Summary: the fruity four + you take on halloween dressed as everyone’s favorite mystery solving gang

A/N: was just watching scooby doo(2002) and had a stroke of genius + all the fanart i’ve seen floating around since season 4 dropped. anyways here is a short little halloween fic of the fruity four hehe. enjoy! :) -sava

“You’re lucky I like Halloween sweetheart, because green is never my go-to color,” Eddie Munson tells you, stretching out the neckline of his green v-neck shirt as you walk up the paved path together. You playfully swat at him, giggling at his behavior as you ring the doorbell to Steve Harrington’s house. You scrunch your itchy nose, not wanting to smear the painted snout that lies there as you wait at the door, Eddie wrapping an arm around your torso and pulling you closer to him.

“Rut ro,” you say, stumbling as you grip onto his chest. He laughs, placing a kiss on your head as he takes a step back, taking in your outfit again from head to do. You had on peanut colored pants that came with a matching top, a few black spots scattered about appropriately along with a teal collar that had a pendant hanging off reading the letters “SD”. You found black boots to match and tied the outfit together with a fake tail and a headband resting in your hair that had dog ears attached, satisfied with your costume for the year. Eddie smirks to himself, bringing you closer once more.

“I will say, you're still as smokin' as ever. Even if you're dressed like a dog for the night,” he lets out, making you double over in laughter. Your lovely boyfriend had a habit of making jokes out of literally any and every thing, even if it came out kind of wrong without intending it to. It wasn't something you minded, however. You thought the way he took a minute to process the words he spoke just seconds earlier was funny, watching the gears in his head work as it becomes apparent in his brain.

“Please don’t go around saying that tonight, Eds. People will get the wrong idea,” you tell him, standing straight and patting him on the shoulder. Before he’s able to make a smart ass remark, the door opens and the two of you are greeted by Steve dressed head to toe in his Fred costume. You smirk, hearing Eddie’s snickers as you try not to laugh at the ridiculous wig situated on his head. Part of you was surprised to even be seeing the wig, but you all had a lot on the line on this Halloween night, so it was serious to everyone. Well...except Eddie.

Eddie begins walking inside the house, holding your hand and guiding you inside as the two of you let the giggles fly out, snickering as you both sit on the couch. Coming over to Steve’s house was always nice. His parents were rarely in Hawkins, so it’s slowly became the go to spot for your group of friends to meet up, leaving the Wheeler’s basement to the younger kids and sometimes the destination when you older kids agreed to spending time with the youngsters. It was also nice giving the company to Steve as you could tell he desperately craved it. He may act like he hates everyone, annoyed at your boyfriend's antics and the silly little things the younger kids do, but you know he loves everyone.

Steve slams the door shut, shaking his head at the both of you. “Nancy better be lucky I love her because if this,” he gestures between you and Eddie exaggeratedly, “-is gonna happen all night? I won't be letting her live it down.”

“Oh come on Stevie, you know you love us,” you tell him, flashing him a big smile from your place on the couch. He rolls his eyes and walks into the kitchen, grabbing a beer from the fridge and chugging it halfway down. You watch a small smile stretch onto his face, shaking his head as he looks up to see Nancy appear around the corner from the downstairs bathroom, flattening the ends of her purple dress as she walks into the kitchen with Steve, the heels of her go-go boots thudding along the kitchen tile.

You scoot over to sit on Eddie's lap, his arms welcoming you and trying his best to pull you closer into him as you nuzzle into his neck, careful to not ruin the fake goatee on his face while simultaneously being conscious of the paint that makes up your snout. You were going to be really pissed if any of the details you helped perfect got ruined before you all even arrived at the party.

“You two do realize that people are going think you guys are trying to say that Shaggy and Scooby are a couple, right?” Robin asks, walking down the stairs as she stretches out her turtleneck a little, which reminds you of what Eddie was doing just moments before. As she joins you on the couch, you notice she’s swapped out Velma’s usual skirt for some pants, giving it a Robin twist, which you actually really thought was clever.

“And to think I was about to compliment your costume," you playfully scoff. “First of all, neither of us think that Shaggy and Scooby are a couple, I don’t know why you’d say that. Secondly, Shaggy and Scooby are an iconic duo who have like, the best friendship in the history of friendships. Eddie and I are just like that, except we’re also dating one another. That’s the only difference.”

“I definitely wouldn’t say that is the only difference, but everything else I agree with,” Eddie teases, earning a playful smack on the arm from you, to which he just laughs and rests his head on your shoulder.

“Well, I for one think you guys look cute,” Nancy says from the kitchen, taking Steve’s hand as they both join the three of you in the living room. “I really think we have a shot at winning the costume contest this year. All the details that we have down, the accuracy. I'm very confident you guys.”

Everyone agrees, Eddie cheering loudly and causing Steve to jump. He rolls his eyes yet again, earning a disapproving look from Nancy before she turns to him to fix the ascot situated around his neck. You start laughing to yourself again, turning your attention away from them quickly when Steve flicks his eyes over at you. You take Eddie’s hand and lace your fingers together, smiling at him as he traces random designs into the back of your hand with his thumb.

“You guys think we can get a picture? I’ve been toying with the self timer and think it might work out,” Nancy suggests. Everyone nods and makes quick work of walking towards Steve’s fireplace, the lighting and setting perfect for a photo. Luckily for everyone, Nancy had been practicing earlier in the day and the camera was still set up, mounted to the stand in all its glory. You and Eddie scoot together, you taking the end side as Eddie squeezes close to Robin, who was already standing next to Steve.

“You guys think I should take the wig off?”

“And ruin the costume? I don’t think so. It’ll literally be one of the winning factors for the contest Harrington,” Eddie answers quickly.

“You’re one to talk, Munson. You aren’t even wearing the wig that came with your costume!” Steve exclaims. You find yourself giggling at the boys silly little fight, Robin joining in with you as well.

“Me? Robin and Scooby here aren’t wearing wigs either, why’d you have to single me out?” Eddie questions.

“I mean, luckily for me, my hair works for my costume. So I technically have a pass, right?” Robin rebuttals.

“Exactly! And you don’t really need a wig to be a dog, so I’m in the clear too on this…wig situation,” you say, gesturing between the two bickering boys.

Eddie turns to you, mouth agape as part of his playfully shocked reaction. He holds his hands up to his heart, feigning injury as you just shake your head. His antics earn a giggle from both Nancy and Robin, but you just stand there and smirk at him devilishly.

“You wound me sweetheart. How could you? You’e supposed to be on my side and help me win this argument. I mean, you love my luscious mane!” He exclaims.

“As much as I do love your ‘luscious mane’, I think you would’ve totally rocked the Shaggy wig! It would have been very metal and like...really hot,” you tell him, the last part of your sentence coming out in a lower, sultrier tone. He wiggles his eyebrows at you, shimmying over to you in a suggestive dance as you beginning to get closer to him.

“Okay love birds, I really don’t feel like spewing all over my costume,” Steve grumbles out, making a fake barf sound. Robin flashes him a look, eyebrows twisted in confusion at his sour attitude.

“You say all this now, but two drinks from now you’ll be all over Nancy. You won’t be able to keep your hands off her when she drags you onto the dance floor in a little bit.”

“Like you aren’t gonna go running to Vickie the minute we get to the party,” Nancy joins in, making everyone but Robin giggle before she returns her focus back to the camera. Robin’s face turns bright red, struggling to find the words to try and deny the accusation as she rambles. Her hands fly to her hair, toying with a strand as she continues to try and speak about her newest crush.

Nancy finishes getting the camera set up, shushing you all as she slots herself by Steve on the other end of your group. You wrap an arm around Eddie’s slender waist, hugging him close as he returns the gesture. The five of you look to the camera, lips twisted into bright smiles as you wait for the shutter to click.

The flash lights up the living room, temporarily making your vision turn a blueish green color, spots littered around as you try to see clearly. Everyone breaks away from one another except Eddie, who wraps his other hand around your waist and pulls you closer to him. You laugh, a hand going out to rest on his chest to keep yourself from tumbling over. He presses a kiss to your cheek before trailing it down to your neck, not bothering to listen to the other members of your group groan at the sudden abundance of PDA he was throwing your way.

“Alright lovebirds, we better get going. Especially if Robin here is gonna see her lover and not be a fifth wheel any longer,” Nancy teases, grabbing her car keys as Robin all but chases her out the door. Steve follows the two, while you hang back for a moment due to Eddie’s grip on your arm, keeping you both in the living room instead of venturing out with your friends. You turn to him and give him a puzzled look, searching his face for any sense of uncomfort or distress. He presses another kiss to your cheek, taking your hand in his.

“Just wanted to remind you that I love you, even if you’re a dog for the night,” he says, smirking at you as he leads you out of Steve’s house. You laugh, walking with him into the cool breeze that was brought to Hawkins this Halloween night.

“I love you too. You’re my favorite little pothead, you know that right? Both in and out of costume, of course,” you reply, stopping your movements to give him a kiss on the cheek this time.

“I seriously don’t know how you guys manage to be really cute and really disgusting all at the same time,” Steve sighs, twisting the key in the lock as he shuts the door and walks with you and your boyfriend to Nancy’s car, climbing inside and cranking up the sound to the spookiest mixtape Robin has ever made.

Confession: Buckle up, this may be a long one.

I've had the same fictional character appearing in my dreams from time to time for the past 5 years.

It all started when I saw a piece of fanart back in my days on DeviantArt around...2017-2018. I thought the character looked cool, but didn't check out what the series he was from was. I did, however, come to the conclusion, just by his vibes alone, that I would like him if I got into whatever he was from.

A while later, that image basically forgotten by now, I tuned into a stream where an artist I follow was doing a poster design for something. In the middle of the poster design...it was him again. I remembered the picture I saw on DA and my interest had been sparked again. Turns out he wasn't from an anime, as I had first assumed, but instead, a Japanese video game.

I then found out the games were on Steam and ended up getting the first two. However, this character was from the 2nd game, so I had to wait until I was finished with the first game to really figure out what he was like, and if my initial reaction would end up being true.

During the time it took me to finish the first game, I had found someone who made some meme videos using the character sprites from the series. There were a few I watched with that specific character in it, so I finally saw what he actually looks like in game.

And then, it started.

Not long after I began to have dreams about this guy. He rarely ever spoke to me, mainly just following me and listening to (or putting up with) me rambling to him about who-knows-what.

I eventually got to the 2nd game and found out...I was right about thinking I would like him. Very right. He ended up being my favorite character in the series.

During my first play-through of the game, something weird happened. After talking with him, I had to talk with someone else to progress the plot, however, not long into that conversation with the other character, the game crashed. Then, I got a notification from Steam.

You have 1 new item in your inventory.

I opened Steam to check it out. It was a card. It was a card with that character I like on it. This is the 2nd one I had gotten. I usually don't keep duplicates, but in this case, I wanted to keep it.

Anyway, I still continued to have dreams about him. Most of the dreams, he was silent and never really acknowledged me much. Though, there were a few where he would talk to me some, and there were even some where we were friends. There were also two specific occasions in dreams where he smiled at me, which I remember very fondly.

At some point throughout all this, I ended up getting a crush on him, which I still have to this day. My guess is, it happened sometime after I finished the game, though I don't exactly remember.

So, my confession? I ended up getting into a game series entirely because I saw a guy I thought looked interesting, and I ended up getting a crush in him. I also ended up having him haunt my dreams for 5 years. That should be it, right?

No.

Not too long before, I began to see the number 107 all over the place. It started with an order ticket number at McDonald's as well as a license plate in the parking lot and ended up being a number I'd see a lot on the clock. But it turned into much, much more. In a very weird way.

I began to notice a lot of things I like were connected to 107 in some way. The release date of my favorite anime, the birthday of one of my friends, the amount of pages in a comic I had been following...

There had to be some connection to this guy with that number as well, right?

Well, I began to look around, see if there was anything and...nothing. I didn't find anything...until one day.

I was sitting in my living room, alone, thinking, and a crazy idea popped into my head: Birthday.

So, I opened a calendar picture in MS Paint, circled my birthday and the birthday of this character. I then counted the amount of days inbetween our birthdays (not counting the days themselves).

107 days.

I had found it. And it had driven me MAD. I feel like Charlie from the Pepe Silvia meme. I feel like I have enough material to make a conspiracy about SOMETHING but I don't know WHAT.

And your question, that I bet you've had since the beginning of this ramble, "Who is this character?"

His name is Gundham Tanaka from the murder mystery series Danganronpa. This man single-handedly pulled me into a series I both love and hate as well as kick-off my slow decent into madness over a single number that I can't just call a coincidence anymore after THAT. I love this man, and that is not an understatement. I hope he shows up again in another one of my dreams soon. It's been a while.

I hope you enjoyed this relatively normal ramble that slowly got more and more whack as it went on.

Hiii! Just like the last person, i also started with the live action and then found your fanfics and ah! Im the one that commented on almost all your work djdj and told you i read it on my lunch break and the train! Thank god i speak spanish so people wouldn't read what was on my phone sbdbbd and yeah, thank god i was also wearing a mask on the train so no one would see me giggling like and idiot. 7. It depends? Like sometimes a story will just be one POV--like Covet is pretty much Fili, and I'll often take Dick's POV over Jason's in a DC fic, but usually it's like whose eyes do I most want to be on in this fic/scene? I have definitely started leaning toward whole fics in one POV but I will still switch if it works for the story (for example, needing to know scenes about which one character cannot know about). I would have previously said I would switch POVs more in long fics but Mahanon sorta shot that right out of the water. I enjoy the challenge of a limited POV fic sometimes, because you really are stuck with this one dude for what's now 500k and thus as limited in knowledge as he is. But it's rarely something I think like, that much about.

9. I am once again trying to get better lol. It's all about seasons of our lives, right? I used to try and go through fics that didn't have a bunch of comments and comment on them in the smaller fandoms/ships I was in, but then I stopped reading fic for a very long time, and now that I'm more regularly reading again, it's like flexing a muscle to comment again.

But it is an effort, one I think more people need to start accepting again. Writing is really hard work, it deserves some acknowledgement.

12. Like. I will write some wild things, and I don't need a LOT of feedback persay, but if something is getting no acknowledgement at all and another fandom is doing their best to feed me... receiving/not receiving feedback WILL impact my desire to work on a fic. It can be one or two dedicated as fuck readers who get me through a whole story, or it might be a whole swarm of them, but if I get dead silence, I have less like ability to push through the bad times (which always come in any multi chapter fic) and keep going. It hurts the motivation to get silence for sure.

16. So many. So many. As always so many.

I've got usually a whole stack of fics waiting for me to care about them/have the time which I never do. In Dragon Age I've got a pirate AU (Just, Cassandra ranting every 30 seconds about the fact they declared her a pirate but when someone offers her a pardon if she turns Mahanon in she tosses them over the side of the ship like well anyway) a whole Regency Era AU with strong vibes of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, and a very strange fake dating college au that may involve Fae.

Tolkien wise I've got some fics I promised people that I never wrote, an elf time loop one (which apparently is becoming a really popular idea in the Silm fandom on tumblr haha but I've been nursing this damn one for ages), that Anastasia-ish Hobbit story, a Regency Era AU for them too (but specifically Emma) and a story I've turned around for literally years now where Thorin died before the quest so Fili becomes king in exile and pretty much laughs Gandalf out of the room when he tries to convince him to reclaim Erebor (he's got a LOT to deal with emotionally okay, he's not got time for that) so they have to go and like try and kill Smaug in the middle of the War of the Ring instead.

And those are just the ones off the top of my head.

17. I think the most important thing as a writer is give yourself some grace. I try and write every week, but like I went on a trip and then I've been too exhausted since I got back, so it's been 2 weeks now with no writing for me. And frankly, I'm still feeling really wiped out so it's more like, if you're not feeling it, it's okay to take a break. Drink some tea, read a book, let it all peculate in the back of your head for a while. Try to do some things that inspire you, like for me it's reading history, or taking walks outside or going to museums, basically just learning new things. See some friends. Spend time with people. And then come back and see if that all triggered something. We forget writers block is often a systematic issue, like we're too tired or burned out or whatever, and it's about reinvigorating your creativity. And understanding and giving yourself the time. And if you're just exhausted by life well, unfortunately, maybe it's about trying to make those bigger changes, or accepting this will be a period where you plant some clover on the field of your creativity and let it lay fallow for a season or two. It will be there when you're ready again.

20. I mean, over the years I've written some wildly different things but yes, hahaha, very much yes. My favorite conflict is duty vs desire, I'm a sucker for loyalty, I'm a sucker for little shits that just don't stop, I'm a fan of knock-down, drag out street fighters, and if you leave me alone long enough, I will manifest a revolution into basically any setting. I like characters who are competent and don't give up, but who are human and make mistakes and fuck things up and keep going anyway, despite the fuck ups and danger and road blocks in front of them. I like when people feel things very deeply, but maybe aren't very good at talking about it or dealing with it, but always know they loved first and foremost, but sometimes it wasn't enough, and sometimes they did terrible things for it. I like imbuing the every day with intense feelings, be that ships or robots or undead horses or flower crowns. And I will probably try and make you cry at some point.

22. Hm. Yes and no? I have written things that I would never have expected, and I have written a LOT of stuff over the years on what are essentially dares. And there's things I wrote before that I'm like, way less inclined to write now? Like looking back my early 20s were way more willing to play around with student/teacher relationships that now I'm like... why was I even touching that with a ten foot pole? I also really really really hate pregnancy and will probably never write that into any story with any degree of detail. I'm not saying people won't have kids, but I'm not gonna be dealing with it.

So I'll write anything, as long as I can make it work for me. But it might not be in a way that like, other people expect or like.

28. On days I write I aim for 4ish pages, single spaced, 11/12 font. On really good days I can do 8 pages. On really good days I can do 20. I do not usually aim for that though. 4 is quite manageable for me on one go. (And as you'll see in the answer below on my editing, that's usually the length my chapters are. I know some people like to complain about my chapters being ~too short~ but honestly I don't want to hear it. On a good weekend you're getting 8 pages of writing if I write both days, and while some would probably prefer me waiting until my chapters are at 8 pages instead of 4, the reality is if I wait for it to be that long I will start spiraling mentally on myself and if it's good enough, so it's actually much faster for me to post the smaller chunks than deal with that. I'm a post or die person, and isn't that better than not getting anything at all?)

29/47. ... Hm.

Yeah I don't really edit. My editing process is usually to do one read through before posting (Unless I'm feeling like a scene is not working at all, in which case I may go back and rework it while halfway through and change things to make it work. But if I have to do that more than 2 or 3 times I will delete the whole thing and start again). I will try and grab typos and make sure things are working, then I will post. Once posted I try to do another read through on a typo hunt, but sometimes I don't get to that for another day or two, depending on when I post it.

40. I mean, there are always so many images while writing that make me go this would be really fun as an art haha.

I would love the scene in chapter 7 of covet not the feel of gold or taste of blood of Kili just sorta losing it. Or Fili, poor lad, covered in gold.

I'd love Dick in his magic shop from trust not in the darkness, trust in my outstretched hand, or the cabin covered in candles and the snow. I tried to work on my settings a bit more in that one.

I love any time someone draws Dick and Jason and the bike from find the sun in the corners of shadows.

I would love to see Mahanon and Sonja in art together. That would probably make me cry.

But honestly I would not really care. Like any fanart is a gift that makes me so emotional any time it happens. I understand why commissions etc exist, but I feel like the idea of sharing gifts in fandom used to be stronger than it is now. And that does make me a little sad. But it still happens and every time is worth treasuring.

53. I'm more of a writer, but lately I've been reading a lot of fics again. (Stranger Things got to me). But I also read a bunch of non fanfiction things, so I go through seasons of reading fic or not. But I almost always am writing, so I'd say majority writer, but when I read I do lose it.

55. I mean, the classics at this point are Fili and Dick and Mahanon probably. I am a sucker for someone who has every reason to hate the world and chooses instead love, belief, compassion, or in Fili's case, simple fucking survival haha. And no, I don't really care about people's reactions to certain characters. If I did I would have less plans for Gaspard in the forest is dark and deep. (Every time he shows people yell at me about how much they hate him and I'm like oh well, you're going to have to keep dealing with him anyway <3)

Honestly I only seem to chose popular characters by chance, and sometimes don't really care about the fandom reading on them (Fanon Dick Grayson my beloathed). I don't mean this in a "I'm not like other girls" way, I just know I'm contrary at best, and don't really care for the whims of popular fandom. I do what I want, and I have gotten yelled at for it by readers, and not in a good squee-yelling sort of way.

Unless you mean, swayed by readers/follower's opinions in a "I will never write this again as long as I live" way in which case yes, I did actually drop a whole ship because the readers were so mean about it and it killed all joy I ever felt in those characters together. And it was Tony Stark/Loki back in the 2012 era. That was the worst experience in fandom I ever had, you will always be legendary to me for all the wrong reasons.

60. Yes! Actually I commented on their work and they went wait, aren't you the one who wrote xxx? And I was like oh, yes, that is me, and we went from there. And then we became fandom friends lol. It is always a very kind, warm feeling to realize people have read your stuff, especially when you know they've got good tastes in their own work lol.

For the temple of Dirth to be a total shit show!!! the Forbidden Oasis being EVEN WORSE! I want my boi Abelas to show, I want things in Orlais to get batshit insane while Mahanon goes "whoops" I am dying for the assassins from Josie's personal mission to show up while Mahanon is on a hair trigger on that issue (especially! Josie! After! Wycome! holy shit). I want Gaspard to show up and be really annoying for like many different things while Mahanon keeps wishing he killed him while he had the chance (real "I should have left you on that streetcorner where I found you" "But you didn't!" vibes). I want for them to try and start breaking Mahanon and his symbols down and for him and his to rebuilt something new from the ashes.

On the other hand I also want to keep trucking in Covet because I'm really excited about some of the stuff there too, and getting to the point where I can start posting some of the side story stuff I've been writing to keep myself sane in the main story lol. (I've got like a whole 13 pages of Nori POV that came out of a fucking joke to someone that I can't post yet and now I'm mad about it lol).

Since we know that Minako’s patronus is a mouse and Deuce’s patronus is a chicken, what about others?

I actually drew Deuce's Patronus as a joke. Realistically, I feel like the other characters wouldn't be able to cast the Patronus charm because of the differing magic systems and how hard it is to master the spell. They're not Minako who has inherited two magic systems, but thinking about the twst boys Patronuses are fun.

Btw I'm not strictly assigning animals based on their personalities, but I'll reference them anyway as a bit of a guide

Nezumi family:

Flor—Mixed bloodhound named Pluton based on Pluto the dog

The rest of the family members (aside from Minako) don't have Patronuses/only have incorporeal Patronuses

Students:

Riddle—Hedgehog. A cute and tiny one with an attitude, sort of like his tsum in the tsum tsum event.

Ace—Fox. A pretty common Patronus, but they're cunning and ambitious.

Trey—Brown Hare. According to @/the-patronus-librarian, people with this Patronus can handle themselves very well when pushed to the breaking point. "With their quick wit and knowledge they can hold their own in a duel, however, they prefer avoiding conflict rather than running straight into it." Although, I wouldn't say he's shy or reserved.

Cater—White rabbit. This is influenced by the amount of Cater fanart having white rabbit ears

Sebek—Crocodile. Due to his name being based on the Egyptian crocodile god.

Hello again! This time can I ask you about Vil x Silver? I think it's a truly rare ship. I've never found fanarts about them, but they both have a lot of interesting interactions, especially at the last Fairy Gala If

Ahh, yes, another rarepair to cry about...! I never expected the Fairy Gala IF event to have so much good food for them, but dammit I’m so glad it did!

Personally, I started shipping them after reading Silver’s PE Uniform vignette. As proven by that and now the Fairy Gala event, both of them find each other extremely pretty—and what makes for a better relationship than two attractive boys mashed together? :) Okay, but all jokes aside, I think that they would genuinely make for an intriguing couple. Both of them are very diligent when it comes to their respective fields of interest; they take everything seriously and don’t tolerate slackers. I think that once they find a common ground to meet on—which would be, as I envision it, working out—there will be a mutual respect and acknowledgement between them.

Now, as for romantic development... canonically, Vil sees potential in Silver as a stuntman and a model (technically, he wanted him as an actor first, but given his admiration of Silver’s face and his distaste for his acting, I’m gonna just sum that up as modeling). Therefore, it’s highly possible that he decides to connect with his underclassman again to hone his skills at some point in the future. Silver, being the sweet bean that he is, will of course go along with whatever plan he concocts, to the best of his ability. This leads to more time spent together and thus inevitable bonding...! Unlike the boys in his dorm, Vil finds Silver’s nonchalance to be a breath of fresh air—though he takes pride in his appearance regardless, there’s not that same sense of obligation to be perfect, especially since such matters don’t concern Silver. This allows him the space to let more of his real self and imperfections shine through. Silver, on the other hand, thinks of him as admirably dedicated figure whom he can learn much from. Every lecture that he receives on grooming and personal hygiene, he absorbs with utmost seriousness. As he comes to find, Vil is a great mentor.

Once their relationship is made official—which occurs after Vil finally summons the humility to confess—they start off with some somewhat formal courting. Both of them are definitely gift-givers. In Silver’s SSR Birthday Boy Card, he mentions receiving a hair care kit from Vil. I’d like to think that they continue on this trend, with Vil giving him cosmetic products and clothing that he thinks suits him, while he gives him flowers and trinkets that complements his looks in return; some of these are even worn to photoshoots, whenever Vil has the liberty to do so. Unfortunately, Silver doesn’t have much of an eye for fashion, but the gesture is appreciated nonetheless. Vil will also post about their dates on MagiCam. At first, he’s actually pretty hesitant about it; though he knows Silver would never intentionally try to steal the spotlight from him, he doesn’t want another Neige situation. Eventually, however, his love for his boyfriend wins out, as well as his appreciation for beauty, and his already numerous following soon skyrockets.

—Okay, a quick addendum on the MagiCam posting. Truthfully, I don’t think that there’d be a high chance that Vil makes details of his private life known to his fans, as he’s a seasoned celebrity and all that, but for the sake of fun and character development, I’m sticking with that headcanon. Besides, who’s to say that you can’t have two contradictory headcanons coexisting? Who knows, maybe Vil has a private account he can use instead.

Anyway... AU time! Because they’d be such a power couple, here’s an obligatory Actor/Model AU. (Actually, this could really just be an extension of canon, but because Silver’s so set on being Malleus’ guard, I’m categorizing it as an AU.) Vil would obviously be the super famous idol that everyone adores, while Silver would be an up-and-coming model whose agent is looking to expand his sphere of influence. Somehow, in true BL fashion, they end up working together on a joint project. In this case, it’s a reality TV show. Vil is aghast at how blunt and utterly charmless Silver is in real life. To save face, he takes this strange fledgling under his wing, only to have said fledgling seemingly “imprint” on him. Soon, he finds Silver everywhere, seeking him out to say hi whenever he gets the chance. It’s not until Vil discovers just how awfully Silver is being exploited by the entertainment industry that he returns the friendly gestures in kind. Because of how hopelessly naive his junior is, it’s up to him to protect the admittedly cute boy from any cutthroat competitors.

I think it would also be fun to throw the two of them into an action-packed sort of setting. Just imagine it... them in suits and shades... but I digress. In this AU, Vil—who is still a model because I have no creativity whatsoever—hires Silver as a bodyguard for an upcoming banquet. It’s mostly for show, as no one really expects anything to happen at a gathering for the high-ranking members of society... until something does. Suddenly, half the crowd is dead and Silver has fled from the building with Vil in his arms. They need to lie low for a while, Silver advises once they’re holed up in a hotel, but fate has other plans for them. Eventually, it becomes apparent that the murderer has been searching for Vil in particular and will stop at nothing to get to him. Cue the badass attire, cool guns, and high-speed races in sports cars. After it dawns on Vil that for the first time in his life he has someone to rely on, romance blossoms as well. Silver, meanwhile, is a simple, underpaid man who’s just trying to do his job—let more one-sided pining commence.

Alright, last but hopefully not least, a Snow White AU. Vil, the so-called “Evil Queen,” is known among his subjects as a fiendish figure absolutely obsessed with beauty. But while it is true that he admires lovely things a bit more than most, the source of these rumors is actually his own husband, with whom he was forced into an arranged marriage with. His husband, the king, has been long since dissatisfied with Vil’s affection, or rather lack thereof. As a result, he seeks revenge, isolating Vil and beginning a torrent series of affairs. Eventually, Vil is so lonely and desolate that every day spent in the castle drives him insane, until he becomes the vain, ruthless person everyone thinks he is. Using his magic mirror, he seeks out the most beautiful person in the land as a last ditch effort to salvage his former self—if he can mold his appearance to surpass theirs, he’ll have happiness once more, or so he thinks. Unfortunately, he is only driven mad with jealousy and rage. In an envious fit, he sneaks out of the castle and seeks out this person, a boy named Silver who lives in the forest. Upon actually finding him, however, Vil suddenly freezes. The boy’s beauty truly is the fairest in the land. He soon finds himself lured in, despite himself. Soon, his days consist of nothing but abandoning his royal life to see Silver and his family; they have a lot more in common than he anticipated, including loneliness. Once he realizes he’s in love, the story turns into one of revenge against the king who wronged him.

This is a good question @fleursdusang. I've done a lot of thinking about this with the other eight or so MelJay shippers I communicate with on Discord 😭 , and we'd long ago agreed that MelJay is an ironic rare-pair. But more on that below.

@arcane-rarepair-week has done a great write-up of what "constitutes" a rare pair in fandom, and they've broken it down here: (they do include MelJay on their list). Fandom Wiktionary describes it as:

A ship that generally receives little attention from fans and has few associated fanworks.

Ultimately, a ship is a rare pair based on output / engagement and not whether it's canon or not. Generally, the most "fair" metric to use is ao3 (although in some cases, it becomes apparent looking at fanart, or fan discourse, and other creative outputs what's what). MelJay has the unique 'distinction' of being one of the least supported / celebrated / whatever canon ships in maybe the history of any fandom. I ran the numbers, and it's pretty dire, just a quick summary from Sunday when I did this exercise to ask:

Is MelJay a "rare pair"?

based on ao3, only -

There were 8568 fanworks dedicated to Arcane on ao3. Of those fanworks, in terms of popularty by tag (including explicitly romantic and ships defined by '&' which are sometimes still romantic but not always), MelJay doesn't even appear in the top ten or fifteen.

Filtering out some of the "&" pairings allowed MelJay to edge its way in at about no. 9 or 10 with 213 stories.

Of those 213 stories: 116 were JayVik stories that weren't about MelJay. A good majority were often about breaking MelJay up or killing off Mel or whatever other narrative device in order to tell a story about JayVik. 74 of those are Violyn stories that tag MelJay despite it not being a factor in said story (I assume they do so because it's a canon ship, so folks just toss it in there). 51 of those were MelJayVik stories.

Once you filter those out, we come to 56 overall stories tagged MelJay. Of those 56, roughly 17 were actually about viktor with someone i.e. viktor / you or viktor / reader or viktor / original character. we can, if we're generous, pretend that about a third of those are as much about meljay as they are about viktor and whoever else, but even that would be a bit of a lie.

Once you filter those out, we were left with about 46 stories. And even in those, a quick review of the content showed some of them weren't even about MelJay.

A weird and non-self-aggrandizing fact that was pointed out to me today - just stating it to show the reality of things - I've written 15 of those stories, so that's about a third of stories, that are explicitly and materially in terms of the content about Mel Medarda and Jayce Talis in a relationship of some kind, were written by one person. That's weird, for the only confirmed, together, onscreen, canon romantic ship - but that's the reality.

ANYWAY.

The above rambling answer to your comment from this post is really my way of just reflecting on all this for my own reasons and opening the discussion which we'll all probably only have in an honest way in a few years across fandom about this and not to rant at you in anyway. Because the treatment of / reception / backlash (in many ways especially in the first few months) to MelJay is a bit weird. That's the word I'll use so I don't use different words that piss folks off.

ETA: Because someone did mention this, I know the '&' tag is generally used for platonic or familial relationships. But I notice people in a lot of cases in this fandom use it interchangeably with the bigger ships. May not always be the case. But either way, the situation for MelJay is dire. And those '&' ships don't really detract from that conclusion.

Loving your posts about ship dynamics

I often end up feeling alone when I start to speak about such things. Because people either ship the opposite of what I think is right ( sn is more popular for some bizarre reason) or claim to don't mind the dynamic ( while in fact preferring the most popular one). Sometimes they even imply that it's wrong to prefer a specific dynamic "because real people are not like that". While in real life most gay people just like hetero people have the preferred position.

I, personally, have a pairings where I tolerate switch dynamic but still have a preferred one. But in those pairings the thing that makes it possible for me is the fact that the characters are both on the somewhat equal footing. There's no psychological or social imbalance between them.

But things like ns or hsmd? No. Clear top/bottom positions to me.

There's even sun/moon symbolism there...

And, Anon, I feel the same all the time...I wrote explanations and disclaimers on why tf I think the way I think all over my blog because at some moments it was crazy, at every time I made a comment about top and bottom some sheep-like person appeared with their "you can't ship A/B because top/bottom distinction fetishizes gay guys" and "real ppl are not like that, they switch"...

I heard these bullshit things so many times and they make me laugh because probably those who say them aren't even lgbt, or allies, they're just shippers of the other dynamic, or who want to bitch for the sake of bitching, they probably even had s*x before so stfu, gay guys in real life are not even listening to you and they sure don't give a damn about how you portray your characters in your little online world. And the switching thing...ugh. Like you said, some ppl do have preferences irl. Even gay guys. I am not a guy but I do have a strong preference and I had it both when I had a guy and now that I am with a girl. So real life doesn't confirm their bullshit. Also, even if irl it's was they say, we're talking about fictional characters...specifically, fictional characters with supernatural powers, in a fantasy universe. If they can summon magic animals and direct black flames with their eyes, can't they be only bottoms as well? Just sayin'.

And ofc there are the fake switch shippers, who claim they like both but you can clearly see they prefer one, which suspiciously is always the wrong one. They all ship SN but they claim they're open and woke and cool so they like SNS. F*ck them tbh.

And don't get me started on those who claim that Sasuke bottom is 'wrong' totally misinterpreting his personality, especially with NAr and Itachi. And they bitch at you for not shipping SN and SI...Like, wtf are you looking at? cause it's not the same manga I read. I remember some idiot using the sun/moon to prove their OOC point even, i don't remember what was the logic but it was so stupid I blocked them, and it was one of those very popular blogs lol

To think that sun/moon yin/yang should have closed all sort of discussion about top/bottom right? NS and HSMD (which I assume it's hashimada) are pretty clear...and there are many others who are pretty clear, after all if a character like Sas has clearly a passive/yang personality and one like NAr has an assertive/yin personality it's almost impossible to see them in a different 'role'. For me, thinking about top Sas is really OOC. Others can switch, like Kakaobi where I too switch preference for one or the other lol, not being a big fan of the pairing anyway so I go with the mood of the fanart I'm looking at. Or, say, rare pairings as Tobirama/Madara who both give me bottom vibes so who knows. Like you said, when the pairing is really equal I get the switching (even in Shiita I kinda get it) but NS, Hashimada, and all pairings with a power inbalance are clear. And those ppl are wrong.

4. Fav character/subject that’s a bitch to draw:

Zhou Ying from Tai Sui!! I know he's literally a book character with no specific canon appearance, but I accidentally created a massive challenge for myself in designing/drawing him lmao.

I really like the face I've landed on for drawing Xi Ping from the same novel, and since he's supposed to be beautiful in a sharp, overbearing type of way, I tend to draw him with a thinner face and a very prominent chin and cheekbones. And I think that look suits him! The problem with that is that Zhou Ying is supposed to look a lot like Xi Ping, especially in the lower part of their faces, except, especially early in the novel, he's also notably thinner and frailer. He's also got his sort of spooky, all-knowing placid eyes. Yet he's supposed to be beautiful! How do I take a face that's already 70% chin and cheekbones, make it even bonier to an unhealthy degree, give it unsettling eyes, and yet retain the sense of beauty? I haven't quite figured that out yet lmao.

I also struggle a lot with either emulating Jun Mochizuki's art style or translating her character designs to my own, which I why I rarely draw fanart for VnC despite absolutely adoring the series. I'm trying to get better at that though!

7. A medium of art you don’t work in but appreciate

Two answers here. The most immediate and obvious one is digital art in general, since I work pretty much entirely traditionally. I'm always so impressed by the kinds of lighting and color effects that I see in work by people with access to things like photoshop layer adjustments. I know "digital art" is almost an absurdly broad category, but god there are some very impressive pieces out there done entirely with my good friend the computer.

Also, I adore papercraft/papercut art. Every time I see something really intricate made out of cut paper, my brain just, like, short-circuits in awe. It's so cool!! Speaking of Tai Sui, one of my all time favorite pieces of Tai Sui art is this Xi Ping by Yutaan here on tumblr. If you really want to see some really cool papercraft, Yutaan's stuff in general is incredible imo.

17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what

Not really, no. Since I'm almost entirely a traditional artist, I'm really paranoid about food getting stains on my paper 😔. Even stuff you think is stain free, like, say, a pretzel, can result in unexpected grease spots if you're not careful. So I generally try to keep snack time far away from whatever I'm drawing.

I do drink water when I draw, since I'm pretty much always drinking water no matter what I'm up to, but I have to be careful to keep the glass somewhere that I'm confident can't spill onto my paper. I've definitely gotten water stains on a lot of sketchbook pages in the past lol.

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways

I was just talking about this with some friends last night! One of my oldest and dearest friends is the artist troubled cryst, which I find hilarious because our art processes are exact polar opposites lmao. I am an incredibly slow artist, prone to spending hours inking fairly simple drawings as I fuss over line weights and try to perfect tiny details in pencil before I ink them. I lean hard into the fussy and painstaking side of things. I also just adore black ink and will fit about as much of it into a drawing as I can. The ink is very much the main character for me, and color's just kind of a bonus.

Meanwhile, my bestie Meg Troubledcryst is, in the best possible way, kind of fast and loose as an artist. Her pieces are full of color and movement, with an emphasis on that expressive motion, and her lineart tends to be on the free and sketchy side. I know from talking to her that she hates to spend too long fussing over any one drawing or any one part of a drawing if she can avoid it. She can probably crank out two fully colored, good-looking pieces in the time it'd take me to do one effortful round of lineart lmao. But I love her stuff! I think it's really cute that we're such different artists even though I more or less started learning how to draw as a tween because of her art.

I also adore paintings that do a lot of work with light and color, despite the fact that I am, as established, a black ink girlie in my own art. Current obsessions are these sky paintings by autoneurotic and these oranges by itsc.

Eras tour story chapter 1

Ok swifties i got my writing skills to make an Eras fanfic lmao

this is based on lyrics, the eras tour setlist, fandom lore, and fanart from the fandom (artists works refrenced so far are listed inspired by some of alef vernons work on twitter)

So heres My attempt an an eras fanfic lol Lol my fanfic era haha

YUP AND SETTING IS THE LOVER HOUSE

~CHAPTER 1~

"Its been a long time coming!!!" Lover exhaled at the sight of her first order of crunchwrap burritos rep had plopped on the table. "You owe me, Love" rep uttered dryly, through a smile. "Ha." chuffing coyly, lover could see right through rep, as always, knowing her edge was just for show. "I cant make any promises, but ill make you a drink" she shyly dragged the warm package close to her.

"FOOD????" A disasterous cacophany of cowboy boots stomped down the spiral staircase. A Barely brushed, half-haggardly stumbling, debut.

"Not for you 'bu!" Rep waved over to her. "But sharing is caring!!!" debut exclaimed, "y'all know i was the first to move in here but the perks??? Dryer than snakeskin in the sahara desert. cant i get, like, special dibs on food????"

" 'Bu is right, sharing is caring!" lover scrunched her face in endearment toward debut. After all, being the youngest of the bunch, she rarely goes out too much on her own, and is always looking from the Outside. "get over here."

Wild curls, reveling in their early morning pre-brush reign, rattled and bounced as debut skipped across the living room into the kitchen.

"I ordered double,... Triple actually. i knew you and fearless would catch me now," lover winked.

"Fearless is asleep, but you can eat upstairs and bring her breakfast in bed this morning...."

"....Like a princess!" lover and debut chimed in unison.

'Bu beamed. She always had a soft spot for lover. After all. Shell never forget when she asked for all her old journals and had them organized and read out. She always had something wise to say about debuts wild shenanigans. She saw debut's wild fire almost as much as….

"HAS ANYONE SEEN THE BUTTERFLY I LEFT ON THE WINDOWSILL!?"

jars clattering and clanging can be heard from the kitchen, but its origins are far from it.

"Folklore what did you bring in the house THIS TIME!?" Rep exclaimed.

"IT WAS A RARE MORPH!" Her Footsteps slow ombre toward the kitchen, clatter and clinking of jars accompanied her.

she appeared with her typically umkept hair, yet somehow still harmonious with her tattered nightgown, always trailed by moss or leaves, despite always swearing she slept in the house the entire time (almost, at least)

I found a rare dead monarch morph yesterday and left it by the windowsill, i hadnt preserved it yet cause i was due to go out to get some more supplies… Have any of you seen it…

"Listen i may be the snake of the group but i havent seen your butterfly, fol."

"Damn it!!! It was rare!!!! "

"I was THERE!" red skittered down the stairs to defend folklores lost claim.

"I remember it all too well... she placed it on the window sill last night."

Debut uttered a small squeak and looked at lover, while pointing to speak now's room.

Folklore caught the subtleties.

" speak now took my butterfly?"

"No…" Rep caught on.

Low rumbling Sounds emerged from speaknow's room.

"Oh…."

" its her time of month, isnt it?"

Smoke rose from the cat door as it slowly creaked open….. Scratches were heard from the door that seemed like a small pet. But Who emerged was far from it… a dragon, barely fitting the size of the door nonetheless.

"Yup" all said in unison.

"Looks like you skip breakfast today speak," Rep said.

"Yall never get me my cravings before they start!!! So i had to resort to folklores room!!!" Speak rumbled, before coughing up some ash over folklore.

Omg Sorry!!! Morning voice :(

Nah, folklore waved a hand in the air. "Im covered in dirt anyways."

"But….i didnt eat the butterfly, swear. Snacked on some of the wisterias though. Sorry :("

"Thats okay, i planted those for you :)"

Speak now: ……(:

"Well, then if you didnt then…."

Sounds of a cat heaving were audiably going down the stairs.

"Speak- speakn-n now isnt the only enchanted one here …" debut stuttered.

An auburn cat emerges, looking sickly.

"Evermore…"

"EVERMORE YOU KNOW THOSE ARE POISONOUS!" folklore exclaimed.

"reeellalaax, im not THAT fucked in the head." evermore said through the coughs, " the butterfly? Oh thats GONE," evermore explained.

"Emergency spell last night, i have to show up for work today, and i cant show up LIKE THIS, im a monster on my time of month you know….. im not some fae that sprout wings once a month," she glared at folklore playfully.

"Ha, ha." Well, in MY OPINION… you should show up to work in whatever form of your nature."

"Im just as dignified;" evermore adds. but the spring lunar cycles are always that damn season for allergies…."

Folklore teased a smile. "Either way, i guess you can pass my wrath this time."

Smoke suddenly filled the room as a golden orb appeared around evermore, growing until she returned to her human form again.

"Thats MUCH BETTER." evermore straightened her terra cotta tone dress adjusting the frills and evergreen cape. "As a high sorceress you think i'd get used to this by now, but im ashamed im probably still fucked in the head. I'll never remember to prep for these spring allergies."

but then, he hasn’t touched it a few months, because he’s been training with all might

then, when he finally had enough free time again— he decided to go on pinterest

but instead of finding any heroes he could look at, he found the prettiest human being he has ever seen in his entire life 💀

that person was a different type of beauty, y’know— they weren’t just fashionable, but their beauty was,,

timeless? that’s how he’d describe it. yeah. that person lived in his head rent free for a while

i am certain for this one— he doesn’t have pinterest

well, he didn’t have pinterest, until midoriya convinced him to create an account, but it kinda just ended at that

but the person that actually made him use pinterest was sero, because he kept bugging him to give it a try

todoroki finds the app very practical— he can find screen caps of heroes in action, and he can also find oddly helpful tips in cooking (and in anything)

but sero was like “todoroki, what about the aesthetic value??” and todoroki didn’t really get that part to be honest 💀

todoroki, being clueless didn’t know what to search for— so sero being the wonderful friend he is, helped him search for it

and that’s when it happened. it didn’t take that long, but they eventually found an entire section just full of pictures of you; their classmate and crush

“is that Y/N?” mina notices what they’re looking at, and she observes the picture “oh wow— it is her! no wonder why she looked familiar.”

“it’s impressive! our classmate is pinterest famous!” they continue to look at every single post in each board, and todoroki’s left to observe in silence

he has definitely taken a liking to you, even if he didn’t realize it at first— he liked you because of your hard work when it came to training, personality and patience, not because of your looks

obviously, todoroki thinks that you look good in anything, trashbag style or not. but seeing you in this light was interesting.

so after training, todoroki would spent a good portion of his time scavenging for more pictures— not because he was obsessed or anything

but because,, he really liked your pictures. maybe it was because without you in those pictures, it would feel incomplete

he didn’t know how to approach you after this discovery, which is why he’s glad that you approached him first

he’s quiet for a second when he realizes that you’ve caught him staring at your pictures, but he explains calmly, “sero accidentally discovered your pictures,, and i just wanted to take a peak at them, if it was okay,,”

and he’s relieved— well, you’re also relieved. you didn’t know how your crush would react if he ever saw those pictures, but your heart skipped a beat knowing that he enjoyed looking at them

“it’s alright todoroki,” you smile, honestly over the moon as you spoke “i’m really glad that you like them.”

sometimes you’d get shy whenever he’d go on pinterest just to look at your pictures, “todoroki, not that one! that one was really old,,” is what you’d say whenever he’d look at your older photos but he’d still look at them anyway 💀

at first, todoroki helped you in his own subtle way. since he’s quite the fashion icon— he’d recommend you clothes to wear for future pictures

he eventually confessed— and it was because you were talking to him while he was really tired, and he blurted out that he really, really liked you and you almost passed away because of his words

so yeah— it was a case of secretly admiring their beautiful best friend to lovers scenario

he’d go the full mile when it came to taking your pictures. he’d check the weather forecast just in case if it was going to rain for that date, and impromptu picnic photoshoot

but this isn’t all one sided, no— whenever you guys would cuddle, shouto would simply stare at you with HEARTS in his eyes,

he knows that you know that he’s not with you because of any ulterior motive, you both have mutual trust in each other— so it’s not something you guys will bother on questioning because you’re both hot asf lets be real

Weird Thoughts on Lucius' Visuals

Well, i knew Lucius from a supposedly porn comic series on Deviantart. That's just fucked up to think about sometimes.

Let's talk about Jason's Interferences. Yes, he's potentially yassifiedable for being a slick and dramatic character in the books, but he's not supposed to have long hair...You know the L'oreal memes, basically all the hair-related memes...those are my tween-age cornerstone lmao.

Movie Lucius look is mostly based on Jason Isaacs' Preferences. This image's authority is questionable, it's not mine either, but i think it resembles what i imagined in the books

He's a racist character, Jason thought, which makes clear of him to not dressed like muggles (or pretty much like Arthur Weasley and possibly other protagonists). This later shaped his major movie looks. He asked for longer hair to distinguish him from Draco, he also asked for exaggerated coat, and of course, THE CANE! Yes, Jason Isaacs literally carried the whole Lucius' character on the screen. He designed his character, played his character, even asked JK to make a final statement for Lucius in Deathly Hallows because he's supposed to not appear anymore, She granted it eventually.

For me it's very obvious. I love to see artists being passionate about their lifeworks. I didnt blame Jason Isaacs for being a good looking person and i understand some fans really foreseeing it first (i am too honestly). But i think that is the ultimate juice about Lucius' character on the screen, It's just really cool...

Oh if only i have better words to explain all my love for him arghh..it's just not enough..

Move on to the fanarts. Most of them are either gay looking or daddy looking like the image i showed you earlier. There's no hate on that...i might have some preferences, but more on that later..

I noticed some platforms/regions have their unique visualization styles. Tumblr is just being tumblr, so is twitter, instagram, they actually have quite similar artist culture. Deviantart and Livejournal archives was obviously legendary. TikTok is also unique for being a short video platform, i've seen numerous Lucius/Jason edit in thirst trap manner, which i happened hard consuming it. Russian fans are likely prone to rare ships like malfoycest, Chinese fans are surprisngly active on hp fandom despite being shown only in mainland platforms, and i've seen some good stuffs coming from Japanese hp artists. I'ts questionable whether there's actually official anime illustration of Harry Potter in japan or if it's just being a regional trend. but i often seen him being drawn in white hair instead of blond (Draco and Narcissa is still drawn blond anyway). i don't know why i liked it...

Personaly i want to see more of Lucius in dynamic clothing (very much like Draco) which explain why i love him in Deathly Hallows part 1 so much. in this case i'd refer to Pelegrin-tn and Opalchalice. their photo manipulations are my favorite.

As for my personal art direction, you'll often see me keeping his stubble from DH and umm in other case might be his post-azkaban mental instability...for noble purposes...HAHAH, but i also have a thing for making his hair wavy rather than straight, i did also love to imagine his hair cut shoulder-short like Severus.

if u were in the fandom at around 2019 you'll remember this video. really a grand hallmark of its time. this is probably the most unecessary thing ill ever do but i see alot of recent comments from a month ago agreeing with this and i think thats extremely sad. im mostly doing this as a fun nostalgia trip and also i really want to justify me wasting 14 minutes watching this

first of all i want to say this video is fucking awful. just dreadful. like girl what the fuck are you even saying. i'd only recommend watching in full if you want to hear about the fandom in 2019 with a condesending voice talking down to you the whole time and even then you could probably do better just scrolling through the discourse tag

2:51 | oh wow the "fixing art" thing. i dont think this is a thing anymore but it definitely was a big thing back in 2019! the thing is im quite neutral on it because a lot of artists dont like their work being edited but on the other hand if you dont like when people put the correct skintones on your art then maybe you should colour it right the first time

i will say though if you see cool art of like dark choco or espresso and its whitewashed and u wanna edit it so its not and u keep it to yourself then idc thats fine to me. the grey area is when it comes to characters like moonlight or alchemist, who's skintone is quite difficult to pull off in some artstyles. a lot of the examples in the video use people like cherry blossom or cotton candy who don't quite fit in the same category but are usually targets of this anyway

a very simple fix is to just use a different colour but to not make them significantly lighter from how they look in canon, which alot of the examples you showed don't do. they all look pale as shit compared to what they actually look like ingame and thats why people complained about them

devsisters really love showcasing whitewashed art of their characters (they used to do it on their forums rarely but thats now gone) and recently they've been quite excited to dabble in the whitewashing themselves (keep in mind the others except from twizzly gummy don't really count as whitewashing but they're all significantly lighter than their regular appearance). its like a hobby or sumn. everytime they host a fanart contest i brace for god damn impact. and this has been a thing since FOREVER

speaking of race and ethnicity, lilacs costume (and redesign in general) is just... bad but i dont think they were even introduced at the time of this video. milk and yam WERE though and its extremely baffling to me how this went through an entire team/company and got greenlit. its insane how shit they are (if it was just yam on his own i wouldn't hate him as much, i still wouldn't like him tbh, but they decided to pair him up with a white saviour). would i call them racist though? ...idk? they've been moving funny recently cant lie

another thing is the valentines day video which pisses me off to even think about. in that vid theres alot of.. ships that definitely arent legal. and whitewashing ^_^ they still haven't addressed it btw if ur curious. but it happened this year and honestly i wouldnt blame them for not thinking devsisters would do something like that bc i sure didnt!

theres also the thing with nfts but no one couldve foresaw that one coming

i assume when you mention people saying devsis are transphobic that you're talking about characters like dark choco or cinnamon who weren't referred by any pronouns until they were magically given he/him pronouns later on. nonbinary people can use any pronouns they so damn please but i get why people would get annoyed about them both suddenly being referred as he/him. wouldn't call it transphobic though. other than idk, how tf am i meant to defend something when u dont even telling me what ur talking abt

anyway the last thing i want to go over is the "cookie run fandom is soo obsessed with debating on whitewashing, ages, gender and sexualities!" thing thats so prevelent with these arguments. 2019 had this fun period where with every new cookie that came out there was some sort of controversy with them (millennial tree and raspberry mousse being he/him, roll cake and sorbet shark being a child or not, ect.)

whitewashing is obvious why so i'll move on. some characters can be seen as lesbian coded (white choco and rose for having majority girl fans, sea fairy in general) and there are a few characters that explicitly aren't referred to by any pronouns (dark choco before the guild adventures, peppermint, ect.) which u dont see everyday in games. so yeah.. people care about these things because they like representation. who would've thought?

now im gonna be fucking real. the arguments over cookies ages were always annoying - the reason why the fandom has arguments about ages so much is because devsis REFUSES to tell us canon ages. think about it, majority of the "canonially confirmed" children in the game are from a child event that happened in LINE. thats a completely different company running the game. because of how character-heavy the game is, ships are a very big part of the fandom. i sincerely doubt theres anyone in the fandom who doesnt like any ship and at the time rarepairs were rly common. so when you've got a fandom who really likes to ship and developers that dont ever mention ages then you get a fucking mess. i dont know what sorbet shark or roll cakes age is and its pointless to even debate it because id rather just have the devs confirm it themselves (not like they ever will). and even for the one singular time they did specify that one of the characters was a child, they still showcased fanart of said kid being shipped with an adult anyway

but that concludes the video and thus this response! i have wasted so much time on this i honestly could've showed you them ranting about how "cookies dont have skin colours" in the video or the part in the marina video where they complain about how people "think whitewashing is bad but make non-black characters black" and moved on but what else would i do on a sunday night?
