WDYWFM? - Pt. 1 (UPDATED!)

Synopsis: The European leg of the Concrete Forever tour marks one year since Tyler Garrett joined the Bad Omens media team. A lot can change over the course of a year. New experiences, new friendships, and new discoveries emerge.

Tonight was night five of the European leg of the 2024 Concrete Forever tour and the end of January had marked one year since I had first joined the Bad Omens media crew. With the band's increase in popularity Bryan, the band's photographer and media director, decided it was time to expand the team going into Shiprocked so he could focus more carefully on planning and curating the media content produced and published for the band.

So Bryan reached out to a friend in the music industry and asked if they knew of any photographers/videographers with a solid portfolio who were looking for a more permanent media production gig. That friend connected him to me and as they say, the rest is history.

“Tyler! Did you finish up the edits for tonight's social post?” Bryan’s voice carried from the front of the crew bus to the back lounge where I sat backing up files to my external harddrive.

“Yeah! They’re already in the dropbox!” I responded before ejecting my drive from my macbook and throwing them both back onto my bunk.

I clipped my crew credentials with “CONCRETE FOREVER TOUR” and “TYLER GARRETT - MEDIA CREW” printed across the top and bottom through the belt loop of my jeans and slipped on my crew sweatshirt before walking toward the front of the bus. Bryan and Alana were standing over the main table and counter area double checking the batteries and the assortment of cameras we would be mounting in various parts of the stage for tonight's show along with our individual gear that would be on our person and laid out backstage for us to use throughout the show.

The air once we stepped into the venue was buzzing with energy. I don’t know what it was about this leg of the tour, but it was like a switch was flipped. Ever since the first date in January opening for Bring Me The Horizon back in Cardiff there was this high that enveloped the entire group and it looked like no one would be coming down anytime soon.

This energy was especially present in the band's lead singer, Noah. The usually stoic and serious persona he portrayed on stage was now replaced with one that roamed around the various levels of the stage doing jumping jacks, pushups, dances, and little vocal trills.

After the first two shows, his antics even caused Poppy, our opener for this part of the tour, to completely abandon portraying her A.I. character like was originally planned for their performances of V.A.N. Instead, she joined in Noah’s antics and even introduced the world to this little handshake that they had originally created during rehearsals leading up to the tour.

Life in between gigs had been lively as well since the start of the new year. After each show when everything was packed up and the load outs were completed, the band and crew for both Bad Omens and BMTH would venture to one of the local pubs and celebrate with a few beers and carbonated beverages before loading up on the buses and venturing off to the next city.

Until joining the Bad Omens crew, I would usually keep to myself in between shows while touring - choosing to prioritize edits, catalog files, and update my individual socials when not trying to finish a book on my Kindle or finish a show on a random streaming service.

The first few months of touring after Shiprocked changed all of that and a few of the crew and band made it their mission to pull me out of the confines of my comfort zone and my regular routine. Over the course of the past year, Bryan has pushed me to learn and develop my photo and video skills far past where I ever thought they would go. Matt started teaching me front of the house controls, he now hounds me with daily racoon memes, and I in turn buy him random Dr. Pepper merch. Steven taught me all about the finer side of wristwatches, NBA basketball, and the intricacies of running merch. Alana quickly became one of my best friends and has balanced her assistant tour manager duties well alongside keeping me sane as the only other female member of the media team and crew.

Folio decided that I absolutely had to learn how to fish when one of our venues had a lake nearby, even making me kiss the smallmouth bass that I caught before he threw it back in citing that it was tradition with your first fish. He also dared me to smoke my first joint, which caused me to hack up a lung because I somehow inhaled wrong. Nicholas helped me design a few tattoo ideas before inking my forearm and starting what will eventually become a full sleeve up my right arm. Jolly taught me a bunch of guitar riffs and how to cuss in Swedish (which I do entirely too often now), and Noah surprised me with the hidden talent of being a pool shark and we ended up becoming quick friends to the point where he is now my partner in crime hustling people out of their money when the crew goes out to bars. I also learned that while he hates it when people try to scare and prank him, he loves to scare and prank others.

Which is why, as expected, throughout three out of the first four shows of the European leg, Noah made it his mission to try and scare me at least once per show mainly during the song transitions when I would try to quickly get from one side of the stage to the next during the blackouts. In Berlin, it was during the transition after “Nowhere to Go” when I was coming down from the second level of the stage after retrieving the camera that was filming Folio play. Luckily I had handed the camera and its tripod down to Alana behind the platform before descending the steps in time for Noah to jump out at the bottom already wearing his ski mask for V.A.N.

I jumped, skipping a step on the way down, and felt a set of arms grab me and hold me back up before I could fall too far forward. I remember yelling ‘fucking hell’ in swedish and looking up to see Noah with a shit eating grin peaking through the mask and hearing Jolly laugh at my use of the words. I grabbed his mask and yanked on it so it was crooked on his face before I ran behind the platform to the other side of the stage where I had left my camera gear. I heard him let out a laugh and a few cuss words of his own as he struggled to fix the mask and climb the steps up to his spot on the platform before Poppy started singing.

Night one in Cologne, I was mainly in the photo pit for the majority of the show, while Bryan and Alana were the ones roaming the stage. I kept a gear bag tucked behind one of the few big boxes we had on either side of the stage. In it, I had my spare batteries, my water bottle, and the 360 camera on an extension pole. The plan for this show was to focus on crowd shots and footage along with regular low-angle stage shots. While I got amazing shots of the guys performing and some hilarious shots of a fan crowd surfing in an inflatable shark suit. Noah lost any possible opportunity offered for pranking during the show.

On night two in Cologne, he made up for the missed opportunity. During the transition between “Artifical Suicide” and “Like A Villan,” I quickly ran to the media team roadcase set up behind the guitar stage case and tech area to get a quick drink of water and change out a lens. As I was kneeling down in front of the case and had just finished switching the lenses, I felt a pair of hands grab my shoulders. Luckily all the equipment was out of my hands because the sudden motion made me jump and fall back on my heels, causing me to bump into something, well someone, behind me. I let out a string of curse words, this time in English, and tilted my head back to see Noah, now without his mask, trying to hold back a laugh as he smiled down at me. I let out an annoyed sign and rolled my eyes. He gave my shoulder a squeeze before disappearing back out onto the stage right as the song began.

In Munich, he chose the “Miracle” break as his time to strike. Only this time he stepped up his game. While I was switching out gear and changing my settings from photo to video, I set everything on a storage case under the second level platform and stood up to stretch a bit since this break was the more lengthy of the two. After I finished trying rid my shoulders of the tension that had built up from holding a camera in front of my face for a hour, I felt an arm wrap across the front of my collarbones and pulled me back into them while the person's other hand took one of the band's athletic water bottles and sprayed it down the rear collar of my crew hoodie. I squirmed and let out a loud gasp as the shock of the icey cold water briefly hit the back of my neck before I managed to wriggle away. I turned and as expected was greeted by a sweaty Noah smiling down at me trying to hold back laughter.

“You little shit!” I shouted before quickly grabbing the water bottle from his hand and pointed it at him spraying him with the same icy cold water.

He started swatting at the spray, laughing as his long thin fingers did nothing to block the liquid. He reached out and grabbed my wrist and I quickly tried to switch the bottle to my other hand but he was too quick, capturing that wrist as well before I could aim the bottle at his face again. I laughed and tried to pull away but he pulled me toward him and pinned my wrists against his chest trying to render the “weapon” he introduced inoperable.

The laughter between us suddenly died off. The height difference between my 5’1” and his 6’3'' became very clear and his chin practically touched his chest as he gazed down at me. We stood there for what felt like an eternity, brown eyes connected with blue. He loosened his grip on my wrists slightly but neither of us made any attempt to move.

The arena suddenly felt very warm and I don’t think I could blame it on the array pyrotechnics used during the show. I don’t know what to call this sudden shift in the air between us, but all I know is it caused something to flutter in my stomach and that scared the hell out of me. So I did the first thing I could think of, I diffused an intense moment with humor. I squeezed the water bottle that was still in my hand and the last remnants of water from the bottle hit Noah’s chin and neck. The shock of the cold liquid caused him to step back and release my wrists. I immediately missed the contact, but I needed to get away from this situation.

“Shit that really is cold!” He laughed, turning to grab one of the black towels we had on hand backstage and started to dry off the water.

When he turned to offer me the towel I had already retrieved my camera and fled to the other side of the stage wondering what the fuck had just happened.

During the day off between Munich and Zurich, I kept myself busy editing, organizing, and uploading photo content to the media team drive and to my own socials. I had gained a considerable amount of followers since joining the Bad Omens team and while I enjoyed seeing the reaction and appreciation the guys' fans had when I posted new content, I was also starting to see some of the reasons why the guys like to take social media breaks as often as they do.

Editing was one of my favorite parts of being a photographer and with us starting this European leg off with four back-to-back shows, I hadn’t had time to pause and really work my magic. So that is what I designated as my mission for this day off. I also may have used it as an excuse to avoid leaving the crew bus and chance any more contact with Noah. I was still trying to figure out if that flutter in my stomach was real or if it was just part of the adrenaline from a high energy concert and my body being attacked with ice cold water.

Tonight, we were in Zurich and I was running around the stage at various times throughout the set while Bryan was down in the photo pit trying out some new ideas he had photos wise and finally having his turn with the 360 camera during a show.

During “What do you want from me?” I was standing in the wings to stage left filming Noah when he suddenly walked over to me in the middle of the second verse, grabbed my left wrist from where it held the side of my camera and pulled me out onto the stage. I keep filming as he releases my wrist and quickly slips his hand in mine while he continues to walk backward onto the stage. Once we were in the middle of the stage he started to spin in a circle with our connected hands extended in the middle. We spun around a few times before he started to jump while we were spinning causing his hair to bounce up and down on his head which I shakily captured on camera. The randomness of it all led to fits of laughter and caused Noah to mess up the last two lines of the verse.

As the verse came to an end I expected him to let go and yell, “JUMP JUMP” like he usually does during the brief blackout. Instead, as the light goes out, I am yanked forward and feel a hand and the cool metal of a microphone against the side of my face, and a set of lips briefly collide with mine. I barely had time to process what happened before it ended, the lips were gone, the lights came back up, and Noah jumped onto the riser at the front of the stage to sing the rest of the song. I still held my camera up and panned to follow him trying to hide any reaction my face might show behind a veil of concentration.

For the remainder of the show, I tried to avoid making any and all eye contact with Noah, who in turn tried his damndest to get me to look at him and gauge my reaction to what he did. He did it in a way that wasn’t too noticeable to the crowd by acting like he's playing up to the camera. My brain tried to process what had happened and what the hell it possibly meant over the course of the remaining ten songs in the set.

Noah kissed me.

Oh Shit! Did anyone in the audience see?

The usual jump scare from the previous shows never came and my self-sabotaging brain was trying to solve the question of what everything meant. Kissing me to see my reaction instead of scaring me like usual? Was this real or was it just another prank?

If your comment on knock off versions was a joke, disregard this. If not, I'm arguing: Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins was published in 1989. How The Grinch Stole Christmas was published in 1957. If anything was a knock off version of the other, it definitely wasn't that the Grinch is cribbing. And I don't actually think their themes are that similar, nor are the villains, despite superficial similarities of "people celebrate their winter religious holiday despite interference from monsters." The goblins want to eat Hershel, not stop Chanukah. Overall, looking past the lighthearted children's stories, the two reflect extremely difficult cultural fears. Christians are worried their traditions are becoming less meaningful in an era of increasing commercialism. And like, sure, it's not like we don't feel that way about Chanukah, but also Jews (and HatHG) remain worried that we will all be killed and there will be no one left in the places we lived who can continue our traditions.

You're right about the dates, and the "knockoff" bit was a half-joke made over my morning coffee. Mostly I'm talking about social role with regards to "popular kid's stories around the holiday" (where I live, at least) but I'll push back about your analysis of the themes

The goblins invade the synagogue and refuse to allow the villagers to celebrate Hanukkah, even in their own homes. Herschel comes to town and sees that they're too afraid to celebrate, and if they try, they are attacked by goblins. They are very much a stand-in for real antisemitism.

I'm focusing more on that discussion about how a "Grinch" is someone who doesn't like christmas, an outsider's perspective, and how that story had been weaponized by "war on xmas"/secular xmas believers against non xtians.

I know what Seuss has said about why he wrote it, and I know that he said that it's about commercialism, but in the modern context, consider:

It is a story about some visibly distinguishable as "other" who isn't human and who hates Christmas for no reason other than that it's loud and ubiquitous, so he tries to ruin their holiday and stop them from celebrating, but their love of the holiday runs deep and he is swayed into joining them through their displays of unwavering faith, and now he celebrates Christmas.

And in the context of that post I left the tags on, someone was telling Jews that they define a "Grinch" as "someone who hates Christmas". I've heard this take for years, often from completely well-meaning people, that any refusal to celebrate xmas makes us inhuman creatures with hearts described as "two sizes too small".

We live in the times of "a war on xmas". I have twice this year been told that I'm "a bit of a Grinch" because I think that mid-November is too early for all the radio stations to play nothing but xmas music, and for responding to "merry christmas" with a trite "happy hanukkah" (to someone who knows that I'm Jewish, again, in November). They genuinely believe that my refusal to participate is me trying to stop them from celebrating, and I'm infringing on their right, and that if I just appreciated joy and opened up my (tiny) heart I could know true happiness. They genuinely feel that they're oppressed.

This is to say nothing of the fact that while Seuss said it was based on him and his own disdain for commercialism, this is also from a man whose racial sensitivity track record is. not great to say the least, and while I'm not saying it was deliberate, I am saying that unconscious biases exist.

im thinking of random toh headcanons ive got floating around in my head:

1. i feel like this is pretty much fanon all across the board for the most part, but luz “weak nerd arms” noceda grew more physically active post-boiling isles but the difference isn’t really noticed until she’s in the human realm again and oh hey! that nerd from gym class? luz has got endurance in spades; she’s a regular at free running now. and she’s gotten an offer from the cheer squad to join once she returns but she turns them down. she and hunter go running in the park on the weekends bc luz is now a flexible speed demon and hunter’s kind of glad she can keep up with him.

2. hunter definitely gets into gaming. not just board games but mmorpgs and turn based games and all sorts. does he get into CoD? yes and no, bc on one hand, battling it out with a team with no lethalness involved helps burn out a lot of his anxiety that springs him into fight mode, but he can’t do mics bc his team mates are annoying and rude and will not take the match seriously like he does. he likes leisurely decision based games, like nitw and oxenfree, bc one, exploration and two, lore. the boy loves mysteries so he gets super into video game lore, im talking YouTube essays talking about themes and Easter eggs and pop culture.

3. willow tends to keep her insecurities close to her chest. she likes being the voice of reason and dependable for her friends bc she’s no longer considered useless “half-a-witch” willow, but she’ll avoid talking about her own emotions if she can. she’d rather put her energy towards something more constructive like her gardening and working out, and while her friends do their best to make sure she’s included in any and all bonding activities, willow will internalize. she will speak with Gus about it on occasion, and she feels only a little bit distant from Luz now since she and Amity are dating and she’s understanding, so inevitably she reveals bits and pieces with hunter. as a result, they spar whenever she has to deal with bouts of frustration. it’s shameless how they flirt.

4. since the day of unity and upon their inevitable return to the boiling isles, Gus wants to use his illusion talents in a more self-defensive manner? generally it’s used more for distraction and evasion, but when he starts working out with willow and hunter, combined with input from amity whose magic is mainly combat based, he becomes more flexible with how he uses his illusions.

5. on top of combat, Gus spends his time building his knowledge of the human realm, which goes without saying, but he partners with Eda on selling her human realm products now that they know what things actually are and what they’re used for. human realm technology becomes pretty popular in the demon realm bc of Gus.

6. amity and her father finally get closer. it’s really slow-going, but with her mother out of the picture they’ve gotten a chance to experiment with abominations with honest-to-titan creativity, and not just creating abominations for combat. as a result, they start trying to use abomination clay for more practical every day applications like construction and travel, but also abominations to explore areas of the isles that are too dangerous for normal witches to access.

7. Gus and Matt still help protect the looking glass ruins, and they’ve grown closer in their friendship. Gus is still leagues beyond Matt in terms of illusion magic, but Matt inspires creativity in mischief, so they become a prank trickster duo that rivals the Blight twins. and since Gus loves to express himself creatively, they end up reinvigorating Hexside’s long dead theater program. they are the most beloved theater kids in the entire school.

8. hunter and willow dance around each other for a good year and a half after the day of unity. their friends have a betting pool going on. Hunter fell first, but Willow spent a good while trying to figure out exactly why she’s so attached to this boy. when it finally hits her she adamantly refuses to talk about it, and they are the friends everyone thinks is already dating. Luz is in agony. Amity is amused. Gus is amused. all parties involved in the bet are just eating popcorn.

9. and I only just realized this like a week ago when I was rewatching the first season with my friend, and it’s not really a headcanon but more of an interpretation I guess BUT. but of course, magic is a gift from the isles, which is the Titan. and who was with Luz when she first discovered the light glyph? King. Luz was chosen not because she was destined; she was chosen bc she wanted to love and protect her friends and family. King chose her, didn’t even realize it, because of who she is as a person. because she loves him and he loves her and this realization MAKES ME SO EMOTIONAL TO THINK ABOUT. THE POWER OF CHOSEN/FOUND FAMILY IDC IF THIS DOESNT MAKE PERFECT SENSE IT DOES IN MY HEART.

Note

Isn't it odd Symphogear didn't get any normal length OAV or movie made, or even on the merch side more nendo or nendo petit made considering how popular it was in Japan? I know the fear was real with prods and manus during the first two seasons because they thought it was a fail project and didn't want to invest but after five seasons and five concerts? I don't know I feel like I'm missing data on why we were given the short stick compared to other popular animes...

Ah, I never really felt like that when it comes to the series (except for figures, but I get to that later in the post. I went on a bit of a tangent and it ended up longer than intended. Oops)

Five whole seasons

Four series of shorts

Enough character songs to have a box of 9 CDs released (doesn't include XDU songs)

Concerts that get released on blu-ray since G's (this one just feels like a bigger deal to me because season 1's in 2012 never got recorded or released)

A mobile game that's been running for 6 years and gets its own albums separate from the aforementioned box (there was another mobile game a decade ago that died pretty fast but nobody remembers that one, shhh...)

And a monthly spinoff manga that has enough content for four volumes so far

...All feels like a miracle to me, especially for an anime not based on an existing manga, game, or light novel

Seriously, I love this series but I have no idea how G was greenlit

I'm still waiting to see what the new project is because there's still a possibility that it could be a movie or something. I just don't expect it anytime soon, whether it be a movie or an OVA, because Kaneko (co-creator and scenario writer for the series) is busy both designing and writing a RPG which he stated was something he wanted to do while not working on Symphogear since he was too busy to work on games while he was doing that (link is Japanese, but it's the interview where he said that)

Which, again, is probably why the new project is dated 20XX

If it's a movie I'd like it to be completely new content but if they make some lengthier OVAs, I've been asking for an adaptation of 3.5 from XDU for a while since the Alexandria Incident gets mentioned in AXZ.

XDU's service isn't going to last forever and I'd hate to lose a canon side story like that when it does eventually end.

They could also do 4.5 but it isn't as high a priority for me because it serves more as an introduction to Noble Red than anything and outside of the short part between Fine and Enki, it felt weird coming out after XV ended

On a bit of a side note, I've said it before, but I wouldn't be too surprised if any new anime content is by Studio KAI instead of Satelight. A LOT of Symphogear's staff moved over there after XV ended which is why XDU's second OP was done by them.

I can't believe it took as long as it did for Kirika, Shirabe, and Maria to get figures. Especially Maria, who didn't have one released until 2022.

And it is an actual crime that Miku still doesn't have one despite being around since season 1. That is Hibiki's Wife Sunshine y'all are ignoring. (Season 1 Miku with green hair when? 🤣)

Hobby Stock's set of scale figures they've been releasing and Good Smile's ACT MODEs are a step in the right direction though. There's also been more plushes in recent years which I personally really love.

One of my wishes is someone going back to G and making figures for that so we can get Black Gungnir Maria or Shenshoujing Gear Miku

The parallel world versions of everyone from XDU would be fun too but I'm not pushing my luck there. The other Hibiki technically already has one but it used an existing Hibiki figure as a base

And yes, I am begging for a game that isn't gacha. I'm a lover of action games and RPGs so I would love something along those lines. I'm not horribly picky about the specific type

hello! i'm planning on trying for g-rosso s4 in march, and i would just like to ask more about your guide post for ticketing, about buying through a proxy and bypassing jp phone number verification? how would that work?

Proxy

This is very regional-dependent: I just search for "japan proxy" on facebook (more reliable than instagram because old people website), check their history and look for "ticketing" in the description (filter those that only buy goods or just personal travellers with no on-site agents).

You give them the show's information and they'll give you a quotation. If you agree with the price, make a deposit and they'll proceed with the lottery and refund if it fails. Some companies take a service charge regardless if the lottery succeeds.

My proxy mentioned eplus's lottery ticket will have the buyer's name printed. The G-rosso I remember is not that strict with checking ids, so I'm not too worried. More after my visit.

You'll need a prxoy if you buy through eplus (= online ticketing sites) whether or not you're joining the lottery. I used a proxy that handled everything, but there's also proxies that only handle the phone verification part. You get to register an account with your own name.

Phone verification: Echoing other posts: You need to make a call to eplus's number. Other people suggested using an 050 IP Phone or buying a Japanese SIM card from Hanacell or Mobal. But IP phones might be banned and the SIM cards only work within Japan so I'm not sure how it works either...

Redeeming the ticket: Remind the proxy to choose "pick-up at convenience store" instead of delievery, either Family Mart or 7-11 is fine. Eplus will send you a redemption code via email two weeks before the show and you can print the ticket from the convenience store machine once you land in Japan.

edit: I just realize the whole exchange happened online unlike actual goods that need to be shipped, so maybe it's not as region-specific as I thought...

Experience with S3:

Lottery: You will only be considered for one showing and you have up to three choices. You can't pick the seats, so just pick out the date and time.

Pretty much everyone on my twitter tl (jp fans) failed the Premium round, but managed to score in the General round. We reckoned it was simply because there are just too few Premium seats (38 x 3 rows = 114 seats). Some General seats are still available as of today, except the first and final showing.

The consideration of whether you MUST need the first 3 rows or you're fine sitting a bit back in the first block: If Row A-C is a must, I'd choose a less popular date and time. Not the first or final showing and Satuday rather than Sunday. For S4, I'm kinda debating if I should even bother because of the odds would be even greater now the Jeramie fans are in the race too. Though, S4 has 16 days and S3 only 9 days. I could only speculate how eplus's lottery system works and there'd be different stats maths based on that with ticket types but i digress

twitter tickets: I don't see anyone reselling Premium seats in the first week, but listings from the general round showed up at an average rate. I am seeing S3's last weekend, so the general sale opens before my weekend's seating reveal, so I grab a ticket just to be safely seated more upfront than general sale. I am cheap and waiting for last-minute (and premium) resells after the redemption date and closer to the show.

same-day tickets: The website states there will be no same-day free-seating tickets. I suppose they mean there will be no discount, but if seats are available, you should be able to buy one from the convenience store or ask the staff. I'll confirm this on-site.

I have two posts about an Youtuber Stranger Things AU in my draft, but I kinda need to make this post first to give people some CONTEXT so here we are.

[They're aged up, so that the kids are 18 now]

- The Hellfire Club is formed of Eddie, Jeff, Gareth and Ben (because that's usually the name I use for the unnamed freak) ; four best friends who has been to school together and choose to live in the same house after graduating. They were initially doing that to keep the band together, but Ben and Jeff got into gaming + streaming in their free time and somehow they got Gareth and Eddie into it. By the time Among Us got popular they already had a strong fan base : both for their careers as streamers and musical artists who are recording shit from their house's basement. The name of their group is the same as the one of their DnD Club in high school.

- The Party is formed of Mike, Dustin, Will and Lucas. They started by playing Minecraft at 16 ; at first it was only clips on YouTube that the kids thought were funny and after they got a bit of attention they got into streaming.

- Steve Harrington is not a gamer. He streams the places he's traveling to ; it started as Steve wishing to share the experience with Robin and ended up with him streaming it so he wouldn't feel so alone while visiting the world. Everyone could tell he got happier once the kids got into his streams.

- Nancy Wheeler is also not a gamer. She makes videos on YouTube of criminal cases either solved or unsolved. Jonathan helps with the visuals of the video and the editing. Is a hobby more than anything for them. They only play Among Us from time to time, when the kids don't have enough players for a lobby (thought you might find Nancy playing scary games from time to time, thought she usually doesn't stream it ; you can see her in other's streams)

- Robin sometimes shows up in Steve's videos. Some still think they are dating despite Robin's big ass lesbian pin on her clothes.

They all meet via Among Us, when Eddie made a lobby with the Hellfire Club and invited the Party to their lobby because he thought they would get along. And they did. There were many disscussions online of them joining the Hellfire Club, but there were two criteria for joining : playing DnD (which the kids did and they were very excited to get to play with the Hellfire guys) and being metalheads (which neither of them was and only Mike gave any indication of liking that kind of music). Eddie commented during stream once that he would have liked for them to join, but the rules are the rules (which were made specially to stop Eddie from inviting his crushes in their group)

Little fun facts from the Among Us games :

× At the beginning Will used to cover for Mike A LOT during games. That's how the whole simping thing began.

× Mike is the worst impostor.

× One game Dustin got impostor five times in a row and won all the games (he got carried in two of them by Will and Jeff respectively, but a win is a win)

× The first time they played together, Eddie made sure to always kill Steve first. He thought it was funny and it was a little payment for stealing Dustin. It made Steve really sad and it was a big drama over it until Eddie discord called the dude and explained himself. Now they are simping for each other every game and everyone (loves) hates it.

× Nancy always got the impostors right, but she usually keeps quite useless asked for information as to not steal the fun of the game

× Jonathan is a really good impostor, which makes him the first suspect every game. God knows how many times they voted him off thinking he was playing them when he actually was chilling doing wires the whole game.

× You guys know that game were Sykkuno got impostor and Dream & Corpse simped for him? (Link here for visuals) That but it was Steve and Eddie simping for Dustin.

Ask Blog Idea

Okay, I don't know if anyone will care about this idea. But I am posting it in the hopes that maybe I can find people who will want to interact with my stupid ideas. I wanted to start an ask blog series thing called Last Defense. This is an idea that I want to turn into a manga or anime one day, and want people to interact with the characters so I can flesh them out. However... I cannot draw for crap. If this is to become an ask blog, it will be entirely text based. So, this is what I will do. I will leave brief descriptions of the five main characters of Last Defense below this paragraph. If you have questions, please ask them! Maybe eventually I can partner up with an artist that cares about the project and illustrate it! But if this not your forte, I completely understand. I simply desire to create, and not every creation will appeal to everyone.

Gideon - Youth Pastor Vampire Gideon has been on Earth since the fall of the Roman empire. He was never a mortal that became turned by a vampire. On the contrary, he was a rare birth of two vampire parents, which rarely happens. In the modern era, he joined a Christian Church and became a youth pastor, not necessarily believing in the religion, but simply enjoying the chance to interact with the youth of this generation and spread positivity.

Maya - Card Game Champion Maya is a 14 year old superstar, one of the top ranked players of the incredibly popular trading card game Sealed Champions. However, after a match, she was ambushed by a shady organization that wanted her to play in an underground competition for the chance of great rewards. She was granted a dueling apparatus that allowed her cards to exist in reality. She refused the match, but happily stole the machine.

Kiopotyl - Lazy Volcano Spirit Kiopotyl was born when Mount Horatius was born, a volcano located in South America. However, the volcano has never erupted despite it very much being active. This is because Kiopotyl just does not care. Erupting means moving, and heating up, and that's just a lot of work. Nah, they get sacrifices from the natives to keep from erupting, so there's no reason! Well, they did. Until colonizers came and ruined everything. Now, Kiopotyl is bored. And more than a little angry.

Harley - Sentient Motorcycle Harley was a custom made motorcycle, hand crafted by mechanic Megan. She rode Harley everywhere. To dates, to doctor's appointments, to work, to home. They even had a specially installed engine bought from the black market, found in some vessel in Nevada. However, one day, Harley was left in the desert, with Megan nowhere to be found. Which is when the engine, which was actually an alien power core, woke up and gave Harley sentience.

M'telotl - Last Whaler on the Moon M'telotl lived on Luna, also known as Earth's singular moon, during the age of the dinosaurs. They were of a race known as the Kytopes, and bred and hunted the many breeds of Lunar Whale. That is, until they were kidnapped by an enemy civilization, who crash landed into Earth, leaving M'telotl to freeze as the first Ice Age began. They woke up centuries later in modern times, being told that their species was wiped out so long ago that they weren't ever recorded in history books.

And that's the team! Five misfits tasked with saving the world from angels, androids, hostile aliens, and many other weird foes! My hopes is that I can one day make this into a cohesive show/book series. However, for now, I will attempt to make an ask blog about it. Send questions if you feel inclined!

I have a theory that is probably unpopular in the fandom but I feel safe posting it here. I think this era’s pre-hype has been so messy because Hayley is taking social media advice from the GDY team and other friends like Lindsey B and they just aren’t good at marketing. Obviously the record label is in charge of promotion but I think since Hayley isn’t on social media to hype people up, the record label demanded her participation in some way and this is her advice/contribution to them. In that Instagram live teaser you can hear her in the background say, “put it on the discord” and then the first song snippet appeared on there.

When it comes to the discord server, Reddit mods admitted that they were contacted just a week before the discord server link was made available via the website and were asked to hand over the already established discord handle to Paramore’s official team. That seems weird to me for such a big record label to scramble to lock in an album promotion’s social channels at the very last second. Some fans that are discord veterans have weighed in online to say that it is a poorly set up channel that had no thought put into it. I think that is pretty obvious by how fast it turned into chaos. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that Lindsey uses discord to promote her NFT’s and had Hayley join her in a server earlier this year. What major record label in 2022 would think that using discord to promote a new album was a solid marketing technique? When has this been used successfully with any other album promo? Not to mention so many Twitter fans have commented that they haven’t used discord in almost 5 years/it’s an outdated platform. I hope I’m way off base but this specific platform technique seems to me like Hayley is listening to a close friend about what is most popular for social media right now when that friend has no idea and might be trying to promote their own interests.

When it comes to the website being updated with that ‘cryptic’ list with the dates I feel like it’s trying to emulate artists that are have extremely effective strategic techniques for promotion and getting fans excited ala Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Unfortunately it’s executed so lazily or without a lot of thought that it is pretty hollow and is failing at keeping us engaged/excited. I’ve seen a few tweets from fans praising how cryptic the website is and crediting the GDY team like Becca (a self-professed Swiftie, btw) and those posts have been liked by members of the GDY team. I won’t go into how poorly I think GDY is marketed, but I will point out the TikTok that nobody noticed for two days until somebody from the paramore team posted it in the discord server. Who has had Hayley feature in multiple lackluster/cringy TikToks in the last few years and would advise her that that platform would be the best option to continue the ‘cryptic’ marketing but then not execute it successfully?

I have a lot more thoughts on this theory but I’ll end there because I don’t want to upset anyone with my opinion, but I definitely think it has been a bungled effort to get fans excited for new material from Paramore. I’ve followed every album rollout since Brand New Eyes and my partner is in marketing, and this album rollout is probably the most disappointing so far.

My 5-Star Review

The Killing Code is, incredibly, my first read by Ellie Marney. I know I have an older one of hers on my shelf, but haven’t read it yet (which I will be rectifying immediately!). I was thrilled to join this tour and see what all the buzz is about.

I love historical fiction books, and if you make it feminist *and* a murder mystery? I am so in! In this book we have “code girls,” the young women who worked night and day in the codebreaking brigade during the war, coupled with a series of gruesome murders of government girls that our intrepid group decide they must solve because the police are too blinded by their prejudices. The characters are all wonderfully drawn, and the romance is absolutely *chef’s kiss*. I had butterflies at the same time Kit and Moya did! There’s also loads of information on the actual codebreaking work the girls do, and it’s obvious a *ton* of research went into this book. Marney also addresses the racism, classism, and sexism of the era in America (which we all know isn’t just historical). I love the theme of found family, which is one of my favorite tropes, especially in YA. Top it off with some great mystery-solving techniques from Kit, Moya, Dottie, and Violet, and I can honestly say there is nothing I didn’t love about this book. I suspected I knew who the killer was, but I definitely wasn’t sure until right about when it was figured out, so that was a great ending for me!

I highly recommend The Killing Code to anyone who enjoys a great mystery and/or historical fiction. I really hope you’ll pick this up, and let me know what you think!

woollen_pharaohs’s AO3 rundown So i’ve hit the coveted 1 million wordcount marker on AO3 and on top of that it is coincidentally now over 10 years since i signed up with AO3! No better time to analyse the stats page and talk about my progress as a writer over the last decade.

I joined AO3 on 14th December 2012 and have published 115 works since then. Here are the main stats as of 1/1/23:

Word counts My longest fic, at 179,562 words is Salvation (A Discography), a Daredevil fic in which the characters assume dual roles as their Daredevil components as well as being musicians heavily based on the real lives of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club band members. It was an ambitous, lengthy work which remains unfinished to this day. It was also the first and only fic I’ve ever had beta read - thank you to wtchcool for all your hard work. The best advice i got from her was to keep chapters short which is something i definitely did not do for this fic, but have taken on board since.

The fandom i wrote the most words for, other than the Daredevil fandom which totalled 257,093 words laregely dominated by the sheer length of Salvation, was It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (IASIAP). I wrote a total of 11 fics for the fandom totalling 242,520 words, including a 2 part vampire epic. Written in a similar vein as Salvation, it was a crossover of the IASIP and Fargo (TV) worlds (because both shows starred the same actors) in an attempt to fill in gaps between both narratives and also because vampires are cool. Finishing Murmurations, at 193,299 words across 2.5 parts (.5 being a primer), was a massive personal feat for me. It proved to me that i could write a multi-chapter novel length fic and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. It gave me the courage to start writing my original novel not long after.

Hits The total amount of hits I have as of today are 201,896.

The popularity of Play Your Cards amuses me. I tried to do a 5+1 thing but couldn’t think up of enough pranks. Some of them are based on real things that happened to me and the rest on google lol. I am not too proud of the prose and am consistently surprised when i get kudos for this fic. One thing i did really enjoy about writing and posting this fic was the amount of support i was getting from the Daredevil fandom. It’s got to be one of the best fandoms i’ve ever written for.

Stillness in Time also cracks me up. I swear the hits must be as high as they are because of the fandom crossover is fucking bonkers. Literally don’t know what I was thinking. I definitely had not end in mind for that fic so it will remain a WIP forever. Sometimes i want to orphan this fic but it’s just too funny not to have attached to my username.

Two Sane Guys - genuinely proud of this fic. Likewise with Hearbeats. Kiss and Tell though? Don’t even fucken remember what that’s about.

Most prolific year I’ve published at least one fic every year since 2012 when I made my account. I also back-dated a fic i published on fanfic.net from 2009.

In 2017 I wrote a total of 25 fics for a total of 126,369 words. I wrote for 12 different fandoms, the most being 6 for IASIP and 5 for Letterkenny. 2017 was probably my best year for writing and creativity. Some of my favourite fics i have ever written are from 2017, such as:

Television Blues (As You Are (film)) - An alternative, happy ending to the film.

The Burning House (IASIP) - a short fic where Mrs Mac and Bonnie Kelly are kind of in love but also want to murder each other.

The Edge of The World Pt. 1 (Pond (band)) - I had just come back from a creative writing workshop at uni and poured all of my creative energy into this piece. I think it’s probably the best thing i’ve ever written though it probably doesn’t make any sense to non-australians.

2017 also saw me writing for a variety of rarepairs, rare fandoms, new kinks and was the year i started writing Murmurations. That being said, it’s also the year where i wrote a bunch of fics i can’t even remember. Like all those Letterkenny and Rhett & Link ones? Completely wiped from my brain. Looks like my writing but did I write it? who knows.

2022 follows closely having written 22 fics, 3 less than 2017 but with a slightly higher word count at a total of 129,420 words. During 2022 i was mostly writing music RPF and blutchest. I attribute this to being absolutely deranged.

Comments and Kudos The total number of comment threads I have are 658 with a total of 13,665 kudos!!! Amazing. Thank you for anyone who has ever commented/kudosed my fics. The most comments I have received is 71 on the first part of Murmurations, followed by 62 on the second part. I received 31 comments on Salvation and 28 on Play Your Cards. 14 of my 115 fics have not received a comment which is pretty good in the grand scheme of things.

That being said, I usually don’t pay attention to comment counts. I love getting comments don’t get me wrong but i don’t think comments or hits are a genuinely good representation as to whether my readers actually like the work. Kudos is probably the best way to gauge it.

Still amused that Play Your Cards is up there at number 1. Spin The Bottle i assume is up there because it was the first shippy matt/foggy fics to be posted to ao3 when the show was airing on netflix. It’s high kudos count i attribute primarily to thirst of readers at a time when the post-comics Daredevil fic content was a wasteland. People still seem to really like my Daredevil fics given i still get kudos notification emails about them. Maybe one day it will be another fandom.

Ship categories Looks like my most popular ship category was m/m, with a total of 86 works for that type of ship, followed by 15 for femslash.

The 2 ‘other’ are used specifically for Ragnarok (TV 2020) because one of the shipped characters is a shapeshifter, able to to shift between boy and girl and even have body parts of both at will. I thought that’s probably an appropriate reason to use the ‘other’ category for lol.

Bookmarks Readers have bookmarked my fics 1,511 times. I usually don’t care about bookmarks either because users can remove bookmarked works. It’s not a permanent stat like a hit or a kudos. What i do love are people who leave comments in the bookmark sections. I don’t mind that some of them are rude, they make me laugh. Here are a few of my favourites over time:

I got bored of going through all the bookmarks, i’m sure there’s more good nuggets in there. i think my favourite thing about bookmarks is sometimes users forget that it’s actually a publicly viewable feature unless they make it a private bookmark. it’s like a second way to get a comment and i love to see what people write when they think i can’t see it.

Fandom firsts One thing i enjoy is creating fandom tags by being the first person to post a fic to it (looks at the camera like in The Office). Tags i’ve created are usually for music RPF. Some i’m proud of starting include Soulwax/2manydjs (band), Pond (band), Raised By Wolves (TV), Key & Peele (TV), Kidding (TV), Intergalactic (TV). In temrs of ship firsts, I’ve written for a lot of rarepairs who have never been written about before and probably never will be again so no use tooting my horn about those lmao.

I used to also keep track of fandoms i had written for where my fic was the most popular in the fandom but usually in the case of Daredevil, IASIP or even Dirk Gently, a fic’s popularity was usually helped if the author had a strong tumblr following which i have never been able to achieve lol... nor do i really want for that matter given the insane shit i write. I’ll top the rare fandoms by default given nobody else writes for them lmao. easy award!

Fic titles sometimes i have originality okay? Very rarely. Exactly... 55 out of 115 fic titles have I thought of an original name for a fic, i.e. not a song title and not a direct quote from the fandom the fic is written for.

Conclusion Well, that’s it! it’s been fun to go through my stats page and see what’s been happening. I hope to one day see some of my other fics exceed the popularity of my current most popular fics but given i now tend to mostly write for fandoms of one, i don’t see that that will change in 10 years time lmao.

Where I’ve Been

So the short version of this; School! School school and more school! I’ve been rounding out my last semester and applying to Graduate school and applying for work at a lab, both of which I got accepted into! It’s all very exciting and honestly where most of my time has been lately. Admittedly when you fall off the horse it’s kinda hard to hop back on, but I promise that even if it’s just a paragraph at a time a lot of my stuff is being worked on. So then;

Now I’ll readily admit, this one kinda fell to the side. Once I started to get distracted with school and TwoSouls exploded the way it did, I shifted my gears somewhat. That said, I’ve finished re-reading what’s written thus far and going back over my original map, I remember more-less where I left off at and as soon as TwoSouls is finished this one will start seeing updates again! Also once I start Graduate School and get paid for the summer, I’m going to commission the heck out of art for the couples in this story and some other things, so that’s exciting plans for this!

Teaser!?

Now with the primary stories mentioned (my only other ongoing is Patch Pizza but... lord knows when or if I’ll get back to that!) I thought I’d mention two other sides things really quick that I have in the background!

First is another Bees story based on the series I have so far! The last story was One Night in Argus, and given the madness of V7 + V8 I think some bee happiness as a standalone outside of Atlesian Ball would be super fun (dancing with FNKY mayhaps?)

Secondly is a newer long-term story. It won’t be posted any time soon, unlike my other works I think for this story I’ll finish it and then post weekly, just depending, but it’s essentially a small retelling of the events of V4-V5. It’s core concept is Pyrrha surviving the Fall of Beacon, and having a sense of ‘Destiny’ and Survivor's Guilt with Blake, Pyrrha joins her on her mission to try and set things right and her eventual journey (Sun can come too of course). I’ve storyboarded it and have two chapters done already, but I can’t promise a release date any time soon. Still, look forward to it at some point!

There is an additional thing; based on my Cinder x Winter AU story (Cinder makes it to Atlas instead of killing her family...) the idea of building a world on their relationship and growing up together and doing a story for that. It’s definitely in my mind somewhere, but who knows! I’ve got enough to do as it is.

Future

I’ll definitely try and maintain more activity on tumblr moving forward as well. Definitely want to be more involved and all that jazz, but of course school and stuff always comes first. I’ll still make the effort though, for all... four? fans I have :)

The Realm Walker Timeline (Story Version)

I've been working on a timeline for my Zelda fic "The Realm Walker", which is set in BotW AU. This particular post is going to focus on backstory rather than events of the fic itself, and is written as if it were an in-universe book. Mostly this is focusing on what was going on in Hyrule in the immediate aftermath of the Calamity and the years before Link ever woke from his little nap. Some of this will be talked about in an upcoming chapter of "Shifting Tides of Fate" but there's nothing too spoilery here. However it is rather long and will be below a cut.

I've divided Hyrule's history into five Ages/Eras based on names pulled from the Zeldapedia and stuff I made up. These are The Era of Myth, Golden Age of Prosperity, Era of Prosperity, Age of Burning Fields, and Era of Rejuvenation. Now the first two are so far in the past there's no point trying to date things, Era of Prosperity would be EP and covers the events before the Great Calamity, I could date things later but haven't yet. Age of Burning Fields is ABF and Era of Rejuvenation is ER.

Overview

The history of Hyrule is long, bloody, and complicated. No one knows for sure how long this land has existed, and separating fact from fiction is quite difficult. From what little we know of the distant past, we can divide Hyrule’s history into five distinct time periods.

The Era of Myth

The Era of Myth refers to the time period in which the Tales of the Hero take place. Each of these tales tell of a Hero and Goddess Blooded Princess who time and time again rise to face the King of Evil, Ganon. Each tale is named after its hero, for example, the Tale of the Hero of Winds is one of the most popular and speaks of a hero who sailed a Great Sea using a magical conductor’s baton to control the wind. Granted, all of this happened so long ago that it is nearly impossible to tell exactly when it was. Separating history from myth in the Tales is also a futile effort at this point.

What we do know is that this time period ends with an event known as The First Calamity. Like countless times before, Ganon rose to threaten Hyrule once again. However, this time he was considerably more powerful than at any time before. The Hero and Goddess Blooded Princess rallied the forces of Hyrule in a desperate battle against Ganon. Just as all seemed lost, armies from the three neighboring kingdoms of Holoryna. Yosun, and Xilipi (Sy-lie-pie) joined the fray. With an opening created, the Hero of the First Calamity and Princess managed to seal away Ganon at the cost of their lives.

In the aftermath of this terrible battle, the nations of the world united to find a way to stop Ganon the next time he returned. Of course, we have no way of confirming if these neighboring kingdoms exist. Holoryna is said to lie to Hyrule’s north while Yosun is northwest. The Great Scar Canyon that separates Hyrule from the towering Empira Range beyond prevents anyone from traveling to these kingdoms by land. Likewise, they cannot be reached by sea due to strong winds and currents preventing ships from sailing much farther north than Lomei Labyrinth Island or further east than Gerudo Bay.

Xilipi is said to be to Hyrule’s west, past the Gerudo Desert. Fierce sandstorms prevent anyone from attempting to search for this nation. They say Gerudo Bay is just to the east of Xilipi’s borders, but no one has managed to sail past Gerudo Bay and return.

The Golden Age of Prosperity

With the nations of the known world united behind the common purpose of preventing another Calamity from occurring, the time period known as the Golden Age of Prosperity began. The Sheikah Tribe developed miraculous technology that improved the lives of the people. For example, this technology was combined with the Zora’s expert stonemasonry to build the massive Rutala Dam in a single year. This dam effectively controlled water levels in the Lanayru Region to end the catastrophic floods that would otherwise occur every ten years. The Rutala Dam stands to this day as a symbol of cooperation between the peoples of Hyrule.

The Sheikah Tribe’s technology was also used to produce terrifying weapons, the Guardians and Divine Beasts. It would be these weapons that would stop Ganon’s onslaught the next time he returned. We don’t know how long the Golden Age of Prosperity lasted, but we do know that it ended 10,000 years ago. What little that has survived indicated that the Guardians and Divine Beasts were able to stop Ganon, but were so effective at their task that the people grew to fear them. The King of Hyrule at the time, who’s name has been lost to history unfortunately, ordered the Sheikah Tribe’s technology buried.

Not only did Holoryna, Yosun, and Xilipi cut ties with Hyrule after this, but the Gerudo, Gorons, Rito, and even the Zora began to cut ties with the Hylian Royal Family. Fear of the Sheikah Tribe’s technology was so great that people began to fear the Sheikah themselves and the resulting persecution resulted in the formation of a militant splinter group. This group would eventually be known as the Yiga Clan, which still plagues Hyrule to the modern day. Most historical texts have been damaged, not just by time, but by fire or water. It is suspected that the early Yiga Clan made considerable effort to destroy as much of Hyrule’s early history as possible.

Eventually, relations between the Hylian Royal Family and the other peoples of Hyrule began to normalize and the Era of Prosperity began.

The Era of Prosperity

With most of the scars healed, Hyrule knew a long age of peace. However, the specter of Calamity Ganon loomed large on the horizon. By this time the Tales of the Hero were regarded as little more than myth, bedtime stories for children or inspiration for soldiers and adventurers to do great deeds. A fortune teller told King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule that Calamity Ganon’s turn was nigh. King Rhoam established the Ancient Research Institute with a pair of genius Sheikah researchers named Purah and Robbie as its leaders. The Institute was ordered to begin searching for the lost Ancient Sheikah tech, and it wasn’t long before they began unearthing relics from the Golden Age of Prosperity.

The Institute established the Royal Ancient Tech Lab in North Hyrule Plain, near the Ridgelands. This location was chosen as it was close enough to Hyrule Castle to allow for short supply lines, but also far enough away from any major population center that there would be time to evacuate if something went wrong.

Meanwhile, the son of a skilled knight, while lost in the woods, stumbled upon the legendary Master Sword, the blade of evil’s bane itself! Somehow this youth had been chosen by sword that seals the darkness to defend Hyrule from evil! Given the fact that this youth showed surprising skill with a blade, his father was a high ranking knight, and that he was chosen by a legendary sword quickly lead to him joining the Hyrulean Army.

Eventually the Divine Beasts themselves were unearthed. Pilots were chosen for these massive weapons, Chief Urbosa of the Gerudo for Vah Naboris, Lord Daruk of the Gorons for Vah Rudaina, Master Revali of the Rito for Vah Medoh, and Princess Mipha of the Zora for Vah Ruta. Along with the wielder of the Master Sword, they were named Champions. All the pieces were in place, except for one. Princess Zelda’s sacred sealing power still slumbered.

On Princess Zelda’s 17th birthday, she made the pilgrimage to Mt. Lanayru to pray at the Spring of Wisdom. Late in the afternoon, Calamity Ganon returned at the very heart of Hyrule, the castle itself. Somehow, it seized control of the Guardians and razed everything in his path. The Champions were slain one by one and the Divine Beasts seized by the Calamity. Eventually each beast wandered outside of Hyrule. Vah Naboris was last seen heading west into the wastes of the desert, Vah Rudaina was last spotted at Crenel Peak heading north toward the Great Hyrule Forest, Vah Medoh was last spotted heading northwest of Tabantha Village, and Vah Ruta was last seen walking in circles at Samasa Plain.

As the Great Hyrule Forest is still standing, it remains a mystery as to where Vah Rudania went. Since Vah Ruta is no longer at Samasa Plain, one can only assume that it eventually headed out to sea. Why the Divine Beasts fled Hyrule is a mystery to this day. Perhaps the Champion’s spirits remain in this world and directed their Beasts to flee to avoid causing any further devastation to Hyrule? Or perhaps Calamity Ganon sought to use them against the legendary neighboring kingdoms that opposed him so long ago?

The legends say that Calamity Ganon seeks to destroy the world; however, clearly that didn’t happen or you wouldn’t be reading this... Reports from the Sheikah of Kakariko Village state that eventually the Malice swirling about the Castle faded, this coincides with reports from across Hyrule that the Guardians simply stopped in their tracks. Perhaps the Goddess Hylia intervened?

Whatever transpired, the Era of Prosperity was over, and a new dark age descended upon Hyrule.

Age of Burning Fields

The first 23 years after what would become known as the Great Calamity, was named the Age of Burning Fields. The term was originally coined by the survivors of the Great Calamity who settled in Necluda. While the worst of the suffering in this region only lasted three years, Director Purah of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab decided to use the term to encompass all of the troubles Hyrule faced during these trying times.

Central Hyrule was completely and utterly destroyed by legions of Guardians. As most of the Hylian population resided in this area, it is clear that the Hylians suffered the most casualties. That said, Guardians made it as far as Blatchery Plain, the Gerudo Desert, the Maw of Death Mountain, and even Tabantha Village. The Guardians marching to Goron City were luckily buried by lava flows from the erupting volcano. A hero somehow managed to stop the Guardians advance at Fort Hateno. The Rito were able to stop the Guardian that assaulted Tabantha Village and covered the evacuation of the town, however what was left was quickly obliterated by the monster hordes that followed. As for the Guardians that made it into the Gerudo Desert, they apparently got lost in the sandstorms and ended up in uninhabited regions.

At Blatchery Plain, the region where the Guardians fell became known as Ash Swamp, as the oil leaking from them poisoned the land for many years. Most of the suffering in Necluda was a result of ashfall from Death Mountain’s eruptions and the fires burning in Central Hyrule poisoning the soil and blocking out the sun. Winters were much harsher than normal for nearly seven years after the Great Calamity.

In Kakariko Village, an abandoned well was converted into a small farm. This protected the crops from the ash and snow and provided clean soil and warm enough temperatures for the crops to grow. This keep the village going, but was unfortunately not enough to share with anyone else. Vah Rudania had been positioned on the Pillars of Levia south of Kakariko Village before the Great Calamity. It was here that Lord Daruk fought his final battle, and as Vah Rudania marched northward, it created rockslides that blocked the road to Sahasra Slope, cutting the village off from Lanayru.

Hateno Village resorted to foraging for food for most of the three years. Eventually, the skies cleared and soil recovered enough for large scale planting and harvesting. To this day in Necluda harvest festivals are major celebrations.

In Eldin, the roads were nearly impassible for a decade due to the lava flows from Death Mountain. Akkala Citadel held out long enough for most of the region to be evacuated by sea. The survivors ended up in Hateno and Lurelin Villages. Speaking of Lurelin Village, it was the only settlement in Faron to survive. Though in Faron most of the devastation was the result of rampaging monster hordes, both on land and by sea. Some monsters had managed to commandeer ships, they began to raid any ships traveling between Hateno and Lurelin, cutting the two villages off from one another.

Hebra and Tabantha were spared most of the devastation; however, a different kind of turmoil found its way to these lands. Most of the Rito had fled towards Torikirika (Toe-re-key-re-ka), or Rito Village as it’s more commonly known, or other nearby settlements to escape the legions of Guardians and hordes of monsters that swept across Hyrule all the way to the Ridgelands. Many feared that the geographic isolation of Hebra and Tabantha would not be enough to keep them safe, and so they decided to flee Hyrule all together.

As you know, Hyrule is bordered on the north and west by the Great Scar Canyon, a massive rend in the earth. What you may not know, is that strong winds blow towards Hyrule in the spring and summer and reverse in the fall and winter. The Rito braved these winds to settle on a relic of the Golden Age of Prosperity, Takandi Village. Situated directly west of Dragon Bone Mire, Takandi Village is built into the cliffsides and was apparently originally established by the Rito and Gorons to mine resources that were used to build much of the Ancient Sheikah technology. The preexisting structures allowed the village to easily expand and the population grew rapidly.

Of course, those seeking safety were not the only ones who fled Hyrule. A great many Rito blamed the Hylian Royal Family for the death of their honored Champion, Master Revali, as well as the Great Calamity as a whole. Wishing to cut ties with Hylians in particular, they too fled for Takandi Village. This event would become known as the Great Migration.

Eventually more settlements were built along the cliffsides of the western side of Great Scar Canyon. The Rito had cliffside settlements on the eastern flank of the Great Scar Canyon beforehand and a few more were built in the years after the Great Calamity. Rito couriers were able to navigate the fierce winds in the canyon, which allowed the Rito settlements to keep in touch with one another. However, political and ideological differences emerged forming a schism amongst the Rito. Each village governed itself as its Elder chose, and while Chieftain Korli in Torikirika retained his title, it had lost all meaning. He died 20 years after the Great Calamity, never living to see the end of the Age of Burning Fields. The Rito have not had a Chieftain since and like Hylians, remain a broken civilization.

Era of Rejuvenation

Eventually Central Hyrule burned itself out, monster hordes dispersed, the roads through Eldin and Akkala were cleared, plants began to regrow, and wildlife returned. After 23 long years, the Age of Burning Fields was over and a new chapter in Hyrule’s history began. The Era of Rejuvenation.

In the aftermath of the Great Calamity, many Hylians became nomads. Some of these nomads would eventually establish outposts. Over time these outposts became known as Stables and they banded together to form the Stable Association, headquartered in Hateno Village.

Dueling Peaks Stable, Lakeside Stable, Highland Stable, Foothill Stable, Wetland Stable, and Woodland Stable were the first to be established. With Central Hyrule having finally recovered, Riverside Stable was the next to be built, followed quickly by Outskirt Stable. Meanwhile Foothill Stable branched out into Akkala building South Akkala Stable. Curiously there was already an outpost in Akkala, near an abandoned lighthouse that had been taken over by a strange Sheikah man. Robbie of the Ancient Research Institute had survived the Great Calamity as well and had established a new research base here. The local nomads had set up an outpost near his base of operations, named the Akkala Ancient Research Lab. This outpost joined the Stable Association as the East Akkala Stable.

Likewise, in Gerudo Canyon and Salari Plain, two other preexisting nomad outposts that had been cut off from the rest of Hyrule joined the Stable Association. These became Gerudo Canyon Stable and Serenne Stable respectively. Eventually Tabantha Bridge Stable was built, followed shortly by Snowfield Stable.

It was at Snowfield Stable that the Rito and Hylian peoples would finally cross paths again after decades of isolation. While there were tensions at first, First Warrior Kaneli of the Rito was able to smooth things over. He personally pledged to help keep the Stable safe from the monsters that roamed the Tabantha Snowfields. Trade resumed between the Rito and Hylians once again, and after Kaneli became Elder, Rito Stable was built.

As with the Age of Burning Fields, the current time period was named by Director Purah of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. When interviewed, she said she originally wanted to call it “Era of the Wilds” but decided that didn’t have the right feel and wanted something more positive, eventually settling on Era of Rejuvenation to mark Hyrule’s recovery from the disaster of the Great Calamity.

While things have been mostly peaceful the last 77 years, there are a number of worrying developments as of late. Monsters seem to be increasing in number and attacks are on the rise. Strange mist surrounds the ruins of Hyrule Castle. Once quiet, the Guardians have become active once again! Fortunately, their numbers are few and the scarcely seen mobile ones seem to stick to a limited area, as if they were patrolling it. Of course, the most disturbing change is in the last few weeks is that the Divine Beasts have returned! They say Vah Naboris stalks the desert sands, slowly making its way to the East Barrens, creating sandstorms and striking anyone who approaches with deadly lightning! Vah Rudiana lurks across the summit of Death Mountain, causing it to erupt once again. Vah Medoh circles Torikirika, shrieking sorrowfully (or so the Rito say), and firing on anyone who dare approaches. Apparently, Vah Ruta was causing endless rainfall in Zora’s Domain, but now that seems to have stopped and it’s just sitting atop the Lanayru Great Spring, focusing a red light towards the Castle.

Is Calamity Ganon planning a return? Has a new hero risen to face him? How will he face the Calamity with no Goddess Blooded Princess to seal it? Only time will tell…

To find an item, take a picture of yourself AND a physical note reading 'YOURNAME - YOURTRIBE" with the item and upload it to a file sharing site. I don't care what site you use as long as you make sure I have permission to view it. Then, upload the link to the photo to the corresponding column. MAKE SURE I HAVE ACCESS.

Send a selfie holding the note you'll be using to your host chat ASAP; it must be sent to me before you upload any pictures.

I will periodically check your links to award points or let you know that you need to replace them. Once you've locked in your sheet, you will not be able to replace links anymore. Don't touch my scoring column or you will be smote.

If both tribes finish their entire sheet, the winner will be the tribe that finished first, so please alert me once you've found all of the items.

The group that wins will win this section for their tribe.

3-2-1 - TWO PEOPLE

Two people from each tribe will pair up and play a short, fun game live on call, to be scheduled with me. Please only volunteer for this section if you're able to join an audio call with a good internet connection.

The game will be described on the call, but it's very easy and shouldn't take more than a few minutes. The calls will be recorded and shared on the results post.

The pair that wins will win this section for their tribe.

PRO GAMERS - THREE PEOPLE

Three people from each tribe will grind on a few of my favorite old games, trying to get the highest scores possible in all of them. Your scores for each game will be averaged together (i.e. your score and your partner's added, then divided in three) and then compared to the other pair's. Whichever group wins at least two out of three will win this section for their tribe.

To submit for this challenge, send a screenshot of your final score (you may only submit for each game once) with your name and your tribe name written in the URL bar with the date and time visible in the screenshot.

HERO TRIVIA - ONE PERSON

One person from each tribe will face the other on a live call focusing on Survivor (U.S.) trivia. It's not easy trivia.

The game will last at most half an hour. Once you've volunteered, I will create a group chat where we will find a time for the call. The call will be recorded and shared on the results post.

The person who correctly answers the most questions will win this section for their tribe.

POPULARITY CONTEST - ONE PERSON

One person from each tribe will be trying to get as many votes from people outside of the game as possible for them to win. Votes will be cast through a Google form that I will send to each of you privately. Get people to fill them out by whatever means you want except those below.

Your tribemates may not help you in any way. You may not pay people or offer other prizes for voting. You may not use bots.

The person who gets the most votes by the deadline will win this section for their tribe.

All elements of the challenge are due by 9PM EST on Sunday, August 13.
