[ID: Two black and white photos of Kwame Ture/Stokely Carmichael, a young Black man, saying into a microphone with a sardonic expression, "In order for non-violence to work, your opponent must have a conscience. The United States has none, has none." End ID.]
image description: image is a black and white photograph of fred hampton and a fellow black panther woman standing towards what looks like they are facing an individual or crowd. fred hampton is smokin a cig lookin cool as hell, in a knit vest or sweater... can't really tell. the image has text and it says, "theory's cool, but theory with no practice ain't shit. - fred hampton April 27 1969"
fyi smoking is not cool but rather very cancerous. even when it looks cool.
So im doing a bucket full of research of mutal aid programs and ideas for Reaping week
And over the course of this I've ended up digging into the black panthers movement programs and here's a small list from the index of the book I'm reading
But also like?? There's something about the phrase "Survival pending revolution" that just hits in a a really cathartic way.
When we talk about needing to tear down the system but that ppl still need it to survive and a lot of those systems are baked into Capitalism and will need to be rebuilt from the ground up I think that's a really good way to phrase things like Community Fridges and little pantries and clothing drives.
“I myself, as a white man, I’ve got a long way to go and a lot to learn. I haven’t been in your place. I haven’t suffered the way you suffered. I’m just beginning to learn the nature of that experience. And somehow that has to be translated to the white community now. Time is running out for everybody. That’s enough. That’s enough talking.”
—Marlon Brando, speaking at the funeral of Bobby Hutton, the 17yr old Black Panther who was murdered by the Oakland police.
