"American individualism has a lot of problems and can lead to a loss of supportive community networks" - true, a problem worth talking about
"Individualism is a poison and anyone who wants to maintain a level of independence from their family, culture, or community is suspect" - BAD. WRONG AND BAD. THIS IS EXTREME CONSERVATISM DRESSED UP IN A PROGRESSIVE HAT

hit tag limit on the last post cos i started talking about roller coasters again 😔
#toy txt post#wish there was a way for me to like. Do. something. with my roller coaster hyperfixation. but im not an engineer i dont want to design them#thats so scary and i couldnt be a ride op cos im scared of riding most of them (disclaimer I KNOW HOW SAFE THEY ARE THATS NOT THE PROBLEM#I DONT HANDLE THE PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE OF THRILL RIDES FILLING ME WITH ADRENALINE VERY WELL IT CAUSES ME PAIN#i do not enjoy it. but i love to see coasters and watch them and read about them 🥺 and also sometimea i read about. the incidents which#felt like very foolish at first like okay this isnt gonna help me get comfortable riding them but honestly actually it did help?#to see how many of the incidents are like. truly like either freak accidents or someone fucked up#but like the rides safety mechanisms usually are very good and not the reason for an accident. most errors seem to be like. act of god or#like. operator or rider error. and some of the operator errors are kind of terrifying BUT ALSO seem like things that can be prevented#maybe the new wave of unionizing in the us will sweep into theme park employees and make sure theyre paid well and recieve good benefits#and that they are not pressured to prioritize profits or faster throughput at the expense of safety. and (really optimistic i know) maybe#we as a society and culture can unlearn our systemic fatphobia to the point that its doable to turn someone away for being#too big to ride safely without making them feel like shit or like its their fault and MAYBE we'll even possibly just maybe figure out how#to make rides that can actually accommodate larger guests safely so they can participate in the fun without fear or bodyshaming#logically i know theres no way to remove 100% of risk and that there is still heightened risk especially for ppl w various#medical conditions but idk i think we as a society can keep theme parks and do them well. i believe in us.#i should go to more of them....ive been to like. not that many but i do still have favorites#hershey my beloved. i LOVE how visible all the coasters are all the time i LOVE the skyview going right through great bears track#i hope i can go again this yr and see the new wildcat 🥺 absolutely not going to ride that fucking thing but i am definitely going to stare#at it. jenn if youre reading this i cannot fucking believe you got me to ride og wildcat honestly#p sure that rattle gave me a headache and i would not do it again that was a rough fucking ride lol but im glad u somehow got me into that#i have. such a complicated relationship with being peer pressured onto rides lol#like on the one hand i do need that a little bit or i definitely wont do it but on the other. being forced onto comet as a child was#slightly traumatizing and definitely marked my turn from wanting to ride all the coasters to jot wanting to ride anything#to my parents credit on that one they do recognize it as a mistake and were sorry about it like immediately so i dont hold it against them#but also dont. force ur children to ride coasters lol. but i do need to go spend a day at hershey just forcing myself to ride great bear#over and over. fav coaster best coaster. its so fucking loud. its shaped so good. pretty color scheme. its constellation themed#i do love and am obsessed with how hershey packs all those tracks together like that it looks so cool i love to see it#candymonium right at the entrance like that is Extremely distracting very immediately

Anyway, I really like the work The Last Poet is doing on tt to help the strike that Bisan called for. If you missed the post about it here's the gist:
TLP a person on tt who relies on mutual aid to survive. As such, when Bisan called for a strike they had the knowledge of how to organize mutual aid. They used that skillset to help employed ppl who wanted to strike but did not have unions/money to do it. She got some of her other friends who had also built trust on the app to help and they worked together to support these ppl.
And what they did was organize fundraising for 30+ people and as of 2 hours ago, they're only $800 away from their 19k goal
I would like to do something similar next time a credible strike is called for.
I will need help keeping things organized as I'm not that kind of ND so I'm also inviting others to help me or to do this yourselves if you are more capable.
Further this is Tumblr and not tt so it's gonna be a little different.
How it works (generally):
Figure out who wants to help coordinate, who can communicate with a lot of people, to write/explain posts, to track goals on a spreadsheet, rational decision making, etc. Then figure out your collective reach and abilities (like how many people you can all raise money for) and apply them where they fit best. These are your Organizers.
The aid: funds for people who can't afford to strike.
People in need of aid will make their own posts that the Social Media Team then boosts.
As you might be concerned, boosting everyone might inhibit anyone from meeting their goal. So focusing on a select few would is best to help ppl meet their goals. Then we can move on to the next person/batch of people. Organizers need to determine who the Social Media Team should focus on first (fcfs is usually fair) and make sure it's communicated clearly who those specific people are.
The Social Media Team team can be anyone with a social media acct but large blogs should definitely be sought out to participate here. The goal of the Social Media Team is to reach Supporters, people who will donate and/or boost further. Absolutely share and boost on other platforms. As TLP explains: there is no shortage of people who are willing to part with their wealth for a good cause, we just gotta find them
Constant communication between people getting aid and organizers is key so that goals are being properly reported and updated on posts.
The way TLP has it set up: large donations go to organizers who then split the money evenly between the people being boosted. Smaller amounts can be directly donated. Any amount donated needs to be reported to organizers so that it can be tracked properly. When the goal is met, they move to the next person until everyone is helped.
When everyone is helped you can all decide to help more people (if you are able/still have spoons to repeat the process) or you can rest up before it's time to do it again.
And before y'all tell me I can't:
Yes the fuck I can actually, so jot that down.
Who is with me? If we start organizing now and growing our little Tumblr pods then the next strike that comes around it'll be more effective cuz more people will be able to participate. More effective is the goal, right?
Spread this post too. I am not (and don't want to be) the only person doing this. If you're able, please start up something similar within your own circle. We will reach more people and be able to help more people if more people are organizing this kind of work.
If you ALREADY make mut aid posts or share don*tion posts, this is the same thing. Just a bigger, more organized scale. It's really not that scary. And just cuz I'm posting this on Tumblr, that doesn't mean you can't create your own effort on Twitter or insta or whatever. Everyone should be doing this everywhere if you ask me.
Also we could practice this by coordinating with people who currently have mut-aid posts up. Just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we could learn how to be more effective while helping each other at the same time.
So if you wanna be involved or get involved then reblog this. Share it somewhere else. Make your own post about it. Just share it. Consider this the first post that needs to be boosted are you part of the team or not?
Also I feel like we'd find each other way easier if we used a specific hashtag for this decentralized global strike fundraising so leave some suggestions in the replies ⬇️

It’s “vote blue no matter who” but then you get Dems like Kyrsten Sinema, Joe Manchin, and John Fetterman or people like Tricia Cotham and Jeff Van Drew who switched parties and then it’s every excuse in the book as to why Dems can’t get shit done and just “vote harder.”
Dems did know that embracing disenchanted conservatives would push the party further right, and that’s precisely why centrists and the upper middle class liberals were all so excited to join ranks with “never Trump” republicans.
The issue is that voting is great and all in theory. Some of my family is residing in a country where you can't vote so like, having a say in your government?! That's great!
But I don't *really* have a say in my government when all the standard forms of calling and emailing are being flat out ignored. Sure I voted. But now what. Fetterman is a racist asshole that pretended to be "on the side of the oppressed" to get his position. Sinema is.... like that. Manchin is annoying as hell. And what, you're telling me "just wait til next election and they'll be gone"? Like at what point will this endless spiral of "it could be worse" honestly start benefiting anyone.
And people are saying "join unions or organize" as some sort of gotcha... Palestinians have been organizing for 75 years. The whole reason people know so much about Palestine is because we've been organizing for YEARS, have been participating in the system for YEARS. Sure I can unionize. Sure I can organize. But when absolutely no one takes you seriously in your government?? Then what are you supposed to do??
I still am an advocate for voting locally, but I honestly don't see the point in voting higher than that. I remember a comment in the "can't vote out fascism" post was saying "actual physical fascism is worse than passive fascism" and I'm like.... yeah for you maybe? I'm disabled and I've been mostly in my house for the past 3 years because I want to avoid COVID at all costs. Disabled people around the states have as well. People have been dying well before the past couple of months. Are you saying you'd rather have silent deaths than loud ones?
And another comment that really annoyed me and felt severely disconnected from reality was "Trump's Foreign Policy is the same if not worse than Biden..." Worse than funding a genocide...? Like I hate Trump so much and would never vote for him. But I also won't ever vote for Biden.
Also something that "Vote Blue" people don't realize.... Biden's already lost. I'm not saying this to be smug or anything. Many Muslims and SWANA immigrants vote PRIMARILY based on foreign policy. Like that's one of our main concerns. Every single election, we consider which person would be "better" for people overseas — this isn't me projecting, we talk amongst ourselves about it to make a decision. And these people live in major cities and swing states like Michigan in Dearborn and Detroit. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Illinois turns red next election. Many Palestinian refugees after the Nakba and Naksa settled in Chicago and the greater Chicago area. I've heard that people hate Fetterman so much that they're not voting for him next election or wanting anything to do with democrats anymore. Dems have completely neglected the Muslim and SWANA community and that will come back to bite them in the butt.
Like at this point, you should be thinking of what to do when Trump becomes president lol. Actually think about it. Because honestly, you can yell at me all you want and call me stupid or an idiot for not voting/doing a write in — but I'm 10000% sure that Trump is going to win next election. What more are you going to do other than vote?

What It's Like To Get Elected
Has it been another month since my last story update again? Uh… it’s still going.
Anyway, switching to another subject since I promised to talk more politics. As I mentioned before, I’ve been active with my local Democratic party. As far as getting into the room, getting access to important people, and giving them reality checks (and boy, do they need reality checks sometimes), I can’t recommend joining enough. Assuming you’ve got the spoons for it, and your local party don’t turn out to be assholes. That’s another conversation.
I also mentioned I was running for local school board. And guess what? I won!
In a small miracle for this town, we only had three candidates for three positions. Well, a small miracle and some excellent coordination from the local lefties. Because we were essentially unopposed, a lot of the steps of normal campaigning didn’t apply this time. Which is a shame, because I had a design for yard signs all set to go.
I did, however, interview for unions! That looks like a big Zoom call with a bunch of local reps where they ask you questions to make sure you support unions. The teachers union asked me about supporting LGBTQ+ students. Anyway, if you stalk me and find my Ballotpedia page (I only discovered a couple weeks ago that I had a Ballotpedia page) you’ll find two union endorsements. So that’s fun.
So is defending those endorsements and my Dems activity on community Facebook groups when people were under the impression they don’t get involved in local races. Maybe they should ask the county board candidate who swore up and down he didn’t take outside money, while taking $700 from the county Republicans. We have receipts.
Because of that nonsense I was more focused on his race than mine on Election Day. Hearing results when you’re running sometimes works a little differently, as you probably know someone working the polls that will share the results before the internet and news networks find them. So I heard about the local results well before they were published. And yes, I won! And that Republican guy lost. Bonus.
What happens next? For starters, training sessions. The state’s school board association emailed me the next morning with a login for their site. Three meetings in the next month will help get me up to speed: an orientation with the actual board, a gathering for new members in the region, and then an all-day affair about the specific governing model we have. It’s a lot, but it shows how much they prepare you going in, if you’re committed to actually doing the job right.
The biggest reality check came when I went to the next school board meeting, the lame duck session, if you will. For one, when I got there I got handed payroll paperwork. It hadn’t really sunk in that I was getting paid for this. Another is a discussion that frequently mentioned waiting on a vote until the new members could chime in. Or even the kudos from the other board members for crossing the finish line.
Yesterday I took my oath of office. Reading the email I was expecting a small private thing where I do an LBJ-style swearing in in a secretary’s office, maybe a picture. I just had to sign a thing, in the office because it had to be notarized. I was in and out in five minutes.
We’re going from roughly a 6-1 progressive majority to 7-0. That’s great news for our school, even if my first meeting I get to vote on whether elementary school registration fees are tripled, or doubled with the district subsidizing the balance. Thanks state legislature!
If you go in intending to do the job right, it’s a lot of work. That’s why it’s so important to elect people who intend to do the job right. Because so much of this is optional. It’s entirely possible to skip most of the trainings, to take your seat and either do nothing productive with it, or try to push policy whether or not it’s relevant, appropriate, or even legal. That’s how we get bad leadership, and why participation in this process is the only way anything’s going to get better.
(Feel free to use my Ask box for any political questions, including what the hell Democrats actually do at the local level and why I encourage joining them even with all the baggage attached.)

I think what fucks me up about Hazbin Hotel the most is that it was such an internet darling ya know? It started on YouTube as a shitty little furry indie project and had such a strong fandom connection with the cleanup streams and the voice actors being active participants in the fandom's survivability. This shit took goddamn years to go or get anywhere and the only things keeping it alive were nothing little comics and the community that was built around that. The cast was mostly unknowns or other YouTubers which just added to this raw and real energy the series had. It was messy and clearly had a fuckton of effort put into it.
And then it got picked up to be a Actual™ TV show. And obviously that's amazing, duh. I can't imagine how it feels to have your stupid goddamn bill cipher looking ass furry oc(pos) be on fucking amazon prime lol. But watching everything that even got us there in the first place be stripped away and replaced just,,,,, feels terrible honestly. As far as I'm aware most of that came down to unions and whatever technical garbage goes on behind the scenes for TV series getting made but still. I don't have anything against the new cast, obvi they just doing their jobs and I think what they have done is good but there's something so upsetting about The Idie Project Finally Makes It!!!!!! but we replaced everyone with broadway stars and Disney actors lol.
And then the animation is just,,,,, not that good? The pilot has it's problems on a technical level but what it does have is soul and goddamn movement. It's bouncy and passionate while the amazon show is limited and stiff and saving the effort for small bursts to look really COOL and then go back to lower effort. Does it look more polished and "clean"? Sure. But it lacks and meaningful creativity and life. Idk the volatility but someone said something about not paying/treating animators right and that makes complete sense considering the industry we're talking about. Which sucks cuz you'd think that a Real TV Show budget and shit would get you a better end result.
Anyway I think the point I was making was something something capitalism bad something something capitalism ruins all art why didn't verbalase just fund the a complete independent version of the show

oh, absolutely! and that’s why i’m honestly so fed up with these online leftists. they act like they were the first people to sound the alarm on bunch of horrible shit and go all defeatist, completely disrespecting the work of activists and organizers who have been trying to fix these issues since before they were even a thought. there’s this widespread idea that the systems won’t ever work in a way that’s fair because they weren’t designed to, and while yes, the systems were designed to be unfair and awful to marginalized groups, gutting them won’t solve the problem if there’s nothing to replace them with. mutual aid is a wonderful thing and i’m happy to see people talking about it but i don’t think a lot of them realize it can’t replace a system. it can help but it can’t be this thing you throw everything into because you’re disillusioned with the systems. the only way to make those systems better is to vote in candidates who will but these people are so sick of being told to vote they just refuse to even entertain why people may be telling them to do that.
See, this is where far-right libertarians and far-left "burn the whole system down!!!" ideologies once more collide. Far-right libertarians don't want to participate in society and don't want to be responsible for the welfare of others and don't want any rules and definitely no regulations and so on and so forth. Far-left "revolutionaries" claim to want the same thing in terms of destroying the existing system, but they do so out of some misguided idea that either some new and completely perfect system will magically spring from the ashes (spoiler alert: no), or that informal neighborhood-level networks of mutual aid (however they define that, when they're often willing to totally exclude people who disagree with them about the smallest things, so why would they help people they disagree with on everything else?) can replace, as you say, the entire system.
The thing is, if you're reduced to informally scraping along with your local neighbors and have absolutely no other recourse or formal system of governance and/or distribution, you're living in a failed state, and nobody who has ACTUALLY been through that experience thinks, as the Online Leftists do, that it would be a great idea. This is another thing about their total failure to learn from history, or listen to anyone who isn't American, despite the tankies' insistence that America causes all evil in the world forever. My friends who grew up in the former USSR sure don't think their system was great, even if it was called "socialism" or "communism" or whatever terms the left wants to use with no appreciation of their difficulties. And so on.
Basically, it reminds me of when the Brexit loons were insisting that it made no difference to food supply if Britain left the EU, because, and I quote, "Britain is a nation of farmers, we can grow food in our back gardens!" As if the entire point of human civilization has been to bring us back to personal subsistence farming, which has generally been acknowledged throughout history to totally suck and also be the least reliable way of providing for yourself, and also... the idea that personally growing food in your nice back garden in Kent can replace the entire structure and system of the EU single market and customs union is completely absurd. To say the fucking least, and to anyone whose brain isn't poisoned with Brexit Brexit Brexit! And yes, hey presto, Britain is now experiencing food difficulties and frantically blaming it on anything except Brexit. Meanwhile, Sunak finally negotiated a new Northern Ireland protocol with the EU, but it's anyone's guess if it'll pass the Commons, since the Tory backbenchers just reflexively nuke anything that suggests any cooperation with the EU or any acceptance of EU law. Because they want to pretend the EU never existed! (Even though it was Margaret Thatcher's idea/initiative, shh.) Yeah. That'll work.
So yeah. If you live in your own world where facts don't exist, or exist only to support your preferred ideology, and your insistence that destroying the system with nothing to replace it is the best idea... it is, uh, dumb. Which is the nicest way I can possibly put it. It's never worked out before, it won't work out now, and honestly, "I'm tired of being told to vote after I didn't vote and then things went wrong!" is an argument I have NO sympathy for whatsoever. I know things are bad. You know things are bad. If there's a simple, easy way to start fixing it -- and systems CAN be fixed, even if it takes time and is not the instant dopamine gratification of moral posturing on social media -- where you have to participate once every two years, and you don't do it, then yeah. I don't think that person is serious about fixing anything, and I have no obligation or desire to listen to them at all.

my lord seeing all the posts talking about not voting for joe biden like...
im not even gonna push my personal opinion. i just want people to take the time to earnestly reflect about what they're deciding to do
as in. just think "what is the impact of my decision?" think about what would come about if you voted for biden, or against biden, or third party, or (likely the most popular other option ppl want to pursue) didn't vote AT ALL.
then reflect on the actual issues that matter enough to sway your vote. think about palestine. think about queer liberation & disability advocacy. think about the writer's strike and the actors strike and unionizing. think about the environment. the fucking economy. basically anything that's defined the political landscape of the 2020s.
and then circle back to "what is the point of making this specific choice?" in regards to voting in the 2024 election. if you want to make any of these issues better, ask yourself if those changes will be easier to make under a trump administration or a biden administration. would trump be better for palestine than biden? the environment? the economy? even if he's worse than biden in a lot of areas, is there one special issue that could push him over the edge? what are you trying to accomplish with this vote (or lackthereof)?
the reason i felt compelled to lay it all out in this specific manner is quite simple. i want to emphasize something important.
i feel like a lot of people planning to protest their vote for Joe Biden see themselves as possessing a moral high ground with respect to our corrupt political system. by refusing to participate and play the game, you're avoiding complicity in a machine designed to grind people up and spit out their bodies for the sake of profit. i get it. i know exactly why you don't want to take part in something so horrible.
but you DO.
even if you don't want to. you are a part of this system.
withholding a vote isn't exempting you from anything. you are still making a decision. a decision that impacts your life, the lives of those around you, and of course the lives of people overseas caught up in our country's colonialist bullshit
i promise you nobody is keeping score. you won't get extra woke points in heaven because you didn't vote for someone who does bad things. say hypothetically we lived in a country like australia with compulsory voting, and protesting your vote was literally not an option. what would people say then? would the anti-genocide crowd encourage you to vote for trump? vote third party? do these choices make sense??
because at the end of the day, we have 2 choices. we can continue sucking ass. or we can bring in someone else to suck ass EVEN HARDER.
i'm not sure what i can say beyond this much. i get how easy it is to turn off your brain and rail against anyone challenging an opinion that, from your perspective, feels beyond the realm of criticism. these people do not have bad intentions. our brains can't think in terms of stupid political games. we see a man encouraging a genocide running for re-election, and the LAST thing we want to do is reward him.
but the system is illogical by design. (see electoral college for more info.) you can't make it make sense. these people in power aren't gonna buckle to your pressure based on morality or shame because they have none. they know exactly what the fuck is going on. they know what they're doing, and they're doing it on purpose.
if republicans can accept that holding your nose and playing the bs voting game can make the system work in their favor, why the fuck can't college educated socialists come to the same conclusion?
whatever you decide to do come november, just be honest about why you're doing it. whether it's about gaza or trans people or even just the prices of groceries always increasing, it doesn't matter. i know what change i want to see in the world, and i'm doing what i can to help move the needle in that direction.

"But what do I DO?"
With the u.s. presidential election coming up you will hear a lot of talk about how important it is to vote for Democrats, while you will hear others ranting and raving about how wicked and vile the Democrats are and how the left should not support them.
I'm not going to tell you which of those is right. Vote for Biden if you want. I don't give a crap. Hell. Vote for Trump. Vote for Cornell West. Write in "Leon Trotsky" or "Harry Potter" for all I care.
But regardless of if you vote or who you vote for, it's very clear that voting isn't actually going to fundementally change the problems we are facing. It could theoretically make the problem slightly less bad. But making things slightly less bad should not be our final goal.
The next question is "okay so if voting isn't going to solve the problem, what will? What can I actually do that will actually make a difference?"
I will tell you.
Join a revolutionary socialist organization.
Become a dues paying member.
Regularly attend branch meetings.
Regularly participate in organizational activities.
Those four things are the best way you can make a difference right there. We can't organize the poor, the working class, the marginalized without building up actual organizations. Nothing will get done without at the very least getting people on the same email list.
Join an org.
Why a revolutionary org?
Because we have been trying the reformist route for centuries. It isn't working. Every time we win major reforms, the ruling class just waits in the wings, biding its time, until it can eventually rip those reforms back. We lost roe v wade. The New Deal welfare state had been eviscerated. Legalistic reforms are not a permanent solution.
Revolutionary orgs also focus on the only tactic that works, which is grass roots organizing that empowers actual communities to use their collective strength. Revolutionary orgs do not beg and plead for politicians and businesses to do the right thing. They mobilize the masses of working people to hold a gun to the ruling classes head and FORCE them to do the right thing.
How do you know an org is revolutionary?
First of all, revolutionary orgs will often TELL you they are revolutionary orgs.
And second. Revolutionary orgs spend very little time concentrating on government-sanctioned activity such as writing to congressmen, running in elections, or lobbying congress. They concentrate on actual grass roots activism such as protests and labor union organizing. This is how political change actually happens. It is how political change has always happened. The only time we ever win any changes that impact people are when working class people are mobilized in large numbers and are posing a threat to people in power.
If you want to join a revolutionary org, and aren't sure how to find one,
I recommend checking out International Socialist Alternative.
They are active all over the world. Any person in any country, state, or province can join. Even if there are no socialist alternative members in your region they will still organize with you and help you engage in actual activism.
Here is the website for the international organization:
https://internationalsocialist.net/en/
Here is the website for the United States chapter:
https://www.socialistalternative.org/
And here is the website for the England Wales and Scotland chapter:
https://socialistalternative.info/
You do not have to sit back and watch the ruling class inflict evil upon us. You do not have to resign yourself to voting in elections once every few years hoping and praying the new politician will be slightly less vile than the previous one. You CAN fight back.
But you cannot fight by yourself.
Join an org.

I have a question for you: I am currently employed by my university as student assistant in the department of ancient history and there is a union (that one of my friends/colleagues is a part of) that is planning a strike for better wages and general working conditions in autumn (across the country).
The thing is, I'd love to participate but I am scared that if not all student assistants in the DoAH will participate, this will reflect badly on me as a worker. Since our department is very small, we all know each other and part of getting a job (or keeping it for that matter) is being noticed by the teachers/professors. One of them is the teacher that I would like to write my BA thesis under (she's also my boss and got me this job because she noticed me in one of her classes)
I am afraid that if my friend and I are the only ones going on strike in our department we won't be considered for another job/get our contracts renewed because the professors will remember us as 'causing trouble'
So basically, I guess what I wanted to ask was how to get over this fear because I would really like to keep this job/maybe get offered another/more jobs later on?
First things first, I can't tell you what to do here. At the end of the day, you're the one who will have to live with those consequences.
What I will say is this: all of the doubts you're having are 1) valid, and 2) what institutions are banking on to keep you from unionizing. The last 12 months have shown huge successes for large scale education unions. That only happened because people were willing to participate. Yes, sometimes that means putting your neck on the line.
You know what you can do to make sure you and your friend aren't the only ones in your department to strike? Unionize the other workers in your department!
If you decide to strike, make sure that you are actually part of the union that is doing so. Does it cover undergraduate student assistants, or is this a grad student thing? If you qualify, great, join up, pay your dues, and go on strike. If you can't join this union, you don't have to strike but you shouldn't cross picket lines. You can and should also donate to the union's strike fund to support striking workers.
The Institution is your enemy here, not the department or individual professors. I've worked for profs who would be understanding if I told them I was going on strike. (Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to work for someone who insisted I work through a strike, but that's my own personal preference.) This professor has noticed you, and hopefully that positive opinion will remain even if you strike.
It sounds like you're aware of both the risks and benefits of striking in this scenario, and now you have to make a difficult decision. I'll close this by saying a little solidarity goes a long way.

different anon! what made you decide to become an electrician?? asking as someone whos not sure what the heck i should go to school for and ive wondered if i should get into a trade
well, before i was an electrician i was on the pre-med track in college, and it sucked. the unfortunate thing about health care in this country is that it treats human needs like a business, and if you want to change that from within you have to participate in the system for years before you're anywhere close to a position from which to make changes. and my heart wasn't in it, and my academics were suffering.
until now, i'd discounted the trades out of hand because from a very young age i felt i didn't belong in those spaces. taking things apart, learning how they work, bulding and inventing new things, that was all stuff i enjoyed as a kid, but i got it into my skin that it would never be a career for me. those things were for the actual doers, not me. i had imposter syndrome for a job i didn't even have yet!
eventually though, as i came out and my confidence in myself grew, i gravitated more towards finding a career that would see me working with my hands and developing the kinds of skills employers can't say no to, no matter how badly they don't want to hire a bulldagger. i started reading through brochures for technical college and with help and encouragement (lots and lots of encouragement) from my partner, settled on electrical work for a variety of reasons.
1. lateral mobility: you can do a lot with electrical experience/schooling. you can do new residential construction, residential maintenance, commercial development, commercial maintenance, special systems, power limited systems, estimation, project management, contract work, get over on the more engineering side of things with electrical programming and design. you can always take your skills to a new section of the field and sink your teeth into some new work.
2. vertical mobility: as you gain experience and hit levels of licensure (apprentice, journeyworker, etc), and learn the job and all the little intricacies of safety codes, you develop more power to curate your role in the field. example; a lot of folks work hard in the field in their 20s and 30s and later find themselves transitioning to kinds of work that is a little easier on the body by their 40s. stuff like starting their own business, or consultation work. this is key for taking care of yourself in the trades. if you're entering a trade that can be hard on your body (which can be rewarding if you can take it! nothing feels stronger than being able to take on a tough job) it's a good idea to have an exit strategy, your knees and back will thank you down the line. building skills in a trade is a good way to secure the credentials to control your job in this way.
3. pay: it might sound a little shallow, but electrical work pays well, and life is expensive. benefits are often good and life is too short to ignore a good thing like that.
4. the union in my area is pretty decent: now as a leftie communist homo i obviously am very pro-union. however, involvement in trade unions is often a bit more intensive and nuanced than that of other unions. with that in mind, there are cogent pros and cons to both union work and merit shops. having access to a good union in your trade/area is never something to sneeze at, and it's a nice option to have even if you don't end up joining. the benefits and collective bargaining options are too numerous to list here, but feel free to look into your local unions' benefits plans.
so my advice to you as someone interested in looking into the trades is to give it a try. many tech schools have two year programs (i am in one) that will help you build skills in a field even if you have no prior experience. otherwise, shop around, see if you can't find pre-apprentice or apprentice work that will help you see if the work is for you!
my door is always open if you have more specific questions!

Emi's Guide to the Xros Loader
Hey it's me Emi! I'm sure most of y'all don't know but I prefer using a rather niche model of Digivice, the Xros Loader, they're not the most common but are rather unique and I think people should talk about the niche digivices more often. After all different tamers have different needs and wants and sometimes looking for the more out there and fringe options may be exactly what they're looking for. So with all that I wanted to make a fun little guide on the Xros Loader cause it's the one I use and know a lot about, so if you're considering getting your first Digivice or need to replace one I hope this helps.
As a quick note before the guide starts, Shoutmon and myself, Spadamon, have been allowed to place comments or extra notes where we deem fit within this guide.
To start like any Digivice a Xros Loader is capable of Pairing with one or more Digimon to register as partners and affect them usually through Digivolution/Devolution. The most basic stuff any model can do. However the Xros Loader has several more unique functions and if you're considering getting one you should think if you're going to need any of these functions.
There's the one the Xros Loader is named for, DigiXros, a rather unique type of Fusion only specific species can actually do. Unlike Jogress DigiXros is temporary and usually can't really be maintained for really long... Like at most a day if the participants are skilled enough at holding the Xros together which brings me to that DigiXros requires focus and effort from all Digimon in the Xros to hold together or they'll fall apart and defuse. Something else to note is DigiXros can be done with more than just 2 Digimon, I've seen Xros' go up to like 5 at a time. DigiXros is pretty cool, normally it ends up with the participants gaining an entirely new body type and powers kinda similar to how Jogress ends up with entirely new species and life stages however as said this is Temporary, think of it more like a Super form.
This also brings us to a more universal type of evolution the Xros Loader can do, Xros Up. This can be done by... I believe almost any Digimon however it's a lot more limited than actual DigiXros. You take two Digimon and combine them however rather than gaining an entirely new form it's more that 1 of the Digimon gains the attributes and powers of the other,
Spadamon and I can Xros Up which gives me Spada's Lance form to use and some of his armor that changes to fit me, plus I get to use his powerful Blue Brave technique! Also I look super cool dual wielding my Mic and the Lance
Xros Up is temporary just like DigiXros and admittedly the results aren't as flashy or anything but it's not something to be overlooked or anything, you'd be surprised what kind of combinations you can get.
And the last thing which has become rather regulated by Unions, now needing a union license to unlock and use it. This is Capturing. Xros Loaders can be used to Capture willing or sufficiently weakened Digimon, automatically storing them in the Loader. This function is partially why Loaders are built with much higher storage capacity than other Digivices, high enough that Digimon can be physically stored inside. The reason this feature is regulated is fairly obvious, it's entirely possible to flat out steal other people's Digimon with this. Anyone who's Digivice does have this function unlocked and has the license for it usually works directly for the Union in cases such as subduing rampaging Digimon or stopping criminal Digimon/people using Digimon from crime.
But in the end most people who do have Loaders won't have access to Capture. I actually do have the license as my job at the digifarm requires handling Digimon of various powers, personalities, temperaments and so on(not to mention also having to travel to and through the digital world to get there as well). Thusly I occasionally end up dealing with fights breaking out or Digimon attempting to abuse others where Capture becomes useful to stop that quickly. Of course Captured Digimon are and should be released immediately when it's safe to do so.
Captured Digimon or Digimon stored inside the Xros Loader actually can be DigiXrosed or Xros Uped with another Digimon already linked to the Digivice without ever leaving the Digivice. Niche but it has come in handy occasionally. Also don't try using that to sneak in more Digimon than you have registered in a Tournament, people have tried that kind of loophole before and been promptly banned.
Anyways that's everything to know about a Xros Loader. I hope I was able to be helpful with this guide or at least just teach some curious people new stuff. So that's all from me, have a good day and if you ever consider getting a Xros Loader yourself I hope this guide helps you decide if it's right for you and your partner(s)

SWEEETHEARTT HAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰
Literally SO excited to participate you can't even imagine.
Ok ok so, it took me two days to send in the request finally but I was busy writing mine and then I needed a few hours and accidentally got into a hole of astrology but here I am
So I would like a 1- stellar union and 5- Venus aesthetic (with the person you match me up with)
So I am an ENTP 3w2 my sun is Scorpio my moon is aquarius and my rising is Taurus. (Idk much about the other things it's way too hard to understand for my stupid ass)
I'm very hobbyless since I pretty much suck at everything, but I do like writing, and art, very basic I know I know but yk.
Anyways onto personality!
Input from my friend - sometimes passive aggressive, seems confident but actually shy, charming
Personality-
Its hard to say honestly so I'll just start with random stuff and see where it takes
I consider myself a very jealous person, and not the cute jealousy over someone flirting with my partner type of jealousy, but the kind where you get jealous over the smallest things, like crying when someone is better than you, being jealous over a pet, and to the point jealousy caused a lot of my friendships to break, i would say im better with it now, ate last I pretend to be happy for someone.
I am very sensitive, I cry whenever I feel any strong emotion, it doesn't matter if it's like happiness, sadness anger etc, and also I cry very easily if someone with authority yells at me like teachers, parents, bosses etc.
I would consider myself sometimes mean to people that try to use me, but I am different with my friends and people that are nice to me. I like taking lead in group works and generally in friendships too like I plan hangouts etc etc.
I would consider myself an ambivert but a bit of an extrovert lean, since I do like hanging out with people and, for example, I can't watch movies by myself yet I love it when Im watching it with my friends, but I still need time to recharge sometimes as an introverted aspect.
I kin characters like - scaramouche, furina, topaz (from hsr) . . .
I would consider myself a hopeless romantic, even though I have never had any crushes/interest in real people (only fictional). I say I have high standards but would fold at the slightest show of affection
My love laungauges are
Gift giving (receiving and giving)
Physical touch (receiving and giving)
My type of lover I'd desire would be someone who can actually put in the effort to make the relationship fun since I can get bored easily (so a person like alhaitham would make me go insane), someone who could make the first move because I am terrified of rejection, someone who can meet my love languages since I really like physical affection and a lot of people don't like being touched so..
My favourite colours are pink and white, so I would consider my aesthetic softcore-ish? Idk
My favourite characters are-
Lyney 🔛🔝
Ei (not raiden, ei)
Nahida
Furina
Aa sorry if it's too much or if i didn't provide enough good descriptions TvT
Don't overwork yourself, eat good, drink water and have an INCREADIBLE day (๑˃́ꇴ̀๑)

1] STELLAR UNION ! ░ you get along the best with ...
KAZUHA !
—kazuha admires people who do not feel the need to express themselves to grab attention. perhaps it's because many of the people he is close to are like that, but whatever may the reason be, he would find you interesting. he would think that you have a great personality that is well balanced and rounded, with equal measures of rationality and detachment. not to say he appreciates your overly emotional nature, but he does find you endearing because of it. he could feel the need to protect you and fight for you and would make sure he doesn't hurt you accidentally.
—he wouldn't mind your possessiveness and would find it cute even. he wouldn't even have eyes for anyone else honestly, so there's no question of jealousy rising in the first place. you would very well find him boring to be around in the start, but when you both get comfortable enough with each other, he just knows how to entertain and amuse others. he is spontaneous when he has placed his trust in someone and would love to be your partner in crime. he would be just as good at covering up for the two of you! being versatile, he would give you the control and go with the flow when you're in a good mood and tend to you when you're upset. he would love to teach you about music and would genuinely love it if it piques your curiosity and you get into it, as well.
AYATO !
—ayato enjoys the company of charming people. not to say that's a mandatory trait to have to make him admire someone, but there's something about a charming gesture that has his gears running. he likes playing mind games and enjoys there's related to that, so if you're clever and manage to do it back, then congrats, yoh have piques his curiosity; and if you can't, then congrats too, because he's going to swoon over your innocence and purity. he is the type of person to like getting to know someone inside out, so once he decides that you're a good person by heart, he's going to be very caring and gentle with you.
—he likes his share of fun too, so being with him when he is free is no less than playing a game of snakes and ladders—you never know what may happen; when he is going to tackle you, crack a joke or take you out for a walk. he enjoys random displays of affection and he makes sure to show it graciously. he would even enjoy being quiet in your presence, just calmly sipping tea or reading a book. whatever it may lead to, all you need to know is that when yoy are under his watch, no harm will be allowed to come your way. he may take your jealousy with a bit of salt though, perhaps that can be something to speak to him about.
YOIMIYA !
—yoimiya loves friendly and extroverted people! given, she likes befriending almost everyone, but even then, when she sees your warm and fun side, she's going to consider you as someone close to her heart. she would love it so much when you would be genuine and honest with her. she would like to be close with you and would enjoy doing creative things with you such as pottery, art, music etc. since you don't seemingly have many interests she would try to get you into something that she loves!
—closeness with her would feel like returning home to a mother or a loving sibling. she would be concerned about you and would guide you if you ever feel lost. she would want to know about your everything and in return she would tell you everything about herself. she would enjoy vulnerability in ypur company and would like to be with you often. again though, jealousy wouldn't sit well with her because she is very naturally friendly and bright and she would try to make you understand that everyone has a life! nothing to worry about though, relationships often bring necessary transformations within us after all, and yoimiya is more than willing to help her loved ones through anything and everything.
5] VENUS AESTHETIC ! ░ your moodboard with kazuha ...

“The Firm is a failing business.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“No matter which "Team" you're on, it's undeniable that a united British royal family would've been stronger than this fractured disaster. For the benefit of the monarchy they all - royals and staffers - should've done everything in their power to avoid this situation.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“One day UK royals will realise that when they brief the press about how much they "hate Meghan" many of us hear they "hate Black people". One day UK royals will realise that when they brief the press about how Archie and Lilibet need to "earn the titles" many of us hear "titles are for white people only". It'll be too late for them then.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“If the royal family turn out not to be racist I will feel very bad. But racism allegations are not something I can turn a blind eye to. It’s incredibly serious.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Keeping Meghan and Harry in their folds would've bought them more time overseas. I mean the monarchy would've still been abolished eventually but because of what is perceived as racially motivated hate and prejudice against a woman and children of african descent the process has actually been accelerated I fear.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Before you say there isn't a racism problem within the Monarchy, remember the majority of the wealth that the Royal Family has accumulated over the centuries would have not been possible without the Trans-Atlantic slave trade of which they actively participated in through the Royal African Company. And they still haven't acknowledged it or even apologized.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“It's kinda depressing how not so long ago we were here praising the royal family for being modern and inclusive and able to get on with the times for allowing an interracial union to take place and now they're just your stereotypical rich old money white family who disinherit, ostracize and punish their white family member for marrying outside their race. Really. Fucking. Depressing.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Willem-Alexander publicly acknowledging and apologizing for the crown's prominent role in the slave trade and Harald speaking out against the racism directed at his son-in-law: forget Meghan and Harry, it's the other european royal families who are determined to make the British monarchy and its representatives look very bad, outdated, anachronistic and "very much" racist by comparison.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“The BRF are glorified mascots of the UK.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“You understand the Firm is made up of people who are not very smart and not very much in touch with the real world when you realise that this could've all been avoided if there'd been ONE official statement released condemning racism and no briefings of false stories to the press to put down one couple so the other could be praised. Instead here we are with half the world thinking the Firm is racist and a rift/war that will probably be passed down from the parents to their children.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“I think the Meghan hate train is funny because the treatment of her and Harry will inevitably come back to bite. The royal family literally allowed the breeding of a hate campaign against the only poc in the family(most of this is racially targeted abuse). Times are ever changing and racism becomes less tolerable with time, racists will LITERALLY reduce and more people will be striving for equality, and when they do… the race conversation will resurface, and it will a lot more detrimental for the institution than it is now. It possibly won’t happen during Charles reign but will surely come back on William; who was directly involved in enabling the mistreatment of his brother and his wife. or even worse; Prince George, who hasn’t even done anything.” - Submitted by Anonymous
““King Charles likely to pay for Prince Andrew’s security” it’s hilarious how everyone was worrying about some outsider destroying the monarchy only for the institution to prove over and over again that they’re stupid enough to do it all by themselves.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Fact: as long as they refuse to condemn and stop inciting (through their media friends) the racism directed at their own family members all politically correct statements on slavery, racism and colonialism will be seen as performative by the people they're meant to win over. *shrugs*” - Submitted by Anonymous
“The plan from the start was to sabotage Harry & Meghan's marriage. They couldn't oppose the wedding because everyone would've known it was because of race and they didn't want that racist label. So they tried to make life impossible for Meghan through the briefings to the press, hoped she'd leave Harry & go back home. Plan backfired when Harry decided to leave to protect her. Funny part: they still got that racist label AND made the institution shaky in all 15 countries as a result. Dumbasses!” - Submitted by Anonymous
“It’s honestly for the best that Meghan didn’t join the royal family & try to ”melt in”. If she did, people would complain about her, as a mixed race woman, joining an imperialist institution built on slavework, which is fair - but you don’t hear people saying that about the white people who marry in. The royal family, will never and can never be modern and progressive.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“History will be so damning of the British press and Royal Family in how they treated Prince Andrew (accused of disgusting crimes) in comparison with Meghan Markle (committed absolutely no crime).” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Way to go, Jamaica! Dump those idiot Windsors.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Harry is the only patriot in that family. The only one who's willing to fight and pay the price to better his country. Everyone else in the royal family happily relinquishes the country to the likes of Murdoch & co, people who only sow division, hatred and fear of immigrants/foreigners, progressives and progressive ideals.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“America, time to replace the BRF with the Dutch and Norwegian royal families! Less problematic and more modern. The BRF is filled with pedophiles, people who disown family over interracial marriages, people of dubious morality who sleep with married people, who groom teenage girls and use them as broodmares, people who aren't really bright and struggle to read note cards and string two words together, people who can't admit racism exists and acknowledge their family's role in the slave trave..Trash” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Funny how the UK is more interested in polling the US on the popularity of private citizens who hold no public role than polling the popularity of "working" royals in the 14 countries that have the UK monarch as their head of state. Let's ask Jamaicans how much they like Charles,Camilla,William,Kate; let's ask them if they even ever heard of Anne,Sophie,Edward...or are we afraid of the results cause it won't fit the UK media narrative that everybody in the world knows, loves&worships UK royals?” - Submitted by Anonymous
“All working BRF royals get their costs paid. Staff, housing, living stipend, clothing all out of Sovereign Grant. Sophie's sucking up hard to Charles and William. They can only pay costs & staff at Bagshot IF the Sovereign Grant continues to fund them. Duke of Kent would be homeless & penniless if he stopped working and didn't have SG funding.  The *only* working royals they wouldn't pay for are Harry&Meghan. Charles & Will tell me you're racist without telling me you're racist. B(a)RF indeed.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“A monarchy antagonistic to the Sussexes hurts itself. The monarchy cites among the reasons for its relevancy today being a unifying symbol for all its subjects but the truth is the royal family have never been more divisive: all the people of a particular race/ethnicity and political affiliation are on one "team" and all the people of a different ethnicity and political affiliation are on another "team". It's very damaging being just another thing for people to fight about in the culture war.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“Peacefully holding up a blank piece of paper is now crime in the UK?  The BRF needs to check their sad little egos and stop trying to shut down Freedom of Speech in the UK. Republican sentiment is rising, The People want the monarchy gone. Charles and William need to accept that.” - Submitted by Anonymous
As a republic campaigner in Jamaica I was really worried when Meghan married into the royal family. I thought they'd try and use her to win us over, have her take on the role of the token black friend to vouch for them and prove they're not racist. I'm so happy they're too dumb and conceited in that family and got caught up in this war for popularity among white people instead and exposed to all Black people the extent of their racism in the process making this transition to a republic faster.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“These "popularity polls" are as real as Kylie Jenner's lips, proof? The Earl and Countess of Wessex are touring the Carribean, not even their paid PR are bothering to talk about it.” - Submitted by Anonymous
“You know it's getting bad when there's anti-monarchy protests on UK soil at every other engagement and no matter which royal shows up...” - Submitted by Anonymous
“One thing's clear: the monarchy, the monarch and the royal family are no longer this unifying symbol for all of their subjects that they've always claimed to be. The subjects overseas clearly want out and even here in the UK all we do is fight over them with most of the left-leaning people firmly on Team Sussex and most of the right-leaning people on Team The Firm. And I'm not even mentioning the division we find among Britons over the royals when you ask people of different races/social classes” - Submitted by Anonymous
“lol at the royals trying to outrun this family feud by making podcasts, launching awareness campaigns or even being CROWNED KING, if you google any british royal the first words you'll read are "family feud". i hope they realise people wont stop writing about unless they permanently and publicly fix this otherwise this will be their legacy. (on both sides of the atlantic)” - Submitted by Anonymous
“The big deal is that the BRF is now very polarizing beyond the monarchists vs republicans thing. Harry and Meghan have more haters but guess what so do William and Kate and Charles and Camilla: everyone is more hated as a result of this war in the house of Windsor. No one is universally respected, liked or popular, everyone is controversial, everyone gets called out and that only hurts the institution and the people whose entire existence and sense of self-worth revolves around inheriting a title” - Submitted by Anonymous
“The British royal family are so basic. Typical rich white family overly preoccupied with appearances who disown a family member over marrying outside of his race, treat the non-white spouse as inferior, unworthy and less than human and disown and treat the mixed children born to that union as inferior, unworthy and not family. So basic. Couldn't be more of a cliché. *YAWN*” - Submitted by Anonymous

For the ask game!
giving u options cause i can’t choose lol
🥀🌸🌵 for Rex, Echo, or Nevaeh! <333
Hiii girly! Thanks for the ask! Bc ur special u get all the answers :))
🥀: darkest headcanon/theory
Rex: most of my like,,, "Rex's dark stuff" is just general clone headcanons because Rex is sort of Nevaeh's "way in" into the clones. so all my Rex angst is pertaining to my character studies of the clones individuality, humanity, rights, and autonomy. and I vent abt that all the time. But here an angsty thought abt Rex's autonomy: I talked about Anakin not always respecting it, but still, we see Rex gain individuality and humanity and, even though Anakin tends to violate it, Rex does also gain a sense of autonomy. Meaning that his body is his and not someone else's and he knows it. And then order 66 happens :')). and all the autonomy he did gained over the last three years is ripped away in abt 5 seconds :'))
Echo: He was largely awake and conscious for the Techno Unions experimentation and modification on his body
Nevaeh: [saturn u did it, u found a way to make me spoil her back story. I will dm you, if u rlly wanna know]
🌸: favourite headcanon
Rex: he is an amazing CO and suuper confident and sure of himself when in captain mode, but put him in any for of social situation ever and he turns into the biggest fcking dork idiot, just stuttering his way through every sentence bc how the fck do normal people even talk? wth man how???
Echo: pre-Citadel everybody thought that he was the responsible one and Fives was the troublemaker. The reality is that Echo was never dragged along on Fives' schemes, he participated willingly and happily and came up with a good 45% of the pranks pulled on the Captain
Nevaeh: She will not hesitate to deck someone actually. Like she is a very restrained and respectful warrior, and a kind person, though she is straightforward and outspoken too, she's never openly offensive. But ooh, you offended someone she cared about? you put your hands on a family member? you try pulling any sort of shit on someone she loves?? you get roundhouse kicked in the face and then punched in the stomach. She will not hesitate to hold you down until you apologise either. Oh you wanna report it to her CO's? Who do you think taught her this sort of behaviour? (Terrans are actually so much more feral than u think girly)
🌵: fact about them in one of my aus
Rex: this story will mainly be helping Rex finding, and understanding, his humanity and the many facets it can have. its going to be complicated and at times even painful, but in the end he's gonna be better for it.
Echo: now, this story is gonna be a fix-it au, but I still think that Echo's story is IMMENSELY powerful and I don't want to take away from that. At the same time, I also don't want him to suffer as much, so without giving away too much,,, he'll still blow up, but the aftermath will be different
Nevaeh: Not necessarily a fact, but I just loved building her culture and lore. I even started developing a language for them and it's honestly been such a fun time?? so here a couple key points on 'Vae's culture :)
There are 6 Tribes of Terra
1. Tikaani Tribe (Wolf)
2. Maahes Tribe (Lion)
3. Namiri Tribe (Panther)
4. Kada Tribe (Crocodile)
5. Nahash Tribe (Serpent)
6. Catus Tribe (Gorilla)
Nevaeh is Tikaani. Tikaani originated on the Terrans original planet, and is therefore considered higher status than the others. The other 5 Tribes live on different planet's that have been colonised by the Terrans (any native species to these planets has been fully eliminated (bc we don't do Mary sue over here (yes, I agree that colonialism is terrible and no, I do not support it)))
Warriors get a lot of respect on Terra, since they offer their lives to protect their people (which is why the clones' treatment has most Terrans like '???')
The next Tribe leader is one of the current Tribe Leaders children, but it's not about age or gender. The next leader is elected by the members of the Council of Six (Tribe Leaders), which is why most children of Tribe Leaders grow up in competition with their siblings.
I've been traveling all day, but this was sooo fun girly!!! thanks for the ask :))
