182 Days of TPN - Day 130
Chapter 130: "Something to Report"
I love how easily Emma can now admit her feelings regarding the annihilation towards her family. From initially hiding her concerns, to opening up to Ray about them and finally admitting them to Norman himself and making her stance against the plan firm.. it's quite the improvement that she can talk freely about her choices without too much worry about how everyone else will react.
Tumblr media
Probably the main reason why I believe that the hatred the GP resistance harbored towards the demons is more justified than the malice the Lambda crew feels. The poachers were all psycho and far from innocent, unlike those demons simply living in actual towns.
Tumblr media
Definitely the best point to bring up in order to get the other thirteen escapees concerned, and I like how it's only them shown to react to the possibility.
Tumblr media
I know it hasn't even been a full ten chapters yet, but it feels as if I haven't seen everyone else in ages. I suppose that's solely a me problem by going through the chapters on a day by day pace. (is Rossi raising his hand?? aww, precious boy has a question!)
Tumblr media
She says it so proudly! And hearing her repeat Ray's advice to her makes me feel so soft. My boy has such intense glare though, as if he's just waiting to see if anyone is gonna really shut down her idea. Dude is giving y'all a warning to not challenge them after Emma's worked so hard to reach this decision.
Tumblr media
Season two saw that comment of Ray's and said "alright, bet."
Tumblr media
It's great that Sandy & Sonya recall that one brief moment with Nous mourning over Nouma, reminding us that even the real terrible demons do have actual feelings.
Tumblr media
Getting the chance to see other people's reactions to this whole mess is definitely something. Gillian doesn't seem too thrilled to admit that last bit though. If I was in their place, I wouldn't know which side I'd be on at the start.
Tumblr media
Oh Don, you wonderful supportive brother you. YES! These kinds of decisions is what Emma is best know for and no matter how risky they might be, the kids were able to come so far by following their highly determined and optimistic leader.
Tumblr media
The advantage of being the main protagonist. Or disadvantage in this case. Take your pick.
Tumblr media
Ahha.. wait til they find out Norman's life is actually in danger due to the Lambda experiments.
Tumblr media
Mhhmm, can't say you're gonna escape with everyone when you let one of your besties go. Granted, they left the children four and younger behind but at least she made the promise to go back for them.
Tumblr media
He said the thing again + double head pats.
Tumblr media
Luckily for Gilda and everyone else, our girl keeps her promises. And remains quite honest throughout the series as well. (she may not tell the whole truth during the most crucial moment of the series but what can ya do.)
Tumblr media
I laser focus on the GP trio every damn time I come across this panel without fail. Idc if they're just standing there, I love them.
Tumblr media
You know Norman is so deep into the WM persona when he doesn't even bother to see RE off before they venture to the Seven Walls, like he knows how risky it would be to go there, if it even exists in the first place, and he just.. straight up lets 'em go without a proper goodbye.
Tumblr media
Favorite panel/moment:
Big sis Paula is back with more hugs.
Tumblr media
But more importantly, there's THIS. Ray calling her crazy and no one disagrees. Also, his comment about him not being able to see her pov is sorta foreshadowing to the Seven Walls and how Emma is able to meet the demon god and not him. Sure Ray might come to understand Emma's reasoning and how her mind works eventually, but not at first, hence why he was booted out of the Seven Walls.
Tumblr media
Plus, I adore that face of hers. I'm very happy such a tiny detail made it into the anime as well.
Tumblr media
I also.. forgot to cross check the anime with this chapter until now. Um, yeah, some stuff remains the same of course. Tons of people missing obviously. How RE invite Don & Gilda to help with their search of Sonju & Mujika is kinda reminiscent of their conversation from ch99 actually with them being thankful to finally help with something. The addition of Emma & Gilda's headbutt is cute.
Tumblr media
I know this is already hella long and parts of this conversation don't even happen within the chapter (or at all in the manga) but screw it, my boy looks so handsome here.

Hii I was lowkey wondering if you would do something maybe like a one shot of neglected where reader is older (18-20) and dipped out of the house and became a singer and one of her songs basically exposed them for how they treated reader and in like an interview she full on tells them how she doesn’t even talk to them and like only Jason
This is literally perfect. I love this idea! I was planning on making a singer batsis reader anyway so here you go! I'll be making this part 4 of the series instead of a one shot. There’s a bit of angst. Btw, thanks so much for your support everyone! I'm glad you enjoy this series! Feel free to request anything you'd like besides smut as well!
This is the longest thing I have ever written so there will be a part 5. I planned on this being the last part but it's just so much. It’s not proofread and neither are all of the other parts because I post at 1 am most of the time lol. Hope you like it!
f/n = friend name
Y/G/N = your group name
N/S = news station
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 (Current) Part 5
---
You were sick of it. Sick of how even after confronting them about how you felt and almost dying because of it, they still neglected you. You couldn't wait to move out at the age of 18, even if it proved to be a struggle. You had taken mini jobs since you turned 15 and saved up since then. You just couldn't see them anymore as it would remind you of how they treated you that day at that hospital. None of them apologized either. They just pretended it never happened and continued to ignore you. The media had a field day with speculation of what had happened but eventually stopped because Bruce had claimed it was “just a bad case of the flu” which they believed.
Jason was always the only one that would talk to you. He was the only one that actually cared enough to make sure you were taking proper care of yourself and that you wouldn't have a repeat of what happened. He took you places, spent time with you and gave you advice. You even had a tradition where you'd always meet up at the manor's library every week at the same time that same day every week and just have a mini book club together. He always made time for you and never bailed on you.
So on your 18th birthday, he helped you move out. You managed to rent a small apartment in Star City with the money you had saved up. It wasn’t that close to the manor which was a good thing. The neighborhood wasn’t good but it wasn’t as bad as Gotham’s neighborhoods so you would be fine. You could handle yourself with your assassin training if needed. You also managed to get hired at a cafe which was about a five minutes walking distance from your apartment.
It had taken a while but eventually, you had packed all of your belongings into color coded containers and moved them into Jason’s car with his help. You didn’t say goodbye to anyone as you had no friends to say bye to and you knew that your so called “family” couldn’t care less about what you did with your life. ‘This is it, hopefully the last time I’ll ever be near this place.’ You thought. You didn’t plan on stepping foot in Gotham ever again after you left. It would bring back too many memories you prefer to keep buried away deep inside your mind.
The car ride to Star City was entertaining. You and Jason conversed the whole time, telling jokes and listening to his funny tales with the radio playing softly in the background. Eventually, a song you both loved came on and you both started yell-singing along to the lyrics. You wished those moments could be permanent. You were both so carefree and nothing else mattered besides having fun and enjoying yourselves.
You now stood in the doorway of your new apartment, admiring your new home. Jason and yourself had just finished unpacking all of your belongings. You really liked how it looked and thought you both did an amazing job at designing the place perfectly according to your style. Jason, unfortunately, had to leave in order to avoid raising suspicions. Once you both said your byes, he left you to your apartment.
Jason drove back home in silence. He hated to admit it but he would miss you dearly. You were always there for him and helped him with anything. You tried your best to always comfort him and make him feel better on his darkest days and it would always work. Somehow you seemed to always have the right words to say or knew exactly what to do to help him. Out of everyone he was closest to you. He assumed it was because he could relate to you the most. More so how you felt. He’d felt like the black sheep of the family before you came, and he was. When you came, you took that role from him. It pained him to see how much their insults would affect you, even if you were good at hiding it. He could just tell.
Jason made it back to the manor after a while and went straight to the library. He didn't want to deal with the others. After the whole hospital situation, he'd never really bother interacting with them. He hated how they treated you as if you didn’t exist and hated how much pain they had caused you and that they didn’t even care. He guessed that they'd probably be doing something for Damian's birthday and forgot that you were his twin. They probably couldn’t even remember that Damian had a twin.
He made it to the library and pulled out one of his favorite books. He’d read it so many times you’d often joke that he could probably recite the whole book by heart at this point. Sitting down in a chair, he started to read. However, he couldn’t bring himself to stop thinking about what it would’ve been like if they treated you how they did Damian. The both of you were Bruce’s real children. You both even looked like clones of him! At first, Jason thought you would’ve been the favorite twin due to your personality. Even though you were twins, your personalities were polar opposites. You even refused to kill! You were trained by the League so why didn’t you kill as Damian did?
Jason knew you would benefit them greatly if you joined. You had self control, didn’t kill, could act perfectly, lie perfectly, do well under pressure, and not to mention your skills. Being raised by the League may have been torture, but you managed to gain incredible skills out of it. You could take on at least ten guys who doubled you in size and beat them within five minutes. You even bested Damian in spars and he was supposedly dubbed the “better twin” by Talia, so why hadn’t they let you join their nightly crusades like they had let Damian when the both of you first arrived?
Damian passed by your room but noticed something was off. He decided to take a look. He twisted the doorknob and pushed. The room which was once occupied by you now looked extremely plain and bare, stripped of all of its accessories. The only things left were the bed itself, multiple dressers, and a vanity. It looked as if it had been vacant the whole time. It might as well have been. Damian couldn’t really remember what it had looked like since he’s never paid much mind to it but he could tell there was a drastic difference. He knew that you disliked just leaving your room plain unlike himself and wanted at least something to make it look less boring.
He couldn’t help but wonder what had happened. Had you finally been kicked out by Bruce? Did you get shipped off to a boarding school like he had been suggesting to your father for years? He decided to go ask. He exited the room and closed the door behind him, taking off for Bruce’s office. Walking down the hall, he suddenly remembered that he had seen you leave with Jason. This meant that you were not at a boarding school like he had originally thought. But then why was your room vacant?
Instead of going to see Bruce, he decided to go see Jason and bring up the matter with him instead. He changed directions and headed to the library where he knew he’d find Jason. It was no secret that Jason was a book worm so Damian had a fifty percent chance of finding him there.
He entered the library and was immediately greeted with the sight of Jason sitting comfortably on a chair, legs crossed with a book opened in his hands. Jason didn’t bother to look up from his book as he spoke.
“What do you want Demon Spawn?”
“I’ve come to obtain the whereabouts of my sister.”
“You mean my sister?”
“She’s not your sister!” Damian exclaimed.
“Well I act more like a brother than you do.”
“Where is Y/N? Her whole room is bare.”
“That’s for me to know and you to find out.”
“Just tell me, you imbecile!” Damian said, growing increasingly frustrated by Jason’s blunt answers.
“She’s not here.”
“Then where is she?”
“Not here.”
“Just tell me already Todd, I have no time for your foolish games!”
“She moved out.” Jason said, giving in.
“What?! Where.” Damian demanded.
“Why would I tell you?”
“Because I demand to know!”
“Okay and?”
“Tell me!”
“No.”
“Why not!”
“Because you don’t even care.”
“And you do?”
“Yes, I actually do Damian! I’m there for her when she needs me the most. I’m there for her while she’s watching you live the perfect life that she’s just a background character in! While you and the others ignore that she even exists! I’m there for her when she breaks down and has panic attacks! And what were you all doing to try and help her? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!” Jason snapped.
“Y/N’s fine, I know my twin!” Damian screamed.
“Do you even know what her favorite color is?” Jason questioned in a harsh tone.
“...” Was Damian’s reply.
“Exactly! You don’t! You and the others have never cared about her, so why all of a sudden do you care now? You don’t know anything about her so don’t act like you do!” Jason then stood up and walked out of the room in a fit of rage.
Damian stood there, shocked. Had Jason just refused to answer his question? He was about to follow him but decided against it. Why was Damian going to chase Jason down just for her? She was just an annoyance, a mistake, imperfect. He had been wanting to get rid of her for so long, so why doesn’t he feel relieved? Why does he feel guilty? He decided to stop dwelling on it and get on with life. He figured it would happen eventually if it hadn’t happened then.
---
It had been a year since that day. The day you left your old life behind and started a new life, a better one. One where you weren’t constantly ignored. One where you actually had more than one person care about you. Instead of seeing yourself as a failure and disappointment, you now saw yourself as an amazing person (which you always were). You had been going to a community college in Star City. You made many friends there and started up a music career with three of them.
Their names were f/n, f/n and f/n. You all started off by taking random gigs anywhere you could. You performed covers of songs and would receive standing ovations all the time. Seeing as your group was well liked, you decided to write and produce your own songs. At the age of 19, Y/G/N released their first album. It went viral within a day and everyone was talking about it. After a week, several articles were posted, praising your work. News Stations talked about all the records Y/G/N managed to break. People started to stream it like crazy, and you couldn’t be happier with all the positive feedback you were receiving.
You had been a Wayne once, meaning you had experience in dealing with the media. Since you had already been used to it, you knew you’d all eventually be invited to interviews. So, when you had received an email stating how N/S wanted a one on one interview with you, you weren’t sure how to feel. You weren’t looking forward to interviews with your whole group, let alone one where you would be alone. You knew how unfiltered interviewers could be and didn’t feel comfortable with it.
However, you decided it would be best to go. So here you were, sitting in front of the interviewer in an uncomfortable chair preparing for the interview to start. You had somehow managed to keep a smile plastered on your face the entire time while you were a nervous wreck on the inside. You hoped none of the questions would be sexist as they usually were towards women. However, you had no more time to think about that. You heard clicking, signaling that you were about to go live. Once you heard the last click, you knew you were live and the interview had begun.
“Hello everyone, welcome back to N/S. My name is Jerald Tangleberry and I’m here today with songwriter, singer, and celebrity, Y/N Wayne! How are you?”
You waved to the camera and then answered, “Hello everyone! I’m doing good, how about you?”
“I’m doing great, thanks for asking! So by now I’d assume everyone knows that you’ve released an album with your group. How does it feel to gain more fame?”
“It doesn’t feel any different. Fame wasn’t our goal when we released the album. It was to express ourselves.”
“Mhm, well Ms. Wayne, what inspired you to write songs?”
“Well we know people may be in a tough spot in their life right now and want them to know they aren’t alone.”
“That’s so true. Some fans have been speculating that every member has three songs that specifically relate to them since there are twelve songs in total and three of the songs have the same group member as the introduction part of the song. Is this true?”
“Yes, it is true.”
“So all three of your songs relate to family issues of some sort. Is that hinting that you have family issues?”
“Yes, actually. My family isn’t the best. They ignored me all the time, even when they weren't busy. The only person who didn’t was Jason.”
“You’re saying it in the past tense.”
“I moved out about a year ago. When I was around 14, I suffered from anorexia. My family would always ignore me since they were either busy doing work or hanging out with each other. The only family member that acknowledged me was Jason. I assumed it was because there was something wrong with me. I started to hate myself so much to the point of starvation. One day, I passed out right before a gala and my oldest brother Dick found me passed out on the floor. They took me to the hospital and when I woke up, Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Damian started fussing about how I’d ruin their image if the media knew what actually happened. They started to yell at me and told me how I was a useless burden. I started to have a panic attack so I kicked them out. Jason stayed behind with me and comforted me. Ever since then I made a planed to save enough money so I could move out when I turned 18, which I did.”
“Oh, wow. So Jason was the only one who interacted with you?”
“Yeah.”
“Looks like the Wayne family isn’t as perfect as they seem.”
“No family is actually perfect.”
“Did your family try contacting you at all after they found out about Y/G/N?”
“Not yet. They’re probably too busy or don’t care.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.”
“It’s alright, I got over it. What’s the next question.”
“Oh-” He cleared his throat and continued the interview. (So basically I don’t wanna bore you all lol)
---
Jason had woken up late into the afternoon that day. Patrol that morning had exhausted him. There was a huge breakout at Arkham they had assisted with. They successfully locked up every escapee, so today, Jason just wanted to relax until it would be time for patrol again. Even though he was exhausted, he knew he couldn’t take a break. The others wouldn’t and it would be unfair to them if he did.
He headed over to his couch with his phone and a bowl of popcorn in hand, ready to watch random movies the entirety of the day. He set down his phone on the coffee tables and grabbed the TV remote. When he turned on the TV, he almost dropped the popcorn and remote. You were sitting on a chair, giving an award winning smile while you politely answered the man’s questions. He was baffled. He didn’t know why you were being interviewed, let alone on TV at all! You made it clear you didn’t want to have any relations with your family any longer and you couldn’t stand publicity, so what were you doing?
He placed the bowl down and snatched his phone off the table. Unlocking his phone, he quickly dialed your phone number. However, he realized that the interview was live and that he would be interrupting it if he called you then. Deciding to wait, he placed his phone back down, picked up the bowl, and then got comfortable.

Hellooo hon can i request pls? Can u write for tobirama a one shot where he rejects his s/o but then he sees her with another guy in the village often and starts to realize about hia feelings but its late bc she is marrying this other guy? I need some angst hahahah. Its ok if you don't want to write it! Thank you 😘
A/N: Hello anon, thank you for the request! Here's some Tobirama angst. It made me sad to write this but here we are. The things we do for angst. Hope you enjoy.
Warnings: none. Just pure sadness.
Words: Around 1.475
' The Fire Which Didn't Burn '
Tumblr media
-"No. I do not love you."
Those words echoed in your mind days after his initial rejection. Over and over again until it was all you could think about. It stung your heart each time you repeated the sentence. The never ending feeling that it was something you did wrong wrecked your mind, it made work harder and rest scarce for a while. You didn't understand. You were sure he felt at least some semblance of love for you, in the end you were the one he truly did let in his company. One he could rely on for anything that he may need. Or did you read the signs that wrong? At that point it wouldn't be a surprise if it was all for business sake, seeing as you both worked together on making the village prosper and bloom.
But that was almost an whole year ago. Even more. Since then you have moved on from the heart ache. Although a few select close friends knew of your pain, you never indulged them with your gloomy moods that came and went. It was a tendency you seemed to pick up from the younger Senju and the years you spent at his side. Not letting anyone really in. Only letting them scratch the surface of it, to know enough to leave you be.
It has been a whole year since the last time Tobirama had spent proper time with you, a whole year since you both sat down to unwind and discuss things amicably. At the confession of your feelings for him he was rather cold, cooly brushing you off and trying to get back into his work. He didn't feel like it was such a big deal then, he believed that it didn't matter as long as you both still remained a good bond. But he was proven wrong. You recoiled from his reach and even disappeared from his sight. His ears seldomly heard of you anymore. It was as if you disappeared from the village all together. Even if he saw traces of your work, your signatures and reports. It was all superficial.
At first this didn't bother Tobirama much, even if he was initially worried about your lack of communication with him. The man was simply so drowned in his work to take some kind of action, to do anything to smooth things over with you again. On certain days, when work was lesser, he would indulge himself in things he did with you once. Only then feeling the effects, the weight on his shoulders due to your absence. There was no more of your reasoning voice, no more laughter, no more endless teasing when the two of you were alone, no more long nights where the two of you shared your worries and even fears. There was none of it. Only distant memories.
As stubborn as he was, he would finally come to terms that he, in the very least, missed you greatly. That he should've done something sooner. Now he felt embarrassed to even try after so long had already passed.
Tobirama had recently started to seek out information about you. Head full of things, horrible things. Were you alright now? Have you moved on?
As it turns out, yes you were alright and yes...you have moved on. You were still working as a ninja, so how you managed to keep out of his sight so much and for so long surprised the silver haired Senju. And when word reached him that you were getting married soon. He was...he didn't know how to feel, actually. You had found another man to love and share your burdens and future with. He had spotted the pair of you once in the village, walking peacefully side by side. Hand and fingers entwined together. You pressing into his side once to give him a quick hug. Him smiling down at you, a genuine, earnest smile which you reflected back just the same. It made Tobirama ill. A deep, gut wrenching feeling over took him so much that he wanted to bolt. As unlikely as that was for him.
Perhaps this was karma. You were his most trusted friend. You understood him at best and at worst times, and you dealt with him when he was being difficult. You were with him at his side even when his brother got fed up with his arrogance. The amount of times you sat at the stairs on his porch, waiting for him to cool off were countless; even your company alone was salve enough. And not to even mention your beauty, you were the rare one that really caught Tobirama's eye, like no other woman has before. And yet, he pushed you away. Perhaps this was his punishment. The maker gave him a chance, a chance to be happy and content and have someone with him and he let it fall and shatter to the floor. Tobirama could only scowl, and he found himself in a sour mood ever since.
He wouldn't admit it but his heart was aching. Was this how you too felt?
-"Tobirama!"
You exclaimed. Shock written all over your features, the basket of fruit, fish and vegetables hooked onto your elbow. Neither of you knew what to say at first. Tobirama was just as shocked as you, regretting not using his sensory abilities to sense you and turn in another direction. Now that you two ran into each other his tongue felt dry.
Your breath stopped in your throat as you searched his eyes, his face for anything that could indicate some sort of reaction. Yet the only thing you found in his scarlet gaze was yearning, and then emptiness once he collected his racing thoughts.
"Y/N. It.. it has been a while."
He spoke, clearing his throat while his heart felt as if it was going to burst out of his chest. The clothes he wore suddenly felt suffocating and scolding. A tangible tension grew between the two of you.
"Yes. It has been...How have you been doing? I surely hope you are getting some proper rest, I heard there was quite a scuffle recently."
Trying to keep the conversation average failed. A frown became prominent on his lips as he only nodded, in a almost mechanical fashion, but didn't respond to the question. You caught his gaze flickering, only for a second, down to your ring finger. Where the silver ring was. A small gem held on the top of it. And you understood, in a way.
"Oh..."
A wind breezed past the two of you, but it didn't feel comforting. It felt chilling and hot and dry all at the same time, like raking hands that clung to the both of you. If you were paying just a little more attention to the Senju, you would've seen the sadness collect in his eyes. Even if his face remained cold and unreadable. His eyes gave it all away.
The conversation ended rather awkwardly with both of you wishing each other well and saying your goodbyes. So many things were left unsaid then. It wouldn't take Tobirama long after that quick encounter to really admit it to himself that he has grown feelings for you, that he was in love. Realizing a year too late. A year he wished he could get back so he could be with you instead of that man. A year that could make it all better, for the both of you. But no matter how many sleepless nights he had, no matter how much he wished and even prayed, he couldn't take your happiness away. He couldn't even dare do such a thing, couldn't dream of it.
Sometimes you would even worm your way in his dreams, his mind visualizing a future he knew he couldn't have. A happy one with you at his side, in a house different from the one he was in now, with enough space for the both of you and even another addition. No matter how much he dreaded those dreams, he let himself drown in the comforts of them even if for a moment. Letting himself experience what could have been. The phantom touches and plush kisses that soon turned to dust in his mouth when he woke. The image of you still dancing vividly in front of his sleep hazed eyes.
Other times he even found himself crying in those dreams, angry, bitter and regretful tears. Clinging onto you in his dreams, pleading to not wake up yet to make it all better. It pained him. That he couldn't have you anymore. You were now married to someone, and that someone wasn't him.
Tobirama saw how happy you were, genuinely. And he wasn't going to take it away just because of his own mistakes.
Now it was his turn to share the pain you went through. He accepted it all. It was now his responsibility. His mistakes.

You Said What To Your Teacher? | Send Me A Prompt💜
.-
“Do you remember when we were nine and I gave you my last sparkler because Regulus was crying that he wanted your purple smoke bomb and I was left with only my shitty poppers to throw when the ball dropped on New Year’s.”
Sub half way to his mouth and mobile lodged between his shoulder and ear, Sirius gently sets down his sandwich and dabs off the splatter of mayonnaise on his cupids bow as he tries to parse out what in bloody hell his best friend is blabbering on about.
“Oh, hi, Jem. Yeah I’m doing well, mate, thanks for asking. Works the typical grind but I think Minnie is about to give me that promotion any day now.”
“It’s a simple yes, or no answer, arse.” James retorts haughtily, sounding somehow frenzied and buoyant all at once.
“Pardon me, I thought we would just have a normal conversation like typical blokes,” Sirius sniffs, tilting back on his chair and clicking around on his desktop to look at the revised dimensions of a new building his firm was employed to begin constructing in south London. “Now remind me, my sweet. Was this the same New Year’s that you stuffed that stink bomb in the back of my shirt after stomping on it so it’d explode on me?”
“That is neither here, nor there.”
“I still feel the debris on my poor back on especially rough days.”
“You’re a twat.”
“And you’re acting dodgy.”
“I need a favor, and I thought a transactional proposition would be the sort of thing that you corporate types would appreciate.” James jabs, laughter in his words. Sirius just hopes he could picture the middle finger he’s emulating through the line.
“Just because you’ve completed residency doesn’t make you a special snowflake, you do realize this, correct?” Sirius tells him, already shooting a message to Minerva and his team that he’ll be jetting off a bit earlier so he could do whatever it is that James needs.
“Slander! It makes me the most special snowflake, Black. And it eats you up inside.” James retorts, moving away from the receiver to yell something towards one of his interns about a patient or the other.
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, gorgeous. Now are you going to ever tell me what it is you need from me, or keep trying to get in my trousers, because listen either option is aces on my end. I’ll just add it to the document I send Lily every week about how I’m so obviously your dream partner.”
“It always just comes back to your burning jealousy that I chose her over you, doesn’t it?” James pretends to sigh forlornly. “Listen, my love. It’s not my fault that some birds are just born prettier than others.”
“Psha, I’m the prettiest fucker you know, Potter.”
“It’s the attitude for me, just absolutely no decorum about you.”
“Is this about that snag with me teaching Haz how to properly curse at a United fan?” Sirius asks, moving to collect his satchel and jacket. “Because I stand by that. We’re a fucking Arsenal family, damn it.”
“We were at brunch when he called that poor woman a weasel faced toad, Sirius.”
“Good man,” Sirius insists, waving goodbye to the secretary who always gives him the most devoted heart eyes.
“Well, speaking of the sprog. I’m stuck here with a new bout of paperwork to get someone transported to us from a hospital in the states, and Lily’s stuck in the maternity ward till at least nine.”
“Ooo, a bit of God father/God son time then??”
“With great power, comes great responsibility,” James says gravely.
“What have I told you about your shitty nerd references and how they give me a rash.”
“Spider-man isn’t simply for nerds you absolute pleb! There’s been three bloody franchisements for him in the past two decades!”
“Imma let Harry eat ice cream for dessert, I reckon.”
“Then you’ll have Lily to answer to,” James warns, still seething from the jibe. “And if you’re taking the bike, can you at least park a block away. This new school we’ve enrolled him into this year is well and proper, and I’d not want them to think that our son’s God father is some sort of ne’er-do-well.”
“You put respect on Rosco’s name, or so help me!”
“Right, right, the only constant love in your life.”
“She’s the only one who understands me.”
“ Whatever, just try and behave decently, will you?”
“Hah, and why wouldn’t I?” Sirius asks as he tosses his helmet into the air, patting Rosco in apology for James’s impertinence.
“Hmm, we’ll see, won’t we.” James says in an irritatingly ominous tone before clicking off the line.
.-
There are a lot of reasons why Sirius could hate James. He could hate him for forcing Sirius to join him on his morning runs, or hate him for his intensely perky attitude about every sodding thing. Hell he could probably hate him for his complete disregard of the mad sport that is American football. But all that withstanding, Sirius reasons that for today he’ll hate him for his cryptic fucking warning and how he knew this would happen and is probably cackling over it as he fills out a new set of discharge papers.
That absolute, unceasing, weasel faced, toad.
The ‘this’ that Sirius is referring to of course is the fact that Sirius is left dumbstruck and gawping as he strolls leisurely into Harry’s third year class, eyes roaming over the small cluster of children who had stayed after hours for extra tutoring and who are now just lounging around, waiting for a guardian to come and pick them up. But instead of first spotting the dark head that belongs to his God son, Sirius’s gaze focusses on a man… A very fit, very golden, very beautiful man. A man that’s all lithe limbs and honey eyes, and a small, quietly encouraging smile as he kneels down to chat with a blonde girl who’s got on a blue tutu and rainbow poncho.
“Fuck you James Potter,” Sirius hisses lowly to himself as he tries to collect his wits about him, and remind himself that flirting with his God son’s actual, fucking professor is not a thing that is approved of.
“Uncle Pads!”
Sirius starts, feeling suddenly grounded as Harry bounds towards him and hugs his torso with a tight squeeze. “Hiya Prongslet,” he says, grinning indulgently as he ruffles a hand through Harry’s wild mop of curls.
“Am I coming to yours then?”
“If you’ll have me,” Sirius winks, tapping the bridge of his specs fondly.
“Brilliant! I’ll just tell Professor Lupin.”
Oh, that’s a very sexy name if Sirius does say so himself, though he tries not to marinate on the fact as he waits patiently while Harry leads that absolutely delicious looking man towards him. And God, the way he’s tipping back his head only slightly to meet Sirius’s gaze— It’s lewd.
“You’re Harry’s God father, yes?” Is the first thing Professor Lupin says to him, stretching out a hand that’s all long fingers stained by ink, and knobby knuckles that Sirius suddenly has the insane craving to nip at.
Jesus, he needs to get himself the fuck together.
“Ahem, yes, yes. I’m that. I’m Sirius I mean— Oh, my name, and erm— I’m also serious that I am his God father, that is a thing.” Sirius rambles, feeling like a complete idiot as he takes hold of Remus’s slender hand into his own, and shakes it with two, awkward pumps— holding onto it for a beat too long.
Sirius repeats, fuck James Potter.
“Right,” Professor Lupin says with something akin to amused. “Well he’s only got his maths to finish tonight, and a bit more reading for history.”
“Oh, good. I’ll definitely help with that. I’m great with numbers.”
“Wonderful,” Professor Lupin nods at him before peering down at Harry and grinning widely. “You did great today, just keep up with your novel for Professor Meadows and you’re splendid. Yeah?”
“Thank you Professor Lupin,” Harry preens, chest puffed out not unlike how James had used to do back in their school days every time they won a footie match.
“Nice meeting you Mr— ah?”
“Black!” Sirius quickly offers, straightening up immediately like a rose bud stretching towards the sun. “Sirius Black.”
The corner of Professor Lupin’s mouth twitches up, and Sirius is struck with the searing need to see the full force of his smile directed towards him— and also to snog it right off. “Remus Lupin, just to make things even.”
And fuck.
Sirius swears— hand on his chest and face to God— that it was a flirtatious inflection that Professor Lupin— Remus— used right then, but before he can even have the chance to toy around with the development, a mother in yoga pants and Starbucks strolls in and Remus walks over to greet her hello, and before Sirius knows it, Harry’s tugging on his hand and dragging him out the room.
Damn it.
.-
Despite his total and complete fail of a first meeting with Harry’s sickeningly attractive professor, the rest of the night turns out to go as perfectly as planned. Otherwise known as them stuffing themselves with greasy pizza, and heaps of ice cream, and staying up an hour past Harry’s typical bed time to play Far Cry instead. And if Sirius contemplates asking him more about this elusive Remus Lupin, he bites down the urge and concentrates on sticking his spoon onto his nose before Harry could beat him in their match.
It’s totally fine.
That is until it’s six o’clock in the ruddy morning and he’s woken up by the loud knocking of his front door, only to be met by the grossly chipper faces of Lily and James— that sort of glow is only a thing that happens after a good shag, and Sirius knows that for fact.
“We brought pasties,” Lily tells him as she sashays indoors, red main of hair billowing in the late autumnal breeze and her voice ringing out like she’s some sort of radio show host.
“How was last night?” James asks him as he toes off his boots and follows Lily to the kitchen.
“Fine,” Sirius gripes, still pissy from James’s cruel joke. “Haz is always great.”
“Mmm, I hope Remus didn’t give you any trouble picking him up, you’re on the paperwork and everything but it’s the first time he ever met you and all.” Lily says, faux lightly as she picks out the plates and turns on the electric kettle.
“You knew!” Sirius accuses emphatically, pointing a heated finger her way and then directing it towards James.
“Knew that he is exactly your type?”
“And that you’d look like a tosser talking to him for the first time,” Lily tacks on, giggling.
“Fuck you, and fuck your weird, married telepathy!”
“Nah, not telepathy mate,” James assures, clapping him on the shoulder. “You’re just incredibly predictable.”
“We’d have to be thick not to know that you’d be a total idiot around him— You’re the worst whenever you have to talk to pretty people who you actually want to do more than just screw.”
Sirius feels himself go scarlet. “That is an attack on my person, Evans!”
“Yes, dear. I know.” Lily croons, patting him on the cheek like a doting grandmother. “But does it help that I think you should totally go for it.”
“Lily! He’s our son’s teacher!”
“Only for this year,” Lily shrugs, sitting on a stool that lines the island. “Besides, I really like Remus. We have the same cycling class and he taught me how to make my face into an emoji like I’m a Kardashian.”
“You guys talk about’m like he’s the second coming of Christ,” James harrumphs, doling out their mugs with a scowl.
“He’s just so pretty,” Sirius sighs, beyond dejected. “Did you see that little birthmark on his cheek that looks like a butterfly! And Jesus, his eyes are like a third of his face!”
“Don’t forget how well he fills out those trousers for such a skinny bloke,” Lily adds, mixing the honey into the tea that James had just poured her.
“I alas did not get a chance to give his ass the appraisal it warrants,” Sirius bemoans.
“I very much do not like the idea that my best friend and wife are thirsting over the same bloke.” James sniffs.
“Jealous, lover,” Lily leers, laughing at how James wrinkles his nose at them and kisses his cheek in reassurance. But Sirius doesn’t pay them any of his attention, is too distracted by painting the picture of Remus in his mind’s eye, and how he really does need a second look if he loves himself at all.
“He’s like those caramel lollypops from when we were kids,” he tells them unceremoniously. “But instead of that tart middle, he’s just sweetness through the center.”
“You want to lick him, huh?” Lily asks, smirking at him with a lecherous air.
“I want to lick him until he goes mad and begs me to just flip’m over and—“
“Enough!” James quickly cuts in with a smack of the hand against the countertop. “This man is Harry’s professor, I can’t have these sort of images of him while I go to pick him up after class.”
Sirius jerks forwards, beyond excited. “Then let me pick up Haz from school today, yeah? It’ll give me a chance to speak with Remus!”
“Why do you want to talk to Mr Lupin?”
The three adults turn around at once, met by the image of Harry in the spare uniform he keeps at Sirius’s house— hair sleep rumpled and specs askew.
“Hallo my beautiful boy,” Lily grins, her and James each kissing his cheek and giving his shoulders a squeeze as he sits between them.
“Why do you want to talk to Professor Lupin, Uncle Sirius.” Harry asks again, earnestly as he tares apart his cheese and veggie pasty. “Do you like him?”
“Oh, erm—“ Sirius feels his insides squirm, not sure where to step, afraid that his God son might not appreciate the fact that Sirius’s already planning out a reception party for his impending nuptials with Remus.
“I think it’d be cool if you did.”
And in an instant, Sirius feels his shoulders loosen and his smile go elastic. God he loves this kid. “yeah?”
“Mhmm,” Harry nods, taking a sip of his water to clear his throat. “Ron told me that Professor Lupin use to be married to his Uncle Fabs and then they broke up last year, so I bet he’s sad now. And you’re the best person on the planet and you always have fun! You should make him happy again.”
Sirius’s heart seizes, suddenly needing to be the person to help Remus with anything he could ever need.
“You’re a diamond kiddo, you know that?” Sirius says, standing up to lift his eight year old God son into the air and blowing a raspberry to his cheek. “Shove it to your dad, you’ll be my best man at the wedding, yeah?”
“Imma need to start smoking if he’s gonna be this much of a prat all the time now,” James mutters lowly, making it so Lily crows with laughter.
.-
That afternoon finds Sirius parked back outside Harry’s school, straightening the collar of his jacket and combing a hand through his hair. Though once he steps into the nearly emptied classroom, he’s still slack jawed when Remus looks over his shoulder towards the door and grins at him in such a glimmering sort of way, that it punches Sirius in the fucking solar plexus!
“Mr Black, twice in one week?”
“Hah— Yeah.” Sirius hopes his smile comes out more gentle than a grimace. “It’s not far from my work, actually. So I guess I’ll be around more often.” In fact, the drive is a good twenty minutes from his office, but Sirius doesn’t think that’s really relevant.
“Lucky us.” Remus retorts, looking up and down his frame with a slow, languid sort of gaze that makes Sirius feel filleted right open. “Well I can’t wait to get to know you better.”
“You can know whatever you want,” Sirius practically sputters, wonders if he should try and act cool, especially now that Harry’s wandered over towards them.
“Is that an open offer?” Remus asks, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth and lying back leisurely against his desk.
“Yes. Yes, absolutely.”
Remus’s beautiful face goes absolutely incandescent right then. “Good.”
“Good,” Sirius repeats, completely devout.
“Oh, before you go,” Remus says, pointer finger raised to freeze them while his other hand fishes into a drawer of his desk. “It’s not a caramel pop, but at least the Tutsi ones are sweet all the way through.”
Sirius feels his jaw completely drop while Remus gently places the stick of the treat into his open hand, tossing him a quick wink before walking off to chat with a new parent who had wandered in.
“Harry— You said what to your teacher.”
“That you said he looked like a caramel pop,” Harry answers, totally owlish and unconcerned.
Sirius contemplates drowning into the lake, but then decides that this is a game he will not lose against Remus.
“All right, Prongslet. Let’s grab us some chocolate eggs and you can tell me everything you know about your dear Professor.”
“Okay, Uncle Pads,” Harry beams.

An Unlikely Reunion
pairing: human!mammon/demon!gn!mc
word count: 3.6k
summary: Having been separated from Mammon for the last several months, you head to the council room to meet the new exchange student. You probably should have expected this outcome.
a/n: sorry this update took so long. my sister was in town visiting for the holidays and just recently left. here’s the third part of the human!mammon & demon!mc series :)
part one | part two
It’s been a month since you’ve last seen Mammon. You were unsure if he had even noticed your swift disappearance, given you’d only ran into each other on three separate occasions. You’d be lying to yourself if you said the entire situation hadn’t bothered you. You were practically under house arrest for the last two or three months. Had it been longer than that? You stopped counting.
You were still expected to do your chores and duties, but you were forbidden from traveling to other realms. Not that you had an urge to pop into the Celestial Realm, but even that was off-limits now too (you were pretty sure you weren’t allowed there in the first place). In other events, Lord Diavolo had recently approved of a new exchange program that would take place within the next few days. The Devildom would be hosting two human students, as well as two angels. You found it interesting, though you knew Lucifer was more than likely against it from the start. Still, you had found the idea of it ridiculous at first; humans were allowed to visit the Devildom and yet you were still in trouble for running off to the human realm?
Belphegor did not take the news well when it first broke. Beelzebub had to pick the demon up and carry him back to their shared room before he destroyed the entire living room. He had been screaming and shouting until the door of their room quietly clicked shut. He kept it up, too, despite Lucifer warning him to drop the act. He made sure to remind Diavolo whenever he got the chance that he’d regret this decision and that nothing good ever came from the human race. You were honestly surprised that Lucifer never punished him, and you were even more surprised when it was revealed that Belphegor would be the demon traveling to the human realm as an exchange student. If you were being honest, you didn’t believe it at first. How did Lord Diavolo and Lucifer get him to agree to such a thing? Besides the youngest born holding a deep hatred for humans, he’d never been away from his twin, Beelzebub, for too long either.
He was gone now; he left two days ago. You were hurt when you found out he left without a goodbye, and you knew Beelzebub shared your thoughts when you caught the expression on his face when Lucifer broke the news. Other than that, not much has happened since you last saw Mammon.
With Belphegor taking his leave early, only two days remained before the exchange program would begin. Servants and demons alike had been bustling around the Devildom to make everything ready for the new students. This was a matter of war or not, as this could potentially bring peace between the three realms. You weren’t complaining; you liked the idea of not having war constantly looming over your head.
“I wonder what kind of human Lord Diavolo ended up selecting for the program.” Asmodeus was painting his nails from where he lounged on the couch. You were sitting on the other end, scrolling through your D.D.D while listening to your brother gossip for the last several minutes. Since Belphegor left, Asmodeus had been insistent that the two of you spend more time together. You weren’t sure why he wanted the sudden attention from you, but if you had to guess you’d say he missed his baby brother. You thought it was cute.
But of course, hanging out with Asmodeus doesn’t come without a price. For you, it was listening to endless gossip for hours on end. “Hopefully one that doesn’t start trouble wherever they go.”
“That would make it interesting though, don’t you think? It’d be boring if they were like Lucifer or Satan, always following the rules.”
“Satan doesn’t always follow the rules.” You commented and glanced over at the other. “At least when it comes to Lucifer, anyway.”
“He might egg on the human if they cause trouble. Anything to annoy Lucifer.” There’s a ghost of a smile on his lips as he thinks over the endless possibilities. “I hope they’re cute. I haven’t slept with a human in a while.”
“Gross.”
“What? I thought you of all demons would appreciate that statement.” You quirked an eyebrow at his comment, though you opted not to say anything. Sometimes it was better to let Asmodeus think he was in the right. You looked up from your spot on the couch upon hearing someone enter the room. A smile graced your lips when seeing that it was Beelzebub.
“Did you come to keep us company?” To say the sixth born had been lonely since Belphegor left would be an understatement. He had trouble sleeping, keeping himself invested in conversations, and he even had some trouble eating. It made your chest feel lighter to see the demon out and about instead of sulking in his room. Had he spent another day locked away in his room, you would have dragged him out. Perhaps this was for the best that he was coming out willingly.
“I did.” Was all the redhead commented. Asmodeus sat up to give him room, the larger demon sitting between the two of you. He brought snacks with him, settling them down on the coffee table. “Feel free to have some.” You and Asmodeus exchange looks with one another. It was unlike Beelzebub to share his food with anyone other than Belphegor. He must still be feeling the effects of the younger being away. “He hasn’t answered my texts yet.” There was a frown on his lips, almost resembling a child’s pout.
“Remember what Lucifer said? It might take a couple of days for Belphie to get settled down. Plus, I’m sure he’s going through a lot emotionally right now. I’m sure he’ll answer once he’s feeling more comfortable.” You reassuringly rubbed the side of his arm and Asmodeus nodded in agreement.
“Belphie would never ignore you. I think he’s physically incapable of it.” Asmodeus’ comment seemed to put him more at ease, his shoulders relaxing slightly.
“And you know he’d never approve of you locking yourself away in your room. You’re not a hermit.” You gently chided your younger brother.
“Your name isn’t Leviathan,” Asmodeus said with a grin and you leaned over to gently swat at his knee.
“Be nice.” You warned lightly.
You found yourself standing in the council room with Lord Diavolo, Barbatos, and the rest of your brothers excluding Belphegor. Today would be the day the exchange students were revealed. Though you hadn’t said it out loud, you were curious to see who the human would be and what they’d act like. There was a lot of secrecy surrounding the human, Lord Diavolo unwilling to spare any details, even with Lucifer. You had wondered why, but Lord Diavolo was a hard man to read. Whether it had any significant meaning or not, you didn’t know. You looked around the large room, trying to see if you could pick out an unfamiliar face. When you couldn’t, your eyebrows furrowed in visible confusion. “Where--”
Before you could finish your question, a flash of bright light filled the room, nearly blinding you and your brothers in the process. Over the next couple of seconds, the light’s intensity dwindled until the light was no longer there. Slowly blinking the light from your eyes, you see a human standing in the middle of the room, their back facing you. A snicker left Satan who stood behind you.
“Welcome to the Devildom- oh.” There was a falter in Diavolo’s speech. “It seems we caught you at a bad time.” Laughter budded within your chest when seeing that the human was only dressed in a bath towel. Did they seriously give the human no warning before summoning them to the Devildom? Talk about unlucky.
“What the- where the hell am I?” All the color drained from your face upon hearing that all too familiar voice. Oh no. Talk about unlucky.
“Welcome to the Devildom, Mammon.” There was a slight flush to his cheeks as he spoke. You were sure he regretted his lack of proper planning now. You were secretly glad something finally came back to bite him in the ass. Of course, having said that, this was also coming back to bite you in the ass. “You look a little disorientated, but there’s no need to worry. You’ll adjust to the Devildom soon enough.”
“Or, hear me out, maybe I look disorientated because I was just steppin’ out of the damn shower, gettin’ ready for work, and then I found myself in some strange ass room surrounded by a group of men. I don’t know about ya, but that’s not the kinda work I do.” You silently put a hand to your mouth, fighting back laughter. Oh, this was most definitely not good. Of all humans to select, of course, Lord Diavolo picked Mammon, because why wouldn’t he? He did not know who he was speaking to, and even if he had, you weren’t sure that would have changed anything.
Glancing behind you, you could tell Satan was already keen on the human. Mammon was doing a good job of flustering Lord Diavolo, and therefore getting underneath Lucifer’s skin. Looking to your left, you could tell Asmodeus was also keen on him, though that could simply be because he was only dressed in a towel. The strangest things always seemed to excite your brother. The rest of your brothers looked amused but other than that you couldn’t get a read on them.
“Right, well I believe an introduction is in order, don’t you think?” Of course, he gave no time for Mammon to answer. He probably wouldn’t want to hear it, anyway. “My name is Lord Diavolo and I am the ruler of all demons, and all here know of me. And now, you do too.” There’s a smile on his face as he greeted Mammon. Although you couldn’t see his face yourself, you doubt he’s impressed. “And someday soon, I will be crowned the King of the Devildom.”
“What am I supposed to do with this information?”
“We’re currently in the council room of the Royal Academy of Diavolo, but we call it RAD for short,” he didn’t answer him, which was probably the smart thing to do, “this is the building where you’ll be taking all of your classes.”
“Why am I here?” There’s an exhausted tone to Mammon’s voice.
“I will be more than willing to explain everything to you.” Lucifer stepped in, a chilling smile on his face and Mammon instinctively took a step back. “My name is Lucifer and I’m the Avatar of Pride.”
“He’s also the vice president of the council and my right-hand man! I’d even go as far as saying that we’re best friends.” You watched as Lucifer’s eyes narrowed at Diavolo’s interjection. “We tell each other everything.” Satan snickered again and you have a hard time keeping the grin off your face.
“Lord Diavolo, please.” There’s an exasperated look on his face before addressing Mammon once again.
“What the actual fuck is goin’ on?” Mammon’s rubbing at his temples in frustration. “Lucifer? Like, the devil? Oh god, I must have slipped while gettin’ out of the shower and cracked my skull open or somethin’. I bet I’m bleedin’ out on my floor as we speak.”
If you were being honest, you zoned out for almost the entirety of Lucifer’s speech as he caught Mammon up with everything. You were too distracted by the sound of your blood pulsing in your ears. You were staring at Mammon’s back, with such an intensity that Asmodeus cleared his throat from beside you. You didn’t mind; you were too busy trying to think of a way out of this. What would Mammon do the moment he turns around and sees you? Would he make a scene? Call you out by name? Lucifer wanted the human you spent your time with dead; what would he do if he found out that human was Mammon?
Your attention was quickly brought back to reality when you realized Lucifer was introducing everyone. Unfortunately for you, you had never been a great actor, and lying was not your strong suit. You watched in silent horror as Lucifer began to introduce your brothers in no particular order, before landing on you. You felt the sweat beading on your forehead as you locked eyes with Mammon from across the room. His eyes widened dramatically, and you suddenly found yourself praying that he would not make a fool of himself in front of everyone. Your mouth ran dry as you could only stare in return. You were speechless, unable to form a coherent sentence.
Thankfully you didn’t need to, as Lucifer was speaking once again. “You can pick which one of us you’d like to watch over you during your stay here. You should feel honored, usually, we would just assign you to someone without you even getting a say in the matter. I would recommend myself or even--”
“You.” Mammon’s pointing at you before Lucifer could finish his sentence. “I want you to watch over me.” The room grew silent during the exchange between the two of you. You were sure everyone was suspicious now; why wouldn’t they be? What human is so eager to pick from a batch of demons he’s never met before? If he never met you, he wouldn’t have chosen so quickly, and he wouldn’t have cut off Lucifer to do so, and he most certainly wouldn’t have--
“Very well then.” Lord Diavolo was smiling as he looked over the room. “Mammon, I’m sure you’ll find yourself in good hands. An excellent pick of a demon, second only to Lucifer. While they can stir up a bit of trouble from time to time, I think you’ll find yourself relatively safe by their side for the most part.” Relatively safe? And for the most part? Gee, thanks, you think to yourself with narrowed eyes.
As soon as Lord Diavolo called the meeting to a close, you darted out of there with Mammon. He struggled to keep up with your pace, though he managed for the most part. Most of the brothers assumed your odd behavior was simply because you didn’t want to bother looking out for a human and you were secretly glad that’s what they thought. “You need to be more careful when speaking to Lord Diavolo.” You said as the two of you headed back to the House of Lamentation. Mammon was stomping around in only a towel. It was almost comical if you weren’t so terrified of the outcome of the exchange program. “Lucifer will wring your neck if you disrespect him.” Mammon only huffed in response.
“Ya have some explainin’ to do, demon.”
“I know.” A sigh left you as your head started to throb from the conversation that had yet to begin.
“Like why ya just upped and disappeared and shit, then I turn around and find ya in some weird shady place.”
“The council room is hardly a shady place.”
“Are ya bein’ for real?” He gave you an unconvinced look. “Although I guess now it makes sense how you were able to scare those thugs off. Some demonic shit or somethin’.”
“You have to stop swearing so much. Lucifer will get annoyed.” You ran a hand over your face to smoothen out your features. Oh, this would be a long, long year.
“Lucifer this, Lucifer that. Is all ya ever think about Lucifer?”
“The man who can and will rip my head off for misbehaving? Yes. And I’m already on thin ice with him. He got super pissed when he found out I snuck off to the human realm again. I’m surprised I’m not wearing a house arrest bracelet right now.” You make a point of keeping Mammon by your side, lest he wanders off and gets eaten by a demon.
“So that’s the reason ya didn’t come back?” You glanced back at him, confused as to why he was asking.
“Yeah. I wasn’t allowed to. He even went as far as going to Lord Diavolo to make sure I don’t travel anywhere.” You didn’t feel too comfortable airing out all your problems with Lucifer to Mammon. Call yourself crazy, but he didn’t exactly give you vibes that he was great with secrets. Lucifer finding out you were unhappy with him through a human? Yeah, that wouldn’t be a fun day for any of you.
“I still think I’m dreamin’ this all up. That, or I really did fall while gettin’ out of the shower and cracked my head wide open.”
“I can assure you that you are neither dreaming nor bleeding out in your shitty apartment bathroom.” There was a grin on your lips as you spoke. “Now, walk faster. We need to get back to my house before a demon sweeps you up and runs away. You’re literally parading around in a towel; you might as well be serving yourself on a silver platter.”
“It’s not like it was in my control.”
“Still, we should hurry. Your soul is practically glowing.”
“Ya still have explainin’ to do.”
“Are you serious?” You grabbed him by the arm to quicken his pace. “I already told you. I snuck to the human realm, met you on accident, ran into you on the street, then again at the cafe, and then a third time at night.”
“Makes ya sound like a stalker.” There’s a sly grin on his lips and you feel your eye twitch.
“I’m not a stalker. They were all coincidences. Like I’d go out of my way to find you. Don’t get cocky, you’re only a human after all.” A chill settles over you. Okay, maybe you had gone out of your way once or twice, but he didn’t need to know that. “Besides, it happens all the time. I’ve lived hundreds and hundreds of years. You think you’re the only human I’ve ever bumped into on the street?”
“No,” there’s a thoughtful look on his face as he gripped his towel with his free hand to keep it from falling, “but I bet I’m the only human you’ve ever gone out of your way to save.” Your eyes narrowed and you huff quietly.
“Hey, don’t go spreading that around. You’ll ruin my reputation, you know.” To this, you only hear a quiet chuckle from Mammon.
With the two of you standing outside the House of Lamentation, you dug for your keys in your pocket. Mammon shifted uncomfortably behind you. “Would ya mind hurryin’ it up? Some of us are practically naked out here.”
“Announce it louder; maybe another demon will take you off my hands.” You chuckled to yourself when hearing an annoyed sigh from behind you. “Be patient.” You scolded lightly as you went to unlock the door. With the turn of the key, the door opens to reveal the inside of the house. Mammon shuffles in nervously behind you, his eyes anxiously taking everything in.
“Sure is, uh, roomy.”
“You’re back.” Mammon nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of Lucifer. He quickly moved behind you, anxiously peering over your shoulder.
“Yes, well, it turns out Mammon is quite the slow walker.” You ignored the look on Lucifer’s face and gave Mammon a reassuring smile. “Well? Let’s go; you want to see your room, don’t you? You’ll be given a change of clothes there.”
“Say no more.” Mammon’s hurrying down the hall before you can say anything else, leaving you and Lucifer alone for the moment.
“It seems friendly with you.” His tone is accusatory, and while you have an idea of what he’s implying, you try not to let it show on your face. Sometimes, playing dumb when around Lucifer was the best action to take.
“I suppose.” You played it off. “I think the human is just nervous to be in the Devildom. Can you blame it?” You flinch at the usage of your own words. You didn’t like referring to Mammon that way, but it might make Lucifer less suspicious of you the more detached you sound. “Humans aren’t exactly meant for the Devildom, and it doesn’t help that Lord Diavolo summoned it in just a towel. Might as well stuff an apple in it’s mouth and put it on a plate.” Lucifer seemed to take your words into consideration before a sigh escaped his lips.
“You may have a point.” You felt the tension begin to leave your body. “The human was quick to select you. You don’t find that odd?”
“I think you’re just intimidating.”
“And you aren’t? You’re no less intimidating than the others. It could have picked anyone, yet it settled for you. I couldn’t even finish my sentence before you were selected. There also,” there’s a pause in Lucifer’s speech, as if he’s carefully forming a sentence in his mind, “never mind that. Just do your job and make sure a demon doesn’t pluck the human like a fruit hanging from a tree. We’ll be meeting the rest of the exchange students tomorrow, as well as attending classes, so make sure the two of you get enough rest tonight. I will not tolerate anyone skipping the first day of classes, nor will I excuse any tardiness.”
And with that he’s gone, making his way back toward his office. A sigh of relief left you before you snapped out of your daze. “Shit,” you swore silently. Mammon didn’t know where his room was.

I HOPE U ALL ENJOY!!!
----------
Night had fallen but the air was still so warm, so humid.
The sound of gently rolling sapphire waves washing up onto pristine white sand, the exotic scent of surrounding tropical fauna mingling with the smoky burn of a BBQ bonfire malms away down the coastline, the gorgeously ethereal shine of moonlight above in the onyx sky.
From where you stood upon the polished wooden floor of your private bungalow suite with your window open, you were in the ideal position to take in all the sights, scents, and sensations that elated each of your senses.
Truly, it was a beautiful night to be in Costa del Sol.
Though, one whiff of the salt-tinged ocean air instantly took you back to the snow swept lands of Ishgard.
The city you had since called to be your home.
Something made official when you were finally wed to the one and only Aymeric de Borel.
He was why the two of you were in Costa del Sol in the first place.
Aside from finally having the proper honeymoon that the two of you did not get to enjoy after your wedding--given that the escalated rebellions in Ala Mhigo and Doma called for your immediate presence--there was one specific reason why you were here to admire this gorgeous Costa del Sol night.
Wearing nothing but an exquisite royal blue lace chemise.
It wasn’t too long ago that you had just finished up assisting Stephanivien with teaching a lecture to a new class of fresh-faced machinists at the Skysteel Manufactory when none other than a beaming Haurchefant came sprinting towards you the moment you emerged through the door.
“Many tidings to you, my splendid friend! I wish you great blessings upon the Borel heir to be!”
The first sentence you were prepared for, the second you were not.
“Borel heir...to be?” You repeated as your mind processed just what Haurchefant chirped to you.
Though, before you could ask for what he meant, the towering knight was suddenly made to bow by none other than one irritated Estinien.
“Oi, we were supposed to head out to Aurum Vale already,” he grumbled, just before looking towards you with a look of resigned exasperation. “As for you, it’s better if you hear what lover boy has planned for you himself.”
Without sparing another word to even begin to clarify, Estinien proceeded to drag Haurchefant--who happily offered you his goodbyes with a supportive thumbs up--away while muttering something about sprout greenling paladins who bit off more they could chew.
Your subsequent return to the Borel Manor where your husband was there to tenderly greet you with a loving embrace and tender kisses resulted in his affectionate expression becoming intensely flustered when you brought up Haurchefant’s sudden declaration.
The parchment letter marked with the seal of one of Costa del Sol’s most luxurious resorts that was tucked in his pocket was thankfully still kept as a surprise at the very least.
Thus, with the reveal that soon followed, you and Aymeric took off from Ishgard’s eternal winter to bask in the endless summer of Costa del Sol.
And why you were gazing out towards the evening tropical scenery with a fluttering heart.
After all, tonight was meant to not only celebrate the union between you and your husband, but to begin the journey of bearing an heir to the Borel name.
Though Ishgard was in the midst of a historical change within its society to break from tradition and move towards a more open-minded one, there was still an expectation for the House of Lords’s speaker to sire a child, the pressure of which had been pushing increasingly upon Aymeric’s shoulders during your absence.
While starting a family was a conversation that the two of you had spoken about in earnest throughout your relationship prior to this night, to do so now with the layer of political presumption from Ishgard’s governing body was enough to twist your nerves into knots.
A feeling that dissipated the moment you felt a pair of arms wrap tenderly around your waist.
Body heat exemplified by a recent hot shower emanated behind you, the sensation deepened by a chiseled bare chest pressing right against your back, pushing the warmth even further into your skin through the flimsy fabric of your chemise, of which contrasted with the thicker material of a bath towel that hung securely on sturdy hips.
And even here, in a tropical paradise that was oceans away from the inescapable snow that enveloped all of Ishgard, a delightful shiver still trailed along your body from the words that was murmured hotly into your ear,
“I must send my regards to the hotel staff for their hospitality. I did not expect to receive such a divinely wrapped present after my bath.”
Your head turned back, your eyes soon captivated by sapphire irises that gazed earnestly into yours with affection.
Almost overwhelmingly so.
You were used to seeing love akin to absolute reverence in Aymeric’s eyes whenever your gaze would meet his.
But unlike the light that glinted in his blue eyes from when he helped out off the boat that carried you to Costa del Sol, here on this night, there was a darkened, longing desire reflected in his gaze.
Though you had faced many a foe whose schemes spelled ruin across every inch of the realm, it was now that you suddenly found yourself shrinking back with shyness. Giggling amidst your overwhelmed nerves, you teased in response, “Must you charm me more, Ser Aymeric? Was our wedding not enough?”
“You know I will never have enough of you, darling.”
You froze.
Aymeric’s voice was already so dulcetly rich and deep, but the tone of his words smoldered with conviction.
His embrace around your ample waist tightened, a sigh of utter satisfaction escaping him as he beheld your full physique, his face finding its way to the crook of your neck for loving nuzzles. “Gods, when was the last time I’ve gotten to hold you like this? Every inch of you is divine--how I never wish to let go of you.”
Each word spoken was laced with need, all while his hands began to trail over your body in soft caresses, even while his fingers ached to tear off the lace that kept him away from your bare skin.
He drew away from your neck, calling out your name huskily as his eyes found yours once more. “Will you pardon this enamored fool for his selfishness during this holiday, my beloved?” His face closed the distance between yours and his as he continued, “I am going to savor this respite like nothing else--the beautiful time spent with turning you into the mother of my children.”
“Aymeric,” you moaned, feeling your knees weaken as you leaned further against him. What more could you even say at this point when he had you reduced to such a state by the conviction in his words alone?
While he looked all too pleased from having you already melting in his arms, his expression turned serious as he remarked, “Before we begin, I want to make this clear and certain—by no means are we doing this for the sake of Ishgard.”
His hands rested protectively upon your soft belly, his heart already thrumming with excitement to witness your stomach grow rounder and full with his child upon the months to follow. “As you know, starting a family with you has been something I’ve craved the moment you captured my heart.”
Aymeric brought his lips to yours for a kiss most tender. “We’re doing this out of our own shared volition--the House of Lords finally granting me respite so I can claim you over and over was just a blessing from Halone herself.”
Already overwhelmed and dazed by your husband’s intense and loving resolve, all you could let out was a breathless yet eager, “Yes...our shared will.”
A smile quirked onto his lips. “And so we shall share our love with no restraint.”
And then Aymeric’s lips smothered yours for a kiss that was most far from chaste.
Away from the window, towards the bed.
From bathing moonlight to flickering candles.
The kiss shared with your husband was broken for a moment, just so he could gently have you lay upon the bed.
But the moment Aymeric assumed his place on top of you, he became a man possessed.
A man possessed by his love for you, by his desire to claim your body with his seed.
He meant his words from earlier, his hands tearing into the lace of your chemise like gift wrap.
The composed and regal speaker of the House of Lords was nowhere to be found by the way Aymeric hungrily sought out your lips, his hands fondling your supple breasts, his mouth watering at the thought of soon getting to suckle on your nipples and lavish your core with the needy flicks of his tongue while your thick thighs squeezed around his head.
The fumbling yet earnest virgin during the first time you were intimate together was but a precious memory at this point.
Instead, here was a man who knew exactly what to do to elicit the sweet moans of his name off of your lips.
To make you mewl with each teasing pinch and indulgent kiss to your nipples.
To cause your back to arch in sheer pleasure with the obscenely noisy manner he stroked your sopping core with his tongue, all while his hands happily fondled your plump thighs as they remained pressed against either side of his head.
But that knowledge was how he kept you ever on the edge, making sure you remained a step away from your orgasm.
Never to be outright malicious--such would be an outright sin to commit against you as your husband!
Rather, to ready your body for the long and indulgent night to come.
He did not even spare a moment for you to savor his cock with your mouth, keeping you right on your back.
Long had he waited for this moment, and he was going to save every dribble of his cum inside of you instead.
Your lips parted for breathless pants, your cheeks kissed with red heat, your thighs quivering with anticipation once your husband was finally sheathing the full heavy length of his cock into your core.
The delighted hiss of your name from Aymeric’s lips would be forever imprinted in your memory, as would the tremendous pressure he soon exerted as he soon worked the tempo of his thrusts into something swift in its neediness and fierce in its fervor.
One hand locked onto your hip as he plunged his cock into you, the other reached for your breast to squeeze before he planted his lips onto your nipple once more, his mind already anticipating when he would be able to gulp down mouthfuls of sweet milk once you were showing with his child.
Such an experience had him pushing into your core with even greater intensity, of which dragged out yet another lovely squeal from your lips.
He could not resist from grinning, even with his mouth full of your breast.
Onwards he continued, the viciousness of his thrusts sounding out by the indecent slaps of his balls against your ass each time his cock plunged inside of you.
So free, so unrestrained.
Aymeric felt alive, he felt deeply in love.
His lips left your nipple with a pop as he lifted his head, driven by the desire to catch sight of the look on your face as he felt his orgasm approach, all while your slick core milked his cock even more with your own imminent release.
The helpless pleads for more of his touch, the obscenely yearning look of desire on your face.
Halone be merciful on whatever was left of his self-restraint.
Your name was uttered out at a gutteral low from the depths of his throat.
His eyes caught yours yet again, holding onto your gaze as his thrusts quickened in his frantic need for release.
“My beloved, you already enamor me so with those elegant curves of yours--”
You felt the drag of his hand along your body, cupping your breasts, caressing your sides, trailing longingly over your belly.
“--but then, when I think of you strolling through Ishgard, shining with a maternal glow as you carry around our child…!”
A visible shudder seized hold of his body, his teeth clenching with pleasure as he readied himself for what was soon to come, a reaction mirrored by you as you prepared for your own orgasm.
“By the Fury, I will not let you out of this bed until your womb is absolutely flooded with my seed!”
With a snarl, Aymeric captured your lips in a scorching kiss as he pounded into your core harder, hot sticky spurts of his seed soon being pumped into you with each thrust that continued on and on afterwards.
Your arms hugged around his neck, pulling him close as the two of you relished in your orgasms, the two of you smiling into your kiss.
Tonight would be the first of many spent away from Ishgard, but oh how the two of you hoped to return to your home together with a newfound soul in your belly.

Official Accounts Part 27- Think Fast
Summary: (y/n) was perfectly happy remaining anonymous, even if her best friends were all pro heroes and she worked under THE Hawks. Handling the technical aspects of hero work from the background suited her just fine, thank you very much. That goes out the window when suddenly her twitter blows up thanks Denki and the famed no. 2 hero is asking her to run his own official twitter as a result

Hawks watches somewhat apprehensively as you put solo cups, mixers, and multiple handles of hard liquor out on your counter. “You look more terrified right now than I’ve ever seen you before facing a villain,” you point out. “I trained my whole life to fight villains. This is new. How many people did you invite?” He asks incredulously. “Just the Baddies,” you shrug. “All this is for just seven people?” “Technically all this and more, Kacchan’s bringing beer and Mina’s bringing white claws. Don’t worry we won’t finish it all!” you assure him before briefly pausing. “We probably won’t finish it all,” you correct yourself. At seeing the continued hesitation in Hawks’ face you stop your preparations for a moment and turn to him. “Hey I can call this whole thing off if you want,” you offer, but he shakes his head. “No, no don’t do that. Beneath the nerves I’m excited I promise. Plus what would people think if the great Hawks chickened out of a simple little party?” “I’m more worried about Keigo right now than Hawks.” “Keigo will also be fine.” “Ok, but you are more than welcome to stop drinking whenever. We won’t pressure you to get drunk if you don’t want to.” “I am older than you, yknow. You don’t have to baby me.” “Older yes but I, dear Keigo, am the more experienced and wiser one here.” “Well then, oh wise one, why don’t you show me the proper way to take tequila shots.” “I’ll grab the limes.”
You and Keigo might have gotten the tiniest bit carried away with your pregame so by the time the rest of your friends come knocking at your door you’ve already got a buzz going. As you swing the door open Denki and Mina are grinning back at you, Denki with an impressive bag of weed and Mina with the promised white claws, as the other three wave from behind them. “Let’s get fucking plus ultra in this bitch!” Mina yells and the rest of you reply with similar enthusiasm as you usher everyone inside. “Hawks and I already started so you guys have to catch up,” you tell them as you unlock your phone and toss it to Kirishima to pick the music.
At the start of the night you made a point to stick close to Keigo so he’d always have a familiar face to rely on if he got overwhelmed or didn’t feel like talking anymore, but as the drinks kept flowing you were delighted to find he seemed to be doing just fine on his own. In fact, Denki genuinely seemed keen on getting to know him more and the rest of your friends were just as welcoming. Soon it felt just like any of you all’s usual hangs and it wasn’t much longer after that that everyone was properly drunk. Soon Mina had somehow convinced Bakugo and Kirishima to back her up in an impromptu round of karaoke while Shinso and Hawks watched on from the sidelines. Denki sidles up next to you, throwing one arm around your shoulder while holding a perfectly rolled joint in his free hand. “Shall we head to the balcony?” he asks with a grin. You throw one more glance Hawks’ way to double check he’s doing well and when you see him burst into laughter as Bakugo and Mina fight over something inane, you feel something warm spark in your chest. “We shall,” you confirm before letting him guide you over to the glass door and opening it with a flourish.
There’s a chill in the air but the alcohol flowing through your veins means you barely feel it as you step onto the balcony and lean across the railing, Denki joining you as he pulls a lighter from his pocket. He places the joint in his mouth and then lights it with the kind of ease that comes from experience before taking a large hit and passing it to you. The two of you pass the joint back and forth a few times before Denki finally speaks up. “So how’s the little arrangement going so far?” he asks. “Better than expected to be honest.” “Have you guys talked about what happened yet?” “Not explicitly. He told me... a lot... about his past so I kinda get it now? but not about the night it went to shit.” Denki hums in acknowledgment. “How are you doing in general after everything that happened?” he asks. “I’m fine Denki.” “(Y/n)...” “I mean it. Don’t worry about little ol me.” “I’ll always worry about you.” “And I, you. Now stop killing the vibe. This is supposed to be a party remember?” Denki laughs at that as you move to sit on the railing of the balcony.
Keigo has to admit he’s pleasantly surprised by how tonight is going. He had worried about dropping into the middle of your friend group and spending the whole night feeling like an intruder but instead all of you have welcomed him with open arms in spite of everything. Between that and the alcohol he’s feeling more uninhibited now than he ever has his entire life. “I should’ve done this sooner,” he declares as he takes another sip from his solo cup. Next to him Shinso laughs, “damn right you should’ve.”
“Hey Kacchan!!” he suddenly hears you call. When he looks over he notices you sitting on the railing of the balcony. That can’t be safe, you have to be at least as drunk as he is and the joint you’d been sharing with Denki has burned pretty low so you’re definitely high too. “Think fast!” you shout and then you’re letting go and leaning backwards until you’re falling, the bright grin on your face never faltering. The blood in Hawks’ veins runs cold as he watches you disappear from sight. The muscles in his back twitch on instinct but barely any of his feathers have grown back yet so he. can’t. save. you. He can’t save you and he’s starting to panic when he notices Bakugo launching himself over the railing, the sound of explosions loud in the quiet night. Hawks jumps as he feels a hand land on his shoulder and turns to find Shinso giving him a reassuring smile. “Sorry should’ve warned you. She does that a lot, especially when she’s drunk,” Shinso tells him. “What? Falls off buildings?” “Yea pretty much.” “What?” “It’s a trust thing. The first time she did it was to prove a point. She knew he’d catch her. Now I think she just likes the feeling of falling while crossed.”
Bakugo reappears over the balcony with you giggling on his back completely unharmed and Hawks releases a breath he didn’t even realize he was holding. “That’s a lot of trust. When’d she start doing that?” Hawks asks. “I’m actually not sure,” Shinso replies, “yo Mina!” “What?” “What year did (y/n) start the whole ‘think fast’ thing? Second or third?” Mina walks over to join the conversation, plopping down next to Shinso. “Uhh I think it was third year after they started dating” she says. Shinso shoots her a look and elbows her but it’s too late. “They dated?” Hawks asks. Mina’s eyes widen in realization but it’s too late to take it back so she instead says “I’m gonna get more to drink!” and jets back off to the kitchen. Shinso rolls his eyes. “Yea, they did. In the end they decided they were better off as friends though, especially because Bakugo was a lot less mature then.” “That’s why she gets away with calling him Kacchan.” “Yea, probably. That was years ago now though, I don’t think anything’s happened between them since. I wouldn’t worry about it,” Shinso assures him before excusing himself to go talk to Denki.
Hawks knows it’s not his place but he can’t help but feel jealous now watching you tease Bakugo about getting slower as he lectures you on being an idiot. “I’m not an idiot!” you pout. “What else would you call someone that intentionally falls off a building?” he seethes. “Was there any chance you would have let me hit the ground?” “Obviously not, dumbass.” “Well there you go! Perfectly safe!” Bakugo sputters, his cheeks reddening, before finally grumbling “I’m getting another drink,” before walking away. This only makes you laugh harder. “Love you Kacchan,” you tease after him. “Fuck you!” he shouts back.
He’s one of your best friends. He’s one of your best friends. He’s one of your best friends. The phrase plays on a loop in Keigo’s head in a desperate attempt to quash the jealousy burning through his chest but he can’t help it. How long had the two of you dated? “Longer than the two of you did,” his brain unhelpfully supplies. His thoughts are interrupted when Kirishima drops down next to him with two beer cans in hand. “You look like you’re pretty deep in your head and (y/n) would kill me if I let you stay that way. Ever shotgunned a beer before?” Kirishima asks. “I didn’t realize I was that easy to read,” Hawks says as he takes one of the offered beers. “Typically you’re not. Watching you in action? You’re totally inscrutable dude, it’s super manly! But when you’re with friends you shouldn’t have to worry about that. Anyway, let’s not talk heavy shit man, am I teaching you to shotgun or not?” “Fuck it, why not.” “That’s the spirit!”
The party eventually reaches its natural conclusion as exhaustion starts to overtake even the effects of alcohol. Not to mention, your friends are keenly aware that unlike you and Hawks they actually have to get up and be out for work tomorrow. Hawks isn’t surprised when you give each of your friends a tight hug goodbye. He is surprised when the same offer is extended to him. It’s almost scary how perceptive your friends can be. When Mina’s hands get a little too close to where his wings should be he can’t help but flinch and immediately she adjusts. The rest of your friends make a point to avoid the area. Bakugo and Kirishima are the last to leave and it takes everything in Hawks not to let his jealousy show as you hug Bakugo goodbye. He’s once again shocked when Bakugo goes to hug him but he soon realizes that it’s not necessarily done to be friendly. “Take good fucking care of her bird brain. Cause if you don’t? I will,” he whispers harshly. As the two pull away from each other their eyes lock in a silent challenge until Kirishima calls from the hallway “Bakubro let’s go! Taxi’s here!” “I’m coming Shitty Hair relax!” he shouts back before finally breaking eye contact and heading out the door with one final wave in your direction.
Author’s Note: The party was honestly pretty built around the “think fast” scene. Once that idea came to mind it refused to leave. The Bakugo stuff well 👀 what can I say I like ✨drama✨ also I felt a little bad that Bird Boy stole the fic I was gonna write for Bakugo from him. Originally I was gonna have Hawks’ jealousy be unfounded but then I saw an opportunity and decided to run with it oops

Track 2: One Last Time (Ten Lee)
Sometimes you still question yourself if choosing your modeling career was the right choice or even leaving your family just so you can go to Paris.
There's still a lot going on inside your mind to this day. Ever since you've been chosen to become one of the models in your agency to go to France, you have never been so happy in your life. It was a dream come true for you but being there made you realize how incomplete you are.
Sometimes you still question yourself if choosing your career over him was the right choice.
Him. Ten Lee.
You two were inseparable ever since elementary. He was there in your ups and downs, you were there when his parents got divorced. You were his first everything and he was yours.
For him, you were the love of his life, his everything. But that was before you broke his heart.
You are officially invited to Ten and Lisa's wedding.
You've read this countless times but it still hasn't sunk in. Lisa was your high school best friend. You knew from the beginning how he feels about Ten but since you were still his girlfriend back then, Lisa didn't have a choice but to accept the fact that you're his.
And now. They're about to get married.
"It's good to have you back here" your sister, Yeri held your hand while she's driving. She just picked you up from the airport.
You're still looking at the invitation when Yeri noticed you.
"You don't have to go, you know" she sighed still focused on the road. "I can't miss Lisa's big day," you said putting the invitation inside your purse.
"Don't you think it's kind of insensitive for her to send you an invitation?" she asked and added "Three years ago when she told you that she's dating Ten, that was foul. I mean you're her best friend and dating your ex is just" she sighed again.
"I have no control over their feelings, Yeri. All I have to do right now is to support them" you tried showing her a smile but failed.
It was exactly six years ago when you chose your career over Ten.
When you got to Paris, you still tried continuing your relationship with him but you weren't happy anymore. Long-distance doesn't work for you but for him everything was possible.
Until he was the only one left trying. Ten knows that you're about to give up but you already did.
Ten supported your career still even though in return, he'll lose you.
When Lisa told you that he was dating Ten two years after you broke up, that made you realize that breaking his heart was a mistake.
And now you're too late.
"We're here" you got back to your senses when the car stopped. Looking at your house, you can't express how happy you are now that you're finally home.
Two days after returning to Seoul, you and Yeri went to Lisa's bridal shower.
"Now you're nervous" Yeri teased you, "I told you this is not a good idea. What will happen to you at the actual wedding? Passed out?"
"I'm fine" you smiled at her. You saw Lisa entertaining her guests and took her a minute to saw you too.
"Oh my God, you're here!" she ran towards you giving you a hug "Hey," you said still hugging her "Six years, y/n. Six freaking years and the only thing that can get you back here is my wedding" Lisa squealed holding both of your hands.
"Well, I can't miss this," you tell her smiling. Yeri scoffed beside you giving Lisa a fake smile.
The night went well. You saw your high school batchmates, got to drink your favorite wine, and you also got to bond with your sister.
Lisa's bridal shower was about to end when you saw Ten entering the venue. You felt like everything stopped. Seeing him again after six years was overwhelming that you can't even think properly.
He went to greet Lisa and the other guests. "You're not supposed to be here! This is an all-girls party" you heard Lisa shooing Ten away but he just held Lisa's hand tighter "I'm here to pick you up. It's getting late" Ten replied.
You were waiting for him to notice you until he did.
"You never told me that Ten got way hotter now," you told Yeri still looking at Ten "Uhm because he's already your ex?" she answered.
"Y/n! Come!" Lisa called you but your feet were glued on the floor so Lisa decided to bring Ten and walked towards you.
Both of you and Ten had an awkward greeting but he made sure he's making you feel comfortable by having a proper conversation with you.
"I'm glad that you'd get to attend," he said. You don't know how to answer that so you just gave him a smile. Ten has known you enough that he can see the pain in your eyes.
He tried not to think about it but seeing you so beautiful tonight can't deny the fact that he missed you too. After all, you were his best friend.
On the way home, you don't even know if it's the alcohol that's making you sad or seeing Ten earlier. You still can't move on from how good he looked.
You still love him. You still do and it sucks.
The night before the wedding, you've decided to visit Ten in his apartment. You knew Lisa's not gonna be there because she's not allowed to be with his groom until the wedding.
Different emotions filling you up right now as you knocked on his door. Drinking too much will make a person too vulnerable and make you do something you'll regret the next day.
And here you are at his doorsteps.
"Y/n?" Ten was clearly surprised because the last thing he wants was a visitor this late at night.
"Can I come in?" Ten was hesitant but he was worried that something's up so he decided to let you in. Walking past him, he smelled the alcohol all over you.
"Are you-" before he even gets to finish his question, you cut him off by saying "I still love you" which shocked him. He was confused, so confused that he became mad at you.
"Why now?" he asked "I know I don't deserve you anymore but please hear me out for the last time" you started crying in front of him.
"I'm sorry it took too long for me to realize the mistake I've done. I swear I tried coming back but Lisa was already there"
"Yes! She was there and is still there. She never gave up on me, y/n. Unlike you who made it seem so easy"
You were sobbing and Ten was just looking at you.
"I'm so sorry" you hugged him and he was doing nothing. Just letting you hug him. Ten missed you so much but this isn't right at all.
When you let go of him, you looked him straight in his eyes still crying "I missed you" you whispered. This isn't supposed to happen, you both thought but your emotions are fighting back.
Both of you know that the love is still there but for Ten, it's the love for his best friend and not for the person who broke him before.
On the other hand, all you wanted to do was kiss him again but before you could even do it, you passed out in his arms.
Waking up to familiar yet unfamiliar surroundings, you see yourself wearing a man's shirt. Realizing where you are, the events from last night flashed in your head.
You facepalmed. You swear in your life that you'll never gonna drink again.
You get up immediately to get your things. You saw Ten sleeping on his couch. I can't wake him, you tell yourself.
You just felt horrible that you're in his apartment, six hours before his wedding but thankful as well because nothing regretful happened last night. Yes, saying those words last night wasn't regretful at all for you because now you have the chance to fully move on.
Ten woke up to the sound of his alarm. Turning it off, he got up to see if you're still in his room but you already left. He sighed remembering what happened last night.
He noticed his and Lisa's wedding invitation on his table alongside a letter.
It was from you.
Dearest Ten,
I'm sorry I wasn't able to bid goodbye properly but what I'm sorry the most is the pain I've caused you. You didn't deserve it at all. The consequences I got when I lost you were enough for me to let you go and what happened last night was a part of it. Even though it wasn't my plan to get drunk and barge in like that, I'm still thankful that all is out now. I'm finally free from the burden inside me. I have decided to go back to Paris and never come back again. It's the least I can do for both of you and that means I can't attend your wedding as well. I'm just scared that everything will come back again if I see you getting married so this is the best solution. Yeri was right, I shouldn't have come in the first place but I think that was because I wanted to see you for the last time again. You were my best friend and you still are but unfortunately, everything has its ending and I'm afraid this is ours. Our history will always have a special place in my heart and I thank you so much for being a part of it. Please make a much better history with Lisa. You deserve each other and I'm glad she's the person you're gonna spend your forever with. Be happy always :)
Thank you for bringing me back home. I will always love you, Ten.
Y/n

He makes it out of the Fold by the skin of his teeth. He uses everything that he has at his disposal; his powers, his experience, even the little bit of faith to the Saints he has retained over the years. It’s enough to get him out in the end, but not enough to make sure he does so unscathed.
Ivan crawls the last few meters away from the outer reaches of the Shadow Fold, tendrils of darkness still clinging to his clothes -or whatever has remained of them, anyway- as if they’re trying to pull him back into the hell he just barely escaped. He knows it’s all in his mind; the Fold isn’t sentient, although it houses sentient forms of life. Still, if there’s even the slightest possibility that something, be it the darkness or its monstrous inhabitants, may appear out of nowhere and drag him back inside, he knows with mortifying certainty he’ll be unable to get away a second time. All of his strength, his willpower, the force of his very life, is spent. It’s quite literally bleeding out of him as he collapses for good between the abandoned ruins of Novokribirsk’s outer reaches, the thick red liquid soaking into the barren ground. Within the haze of pain and exhaustion that muddles his thoughts, Ivan realises what poetic justice means; he helped cause this disaster. He helped drain all life out of this ground. Now, he’s giving it all back with his own blood. That’s alright, he thinks. It’s the circle of life, after all; when someone dies, their essence returns to the Making at the Heart of the World. Their life force seeps back into the heartbeat that makes the earth turn, that moves the waters, feeds the animals, drives the Grisha. They must all return to it when they’re ready.
And Ivan is ready. He really is. He is content to be sacrificing himself for General Kirigan’s righteous purpose, for the good of all the Grisha, for the safety of everyone in Ravka. He’s content to be reunited with his deceased brothers, his father, his uncle. And he would have been content to leave this cold, cruel world behind, if it wasn’t for one thing. One mere little thing that’s still holding him back. That is making him think he’s not yet ready to leave this plane of existence.
He doesn’t want to leave Fedyor behind.
It’s foolish, really. They’re soldiers, and the knowledge that one or both of them will most likely meet an untimely death, far out of reach from the other, has been ever-present in their relationship even before they made their feelings known. It had all been a silly little fantasy, a comforting but naïve dream, thinking that they may get the chance to grow old together, to die in bed held in each other’s arms after living to see Ravka in peace. Ivan had always believed himself to be a pragmatist, if not a pessimist- but this dream, this hope… Fedyor had almost made him believe they would get their happy ending. And now… it hurt. It hurt to think that he would leave Fedyor behind. That his death would extinguish his beloved’s warm, bright smile. That it would break his heart.
What Ivan wouldn’t have given to be able to speak to Fedyor one last time. To say all the things he may have kept to himself all those years. ‘I love you’. ‘You’re the light of my life’. ‘There is nothing more important to me than you are’. Fedyor knows already, and Ivan is aware. But still- he has been frugal with words of affection. Fedyor deserved so much more than his silent. Sometimes actions may speak louder than words, but others, you need to hear those words from someone’s lips. Words are comfort; words are a promise. Ivan didn’t realise until now. But now it’s too late, far too late.
Ivan closes his eyes as the sun sets below the horizon, somewhere to his left. Part of him mourns its descent; he already misses the warmth, the light. The sun… Fedyor is his sun. The Starkov girl, the traitor, may be the Sun Summoner, but nothing she does will ever come close to the warmth radiance that Fedyor emits just by existing.
“F-Fedya…” Ivan chokes on his own blood, sputtering and coughing until his lungs feel like they’re on fire. He knows he’s alone, and that Fedyor can’t hear him. But he wants to speak his beloved’s name just once more. A prayer, a goodbye.
Darkness seems to ebb out of the Fold and engulf the world around him, but it is just the night. Simply the natural order of things. Ivan gradually begins to shiver, his temperature dropping by the minute due to blood loss as well as the lack of a proper heating source. He groans softly; the little spasms that run through his body make the pain worse, make his wounds feel as if they’re being torn anew over and over again. But soon even those weak sounds fade, his strength nowhere nearly enough even for that. It’s barely enough to keep him breathing. To keep his heart beating.
The hours pass, or at least he thinks so; he cannot be sure. When he hears the distant sound of hoofbeats on the ground, he initially dismisses it as a hallucination, or perhaps even Death itself riding on its black steed to come claim his soul. But then something else tugs at the corners of his senses; a sound as familiar as breath, as life itself. A heartbeat he would be able to recognise even if he was already dead.
Ivan wants to stand. He wants to shout, to draw the attention of the one person that’s still keeping him tied to this world, that is making life worth living. But he cannot move- he cannot even speak. He can only lay in silence and pray with all of his might to whatever Saint is still watching over him, that Fedyor will detect his heartbeat just as Ivan detected his. That he won’t just ride right past him, leaving him to die alone, and cold, and in so much pain.
Don’t leave me. Fedya, please, don’t leave me.
Call it a miracle, call it divine intervention, or just luck. But the sounds that have stirred Ivan from his dying slumber draw closer and closer, until there’s no further doubt- it’s not a hallucination. It is real. This is real. He’s not alone.
A voice, a familiar and adored voice, calls his name. Fedyor is suddenly kneeling on the ground next to him, the flickering light of a traveling lantern illuminating his face. His eyes are brimming with tears, and all he repeats, over and over, is Ivan’s name.
“Vanya, my Vanya. It’s alright. I’m here now. You’ll be okay my love, I promise.”
Strong arms lift him slowly, as carefully as possible, and Ivan hears his own voice distantly as he cries out. Saints, the pain- it’s unlike anything he has ever experienced before. He feels his insides may drop out of his body from the gaping wounds across his chest and stomach, and he’s not certain whether or not his right arm is still properly attached to his body. It surely doesn’t feel like it is. But Fedyor whispers words of comfort to him, even as Ivan chokes and coughs up more blood. He cannot reply, although he dearly wants to; he wants to thank Fedyor, he wants to ask him not to leave him, to be gentle because oh, it all hurts so bad. And even though he’s unable to talk, and can only stare at his beloved pleadingly through blurry eyes, Fedyor understands. Fedyor has always understood, and now it’s no exception. He presses a soft kiss on Ivan’s blood-streaked brow, and sets himself to work.
Ivan flashes in and out of conscience while Fedyor and his Grisha companions clean and bandage his wounds. Even amidst unconsciousness, however, Ivan can feel his partner’s steady, unwavering and comforting presence. And he knows, now, that everything will be okay.
The next time Ivan comes properly around, the pain has subsided. Someone has lit a fire between the ruins that have offered shelter to the group, and there’s something soft and warm enveloping him. It takes him a moment to realise it’s Fedyor’s kefta, having replaced his own torn and ruined clothes. Fedyor himself is holding him in his arms, humming a soft Fjerdan lullaby- one that Ivan had sung to him during a particularly bad injury, while the Healers at the Little Palace had been patching Fedyor up. Despite himself, despite everything, Ivan’s lips twitch into a small smile. Fedyor smiles back, and leans down to gently bump their noses together.
“I’m here, lapushka.” He says reassuringly, as if he knows it’s just what Ivan needs to hear. The latter sucks in a wobbly breath, but Fedyor immediately shakes his head.
“No, don’t try to talk now. Just rest. I’ll stay with you.”
There’s no need for words between them, as there has never been. But Ivan silently promises, both to Fedyor and himself, that as soon as he regains his ability to speak, he’s going to tell Fedyor every day how much he loves him, how much he means to him, how thankful he is that Fedyor didn’t abandon him out here in the darkness and the cold.
Before sleep overtakes him, he swears he won’t ever again leave those words unspoken.

BABYSITTING A 26 YEAR OLD WOMAN IS NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER’S JOB!
CHAPTER 2
A/N: And the second chapter is finally here. I thought I’d be able to finish the story in two chapters but I guess its not happening anymore. The next chapter will be the final one so just wait a little longer. I hope the story isn’t getting dragged too much but I hope you'll enjoy it. And I'll do my best to give it a proper conclusion. Thank you so much for reading this! ^-^
*****
The night sky glimmered with a shade of silver when he felt the dying man point a kunai at his back in a desperate last attempt to kill him. The man knew how cowardly he was, just like him. While webbing a pathetic web to catch the moon, he tried to reach for the moon, look after the moon, mold the moon with his own hands only to understand that the moon illuminated high above him, shining brightly in the dark as he failed to reach her.
She screamed his name, cried out for him to stop but it was too late now. A kunai was already thrown at its designated direction, soon followed by a loud thud that echoed inside that almost pitch black room.
He was lying on the ground, a pool of blood forming around his deformed face as Gintoki turned around in shock to find her standing right behind him. Her beaten up face held no emotions; she looked distant. Cold. But most importantly, broken.
“Yes…That’s exactly how….it should be.”
The spider desired to die by his own hands. And she finally fulfilled his wish.
*****
“To Tsukuyo, that man meant a lot. He was a father-figure to her after all.” Hinowa continued, her eyes once again brimming with tears. “I strongly disliked him for his methods but even after everything he did, I know how great of an impact he had on her life. She looked up to him, always and it was not because of some shallow reasons but because he gave her a purpose. And she too wanted to be as strong as him. She too wished to protect something. But after that day, even though she never talked it, I know how much she was hurting. How much she wanted to change something, how much she wanted to save him.”
Gintoki quietly listened as he remembered the night at the abandoned teahouse. He remembered the look on her face and how much he feared for such a thing to happen. Guilt and regret can make a living man turn into a walking corpse. He knew that. And he saw that. Not just in that man but even in himself. He knew the cost one has to pay when they’re burdened with such agonizing memories and like a pathetic man, he too once tried to escape from it in a very similar manner. And if he was being honest with himself, maybe he’d try to run away from that pain once again.
“Gin-san.” Hinowa spoke once again. “Please take Tsukuyo to the surface with you for today. If she goes there and meet others, maybe she’ll be able to remember.”
The restlessness in her voice didn’t go unnoticed by Gintoki but just like her, he too knew there was no other option for them to bring Tsukuyo’s memories back. It was a risk they would have to take and Hinowa was now entrusting it all to him.
A part of him was scared of things not working out but another part just couldn’t say no. Scratching his perm hair, Gintoki let out a long sigh as he decided to accept Hinowa’s request. “Guess there’s no other way.” His voice was back to its normal dull tone. “So you want me to babysit after all, right Hinowa-san?”
The sarcasm in his voice was purely evident but seeing the man trying to lighten the tense environment, Hinowa gave him a small grateful smile. “Right now, you are the only person I can entrust Tsukuyo with.”
“Yeah, yeah. But don’t forget to treat me with some really fine sake after this.” He bluntly expressed.
Hinowa only found herself smile brightly at this. “Of course I will not!”
Standing up from the bench, Gintoki stretched his arms and decided to get ready for his next job. “So? How do we do this?” he asked.
“Don’t worry.” Hinowa said as she stood up from her seat. “I’ll go inside and talk to her about this. Maybe I’ll be able to convince her to visit the surface with you. Please wait here for a little.” With a small smile, she bowed her head and then went inside.
Fifteen minutes later, Gintoki heard footsteps come from behind as he turned around to see Hinowa coming outside with a small smile on her face. He wouldn’t lie, these past few minutes sure made him feel a little anxious about their whole plan because there was definitely a huge chance that Tsukuyo would refuse to go outside with a complete “stranger” like him. However, when he found Hinowa looking back at him with those hopeful eyes of hers as she sneakily signed him a quick thumbs up, Gintoki felt a huge burden leaving his chest.
Appearing from the main door, a very small yet familiar figure once again came out as she stood beside Hinowa now. Tsukuyo was still wearing the same kimono as before and even though he knew who that person was, a part of him still couldn’t accept this rather ridiculous reality in front of him. However, those few little doubts were cleared immediately as he found those amethyst orbs looking right back at him and all his mind could utter then was “ah, this is her.”
“Tsukuyo, say hi to him.” Hinowa said as she put a reassuring hand on her tiny shoulder.
Gintoki could see her reserved mannerism as she formally greeted him with a bow. “Hello.”
“Um…hello.” Gintoki awkwardly replied.
Tension filled the room as both found themselves staring at each other for a few seconds before Hinowa broke the silence. “Tsukuyo.” She bent down to reach her height as Tsukuyo once again turned to face her elder sister. “I don’t mean to pressurize you but I hope you understand the situation. You were sick for two days straight and right now even I can’t spend time with you properly. I promise you will enjoy your day with Gin-san.”
“But Hinowa, I’m fine! And ya’ve been workin’ so much so I’ll-“
“Don’t worry about me right now, dear. And no, I’m not letting you work.” Placing a reassuring hand on her cheek, Hinowa gave Tsukuyo her signature smile. “I know you are worried about me but you know I can’t leave. And…I want you to get better. I’m sorry I can’t join you but can you please fulfill my request for today?”
Gintoki always knew how good was Hinowa at in persuading Tsukuyo and even though right now she was a child, she was still Tsukuyo. And there was no way she could ever say no to Hinowa.
Pouting, Tsukuyo simply nodded in defeat. “…Okay. I’ll go.”
A huge beaming smile spread on her lips. “Thank you so much, Tsukuyo! I’m sorry for being so selfish, please forgive me for today.”
Tsukuyo shook her head lightly, a small, reassuring smile on her lips. “Don’t apologize, Hinowa. I know yer doin’ it for me. So, I’ll go and enjoy my day.”
Hearing this, Hinowa felt her eyes water a little but once again smiled apologetically at her. This was still the same Tsukuyo she had always known and yet, a part of her couldn’t accept it, couldn’t accept her. This thought itself made her feel disgusted but no matter how complicated the situation was, it was not the time to give up.
But..I will have to try. No matter how ashamed she was of herself, she would have to give it a chance. Consequences would come later, if there was a chance, she wanted to give it a try. Standing up, she turned to look back at Gintoki who was still awkwardly standing there. “Gin-san. Please, I leave her in your care.”
The desperation in her voice as Gintoki simply nodded at that. Unlike Hinowa who apparently seemed to have confidence in him, he was literally sweating inside. Not only was bringing someone’s memories back was easy but the way Tsukuyo was looking at him right now gave him a pretty decent idea that she was not very fond of him.
“So, yer the savior of Yoshiwara?” Tsukuyo asked as she walked towards him.
Gintoki didn’t like that. “Um… apparently, yes.”
“Hmm.” She stopped in front of him, her eyes scanning him as if he was the most suspicious man to ever exist in this universe. “You have weird hair.”
A vein popped on his head as Gintoki heard Hinowa snort lightly. Twenty-six or ten, Tsukuyo was still Tsukuyo. And whether she remembered him or not, it was clear that she would always make fun of his perms. “Oi! What the hell did you just say, wo- brat!?”
“Um..nothin’.” Tsukuyo innocently replied, her playful smile not going unnoticed by the flustered man as she once again formally greeted him. “It’s nice ta meet ya. I’m Tsukuyo. I’ll be in yer care for today.”
Good thing you’re a child right now or you know I wouldn’t have let this go. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Gintoki scoffed, his voice back in his normal bored tone as he turned to leave the tea house. “Hinowa-san! I want my sake and payment to be ready so don’t turn your back on me!”
“Of course I won’t. Take care you two! I will see you guys later.” Hinowa smiled and waved them goodbye as she watched Tsukuyo silently followed the man who was now taking out his scooter.
I’m sorry Tsukuyo. I know I’m being selfish but I can’t leave you behind like this. Hinowa saw the little girl wave back at her with a small, worried smile. Whatever the results come, I will accept it. But for now, I will have to try. Please Gin-san, I leave the rest to you.
*****
It was already noon by the time since Gintoki and Tsukuyo reached the surface and now the scorching sun over their head was making them feel dizzy. More than thirty minutes had passed since they left Yoshiwara and now were riding aimlessly on the busy streets of Edo and the temperature was not currently helping him with his thought process. Sure, Gintoki did agree to take Tsukuyo with him for today but he had no idea what he was supposed to do. Or at least he didn’t have a definite plan. He always knew that Tsukuyo was a woman of few words but even as a child she would be like this, Gintoki really had no idea. All this time she was silently sitting behind him like an obedient child with his huge helmet on and not for once did she try to initiate a conversation, let alone ask him any basic question. And even though he understood the reasons behind her silence, Gintoki couldn’t help but feel a little anxious about their situation. Right now, he was the adult and had taken full responsibility of her. The last thing he wanted to do was make her feel uncomfortable while she visited an almost forgotten place.
“So, where do you wanna go?” Gintoki finally asked as he sped up his scooter after the street lights turned green.
“How’d I know mister? I’ve never been ‘ere.” Came her immediate answer from behind.
Gintoki pictured himself hit his head on a wall at this. Just calm down me! He had no idea what kind of expression she had and the silence made him so nervous he ended up blurting out such a silly question. But the fact that she simply answered his question without much hesitancy put his heart at ease a little.
“Oh yeah. Sorry I kinda forgot.” He apologized, his eyes still on the busy road.
“It’s okay. I jus’ didn’t wanna make Hinowa worry ‘bout me so I agreed to come ‘ere with ya.” She replied sincerely. “But it really feels strange ta visit the surface after almost three years. I never thought so much of it’d change. And the sun is so bright too, it’s really hot.”
Wow, she’s actually talking now. “Yeah it is. But you used to visit here pretty often.”
“Oh. I…don’t remember much.”
Gintoki slightly turned over his shoulder to find her looking down, the wistful look looming over her face at this. “It’s okay, don’t think about it much.” He consoled, once again facing the road. “Wanna visit a café? We can save ourselves from the damn heat at least.”
Maybe it was her condition but Gintoki still could not believe he was being so generous and polite to her. Kagura and Shinpachi would never believe him if he acted like this in front of them.
Looking up at the back of his head, Tsukuyo obliviously asked. “Huh? What’s that?”
“Ah-” Gintoki tensed up. Of course she didn’t know what a café was! “It’s a place where you get kinds of food and beverages.”
“Oh! I’ve heard of that!” Tsukuyo replied, her voice slightly curious. “I once overheard some courtesans talk about the maid cafés and the services they provide to their masters there. I think they’re pretty similar to the teahouses we have at Yoshiwara so it’s nothin’ new.”
Gintoki almost crashed his scooter against a light pole at this but fortunately pressed the breaks and turned around in shock. “W-What!? No! That’s not what cafes are!”
Tsukuyo’s small hands tightly grabbed his kimono at the sudden halt as she looked up, perplexed.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Gintoki groaned at the misunderstanding that Tsukuyo’s young mind had crafted. “Th-That’s not what cafes are like. Not even maid cafes.”
“Eh? They’re…not?”
The way she innocently blinked at him almost made him forget that this was the same Tsukuyo who once let Seita run a sex toy shop and even boldly poured lotion on her body while visiting a public swimming pool. Sure Gintoki was well aware of the fact that she was raised in Yoshiwara but right now, she was a child and having such misconceptions at such an age was wrong.
“Well..” Gintoki calmly tried to explain, “cafes here are not the same. They do provide service to the customers but…it’s not the kind of…service..that is generally provided at Yoshiwara. You only go there to get some delicious food and beverages and…that’s all.”
A small “Oh” came out of her mouth as he saw her turn away from him, her cheeks getting pink. Chuckling lightly at her expression, Gintoki too turned around to kick start the engine. “Don’t worry about it. Hinowa-san wanted you to enjoy your day so we can always go there and grab something to eat.”
Hearing him, Tsukuyo turned to once again face his back as for the very first time today, a small, jittery smile spread on her lips. “Hmm!”
Gintoki only grinned back at her reaction as he sped up his scooter. He couldn’t help but be excited because now was the time for him to make her taste his favorite heavenly double cream strawberry parfait which she always refused to have.
Finally reaching his destination after a few minutes later, Gintoki and Tsukuyo finally made their way inside the café. The cool, refreshing air inside felt too good on their burning skin as they took a seat near the large glass window. Checking her surrounding and realizing how sophisticated and well-designed the interior was, Tsukuyo came to a conclusion that this place was pretty expensive.
“Um, Gintoki-san? Are ya sure this is the right place?” Tsukuyo worriedly asked, her voice a mere whisper.
“Huh?” Gintoki quirked his eyebrow at this. “Of course this is right place, what do you mean?”
“Ya don’t have ta spend so much money here just ‘cus ya’ve to ta take care of me.” Tsukuyo advised. “Hinowa told me that ya don’t have much money so if ya spend it on me, I don’t think it’d be reasonable.”
Once again Gintoki could clearly hear the same stubborn, reasonable Tsukuyo who would always stop him from bringing her here. Not like Gintoki had money all the time that he could invite someone else in with him in his favorite café but surprisingly, Gintoki had invited Tsukuyo here twice with him before and both the times she refused his offer because she didn’t want him to spend any money on her. It wasn’t that he asked her for this with any ulterior motive and she was completely aware of this but a wishful part of him wanted to take her there and maybe, just wanted to see her loosen up a little with him. But now that he had succeeded to bring her here (in her ten year old self), she once again started nagging him.
Hinowa-san you just had to tell her that! Gintoki mentally sighed at his luck. “Don’t worry about the money I’ve enough with me today. It’s my treat.” He reassured. “Plus I’m gonna get enough payment from Hinowa-san so I better do my job properly. After all, Gin-san is a responsible adult!”
“But-“
“No buts!” Gintoki retorted before she could argue. “I’m doing my job here so you’re gonna listen to me for today. Waiter!” he called out, “Two heavenly double cream strawberry parfaits here please!”
Tsukuyo tried to refuse him but it was already too late. “But can ya p-“
“Yes I can.” Placing the order, Gintoki settled down his hand on the table and looked at Tsukuyo who looked a little nervous now. I guess I overdid it. “Um, hey,” He apologetically looked at her. “I don’t mean to force you or anything and if you’ve any problem finishing it, I can always finish that for ya. I just thought you might be hungry.”
Tsukuyo immediately looked up at him, her eyes now unwavering and bold unlike before. “It’s a’right. I guess I understand why yer doin’ all o’ this.”
Gintoki stilled in his place. It wasn’t much but maybe she was starting to remember-
“Yer tryin’ to make a move on Hinowa, ain’t ya?”
And he once again felt slamming his head on the glass window.
“Well, I get what yer tryin’ ta do but really ya don’t have ta. I’ll tell Hinowa ya did a good job and ya don’t have to worry ‘bout yer reputation in front of her anymore. So don’t spend so much of yer money.” She continued, her voice suddenly sounding way mature for her age.
“Oi! The hell are ya sayin’?” Gintoki felt his voice raise but immediately lowered it. “Who told ya that I’m trying to make a move on Hinowa!?”
“Um…well isn’t that clear?” Tsukuyo shrugged, her eyes now closed and voice serious and unchanging. “Ya look like a good man so I’m not gonna threaten ya with anythin’. She’s a pretty lady and I get the story- I’m sick and Hinowa’s worried and workin’ all the time so yer ‘ere to help her out and then win her heart by takin’ care of me. That makes perfect sense.”
“No that does not!” Gintoki exasperated at the absurdity of this situation. How many misconceptions she had made while she lost her memories!? “I’m not trying to make a move on her I’m just doing my job here! What kind of story are you spewing inside that head of yours!?”
Tsukuyo eyes snapped open at this. “Y-ya aren’t?”
“No I’m not! Stop jumping into conclusions like that!”
She really doesn’t remember anything…
Once again, Tsukuyo felt her face getting beet red as she faced away from the annoyed man sitting in front of her. “O-oh. I-I’m so sorry I just though ya two were close so…”
Ah! Damn it! “And you thought I was trying to- what’s wrong with you woma- brat!”
“I-I’m sorry I was just….I’m sorry.”
All Tsukuyo could do now was just lower her head in shame and embarrassment while Gintoki left another long exhale. It was gonna take a lot more than just bringing her to a café and having parfait with her. “Well it’s okay. I hope all your misunderstandings are clear now..” He scratched the back of his neck as he too tried to calm himself down.
Tsukuyo just lightly nodded at this which made Gintoki smile. Grown up or not, she always looks cute when she’s flustered. While he agreed with the voice inside his head, he quickly slammed that door of thoughts close and decided to focus on what he was going to do next. But before he could plan further, two huge parfaits were placed in front of them.
“Here’s you order.” The waiter bowed politely and left the two alone.
With the parfaits here, Gintoki completely forgot about his next step as he felt his mouth water. While on the other hand, Tsukuyo only shockingly looked at the huge pile of cream and strawberries which definitely were gonna make her diabetic.
“Let’s dig in!” Gintoki exclaimed as he put a spoonful of it inside his mouth and hummed in delight.
While Gintoki enjoyed his parfait, Tsukuyo remained a little reluctant. Yes, unlike the man sitting in front of him, she was never very fond of sweets. But now that she looked at this man excitingly eating his parfait while also encouraging her to do the same, she too took a scoop from the huge glass and finally tasted it. Surely it was extremely sweet but the moment it’s smooth and creamy texture encapsulated her taste buds, she still couldn’t stop herself from taking another bite.
“Ish sho good!” She exhilarated, her mouth full with cream and strawberries as she dug in to have another scoop.
"Isn't it?" Gintoki cheered.
“Yesh! Khank you shoo mussh!”
Surely it was unusual but now that he was looking at her face with her eyes glittering in pure happiness, Gintoki felt a wave of relief wash down his body as he continued to enjoy his special parfait with the person he so badly wanted to eat with. Even though she was not the adult Tsukuyo he had spent all his time with, he couldn't help but feel proud after finding the child hiding behind those bold, serious eyes. Never did he try to complicate things by thinking much, not even right now when he was casually admitting that he wanted to eat his favorite parfait with her even though she was a ten-year old child right now. Was this normal? Or was there a deeper meaning his actions? Truthfully, he had no idea. But the moment his eyes fell on the same pure smile but now with cream smeared on her cheeks, he realized he didn’t need any special reason to do something for her.
After all, she was still Tsukuyo. And he was just a lazy bum who never needed any specific reason to meet her. Because after everything that happened, one thing was for certain- spending time with her was now second nature to him.

Working until midnight at their bakery doesn't usually have a lot of perks but Eskel wouldn't trade Jaskier crashing into his life during one such evening shift for anything...
A/N: just a chaotic lil origin story for an au that’ll only exist in oneshots bc i’m not organised enough for another proper wip-
-
Morhen Cares Bakery wasn’t particularly well-known.
In fact, as bakeries went, it was just about average and it stayed comfortably just about average until Jaskier came into the picture. Well, crashed into the picture.
Their bakery is usually open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays because Vesemir insists on giving people who don't want to drink a place to spend the evening, even though Lambert very pointedly grumbles about him caring more for strangers than the nights out of his own children whenever he happens to be on the evening shift. Nonetheless, the lights in their bakery only go out when it hits midnight on those days, just like clockwork.
Unlike clockwork, the little bell above the entrance chimes frantically as the door swings open just before twelve on one such Friday that just so happens to be the incredibly busy Valentine’s eve, where everyone had decided they wanted to buy their crushes and loved ones baked goods for some reason.
“We’re closing,” Eskel calls tiredly.
“I only need your last minute!” someone whisper-yells, and Eskel frowns, glancing over the counter.
The man who’s currently gesturing at the clock with desperate hope doesn’t wait for him to reply before literally launching himself over the counter, then scrambling backwards so he’s as close to the counter as possible, leaning against it and breathing heavily.
Eskel only has time to frown before someone else peering through the window and bursting in, once again sending the little bell above their door into a frenzy. At the same time, the stranger on the floor clamps his hands over his mouth, squeezing his eyes shut.
“Is he here?” the second stranger demands, icy malice in his voice.
Praying that he’s not making the wrong assumptions about who he’s meant to be supporting here, Eskel just folds his arms. “We’ve closed now. Unless you’re looking for me, I’m afraid I can’t help you.”
Eskel watches as the man’s eyes travel to his scars before he visibly grimaces, his upper lip curling in disdain, and shakes his head. “No, I doubt you could,” he mutters before leaving just as obnoxiously as he’d arrived.
The stranger curled up at his feet lets out a shaky exhale, distracting him from his brief flare-up of self-consciousness, and looks up at him with a gratitude so heavy, Eskel literally has to take a step back. He has no idea how the other man interprets that but he’s springing up and smiling before Eskel can think to apologise.
“Thank you. Gods, thank you for that,” he whispers.
“Yeah, no problem,” Eskel replies, then frowns at the way the other man seems to be swaying on his feet. “Are you alright?”
There’s a moment of silence before the man lets out a strained chuckle. “I’m very sorry but I think I’m going to pass out now.”
He thinks right.
Cursing, Eskel lunges forwards to catch him as his eyes flutter shut, twisting to one side as they both fall and landing in an awkward heap but thankfully managing to avoid head wounds for either of them. He has no idea what the protocol is for unconscious strangers at midnight but he can’t just leave the man there so, with a sigh, Eskel lifts him up with one hand under his knees and the other supporting his neck, carrying him into the office at the back.
He only really panics after he finishes closing everything up to find the stranger still lying on the couch, showing no signs of waking up but mercifully still breathing. The only bright side of the situation is that, ironically, he no longer feels tired himself.
“What happened?” Vesemir asks through the phone as soon as he picks up, having reached that point in life where he’s wise enough to know when something’s wrong without anyone having to tell him.
Eskel rubs the back of his neck as he glances back over to the stranger. “Uh, what are you meant to do when someone passes out for no apparent reason?”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” he says quickly, wishing he’d at least said hello first, “but someone came in just as I was closing and now he’s lying in the office and I don’t know what to do.”
“Where are they others?”
“They left a little earlier, I said I’d lock up for today,” Eskel replies, and as much their whole family is prone to lying for each other, that’s actually the truth this time.
Vesemir starts saying something but Eskel is distracted by a soft groan behind him. As soon as he sees the stranger stirring, he sighs in relief. “Wait, he’s waking up. I’ll call you back if it’s anything serious.”
“Make sure he’s not in danger before you let him go,” Vesemir tells him, “and give him something to eat so he doesn’t pass out again.”
Eskel smiles at how fiercely Vesemir continues to just generally care and hangs up even as he’s saying his goodbye, walking over to the stranger and offering him a smile. “Hey, how are you feeling?”
“Not even slightly concussed,” the man replies as if he’s well-acquainted with waking up to concussions, which does absolutely nothing to soothe Eskel’s worries. After a second, he adds, “Thank you for your minute, by the way.”
Eskel raises an eyebrow. “It’s been a little longer than that.”
He means for it to be a joke but the stranger sits up with a guilty frown. “Ugh, I’m sorry. I just really needed a place to hide and I remembered Schro- uh, my friend telling me about this cute bakery that stays open really late and man am I glad I found you but I didn’t mean to ruin your plans, I’m so sorry! You probably had somewhere else to be by now and I totally just interrupted, I swear I’ll make it up to you and- oh hell, you don’t look very impressed, I’m going to go now!”
Or at least he tries to, only to stumble and fall into Eskel when his legs wobble.
Eskel blinks. “Maybe you should take it easy,” he suggests, gently but firmly guiding the other man so he’s sat back on the couch, perching next to him just in case he topples over for a third time.
“Yeah, maybe that’s a good idea,” the stranger mumbles, melting into the cushions as he curls his arms around his stomach.
“Are you hurt?” Eskel asks.
“No, I’m Jaskier,” the man, apparently Jaskier, retorts with a grin.
Eskel snorts, then remembers how worried he still is. “I don’t think having a particular name makes you exempt from injuries.”
He’s strangely pleased with the way Jaskier’s lips curve into a smile and the guilt in his eyes morphs into a sparkling amusement, but he’s also confused as to why he’s paying attention to those details when there are more pressing matters on hand.
“But really, are you hurt?” Eskel repeats.
Jaskier shakes his head, still smiling. “I’ve had far worse, I promise. Just some bruises that are definitely worth the chance to meet you.”
And because the night seems to be against him, he feels himself blushing.
“You are truly the stuff of sonnets,” Jaskier breathes. At that, Eskel scoffs; he’s well aware that he’s the least attractive member of the Morhen family and he really doesn’t need two strangers attempting to mock him in the same night.
“No no no, don’t do that. I promise I’m being honest, I swear on my mother’s grave!” Jaskier blurts, then claps a hand over his mouth. “Ignore that last part, my mother doesn’t even have a grave yet.”
Eskel is trying really hard not to laugh when Jaskier continues, “Amendment, I swear on all things Shakespeare that I am very definitely not pointing out how handsome you are in jest. Is that better?”
“Why Shakespeare?” Eskel asks, but in truth he’s already convinced.
Jaskier shrugs. “I’ve written several dissertations on his work and I can’t think of many other people I’ve suffered through countless sleepless nights for.”
Well, he doesn’t sound like he’s lying. Eskel’s not entirely sure he trusts him just yet but well, Vesemir had instructed him to offer the stranger something to eat so he might as well make good on that promise if nothing else.
“Would you like a cookie? We probably have some leftovers and you seem like you could use one.”
Jaskier blinks, then beams at him. For about a second before his face falls and he deflates. “I don’t have any money.”
“Something to do with that guy chasing you?” Eskel asks quietly.
Jaskier nods. “Yup! Excellent deduction, Sherlock.”
“Who?” Eskel asks, frowning.
Jaskier makes a strange, screech-like noise of disbelief. “You’re kidding. Please tell me you’re kidding. Oh come on, surely you’ve heard of the most famous fictional detective to ever exist?”
He really hasn’t. And it must show on his face because Jaskier sighs loudly, then points at him accusingly. “I am going to make you watch every Sherlock-related piece of media with me as my way of thanking you for all this and that is a promise.”
“It’s half past twelve,” Eskel points out, “and I have work in the morning.”
“Yeah, and? So do I,” Jaskier retorts, then scowls. “Although I’m pretty sure I’m about to be fired permanently this time.”
“I’m sorry,” Eskel offers.
Jaskier waves a hand. “It wasn’t worth any tears. It barely paid the bills and everyone there was so stiff, it was like being the only human on a planet of robots. Androids. Cyborgs? Whatever, you know what I mean.”
Eskel doesn’t think he does, his family is absolute chaos and he loves them for it. He can’t really fathom what kind of job Jaskier is about to lose but to be honest, he’d rather stay ignorant than work in any place like that.
“Is that offer for cookies still on? I’ve just been struck with the inevitable melancholy of being cast aside by yet another establishment,” Jaskier tells him theatrically, as if he’s auditioning for something.
“Of course,” Eskel assures him, which is why they find themselves in the kitchen a few minutes later.
Jaskier hops up onto the breakfast bar Geralt had made them install for Ciri’s sake and swings his legs back and forth as if he’s her age until Eskel gets out the batch of leftover cookies, laughing when Jaskier immediately reaches for them with what can only be dubbed as grabby-hands.
“Woah, these are phenomenal! What do you put in them, essence of unicorn?” Jaskier asks, his words a little muffled by the cookie in his mouth.
“We stick to the more acquirable vanilla essence, actually,” Eskel corrects, taking a bite of one the cookies too, only because he feels awkward just standing around watching someone else eat.
“Huh, didn’t take you for a strictly vanilla kind of guy,” Jaskier says casually, and Eskel promptly chokes on a chocolate chip.
He can see Jaskier nervously biting his lip as he recovers so, as smoothly as he can manage with a slightly croaky voice, he asks, “What kind of guy do you take me for then?”
Jaskier grins wider than should be humanly possible, leaning forwards so his elbows are resting on his knees and his chin is balanced on his palms. “You tell me.”
“Maybe another time, when I’m not afraid you’re going to collapse again at any moment,” Eskel practically mumbles, not sure where this spark of confidence is coming from but not exactly complaining because it’s actually pretty nice.
“Well, perhaps if you weren’t so handsome, I wouldn’t keep falling for you.” Jaskier has the audacity to wink, at which point Eskel gives up on the cookie altogether in fear of death by being flirted at whilst chewing.
Jaskier gasps before he can form a reply, apparently having caught sight of something behind him. “Look at that, it’s technically Valentine’s day! Oh, please tell me your shift ends earlier tomorrow? Or uh, today?”
Eskel blinks.
“Yeah, I’m here from noon to six, we never have the same people working the late shift both days for general health and safety reasons,” he replies, internally thanking whatever lucky stars he has for that calendar coincidence.
Jaskier looks about as excited as Eskel feels. “Well then, unless it’s a matter of life and death, you’d better cancel any plans you have after six!”
“Oh?” Eskel raises an eyebrow.
Apparently understanding that Eskel didn’t have any plans anyway, Jaskier smiles. “I’ll take that as your version of a yes.”
He slides off the breakfast bar with another blink and you miss it hiss of pain but straightens up before Eskel can question it, grinning. “So it’s a date! Well, I suppose it’s actually a time, but that doesn’t sound even nearly as romantic.”
“Both sound alright to me,” Eskel laughs.
“So you’re happy for it to be a date date?” Jaskier asks incredulously, but Eskel blames his tone on the fact that it’s nearly one am rather than someone who looks so adorable genuinely being surprised at anyone wanting to go on a date with him.
Either way, Eskel nods tentatively. “If that’s what you want?”
With the exact opposite energy, Jaskier nods so quickly that Eskel fears he’s going to give himself whiplash or something and grins again. “There is legitimately nothing I could possibly want more.”
Eskel snorts, gesturing to the other cookies to try and take the attention away from how warm his face is suddenly becoming. “You seemed pretty excited about those not long ago.”
Jaskier waves a hand dismissively. “Why settle for the creations when you have the handsome creator himself?”
Well, there’s no way he’s hiding the heat on his face anymore. Especially not after he meets Jaskier’s gaze and finds nothing but sincerity in his ridiculously bright eyes, not even the slightest hint of taunting at all.
“I should probably go,” Jaskier whispers eventually and if Eskel didn’t know better, he’d say he almost sounds sad.
A little thrown off, Eskel just nods. “Yeah, yeah, of course, it’s pretty late. Here, I’ll walk you out.”
Jaskier waits patiently enough as Eskel locks the kitchen up behind him and grabs his coat from the office, leading them both to the rear entrance and locking that door behind them too. It’s only once they’re outside that he realises Jaskier is only wearing a shirt and jeans which, no matter how inexplicably good he makes them look, aren’t exactly suited to travelling anywhere so late at night.
“Do you need a ride home or…?” Eskel offers.
But Jaskier just shakes his head. “No, I was headed to a friend’s place anyway, she doesn’t live far from here. Don’t worry, I won’t take up any more of your time right now. Though the same can’t be said for this evening.”
“I can’t wait,” Eskel admits honestly.
“Until six, my dear valentine!” Jaskier blows him a kiss before starting to walk away, practically sauntering into the darkness like he owns the night and turning a corner so not even the streetlights can keep him visible before Eskel remembers that he’s meant to keep breathing even when he’s by himself.
Maybe he’s finally found a reason to forgo cursing Cupid in favour of thanking him this year.

Summary: Sequel to watch the time go. A/B/O AU in which Obi-Wan doesn’t realize Anakin claiming Ahsoka as his kid also means that she’s now his child.
Obi-Wan was pacing. Anakin didn’t think his mate was even noticing it, marching from one end of the room to the other as he looked over the reports that had been sent in earlier, not even really reading them. He was nervous, agitated, and unfocused. Anakin watched as Obi-Wan rolled his shoulders and let out a low breath and then, as he had periodically the past hour already, he looked to the door before continuing.
He was definitely not aware of his behavior, unlike Anakin and just about every clone in the meeting room.
“Sir.”
Anakin looked away from Obi-Wan to see Rex standing in front of him. “General Kenobi, he is… stressed. It’s agitating the men.”
“I know,” Anakin sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “I’m sorry. Just, give him a while. He hasn’t noticed yet.”
Rex blinked once, then he looked at Anakin in what could only be described as utter disbelief.
“He hasn’t noticed yet,” he repeated flatly. “Forgive me, General, but what. How hasn’t he noticed?”
Anakin shrugged. “It doesn’t really happen at the temple, at least never to that extent. I know what to look out for though so it’s kind of obvious from the outside perspective but….”
Anakin trailed off and turned to Obi-Wan just in time to see him look, once more, at the door through which Ahsoka had disappeared just one hour ago.
Truth be told, Anakin didn’t want to be here either. He wanted to return to his nest together with his mate and child, but they needed to get this battle plan ready so that when the repairs on the ship were done, they could leave Coruscant behind quickly and rush to the aid of yet another planet in need of Republic support. Anakin could put his own needs aside for a moment because he was quite aware of what he wanted and could calm his nerves by reminding himself that Obi-Wan was right here and Ahsoka safe at the temple. For once in his life, Anakin knew precisely why he was stressed and Obi-Wan did not.
This reversal of their roles was weird and Anakin privately vowed to remember to tease Obi-Wan about it in the future.
“Sir, I don’t think we’re going to get anything productive out of this meeting if he keeps this up,” Rex commented. “Could you please just tell him?”
Anakin grinned mischievously. “Now where would be the fun in that?”
Rex sent him a deadpan look. The fellow Omega was just a little annoyed with their antics and Anakin couldn’t fault him for it. Watching Obi-Wan was disconcerting, but from his perspective, it was also kind of hilarious. All that talk about our Padawan and Obi-Wan had no idea what exactly had shifted in their dynamics since the last time Anakin had felt the need to build a proper nest. The feeling hadn’t subdued much since then, curse his hormones and curse the Order for caring enough about their members to keep them away from shady suppressants, but it still spiked from time to time.
“Sir, please,” Rex almost begged. Anakin had never actually seen any of his men beg. They were much too proud for that and Anakin liked to think he was good enough of a General that they never felt the need to, but could simply ask him for whatever they needed. “Cody looks just about ready to take the General’s head off and we can’t afford to lose Kote to being court-martialed, so please?”
Cody’s eyes were indeed twitching and Anakin saw two troopers behind him exchanging a few credits, pointing at Obi-Wan. The Beta Commander was definitely a little irked by Obi-Wan’s behavior. Rex was a little more relaxed, but in the past months he had put up with Ahsoka and Anakin being more content than before while Cody had to deal with a jittery Alpha. That definitely wasn’t a fair trade.
“Alright, alright,” Anakin finally gave in and stood up. “I’ll talk to him. It’s almost time for our night rotation anyway. Meeting adjourned and we continue tomorrow after we got our hours? The ship should be ready then too and we’ll likely have our new assignment as well.”
Rex let out a sigh of relief.
“Thank you, sir. It will be done.”
Obi-Wan, meanwhile, was so lost in his thoughts, he didn’t even notice it when Anakin approached him as all the officers left the room.
“Obi-Wan?”
Obi-Wan’s turned his head away from the entrance and looked Anakin in confusion.
“Anakin.” Obi-Wan slowly returned to reality. “Sorry, I was lost in thought. Has something happened?” He stopped to look around the empty room. “And where is everyone?”
“Lost in thought,” Anakin repeated and snorted. “That’s one thing to call it. We decided to talk more tomorrow.”
Obi-Wan crossed his arms and tilted his head in confusion before his eyes darted to the door, again. Anakin was kind of charmed by it all.
“Why?”
“Because of your inability to concentrate and your Commander’s want to throw you into the brig. Let’s go home.”
Anakin took his mate’s hand and led him out of the room. Normally, Obi-Wan would have protested more, asked more questions, but instead he was silent and, perhaps, a little more affectionate than he usually would be out in the open. He walked a lot closer to Anakin, let him hold his hand. They tried to show at least a bit of professionalism when they weren’t in their quarters, especially Obi-Wan wanted to uphold that image, whereas Anakin couldn’t care less, but it was clear that wasn’t going to happen right now.
The trip back to the temple had never seemed as long as it had now, and Anakin recalled that time he was sixteen and Obi-Wan had gotten so sick on a mission, he had been worried he would lose his Master. When they did finally reach their home, Obi-Wan already looked a little better, though he was still far from the serene and calm Jedi Master. The few Jedi they passed on their walk through the halls gave Obi-Wan a curious look, though not as much as they would have towards the beginning of the war. There were more and more Master and Padawan pairs whose bonds had strengthened. Seeing a Master who slightly more protective than usual and hovered over their charge wasn’t a regular thing yet, but once the war ended, if it ever did-
There would be change.
Soon they were standing in front of the training salles where Ahsoka was sparring viciously. She had grown so much already since her apprenticeship had started, Anakin had to stop himself from purring with pride. Obi-Wan too watched her with pride, but his eyes were tracking the course of her opponent’s blade a little too closely.
“Ahsoka’s safe,” Anakin reassured him, but Obi-Wan only looked at him in confusion. “Of course, she is,” he replied and yet his voice was a little deeper, a little closer to worry and anger than it should be.
“Right.” Anakin watched Ahsoka do another spin over the head of Barriss and victoriously land on her feet. Smiling, he called out to her. “Ahsoka! It’s time to go!”
His Padawan turned around to him, first happy when she spotted the two of them, but then quickly began scowling in disappointment.
“But I only just started training,” she replied, but marched over to them regardless after bowing to Barriss.
She wasn’t stomping her feet, but it certainly felt similar enough to it from a Jedi’s perspective. Obi-Wan, who would usually cite Anakin’s past misbehavior at him at this time, was silent once more, carefully tracking Ahsoka’s every movement, checking her for any visible injuries.
It was hilarious really.
“Where do we have to go? Have we got a new assignment?” Ahsoka asked him.
“Nope, just our rooms,” Anakin only replied.
Ahsoka shot him a look of disbelief, then turned to Obi-Wan to check if this was some dumb joke they were playing on her. However, as soon as Ahsoka stood next to Obi-Wan tough, she too realized there wasn’t something quite right with him. And yet she wasn’t given even a chance to say another word, as Obi-Wan apparently decided that enough was enough and simply grabbed her waist to throw her over his shoulder.
“Hey!” Ahsoka protested. “Obi-Wan! Let me down.”
“You’re too slow, little one,” Obi-Wan replied, his voice definitely more of a growl than his normal speaking voice.
She pulled a face and then, after she contemplated protesting again, came to the conclusion that life would be much easier and kinder on her if she just went along with Obi-Wan’s behavior and let herself be carried.
Thankfully, the walk to their rooms was a quite short one. Anakin opened the door and let Obi-Wan direct them towards the bedroom. He waited until Anakin had made himself comfortable, then he dumped Ahsoka on his lap and marched straight out of the door again.
“Okay, so what’s going on,” Ahsoka asked as soon as he had disappeared.
“I’d say his instincts finally caught up to him, little one,” Anakin laughed.
Gently, he pushed Ahsoka off his lap to fix his nest. Not that there was anything wrong with it per se, it was just not perfect either. It had been a while since he had slept here and not on a ship. He puffed the pillows and rearranged the blankets until they had taken the shape he preferred. He glanced at Ahsoka, waiting for her to add to the nest. He knew the Jedi didn’t usually do this communally, but this was how he had grown up and it brought him peace to stick to this habit. Ahsoka had gotten used to Anakin’s habit and by now made her own corner in his nest. Once they were done, they crawled under the largest blanket and let its weight lie comfortably upon them.
“So, when is he going to be back to normal?” Ahsoka asked.
Anakin snorted. “I think you can say normal goodbye for a while, but I think he’ll calm down a little soon.” Anakin quietly counted the days and, oh yeah, his math matched up. “His rut would have been around now normally.”
Ahsoka elbowed him in the side all while complaining. “Eewww, gross, gross, gross, I did not need to know that about my grandmaster, thank you.”
“It’s just biology, Ahsoka, honestly.”
“Gross biology,” she replied in the spirit of a teenager.
Obi-Wan returned soon after, announcing his arrival with the sound of doors opening and closing. When he entered the bedroom, he was carrying a mountain of snacks. To Anakin’s delight, his favorite sweets and fruits had been stacked in there as well. Anakin didn’t know how Obi-Wan had managed to even find all of those in such a short time, never mind during the war when some of the more exotic treats had become harder to import. Their kitchen was definitely empty for sure.
“I brought food,” Obi-Wan said, his voice suddenly tinted with confusion while he gave Anakin a treat.
“Thank you,” Anakin said simply and accepted.
Eagerly, Ahsoka grabbed a chocolate bar out of the pile, opened the wrapping and devoured it like a starved man in the desert. Anakin himself really wasn’t all that hungry, but this was less about being sated and more of giving Obi-Wan some much-needed comfort and calm. It wasn’t like Anakin didn’t appreciate his Alpha taking care of them. They just didn’t often indulge in the comforts that came with their designation, there was no time for it, but Anakin definitely enjoyed the sweet joy that came with Obi-Wan paying attention to him.
“Come here,” Anakin told Obi-Wan and threw back the blanket so he could join them.
Dutifully, his mate left the food on the nearby table, kicked off his shoes, handed Anakin his outer robes to incorporate into the nest, and climbed onto the bed. It really wasn’t a surprise he reached to Ahsoka first. Anakin had been near him the entire day, he knew nothing had happened to him, but Ahsoka had been out of his grasp and not only that, but sparring. Lightly he scented her neck, frowned in disapproval at the places where her tunics smelled like fire, nothing unusual for the aftermath of spars, but Obi-Wan still radiated disapproval. To distract his mate, Anakin gently tugged at Obi-Wans robes to get his attention. When he turned his face to him, a question in his expression, Anakin gave him a soft kiss, trying to emphasize that they were all here and safe and nobody was hurt and that everything was alright.
“I know,” Obi-Wan muttered back against Anakin’s lips and slipped his fingers beneath Anakin’s collar just so he could trace the mark there. “I know, I just-“
He sighed in frustration and dropped his head on Anakin’s shoulder.
“I really am alright, Obi-Wan,” Ahsoka too spoke up, concern coloring her voice. “I promise, nothing’s hurting. I’d tell you.”
Young as she was, and small still too, not yet taller than Anakin or Obi-Wan as Anakin knew she’d be someday. Ahsoka moved until she was curled up in-between the two of them. She had no qualms whatsoever in pushing Anakin down onto the bed until she could lie her head down on Anakin’s chest.
“We’re all good, Master,” Ahsoka said and with a yawn, closed her eyes. All that energy of before seemed to have left her. Anakin wasn’t going to protest. He could use a nap as well. Obi-Wan studied the two of them with keen eyes, before he too submitted to their demands. He laid down and pulled Ahsoka and Anakin so close that he could put his arm around the both of them. Anakin felt like he was breathing in the scent of warmth, home and safety and soon drifted off.
X
When Anakin woke, Obi-Wan was already staring at him. He didn’t look the slightest bit tired or drowsy, he must have been awake for a while then. He still hand moved his hand away from Anakin’s waist either. Glancing towards Ahsoka, Anakin saw that she at least was still sleeping soundly, her chest rising and sinking steadily.
“Why were we sleeping?” Obi-Wan whispered as to not wake Ahsoka. Then, after a pause in which he probably reevaluated all his earlier actions, “Why did I-“
Anakin couldn’t help but grin. “Do you want the long or the short answer?”
“Should I be afraid of the long answer?”
“No, not really, it just involved a lot more teasing than the short answer.”
Obi-Wan let out a long-suffering sigh. “Lay it on me.”
Taking pity on the other, Anakin decided he didn’t have to tease it all out of him. “You do remember that usually not just one half of a mated pair adopts a child?”
“Yes, obviously- oh. Oh, Force.” Obi-Wan pinched his nose. “I have to apologize to Cody. I must have been driving the poor man up the walls these last weeks.”
Anakin laughed quietly, careful not to shake Ahsoka awake. “I think he took it quite well, it’s not like he didn’t realize your paternal instincts were running haywire. I doubt there is a single trooper in your company who didn’t know.”
“So it was really only me, I’m not sure if that makes it better or worse.” Obi-Wan used his unoccupied hand to gently run his fingers over Ahsoka’s face markings. “We have a daughter then,” Obi-Wan summarized.
“Congratulations, she’s a Togruta,” Anakin joked, but quickly sobered up again.
This wasn’t what he had expected when he became a Jedi. Family and battles for what was right, yes, but not a war and a child whose survival depended on him.
“I’m terrified.” It was somehow difficult and easy at the same time to admit this. He didn’t want to speak of his fears, he should be better than that, stronger, but he also didn’t want, couldn’t, keep this a secret from Obi-Wan. They were out there fighting the war side by side for months, Ahsoka following their every step, what if his silence was the reason she was injured?
“What if she gets hurt on a mission? What if I lose her? There were so many close calls already.”
“We won’t lose her,” Obi-Wan said. He sounded a little pained. “Even just imagining it is rather counterproductive right now, but- she won’t die in this war. She has us and we’ll keep her safe.”
“But-“
“No buts,” Obi-Wan interrupted.
It occurred to Anakin that it really wasn’t fair that even now, with half his mind occupied with ensuring his mate and his child were safe, Obi-Wan could still think so rationally. It had to be that his head had cleared up a little with awareness trickling in.
“We’ll make it through it and then we’ll take a long vacation somewhere far away where I don’t have to share you two with anybody else and we can just stay like this for hours without any interruptions.”
“Careful, careful, your alpha is showing,” Anakin teased, though he couldn’t claim that the thought didn’t also sound wonderful to him.
They should go somewhere green and warm, untouched by the war and all the bloodshed.
“I am an alpha,” Obi-Wan said. “Yours in fact.”
Anakin let himself disappear in the cadence of Obi-Wan’s voice, that slightly possessive tone he had longed to hear for so long and Obi-Wan usually reigned in.
“Mine indeed,” Anakin repeated, liking the way the words lingered on his tongue as if he were saying them for the first time and there was no mark on their necks proclaiming it to the entire world.

The One Who Cared The Most
This is gonna be my long ass thoughts of Rang’s character so if you’re also invested to our pyscho baby fox buckle your seatbelt, be furious and cry with me.
From the beginning I already knew that Rang would be a goner because that’s what always happen to my favorite characters ha. But man they gave him such a beautiful character growth I was still caught off guard in the end even though the death flags were everywhere. I tried my best to ignore it hoping the writer is on her right mind but no. His character was written so well it will never be easy to let him go.
Rang was left by his mother to die and abandoned by his brother for romance. He spent hundreds of years alone, missing his brother, and being a puppet. It would’ve been better if yeon just killed him on their encounter I bet that is what he also wished for deep inside. In the beginning yeon can’t figure out how he changed so much from being a kid who cannot ignore an injured puppy to someone who is okay in killing anyone. Yeon cannot figure it out because he was dismissive of his feelings all those years but I as a viewer saw that he didn’t changed at all. It’s just that his brother didn’t pay attention. It was proven by the following episodes where we saw him rescued the puppy and go all soft to soo oh (black puppy huhu). Even in the spin off episodes we were given a glimpse of how lonely he was but still cared deep inside. He didn’t get much enough love and care, but he was able to share and give it to others especially to Yuri and Soo Oh. Just like yeon said “love is passed on in an uncanny way”. He was still a kid trapped in an adult’s body who was traumatized but tried to cover it up by troubling his brother who in reality he yearns to be with the most.
It became more painful when we started to see him finally become genuinely happy. He was freed from the contract and fixed his relationship with his brother. He was able to become and act like his true self. A person who is all smiles and only looks up at his brother. But as always, it didn’t last long. He was stabbed by the person he trusts the most and his brother was fixated on saving his lover. In episode 11 when they switched we even learned that he was convinced that the reason yeon chose jiah was because she didn’t cling to her family tragedy unlike him. How I wished yeon told him that his pain was justified because he did abandon him. It felt like he only started to care for rang when he had something to do with jiah urghh I’m so mad.
Now let’s jump to the last 2 episodes. It was such a painful watch. A very painful one. He finally got his brother back, has a kid to take care of, but got caught up in a mess again due to his brother’s romance. It was so sad to see yeon asked him to be the one to kill him, what yeon did was just add more trauma to rang. He knows himself he cannot do it but due to his love for his brother he was able to. His scream and sobs were so painful to see, the way he wiped his brother’s blood in his hand was too much for me to handle. Now to the last episode, I WAS COMPLETELY DEVASTATED AND I KNOW WE ALL ARE. He suffered alone for 600 years but got only to be happy for 6 months. He finally got his newfound family who takes care of him, who makes him laugh, who he eats meals with, who he watches tv with, who he walks on night outside with, who sends him off when he goes out and welcomes him back when he goes home. He already got it all and I bet even though they tried to make us believe that he still wanted to bring yeon back but we all know that he would’ve eventually moved on with the help of his new family.
Rang’s sacrifice was so unnecessary and I will be always frustrated with the way they made him go. The writer just showed that jiah and yeon’s romance was more important than rang’s happiness with his family. He wasn’t even able to say a proper goodbye to them. A final hug would’ve been more painful but I still wanted it. All he was able to do was leave them with a smile. Just like what yeon said he must have been scared being alone T.T but I know the sight of his family coming to him comforted him at least. Kim Bum’s acting was so brilliant there he got no lines but I knew what Rang wanted to say. That he is happy that there were people who truly cared for him and will cry for him. He is relieved that he will be at ease leaving them because he knew yuri and soo oh are in good hands with shinju. That although their time was short it was one of the best he had. “In my next life I hope I’ll meet you again as my family”. He even had their picture as his wallpaper oh god made the scene 1000x sadder.
Here comes the video message scene. It took me 3 days to gather my thoughts about it but it still hurts until now. The background music that was playing just made it worse. First I just want to talk about how his phone is full of photos of yuri, soo oh, and shinju he really wanted to cherish their moments together. His message to yeon oh god I still cry about it every time I think of it and when I see posts on it. The word “Hyeong” automatically echoes inside my mind. The way he tried to play it off and be cool about it but ended up a sobbing mess. I like how he said he will not apologize for troubling his brother because he was the bigger jerk since it was true. What made it 10000x tragic was that Rang wasn’t ready to let go. He wanted to stay so much and experience the life he had always been dreaming off. He wanted to call yeon “hyeong” many times. He wanted to live so much. He didn’t want to give up at that moment (I will hate the writer forever with this). Seriously, I can’t even talk about it without crying because Rang deserves so much better. The smile he gave one last time was full of regret, sadness, fear, relief, and hope that they will meet again in his next life (someone give kim bum his oscar please). His character was used as a scapegoat to bring the leads their happy ending. I totally feel cheated by the writer on this one they almost made me believe in the first 30 mins of the last episode that they will spare him but nah.
To conclude, Lee Rang was such a beautifully written character and well executed by Kim Bum that it will stay with me for a long time. Regardless of the things he did wrong even though he was sometimes a jerk (which was justifiable) we all know that he was just yearning for his brother’s love. Rang, if only given the chance will love and care for others without reservation even if the ones, he loves the most will not return the same feeling in the same degree. His passing, though a cause of my gut wrenching sobs, was beautiful. I so wanted him to learn to embrace love again and I’m glad at least he died knowing that he did something meaningful. I’ll just take comfort to the idea that he died knowing that he was loved and that he, too, loved well.

Would it be possible to request for Oikawa where he has a crush on a Karasuno student and every time he tries to talk to them he becomes a blushing stuttering mess and he hates it because he's usually so confident? Something fluffy~ Gender neutral is fine but if you don't mind, can you make them more like "one of the boys"/tomboyish if possible? It said your requests are open, I hope I didn't misread and I hope this is okay!
So heyyy....umm I hope this is ok!
Pairing: Oikawa/Reader
Rating: T for language (one fbomb I think)

Practice games are just as important as matched games in Toru’s opinion and he takes each and every single one seriously.
Especially against Karasuno.
He isn’t going to let his guard down against them, not with that cocky smirk on Tobio’s face.
His tongue pokes out a bit as he steadies his arm for the perfect serve.
The game hasn’t started yet, it’s just warm ups but a few of the Karasuno players are watching him with rapt attention and he feels his confidence grow.
He throws the volleyball into the air, gets started on his run and then his hand comes down perfectly aimed to hit it just right and swoosh, it’s headed in a direct path to the opposite side of the net.
It bounces against the floor with a hard smack and then it pops back into the air before-
“STRAY!” He hears and then there’s someone standing there, just holding his serve ball like it didn’t bounce back up with incredible force and Toru blinks and gapes.
“Sorry about that!” he hears Nishinoya call out.
Then they just toss his serve ball back to the salty Karasuno middle blocker like it’s nothing. Like they didn’t just catch a serve rebound flying at top speed.
Toru feels his heart start pounding wildly in his chest as he watches you make your way around the edge of the court.
‘What is this feeling?’ he wonders to himself as the whistle blows and his attention is back on the game.
Aoba Johsai win all three games in straight sets, he feels a bit smug despite the exhaustion settling in.
Now that he doesn’t have to focus on the matches his eyes wander around the gym trying to get another glimpse of you.
Unfortunately word has gotten out about the star setter of Seijoh being at Karasuno campus and the fangirls are already vying for his attention.
He pastes on his fake smile and shows them the proper gratitude for their support.
He is grateful after all, he just also feels a little disappointed.

The next time he sees you it’s completely on accident again, he’s taking Takeru to the movies and you’re standing at the counter alone with an armload of popcorn, a large soda, and some candy too.
The more he sees you the more intrigued he becomes.
You’re just-you’re nothing like what he’s used to.
“Uncle Toru!” Takeru says, grabbing his attention and also making you turn your head.
“What is it, Takeru?” he says, trying to pay attention but his gaze drifts back to you without permission.
“Why are you staring at them? You’re acting like a creep!”
‘What?” he yelps, as your gaze moves over him almost absently and then to Takeru with a small smile.
This kid.
“Takeru, we’re going to be playing the quiet game indefinitely if you don’t stop embarrassing me in front of people,” he says through gritted teeth.
You don’t hear the words come out of his mouth but the expression tells you all you need to know and you chuckle before turning back to your date with yourself.
He watches as you head into the theater with the latest action movie banner over it.
He’s not opposed to action movies but he had kind of hoped you’d have chosen the animated film that he’d planned to see with Takeru.
“Toru, can we watch that instead?” he asks, pointing to where you disappeared into the theater.
One thing he’ll say for his nephew, Takeru knows how to take advantage of a situation.
Don’t be ridiculous, Takeru. Your mother would kill me…” he says, guiding the kid toward the snack counter instead of the ticket booth.
“I’m almost twelve now!” he says, looking up at Toru with an unflattering gaze.
“Pfft...I’m not stupid, kid.”
“Yeah...sure,” he says, a painfully sarcastic eye roll tacked on for good measure.
“Why are you so mean to me? I’m your favorite uncle!”
“You’re literally my only uncle…”
Toru pouts but nobody gives him a second glance.

“Great King?” Hinata asks, and Toru meeps before putting a hand over Shortie's mouth.
“Shh…” he says, and Shoyo looks at him with confusion etched on his face.
“Why are you here? Did you come to spy on us?” Hinata asked with wide eyes. Maybe Kageyama wasn’t the only one who was nervous about their upcoming match.
“I’m just here looking for some-for a friend,” he says, eyes darting around the gym through the small window.
“Oh, okay...who is it? Maybe I can help you find them!” Shortie says, with that same passionate enthusiasm that he springs up with on the court.
Toru assesses the odds of Hinata picking up a clue that maybe he and you aren’t exactly friends but then he remembers Tobio usually keeps control of their shared brain cell and spills his guts.
“Do you remember the practice match we had?”
“Yea the one last week? “
“That’s the one...I was warming up and I hit my spike,”
“Yeah and it was like SWOOOSH and POW against the court and even Nishinoya senpai couldn’t pick it up...it was soo awesome,” Hinata says, stars sparkling in his eyes.
Toru felt the old familiar pride in himself start to grow.
“Yes, exactly. Well it bounced and then someone caught it...do you remember who that was?”
“Oooh yeah, I know them. But they’re not here, they work part time at that place with the big neon sign out front. The one across from the coach's store!”
Toru says a quiet thank you for the blind gullibility of an idiot and nods. “Thank you, Shortie. I might just consider this worthy of an I owe you.”
“Oh it’s no problem but...why don’t you just text them?” he asks, tilting his head to the side.
“You’re right, I should do that. Well this has been fun but I’m leaving now...you should work on those receives. Catching them with your face might be fun to watch but it’s not going to put the ball where it needs to go.”
Before Hinata can go off he turns to leave with a wide grin.
The walk there isn’t long and he checks out the familiar sight of Sakanoshita and then turns his head.
“Hmm…” he says to himself. It’s not exactly what he’d expected but Shrimpy is a lot of things, but capable of lying isn’t one of them.
He slips in the door looking around as if he’s interested in what’s on the shelves though a glimpse of you is really what he’s waiting for.
Toru keeps glancing over to the counter while he distractedly pretends to browse.
In fact he is so focused on keeping an eye out for you that he nearly jumps out of his skin when you say, “Can I help you with anything?” from right behind him.
He’s not sure whether his heart is pounding so fast in his chest because of the literal fear that is tingling under his skin or the fact that you are unexpectedly standing so close.
He backs away into the shelf, wincing a bit when a few items fall onto the floor.
Blood rushes to his ears and neck as he forces himself to turn around and start to pick things up.
“No I-I’m fine,” he says, hiding his awkwardness as best he can given the floor has yet to open up and swallow him whole.
“Y’know, you’re nothing like I expected…” you say, chuckling to yourself a bit as you try to help with the misplaced items.
“You-you know who I am?” he says in a voice that sounds almost nothing like himself. Toru Oikawa isn’t some meek, mild mannered blubbering mess. He’s confident in himself and his skills both on and off the court.
But then he sees your eyes, and the tiny smile dancing on your lips and he’s somehow a whole new person.
“Of course. I might not follow Volleyball as closely as some but I’m pretty sure there are slugs living under rocks that know who you are,” you chuckle, replacing the last item onto the shelf before standing back up to your full height.
“Yes...well I am the best setter in Miyagi,” he says, trying to find his confidence again.
“One of, sure,” you say and there’s a sly smirk on your lips as you think of Tobio-kun.
(cue unamused emoji face)
“Oh, and I suppose you think Tobio is better?” he says, feeling vaguely jealous and angry all at once.
“I wouldn’t really know,” you say, shrugging a bit. “Honestly I just know that he credits you a lot for teaching him everything he knows and that seems like such a waste if you can’t appreciate it properly.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well you’re rivals, I get that...but also another way to look at it is not only are you one of the best-”
“THE best.”
“Fine, even if you’re THE BEST setter in Japan, or even all of the world...you have a legacy now. It’s not just your own skill that you can depend on but that of your junior…” you say with a soft shrug. “Honestly that feels just as important to me.”
Toru blinks at you a few times before you offer a short wave goodbye and make your way back toward the counter.
He decides it will be best to get out of there as soon as possible.
When he rounds the corner, Toru presses back against the cool brick of the building behind him and lets his head fall back.
This feeling...it’s new. It’s intense...it’s fuck-its unlike anything he’s ever felt before.
Is he actually...flattered?
Impressed?
Is he...is he in love?
No, that’s silly.
Toru Oikawa doesn’t do love.
He plays at it, he feeds it to his fans but he doesn’t actually feel it.
The wind whips at his face and he turns away from it. He’s not sure how just yet but somehow this is Tobio’s fault...he just knows it.
Tumblr media
Once he confronts his feelings, it takes a while but he comes back to you.
Over and over he shows up where you are and tries his best to make polite conversation despite the nervous flutters in his stomach or the way heat seems to blossom in his cheeks anytime you playfully tease him about anything.
If you’re standing too close there’s at least a thirty percent chance he’s going to knock into something and either he’ll have a bruise or you’ll be picking stuff up off the floor all over again.
It settles a bit the more you get to know one another but he can still be surprisingly adorable with pink cheeks and shaky words when you do something to catch him off guard.
If only the tabloids could see him now.
You shoot hoops together, he cooks for you on occasion, and you share your rougher edges with him.
Yet he doesn’t walk away...
It’s actually kind of nice to feel like you can be yourself with him.
You expect him to be a lot more of a skeeze but he’s patient and to be honest he moves at an even slower pace than you would. You give it time though, because he might be thinking he’s doing it for you or he might just be taking the slow road for himself and you’re in no rush.
If he’s willing to stay by your side, then being patient is the easiest part.

Summary: Alfie takes you out to a fancy business event but he needs it to be more than that.
Alfie Solomons X Reader
One | Two
“An auction?”
“An auction, yeah.”
You eye him, he looks a little tenser than usual. There’s a shake of your head before your voice is heard in the room again.
“Mr. Solomons, I-”
“It’s Alfie, luv, Alfie.”
His voice is stern, it’s not the first time he gave you a warning about this.
“...’m not your uncle..” his eyes move around the place, there’s flour again but it’s on his sleeves this time instead of his sleeves.
No he isn’t -  he’s certainly much better than your uncle.
The room is well lit with the afternoon light, the smell of his bread and rum roam around the wooden corners of the office. You see your assistant flinch in the corner, he’s scared. Everyone is when it comes to Alfie.
Everyone but you.
This is the third time that week he’s come around strolling, talking to the boys around before visiting you in the office. You’ve settled on an agreement, you practically made him sign it after threatening him with breaking the already existing deal he had with your uncle.
You have him on the ropes.
There’s no reason for him to come around so often, you and the people in the office know that but here he is again with flour on his sleeves, he knows about your sweet tooth from the time you spent around your uncle.
You don’t dismiss him as quickly as you would’ve wanted - he knows you have work to do, he can see the pile of papers waiting to be attended but he doesn’t leave, his gaze doesn’t shy away from yours as you look straight at him.
“Alfie, I-”
“C’mon, luv, I brought ye’ the treats, yeah?” he speaks, so he thinks of it as an exchange.
You sigh. “Where is it, then?”
He beams with a smile, one you’ve rarely seen since it brings out the little kid in him, his eyes look young, he looks like he’s never been to war or even lied once.
It breaks down your walls.
It’s hard to keep up with him - the old man turns out to be even more promising with each layer he sheds in front of you. He’s never been vulnerable, he’s not shown you anything more than an ounce of emotion either but that’s a lot for a man like him, you know.
He sits down as your assistant exchanges the date and the hour for the event, you walk around the place while Ollie puts the bread on your table. Alfie wraps the best one in his napkin and hands it to you, you welcome it with a small thank you. It’s automatic at this point as your bodies move in sync.
Ollie smiles.
You devour the bread before you while sorting through some papers, he watches you move and he doesn’t look away, he doesn’t want to miss one second of you with your guard down.
He’s seen the way you work, the way you relentlessly tried to catch up with the work your uncle did- but you’re already so much better than him.
He doesn’t know if it’s your elegance and the way you’ve been raised or your education but you feel like a piece of diamond in a coal mine.
He knows the way men work around Camden: rude, sexist and just obnoxious. He wants to congratulate you in some way for putting up with them, and once more for doing so well on your own.
It’s why he’s brought you so many baked goods.
You smile at him for the treat, it’s your way of thanking him. He keeps you up on your feet -  unlike all the other men you’ve encountered, he’s not as full of himself, he makes you feel calm.
He nods at you, a smirk tugging at his lips as you put the papers back in their place, he knows you’re about to speak.
“Do you have your eyes on something?”
You, he wants to say but he settles on a less evoking answer.
“Nah’..” he rubs his hands together. “..just an excuse to take the pretty lass out..” he whispers.
He thinks you don’t hear it, the tone of his voice is way too low for you to comprehend what he was saying but he knows you’ve picked up on the words from the way a pink hue spreads on your cheeks.
You don’t look as threatening like this, your heavy gaze is long gone as you remind him of a small kid: innocent and pure. You make him feel younger by years, he’s aware of the altering of his mood when you’re around but he doesn’t think much of it, he tries not to.
You don’t give him a response, settling on your chair as you register the words. The words are pleasant, you know he doesn’t just say things to say them. The silence is broken by you a couple of minutes after.
“So, tomorrow?”
He smiles while standing up, he looks less tense now.
“Yea, at nine.” you nod after he’s done speaking.
“Okay, then.” you don’t say anything else while you stand up, your hands immediately move your dress to straighten it, the assistants are long gone.
“I’ll pick ya’ up.”
···············
“He’s coming’?”
“I hope he is.” you sigh, staring at the reflection in front of you of a new person, she seems nice - you think.
Your hair is pinned up, a little lower than its usual place it gives your face a nice frame. You haven’t done much make-up even though the lady next to you who also happens to be close friend, Natalia, tried to cake up your face but you’ve managed to stop her.
It’s been too long since you had a chance to get all dolled up.
From running to places to get jobs done to tolerating how thick the men you did business were, you’ve forgotten to take time out for yourself so it feels a little foreign at first, but welcomed regardless.
“Don’t stare at me like that!” you warn her, she adores you and you can see the glint of amusement in her eyes.
“I’m not doing anything, sweetheart..”
Natalia speaks, her accent peaks through and you enjoy it, she’s been a dear friend during your time here after all.  “..if anyone’s making eyes at you, I bet it will be that dashing date of yours..” she laughs, it’s mocking but not in a hurtful like, it’s like sibling banter so you give her a smile.
“It’s not a date..”
But isn’t it?
She hums, she’s ogling your dainty form so you hit her on the arm playfully, earning a small chuckle before the doorbell rings. Your cheeks feel hot, this is the dreaded part.
You enjoy his company, his smell that roams around the workplace long after he’s gone and his flirtatious comments you mostly choose to ignore but you feel nervous - it feels like you’ve never done this before.
Natalia opens the door, she giggles as Alfie makes a remark about the new lady in front of him but you’re nowhere in sight, not yet. One last look at yourself and you walk down the stairs hurriedly, meeting the ruggedly handsome man’s eyes.
He doesn’t say anything at first as you get your coat, your movements are not slow but it feels like the world moves a little slower as he looks at you from head to toe - you really were the jewel your uncle told Alfie you were.
“Fuckin’ hell.”
You don’t say anything to him as Natalia giggles at his reaction, you kiss her cheeks goodbye before closing the door, she knows you’ll be in late.
He takes you in once you’re closer, it feels like his eyes are burning holes through your body but he’s just staring, a little too intensely. When his eyes are done drinking the sight before him, he gives you a smile - the one you so dearly love to see before offering his arm to you like a proper gentlemen.
His beard is trimmed, hair shorter than it was a day ago as you take in his vanilla smell, he smells less like rum today. Your arm wraps around his, he seems taller somehow. His suit is well-fitted, you can feel his pride swelling up as you eye him while standing close, he walks you to the car.
“Ya’ look beautiful, doll.” he breathes out once you’re in the car and a comfortable silence washes over you as you thank him with a smile.
“Not so bad yourself, Alfie.” you say, you almost catch a glimpse of the reddened cheeks under the night lights.
You focus on the road as he speaks about the pieces and the people who will be there. Most of them knew your uncle so there’ll be no commotion - or so you think.
“...there’s that fuckin’ piece, yeah, ‘s magnificent..” he speaks about a still life painting and you hate that you’re amazed, of course he appreciates art.
He mumbles something to the driver but you don’t pay attention, your gaze is focused on the road. It’s been too long for you to treat this like a normal occasion, you ignore the thud in your heart when his eyes meet yours as he escorts you out of the car, you take his arm again.
The high ceiling has a golden edge to it, chandeliers hanging from the distance as your eyes travel along the columns of marble arches, there’s flowers everywhere at the entrance. You recognise the artist-you’ve read about him in the books you had in the school library and the amazement in your eyes doesn’t go unnoticed by him as you both walk inside where the auction is going to be held.
There are no rows of seats like the usual way, instead there are small rectangle tables with name tags on them, it looks expensive to say the least. All the decor is a mixture between marble and gold, your eyes travel along the glistened surface of the tables while you let out a sigh, it’s one of amazement. Your hands remain at his side until he pulls back a chair for you and you give him a smile, soon he’s sitting in front of you with his charming smile-he looks too good in this lighting, you think.
You try not to get lost in him, even though some noises seem to fade out in your mind when he speaks. You give him another smile as the auction starts, he keeps making remarks about the people around and also tells you who they are and what they do, they’re all high class.
“Oh..” you breathe out when the next piece comes out, you can feel his breath on your face as he whispers something about the old posh lady who won’t stop going for the antique ceramics.
You raise your pedal and Alfie eyes you, it’s the painting he told you about as far as you can tell and the glisten in his eyes jus confirms it which makes you even more eager to get the piece.
“It is as beautiful as you said, Alfie..” you breathe out while the announcer takes your number down to give you the piece in exchange of some serious cash afterwards. Alfie looks rather stunned but he speaks up fast enough.
“Nothin’ compared to ye’, though.” he speaks, there’s even more blush than you put on your cheeks when the heat rises to your face- he knows how to catch you off-guard.
You shake your head, staring at your fingers as you speak, he watches you close enough for you smell his vanilla scent all around you. “You’re comparing me to paintings?” a chuckle escapes your lips, it lights a fire in his eyes.
“Just as picturesque if ye’ ask me, doll.” he likes the way you respond to his words like this, you’re not as scary now that he’s not doing business with you.
He returns his gaze to the next piece, a vase one of the older ladies clearly has her eyes on. She raises the pedal each time there’s a new bet for it and you watch as Alfie raises his pedal, there’s a look of surprise on the lady’s face as he chuckles and whispers to you. “Watch this..” he raises his pedal once again, anger written on the old lady’s face as she keeps raising her pedal, Alfie follows her with a chuckle, it’s a game two can play.
It was gonna be a long night, you thought as you shook your head.
