Prompt: Short reader tries to pat his head.

Malleus appeared surprised at first, given that no one had tried to reach for or pat his head, not even Lilia - at least not after Malleus became an adult.

He found your act endearing as it was rare for anyone to show affection towards him.

Smiling gently, he bent down to make it easier for you to pat his head. The prince was more than happy to accept your pats, though he didn't know the reason behind your sweet action. But he wasn't complaining.

Malleus was amused and happy as he studied your sparkling eyes. "(Y/n), you are adorable. I could consume you whole."

Shifting your eyes to Malleus, you looked at him questioningly, to which he laughed.

Jack tensed up and became uncomfortable as he was not used to displays of affection.

His first instinct was to grab your hand and glare at you, but then he remembered you were his girlfriend/boyfriend. The last thing he wanted was to scare or intimidate you.

When he saw the sparkle in your eyes, he figured it was your way to show affection. So, Jack bent down to your height and smiled, letting you pat his head.

As long as you don't try to grab or touch his ears, he will let you pat his head as much as you like.

Floyd looked at you with scrunched eyebrows as you jumped up and down with your arm stretched up. What were you trying to do?

Without warning, he grabbed you by the waist and lifted you up, making you squeal in surprise. But he helped you reach your goal, and you took that to your advantage and patted his head.

His confusion turned into amusement as he laughed. "Shrimpy, all you had to do was tell me you wanted to pat my head."

After he put you back on the ground, Floyd pinched your cheeks and harmlessly teased you about your height. "If you're gonna do that again, I will charge you for it by stealing kisses from you."

Jade observed your efforts to reach his head with an amused and curious expression. He didn't know what he did or said to where it pushed you to want to pat his head.

Seeing that the two of you were alone, Jade removed his hat and bent down to your height. He watched you with a soft smile as you enjoyed a rare moment of vulnerability and openness.

Once you were satisfied, Jade tenderly pressed his lips to your forehead. "I feel the need to borrow Floyd's words. I wish to consist you as you are too cute to resist."

Sebek was lecturing someone for stepping out of line, and once he was done, he turned to face you. He was surprised to see you standing on a chair and was about to yell at you to get down.

But when you touched his head, Sebek became silent. He was flustered and confused as he was not accustomed to such personal and sweet gestures.

Averting his eyes, Sebek tried to think of something to say to you. He didn't think yelling at you to back away would be a good idea; your head pat was a gesture of admiration for him, so he didn't want to scare you.

Once you stopped, Sebek awkwardly reached his hand to your head and gave you slightly but unintentionally rough head pats. He didn't know what else he was supposed to do.

The lion watched you struggle for a moment before you left and returned with a stepping stool. He was confused and amused, wondering what you planned to do.

When your hand touched his head, Leona stiffened and raised an eyebrow, giving you a questioning look.

He grumbled something about you trying to invade his personal space and trying to touch his ears without his permission. But deep down, he secretly appreciated the affectionate gesture.

"Herbivore, don't think you'll get away with it the next time." Though he warned you to never do that again, Leona secretly hoped you would pat his head again.

As soon as he removed his crown and let his hair down, you stepped up on his vanity mirror's stool. Vil noticed you in the reflection of the mirror and was about to ask you to get down, but then you patted his head.

Vil was surprised and taken aback, given that no one dared to invade his personal space, especially not in this manner.

Though he wasn't happy about his hair being touched, Vil found your way of showing his affection unique and cute.

His eyes remained soft, but his voice was stern. "Keep your back and shoulders straight. Your head pats are slightly rough and will damage my hair, so lighten your touch."

As he watched you follow his instructions without protest, Vil chuckled to himself. You were truly adorable.

He heard you sneaking up behind him as he examined Ortho's new armor parts but didn't think much of it. Until he heard something like constant jumping.

Turning around, Idia saw you motion him to bend down. Without thinking much, he gave in to your request. But when you patted his head, Idia squealed slightly and backed away. He was not used to physical contact and definitely not used to direct displays of affection.

You still didn't give up and got close to him with a warm smile. Idia followed your hand to his hair and watched you pat it gently.

Though frozen in place, he couldn't deny that your gesture made him feel warm and fuzzy.

As soon as he saw you jumping up with your hand stretched up, Trey knew what you were trying to do. His younger sibling had tried the same thing on him various times.

With a smile, he bent down, let you remove his hat, and pat his head until you were satisfied.

In return, he placed his hand on your head, and you expected him to give you head pats; instead, he tussled your hair, ruining your hairstyle.

When you protested, Trey laughed. "You still look cute, so why are you upset?"

Rook studied you briefly but directly asked what you were trying to do. When you told him you wanted to pat his head, he removed his hat and graciously bowed.

Giggling, you gave him a few head pats. But once you were done, Rook spoke loudly, startling you. "Mon coeur!"

With a chivalrous demeanor, the hunter got down on one knee and took your hand. He pressed his lips to the back of your hand.

His eyes sparkled as he flashed you a so-in-love smile. "Mon/Ma chéri(e), your endearing gesture had awakened my dormant heart. From this moment forth, mon coeur est à toi!"

Silver curiously watched you getting onto the garden's low retention wall. But he quickly hurried close to you when you stood up on it because he didn't want you to lose your balance and hurt yourself.

However, he didn't expect you to pat his head. For a moment, he stared at you, surprised, but soon, a gentle smile tugged on his lips.

He might not have said anything, but Silver appreciated your sweet gesture. As you patted his head, he stood still, enjoying the warmth and comfort your gesture brought to his heart.

Cater was surprised when you reached for his head and patted it in the middle of the conversation. He didn't know what he did to deserve a head pat, but Cater was happy. Out of habit, he took out his phone and snapped a selfie, capturing the moment permanently.

He pinched your cheeks. "You are too cute."

Without warning, Cater picked you up and spun you around, laughing with you. When he put you down, Cater brought his face down to your height and placed your hand on top of his head again.

Azul noticed you watching him like a hawk as he moved around his office. He wasn't sure why you were looking at him that way but didn't think much of it.

When he sat down, he saw you spring up from your seat and hurry towards him. Although, Azul never expected you wanted to pat his head.

Initially, he was surprised and tensed up but quickly regained his composure. He analyzed your intentions and wondered why you were showing his affection out of nowhere. But Azul was unable to find anything that was out of place.

The octopus sighed and chuckled as he shrugged and let you pat his head. It was just another step to deepening his connection with you, so Azul accepted your head pats quietly.

Goldsickness collection

So I bound a collection of goldsickness-centered fics and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This post is about the binding, and I'll do the fic recs in another post so they can be found separately later, but I'll still say a huge THANK YOU to the authors here for writing these and replying when I reached out!

My intention with this binding was to make a book that could look like a jewel in Thrór's treasure hoard. I wanted it to evoke opulence, so it's voluntarily very busy for the eye. The fabric is holographic golden pleather (which is so hard to take a picture of, the book actually looks darker and truly gold, but the camera shows reflections from every angle), it looks like it's shifting in the light (and it gives me a headache if I stare at it too long, but I want to stare at it, which echoes the gold getting to Thorin's head nicely). The endpapers are sparkly like silver and diamond dust, and I gilded the edges for the first time. Notice the black headbands and blue ribbon as a callback to Thorin's hair and eyes.

This fantastic fanart and its colors were part of my inspiration.

Mistakes What I learned this time

The book has flaws, of course. The main problem is that I did a straight spine instead of a round one as I usally do: I misjudged the size difference between the text block and the cover, it should have been bigger because of the added thickness of the spine. I used a fabric that's very thick and unwieldy and not made for bookbinding, so I have big prominent corners. And since this is the first time I use a guillotine, I need to loose some habits I had when typesetting to get my margins to look good without cutting. This time, I actually could cut, and it was too tight. The acrylic paint gilding isn't great either.

But!

It's fine. It's a small book, but all the text I wanted to preserve is there, it's beautiful to me, and I'm very proud!

“Sharecropper” (1952 - Elizabeth Catlett) / “Lustmord” (1993 - Jenny Holzer)

SHARECROPPER: [no additional commentary provided]

LUSTMORD: I'm submitting lustmord by jenny holzer! It's an art piece about rape during war, written as a response to the crimes against women during the breakup of Yugoslavia. There's three different mediums: public projection, ink on skin, and engravings on silver bands wrapped around human bones. Each piece was made by taking three poems that Jenny Holzer wrote about rape (one from the perspective of the rapist, one from the victim, and one from a witness), and then displaying a line from each, so that the viewer doesn't know who's point of view it's from. Seeing the tattoos specifically (since that's what I saw first and what I'm most able to speak on), it fucks you up by asking you to consider what emotions are "appropriate" for each role to express. Is the rapist "allowed" to feel safety? Can the victim express cruelty? Can the witness feel scared? I've never seen the bones in person but I imagine they serve to emphasize the role that death plays in a lustmord, which is a german word describing a combined rape-murder. (electricmimikyu)

("Sharecropper" is a color linocut on cream Japanese paper print done by African-American artist Elizabeth Catlett. It measures 17 5/8 x 16 15/16" (44.8 x 43 cm) and is owned by the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago.

▪️ August 9, 1655 - Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell divides England into 11 districts

▪️ Cromwell is an iconic figure in British history

▪️ He was a key figure in the trial and execution of King Charles I

▪️ He has the peculiar distinction of being the only political criminal to be executed two years after his death

Cromwell was exhumed from his grave in 1661 and put on trial by the late king's son, Charles II. Posthumously convicted of high treason, Cromwell's corpse was hanged and beheaded, and his head was impaled on a 6-meter spike atop Westminster Hall. The mummified head remained on the spike for more than 20 years

▪️ In 1960 (300 years after Cromwell's death), Dr. Horace Wilkinson donated the head to Sidney Sussex College at Cambridge, Cromwell's alma mater

Bookbinding: Freedom's Just Another Word

I realized just after posting my bind of A Stitch in Time that I never got around to posting pictures of my previous bookbinding project, for my fic Freedom's Just Another Word, which I finished back in March. Then I looked through my photos and remembered why: because it is a book that proved extraordinarily difficult to photograph. It's very shiny. (The rose gold HTV in particular looks quite different depending on how the light hits it.) So these required lots of trial and error and camera repositioning.

It's also pretty tiny.

At 4.5 x 2.875 in (11.4 x 7.3 cm), this is the smallest hardcover I've attempted. The bookcloth is from Lineco's Books By Hand European Bookcloth line (navy). The cover text and designs are all HTV: Cricut Foil Iron-On (silver) on the front, Cricut Everyday Iron-On (white and silver) and Vinyl Frog Metallic Foil (rose gold) on the back. The images and shapes used to form the back cover design and the pattern on the end pages were taken from Cricut Design Space. The end pages were done using a Cricut Opaque Gel Pen (white). The fonts on the cover and title page are DS9 Title and DS9 Credits from st-minutiae.com, and most of the rest of the text is 11 point Sabon.

With the BMW 2800 Spicup, the Turin designer opted for a name which expresses the theme of the car, that is, its metamorphosis between spider and coupé and back again: the name Spicup is in fact spider + coupé.

BMW 2800 Spicup: The Bertone design is a reworking of the glorious 507 Spider produced by the German carmaker. It is based on the chassis of the 2500 saloon, shortened from 269 cm to 234 cm, with a 2800 cc. engine, which was already being mounted on the coupé presented by BMW in the same period. The considerable dimensions of the mechanical components were handled by creating almost excessively fluid vertical lines. At the same time, the relatively important tail and wings become the car’s focal point. The rollbars had to satisfy a combination safety needs and design criteria, and Bertone solved the problem with an automatic mechanism which also contained the elements for the transformation from spider to coupé and back again. The BMW 2800 Spicup was presented at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show. After premiering on Carrozzeria Bertone’s stand, the Spicup was exhibited at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Allassio in June and finally at that year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Its subsequent whereabouts are not totally clear, though it appears that the car was sold to a private owner shortly afterwards. Several sources have reported the Spicup being present in the mid-1970s at the German mega-dealer Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, which had a special showroom devoted to exotic cars at that time. A few years later, the Spicup was purchased by a Dutch motor dealer who decided to keep the car and obtained regular road registration. The exterior colour was changed from green to orange and the elaborate multi-hued green and silver interior was sprayed over – in black. In this configuration the car was used as a daily driver for the next 10 years, covering some 100,000 kilometres, which makes it probably the most-used one-off show car in the world! The Spicup was sold by Auction House Bonhams in 2011.

She would have joined her husband, sisters, and brothers if it weren't for the Lin Kuei and their lifetime debt...

She lies for more than a thousand years freezing, where once was her home, now it was a tomb, her clan has been erased from history, forgotten, or so she thought... Waking up in what was said to be the 21st century, with no knowledge of the modern environment in which she found herself, Eileithyia starts a new life in a village, decides to leave her past behind but her plans go down the drain when a certain Fire God and Protector of Earthrealm shows up at her favorite teahouse…

Personality: Eileithyia is wise, attentive and kind to those she considers family but is highly cautious, suspicious and critical of outsiders. After the massacre of her clan, she turned dark and bloody, resorting to even darker magic than she was used to in an attempt to avenge her clan.

After starting visiting Madam Bo's Teahouse and start a friendship with Raiden and Kung Lao, her behavior changed slightly, losing interest in killing and leaving behind his path of revenge, preferring to incapacitate his opponent without seriously injuring him. Many villagers in Fengjian describe Eileithyia as cold, aloof, lonely, and silent, refraining from showing her softer side, being reserved only for children, Madam Bo, Kung Lao, and Raiden. And despite her cold exterior, everyone in Fengjian knew that they could trust Eileithyia with their children, many speak and praise warmly about her fierce protection.

She has a slightly dark sense of humor in combat, often joking that she needs certain parts of her opponent's body as a sacrifice to the Elder Gods or for some dark ritual. She also has some sadistic tendencies, such as liking to give a slow and painful death to a person who she fully believes to deserves it, she also finds it satisfying to take a person to death with her own hands, reaching the point of healing all the wounds that she caused and repeating everything again.

Reborn as the Enemy Prince Official Character Profile and Author Q&A

With the release of the manhwa adaptation of "How to Live as the Enemy Prince" (or its official English title "Reborn as the Enemy Prince") this month, I've decided to loosely translate the character profile and Q&A the author released when she was still alive back in 2020.

And probably because lots of people are in disbelief that the 2nd prince's name is "Plants" and not "Plantz" or "Planche." 😂 Sorry, everyone. The author included an English translation of the character names in her character profile, so Manta's English translation of Plants's name is correct.

One more interesting trivia before we begin. The Korean title is 적국의 왕자로 사는 법, which roughly translates to "How to Live as the Prince of an Enemy Country." Its abbreviated by Korean readers as 적왕사, which interestingly translates into "The Red King." Probably a foreshadowing of Kalian's future. But I'll use the abbreviation REP from the official English title to avoid confusion.

In the text, when Syspanian takes the shape of a black butterfly, it is often described as 'like a lump of light from the night sky'. What Syspanian take is not a real butterfly with antennae, a tube, six thin legs, or a soft body, but the shape of a butterfly made of light. When it flies, black light scatters, but the wings do not drip. Therefore, there are no antennae~

The shape of the wings seems to be similar to that of a swallow butterfly. I think you can think of black swallowtail butterflies and mountain swallowtail butterflies. :)

Q:Based on Bern, who appeared in episode 421 (+episode 392~), how tall is he?

A: Since age in the story is based on birthday, Kalian is actually in his late teens. Although the exact age was not given, the appearance of Bern, which Kalian assumed at the time of disguise, was older than Kalian (18 years old in Korean standards) and younger than Kyrie (21 years old in Korean standards).
