US Harm Reduction Resources
continually updating, not a complete list. feel free to add on any resources you find helpful.
Free Safer Supplies:
Each organization will have different supplies, but generally, harm reduction orgs provide things like syringes, safer snorting + smoking kits, Narcan, condoms, lube, and wound care supplies. Each org has different policies for how to get supplies--some do deliveries, some have drop in centers, some only do one to one needle exchange, some are more flexible.
Next Distro: mail based syringe provider for certain states. Also mails free Narcan.
NASEN: national map of syringe providers
a lot of harm reduction collectives aren't going to have their information listed on big national websites--it's always worth searching "harm reduction in my area" and seeing what's around you. Even if you don't live in a big city, there might be a harm reduction organization in your state that can help you find someone closer to you. there's a lot of rad people doing underground work who want to be there to help you who aren't as easy to find online. If there's street medic collectives, mutual aid groups or groups like Food not Bombs in your area, you can ask people in them who might know where to find harm reduction services in your area!
Drug Users Unions:
Drug users unions are activist groups made for people who use drugs, by people who use drugs! Drug users unions do advocacy work to end criminalization, as well as providing vital community support. Many drug users unions are also inclusive of sex workers and work to decriminalize sex work as well. You can search for "drug users union" in your state.
Urban Survivors Union: National, has resources for creating drug users union
Chosen Few: Drug users union for Black drug users in DC
San Francisco Drug users union
Sex Work Advocacy Groups:
Organizations that do decrim advocacy and provide support for sex workers.
Sex Worker Outreach Project USA- National, has chapters in many states.
Black Sex Worker Collective
Sex Workers Project
How to Use Safely:
Guides, videos, toolkits for safer use!
Harm Reduction Coalition Resource Library
Getting Off Right: A Safety Manual for Injection Drug Users

Since Martha Wells decided to confuse everyone, I made a chart.
Feel free to save and share this chart wherever you want, I don't need credit.
Tumblr media
[ID: A chart showing the differences between an android and a cyborg.
The Left side is pale blue, and is labeled, "Android", with the explanation: "A robot or other artificial creation designed to mimic the appearance of a human. Can be made of mechanical parts, synthetic, or a mix of the two."
Below is a picture of Nick Valentine, from Fallout 4. Nick is an android with grey skin that is damaged in some sections, showing the mechanical parts of his skull and part of his neck. His eyes glow yellow.
More text beneath the image of Nick reads "Other notable androids in popular fiction…"
And lists: "Murderbot from The Murderbot Diaries book series, Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation show, C3PO, from Star Wars."
The right side of the chart is pale orange, and titled, "Cyborg", with the explanation: "Any biological organism given cybernetic enhancenements, usually in the form of prosthetic limbs, but can include synthetic organs or sensory aids. Literally cybernetic + oragnism", with "CYB" in cybernetic, and "org" in organism in all caps, underlined, and purple for emphasis.
Below this is a picture of Cyborg, or Victor Stone, from the DC Comics. Cyborg is a Black man with many parts of his body, including half his face, replaced by cybernetic prosthetics of blue and grey metal.
Below him is a list: "Other notable cyborgs in popular fiction…" listing, "Luke and Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars, Tony Stark and Bucky Barnes from the MCU, the Cybermen from Doctor Who, and the Borg from Star Trek", with "(literally, their name is just 'cyborg' without the cy)" in parenthesis for the Borg.
End ID.]
Murderbot is an android, specifically an androgynoid since it's designed to look like a genderless human. It would only be a cyborg if it started out fully human and was then later given mechanical parts. It was created from the getgo as a combination of mechanical parts, cloned human tissue, and artificial intelligence. It's not a cyborg, it's an androgynoid.
Gurathin is a cyborg, because he is a human who was then augmented using technology.
In general, cyborgs are born. Androids are created.
Anything, including an alien or an animal can be a cyborg. Anything can also be an android, but the term android specifically means "robot designed to look like a man" as in a male, not just a general human, hence why Murderbot's an androgynoid. A robot designed to look specifically like a woman would be a gynoid, and so on and so forth. There are pretty much infinite options here.
(Edit 5/9/23: I created the term "anthroid" as a catchall term for any robot designed to look like a human, without having to specify gender each time. Go. Be free from male default language.)
So if you really wanted to do good worldbuilding for an alien species, they'd have their own specific term for robots they build to look like themselves.
a robot designed to look like a spider, for an example, could be called an arachnoid. You may also notice the similarity to the word "humanoid".
Anthroid = robot (or other artificial construct if your universe has magic) that is humanoid. Android = robot designed to look like a human man. Gynoid = robot designed to look like a human woman.
Cyborg = any biological organism given any mechanical enhancements or augmentations. Yes, including something as "not dramatic enough" as a prosthetic eye with a high tech camera in it.
(The Daleks and also Geordi la Forge are also cyborgs, I knew I was forgetting obvious examples)

What are you doing to stop pregnancy related deaths? An American sprinter Bowie died recently because of pregnancy? what can we do to stop it from happening?
We work with orgs like Black Mamas Matter for reproductive justice & birth justice for Black women. People forget that reproductive justice includes birth justice, not just abortion justice. This is also an area of special interest to the folks at Pro-Black Pro-Life and my friend, doula Constance Becker. Some good books to read include Revolutionary Mothering by Paulina Gumb. We also put on "Repro Share Fairs" in DC where we go to Black neighborhoods and educate women on resources available to them, such as Unity Healthcare.
The problem is, while the egregious maternal mortality rate among Black women is a result of systemic barriers, patriarchy, and racism, what justice looks like for each pregnant person is individual. There is no blanket solution.
Here's what killed Tori and her baby: she was giving birth alone. She was underweight. Her blood pressure spiked suddenly and she went into a coma, and she didn't wake up.
My questions for her justice: why was she alone? There is so much stigma against pregnancy in athletes. Was she hiding the pregnancy? Where was the baby's father? Why wasn't anyone checking regularly on a woman who was 8 months pregnant? Where was her support system? Why was she so thin, even for a pro-runner? Why didn't she call anyone when she realized she was in labor? Tori's death is a tragedy, and preventable.
Let me be absolutely clear: abortion would not have solved the problems that lead to her death and the death of her baby. Abortion would have killed her baby and still have left her alone and struggling. It is possible she still would have died of eclampsia in a later pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia is very treatable and preventable without abortion. A D&X abortion at 8 months has a high likelihood of uterine perforation and sepsis.
Black women deserve to have their babies. Had Tori Bowie had timely and adequate maternity care, prenatal care, and a social support system, she and her baby would not have fallen through the cracks.
If you know a pregnant person who is alone in your community, be that support system. Check on them regularly in person. Go with them to their healthcare appointments. Help them find a hospital they trust, or a doula for homebirth. Know where your local pregnancy resources are and how to contact them. Be their advocate. Help them navigate the system.
Help fight the stigma of pregnancy in athletes. Be vocally supportive of pregnant athletes. Get trained in the Billings Method, which many athletes have successfully used to time their pregnancies around their trainings.
It doesn't have to be this way. We keep us safe.

What is your favorite DCMK crack theory?
Kaito's dad is Karasuma Renya, who already found Pandora and as a result de-aged when he 'died' 50+ years ago.
There's a surprising amount of evidence that lines up for it, but if it were to end up being true then that would end up greatly stunting Kaito's story if his emotional arc is intrinsically linked to Detective Conan's ending.
But may as well go over the evidence-
First of all the ties with crows. It's kinda obvious for both of them, but to summarize: the 'Karasu' in Karasuma is crow, the black organization he is the boss of is often likened to crows, and a his phone number plays the tune of 7 children (a song about crows) Meanwhile, Kuroba is 'black feathers' which crows have, and then there's the fact that Toichi is one of the most likely people to be Kaitou Corbeau (French for Crow) who while being a black Kaitou Kid also spreads Crow feathers around.
Second, I'm going to point back to Kaitou Corbeau for a sec. Sure we don't know that Corbeau is Kaitou's dad, but he's either his dad, his mom, or both; and I like those odds. So what do we know about the Black organization? They're associated with crows, they wear all black, they do crimes, and they use alcohols as codenames. Corbeau actually checks all of those boxes. Crows, Corbeau is french for crow, check. Black- Corbeau wears a Kid costume that's pure black, check. Crime, yeaah that one's a gimme. Alcohol name, there's actually a type of black wine called Corbeau.
Thirdly, Vermouth is the boss's favourite, and while that's probably because she's got her whole dealio about not aging in decades, if the Boss is Toichi then of course he favours his student over others.
Fourth, if this is the cases, it makes it more interesting that the MK and DC organizations are separate criminal groups with similar goals, because it means that the MK org were targeting the previous Kid not just because he was a pain in the ass but also because he was intimately involved with a rival group. It also explains why they haven't ever really targeted Kaito himself even though they were aware Toichi was Kid- They think that he didn't really care about his family.
Fifth, this one isn't evidence but it actually gives a good reason for why Kid cameo's in DC so often, and also would retroactively make the bit where Toichi as Kid declares young Shinichi to be his older brother while being as spooky as possible a much more interesting thing.
Of course all this has heavy implications that leads to heavy Kaito angst but.... what can I say, I like to torment characters a little bit.

The Power of Black Dissent
For years I have talked about the “power of dissent” and the act of speaking truth to power. Over the years a large part of my speaking out has specifically been through the lens of religious dissent. For this is an under-appreciated legacy that has animated Civil Rights and social justice movements all over the African Diaspora for generations and (at least) hundreds of years following enslavement of African and indigenous peoples. It is not lost to irony that I write this entry on the day after Martin Luther King, Jr.’s federal holiday; himself an activist who’s greatest known speech was due in large part to the work of A. Phillip Randolph, a Black secularist. For all that Black religion has been said to offer we would likewise be nowhere, if not for the dissenting power of non-religious, Black, secular, doubting people and their activism.
I talk about this in detail on a new podcast and since the 2010′s I have enjoyed a kind of ‘wind at my back’ through Black Nonbelievers, a leading “non-profit” social justice organization that works to reframe culture, identity and Black advocacy through the lens of religious dissent, education and representation. Since 2011 it has been a thrilling ride; one that initially gave me “a place to land” as I transitioned out of a faith tradition that demonstrably caused harm and no longer served me socially, ethically or logically. Later, after years of fellowship and feeling like Black Nonbelievers (BN) was a place of refuge and strength-I sought to lead the local group in Washington, DC with the hopes of amplifying our visibility, legislative advocacy and community outreach.
I am an activist. And I have worked in Black empowerment spaces, groups and non-profit organizations for most of my life; from being an actor in Black community theater (DC); to being a Treasurer and later President of the Black Student Union at Berklee College of Music in my undergrad years; to working at the “College Path” non-profit org at the YMCA helping Black and Latinx youth prepare for college and professional careers; to being a professional music educator and even  Minister of Music for 20+ years working with-and mentoring young people all over the East Coast...working and “holding space” for community, education, enlightenment and Black uplift has been a lifestyle throughout my life. Therefore, being the Director of Black Nonbelievers of DC was a natural outgrowth of previous work and identity. And it felt authentic...especially as a nonbeliever.
I had heard some “things” here and there; gripes from some people who came and went from the org. Most of those gripes did not check-out and were often framed and viewed as in-fighting by incredible people; other gripes were at worst, unresolved or un-investigable. I focused on my local group and the people within it, and we were good. Overall, I genuinely felt comfortable with the BN landscape and justified my continued work in the org. We did good work I thought; liberation work, Black empowerment work, educational work. That said, I quietly stopped donating to the org around 2019/20-partly because my “donation” was already paid for with my labor (e.g. time, volunteering, attending legislative and interfaith events on Capitol Hill, public organizing, marching in the streets, etc.), but also because deep down inside I started to feel something wasn’t quite right with the management and transparency of the org’s resources. Looking back, that was my mistake.
Still, I continued to work for my local group. Because I took that work SERIOUSLY. I still enjoy(ed) our fellowship, the “work” and the overall sense of affirmation, belonging and “wind at my back” that came from an established platform like BN. Our work was noble, empowering and it made my own conversations about non-belief with my family and outsiders easier to have than they would have been if I were just a lone Black atheist ranting about atheism and church/state separation.
So I stayed.
_____
Given all that, one could understand why after over 10 years of membership and 5 years of being an “Affiliate Director” within this organization, I was devastated to learn that people were in fact, demonstrably being harmed within the fellowship. Black Nonbelievers, it came to my attention this December by Mandisa Thomas herself, was actively being corrupted by its own head of leadership-in a deliberate and unconscionable way-routinely, for personal gain.
As I have learned from December 2022 until (literally) yesterday (1/16/23), the “goings-on” behind the scenes with BN founder and president Mrs. Thomas are of an unacceptable nature and magnitude. They are not merely incidental or “personal”. They are systemic and they are long-standing.
Excerpted from the preliminary findings of the BNDC Incident Report (Dec 2022):
Tumblr media
I attest to the following:
That all six (6) organizers during our initial investigative process agreed Mrs. Mandisa Thomas’s alleged behaviors were credible in their claims, and valid and unacceptable for the organization going forward. To varying degrees, myself along with all six organizers were witnesses-to these behaviors and/or personally informed of them by Mrs. Thomas herself. Furthermore, that following the departure of five (5) organizers, I continued our investigation of Mrs. Mandisa Thomas to verify warrant for our decision(s).
Regarding Black Nonbelievers of DC (BNDC), these and other related claims, the following actions are credible and made demonstrable. That Mrs. Mandisa Thomas:
Routinely blurred personal and professional lines with both organizers and members concerning detailed sexual histories.
Promoted consensual sexual interaction(s) of two or more members at official events (e.g. BNSeaCon).
Misappropriated organizational resources to facilitate or engage in consensual interactions with BN member(s).
Manipulated key narratives to gain loyalties and leverage collegial support for desired personal outcome(s) among members and organizers.
Arbitrarily expelled members from the organization and its events without board or leadership review.
Arbitrarily expelled members from the organization and events without board or leadership review due to private sexual and/or romantic dynamics.
Provided “a safe and nurturing space for Black people without faith and leaving religion” contingent upon adherence to romantic dynamics favorable to Mrs. Thomas.
Neglected to publish or implement quarterly reviews of organizational health and sustainability for BNDC affiliate members and organizers.
Neglected publishing or implementing method(s) of impartial review for grievances among leaders and members.
Neglected publishing or implementing means of financial transparency and review to board or organizers.
Failing to heed advice from organizers regarding public confrontation of BN member(s) and associates on private relationships between Mrs. Thomas and a BN member.
Regarding acts, these conclusions implicate Mrs. Thomas’ indiscretions of a personal or intimate nature with (1) members (2) organizers and (3) associates, regarding (4) multiple incidents of mismanagement. These conclusions also suggest a convergence of these relationships with official BN resources used to facilitate them. In other instances, a separate but not necessarily unrelated pattern of secret expulsion from BN portrays a (5) lack of institutional safeguards and review processes for Black Nonbelievers and by extension, Black Nonbelievers of DC. These incidents-combined with an absence of transparency of resources and financial reporting for the organization and/or its affiliates merit both my departure and this report.
-Danile (”Ro”) // BNDC Affiliate Director 2017-2022 // BN Member 2011-2022
___________
There are receipts. Sadly, they keep coming.
Also excerpted from the BNDC Incident Report (re: “Supporting Documents, Item No.4″)
Tumblr media
I will not stand by -nor- stand for an organization with this brand of leadership and abuse of power. And any movement of fellow advocates, personalities and organizations that would platform or, stand-by a leader like this and deliberately choose not to publicly scrutinize these claims with haste is highly suspect of perpetuating the exact same type of malfeasance, hypocrisy and systemic rot that it seeks to publicly oppose in churches, mosques and other problematic institutions.
_________
I like ‘people work’. And as noted, my professional history of working-with and helping people dates back over thirty years. Surely, people will make mistakes; institutions will have to be checked; programs need to be evaluated and systems need regulation. But to write off these claims, as many have done (and others seem to be doing) is more than troubling inside a movement self-identified by “humanism” and higher ethics...which is what the atheist movement at large proudly claims to be doing. Furthermore, shrugging off these accounts in service of ((__insert favorite celebrity here__)) for fear of dissent, cult following and public regard, racial scarcity or “cultural diversity” bona fides is well...gross and disgusting.
Most importantly, to assemble unassuming people and White allies around you as a defense shield against claims by fellow Black people in a credible, ongoing ethics investigation whilst Black people are left victimized by your trauma is to do the exact opposite of the “Black liberation” and “empowerment” work Black Nonbelievers was founded to perform.
But...it is exactly the reason why I, and nearly all other BN affiliate directors resigned and wrote this incident report(s). Even as atheists. Especially as Black Atheists.
We dissent.

Ho Ho Ho Hello! 🎅🏻
It’s „funny“ that seemingly it was a tumblr wide bug that questions got eaten! I saw other blogs complaining about it as well!
Anyway it’s an interesting thought!
Do you have headcanons if any characters might be badly wounded or even die in the end battle? For the drama?
DCMK Exchange Secret Santa
Ugh, I thought it was just a me problem; I tried to save a partial answer as a draft and instead of saving it tumblr froze and the ask disappeared into the aether :/
So, I think there will definitely be injuries, but Gosho has not been very interested in having anyone seriously injured in a way that they don't eventually heal completely from. The sole exception is Kansuke (my beloved) who was injured pre-canon and was presumably created as a character with an injury-related disability. Gosho likes to play fast and loose with medical stuff specifically so that his characters can survive injuries with fewer effects than they'd have IRL, and I don't think he's gonna stop doing that for the finale.
As for deaths, I think there's a chance, but Gosho is, once again, much more comfortable killing people off For Real in the backstory than in the present of the story. He has done it, but a lot of the notable incidents were earlier in the series; I think as DC went on he became (understandably!) more nervous about making permanent alterations to the cast.
I think there's a very good chance that at least one of the spies will either get killed or be thought dead for an extended period of time. I think Camel is probably at the highest risk of this; I think Rei would be a narratively resonant and painful choice too but that he's too popular for Gosho to do that with. Hidemi could also be in danger, but it's been a while since she's been a foreground character and killing her off would not be as impactful now as it would have been like a decade ago.
I think probably most or all of the Japanese police will survive; Takagi's gonna have a near death experience for sure and Sato's gonna lose her mind about it for a bit but they'll both pull through. If Gosho lets the Nagano police be involved, they'll also have some close calls probably. Megure might get shot again, but again, I don't think he'll be killed or seriously injured.
Heiji is also gonna be injured, probably in a way that looks very serious, but again, I think he'll recover without issue. If KID is allowed to show up for the DC finale, he will probably seem to be dead at some point but will turn up later completely uninjured. Ran, Kogoro, and Sonoko will all be in serious peril but none of them will actually get hurt except maybe Kogoro.
As far as antagonists are concerned, I don't feel like the series can end with Gin alive. I would bet on Akai being the one to kill him, but I could be wrong. Probably several other major Black Org characters will also die (specifically of falling off something/being buried under debris/something else indirect), and I would be willing to bet that Vermouth will go out in a way that makes the police believe her dead but leaves Shinichi suspecting that she survived.
I'd *love* if Shinichi got injured in some significant way, because I think it would be symbolic of the impact of this whole thing on his life and because it would increase the Shinichi & Kansuke parallels that I live for, but I do not think it'll actually happen. Every single "Shinichi is injured in a disabling way post Black Org showdown" fanwork lives in my heart, though.
On a related note, I really feel it would be more narratively satisfying if Shinichi ended up with some sort of heart issues post-APTX-4869-cure. I know the part where the temporary cures caused heart issues/were super dangerous was just Gosho's way of making it so he could have Shinichi be fullsize occasionally while still keeping him as Conan most of the time, but at this point, with all of Ai's fussing, it'll feel a little narratively cheap to me if he goes back to being a teenager with absolutely no health complications whatsoever.
I hope you're having a wonderful day and thank you so much for the ask!

@ninjathrowingstork That was my impression also, it felt like there should have been a full JSA movie first to actually build up these characters, maybe give a stronger reason why Carter was so adamant that Adam stand down when he was defending his homeland. I wanted more backstory on him and Fate and their friendship, since they showed everyone being a team and working together, but it's just three people and we could have done with another movie first (1/)
Where they have to iron out team dynamics and lose 1-2 teammates somehow to another supervillain so we get a better motivation why it's so urgent they contain him and give us an explanation why they suddenly have jurisdiction now. Also I felt like they just dropped the whole thing about Adrianna's pendant being an heirloom and her also looking like his wife like is she also a descendant of his somehow? Or of a relative? It would have been a fun parallel to Ishmael. (2/2)
no you're so right! a JSA movie where we're properly introduced to Carter Hall and Kent Nelson and the idea of the JSA - a super powered org that answers to a governing body as opposed to the JL who answers to no one (as already established in prev DC films). Then there would be reason for the tension with Black Adam and we would understand why JSA was called in. Plus Carter Hall's backstory as an archaeologist who is actually the reincarnation of an Egyptian king is so cool!!! Could’ve had a lot of fun with that as a concept for a movie. And just Thanagarian lore is really cool and badass and necessary to establish Hawkman as a warrior who does not back down (and the like reincarnation thing is a pretty big part his character, so him being the potential death could’ve had a lot more emotional stakes if he had only just gotten his memories back??) Plus, like Dr Fate! C’mon man! So many missed opportunities there with his powers. What we got of him was really neat I just wanted more.
there were just too many characters to introduce and storylines to balance to give proper weight to any of it, which sucks because that means we also got less of Black Adam’s story which resulted in a lot of story threads being dropped too. Now, how much of this was classic WB meddling post-production issues? only time will tell. but at the moment i feel like we got half a movie and I’m still waiting on the rest.

Hello! I don't know if you stiil reading dc manga chapters. what is you take on sato-matsuda-chihaya triangle love?
(I do still love DCMK with all my heart but I flit in and out and I'm behind on all my manga right now whoops)
I had to look up her name but yeah I met her! I knew Sato and Matsuda had a vague something going on before he got exploded but I guess I haven't caught up enough to know how she fits in? I know she was Hagiwara's sister and was sorta involved with the Wild Police Story antics but... tbh when she first was introduced I heaved a big long sigh because??
Can DC please STOP introducing new mysterious characters as potential love interests/sources of conflict. I'm so tired, I want to hear about Shinichi and see the Black Org and their downfall. As much as I love the series I'm more than ready for it to end. The endless dragging and rehashing the same 'oh new character appears and is tangentially related to someone from the past and may find surprise love!' I'm exhausted, just let Shinichi grow up and marry Ran please I'm begging you Gosho, pull the fucking trigger.
