I saw the resurgence of the movie Goncharov (1973) and thought I remembered the name from somewhere, turns out my grandpa was a huge fan! I was digging around and found some old posters from the original theatrical release. (Looking back they were really obvious with the Katya/Sophia)

I was explaining Goncharov to my dad and he theorized that martin Scorsese himself decided to start this whole thing from a fake account so that he could steal our ideas and produce the film. And honestly i hope he's right because it's the only way this whole story could be even funnier

listen maybe I’m reading to much into it but towards the start of the film when goncharov and katya are having their argument where they’re both still refusing to be anything but pleasant with each other despite both knowing that their marriage is falling apart, goncharov pours her a glass of red wine and she leaves it untouched

and then the next time we see andrey after the interrogation he’s drinking a glass of red wine

about the fucking symbolism of that

no y’all don’t GET it. the fact that in every fucking scene when they talk goncharov stands to the left of andrey. that he stays out of the line of sight of his good eye. that in this way he uses the eye patch more than andrey uses it himself. it’s about the fear of being seen it’s about the developed behaviour of being hyper aware of your surroundings when you feel like you’ve been walking on eggshells your entire life it’s about subconsciously taking advantage of someone’s weakness it’s about unreliable narrators and limited pov but MOST IMPORTANTLY it’s about the fact that when andrey looks FORWARD into what lies ahead goncharov is never part of the picture because he chooses to stay out of frame out of his field of vision

if historians find out about the Goncharov stuff, will they believe its real and something that was genuinely lost to time? or will there be evidence of it being fake?

okay but what REALLY gets me about goncharov (1973) is the scene where andrey and goncharov are sitting on the roof of the factory and goncharov is just going on and on and on about like. the mob and shit and andrey just. puts his hand on goncharov's chin????? like... just tilts it up????

and he's like "why don't you just be quiet for a little while, eh? you've got the whole night."
