I do have are not enough, not nearly pure enough. My prospect is this.....by now we know the catacombs all over the world - including the ones here in Paris- have had undead remains found perfectly preserved. That's no coincidence. I believe through the text we have obtained in our field of study that we could find remains that have not been destroyed to use as possible testing subjects."
You watch jaws drop over what you have considered to be the least invasive thing humans have done for the sake of "saving lives" since antiquity and can't help but to wear your smugness bluntly in the face of their surprise.
"Your wish to …transverse the catacombs?!"
" precisely "
You extend your hand, the manilla folders holding your months worth of research across the table, as you watch the prime minister's facial expression briefly resemble that of a child who just tasted a lemon for the first time.
Hours pass, in that time you have defended your credentials at least a half a dozen times, sworn to the country of France, England and the United States that you're not bat shit insane, and eventually folded to a group call back to fletchley to have your boss back you up. You really didn't want to have it come down to that, as it was your first time dealing with a conference by yourself, but hey, when your boss saved London and, essentially the world, from an undead super army of nazis, she makes a good trump card. You would just have to prepare for the verbal lashing for interrupting her own meeting when you arrived back to London.
Some hours later in north London
You felt exhausted by the time you and  the security guard who accompanied you to France returned to the Hellsing manor. No matter how fast the private jets were, it always found a way of draining you. The sun was well past the horizon by the time you got into the entrance, saying your goodnights to the security guard before starting the trek to the corner of the manor that housed your own dwellings. Briefly you consider going to your work space located in the basement, but thought against it. Knowing a certain draculina would be waiting to chastise you on your priorities. Surely she already knew of your safe arrival.
An elevator ride later to the upper floor where the personal chambers were and a long walk down a corridor before you couldn't help but to let out the longest, draining sigh as you opened the door to your quarters.
You looked down at your phone. Dead. No doubt there was probably some questionable text messages from boss lady as well as some emails that could use your attention- but after a long day of arguing your years worth of education in order to get the grant and support from a bunch of crotchety old  men, your were exhausted and decided it would be a problem for the morning,as you set it on the charger dock at your bedside table.
It was all you could do to kick off your shoes and slip off your jacket before plopping into your bed and immediately succumbing to the day's events, sleep consuming you almost immediately. Apparently a shower would have to wait as well.
You fall into such a deep slumber, the kind where it knocks the sense of time out of you, wrapping you in an unconscious blanket of blackness. With slumber falling on you so heavily you didn't so much as twitch when the sound of bullets being discharged from a pistol rang out into the night during the wee hours of the morning, alerting the residents of hellsing to an intruder.

I've been developing him as an OC for about three years now and he is my beloved boy (even though he's about twice my age lmao)
Alignment: Neutral Good? with a bit of chaos sprinkled in there maybe
Gender/Sexuality: Gay man, he/him
Astrological Signs: Leo Sun, Pisces Moon, Pisces Rising
Romancing: Astarion. Of course.
I'm thinking he would be very close with Wyll prior to the game plotline or shortly into it just based on their similar upbringings
I do not know any DnD lore and I am currently not able to get a crash course in it so if anything I say about him contradicts it, don't tell me <3
Some fun facts about him!
Oldest of three siblings, has a younger brother Hakim and younger sister Eufemia
Part of a huge family on his mother's side, the D'Oria are an ancient established family with many many family members
He doesn't get along with his mother and travels as much as possible to avoid going home and back to his duties as the oldest son, however at this point she's all but disowned him and focuses on Hakim instead
His instrument of choice is a guitar gifted to him by his favorite aunt when he was a teenager that he would protect over his own life
Trained in sword-fighting as a teenager/young adult with his uncle, a world-renowned swordsman
Makes his own clothes more often than not
Technically needs glasses especially when it comes to reading and seeing at night, but refuses to wear them
Has a very friendly disposition that most people might assume is learned from years of nobility events, but he's just genuinely kind
Is not great with any kind of magic on his own, but can be used as a channel for others' magic
However, he has almost supernatural luck, which tends to rub off on those he spends the most time with after a while
Anyway, here he is, hopefully this will soothe the tadpole for a bit until I can sit down to write fic for him and Astarion
Some more art of him under the cut!

In Defense of Traditional Wicca.
Before I get into this I want to say that this post is not to cause debate or argument. this is only to give facts and useful sources, that debunk popular myths about what Wicca is and what it is not.
Wicca is predominantly influenced by The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, which one who has read anything about ceremonial magic will see in the Wiccan ritual structure. most of what you all think you know about Gerald Gardner is from TikTok as all the talking points remain the same, and still prove to lack any real historical knowledge of the man or the religion of Wicca. Now keep in mind i am NOT an initiate in traditional Wicca, and i do NOT practice the Wiccan religion. However, I have met some very intelligent Initiates.
you may know one of them Dr. Cory Thomas Hutcheson PhD author of New World Witchery: A Trove of North American Folk Magic (Llewellyn Worldwide 2021) which is an OUTSTANDING book if you don't already have it. I have had the pleasure to sit on a presentation of Cory's at the University of Pennsylvania ( A university with global renown) another name you might know is Thorn Mooney who is currently in her PhD program. I have never had the pleasure to meet Thorn in person but have spoken with her a few times on social media. ( I would like to add that both Cory and Thorn have graduate degrees in relevant topics. Thorn's is in comparative religion focusing on modern religious movements, and Cory has his Ph.D. in folklore you can see the focus of his work on the back of New World Witchery.
Both of these highly educated people are initiates in traditional Wicca. Now Thorn writes and vlogs exclusively about trad wicca, she is an outstanding resource. She has 2 books currently out, and one she is currently writing, she also has YEARS of content on her youtube and tik tok.
so let me get to what brought me here, someone on here shared a post that said "Wiccan beliefs are not witchcraft rules. That's all. Carry on." the replies got kinda spicy. which fundamentally I agree with, we are not bound by the traditional ethics, creeds etc of traditions of which we are not a part of. However their is a lot of misconceptions about Wicca here is a short but sweet article by Thorn Mooney. that clears up a few misconceptions very briefly. https://www.llewellyn.com/journal/article/2702.
Trad Wiccans ARE in fact Witches, if you are a none initiate you know nothing of actual Wicca. Formally Wicca is a mystery tradition and therefore keeps its secrets closed to outsiders. the neo-wicca you all know and hate is an amalgam of new age thought and outer court wicca, which occurred in the 70s when the hippy movement met the Wiccan religion which was migrating to the States at the time. This is to ALL pagans, Witches, Wiccans, folk magicians, occultists etc know your history before you have an opinion. “A fool is known by his speech, and a wise man by silence.” — Pythagoras I only say this to you as someone who needed a good slice of humble pie myself at one time.
oh btw, another source for trad wicca is a YouTuber by the name of Jack Chanek. he's knowledgeable, well-spoken, and formally initiated into Trad Wicca.
so in conclusion let's be careful of where we get our information on topics related to this stuff, while it's all worth hearing it's not all correct. also, i understand that some of what i said was critical but i did not mean it maliciously, I too once thought I knew it all. we all have to be gathered in at times. i hope this can lead you to better sources to understand real Wicca.
Best Wishes.
Ps. also Thumper Forge on Tiktoc seems to know a lot about Trad Wicca and its real history

The Guestmaster
incredible artwork by @mrstarksbaby
Tumblr media
GUESTMASTER
As my excellent artist pointed out, this isn’t exactly Peter Paker/Dr. Strange so much as it is Peter Parker/Peter Parker.
You’ll see.
Dedicated to @mrstarksbaby
because he knows WHY I learned the word “Guestmaster.”
----------------------------------------------------
Was the Novice Peter too young to be promoted to Obedientiary??
Probably.
But now that Brother Stephen had been made Archemandrite by Queen Wanda, no one dared question his orders, no matter how strange.  Or sudden.
And that was why Novice Peter was now in charge of every guest monk, friar, priest or pilgrim that came to their remote monastery.
Did the Novice Peter readily agree to take on the role of Obedientiary?  Oh yes, most certainly.
Did the Novice Peter understand what the word “Obedientiary” meant?
No.  Not at all.  He only caught the “Obedient” part, and, well...
...well Peter had been hoping that title meant that he would be “obeying” Brother Strange…
...obeying him… on a more personal level…
                                Little Lord Peter
Peter’s first day at the monastery was full of so much joy and wonder, of such an overwhelming feeling of belonging.  It was a day Peter never wanted to forget.  For Peter, entering the tall gray walls of the monastery was a lot like entering heaven.
Peter was the fifth son (or sixth son, or seventh son, depending on who you asked) of a wealthy lord.  HIs world was full of amazing possibilities - of rooms full of books, of learned people willing to tutor him in any subject or language, as well as sturdy knights with amerable qualities that were equally willing to teach.
Peter was well cared for and well liked.  He took to reading and writing as a serpent took to water, with amazing speed and remarkable agility.  His father and mother were certainly happy to allow him to seek a career in the clergy.
But Peter was also remarkably agile on horseback, and could handle a lance and sword with remarkable strength and agility for a boy of his size.  Many predicted he would easily obtain knighthood and win much honor upon the battlefield.
But as Peter approached his 18th year a strange malady overtook him, sending him to his bed for days on end.
It seemed the boy was either mad or under some magical enchantment.  When he was well cleaned and well fed and well rested he would dress and rise, hale and sound, and walk to his castle window…
…only to find himself transfixed, as immobile as a statute.  There were simply too many choices before him.  Too many books to read.  Too many languages to learn.  Too many styles of script to master.  Too many handsome, rugged (and very devoted) knights to squire under.  Too many trades to master.  Too many paths to take.  All driving young Lord Peter back to bed.
His parents were scornful, at first.  He has been so sagacious, so discerning and nimble-witted as a child, how had he grown so dull so fast?  His brother’s openly mocked him.  His brain-pan had been so keen, how could he waste so much time now, lying abed day at night?
But as the months passed, his family became more concerned.  It was not natural, doctors and physics explained, for a man of his age to sleep day and night, but never be rested.
And when no cure could be found for his affliction, they took him to the monastery.  They took him to Brother Strange.
Master Doctor Strange was both a very learned man and a physician of renown.  Once a very wealthy lord himself he had renounced his wealth and joined the priesthood.  Now an Abbot, he took in no more patients, but was pressed to accept Little Lord Peter due to the sizeable donation that came with him.
The moment he set foot in the monastery, Little Lord Peter knew he was home.  Around him moved monks, friars and priests in regular, ordered lines, each with a single purpose and a simple design.  Every hour at the monastery was regulated, each with prayers to read and memorize (and Peter read very fast, and memorized even faster.)
Peter’s parents weren’t completely disinclined to let him join the clergy, (nor was the monastery disinclined to admit him, when they saw the size of the donation that accompanied him.)
But when young Lord Peter stood before Brother Steven Strange, he knew he would stay in that place for the rest of his life, whether his parents would or no.
Because of the moment Peter was led to the great books in the scriptorium.  Because of the moment when he stood in front of them and read for the tall, imposing man.  That moment.
Peter had never defied his parents before.  Could never imagine having the courage to do so.
Not until the moment he finished reading from the great tome, the moment he looked up to see Stephen Strange looking down at him.  That’s when he knew.  If he had to defy his parents, defy his entire family, even be disowned and turned out and only able to present himself at the monastery gates as a penniless beggar?  Peter no longer cared.  The look in Brother’s Strange’s eyes made Peter ready to give up everything to join this brotherhood.
It wasn’t a look of astonishment as Peter read effortlessly from the ancient text.  Peter was used to that look.  He had been getting those looks his entire life.  Brother Stephen wasn’t even impressed, not really.  Why should he be?  He was surrounded by men who could read.
No, when Peter was finished with the passage, and looked up at Stephen Strange, he saw something entirely different in that man’s eyes.
Brother Strange looked down at Peter, and that man looked hungry.

happy worldbuilding wednesday! my question for you is: what level of education do your OCs have? & does this affect the story?
Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Thank you for the Ask, @cabbojage!
My question for you is: what level of education do your OCs have? & does this affect the story?
For the sake of doing something different for this one, I will do this for my cast of MC's from The Last Wrath (my dark fantasy WIP) and Tales of Wilted Flowers (my high fantasy adventure WIP).
THE LAST WRATH:
Raelen Ashiren - Well, most of what Raelen knows was either taught to her by her older brother, Julyan Ashiren, or she somehow managed to learn by herself (likely by stealing books from libraries and archives). She has known how to read and write since she was a young child (this she was taught by their parents when they were still alive), and knows a lot about the history of their world's magic. In the years they lived in Kestrall under the protection of General Teiva, Raelen used to go to the Dragon's Spires and its libraries where she would spend a lot of her time studying - since she wasn't an official dragon rider in training, she was at least allowed to read from their vast and ancient collection of scrolls, but she still stole a lot from the Royal Archives (because some classified arcane magical knowledge was kept there).
Zephyr Tellian - Largely self-taught, even before the Fall of Eldon, Zephyr always sought knowledge by himself - something that, as a street kid, was a very hard thing to do. He taught himself how to read, and write and learned how to do basic spells in the Order of Sorcerers from Eldon, before the war destroyed the kingdom and he had to flee. When he and Jamie managed to get accepted into the Liranthian Academies after succeeding on a tournament, that's when Zephyr was able to get most of his "formal education" as a scholar and sorcerer, though he remained extremely curious and taught himself more than anyone else ever did, until he was one of the Academies' top students ever.
Darian Caelestis - Son of a powerful - and very rich - couple of rebel warriors from Ergyre, Darian had access to the best tutors his parents could find (that would accept to teach a rebel without spying on them of course), and also was so naturally curious that he taught himself a lot of things too, especially about alchemy. He had a complete formal education, from astronomy, to arts, to history, to arcane knowledge, and to maths. In the past, after meeting Tanwin Lyrandeth, Darian learned many things about alchemical magic from his young elven friend too. Out of the main cast Darian perhaps had the best formal education.
Princess Ellinor Dallantes: Being royalty and raised by the leader of the continent's most dangerous and powerful Guild of Assassins, she was very influential. She received a professional education from only the most renowned tutors and rebel scholars in the world and was also largely taught by her adoptive father, Evren (the leader of the Guild), who was incredibly intelligent and knew almost anything about everything. Her education is so profound that it has made her one of the cleverest people on the continent, and she is proficient in almost any subject or matter, as a proper queen should be. On top of that, she received complete combat training during her years in the Guild, becoming one of the deadliest assassins around with almost any weapon one can think of.
Julyan Ashiren - Before their parents died, Julyan was a noble from the most ancient mageborn house alive. This means not only did he have full access to their mansion's library growing up, but also he had some of the best tutors (plus his parents were geniuses). But when their parents died and they were forced to flee from home with no money, protection, or anything, Julyan had to become a parent not only to his little sister, Raelen, but also to their adoptive brother, Azra, and so, despite being incredibly clever and capable, Julyan did not have the resources to seek a professional/formal education as a scholar when he actually became a teen/young adult (because it was a matter of having money to survive/buy food, so he had to work as a weapon's smith, which was one of the few jobs that hired mageborn teens like him)
TALES OF WILTED FLOWERS:
For now, it only has two "MCs" (like main POV characters), even though it has other protagonists
Lorelai Wildwood: Honestly Lorelai had a weird education. Since her father was considered "a traitor" by the kingdom, she got to learn the "other side of the story" that the history books failed to mention, plus, he taught many different things, from astronomy to archery, to alchemy and spell history. (Due to his "traitor" status, none of the city's academies or tutors would accept to train and teach her). Think the "Enola Holmes" kind of education, but factor in the fact that our Lorelai lives in a medieval world with magic. She was also fascinated by the historical tales of the bygone heroes of the past, which inspired her to dream of one day becoming one too, despite the world telling her that she could not because she was a commoner of "tainted blood."
Xarian Argyris: Xarian was highly intellectual and read almost every book the town's library and archives had to offer, as well as being taught alchemy, magic, and healing by his mother figure/aunt. Being a fairy, he learned things quickly and had a strong imagination, as well as being naturally talented when it comes to spellcasting. Xarian was mostly self-taught, even when it comes to complex subjects and difficult magic. When he was 17 he left home to attend a prestigious alchemy academy/medieval university, where he strived to become a magical physician, but there he trusted the wrong person, who majorly derailed his "up-til-then-normal" life.

I want to recommend a story I just finished reading. Specifically I want to highlight its worldbuilding (as this blog more d&d focused), but the whole damn thing is great! Ilhen's Seventh Deathtrap (link below) is a masterpiece of modern sword and sorcery, and while it’s big strength is it’s characters, the glimpses of the wider world are tantalizing.
It has fairly classic sword and sorcery magic, which if you’re not familiar- basically magic has some cost, which can be fatal. Magic is also rare, highly valued, but the cost dissuades most people. This is a stark difference from traditional D&D wizardry, or Vancian magic (from Jack Vance’s Dying Earth series), but can help us as world designers to give additional magic to NPCs. Ilhen's Seventh Deathtrap has a lot of different disciplines, some of which we see and are familiar, like illusion magic or divination, and some that we don’t see like glaciomancy and lithomancy. Magic itself is gained from going to a spire and talking to a god (I’m summarizing a bunch but it gets discussed in depth in the novel. RAFO). This magic is strong but specialized- which is perfect for an enemy or npc.
It gives us as worldbuilders a connection from “angry ice mage, wants to kill party” to a spire where this magic is taught. We can go from a generic npc wizard to where they were taught, why they only cast x or y element spells, and why the party’s wizard (or other magic user) can or cannot learn this method of casting. It also helps us give a unique “class” that players can’t access but could have exotic spells that they can learn. To continue with the example of the angry ice mage- maybe they’re a high challenge enemy but we lack good spells that really fit “ice mage”. Well a high level glaciomancer would be able to control ice, or summon a glacier, or speak a word of power and freeze their foes. While we don’t have spells written out, we can adapt the classic spells from d&d and either reflavor them or adjust their power. Power Word Stun, an 8th level enchantment could become Power Word Freeze, a 7th level spell that does pretty much the same thing but freezes them for 1d4 rounds (or something, I’m not trying to balance a spell that will only be used by enemies, I am trying to run combat not write a book).
Additionally most spires are known, but there are some hidden ones that may be protected by death traps, or dungeons as we would call them. While I’m not going to go as in depth about dungeons as I went about magic, I will say that Ilhen's Seventh Deathtrap is about dungeons and has a good explanation of why people build dungeons, and how they go about it. It’s not the first book to feature the idea of dungeon makers, but it does talk about what kinds of death traps are made and has a bunch of examples of puzzles that you can steal.
Anyway to sum up this post- you should read Ilhen's Seventh Deathtrap. It’s FREE, about 260 pages long, has good worldbuilding, and amazing characters.
Also it’s not a litRPG which is nice cause a ton of modern fantasy (that I find at least) is plagued by numbers and stats.

Hey, how's it going? Been reading your blog a lot again recently, always a pick me up! Great comfort stuff! Wanted to ask you if you had any favorite moments of Bughead in terms of working together on a project and or for the paper (blue and gold, if I remember correctly!) Also (since I'm a HUGE Sabrina fan) if there were any cool bughead moments that featured Sabrina! Hope you're having a great time and thanks for being one of the best blogs around!
Tumblr media
One of my favorite instances of Bughead working together is in a story called Review Askew where they helped Pop Tate figure out why renowned food critic Eaton Grubb claimed that Segarini's Pizza is the home of the best burgers in Riverdale. Professional food critic or not, Jughead Jones is probably the authority when it comes to Riverdale burgers, right? I loved that story because it showed us Bughead flexing their sleuthing and acting skills just to help uncover the truth. There’s also panel there where Jughead basically admitted that he thinks Betty is “pretty” so that’s also a bonus hahaha! Other great stories that involved Bughead teaming up to save Pop Tate include Smoothing Things Over (where they developed a new line of smoothies for the chock'lit shoppe's summer menu) and Bread and Batter (where they fought a pair of hoodlums using a pair of burgerinos).
Tumblr media
Another one of my favorites is The Mark of Jughead, where Betty helped clear Jughead's name during a bake-off after he was accused of marking the cake entries with his initial. How did Betty do it? By simply pointing out that Jughead writes the letter J with a crossbar. Yep. Betty Cooper saved Jughead Jones by letting everyone know just how familiar she is with his handwriting. I also liked the story Lt. Jugumbo where Jughead went full-on detective and volunteered - VOLUNTEERED!!! - to help Betty discover who has been stealing the Cooper family’s milk supply. Detective Bughead is so much fun to read!
Tumblr media
In terms of Blue and Gold stories, the one that stood out to me the most is probably The Punk, where Betty asked Jughead to go undercover so he could write a comprehensive piece about the punk movement. I loved it so much because it showed not only how far they're both willing to go in the name of honest journalism, but also how much trust they have for each other. Other memorable stories include To Play or Not to Play where Jughead wrote a musical to help give Betty an additional source of articles for the Blue and Gold, The Easy Way Out where amateur sports writer Jughead said "This is the sport I should've covered in the first place!" upon seeing Betty at football practice, and Surprise! where Betty pretended that she was writing an article on fast food restaurants just so she could keep Jughead busy while the rest of the gang attempted to break the record for the world's largest burrito.
Tumblr media
As for Sabrina, well, most Bughead stories with Sabrina in them are found in the Little Archie comics. Some of my favorites are Words of a Witch where Little Sabrina gave Little Betty a magical charm bracelet that attracts a special boy (Little Jughead) and Make A Wish where Little Betty practically begged Little Sabrina to use her magic to save Little Jughead from starvation. Of course, I can't leave out Double Trouble from the recently-released Archie Meets Riverdale comic where Comic!Sabrina suspected Riverdale!Betty and Comic!Jughead of being romantically-involved.
Tumblr media
I hope that covers it. Let me know if I've forgotten to answer anything. Thank you so much for supporting the blog! It’s nice to know that sharing cute moments of Betty and Jughead from the comics can have a positive effect on other people. I really hope you’re doing well. Stay safe and healthy! ♥

Aurora Headcanons ~
((YOU WANNA KNOW ABOUT THIS BLONDE BABE??? look no further but know she's not some seductive smooth talker all the time --))
~ Aurora LOVES waking up early. Meeting the sun, watching the sunrise, whatever you call it, she loves doing that snuggled up in a blanket and coffee in hand to start her day.
~ AURORA LOVES PLANTS. I thought this was obvious, but she's always trying to grow and buy more plants. Herbs, flowers, ivy, fruit, etc. she's sO INTO AND IT'S A SIGN SHE'S ATTRACTED TO YOU IF SHE TALKS ABOUT HER PLANTS TO YOU. They mean a lot and she's gauging your interest subtly. Is she expecting you to love her plants as much as she does?? Absolutely not, but a little interest and memory doesn't hurt.
**DESPITE THIS, she can not keep succulents alive. Ever. SHE'S TRIED SO MANY TIMES ((rip Casey the Cactus I~VII and various others she'll never admit to)). They just don't thrive with her even though she can take care of some of the most particular/meticulous plants to care for and they'll thrive. ~ Suits??? Three piece? Well fitted? Hell, bowtie or normal tie?? FUCK AURORA'S SO ATTRACTED TO THAT SHIT NO MATTER THE GENDER. A well tailored, good looking suit and a good looking person is a vain pleasure of Aurora's.
~ You like movies??? GOOD. SHE LOVES THEM. but she will talk. THE ENTIRE TIME. ALSO if you haven't read the books she'll make you read them first. "SO YOU GET IT. YOU GOTTA GET IT." Also hope you like bad sci-fi, supernatural or 80s movies because she'll make you watch it.
~ She STRUGGLES with technology besides basics so if you're asking her to take notes/remember something, she will physically write it down. She has sticky notes, calendars, and sometimes even separate notebooks for certain people she's with a lot so she "doesn't forget anything important!"
~ Based on her past and family, she's used to being an "black sheep" or being viewed as "just the pretty one". Because of this, she's very insecure about her looks -- of course she's pretty/attractive, she's been told that her entire life and most of the time, it's all she'll ever amount to. She developed her magic a lot later and can feel like she's late to so many things and can't really adapt to normal life in the "nonmagic world" or the "magic world".
~ Speaking on this, her mother is renowned in the magic world as a powerful sorceress, her father is a high standing member of the Fae Court and her siblings are super remarkable in their own rights. When Aurora was born, she never showed any innate ability, just a ordinary child despite her family's lineage. She was constantly compared in all aspects, though one she did stand out in: her looks. So she would constantly change/alter her appearance to be the prettiest in whoever's approval she wanted most. Nowadays she's better about this, but honestly she craves being called pretty/beautiful as herself -- oh bUT IF YOU COMPLIMENT HER IN OTHER ASPECTS??? bitch she's yours put a ring on it sign the papers no returns.
~In modern/nonmagic verse if needed, Aurora's mother is a well known socalite and dad is a foreign country prime minister's son. Her siblings all get known for SEPARATE things outside of their parents, while Aurora is documented as the "picture perfect/gorgeous" child of the two world-known figures. Because of this, Aurora just assumes her looks are all she's good for and just switches it up for others/to make sure she's loved by whoever's most important to her or who's attention she wants. **Basically, tell her you love her as she is as she might malfunction/not know what to do with herself.**
[okay BYE she's really cute and just super horny which is aokay lmao y'all should interact with her out of smut sometime lol]

Morkantis, the Prime World, pt 2
I've decided that for the remainder of the posts specifically about Morkantis, I'll be adding the world map to allow for easier reference while reading (it also helps me while writing the post, honestly). In this section, we're gonna get a little deeper with the humanoid species of the Realm - specifically humans and where abouts they're planted on the map.
Tumblr media
Kanticaan, Humans of the Prime
Humanity is one of the staples of any setting, giving the reader an easy route into immersion within the world they're exploring. On Morkantis, the human nationality is signified by a syllable of their homeland and the suffix "-icaan". This tradition has become slightly muddled by the rise of the melting pot empire, Cascaudia, but stands true elsewhere.
Vodicaan; a rowdy people of the Ernvod confiur forests, the vodicaan clans are probably the proudest people throughout all of Morkantis. Despite a reputation for drinking and brawling, they are generally quite introspective and have spent generations shaping their faith in the Divines into a unique, totemic enchanting system.
Vasicaan; a people more or less lost to time and conflict, the humans of Kervaas have been all but erased by the vampiric curse that was set upon their homeland. What small populace of vasicaans that remain can barely remember the former glory of their homeland; instead fleeing with memories of the cruel, dark oligarchy left in the wake of the curse.
Linacaan; a people famous for their monastic studies on how the elements and pantheons shape the day to day realities of mortals, the linacaan people are often generalized as studious and wise despite a population that varies just as much as any other. Second only to their melding of martial arts and magics, the people of Dirlin are renowned for nutritious and delicious cuisine whilst their artisan goods are highly sought after.
Sulicaan; holding a long-standing belief that they were the first of the human societies to take root on Morkantis, the people of Sulveil have formed a close bond with the Wilderkin that share the desert with them. Out of necessity, the sulicaan people have learned to pull the most from their desert landscape to trade away for creature comforts with the rest of the world.
Cascaudian; with most tracing their heritage to either vasicaan or vodicaan refugees, the Cascaudian humans have grown to hold a severe pride in their flourishing new motherland - often casting aside their original roots. This group of humans is often considered adaptive and cunning, with a combination of their own traditional teachings and those of the other humanoids that call Cascaudia home.
