Korean Song Interpretation: Stray Kids - "BLIND SPOT" & "SOCIAL PATH"
"They only look at the results and success. Blinded by our glowing process. What you see isn't everything. Hidden in the blind spot." โ€“ Stray Kids, "BLIND SPOT"
I can finally put my feet on Han Jisung's shoes. Look at how Stray Kids are getting a bigger recognition lately. Millions of copies of the album have sold. Debuted at the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Topped Genie chart & Billboard 200. No wonder the rapper got overwhelmed by his emotion after "BLIND SPOT" recording, 3rd track in their latest album ROCK-STAR. Bet he didn't expect those new achievements, tho.
But as they grow higher, the more wind blows them up. I've seen a lot of people discredit their hard work. Call them cheating and yada yada. Turns out it was wrong. Stray Kids told the listeners about that blind spot area through "SOCIAL PATH", a song they sang with anime OST queen, LiSA.
"Gave up my youth for my future," said Felix in the intro. Then Han told us more in the first verse, "If it's the youth everyone talks about, I've endured countless temptations."
The rest of the song shows how uncomfortable the path they took to be in their position right now. They describe themselves as "ore in a blas furnace who turned into a tough metal". I love how powerful the chorus lyrics are:

Hey everyone, it's Lynnetty here, but you can call me Lee! I'm diving into the world of Tumblr for the first time, and I couldn't be more excited to connect with all of you and share stories.
Let me give you a little peek into who I am. I come all the way from Africa and I'm a few years old (let's keep that a mystery for now, shall we? ๐Ÿ˜‚). I have a deep passion for reading and writing stories. I'm always eager to explore new talents, whether it's art, dance, sports, you name it. Oh, and one more thing, I'm pretty open to questions, but just a gentle reminder to be mindful of sensitive topics. I want to create a safe space here, not just a typical blog but a place where we can uplift each other and make everyone feel welcome.
Now, let's talk about my love for Kpop. I stan multiple groups, but my heart will always belong to BTS. Some may wonder why BTS holds a special place in my heart. Well, there's this misconception that if you're a BTS fan, you're either new to Kpop or just trying to impress others. But for me, BTS has been more than just a music group. Their songs have touched me in ways I can't fully explain right now. Thanks to the seven incredible members, I've learned to love myself more and see the world from a different perspective.
Despite my deep love for BTS, I'm actually quite diverse when it comes to music. I appreciate good music across all genres. As long as the vibe is right, I'm all in!
When it comes to storytelling, that's where my heart truly lies. I love crafting both fiction and fanfiction. If you want to explore my writing, you can find me on Wattpad and Quotev. However, I'd recommend checking out my Wattpad account for the latest stories, as my Quotev account needs a bit of updating and reorganizing.
I'll be sharing my stories on Tumblr soon (once I figure out how this whole app works, haha!). I can't wait for you all to read what I have in store. If you decide to follow and dive into any of my books on Wattpad, I appreciate you stumbling upon my Tumblr account and joining me on this creative journey. Thanks for stopping by! ๐ŸŒŸ
RULES:
1. Let's keep it positive and respectful - no room for hate speech, racism, prejudice, or any other form of negativity. We're all here to uplift and support each other, so let's spread kindness and love!
2. Treat others how you want to be treated - let's create a safe and welcoming space for everyone. Encourage each other, share your thoughts and ideas, and let's build each other up!
3. Sharing is caring - if you want to repost or any of my content on your account, just shoot me a message and get my permission first. And when you do share, don't forget to give credit where credit is due!
4. Respect the hustle - I pour my heart and soul into everything I create, so please don't take that away from me by stealing my work. Let's all be original and support each other's creativity!
5. Most importantly, have fun! This space is all about sharing and enjoying each other's company. So kick back, relax, and let's make some beautiful memories together โค๏ธ
Thanks for understanding and following these rules! Let's make this space a place filled with positivity, creativity, and good vibes. Enjoy your time here, beautiful human! ๐ŸŒบ

๐Ÿ”ธWith YOU-th, TWICE's 13th Mini Album Discussion and Review
This blog post is formatted with...
An introduction that contains information of the With YOU-th mini album, a description of the rating system, and a warning for the readers.
The actual review of the album songs which includes both information of the songs and my personal opinions.
Each album track review is arranged as such: ๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ Intro Text Body Text Music
A conclusion of my final thoughts of the album as a whole and its place in the entirety of TWICE's discography.
Short TL;DR section of the whole blog post with a total ranking of all the songs in the album.
Tumblr media
I am going to start my TWICE's discography reviews with their newest KR release, With You-th. On their official album-selling website (twiceshop.com), this new release is described as an album that "tells the members' tight sisterhood and unbreakable bond" and that it is "[providing] a glimpse into their radiant youth together" (source directly from twiceshop.com).
The album was released on February 23, 2014. It has a total of 6 tracks, with I GOT YOU being a pre-release and ONE SPARK as the title track. While I listened to I GOT YOU on release and enjoyed it, I didn't listen to ONE SPARK fully until this week (March 3, 2014 - March 9, 2014). My rating system is pretty simple, it goes from 1 to 10 (TWICE reference, get it). 1 being absolute crappy poopoo, 5 being mediocre (won't listen to again unfortunately), and 10 being perfection. Every point increase is HUGE, a 7/10 is a good song but not special... maybe I'll listen to it if my playlist has the song, or maybe I'll only listen to it today and move on tomorrow. Now an 8/10? You bet I'm coming back for seconds and thirds for this song! IMPORTANT!!! I want to remind everyone that the opinions are of my own, and everyone has different opinions. Music taste is subjective, you can enjoy what you like and I can enjoy mine. This is for fun and should not be taken seriously. Another reminder is that there is a TL;DR section at the end that summarizes everything with a total ranking of every song in the album.
Now, here are my first impressions:
๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
I GOT YOU (pre-release): This is TWICE's third original English release. It's a pop song with heavy synth and disco elements (is it called synth-pop haha) with a total length of 2:53 minutes. The song is cute and easy to follow. The lyrics of the song are nice and can be seen both in a platonic and romantic way. My favourite part is the pre-chorus sung by Momo and Dahyun: "No, we'll never fall apart Even million miles apart We were lightning from the start And it keeps me going to know that" This song is safe, as always with English releases. However, if we consider all of TWICE's English releases, Moonlight Sunrise and The Feels are stronger in my opinion. This is a 7/10 for me if I'm just listening to it. The music video though... a 10/10 and one of my new favourites.

๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
ONE SPARK (title track): As the title track of the album, the song mixes TWICE's new and more grown music identity with a catchy tune. It's a fast dance-pop song with lots of drum and bass. The song has a length of 3:04 and has a classic pop arrangement (intro, verses, pre-choruses, chorus, and bridge). I was surprised when I realized that Momo's part in the pre-chorus was the best part for me. The way Momo sang "Bring me the, bring me the spark in my veins. Give me the freedom, the freedom to chase..." gave me chills. Momo's raspy and unique voice added so much contrast to the more melodic voice of Jihyo, I think I might loop the song specifically for that. Overall this is a solid addition to TWICE's hefty discography, and I know that if the girlies go on tour again - ONE SPARK will be a hit for the audiences. For the rating, the song is a 7/10 or 8/10 depending on my mood. I CAN'T STOP ME and FANCY is still that girl if we're talking about songs with a more mature sound by TWICE. I will discuss the music video more in a new post that focuses specifically on it, but it was classic and absolutely stunning to watch. P.S. Honestly, there's a chance this title track might work its magic in my brain and force me to love it, I'll update you if it ever gets to me.

๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
Rush: While I knew that the UK garage sound was starting to pop up in Kpop thanks to PinkPantheress influence (queen), I somehow didn't expect TWICE to make a version of it. Chaeyoung was the one to write the lyrics for the song, and she states that she was inspired by PinkPantheress (queen again omg). The song has obvious drum and bass with a Jersey club rhythm combined with soft synth elements. The song runs for a total of 2:36 minutes, which is perfect for catchy and straightforward songs. For a B-side, this is a strong song. It's fun and easy to listen to, and it was so catchy that it almost brainwashed me. TWICE's soft and feminine voice paired with the beats was like the perfect combo of a super sweet fruit with salt. Mina and Sana popped off so badly on this song, that I almost fell in love with them romantically. I also want to note the lyrics in this song are the cutest from the album. This song is an 8/10 or 9/10 depending on the mood. This song WILL be added to multiple Spotify playlists, I will be looping this song until I forget it due to amnesia caused by a car crash... a car crash caused by me looping this song in my future car.
youtube
๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
NEW NEW: As the 4th track of the album, this song did not disappoint me personally. The song runs for 3:01 minutes, with heavy drum and bass and electro sounds. The beat drop in the song before the chorus hits reminds me of the house genre that hit the K-pop scene by storm during the late 2010s. This is the "brightest" sounding song in the album so far, it's very upbeat and happy. The chants in the song were added tastefully. Again, I have to praise Momo for her distinct voice. HER VOICE IS SO GOOD IN THIS SONG! This is also the first/last song with a distinct rap verse. Jeongyeon personally stated that this song reminds her of music they did at the start of their career and I can definitely hear it! The song is an 8/10, and I need people to add this song as a club or festival banger. I think if I listen to this song more, it'll slowly sneak up and become one of my new favourites. However, I think this song is one of those where you have to be into the genre to like.
youtube
๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
BLOOM: The 5th track of the album starts itself in an ultra-unique way and runs at a length of 3:23 minutes. This song gives a completely different vibe than any other song in the album. BLOOM lyrics were written by Jeongyeon and was considered as a B-side for Jihyo's solo debut mini album Zone. Considering the background of this track, this is the most mature-sounding track of the album. It's a pop track with influence from up-tempo R&B with deep synth and a fast-tempo drum and bass. This song made me think of tracks from MORE & MORE for some reason, as it is a bit more experimental for TWICE in my opinion. In conclusion, the song is a 7/10 for me. It's solid but I think I need more time to digest its sound. For now, this song is my least favourite from the album personally.
youtube
๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
YOU GET ME: The 1st verse of the song made me suspicious at first, but the song progressed more... I fell in love! The track is a dance-pop with synths and a fun bassline. The song has a length of 2:32, and while I am not the biggest fan of 2-minute songs... this one didn't make me mad. The lyrics were written by Dahyun, and she says that this song is a sequel to I GOT YOU. The song is cute while maintaining a mature vibe. I have to say that MiSaMo and Tzuyu's voices were the greatest contributors to this song. Their voices alone helped this cute song maintain a mature vibe. The best part of the song has got to be the transition from the 1st verse to the 1st pre-chorus, and it is specifically that part. I felt my body jump up like a razor clam being dosed in salt, it was so beautiful. This is a 9/10 for me as it is right up my alley, and I think this is my favourite song from this album. It's easy to listen to with a danceable beat. Cute and short, but developed enough to not sound incomplete. Now to address the fact that the song is a sequel to I GOT YOU... the lyrics are stronger in this track and I can see how they connect to each other. My favourite lyrics are "Oh, when I'm with you, I'm the best of me". It's simple and strong.
youtube
๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
Overall: This is a solid 8/10 mini album, there were no bad songs at all. In my opinion, itโ€™s up there with Feel Special and BETWEEN 1&2 mini albums for their B-sides. The side tracks of this album were stronger than the main title track in my opinion, which isn't a bad thing! For the member that did the strongest this comeback... I think I have to give Momo the crown. She absolutely shined this comeback, and I have to say that her parts made the experience for this album! Of course... Nayeon too :) Furthermore, if we are discussing the album as a whole, excluding NEW NEW, it has a pretty consistent sound. I'll say only 3 songs (I GOT YOU, ONE SPARK, and YOU GET ME) told the messages of "being there for each other after everything" and "being happy with each other now". Personally, every song other that BLOOM gave a nod to the theme of "Youth" as well. I also want to note this is one of the best-named albums by TWICE, WITH YOUTH but can also be seen as WITH YOU... they ate I fear!
๐“‡ข๐“†ธ๐Ÿฆ‹ใ€ฐหš เผ˜ เณ€โ‹†๏ฝกหš๐Ÿต๏ธ
TL;DR Section
It was good, below is a ranking of the songs (from favourite to least).
YOU GET ME โ™ก
RUSH/NEW NEW โ™ก
ONE SPARK
I GOT YOU
BLOOM
Also Momo stood out this comeback, along with Nayeonnie (no bias I promise... :3) If you read the TL;DR, heeey~ If you read everything, here's Nayeon being cute!

K-Pop Song Review: NMIXX - "Run For Roses" (with Young K of DAY6)
Tumblr media
What a wise choice to put BAE's intimidating low register voice to start "Run For Roses". It's pulling out a competitive vibe as if there's no going back. I love the "go big or go home" energy from this song.
Turns out, Run For Roses is another term for a famous horse racing, Kentucky Derby. The winner would get a blanket (for the horse) and a huge bucket (for the jockey) that was made from hundreds of red roses. So, I think it's safe to say that NMIXX's "Run For Roses" means "run for glory".
The lyrics were co-written by DAY6's Young K, Lee Seuran, and THE HUB's Frankie Day. They substitute the race thingy to NMIXX's journey (that may be linked to their MIXXTOPIA universe). I just can feel the adrenaline from the first verse.
youtube
Challenge the impossible, yeah, we fight back
An invitation thrown into an unstable reality
With an expression full of dissatisfaction, we're back
I'll burn like fire, no limitation
Blow sweep my heart
We gotta go, woo
Our synergy is in full bloom
So that I don't lose the romance between you and me
Let's run
For the musical aspect, "Run For Roses" adapted country-pop music as the fiddle sound appears in pre-chorus. Country itself is a genre that is deeply rooted in southern America. Back to horse racing, Kentucky is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. So, I can see a solidity of the concept here!
I'm glad that the song not only lasts for 2 minutes like the actual race duration. If I'm not wrong, it's about 3,5 minutes. The dynamics of "Run For Roses" was crazy. Their collaboration with Young K on It's Live with Young K makes it phenomenal. The DAY6's bassist ate the female key and his harmony with the girls was so ear-pleasing. Haewon, Lily, Sullyoon, BAE, Jiwoo, and Kyujin should get more recognition for their amazing talents.
"Run For Roses" is my first candidate for the best 2024 song. It would be featured on NMIXX's 2nd EP, Fe3O4: BREAK, that will be released on January 15th. Make sure you check it out later :)

Did the worldwide sensation BTS truly pave the way?
Bangtan Sonyeondan (๋ฐฉํƒ„์†Œ๋…„๋‹จ), Widely known as BTS are a boy group that originated in Seoul, South Korea on June 12 2013 with their debut, No More Dream.
BTS are known to being extremely talented artists whom have released what their fans call "bop after bop." They came to fame internationally after the release of DNA in 2017. This song is what assisted BTS into becoming the worldwide sensation they are.
There has been many claims on who has managed to open the "door" for KPOP to be known internationally. However, the real question is what actually is paving the way? According to kpop fans "paving the way" means whoever increased KPOP's visibility internationally to all the other parts of the world. Merriam Webster however states the definition of "to make it easier for someone or something." In this sense then the answer would yes, BTS did pave the way. However other fans beg to differ.
There has been suggestions by others that just because BTS have managed to build their own success then they did just that: building their own success and not anyone's else. ARMY begs to differ as they state that without BTS' success and breakthrough with their music, then to this day KPOP will still not been known.
This ongoing debate has caused a lot of tensions among existing fandoms as this debate seems to be neverending. A few KPOP artists have voiced up their thoughts on the issue and the responses are as follows.
"This is your generation now." Seo Taiji (founder of Kpop)
"I believe the group who broke all stereotypes is BTS" Kim Dongwan, Shinhwa.
"The fact that they [BTS] opened up those doors and cleared the way for us, it's a huge hope for us." Ailee.
"BTS paved the way and gave us an opportunity to become more known.." Twice
"BTS have paved the way really well" KARD
"BTS really paved the way for us and other kpop acts." Monsta X.
And many many more.
The most shocking aspect of this was that even the President of South Korea has openly expressed his gratitude to BTS' effort and success. He stated that "Korean popular music has made a leap forward on the world stage thanks to BTS."
Another misconception with this topic is that many seem to misunderstand what ARMY truly means by paving the way. Many have taken it to being BTS taking all the credit for everything that has happened in KPOP as well as discrediting other groups' efforts.
Despite artists themselves expressing their feelings towards the situation, some kpop fans still claim that it is not true. However judging by the above compliments as well as the now booming popularity of this genre, the question still lies: Did BTS really pave the way?
The answer is yes.

Goodreads | Amazon US | B&N | Blackwellโ€™s | Bookshop โ€œI love the world I hate simply because you live in it.โ€ this is truly the weirdest book iโ€™ve ever read. i kind of thought i was going to like it, just from the title and premise alone, but i was a little apprehensive because so many of my goodreads friends did not vibe with this one. but from chapter one, and reading some of the most impressive writing ive ever read, let alone from a debut, i knew this was really going to work for me. i am a bit hesitant to recommend it, because i just know it is going to be too weird and too satirical, and the writing too purple prose and too stream of consciousness for a lot of readers. but if youโ€™re looking for something very different, something thatโ€™s really going to pull you out of your own comfortability, something unlike anything else youโ€™ve read before, i would recommend that book wholeheartedly. the very basic, surface level, premise of this story is that we follow a fanfiction writer (who goes by y/n of course) who become more and more obsessed with a kpop idol. there is a constant emphasis on the idol industry and how harsh it is โ€“ from eating disorders, to being overworked, to pushing your body beyond its limits, to also being stalked by people who call themselves fans. these are a constant throughline of obsessive fandom culture and how that enables capitalism even more, and how sometimes parasocial relationships can feel very manipulative and cult-like. and i feel like this is where the disconnect comes from (besides that insanity that is this book) because either people arenโ€™t familiar with the kpop industry or they feel attacked because they do understand the kpop industry and they feel uncomfortable with their place in it. (and i say this as someone who has a youtube channel dedicated to park jimin and collecting his photocards lol) โ€œBut his first-place ranking made the disturbing suggestion that my imagination, one of the few remaining places where I felt truly free, was actually the site of my dreariest conformity. I knew my feelings for Moon were neither unique nor all that extreme, and I even viewed mass popularity as his rightful due. But writing stories about him was supposed to have represented a higher level of devotion, an elitist kink in the plain template of fandom.โ€ but, to me, this is a book about depression โ€“ and it truly is one of the most powerful depictions of it that i have ever read. following y/n and seeing the way she justifies everything, and feeling so much disgust one page and then so much empathy the very next page, it is truly a roller coaster through a fever dream feeling reading this entire book. this is a story about consuming, yet wanting so badly to be consumed. Feeling so lonely, and hyperfocusing on the one light in your dark world so you can feel like you are somewhat living. this is a depiction of mental health for south koreans (and so many asian communities) where help can be nowhere to be found, both professionally and from your family. (and additionally, lack of resources, lack of empathy, and just lack of help everywhere to help people who need help be able to have access to help โ€“ from our young to our elderly!) and how industries, marketing, and capitalism will prey on individuals trying to live their lives escaping. and this is a story about giving yourself wholly to something so itโ€™s all not for nothing. โ€œFor the first time, I doubted the singularity of my love and thereby its truth. I glimpsed a future where I felt nothing for Moon, as one did, with both relief and melancholy, on the cusp of a breakup. I nearly fainted from disorientation. My love, which Iโ€™d considered, not without pride, a destabilizing force, was turning out to be exactly that which stabilized me.โ€ i also feel like this book is about identity and being a diaspora adult, going back to your home country, and experiencing a lot of feelings that you donโ€™t really know what to do with. loving something that makes you feel more connected to your identity, but then...

About the blog
This blog is just a space for me to do my reviews and to voice my thoughts and feelings about k-pop, this blog is also a safe space for everyone.
I won't do any technical reviews, i can't do that. It will just be some amateur reviews, some general thoughts and experiences.
I will do album/songs reviews on Tuesdays, song recommendations every day or every two days, special reviews on Fridays and share thoughts on random days.
About special reviews : they will be random, it could be a review about a concert, about a song that someone recommended on asks or maybe a review about album concepts and mv concepts.
