RIDICULOUS (x.t)

xavier thorpe x reader (no pronouns mentioned)
Tumblr media
summary: reader is wednesday's cousin, or rather, uncle fester's child. you have transferred to nevermore, and on your first week, you meet someone. this turns into forming a secret alliance wednesday can't know.
reader has the same powers as uncle fester (electricity)
Tumblr media
Being around people who stare at you like your some animal zoo wasn’t really on my list, especially when they’re the same kind as you. An outcast or, a so called freak. I would’ve enjoyed this more if I did something terrible. But for some reason these people love peculiar blood lines.
I exit the door to the school indoors, and there I enter the quad. Where every student of monsters imaginable hang out. I loathe the gossips, but love the stares. Everyone turned their heads to me, then there was silence. I look around to muster in the atmosphere. It’s not that I think highly of myself. It’s just they make me feel highly than what they are. I felt a dark aura behind me, making its way next to me. I turn to my side, “Wednesday, my beloved cousin.” I turn my head back to the students, smiling, not at them but at her presence.
She has always made me feel wanted and seen, though we had different interests, she never failed to make me feel fit in.
“Y/n, it’s lovely to see you again.” Her hands clinged together, hanging down.
Her voice monotone, though I know her words were sincere. “How is the first week in this hellhole full of surprises?” She asked, sounding almost displeased. I sigh, not upset in any case. “Surprisingly good. Though my roommate appears to be a no-sleep enjoyer.” She hums, raising her eyebrows.
Silence fell after that, but then a familiar platinum blond, with colorful tips comes hopping our way. “Y/n, hope you don’t mind me borrowing Wednesday from you.” She smiles excitedly.
I return her kind smile, “No not at all, you may take her.” I see Wednesday look uncomfortable, but she let it happen. “Thank you!” Edin holds Wednesday by her shoulder, as they walk away to a bench. I walk to a pillar next to a wall art, standing beside the pillar. I felt electricity fuzz on my shoulder, making me flinch. I step back to see who it was
“What the…”— He looks down my size.—“Oh”
I hum, seeing the man. Tall, tall enough to be a tree, hair tied up, miserable eye bags, chiseled face. “No sorry? I apologize, I didn’t see you’s?” He raises his eyebrows, with a confused yet maintained calm tone. “Have you heard me say anything?” I respond, which he raises his eyebrows at this. He licks the inside of his cheek, muttering a silent Alright. He seemed used to it.
He turns around, and continued on painting the wall, the crow impressively detailed. He coated its background with a different shade of blue. I stare, blankly following his every move. “Please stop looking, I can feel your eyes,” The man lets out a breathy chuckle, still focused on the painting. My face hardens by the feeling of getting caught.
“My apologies.” I clutch on the bind of the book I was holding.
I didn’t give him time to say something, not that I was expecting him to. I turned around and went in a different turn of the quad.
Though I didn’t see it, he smiled unevenly when I apologized.
━ ━ ━✦❘༻༺❘✦━ ━ ━
"Do you know where it is?" Wednesday ask in a stern, yet eager voice. "Of course. Dad always told me stories about this school." Her eyes practically glew when I said that. "Will you please show me?" She blurted. "It's in that secret headquarters full of Nightshade wanna be's. " I slowly walk up the stairs, making sure my voice was low. She nods, satisfied with my answer. "I need you and Thing to get it for me. Weems has me on a radar right now." She stops next to the railings, looking at me. "Do you mind?" I smile at her, shaking my head a no "I don't mind , Wednesday". "Thank you." She whispers. As I look around, I saw Xavier looking at the both of us from the other side of the railings. My face turns stoic, as I inhale sharply.
Tumblr media
"So I just snap two times?" I asked Wednesday. "Yes, you'll need this." She confirms, handing me a flashlight. Thing crawls on my shoulder, giving me a thumbs up. Got it I responded. I face the statue, snapping two times. The statue slowly moved backwards, revealing a spiral staircase on the right side. I checked to look at my back. Wednesday was already gone. I exhale, walking to the stairs, the dark room full of paintings and the smell of old books greeted me. I point my flashlight to the wall, seeing every painting of whom I assume to be the parents of these students, which I familiarly recognize.
Unfortunately my father, didn’t possess the academic aptitude to be here, but I am grateful to be filled with his knowledge about this school, and letting me experience it at least.
My whole body shivers in joy seeing the Nightshade logo on the floor. Pure ecstasy erupted in me. Finally happy to see one of the best stories my father has ever told me, right in front of me. I keep my pace slow, paranoid by the idea of getting caught, but either way, what bliss. I could feel Thing patiently waiting on my shoulder. Suddenly, I hear something shift behind me. I had the instinct to turn around and flash out electricity on my finger, not yet zapping the said noise. "Woah━ woah." The man raises his arms up in the air, moving backwards. "Xavier?" I say breathly, whilst my eyes wide open. I slowly lower my hand, the electricity disappearing on my finger tips. We both pause. A minute of taking heavy breaths. Now that we're all alone, under this dim light, he looks good. Genuinely good. His hair not tied up in a man bun was a foreign sight to see. He was the first one to break the silence. "What are you doing here?" Brows furrowed, voice shaky. I blink profusely, thinking of an answer. Usually I'm great with lying, even at the most unbelievable situations. But right now, I can't just discard him away or say that I was exploring the school. Fuck.
My mouth opens, then it closes again. "Exploring. I couldn't sleep." I say. I try to ignore his eyes. Clearly doubting my excuse. "How did you get in? Not many people can." He asks. I subtly smile "Do you think of me as stupid?" I muse, tilting my head. He stiffens in his position "No━I just━ Forget it, I'm sorry." He rubs the back of his neck. "No worries," I blankly say, hiding my laugh. My eyes look around the room, seeing the painting that hides the treasure Wednesday desires. I make my way to it, not caring that he was still behind me. "What are you looking for?" He follows behind me. "This is none of your business." I hold the side of the painting, opening it like a door. "What the hell.." He says in awe. I hadn't even realize it, but Thing was now nowhere in my sight. "Thing?" I call out for him. "Wait, what? What are really here for, Y/n?" His voice now serious. I inhale deeply in exasperation. Turning around, I fuse electricity on my finger, pointing it at him. "Dare to speak a word of this and I will electrocute you in your bath." I threatened, slowly walk towards him. He looks at the blue fuzzing thing on my finger. "Okay, I won't. What can I do to help?" I sigh in annoyance once again, and I think he got the idea, but still stayed. "I prefer to commit theif crime alone." Thing signed, agreeing with me. "Would you rather me tell on Weems?" It's his turn to threaten me now. Though it didn't do much. "She'll lose one of the most rarest outcast, then." I smugly reply. "Trust me no one here needs you," I could hear his smile through those words. I ignore him, and proceeded to do what I was told to do. "Thing, open the safe please." I ordered Thing, and like that he obliged. "Hey, I don't think we're supposed to open that safe." Xavier peers, concerned of some sort. "Then leave." I bent down to the size of the painting or rather, safe. It opened swiftly, revealing the book I needed. I softly gasp, grabbing the book. Flipping through the pages. The pages contain different kinds of beasts. The man behind me slowly made his way next to me, interested in my discovery. My eyes widen as I saw the beast my cousin has been obsessed with. "That's the thing I keep on dreaming about," His voice low. My brows knit together, turning my head to his face level. "You've seen this before?" I ask in curiosity. He nods, "Yeah. I've been drawing them too, it's been on my mind for so long. It's fucking me up." He covers his mouth, faltering his eyes at mine. There was a pause, but then I turned around to look back at the book. I sharply close it, emitting a sound. I grab my bag, putting the book inside. "Thank you, Thing." I looked at the moving hand. Thing crawls back on my shoulder, making himself comfy. "Y'know, you might get caught, right?" Xavier puts his hands inside his jean pockets. "Yes, and the idea excites me." I reply coldly. Xavier snickers at this. "Let's go before anyone notices we're gone." I said. He nods, letting me walk up the stairs first, his tall figure following me behind. We made it out the underground place, and I immediately turn to a different path, but I was abruptly stopped by a hand holding tightly on my wrist. I look at his hand and up at him. "What?" I ask. "Do you have a phone, or are you just like your cousin?" He chuckles lowly. I straighten my position, raising my eyebrows. 'I prefer to be old schooled." I replied. "Letters?" He breathed. Well he catch on quick. "Yes. Why?" pure confusion runs my head. "Expect letters under your door." He drops my hand, now pointing at me. "I'll be ready with a lighter to burn them." I muse once again. "Is that a yes?" He pushed further on. This boy is ridiculous. I nod slowly, I could see and hear his smile through the darkness. "Goodnight Y/n."

Javier’s cell phone only rang for four reasons: his dad was calling, you were calling, it was one of the Murphys; Steve for their regularly scheduled Thursday chat, or Olivia wanting to talk to her tío and sometimes needing help with her Spanish homework. Last, and the phone calls he always ignored outside of business hours, were from his office.
The first time your boyfriend took a call while he was with you, you’d barely been dating a week.
While the two of you were cuddling on the couch on a Monday, watching some movie you couldn't even remember the name of because your brain at the time was focusing on getting naked instead of actually watching it, his phone on the coffee table in front of you started ringing. He apologized when he picked it up to check the caller ID and apologized again when he told you he had to answer it since it was his niece and got up from the couch.
It should’ve been an endearing moment, but your confusion had overshadowed it because you knew he had no siblings. You could admit it was pretty cute overhearing him in the kitchen talking to her in the sweetest voice he clearly saved for children, asking about how her summer was going.
After he hung up and returned to you, he’d explained: she was his best friend, Steve’s daughter, and he was her godfather, a role he took very seriously by being the best uncle to her and her younger brothers.
That was many months ago, and with today being Friday and Javi’s phone ringing on his bedside table in your shared bedroom, you had a feeling it was Olivia since he talked to his dad on his way home—the problem, though: your boyfriend was in the shower.
This seemed like an order-in kind of night, with it being the end of the week and you both wanting to relax. You’d just set the bag of Chinese food on the coffee table when you heard his phone going off. In less than thirty seconds, you had it in hand, the caller ID reading ‘Murphys,’ which was their landline, and confirmed your suspicion. Stepping inside the bathroom, the sounds of water roaring and splashing in the shower stall and the overhead fan humming greeted you; the large mirror over the sink was fogged up, steam permeating the air.
“Babe?” you said loud enough for him to hear.
The frosted glass door rolled open enough for Javi to stick out his head, his hair lathered in shampoo.
“Yeah?”
“Olivia’s calling.” You held up the ringing phone.
“Can you answer it and tell her I’ll call her back later?”
Now, Steve and his family were well aware of who you were, and you knew all about them, but you’ve never spoken to any of them. So this request had a nervous flutter erupting in your belly.
“Yeah,” you answered. “I can do that.”
A swoon-worthy smile appeared on his face. “Thanks, mi amor (my love).”
Immediately, you clicked the answer button, putting the phone up to your ear as you said, “Javi’s phone,” before making your way back into the bedroom and shutting the bathroom door behind you.
“You’re not Javi…” said a deep male voice that had your eyes going wide.
“You’re not Olivia…”
There was amusement in his tone, not expecting the smooth southern drawl. “No, I’m not. I’m her father, Steve Murphy, and you must be the woman my best friend is madly in love with.”
With a smile, you replied, “That’s me,” and introduced yourself.
“It’s nice to finally meet you—well, talk to you, at least. I gotta say I don’t think I’ve ever seen Javi this happy in all the time I’ve known him. You’ve been real good for him, and I’m glad he finally found someone who can put up with his grumpy ass.”
Warmth spread through your chest, his last comment making you giggle.
“You wanna know a secret?” you whispered.
“Yeah?”
“When he’s with me, he’s not grumpy. He smiles a lot and laughs. He’s really adorable, to be honest.”
“I don’t know if I’d call him adorable, but he’s like that with my kids, too.”
“Oh, Javi with kids is my kryptonite—he’s so good with them.”
“Let me tell you, when I came home to Miami after getting Escobar, he stayed with us for a while, and it shocked me how good he was with Olivia.” That didn’t surprise you. He’d grown up with practically all his cousins being younger than him, and he has a lot of them. “I don’t know if he told you, but not too long after he quit the DEA, he lived with us for a bit ‘cause he was having a hard time being in Laredo—from what I understand, there are some people there who aren’t too kind to him.”
“That’s an understatement, but yes.”
Javi staying in Miami for a time was something you were aware of.
Being back in Laredo had been hard for him, like Steve said, and he was known to run from his problems, so he went and lived with the Murphys for almost a year in their guest room. Then, one day, his dad called and told him not to worry, but doctors were running some tests after finding a mass on his liver that could possibly be cancerous. Javier’s mother, Antonia, died from breast cancer that wasn’t caught in time, so when he got off the phone, he packed his bags and was on the first flight home.
It was the kick in his ass he needed to realize his dad was all he had left and was worth braving his hometown. Chucho’s mass was benign, and Javi annoyed the fuck out of him his first month back by being a mother hen and fussing over him nonstop.
“Well,” Steve continued, “he came and lived with us and was a huge help with Olivia and Stevie. He was a natural with them—they love Javi more than their actual uncles.”
A grin was on your face, loving to hear that he’d done so well helping them with their children. “And he loves them like they’re his biological niece and nephews.”
“He really does.” There was fondness in his tone. “You know, when we were in Colombia, all the guys we worked with thought he was a giant asshole since he didn’t put up with their shit—I was his partner, and I thought he was a giant asshole, but all the women in the office seemed to love him because he was sweet to them. Your man only lightens up for women and children ‘cause I sure as hell did not have a partner who smiled and laughed a lot. Like, I’m looking at this holiday card y’all sent, and I barely recognize him with that big ‘ol grin.”
The holiday cards had been your idea.
Chucho did the photo shoot, and the picture you both chose had Javi and you in matching outfits of red sweaters and jeans, with him holding you from behind as you both smiled at the camera. Daphne and Velma, the seven-month-old calves you lovingly called your bovine children, were on either side of you wearing fake antlers, all of you in front of the red wooden barn, the bottom of the card reading, ‘Happy holidays from us to you,’ typed in a fancy script.
It was very cute.
It delighted you people were finally getting them, now wondering when you’d get that disapproving call from your mother. You knew it was looming on the horizon when your parents finally got theirs.
“It’s nice, though, right?” You chewed on your lip.
“Oh, it’s more than nice—it’s fuckin’ great! That man has been to hell and back, and it’s about damn time he finally gets to be happy and relax for once. Which reminds me why I called—were you guys able to get that time off next week?”
The two of you hoped to go to Miami the following week; there were just some issues with you getting days off.
“Yes! Javi was going to call you tonight. We can do Thursday through Saturday, but we need to be home Sunday for his birthday because we’re celebrating with his dad.”
“That’s fine! We’re just happy you can come! Excuse me, ma’am, Connie just came in the room and has a question for me,” It sounded like Steve covered the phone, hearing his muffled voice say, “Yes, baby, they’re coming… Thursday through Saturday, they need to be home for Javi’s birthday Sunday… It’s not Javi, it’s his girlfriend… She’s great… You know Javi, he doesn’t want a fuc-flipping birthday party… Fine, I’ll ask her.” Now you could hear him clearly. “My apologies, ma’am. My wife wants to know if you’d like us to throw Javi a birthday party?”
“Oh, you guys are already letting us stay with you. I couldn’t ask you to throw a party.”
“Okay.” He spoke to his wife. “She says that’d be too much since they’re staying with us.”
Noise sounded over the line like the phone was being passed, followed by a woman’s voice now speaking, “Hi, is this Javi’s girlfriend?”
“Yes,” you replied, giving her your name. “Is this Connie?” A baby was babbling in the background, and you thought she might be holding their youngest child.
“It is! It’s so nice to meet you! I can’t wait for you to visit next week.”
“I can’t wait either! I’ve heard so much about all of you, and I’m excited.”
“We’re just as excited! Now, it’d be no problem throwing Javi a little party, and the kids would love to celebrate with him. I mean, they love any excuse to eat cake.”
Giggling, you replied, “Well, we can’t deny the kids cake. If you insist, I’m sure Javi would be touched by the gesture.”
“Great! We’re going to have such a wonderful time. Javi’s told us how much you love the beach, so we’ll have to spend a day there, and I need to go grocery shopping. Is there anything you want to eat while here?”
You were hoping to go to the beach, and happy she mentioned it.
“I can’t think of anything. I’m not picky.”
“If you think of something, just give me a call. We want you to have a great trip.”
“I know it’s going to be amazing,” you said truthfully.
“I hope so! Okay, Steve wants the phone back. Nice to meet you, bye!”
“Nice meeting you, too!”
“It’s me again.” Steve was back on. “Are you guys going to need a ride from the airport?”
The bathroom door opened, and you looked over your shoulder to see Javi coming out in just a white towel wrapped around his waist, his hair blow-dried and styled.
“I don’t know…?” you distractedly answered. With you going on the trip soon, you had been refraining from sucking marks into his skin to avoid any awkward conversations with the Murphy kids. Still, there were fading hickies your eyes took in as they moved down his torso to the tantalizing trail of hair that disappeared beneath the cotton.
Tumblr media
With the fan on in the bathroom, he could hear Cielito on the phone; however, he was unable to make out anything she was saying, thinking she might be talking to Robyn or one of his family members. He walked into the room, and she looked over her shoulder at him, his chest puffing out a little at how she was checking him out.
“Who are you talking to?” he whispered.
Her gaze snapped up to meet his. “Steve,” she answered just as quietly.
That had him taken aback since he was pretty sure his best friend and wif-girlfriend had never spoken before. Was it Steve who called and not Olivia? Has she been on the phone with him this entire time?
What were they talking about?
“What does he want?” Javier asked.
“I’m sorry, Steve,” she said to the other man. “Javi’s here, so give me a sec.” She turned in place to face him, covering the speaker. “He called to find out if we could visit next week—which I told him yes, but he just asked if we’ll need a ride from the airport, and I don’t know the answer.”
Immediately, he held out his hand.
She uncovered the phone, talking to his friend again, “Steve, Javi wants to talk to you.” A big smile was on her face. “It was nice talking to you, too… Oh goodness, that’s so sweet… He makes me happy, too. Like super happy.” She shielded her mouth so Javier couldn’t see it, her eyes locked on his, while she whispered in a conspiratorial tone, “Don’t tell him I said this, but he’s an amazing boyfriend and so goddamn dreamy. Literally, the best partner I’ve ever had, and I cannot wait to marry him, so he’s mine forever.” What she said made him smile, and his heart skip a beat. Steve must’ve said something funny because she laughed. “Bye, Steve.” She passed the phone to him.
“Hey,” Javier said, with the cell phone pressed to his ear.
“Hey, Jav. Your girlfriend’s great, and we can’t wait to meet her.”
After his last relationship with Lorraine, and how he missed the red flags and ignored his mother’s warnings about her, having his family love the woman standing in front of him, and now Steve also liking her, it reassured him he was making the right choice for who he was going to marry—not that he had any doubts. Javier knew for a fact she was the one he was spending the rest of his life with. It just made him feel great that others could see how amazing she was.
“Yeah, she’s fucking incredible.”
“You’ve got it so bad for her.” Steve chuckled. “I got your holiday card, and I couldn’t believe my fucking eyes—the way you’re smiling, the matching outfits, and the dressed-up cows—”
“Daphne and Velma,” Javier interrupted.
The girls behaved well for the photoshoot—with the help of many treats and pets. He loved how the card turned out and was beyond happy Cielito even wanted to do something like that with him. It made him think of the future and the cards featuring the additions of tiny Peñas and seeing their family grow with each holiday season—showing their friends and relatives how their family had grown. Not that he loved the idea of rubbing their happiness in her parents’ faces or anything…
“These are your—what do you call them? Your bovine children?” He’d mentioned the calves on previous calls.
“Yeah,” he answered. “The red one is Daphne, and the other is Velma.”
“Okay, I’ll admit they’re pretty cute.”
“They are. So anyway, we don’t need you to pick us up,” he said, getting back on topic. “I’m gonna rent a car like I always do.”
“Sounds good.”
He turned away from his future fiancée as he spoke a little quieter, “Did you say anything embarrassing about me?”
His question made his best friend laugh, and he frowned. “You’ve got nothing to worry about, Javi. We talked about how great you are with my kids and that you’re only nice to women and children.”
That didn’t sound too bad.
He whispered, “How’d she react about me being great with the kids?”
Steve laughed again. “Positively. A direct quote is, ‘Javi with kids is my kryptonite.’”
Javier smiled. “Good. Tell mis sobrinos (my niece and nephews) I need them to be extra cute when we visit.”
“Will do. Speaking of the kids, Connie needs my help, so I gotta go.”
“Give them all my love, and I’ll see you next week.”
“I will. Bye, you asshole.”
“Adiós, pendejo (Goodbye, asshole).” He clicked the end call button, walking over to set the phone back on his bedside table.
“You’re a dork,” she said.
Turning toward her, amusement was clear on her face.
“Why am I a dork?” he asked, taking a few steps to stand in front of her.
“Asking my reaction to how good you are with his kids.”
His hands went up to cradle her face. “He said I was great with his kids.”
“Yeah, he did, and he said you were a natural with them.” Her eyes had darkened, her fingers dipping into the top of the towel at his waist as she bit her bottom lip—she was turned on, and it made him smirk, his cock beginning to harden.
“You like that?” he asked, leaning forward until his mouth was a hair's breadth away from hers, her eyes closing. “You like that if I got you pregnant, I’d be great with our baby?”
“Yes,” she breathed.
This was the moment his brain decided to remind him he needed to book everything for their trip right away.
His eyes squeezed shut, taking a deep breath and slowly letting it out as he pressed his forehead to hers.
“I’m sorry, Cielito,” he sounded pained. “We can’t fool around right now. I’ve got shit I need to do.”
“But we were about to have really kinky sex,” she groaned.
“I’ll make it up to you after I get all our stuff booked and we eat dinner.” He sweetly kissed her. “Anything you want,” he said when he broke away, looking her in the eyes. “Anything.”
“Okay. That’s acceptable. I both love and hate that you’re a responsible adult.” She pouted. “Use my credit card and book us in business class since it’s two seats in a row. That way, we won’t have to worry about anyone sitting with us.”
He smiled. “Yeah, I didn’t want anyone sitting with us either and planned on booking business—maybe first, depending on the price.”
“Meh, stick with business.”
“Okay. Window or aisle?”
“Window.”
“Good, ‘cause I like the aisle.”
That made her grin. “It’s like we’re meant to be or something. Next, you’re gonna tell me I can have your peanuts.”
“Oh, yeah, I never eat them. I usually just have a drink.”
Whiskey on the rocks.
“We’re soulmates.”
“We are.” He agreed with a nod.
“Ugh.” She stepped away from him, and his mouth turned down, his hands falling. “You’re basically naked, and I want to jump your bones. Put on some clothes, you saucy temptress.” Her head turned, shielding her eyes with her hand.
“Saucy temptress?” he chuckled, walking so close as he passed her their arms brushed, heading toward his dresser.
“You heard me—seducing me with your manly wiles and, god, your rockin’ bod. Okay, I’m going to the living room because you are so close to getting your dick sucked.” He opened a drawer, pulling out his sweatpants. “You know,” she said, still standing in the same spot but shuffling to face him. “You’re gonna be on the phone, right?” The towel dropped to the floor as he pulled on the pants.
“Yeah,” he answered.
“So, I mean, while you’re talking, theoretically, I could suck your dick while you’re doing it.”
He sucked in a breath, his half-hard cock twitching at the thought.
“You’re the saucy temptress,” he rasped, bending down with a groan to grab his towel and moving to toss it in the nearby dirty clothes hamper. “No, mi amor (my love), that’s how I end up accidentally booking us on a flight to fucking Australia or some shit.”
“You’re no fun.” She was pouting again, looking adorable.
“But I love you.”
“I love you, too.”

The Laredo Airport wasn’t very big.
Built by the U.S. Government during World War II, it was used by the United States Air Force, then during the Cold War, it was a pilot training base. With the defense cutbacks after the Vietnam War, the military presence ended by the tail end of 1973, with commercial air service not arriving until the summer of 1975.
The commercial air service? It would take you to exotic destinations, like Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston-Intercontinental. Basically, you flew from Laredo’s tiny airport to one of the larger Texan airports and, from there, headed to your desired location.
This is how you ended up on a flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport at 8:45 AM on a Thursday morning in December.
The trip would only be three days long, so you both packed carry-ons that Javi insisted he carry, or roll, for your suitcase; he brought a leather duffle bag for himself. He safely stored the luggage in the overhead compartment, and you had seated yourself by the window and buckled in, your boyfriend beside you in the only other seat in your row.
For a comfortable flight, you wore leggings, an oversized T-shirt, and tennis shoes. Javier? The man refused to look anything but his best out in public, so he was in his usual tight-ass jeans, a white button-up with a blue patterned design, and his black leather jacket—to go to Miami, where the weather was hot and, from what you were told, humid.
The things he did in the name of being the sexiest man alive.
Your leg was bouncing, your shoulders tense, chewing on your thumb.
Warm fingers laced with those of your free hand, Javi gently squeezing it.
“You a nervous flyer?” he whispered.
Turning your head toward him, you answered, “Little bit. It’s mostly take-off and landing. Once we’re in the air, I’m fine.”
“Yeah? How can I help?”
“I don’t know. Talk to me? Are you a nervous flyer?”
A little smile was on his lips, barely shaking his head. “No. I’m used to it with all the traveling I did for work. I will say I prefer planes over helicopters, though.”
The last of the passengers were boarding, but you aren’t paying any of them mind, in your little bubble with Javi.
“Did you fly in helicopters a lot?”
“Thankfully, no. We used them mostly when we needed to go out into the jungle, which I always fucking hated.”
“The helicopter ride or the jungle?”
“Both. It’s hot in there, and the animals. I, uh, don’t like snakes…”
His answer made you smile as you replied, “That’s very Indiana Jones of you.” A thought came to you. “Oh! Would you wear a fedora if I got you one?”
His eyes squinted. “No...”
The pilot came over the speaker.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome onboard Flight AA319 with service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Miami. We are currently second in line for take-off and should be in the air in approximately ten minutes. We ask that you please fasten your seatbelts at this time and secure all baggage underneath your seat or in the overhead compartments. We also ask that your seats and table trays are in the upright position for take-off. Please turn off all personal electronic devices, including laptops and cell phones. Smoking is prohibited for the duration of the flight. Thank you for flying American Airlines. We hope you enjoy your flight.”
You frowned at Javi, going back to your conversation. “But you’ve got the leather jacket—” You patted it over his pec. “—and the button up, that we can sluttily unbutton to show some skin, and we’ll get you a pair of khaki pants.”
His eyes remained narrowed. “Why do you always want me to dress up as characters played by that guy—what’s his name? Harry Ford?”
“Harrison Ford, and it’s not my fault he’s played some iconic characters that you’d look hot dressed up as—don’t lie to me and say you wouldn’t enjoy dressing up as Han Solo. You think he’s the coolest guy.”
He was frowning now. “Han’s okay, but Boba Fett’s cooler.” He shrugged.
Your eyebrow rose. “Do you want me to get you some Boba Fett armor so you can pretend to be a space bounty hunter, and we can make it horny and have you hunt me down?”
The wheels were turning in his head, and he seemed to be thinking it over, which made you giggle.
“It’d be too uncomfortable,” he finally answered. “And I wouldn’t be able to see shit in the helmet. If I’m gonna dress up as a Star Wars character, I’ll stick with Han.”
“Smart man.”
Javi kept talking to you about nothing important to keep you distracted as the plane started moving, only pausing when the flight attendants went over the safety briefing.
What you didn’t expect was right before take-off, he kissed you, and not a chaste kiss but a toe-curling, forgot-how-to-think, skin-heating, breath-stealing, tongue-tangling kiss that had you so caught up in him, you didn’t even notice the plane had left the ground, or rose thousands of feet into the sky.
When you finally broke away for air, you felt dazed; your eyes had closed, panting breaths and smiling. Arousal swirled in your belly and dripped into your panties, feeling the cotton dampened and sticking to your skin.
“Still feeling nervous?” he asked, kissing your chin.
“God, no.” You replied breathily. “Feeling horny.”
A ding sounded, the light showing ‘seat belts needed to be fastened’ turning off, a flight attendant announcing, “Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned off the fasten seat belt sign, and you may now move around the cabin.”
“Javi?” Your eyes opened.
“Yes, Cielito?”
Leaning close to press your lips to his ear, you quietly asked, “Have you ever joined the mile-high club?”
He audibly gulped. “No.”
“Would you like to?” His jacket was unzipped, and you walked your fingers over the skin on his chest, revealed by the top few buttons being undone, his aviators hanging in the dip.
“Hold on.” Suddenly, his seatbelt was clicking open, and he was rising, keeping his head ducked until he was in the aisle, hastening toward the front of the plane. Watching curiously, he opened a lavatory door and went inside, coming out a minute later, a grumpy look on his perfect face as he made his way back to you and sat down beside you with a grunt.
“It’s too fucking small,” he said, turning his torso to face you. “And I think we’d get caught if we tried.” He looked so disappointed, and the news made you sigh.
“It’s good one of us is a responsible adult making the right decisions.”
Leaning closer, he whispered, “I can get a blanket from the flight attendant and finger you under it if you really want to get off while we’re flying.”
The idea caused your cunt to clench hard around nothing.
“That sounds so good, but I’d want us both to get off. Guess we’re just gonna have to fuck when we go to bed tonight, and you’ll have to keep me quiet.” Your hand rubbed along his thigh, his eyes darkening.
“I love you so fucking much,” he rasped.
“I love you, too.”
“Steve would hate us fucking in the guest room.”
“That just makes you want to do it more, doesn’t it?”
“Oh, yeah.” He smirked.
“You’re such an asshole to him,” you giggled.
“He deserves it,” he replied, closing what little distance was between you to kiss your lips.
The flight was barely three hours long, which you spent reading the small book stashed in your purse, your boyfriend beside you with his reading glasses on, his big hand holding his own book you’d kept for him.
When the flight attendant came down the aisle with the drink cart and snacks, Javi got a whiskey, while you got ginger ale and both bags of peanuts.
The books were put away when it was time to land, and he held your hand tight while the other caressed your face as he distracted you with another mind-blowing kiss—you’d never enjoyed taking off and landing so much.
Off the plane, Javi had the bags—carrying his duffle by the handles and rolling your luggage through the airport to the rental car agency. You took his bag when you got to the counter so he could fish his wallet out of his back pocket, passing the employee his driver’s license with you standing beside him.
The dark-haired man on the other side was smiling as he read the card and started inputting the information into a computer, his name tag reading Martin and beneath it, ‘Hablo Español.’
“Welcome to Miami, Mr. and Mrs. Peña!” Martin said, his words heavily accented. Your eyes rounded, Javi’s arm wrapping around your waist to pull you into him. “I hope you had a pleasant trip!”
“It wasn’t too bad,” your future husband replied. “Right, Mrs. Peña?” He was smirking when he turned his head toward you, looking beyond delighted.
“Right, Mr. Peña,” you answered with a smile, getting closer to him by hooking your arm around his middle, resting your head against his chest. “The flight was pretty great.”
“Awe,” Martin replied. “Newlyweds, no? Here on your honeymoon?” He glanced up from what he was doing.
“Something like that,” Javi responded, kissing your hair.
The conversation transitioned to business, with your boyfriend having to sign a lot of paperwork before he handed you a small stapled stack and the employee directed you where to go to get the car, which involved getting on a shuttle bus.
The sun was shining down from the clear blue sky, the temperature hot and humid, Javi having to take off his leather jacket. You were more than happy to carry it along with the papers for the car while he took care of lugging around the bags when they dropped you off at the car lot. A stop had to be made in a small, blissfully air-conditioned building to get the keys and have someone take you to where the vehicle was parked. You would think for such a short trip and the small amount of stuff you had, he would’ve rented a full-size sedan at most—nope, Javi rented an SUV, a brand new forest green ‘98 Ford Explorer, to be exact.
His aviators were on, leaving you with the bags on the ground at your feet. At the same time, he meticulously inspected the SUV’s exterior for any scratches or dings that needed to be reported so they weren’t blamed on you, rubbing his thumb over some spots.
Sometimes—well, a lot of the time when you were out in public—he had an intimidating aura about him, ‘just don’t fuck with me’ vibes wafting off of him with the grumpy expression on his face and how confidently he moved about. It came in handy when you were in crowded places because people stayed out of his way and didn’t bother you—instead of scary dog privilege, you had scary boyfriend privilege. An issue with scary boyfriend privilege: he was making the rental car agency worker extremely nervous, the poor man holding his clipboard and sweating profusely, which you didn’t think had anything to do with the weather.
He was standing by you as Javi did his thing, shorter than your boyfriend with light skin, brown hair, and if you squinted, he kind of looked like Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle—same hairstyle, same forehead.
“He’s a teddy bear,” you whispered to the employee.
There was confusion on his face when he looked at you. “What?” he asked.
“Javi—” You nodded in the direction of the man, who was crouched at the passenger side door and using his thumb to see if a mark was dirt or a scratch. “—he’s a teddy bear. It’s just how his resting face looks. Watch this.” You called out to Javi, “Find anything, baby?”
“No,” he answered, grunting as he rose to stand. His hands were on his hips as he gave the side of the vehicle another look over.
“I love you,” you told him.
His head turned in your direction, giving you a beaming smile. “I love you, too, mi amor (my love).”
He looked back at the SUV, and you said quietly out of the corner of your mouth, “See.”
“I didn’t notice anything,” Javi told the employee, heading your way and wiping his hands on his jeans.
“That’s great, sir,” the worker replied. “I just need you to sign here.” He pointed at a place on the paper clipped to his clipboard with the pen he showed your boyfriend. Javi was quickly signing and taking the offered keys.
“Thank you,” your boyfriend said, shaking the other man’s hand.
“No problem. If you have any issues, just give us a call.”
“Sounds good.”
The employee went away.
The vehicle was already unlocked, so Javi walked over to the front passenger-side door. “Let me get your door, Mrs. Peña,” he said as he opened it.
It made you giggle, moving his way with his jacket and the paperwork still held in your arms and hand, avoiding the bags on the ground. “That really made your day, didn’t it?” you asked, leaning in to kiss him when you were in front of him.
“Yes, Mrs. Peña,” he murmured against your lips, feeling him smile. One of his hands was on the top of the door with the keys tucked in his palm, his other grabbing a handful of your ass.
“You’re adorable, Mr. Peña.” Breaking away, you continued, “Give me the keys so I can get the AC going.” There was a grin under his perfectly trimmed mustache as he dangled the keys in front of your face, and you maneuvered the stuff in your arms to free up a hand to grab them—he pulled them away before the tips of your fingers even touched the metal.
You glared at him when he said, “Ask nicely for them this time.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
Inhaling deeply, you let the air leave your nose in a huff. “My love, may I please have the keys so I can get the AC going?”
“Of course, baby.” He handed them to you. “I’ll take care of the bags.” Leaning in, his lips met your cheek in a loud smacking kiss, slapping your ass before he walked away.

Miami had become a home away from home for Javier. It was a place where he could relax and be surrounded by the Murphys, whom he considered family even though they didn’t share blood.
Colombia never felt like home.
He knew he wasn’t welcome down there, finding his sparse apartments cold and lifeless, the only personal touch he made in the later years being the ofrenda for his late mother. There was no relaxing in South America when each morning he woke up could’ve been his last. Sure, he had Steve and Connie for a lot of it, but they were just as stressed as he was, and more so when Olivia came about, to the point Connie just up and left, back to the States.
Colombia was never home, and at the time he was sent back to Texas after his fuck up with Los Pepes, Laredo didn’t feel like home either.
He hadn’t known where he belonged when a good portion of the people in the town where he was born and raised still judged him for something he’d done over a decade earlier, a handful even hostile toward him.
After Steve finished their work and got Pablo Escobar, he returned to Florida to his wife and kid. They invited Javier to visit and stay in their guest room for however long he needed, and he had. They wouldn’t take any money he tried to offer them, but they accepted his help around the house and caring for Olivia, who was five by then.
Then he was called back to South America, and upon returning to the U.S. after that stint, he stayed with his dad for a month before he was in Miami again, that time for about a year, where he helped out with their barely ten-month-old, Stevie, and seven-year-old Olivia.
After going back to Laredo to be with his dad, he’d take occasional weekend trips like he and Cielito were doing now to stay with the family. Those trips became less frequent when they adopted Nate—he felt it was important they all had time to bond with their new addition without him being in the way.
He spent so much time in this Florida city, he knew his way around pretty well, like how it was faster to take 874 South instead of Ronald Reagan Turnpike, and as a bonus, they’d avoid tolls.
The air conditioning was cranked high, whooshing loudly while a Spanish station played loud enough to hear. He had one hand gripping the steering wheel, the fingers of his other laced with those of the woman he was going to marry, resting on her thigh.
She was looking out at the scenery in interest as they drove.
“Why’d you get this car?” she asked, staring out her window.
“So we’d have room for the little passengers.” Bringing her hand up, he kissed the back of it.
She looked at him. “The kids are gonna want to ride with us?”
He glanced at her, resting their hands back on her leg, smiling. “Oh, yeah. At least Olivia and Stevie—Nate’s too young to care. Doing the whole car seat thing in a smaller car fucking sucks.”
“So, what I’m hearing is we will be getting something like this when the baby-making starts and my car will have to go?”
Her car was a tiny two-door Honda, and just thinking about getting a car seat in it was making his back hurt, her question also causing his chest to go tight from happiness.
His eyes were back on the road. “Sorry, baby.” He squeezed her hand. “I know you love your car. I was thinking something bigger than this.”
“True,” she replied. “We gotta have room for all those babies you’re gonna knock me up with.”
A shock of arousal shot through his belly.
He had to clear his throat, his voice a little deeper. “Yeah…”
“I can’t believe that innocent comment turned you on,” she laughed, and he frowned.
“Don’t laugh,” he grumbled, having to wiggle a tiny bit in his seat with how blood had rushed to his dick.
Immediately, she stopped but still sounded amused. “I’m sorry, babe. I know it excites you a lot.”
“Excites you a lot, too.”
“Yes, it does. So, let’s talk about something safe. How long before we’re there?”
“About fifteen minutes.”
“That’s not too bad.”
She questioned him about what they lived close to, and he answered they were near a zoo, some parks, and the ocean was a ten-minute drive.
The Murphys lived in a one-story ranch-style house with an A-shaped gable roof extending over the front porch. The stucco on the outside was painted a golden yellow with crimson trim, and the window panes were outlined in bright white.
In the driveway, Connie’s minivan and Steve’s little truck were parked. Javi pulled in behind his best friend’s rig, and not even thirty seconds later the front door was opening, hearing muffled, high-pitched squeals.
“Hey,” he said to Cielito, getting her attention. “Relax. They’re gonna love you. You have nothing to worry about.”
“Promise?”
He smiled, letting go of her hand to hold up his pinky. “I pinky promise.” That made her smile as she looped hers with his, and he leaned in to kiss her quickly.
“Okay, we better get out,” he said.
“Okay.”
Out of the vehicle, Javier walked around the front, a tiny dirty blonde toddler screaming at the top of his lungs as he ran out of the house, “Tío (Uncle)! Tío! Tío! Tío! Tíoooooo!”
It made him smile, crouching and opening his arms to catch the little boy, holding and hugging him as he stood back up. “Mi sobrino (My nephew)!” The child was securely sitting on one of his arms, looking more like his dad than the last time he saw him. “You’ve gotten so big, Stevie!” He tickled the toddler’s belly, making him laugh and squirm.
Connie came out with Nate on her hip and Steve smiling beside her.
“What are you feeding him?” Javier asked his friends. “How has he grown so much in, what, eight, nine months?”
“Kids grow fast, Javi,” Steve answered. “Nate’s already walking.”
His eyes went wide, getting a good look at the baby who’d only been six or so months the last time he was here and now was over a year old and a toddler—he was bigger, his olive-colored arms not as chubby, the black curls on top of his head longer, and eyes still as dark as he remembered.
“You’ve gotta be fuc—” The other adults gave him looks, quickly correcting himself. “—freaking kidding me. He’s walking? Already?”
“Yep,” Connie answered. “And talking. Right now, he’s tired because it’s nap time. Isn’t that right, baby?” she cooed, kissing Nate’s hair, his head resting against her shoulder and babbling.
He was stunned at how quickly they grew in so little time, feeling a ball of anxiety form in his gut, thinking about his future children and losing so much time with them because of work. Dread was heavy like a stone on his chest at the thought of missing milestones of his kid’s growth.
Fingers snapped in front of his face to get his attention, hearing his name and realizing it was Steve, Javier swallowing hard.
“What?” he asked.
His best friend’s eyebrow rose. “I asked if you were gonna be polite and introduce us to your girlfriend.”
“Oh, shi-shoot.” She was on the side with his empty arm, and he rubbed his hand up her back, smiling. “Sorry, Steve, Connie, this is the woman I’m gonna marry—” He told them her name. “—or I just call her mi Cielito, my little heaven.” He kissed her temple. “Cielito, these are my best friends, Steve, Connie, Connie’s got Nate, and—” Straightening, he looked at the child in his arms. “Hey buddy, you wanna tell her your name?” he asked gently. Stevie hid his face in Javier’s neck, and his big hand went to the back of his head while his parents laughed. “Awe, it’s okay, bud.” He rubbed over the boy’s hair. “I know she’s a new person. She’s really nice and excited to meet you, and she makes amazing cookies.”
His little head popped up. “Cookies?” his tiny voice asked.
Javier smiled. He knew that’d get him. “Yeah, she makes amazing cookies.”
“I want cookies,” Stevie replied. His attention turned to Connie. “Can we have cookies, Mommy?”
“One second, baby boy.” She walked toward Cielito to whisper something in her ear.
His girlfriend nodded her head, answering, “Sure! I can do that!”
“Is it really okay?” the other woman asked, meeting her eyes.
“Yeah!”
“Okay.” Connie looked at her eldest son. “The nice lady says she’ll make cookies with you, but you’ll have to tell her your name.”
The boy looked past Javi to excitedly shout at Cielito, “Stevie!” Reaching his little arms toward her, and it made warmth spread through him when, without missing a beat, she took the toddler from him.
“Hi, Stevie,” she said with a warm smile. “It’s nice to meet you.”
They were facing him, and Javier pointed at her. “She’s gonna be your tía (aunt), Stevie.”
The child’s eyes moved from him to her. “Tía?” he asked, shoving a finger at her chest.
“Yeah, bud, she’s your tía (aunt), and I’m your tío (uncle).”
Tiny blue eyes met his. “Tío—” His head turned to her. “—Tía.”
“Yes.” She confirmed. “And you’re Stevie.” She gently poked his chest.
“Stevie!” He clapped his hands. “We’re gonna make cookies, Tía?”
“Yes, your mom said after your nap.”
“Well, let’s head inside then, guys,” grown-up Steve announced.
“Come with me,” Connie told his girlfriend. “The men can get the bags, and I’ll put the boys down for a nap.”
“Okay,” she replied.
It made him smile how easily she went, his eyes on her back with the toddler on her hip, whispering to him, and Javier thought it looked so perfect, so right; his mind was running wild with images of what she’d look like holding their child—wishing she was holding their child. Stevie looked like a miniature version of Steve; would Javier’s child with his future wife look more like him or her? Or would they be a mix of them both? What he knew for sure was they’d be perfect, and he would love them more than anything in the goddamn world.
Fuck, he couldn’t wait to get married.
Hands landed on his shoulders from behind.
“Jesus Christ, Jav,” Steve laughed, giving him a playful shake. He got out of the hold, spinning around to see his friend’s grinning face that made him clench his jaw. “I knew you had it bad, but this is something else—you’re really in love with this girl.”
His eyebrows creased, frowning.
Steve had known about his girlfriend since their relationship began and even gave him wanted and unwanted advice when he did and didn’t need it—he knew damn well Javier loved her. He’d been on his ass to fucking tell her, like how he’s been on his ass to get him to fucking propose, and only now was he actually believing it was all real?
It pissed him off that his best friend doubted his feelings for her.
“Fuck you, man,” he replied, shoving the other man’s shoulder and watching his face fall. “Yeah, I fucking love her. I’ve fucking told you.”
“Hey, hey—” Steve put up his hands in a placating gesture. “—I know you love her, Javier. I’ve known from how you’ve talked about her, but seeing it in person is something else.”
“What do you mean?” His hands were perched on his hips, ignoring the beads of sweat dripping down his spine under his shirt.
Steve smiled. “That ugly mug of yours—” He gestured at Javier’s face. “It’s clear in how you look at her. It’s like you’ve got fuckin’ hearts in your eyes or some shit,” he chuckled, Javier sighing. “I’ve known you for a long fucking time, Javi, and I’ve never seen you look at anyone the way you look at her.”
The explanation mollified him.
“I’ve never felt like this with anyone but her.”
“I know.” His friend clapped a hand on his bicep. “And I’m really fucking happy for you, Jav.”
“Thanks.”
“I’m sweating my balls off. Let’s get inside.”
“Yeah, it’s fucking hot,” he replied, heading toward the back of the rental.
He didn’t need help carrying the bags or directions to the guest room.
The house was nice and cool as he walked inside along the stone tiled floor and directly into their formal sitting room containing a long beige couch against the far left wall with a walnut-colored coffee table in front of it; a smaller version of the sofa along the wall beside the front door and under the large white-framed window, a chair that matched the same style across from it, and end tables at the sides of the couches.
They never actually used this area unless they were hosting guests or during Christmas when Connie would rearrange the furniture to make it picturesque with their tree. Steve thought it was a waste of space; his wife could never know that.
His shoes came off with everyone else’s by the front door, where Connie had a shoe rack overflowing with pairs for adults and children, leaving his next to Cielito’s on the floor. Going further into the room, Steve headed for the kitchen while he turned down the hallway that opened to the right and led to the bedrooms and bathrooms. Olivia’s was the first door on the right. The second was a full bath themed around dolphins, her favorite animal, with them on the shower curtain, the art on the walls, painted on the toothbrush holder, and soap dispenser.
Next was Nate’s room, his door closed and across the hall from his parents’ master suite.
The two boys’ rooms happened to be connected by a bathroom between them. Javier stopped in his tracks at Stevie’s open door—the woman he came here with, the one who made him the happiest man in the world, who he was going to marry and spend the rest of his life with, was sitting on the edge of his nephew’s bed with her back to the door, her attention on the child lying on his side facing her with his eyes closed under a light blanket as she rubbed small circles on his shirt-covered back.
Javier’s eyes crinkled at the edges when he smiled, a soft sigh leaving his lips.
“She volunteered,” Connie whispered behind him, causing him to jump in his skin. “Sorry for scaring you—“ She squeezed his arm reassuringly. “She volunteered,” she continued. “Asked me how she could help and what Stevie’s nap time routine was, and it looks like she’s a pro. She’s great with him.”
“Yeah, she is.” He spoke just as quietly, glancing over his shoulder. “Rubbing his back still puts him to sleep?”
She playfully slapped his arm. “That’s your damn fault.”
“It makes him fall asleep, doesn’t it?”
“Quickest way. We do it with Nate, too.”
“Then why are you mad at me?”
“It’s not right you out-parented us. Now, you better marry this woman, Javier. It’s about damn time you become a father.”
He scratched at his mustache. “You, uh, think I’d be a good dad?”
She looked at him like he was stupid.
“Javier, you’ve always been so much help when you stay with us, and the kids adore you. Yeah, you’re gonna be a fantastic father.”
His throat was feeling tight. Steve arrived at Connie’s back, holding a beer.
“What are y’all whispering about?” the other man quietly asked.
“Javi being a great dad,” his wife replied, looking over her shoulder at him.
“Oh, yeah, we’ve known that for years,” Steve said. “We just didn’t think you’d ever pull your head out of your ass and settle down.”
“Didn’t find the right person until now.” Javier shrugged. He peeked into the room, seeing his future wife was still occupied. Turning his head, he told the other two, “Follow me to the guest room. I need to ask you a favor.”
Tumblr media
To be honest, you were really nervous about helping with nap time and stayed a little longer than necessary, rubbing the sleeping three-year-old's back to ensure he truly was passed out.
There’d been whispers in the hall that hadn’t helped your nerves, wondering what the other three adults were saying amongst themselves and knowing it was probably about you, hoping it was positive. Steve and Connie seemed to like you, and she had trusted you to help with her child, so that was a good sign. They’d disappeared into the guest bedroom, down and across the hall, Connie had pointed out earlier when she gave you a very quick tour.
You figured it was probably safe to leave now, ensuring the toddler was tucked in under his dark blue blanket before you’d gotten up and quietly tip-toed out of the door you closed behind you with a soft click.
It didn’t take too many steps to get to where the guest room door was cracked open, with light spilling out into the hallway, and muffled voices could be heard. You entered, finding your boyfriend and the other couple huddled at the foot of the queen-sized bed directly in front of you.
The walls were painted a soothing greige, the greyish-beige color accented by the eggshell white ceiling, trim, and doors for the closet and en suite. An interesting choice was the wrought iron bed frame that looked old and out of place alongside the nice newer black bedside tables and dresser across from it and the stone-colored armless accent chair in the corner—even the lamps were modern, making the dark, possibly rusting, iron stick out like a sore thumb. The large framed photos of ocean waves crashing and rolling decorating the walls made up for it, though, enjoying the room's atmosphere.
Javi’s head turned toward you, and he smiled. “Hey, baby.” He took a couple of steps to grab your hand and pulled you over to the Murphys.
“What were you guys talking about?” you asked.
“Going to the beach tomorrow,” Connie answered with a big smile. “Olivia’s staying home from school, and we were thinking we’d spend the day there.”
That made you grin. “I’d love that!” Javi pulled you into his side.
Your bags were on the ground in front of the dresser.
“I know,” your boyfriend said, kissing your hair.
It had warm fuzziness spreading through your veins at how thoughtful they were.
“Well, glad we’ve got that figured out,” Connie announced, clapping her hands together. “Javi knows, but let me show you where everything is.”
“Okay.”
She took you into the pretty standard bathroom—the combination shower/bathtub against the furthest wall from the door with a floral printed shower curtain on a golden rod; the bathroom vanity on your right as you walked in, painted white with a similar color laminate countertop and sink with red handles to open the drawers and cabinets under the sink, a large mirror hanging on the wall above it, and the toilet in the space between it and bath. She opened the doors under the sink so you could see where the towels and washcloths were kept and led you back into the bedroom to open the closet door so you knew where the extra blankets were.
“—and I’m sorry about the bed.” Connie grimaced.
“Yeah,” Javi interjected. “What happened to the old bed frame?” His hands were on the top of the footboard that looked like a wide, upside-down U made out of a thick pipe, with two smaller ones going across and others connecting those two in the middle. He gave it a little shake, the metal squeaking loudly.
“Steve saw this—” She pointed at it. “—and said it reminded him of a bed he’d slept in at his grandparents, and he just had to buy it. He thought it’d look great in here.”
“Right…” Javi replied, turning his head, and even though all you could see was the back of it, you knew he was glaring at his friend.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Steve asked, crossing his arms. “I have fond memories of spending time with ‘ol peepaw and granny. Like when he’d take me duck hunting.”
You were pretty sure you heard Javi mutter, “Fuckin’ hillbilly.”
Obviously, he was not happy about the sounds the bed was making, and you were a little disappointed about it, too—he hadn’t been joking about Steve hating you fucking in here.
The blonde man was smirking. “What was that?”
“I said it’s great you’ve got fond memories,” Javi sighed, looking forward again with the fingers of one hand pressed to his forehead.
“So,” Connie began, “again, I’m sorry about how squeaky the bed is—”
“I’m not,” Steve interrupted, which earned him a middle finger from your boyfriend, whom the blonde man simply laughed at.
“I’m sure it’s not that bad,” you said, trying to keep things civil.
“Hopefully,” the other woman replied with a nervous smile. “Well, we’re gonna get out of your hair ‘cause I’m sure you wanna freshen up after your flight.”
“If it’s okay with you guys, I might take a cat nap after I shower. Getting up so early and traveling has exhausted me.”
“Oh, that’s absolutely fine, honey.” She checked her watch. “We’ve got a little over an hour before Olivia is home, and the boys will sleep until right before she gets home. Come on, Steve, let’s leave them alone.”
“Yes, dear,” her husband answered, following her as she walked out of the room, Javi moving to close and lock the door after them.
He turned around with a grumpy expression, letting out a loud, long sigh.
“I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think it is,” you told him as you took a couple of steps to the bed and started getting on it—immediately, high-pitched squeaks sounded with any kind of movement you made on the mattress. “Okay, so it’s worse than your bed at your dad’s…”
“He did this on purpose,” he seethed, putting his hands on his slim hips while all his weight went to one side.
You were lying on your side with your head propped up on your arm to look at him standing over by the door.
“Uh, yeah, that’s obvious. It was a lot of effort to put into cock blocking you. He really doesn’t like the idea of you fucking under his roof.”
“I told you he’d hate it—didn’t think he’d do this.” He pouted.
You didn’t like how upset he was, and you had a great idea of how to cheer him up.
Ignoring the ear-splitting sounds as you got up from the bed.
“Keep standing there, looking pretty. I’ll be right back.”
You saw the confusion on his face for only a moment before you were walking around the front of the bed and away from him to go through the bathroom door beside the dresser. In seconds, you were back in the bedroom and tossing a white towel onto the grey chair in the corner on the other side of the en suite door.
“Are you taking a shower?” he asked, watching with curiosity as you moved toward him, his eyes on yours.
“Not right now,” you answered. “I’ve got more important things to do.”
Finally, you were in his space. “Like what?”
“You,” you answered, grabbing him by his open collar and tugging him toward you to crush your mouth against his, swallowing his moan. His arm went around your waist, the other hand on your back, allowing you to lick into his mouth, his tongue eagerly moving with yours in a familiar dance you both knew all too well.
Arousal was burning in your belly, feeling your heartbeat at the apex of your thighs, your need for him seeping into your underwear.
Your fingers started working open the buttons on his shirt.
“We can’t fuck on the bed,” he breathily said between kisses, a big palm grabbing your ass.
“The chair,” you replied, nipping at his bottom lip.
Suddenly, he was pulling back to look you in the eyes, his reddened lips glistening from spit while his shirt was unbuttoned, hanging open.
“The fucking chair,” he rasped, a look on his face like he was only just realizing.
“Yeah.” You nodded. “There’s also the floor, the counter in the bathroom, the shower, and the clear space at the wall right there—” You pointed behind where the door opened. “—if you were in the mood for wall sex, but you’re really upset about the bed—” You rubbed your hands up his bare chest. “—so I thought you’d enjoy getting ridden on the chair.”
His lips turned up in a toothy grin. “I love you so fucking much.” He kissed you quickly.
You matched his expression, looping your arms around his neck. “I love you, too, and I’m not letting a sabotaged bed stop me from getting dicked down. We just have to be… creative and quiet.”
His eyes darkened, the pink of his tongue peeking out for a second, and when he spoke, his voice had gone deeper and raspier. “You’re not tired,” he said matter-of-factly, his arm pulling you into him so your bodies were flush.
“Nope.” You popped the ‘p.’
“You don’t want to take a nap.”
“I don’t want to take a nap,” you confirmed.
His fingers slid along your cheek until he cradled your face, his gaze stuck to yours. “You want me to fuck you.”
“Very much.”
His head moved until his lips were grazing yours, nuzzling your nose with his. “What got you so worked up you couldn’t wait until we went to bed tonight, Cielito?”
His proximity was fanning the flames of arousal inside you, making your entire body heat, your nipples tighten, and your lips tingle where his barely touched.
Snaking your hand between your bodies, you palmed his hard cock straining against the zipper of his pants. “Probably the same thing that has you hard as a rock—I can’t stop thinking about having babies with you.”
“Fuck,” he groaned, thrusting into your hand. “I can’t fucking wait.”
“To get me pregnant?” you purred, stroking him over his jeans. “Or to fuck me?”
“Both,” he growled, grabbing the hem of your oversized shirt and saying as he roughly pulled it up and off your arms to land carelessly on the floor, “and you fucking know it.” You did, and it made your pussy throb.
“I do.” You helped him shrug off his button-up, your hands going to his belt next. “And I can’t fucking wait either.” The buckle clinked as you effortlessly worked it open and unbuttoned his jeans, hearing the teeth pull apart as you unzipped them.
Warm palms held your face to make you meet the dark pools of his eyes.
“To get pregnant,” his voice had gone lower, seeing his tongue quickly wet his bottom lip. “Or for me to fuck you?”
His pants were undone, and with there being no underwear in your way, you reached in and took him in hand, his shaft feeling like steel wrapped in heated velvet—hot, hard, and silky to the touch. A thrill moved through you at his mouth falling open and eyes closing, his groan going straight to your cunt.
“Both,” you answered.
One word and he became ravenous, desperate, smashing his mouth to yours in a passionate kiss while he went about undressing you as he walked you backward toward the chair—your bra getting tossed somewhere to your left, his lips leaving yours and stopping long enough for him to tug down your leggings and underwear in one fell swoop. He ghosted kisses up your body when he rose again until your mouths were attached once more, continuing the journey to the corner chair, his arm holding you around your middle to help guide you, your hands hanging onto his shoulders.
He spoke between presses of his lips to yours, “You looked so fucking perfect holding the kid…. You’re gonna be an amazing mother to our children…. I need you so fucking bad…. I wanna give you a baby…. Let me fuck a baby into you…. Please.” The last bits made you moan into his mouth, your nails digging into his skin.
The lines were blurred, and you weren’t sure if this was him leaning into the kink you shared or if he was being serious. It was true you couldn’t wait to get pregnant, but you both were well aware the apartment you lived in wasn’t big enough for the addition of a baby and had been actively working with one of the only two architects in town to design the home you planned to build. There was also the fact you wanted to get married first, and the proposal was months away. As much as you both wanted a child, you couldn’t start trying for another year at minimum.
Why were you overthinking this? You would just have a discussion with him after the sex to make sure you were both on the same page.
“God, yes,” you gasped. “I want it.”
The soft fabric of the chair hit the back of your legs, his big hands gripping your asscheeks, murmuring against your lips, “Let me eat your pussy first.”
“Later,” came your muffled reply. “This has to be quick, so we don’t get caught.”
You could feel him frowning before he broke away.
“I don’t fucking care if we get caught.” His eyebrows were furrowed, and his lips were turned down.
What he said made you sigh, another thing that had you overthinking. “I know you don’t care,” you kept your tone as gentle as possible, rubbing your hands over his bare back. “But I do. They’ve been your friends for years and already love you. I’m only just meeting them, and I don’t want to give them a bad first impression. Yeah, I’m okay with going against Steve’s wishes and fucking here, only as long as he doesn’t know. Does that make sense?”
“Yeah, I get it. I’m sorry.” He scrubbed a hand over his face. “I was an asshole for even thinking of letting us get caught.”
“It’s okay.” Your hands skated along his naked sides. “Now, let’s get back to the sexy—I am so horny.”
His hand fell. “Do you need me to finger you?”
“I think I’m wet enough. One second, though.” You held up a finger before turning around and spreading the towel over the seat. Facing him again, you ordered, “Pants off, Mr. Peña, and sit,” and moved out of his way.
He huffed out an amused breath, pushing down his jeans. “As you wish, Mrs. Peña.” Stepping out of them, a pained groan slipped from his throat as he straightened, taking the seat as you requested.
The armless chair was about as wide as a dining room chair with some cushioning and a channel-stitched back, covered in grey velvet, the wooden legs painted black. Javi sat down, getting comfortable as he sat back and spread his legs.
The sight before you had your mouth going dry.
His lust-filled gaze was looking up at you, taking in the broad shoulders, the expanse of his golden chest down to his soft tummy, where below his belly button, a trail of hair led your eyes to his big hand slowly stroking his hard cock; the tip was red and shining from the steady dribble of precum leaking from it, that he was using to ease the glide of his palm—he was the perfect picture of seduction and you were under his spell, willing to do anything he wanted.
A crooked smile appeared under his mustache.
“You wanna watch me jerk off?” he asked. “Or are you gonna ride me?”
The questions snapped you out of your reverie.
“Sorry,” you quickly apologized, stepping to stand between his widened knees. “You’re just so sexy, and you know, watching you jerk off really gets me going.”
“I know, mi amor (my love),” he chuckled.
His hand left his dick, the long shaft resting against the coarse hair on his belly. Gently, he tugged you by the arm down for a kiss, and you took over, slowly stroking him at the odd angle, making him groan into your mouth when you went lower to fondle his sack, his large palm reaching around to trace the curve of your ass before giving it a squeeze.
On occasion, your husband-to-be had the tendency to get caught up in kissing—Javi loved kissing, so when he pulled you forward by your backside, your arms went around his neck for balance, and you welcomed his tongue when it pressed between your lips. His palms slid up your sides to rest on your ribs as he plundered your mouth, your heart hammering in your chest, feeling slick coating your inner thighs.
The needy ache in your core got worse and worse with every passing minute, finally getting to the point where you had to get him inside you, or there was a chance you were going to combust from the pent-up tension.
You broke away, his lips chasing yours.
“I need you,” you panted.
His eyes met yours, his pupils blown so wide that only a thin sliver of chocolate brown remained.
“Okay,” he said through heavy breaths with a nod. “I’ve got you, baby. Stand up.”
You did as he said, watching as he spit on his fingers and rubbed the saliva onto his cock, doing it a couple of times until his entire length glistened in the bright overhead light.
Once satisfied, his hands were on your upper thighs as he helped you get one leg over his onto the ground beside the chair, then the other to have you standing on either side of him and straddling his hips. Not wasting any more time, you reached between your legs, guiding him to your entrance, and slowly lowered. That first stretch always stole your breath, resting your arms on his freckled shoulders, one of his going around your back to bring you flush to his front, his free hand skating down your back to grip one plump cheek of your ass.
Javi’s eyes had squeezed shut, his breath hitching, feeling how your walls were having to make space for the girth of him and relishing the slight burn from the lack of foreplay. He wasn’t even halfway in, and you rose until only the tip remained, dropping again to take a little more, doing the same thing over and over, taking more of him each time until he was fully seated inside you.
The familiar fullness made you smile, a deep sigh leaving you at how good it felt. Your skin was buzzing just below the surface, your body hot all over, sweat beginning to form on your brow, and you were in heaven.
His face was against your collarbone, his warm breath hitting your skin. “You feel so fucking good,” his voice was muffled, the hand on your ass tightening. “Fuck, te amo (I love you). No sé cuánto tiempo voy a durar (I don’t know how long I'll last). Úsame para hacerte venir (Use me to make yourself come). Úsame, por favor (Use me, please). ¿Puedes hacer eso por mí, Cielito (Can you do that for me, Cielito)? ¿Puedes hacerte sentir bien (Can you make yourself feel good)?”
“Sí (Yes),” you answered. “Sí, Papí (Yes, Papí).”
His chest rumbled under you from his groan, a hand coming down on your ass in a sharp slap that made you clench around him.
“Monta me (Ride me),” he ordered, smacking your backside again. “Monta me duro, mi amor (Ride me hard, my love).”
Grabbing the hair at the back of his head, you pulled on it as you straightened your spine to make him look at you, his eyes heavy-lidded when they blinked open, while yours narrowed in a glare.
“Javier, stop smacking my ass,” you hissed. “We have to be quiet, and you better make sure I don’t get too loud.”
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed.
“Lo siento, cariño (I’m sorry, sweetheart).” His warm hands rubbed along the sides of your spine. “Prometo, estar más callado y evitar que hagas mucho ruido (I promise, I will be quieter and keep you from making too much noise).”
“Thank you,” you replied, pushing his hair back from his face. Leaning in close, you gave him a gentle peck on his lips and the tip of his nose. “If you come before me, it’s fine—it would probably take me with you, anyway.”
“Fuck,” he breathed, feeling him twitch inside you. “With how you’re soaking my dick, I think you’ll get off pretty fucking fast.”
“Probably.” You shrugged and started rolling your hips, watching in delight as his mouth fell open in a moan and his body shuddered.
His arm wrapped around your waist, the other hand holding your jaw, keeping his eyes locked on yours, your own arm over his shoulder, and free hand caressing the side of his face. Both of you were sharing in the pleasure, your bodies fitting together so perfectly like two puzzle pieces, breathing each other in, losing yourselves in this moment.
He wanted you to use him to make yourself feel good, so you did.
Standing made it easy to rise on your legs, sliding up his hard cock to leave only the head and fall back down, thrusting your hips forward on the downstroke to take him to the hilt and make him raggedly groan.
Heat was blooming in your belly, getting hotter with every second you worked yourself on his dick. He pulled you in for a kiss, and you slowed to a grind, the rough curls at the base of his cock rubbing deliciously against the swollen bud of your clit, adding gasoline to the fire inside you.
Like this, he was in so deep you were sure you could probably feel him if you pressed on your stomach, and you knew if he knew that, he’d be a smug bastard about it, which was valid.
You started moving again, the kissing becoming sporadic as you rode him in earnest, your arousal spilling down his shaft to coat his balls. His fingers were digging into the cheeks of your ass, his arms flexing as he gave you momentum and helped you move.
The two of you were trying your best to stay quiet and hold back your sounds, Javi’s face flushed and forehead wet with sweat, both unable to keep some noise from slipping out. The loudest sound was between your legs, hearing the wet suck of your slick gushing around him when his dick pushed into your drenched hole.
Something about fucking in places where there was a chance of getting caught really turned you and him on. Add in, you were told without explicitly being told you weren’t allowed to have sex here, and the higher risk had you rocketing toward your orgasm—Javi was right; you were going to get off quick.
His hands went to your tits, his thick fingers zeroing in on your pebbled nipples, pinching and rolling them before his mouth's hot, wet heat pulled one stiff peak into his mouth.
“God, yes,” you moaned, pleasure shooting directly to your cunt as you bounced on his thick cock.
The muscles in your belly were tightening, adjusting your hips so every time you sunk down, he was pressing into that one spot that dotted your vision with stars, his mouth giving your other breast the same treatment.
This all felt amazing, but there was something you needed…
“Touch me,” you panted, rising and falling in his lap.
His head popped up, glazed over eyes looking at your face.
“Anywhere?” he breathily asked, and the question made you stifle a moan.
“Yes.”
“I’ll get you there.” And you had no doubt.
He started with tweaking your wet nipple, roughly pinching it, his other hand going between your bodies to rub his thumb against your sensitive clit, the sensations feeling like electricity arcing up your spine, making your rhythm stutter for a moment—the heat in your stomach was growing and getting hotter, the closer you were to your climax.
“Hang onto my neck,” he told you.
“What?”
“Lean forward and hold onto my neck.”
You did as he said, pressing into his front and hanging onto him.
His hand on your breast moved to cup your bottom, and he adjusted in the seat, grunting as he sat up, the chair creaking beneath him. Your tempo slowed while he continued circling your bundle of nerves with one hand, his other arm reaching around your thigh to spread two fingers around where his cock was impaling you, feeling how he was stretching you open.
“Your tight little pussy takes my dick so well,” he spoke into your breasts with how you were raised up on your feet, his cock halfway inside you. “I swear I was fucking made for you.”
A moan slipped from your lips unbidden when those same fingers slid through the abundance of your slick on his length and continued up, swiping along the edges of your puckered hole, causing sparks to dance in your center. One thick finger slowly pushed into the tight ring of muscle to the first knuckle, your eyes rolling back in your head and toes curling at the added fullness, biting your lip to keep yourself from making any noise. You worked yourself faster on his dick, tilting your pelvis so he was pressing into all of the right spots, his digit fucking in and out of you at the same pace, it all making you go dizzy with pleasure.
Your inner walls were fluttering.
“Come on, baby,” he rasped, not stopping what he was doing. “Once you come, I’m gonna fill you up.” His head lifted. “Gonna fuck you full of me.” He kissed your clavicle, maintaining your pace. “Stuff you so full of my come, I knock you up.” You whimpered and were almost there. “Isn’t that what you want?” His fingers were still circling your clit and pushing in and out of your asshole, your hips rolling on his cock. “For me to finally get you pregnant?” he asked. “I’ll fuck a baby into you, Cielito, all you have to do is ask.”
And you knew he meant it, the thought entering your mind that you could throw out your birth control today, and odds were he’d have you pregnant by next month—that was what made you crest, sitting all the way down in his lap as you came, your body tensing up tight as euphoria exploded out from your center, spreading through your system. His hand on your front was suddenly over your mouth to smother your loud cry, your body trembling as you slumped into him.
“Good girl,” his words came out thick and rough. “You’re so good to me.”
Your chest was heaving, enjoying the aftershocks and the feel of your cunt spasming around his dick that was still hard inside you.
His hand left your lips to ghost up and down your spine, and he removed the finger from your ass.
“This baby stuff is getting dangerous,” you sounded drunk, slurring your words, your face in the crook of his neck.
“What?”
“Our breeding kinks. You wanna know the thing that fucking got me?”
“Yeah.”
Leaning back to look him in the eyes, you told him, “The thought that if I tossed my birth control today, you’d probably have me pregnant by next month.” His cock jerked hard inside you. “I got off on you being fucking virile.”
His eyes were practically black, licking his lips before he spoke. “We, uh—” He cleared his throat. “—we, uh, could test your theory…?” The hope was there on his face, and it made you feel like utter shit to have to deny him of his dream. This man wanted to be a father so fucking bad, and you more than wanted to make him one. It just wasn’t feasible at this point in time.
You held his face in your hands, stroking your thumbs over his cheeks.
“Javi, I love you,” you started. “I want to have all of your babies, but as we both know, the apartment is too small for us and a baby. There’s also the whole I want us to be married thing, too.”
“Pop said we can move in with him while the house is being built, and we’ll be married before a baby is born.” He sounded very sure of himself.
Your eyebrow lifted. “How are you so positive we’ll be married in less than ten months?”
He smiled. “Because you pre-accepted my proposal and told me you didn’t want a big wedding.”
That was something you told him.
Standing in front of a giant room full of people you actually only knew a fraction of and being the center of attention sounded like a literal nightmare scenario. A tiny wedding with only close friends and family in attendance was something more your speed—hell, eloping seemed like a goddamn dream.
It hit you then the possibility of how soon the two of you could be married, and excitement bubbled up inside you, doing the first thing that came to mind and kissing him deeply, cradling his smooth cheeks in your palms. His lips were soft and plush, his tongue delving into your mouth with a moan, it turning into one of those kisses that drove you wild.
You needed to make him feel good. You needed him to feel your love and happiness.
His dick was still throbbing in your pussy, and you started rolling your hips, his hands cupping your backside, keeping you in charge of the rhythm while he assisted in your movements.
The way he liked it when you were on top was for you to go hard and fast, so you lifted and slammed back down in quick succession. It was slippery between your thighs, his cock sliding easily in and out of your wet heat, the kisses turning messy with how you were moving on him.
In this position with both of you sitting up, you could get him to come pretty quickly if you sloppily made out with him and occasionally clenched your cunt around his cock; he’d say that was playing dirty if this was a regular romp, but under current circumstances, they were legal maneuvers like how he toyed with your clit and put a finger in your ass. These were all finishing moves that generally only came into play during quickies, though, when he was in the mood to make you come multiple times, he was liberal in their usage—and every time you were about to utilize a move, the fatality screen from Mortal Kombat came to mind, hearing in your brain the announcer say, “Finish Him.”
His eyebrows were knitted together, and his eyes were closed, the effort he was putting into being quiet causing pitiful whines to escape his throat. He was tense beneath you, every muscle in his body pulled taut like a bowstring close to snapping, and you knew he was almost there, clenching up around him on your downstrokes.
“‘M close,” he murmured, his fingers digging into the soft flesh of your behind and spreading your cheeks while helping you rise and fall.
“Yeah?” you replied through heavy breaths. “I want you to come for me, Javi.” Your kiss landed on the side of his mouth. “I love you.” This kiss made it onto his lips. “I want to marry you, have your children, and spend the rest of my life with you.”
He pressed his face into your chest, kissing what he could while you moved up and down—over the tops of your breasts, along your collarbones, up the line of your throat; all the while, he was saying against your skin, “Te amo (I love you). Me voy a casar contigo (I’m going to marry you). Te voy a dar todos los hijos que quieras (I will give you as many children as you want). Voy a pasar el resto de mi vida contigo (I’m going to spend the rest of my life with you). Fuck, te sientes tan bien (you feel so good). Eres perfecta (You’re perfect). No puedo esperar a verte embarazada (I can’t wait to see you pregnant).”
“Embarazada con tu bebé (Pregnant with your baby),” you panted.
A strangled noise came from him, shoving his face in your neck to mute it as he pulled you down to completely bury himself inside you. His teeth sunk into the spot where your neck met your shoulder, and you hissed at the pleasurable pain; his dick thickened, feeling it jerk, and the familiar wet pulse of spurts and spurts of his come gushing deep in your depths to fill you.
You ran your fingers through his sweat-damp hair, his heaving breaths hot against your skin as he soothed over the bite with kisses, your own chest rising and falling rapidly, his arms hugging you close to him.
The solutions he had so you could have a baby were rolling around in your head, and you wondered if it really would be that easy.
Chucho would be over the goddamn moon if you guys temporarily moved in with him, and then a baby on top of that? His first nieto (grandchild)? The thing he constantly brought up? Chucho wanted to be a grandfather just as bad as Javi wanted to be a dad, and you knew he’d do anything for you both.
Why were nerves fluttering around in your belly? You should be ecstatic, but there was a voice in your brain that sounded a lot like your mother pointing out you haven’t even been together a year. For all intents and purposes, you were still in the honeymoon stage of your relationship, and that’d have to end at some point. Would you both still feel the same after a year has passed? Two? Five? Ten? Would he still be as attracted to you after your body changed from pregnancy?
These questions were stressing you out.
“Javi?”
He hummed in reply.
“You know how you feel about me right now. Do you think you’ll still feel that way in a year?”
His head came up with his eyebrows pulled together.
“Yeah?” he answered.
“What about in two years?”
He was giving you a look like the answer was obvious.
“Cielito, I’m gonna love you like this for the rest of my fucking life.”
Your voice was small, “How can you be sure?”
His hands had started rubbing comforting circles on your hips, looking at you with a tender gaze.
“I’m my father’s kid,” he said, “and when we find the person meant for us, that’s it; it’s game over. We dedicate our lives to them, and we love them so fucking deeply we feel it in our souls—this is going to sound stupid, but Pop says we’re penguins.”
“Penguins?”
“Yeah, he watched some nature documentary and found out they mate for life—we’re penguins.”
It made you grin. “That is the absolute cutest shit I have ever heard.”
He smiled. “I knew you’d like it. Does that make you feel better?”
“Yes,” you answered truthfully. “We’re mated for life.”
“Yeah, we are, and I know it’s not gonna be all sunshine and rainbows. We’ll have our ups and downs like all couples do, but there’s no one else I’d rather go through the good and bad with.” The look on his face changed to something unsure. “Do you, uh, think your feelings will change?”
“I don’t think so. My love for you is so embedded inside me that it sometimes feels like you’ve always been with me, and I just didn’t know. So, I think I’m a penguin, too.”
He chuckled, leaning in to sweetly kiss you. When his lips left yours, he nuzzled your face.
“Anything else you need reassurance about?” he gently asked with his nose sliding along yours.
“Um, the other thing was if you’d still be attracted to my body post-pregnancy…”
A thing you loved about Javi was how you could basically tell what he was thinking from the expression on his face, and right this second, as he stared at you, he was trying to work out how to politely tell you it was stupid to think he’d find you unattractive after having his baby.
“Are you talking about the body that grew our baby and kept them safe for nine months?” he asked, and yeah, you realized now how dumb it was to think something so absurd. “Yeah, I’m still gonna be attracted to you,” he continued, “the woman I love, who made me a father. I’m not gonna care about stretch marks or if you put on weight or any of the other shit that’ll change. You did something fucking incredible, and honestly, it makes me hard thinking about you being pregnant, so if there are things to remind me of that, I’m probably gonna be all over you constantly. Feel better?”
That eased your worries.
“Much.” You gave him a quick peck on the lips. “Thank you. Now, let’s go take a shower.” You started to move, and he stopped you.
Hope was swirling in his eyes. “Is this a yes to a baby?”
“This is a maybe on the baby, and we will need to have a long discussion with your father.”
The smile he gave you was so blinding, you were sure it outshined the sun, a joyous laugh coming from him as he hugged you into his arms and squeezed you tight.
“I’m so fucking happy.” The emotion was heavy in his voice. “Thank you so much.” He sniffled in your ear.
Your hands slid over his back. “Don’t thank me yet. It’s not set in stone.”
He pulled back, his eyes rimmed red, tears falling down his cheeks.
“No,” he replied. “Thank you for loving me and being with me and wanting to have kids with me. I know it’s not a sure thing, but it’s the fact there’s a chance.” His voice cracked when he said the last word, his shoulders shaking.
“Oh, babe.” You wrapped your arms around him and held him close to your body.
This reaction for a maybe made you want to throw all caution to the wind and say fuck it, and just start trying, the rational part of your brain telling you to cool your jets. It was an angel and demon on your shoulders situation, with you leaning toward the baby, and it wasn’t going to help that the two of you would be around children for the next few days.
The way Javi interacted with Stevie? Almost killed you. He was so sweet, and the child clearly loved him so much it had your ovaries aching. Three days, you were going to have to watch him with the Murphy kids, and you weren’t sure if you were going to survive or keep from throwing your birth control in the trash.
You had to be strong.
Tumblr media
Javier knew this trip would be important since he was bringing his wif-girlfriend to meet his best friend’s family. He just didn’t expect also to get the news they might be able to start trying for a baby sooner than they had planned.
Don’t get him wrong, he was excited about having their house built and getting to have a say in the design, but they were looking at twelve to fourteen months before it’d be ready to move into, and he did not want to wait that long to start their family—he was feeling… impatient. He’d already wasted enough of his life, and with him turning fucking forty on Sunday, he’d been plagued with thoughts of how many years he had left above ground.
A couple of weeks ago, his therapist told him he was having a mid-life crisis, which he scoffed at because he sure as hell wasn’t buying some expensive sports car or chasing women half his age—he outright owned his dependable truck and was more than happy in his amazing and healthy relationship with a woman slightly younger than him. Then the therapist went for his jugular over why he’d begun wrestling with feelings of his mortality and how it started with him planning their trip to Miami and thinking about the Murphys and Cielito. What it boiled down to was he regretted the time he lost to his job and now felt unfulfilled that, at his age, he didn’t have a family of his own like Steve.
The guy was right, and it annoyed him.
It gave him a swift kick in the ass to figure out some things, though.
Like how he went out to his dad’s last Tuesday after work to have a beer with him and ask if he was serious about them living with him if they were ever expecting and their home was still under construction—he said yes, and told Javier when Cielito eventually got pregnant he was planning to turn the guest bedroom into a nursery anyway.
There was also the ring box he rolled up in a pair of socks tucked away at the bottom of the duffle bag he brought.
He was ready to make some big changes, and by the end of this trip, he hoped more than anything he’d have a fiancée.
After he got all of his happy tears out, they kissed and got off of the chair to take a shower, stopping on the way for her to grab her toiletry bag from her luggage.
They washed each other and stole kisses, his hands wandering over her soapy skin with her giggles echoing in the stall. It didn’t take them very long to finish, going through their after-shower routines to get dry and do their hair. They changed into clean clothes, and he put on a lavender-colored button-up and some jeans, his eyes glued to her ass in the high-waisted denim shorts she was wearing as she bent over to put on her socks. He found himself closing the distance in two long strides to grab her hips, carefully bumping and rubbing the front of his pants against her backside.
“Are you seriously humping me while I put on my socks?”
He frowned. “I’m not humping you. You’d know if I was humping you.”
“Fine. Are you seriously grinding on me while I put on my socks?”
“Maybe…”
She finished what she was doing, her socked feet planted on the floor, standing back up and turning in his arms.
There was an exasperated look on her face as she smiled. “You’re so fucking ridiculous.” Her arms went around his neck.
“They’re nice shorts,” he replied, making her laugh when he grabbed handfuls of her ass.
“Well, you’ll be excited to know I only brought shorts and leggings.”
He smirked. “I’m very excited about that.”
“Good. Have we been in here long enough that they’ll believe we showered and napped?”
Checking his watch, he answered, “We’ve been in here about an hour, so I think we’re in the clear.”
The look on her face shifted to something nervous.
“Do you think we made too much noise?”
For her comfort, he slid his hands up and down her sides.
He’d never lie to her, so he told her the truth. “They’re on the opposite side of the house, and between them and us is their master bathroom that’s on the other side of that wall—” He pointed at the wall next to the door to the guest room’s en suite. “—then their walk-in closet, their big fucking bedroom, and finally you’d end up in the kitchen. Unless they used their bathroom or came down the hall to check on the boys, which I doubt because they have the baby monitors, I don’t think they heard anything.”
“You’re sure?”
The smile on his face was reassuring. “Yes. I’m not lying, Cielito.”
She let out a breath, and her body seemed to relax. “Okay, fingers crossed they didn’t hear anything. Let’s head out there.”
“Bésame antes de irnos, por favor (Kiss me before we go, please),” he said, puckering his lips.
“So polite.” She leaned in to kiss him.
When they separated, he took her hand, leading her out to find his friends.
They found Steve in the actual living room they used at the back of the house, having to walk through the kitchen and dining room to get to it. There was a massive brown leather sofa in the middle of the room, Steve’s recliner next to it, a coffee table, and a decent-sized television in their entertainment center against the wall in front of the couch that had an abundance of VHS movies aimed towards children, and it looked like Connie had cleaned up after the boys, all of their toys put away in their toy box or back in their designated spots in the part of space designated for the kids.
Walking in, they were behind the sofa, seeing Steve was watching ESPN and the highlights of a basketball game from the previous night between the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic, a beer held in his hand.
His head turned toward them, his lips turning up in a shit-eating grin. “How’d y'all sleep on the bed?”
Javier’s eyes narrowed. “Like babies.”
Cielito moved to stand beside him in his friend’s view.
Steve sputtered into laughter, and Javier frowned at the sudden outburst. “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me!” the other man finally said. “Matching shirts?” He looked over at his future wife and her V-neck that was the same lavender color as his, he matched out of habit—all the shirts he brought had counterparts to what she had in her luggage. It was their thing. His friend wiped at his eyes. “Who are you, and what have you done with my asshole of a best friend?”
“I don’t see what the big deal is about us matching,” he replied, crossing his arms. “So what if we like to look good together? Where’s Connie?”
“Doing laundry.” He nodded toward the door that led to the laundry room, and as if she were summoned, it opened, and she came in holding a large basket full of clothes against her hip with one arm.
“Oh, great!” she exclaimed. “You’re up!” She paused after shutting the door. “Be honest with me, how bad is the bed? If you can’t sleep on it, I’ll pull out the air mattress.”
Just the thought of sleeping on an air mattress made Javier’s body ache.
“It’s pretty squeaky,” Cielito answered. “But we’ll survive. It’s seriously okay.” She waved away the concern.
“If you’re sure.”
Sounds started coming from the baby monitors on the coffee table, Stevie and Nate both in their separate bedrooms calling for their mom.
“Oh,” Connie said. “Looks like the boys are up. I’ll go put the laundry in our bedroom and get them.”
“Don’t worry about it, Connie,” Javier told her. “I’ll get them.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” he replied. “It’s not a problem.” His head turned to the woman next to him. “Do you want to come with me or stay out here?”
She smiled at him. “I’m sure you can use an extra set of hands—I’ll come with.”
He nodded with a matching look, taking her hand once more and guiding her back to the hallway where the bedrooms were located.
First, they stopped in Nate’s room, finding the tiny boy standing at the railing of his crib, crying for his mom.
“Oh, mi precioso (my precious),” Javier cooed, quickly making his way over and scooping the child up. He held him on his hip, bouncing a little while rubbing his back. “You’re okay, buddy. Shhh, you’re okay. We’ll go see your mom in just a minute.” Turning to look at Cielito, she had a soft expression on her face. “Baby?” She was just staring, and it made him grin. “Mi amor (My love)?”
She visibly jolted. “Sorry. Yes. Did you say something?”
“Was trying to get your attention. I need to change his diaper. Do you wanna go get Stevie?”
“I can get Stevie, yes,” she answered, nodding. “Be right back.” Immediately, she turned and left the room.
Nate had calmed down and wasn’t crying anymore, murmuring mom over and over again with his hand in his mouth.
“That was your tía (aunt),” he informed the little one as he walked him over to the changing table. “I know you can keep a secret,” he whispered, laying the child on the cushioned top. “I’m gonna propose to her tomorrow.” Grabbing a clean diaper and the wipes from the shelf underneath, he went about changing the toddler. “I figured out how I’m gonna do it last weekend,” he continued talking, his hands working. “So, she’s gonna be your tía, and hopefully soon you’ll have some primos (cousins).” He tossed the dirty diaper into the lidded bin he opened with the foot pedal, the kid now in a clean one as Javier buttoned back up his turquoise onesie with a sleeping long-eared, white, spotted dog on it.
“Who’s that?” Came his soon-to-be fiancée’s voice from the doorway. He turned his head to see her holding the other boy in her arm while she pointed at him with a smile.
“Tío!” Stevie shouted, grinning. “Tío and Nate!”
Javier picked up the younger of the two children and smiled.
“That’s right, buddy,” he said, turning toward them. “Who’s holding you?”
The three-year-old pressed his finger against Cielito’s chest. “Tía!”
“Good job!” He was close to them now, affectionately ruffling the kid’s dirty blonde hair with his hand and making him laugh. “You’re so smart.”
Stevie held out his arms to Javier, and he quickly took him in his free arm, both boys sitting comfortably on each of his hips.
“Oh, no,” his future wife breathed, staring at him with wide eyes.
Concern was etched on his brow. “What?”
“My ovaries feel like they’re gonna explode.”
“Is that a bad thing…?” He wasn’t sure.
“For my self-control? Yes. For you getting that thing you want really bad? No.”
“What thing do I want…?”
Her answer was to point at Nate, and his heartbeat stuttered, sucking in a breath.
This meant she really was contemplating them not waiting to have a baby, and it made hope swell in his chest. He didn’t want to be an asshole and deliberately wear down her resolve. Still, he also couldn’t control how he usually interacted with the Murphy kids, which apparently was getting to her—it made him happy that she was so affected by him being great with the children. He was beginning to think this trip was going to show her that he’d be a decent father.
He didn’t have a chance to respond, hearing from down the hall in the living room, Olivia shouting, “Is he here?!”
She must’ve just gotten home from school.
“Sissy’s home!” Stevie exclaimed.
“It sounds like she is,” Javier replied. “Let’s go see her.” He looked at Cielito. “Ready to meet the oldest?”
“Yep.”
Running footsteps could be heard as they made their way out of the room, his wif-girlfriend behind him on their journey toward the sound of voices. The young girl seemed to have run to where her father was in the living room because she came speeding back through the dining room that connected it to the front sitting area and finally found them.
“Tío!” Olivia had a big grin, missing a couple of baby teeth in the front, throwing her arms around his middle when she reached him, hugging him hard.
“Hola, mi sobrina (Hi, my niece). Lo siento, no tengo brazos para abrazarte en este momento (I’m sorry, I don’t have arms to hug you right now).”
Steve and Connie felt that Olivia should learn Spanish and had enrolled her in after-school classes for it since she first started going to school. Her dad’s Spanish was shit, and her mom’s wasn’t much better, so any time she needed help with homework she’d call Javier.
“Está bien (It’s okay). Estoy feliz que estás aquí (I’m happy you’re here).”
Connie was walking up, having come from the kitchen. Nate immediately reached toward her and chanted Mom.
“I’m here, baby,” she said, taking him from Javier and returning to where she’d been.
With a hand free, he patted Olivia’s back.
“Hi, Sissy!” Stevie greeted.
“Hi, Stevie,” she replied.
“¿Cómo te fue en la escuela (How was school)?” Javier asked the nine-year-old.
She let go of him to look up and meet his eyes.
“Bien (Good). Aprendí sobre (I learned about), ¿cómo se dice dinosaurs (how do you say dinosaurs)?”
“Los dinosaurios. ¿Qué te enseñaban sobre los dinosaurios (What did they teach you about dinosaurs)?”
“Oh, my teacher wasn’t teaching us about dinosaurs today,” she said, switching to English. “I don’t know what she was teaching.” The girl shrugged. “I was too busy reading this book I got in the library about dinosaurs.”
He smiled.
“Which dinosaur is your favorite?”
“Triceratops! They could take on T-Rexes. I want to look for dinosaur fossils when I’m older!”
“You want to be a paleontologist?”
She looked confused. “What’s a pale—a palien-tol-gist?”
“Paleontologist,” he said slower. “They’re scientists who study fossils.”
“Yes, I want to do that!” She nodded enthusiastically.
“Sissy!” Stevie loudly called, bouncing in Javier’s hold. “Sissy!”
“Yes, Stevie?”
“Tía’s gonna make cookies with me!”
Confusion was on her face again. “Tía?”
It made him realize he hadn’t introduced the young girl to his other half.
“Yes, your tía,” Javier told her and moved the toddler from one arm to the other so he could wrap the free one around Cielito’s waist. “Olivia, I want you to meet the woman I’ve told you about who I’m gonna marry.” He introduced her to Cielito.
“Oh! Cielito!” She looked over at the older woman. “Hi!” She waved.
Cielito was smiling. “Hi,” she replied. “It’s nice to meet you, Olivia.”
“It’s nice to meet you, too. I wanna make cookies! What kind?”
“Chocolate chip.”
“My favorite!”
“Mine, too.”
“Cookies!” Stevie shouted, making Javier snort and his future wife giggle.
“Better head to the kitchen,” Javier said.
“Yeah,” Cielito responded. “Let’s all go make cookies. You too, Olivia.”
“Yes!” The girl did little jumps of excitement.
In the kitchen, they found the ingredients for the cookies waiting for them on the counter, Connie having already gotten them out along with measuring cups and spoons, a large bowl, and an electric hand mixer. Hands were washed, including Stevie’s, who had a little stool to stand on so he could help as well as a toddler could.
Cielito entranced the children as she walked them through step by step how to make the cookie dough, and Javier left the room for only a minute to run to the bedroom and grab his camera.
She had Stevie in front of her on the stool, holding the toddler’s little hand to help him scoop the flour and sugar into the bowl, and Olivia next to her. She showed the young girl how to crack the eggs, and when they got to adding the chocolate chips, they all took handfuls to snack on—and through it all, Javier took pictures, getting candids of them laughing and others where he asked them to look and smile at him, Stevie always grinning big and saying cheese.
Baking with a three-year-old was chaotic with how he wanted to touch and get into everything, but Cielito handled it like a champ and had the patience of a saint.
It all had him thinking about their future, easily picturing her doing this same thing with their own kids. It reminded him of how some of his favorite memories growing up were cooking with his mom, and it made his eyes burn that his children would get to have similar experiences.
What he has known, and was being proven right, was he’s found his perfect match and the person he was supposed to spend his life with.
From the moment he met her, there was something about her, some kind of pull—he was drawn to her like a moth to a flame, and as he got to know her, she engulfed him, and he fell hard. After their first date, on his drive home, he experienced something new: he imagined what his future would look like with her in it. A lifetime played out in his mind of them dating, getting engaged, married, buying a house, getting a dog, and he’d never felt so much hope before.
He didn’t think he had a chance in hell to make it a reality. He was positive he’d fuck it up before the third date.
By some miracle, he didn’t.
When he thought about those first few dates, the second was when he fell in love with her—that was when he knew she was it. By the third date, he knew he was going to marry her.
A thing about Javier was when he put his mind to something, he got it done, and he didn’t like to waste time—this evidently also included relationships. He fucked up when he said he’d propose on their anniversary because there was no way he was going to be able to wait that long—and he cracked quicker than an egg hitting a wall.
How could he not when she was so perfect?
Life was dull before her, empty; he always felt like something was missing. She was what was missing, filling that space inside him, turning everything vibrant and lively. There were an infinite number of ways their lives could’ve played out, and he knew in every single one the path he chose would always lead him back to her—they were meant to find each other.
His love for her burned brighter than the brightest star in the night sky, and she was a part of him now—he could feel her burrowed deep down in his bones to the point there was no him without her any longer. She was his first and the only love of his life; there was no one before, and there wouldn’t be anyone after because she was the one for him.
And when he held her, he held the entire world in his arms.
She was his world.
She was everything.
And in less than twenty-four hours, she would hopefully say yes when he asked a particular question while holding a ring.
Until then, he’d try to stay calm while watching her interact with his friend’s kids and ignore how his chest was filled with so much happiness he thought it might burst. These glimpses of what she’ll be like as a mother were driving him crazy, and it was taking everything in him not to haul her back to the bedroom and show her how much he loved it—they couldn’t, anyway, with the kids wanting to spend time with them and the damn bed. Fucking Steve.
He didn’t want to rile himself up, so he’d do his best to avoid thinking about her being the mother of his children or how earlier she said maybe to a baby.
Who was he kidding? It was all he could think about, and he was dying to get her alone.

Tinsel, Gold and Dragons
(modern au!)
pairings: rhaenyra targaryen x fem! reader, past rhaenyra x alicent
tw: kissing, alicent bashing, alcohol consumption, talk about hooking up, hatred of the holiday season??
description: You were wondering how the hell this family had so many attractive people. Rhaenyra’s brain was currently not computing, she was pretty sure this was called bisexual panic but it had never really happened to her in real life before.
a/n: hiii hope you enjoy this little fic i randomly wrote last night. i've been kind of missing just writing stuff that isn't requests so hopefully this is still ok haha. ALSO i'm 100% an alicent defender, she's the loml so just remember that a lot of this is from rhaenyra's pov and not my own thoughts about her character. anyways hope you enjoy this and happy holidays <3 (might write a part 2 at some point but who knows?)
Tumblr media
Rhaenyra Targaryen never liked the holiday season. After her mother died things just got worse and the boring parties she was always subjected to only got more boring. The welcome reprieve of baking gingerbread in the kitchen with her mom was gone in seconds and now holidays just reminded her of everything she had lost.
This year’s party was going to be the worst one by a long shot. Rhaenyra had to deal with Alicent fucking Hightower - oh sorry Targaryen now… that was something she still hadn’t accepted. I mean how do you even cope when your best friend suddenly starts fucking your dad in secret, gets pregnant, marries him and then proceeds to act like she’s Virgin fucking Mary?
The answer is with a lot of scotch, stupid hookups and long hours studying. She was desperate to get her law degree so she could finally do something and it also meant she could start working at her uncle’s law firm.
Currently though she was stuck in her father’s house whilst her new toddler half-brother threw temper tantrums and broke anything in his vicinity.
It was Christmas Eve and Viserys had nearly decided to cancel the annual Christmas party, in favor of “family bonding” but Alicent had somehow convinced him to keep it on. Rhaenyra did not want to think about what she had done to convince him. She nearly gagged at the mere idea of it.
Smoothing out the material of the dark red dress with a slightly higher slit than what would be considered appropriate, Rhaenyra let out an audible sound of satisfaction. She looked fucking hot. Plus Alicent would freak when she saw it, perfect.
Once upon a time Alicent Hightower had been her best friend, and probably something more but now… all that Rhaenyra could muster up for her is a cold chill of utter hate and rage.
Rhaenyra was thrown out of her thoughts when her phone called out the familiar ringtone that belonged to her uncle.
“Daemon… you do know that people can text now don’t you?”
“Haha, you can call me old all you want but you might regret it when I don’t tell you how I’m about to save you tonight.”
“Please tell me you found a way to make them all die fiery deaths.”
“Nothing as dramatic as that but I assure you it’s still the perfect escape.”
“Are you going to leave me in suspense while I endure this torture or…”
“Fine, you spoiled princess. We’re having a little party at the firm and since you’re coming to work here soon…”
“You didn’t.”
“But I did.”
“Fuck off. You mean I can actually leave this party.”
“I’m surprised you haven’t already.”
“You’re my savior.”
“Knight in shining armor and all that. Just remember to get me a good present this year.”
“When do I ever disappoint you?”
“There is also another surprise waiting for you when you get here.”
“Daemon… what have you done?”
“Nothing. There’s just someone I think you should meet.”
“Oh God, maybe I won’t go.”
“You know you’re too desperate not to, plus she’s your age so you won’t have to deal with boring old men like me.”
“She’s a she?”
Rhaenyra perked up, she hadn’t had a date in a while and ever since Alicent she hadn’t even tried to step her foot back into that pool. A string of meaningless hookups with men had done nothing to quell the heartbreak side of the whole situation. This would probably be good for her.
“Yes. So I guess that means you’re coming?”
“Obviously.”
“Should I send a car over?”
“Don’t bother, I’ll just drive Syrax.” Syrax was a birthday present from Daemon, a beautiful and subtly gold car that drove like a dream.
“Ok, see you soon Nyra.”
“Bye, Uncle.”
Tumblr media
Rhaenyra sped through the streets of King’s Landing in the comfortable leather seat of her car. The bright Christmas lights that adorned the shops made a bright smile appear on her face. She may hate the holidays but at least the lights and food were incredible.
She arrived at the tall building that held Caraxes, Daemon’s law firm and named after his first dog but no one needed to know that. She gave her name to the security guard before parking the car in one of the empty spaces.
Her red dress fluttered in the cold breeze as she waited for the elevator to open. The firm was located on the 60th floor, the penthouse. Rhaenyra always loved being up high so the height was never a problem. What was annoying was how long it took her to actually get up there.
When the elevator doors finally opened at the correct floor, loud Christmas music echoed through the floor and she could clearly hear cheers coming from the area close to Daemon’s office.
Since the secretary was nowhere to be seen, Rhaenyra walked the now familiar route towards her uncle’s office. Weaving through a variety of cubicles she found a large Christmas tree and a small bar had been set up outside her uncle’s office.
“NYRA!” A loud voice that corresponded to her uncle slurred out and his tall frame ambled towards her. Within moments she was suddenly caught in a warm embrace and she returned the hug with her smaller arms wrapping around his torso.
“When did you have time to get this drunk, uncle?” Rhaenyra asked when they finally parted.
“Oh you think this is drunk, darling. Don’t you remember me at that New Year’s-”
“Andddd I’m going to stop you right there. I still get trauma flashbacks.”
“I must say, you look absolutely stunning Nyra. I’m sure our dear Alicent flipped when she saw you.”
“You should have seen her face when I told her I was going to unfortunately not attend her party.” Rhaenyra and Daemon shared a laugh before Daemon spotted someone in the crowd and a smirk appeared on his face.
“Y/N! I have someone you should meet.”
Rhaenyra followed Daemon’s line of sight and found the most beautiful woman she had probably ever seen. You were wearing a dark blue floor length dress which was held up with spaghetti straps. A pashmina scarf looped around your elbows and you had a smile on your face as you approached the two of them.
“You summoned me?” You asked when you finished weaving through the sea of people.
“Well yes, I wanted you to meet my niece. Rhaenyra this is Y/N, our newest and most promising associate.”
“Pleasure to meet you.” You said as you offered a hand to the stunning silver haired woman. You were wondering how the hell this family had so many attractive people. Rhaenyra’s brain was currently not computing, she was pretty sure this was called bisexual panic but it had never really happened to her in real life before.
“I-uh, nice to meet you too.” Rhaenyra stuttered out as she took Y/N’s hand and shook it.
“Well I’ll leave you two to it.” Daemon said with a conspiring tone in his voice before he disappeared into the crowd.
“So… Daemon’s been singing your merits all over the office for a while now so I think I have an unfair advantage here.”
“Oh God, what has he been saying?” Rhaenyra groaned out as she dramatically swept a hand over her hair.
“Nothing bad, I promise. You’re getting your law degree at The Citadel, right?”
“Yup.”
“How’s that? I was debating going there for a while but ended up going to Oxford instead.”
“It's hell but worth it, I hope.”
“I totally get that, Oxford was like medieval torture but I’m happy it landed me in this place.” You said as you swept a hand in the direction of the office space.
“Wait, how old are you?” Rhaenyra suddenly asked before her face contorted in embarrassment. “Shit, that was rude, sorry.”
“Ha don’t worry, I get that all the time. I’m 25.”
“24.” Rhaenyra offered back in solidarity.
“We’re basically the same age then.” You said with a wink before you took a sip of the amber liquid in the glass tumbler.
“Probably why Daemon shoved us in this little corner together.”
“I’m for one glad to be stuck in this little corner with you.” You said as you smirked in Rhaenyra’s direction. A light blush started to dust Rhaenyra’s cheeks.
“I’m glad too, but I’m desperate for a drink. This week has been hell.”
“You don’t like the holidays either?”
“Hate them.”
“We have something else in common after all.”
You spent the rest of the party sitting next to Rhaenyra in Daemon’s office. You drank sparingly, not wanting to be drunk since Rhaenyra needed to drive back and you didn’t want to act like a fool in front of her.
Rhaenyra felt like this was the first time in years that she felt truly happy. It was nice just to talk and gossip and be free to actually be herself. With Alicent it felt like she was walking on eggshells before the incident and now it was near impossible to be in the same room alone with her. But with Y/N…
At first, Rhaenyra went into this wanting just to have a quick hookup but those hours spent talking or maybe it was the alcohol that got to her head but she decided she deserved something better. She deserved someone better.
“Do you need a ride home?” Rhaenyra asked when people started to mill out of the party. Y/N turned to her in surprise before a gentle smile lit up her face.
“It wouldn’t be any trouble?”
“Not at all, but don’t think this is some kind of selfless act - maybe I just want to spend more time with you.”
“Well, we just have to indulge in your selfish desires don’t we?” You said with a twinkle in your eyes and a laugh on your tongue.
“You have no idea the scope of my selfish desires.”
“I would like to find out…”
Rhaenyra basically dragged you down to her car after that little remark. As she drove through the streets of King’s Landing, you took a leap of blind faith (or maybe love) by gripping the hand that lay between the two of you. Rhaenyra instantly threaded her fingers through yours and you spied a small smile making its way to her face.
Once she pulled up in front of your apartment building Rhaenyra bit her lip and turned to look at you - still completely in awe of how pretty you are.
“We arrived.”
“That we did.”
“Well…”
“Well… do you uh-”
“Do I what?” Rhaenyra said as she wiggled her eyebrows.
“Rhae… I- do you want to come up?”
“Only if we can have a date tomorrow.”
“It’s Christmas Day.”
“I’ll think of something.”
“Hmm… deal.” You said as a giddy smile graced your lips. Suddenly the feeling of soft lips meeting against yours startled you out of your reverie and you jumped to thread your fingers through her silky hair.
“You are so beautiful.” Rhaenyra mumbled against your lips before slipping her tongue to delicately stroke yours. It seemed impossible that your smile could widen even more but it did.
“Mmm, says you. You fucking goddess.” You said when you both finally pulled away. Panting and grinning like idiots.
“This is certainly turning out to be a very merry Christmas.”
“Ho ho ho.”

I don’t know if this would be of interest to you to write for the AYW universe, but I’m kinda curious about Eddie & Brittany in the early years. Like Eddie’s reaction to becoming a dad for the first time, poor sweet Eddie trying to make things work with Brittany (I’m a sucker for angst, what can I say 🤷‍♀️) just a little insight to how our favourite mechanic was in the beginning
I love the opportunity this gave me to think about Eddie's past, especially in relation to his relationship with Brittany. @munson-blurbs was kind enough to write this with me and she came up with the best possible title for this story: It's Brittany, (The) Bitch
Warnings: childbirth, pre-Reader, Brittany being Brittany
Words: 4.6k
[As You Wish masterlist]
Tumblr media
Eddie pulls his rusted van into the driveway of the small shoebox that currently serves as the Munson residence. He’s been working overtime to help save up for a bigger house, proving difficult with childcare expenses already beginning to pile up despite the fact that the baby won’t arrive for two more weeks.
He takes a deep breath as he kills the engine, preparing himself for the daily crisis; sure enough, he hears Brittany yelling on the phone before he even sees her. It can only be one of a few people that she’s talking to, and he just hopes she’s at least sitting down in a chair and not pacing back and forth.
Eddie lets out a sigh as he steps into the kitchen to find Brittany basically walking laps around the kitchen as far as the phone cord allows, one hand holding the receiver and the other on her 38 week baby bump.
Careful not to interrupt her conversation—if one could even call it that—he clears his throat with a soft ahem. Brittany raises an eyebrow at him in question, to which he responds by nodding his head to the vacant kitchen chair closest to her.
Brittany looks irritated, but takes the seat nonetheless.
“I have told you,” she shouts into the phone as she lowers herself into the chair, “I don’t give a shit what you think Uncle Julian is entitled to, he’s not getting a goddamn dime of Dyeda Alex’s money.”
Eddie long ago learned that it’s all around better for him to stay out of whatever drama Brittany’s family is currently brawling about—and there always is something. If there isn’t, they’ll create it, as evidenced by the Great Cheesecake Battle of 1990.
Eddie presses a kiss to the top of Brittany’s head, and she gives him a small smile as he walks out of the cramped kitchen and down the hall to the bathroom.  He cleans himself up from work, washing motor oil from his palms, and slips back into the kitchen to start preparing dinner. Sometimes Brittany would make it, but Eddie’s been more and more insistent that she stay off her feet lately. Besides, Wednesday evenings mean that Wayne is coming for dinner; there’s something about providing a meal for the man who put his life on hold to raise him that warms Eddie’s heart.  He only wishes that his cooking skills improved with practice, but based on the food he makes never tasting any better, they’re not.
He’s in the middle of tediously peeling potatoes when Brittany pushes herself up out of the chair, waddling over in the direction of the phone base on the wall. “If you tell her that, I swear on all that is holy, I will end you.”
Eddie smiles to himself as he goes back to the potatoes. He very well knows his wife means what she says, and her threat should not be taken lightly.
“Whatever. Bye.” Brittany slams the receiver down on the phone base and lets out an irritated groan.
“So,” Eddie starts off smugly, “how’s the Sobachkin family doing?”
“They’re all assholes,” Brittany mumbles as she walks over to get a water bottle from the fridge, chugging it like she’d just run a marathon.
Your sister is the biggest asshole of all, but you seem to love her, Eddie thinks as he washes off his hands, drying them on a nearby dishtowel.
“How was work?” Brittany asks as she plops herself back in her chair, already relieved to be off of her feet again.
“Okay,” Eddie says with a shrug of his shoulders. “Wish they’d fire Mark, though. He’s more trouble than he’s worth with all of us having to fix his mistakes every time.” Eddie glances over his shoulder and sees Brittany staring at her nails, tuning out his side of the conversation. He sighs and goes back to preparing dinner. His fault for thinking she might actually be listening to him, he thinks. “How’re you feeling?”
“Pregnant,” she says flatly, placing a hand on her stomach. “Remind me why I decided to have your kid again?”
Because you allegedly love me, he says to himself, biting back the retort to avoid her wrath. But he’d be lying if he said he hasn’t been thinking the same thing.
After a dinner of roasted chicken and mashed potatoes (neither of which were burnt, to Eddie’s delight), Eddie and Wayne sit on the front porch in identical wicker chairs. It’s a warm summer night, the fireflies occasionally blinking in the dusk, crickets chirping their familiar mating calls.
Brittany is inside resting; Eddie had asked if she wanted to come out with them, but she’d just wrinkled her nose and said it was too hot.
Wayne watches his nephew’s leg bounce up and down and his grip tighten on his can of Budweiser. They remain in silence until the older man can’t ignore it any longer.
“Are you going to tell me what’s going on before you crush that full can of beer you got in your hand?”
Embarrassment paints a blush on Eddie’s cheeks, unable to deny the surge of relief flooding his body that Wayne brought it up. “Just…anxious, I guess.”
“‘Bout what?” Wayne asks, taking a swig from his own can.
“Becoming a dad. I mean, I had you raising me, but before that…” he bites his lower lip as he searches for the right words. “I’m worried I’ll be more like my old man than like you.”
Wayne shakes his head. “Eddie, you were meant to be a dad. And that kid is gonna adore you.” He offers a small smile as he recalls, “You’ve always taken care of people. Even back in high school, you were always looking out for the younger kids in that fantasy game club you ran.”
Eddie chuckles, but everything Wayne says is true. If he saw someone looking lost and lonely, he brought them into the fold. Don’t know how to play D&D? We’ll teach you. Welcome to Hellfire.
“I guess so. It’s different when it’s your own child, though.”
“I know you can handle it.” Wayne claps him on the back. “And I’m always here for ya. Whatever you need.”
Eddie smiles at him as Brittany comes outside, wearing the frown that seems to be permanently etched on her face.
“Eddie.” Her tone is clipped and irritated, though Eddie can’t remember doing anything wrong.
He quickly stands up, nearly spilling his drink. “Is everything okay? Did something happen?”
She rolls her eyes. “You left me inside by myself while you two bullshit out here.”
“Eddie just needed to talk to me,” Wayne tries explaining. “We were about to head back in.”
Brittany crosses her arms on top of her baby bump. “Forget it. Clearly, I’m not a priority for you.” She motions to Eddie. “I’m going to bed, and I want to lock up, so you can come in now or sleep outside tonight.”
Eddie bites back his anger. She’s having your baby; just be patient. “Yeah, let me just toss this…” He shakes the empty can.
Brittany huffs, waddling back into the house without even saying goodbye to Wayne.
Eddie stops and gives his uncle a long hug. “Next time I see you, I might be a dad,” he grins. “Scary to think about, isn’t it?”
Wayne chuckles. “Nah, kid; you’re gonna be great.” He pauses for a moment, contemplating his words, before deciding to say what’s in his heart. “Listen, Ed; about—”
“Eddie! Let’s go!”
Eddie shoves his hands in his pockets. “I, uh, gotta get going. Thanks for coming over.”
Wayne slowly exhales as he watches his nephew shuffle into the house. “God, I hope he realizes he’s worth so much more than how she treats him.” He shakes his head and trudges to his car.

The sound of crying jars Eddie out of a peaceful sleep. His first instinct is that he needs to go check on the baby, only…the baby hasn’t been born yet. The fogginess of sleep clears away just enough for Eddie to realize it’s not the sound of a baby crying, and it’s coming from right next to him.
The moment he recognizes Brittany’s sobs (as he’s heard them many times over the course of this pregnancy), Eddie bolts up in bed and flicks his bedside lamp on.
“Britt? Honey, what’s wrong?” he asks, voice hoarse from disuse.
Brittany’s shoulders shake as she cries into her hands, awkwardly—and probably uncomfortably—leaning back against her pillows. She tries to calm herself enough to speak, but she just keeps sputtering over her words. It makes Eddie even more nervous as he scoots closer to her and gently rubs his hand along her arm.
“T-The nursery isn’t done y-yet,” Brittany weeps before hiding her face back in her hands. She leans forward, bent in half as much as she can get with the swell of her belly so large.
The adrenaline coursing through Eddie’s body starts to calm down now that he realizes the life of his wife and child aren’t in danger. He yawns and reaches one hand over to rub soothing circles into the back of Brittany’s silky pajama top. Slowly, she pulls away from his touch and situates herself so she’s able to face him better.
“It’s not done yet!” she repeats, as if he didn’t hear her the first time. A hint of anger has joined the despair in her voice, the amalgamation of hormones creating another perfect storm.
Eddie lets out a sigh and runs a hand over his face. “Britt, I—”
Brittany doesn’t let him finish; she throws the blankets off of herself and starts pacing back and forth in the space between their bed and the wall. It’s not a large area, so really, she mostly looks as if she’s waddling around in a circle. Under different circumstances, Eddie might laugh.
“The baby could be here at any time and the nursery still isn’t finished!” A wail comes from Brittany’s lips and he knows that, as difficult as Brittany could be sometimes, this is fueled by hormones—not even she would be this worked up in her usual state.
Quickly, Eddie jumps out of the bed and walks around to her. He places his hands on her shoulders and stands in front of her so she can’t continue her walking. When she doesn’t look at him, Eddie ducks his head until their gazes catch.
“The walls are painted. The crib is put together. The shelves are up. Clothes are in the closet. All that’s left to do is put the last pieces of furniture together.” He tries to logic this out with her, hoping it’s the best course of action to get her to calm down.
“The dresser, the changing table, the toy chest…” Brittany rattles off the list.
“Which all can be done after the baby is born if it needs to be,” Eddie assures her. He cups her cheeks in his hands and takes a deep breath, wanting her to copy his actions.
Brittany begrudgingly takes a few deep breaths with Eddie, following his inhales and exhales until her system is a little calmer.
“They should be done before the baby is here,” Brittany says, sounding only slightly less upset than a few moments ago. She rubs at her runny nose and Eddie wipes a few stray tears from her face.
“We’ve got two weeks until your due date, hun. Don’t worry, it will get done.” Eddie truly believes this, but he knows his words probably don’t sound the most convincing since he was just jolted out of sleep.
Brittany nods but the emptiness in her expression leaves Eddie unsure if she actually heard his words or not. He’s too tired to question her on it though, so he gently leads her back to bed and helps her get situated. Or at least, as best as she can be this far along. Eddie knows how hard it’s been for her to get comfortable being this close to the end of the pregnancy, so he does anything he can to help.
Finally, Brittany is settled down in bed and Eddie goes back around to his side. He sits down on the edge of the mattress and flicks the lamp off. Regardless of the dark room, Eddie closes his eyes just to give himself a moment to try and compose himself.
By the sounds of the steady breathing, Brittany is already back asleep. These last two weeks were going to be hell for Eddie, he just knows it. They’re almost at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the pregnancy, but who knows what insanity will come along when the baby is finally here.
Figuring he should try to lighten the load that will be put upon him, he pushes himself off the bed and walks into the bedroom across the hall. Eddie tugs on the longest string connected to the ceiling fan and light floods the room, illuminating the partially completed furniture and the pale yellow walls. Eddie winces at how bright the lights are and tries to avert his gaze until he finds the small pile he put his tools into once he finished putting the crib together.
“Well,” Eddie sighs, “here we go.”
His stiff bones protest as he sits down on the floor. A few plush rugs are rolled up in the corner of the room, but since they’re not yet laid out, Eddie’s bony ass is about to be sitting on a hardwood floor the whole time. Pulling the necessary tools over to him, he gets to work on the remaining pieces of furniture.
By the time he’s done, he only has about an hour until his alarm goes off for work. The tightness and achiness in his body are even worse than they were before as he trudges back to bed, ready to take full advantage of those precious sixty minutes.
When his alarm goes off, Brittany gets up as well—she has to pee, unsurprisingly. Eddie takes a cold shower to try and wake himself up, and the moment he steps out of the bathroom, Brittany is sobbing and wrapping her arms around his neck.
He wasn’t expecting her to be there, let alone, coming at him with a force like that, so he staggers back a few steps as he holds onto her. He’s glad he tied the towel around his waist as securely as he did, or he’d be a lot colder standing there in the hallway.
“Whoa, whoa, what’s going on? What’s wrong?” Eddie asks. Brittany sniffles as she pulls back and looks at her husband through watery eyes.
“You put the rest of the furniture together,” she says through some wetter sniffles.
“Mhmm,” Eddie hums, still half asleep.
Brittany just buries her head in his neck again. Eddie loosely drapes his arms around her waist and lays his head on hers. He’s pretty sure he almost dozed off that way when Brittany pulls back and wipes the tears from her rounded cheeks.
“Thank you, Eddie. I know I overreacted last night.”
Eddie knows it too, but he’s not dumb enough to say that out loud.
“You’re allowed to have emotional reactions to things, babe,” Eddie tells her. He softly trails his fingertips down the swell of her belly. “You’re carrying our baby. Kinda gives you a bit of a hall pass.”
Tumblr media
A week later, Eddie’s finishing up a brake job at work when his boss tells him his wife is on the phone. Immediately, Eddie knows it’s about the baby. He could probably count the number of times that Brittany has called his work on one hand in all the years he’s been working here.
“Hello?” Eddie answers the phone, not caring that he’s getting black, greasy fingerprints all over the receiver.
“In labor,” Brittany pants out, clearly in pain. “M-Meet at the hospital.”
“I’m on my way, hun.”
Everything is a blur as Eddie washes his hands, punches out, and climbs into his truck. Brittany’s in labor. Which means the impending arrival of the baby is upon him. Eddie feels a little dizzy at the thought, which is probably not great since he’s going about twenty miles over the speed limit on the way to the hospital.
The truck is barely in park as Eddie hops out of it and jogs over to the hospital doors. He asks the woman at the front desk where the maternity ward is, and he keeps mentally repeating the directions to himself so that he won’t forget them.
A nurse tells Eddie that Brittany is in room 361 and points him in that direction. The only noise filling the sterile, white corridor is the occasional beeping of machinery from the different rooms, and the squeak of Eddie’s work boots on the shiny linoleum tiles.
The first person that catches Eddie’s eye when he walks into room 361 is Sandy, Brittany’s sister. It takes everything inside of him to keep the disgusted noise he wants to make to himself. She’s not really his focus right now though, so Eddie forgoes a greeting to push past and get to his wife. Brittany is lying in the bed, a hospital gown on, and what seems like dozens of wires connected to her.
“Hey,” Eddie says as he approaches the bed. “How are you—”
“Jesus Christ, Eddie,” Brittany gripes, looking him up and down. A nurse steps into the room, walking over to read some of the numbers on the machines Brittany is hooked up to, so his wife leans in and says through clenched teeth, “This is a hospital, and our baby is about to be born. Go home and clean up.”
Eddie’s tired and frazzled. He figured Brittany would want him by her side while she’s dealing with this initial pain. But her face clearly tells a different story. Eddie looks down at his coveralls and sees the oil smudges and grease handprints all over it. He should change, but he can’t bring himself to leave.
“Go home?” Eddie asks, voice small and confused. “By the time I get there, get cleaned up, then back here, it might be too late. Babe, what if I miss the birth?”
Brittany doesn’t seem too concerned with this, simply shrugging her shoulders and eyeing every little speck of dirt on the dark blue jumpsuit he’s wearing.
The nurse who is inspecting the machines looks up at Eddie and gives him a smile. “It’s still going to be some time now before the baby is born,” she assures him. “How far do you live?”
“Uh, about ten minutes away,” if Eddie recalls correctly—which he thinks he does, there’s just a lot flying around his brain right now.
“Oh, you should be fine, sweetheart,” the nurse says, waving a dismissive hand. “She’s still not fully dilated yet.”
As reluctant as he is to leave, the nurse’s words make the hesitancy lessen a little.
“I’ll, uh, be back.” Eddie turns and heads out of the room. He follows the reverse directions that got him to the maternity ward, back to his car in the parking lot. With speed that any NASCAR driver would be jealous of, Eddie gets back to the house and jumps in the shower.
In total, Eddie was probably in the house for ten minutes. But to him it felt like eternity. He’s itching to be in that hospital room with his wife and zooms back down the way from where he just came.
When Eddie gets back up to the room, nothing has changed—except for his clothes and cleanliness. Brittany’s in the same position, same miserable expression on her face. But in what is a pleasant surprise, Sandy vacates the chair next to Britttany’s bed so he can sit at his wife’s side. Eddie gives his sister-in-law a nod of acknowledgment as he takes his seat.
Eddie reaches for Brittany’s hand, and this time, she lets him touch her. He presses a few kisses to her knuckles before he gives her a small smile.
“How ya feeling?”
“Like I’m about to shit a bowling ball,” she responds, flopping her head back against her pillow. She does give Eddie a small smile in return though, which has him questioning how much pain medication they’ve already given her.
“Did your water break?” Eddie asks.
Brittany nods and her eyes dart over to her sister. “Sandy came over to keep me company and went into the kitchen to get us something to drink, but as I went to sit down on the couch, I could just feel this trickle of water going down the leg of my pants.”
“I heard the pop and thought she knocked something over with her pumpkin of a belly again,” Sandy says from behind Eddie.
“I’m glad you weren’t alone,” Eddie says. No matter how much he may dislike Brittany’s family, he does have to give credit to Sandy for always being a good big sister to Brittany.
The nurse from before wasn’t kidding when she said that Eddie would be fine to come home and then come back. The next couple hours just turn into a waiting game. Each time a nurse comes in, the three in the room will perk up and hope there’s some news about when Brittany can start pushing. But so far, no dice.
Eddie tries to talk with Brittany to keep her occupied and her mind off the pain. Anything that seems to come to his mind is deemed stupid by Brittany and she won’t carry a conversation. So, Eddie tries to get her to talk about things that she enjoys.
“Do you still want to see that surfer movie that’s coming out soon? Hmm? The one with Patrick Swayze, who you love so much. Should I be jealous?” Eddie smirks, to show he’s just playing around with her, but Brittany couldn’t care less.
“Do you honestly think I’ll be able to go to a movie theater at all this month, Eddie? Really? I think I’ll be a little busy being up to my eyeballs in dirty diapers,” she snaps.
Her constant putting-down of his attempts at conversations is wearing on Eddie. He clenches and unclenches his fist as he takes a deep breath. I can’t even imagine what she’s going through right now, he thinks to himself. Eddie nods to himself, as if he’s psyching himself up to take all of this in stride.
Finally, one of the nurses’ visits pay off when she brings a doctor in who informs them that Brittany is fully dilated. Now, the staff scrambles to get necessary tools that are needed and set up near the foot of the hospital bed.
“They couldn’t have done this earlier?” Brittany grits out through her teeth, low enough for only Eddie to hear.
“All right, Mrs. Munson,” the doctor says as he slips his hands into a new pair of latex gloves. “Are you ready to try pushing?”
“You’ve got this,” Sandy says. She walks over closer to the bed and Eddie can feel his knuckles turn white from how hard he’s grasping the bed rail. The nurse who told him that he had time to go home earlier is in the room now and must notice Eddie’s obvious distaste for Sandy. The nurse catches Eddie’s attention by walking into his peripheral vision. When he glances up at her, the nurse looks in Sandy’s direction, then back to Eddie. Her eyebrows raise and eyes widen, as if she’s asking, “You want this bitch gone?” Eddie gives a subtle nod of his head, and amongst the flurry to get the room ready, the nurse leans in so that Sandy and Brittany can hear.
“It looks like we’re going to try pushing now,” the nurse says, a sweet professional smile on her face. “Which means we can only have the father in the room.”
Part of Eddie knows he should feel bad. But he’s paying for this room, and he wants it to be just him and his wife welcoming this little bundle of joy to the world for the first time.
Sandy presses a kiss to the top of Brittany’s already sweaty head, and even pats Eddie’s shoulder before heading out the door to find a waiting room to relax in.
Eddie tentatively takes Brittany’s hand, unsure whether or not touching her is the right choice, breathing a sigh of relief when she accepts and squeezes the hell out of it. Maybe it’s to offset the pain—or to punish him for getting her pregnant in the first place—but he chooses to believe it’s because she sees him as a source of strength and support.
“You’ve got this, Britt. You’re strong as hell, you can do this,” he cheers softly, tears already prickling in his eyes in anticipation of meeting his child. “Come on, baby. Just a little bit more to go.”
Thirty minutes and nearly one broken hand later, shrill little cries fill the room. It’s the most beautiful music Eddie’s ever heard.
He cries as the doctor announces that Baby Munson is a healthy little boy, handing Eddie the clamp to cut the umbilical cord. His son—his son!—is still covered in blood and vernix, but he’s still absolutely perfect.
While the nurses take the newborn to clean him up and wrap him in a blanket, Eddie takes the opportunity to give his wife a kiss on her perspiration-soaked forehead. “I’m so proud of you. You did so, so well. And…and now we have a son.”
Brittany is exhausted, making her a bit more mellow, and she hums her approval. She moves her head to kiss Eddie, eyes starting to flutter closed from exhaustion.
Once the baby is all bundled up, the nurse hands him to Brittany, maternal instincts kicking in as she awakens to hold him. Eddie watches in complete awe, unable to comprehend that this baby is his son. A little being that’s half him.
When Brittany hands the baby to Eddie, he holds him close and starts crying again, this time through a beaming smile. The way his tiny body fits perfectly in the crook of his arms sends a surge of overwhelming joy through Eddie’s veins. He instantly knows that being a dad is the best thing that’s ever happened to him and is the best thing that ever will happen to him.
He brushes his forefinger against the baby’s knuckles, comically small compared to his own. “Hi there. It’s so nice to finally meet you. I’m your daddy.”
“Do Mom and Dad have a name picked out for this little guy?” The nurse asks with a grin.
Eddie nods; they had already decided on Ryan for a boy or Riley for a girl.
“Ryan Wayne Munson,” he announces proudly. He’d always planned to honor the man who had raised him, even if it meant arguing with Brittany, who had claimed the name was “too old-fashioned.” Eddie rarely put his foot down with his wife, but this was a matter he’d insisted upon.
Two hours later, between constant check-ins and breastfeeding demonstrations, Brittany is able to sleep. Eddie sits in the corner of the room, just holding Ryan. He stares down incredulously at the baby in his arms, unable to take his eyes off of him.
Softly, Eddie begins to speak to his son. “I promise you that I will be the best dad I can be for you. I won’t be perfect, but I will do my best.” He takes a deep breath before continuing.
“It’s amazing how I’ve loved you since the moment I knew about you. And now you’re here, in my arms. God, I love you so much more than you will ever know. My little Ryan.”

His Heart (Dad!Jason AU)
Tumblr media
Character: Jason Todd x civilian! Fem!oc
Rating and Warnings: G, no warnings, besides sappiness.
Word Count: 1,390
Summary: Jason comes back from a years long mission in space, and finds out he's a dad.
Masterlist
Jason stepped into the JLA Watchtower. Earth glowed, vast, blue, and beautiful, through the giant windows. It had been almost two years since he saw it. Dorothy knew what she was on about, there really was no place like home.
He was so sick of sleeping alone in his bunk. Andy had just moved into his apartment when he got swept away, and it had just started to feel really right.
Dick stood in the otherwise empty airlock in civvies. The furrow on his forehead was a little deeper than it had been last time, but his smile was just as wide and genuine.
He stepped forward and wrapped Jason up in a hug. Jason hugged his brother back, far beyond pretending at coldness. Space was cold enough, and the two years on the front lines had taken their toll on him.
“I wasn’t expecting a welcome party,” he said as they pulled back.
“What were you expecting?”
“I dunno,” he said, scratching the back of his neck. “Maybe a giant spray painted sign saying ‘And don’t come back!’”
Dick laughed. “Sure, if we wanted to see how long it’d take you to break into the tower.”
“Three minutes.”
“Well, you’re tired, we wouldn’t hold it against you.”
Jason scoffed. “I missed you, you asshole.”
Dick flashed his winning smile. “So now what? I only saw your arrival by chance. Do you have plans?”
“Not really. I’ll probably slink home, see if it's still standing. See if Andy still… wants anything to do with me.”
Dick blinked, his expression going blank.
Jason’s heart clenched. Was there just an empty apartment waiting for him with a note that had been collecting dust for eighteen months? It would be exactly what he deserved, he thought with a bitter twist of his lips.
“I guess I’ll settle in for a couple of days then go find her,” he said. Maybe just messaging her would be kinder? No, he was going to look her in the eye, even if it was just to say goodbye.
“Don’t do that,” Dick said. He touched Jason’s shoulders urgently. “Go straight to her. I’ll take you, we’re going now. She deserves that much.” He turned and hurried through the hallways towards the zeta tubes.
“Whoa, what? What are you talking about?” Jason caught up to him, grabbed his arm and dragged him back to a halt. “What’s happened?”
“Look, it’s not really my place to say.”
“You’re freaking me out, Dick,” he growled. “What, is she dying?”
“No! No, Jason, she… she’s had a baby. Your baby.”
For a moment the world stopped. The rotation of the vast planet out the window surely halted, same as the beat of his heart.
“What?” Jason rasped.
“Sophie. She turned one a few months back.”
“She’s my–? Oh. Oh fuck.”
The world rebooted, spinning anew but the axis had moved. Jason leaned hard against the wall. “Sophie,” he whispered.
Dick patted him on the shoulder. “Congratulations, by the way. For a year ago.”
Jason laughed, frantic and broken.
“Do you need a moment?” Dick offered. “We can go sit and–”
“No.” Jason pulled himself up. He marched towards the zeta tubes. “We’re going now. Straight to Andy and my– my daughter. Is she… how is she? Are they okay? Did the family help out?”
“Of course, Jay. That little girl has a whole circus’ worth of aunts and uncles who love her to bits. And a doting grandfather and great grandfather who spoil her rotten.”
He hung his head as they reached the platform. “I should have been there. I should have been there. What kind of deadbeat am I?”
“Save that for Andy.”
“Yeah.”
---
They drove from the manor to the apartment by the river overlooking the Narrows. It was the same one he and Andy had shared for that halcyon four months before duty came calling.
Dick dropped him off downstairs, saying he didn’t want to intrude but demanded Jason call him when he was settled in to plan some kind of family night. Jason didn’t hear a word of it.
He made it to the apartment door without registering any of it. He dropped his bag of gear.
He knocked.
“Coming!” Andy’s voice called. Faint music was drifting out through the walls, something upbeat and light. The door opened, letting in noonday light to the dark hallway, shining around a smiling Andy. She was in loose workout clothes that were stained on the shoulders. She wore no makeup and her hair was up in a bun on top of her head, and her skin had a light sheen of sweat.
Her expression stuttered at the sight of him.
He had no words.
“Jason?”
He surged forward. She met him halfway. Her arms wrapped around him as tight as his did around her, and it felt more right than anything ever had before.
He managed to get her name out, before he kissed her. Her hand grazed his cheek so tenderly.
He pulled back and looked into her eyes. Had there ever been anything so beautiful?
“Jason, I have to tell you,” she said, putting a hand on his chest. “While you were gone, I…”
“I know. Dick told me.” He looked around the entryway. Even if Dick hadn’t said a word the folded up pram, the tiny raincoat, and the row of little shoes would give the game away. The furniture had seen a change too, most things had been moved higher up.
His eyes caught on the shoes. They were so small. He couldn’t help his smile.
“Where is she?” he asked.
“Gaa,” a high pitched voice rang out from the living room.
Andy’s lips quirked.
Soft, slow footfalls patted on the hard flooring, heralding the new arrival.
He stepped forward, out of the still open doorway.
And a little girl toddled into view. She was wobbly but her face was fixed into a determined pout. She stuck her nappy-wrapped bum out for balance, and held her arms cautiously forwards. She wore a single sock and a yellow dress.
Jason’s heart relocated itself. It no longer lived in his chest.
She had a wispy halo of black floppy curls and a chubby round face. She stared at him.
He knelt down.
“Sophie, baby girl, this is your daddy. Can you say daddy?”
“Mammy.”
“Daddy,” Andy repeated, her voice wet.
Sophie hummed. She toddled closer, relentless despite some wobbles. She stuck out her lower lip and fixed her eyes to him with absolute determination. He held out his hand. She reached back, closer with every step.
Jason held his breath.
Her whole tiny hand wrapped around his crooked index finger. She laughed in triumph and then fell onto her bottom.
“Oom,” she said on impact.
She looked up at him again, actually seeing him now that her quest was complete. Big curious eyes of sparkling blue stared at him.
“Hello,” he said. He offered a shaky smile. His eyes were glassy.
She stared back. She blinked.
“Da.”
His tears fell. “That’s me,” he said.
“Da. Da. Da de da den dayaya,” she babbled and giggled at herself.  She lifted her arms at him.
He lifted her gently and held her to his chest. She was so impossibly small. He could feel her heart beat against him, so feverishly fast. But she was calm, quite happy to be held. He curled around the most precious thing in the world. His breath hitched as he tried not to sob.
She hugged him back; chubby little arms wound around his neck. She was so unafraid.
He looked up at Andy. She was smiling down at them through her own tears, her hand held over her mouth.
He stood, lifting his baby up. He held his little girl in one arm and the love of his life in the other. The baby was the only one dry eyed. Andy kissed the downy top of her head. Sophie leaned her head against his chest with a little sigh, safely ensconced between them.
“Uncy?”
“Hn?” he queried.
“No, baby, he’s not an uncle.”
Sophie turned her head back, looking up at him.
“Uncy Da,” she said, like she wasn’t letting them trick her that easy.
He gave an amused snort that almost covered the yawning gulf in his heart. “That’s what I get for not being here.”
“You’ll just have to stick around and convince her otherwise.”
“Yeah.” He took a deep breath. “I will.”

Tumblr media
“So… Can you make it?”
“I wouldn’t miss it, Drew.” you tell your best friend, gently nudging his shoulder. “I just still can’t believe you’re finally settling down. I never thought I’d see the day.”
He laughs. Andrew - or Drew - has been your best friend since you were kids. You had moved into the neighborhood with your mom after she and your dad divorced and you remember how Drew and his family had welcomed you with open arms whenever your mom was too inebriated to take care of you.
Living next door to Drew and his family was a godsend to you, especially at the young age of eight. They protected you. They made you feel safe, made you feel loved. It was always a stark contrast between your home and his. Drew’s house, from the moment you stepped foot inside, always gave you the warm feeling in your belly and you always found yourself never wanting to leave, not wanting to go back home to the empty and lonely feeling that you experienced every night.
And now, over twenty years later, Drew and his family have maintained that unspoken promise to keep you safe, to protect you, and to always make sure that you were loved.
“Yeah, yeah,” Drew rolls his eyes. “What about you? When are you gonna settle down?”
Now it was your turn to laugh. You grab your wine glass and finish the last remaining liquid. “I’m not the marrying type,” you respond.
“You won’t turn out like your parents,” he says softly.
“Drew, I know,” you sigh. “I just– I don’t want to open myself up like that. It’s too scary.”
“You never know,” Drew smiles. “I thought I liked being single, being with a different woman every week or so, but Sarah…” he lets out a sigh of contentment. “She’s just– It’s been four years since we’ve been together and I think I fall more in love with her every day.”
“Okay, lover boy,” you chuckle. “We get it. You’re in love. You’re about to get married… But I agree with you. She’s the best, and she’s the only one of your girlfriends where she didn’t feel intimidated by me or our friendship.”
Drew sighs, “I know. It’s the curse of having a woman as a best friend.”
“Whatever,” you roll your eyes. “The women before Sarah were just jealous and not confident or secure in their relationship with you.”
Drew nods. “That’s true. Besides, you’re like a sister to me.” He smiles, wrapping his arm around your shoulders.
“Like a big sister?” You tease. “Just kidding, we’re only a year apart.”
“Yeah, and I’m the older one.”
Just as you were going to say something, Sarah steps out into the backyard and walks in your direction. You look over at Drew and smile to yourself, seeing the way his eyes light up when he sees her and how he immediately stands up to meet her half way, enveloping her in a tight embrace.
“Hi, baby,” he whispers, gently kissing her temple. “How’d dinner with your dad go?”
“It was good. He was asking about you. Same with Uncle Tommy.”
“Ah,” he chuckles. “They’re gonna give me shit the next time I see them, aren’t they?”
Sarah grins and you swear that you see Drew fall in love all over again with the sight of her smile. You can see her deep dimples on her cheeks and how her eyes soften and also seem to smile. It was one of the first things you noticed about her: the kind and warm look she gave you – it was the same look that Drew and his family looked at you.
“You know it. Now, let me go say hi to my girl. Can you go inside and pour me a glass of wine?”
Drew nods and kisses her cheek before he disappears inside the house. Sarah takes his seat and looks over at you, arching her brow.
“What?” you ask.
“I might have someone that is interested…” she grins.
“Sarah,” you chuckle. “You and Drew need to stop playing matchmaker. The past two blind dates I have been on have been terrible.”
“You didn’t even give it a chance,” Sarah sighs.
“You know I like older guys,” you smile. “I just don’t want to settle down. Getting married and all that doesn’t have to happen for everyone.”
“I know,” she leans against you. “I just want you to be happy.”
“And a man isn’t gonna be the answer.” You look over at her. You can see the concern on her features – that was another thing that you learned about Sarah. She wears her heart on her sleeve and whenever she gets worried about the people she cares about, her face and expressions tell it all. “I’m fine,” you reassure her. “I got you and I got Drew. That’s all I need.”
“Maybe I should set you up with my Uncle Tommy,” she teases, letting out a quiet laugh. “He’s older. Single. He needs a good woman to anchor him down.”
“And why’s that?” you smile. “Is he trouble, Sarah?”
She laughs, shaking her head. “No, he just hasn’t found someone yet.”
“Like me,” you point out.
“He’s older,” she chuckles.
“Well, your engagement party is this weekend. I’m assuming he’s gonna be there?” you tease.
“Oh my god, are you serious?” You see the light in her eyes, the excitement across her features.
“No! He’s your uncle, how weird would that be?”
“Not weird,” she laughs. “It’d be weird if it was my dad you were interested in.”
“Isn’t he like fifty?”
“More than that, fifty-six.”
Drew steps out into the backyard with two glasses of wine, one for Sarah and another refill for you.
“Is this an early celebration?” you tease.
“We just wanna celebrate with you one-on-one before the pre-wedding festivities begin. It’s gonna be a lot,” Drew replies, sitting next to Sarah and wrapping his arm around her shoulders instantly.
“Well, whatever you both need, just let me know. After all, I am your best woman,” you tell Drew.
Sarah smiles and leans against Drew, bringing the glass of wine to her lips. “It’s gonna be fun,” she adds. “But Drew’s right. It will be a lot, so this is kind of like the calm before the storm.”
“Well, cheers to that then,” you laugh, raising your glass. “Cheers to you both and cheers for what’s to come.”
Tumblr media
You’re running late and by the time you reach Sarah dad’s house, there are so many cars that you have to park at the end of the street. You’re practically sprinting to the house, hearing the music and laughter coming from the backyard. You’re wearing a sleeveless navy blue satin dress that stops just past your knees, the thin spaghetti straps resting on your shoulders with a cowl neckline. Their engagement party is semi-formal and you can feel your feet begin to ache from the heels you’re wearing.
Your hair is in loose curls and you’re about to knock on the door when it swings open. You look up at the man, feeling your breath immediately escape you. His hair is slicked back, tinges of gray in the dark brown. You notice his beard, patchy in some areas, his plump lips begging to be kissed, but as you obviously ogle this man, you don’t realize that he’s actually speaking to you.
“Are ya lost?” his voice is deep, rough, and you just want to hear it against your ear as he’s thrusting– “Are ya here for the party?”
“Yeah, sorry. I’m late. I’m Drew’s best woman–”
“Ah,” he interrupts. “You are late.”
You can’t think. The sounds of the music and laughter drown out as you stare up at this man. He’s wearing black slacks and a dark green button up with the sleeves folded to his elbows. He’s staring at you too, though, hand remaining on the doorknob as he looks at you in amusement.
“You gonna let me in or stand guard all day?” you say, trying to snap yourself out of this trance. For a split second, you forget why you’re here and all you can think about is talking to this man and having him take you up to his–
“That depends,” he smirks, the dimple on his right cheek appearing. “You gonna be polite and say please?”
You blush. You’re sure he didn’t mean for it to come out the way it did, but you can’t help but notice the way his eyes linger on your frame. It gives you a bit of confidence as you step up to him, inches now separating your bodies.
“Please,” you whisper.
You see his smirk falter, his jaw tighten and instead of responding, he nods and steps aside to give some space between the both of you.
“They’re in the backyard,” he adds. You step past him, looking over your shoulder at him to see that his eyes had fallen on your backside. When he looks up at you and realizes that you had caught him staring, he immediately clears his throat and points towards the driveway. “I’m just gonna–”
“Wait,” you interrupt, reaching out to rest a hand on his forearm. “I didn’t get your name.”
“Joel,” he responds. “Sarah’s dad.”
Then, he removes himself from your grasp and walks out, shutting the door behind him. You clear your throat, biting the inside of your cheek.
“Shit,” you whisper to yourself. “He does not look fifty-six.” You turn on your heel, following the sound of chatter and music as you try to rid yourself of the lingering thoughts of Joel.
Tumblr media
Joel isn’t expecting Drew’s best woman to look like you. When he opens the door and you’re standing on his doorstep in that dress, it takes every ounce of him not to look at you from top to bottom. It helps, though, that he notices you staring at him like you want him. It actually gives him confidence that a pretty thing like you is finding him attractive enough that you’re distracted enough not to hear what he’s actually saying.
But then he hears you say that you’re Drew’s best woman. It all but crushes him, crushes any ounce of hope he was holding onto that maybe at the end of the night he’d take you to his bed. You’re off limits and you’re certainly too young for him, but he can’t help himself.
He can’t help but ask you to beg and say please to come in.
And when you do, without any hesitation, he feels the blood immediately rush towards the center of his pants. When you step closer to him, Joel has to tighten his jaw and tighten the grip he has on the doorknob. It anchors him, gives him something to ground himself or else he is going to lose his resolve… quick.
When you finally step inside and walk past him, he turns just slightly to glance at your backside. The dress you’re wearing accentuates every curve while remaining modest enough, but he can’t help himself. Though, when Joel does look up, he feels embarrassed that you’ve caught him staring.
He has to step outside, has to create some distance between him and you, but then he feels your soft touch on his forearm and it causes a shiver to run down his back. After he tells you that he’s Sarah’s dad, Joel doesn’t bother to wait to see your reaction. Instead, he leaves you standing there while he steps out of his house, shutting the door behind him and shutting the door to the inappropriate thoughts that fill his mind.

Don't Need No Butterflies When You Give Me the Whole Damn Zoo
Roy Kent x Teacher!Reader
Warnings: Language, flirty Roy being flirty
1.3k words
Teach Me Tonight Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Twenty-three, twenty-four,” you mumbled to yourself as wriggling students piled onto the bus, chattering and calling out to friends they wanted to sit with.
Once all twenty-four kids were onboard, you turned to the chaperones, avoiding a certain pair of brown eyes as you tried to remind yourself that you were working.
“You can all go ahead,” you announced. “Sit anywhere you like.”
The chaperones moved past you, murmuring thank yous as you waved them aboard. A couple mums, a grandmother, a dad, and one ridiculously handsome uncle. The last one stopped, raising his thick eyebrows at you and nodding towards the bus.
“Ladies first,” he insisted in that gorgeous voice, placing his hand on the small of your back.
Your knuckles were practically white as you gripped your clipboard, letting Roy Kent urge you to climb up the bus steps. Pretending that you weren’t blushing furiously, you confirmed numbers with the driver and took the window seat by the bus door. To your surprise, Roy nodded to the seat next to you.
“Think I could join you?” His thick eyebrows were knitted together . “Pheebs decided to sit with Kokoruda. Don’t want to look like a fucking loser, sitting alone.”
Your lack of hesitation was almost embarrassing. “Of course,” you squeaked, scooching closer to the window. “But if a kid gets carsick, I will have to bump you for them.”
His smile had your stomach doing flips. “Well, here’s hoping no one gets sick then.” He took the empty seat, letting his fingers brush against yours as he got comfortable.
The drive to the zoo was simultaneously the shortest and longest ride of your life. Roy quietly chatted with you, telling you how excited Pheobe was for the trip, how relieved he was to have a day away from Jamie Tartt; he was even thoughtful enough to ask you about the novel you’d mentioned during your lunch together, asking you if you’d made any progress in the thick book. It was almost… disappointing when you pulled up at the zoo and had to jump back into teacher mode.
Once you managed to get everyone inside the zoo, you made sure each child knew who their adult was and gave each chaperone their group list and a map of the zoo. You gave quick instructions about where to meet for lunch and dismissed groups to go enjoy their morning, doing your best to ignore the way Roy’s eyes lingered on you.
Before you could lead your group in the direction of the giraffe exhibit, Jack’s dad placed a firm hand on your shoulder.
“Should we get your number?” he asked, wearing that smirk you often saw during drop-offs. “In case we need to get in touch with you. Emergencies and such, you know.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you swore you saw Roy clench his jaw as Phoebe tried to steer him towards the lions.
You shook your head quickly. “It’s fine. If you need me, just use the messaging app like normal. I’ll be checking it all day, I promise.” Your smile was tight as you took a step back, away from his hand that loitered a bit too long; Roy was still frozen in place, just staring at you.
Roy knew you didn’t like the attention from dads like Jack’s; even if you hadn’t explicitly told him, he’d figure that you weren’t the type of person to like their lingering gazes and overly friendly touches. You were too good, too kind, too sweet. But still, seeing the sharkish smile aimed at you had his chest feeling tight and his skin burning.
His chest tightened in a different way when you smiled at him before leading your group on its way. You might not like attention from students’ parents, but you seemed to be just fine with attention from smitten uncles. And for that, Roy was grateful.
It was an easy morning, leading your students from exhibit to exhibit. Just before lunch, your students insisted on a trip to the reptile house. Deciding that you had enough time, you let them wander through the dark hut, gasping and pointing at the snakes and lizards and other creepy crawlies.
Suddenly, as you leaned against a rocky wall and did your head count, you realized there was double the number you were expecting.
“Not a fan of snakes and lizards?”
Roy Kent appeared next to you, looking cooler than you felt as he leaned casually on that same wall.
You chuckled and folded your arms. “Snakes and lizards, yes. The tarantula in that corner over there, not so much.”
“Don’t worry,” Roy tutted quietly, loud enough for only you to hear. “I can protect you.” His hand found your lower back, his thumb brushing the spot where the back of your shirt rode up just a little to reveal a peek of bare skin.
Your breath hitched at his touch, prompting raised eyebrows from him. While his face was amused, his eyes were soft, assuring you that, if you asked, he’d stop touching you, he’d step back and put a respectable distance between you.
But you’d never ask that.
Instead, you smiled shyly up at him, thankful for the darkness that hid your furious blush. “Thanks, Coach,” was all you could manage.
“Anytime.”
The two of you stayed like that, watching the children explore the reptile exhibit with small smiles on your faces, neither of you knowing what to say next. Finally, the alarm on your phone went off, reminding you about lunch. Roy reluctantly let go of you, but walked close as your little groups scampered ahead to the picnic area.
“You’re fun to watch,” he murmured after you answered a student’s random question about why the sky is blue. “With the kids, I mean. Fucking natural.”
His praise had your blush returning. “Thanks.” Feeling bold, you nudged him gently. “But might want to watch the language around the kids, Coach.”
He laughed at your reprimand. “Sorry ’bout that.” He leaned in close, his gruff voice dripping with flirtation. “Don’t suppose that means I have a detention now?”
Every ounce of boldness melted away. “Oh, I, um…” You cleared your throat. “Better make sure everyone has their lunches, hmm?”
Roy watched you as you strolled from table to table, checking on your students and chaperones, the picture of amiability with your smiles. You were in jeans; he hadn’t seen you in jeans before. He liked you in jeans, he decided. Those jeans would probably look great with a Greyhounds kit. One with a number six on the back, perhaps.
The tips of his ears burned when you glanced over and caught him clearly staring. Your shy grin assured him that you didn’t mind; heck, you almost looked like you were enjoying his attention. After checking on the other groups, you finally made your way over to his table, beaming down at Phoebe and her classmates.
“Everyone’s good here?”
The kids showed off their sandwiches and chips and desserts, assuring you that they were set. After acting adequately impressed by their lunches, you nodded to Roy.
“And you, Coach? Got something to eat?”
Roy shrugged, sheepish grin on his face. “Was so busy making Phoebe’s lunch, I fucking forgot to make mine.” He laughed at the grimace on your face. “Effing forgot to make mine,” he corrected. “Sorry.”
By the time he finished apologizing, you’d already reached into your little backpack and pulled out your sandwich, already cut in half, and offered it to him. “Want some?”
“Thanks,” he huffed, taking half and pretending his heart didn’t skip a beat at your thoughtfulness. He couldn’t help but chuckle as he took a bite; how the fuck did you manage to make a simple ham and cheese sandwich taste so good?
You watched him eat, amused by the image of Roy Kent, football legend, infamous grouch, chomping on half a ham sandwich, with his little niece snug against him. He was a one-of-a-kind guy, different from anyone you’d ever dated. Heck, different from anyone you’d ever met.
As you smiled at each other across the picnic table, you couldn’t help but wonder: was Roy Kent ever going to ask you on a proper date?

You are great writer! Stumbled on that on set Evan fic and it was soooo good 🔥 Lol, I actually do work on set and you really captured the atmosphere tbh. Keep it up!
Not sure if you’re open to requests rn, but I would love your take on Evan and his partner trying to make a baby for the first time. He just seems so sweet and I’d love to think of this man in a happy marriage, daydreaming about little feet running around.
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your kind words <33
So, I decided to make this two parts. This first part is just fluff, the readers get to see Evan in kind of a paternal role in this part, baby making will be in the next, I hope you enjoy!
Also ngl, I had this done for a couple of days now, I just couldn’t think of a title :/ so sorry about that. I’m awful with titles smh

“Thank you again, I know it’s a bit short notice, “ Evans brother, Andrew, says as he closes the door behind him to step out onto the dim front porch with Evan, his daughter Ellie, and myself.
“Dude, It’s no problem really!” Even smiles, laying a gentle hand on his brother’s shoulder. “It’s always a joy having Ellie around,” he grunts as he picks up her small ‘Peppa Pig’ suitcase and her car seat.
“Yeah, Dad! They love me!” Ellie giggles as she grabs onto my arm. I smile at her snaggle toothed grin. The yellow light of the porch reflecting off her dark hair, making her curly pig tails look golden.
“They’re right Andrew,” I reiterate as we all begin to walk to Evans car, Ellie’s small hand in mine while the crickets chirp their evening song. “Now you go inside and help the Mrs. pack for your..uh.. trip. We’ve got it from here, “ I give Andrew a sympathetic smile, taking Ellie’s sippy cup out of his hand.
Andrews wife’s mother has been rushed to the hospital just a few hours ago and the couple is driving through the night to be there with her. They haven’t told Ellie the reason for the trip, all she knows is that she’s spending the weekend with Auntie y/n and Uncle Evan.
“Be sure to call me if you need anything or if Ellie just wants to talk, bye sweetie,” Andrew picks up his daughter, giving her kiss on the head.
“I love you daddy,” she giggles hugging him back quickly before trying to escape his embrace. “Let me down! I wanna go to Uncle Evans!” She Kicks her small light up sneakers, flashes of purple and red glow on the concrete as her feet hit the ground. Andrew just laughs. Thanking us again before making his way inside.
“Give me the suitcase babe, I’ll throw it in the back,” I take the pink bag out of Evans arms, walking to the trunk to toss it in.
I make my way around the vehicle to see Evan bent over struggling to get the carseat hooked in as Ellie hangs on his leg, both of them erupting in giggles.
“Ellie I can’t get this carseat in with you climbing all over me like that,” he laughs as he pulls at the locked seatbelt, trying to free it so he can stretch it through the back of the child’s seat. Ellie continues as if she hasn’t heard him, and Evan lets her. I smile at the pure joy beaming from my husband. He loves children dearly; his niece is no exception of course. He’s brought up starting a family of our own many times in the few years we’ve been married, I’ve just never felt quite ready with how much time away his job requires, but now things are slowing down and the idea of having a baby grows on me more every day.
“Now Ellie, how will we ever make it to our house if you don’t let Uncle Evan buckle your seat in?” I ask, giving her a stern look. She considers my statement, then reluctantly trudges over to me, leaning on my leg.
“Oh okay,” she frowns, looking up at me with her big hazel eyes.
“Done! … I think.” Evan exclaims, backing away from the vehicle. I stifle a laugh when I see the crooked car seat that he is ever so proud of. I simply walk up and adjust it before plopping Ellie in the seat and strap her in. Finally, we can go home.
After arriving home, we bring Ellie’s bag in to the room that she’ll be sleeping in, I take her down to the kitchen as Evan goes to change into some sleepwear. It’s a bit late, 7:00 pm and the sun’s already set for the night, but we’ve been informed that Ellie hasn’t had supper yet.
“Okay so you want a grilled cheese, we can do that, but you need to have a veggie as well,” I pick up Ellie and set her on the dining chair. She’s expressed that she wants a grilled cheese and only a grilled cheese. She even briefly tried to convince me that she’s allergic to all vegetables. “We have broccoli,” I pull a head of broccoli out of the fridge and set it on the table.
“Yuck!” The small girl rolls her tired eyes.
“Carrots,” I grab a bunch of fresh carrots, placing them in front of her.
“No way!” She shoves them away from her. I huff.
“Or we have green beans,” I reach into the pantry and set a jar of green beans next to the other veggies.
“Aunt y/n, you’re crazy. No thank you to all of them. Just a grilled cheese please,” she says in disgust, reaching for the bag of bread and block of cheese, sliding the ingredients closer to me.
“Ellie-“ I sigh, admittedly losing some patience.
“Oh wow look at all these super veggies that Aunt y/n has laid out for you. You’re lucky, she’s giving you the special ones,” Evan says coming around the corner, now in his pajamas, as he takes a seat next to his niece.
“What do you mean?” She inquires, raising a small eyebrow.
“Oh she didn’t tell you?” He gasps, shifting his gaze to wink at me. I stifle a laugh.
“These carrots,” he pulls the bunch to him. “They give you night vision.” He explains. Ellie considers his claim.
“What about this one,” she hands him the head of broccoli.
“Oh this? It just gives you super speed, no big deal I guess if you don’t want to be the next quicksilver,” he says nonchalantly, tossing the head of broccoli in between his hands. Ellie gasps, her eyes light up.
“I want this one!” She grabs the green veggie and hands it to me. “Please.” She adds, remembering her manners. I laugh.
“Don’t you want to hear about the green beans?” Evens asks, standing up from his seat.
“No thank you. Super speed please!” She crosses her hands on the table, awaiting her superpowers. Evan takes the broccoli from my grasp, turning to grab a cutting board.
“I got it honey, go upstairs and get ready for bed,” he kisses my forehead. I smile and thank him before making my way to our bedroom.
I change into some comfy pajamas and do my nightly routine of skincare and brushing my teeth before padding down the steps. Before I peak my head around the corner I hear Evan shout,
“One more time… GO!” followed by the quick stomping of tiny feet. I clear the corner to see the furniture pushed out of the way and Ellie hurtling full speed towards me. She runs right into my stomach, nearly knocking the wind out of me.
“Jesus,” I wheeze. Ellie giggles boisterously with a toothless smile.
“I’m sorry Auntie y/n,” she manages to choke out as she falls to the ground in her fit of laughter. I look to my husband with wide eyes, trying to process what happened.
“Hey don’t look at me babe, it was the supper broccoli. Hopefully it will wear off soon,” he says genuinely, putting his hands up in defense. I can’t help but laugh.
I take a moment to admire the sight of my husband standing in his sweatpants and old stained shirt draped loosely on his toned body. His beautiful brown curls that are just a bit overdue for a trim sticking out every which way, yet resting perfectly on his soft features, and his scruff filling in more and more every day that he’s doesn’t shave. The gorgeous man in front of me, smiling from ear to ear with the purest of joy in his chocolate eyes makes my heart sing. He’s truly in his element right now. The elation coming from Ellie and Evan is contagious, I find myself in a fit of laughter as well as Ellie crawls up my legs and onto my back.
“Your turn to race Auntie y/n!” She cheers.
“No, no not tonight honey,” I disappoint her with my response.
“We have to clean up and get you ready for bed,” I walk over to Evan, passing the girl on my back into his grasp. “Which will be Uncle Evans job since he’s the one that wound you up,” I raise my eye brows at him. Ellie happily rests in his arms bridal style, her gummy grin never leaving her face.
“Hey, don’t give me that look,” he begins to walk towards the steps. “You’re the one that gave Ellie speed enhancing veggies,” he reminds me, almost fooling me as well, with how serious his tone and expression are.
I roll my eyes as I turn to put our living room back together.
‘You’d think Evan would know not have a 6 year old run laps around the house half an hour before bedtime.’ I sigh as I push our couch back into place. As irritated as I want to be, I can’t help but feel giddy. Seeing how happy Evan is with Ellie makes my heart swell with joy.
‘Maybe I will discuss having a baby with him.’ I think to myself as I replace our rug and coffee table back into the center of the room.
‘But having a child isn’t always fun. It’s much different having your own child than babysitting.’ I make note to remind him as I shove our recliner back to its designated spot.
‘And pregnancy can be complicated’ I’ll have to tell him. ‘I hope mine won’t be, but it is something you have to prepare for’ I’ll explain. He’s not the one getting pregnant so I know this may not be something he’ll consider.
I make my way to the kitchen to begin stacking the dishwasher with what little dishes Evan left in the sink before he went to destroying our living room.
‘And what will we do if you get a big job and have to fly halfway across the country while I’m in labor or freshly postpartum?’ I’ll be sure to ask. I begin to make myself nervous considering all my concerns.
‘And what if-‘
“She’s laying down,” Evans comforting voice breaks me from my thoughts. I can hear the smile as he speaks. I don’t even need to look up. “Once I finally convinced her that there is no goblin living in our guest room closet, she crawled right in bed,” his voice gets closer as he moves to wrap his strong arms around my waist, I lean back to rest my head on his shoulder, taking in his familiar scent. I turn to look up at him. I don’t know how his dimples haven’t popped right off his face from how much he’s been smiling this evening.
“Let’s have a baby,” I blurt out, looking into the pure joy glinting in his eyes. The joy turns to shock. He grabs my shoulders, spinning me around so he can search my eyes for any hint of joking. There isn’t any.
“Are you serious y/n?” He asks. The smile now just his jaw dropped to the floor, his eyes wide and his eyebrows raised so high that they’re hidden behind his curls. I chuckle at his reaction, my chest warming at how excited that one sentence has made him.
“Yes,” I simply answer. He matches my smile, pulling me into his chest so tight it almost hurts, but I don’t say anything.
“I want nothing more than that y/n,” he mumbles to the crook of my neck. I wiggle out of his grip enough to meet his gaze, seeing his mahogany eyes glistening. He blinks and a single tear threatens to escape though his long lashes. He reaches a hand up quickly to wipe the happiness attempting to leak from his eye.
“Let’s do it,” I grin. Every doubt, every concern, flying quickly out of my mind. The speech I was going to give him about the dangers and responsibilities of childbearing now long gone after seeing how happy the idea of us having our very own bundle of joy is making Evan.
“I love you so much y/n Peters,” he pulls me into a soft kiss, his lips warm against mine. I reach my hands up to bury my fingers in his curls.
“And I love you Evan Peters,” I smile against his lips. Though this kiss is gentle, but it is easily the most intimate kiss we’ve had. I can feel the adoration with every breath that fans over my face. “I think we should try as soon as Ellie goes home,” I suggest, pulling away from the kiss, resting my forehead on his.
“You wouldn’t reckon my brothers on his way home now, would you?” He jokes as he reaches down to grab my hands. Running his thumbs over my knuckles.
“I’m not even sure they’re out of the state yet Ev,” I smile at my husband. He brings both my hands up to his mouth, kissing each one gently.
“I suppose I can wait,” he sighs. I giggle, grabbing his arm to guide him to our room.
“Let’s check on Ellie one more time, then we can head to bed ourselves,” I whisper as we walk towards the guest room.
“You seriously expect me to be able to sleep, Honey? I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve night,” he flashes his dimples, I roll my eyes and smile at his excitement.

y/ndevils00 well, we tried!
devils lose 3-4 against the kitties tonight, giving us 1-1-1 so far in the season…. i guess the guys just wanted to even it out as soon as possible 🤷‍♀️
uncle haula-way opened up the penalties with a minor for hooking in the first period! and we ended that period scoreless and down by deux.
it ended up being a pretty uneventful second period until the kittens brought it up to 3-0, followed up directly by TWO tripping penalties made by swiss alps. he’s been thoroughly punished by not only being benched in the third by lindy, but also by me.
third period was OUR period! captain swiss and the ratty cat got into a kerscuffle, which landed them both in the slut box. and despite the fact that the old bat benched my bestie for the restie number 2, we got THREE goals and nearly tied up the game! but we didn’t, so it’s kind of a moot point.
p.s. Dmitry Kulikov, count your days, bitch 🫵🔪

We’ve Got a Secret (Dad!Eddie x Mom!Reader)

Read Part I here!
Warnings: lil bit of language, pregnancy, anxiety, weight gain, literally so much fluff your teeth will hurt

April 1992
“Babe, you ready?” Eddie calls from the living room where he’s slipping on his Dio vest.
“No, I’m not going!” you respond back, nearly in tears.
“So I’m just supposed to tell everyone about you being pregnant...without you?” he teases gently. A frown forms on his face when he doesn’t hear you say anything; just the sound of light sniffling coming from your bedroom.
“What’s going on?” He peers in to find you laying back on the bed, struggling to close the button on your favorite jeans. “Oh, sweetheart...”
“They...don’t...fit!” you cry out, giving up and letting the tears fall. You’re only three months along, but you’ve gained a little weight, and it must be enough that your pants don’t fit anymore. “I don’t get it! They just fit last week.
Eddie chuckles and presses a kiss to your temple, then to your pregnant belly. “You’re growing a whole human. You have to be kind to yourself.” He pauses for a moment. “Wait here.”
He rummages through the bathroom and you hear a small “a-ha!” as he closes a drawer. He holds up a hair tie in his hand triumphantly. “You can use this to keep your pants up while they’re technically unbuttoned.” You give him a confused look. “Steve told me about it,” he explains sheepishly.
“What is he, the pregnancy guru?” you ask, but you take the hair tie and it works. Your shirt is a little big, so it covers your handiwork. “Huh. Would ya look at that.”
“Now, c’mon, let’s go,” Eddie whines. “We gotta stop off at Wayne’s before dinner and tell him!” You’d already told your parents, who were ecstatic at the idea of a grandchild. Your mom called you this morning to let you know she picked up some baby clothes because she just got so excited.
Eddie holds your hand as he drives to his uncle’s house. His left leg is bouncing and he keeps looking over at you with a grin.
“He’s gonna freak out in the best way,” Eddie can’t contain his excitement. He stops at a red light and grabs your face, punctuating the kiss with an exaggerated mwah!
You giggle. “Eds, I’ve never seen Wayne do more than crack a smile. He didn’t even cry at our wedding.”
“Just you wait and see, Mama Munson,” he says. His new nickname for you fills you with giddiness and warmth.
~
Eddie raps at the trailer door frantically.
“Stop it! You’re gonna scare him!” you hiss. In your right hand is a small gift bag. You clutch it tightly, like it’ll float away if you don’t. “Sorry, Wayne!” you call out. “It’s just us.”
Wayne opens the door with a roll of his eyes. “What the hell is wrong with you, boy?” He pokes Eddie in the chest, but your husband just laughs.
“Sorry. Just have something for ya.” He takes the gift bag from your hand and gives it to his uncle.
“’s not my birthday...” Wayne steps back so you and Eddie can come in. Eddie takes your hand and squeezes it inconspicuously.
“Just open it!” he practically shouts. He’s just a ball of nervous energy; he’d probably be bouncing around the trailer if you weren’t holding onto him.
Wayne shoves the tissue paper aside and pulls out a mug. “Oh, good. Don’t got enough of these,” he says sarcastically.
“You have to read what it says,” you offer, watching as his eyes scan the text plastered on the front of the mug.
“World’s Best Grandpa...” he reads. It takes half a second for him to process it, and then a huge grin spreads across his face. Eddie looks at you, his facial expression screaming I told you so.
“I’m gonna...you’re--” Wayne turns to you, and you can only nod to confirm. Tears spring to your eyes and you’re 100% sure it isn’t just the hormones. “This is the happiest day of my life, and I bet it will be until that baby of yours arrives.”
“I’m due October 25. Can you wait until then?” you ask through your tears. Wayne hugs you, then grabs Eddie and hugs him too.
“You two are gonna be the best parents,” his voice catches and he clears his throat. “And whenever you need a break, just send ‘em over to Grandpa Wayne’s.”
The three of you spend a few more minutes talking about how you’ve been feeling, your plans to get a two-bedroom apartment, and potential baby names until your stomach growls embarrassingly loudly.
“Eds, looks like the baby needs to eat,” Wayne jokes, and you say your goodbyes as you scramble back into the van.
While you were excited to tell Wayne about your pregnancy, you’re nervous to tell the “kids” (they were all in college now, but they would always be Eddie’s little sheep). What if they got upset about something taking Eddie away from them? They still met up on school breaks to play Dungeons & Dragons. Would they be upset if Eddie had to cancel because the kid had a fever?
Eddie senses your anxiety and puts his big hand on your thigh, rubbing his thumb over you. “What’s eatin’ ya, baby?”
You shake your head. “Nothing...just worried about how everyone else is gonna react, ‘s all.”
“Are you kidding me? They’re gonna lose their shit! Did you know that every time Dustin sees me, he asks me when he’s gonna be an uncle?”
“No way!” you laugh, but you know it’s the truth.
“I’m serious!” Eddie’s laughing, too. “And I keep reminding him, ‘you’re Andy’s uncle!’ but you know that kid--it’s in one ear and out the other.”
“Sounds like Dustin,” you agree. Leaning back in your seat, you relax just a bit, though your nerves aren’t fully settled, and they won’t be until you can gauge everyone’s reaction.
~
Everyone’s at Steve and Nancy’s when you arrive. Dustin, Lucas, and Max are chasing after Andy, who never seems to run out of energy. It makes you wonder how much chaos your little one is going to cause. Will, Mike, and Eleven are helping Steve with dinner, while Nancy is setting the places at the dining room table.
She gives you a knowing smile. Eddie had to tell Steve that he was right, that you are pregnant, and Steve told Nancy--and Robin, who wasn’t able to make it tonight, but had called you as soon as she heard the news.
“All right; dinner’s ready!” Steve calls, pulling a pan of roast chicken out of the oven. Mike brings over the salad, Will grabs the rice, and El grabs a few bottles of salad dressing from the fridge.
“No marinara sauce,” Steve whispers to you teasingly. You mouth thanks and sit down next to Eddie. As soon as everyone else is seated, Eddie clears his throat.
“Before you all start boring us to death with your complaints about midterms and roommates, I just want to let you know that there will be a new member of Hellfire joining us for future games,” he starts.
Mike looks up worriedly, always concerned about newcomers in the group. “What? Who is he?”
“How are you so sure it’s a guy, Mike?” Max shoots back, getting a giggle from El.
“How many girls do you know who are trying to join Hellfire?” he retorts and turns back to Eddie. “When is he starting?”
“Probably around October,” Eddie answers before Lucas cuts him off this time.
“October? Why is he gonna take so long?”
“Damn, Sinclair. We don’t want this baby coming too early.” you pipe up from your seat. Eddie runs his fingers through your hair.
“FINALLY!” Dustin jumps up, nearly knocking over his glass of water. He shoots Nancy and apologetic glance before continuing. “This is gonna be the most metal kid ever!”
“Wait, can we throw you a Dungeons & Dragons themed baby shower?” Will asks. He joined Hellfire after moving back to Hawkins, and Eddie quickly accepted him into the group.
“That sounds awesome. Just nothing too scary,” you reply with a smile. Will nods, and you can basically see the wheels turning in his head. He’s always been the most creative of the bunch.
“Is it a boy or a girl?” asks Eleven.
“We want to be surprised,” Eddie answers. He pushes a lock of hair behind his ear, making his beaming smile even more visible.
“This kid definitely needs a Hellfire onesie,” Lucas adds, and Dustin nods in a agreement.
You turn to Mike. “What do you think, Wheeler?” Mike has been the most resistant to you. When Eddie told them he was proposing to you, Mike asked him if he was still going to play with them.
Mike smiles, melting your worry. “I think he--or she--will need a Hellfire blanket, too.”
You stand up to give him a hug, and everyone else joins in.
“Careful! Don’t squish the baby!” Dustin says suddenly, which sends everyone into a fit of laughter.
~
After dinner, you and Eddie head home. The pregnancy fatigue, combined with the high emotions of the day, leave you exhausted. You’re yawning in the passenger seat as Eddie talks to you.
“You feeling better now, sweetheart?”
You grab his right hand, which is resting on the gearshift, and squeeze it tight. “You know how they say it takes a village to raise a child? Well, we have the best village there is.”
“That we do, baby,” Eddie brings your hand to his lips and kisses it. “That we do.”

ARE YOU MINE
Zuko “someone to call mine” part two!
@multifandomedsimp ily bcz u commented and that shit makes my day
Tumblr media
It takes me two days before I text the number on the gift card, “hello?” A voice answers, I know that voice, “this is Zuko”
“I know.. it’s y/n from the other day. You gave me your number on the gift card” I nervously say, “um this is so random but would you maybe want to—“
“Yes”
“I haven’t even said the question”
“Just yes” His voice feels so desperate and it makes me feel wanted in a way I’ve never felt for a guy before.
It doesn’t take long for us to meet up, “are you sure it’s not too late?” I ask walking into the locker rooms, “I’ve got lacrosse practice”
“No, I just want to see you that’s all” he replies, “have fun”
I finish up two hours later; shower and drive to the park where we’re going to walk about. I see him; baggy jeans and crewneck which is a contrast to my leggings and hoodie. My damp hair down and scrunched up, “hey” he smiles as I walk up to him; hands tucked into my pockets.
“Hi, it’s cold out tonight. Didn’t the groundhog say it was supposed to be warm now?” I laugh a little, but my joke feels stupid now, “do you have any siblings?” I ask
He sighs, “I have a sister, Azula but she’s not right in the head” he looks down a little disappointed but sighs and looks back up, “what about you”
“I have a little sister, Suki. She’s definitely a character” I smile a little, “she’s annoying to all annoyingness but I would kill for her”
“A little sister seems nice, um how was your practice?” He asks; we’re both a little awkward and it’s nice to feel this way again
“It was good, lots of drills. Especially being Varsity captain there’s a lot of pressure to do well” I ramble, “do you do any sports?” I ask, nervously stuffing my hands into my pockets to fidget and pull at my nails
“No. I just make tea” he laughs a little, it’s a nervous and hoarse thing but it eases me comfort that he feels as I do, “I used to play soccer but I lost the passion for it. You know?” He gives a short smile as we circle around, and we find ourself back at the tea shop, “tea?”
“That..” the wind brushes through my jacket, “would be so nice” I smile as he leads me inside, we don’t take long before we get comfortable with each other. Sitting next to each other, talking about whatever.
“What was your mom like?” I ask, rubbing my hands on the cup of lotus tea to keep warm, “can I ask that?”
“I guess, she was kind, and sweet. The only one who actually tried to help poor Azula. My uncle has stepped up in her place and in my father’s too” he confesses, he looks so sad. I wrap my hand around his loose one that hangs by his side. Twisting my fingers intertwined with his.
“My dad left when I was four. I never really knew why but throughout my parents marriage he..” there’s a long exhale and I lean against him, bunching my knees to my chest, “was cheating on my mom. But she was pregnant with Suki” I pause trying to remember what happened. There was a fight, breaking glass but, “I can’t remember anything else”
“Thank you, for sharing that with me. My father was the same, he never cheated on my mother but he wasn’t a kind man either. I lied before. My scar doesn’t come from a tea pot exploding” he confesses, looking down ashamed at his own lie that doesn’t seem too horrible, “my father burned me. I think it’s a blessing I don’t exactly remember what happened”
“Yes. Maybe it is a good thing. I really like you Zuko” I admit. Maybe it’s the warm tea in my stomach or how talking about things that have hurt me so bad and not crying over it. It makes me feel good in some way
“I really like you too”

We're A Family Part 5 (Steddie X You)
Tumblr media
A/N: This was the other chapter I mentioned finishing last night. I kid you not I have so many tiktoks saved of how I picture these two as fathers to a baby. Lol. Enjoy <3.
Warnings: Not smut just an ungodly amount of fluff with slight angst from Mr. Harrington causing a ruckus and being a dick to Steve and the reader. The boys talk about their trauma briefly with Dylan. I think that's it.
Word Count: 3439
“Who’s this?” The doctor smiles at the young boy being held in Steve’s arms.
“This is my son, Dylan. He’s anxious like they are to find out what it is.”, you chuckle as he prepares you for the ultrasound.
“Ah, I see and what are the bets at?”
“Split 50/50.”, Eddie grins as he holds your hand.
The doctor laughs as he runs the wand along your belly. “How have you been feeling, Y/N?”
“Exhausted. She kind of started moving around a couple of weeks ago and loves cupcakes but there never seems to be enough in the house.” You playfully scowl at every member in your little family.
“Ay, dads. You two really need to shape up if you want mom to have a happy, peaceful pregnancy.” His eyes meet your wide ones as he glances at the other two men in the room. “Honey, we don’t judge here. As long as you and your baby are safe…that’s all I care about.”
Eddie caresses your hand comfortingly with his thumb as he smiles.
“And as always, it seems like the mama knows everything. Congratulations.”, he grins. “Meet your daughter.”
####################
You look down at Wayne from your place on the step stool as he giggles to himself. “What?”
“Oh, nothing, sweetheart. I’m just picturing my nephew as a girl dad. I can absolutely see it but it’s a funny image.”
Smiling, you focus back on the wall in front of you. Eddie’s uncle had come over to see the ultrasound and offered to help you guys paint the spare bedroom. The guys had already moved out all the instruments and cleared the room while Dylan helped place the tap along the base boards. While the boys went to go grab some food, you took advantage of the time to help Wayne.
The further along you got in in your pregnancy the more protective they became.
“Baby! Get down from there. Wayne, don’t let her do that.” Eddie quickly shuffled to you, gripping your forearm as he guided you down the two-step ladder.
“Edward, she’s two feet off the ground! She’s fine.”, his uncle laughed.
“We’ve been calling you for a few minutes. We brought back some burgers.”
“Oh, thank God. I’m starving!” He grins at you as you three descend the stairs.
“She was on the stepstool painting.” Steve turned from Eddie to you with a playfully frustrated look on his face.
“Tattletale.” You throw a napkin at him as Dylan laughs.
“Have you guys thought of a name yet?”, Wayne asks.
“I like Arwen.” You and the metalhead smile at your son as the other man looks around confused.
“The pointy eared girl in Lord of the Rings.”, Eddie explains as Steve nods. “We, honestly, haven’t really talked about it. What were you going to name him if he was a girl?”
Your grin grows already knowing where Dylan will take this. “I swear this is a coincidence but I always liked the name Lily.”
“Like Harry Potter’s mom!”
“Yes, weirdo BUT like I said. Coincidence.”, you laugh. “What about you guys?”
“His mom wanted to name him Leanne, if he was a girl.” Wayne smirks at Eddie’s scrunched face.
“I’ve always liked Aurora.” Steve looked up from his plate to realize everyone was looking at him. “What? My mom showed me that Disney movie when I was a kid where the girl gets cursed if she pokes her finger on the wheel thing.”
“On the wheel thing…”
“Shut up, Eddie. You mean Sleeping Beauty.”
“Yeah! Thank you, baby. Anyway, she dances to that song “Once Upon a Dream”. When I was in school, I always wanted to be the prince dancing with the girl but…no. Munson will laugh at me.”
“Steven, I promise if he does, I’ll throw him out.” Eddie stuck his tongue out at his uncle who responded with a joking stern stare.
Steve sighs as he looks over at you. “Since I found out you were pregnant, I started picturing me singing it to her.”
“No…you can’t do this to me. I have all the hormones.” You smile as you hold back your tears, walking over to give him a hug.
“I like Aurora.” Eddie smiles as he winks at you both.
“Me to.”, Dylan adds as Steve reaches over to ruffle his hair.
The doorbell suddenly rings causing both boys to begin getting out of their seats.
“Oh my god. I’m pregnant not broken. I’m standing! Let me answer the door.” Shaking your head at their antics, you head to see who it is. Your smile fades as you breathe a sigh, opening the front door, and stepping outside. “What can I do for you, Mr. Harrington?”
“Is my son here?”
“Why? What do you need from him?”
“Just get my son, please.”
“No.”
“Excuse me?!”
“I said no. I’m not going to let you hurt him. He’s been doing so much better without you constantly belittling him.”
“Are you fucking kidding me? He was doing just fine before you stuck your claws in him, you gold digging whore!”
“Really? Is that best you got? I love your son and I have never once asked him for a dime.”
Mr. Harrington scoffed as he pushed past you into the house, marching towards the kitchen.
“Dad? What are you—”
“Steven, we need to talk.”
“Uh, Dylan. Why don’t you come help me finish painting the wall upstairs?” Wayne reached for the boy’s hand who immediately pulled it away, placing himself at Steve’s side.
“No! You’re rude and we don’t talk to family the way you talk to him.”
Steve’s dad turns to glare at you. “Definitely your kid.”
“He actually picked up that protectiveness from your son.”
Steve lifts Dylan in his arms and passes him to Eddie’s uncle. “I got this, little man. Thank you for standing up for me.” The little boy’s eyes stay on his as Wayne carries him up the stairs. “Why don’t you help them, honey.”
“Steve Harrington, your insane if you think I’m leaving you down here.”
His head cranes to find Eddie, who nods in affirmation as he leans against the counter.
“So… she’s pregnant? Who’s the father?”
“We are.”
Mr. Harrington laughs like his son had just said the stupidest thing he had ever heard. “Steven, come on. That’s just not reality.”
“Oh, thanks for that. Her mom already beat you to that lecture though.”
“Ah, yes. It seems your mother has become closer with hers. They spend almost every evening at the country club racking up my credit card bill. Like mother like daughter.”, he rolls his eyes.
“Dad, what the fuck are you talking about?”
“Apparently, I’m a gold-digging whore according to your father.” You walked past him to stand by Eddie, seeing his palms clench against counter.
Fire ignited in Steve’s eyes as he took a step forward. “You called her that?”
“I call it like a see it. Look at her. She could barely afford to take care of a child by herself. That’s why she was living in those god awful apartments. Thankfully, she landed in the lap of a Harrington and got pregnant!”
“So…what am I to her then? A consolation prize?”, Eddie asks sarcastically. “Because I definitely don’t come from money. I mean I am sexier than him but...”
“Eddie…”, you chided.
“I’m making a point here, sweetheart.”
“If I were you…I would leave now and get a paternity test before she takes your last name.” Your eyes widen as both boys look at him with confusion. Mr. Harrington turns to face you. “You haven’t told him?”
“Please… don’t do this. I was going to surprise them.”
“That’s why I came over. To warn and protect my son.” He fishes into his jacket pocket and pulls out some photocopied papers as he tosses them towards Steve. “Thankfully, I have friends in some pretty high places.”
You hang your head as you feel yourself start to cry.
“What is this, Y/N?”
“I…I was doing research into if I could put both your last names on the baby’s birth certificate and…and I found out that in Indiana I can change my last name if I file some paperwork. I put in a request last week to get that started…to change my last name to Munson-Harrington.” Your eyes find theirs as you shrug. “I wanted to surprise you.”
Steve’s arms wrapped around you as he pulled you to his chest. “Honey, I love it. You know you don’t have to do that, right?”
“I know. I just thought it would make it more official, I guess.”
Eddie kissed your temple as he placed his hand on your hip, tugging you closer to his side. Steve turned to face his father. “Get out of my house.”
“Steven—”
“Get. Out. You insulted the woman I love and were disrespectful to me and my family. I won’t tolerate it.”
“Look at you still playing the family man. Fine. Have it your way but don’t you dare come begging me for a handout when you realize handling TWO children, especially a baby, is too hard and expensive. You are NOT ready for this, son.”
“Not even a little but that’s what being a parent is. The only things I do know are that I love her so fucking much and I’m never going to let her grow up the way I did.”
His father shot him one last dirty look before spinning on his heels and slamming the front door as he left.
“Well look at you, you sexy bastard.” Eddie clapped as Steve turned back to you two. “Good job, Harrington.”
The man smiled till he noticed you were making a funny face. “Y/N? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong…just weird. I forgot what that felt like.” You reached for his palm and placed it on the side of your belly. Steve eyebrows raised when felt something push against it. “She started moving when you told your dad to leave. I think she’s proud of you to.”
His face lights up as he descends to his knees in front of you. “I’m sorry you had to hear that.”, Steve whisper, grinning from ear to ear as she pushes against him again. “Eddie, feel this.” He tugs the boy’s wrist, placing it where his head at been.
“I don’t feel anything.” As he spoke, the baby kicked again making you giggle.
“Well, she likes you two.”
#############
“Hey, dude. I’m going to try something. You want to come help me?”, Eddie asked.
Dylan nodded excitedly as he bounced on your bed closer to where he was sitting at with his guitar. The metalhead grabbed your hands and dramatically pulled you to a sitting position making you smile.
“Ok, I know mom will like this but let’s see how little Ro feels.” He reached for the little boy’s palms and placed them in a random spot on your stomach. Steve rounded the corner, leaning on the doorframe of the bathroom as Eddie began to strum the instrument and softly sing.
“Loving can hurt, loving can hurt sometimes But it's the only thing that I know When it gets hard, you know it can get hard sometimes It is the only thing makes us feel alive.”
You feel movement in your tummy but it’s not enough for Dylan to feel it to. Gently, you slide his hands across your skin to where she was, hoping she’d do it again.
“We keep this love in a photograph We made these memories for ourselves Where our eyes are never closing Hearts are never broken And time's forever frozen, still…”
His wide eyes meet yours as the baby kicks against his palm. “Eddie! She likes it!”, Dylan exclaimed as he put his other hand down to feel more.
“So you can keep me Inside the pocket of your ripped jeans Holding me closer 'til our eyes meet You won't ever be alone, wait for me to come home”
“Wow. Does it hurt?”
“No. It just feels weird.”
“It looks like that scene from Alien.”, Eddie grins as he places his guitar to the side.
Dylan flashes you a confused face and you immediately cut him off before he can ask. “It’s a movie and NO you can’t watch it.” You turn to jokingly glare at Steve. “And don’t you dare show it to him. I don’t care what Robin says.”
He holds up his hands defensively as he jumps into the bed, sitting cross-legged beside you.
“Steve, why is your dad so mean?”
“Whoa, where did that come from?”, you ask.
“I’m just…curious. He shouts loud like my dad. Maybe YOU should take time away from him too!”
Steve chuckles under his breath. “I think that’s a good idea, kid. I…I have no idea why he’s like that. Maybe because his dad wasn’t so great either.”
His tiny face scrunches together as Dylan looks at you before addressing the man again. “I don’t get it. If his dad was mean to him…and your dad is mean to you…you’re not mean.”
“Jesus Christ, dude, you have a big brain.”, Eddie reaches over and lightly hits the boy’s knee making him smile.
“I was mean for a while. Then my senior year I decided I didn’t want to be like that anymore.”
“Oh.”, he nodded as he turned to sit in Steve’s lap. “What about you, Eddie? I haven’t met your dad. Is he mean?”
“Oh, baby. I don’t think we should—”
“Hey, hey. It’s okay. He’s actually never really asked before. I don’t mind.”, Eddie grinned comfortingly at you before face Dylan. “Yeah, kid. My dad was…a total butthead. But I moved in with Wayne when I was a couple of years older than you and he’s the best dad I could have asked for.”
“Why did you move in with him?”
“Um…” He glances at you making sure it’s ok to tell him and you slightly nod as you reach for his hand. “My dad…did something he shouldn’t have…and went to jail.”
Dylan focuses his eyes in front of him, pouting out his lips as he thinks. You reach out and run your fingers through his hair. “What’s running through your mind, weirdo?”
“Sirius.” He says in a matter-of-fact tone as he points to Eddie and Steve.
You can’t help but giggle, loving the way your son chooses to understand things. “Go get it.”
He smiles as he slides off the man’s lap and runs to his bedroom. “What is he doing?”
Dylan comes back into your room and hops back onto the bed, flipping through the pages of the Harry Potter book he had grabbed. You look over it with him, pointing when you find what he’s looking for. He clears his throat as he begins to read out loud.
“I want you to listen to me very carefully, Harry. You're not a bad person. You're a very good person, who bad things have happened to. Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.”
Eddie chuckles as he tugs on the boy’s arm, pulling him in for a hug. “You’re a good kid, you know that?”
Steve’s phone vibrates and he leans over to grab it from the nightstand. You notice his face fall before he sighs. “I’ll, um…I’ll be right back.”
The metalhead follows him with his eyes before glancing at you and gesturing for you to follow him. “Come on, dude. Let’s get you ready for bed.”
############
“No, mom. I’m not going to let him…Mom, you don’t understand…”
You found Steve outside on the back patio, pacing as he talked on his phone. He seemed so flustered as he spoke and it broke your heart. He deserved better.
“Because I’m not going to let him come into MY house and disrespect me and my family… I don’t fucking care! Let him cut me off. He keeps threatening to do it. Let him fucking follow through!” He paused when saw you watching him and you immediately fell into his arms, wrapping your own tightly around his waist. His hand pressed you closer to his chest as he rested his cheek in your hair.
“Mom, look, I don’t know what you want from me. It is what it is. I love Y/N and Eddie. I’m not leaving them to make dad happy so he’ll give me an inheritance. He should want to that anyway so his grandson and granddaughter are taken care of.”
Steve sighed as you heard silence on the other end. “Yeah…we’re having a girl by the way. Her name is Aurora. Congratulations.” With that he hung up and placed the phone on the banister.
“Steve, I’m so sorry.”
“Naw, baby. I’m not.” He backed into one of the patio chairs and pulled you onto his lap. “If they want to be that way that’s fine. I have you guys.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.” He smiled as you kissed his forehead.
“Hey, um, I wanted to talk to you and Ed about something—”
“Talk to Ed about what?”, Eddie asks.
“Geez, like fucking Beetlejuice. Say his name three times and he’ll appear.” The metalhead flashed the boy a cheesy grin as he stepped off the patio into the grass. “Where are you going?”
“I need a smoke and you need to talk so I’m getting away from our pregnant wife so both tasks can be completed.” He lights his cigarette and gestures towards Steve. “Go on.”
“So, I was thinking, my dad is an asshole but he is right. My salary isn’t enough to really do much when it comes to supporting us. I mean out of the three of us I make the least.”
“Baby, you know that doesn’t matter to us.”
“I know, honey, but I want to do more. Not just financially but in life. I was thinking, maybe, I could try applying to school again.”
You and Eddie smile at each other run your fingers through his hair. “What were you thinking about getting a degree in?”
“I don’t know. I mean I’m good with kids. I was thinking about possibly teaching.”
“That sounds like a great idea, Harrington.”
“Yeah? I figure I can go part time and—”
“Don’t overload yourself, Steve. Of course, I want this for you but I don’t want your burn out either.”
“We’ll figure it out, princess. Just one thing at a time. He said it’s something he wanted to do. He hasn’t even applied yet.”
You nod as you lean against Steve’s shoulder.
“Can we talk about one more thing that we haven’t really gotten to focus on since Harrington’s dad did his little emotional drive by?” You both laugh as he continues. “What did you find out, Y/N, about putting our names on the baby’s birth certificate?”
“I found out that I can give her your last names…” You sit up and rise to your feet. “But only me and one of you can be put on the document itself.”
“So we DO need to get a paternity test.” Eddie stomped out his cigarette before picking it up and bringing it to the ashtray.
“I’m sorry.” The metalhead came up and pulled you to his chest. “It feels wrong. I wish I hadn’t fucked up so we could have done this the right way.”
“Define ‘right way’ in our dynamic.”, Steve chuckles as he stands and encircles you in his arms as well. “It’s ok, sweetheart. Like we said, she’s OUR daughter.”
Eddie kisses your forehead as he moves to open the backdoor for you. “That paperwork that you filed for your last name? How long does that take?”
“A few months they said. There are a few things they need to go over and some more papers I need to fill out. It doesn’t entitle me to anything and I’m not sure why your father thinks it does but”, you shrug.
“Honey, even without our last names you’re definitely entitled to everything. You and Eddie…Anything that’s mine is yours.” You smile as Steve winks.
“Aw. How sweet it is to be loved by you, Harrington.” The man hangs his arm around the boy’s neck. “I’d say dido but I don’t have much. The guitar would go to the kid as well as my D & D set. Hm… Oh! Babe, you can have my leather jacket and Steve can take my stash.”
“Oh my god! You both are a mess.”

Tumblr media
There’s no good reason for you to be lying in bed like you are. You know this, and yet you can’t fathom doing anything else either. You don’t want to do anything else.
Nothing sounds even remotely pleasing other than lying here, staring at your ceiling or out the window. Every now and then some kids will pass by as they ride bikes and their excited chatter brings a small smile to your face. You remember when you and your friends were younger, when things were simple.
What ever happened to the easy flow of life - when you could be entertained by simply going outdoors and when you didn’t have a thousand worries and doubts circling your mind?
When - and how - did things change so vastly? Things used to be okay. You didn’t feel like a nuisance to yourself. Now, however, you feel like you can barely take a step forward without falling into three walls you’ve built up yourself.
A soft knock to your door fills the emptiness of your room, pulling you from your mind for a moment. You don’t feel like getting up to answer the door, but you also don’t have the energy to call out to whoever is on the other side.
“You in there, honey?”
You can feel your lips quirk up slightly at Eddie’s voice. He’s been your closest friend for as long as you’ve known him, having spent a lot of time in the trailer park where he lived when you were younger.
Your parents had divorced when you were five, and while your mother held custody of you, you preferred being with your dad. He loved having you over too, so you spent a lot of time with him in his trailer as a kid.
He had become friends with Wayne pretty quickly, though. In fact, him and your father hung out so frequently that Wayne became a second father figure in your life. He’d be just as proud of you when you brought home an A or would be just as excited to hear about your latest field trip as your own father. He even started getting you small gifts for holidays and birthdays.
Therefore, it made complete sense that you’d be close with Eddie after he moved in with Wayne. Sure, there might have been some tension at first with Eddie being upset he had to move and being jealous that his uncle was so fond of you, but it didn’t last long.
As Eddie told you years later, after your father left town and you only came to the trailer park for him and Wayne, it was “impossible to dislike you” with the way you’re so kind and easily excitable. It’s “endearing” apparently.
“Y/n?” He softly questions, carefully opening your door to find you curled up in your sheets.
“What’re you doing, sweetheart?”
“Jus’ hanging out.” You mumble, watching him move across the room towards you. You barely move, even as he squished himself onto the bed beside you.
“That so?”
He watches as you nod, not bothering to say anything else as you shift ever so slightly on the bed to get comfier.
“I haven’t heard anything from you yet this weekend, honey. You seemed off these last few days at school, too. I was worried…wanted to see if you were okay.”
“I’m okay, Eds. Just tired…worn out.”
“Yeah? Well, do you mind if I hang out for a while?”
You shake your head, watching as he smiles softly. Taking off his vest and jacket, you hum lightly as he settles in beside you, wrapping you up tight in his arms.
It’s nice having the weight of his body on you. Not to mention how his scent seems to surround you, bringing you a sense of peace and safety.
The two of you lay like this for a while, just enjoying the silence that the two of you rarely get. Eddie starts playing with your hair at some point, twisting the ends around his fingers as he holds you.
It’s not until he presses a kiss to your shoulder do either of you start a conversation again, and even then it’s him that starts talking.
“Wayne’s been worried about you. Says that you’ve been too quiet whenever you’ve been over, which he’s pointed out hasn’t been too frequent lately.”
“‘M sorry. Everything’s just been…a lot.” You sigh, staring ahead at your wall as you hold onto his arm that keeps you pressed up against his chest.
“No need to be sorry, sweetheart. We just want to make sure things are okay.”
You nod, understanding him, but not able to iterate what you’ve been thinking and feeling. Not easily, at least.
“Are things okay?”
It takes a moment and a heavy breath, but you murmur out a ‘no,’ tears welling in your eyes with no warning.
“No?”
“No. I’m…I’m really tired, Eds. Feels like…like I can’t do anything b-but lie in bed.”
“I hate it.” You murmur, hot tears falling over your waterline as you take a shaky breath.
“Hey. It’s okay, honey. Shh.” He soothes, trying to calm you down the slightest bit so you can breathe.
He hates seeing you so upset but he has very little idea how to comfort you. He understands that you’re depressed, having been through the same thing shortly after he moved here, but he’s not sure what will help you.
“I hate it, Eddie. My…my head never stops. It’s just o-one thought after another. There…there’s no break.”
“I just…I feel so alone.” You whisper, but he hears you.
“Hey. I know it feels it, sweetheart, but you’re not alone. You never were, and never will be.”
“I am never leaving your side, and neither is Wayne. You’re stuck with us, honey, whether you like it or not.” Eddie teases, squeezing you lightly as he presses another kiss to your shoulder.
“I feel empty, Eddie. There’s just, so much, going on in my head that it like-“
“Cancels out?”
“Yeah.” You breathe, body relaxing in his arms as this little weight seems to dissipate.
“I know. I get it, sweetheart. I do, and I’m so sorry you’ve been feeling this way. It’s not fair, but I’m here.”
“It’s better with you here, Eds.”
“Yeah?”
“Mhm. You make me feel safe.” You admit, absentmindedly curling in closer to him as he smiles, squeezing you tighter.
“I’m glad, honey. You are safe with me. Always have been and always will be.” He smiles, pulling you even closer until his body practically covers yours, but you’re not complaining in the slightest.
His weight seems to hold all the floating pieces of your being together, letting them mend and mold back into a whole person as his warmth seeps into your chest. It ignites your heart, letting you feel something other than the cold emptiness that’s filled your chest for the last few weeks. Eddie makes you feel something, and you’re pretty sure that feeling is completeness tinged with love.
You love him, and you’re not afraid to admit that to yourself. He is your rock, your wings, and your home all in one person.

rumspringa (fic requests open)
“Okay.” Billy’s voice, distant from the kitchen. Steve loops his keys on the hook by the door, hears Billy say, “Okay. Yeah. Thank you. Thanks — thanks for calling.” in the quietest voice before hanging up the phone with the softest click.
“Billy?” Steve calls, adjusting his hold on the paper bag, wandering deeper into the house. Billy doesn’t answer. When Steve enters the kitchen, Billy is standing by the phone, one hand still on the receiver, staring at it as if it had grown teeth, as if it might lash out if he doesn’t keep it contained. “Babe?” Steve says, sliding the groceries on the counter, shrugging off his jacket. Billy doesn’t seem to hear him, doesn’t even seem to know that Steve is there. Billy’s hand falls away from the phone, his head lowers. He takes in a shaky breath. Steve frowns, rounds the counter, asks, “Hey, hon, everything okay? You’re kind of freaking me out here.”
Billy opens his mouth to speak but no words come out. He clears his throat, licks his lips, murmurs, “Uh.” His eyes are misty when he raises them to Steve’s. “My dad died.” His brow creases like he doesn’t quite believe what he’s saying, like he’s trying to make sense of the words coming out of his own mouth. He repeats it, because maybe saying it twice will make it real, will jerk him out of this strange, dazed feeling. “My dad’s dead.”
Steve falls silent. He fishes for words, digs deep in the recesses of his stunned brain, but all that comes out is, “Oh, Billy.”
He reaches for Billy. Billy steps away. A pang rings deep Steve’s chest, echoes of earlier days, the days when Billy was all thorns and rough edges. Steve steps closer and this time Billy lets him put a hand on his shoulder.
Billy turns his head, zeroes in on the calendar tacked to the wall. It’s 1999. The sun slants through the tiny window over the sink; in the distance, waves crash against the shore. There are kids on the beach, racing into the sea, their small shadows swallowed up by seafoam. He can hear them shriek, laugh, even so far away, even over the crackling radio perched on the countertop. It’s October, but someone forgot to tell the west coast that autumn had settled in. The thermometer by the window is still pushing eighty degrees.
It’s been thirteen years. This strikes Billy all at once. It’s been thirteen years since he tossed that stupid Hawkins-green graduation cap into the air, thirteen years since he’d said goodbyes, since he’d vanished under the cover of night, the Camaro stuffed full of boxes scrounged from the back of Melvald’s, Steve at his side, humming along to the radio.
Billy hasn’t thought of Neil Hargrove since then. He’d let him fade into TV static, into background noise, until he wasn’t even that anymore — not a memory, hardly a person, just a dog-eared footnote faded with age, barely legible under pencil marks and smudged ink.
“That was, uh,” Billy says, still staring at the calendar, all the days Steve meticulously marked off in black Sharpie. “That was my uncle. He’s the one who found him. He…he hadn’t heard from him in…in a week? But, uh, he went on benders. A lot, recently, so he wasn’t, um…wasn’t worried. But he went over to check, and Dad was — he was face down on the couch. Beer bottles everywhere. He was…he was still holding a whiskey bottle by the neck. All the booze just…dried up in the carpet.” Billy looks at Steve, eyes wet, wide, childlike. “He’d been dead the whole time.”
Steve is quiet, absorbing it all. Billy sniffles, swipes at his nose with the back of his hand, ducks his head. He laughs a dry, sad sort of laugh that turns into something like a sob and Steve doesn’t hesitate; he gathers Billy into his arms, holds him there, rocks him. Billy’s shoulders shake as he cries against Steve’s shoulder, Steve’s hand on his hand, fingers threaded through his hair, holding him steady. It’s only a few minutes before Billy calms down and Steve asks, “What are you feeling?”
“I don’t know.” Billy shakes head, pulls slightly away. Steve runs his thumb across Billy’s cheek, wiping away lingering tears. “I don’t know,” Billy repeats, and Steve pulls him in again, rubs Billy’s back.
When they’d first moved, in that very first studio apartment with the roach infestations and the elderly neighbor who always dropped home cooked leftovers at their door, Billy had been jumpy. Any little rap at the door, any rumble of truck tires, any unexpected noise had his heart rate spiking, palms sweaty, his whole body on edge. Steve held him close every night, stroked his hair and, as Billy slowly drifting to sleep, whispered, “You’re safe. He can’t hurt you anymore. You’re safe.”
In the middle of their kitchen, Billy feels almost as small as he did back then. Steve squeezes him tight, kisses Billy temple and repeats assurances he hasn’t had to say in years, and this time he knows that he means them, that this is a real promise he can make. “He can’t hurt you anymore.”
And Billy’s voice cracks when he says, “I know.” Relief washes over him. He presses himself against Steve, gripping so tight he fears he might leave bruises, but he can’t stop, can’t let go. Steve holds him and Billy lets him. His voice is small and relieved as he says, again, “I know.”
