Which leads to Dick's expression shuttering in a truly terrifying way. A cold fury that gives way to cruel passion and something wounded. It's Dick shoving Jason back, pinning him to a wall and seething at him, eyes narrowed and teeth bared because: 'I wouldn't. I've tried; I can't.'

He won't do it again.

Jason being blindsided by the intensity and genuine hurt/mourning there. His heart aching because, oh.

That was until your boyfriend felt envious of those around you. He was unable to visit you as often as he would've liked. When he saw others talking to his girlfriend... well, he didn't stand for it.

At first it was just possessive behavior. Then it was following you around and surprising you with affection when you thought he was working. Then... Then Espio felt there was only one way to make sure you're his.

Not wanting to take the overly violent approach, Espio insisted on keeping you in your home. He moved in and was very rough with affection. He didn't want to let you go, often praising and murmuring to you about how much he adored you.

It was like Espio was everywhere. Even as you grew you trust with him he rarely left the house. He made you feel like he wasn't there... in reality he was invisible just around the corner.

That was what made it odd to you when you finally did escape.

Even though he wasn't near you and you were far from home... you didn't feel alone. You try to tell yourself it's just your anxiety speaking. You're just thinking too much... you keep thinking of him... if you can just stop then everything will be okay?

Hopefully... you just want your freedom back.

Part of you still loves Espio. He's just possessive and overprotective, isn't he? He... He doesn't mean to hurt you.

You just miss the sun on your skin/fur.

You try to calm yourself the best you can. He's not here... you can't see him so he's not here, is he? He's just... working... he trusted you alone so you have some time to gain ground. You don't need him... you'll be fine.

Unfortunately, when it comes to Espio, out of sight doesn't mean he's gone.

While you stew in your own anxiety, Espio watches from a distance. His invisibility allows him to be out of sight yet able to watch you. You're right... Espio wouldn't let his girlfriend out of his sight so easily.

Even in your escape attempt he watched you carefully. It was cute how you thought you had an escape. If Espio wants to protect his girlfriend, he can't have you getting hurt or leaving so easily.

He's always a few steps ahead of you.

You begin to learn why your anxiety keeps being set off when Espio shows himself.

"Now what are you doing all the way out here?" Espio asks, disappointment in his yellow gaze. He sees you freeze before him, silently cursing to yourself. "Out for a walk?"

"Espio... I can't just sit in the house all day-" You try to reason, yet Espio doesn't listen.

"Does my protection mean nothing to you? What do you think could've happened if I wasn't here?" Espio scoffs. "I can't leave my girlfriend alone, can I?"

"Espio... I don't want this anymore." You whine, only for Espio to ignore your pleads.

"Come on, let's head home." Espio hums. "Maybe later we'll walk together."

He reaches for you but you push him away. Espio's behavior is still calm and collected despite your fighting. You could rarely ever shake him from being stoic.

"I don't want to go home, Espio. Not with you." You sneer. Espio looks unamused by this but is still calm with his voice.

"Then maybe we should talk about this... at home." Espio reiterates. "I'm sure we can work things out."

"You know we won't work out any more." You retaliate, noticing Espio's stoic facade shake for a moment before he regains his composure.

"Not with that attitude..." He sneers back. "I really don't want to drag you back home, you don't want that either, do you?"

There's a certain look in Espio's eyes when he glares at you. It's enough to make you reconsider your fight. You love him... yet you're still scared of what he's capable of.

Maybe it's the fear of what he'll do... maybe it's because you still love him and think you can fix him... either way you hang your head and follow. Espio is pleased in your decision when you walk up to him. You hesitantly settle your hand in his and walk with him.

"See? Was that so hard?" Espio praises in a teasing tone. "We'll talk all about this at home... Hopefully you won't do this again, will you?"

Espio side eyes you with a judging look, causing you to silently shake your head.

"That's good, I won't have to discipline you for this... much." Espio adds on at the end, causing you to shiver.

You know Espio won't hurt you physically...

Yet you still dread the idea of what he's planning due to you escaping.

Mods to Make School Better (High School Years + Discover University)

I really love The Sims 4, but I love The Sims 4 because I play a heavily modded game. I know that option isn’t for everyone, but for those who do... Sometimes it’s hard to know where to look. It’s like when you’re hungry and you open up your food delivery service of choice and are just overwhelmed by the options these days.

Luckily... I look around a lot.

This post is inspired by the other amazing posts here, here, here and of course here. It started as something just for High School Years but grew... very quickly...

This list was last updated 17 September 2022 / Patch 1.91.205.

More Students at High School (Ksuihuh) OR High School More Class Mates (Aramiteus)

Use one or the other here and read the descriptions because if you use Aramiteus’ version, you need to change MCCC Maximum Sims on Lot Value to about 40.

The main draw is that more students will be on the High School lot. Aramiteus’ mod also adds 2 other teachers and an extra lunch person dependent on how many whiteboards/cafeterias you have on lot. It also requires you to choose your classmates before going to school.

Ksuihuh’s version comes with a script mod to increase the numbers of sims on the lot, as well an extra mod for an extra lunch person. It does not make you pick the sims going to class--you will need Rex’s Choose High School Classmates mod to ensure the sims you want are going to show up to school!

ChippedSim’s High School Tweaks

ChippedSim calls these “tweaks” but a full Active Class experience overhaul is a bit more than that in my opinion!

Please note that updates are coming to this mod ACTIVELY - just today I saw that there were more in class interactions for the Active Classes! So keep an eye out on tumblr or twitter.

ChippedSim also overhauled the lockers so that you can keep more thing in there, as well as buy some stuff! Take a look at the full breakdown here, but I can’t recommend this enough.

ADeepIndigo’s Small High School Years Tweaks

Yes, I’m saying just download the whole lot.

More Discipline adds Parenthood compatibility--you can now discipline your kids for misbehaving/sneaking out/getting expelled. Why wasn’t that included by default? Ask EA, and thank ADeepIndigo in the meantime.

More Fun Pier Rides does what it says: raises the fun meter more!

Less Random Crushes makes it so that crushes are determined by Sims’ personalities instead of just randomly occurring.

Shop for Prom Outfit is just a really cute idea! It costs $100 to buy a prom outfit, and that can only be done once prom is announced.

My favorite has to be More Locker Notes. Don’t just let your sims cyberbully on Social Bunny. Let them passive-aggressively do it in person too.

ADeepIndigo’s Dynamic Teen Life

As of writing this, the mod is still in testing but I’ve been playing with it in my game for a few days and I’m still playing around with it, but it already adds sooo much more to my teen’s lives. More afterschool activities, popularity and cliques, new journal entries (for the Parenthood journals).... Gossip, rumors and having to actually try out to join the cheerleading squad.

Oh yes, I think this’ll become not just an essential mod for HSY users, but for most legacy players as well.

MissyHissy’s Form Groups in School

I won’t be surprised if MissyHissy comes out with some more mods but this is the one from their tweaks I’m currently using. EA didn’t let groups form in school which... you know, you’d think they’d want some cross-compatibility with previous packs to allow for literal cliquey behaviors but.

Anyway, this fixes that!

Lot51.cc’s Fashion Authority

I haven’t played much with this yet for high school but have it in my game for other reasons. This mod lets you take control of townie outfits... Including situation ones, and can restrict by regions. This is excellent if you want to have your sims wear a uniform to Copperdale, for instance, or you have a specific cheerleading uniform in mind, etc.

LittleMsSam’s HSY Bug Fixes

Hopefully we will not need these forever. Until they are patched though...

Take Exam Fix - stops sims from just getting up five minutes after the exam.

NPC Relationship Autonomy Fix - are you tired of random sims barging in, asking you to be BFFs after you added them on Social Bunny? fear not, because this should curb NPCs’ stalking you.

High School Promote Fix - helps the game promote sims from Cs to Bs if they’ve been going to school actively the whole time...

Stop Phone Change Color Obsession - I needed this one bad. Stops sims from changing their phone color every time they visited a new lot, and removed the camera focus as well

A tiny little mod by Ilkavelle to help your sims sneak out, if they haven’t been getting invited out by their classmates!

Ilkavelle’s Teen Aspiration Bundle

I didn’t link this before as the teen aspirations hadn’t been updated to work with high school years... But now they have! This adds a few more teen-only aspirations for your sims (Prom Royalty, Overachiever, Towards Independence and Teenage Rebellion).

ADeepIndigo’s Summer Camps

We’re moving away from High School Years fixes and enhancements straight over to the joys of gameplay. This mod adds Summer Camps to the game which is... actually really super fun? Summer Camp is for children and teen sims; there are a variety of different camps to send your kids off to. This isn’t an active experience; it’s a rabbit hole “job” that replaces school, and there are both day camps and away camps. It’s also ONLY available during the summer, and camp automatically ends when summer does.

Simston Private School [originally by SHEnanigans, adopted by ADeepIndigo]

ADeepIndigo adopted this mod by SHEnanigans after she was hired by EA, and updated it for the most recent patch. There’s not a current write-up about this mod available from a modding source, but there is a review by SnootySims that you can read, or you can read this capture from the Wayback Machine.

This mod recreates the TS2 Headmaster Visit event - if you pass, your child/teen is then enrolled in Private School. No more basic public school for your snooty rich sims!

Homework Tweaks & Subject Homework [originally by Scarlet, adopted by LittleMsSam]

I’ve had this so long, I genuinely forgot how long sims take to do homework. This mod comes in a few different flavors, but it makes sims do their homework... faster! Time is money, right?

Subject Homework also allows sims to raise skill while doing their homework. There’s a couple different options for what homework they can do, and I personally like to try to match it to what class my sims had in High School that day [maybe they write a persuasive essay after Social Studies, etc].

Zero’s University Custom Degrees & Tweaks/Fixes

Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you’ve played TS4 a lot, and you’re tired of all those regular degrees. Maybe you’re a little annoyed that completing university plays into the lie we American millennials were told that going to college is the fast track to riches. Well fear not, because not only does this mod add 15 custom degrees, it also overhauls how degrees play into careers if you want it to.

This is very modular so read the post carefully. I personally play with Zero’s tunings, because I also use University Costs More, Higher Scholarships and Harder Distinguished Degree Acceptance, as well as the Required Degree for Promotion that’s in optional folder. I know TS4 is a fantasy where I can have vampires and werewolves and also secret agents but I also like to make life hard on myself.

If you just want the Custom Degrees, good news: there’s also a file that goes by EA’s tunings so you don’t need to have everything cost an arm, leg and house or require degrees for jobs or anything.

There are other tweaks available, mostly to adjust the autonomy from roommates in dorms.

Revy’s Get Back your Presentation Board

I don’t want to talk about all the times I’ve lost my presentation board. This mod provides a way to get it back. You just have to email your professor.

LittleMsSam’s Choose your Roommate

Lets you pick your dormmates or roommates :’) Great if you have a specific storyline in mind and already have the classmates picked out. This is another mod that has steps so read the post carefully. You can also pair it with LittleMsSam’s Chores mod to set up cleaning rotations :)

Zerbu’s Go to School V5 [Builder’s Tools]

Did you think I’d leave out the child stage? I’m not EA. I’m including this one here as while its actively in development, builders can get started building elementary schools now. You can also read Zerbu’s plans for elementary school here. I would not recommend using the old mod for now, as its considered unsupported and will be replaced by the new version requiring HSY.

But until then, I’m keeping it here as I know Go to School is a long running mod. V4 is here.

Debate Event: let your future lawyers compete against each other, starting from grade school. These events can also be attended by teens, in case you want them to go to debate club as well

Talent Contest: well if there’s a science fair, your artsy students should also get a chance to show off, right? This one isn’t required but it is a really cute idea.

Ilkavelle’s One Time Jobs for Teens & Kids

One of the childhood aspiration add-ons is about making some money as a kid. This allows kids to take up some jobs around the neighborhood (pet sitting, dog walking, lemonade stand, etc). Just a nice little add-on for your kids to do something extra.

So, since apparently I'm in a DC posting mood right now, you all want to hear this concept that's been baking in my mind for a while now?

Stephanie Brown is the same level of crimefighter as Bruce Wayne. Hear me out.

First, a common thematic reading of the Batfamily, especially the Batkids, is that all of them are in some way better than Bruce at one specific thing. Like with the equally broad thematic reading of 'All of Batman's rogues reflect a part of his psyche' this doesn't entirely hold up to scrutiny and doesn't apply to all of the Batkids, but it applies to enough: Dick is the better leader, Babs is the better strategist, Tim is the better detective, Cass is the better fighter, you get the idea. Now, normally when considering this reading the consensus for Steph is that she is the negative archetype, similar to how the Joker is interpreted in the rogues reading - an inverse of the common rule, in this case meaning that Steph isn't particularly good at anything. Some people who take this reading end this part with 'And that's why I love her!' - most don't. But I think that's entirely wrong, and to explain why we need to examine Bruce's own past.

In most versions of the Batman origin, there's a period, usually immediately or closely after Bruce graduating from either high-school or college, where Bruce travels the world, seeking masters of specific disciplines and learning all he can from them. The amount of people he meets is extensive - seriously, I have a word doc of 40 names and that's not even all of them - and later stories, particularly the Nolan trilogy, Batman/The Shadow, and IIRC Batman: Earth One, try to par that down to a single entity - The League of Shadows, The Shadow, and Alfred, respectively - teaching him all that is necessary to become Batman. It's not a change I particularly like, for one simple reason - the trek around the globe is as much metatexual as it is backstory. Like many of the prototypical superheroes, Batman isn't just one thing, he's many influences that Bill Finger brought to the table when creating him - he's a pulp hero like the Shadow, an adventure swashbuckler like Zorro and the Scarlet Pimpernel, a detective like Sherlock Holmes, all melding together to form our concept of 'Batman'. Having him learn from all these disparate sources - from ninjas and car thieves and magicians and detectives - seems like a way of acknowledging that breadth of influence, and I can't help but feel like limiting it to only Ra's or Lamont or Alfred takes away from that.

So, what does all that have to do with Stephanie Brown? Well, think about it - almost all of the Batfamily have only one real mentor - there are exceptions, like Tim basically becoming Babs' apprentice in No Man's Land and Cass' very funny shared custody situation, but mainly all of the Batkids learn from Batman, and what they excel at they were just kind of naturally good at anyway - Babs and Cass especially, no shade. With Steph, though? It's not as impressive as Bruce's list, but she learns general Cowl skills with Bruce, hacking and cryptography with Babs, detective skills with Tim, get fighting tips from Cass and Black Canary, is taught teamwork by Kate, evasion skills with Damian (that last one may not be purposeful), plus whatever else she can learn because, unlike the rest of the Batfamily, at least Pre-Flashpoint Steph was always learning.

True, Steph started out with very few practical skills in crimefighting, but you know who else did that? Bruce - every single time a comic or adaptation has shown him attempting to fight crime before the training trek has him absolutely suck at it. At the very least Steph never decided to stop her dad by attempting to assassinate him in a courthouse full of witnesses by veeery slowly pointing a gun at him, like Nolanverse Bruce.

Bottom line? If one more person says Steph 'isn't particularly skilled at anything', I will chew glass.

So, I’ve had this idea for a fic for a very long time. Maybe one day I’ll actually have the discipline to sit down and attempt to finally write the damn thing, but I still wanna share it and get it out there in some capacity. Hell, if any of you reading this want to steal it and write this for yourselves or get inspired by this in some way, please feel free to!!!

Anyways— we always see Dean react to Cas’ death but Cas never sees the aftermath/fall out from it because well duh– he’s dead but the deaths are also very quick like the stabbings from angels or the Empty swallowing him whole pretty quickly after the love confession. Even when Castiel was stabbed with the spear, even though it was a little slower– it was evident that it wasn’t by much.

But, what if Castiel was suffering from a poison that would take days to kill him. Maybe even weeks?

I had this idea where it’s set in season 13 with the apocalypse hunters because that was the best way I could come up with for why this sort’ve poison even exists in the first place but like I said, if you wanna steal it this idea you come up with whatever origin for the poison you want.

But the gist is the poison was specifically designed to kill angels in the most brutal way possible by turning their own grace into something deadly and essentially becomes the poison. The worst part– once the grace has been corrupted like this it cannot be extracted from the angel.

So their grace is killing them slowly and burning them from the inside out and feels like torture the entire time because it’s basically like if your blood was replaced with acid. You can’t do anything about it other than to wait to die.

And Cas starts suffering from this– likely from an enemy who hates him or just hates angels in general and sees them all as threats to humanity. Point is, Cas’ grace gets corrupted from this and Dean has to witness Castiel slowly die in front of him.

This has never happened before. Cas has never been sick to begin with, let alone this kind of sick where they know it’s gonna end in death. Dean’s freaking out and trying to figure out a way to save him.

(In my head, there is an elixir Rowena cooks up to save Castiel but they have no clue on whether it’ll work or not and worst of all– it feels like acid for Castiel to drink and there’s a lot of it. Too much of it. Like an entire gallon or MORE for Cas to drink like this and Dean pretty much has to force him to get it down because he doesn’t want Cas to die and if there’s a chance this thing will work, he’ll try. But he hates seeing Castiel in even more pain from taking this medicine.)

Anyways, it’s hopeless and Cas is getting worse and worse. Eventually Castiel knows his time is coming to an end and things are only gonna get uglier for him. He says his goodbyes to Jack, not wanting Jack to see him get worse. He says goodbye to Sam.

And Dean stays by his side, even laying down in bed with him despite the sweat and odor. He doesn’t care because this is Cas and he’s not leaving his side until the very end.

With Cas dying as slow as he is, he confesses his love for Dean and he doesn’t want Dean to say anything about it. Because however Dean answers, anything Dean could say in response to that, won’t make him very happy.

And based on how Dean’s been acting throughout Castiel’s sickness, the way he’s never seen Dean act about anyone– Cas thinks maybe, just maybe Dean does feel the same way back and that’s terrible. Because the idea of Dean loving Castiel back when he is on death’s door, will not make Cas happy.

But he still confesses because all he wants is for Dean to know he’s loved and deserves all the things he thinks he doesn’t.

Cas dies.

Dean sobs.

Dean doesn’t leave Cas’ side, still holding him like he did when he was alive. It’s horrible. Feeling Cas’ skin go from searing hot to cold. It’s the worst thing he’s ever experienced, feeling the life leaving Cas’ body. All evidence he was breathing only minutes ago. Hours ago…

Cas comes back to life somehow. But now with the knowledge of how much Dean cares, how much he really cares for him and that’s something he doesn’t want to ignore.

Why does Mayu dislike Kokomo?

I wouldn't really say she dislikes Komomo so much as she's disappointed in Komomo, which is of course worse.

There are a few wrestlers in Stardom right now whose like, defining character trait is how much they LOVE WRESTLING, just as like, as a physical artform, the techniques, the matches, the fighting. That's not Komomo. Momo loves Stardom, specifically Stars, extra-specifically Stars from around 2018-19, when they were defined by Mayu/Arisa/Saki/Tam as the core of the unit. She idolizes that era of the unit a LOT - that's why she specifically requested to join Stars, even despite Tam and Unagi rolling out the reverse-psychology red carpet to try and invite her to Cosmic Angels.

But even out of those four, Saki is her #1, her bias, her babygirl. For a while she had this belief that Stars is SO GREAT that she would be able to bring back all the former members just by asking them, though she's pretty much gotten over that. But even with her Oedo Tai ways, Momo's love for Saki has not diminished in the slightest. She's uh. Maybe even a little into it.

Okay, maybe a lot into it.

In their 5 Star match, Saki said Momo could either have a free signed photobook, or she could have the two points from their match. Momo said "Easy, the signed photobook, no question. And then I'll just beat you anyway." Saki tried to make her give the photobook back once she actually pulled it off but it seemed like she just liked that too.

So anyway, despite clearly being the best wrestler of all time, Momo performs pretty poorly as far as actual results. She's not really a rookie any more, not that she's extremely experienced, but she's been wrestling for a few years and should kind of be doing better than she does; the idea is she basically loves Stardom too much to just focus on the fact that she's actually there now and should be trying to win.

So she teams with Mayu in Tag League this year. It's a dream come true for Momo and she is SO DETERMINED to make Mayu proud. Mayu is... supportive, basically saying she thinks Momo has potential, but lacks discipline, so she's not sure how it'll go. At one point she says "Komomo could be my best tag partner ever or my worst tag partner ever, that's up to her."

They do... okay? I'd say, better than you'd expect from a "one of the strongest people in the company and an underperforming rookie" team. But Mayu knows Momo's trying, and that's what counts. They do get some wins that are decent for them, but some disappointing losses too.

But their opponents on the last day are Team We Love ToSpo, Saki and Fukigen Death, and Momo shows up looking like this:

They actually win the match, thanks to Mayu "I definitely don't pay attention to or care about Saki Kashima" Iwatani pinning Saki with her own move, but Mayu is PISSED at Komomo for going into this match where she is supposed to be her tag partner completely decked out in Saki stan gear. Saki Kashima, who did betray her horribly. She says she's not taking it seriously enough, that the rest of Stars give her dirty looks for this stuff, that this is why Hazuki gave up on training her.

Komomo is gutted. She says this is who she is but she doesn't want to let Mayu down and doesn't want Stars to hate her, so she'll reflect on it and work really hard to make them proud. She enters Triangle Derby alongside Mayu and Hanan, and it's not quite clear whether she specifically asked for that to be their team, or if she's just happy with the team she was assigned. Hanan constantly assumes everything in Stars is great so she's happy as a clam. Mayu is pissed though, and while she seems to feel maybe a little bad for coming off so harsh after last time, she also REALLY doesn't want to deal with that shit again.

Idk if you've seen the gifs/clips, anon/readers, of Hazuki slapping the absolute shit out of Komomo in their match in December, but that's what it was about. Komomo was so excited to wrestle against Stars and got caught up doing the kuma dance with Koguma, and Hazuki slaps the daylights out of her not because she hates her or something, but because she's being a Stardom stan first and a wrestler second AGAIN.

So so far, that's been Komomo's story in Triangle Derby. She's trying SO, SO HARD to squash down the stan part of herself, and is managing to try really hard and wrestle seriously! They fought Saki's team, Gold Ship, in their very first match, Momo specifically volunteered to go first, AND tried to call out Saki to prove she would fight her seriously this time. (Saki ignored her, obviously, but once they were in the ring together Komomo did pull it off!) They also fought their Stars teammates again, and once again this time Momo took it very seriously instead of getting caught up like she did in the past. H&M's lost both times, but Hazuki said she could tell Momo was really trying to win and that's the part of her she loves to see.

But it hasn't translated to success. H&M's are the only team in the tournament, aside from Lollipop, Waka Tsukiyama's team, that haven't won a single match yet. And if you know who Waka is you know their goal is literally just to win one match, so that's a pretty pathetic comparison for the team that has Mayu in it.

And that being the nature of tournaments, that's where things are at now. We'll have to keep watching to see how things go for Mayu and Komomo. Personally, I really, really want Momo to fail at keeping her ultra stan aura down and absolutely explode on Mayu, brutally turning on her and at the same time finally getting the full, complete Stars experience. I'm kidding, mostly, but I do hope she leaves Stars. I think if the story ends up just being "she squashed down the part of herself that loves this more than anything and eventually started winning" that would be a major fucking bummer.

As for where she could go if things do shake out that way, I would accept pretty much anywhere. I think lots of people see her joining Oedo Tai to be with Saki, and I wouldn't complain about that at all. However, if I can be selfish and just pick one, well, there's one team that loves weirdoes who are too passionate about the things they care about, that she's teamed with before, that have her old friend with them, that even invited her to join them once.

I don't know how likely it might be, but there's not a shred of doubt in my mind as to where I hope she ends up.

right so here i am w MORE URIE BALLET HCS

- the first time urie went to a ballet class was against his will

- i wanna say hsiao took the quinx bc the way i see her move in the manga reminds me of a dancer…yeah she probably goes for cross training or smth

- urie was pretty reluctant and not looking forward to it at all. probably thought it was a waste of time

- but he so quickly came to love it. like by the time they were done with tendus (literally the second thing you do in a ballet class)

- i wanna say he was one of those people who didnt think much of ballet and ballet dancers, but after that class he really came to respect the art

- i’ve said before that i think he would appreciate the way it combines all of his fav hobbies - the creativity of art, the athleticism of working out, and ofc we rarely see him not listening to music in his headphones

- but i think what he likes most is the structure and discipline of ballet

- he’s someone who has a lot of thoughts at all times. ballet classes are very predictable and you should be focusing on the technique, so your brain kinda goes quiet. i think he would appreciate that

- anyway after that first class he’d kinda get obsessed w ballet but he would keep it to himself

- his fav company is the bolshoi ballet btw

- after a few weeks of obsessing, he would finally go to another class, but he would figure out when hsiao went and specifically go on different days. or he would straight up find a completely different studio

- idk why he’s so hellbent on hiding this new hobby bc you know the quinxes would be supportive as fuck

- the teacher really likes him because he’s always super focused and looking for corrections

- so the teacher asks him if he’d be interested in performing in the nutcracker with the company they’re part of (omg time for my fav urie ballet hc)

- urie hesitantly accepts because he really does enjoy ballet but he’s worried he’s not good enough and also that the quinxes will find out (again- why???)

- so he ends up being the cavalier for the sugar plum pas de deux, which he’s kinda like ???? because other than the nutcracker prince it’s one of the most coveted male roles in the nutcracker

- he’s also never done partnering before so he’s kinda nervous. very shy in rehearsals but also very cooperative with his partner. he wants to do well in everything so he works very hard and always asks for tips and feedback from his teacher and his partner

- he also finally comes clean to the quinxes about where he sneaks off to every night and theyre so excited to come see him dance. he thought they would tease him, but no one does because they can see how much it means to him

- they all come and sit in the front row. saiko also told takeomi and yoriko, and kaneki and touka so they all come too and urie is lowkey mortified

- he slays tho as expected

also his dream role is prince siegfried from swan lake (bc his fav ballet is swan lake), and he kinda wants to do the russian dance from the nutcracker bc of all the jumps

I kept meaning to get back to this one and then forgetting and then going "oh I should answer that" and then going "but I don't want to be too bitchy" and then - and anyway that's why this took me like two months to answer.

basing this more on novel canon than cql, because that's where I tend to see the comparison being made more often, I think because they're more directly in contact in one specific scene.

so I think why people say this is basically because they see nie mingjue's "xue yang must be punished/killed" and xiao xingchen's "xue yang must be punished/killed" and also look at nie mingjue's relationship to jin guangyao and xiao xingchen's relationship to xue yang and go "oh so they're morally aligned and are parallel to each other :)" and that's just! not true!

for one thing, and I think this is something that gets lost a lot - xiao xingchen does not live within the hierarchy and structure of cultivation society at large, and is in fact not a huge fan of it. he and song lan are actively trying to do their own thing! that is part of xiao xingchen's problem specifically - he walks into great sect politics with the expectation of justice and runs headlong into, well, politics. and a big part of that is that he doesn't have a whole lot of respect for power if he sees that power as unjust or acting badly: despite pressure from the Jin, "neither coaxing nor coercion had budged Xiao Xingchen."

I think then people look at nie mingjue's showing up and arguing for the same and take those two things as equivalent, but they really aren't, because while nie mingjue is younger than jin guangshan and therefore owes him respect in that sense, he is also a sect leader and approaching from a far more equal position, which is why he can get away with actively threatening violence in a way that xiao xingchen...couldn't. nie mingjue has power, even if it ends up not working for him; xiao xingchen doesn't.

furthermore, I think another important distinction between the two of them is around the question of violence. specifically in the scene around xue yang's initial trial (ish), the distinction between xiao xingchen's bringing xue yang back to jinlintai to ask for him to be punished (by the sect whose responsibility he is), versus nie mingjue's attempt at direct personal execution, including an attack on jin guangyao when he doesn't get his way. again, some of this is likely based on power dynamics (nie mingjue, again, is closer to equal status and therefore has more allowance to step into jin guangshan's affairs), but I think some of it is a difference in approach, too, and inclination. I think it's also notable that (at least in translation) xiao xingchen doesn't specifically say that xue yang should die ("severely punished" is the phrase), as opposed to nie mingjue going for outright beheading.

so I think presenting them as similar/aligned in this scene, basically, is overselling it.

it's not that I think they would hate each other, or anything. I just don't think they'd be friends, or particularly see each other as allies. xiao xingchen occupies a space outside of the social order; nie mingjue, I would argue, is deeply wedded to the social order as it stands. xiao xingchen has a loose sense of the importance of traditional hierarchies of power; nie mingjue is very much embedded in those hierarchies of power and believes in upholding them.

furthermore, looking at the nie mingjue/jin guangyao dynamic versus the xiao xingchen/xue yang dynamic, I think the idea that they're narrative parallels really falls apart. nie mingjue is jin guangyao's superior officer and continues to perceive himself as an authority over jin guangyao; it is his job to correct his behavior and discipline him as he sees fit. xue yang is a criminal that xiao xingchen apprehends, and xue yang turns around and takes revenge on him for interfering. the latter are much closer to equals, at least in the way they perceive each other, and xue yang's revenge on xiao xingchen is considerably less motivated by self-preservation.

they're just not similar except in terms of very specifically both having the opinion "xue yang must be punished" and being willing to push against jin guangshan to do something about it, which isn't a lot to build on for a relationship of any kind, and I have a hard time seeing them vibe personalitywise.

because I am currently struggling to get my ADHD medication, and the pharmacy tech I spoke today was incredibly dismissive about it

Here's the thing: people act like it's optional. We don't need it to survive, right? It's just a cheat code at life, right? We just want the easy way out, right? Just try harder! Just set alarms. Make lists. If it was important you'd remember. If you cared you'd be able to do it. Make a reminder on your phone! Just start! Just pay attention! JUST TRY HARDER!

If you've ever said any of that shit, I am coming to your house to smash all your glasses and/or put your contact lenses through the garbage disposal. JUST TRY HARDER. You can't see? You're not trying hard enough.

Oh, you don't need vision correction? I will break your ankle, refuse to let you have any crutches, and yell at you to JUST TRY HARDER TO WALK. YOU'RE NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH. THIS IS YOUR FAULT. YOU JUST NEED MORE DISCIPLINE. IF YOU REALLY WANTED IT YOU'D WALK ANYWAY. You're obviously not even trying. This is your fault, you know.

Death from all causes is higher in unmedicated people with ADHD.

The number of car accidents is higher among unmedicated people with ADHD.

If we lose our jobs (because we can't focus/can't start tasks/can't remember anything for longer than 1.5 seconds because we don't have our medication) we become drains on the people who love us, social welfare (...what little exists), and/or become homeless. The vast majority of people you know who just can't seem to get their shit together and keep doing dumb things probably have undiagnosed and/or untreated ADHD.

"I don't understand how someone so smart is doing so badly. I don't understand how you keep being late despite all the warnings we've given you. I don't understand why you're so careless and keep losing things. I don't understand why you monopolize conversations and talk so much. I don't understand why you can't pay attention. I don't understand why you can't do something this simple. I don't understand why you won't do your homework. I don't understand why your house is such a mess. I don't understand why you're failing when you're this intelligent. It isn't that hard."

I'm tired.

I'm so fucking tired.

I am so fucking tired of living life on hard mode.

I have known for years now that my entire life is dependent on access to 10mg, 3x a day, of a specific brand of a specific amphetamine cocktail, and that access to it could be yanked out from under me at any moment, and nobody but me (and a few people who love me) would care.

Because ADHD isn't real, right? You just need to try harder.

Fanfic Asks for the New Year!

(1.) Do you have a word-count goal for the upcoming year?

Absolutely not lol, I mean it’d be nice to get back into writing and finishing a long form original novel piece at some point (brain stalled with SbS but I guess technically with 60k words done it could count as one novel out of three maaaybe) and I’d ideally like to cultivate a consistent writing habit that’s daily or weekly but I am not good at discipline or habits

And also I’m not feeling long form multichaptered pieces right now, but I want to feel it again and I am afraid the only way to feel it is to force it and I am lazy right now after graduating for the second time in my life

(3.) Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

Not really because in relative terms I’ve only recently started really writing for the 26 Eight-Year-Olds Napoleon’s Marshalate fandom, (very proud of my last fic which is Peak Cad Weird Poetic Rambling) because only small obscure fandoms tickle my brain and long dead French generals have hijacked my brain with all their drama, tragedy and comedy. Why did nobody tell me before now that dead Frenchmen were so entertaining and catty bitches to each other

(13.) Aside from fanfic, are there any other fan works you’d like to try creating? Fanart, or fanvids, gifsets, or podfic?

Having made the ambitious shitpost of the tag yourself with 26 drawings of dead Frenchmen - because I thought it would be funnier with my shitty drawings

I do generate a bunch of fun surreal weird AI stuff with the dead Frenchmen as inspiration as well, I don’t really post them out of anxiety, but they’re meaningful to me personally and I enjoy the process of creating these works as much as I enjoy writing and drawing - and it is an extended process because I want very specific things dammit, oh man I need to jump back into photoshop to edit and implement ideas before I lose access to it forever

Oh yeah! The other big fannish thing I do! Painting tiny men! I am going to order more tiny men and paint them oh man I want to order this and recreate this painting but tiny and on my desk and maybe on my cat

Probably the big reason I’ve been writing a tiny bit more is because I’m away from home temporarily and thus away from my paints and tiny men and I can’t just default to painting tiny men all the time and honestly painting tiny men has taken over my life a bit I love them so much and I want to get someone I know to take Good Quality Photos of them
