The ocean laid almost still, only soft and gentle waves blew over the water, causing it to ripple and lap at the wooden hull of his mighty ship. His gaze turned towards the horizon, watching as the moon reflected and glitter on the surface.
There was a soft slosh from his nearly empty bottle of rum as he took another swig, the burning as it went down starting a fire in his veins and being the only thing shielding him from the cold and salty breeze.
It was dark, all lights extinguished. His crew and his first mate were slumbering peacefully beneath deck, all rocked to sleep by the sea.
A feeling of melancholy washed over him as a sigh rolled off his lips. He knew his heart belonged to the sea, but he couldn't help the pressing loneliness in his chest on nights like these, wishing he had a fair lady to love.
Maybe then he'd consider coming home now and then.
He loved the ocean dearly, but she couldn't dry his tears and fill his arms as a woman of his own could.
He shook off the thought, taking a breath and focusing on the peaceful sway of his ship, looking forward to another day of wearing his Tricorn. Stolen, of course, although earned. Perhaps not by the accords of the Captain he'd snagged it from, but by his loyal crew.
Although Leon was a pirate, he wasn't heartless. He'd been through every terrible storm and ruthless attack with these men, and they respected him as their Captain.
There was no mutiny, no plans of overthrowing him, simply because he hadn't given them a reason to.
He was often called the Robin Hood of the seven seas; taking from the rich and cocky and giving it to the less fortunate. Of course he still plundered purely for the fun of it, but only other pirates.
They knew to avoid him, especially if they were the rowdy kind that took from the poor.
Because, above all, he wasn't just the greatest pirate Captain since Anne Bonny but a harbinger of justice that could both lend a gentle hand to those in need and strike fear into the hearts of anyone who had crossed him or his morals.
He was pulled out of his self pity by a distressed sound that cut through the silence of the night like a freshly sharpened cutlass. His brows pulled together as his eyes searched for the source of this noise.
Leon was on high alert, he wouldn't be surprised if rival pirates were using distress calls as bait for an ambush. Setting down the empty bottle of dark rum, he went over to the other side of his ship, facing the sandy shore.
And, as if the gods wanted him to see, he spotted a woman desperately clinging onto a large rock in the water. She was perfectly illuminated by the moonlight, even as she sobbed and struggled, she looked ethereal.
Leon sprung into action and climbed down the rope ladder at the side of his ship into a row boat.
What he hadn't noticed in his hurry, however, was the faint glow of a lantern being lit and a dark figure watching him carefully from atop his ship.
"Hold on, I'm coming for you!" He said loudly, rowing with his entire might as he saw the woman slipping.
"I-.. I can't hold on much longer, please help me!" She wept, seemingly trying to dig her nails into the algae covered boulder as best she could. Seeing her in such distress made his heart ache.
He didn't want to imagine what the outcome would be if he hadn't spotted her. With heaving breaths and a pull in the muscles of his arms, he rowed closer and closer, seeing her more clearly now.
She was quite beautiful, with her wet hair clinging to her skin and her tears glittering on her cheeks.
His boat bumped into the rock as he jumped up and held out his hand for her to grasp onto.
"Here. Just take my hand, I'll help you." Leon heaved, trying to steady the wooden vessel.
You reached for him, tightly clinging to his arm as he reeled you in like a fisherman would his catch of the day.
How ironic, you thought, having to stop yourself from smirking.
Your tail swished in the water, concealed by its darkness, as you made an effort to keep up your act.
"Thank you. Gods, you saved my life. I just wanted to bathe but the current ripped me away and I couldn't-" You babbled through sobs and wails.
"Calm down, alright? I've got you. You're safe." He spoke softly, much softer than you'd anticipated.
His huge yet gentle hands were steadied on your upper arms as you tightly gripped the edge of the boat.
"I'll help you into the boat." He breathed, now very aware of your bare skin. Your eyes widened slightly and your grip tightened.
"I- no, no, I... I'm so exhausted... I just need a break.." you tried to assure him with a half hearted smile.
"Oh, yes, of course." He chuckled awkwardly, sitting back down but still keeping a hand on you, just in case.
Your eyes glid over his form. His broad shoulders and bulging arms with a strong chest. Not to mention the mix of soft and sharp features and those beautiful blue eyes.
They reminded you of home. The deep, silent and peaceful parts of the ocean.
Lucky you; your dinner looked extra delicious today. Your mouth watered at the mere thought of sinking your teeth into his flesh and taking a bite.
It was quiet except for the waves crashing onto the rocks and the small ripples caused by you sloshing agaisnt the wood of his boat. You gazed upon eachother, a scene bathed in the fairest of moonlights, as your shared curiosity took over.
His hand slowly migrated to gentle hold your face as his thumb softly, but not without a hesitant twitch in his fingertips, wiped away at your tears.
Tears that shimmered like diamonds and the most notorious treasures of the seas. Leon was mesmerized, almost captivated, by your presence.
Something was pulling him in, something so deceiving, that he let himself slowly slip into your spell.
"A girl like you shouldn't be out alone past dusk." Leon broke the tense silence with quiet words as he brushed some of the hair clinging to your forehead out of your face. Your lips turned up into a soft smile, and Leon could feel his heart pound at your beauty.
"A girl like me?" You asked playfully, trailing you hand from the wooden edge to gently grasp at his arm. He thought for a moment.
"A girl so... beautiful. So sweet. So soft." His words were merely above a whisper and you could see his chest falling and rising just a little faster than before.
His pupils almost swallowed up the entirety of his pretty blues, making you mourn the mirroring image of your home.
"You flatter me." You replied with a soft chuckle, your other hand rising up to plant itself against his chest. He instinctively leaned forwards, his warm breath tickling your face.
There was a hint of sadness in your chest and it was getting harder to play the part. It seemed so easy to fall for those sandy locks and ocean eyes.
The line was awfully thin and you'd be damned if you crossed it.
"Tell me, what's your name?" You asked innocently, fiddling with the strings of his shirt.
"Leon." He swallowed thickly, his other hand itching to dip beneath the surface of the water, pull you out and whisk you away as his treasure, only for him to know the beauty that you hid beneath that darkness.
"Leon..." You tested his name on your tongue with a small smile and gazed up at him with such a bright sparkle in your eyes. Leon thought he was about to choke on air.
You gently, but with a firm hand, pulled him closer to you, your lips just a hairs breadth apart.
"What is it you desire, Leon?" You purred, your eyes darkening. Leon was hunched over, halfway to toppling into the water.
Right where you wanted him. His lips were parted and his cheeks were flushed, his pupils dilated so much you could spot yourself in them.
"You." He breathed out, leaning in far enough to brush your lips together.
You cracked a smile and brought your lips to his ear.
"How unfortunate." You whispered.
Those words made him snap back into reality, the hazy fog over his mind lifted enough to catch the sharp teeth as you smiled and the scattered, shimmering scales he'd missed before.
But it was no use.
The second he had realized, he was pulled under, ripped from his steady seat in the boat and plunged into dreadful darkness.
The air was knocked from his lungs and he struggled against your surprisingly strong hold on him as you dragged him deeper. Leon could see the moonlight fading, reaching out for it.
You, on the other hand, were euphoric. Ravenous for your meal.
Usually, you'd wait. Drown your prey and watch the life drain from their eyes, making them dull. But there was something about him that made you so impatient. So eager to get a taste.
Without another thought you sunk your teeth into his strong shoulder and reveled in the sweet taste of his flesh.
Leon screamed out in agony, but it was dulled and muffled by the water. Bubbles rose up as he desperately tried to get you off of him. His strength was exhausted, and the red tinting the water blurred his vision.
You hummed against his skin at the delightful taste of him. To your dismay, your feast was cut short by a loud noise, making you detach from Leon and flinch away.
Before you could get far, there was a searing pain in your tail, the salty waters now stained with your blood instead of his. A silvery harpoon was embedded in your tail, shooting hot spikes of agony up your spine.
You swam as fast as you could with the weapon in your fin, bullets whizzing past you as your form merged into the deep blue, vanishing before his eyes.
Leon pushed up to the surface with his uninjured arm before a hand plunged into the water and grasped him tightly before pulling him up to the surface.
He gasped for air and heaved in deep breaths as someone wrangled him into the boat.
The shirt on his left shoulder was ripped and stained with deep crimson as the rest of the wet fabric clung to his sculpted body. There were heavy pats on his back as he coughed up water, wincing at the excruciating pain in his shoulder.
"¡Joder! Are you alright, Capitán?" The frantic voice of his ever so loyal first mate, Luis Serra, rang in his ears, making him slack in relief.
"¡Mierda!. That beast got you good, huh?" He tried to lift the mood with a chuckle but Leon couldn't respond, his head spinning as he slowly took in his surroundings again.
Luis had a lit lantern with him, which got knocked over in his attempt to save Leon, his blunderbuss laid in the boat, smoke pluming from the barrel. A couple of harpoons were laid out as well, ones they'd usually use for fishing.
"Thank... Thank you.." Leon forced through heavy breaths as he held his bleeding shoulder.
"Always, Captain. Let's get you fixed up, eh, Sancho Panza?" Luis grinned helping Leon up onto the ship, who cracked a tired smirk at the friendly banter.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Leon was lost in thought as he sat on the edge of his sofa, a singular lantern illuminating his day cabin. He chewed on the inside of his cheek as he replayed the events in his mind.
With a heavy sigh he slumped back against the soft cushion, wincing when he adjusted his arm. There were so any feelings weighing down on him. Pure, hot fury. The urge to hunt you down, gut you and hang you out to dry.
He knew of your kind, of course he knew, the maneating maidens with the voice of a nightingale. Half fish, half woman. Sirens caused the worst shipwrecks, he'd heard the stories from the very few that were lucky enough to escape their clawed grasp.
There was shame. Ashamed that someone like him was so easily fooled by a pair of pretty eyes and a smile so sweet he could feel his teeth ache.
Was he just desperate and pathetic? Longing so deeply for a maiden of his own that he'd jumped at the first opportunity? Wasn't it honorable that he'd sprung into action to save a damsel in distress? He didn't know. He lived up to his reputation, that's for sure, but Leon couldn't bring himself to take the credit. He never could.
And then there was this bubbling curiosity. The urge to know more, to see you again. He didn't understand. You'd almost taken his life, yet there was not an ounce of fear for you in him. He was intrigued, he needed to see you again.
Whether it was to squeeze answers out of you or to get a smidge of that connection back.
He damn near broke his head in two that night after he'd retreated to bed, wondering if some of it was real. It felt real to him.
The way you looked at him, spoke to him, touched him. It all seemed so real and genuine. Were creatures like you even able to feel things of that sort? He didn't know.
What he did know was not only had you had his flesh between your sharp teeth, but his heart, too, it seemed.

The sun sparkled on the surface of the ocean as the Lone Rookie treaded along her path, splitting the waves.
Captain Kennedy and his crew were leisurely sailing across the calm sea, letting the tide guide them. He stood atop the quaterdeck, giving directions to the pirate that manned the wheel, knowing this part of the wide ocean like the back of his hand.
His first mate was keeping watch over the remaining crew, making sure their daily tasks were done as they should be.
Some were scrubbing the deck, others were covered in soot from keeping the cannons in good condition while the rest was busy hoisting the sails.
His coat looked pristine and elegant with the golden appliques sewn onto it. His Tricorn sat proudly atop his sandy locks adorned by a large, fluffy feather. His leather boots shone in the sun, same as his belt, that held his cutlass and blunderbuss.
His shoulder was still healing, the arm hanging close to his body instead of in the sleeve of the coat to minimize the strain.
It had been weeks since he almost met his end at your hands. Leon's mind had been occupied by thoughts of you since, wondering if he'd ever see you again.
There was shouting coming from the crow's nest, drawing his attention away from thoughts of you. They were coming up to a small formation of sharp rocks emerging from the water, but the lookout claimed to have seen something shimmering, bringing hope for it to be a lost treasure.
The Lone Rookie was carefully maneuvered closer to the boulders, being mindful so she wouldn't shatter to pieces against the rocks. But before anyone had the chance to inspect this mystery further, all heads turned in search of a soft melody that seemed to he carried by the wind.
Upon one summer's morning, I carefully did stray
Down by the Walls of Wapping, where I met a sailor gay
Conversion with a young lass, who seemed to be in pain
Saying William, when you go, I fear you'll never return again
Whispers and questions echoed across the deck as they searched for the source of this enchanting tune. The crew slowly moved in tandem, migrating towards the edge of the ship.
Leon's brows furrowed as he took out his spyglass and tried to spot something between the rocks against the blinding sun.
A shiver ran down his spine when he laid his eyes on none other than you, in all your beautiful, sparkling glory. Your tail shimmered in all colors, and your skin was glistening from the water.
You were going to be the demise of his ship if he didn't act now. With a quick movement his spyglass was attached to his belt once again.
"Everyone below deck. Now!" He yelled, seemingly breaking his men from their trance. They scattered like rats, obeying their Captain.
"Capitán-" Luis began but was swiftly cut off.
"You too. Now."
"Leon-"
"Go."
With hesitancy Luis, too, made his way below deck. Though he did stay close, just in case. How his Captain thought he was invincible made him want to shake his head.
Leon kept his eyes on you, a hand resting on his blunderbuss. He spotted one of his men, a gunner named Mike, out of the corner of his eye.
"Mike, get below deck. Now!" He yelled, not getting a reaction.
The gunner's arms hung slack by his side as he slowly stepped further towards that lovely melody, drawing him in.
My heart is pierced by Cupid
I disdain all glittering gold
There is nothing can console me
But my jolly sailor bold
The words glid easily off your tongue as you eyed your next meal before your gaze flitted to Leon for a moment. He locked eyes with you and you could faintly see him scowl which made the corners of your mouth twitch upwards in a mischievous smile.
Mike had now reached the edge and was leaning over, his pupils dilated as his eyes were trained on you and your beauty.
"Mike!" Leon rushed towards him, gripping his shoulders and trying to pry him away from what would be his certain death.
As if suddenly possessed by inhuman strength he shook his Captain off of him with ease and climbed down the rope ladder at the side of the ship.
"Goddammit." Leon cursed under his breath.
"Snap out of it! Don't listen to to her!" He tried to reason with his best gunner, but there was only so much he could do from atop the ship.
Leon watched as Mike eagerly descended into the water and swam your way.
You held out your hand in a tantalizing manner, watching as he reached you and desperately clawed his way up the rock.
His hair it hangs in ringlets, his eyes as black as coal
My happiness attend him wherever he may go
From Tower Hill to Blackwall, I'll wander, weep and moan
All for my jolly Sailor, until he sails home
Mike panted with a smile has he gazed upon you.
"The gods have heard me." He spoke brightly, steadying himself with one hand in the slippery rock and the other on your hip.
The gesture made you want to physically recoil. They usually never lived along enough to lay a hand on you. Still, you put on your best face and cupped his cheek, pulling him closer.
My heart is pierced by Cupid
I disdain all glittering gold
There is nothing can console me
But my jolly sailor bold
With the last, softly sung note you chuckled, a sound that could rival your singing. Mike drew closer, his breath on your face.
Your stomach twisted and turned when you remembered who else's warm breath you could feel on your face just a few moons ago. A much more pleasant and welcome sensation than from your next meal.
"You're all I've ever wanted." Mike spoke quietly, making you giggle and lean in to whisper in his ear.
"What a shame."
Your teeth dug into the side of his neck, puncturing his jugular as he let out a blood curdling scream and desperately clutched his neck.
In a calculated move, you slid down the rock with a tight grip on your prey and pulled him under, his blood staining your skin.
Leon's blood boiled as he watched one of his best men die in front of him. He wanted to gut you and parade around your corpse for everyone to see, but there was a sick and twisted jealousy in the pit of his stomach.
You had charmed and enchanted Mike just as you had him, but there was a part deep inside his heart that hoped he was special. You didn't put up a damsel on distress act for Mike, but you did for him. Surely all that effort must've meant something? He felt nauseous at his thoughts and returned his attention back to you.
You were smiling at him, your sharp teeth stained with blood before you dove under and splashed your fin, a noticeable scar from the harpoon sitting on the glittering skin.
He slammed his fists down on the wooden railing, a few splinters flying overboard. Luis emegered from below deck and hurried toward him.
"What happened?" He asked hurriedly. Leon stayed silent for a moment, sighing deeply, his eyes trained on the pool of red around the rocks.
"She got Mike." He spoke coldly, faintly hearing the gasps and sounds of sorrow from his crew.
His jaw clenched as he swiftly turned on his heel and waltzed towards his cabin, slamming the door shut behind him.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
The death laid heavy on him as he tried to find some solace at the bottom of yet another bottle of rum. Though not alone in his state of mourning,
Luis sat next to him, puffing a cigar. Not as his first mate, but as his friend.
"I have to find her." Leon spoke sternly, deep in his thoughts.
His hands were intertwined and tucked under his chin, most of his weight resting on his elbows.
"Won't be too hard. She keeps showing up where you are. Maybe she likes you." Luis grinned, tapping his cigar over the glass ashtray.
Leon hated how that speculation made his heart jump in his chest. He shouldn't feel like this, especially after you'd cruelly killed one of his best men. But he just couldn't help the giddy feeling in his stomach. He didn't physically react apart from a sharp glare that made Luis put his hands up in mock surrender, and the faintest of blushes dusted on his cheeks.
"You know what they say about the kiss of a Siren, eh?" Luis began with a mischievous smirk, taking a drag from the roll of tobacco. Leon leaned back into his chair with a tight-lipped sigh.
"What, that you'll 'control the mighty seas and command the storms'? All bullshit if you ask me." He muttered, a slight frown on his face.
"Whatever you say, Capitán." Luis blew a never plume of smoke with a faint smirk playing on his lips.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
You carefully poked your head out of the water and carefully watched the Lone Rookie, specifically the handsome Pirate Captain that you'd gotten a taste of.
You've been mesmerized by him ever since you met him that night. Those kind eyes, that gentle touch... could he really be a pirate? He was nothing like the dirty brutes that you had the displeasure of meeting.
Your curiosity is what urged you to follow his ship and observe him almost every day since you'd eaten one of his crew. You did feel a little bad about it afterward, guilt eating away at you as you twirled a button from his shirt between your fingers.
What we're you even going to do with it? Give it Leon as a peace offering? Now, that seemed unnecessarily cruel.
In your defense, you had to eat something. It wasn't your fault that you were cursed to be a Maneater.
Some were whiny and outright annoying while others disgusted you to the point where you'd just leave them drifting in the sea and went off to find another, their behavior ruining your appetite.
Gods, what were you thinking!? He probably hated you know. A fair outcome, you supposed. You wouldn't be very happy if someone ate one of your friends.
You dove back under, pondering your options. You knew you shouldn't, but something about him was so intriguing that it was impossible for you to stay away.
How ironic that the Siren seemed to be caught in a spell.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
The panic that arose in your chest as you struggle against the rough rope you'd managed to get tangled in was like nothing you'd felt before.
You were always so careful, kept your distance so no sailor would get their hands on you and do Gods know what.
You clawed and gnawed at the net, hoping your sharp teeth could cut you free. You were getting closer and closer to the surface, your eyes not having enough time to adjust as you were ripped from the deep.
Making yourself as small as possible, you waited in dreadful anticipation, saying goodbye to the ocean.
"This' a big one, Cap'n!" One of his men cackled, grunting as he continued to pull in the net.
Leon quirked a brow and stepped down from the quaterdeck, his belt rustling and his boots clacking against the wood as he walked. He waited patiently as his men reeled in their net, speculating about a big fish that would last them for weeks.
They plopped you down onto the deck unceremoniously, your tail hitting the floor with a thud as you pressed your back agaisn the railing, hoping to just disappear.
You hadn't even noticed Leon yet, to caught up in your fear to see how his eyes almost popped out of his head as his gaze landed on you.
"You." He breathed out, an unidentifiable mix of emotions in his tone.
Your head shot up, recognizing his voice, before it quickly fell again in shame, avoiding all eye contact with the handsome Captain. There were murmurs and whispers form the crew, some demanding to get revenge for their dearest friend and others that were interested in how much you'd go for on the fish market.
"What do we do with her, Capitán?" Luis asked from behind him, an uncharacteristically unsure tone to his usually so confident demeanor.
Leon's mind was void of all rational thoughts as he kept taking you in. How you cowered and kept your head down, seemingly afraid to even move a single muscle.
You were so confident in the water, seducing and luring men to their demise, but as soon as you hot caught on dry land all that cockiness evaporated and you looked more like a scared girl than a flesh-eating monster of the seas. He glanced around quickly before answering his first mate.
"Put her in that barrel." Leon gestures towards it haphazardly, continuing to bore holes into you with his look.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
That's how you ended up here. Cramped in a wooden barrel, sailors shooting you weird looks as you tried your best to sink as deep as you could, hoping to run from their judgmental gazes.
You'd find Leon staring at you from afar, striking under his gaze.
The protection of the sea was gone now. You were out of your element, and he was in his. You tried your best to behave, hoping they'd just get bored of you eventually.
Your first attempt at escaping and went as followed;
You nervously glanced around the deck, hoping you'd catch a moment where no eyes were on you. Leon seemed occupied looking at various maps with his first mate, while the crew was busy fulfilling their duties. You took your chance and took a breath to start singing, hoping you'd get them to dump you overboard so you could swim for it.
Before even a single not left your throat, a large hand was slapped over your mouth, muffling any sounds you would've made. Leon stood above you, his stature completely blocking off the sun.
"Don't even think about it. One of my men was enough." He said lowly, fueling the fire of guilt in your heart. You tried your best to ignore how his touch sent a prickly feeling down your spine.
You'd crossed the line miles ago, and you were swimming straight for the Bermuda triangle.
The sparkling moonlight on the ripple of the sea brought you no solace as you stared at the deep blue with longing, wishing you were back in your home.
You'd been on the Lone Rookie for about a week. Leon insisted on not letting you starve, to the dismay of some of his men, so they fed a part of their daily catches to you.
It wasn't human flesh, but enough to keep you going. Although you were around people all day, you hadn't felt more lonely. The disgusted expressions and whispered insults started to wear on you.
You were here only because you couldn't resist a couple of blue eyes and sandy hair that reminded you of the bottom of the ocean.
The door of the Captain's cabin opened and Leon stepped out with a lantern in hand, walking towards you.
Your heart was starting to beat faster but you still wouldn't meet his eyes. He placed the light on the railing next to you and leaned against it, staying quiet. You could tell he wanted to look at you, maybe even talk to you, but he held himself back.
The button in your hand seemed to almost burn your skin as you grasped it tighter. This was your chance at mercy and freedom.
"I'm... I'm sorry about your friend." You muttered quietly, the water in the barrel splashing gently as you turned your body to face Leon.
He was slightly stunned at your apology, maybe that you spoke at all, yet he didn't reply.
You bit your tongue, not knowing whether saying any more would be a good idea. You wordlessly lifted your hand out of the water and presented the button to him.
A soft crease formed between his brows as he eyes the button.
".. What's this?" He asked quietly.
You swallowed and raised your hand higher.
"From your friend." Your voice was merely above a whisper.
Hid jaw slacked slightly before he let his head fall forwards and let out a soft huff.
"Thank you." He replied softly as he took the button and squeezed it tightly, holding his hand to his chest.
There was a beat of silence before all your self-control left you, and you couldn't stop the words that spilled out of your mouth.
"I just couldn't stay away from you. That's what got me into this whole mess." You sighed, resting your head against the rim of the barrel.
Leon's head snapped towards you, your words igniting fire in his heart.
"You're just so... so.. different. I didn't actually think anyone would come to save me that night. I mean, I wasn't actually in trouble, but it was nice, still. You're nice. Not like all the other pirates I've met. They're rough and rude and.. you're not. I just can't stay away."
You laid your heart out for him. His heart was about to jump out of his chest, and his cheeks were dusted in a deep pink as he processed your confession.
He was speechless, his brain trying to come up with an answer.
You, on the other hand, were tugging at your hair, anxiously waiting for a reply. He could reject you, and you'd finally be able to move on, but as long as the option of him reciprocating was there, so were you.
Leon swallowed thickly, the way the moonlight was shining down one you once again not making it easier for him to finally find his words.
"I can't stay away either..." he confessed quietly.
"I know it sounds silly considering that's your whole deal, but... It felt real to me. Even if you bit me, even if you killed my best gunner, I..." he chuckled, running a hand through his hair and looking up at the stars.
"I've never... felt like that before. Never thought love was in the cards for me. You changed that." He spoke softly, gently guiding your head to look at him.
It was the first time you'd actually met his eye for days and it felt like your heart was going to melt right out of your chest. You were just as stunned by his words as he was by yours.
"It was real." You replied eagerly, lifting yourself out of the barrel to be closer to him.
"You remind me of my home. Your eyes are like the sea when she's calm and welcoming and your hair is like the sand at the bottom of the ocean, where all sorts of treasures can be found." You rambled breathlessly, the proximity of him making the air hard to breathe
. Leon was breathing heavily just as you were before he helped support you by placing a steady hand on your lower back.
"I just... I'm sorry for biting you, but I had to get a taste." Your face felt hot and your chest was rising and falling faster than normal.
His gentle touch was setting all of your nerves on fire, spiraling them into a hot frenzy.
"What if... what if you get a taste without drawing blood?" He asked in a quiet and breathy voice, a smirk tugging at his lips.
You nodded quickly, grasping onto him wherever you could.
With your confirmation, his strong arm wrapped around your back and he lifted you out of the barrel and onto the railing, holding you tightly, before finally pressing a kiss to your lips
. The desperation and passion in the kiss made you melt against him, a satisfied hum escaping your lips. Leon smiled into the kiss, teasingly squeezing your waist, making you giggle.
You gently held his face, the image of the both of you like that from a painting. You pulled away from each other for air, chests heaving, and your lips slightly puffy.
"I want to keep you forever." He muttered, pressing his forehead to yours.
You chuckled breathlessly, playing with the hair at his nape.
"I'm sorry I can't stay. But I belong out there," you nodded your head in the direction of the sea, "and you belong here." You spoke with a soft smile, placing a peck on his lips.
He made a soft displeased noise.
"Here." you untangled an iridescent shell from your hair and placed it into his palm, closing his hand and bringing it to your lips to press a kiss to his knuckles.
"That way, I'm always with you." His expression softened.
"Thank you."
Leon stuck his hand into his pocket and pulled out a small golden anchor charm, one he'd gotten on one of his first raids and kept as a lucky charm.
"Now, I'm always with you, too." He attached it to the lock of hair you'd taken the shell from, pushing a few strands out of your face with a smile.
"Will you promise me something?" Leon asked quietly, stroking his thumb over your cheekbone.
You hummed softly, leaning into his touch.
"Promise me you'll always sing for me."
You smiled softly and pulled him a little closer.
"I promise. I'll only sing for you." You whispered, gently bumping your nose against his, making him smile.
You pulled him for a last kiss, one he happily indulged, before loosening your grip on him.
Letting yourself fall back from the railing, you elegantly dove into the water, Leon's eyes glued to the shimmering scales of your tail.
You blew him a kiss before diving deep into your home with a heavy heart. It was a bittersweet parting, no doubt, but the trinkets you'd exchanged with your lover would ease the ache.
With a sad smile Leon watched you disappear before retreating for the night. The only thing he'd have to explain in the morning was how you'd escaped and where he got the shimmering shell that was pinned to his coat.
When he heard a soft comforting melody that night, he smiled to himself, keeping your gift close to his heart.
From then on, you were never far. Always circling around the Lone Rookie, keeping an eye on not only Leon but his crew.
The kiss of a Siren might not have given Leon the power to command the sea, it did, however, give him the benefit of a hauntingly beautiful complicit that was more than happy to feed on his enemies.

Do you have any pricefield headcannons?
A bunch!
A: They have a bunch of nicknames for each other that need a lot of context to understand. Chloe will affectionately call Max "Anne Bonny" and then not elaborate.
B: They have no idea when they started dating because they never officially asked each other out. They just started acting like a couple, and it wasn't until they were at the alter did they go "Wait...when did we become a couple??? Holy shit I forgot to officially ask her out."
C: Chloe carries around photo's Max has taken in her wallet. She makes sure to show them to everyone to give Max more exposure.
D: Max can't watch "Blade Runner" anymore without getting emotional. Chloe knows why, but it's still emotionally hard for her to see Max get so upset about something that she's so disconnected from.
E: Their favorite type of affectionate is hand holding.
F: Max made an entire scrapbook dedicated to her relationship with Chloe. It's full of photo's from all the places they've gone together over the years.
G: Chloe and Max only sleep well if they're in bed together. Being in each other's presence is very grounding after everything they've been through.
H: Max paints Chloe's nails for her.
I: Chloe gave Max her first tattoo. It was the blue butterfly tattoo on her wrist. (Yes. The one from the comics!)
J: As they get older, they slowly but surely shift from Max being Chloe's impulse control to Chloe being Max's impulse control. At 18, it was Max telling Chloe not to jump out of a tree. At 48, it was Chloe telling Max not to try and climb a tree to get a better angle of a squirrel.

The Massive Aggression of Calico Jack, redux
Several kind souls have complained brought it to my attention that my failure to use cut tags is, in fact, not optimal. I don't have any good reason that I don't use cuts - mostly I'm just throwing these thoughts out here so they don't endlessly rattle around my brain. Frankly, I'm endlessly astonished anyone but me can be arsed to bother wading through them at all. So, after a truly epic tantrum thoughtful consideration, I've decided to edit my longer posts to add cuts. If you've already read them, (may endless blessings rain down upon you) there's no new content (vile lies and calumny. I'm going to take this opportunity to fix errors and add a line here or there, but nothing major). Just making it more scroll-friendly. You'll know it when you see the word "redux" in the title. So without further ado...
I’ve been trying for a while to put my finger on exactly what it is about Our Flag Means Death's Calico Jack that makes me want to crawl out of my skin and smother him to death with my own abandoned ecdysis.
I mean, I normally love me a spurned admirer/cock-blocking ex. Romantic comedies have their beats, and there’s obviously no serious danger the love interest will end up with anyone other than their intended, so I may as well sit back and enjoy the machinations. After all, the course of true love never did run smooth, and these bitches are here to rough some shit up for sure. I also love Will Arnett. Hands down favorite recurring character on 30 Rock. The second best Batman after TAS (fight me). I can even cheerfully bear his Reese’s commercials if I must bear commercials at all.
Real-life Calico Jack? One of my v. favorite pirates. He wore floral-printed cotton from India as a fuck you to the British tax man. He had an affair with Anne Bonny and offered to purchase her divorce when her husband found out. The two ran away together into piracy when Bonny’s husband refused to quit her and had her whipped for her infidelity. Mary Read was part of Jack and Anne’s crew, and possibly their lover. We love a hopeless romantic, possibly polyamorous king.
So what is it about OFMD Calico Jack that makes him so acutely punchable?
I’ve rewatched the episode several times (oh my v. dears, I really hope this write-up is worth it. I am SO BRAVE to subject myself to this), and I think I’ve finally got it. It’s not just that he’s a loud, vulgar, hectoring, drunken jackass of a bird-murderer. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I have as little patience for his brand of mindless destruction and violence-for-violence-sake as Stede does, but that’s not all.  It’s that he’s also a master of passive aggression.
Jack does the little whisper-y “Sorry! Sorry!” when Stede wants to know what’s with all the cannon fire, but immediately starts grinning like an unrepentant varlet as soon as he drops his hands.
Tumblr media
And then accepts Stede’s introductory handshake with clear derision.
Tumblr media
When Stede says he wasn’t expecting guests and there’s only two settings at brekkie, Jack doesn’t wait for Stede to sort things out, and he’s already lowering himself into Stede’s chair by the time Stede invites him to take his spot. He then purposefully keeps steering the conversation to topics that exclude Stede from participating, and cuts Stede short when he tries to reign the conversation back.
Tumblr media
He insinuates Stede is less of a pirate for being “store bought”
He refuses to get Stede’s name right, even when corrected. Twice.
Tumblr media
And is just SO insincere when calling him back.
And, just, the whole pissing contest scene.
But so what? We’ve had other passive aggressive assholes on the show; Badminton with his cracks about Stede’s tiny dick ship, the French captain’s slurs, Gabriel simpering about Jeff the Accountant’s dining manners. I’m not shedding any tears for their respective fates, but none of them made me want to crawl through the screen and sew all their face holes shut. Because Jack isn’t just passive-aggressive (and aggressive-aggressive), he might just be the most savvy reader-of-rooms we see on the show, and purposefully and systematically leverages his passive aggression to manipulate the actions of those around him for the purpose of making Ed and Stede betray their better selves and make them do the work of driving a wedge between themselves.   That was a lot in one sentence.  Let me break it down.
Jack uses passive aggression to achieve one of four goals: to nettle, to undermine, (seemingly paradoxically) to reinforce connections, or to coerce. And, if he can manage to achieve different goals for more than one target with the same attack? So much the better. And he’s frankly just astonishingly good at doing so. Like, I’d admire him for it if it didn’t also make me want to make him swallow all of his own teeth.
The basic gameplan goes thusly (this is not a strictly chronological list, a lot of these tactics take place concurrently and recurrently): Stede is the primary target, so Jack nettles him with passive aggressive comments, which puts him on the back foot and undermines his self-confidence. He reinforces his relationship with Ed in ways that excludes Stede and undermines Stede’s relationship with Ed and Ed’s relationship with Stede. Jack uses coercive tactics with Ed and the crew, which undermines Stede’s relationships with them, isolating and othering Stede, which further tanks his mood, which leads him to self-isolate. When Stede eventually lashes out at Ed for falling for Jack’s bullshit, Ed has no idea what’s got Stede so out-of-sorts; Jack has so carefully lead Ed to making the choices that have alienated Stede that they seem like they were Ed’s ideas in the first place. And if Ed has made the choices to do these things, then they are clearly just a reflection of who he is, which, if Stede is lashing out against them, then Stede is rejecting him. Wedge set and match.
So let’s look at the specifics.
Jack’s interactions with Ed are like a masterclass in neurolinguistic programming for evil. First, he plys Ed with booze from the very start. Just look at the bottle in this shot from right after they blow up the dresser drawer.
Tumblr media
That bottle or rum is over half gone, and the sky in the background is the peachy-pink of sunrise. This isn’t the bottle Jack had with him in his dinghy; that one he drained and then threw in the air and tried to shoot before coming aboard the Revenge. Which means that they’ve consumed over half the bottle between just the two of them in a very short amount of time.   Alcohol, of course, is a social lubricant - the physical warmth it produces mimicking the “warm, fuzzy” feeling of true comradery, and, more importantly, decoupling the decision-making process from inhibition (that is to say, Ed isn’t necessarily doing anything he absolutely wouldn’t otherwise do, but he might otherwise think twice).
But it’s more insidious than just having a few drinks with an old friend. Jack specifically gamifies the consumption of alcohol to reinforce the coupling of the feeling of inebriation with the comradery engendered by teamwork and excitement of success in order to encourage Ed to drink more than he necessarily otherwise would. Ed confirms to Stede during his apology that the idea to use the drawers of the armoire for target practice came from Jack, and we saw that a bullseye meant that Jack had to take a drink, but Ed didn’t. Presumably, there would have been some consequence for a “miss”, and it seems likely that it would be Ed has to take a drink and not Jack. In this way, Jack is able to exert a measure of control over how much Ed is drinking (by missing on purpose) while making it look like the responsibility lies with Ed and his skill as a thrower. This pattern of sneakily controlling Ed’s actions while making it seem like Ed is the one who made or is responsible for the decision will pop up again and again during their interactions.
After the apologies for waking Stede, Jack steps into the space where Ed is gesticulating to make himself readily available to be touched, reenforcing the bond between them, but letting Ed be the one to instigate the touching.
At brekkie, he pours rum into Ed’s teacup without asking or being asked while Ed’s attention is diverted by getting food.
Tumblr media
Jack’s collaring of the conversation does not just function as a means of making Stede feel excluded, he’s also refreshing and reinforcing the bonds he and Ed forged under adversity. Talking over Stede also demonstrates that what he has to say is more important than anything Stede might contribute.
Note that just before Jack cut him off, Stede had referred to Ed as Blackbeard (“Blackbeard and I met on a ship”). This may be innocently explained away; if you meet a person from a facet of a close friend’s life with which you do not intersect, you might refer to said friend by their given name instead of a nickname that the other person might not know, for the sake of common frame of reference. But this is the opposite of that - referring to a friend by a nickname instead of the given name that you both presumably know. That suggests to me that the seed of the Ed/Blackbeard dichotomy has already been planted in Stede’s mind by the morning’s shenanigans. And when Jack invites Stede back into participating in the conversation by talking about something he knows Stede would find upsetting (the wanton cruelty of Ed purposefully trapping people to be burned alive, couched in what sounds like sincere admiration for his friend’s piratical prowess), Jack has picked up on that distinction and is leaning into it HARD. He WANTS Stede to see Ed as a collection of behaviors he finds palatable, and Blackbeard as a collection of behaviors he finds repulsive, and then coerce Ed into performing those “Blackbeard behaviors” in order to coerce Stede to drive the wedge by rejecting him. Fucking diabolical.
When Jack is calling Stede a “big girl,” or “store-bought,” or purposefully getting his name wrong, he’s not just throwing barbs that play on Stede’s insecurities (and with such harrowing precision, too; calling on the effeminacy for which he was tormented as a child, his body image issues that we’ve also seen him struggle with under the tender mercies of Badminton - both brain-ghost and original flavor - and the authenticity of his claim to piracy, which we’ve seen him confess that he fears he’s ill-qualified to claim to Jim, Oluande, and Ed. I mean, triple bullseye for this fucking guy). He’s also using these public declarations to undermine Stede’s authority in front of his crew, and establish himself as the real authority on things like piracy and masculinity. He further reinforces this idea by withholding the story of how he saved Ed’s life under the guise of false modesty; people never want something more than when they’re told they can’t have it. And what they’re being told they can’t have is the story of how Jack was so amazing that he even managed to save the life of the coolest, most legendary pirate they know. This withholding primes the crew to think even more highly of Jack and hang on his every word.
This puts Jack into a position where he can pressure the crew into things that sound fun at first blush (like diving off the yardarm or having a snowball fight, but with coconuts), but end up hurting more than anything. Of course, within this dynamic, no one wants to admit they aren’t having a good time, or don’t want to do it; to do so would be tantamount to admitting you are less of a man or not a real pirate. So when Stede refuses to participate, or admits his discomfort or disgust with the proceedings, he’s doing Jack’s work for him, and further alienating himself, and solidifying the roles Jack had put into place where Jack is the fun, cool guy, and Stede is the killjoy that no one should listen to.
Stede unwittingly plays right into Jack’s design when he tries to stand up for himself and wrest back a modicum of respect before things get too far out of hand. He’s well-versed in the world of passive aggression, and sees what Jack is doing. He also knows that you can’t call it out because passive aggression comes with a built in cover of plausible deniability gaslighting. So instead, he tries to push back with a little passive aggression of his own, suggesting that a real pirate has a ship and a crew. Sadly, Stede is not nearly so adroit at wielding passive aggression as Jack is. Jack uses the story (and we know that Izzy sent him, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole mutiny thing is just a story; I could even easily read that slight hesitation after Stede asks his question as Jack deciding on what would be the most effective cover story, instead of hesitancy to admit to something shameful) of his crew’s mutiny to casually re-sow the idea of mutiny on the Revenge. It’s played for comedy when the crew starts talking about how they almost mutinied on Stede and probably will again, but you can’t tell me this hasn’t been a major concern for Stede ever since the first episode. So Jack’s not only got the crew trying to buoy his spirits by assuring him that his crew mutinying on his doesn’t mean he’s a bad person; it’s just something that happens! He’s also got them low-key committing to a future mutiny WITHIN EARSHOT OF STEDE.
Additionally, while Stede is well-steeped in the ways of passive aggression, his crew and Ed are not. They are not particularly sophisticated at identifying passive aggression on its own merits as opposed to the reaction it provokes, which can make it look like they don’t care when it’s being leveraged against Stede, undermining his ability to trust they will look out for him. Stede stoically putting up with Jack’s jibes makes them even more difficult to identify as hurtful. Jack’s (fake) emotional reaction to Stede’s sally might make him look momentarily weak, but allows Ed and the crew to unequivocally identify who is in the wrong and react accordingly. By positioning himself as a victim, he villainizes Stede, further undermining Stede’s authority, and placing him in a position where he owes Jack recompense. Thus, Jack is able to manipulate Stede into the trap of Dead Man’s Cove and make it look like it was Stede’s own idea. I mean, the Xanatos Speed Chess of it all.
What’s heartbreaking to me is how Jack’s wedge-driving and othering of Stede is working so well that at this point we start to hear it from other sources. As they approach the island and Stede suggests going for a swim or taking a nature walk, Ed is the one who tells him, “I think with this crowd, I think they want something a little more…” Not Jack would want something more exciting, this crowd. Jack’s exclusionary rhetoric out of Ed’s mouth.
Which is exactly the time Jack decides to up the ante.
I want to take a minute to look at the immediate lead up to yardies, because I think it’s an excellent illustration of how Jack looks like a lumbering boor, but his actions are actually so carefully considered and nuanced. He runs up from behind Stede and Ed and throws his arms around them shouting “Yardies!” literally insinuating himself between them, which interrupts anything that was going on between them, puts them off balance, and focuses the attention on him. Then, when he says “Who’s up for yardies?” he makes eye-contact with Ed - the implicit social expectation being “You, Ed, are up for yardies.” When he turns to Stede, it is to literally laugh in his face. I mean, the absolute cheek.
Until this point, the crew of the Revenge have been passive participants in Jack’s hooliganry. They watched him perform whippies, and got whipped at without encouraging him to do so. They listened to his and Ed’s stories. But now Jack is cashing in on his established expertise of what real pirates do to coerce the crew into taking part in a dangerous stunt. It’s more of the “Blackbeard behavior” dichotomy he started sowing in Stede’s mind at brekkie, but now he’s extending it beyond Ed to the whole crew. He wants Stede to feel like he’s all alone in a sea of idiocy, but he wants him to come to the conclusion on his own by making it seem like Ed and the crew are doing things of which he would disapprove of their own accord.
Once we get to the island, we see the activities take a turn from the careless Jackass-ery of whippies and yardies to the abject cruelty of turtle vs. crab. There’s no saying that Jack organized the fight, but we do see the crew handing him various trinkets to be used in gambling on a winner, which certainly suggests he was the central figure in how the game was established. We also see that, though he has been presenting himself as a drunkard, there’s no bottle in his hand or around him in the sand. There is, however, one in Ed’s hand, who is directly to his side. I can easily see him handing it off so he could handle the gambling stakes, the real intention being to keep Ed readily supplied with booze.
Tumblr media
And then we have the pissing contest. Jack’s got Stede literally and metaphorically isolated, and now it’s time to really drive it all home. Every moment of their interaction is designed to drive Stede to distraction; the amount of derision he lays on the phrase “Your good, close buddy,” the insinuation that he and Ed are just alike, and then being as rude and crass as possible. And because he’s read the room - the intimate breakfast for two, Ed’s little touches and the way Stede smiles at them, the way they keep going off together for little chats - of course Jack’s just got to twist the knife and allude to his and Ed’s former sexual history. So now that he’s got Stede primed, it’s time to name the fear: “Maybe you don’t know him at all.”
At this point, Stede is left to wonder: does he? Blackbeard’s reputation preceded him, after all. And he’s been acting so differently since the appearance of one of his oldest friends. It’s not the violence qua violence, per se; Stede is by turns delighted and impressed by the violence he’s seen Ed and his crew employ in the heat of battle in the pursuit of piracy. It’s the cruel and senseless violence that Stede objects to, and that’s exactly the brand that Jack has been peddling, and which Ed has gone along with so enthusiastically. And it’s not JUST the violence; Ed apologizes for Jack when he recognizes Jack has crossed a line in a typically agro way (destroying Stede’s belongings, and insulting Stede to his face), but it never occurs to Stede that his insistence on persevering with quietly aggrieved dignity in the face of Jack’s slights would make it nigh impossible for Ed to identify that Jack has crossed all sorts of other lines, and Stede is hurting because of it. For Stede, it must be frustrating and mystifying why Ed keeps letting his friend get away with his passive aggressive bullshit. Doesn’t he care?
Is it any wonder that one more failure to notice how Jack has riled him, and one more act of coconut-flavored Jackass-ary is enough to break the dam, and for Stede to spill all that built-up hurt on Ed?  Is it any wonder that Ed is bewildered at where all this is coming from? I’ve talked before about Ed’s tendency to fawn on people, and how, as an emotional chameleon, he would have difficulty identifying when the motivation for his actions is self-directed or externally dictated. Jack has further confounded this distinction by manipulating scenarios to make it seem like participation in all the Jackass-ary he has instigated was voluntary instead of coerced. When Stede says “I don’t like who you are around  this guy” what he means is “I don’t like how this guy is able to manipulate you into acting on your very worst impulses”, but what Ed hears is “I don’t like you”. For who is he, if not the collection of behaviors he chooses to exhibit? And were those choices not entirely his to make? With the rift clearly established, if in its infancy, of course Jack is going to do everything he can to foster its growth. So again, he interrupts Stede, again implicitly signaling that Ed should pay attention to what he says and not Stede. By lobbing the coconut at Ed at that moment, he forestalls any possible clearing of the air between Ed and Stede, and causes Ed to literally turn his back on Stede, in the way Ed feels Stede has emotionally turned his back on him just moments earlier. Jack reinforces this idea of turning his back on Stede again moments later when he says “Don’t go!” and immediately turns Ed around by the shoulders.
I know that I’ve been laying it on a bit thick and prolly sound like the written embodiment of the red string conspiracy meme, but I’m about to get a whole lot worse, and I’m going to ask you to stick with me, oh my v. dears. I think Jack killed Karl on purpose.
I know, I know. It was an accident! He was flailing drunkenly! But was he?
Have we seen him take so much as a single drink since the cannon fire at the beginning of the episode? Even though he’d been drinking earlier, did he not have devastating precision and accuracy when he first demonstrated Whippies - shattering every glass, snapping the cards from the Swede’s fingers, and ball-tapping Ed without permanently maiming him or even splitting the leather of his pants? In fact, while nearly every other crew member on the deck has a bottle in hand, just like on the beach, Jack does not.
Tumblr media
Jack knows he has to get Ed off the ship before the British show up, but he can’t just say “Let’s ditch these losers” and expect Ed to agree, especially since he’s spent most of the day roping the crew into his schemes. The most effective way to get Ed to follow is if Jack is rejected for just being himself and doing what he does, just like Ed feels he was earlier by Stede. I think the original plan was to goad Olu into seriously hurting the Swede, the fallout of which would be recriminations that Jack made them do it, and Jack getting aggrieved that he was just trying to show this ungrateful lot how to have a good time, skulking off and leading Ed to follow him and reassure him that he’s really a good guy - how could he have known it would turn out like that? But when Buttons calls a halt to the proceedings and it looks like everyone is going to pack it in, Jack has to think fast. If HE maims a crew mate, that would be a bridge too far, painting him as the bad guy. But Karl? He’s just a bird. And if Jack can get a little revenge on the weird bird guy who made him change his plan, so much the better. AND, as people with far fewer auditory processing issues than I have pointed out, Jack mutters that he expected there to be more feathers. Could the evidence be any more damning?
Of course the whole ship turns on him, and then here’s Stede to order him off, explicitly rejecting him the way he metaphorically rejected Ed. But when even that isn’t enough to get Ed to follow him, Jack pulls out one last, desperate manipulation - the debt of life.
Jack’s tragic flaw is that he can’t turn it off. Once he and Ed are alone, he turns his passive aggressive assault on Ed, pressuring him into drinking the morning away by sarcastically saying he didn’t know he had an audience with the pope when Ed expresses disinterest, and, ultimately, giving up the game when he mentions with casual derision how he’d heard of Ed shaking up with Stede, and then deriding Ed for his failure to spot Jack’s machinations.
Too bad Jack didn’t know that the punishment for passive-aggressive fuckery on this show is death…

Hello, would you be able to post tips on how to start a pirate au? This is my first time making one.
【 Hi! My tip for any au (or any story, really) is simply research. It’s important to understand the dynamics and realism. So I put together some pirate knowledge for you! I’ll probably make more posts on this soon. I’m thinking pirate terms, ship terms, common weapons, things like that. If you’d be interested, let me know. Hope this helps, and good luck on your story (: 】
The Pirate Life
warnings: violence
↳ Drinks
⇝ portable drinking water was hard to come by so many ships carried an abundance of wine, beer, and rum
⇝ a famous mariner drink is grog (sugar-water, lime juice, and rum) which was known to prevent scurvy
⇝ another is bombo/bumboo (sugar-water, nutmeg, and rum) or rumfustian (water, raw eggs, sherry, gin, beer)
↳ Eye Patches
⇝ not only worn because someone lost an eye
⇝ worn to keep one eye adjusted to darkness
⇝ when fighting/raiding below deck they could switch the eye patch instead of waiting for vision to adjust
↳ Flags
⇝ not all pirate flags were black with a skull and crossbones
⇝ most pirate flags were plainly black or red (completely red flags were known as the most aggressive)
⇝ if there were designs, many adorned hourglasses to represent the inevitability of death
↳ Freetime
⇝ when not working, pirates often played cards or dice (although, gambling was against the rules on some ships), sang, danced, partied, etc.
⇝ stopping at ports was a fairly regular occurrence so they could take a break from the harsh sea to sell goods, repair the ship, and of course find women
↳ Life of Crime
⇝ sure, some people became pirates for the life of crime, but the overwhelming majority were simply sailors who abandoned their jobs due to horrendous working conditions
⇝ pirates were treated far better by their captains than navy men
⇝ there were even periods of time where pirating wasn’t illegal — governments would enlist pirates during wartime to plunder enemy ships. these pirates were labeled ‘privateers’ and legally allowed to operate under ‘letters of marque’ which basically made them military contractors
↳ Longevity
⇝ pirate careers were a few years long tops (even the famous blackbeard only lasted two years)
⇝ many were killed or injured especially because medical facilities were practically nonexistent
↳ Positions
⇝ well-run ships had a clear division of labor
⇝ positions included captain, quartermaster, boatswain, carpenter, cooper, gunner, navigator, etc.
⇝ the captain had absolute command during battle and chose where/when to go somewhere
⇝ the quartermaster oversaw ship operations and divided the loot
⇝ pirates were not as chaotic as media portrays — they were actually quite democratic
⇝ but the illusion of being brutal would be beneficial for plundering as the possibility of surrender was increased
⇝ most pirates were illiterate, but there were quite a few who actually came from higher social classes
↳ Raids
⇝ looting gold/silver was much less common than looting supplies (food, drink, candles, navigational tools, repairing equipment, medicine, etc.)
⇝ most pirates didn’t want to kill people — they would steal the goods and leave the crew (or let the crew join them) especially because the bounties weren’t usually worth it
↳ Rules
⇝ most pirate ships took their rules very seriously, with punishments being severe
⇝ common rules were against lying, stealing amongst themselves, fighting on board, gambling, etc.
⇝ walking the plank was not a common punishment (it actually rarely ever happened) — punishments were usually flogging, dunking, tying to the mast, hanging, marooning, or keelhauling
Famous Pirates to Check Out for Motivation: Stede Bonnet, Anne Bonny, Francis Drake, Calico Jack, William Kidd, Henry Morgan, Mary Read, Bartholomew Roberts, Edward Teach (Blackbeard)

Hey, so, assassins creed x Idols (Kpop?). From the comments of the other post I remember the band "Now United" where every member is from a different country, maybe it can be used as a concept for the band?, idk I'm just giving ideas but I really want to continue the idea of them as group bc I found it hilarious lmao.
I tried looking for the post where we talk about this but I can’t find it anymore TTATT
(Also, it’s kinda funny that I’m answering this ask now the same day I watched the last Hololive concert with my friend. What a coincidence lol)
So, first things first, since my idol era happened during the early 2000s with Jpop, I’m going to borrow the setup of Debut or Die for this one to make it feel more Kpop XD
First things first, we’ll set up what we need in the idol group:
Lead Vocalist
Sub Vocalist
Main Dancer
Lead Rapper
(there are other parts like “Face of the Group” or “Main Visual”… aka the most photogenic one, maybe even something like the group’s composer/lyricist if we want that)
Anyway, we’re focusing on those 4 because this is the formation for Desmond, Altaïr, Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton.
Okay, let’s be honest. We’re going to put Desmond in the lead vocalist part because it’s me XD
But, putting him as sub vocalist would be a random reference to the fact that Desmond’s voice actor, Nolan North, sang the sub vocalist part of Saint Row IV’s Opposite Attract singalong scene
youtube
(this also help show how high Nolan North can sing I guess?)
Also, also, Ratonhnhaké:ton has to be the lead vocalist. His voice actor, Noah Watts, has a 13+ min video showing why Ratonhnhaké:ton should be the lead vocalist.
Altaïr would be the main dancer because I like the idea of Ezio being the main rapper and Altaïr’s body build would make him a good dancer.
So our final setup would be
Ratonhnhaké:ton – Lead Vocalist and Maknae (the youngest by one year)
Desmond – Sub Vocalist and the reluctant leader
Altaïr – Main Dancer and maybe their dance coordinator?
Ezio – Lead Rapper and Face of the Group + Main Visual
Now, I think you asked what Edward’s part will be?
Normally I would say Edward can a retired idol turned into this group’s manager but let’s fuck with the timeline and make everyone around the same ages and turn this into…
ACB48
hehehehe
(for those wondering, this is a reference to one of the longest idol group in Japan, AKB48)
So Desmond’s group would be part of ACB48 together.
Other groups include:
A group composed of Edward, Arno, Evie and Jacob (fans jokingly calls them the Hundred Years War Group)
A group composed of Shao Jun, Arbaaz Mir, Nikolai Orelov and Aguilar de Nerha.
A group composed of Kassandra, Alexios, and the twins Eivor and Havi.
A group composed of Bayek, Aya and Basim.
(Modern Assassins will be assistants or managers. Other historical Assassins can have their own group: like maybe Malik and Federico with their own group??? An all girls group of Claudia, Mary Read, Anne Bonny (even if she's not really an Assassin), María, Rebekah and Roshan)
And, of course, one of their rival idol group is made of Haytham Kenway, Shay Cormac (who was once part of ACB48), Daniel Cross and Maria Thorpe. (The CEO of their company is Warren Vidic)
Since they’re all of similar ages (around late teens early to mid twenties), Edward and Haytham are brothers and Ratonhnhaké:ton is their half-brother. Whether they’re cousins with Ezio is up to you.

Tangled in my soul
My dearest, I long for you greatly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The feeling of dried blood on the tips of his fingers while he rubbed them together was distracting, he made the choice to focus on that instead of what had beed occupying his mind , but once the door slammed open he was brought back to where he was currently seated outside the office of LT. Williams, looking down, he took notice of the absence of blood anywhere near - for the time being he reminded himself - and that his fingertips was clean or well at least they looked like it.
After following the lieutenant into the small space he took notice of how his left leg seems to have gotten worst since last time, he didn't have time to think about it when the higher rankings man rasped out a cough and started speaking “ welcome back CPL. Barnes it's good to know that you've made it “ , despite the warm words the tone that was carrying them was not delivering the sane warmth, it was empty and monotoned like he just said those same words over and over until they lost the soul within them now only syllables rolling off onto the air.
“ S’good t’be back lieutenant but we both know y’aint bringing be here for all’at so get to it “ I ain't in no mood for formalities he thought but kept the last bit reserved in his mind , the older gave him a side eye from where he stood looking almost reliefed to get to the point, “ well aren't ya in a hurry , and here I was thinking you'd be happy to hear what I have for ya “ he spoke finally looking at him in the eyes before taking a seat the chair screeching lightly under his weight with how old it was .
“ the last time you ‘ had something for me ‘ -” he mimicked his tone not thinking it through earning a stern look before muttering an apology and continuing”- ya had me shipped off to a hell-made-hole almost freezing alongside my men, I feel i shouldn't be all'at optimistic with ya “ he finished and the cold started creeping up on him again, like the mere mention of it was enough to summon the winter.
“ nah don't you worry , it ain't an order I just thought ya’d like to know that you got promoted, congrats Sergeant “ well- that took a turn and not the one I was expecting he thought and although it was a ‘ promotion ‘ he felt the heaviness of the syllables tug at his shoulders but he smiled nonetheless “ well I sure wasn’t expecting that “ he spoke his forehead wrinkling with the rise of his eyebrows.
He ran, sprinted, head first from that tent into his own ,he needed to write to her , short tempered because that could have waited, lunching himself onto his seat he fished his pocket for what was sitting heavily in it since he got it , for what tugged at the strings of his heart with every second calling him oh so desperately.
He carefully unfolded the pages , he can't afford even a mere fold in his darling's very own dear words , the words that kept him from losing his sanity ever since he got drafted into this hell of a war
My dearest, james
I hope this letter finds you well and warm, it's been a while since I received anything from you so if you haven't lost your hands yet I better not find my mail box empty.
It's been really hectic here jamie, bonnie got a telegram a few days ago regarding the death of Daniel, sweet soft Daniel oh how cruel it was to watch it all down on her , so please for my sanity come back to me because I don't know what I'd do with myself if you didn't .
how's it been going? You back yet oh I hope you are, I hope you are nothing but warm and safe I really do , I know I can't keep the nightmares away , I'm no medic either so all I can do is sit and hope and pray for this big act of horror and terror to end so could finally come to me , to your ma , to your home.
I'd make you the warmest meals , hold you close and never let you go unless you are so sick of me , I'd bring you all the sweets that you love from mrs. Ann 's bakery, everything you my heart will ask for I'd kiss the pain awwy and stand guardian of your dreams at night but until then I'm sitting playing your laugh like a broken record so I'd never forget it , so I'd never forget you .
Not that I'd be able to even if I tried
Tell me more about it there, your fears, your nightmares and demons, I want to share your pain buck , your pain is my pain ever since you took your heart with you to the front lines and laid it vulnerable because that'd be the only explanation to my heartache.
I'm writing to you sitting on nails and daggers until I hear from you , Can't get my mind to do anything else, Can't worry or care about anything except you , so please once you can once you're safe write to me james write and make it long so long it's enough until the next one because getting enough of you was never and never will be something that I can manage to do .
Yours, truly and utterly yours
Y/n
He felt warm, the winter is no longer there and it's spring now , it's the only way there could be butterflies and he felt them all too well, he grabbed his pen Can't leave the pretty dame all worried now can we ?
My dearest, y/n
how much I'm wishing to hold ya right now, to melt your beautiful body with mine and to tangle our desperate souls with each other you can't even imagine sweetheart it's all that I think about everything pretty here is you and you are everything pretty.
I'm sorry I couldn't write to ya sooner it's been shitty awful and once I got back I got called into the lieutenant office, nothing that pretty head of yours needs to worry about ya officially are the girl of a sergeant
Sergeant Barner's got a ring , I'm still not planning on telling ya about the stuff in here - the bad ones at least which is the most of it - and I still want ya away from those terror speaking radios only music and laughing and everything good should get to those ears of your , and I don't want you biting those nails
I'm sorry about Daniel and bonnie , things like that really stop my heart love because what if it was me ? I don't want to leave knowing I would hurt you, that's your plan eh? To make me determined to come back to ya , well i gotta tell ya you don't need one sweetheart, I'm coming back and hearing your stop-all-of-the-wars laughter
Are you laughing enough doll? Are ya smiling the same way that I left ya to be? I hope to god you are because I can deal with nightmares and bombs and death but not with a world without your smile or laugh, you gotta guard your happiness sweetheart, for me, and don't let this war steal it or why the hell am I fighting for ?
How about food ? Ya eating well? And pancakes don't count sugar, please eat well I'm dying here not being able to check up on ya , to protect ya from All the guys I know were waiting for my departure to sneak up on ya n try n snatch ya , i know there's a lot cause I got the prettiest dame in Brooklyn, hell in the whole of New York.
Give em the cold shoulder sweets , be rude and bitchy - sorry but yeah give to em , men sometimes don't understand "no" steve got into enough fights about that for me to be burning here , speaking of the little rascal gemme a realistic check up on em please and give ma and Becca my dearest regards, keep each other save while I can't please.
I can't fit everything that I have to say to ya in a million letters but this 's all I can do for now , but don't hold back on me my darlin not one bit , send me anything 'n everything ya got happening there I'll be waiting for ya ' on needles n daggers ' .
yours faithfully sergeant James Barnes

very funny that people think Ed would choose "marry Jack/ fuck Izzy" you don't act like Jack does while pulling the hotties he's pulled unless you lay some Olympic pipe
oh man i want to agree with you so bad bc ed deserves to have fantastic sex (and he will, eventually, with stede, but he deserves it before that too) however for personal reasons i have a different headcanon re: cj’s performance in bed
also i don’t know enough abt the anne bonny situation to even begin to speculate how jack scored with her (personally my fingers are crossed that she turns out to be just as unhinged and chaotic neutral as jack) but the thing that we have to understand about ed and jack is that yes jack is an annoying douche but ed likes hanging out with him. i feel like a lot of this fandom always casts jack as like a shitty ex boyfriend or writes their relationship as primarily consisting of them hooking up but canonically we see ed having a GREAT time hanging out with ed!!! they’re fuckbuddies emphasis on buddies, the sex is literally secondary to their friendship (bc yes even tho ed says he has no friends and also cj says they’re not friends, by most people’s definition jack IS a friend, just a very shitty one)! fucking (or “buggering” lol) is something they do from time to time, but it is not the only thing they do. in their adult life they’ve probably hooked up every time they ran into each other but not until after they partied together all night.
anyway this ask was sent in response to this poll where MY question is “why are people voting for fuck izzy/marry stede/kill jack obviously ed would rather marry jack and kill izzy” bc like. Canonically. we know that ed has fucked jack. meanwhile there is zero evidence that ed and izzy have ever hooked up AND ALSO when izzy was horny for ed choking him ed looked visibly disgusted and afraid. izzy’s little cheek stroke and “there he is” made ed’s dick shrivel up and hide inside his pelvis. he is not picking fuck izzy.
one more thing tho, bc while in my head cj is only okay at sex, i will say one thing about him:
Tumblr media
people with penises don’t pee like ^this^ unless they’re intentionally trying to show off their dick. i cannot fathom any other reason for why jack is doing some avant-garde hands-free pissing strategy in this scene. the man is gripping that bamboo like he’s trying to commune with nature and his dick is just free-hanging in the breeze. he is putting his junk on Display and that is because he is confident in his package.
calico jack may or may not be good in bed but he definitely has a massive dong.

Global Justice
What is it: a reboot or re-imagining of Kim Possible (2002 - 07) that while it still carries over a lot of the signature witty dialogue-driven humor and self-awareness of the original series, will also balance it out with a new, darker espionage feel, genuine high stakes and compelling overarching storylines.
The premise for the series ultimately starts off as one thing intentionally and ends up becoming something entirely different without losing what it was the first time around.
Set in the fictional Middleton, Colorado, we at first follow high school cheerleader Kimberly Ann "Kim" Possible who despite being captain, is too cocky and over-confident for her own good and faces many of the same problems most teenagers go through. Only for literally everything in her life to change for good when on the eve of the school dance that she's in charge of putting together, Kim is kidnapped by both her rival Bonnie Rockwaller and three super-speed robots called the Bebes and is brought to a deadly femme fatale supervillain named Shego who has a special plan in mind for the dance. It's then that Kim is now forced to use all she's got including her skills to make it out of this fantastical scenario alive and stop Shego.
The thing is — she succeeds albeit in an unexpected way and just when everything seems to have ended, all six of them (Kim, Bonnie, the Bebes and Shego) are obtained by a top secret organization that Shego was once one of the best, if not the best agent before called you obviously guessed it, "Global Justice".
In order to make it out of this for their own different reasons, they each are forced to agree to become Global Justice agents, or rather a team as they all share more-than-similar martial arts and fighting skills.
While this puts them at complete odds with each other, they all turn out to be the best agents for all the jobs imaginable and prove to be an effective team while each of them deal with their own problems in their personal lives in having to balance out working for Global Justice.
Notes/Trivia/Details:
Tumblr media
• To start things off, Shego will be given an entirely new backstory that fits her this time around:
Her real name is believe it or not, Kim as well - Kim Verrick to be exact. She was once a highly intelligent and equally skilled police detective whose incredible skills out on the field caught the attention of Global Justice who made her an agent, Kim would be a top GJ agent that defeated over 500 villains and brought several criminals to justice.
Unfortunately things would take a turn for the absolute worse, after a mysterious "incident" in upper Middleton that will be left ambigious although specific characters know about it, it left Kim with green-plasma powers and colored-skin which would then lead her to having a face-heel turn and become a new and sinister villain who now goes by the name of Shego. Currently wanted in 11 countries and already has a large kill count, this leads her back to her hometown of Middleton to begin her first evil plot as a villain which would lead her to create or rather resurrect three old friends as the Bebes, make a deal with an obnoxious high school cheerleader who as it turns out will do anything to stay on top and order them to bring her a person that has grabbed her interest as said person is related to an important part of her plan - Kim Possible.
On a fun side note -
It also turns out that not only did she go to Middleton High School when she was a teen but also was the captain of the cheerleaders as well just like the other Kim is now.
Tumblr media
• The Bebes will also be given an entirely new backstory to fit their characters here:
Believe it or not, they were human before with the three of them being other top Global Justice agents of different origins - Nancy Ridley, a U.S. marine that was one of the bravest on the front, Judith Bennett, a U.S. soldier who led her squad into battle and Samantha "Sam" Kane, a firefighter who rescued several civilians and fellow firefighters single-handedly in a roaring building fire. All three of them would catch the attention of GJ who made them agents of theirs and while not quite on the same level as Kim (Shego), they were still some of the best agents even being in the top 10.
Unfortunately Nancy, Judith and Sam - who became close friends and allies - were killed in the same incident that gave Kim (Shego) her powers and once she went over to the other side, brought them back to life this time as identical robots she calls the Bebes and just like her, they've also had their own face-heel turns.
Tumblr media
• As I've said previously, "Global Justice" will have much more of a full-on espionage/super-spy feel to it along with an aesthetic inspired by and similar to Brad Bird's The Incredibles and even to a certain degree Captain America: The Winter Soldier only with way more color to it. Let's actually lean in to the James Bond influence that the original series' creators had when conceiving Kim Possible. It would not only be interesting but have the show actually stand out from the numerous crappy ones that are pumped out like a factory.
• I picture Christy Carlson Romano, Nicole Sullivan, Terry Kinney Silver and Kirsten Storms all reprise their roles as Kim, Shego, the Bebes and Bonnie while for certain flashback scenes will have Karen Strassman, Salli Richardson and Lydia Mackay as Nancy, Judith and Sam.
• As for the show handles its world-building, usually with most media like this - it's always hidden or in secret, they're separate/hidden worlds or they're government cover-ups etc. basically they're all kept in secret a la Harry Potter, Men In Black, Totally Spies, Martin Mystery, Percy Jackson, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, plenty of Disney shows that you can name off the top of your head.
That's not the case at all here with "Global Justice".
In "Global Justice", it's all out in the open for all to see with no hiding whatsoever but it's all happening in these places that the rest of the world pays absolutely no attention to. There's no hiding whatsoever, all the superheroes, supervillains and spies are out there for all to see but again it's in all of these numerous places in modern society where no one cares about in the slightest. All you have to do is just simply look down let's say an average alleyway and boom, you'll see a superhero fight. That's it, that's how it works.
Obviously this will be poked fun of by some of the characters but still.
Tumblr media
• A reoccurring thing is that Kim, Shego, the Bebes and Bonnie will all have their bumbling screw-up moments sprinkled throughout the whole series to show that they're far from perfect and are new to this - with Kim and Bonnie, it's because they're just starting out as agents and get too cocky for their own good and Shego and the Bebes, it's because A). they're just starting out as villains and B). they're just starting out as returning Global Justice agents.
• I picture this show having three seasons with 67 episodes total and on top of that, each season will be a "volume" like either a graphic novel or even the superhero show that fell from grace hard, NBC's Heroes.
Season 1 is Volume One: How To Stop A Green Woman
Season 2 is Volume Two: Operation Hellfire
Season 3 is Volume Three: The Heroes Among Us
Tumblr media
• To help add to the show's universe, a couple of scattered around references and easter eggs that are kinda sorta blink and you'll miss them will be made to the events of other media that heavily imply a shared universe and it would actually make sense in the context of the actual series because Global Justice is a top secret organization that's goal is to protect the world from any threats necessary so of course they'd collect and gather information on past events.
For example, a reference that's rather passing will be made to the 1936 event with the archeologist, the nazis and the Ark of the Covenant.
• Also, to help add to the show's setting, it will be heavily implied that the whole show takes place over the course of a single year and that year is 2025.
Tumblr media
• Lastly, there will be a few call-backs here and there to the original series. For example, this scene where Kim saves Ron.... will happen in "Global Justice" only this time it'll be Shego who saves Kim.

Black sails! Tell me about black sails!
alright alright (nearly spelled that altright 😆)!
Favorite character
gotta be flint. flint forever and ever. character of all time. just. i think what stands out to me is that he's a character with believable adult trauma. i feel like we are inundated with childhood trauma, and it's not that childhood trauma has no place or is meaningless, but please, for the love of god, adults can get fucked up too, and in different ways, and the consequences are different. i love how he carries his trauma and is just unapologetically fucked-up about it.
Second favorite character
anne bonny. just. i remember a historian friend going on about her at the time that the pirates of the caribbean movies were out, and i somehow remembered her and god i love her in this show. there's something so visceral about her. flint is all intellect and showmanship, she exists in the shadows for so long, doesn't speak much at all, and just, you know, murders people 🙈🙈🙈 as one does. also i think her actress is so good. (i still want to make an anne bonny doll because i love her costumes so much, but that's also the reason i haven't started, they look very elaborate)
Least favorite character
gotta be john silver. i watched two treasure islands since i saw black sails, the disney one and one the bbc made for tv, and i dislike him in that story too. mostly, i think because i already came out disliking him so much from black sails 😆 the writing and acting is excellent, i just want to push him off a cliff.
The character I’m most like
uh. i think i identify most with flint? but i'm not in any way starting a revolution, i just love how angry he is at the world. the characters in the show are all very smart, and cunning and they are survivalists. i think i'd be a spectator (and die a gruesome death at some point coz no one stays a spectator for long)
Favorite pairing
i love james mcgraw and thomas hamilton. i shipped them when i didn't know they were a canon pairing and then when they were canonised it was even better to see that they were written to be together. they are so instantly into each other, it's such a joy. i love shipping equals and i love how equal they are and how aware of that in each other. and how much they love each other. it drives me insane.
Least favorite pairing
woodes rogers and eleanor guthrie. eleanor is a bit of an acquired taste but i love her arc and she deserved so much better. she's so conflicted over who she is supposed to be and she makes many shitty choices and she's so good at alienating people and also i love her and she needed a partner who saw her so much better. woodes rogers is just awful.
Favorite moment
flint murdering hal gates. i've been meaning to tell you about this actually, because ahahaha if jason murdered the joker like that, i would fucking ascend 🙈🙈🙈 i love murder shown as a kind of intimacy and there a few instances that i know of that in fiction and i love that so dearly. but also the aftermath of that murder is so good. i think very often the murder is shown to be an end of itself and i'm not sure it always should be. so having an aftermath to is so great.
flint gets to experience so many consequences. i want to hug him.
Rating out of 10
i think for someone who is reluctant to watch television shows and was kindly persuaded to give this a go and stuck with it, it's absolutely a 10/10. i think it is peak television and made with so much love and thought. it has flaws and shortcomings but what doesn't.

We are so lucky to have the season 2 trailers and all this other food for our OFMD obsessed brains. My brain in particular has been going over the information we have and trying to work out the order of what will happen, because I literally cannot rest until I know. So, here’s what I predict!
Aftermath of season 1…
Stede and his marooned crew get picked up by Anne Bonny and Mary Reed. Taken to the Republic of Pirates. Meet ‘Susan’. Susan employee them on her boat with the Chinese Pirates…
Stede talks to various people about what happened. Just refers to him as Ed, so people like Anne and Mary don’t realise it’s Blackbeard he is talking about.
Discussion about how “Blackbeard/Ed will murder you”. Stede recognises he really hurt him. Sends the bottle.
Kraken era Ed
Ed still obsessing about Stede but trying to keep up the pretence of his Blackbeard persona. Targets Wedding ship. Gets the figurines and the first bunch of pearls. Collection of things that remind him of Stede in the Auxiliary wardrobe.
Ed gets injured.
Stede and crew ‘escape’ from the Chinese ship, moving from that ship to the Revenge. Arrive to find Ed is injured and ship wrecked!
Stede sitting with Ed while Ed injured, mirroring the first season. But the reunion doesn’t go well: head bump!
But Stede finds the figurines. Realises that Ed still loves him and sees through all his protestations.
Together… and then apart
They get back together at the point, and we have the Ed at the wheel dreamy point… but because Ed is too distracted by the relationship he leads the crew into danger.
He tells Stede he is going to leave and that they can’t be together because it’s going to kill them. “No more Stede Bonnet”.
Ed goes to Anne Bonny and Mary Reed. Ed already knows them (Anne was married to Calico Jack in real life). He has another breakdown. Tells them he had bad night, but is over it…
Until Stede finds him with Anne and Mary and they realise Stede is the person Ed has been crying over.
(So when Stede says ‘they are on a break’ to Susan it’s because Stede and Ed decided they have to be apart.)
Anne Bonny and Mary Reed invite them both to dinner. Ed attacks a painting and Stede gets sat on by Anne making Ed jealous. Anne and Mary are trying to get Ed and Stede back together.
It works and Ed and Stede are back together until…
Island era
They are back on the Revenge and there is a storm. Ed is swept off boat. Washes up on an island.
Ed finds the bottle Stede sent earlier on. He also makes friends with a bunny and works things through with a ghost (Hornigold?)
Stede & Izzy era
Izzy was injured at some point. Shot in the knee perhaps. He lost part of his leg and is now part unicorn.
Something happens that makes Izzy decide to accept Stede. Perhaps he realises that he made Ed happy and that is what he wants for Ed. Maybe he and Stede bond over the fact that they both think Ed is dead and acknowledge that they both loved him. Izzy decides to train Stede up to be a better pirate.
The British
Word gets out that the British are searching for Blackbeard and that he has been sighted on the island. Stede and the crew head there and meet the navy on the beach. Battle commences. Ed is on the beach too.
Ed and Stede run to each other. Ed is injured (arm or ribs).
They get Ed back to the boat and the cliff hanger is that we don’t know if Ed is going to be ok!

I can't stop thinking about rewriting S2. I don't know why – it's hard to find an activity that's actually less productive than writing fanfic, but surely this is it – but my brain won't stop circling around the idea, so I'm writing this down to hopefully shut it up.
A proposed outline for a better S2 of Our Flag Means Death.
Episodes 1-3 are pretty much the same as what aired. The big change is that I'm cutting out Prince Ricky. I think two big antagonists are too much for an eight episode season, though I went back and forth on whether to cut Zheng or Ricky. I decided on Ricky because the "end of piracy" plot is way too overwrought for a comedy series, and there's no way it was ever going to work without a lot of build-up. Like, a lot a lot. Possibly multiple seasons of it, and we just don't have time for that here. Also, although Ricky makes a fun foil to Stede, that never really goes anywhere. So he's gone. This doesn't make much of a difference to these first three episodes, since he's only in two scenes, but it will help tighten the focus at the end of the season. One other change is that it's clear (perhaps even referenced in dialogue) that Ed is still not killing anyone directly with his own hands.
Episode Four: This is where I start with the big changes, rewriting this whole episode. Now it's focused on the crew wanting to kick Ed off the ship. Stede goes back and forth between the crew and Ed, trying to talk the crew around while simultaneously trying to romance Ed. He fails on both sides. Perhaps we still have Ed's corporate "apology", as an attempt at compromise, but the crew refuses to accept it and this time, they're in charge. Lucius has his plot about being traumatized and drawing Ed's face everywhere (but not the resolution, not in this episode). Ed is angry at Stede – they get to have an actual fight, about Stede leaving, about Ed marooning the crew/tossing Lucius overboard, about Ed's mermaid dream vs Stede's masculine pirate hero dream. Ed fears he's unlovable, and Stede's unrealistic declarations of love are just making him feel like anything between them is impossible. (Maybe Ed & Izzy have a fight too – I'm not committed to including this, depending on time, but it could be good. Maybe Izzy gets to say, "A rotten leg's got to come off" to Ed!) At the end of the episode, Ed leaves the ship and tells Stede not to follow him. Everyone's angry and upset.
Episode Five: Ed spends the entire episode off the ship, throwing himself into his new career as a fisherman (it doesn't have to be fishing. It can be anything, as long as it's new. The point is Ed running away from himself and his past and trying to become an entirely new person). He's using a new name – Jeff? – and has a whole backstory he's made up. At the end of the episode, he realizes that this isn't making him happy either, because he keeps thinking about his guilt, about Stede, about Izzy or Lucius or whoever he centers on as someone's he's mistreated, and so he leaves.
Meanwhile, on board the Revenge, everyone's having a miserable time. This is where the 'traumatized crew comes together to make the unicorn leg' plot goes, except this time it's a three-sided hot mess, with the crew, Izzy, and Stede – heartbroken over his idealized view of 'true loves fixes everything' having crashed and burned in the previous episode. Buttons turns into a bird, but this time Stede is the one to witness it. It inspires him to patch things up with the crew and go after Ed. Together, they all come up with a motto for the season – something like, 'change is possible' or 'you've got to try again', idk, except it's probably cheesy and rhymes and yet is weirdly inspirational, a la 'talk it through as a crew'.
Episode Six: Ed runs into Anne Bonny and Mary Read, and goes to stay with them. Before Stede shows up, Ed gets a bit of time to talk and reminiscence with them about their own "good old days", back when he was happy. It becomes clear though, that remembering murder and torture and etc is not making him happy now. Ed asks them about feeling guilty. Their advice is terrible: only losers care. Ed laughs it off, but clearly is conflicted. Stede tracks him down, and the rest of the episode play out pretty much like it did in canon (I think Jenkins & co really wanted to do "Ed and Stede as exes at a party", so I am giving it to them here). However, the vibes are a bit different – it's less that Ed and Stede haven't spoken at all as in canon, but that they had their big fight in E4 and are now dealing with the awkward aftermath of wanting to make up, each wanting to maintain their pride, and not knowing how to do either. At the end, Stede gets the courage to put himself out there and asks Ed to come back to the ship. Ed refuses at first – the crew doesn't want him and he doesn't know how to be a better person. Stede passes on the motto the crew came up with in the previous episode – 'change is possible' or whatever – and Ed agrees to come and try. They have a brief, chaste, kiss.
The crew back on the Revenge should have a B-plot too. I love the cursed suit subplot and would stick it here, but honestly I'm not sure it works if Stede isn't around to be the pro-suit side of the debate. Maybe we have a training montage, but it's Izzy and the crew instead of Izzy and Stede. Whatever happens, we also get the Lucius and Pete proposal. This goes along with the hopeful, new beginnings vibe of what's happening with Ed/Stede.
Episode Seven: Ed and Stede return to the ship, and the crew agrees to let Ed try out their new motto. Calypso party preparations begin, but this time Ed is not just handing out money but taking part in finding and putting together decorations and set-up. We get scenes of him and different characters working together; things are awkward but improving. Izzy and Wee Jon can still do drag and sing. Ned Low shows up and disrupts the party.
The big change here: Ed is the one to kill Ned Low, not Stede. I love Stede's plot about becoming a pirate hero and killing and not dealing with it, but it's just too much for a season with a lot of other stuff going on. Sorry, Stede; your masculinity issues have to wait for S3.
Ed killing someone is portrayed as a very big deal. Ned is more dangerous here – it's seen as necessary for someone to kill him, and Ed taking on the role is cast as him becoming the protector of the crew rather than their tormentor. Nonetheless, despite Ned's death being a 'good' thing, Ed is traumatized and he and Stede still have ill-advised sex about it. Izzy can definitely still sing La Vie en Rose during.
Episode Eight: Zheng has (like in canon) been collecting all of the pirates in the Caribbean into her alliance. Now she's finally coming for the Revenge. It's them against dozens of ships. I think, since I'm making Zheng more of a straightforward antagonist than a reluctant ally, I have to break up Olu/Zheng. That's okay. In fact, it can make a nice parallel – sometimes people grow apart and it's not anyone's 'fault', it's just life. Are Stede and Ed also growing apart, or will they find a path forward together?
Stede comes up with what someone describes as a suicide mission. Ed says, 'what if we don't commit suicide?' He wants to live. He wants to be happy. He's still grappling with having killed Low, and he realizes that he can't do that again – can't even put himself in a situation where it might be kill or be killed. He proposes they surrender and just go and live on land somewhere. Why not? What is piracy good for, even, other than violence and theft? Izzy makes his speech about belonging to something. The crew – which has been swaying back and forth, debating both for and against fighting Zheng – is convinced, and decide to go to battle. Ed isn't. He agrees that community is important, that it was there when he needed it, that he'll always be glad he had it, but he can't stay. He's changing. This is him changing, for real. He and Izzy have a final exchange about Ed moving on and Izzy accepting it.
Ed and Stede have an emotional goodbye, where Ed says that he won't be like Anne & Mary – he won't let Stede leave piracy for him, but maybe Stede can come and visit some time. They make some long-distance relationship jokes. Ed leaves. They're both being ~super~ mature and adult about it, but they're clearly both not really happy.
Stede and the crew prepare for battle. Lucius and Pete get married, as a last hurrah for the Revenge in case not everyone survives the coming confrontation. They carry out Stede's plan (I don't know what that is, I'm not an action scene writer, something cool and out-of-the-box. Though it's not like 'dress up in British uniforms' was a unique and exciting plan either). They succeed, either by defeating Zheng or just escaping for now. (Does Izzy die in battle? It doesn't really seem necessary. If he does, it's clearly about becoming one of the crew and they're the ones his death scene centers on, since Ed isn't even there.) There's a big celebration scene and/or funeral, and everyone is bonding, people are cheering Stede's plan, but Stede himself can't join in wholeheartedly. He's off in the corner, clearly not quite satisfied. He pulls aside Frenchie and tells him, "I have something to give you".
The final scene: Ed is working on his new career. Maybe he's running a bar & grill in the Republic of Pirates. He's not hiding who he is, even using the Blackbeard name for PR, but it's not a fighting-focused career. Stede walks up, clearly unexpected, and Ed's like, "thought it'd take a lot longer for your first visit." Stede gets a big speech about piracy. Everyone's gotten to define it for themselves; for Ed it was about violence, for Izzy community. (Maybe some of the rest of the crew have gotten to voice their own takes as well.) Stede says that for him, piracy means freedom. That's what he was dreaming of, when he first set out to be a pirate, what he's been looking for his whole life – the freedom to be who he really is. Ed says, "and who are you?" Stede replies, "the man who loves you." They kiss.
We get an overhead shot, swinging out to sea, with the Revenge sailing away with Frenchie as captain. Distantly, we hear Ed and Stede talking as sound fades out –
Ed: You promise you're not going to burn down my bar when you get bored? Stede: Why would I be bored? I have so many ideas! Theme nights, cocktail recipes, waitstaff uniforms... Ed: Hey, what happened with Zheng? Stede: Oh, she might hunt me down for revenge. Another reason we won't be bored!

AU character introduction (◡ ω ◡)
Yippee
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More about the characters after the cut!
Chica Ann
Description:
A friendly, cheerful girl that will always look for her friends. She always on the lookout for new experiences and adventures for her and the ones she cares about, even if the others aren't completely on board with her ideas. Even though it looks like this energy pushes away some people, she remains positive of finding someone that will stick with her no matter what.
Redesign notes:
• I've grown fond of the Ann name, so I kept it (hehe Chica Ann sounds like chicken)
• She's bi bc why not?
• I think I've said this before, but I made her fat out of spite of her being called fat in the series
• I want to add a star theme to her design, I think is cool (✯ᴗ✯)
Bonnie
Description:
This kid looks like they live in their own world, constantly on his phone with a blank stare, showing no interest on others, etc. This has resulted in her being alone most of the time. Although xem may not show it, xe is very passionate about a lot of things, maybe a little too much...
Redesign notes:
• Gender fluid bc i thought Bonnie was a girl for a good while
• Gay, as in male attracted person, again, out of spite of pushing the BxB while keeping Bonnie as straight 😐
• Autistic (didn't know how to put this)
• Weird outfits
The two of them:
They spend a lot of time together ever since Chica established herself as Bonnie's friend, and ze just accepted it. They go to the arcade every now and then, and like each other company in general. Being that is usually only the two of them, they sometimes wonder what is like to be in a bigger group.
+ them without the million filters that I used (oops)

Best Couple: Stede and Edward “Blackbeard” Teech (Our Flag Means Death)
Tumblr media
Since Ben 10, I have kind of noticed that most people love writing about a couple getting together but never deal with the whole making the relationship works. Maybe it has been a thing and just not something in the shows I watch. Still, I do appreciate when shows do the whole “let's make the relationship works” when I do see it. Which is why I made Stede and Edward my Best Couple for 2023.
And boy was there a lot of work to be done for Stede and Edward. They were not left in a good spot at the end of Season 1 and that was picked up with Season 2. Stede being a hopeless romantic hoping to see Edward with no ship to seek him out. Meanwhile Edward was going through a huge self destructive depression that was going to get everybody killed.
And things didn’t get better when they got back together. Still, they put the work into it with the help of a friend turning into a bird. If I had to pick one episode from Season 2 of OFMD as a top 3 episode then Episdoe 4: Fun and Games where Stede and Edward meet Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure neither one of these guys have any idea how a relationship works but seeing how Anne and Mary’s relationship really did help them. In…A really weird way. They got to see how another relationship works. While it didn’t fully convince Edward to give Stede a second shot, the episode ended with Buttons giving Edward the idea that change can happen.
By changing into a bird…Which I guess. Why not!
Still, things were not all perfect after that as Edward had his issues to deal with. Then Stede being…Stede. Still, they worked through their problems. Granted, Blackbeard left again and I  could have done with less of that. Still, they did get back together to work through their stuff and give it another try. That was really good and glad that Stede and Edward ended the season on a happy note. While we may never see what becomes of them after this, I would like to think that they are running the best inn possible before they get captured and killed by the government.

wind waker link redesign!
Tumblr media
[ID: character reference sheet for a redesign of wind waker link, nicknamed waker (he/him). waker has warm, light skin tone with freckles and green eyes. his long blond hair is braided. there is a burn up his left arm and left side of his neck and palm of his right hand. he has several sailor tattoos: a sailor’s cross on the upper chest, a nautical star on the right forearm, rope on the left wrist, a seagull on the lower left arm, a cucco on the right foot and a pig on the left foot. there is a lineup of the three layers to the outfit design. the underwear layer is short, puffy, white cotton drawers and undershirt with dark beige stays. the base clothing layer is a roomy, beige pirate shirt with red ties, pants made from his sister’s old poppy dress, leather boots and suspenders and the iconic belt from the hero clothes. the final layer has the addition of a vest and headband made from his grandmother’s purple waist band, tetra’s red neckerchief and a pirate charm hanging from his belt. additional information included on the sheet are: waker is 17, 5’3” and has an east coast canadian accent, waker is a descendant of four swords link and ancestor of spirit tracks zelda, and he is dating pirate captain tetra. on the right side of the page is a colour palette, a trans flag and a heterosexual flag. end ID]
fun bonus info:
waker and tetra will be t4t
i took some inspiration from mary read and anne bonny, two famous women pirates that posed as men for much of their lives to avoid persecution. transgender wasn't a term around until two centuries after the golden age of piracy but there is a strong history of pirates being gender nonconforming, as demonstrated with mary and anne. i wanted to take that small piece of history and include it in waker and tetra. at its core (and ignoring the bad stuff), being a pirate is all about camaraderie and being proud that you are outcasts together. with those beliefs, i felt it was more well-suited that waker and tetra feel comfortable and supported in the bodies they already exist in and don't see the need to change and conform to any gender binary. i also thought it would be nice trans rep for those that don’t seek out gender affirming surgery👍
info on visible sailor tattoos: the cucco and pig are representative of rooster and pig tattoos sailors would put on their feet as good luck to find shore, should they go overboard. if a ship were to go down, crates of pigs and roosters would still float ashore because a wooden box is like a small boat :). the seagull tattoo is actually sparrows irl. each sparrow represents every 5000 nautical miles you sail. tetra has several more than waker obvi. a nautical star or compass rose tattoo is good luck to never get lost at sea. rope on the wrist represents his past job as a deckhand. the sailor’s cross is dedicated to a lover, which is tetra in this case.
info on non-visible tattoos which i couldn't add because they were too detailed: another use of sparrows in tattoos, is a sparrow with a dagger dedicated to someone you have lost. he has that as a tattoo for the king of red lions. it would be located on the back side of the same arm. the knuckles have "HOLD FAST" spelled out as a reminder to always have a tight grip on the rigging. on the webbing of his right hand, there is a crossed anchor tattoo showing his current status as a boatswain. a boatswain is like a manager of the ship but still under the captain in the hierarchy.
future tattoo: this one is funny but it is common for sailors to get tattoos of twin propellers on their ass cheeks. if you were to go overboard, they were said to be good luck for you to find shore quickly. waker does not have this tattoo yet but he thinks they are funny and really wants them because propellers make him think of linebeck's ship.

I'm going to say things bc that's how I cope.
As a person who thinks that if you're going to do something you should do it right, I can't help it, it bothered me how sloppy this season felt. Of course I fully blame HBO and their cheapness, but it stills bothers me. Not only we got two episodes less than s1, but the 8 we got were shorter, and you can tell. I also blame the budget cuts for the constant yet unnecessary flashbacks, and the weird editing, and the anticlimatic pace. In any case, I want to highlight the things I did like, because I fucking love this show and Im sure that after a rewatch or two I'll be less angry, so let's stay positive:
Since it seems they were having trouble to get the complete cast together in one plot, I do love they kinda let them have their spotlight one by one. Like, Frenchie in the first episodes, Wee John as Calypso, Lucius with his PTSD in ep5... It's not the same as s1, but it's something.
I've seen people complaining about this, but Im happy they didnt invest too much time on the forgiving process. I like it better when everyone gets along fine, and in the end they're pirates and they never seemed to be the kind of people who hold grudges, so yeah lets skip to the nice part.
I did like a lot what they did with Izzy. I don't care if it happened too quick or what, I used to feel indiference towards him and this season I actually enjoy his scenes a lot. I still dont know how I feel about his death tho. It bothered me a little that the whole scene was more about Ed than Izzy himself, but in the end I always saw Izzy as a narrative tool in Ed's arc more than as a character of his own, so I guess it makes sense.
Super happy with the music choices, and also the new outfits.
Really, the first five episodes were absolutely brilliant.
It made me so happy they got Bronson Pinchot as Ned Low.
Huge fan of Zheng Yi Sao and Auntie.
Im so fucking furious at Taika Waititi for his pro-Israel shit that seeing Pop Pop attacking him gave me some sort of inner peace.
Now, things I wished had been done differently: - There were a lot of paralelisms with s1, which is good, but I'd like they brought back more actual elements of s1 into play. Like, the lighthouse painting, the secret wardrobe, the pink robe, a third Badmington (he would have work better as big bad than this prince ricky guy I dont really care about?). Frenchie singing again. This oneis a reach, but I would love to have Mary Bonnet back. And I was really hoping they play with the fact that Stede is "dead". The guy doesnt even mention the Master Fuckery from ep10.
-On that note, I was a little dissapointed on Jim's arc. I was never that invested on them or their plot in s1, but it feels weird how this season it seems like none of that even happened. Even Jim felt like a different character. I feel it would worked better if some of the conflict was related to Siete Gallos stuff, so at least it would feel all of that subplot wasnt a waste of time.
-Little missing opportunities of making me happy: Anne Bonny and Mary Read mentioning Jack (to insult him, mostly); they kissing when the house is on fire; Ed finding not just one letter but the whole pile of them; a better narrative use for Seagull Buttons (well, any narrative use, really); developing the bombclocks thing in a way where Auntie was not deprived of her superhuman detective skills; having Ned Low as bigger villain, with several appearances.
-The general development of Ed/Stede in the final episode... It's just confusing to me. My reading of Stede's mind state was that he was on autopilot since he killed Ned Low, and being abandoned by Ed and having his ass kicked by Zheng would wake him up a little, but this episode he's still in PROBLEM SOLVER mode, zero regrets about anything, still hasn't talked anything through EVER, he's just fine. With Ed I dont even ask for coherence bc he's always been a wtf guy, but I dont understand the "just do whatever you're good at" thing in the beginning of the episode, and he claiming back his leathers and his pirate-self and going on berserker mode and fighting along Stede as equals and blablabla if at the end he's still chosing to be a fucking innkeeper. Also, having a shitty inn in the middle of nowhere sounds too close to the antique shop in ep4, didn't they learn ANYTHING from Mary and Anne? I mean, the innkeeping was a predictible outcome, but the setting up of the episode was really aiming to the opposite, so it feels weird to me. In any case, I'm happy they're together and if being absolutely on their own in the loneliest house in the world doesn't get them to improve their communication, idk what else they could do.
-Still think they should have been lighthouse keepers instead.
-Next season Im totally muting every OFMD tag as soon as they announce the trailer release, because the promo and bts content was absolutely TOO MUCH. Those fuckers had been showing us stuff from the very climax of the fucking last episode since weeks before the season aired. I get it's a me problem, but I do believe it ruined my experience a lot, so fuck that.
And well. That's it. Good season, could have been great. Im happy but sad. Let's just hope that, if there's a season 3, they gave them more money and time to do it properly.
And before I post this and run away from tumblr, Im checking out how much of my wishlist had been fulfilled: - LUCIUS IS ALIVE - Stede Bonnet, berserker era [Not as I imagined, but hey] - The Queen Anne’s Revenge, either being captured or coming back as the ship Ed left behind when he went to The Revenge - The Blockade of Charleston (and make really absurd) [Still might happen in the future?] - Anne Bonny and Mary Read(as middle aged women who kinda mirror Ed and Stede, but they did it right) - Since he was already mentioned in s1, it would make sense introducing Hornigold, maybe as a new antagonist or something. - A rip off of that wwdits episode with the Vampire Council, except this time is the Pirate Council and its members are pirates from other movies and shows [I was really dreaming big here] - On that note, a really weird episode with every person who has played Blackbeard in recent years [Fully tripping] - More women and more asian characters. And more people speaking their mother tongues [So many Chinese gals, not one chinese word :(] - Ed finding out about Stede’s death and believing it [It did happened but not how/when we thought] - Ed meeting Mary and getting along [Never losing hope on this one] - Frenchie adopting a cat (and singing a song about it). - More info about everyone’s pasts. - I would LOVE having Bartholomew Roberts in the show. [YES PLEASE]
