Trevonte Helton, a 29 year old Black man, "was found hanging from a tree at High Shoal Falls in North Georgia." This man was murdered, and their quick eagerness to call this an "isolated" incident is just horrifying.
Installation view of Freedom Square: The Black Girlhood Altar at the Chicago Cultural Center
The exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center opens with the installation “Homegoing.” The work is a suspended image depicting a screenshot from Ma’Khia Bryant’s personal TikTok. In the photo she’s laying her edges, her jet-black hair shining, her baby face clean and free of makeup. Below the printed photo is a collection of candles, stuffed animals, and a bouquet. On April 20, 2021, Ma’Khia was killed by an Ohio police officer in what was later determined a justifiable homicide. She was 16 years old.
In the gallery titled Rest and Recess: The Courtyard, the exhibition transports the viewer to the Caribbean where Black girls play together unburdened and hopeful. A tree, sculpted by Robert Narciso and made from branches from Rekia Boyd’s family home, sits in the center of the room casting a protective shadow over everything. From its branches hang yellow paper hearts scribed with the hopes and dreams of little Black girls. The sound of their joyful cacophony activates the space.
Tyre Nichols was loved by his community and was known to be gentle, kind, and joyful. He loved skating and was originally from the Bay Area in California. He was known as someone “you know when he comes through the door he wants to give you a hug” and that “he wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“He had never been in trouble with the law, not even a parking ticket. He was an honest man, a wonderful son, and kind to everyone. He was quirky and true to himself, and his loss will be felt nationally.”

for those who may not know - this is a Civil Matter, where police were called in to issue an eviction. Who would use a gun and bullets to evict someone from a home? WHITE SUPREMACISTS CLEARLY
youtube
THIS IS WHY POLICE DO NOT NEED QUALIFIED IMMUNITY
cops fired over 1000 rounds and had more than 100 cops on sight to evict one older Black man from a home he had rented for years. Civil procedures need to eliminate the use of Cops, because this is what happens. No More Murders for Civil Matters using Public Servants
Last week, two young Black men were murdered. 33 year old Ricky Cobb II was shot to death by Minnesota State troppers. 28 year old O'Shae Sibley, a Gay dancer, was stabbed to death while playing Beyoncé's music and vougeing with his friends.
The cops responsible for Ricky Cobb's death are Ryan Londregan (the shooter), Brett Seide, and Garrett Erickson. His relatives (and many others) are fighting to have these troopers held accountable. A currently unnamed 17-year old turned himself in for stabbing O'Shae Sibley, although he was accompanied by others.
I don't know if Ricky Cobb's family has a crowdfund set up or not (if so, someone please add on), but O'Shae Sibley's family does. You can find the GFM here.
O'shae not only was the glue to this family, he was a great dancer and performer for the majority of his life. His spirit lit up every room he stepped in. His smile was contagious! To know him, was to live him. He did not deserve this. Everyone loved his spirit ❤️
-- from the GoFundMe started by O'Shae Sibley's father, Jake Kelly.
From Ricky Cobb's relatives:
"I'm exhausted. My heart is heavy every day for the last three days. Waking up, I have migraines. And I'm hurt. I would like those officers to man up. I'm here to be a voice and stand strong like a rock that I am for my son and speak out." -- Mother, Nyra Fields Miller
"My brother was a good man. He was a provider for all of us. He protected all of us." -- Sibling, Octavia Ruffin
These men should still be alive. Their families, friends, and community should not be going through this loss and grief. If there's one thing any of us (nonblack people) can do, it's not let them go through this unheard and unseen.
Rest in power Ricky Cobb II. Rest in power O'Shae Sibley. Abolish the police.
“[Mayor] Adams ordered the clearing of hundreds of homeless camps and sent an additional 1,000 police officers to patrol subways and remove homeless people from train cars and platforms. He also simultaneously cut $615M from the city’s Department of Homeless Services.”
“I myself, as a white man, I’ve got a long way to go and a lot to learn. I haven’t been in your place. I haven’t suffered the way you suffered. I’m just beginning to learn the nature of that experience. And somehow that has to be translated to the white community now. Time is running out for everybody. That’s enough. That’s enough talking.”
—Marlon Brando, speaking at the funeral of Bobby Hutton, the 17yr old Black Panther who was murdered by the Oakland police.
My family has a museum on River Road in Gonzalez Louisiana. the history will make you run through the fields running and crying. the bloody river road will never leave my memory..
Chris Kaba was shot dead by London Met police in Streatham on 5 September. He was unarmed and his car was blocked in by police, and his car was found with a single bullet-hole at head height. He was 24 and about to become a dad. He was also known as Madix from the drill group 67.
A march in his memory was held on 10 September and wrongly reported by news media as a march in memory of the Queen.
If you're angry that the the media's obsession with the Queen's death is keeping news like this out of the headlines, the solution is to keep talking about it.
I feel like... Perhaps... Arguing that transphobia is defined by murder and that anything other than murder doesn't even matter... May NOT be conducive to fighting for trans rights.
Like... people want the right to exist as they are. They want to have access to hrt and surgeries and prosthetics. People want access to clothes that fit them and reflect how they want to be seen. People want access to medical care (eg. Getting screened and treated for sex-based forms of cancer can be impossible if you have the "wrong" sex listed to receive those tests). People want to be respected and treated well. People want to not be sexually assaulted and beaten and abused. People want to have access to housing and jobs, and the protection to not lose those things for being trans. People want access to shelters for homeless people or survivors of domestic abuse. People want name changes.
Acting like all of those things don't matter because at least they weren't murderered by an individual (and instead die of suicide or state violence, or survive and suffer) isn't okay.
