If people make cutesy posts about growing food and herb spirals and composting but never talk about stuff like preventing and getting rid of rats in a garden, I get this suspision that they either haven't actually gardened much or they're more interested in presenting an aesthetically pleasing image than in actually preparing people to deal with a garden.

The Batfamily all have “go” bags hidden around Gotham. Just in case things go south and they need to bail. Or resupply.
The contents range from “incredibly sensible” (Bruce, Alfred, Duke and Barbara) to “weird but useful” (Damian and Cass) to “why the fuck would you bring that to the zombie apocalypse?” (Dick, Jason and Tim)

Love how Bruce Wayne would totally say some astronomically dumb shit like “I’m training my heart to beat in Morse code just in case I need to contact Superman but I’ve been rendered mute,” and his kids would just be like “you need therapy” while Alfred is having a breakdown in the kitchen because how on earth has Bruce stayed alive this long

the icarly writers really missed out by forgetting they made spencer an artist because in reality he would be a part of the greater seattle polycule and that's already a good set up for spencer-related hijinks

Part 2 (ish) of the Ghoap Apocalypse au.
Ghost couldn't really remeber how he had really started to become a doomsday pepper, he's not even sure if it had started out as that. He's always had a need to be prepared though, it only grew as his life was filled with more misfortunes.
He started properly prepping after Roba, the need to be prepared for anything had been stronger than ever then. He stowed away means of protecting himself, finding a bunker to call his own and keep as a safe space. One of the very few comforts he got to have at that time, being sure that no one would be able to get to him in there.
Over the years leading up to him joining the 141 his resources grew, and his bunker became more fortified. Then he meets Price and the task force is made, but nothing much really changes in his life until he met Soap. Until he greeted Ghost with a damnibg smile and a pat on the shoulder as if it was nothing. Until he treated Ghost with more humanity than he knew was possible to receive. Until he shows Ghost what it feels like to fear to lose someone again.
Before Ghost has used his bunker mainly to store defenses and the small necessities, it was filled with weapons and non-parishables. During his first leave since meeting Soap, Ghost began to reconsider the things he stored. He thought of other situations he may need the bunker for, protecting himself sure, but also protecting Soap, something that could sustain them both if anything were to happen. It changes from a place made for protecting, into a place that they could both really live in if the situation called for it.
And suddenly, his bunker is being filled with more things for general comfort instead of strict necessities. Things that he knows Soap would appricate to have, things he knows that Johnny likes.
He questions himself a few times over what he's doing, if it's really worth it at all to organize his bunker like this, to keep contributing to it at all.
He finds the answer to those questions easily when the world goes to shit, and he does end up bringing Soap with him. When Soap's eyes fall on all the things he brought specifically for him, and the largest smile spreads on his face despite all the odds.
Yeah. It's always been worth it.
I planned to go a different direction with this entirely but its been sitting in my drafts for FAR too long so I'm just giving this out to the world freely now

Blindness to material realities, unfortunately, is not unique to Silicon Valley tycoons and billionaire cowboys. Today, all of us depend heavily on countless metaphorical “black boxes,” from phones to air-conditioning to municipal water systems, whose production and workings are mostly a mystery to us. Furthermore, writes Vaclav Smil in his 2022 book How the World Really Works, the material and energetic underpinnings of civilization are of much less interest to most people these days than “the world of information, data, and images.” Accordingly, he writes, the greatest economic rewards go to work that’s “completely removed from the material realities of life on earth.” Therefore, it’s only natural that Silicon Valley types “believe that these electronic flows will make those quaint old material necessities unnecessary,” and that “‘dematerialization,’ powered by artificial intelligence, will end our dependence on shaped masses of metals and processed minerals, and eventually we might even do without the Earth’s environment.” Let them go ahead and think that, because, as my late mother would have said, “they’ve got another think comin’.”
[...]
In short, there’s no refuge from material facts. The only way that we humans can live within nature’s resource restraints and ecological boundaries is to redirect our economies toward meeting all people’s basic needs, and away from producing material overabundance. We have no choice but to converge on an equitable, modest level of energy and resource use that’s enough to provide a decent life for all.

I wanted to use this space to unload my frustration. Today my frustration level is beyond anything I had ever thought it could be. Frustration vs Stress. Which is it?
Does anyone read these blogs actually? I have a feeling I’m talking to myself.
Today I’d like to cover something that’s becoming more of a reality. I’m concerned that the next few weeks we may be more susceptible to a home invasion. With world affairs and the way it’s leaning, I think many are getting more desperate. People are getting more hungry, more unhinged and soon it will be a free for all. Maybe not in two weeks but soon.
How have you fortified your home? Don’t you want to protect your family, yourself or your lifestyle? Take the time and take care of those little things that will help protect you. Here are a few ideas.
1. Fortify the front and back door with long nails or screws
2. Put up solar motion detectors outside around perimeter
3. Put duct tape in an X in your windows so if they break they won’t shatter
4. Sandbag your windows that are accessible
5. Put dowels in windows, leave no room to get it
6. Put bars over windows if possible
7. Get a fire extinguisher for possible fires inside and out
8. Get protection immediately (yes I mean pew pew)
9. Make sure you have a first aid bag fully stocked
10. Put in a battery operated security system
