Happy one year to the QSMP!!!!

There’s a lot going on with the server right now that is being sorted out, but I just want to share my appreciation for every part of this project.

This server means so much to me. I used to watch DSMP and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but as anything does, it ended. It was already dwindling out but I think the thing that really did it was technoblade passing. And I’m gonna be honest I’m still not over that. I watched him more than any other creator, he means so much to me. The time in between his death and the start of the qsmp was especially sad. I was just missing a lot. Him, the server he played on, that community, etc.

I wanted to engage with the content from the people that he played with, but it was hard. Every update about him, such as technodad streaming, dream making the song about him, was a lot emotionally.

Also not to mention I was sooo hyperfixating on both him and the dream smp as a whole. So it left a big void in my life. I wanted to be wholeheartedly invested in something again.

Around the beginning of 2023, I started watching old Quackity vods and that became my new comfort thing. Just the silly ones where he was watching soap operas and stuff.

Then not so long after I had started doing that, he announced the QSMP. I cannot describe to you my excitement. That week or so before it started I was just so excited. And before that lmaoooo I was not thriving. School was crazy busy, I cut my own bangs and it looked terrible, and that pretty much exemplifies where I was at.

I remember switching to slimecicle’s perspective at some point during the first stream and I followed him, fit, roier, and Mariana as they went mining and were very silly. I smiled the whole time. And then, I watched more the next day, and the next day.

I had forgotten what it felt like to be a part of something that was actively taking place. It had been a while since that was how the dream smp was. I would go weeks or months without any updates, and I would just be by myself reading fanfics.

It felt really fucking good to be able to enjoy something new. Not to replace what I had before, but to start a new adventure. That’s what it feels like to me.

There was a lot to keep up with at first and luckily I had social media to sum things up for me.

Fast forward and the Brazilian members join, then the French. Each time I was a little hesitant to accept them with open arms into my mind palace but it wasn’t very long until I couldn’t imagine the server without them.

And from day 1 I was so impressed with the planning and story of the server, forcing people to stay interested. That’s something the dream smp didn’t have. I honestly don’t think I would need any of the events to have a good time, but oh my god do they make it so fun.

And the animatics???? Hello?????? I love it so much.

Now I’ve learned to accept any new members immediately. Korean members join? TIME TO DRAW THEM!

Quackity started this project with a clear vision. It is so clearly a huge passion project for him. I don’t doubt for a second that it will keep going no matter what happens.

This server has exposed me to so many creators I would never have even heard of and that’s the point. I only speak English. Without this server, I would not know half of my current silly little blorbos.

I can’t believe how creative and funny Roier is. I think about Cellbit Bagi’s lore all the time. I find myself saying “I am the best!” After Etoiles. I’ve tried to absorb as much of the fuga impossivel lore as I can. I adore Baghera’s chaos. Even some of the English speaking people I didn’t really watch that much, like jaiden, fit, even slimecicle, who I now watch probably more than anyone else.

The other day, I watched the stream of cellbit and roier playing hospital 666. In Spanish!! I don’t speak Spanish!!! I only understood about half of what they’re saying and I’m sure that half is because of QSMP. That’s incredible. This is something so much bigger than any one of us.

QSMP has given me so many people to start watching and drawing/writing/thinking about. It has given me hours upon hours of laughing and smiling. It has given me a new hyperfixation to occupy my thoughts before bed.

It means so much to me. Ever since it started, I’ve been so much happier. I could never have imagined something like this would come around. Honestly, there is not anything like this. It is the first of its kind, hopefully not the last 👀

A year went by fast. And I’m so glad to have been here since the beginning. But even then, new people join this community all the time. That’s so cool. This server has in just a year added so many more content creators, and by extension, fans. It’s insane.

And I am so, so excited for what the future will bring us 😊

In light of the dsmp member allegations, I have some thoughts:

1) Whatever feelings you may have at this time, believe victims firstly. I know it can be hard when there’s so much coming out at once, but the only way we make things better for victims is by believing them and taking this all seriously. It’s unfortunate to hear these things about people you supported, but I do think power corrupts, and the way to combat that is accountability. These victims deserve peace and closure.

2) Personally, I rescind any and all support I ever gave to dsmp members. For the sake of transparency, the only members I’ve still been watching are Tommy, and I occasionally engage with Ranboo’s social media. Neither of them have done anything wrong, as far as we know, and no allegations have been made about them. However, this is not a public endorsement of them and if any such allegations are made about them, rest assured that I will stop watching them as well.

3) I have, for a long while now, been inactive on Twitter and have no plans of reengaging with it. I think the management overall there has rendered it unusable for anything other than unethical paid promos and ai bots. My mental health has improved immensely since distancing myself from it, even though I was never that active to begin with. I’m leaving my account up for the sake of friends I have made and content I want preserved, but this may change. As of now, my primary contact points outside of Twitch are gonna be here (Tumblr) and my Discord, only. Yes, it slows down what news I have access to, but I still encourage others to do the same.

This will likely be the last thing I say about dsmp. I have old posts on here about it that I don’t see the point in deleting because it was important to me at the time and good outlet. But, I wanted to make a statement explaining my current stance so there’s no misunderstanding. What it was was good, but it’s been long gone for a while now. I no longer have any desire to align myself with that community and these creators.

So there’s another one of those cool Hermitcraft trivia posts circulating again which I kinda wanna reblog but also I’m feeling a little bit hesitant because some of the points seem maybe a little bit inaccurate or exaggerated? Like I’d like to fact check them first at least.

(Particularly what stuck out to me was the point about season two only happening because Joe did a coup, because that’s not how I understood that story the way Joe and Xisuma have told it? Or at least as far as I can remember... the impression I had was that Xisuma was mainly the person who took the initiative to keep the server going but Joe was one who broke the gridlock on whether or not they should add new members by just straight up inviting Cleo without asking the others.)

(So maybe a more accurate way to phrase it is that without Xisuma season 2 wouldn’t have happened, but without Joe, season 2 might not have had any new members. And at this point the only still currently active Hermits who were already on the server were X, Hypno and Joe, so the lineup could have turned out very differently, if the server had even survived past season 2.)

(I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure this is how I remember hearing it?)

But what actually annoyed me was this comment from someone (not OP, to be clear) in the notes:

(Don’t go looking for this please, and don’t harass this person, I’m just highlighting this because it’s an example of an attitude you see a lot. It’s not just this specific person who I don’t know at all and whose url I already forgot.)

I don’t wanna start counting diversity points on each server like it’s a fucking game, but I DO wanna point out that the “white guy“ comment is pretty rich coming from a Hermitcraft fan.

Both servers have a white guy problem.

But at least with Dream SMP I can actually think of more than one creator who isn’t white, and it didn’t take them until season 2 to add a second female member...

(I know Hermitcraft is more of a private and closed group and they have extremely strict qualifications they demand from new members, plus every current member has veto power, so it’s much harder to add new Hermits than it is to add new DSMP members where it’s all decided by One Guy, but I think some frustration about this is still justified due to how big Hermitcraft is in the MCYT community.)

It’s also extremely annoying when apparently there was a whole thing where Hermit fans were insisting that Quackity is white during the sexyman polls?? Presumably just to excuse their shitty behaviour??? idek. (And I also heard on the other hand that there were some straight up racist comments made about Quackity as well. He literally cannot win, apparently.)

What is this weird attitude towards new creators?? Yes, it’s cool that Hermitcraft has been around for over a decade and that the Hermits have all these cool histories in the community and even influenced the development of the game itself, but you can celebrate that without needing to put down new people, ffs.

I know it’s annoying when the new guys suddenly get more popular than your guys, but it happens, it’s the circle of YouTube. Please chill out. No need to be a hipster about it.

Besides, even if we don’t count people like Vikkstar who admittedly didn’t play on DSMP all that much, there were still people on the server who had long histories in the MCYT community:

Phil has been making Minecraft videos at least since 2012, when he started his first Hardcore Series, and holds the record for the longest running hardcore world to date. There’s a splash text in Minecraft referencing him (”Ph1lzA had a good run!”)

Techno started his channel in 2013 and was part of the Hypixel player council (or was it called the Elite Team back then? Not sure) since he was like 14 or 15, helping with testing and game design on many of the iconic Hypixel games before the server became the biggest Minecraft server in the world. He too has a splash text in the game (”Technoblade never dies!”)

BadBoyHalo has his own PVP server called MunchyMC which was launched in 2015 and before that he was part of the staff on a different PVP server.

Also while more recent, a whole bunch of DSMP members were also on SMP Live and SMP Earth back in 2019. In fact 2019 was when a lot of the DSMP members originally got their initial boost into popularity.

Honestly the only DSMP members who fit the description of “new white guy who popped up in 2021“ are like... probably Foolish and BoomerNA??

I think you probably meant 2020 anyway, because that’s when Dream, George, Sapnap, Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo became popular. I assume so anyway because those are usually the white guys people actually seem to be talking about when they talk about DSMP white guys. (Obligatory note that Ranboo is in fact nonbinary though.)

tl;dr:

You can just hype up the Hermits and just not say anything about DSMP. That’s an option. Especially if you clearly don’t know that much about DSMP.

I think this the first time I think I've met a fantastic of any fandom whatsoever just straight up just reduced the creators to being "just some famous people." And not anything else.

I just want to say, because you're probably already gotten hate for saying this,but I really do appreciate your work and love that you stay unapologetic in your statements you make on your blog! Keep up the good work!

ive just never. been into. idolizing people? i never had a band phase, i barely dipped into dan and phil bc i found them actually funny as a dumb middle schooler, and supermega is like the only other entertainment group of ppl i currently watch for their comedy. but even then im not super interested in knowing every little detail about them. once again, im simply apathetic. which isnt a bad thing?

i care about them as much as youd care about any stranger. i respect their writing for the earlier seasons and i see them as artists in that regard, but i seriously dont get why its such a crime to just. only enjoy the story? again, its not like i harbor ill will for the people. i actually do find wilbur and tommy pretty endearing but i recognize thats me projecting lol. but is it really so horrible to just like.... only enjoy one part of their content? i genuinely wanna know if thats bad. i never used to get so much backlash for that.

PLEASE READ BEFORE REQUESTING!

I’m 19, almost 20, and my blog is currently safe for minors, but I don’t remember everything I write, so if you come across something I’ve written that you believe crosses that line, please tell me what it is and I will review it, and change things accordingly.

My blog will always be friendly for minors, but I may have things not safe for them, which I will tag accordingly and put the tag here so they know what tag to block.

I’m an age regressor, and part of the CGLRE community, which is a SFW space. Age regression is NOT ageplay, age regression is a coping mechanism formed to deal with stress and trauma, and from what I’ve heard, is more commonly found in people who didn’t have much of a childhood. However, kink can also be used to cope, not saying it can’t.

An age regressor does not need to be undergoing a traumatic experience/reliving their trauma or be stressed in order to regress, they can regress from being overwhelmed or simply because they feel like it.

Age regression is a coping mechanism in which the affected individual mentally regresses to a child, and may enjoy child-oriented activities and foods/drinks.

I have many diagnoses, including ADHD, depression, anxiety, DI, osteoporosis, scoliosis (Edit: the scoliosis is gone :D), POTS (a subset of dysautonomia (POTS is a nervous system disorder, I believe?)), and others. So don’t be surprised when/if I reblog or post things about these, as it’s important to spread awareness and I enjoy educating others, especially when it’s about things like this (my family and I had never even heard of POTS before I was diagnosed).

I am part of many fandoms, including HP, LOTR/Hobbit, Chronicles Of Narnia, Sally Face, Creepypasta, Slenderverse, DSMP, Undertale/Deltarune (and the AUs), Fran Bow, HTF, BATIM, Sanders Sides, FNaF, as well as the Markiplier and Jacksepticeye communities. And of course, TWF, Harmony and Horror, etc.

Please don’t come around bringing negativity about any of these onto my blog. Many of these are genuinely a huge part of my life and my coping mechanisms, so please, just don’t.

My general opinion when it comes to things like HP’s creator, is that we’ve lost too many fandoms to bigots, so why not fight back and make their own work repulsive to them? HP is a prime example. Trans fanfics, art, etc is a great way to enjoy the fandom and actively spit in the face of it’s creator at the same time.

Update to the above! In discovery of blogthegreatrouge’s actions, I do NOT support her or what she has done. I still greatly enjoy NAJ, VV, and PJ’s Daycare, and I will still write for them if requested, but I will be attempting to develop them (basically just stick to what’s already there that isn’t problematic from what I can see and strengthen it + add on to it) and stop associating them with her.

I have to add, that other one, Jammy Wolf or something like that? Never really cared to learn the name, it never stuck right with me. It was boring, confusing, had no plot, and I just didn’t understand why it was made. Looking back, I recognize a lot of the red flags in it. But at that time, I didn’t think to even consider that things like that might be present. It was an UnderTale AU comic, after all.

To be clear, I have also never seen that one comic for NAJ and never intend to. I’ve always seen the relationship those two have in that AU as something tentative. If that makes sense. (Another confusing thing about NAJ, Goth? The only one I remember is Librarian Goth, but I remember hearing somewhere that there was another one? What?)

Addition! In terms of Linkverse AUs, I only deal with LU and LU AUs. Sorry, but it’s a personal preference, and I can’t keep up with all of those Links.

I’m somewhat aware of the stuff going on in the self ship community, but I don’t want any of that brought onto my blog! I will reblog stuff from both sides! Don’t harass anyone using my reblogs! Don’t harass anyone in general, but I especially don’t need to see that!

Anyway, I’m Arthur, I’m 19, and I go by She/Her pronouns, but am also experimenting with They/Them. I currently identify as a bi cisgender female, which may change down the road. (Edit: Currently identify as girlflux!)

i ordinarily do not make “discourse” posts or anything related to dream on here at all since i stopped posting dsmp but i feel the need to express my disgust with him and the defence he’s getting. having spent the last couple of days talking to many former dream fans who now feel even more unsafe in the community because of all of this, i can’t in good conscience not speak out for my friends. (note: this is not actually discourse, hence the quotation marks. this is a discussion of racism and other issues.)

you are allowed to criticise content creators. yes, don’t be an idiot who spends all their time looking for things to get mad about, or post mindless hate at all really because that’s lame, but it should not be a “natural consequence” to expect harassment for disliking a creator. that is an incredibly incredibly dangerous and irresponsible narrative to be spreading, especially for someone who is the current most popular minecraft youtuber whose fandom has a reputation both in and out of mcyt circles for being notably toxic.

doxxing is a big deal. it is natural to be afraid of it, and realistically, you should worry about it if it happens to you, no matter your follower count. even if nobody physically shows up at your house, that doesn’t eliminate other dangers: the most glaring example i can think of is a closeted person being outed by somebody finding their parents’ social media. again, this is downright irresponsible for someone like dream to be saying, especially in the wake of the person he replied to going private out of fears of doxxing because of their precarious and unsafe living situation.

having an “edgy” past is not something you get to pat yourself on the back for growing out of and then forget about forever; that is the bare minimum, especially when you have an audience of many poc who already do not feel that the community is inclusive, because antiblackness and other forms of bigotry run rampant in it. they now feel even more unsafe knowing that the face of the mcyt community downplayed his racist and islamophobic jokes as being a depressed teenager. i am a person who believes in personal growth and change, as both a technoblade fan and somebody who made antisemitic jokes as a young teen. but the first step of growing as a person is to admit what you did wrong using the real terminology for it and not trying to make it seem less bad than it was, or that it was okay at the time. it wasn’t okay. if you’re not able to condemn your own past actions as being racist, and feel the need to justify or downplay them in any sort of way, you have a lot of personal growth left to achieve.

#i will not be saying anything more but these are my thoughts. wanted to get them written down #i specify t/chno simply because if not people trying to detract from my point will say ‘ok why do you watch him then’#there is a difference here and it’s not a preexisting dislike for drm #my disgust comes from the atrocious way he is handling it in the present day. his actions are not speaking louder than his words rn #i keep adding stuff to the tags but anyway i saw it i understand that he was trying to comfort people #i saw the clip*#but not only did he word it horribly it’s just an incredibly privileged mindset to begin with #there is a reason we use fake names there is a reason we keep our locations secret etc #to say not to worry about it is counterintuitive to any internet safety lesson #it is not his position to try and comfort victims of doxxing especially not given the context of this statement being made #his fans are the reason that person is living in fear rn #and not once did he express any true sympathy beyond saying that the odds of anything happening are astronomically small

okay anyway this isn’t gonna be a long thought out post i just want to share where i stand vis a vis dream and the whole m situation

1) i have read dreams twitlonger and i think he addressed what he needed to address. it’s not up to him to redeem manatreed or apologise for his actions or clear his name.

2) that being said i think that fans need to stop acting as if dreams tweet cleared up the manatreed situation. it didn’t. it was about dreams actions and dreams actions only. it’s up to manatreed to deliver any sort of confirmation on whether or not the case is real whilst being respectful of the wishes of the victim

3) this doesn’t mean i’m okay with how dream responded to the situation; yes his response was an emotional reaction and he was scared for his family that’s completely understandable with his past experiences but the spontaneous sapnap lore stream when everyone wanted to know what was going on felt like damage control or a distraction. it was a poor decision given the circumstances . you can be both sympathetic for dream and his experiences but also critical of the way the situation is handled.

4) i’m not going to completely stop posting about dream and dsmp content bc it’s something i enjoy but it won’t be as frequent for the moment bc i still feel a little weird about how the situation was handled and how creators i enjoy played a part in that.

5) as for dteam fan art day, i’m not sure where to go from here with a lot of artists purging their accounts or leaving the community and while i do want to be able to to a day to celebrate us a community some people are saying the fanart day might be a little distasteful with the current situation

anywya be critical of the content you consume but if you decide you don’t want to be the community anymore or that you don’t have trust in dream at this point that’s okay, but don’t attack or berate people who want to continue watching his content

This blog is not being updated, and it never will be.

Due to the impermanence of the internet as a whole, I am of the opinion that this is a collection of pieces of fandom history, and that history is worth saving. It is not important history in my eyes, and is likely extremely unimportant in the eyes of others, but it is history nonetheless.

I do not wish to condone the actions of certain content creators. Their reprehensible actions have poisoned the well. But they did not build the contents of this blog; the community did.

The Covid Lockdowns were an extremely lonely time for me. I'd gone fully remote for my remaining classes, and lost an in-person connection with friends and loved ones I saw every day at school. I needed something to do to, and the frenzy of the DSMP fandom swept me off my feet. I'm certain that many people found themselves in similar situations. This was what we turned to, in that horrible time. This is a small piece of what we built. Even in the midst of a pandemic, it made me a little less lonely.

We did not know that people we'd trusted to entertain and inspire us did horrible things. We loved and created and shared with our whole hearts, and while heartbreak was always inevitable, I think that love amounts to something worthwhile.

Maybe there will be a day when enjoying this fandom will no longer be such a hot-button issue, when we can fully avoid giving Wilbur Soot or Dream (or any other streamer who has since done unforgivable things) any benefit from our fun. When we can say "death to the author" and have it mean something. But that day is not today, nor do I think it will be within the next decade. This blog may have to wait a long time, before I can stand to look at it again.

But until then, until this site dies and maybe even after, I will keep these posts, a record of a labor of love.

oh you dont know the floodgates you just opened

a few things:

1. despite not liking the creators of the dsmp anymore, I don't actually hate most of them. [the ones that are particularly unsavory fall outside of this of course] so all that I'm saying i truly mean in a critical sense towards the story, its also just all purely my opinion as someone who enjoys fictional and fantasy stories and who like criticizing works to see what it does well and what it doesn't do well

2. for clarification I'm going to use the c![name] to indicate when I'm talking about the characters. Don't get me wrong, I think its annoying too but its the only way I'm gonna be able to write this thing without getting something across the wrong way yknow?

3. I stopped watching the streams after November 16th, [save for one Techno one but I closed out after a particularly bad story beat lol] and so all information coming afterward is all second hand from either me seeing people on twt talk abt it or people dming me. All i really know is up to dream's imprisonment and some stuff past that.

4. This is mostly aimed towards the "main" story, so stuff abt the badlands, eggpire, and whatnot are briefly mentioned.

anyways uh, i'll try to be brief but also include enough information to get why i feel the way i do on some stuff across

A. Performances Alright obviously these people are all streamers, so obviously they might not be the best actors, and hell no one is even asking that of them. However, when you're telling a story that's based on the audio with the visuals kinda coming to a second, it's gotta be pretty strong. I will say, some of the best actors in my opinion are Wilbur, Tommy, and Tubbo. I would include Ranboo but I never watched any of his story bits or story streams so I can't say much. Wilbur and Tommy are excellent in selling their character's emotions and feelings, when I watch the stream I don't feel like I'm watching an rp but an actual thought-out story yknow? And one of my favorite Tubbo examples was in the Hog Hunt video whenever Techno attacked him, he sounded genuinely afraid and I believed everything his character was feeling.

However, unfortunately, not everyone is gonna be that good. And I'm gonna say it; Dream and Techno have to be the worst out of the entire cast. I understand Techno's whole character is this monotoned badass, however, when really emotional moments hit I feel like he never lets that fall, and a lot of intense moments just ring hollow. And I'm sorry but Dream's attempts at being intimidating leave me laughing whenever I watch them. It feels like he watched that one scene from The Marriage with Adam Driver and Scarlett Johannson and said "Oh this is what good acting looks like! Just yelling." His whole "I don't give a FUCK about Spirit!" speech isn't as great as people keep making it out to be. And whenever he tries to act coy when being a villain it feels like a guy reading the script for the first time, a bit like he's trying too hard. I have more problems with his character but his portrayal certainly doesn't help.

Everyone else is fine, and I don't feel strongly either way about a lot of them.

B. The "Lore" Okay first off, I can't be the only one who thinks it's silly that people are calling the dsmp's story "lore" when it's not, it's the fucking story. Lore indicates backstory to either the world or the characters, which a lot of the streams don't really pertain to. This is a really petty section but god it's a weird pet peeve of mine.

Other than the misusage of "lore" vs "story", the actual lore and world-building of the world are so lackluster that new elements can be introduced whenever and it often feels cluttered or not well thought out at all. And here's the thing, I feel like if the writers sat down just for a few minutes to establish world rules and general history, a lot of this could be solved! but so much is made up on the spot that it starts to feel like they're grabbing at straws to keep people invested, trying to reach that next high and intense story beat without actually earning it.

C. The Egg / Eggpire This is a pretty minor note since I was only invested in the Egg storyline for a little bit, but god it's so underused that it's almost embarrassing. Bad has provided this super interesting antagonistic force that's infecting the SMP, can control people, and who one of our main character is immune to, and it's just never used or even talked about again? Now I understand if he wanted to keep it to a side storyline only, however, to introduce this borderline eldritch creature and force within the world and then never have it dealt with is so weird.

D. The Writing Oh boy this is. kinda a big one. Now I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty obvious I have a bias for the Wilbur writing over the current team [that consisting of Dream, Quackity, and Tommy mostly]. I don't this his writing is perfect by any means, the characters constantly bringing up traitors got obnoxious after a while, and writing Hamilton but in Minecraft really isn't the modern Shakespeare or anything. However, I think his exploration of characters and plot progression was a lot more thought out and well planned, like he actually had two brain cells behind the story yknow? The current team I think fails to be as emotional or even impactful, things happened too fast and my god was everything drowned in angst for so long.

Don't get me wrong, you gotta have your characters face hardships to make them reach their goal believable, but some of the shit they put the characters through just felt like too much. From c!Tubbo's constant comparison to c!Schlatt [who btw, fucking ordered his death and kept him from his friends in a nation he felt trapped in] and on a side note, i kinda really fucking dislike the "c!Schlatt dad!!" au's or the au's where c!Tubbo inherits some of Schlatt's features, it would be like c!Tommy getting a c!Dream mask after his exile, it's feels so weird yet people eat that shit up for some reason.

But god, did c!Tommy get the brunt of it all and in retrospect after his final death, it kinda feels really fucking gross. Now obviously, I'm not trusting any of these people to write decent mental health representation, but c!Tommy's PTSD and how it was explored was just degrading. [Specifically the scene in that one Techno stream where he saw the final control room from the first war, and had a flashback / panic attack where he started calling out for c!Dream. I understand this is an actual thing people with PTSD will experience, but it felt so fucking stereotypical it got on my nerves. I actually had to close out of the stream because it made me feel sick, fiction shouldn't leave you feeling that way.] And don't get me started on how they basically reused the formula from the previous arc. [Problem introduced -> Tensions rise as things start to fall apart -> Big confrontation -> Exile -> Return from Exile -> Blowing up L'Manberg, again.]

And speaking of characters-

E. Character Arcs, or the lack of them In my genuine opinion, some of these characters' arcs are so disappointing. Especially c!Tommy's. I'm not one to believe that he was a "selfish" character or anything, however, his goals were simply set on his discs and maybe c!Tubbo, he didn't have much outside that. However, L'Manberg gave him something to care about, he gave up his discs for it and he fought for it tooth and nail, I think it taught him to open up to others and trust more. It was a great character arc for him to have, seeing him still fight even after his first exile alongside c!Wilbur, to return safely to the nation that he and his found family had built.

But then his second exile happened, and I feel like all of that was undone.

c!Tommy's exile genuinely pisses me off for so many reasons. It's not that characters can't have their low points after reaching a major change or feeling like they've "completed" their arcs or anything, but it's more of the fact that it seems like he's never going to heal that feels like a spit in the face, especially to people who might have had setbacks like that before. Progress isn't linear, sometimes things happen and you get knocked back down, it can take a while to get back up, but I don't think c!Tommy's character is ever going to be allowed to get back up. From c!Dream, who pretty much was a constant abuser in his life, killing him then reviving him, and his still fractured relationship with c!Tubbo, which by the way I have a had time believing they would still be friends after all that happened, it feels like he can never get a win and it's generally kinda a shit way to treat your characters who have been abused. Of course, not all abused characters are going to get happy endings, I'm not trying to dictate that they all should, but c!Tommy deserves one and the fact that it's so obscure feels shitty.

Side note: we still don't have a canon reason to give a shit abt the discs. Like I'm sorry but without some sorta connection to the MacGuffin why should we give a shit about him getting them other than "he wants them lol". Like hell, I would even accept the classic "they were the last gifts from his parents" or something, but we still don't have a reason.

c!Tubbo also lacks a fulfilling arc as well, from someone who started out as a yes man, he has progressed a bit into having his own interests first, but besides that sometimes his character makes me so. depressed. He's easily one of the most pushed around and hated characters within the story, all for being a kid who didn't know what to do and he's in the same vein as c!Tommy; these kids can't get a break. Also, his anti-violence beliefs morphing into the "lets kill c!Techno lol!" bit was so out of place and without proper build-up it was like. what. And now he's building nukes?? god c!Tubbo makes me so sad because he's kicked around constantly and never given a chance to grow.

Another small note, I also don't really enjoy c!Techno at all. Besides the previously stated reasons of lack of emotions when they're really needed, I find his character to be weirdly pretentious. He talks as if he's constantly been betrayed and hurt but I personally, don't see it? Like, I think one of the main examples was the Pogtopia vs. Manberg war, yknow he wanted to end the government but they just reinstated it after they won = c!Techno upset. But this doesn't make sense to me because why did he think otherwise? The entire time c!Tommy had talked about taking back their nation and starting again, so the fact that c!Techno suddenly thought there would be a sudden change is, to put it bluntly, kinda fucking stupid. I don't want to say that he "plays the victim" or anything because that feels a bit harsh, but his character feels so far up his own ass that I can't enjoy him.

I have a major grip with c!Dream as well, but that's getting it's own fucking section.

F. L'Manberg This is a quick note before we get into the, forgive me for this, endgame, of this entire rant, since the next two sections are tied together. But god, L'Manberg makes me upset because it feels like they gave up on it.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that it is supposed to be c!Wilbur's "unfinished symphony", the thing that destroyed a once charismatic and widely loved man, his attempt at power that utterly ruined him. But the fact that it just got blown up in the end after everything and left to rot felt like such a waste of time. From the first war, to Pogtopia, to even c!Tommy's exile, it all felt fucking worthless in the end, and the story is actively closer to how it was when it started now more than ever. I wished it was actually allowed to exist and continue to be a peaceful place in what is a chaotic world, but no it was just snuffed out because why dedicate to this concept of finding others you can band together with and feel safe. fuck that noise apparently?

G. The Villains Now villain-wise, I'm only talking about c!Dream [during the first war], c!Schlatt, and c!Wilbur. And believe it or not, this is actually mostly positive.

Now I'm not gonna lie, c!Dream as a staring antagonist wasn't bad actually, he posed a genuine and threatening opposition to L'Manberg, even if we didn't know his real intentions or motivations as to why he was against it. He's lucky in this sense because he didn't have to be good, he had to be passable. If anything, he felt more like an anti-hero than a tyrant or traditional villain, and my god do I wish he kept this theme going forward.

Now quick disclaimer, I don't like JSchlatt as much as the next guy, he's an adult man who should know better than to joke about some sensitive topics and act the way that he does. But the one thing I'll ever give him is that damn, was he a good actor for his character.

Now here's the thing, c!Schlatt wasn't particularly deep at all. He had no real motivations behind his exile of c!Wilbur and c!Tommy other than getting competition out of the way, had no reason to act the way that he did and yknow? that's fine. The reason why he worked was from his performance alone, he was actually intimidating. When he came onto the stream and was doing his typical bad guy stuff, it was actually intense to see what he would do. Whenever he would almost catch c!Tommy back in Manberg, whenever he would begin to pressure c!Tubbo, it put you on the edge of your seat and it felt like everything would change at the drop of a pen. He's a villain to be a villain, and this works out because he's just charismatic and well put together enough to make it interesting, even without the backstory or motives.

c!Wilbur however, is much more tragic, and the best villain of the story. He essentially was the "mentor turned evil" trope and it felt terrible watching him descend into madness, unable to trust barely anyone except for c!Techno and c!Tommy. Hell, in the end I think he still cared about them both, despite losing everything. Sure, he blew up L'Manberg, but there was still a smidge of the old c!Wilbur in there made everything he did feel melancholic. His death at the hands of his father after achieving his final wish was chilling, and something I still think about.

Until yknow, Ghostbur came back way too soon to let people feel his loss as a character within that world. And then he got revived, pretty much-undoing everything that moment meant for his character lol.

And then there's the worst one:

H. Dream. I'm going to be completely honest, c!Dream is one of the main reasons why I dislike the current dsmp stuff so much. Outside of his actions as a person, the way Dream decided to write his character as this overpowered madman of the dsmp really just. destroyed any intrigue that he could've had. Perhaps this is from my growing dislike towards him, manifesting into a bias towards his character, but god I cannot fathom why people try to insist he's interesting when he has as much depth as a fucking puddle.

And here's the thing, I'm not even entirely against c!Dream being a villain, hell I think he would've been great as an anti-hero if anything. Make him sympathetic but not through c!George to get your precious "DNF" points or anything, but show him actually caring about the people within the dsmp, including c!Tommy and c!Tubbo. This would make his rival status with them just a bit more complicated, sure they're enemies, however, he doesn't want to hurt or kill them, and there's still a level of friendship there that keeps them bonded when things get super bad. This could've been super interesting to see, the first villain of the story receiving a sorta redemption arc then descending into madness as he started to fixate on being a god. This is all how I feel personally, but god do I feel like it would've been better than his current character, and hell would've worked with how he was during the Pogtopia arc, before the war that is. I'm not trying to tell Dream how to write his own character, but there are so many other ways he could've done the madman seeking to become god rather then. whatever the hell we got.

Because instead, we got this power-mad asshole who does things... because he can? And that's one of my major issues: he tries to surround his character in mystery to make him "intriguing" but it's kinda like c!Techno, it comes off as pretentious. Not only that, but you cannot keep waving around this mystery of a backstory without ever actually revealing it. I know the story isn't over, but c!Dream is effectively at his lowest point, now would be the time to reveal his backstory. But no just keep it in the dark and keep everyone guessing, that's totally fun and not at all tiring and annoying. (sarcasm, if anyone needs it)

And back to his performance, he doesn't sell this aloof, cynical and strategic warrior that has perfected the blade or some shit, he comes off as some angry guy yelling on reddit. which i don't need to tell you, isn't intimidating. It feels like he's trying to have c!Schlatt's intimidation combined with c!Wilbur's depth, but instead he's like a little brother who's trying to hard to mimic his older brother and is kinda embarrassing himself.

but other then that i dont feel too strongly abt the dsmp lol

but seriously, these are the main complaints I have abt the story tbh, I could probably talk about more but I wont because man. this is probably gonna get me in trouble if any of the hyper-dsmp fans actually read it.

A really long overanlysis of minecraft servers.

This will be my only warning, this shit is really long.

I promised this to @ivi-prism 2 weeks ago (hi, i am Svetla) but university said no and then i feel my notes were incomplete so i have to do more research.

So let's talk about anarchism and capitalism. As a future political scientist, really bugs me how the fandom and some content creators (im looking at you techno) misinterpret both theories.

Yeah this will be a overanalysis about the political, social and economic system of two minecraft servers. Why? Cause i like analysis things like this and finally i can solved what is the system of hermitcraft and thats make me happy.

Things to consider:

First im not native english speaker and im lazy so im not often write or talk in english so my typos can make Doc really proud.

Second i don't watch Dsmp i only know things about the server by the animatics, the constant information wich pop up here on tumblr, the crossover fanfics and the tiny vods that youtube insist play when i have activate automatic reproduction.

Third i tried to simplified this much as i can because this analysis i maded talking with my friends (also political scientists) and a former professor, so it got quite technical while i was writing it.

And finally don't take this seriously, I'm not trying to insult anyone, I only started this because the hermitfandom started saying that hermitcraft was capitalist and then everyone started comparing the Dsmp with hermitcraft saying anarchism vs capitalism, that's why the dsmp entered into this analysis.

Guys, seriously chaos isn't anarchism and "sucefully economic" isn't capitalism, even paid with "money" (diamonds in this case) isnt necessary capitalism.

First, mini glossary:

I understand a server like a Society/State (country) with Mr Weber definition. In really vague words a State is anyone that has a territory and has legal control of violence (the laws, no the abuse of authority).

I understand the private property as the hermits bases and/or shops (i suppose only base in dsmp? Idk)

I understand the mass production as the farms and resources.

Capitalism is a economic, politic and social theory, wich it considers private property essential and tends to monopolize the resources 'cause this it also considered private property.

Anarchy means "without government" it has its origin in the Ancient Greece. And Anarchism theory is just a society free from any political authority, but respecting the liberties of the others.

A Failed State is which one lose control of the legal violence, and can't provide the peace, essential human rights and the basics for a normal lifestyle to its people.

I think thats all the bored shit (i hope so). Now the interesting shit.

Why hermitcraft isnt capitalist?

Short answer, their idea of private property is not the same as capitalism has.

Long answer, even if they have their own stuff, they had a really strong sense of community and dont really care if someone take things from them.

We can see this in the beginning of season when Iskall take some mini blocks from Etho and he didn't really care (yeah, iskall "paid" him, but later i will explain this) or the multiple times Grian "borrow" things from Iskall and Mumbo in season 6 or Scar in season 7, the team ZIT constantly take things from each other and i can go on and on with examples, but the point here is this couldn't happen if they had a capitalist society because this would break the "private" part of private property and mass production.

Basically their friendship made so strong their sense of community that they are basically inmune to capitalism, Uncle Marx would be proud of them (not really, but would be funny). So they are communist? Nope, communist don't believe in private property and the hermits does.

But you just said-? I said they dont has the SAME idea of private property as capitalism does. They still have their bases, farms and shops, but for them their private property isnt sacred like in a capitalism system would be.

They're respect each other things because they appreciated the effort and values the time the person puts on their buildings and not only because doesn't belongs to them (and obviously cause theyre frends, but shush, this is a overanalysis, the obvious things doesn't have place here) i mean even for the shenanigans they are really polite and try to cause the least damage possible not because is not of them but because they valued the person.

Basically the famous honor code of hermitcraft.

What about the economic system and the shopping district?

Lets talk about the elephant in the room.

If Hermitcraft isnt a capitalist system, why they have a economic system based in diamonds?

Well, despite the exchange based in money for resources or services is a principal characteristic of capitalism, it isnt exclusive of that theory.

The money is a social consensus, cause barter has becomes obsolete and gold isnt cheap or infinite to use as payment. And basically, this is why we use money on this days (if you want to know the history of money ask to your trusted historian or Wikipedia).

What does this remind us? Yep, diamonds and iou's are a consensus too. When the 1.16 came out some hermits tried to change to netherite as payment and didn't suit, so they ignored it and continued with their current payment system.

And as much as Mr Smith likes to say that this is how the free market (and his stupid invisible hand) works, capitalism needs the monopoly of resources and people who works to pay for those resources.

But in Hermitcraft nobody really controlled the resources, anyone can go and collect their materials or made a farm. They just decided don't do it and go and buy it, because they save the time to go and collect for themselves, in other words they paid for the time.

Various hermits say they saved so much time go and buy the materials instead to collect themself or trade with the villagers (cause theyre the worst and all of us know it) thats why the barge and lookie lookie at my bookie are so profitable.

The shopping district it wasn't a thing before season 4, i dont really sure how it worked before, because i started watch in season six and sadly i have a boring adult life to saw the old seasons, but i assume it works in the same way that the trades the hermits does between them to accord a discount or a collab, and speak directly with the interested hermit or directly take it and pays what's considered it was fair, like iskall did with etho.

Like i said all what's happen in hermitcraft is a consensus, even the shopping district.

So yeah, that isnt a thing that would happen in a capitalism system, probably you would be dead, because "how are you dare to entered to my property", or in the jail, "because thats not yours".

So, what is hermitcraft?

For the surprise from much of you, Hermitcraft has an anarchist system.

What?! But their server is so peaceful, they don't steal from each other, they doesn't griefing, hows that possible?!

Well, the anarchism isn't really a violent political theory, at least in its beginning, actually anarchism is one of the most peaceful theories i studied, thats why i dont really thing it will worked in our society, but work in a server of 24 friends. Its too idealist.

I don't really study all of the thoughts corrents of anarchism because they are a lot. But the one we are interested is one of original thought corrent, The Mutualism, this in contrast with their cousin Communism doesn't believes the private property was something bad and considered like one of the rights from the individual, but different as capitalism because like i said before it wasn't sacred and communal things will exist to help others to start or recover.

Proudhon, one of it intellectuals, considered not paid for the work of the other it was a form to violate their liberties and feel horrofied with Marx when he said we have to abolish the private property.

The mutualists believes that each person should possess a means of production, either individually or collectively, and the products obtained would be trade in the market for the amount equivalent of their work.

This sound familiar, isnt it? Hermitcraft works in this way.

The thing with anarchism is they don't believes in a government over the people. And the hermits doesn't have one, yeah there's Scar being the mayor, but he isnt have a power over the rest and only is in charge of the "cowmercial district" even aquatown isn't part of his jurisdiction, his function is more of organization, like when we put a friend in charge to organizing part of a roadtrip.

It's the same with Xisuma figure, we all put him in a position of the admin of hermitcraft, but the truth is he isnt the only one with admin commands (but apparently some or all of them losed their admin status, at least in one of the last tango's streams, he hasnt it anymore) and various hermits said that he is more like an ambassador of them in the legal things of the server.

The hermits take all of they decisions in group and in the majority of things all of them needs to be agreed with the decision or they simple doesn't do it. And this is a characteristic of the mutualism because for them anyone are over the other.

And if you aren't already bored at this point and you put attention to what i wrote of the concept of private property in the mutualism, you would see it is practically the way hermitcraft works. They make their bases and farms, recolect resources and sell what they don't will use, buy mostly to save time and paid for the price what they considered fair. Yeah i know sometimes they do some farm specifically for one shop, but this is more "yeah, this is my thing" (Tango and Iron; Ren and wood) or a division of activities "if you do that, i do this".

The perfect utopia.

What about the Dsmp?

So what about the Dsmp, i entered here because i want to read of them and the only thing i read was about hermitcraft.

Well, the Dsmp only entered in the equation because much of you said they were an anarchist server, but i see it more like a "failed state" and when i was talked with an exprofessor he agreed with me.

I know the term of failed state is controversial and is almost obsolete, but is the best way to describe the server and stop said it is anarchist.

So why failed state and not an anarchist state? Because they have a government (or apparently multiples) a failed one, but is there, if it were an anarchist server wouldn't have one.

Usually the failed states are known for being violent and volatile places in which ones their governments can't provides the basics to their people to live, normally are places with ethnics conflicts, civil wars, authoritarian governments or states in wars. The most common examples are Haití, Somalia or Syria.

And i am sure you can see the similarities with the Dsmp, so yeah, theyre chaotic but not anarchist.

The wars ruined the stability from the server, have a multiple sides and a megalomaniac for admin, but the goverment still there and they are fighting for the power wich wouldn't happen if the server were anarchist because anarchism don't believe the power should be possess for someone.

The server simply is failed state wich struggles under a violent fight for power.

hi! I think your stance on build mart is very valid! I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about how to improve games so that everyone enjoys it.

however, I do have to say, as someone who spends my entire life on the MCC reddit, most of the time it's the fans that get a bit overly toxic and exaggerate how many people dislike build mart. someone did a stats post where they analyzed the reactions of MCC participant toward build mart for the past few MCCs and it was about 40% disliked it and 60% were either neutral or enjoyed it. but it's really easy for people who watch creators who don't like build mart to say that the majority of people don't like it. shubble said on Twitter that there's been build mart discussion in the MCC discord and most people don't have strong feelings, and of course not everyone will talk about it publicly, but I would still argue that most people are pretty neutral, and they like it depending if their team is good at it.

this is a long way to say that criticism of games is valid, but so many ppl, and unfortunately a lot of dsmp fans, are overly toxic. Quig made a statement about death threats and Scott and Noxcrew are getting so much harassment about being biased towards Dream for not getting rid of build mart, or saying things like build mart will never be removed because Scott is good at it. and then of course, this type of behavior reflects badly on Dream, even if it's not his fault that people are toxic.

yes i absolutely agree there's a massive issue with toxicity in the fandom. and people will make things seem a lot worse than they are, like how you said it's give or take 40% of participants who say they dislike it, which is less than half. and i also know that not as many people hate buildmart in the same way dream or sapnap do for example haha, but my issue is that they do dislike it THAT much. and it isn't just them who do, there's a good handful of people who just genuinely feel awful about it, and that's what bothers me.

my problem doesn't lie with a majority disliking a game, my problem is with there being a number of people, even if it's an insignificant number, who feel so discouraged about the game that it genuinely takes away all joy that they may be feeling in the moment, or it drops the mood and morale of the team as a whole. even dream himself said that if build mart isn't rotated out or changed up for the next mcc, he probably won't participate, and i just think that's a massive issue with a game - that's not just dream disliking a game. that's someone genuinely not wanting to play a game that badly that he'd rather sit out a whole tournament, despite previously telling us that it makes him feel like a kid at christmas. that's why i think the current build mart is an issue :(

obviously anyone who isn't great at building isn't going to love the game, but i feel like every game should basically have a chance for someone to enjoy it in some form. and this opinion stands for every single game!!! there's pvp games that other people really dislike because they're better at building/problem solving/etc, and i think a lot of games could be revamped in some form to give everyone a fair shot of enjoying themselves! 😁 i hope that makes sense hehe

people who send death threats to anyone at all don't even deserve to have their opinion considered or listened to, so i just ignore those people. because i know if they think it's acceptable to do that - it means there is absolutely not a single thing they can say that will hold any form of intelligence. the fact that anyone does it, and especially over a minecraft tournament - a FREE minecraft tournament - is mind boggling. i don't think that's an issue with toxic mcyt stans though - that's an issue with genuinely immature and rather brainless individuals who think a death threat is ever acceptable, and i believe they would do it to anyone, in any setting. it happens in every single fandom, over the smallest and most insignificant things. it's just a goddamn shame it happens so much in this one. 😞

Okay. So dsmp lore is looking like it’s a long way off. And in its absence, I’m seeing more and more lore discourse every day. And I’m gonna be real, I’m seeing the signs and I think it’s possibly time for everybody to start considering the next phase in the natural progression of any fandom, which is:

Phase 2: After canon

See, where we currently are, everyone cares very VERY much about adhering to the facts that canon has given us, and it’s for good reason. By sticking exactly to the facts, you have a better chance at solving mysteries or finding clues, and can do a better job of analyzing the author/creator’s intent with their story and characters. It’s a phase of fandom that works best while new canon is still being released, and it’s a fun place to be! Mostly. It can also be where some of the biggest arguments and “fandom wars” happen because people care very much about being right. Typically, this phase tends to come to its natural halt once canon is permanently finished and you more or less have all the facts that canon is going to give you. Whether all the questions are answered or not, it’s over, so you are analyzing the same content over and over.

Phase 2 is about learning to take the facts that canon gave, and seeing new potential. It’s certainly twisting the facts, but the facts don’t necessarily matter so much anymore, because the canon they were building up is already finished. This phase generally gives a lot more freedom for people to play around with the world and characters and even story. Because the things that officially happened are settled, now fandom can shift a bit more into “what if?” What if your fave were to have that conflict you always wanted them to have? What if you just completely upend the timeline of events? What if you could give better development and character explanation in your own new canon? Could you potentially do your own entire canon rewrite? What if none of canon happened but all the characters stayed the same; how would you change canon then? This is a phase that is generally a bit more relaxing to be a part of. Usually you see a lot less drama, a significant reduction in fandom wars, and also a fairly smaller number of fans (usually since a good amount jumped ship after the fandom wars). Most importantly, this phase can sustain a fandom WAY beyond the end of canon, potentially even years longer than the canon even lasted.

As someone whose seen this happen to a good few fandoms now, small and big ones, I’d say that even though the lore isn’t strictly over, we’re definitely starting on the process to phase 2. Hard leaning on the tail end of phase one for sure, especially with all of the rewatching I’m seeing people do. My prediction is eventually we’re going to hit a bit of a dead period where people eventually get fed up with trying to get answers from material they’ve already analyzed to hell and back, once it’s clear we’re getting no more canon. But if we’re lucky, after that dead period, and if the conditions are right, I think this fandom has some potential to have some absolutely stunning phase 2 content

Now, this isn’t to say strictly that dsmp lore is over. I don’t know for sure that it is, they could pull something together soon potentially and work towards a proper ending, it is possible. But even if that does happen, I’d say that the ball is already starting to roll. I have to say though that dsmp is definitely a unique case for fandom because of its absolutely completely inconsistent update schedule, and the sheer number of people here. We have no idea if we are ever getting an ending. We have no way to be certain of a guaranteed ending, and even if we are promised one by the creators, we have no way of being sure that that promise will be fulfilled. So in the absence of all the answers, I think it’ll probably be a bit of a stuttery mess towards phase 2, at least until we can all agree that canon is finished. Normally I think that would just kill a fandom, but there are genuinely so many people in this fandom that I’m actually fairly sure we can make it. There is a strong collection of analytical minds behind a lot of the content that fans are putting out here, that care a lot about the canon and would be unsatisfied seeing it end this way, and I doubt all of us are going to just give up on that conviction once lore is over.

The point:

What I’m mainly trying to get at here is that, even if lore were to end right now, where we are in the story today, or whenever the server officially dies/ends, that in no way means that this fandom has to end as well. In fact there is just a whole new stage of fandom life awaiting us on the other side, and it’s actually something I am patiently looking forward to, rather than dreading. If the server dies, that will not be the end of us and this community. There is still a promising future for us, even in the loss of what we all originally came here for. Yknow, in every ending there is a new beginning and all that. We’ll be okay if this is potentially where lore stops for good. I fully believe that. We can work towards that.

Dear DSMP fans (specifically my worriers),

c!Tommy’s not going to die, nor is cc!Tommy quitting the SMP.

The absolute uproar I’ve seen because cc!Tommy was acting sus in today’s stream is absolutely insane.

I understand the worry over his character dying, or that he’s going to quit the SMP, but it’s unlikely that either will happen.

Take a breath, it’s going to be okay. I promise.

First, about cc!Tommy.

“Tommy’s more focused on YouTube, and this could be him attempting to exit the SMP and quit streaming.”

Yes, Tommy’s been more focused on YouTube, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to quit streaming. He’s testing out new content on YouTube to see if his fan base will enjoy non-SMP related videos. This is a common procedure YouTubers do to see what content works and what doesn’t. Right now, streaming is where he gets a good portion of his YouTube videos, and he won’t just stop streaming without any notice. He says he’s really enjoying YouTube at the minute, and while he is streaming less, he still likes to stream!

As for quitting the SMP, if you pay attention to other cc’s perspectives, you’ll know that they have plans that involve Tommy’s character. Jack Manifold has been working on a scheme to kill Tommy with Niki’s help, and there are way too many loose ends to tie up before that happens.

Hypothetically, if he did quit playing on the SMP—which he’s not, take a breath—he’s going to be in DSMP S2, so it wouldn’t be long until we see him playing with everyone again.

My next point is that, career wise, it wouldn’t make sense for him to completely quit playing on the SMP. The SMP allows him to collaborate with a multitude of creators, and as such, the SMP is the primary reason for his huge influx in success. While he may take a step back, I don’t think he’ll fully leave.

Lastly, Tommy has said many times that he really enjoys playing on the server and hopes it never ends. He’s been playing on the server nearly everyday offline—he said so himself.

He’s not losing interest in the server, he just wants to explore new things.

Now, for c!Tommy.

I have the utmost faith that Tommy’s character is not going to die tomorrow.

Narratively, it doesn’t make any sense for several reasons:

Dream.

Dream has made clear that his story with Tommy is not over and won’t be for a very long time.

“I don’t think our story will ever be over, Tommy. I think that, you’re just too fun.”

Dream plans on keeping Tommy alive, for a very long time, to torment. As he says, Tommy is just too fun to leave be. He’s his primary source of entertainment, and I don’t think Dream will ever willingly leave Tommy in peace—and that includes allowing him to die.

“It’s not your time to die yet, Tommy.”

“It’s never my time to die.”

“That’s true.”

Dream has way too many plans for Tommy to simply kill him off. What’s the point of the discs if the person who cares about them is dead?

Niki and Jack Manifold.

If Tommy were to die, it would—from a meta perspective—throw off Jack and Niki’s plans.

Jack’s plan is riding on Tommy making it past tomorrow. In two weeks time, Jack and Niki plan on luring Tommy to a nuclear test sight to “accidentally” kill him. There’s no way to do that unless Tommy makes it out alive tomorrow.

Their revenge arc would feel pointless if Tommy were to die tomorrow, and it would leave their characters in limbo. Niki and Jack’s characters currently ride on Tommy’s existence, and they have no further motivation past him.

Wilbur.

Wilbur is currently experiencing a resurrection arc. If Tommy were to die and become a ghost, it would completely overshadow Wilbur’s arc.

Wilbur’s arc is moving pretty slow at the moment, and if Tommy were to interrupt it by dying, it would quickly overtake Wilbur’s story.

Technoblade.

Tommy, while briefly reunited with Technoblade, has not resolved his conflict with said man.

It would feel out of place for Tommy to die without fully resolving that tension. Their dispute would take the back-burner, and it would cheapen their issues.

Overall.

It would be messy. Tommy’s death would make the entire story feel never-ending, with loss after loss after loss. It’s not good storytelling, and it would ruin too many threads throughout the narrative.

The heroes need to have losses and victories, and a permadeath is much too heavy of a loss after just losing L’Manburg. That’s why it’s more likely that Tommy’s ends up in prison than canonically permadying.

The prison, while said to be the equivalent of losing all three canon lives to whoever’s put there, inspires action.

It’s not a coincidence that Tubbo has nuclear weapons, and we have no way of knowing how those nuclear weapons stack up against the prison. There will eventually be a need to test that power.

While it’s possible Tommy and Tubbo may win their fight tomorrow, it’s not very likely, as Tommy would dub it “the end” of his story.

“Once I get back the discs, it’ll be finished, the melody will be over.”

And we all know Dream’s not going to let that happen any time soon.

Tommy’s story is not over, and it won’t be for a very long time.

I thought about making a separate tumblr for my current minecraft/dream smp hyperfixation, but then I remembered that I have shamelessly pumped superwholock/X-men/literally-any-obsession-I’ve-ever-had-regardless-of-time-spent-obsessing onto this blog since fuckin 2013 and the only thing that makes this one different is the fact that I’m not letting myself enjoy it unapologetically. :-/

Edit: I was going to leave it at that but I think I’m going to elaborate actually.

The biggest difference between the mcyt community, and all of the other fandoms/communities I’ve been a part of for so long is how old the communities themselves are, as well as the average age of the people in those fandoms. And in a lot of cases that’s what makes the dsmp/mcyt more toxic most of the time, especially (recently) for girls. Let me explain.

The minecraft YouTube community is obviously not a brand new thing. There’s creators like Grian, Mumbo Jumbo, even old server players like Tobuscus, hermit craft etc. But the thing about the Dream SMP community specifically, is that DSMP only got popular in the last year or so. Specifically, over quarantine the server grew exponentially, as did its fan base. This fan base, tends to be younger people (I’m talkin 14 and under), and is predominantly male for the majority of the content creators (especially for the “largest” creators on the server (ie, Dream, Tommy etc).

Now, I’m not saying this growth is bad. It absolutely is not, the creators have put in time and effort and care and it shows in the way they engage with their communities, in the way they put out for us, the way they have tried to create a safe space for their fans. But the problem with quick and exponential growth in a young fandom ESPECIALLY when that fandom consists of pretty young fans, is that a large part of that community is going to have little to no previous experience in a large fandom. (Now, this has much harsher consequences and can lead to a lot of risk for young fans who don’t necessarily realize the need the protect their identity/personal life from potential community predators, but that’s a post for another time), but the biggest consequence I see and experience from this sort of situation is fans not knowing/understanding what is acceptable in the fan space and the repercussions of their actions.

I’m talking specifically, in what tends to be male members of the community, the use of slurs or offensive language constantly, berating other fans who do x y or z (ie, people who only watch Dream for his speed runs/YouTube videos berating people who only watch him for DSMP/lore or Vice versa), more specific to the gaming community but male viewers not respecting or validating female content creators (don’t even get me started on the way Hannah, Niki and Puffy are treated and viewed by some fans), AND MOST IMPORTNATNTLY: toxicity surrounding how the fanbase engages or participates in the community. most of this happens inadvertently or without realization from the fans doing it.

This creates a VERY tense relationship both between female and male (and NB fans because there is a large portion of the NB community who watches mcyt/dsmp), and young and old fans. Women feel like they’re not welcome in the community, they are shamed for watching and participating in the communities, they are belittled and shamed for art/writing/any contribution to the fan base they make and at the end of the day it can be a VERY hostile place for female/NB fans.

Young fans don’t have a good example of how to act or respect (both content creators and fans) boundaries, they tend to be adverse to education on the things that they’re doing wrong, and often they will continue to behave as they do until someone they respect addresses their behavior. And the problem with a predominantly young fandom, is there isn’t a whole lot of older fans to do that correcting, and when there is young fans tend to have alienated them already and therefore don’t necessarily respect them.

I also want to address that I’m not saying this is only the case for the mcyt/dsmp community/fandom. I’m just saying the conditions that created the community (short timeframe, exponential growth, predominantly young and male audience) has contributed to current state of the community. Other fandoms also had periods like this, the main difference, and where it becomes more personal for me, is that these periods of growth and toxicity happened YEARS ago, and the community as well as the people who engage in it has “grown up” a bit, so to speak. When you look at shows like Doctor Who and Supernatural and Sherlock, those shows have all been going on for 10-15+ years and the fanbase has also grown with it, overall becoming a more welcoming place and a place where fan created content is appreciated by a lot of the fanbase. (It’s also important to note a key difference here between the physical consumption of mcyt/dsmp and traditional shows like DW/Sherlock/SPN, with the latter there’s a consistent hiatus that allowed for a huge influx of fan created content like art/writing/theories. A lot of the fan base came to rely on this content to fill the time until the “canon” returned. and in doing so that put a higher appreciation on fan content and creators (which tended to be predominantly female ((something that is also common for the dsmp community)), which overall contributed to the destigmatization and toxicity surrounding fan content.)

At the end of the day I’m not saying mcyt communities or the Dream SMP community is all bad, or even irrepairable. I am saying that as a female and LGBTQIA fan, I have inadvertently internalized some of the ultra toxic sentiment surrounding participation in things like fan art, fan theories, and general fan engagement, and I want to be comfortable sharing these things that interest me and keep me engaged in the community on my blog that I’ve had for 8 years with the same shameless enjoyment that I’ve lent to other fandoms, and I think we can get to that point, it’s just gunna take some self realization from the community. Aqua’s Live Reactions: “Las Nevadas”

Once again, despite knowing when exactly the livestream would happen, I decided to pull a Ge0rgeN0tF0und and slept through the latest lore event... though in my defense, the stream started at 5am in my time zone. Since the official vod still isn’t uploaded, I’m watching an unofficial one, so thank you to my friend Emily from Discord for uploading it.

As usual, a few things before we begin:

I basically don’t know what happens during the livestream, even though I woke up at 8am or so. Sure, I’ve seen a few minor spoilers through browsing Reddit and Tumblr (I’ve refused to interact with major blogs I follow to avoid them actively), but overall, I know next to nothing.

No one’s updated TV Tropes yet, so thank God I don’t have that as a source of spoilers. I might update them after watching the vod, though.
