I already knew the new 52 batfam timeline sucks but having them side by side in my timeline spreadsheets really hones it in. They really tried to fit ALL of the Robins (minus Steph) into a time span that is barely longer than how long just Tim was Robin in-universe before Flashpoint.
The Dark Knight is my favorite superhero, so it would be remiss of me to let the day pass without honoring him! To represent, here are some pictures of my favorite animated versions of the Caped Crusader!🦇❤️ (Mostly animation designs by Bruce Timm)
These animated Bats were chosen also, because they're voiced by 3 of my favorite voice actors who gave life to Batman! It should come as no surprise that I would choose to mostly represent those voiced by Kevin Conroy, as he is THE VOICE I associate most with the World's Greatest Detective!
Jason O'Mara & Bruce Greenwood and their respective Batmans, are very different, but in all the best ways! Through them, we get to see how they interpreted Batman and how they chose to bring him to life in new ways! They're fantastic editions to not only the DCU, but also to the wide range of men who have 'been' Batman before them and to those who have and will come after!
I just had to log off Discord because of rampant Alfred Pennyworth hate in the chat (seriously, what?) and so now I want some good Alfie content! Reblog with your favorite panels, lines, headcanons, vaguely remembered facts, hopes, whatever. Let's just show some love for Gotham's best grandpa
I'll start! I adore all canon and fanon where Alfred is an absolute badass, very sarcastic, and by far the only one in the house with any sense. Also these panels from Batman Adventures: the Lost Years #1 just might be my favorite Alfred panel of all time:
1.5 miles with my family in the San Jacinto Mountains. Aspen-less, because we took the aerial tram into the mountains, and dogs are not allowed on the tramway.
While I deem all outdoor activities to be better with dogs, my family doesn’t feel the same way. Siberian Husky’s aren’t their breed of choice (they are all fans of brachycephalic companion breeds) and are of the not-so-quiet opinion that Aspen is “a lot of dog”.
Dispute thier incorrect opinions, I really enjoyed being out with my family! Hiking, camping, and general outdoorsy activities is something that has snuck into the family through my step-sister—who is an amazing hiker and training to hike the tallest mountain in California.
We gained roughly 233 ft of elevation. I forgot to take my inhaler before we started and had a few moments when I needed to stop and breathe. While that was a challenge, I felt more capable throughout the hike! I also had the chance to try out my newest hiking snack—squeezable peanut butter! It was the perfect sweet protein boost!
I’m looking forward to bringing my adventure buddy along on the next hike!
Jon Lane Kent and his earth’s Jay being enemies but they’re like, tied together in a way because they’re the only people who the other can’t kill no matter how hard they try. Truly the most dramatic enemies to lovers moment.
I have a whole prompt check below the cut:
Jon Lane Kent(Laney) was taken by this dude named Harvest who hates metas from Lois & Clark when he was around 4 and raised him to hate and kill metas(this part’s canon, the following isn’t).
Jay’s a posthuman and he’s working with The Revolutionaries to protect metas and posthumans around the world. He’s the one they send out to distract Laney because Laney can’t stop or kill him, but he’s trying very hard to do it every time they face each other. In the process, Laney & Jay sorta get attached in that people keep dying around them. Jay has to kill people who are siding with Laney & are coming after those on his side. Laney kills just metas in general. At the end of every battle it’s just them left alone so they’re both like “I’m the one who’s earned the right to kill you”.
Anyways shit happens in canon where Laney gets to see regular earth where nothing bad happened and realizes that killing metas and working for Harvest was a bad thing.
In this AU, he returns home, gives up and just goes into hiding. Jay also did the same some time before Jon was gone. They run into each other way later on accident and ask why both of them stopped. Jay stopped because he didn’t want to keep leading people to their deaths.
Then they talk and become friends and then at some point become lovers. The end.
Week 33.5/52: August 14th - August 20th 2023 | KBBQ with Vicky ✂️
Long time no kbbq so... here we are LOL. I swear to god I need to eat a bigger variety of food in 2024... Weekend flies by so fast. I barely caught up on sleep and now it's time to go back to work again. Gaaah. Anyway, Sunday evening was spent with Vicky at Toedam BBQ. Ordered their beef fingers and pork belly. Came with so many side dishes that this whole meal got me soooo full (very worth it though because it was just $29 pp after tax and tips). THIS MEAL WAS FR FR SOOOO YUMMY!!!! One of my favourite bbq places n YVR me thinks. Coquitlam has so much good food... too bad it takes me eons to get here and go home. One of these days I need to just live there and just eat there a whole week or s/t because this is getting ridonculous.
Shut Up Amazo 2? (ft.Parasite) | My Adventures with Superman-Kun
Do I believe it's legit? 900% absolutely- fuckin not.
I'm a fkin nobody, just how I like it.
Hence: "LESSER"mooK
I found the "coincidence" funny tho,
could you imagine a timeline where this was legit tho...
Think about it. You claim the video, take loose inspiration from it.
Only to miss the point of the original video completely lmfao.
Imagine how cool it would be if Zucker-borg Morrow didn't say anything, kept his mouth shut about the suit function. And we see Superman just scanning the dude mid-fight, taking & slipping punches to size up the suit, all while he's fighting, on some Goku shit.
(Tho unless this Clark has a boxing/combat background, wouldn't make sense that he'd be that good a fighter this early in his career but it'd be cool to see, eventually since a Season 2 is confirmed)
Especially given that a version of him did join the Military:
Since his powers manifest late anyway, say he gets the durability later, and he legit knows how to fight cause he was trained in the American Armed Forces, Combat Vet.
THIS GUY: (My jaw would drop if this happened)
And actually, New52 Superman fights like with intelligence anyway!!! So it wouldn't be GOKU style, it'd be SUPERMAN acc ngl.
Not Wonder Woman writers stealing Cassie’s backstory for Diana 💀💀 And to top it all off Cassie doesn’t even appear in a single Wonder Woman issue in the New 52. They stole from her and then didn’t even let in her in the run for one issue.
Just a pet peeve of mine. The MW2 scene of Ghost staring is ruined for me cause it's used by the fucking anti-woke. I'm talking about Yellowflash and the short he had about the show. Fucking godawful comment section.
Someone told me that they hope I learn the source material, which I am, New 52. I'm starting there but motherfucking Christ. If those are the fans of yore then fuck them. Goddamn!
2022 in review, part 6: comics & manga first reads
1. orcs! by christine larsen (2021)
this is frighteningly perfect. orcs as protagonists, cute (but not too cute for orcs) art, and just supremely powerful good boy energy. (yeah a lot of the protagonists aren’t boys, but i feel like all orcs have good boy energy regardless of gender.) also it’s kinda gay!
this filled a hole i didn’t even know could be filled (which despite being ace is oftentimes what i’m looking for with orcs, hey-o), with the only problem being that whenever i go out looking for more orc fiction i’m looking for this specific vibe and nothing else has it. woof.
(in all seriousness i wouldn’t want every orc story to have this vibe because that would make it less special, but still i want more of this than this and its immediate sequel, y’know?)
2. the witch boy by molly ostertag (2017)
given the title & author i am less than 0% surprised how strongly i vibed with this. this gave me so many gender feels.
3. batman/teenage mutant ninja turtles (2015-16)
writer: james tyrnion iv / artist: freddie williams ii
a love letter to fans of both franchises. this is one of the all-time great crossovers between two totally separate franchises. it might be the best ever.
it took me a minute to get into adventure zone because i was so thoroughly spoiled by the frankly superior dimension 20, but it really does grow on you. and i think the crystal kingdom story is the first one where the comic adaptation actually noticeably improved upon the podcast. the ending especially was just so arresting seeing it in comic form, and it really had an impact on me that i don’t remember it having when i was listening to the pod.
5. superman: birthright (2003-04)
writer: mark waid / artists: leinil francis yu & gerry alanguilan
not only is this the best verison of superman’s origin story i’ve ever seen, it’s one of the best superman comics i’ve ever read.
6. batman, vol. 2: the city of owls (2012)
writers: scott snyder & james tynion iv / artists: greg capulo & rafael albuquerque & more
what made this so special is not just that it was the epic confrontation between batman and the court (and possibly his long-lost brother). it also had two side stories, one that showed that the new 52 version of mr. freeze is kind of a unique twist on the character, but i'm actually way more interested in the last issue of the volume. this issue featured a pair of super gay siblings named harper and cullen row. harper will eventually become the hero bluebird, but for now we just see her civilian life and how she first comes into contact with batman. and honestly, just seeing these two low-income queer siblings existing and being extremely relatable was such a joy.
7. avatar: tsu’tey’s path (2019)
writer: sherri l. smith / artists: dan parsons & jay durresma
basically a drastically better version of the first movie with less human stuff. it couldn’t totally remove the shitty white savior stuff from the narrative obviously since it is following the same events, but it did at least push them off to the side as much as it could.
8. batman: hush (2002)
writer: jeph loeb / artist: jim lee
i’ve been a batman/catwoman shipper since before i knew that shipping was a thing, so obviously i loved this. ivy being blatantly femdommy, and bisexual at that, was also extremely, extremely, extremely my jam. yes please. more of that, please.
9. pleasure & corruption, vol. 1 by you someya (2019)
*pounding fist on table in rhythm to words* more. boy. subs. more. boy. subs. more. boy. subs.
i do wish so many authors didn’t seem so convinced that subby boys always have to “deserve it” by being pervs or whatever in stories like this, it makes them way harder to relate to. but yeah. seeing a boy get tied up and bullied a bunch is extremely wish fulfillment imo. also, loveloveloved the heavy emphasis on bondage, obviously.
10. 5 seconds before a witch falls in love by zeniko sumiya (2021)
a super cute enemies-to-lovers yuri about a witch & witch hunter. hell yeah.
I've been wanting to compile the comics that talk about Laios backstory for a while, especially after reading the "Laios and Family" extra from the new Adventurer's Bible that re-contextualizes it from Falin's POV.
So I'll be posting and discussing parts from the manga and extras that talk about/show his and Falin's Backstory. Spoilers Ahead.
First, here are their timelines from world guide, its a nice way to situate whats happening and how old they are.
Starting with chapter 52 - Bacon and Eggs, Laios tells his and Falin's story to his party for the first time, after being asked by Senshi why they came to the island.
Laios left the village a year before Falin did. Falin was 9 and Laios was 12, they only met again 9 years later when Laios deserted the army.
"That's why I decided that I would never leave Falin behind again. At least until she finds somebody new that she wants to be with."
Then there's the "Laios and Family" extra from the new adventurer's bible:
I really enjoy the recontextualization from Falin's POV. Especially since we get to understand their parents better.
And Laios finally explains that he left so he could build a better life for them where Falin wouldn't be treated badly. Only to fail and realize she was doing better without him.
They both want what's best for each other but they're too silly.
"I thought if we parted ways at that point, I'd probably never see him again. So I went with him, without thinking about where it would lead."
Going back to Chapter 42 - Nightmare with this context.
You can really tell how he feels like a failure.
Rereading those helped me appreciate the Caravan Extra and Arrival on the island from daydream hour better.
This poor guy failed at everything he had set out to do at this point. And when Falin says "Long time no see, big brother!" she really means it, she hasnt seen a well groomed Laios in almost 10 years.
