went into black adam expecting a fun dc film (which is a miracle in its own right tbqh) left the film like hey. this is a deeply anti-colonist anti-imperialist film from start to finish. i was legitimately awed by how much passion went into that message, specifically. just me leaving the theater like damn that film that made a strong point for resisting colonization and monarchism by any means necessary sure had a lot of superheroes in it

Teth Adam: so let me get this straight
Teth Adam: you chose a child - my son - to be your champion
Wizard Shazam: that’s right
Teth Adam: which led directly to my wife getting murdered
Wizard Shazam: my condolences
Teth Adam: and then to him getting assassinated?
Wizard Shazam: a terrible tragedy
Teth Adam: and then I was so grief-stricken I lost control of my powers and killed hundreds of people
Wizard Shazam: true
Teth Adam: and accidentally summoned literal demons that almost brought about the end of the world?
Wizard Shazam: that is correct
Teth Adam: and then when it came time to choose a new champion, you chose ANOTHER child?
Wizard Shazam: yes I did
Teth Adam: did you learn NOTHING from what happened to my family
Wizard Shazam: this one doesn’t have parents
Teth Adam:
Teth Adam: you MOTHERF-

“Hey everyone! I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this, because I wanted to give you all the chance to watch ‘Black Adam,’ but now that plenty of you have I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman. The image you see on this post and what you have seen on ‘Black Adam’ is just a very small taste of things to come. There’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time, but I wanted to thank you guys most of all. Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience, I promise it will be rewarded.”

Just saw Black Adam
I genuinely enjoyed it. It felt like a breath of fresh air in the comic book movie scene outside the MCU formula.
The fight scenes were stellar. The opening scene's choreography was a perfect introduction to Adam's capabilities.
The CGI use actually felt innovative and worthwhile rather than a tacked on necessity like you get in recent MCU products.
The Justice Society was so good oh my god. They did the impossible and make Hawkman a total badass. Pierce Brosnan stole every scene he was in. I could gush about Dr. Fate's scenes all day, they're so damn good.
Atom Smasher and Cyclone didn't have an arc but they contributed to some great visual set pieces at least.
While the humor sometimes clashed with the tone, it generally worked. It got some laughs out of my theatre audience. The quips were well placed.
The weakest links of the film are Dwayne Johnson's acting and the predictable story. There's one twist that's genuinely good though they spoiled it in a trailer. Nonetheless, I think the rest of the movie's features make up for these flaws.
Post-credit scene spoiler:
The colors aren't washed out. I can actually see the yellow in the emblem. He's got the cow lick. I'm dying.
