okay, since this ask is REAL old and I don't know if or when I will write this scenario (I will, but in the not-so-near future), here's what should happen for Brandon to be jealous of Stella.

season 2 - Darkar's season

when Stella is almost hit by Amaryl's plasma sphere and is sent to the infirmary

(fake) Avalon comes by by chance and feels her energy. It's way stronger than Bloom's (as it should have been all along u.u)

He contacts Darkar and he tells him to "test" her too, to manipulate her the way he is manipulating Bloom. If Bloom is drawn by her desire to know more about her birth-parents and her home-realm, Stella is struggling with her parents' divorce and the expectations that are pushed onto her.

She is poisoned by the darkness and Darkar and Avalon understand she is the one they should have been pursuing all along.

Stella starts behaving strangely. She ignores her friends, flirts with everybody, but not in the playful way she usually does. She seems serious, she treats Brandon poorly

THEN he gets jealous

because something big would have to happen for him to get jealous of her. BECAUSE BRELLA IS THE HEALTHIEST RELATIONSHIP IN ALL OF WINX CLUB

Ohhh, I see that you're taking requests! Could you please write some headcanons for Hijikata and his s/o who's an artist? And who maybe hires Yorozuya from time to time to pose for some practice sketches? I think it could be fun to see how Hijikata would react to Gintoki in such scenario 😁

-Jealous is the only word that can define Hijikata at the moment. -He pretty much understand why is partner needs real life models to practice, but why the Yorozuya? Isn't Shinsegumi good enough? -Thinking about it, Hijikata would never let you alone in a room with Sougo…maybe Kondo but we are walking in a thin line… -So meanwhile thinking on who could be a great model without spiking his jealousy, imagine his face when opening his partner door he found a Gintoki, more naked than dressed posing for you. -It took awhile to make him come to his senses (thanks to the mayo he always brings) and no way Gintoki helped out. -Rather than Gintoki, Hijikata is ready to do any pose, as embarrassing as it may be, not to risk another heart attack. -And it's not like he is a bad sight…. -At the end they even got more comfortable between each other, so win-win situation

Day 25: Gang Tickles

Thomas Sanders is experiencing burn out, and needs some sort of break. Logan calls up the other sides, having seemingly prepared for this moment a while back. And thankfully, it ends up being exactly what Thomas needs.

I'm a day laaaaate...fuck. Whatever...it's here. Have it. Hope you enjoy.

Thomas had been struggling mentally for a while. It’s been tough trying to keep on top of his new video series’, while also trying to get Sanders Sides videos put together on the side. The man needed a break…badly.

Thomas put his laptop down onto the table and headed to the kitchen for a snack. If he was going to try and feel better, he needed a good snack to do it.

“If you’re looking for a good snack choice, mind if I provide a suggestion?” Someone said behind him.

Thomas turned around, and smiled a bit at the man in the tie and glasses. “Sure.” Thomas replied.

“Crofters sandwich.” Logan told him.

Thomas smiled brightly and pulled out a wrapper filled with bagels. “I’ll do you one better: Crofters bagel sandwich.” He said.

Logan smirked. “Oooh, good choice.” He replied. Thomas removed a bagel from the bag and opened it up before putting it into his toaster. He leaned against the toaster, looking somewhat bored as he waited for the toaster to finish cooking his bagel.

Logan noticed his look of dissatisfaction. “Hmm…It would appear that your daily battle of ‘adulting’ is driving you closer to burn out.” Logan told him.

Thomas sighed. “You couldn’t be more correct.” Thomas replied.

“Though I know a distraction is needed, I don’t believe a day of chores will help in this specific circumstance.” Logan mentioned. “Shall I consult Patton?” Logan asked.

Thomas chuckled. “Sure.” He replied.

“Very well. Patton?” Logan called.

“Hiya kiddo!” Patton declared, before giving Logan a hug. “Kiddo #1…” Patton kissed Logan’s cheek before running up to Thomas. “And kiddo #2!” Patton declared.

Thomas took the hug and kiss, before looking at Patton with surprise, but slight eagerness. “Hi, Patton. What are you so happy about?” Thomas asked. “I’m just really happy to see you two!” He admitted.

Thomas narrowed his eyes. “Uh huh…” Thomas muttered.

Logan adjusted his glasses. “Patton…What are in your pockets?” He asked.

Patton giggled and took a couple fuzzy peaches out of his pocket. “...Fuzzy peaches.” He replied.

Logan sighed. “Okay…” He mumbled.

Patton groaned. “But I was hungry…” he whined.

Logan cleared his throat. “Thomas is feeling down, and I don’t know how to help.” Logan admitted.

Patton looked at Thomas. “Oh, my sweet baby…” He cupped Thomas’s cheeks and gave Thomas another hug. “Not to worry, Logie-bear. I know the perfect remedy for days like this.” Patton replied. “It’s a remedy that’s often recommended by Dr. Picani, and it has a 95% success rate!” Patton added.

Logan narrowed his eyes. “There is no such remedy that could present such odds.” Logan mentioned. “That’s because you’re not thinking outside the box!” Patton reacted. “But Roman, however…” Patton whistled like he would a puppy, and watched as Roman rose up into the kitchen.

Well…more like a cardboard box…but a cardboard box that a wild Roman had quickly jumped out of! “Never, ever fear…For thy Roman is here~” Roman declared.

Logan hummed. “I understand what you mean by ‘thinking outside the box’ now.” Logan replied.

Roman took Thomas’s phone from the kitchen counter and called someone. “Mind coming up? We’re ready for Operation giggle-thon!” Roman declared.

“Here.” Virgil said in front of Thomas.

“Sneaky snake reporting for duty.” Janus declared.

“Would feathers be allowed?” Remus asked, holding up about 10 feathers.

“Spoilers, Remus.” Roman mumbled.

Thomas widened his eyes as he saw the feathers, as well as the gang together. Uh oh…This is not good.

Logan smirked. “On three.”

Patton smirked and wiggled his fingers. “One…”

Virgil wiggled his fingers as well. “Twooo…”

Thomas squeaked and tried to run away, but was stopped by Patton and Roman. “Three!” Roman declared before picking up Thomas in his hands, bridal-style. “Operation Giggle-tron!” Roman declared.

Before Thomas could comprehend it, 5 of the sides had started tickling him! The 5 sides all started off by tickling his belly, earning them a squeal of surprise and fits of laughter from their main man. “eeEEEEEHEEEEEK! BAAAhahahahahahaha!” Thomas laughed, shaking his head as he attempted to cover up his belly. But alas, it was a fruitless attempt. Nothing could stop those 10 hands from tickling his sensitive tummy.

But then, things REALLY started when the boys dispersed to different spots.

Logan tickled up and down his left ribs, while Virgil tickled the right side of his ribs. This alone made Thomas’s voice go up an octave. “WAHAHAIT! Cohohome ohohon!” Thomas laughed, wiggling around a slight bit more.

Roman smiled brightly as he watched Patton tickle Thomas’s very sensitive neck. “Pahahat ihihif yohou somuchas-” Thomas wheezed and leaned his head back right as Patton’s fingers touched down. “PAHAHAT-” Thomas let out several giggles at once, making him sound almost like a witch for a moment. “HAHAHAHA- DAMMIHIHIHIT!” Thomas cackled, loosely covering his mouth with his hand.

Remus had taken out his phone and started recording the entire thing so he had blackmail material for Thomas’s friends. And Janus…oh boy…Janus was just watching all this take place, more happier to both narrate Remus’s video AND tease Thomas at the same time.

“So out of all the spots on your person…what is the most ticklish spot?” Janus asked him.

“SHUHUT UHUHUHUP! HAHAHAHAHAHA!” Thomas cackled.

“Ah, I see. I suppose I’m gonna have to guess.” Janus replied. “So...When I say the spot, I want the person tickling that spot to keep going. But everyone else must stop.” Janus decided.

“Okay!” They all said at once.

“Okay. We’ll start with Virgil on…” Janus looked at his hands in front of him, which were both out in the shape of an L. “Right side.” Janus said.

“Wow…You actually know your right from your left.” Virgil said with a smirk as Logan and Patton stopped tickling. “So tell me, Thomas…how bad is this spot?” Janus asked casually…too casually.

“Bahahahad ehenohohohough!” Thomas admitted.

“Hmm…” Janus wrote [R. Ribs: giggly/10] in a notebook he had conjured up in his hand. “Alright.” Janus smiled and looked up at Patton. “The neck is next.” Janus said.

Patton nodded and started tickling Thomas’s neck. Thomas wheezed, sounding almost shocked as the cackles left his mouth. “PAHAHAT NAAAHAHAHAHAHA!” Thomas shouted.

“Now Thomas…How would you rate this tickle spot out of 10?” Janus asked.

“IHIHIHIT’S BRUTAHAHAHAL!” Thomas yelled.

“I see. Anything to declare?” Janus asked next.

“FUCK YOHOHOHOHOU!” Thomas shouted at him.

Janus bursted out laughing. “Wooow!” Janus reacted.

Patton gasped and cupped his cheeks from above him. “I’m gonna make you regret that little slip-up.” Patton warned.

“Save the pettiness for later, Pat.” Logan said before looking at Janus.

[Neck: FUCK/10]

Janus then clicked the pen and looked up. “Logan, left ribs.” Janus said.

Logan looked at Janus as Patton’s fingers stopped, and his own fingers started. Logan’s fingers were slightly quicker than Virgil’s hands, which made for an interesting new perspective.

Janus smiled. “Onto the last spot: what are your thoughts on your left ribs’ sensitivity?” Janus asked.

“Tihihihicklihihish, buhuhuhut nohohot ihihintolerablhlhle.” Thomas admitted.

“Fair enough.” Janus replied, writing it down in his notebook.

[L. Ribs: Tolerable/10]

Janus clicked the pen and closed the notebook before looking at the other sides. “Alright. What’s next?” Janus asked.

Roman smirked and walked towards the couch with Thomas in his arms. “Onto the couch you go!” Roman said as he gently threw him onto the couch.

Thomas fell to the couch in one fell swoop, and sat up. “What are you-” Thomas gasped as he saw all the sides pull him into a big, cuddly group hug. Thomas laughed and happily took the hugs from the sides.

“So…Was this a good break from adultery?” Patton asked.

“Patton…” Logan muttered.

Thomas chuckled. “I know what he meant.” he said. “And yes…It was.”

Roman smirked as he looked at Remus for a moment. “But a little reminder of Thomas’s little mistake from a few seconds ago…” Roman mentioned.

Thomas tilted his head. “Mistake? What mistake?” Thomas asked.

“The fact that you used the word ‘fuck’?” Remus mentioned, looking down at Thomas with a smirk.

Thomas widened his eyes and cringed, closing them. Remus…Why would you mention that…

Patton smirked. “Riiiight…Thaaat mistake.” He mentioned. “In that case…” Patton adjusted his own glasses and started poking Thomas’s ribs. “Wanna continue the giggle-thon?” He asked.

Thomas jumped and bit his lip. “Uhuhuuuuh…” Thomas muttered.

The boys practically doggy-piled onto Thomas and absolutely wrecked the man once more. Thomas was not getting out of this ‘giggle-thon’ without a little extra playful discipline.

I’m a bit late to the party, but thank you SO much for answering me super fast! I so appreciate your ultra-in-depth response about Mirion and Arvellas’s fates. Although I still weep on weekends, it’s helped me so much with my own story! And all the supplemental headcanon info on Mirkwood as a society has been invaluable to me as well! (Also thank you so much for your update on my Lindir fic! Please don’t worry about the length of time! When I submitted the request I shot for maybe having it as a Christmas present or New Year’s treat! But any time I receive it l’ll savor it all the same!)

I wanted to ask though, are there any writing exercises or prompts that you do to train your writing muscles? I find that I have a tougher time placing dialogue intentionally where it needs to be, and I struggle with showing, not telling. I plan my stories and chapters, which helps me a TON, but I still have issues. I’m coming back to writing after abandoning it in about 2018 because of uni and life. But now I wanna come back, which is why I’m writing my story, but I feel so rusty. Any tips/suggestions on how/what to write to improve on these skills?

Hello Mirthril my friend!

Boy, am I glad I was able to answer your Ask quickly last time, because this one is laaaaate. I hope you'll forgive me that, but I have been pondering over your question since I received it.

My impostor syndrome tends to rear its ugly head whenever someone asks me for writing advice. I am against false modesty and all for giving oneself due credit, so I will say that I am a pretty damn good writer. (And I certainly hope so; I suck at math and most left-brain skills, so this is all I've got, haha!) However, I wouldn't call myself top-tier in the fanfic writer's world. Even though I have been doing this for many years, I still struggle with any aspects of my writing--in the same ways you described!

But you asked so kindly and I want to be able to offer you something, so here are the few tips I could think of that personally work for me, in addressing the challenges you described:

SotWK's Writing Strategies and Tips

Writing exercises or prompts

I actually suffer from having too many ideas, so I don't seek or invite new prompts often. I lean on the endless stream of wackadoo ideas in my brain, or the lovely suggestions and requests that come into my (always open) Ask Box.

I exercise things that I'm weakest at, and right now that's my speed and focus. I currently write at an abysmal 6-7 wpm (about 200 words every 30 minutes). Embarrassingly slow! I very recently discovered sprinting on Discord servers, and so far it's been effective in training me to focus on just getting words down as quickly as I can. I highly recommend it! I think with time it will gradually bump up my wpm.

If you really would like prompts to get you going, there are plenty of prompt games floating around the Tolkien fandom. You can also source them from writing groups, such as @fellowshipofthefics, the one I currently belong to. Their January Trope Roulette, for example, is so much fun! Amazing support group for Tolkien writers, and more importantly--very chill, no pressure.

Dialogue

This is tricky for everyone, and definitely exposes a writer's style and ability to speak in the voice of different characters (I think that's why writers stress about it). You gotta do it with accuracy and range, so it IS a challenge!

If you want to get as close to the characters' voices as Tolkien wrote them, then the obvious strategy seems to be to immerse yourself in the source material. Read the books. Watch the movies (which are pretty faithful, tone/dialogue wise).

When writing Tolkien fanfic, I am constantly browsing through my books (having ebook copies helps), playing the trilogies in the background, or listening to the audiobooks (I have the Andy Serkis versions). It's a little bit like method acting. If you drown yourself in the character's voices enough, you'll actually start talking like them in your head. You'll pick up on the language, the word choices, the pace of the dialogue within the story.

This is the reason I personally don't hop around fandoms (Tolkien only), and I stay away from modern AUs or crack fics. I prefer to preserve that Middle-earth tone and voice and keep it consistent in my writings.

You can also draw inspiration from other period/medieval/fantasy works! My frequent go-to's are ASOIAF/Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon, Pride and Prejudice, and even Downtown Abbey works!

This last one might be extra weird, but I am a writer who leans heavily on fancasts/actors for inspiration. I like seeing a clear face and hearing a distinct voice for the character I am writing. It truly helps me write dialogue. For this reason, I fancast every major character that appears in my fics, and I usually pick big-name actors. Why? Because they have more movies/tv shows I can watch and listen to!

Fun fact: While writing my Éomer fic (which was VERY dialogue heavy), I listened to the first 7 minutes of Dredd SO MANY TIMES over and over just to imbibe Karl Urban's voice--I'm surprised the Netflix app didn't crash.

Showing, not telling

Here's one thing to try: Use "said" or "said + adverb" more often than you think you should, instead of trying to force a substitute. Or don't use a speech verb at all. This will force you to get a bit more descriptive about the characters' specific condition or actions. (Example from my fic: “Anywhere. Far enough to take you away from all this--” Éomer swung out his free arm in a gesture as wild as the fervor in his eyes. “Away from everything that is confusing you.”)

Visualizing a clear picture in my head helps me with the showing, and writing descriptions. Besides daydreaming and staring off into space, watch cinematic masterpieces, and train yourself to use words to describe what you are seeing.

But personally, I think purple prose and lack of brevity is the bigger issue in many fanfics (including my own). We need to remember there's nothing wrong with being straightforward in our storytelling and descriptions, because it speeds up the story pace or at least gives it more variety.

Shaking off Rust

Nothing else to do but just do it, my friend! :)

Whenever I feel rusty or blah about my current projects, I just shuffle over to a different WIP, or if it's really bad--start a new one!

As long as you're getting words down and you're happy and satisfied, you're doing it right.

Lean on writing friends for help and inspiration. We are a community here, regardless of the whisperings that "fandom is dying". It will stay alive and thriving if we keep it so!

Anyway, that's my non-professional, semi-bogus advice regarding things that work for me! Hopefully you can find something in there that works for you too.

SNEAK PEEK (HELL YES!) 'They Who Hide Under Top Hats'- Part XIV: The Ceremony

“Give those back, you little thieves,” said Luin lunging towards them. But both Lidian and Lucy evaded him whilst passing the glasses between each other. Luin staggered back and forth, his vision impaired and his fury growing as the twins laughed at his face. Lucian laughed alongside his siblings. He then looked at the rest of the room. He saw that the table in the middle of the open area had been filled with books, and Elliott laid there on his knees reading them with utmost focus. On the other side of the table, he saw Grandfather Wren, sitting his usual chair facing the window. But this time Lucian saw him act rather lively. He then noticed Mabel Venshire and Morgan Bernstein both sitting and standing beside him, looking at him with fascination as he told them a story with more vigor than Lucian had seen in years.

“I told that lazy excuse of a spy that he was most scummy little runt I’d ever had the displeasure of meeting. Then I told him to go sod off like the rest of them! Safe to say my wife was not very pleased. She didn’t even give me some of our shared whiskey that night,” he said gesturing with his hands as the young ones watched in awe with their mouths open.

NOTES: Hey! Chapter XIV is steadily approaching 8K words! I'm starting to debate whether I should split it or not. As you can see most of the characters in the Demon House get a small piece of dialogue in this chapter. But hopefully I can get it all together within the next one and a half weeks. Fingers crossed! :D
