Awake from the nightmare

Summary: Childe wakes up from a nightmare confused.

Pairing: Childe/Tartaglia x reader

Genre: Hurt/comfort, fluff.

A/n: Sorry this took so long dear anon! I was struggling to figure out how exactly I wanted to write this haha! I had quite a bit of fun with it however, and despite my (maybe) lackluster characterisation of Childe I do very enjoy writing for him. Thank you for being so patient and enjoy! Ao3

The sudden feeling of someone sitting up disturbs your slumber, though only enough to momentarily rouse you to consciousness. It brings you no worry, for you know Ajax has never been particularly subtle when getting up in the night and so you cuddle back up under the covers, hoping for a few more hours of rest. It only takes a moment however, before you realise just how heavily he’s breathing and concerned you crack an eye open, worry seeping into your heart. You can make him out faintly in the dim light of the room, hunched over with his hands gripping the sheets. You could swear that he’s shaking and even in your half conscious state you’re certain the cold is not the why of it.

It’s almost unnerving, seeing Ajax like this, and so tentatively you reach a hand out and place it on his trembling one in an attempt to provide some form of comfort. He recoils at the feeling, obviously startled and looks at you now wide eyed. Several beats of silence pass and you can see the gears turning in his head. You watch as his gaze turns into something more peculiar.

“You’re okay.” He sounds small, and you wonder if he was merely thinking aloud.

You nod, unsure of what exactly to say. You opt to remain quiet, taking it upon yourself to sit up. After a moment of hesitance you reach out once more, placing your hand on his arm. His skin is warm to the touch though in no way unpleasant, and you can practically feel the tension seep out of him. You lean forward, placing a soft kiss to his shoulder and he lets out a shaky sigh, running a hand through his hair before leaning against you.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” the smile he gives you is tired, “don’t worry, I’m alright.”

He leans forward, pressing his lips against your softly. He’s still shaking, you notice, and when he pulls away you make a comment about it, teasing that it must really be due to the cold after all. Your attempt of lightening the mood works, for he laughs in response. A soft kiss is placed on your forehead before he tells you to lay back down, reaching over to grab the blanket before following you. He’s quick to wrap his arms and the covers around you, softly but urgently pulling you into his chest.

Silence fills the space once more, save for the breathing of the man before you, and it grows increasingly hard to stay awake. You think to yourself that you should try, that you should only sleep when you can ensure that Ajax is resting peacefully. But between the warmth and comfort you can barely will yourself to keep your eyes open, so with some fading reluctance you allow yourself to drift back to sleep.

The last thing you hear is a faint “thank you solnyshko.”

Logically I know that in season 5 they’re gonna get new wardrobes and will change out of their season 4 clothes, but I don’t know if I’ll be emotionally prepared to let go of seeing Mike in his letter-in-pocket-with-an-arrow shirt.

EXCITING FIC PROGRESS: after months of being stuck at the important (ie pornographic) bit of the story I have through the skillful deployment of nouns, adjectives, and a few of the filthier verbs, got Blorbo to fuck Blorbself, with the appropriately horny approval of the other Blorbself in the scene who - thank all that is unholy - at least uses a different name and pronouns from the other two, which helps limit the ambiguity of which Blorbo is doing what to which of their Blorbselves.

Logically speaking, I understand that the updates are graphically superior by leaps and bounds. I understand that these facial features are more or less the same shape and in the same place. I also understand that my discontent with how my character looks in the update is coming predominantly from a place of familiarity bias.

But even knowing that, I am genuinely baffled by the notion that someone might prefer the images on the right to the ones on the left. (And I personally think she looks worse/more jarringly different in the actual benchmark.) I do have multiple logical reasons why I believe my preference for the version on the left might not JUST be familiarity bias, but I suspect it would only come across as whining at this point. And I'll probably "get used to it" once this is what I'm seeing all the time - but for the time being, I just can't like it. (╥﹏╥)

I've really enjoyed taking my time (couple years...?) with this game and not forcing myself to run full-speed through the story... but the temptation, now, to hurry up and get to/finish Endwalker while my stormbaby still looks like herself is s t r o n g.

first thing you’re doing in the purge?

Near where I live, there's a road that looks like this:

As you can clearly see from the lines on my drawing -- which match the lines on the road, btw, quite faithfully -- the right lane, anywhere south of road #1, is for the purpose of turning at road #1. That turn is mandatory. If you want to turn at road #2, then you must wait until after road #1, and then move into the right lane afterwards.

However, because road #1 is substantially smaller and less-trafficked than road #2, a notable number of people on this drive choose (perhaps out of ignorance; I do not know that it is malice) to get into the right lane quite a bit before road #1 -- sometimes all the way back at the past intersection (road #0, if you will) -- and then blast right through that mandatory turn at 50mph (80 kmh), on their way to turn at road #2.

Is this lane setup poorly designed? Perhaps. Would it be better if the turn at road #1 was optional? Very possibly. Are traffic designers morons? No - they have a very difficult job and it is impossible to optimize something as complicated as a city road grid for every conceivable purpose. But I admit, I do not see the benefit of this layout.

However, that is the layout given, and the people who ignore that turn requirement create quite a danger for those who are trying to navigate this section of road: they crash into people turning off of road #1 onto the main road, and they crash into people properly trying to enter that turn lane after road #1 in order to make their turn on road #2.

So on the day of the purge, first thing, I'm getting some cement, I'm going down to that road, and I am pouring a triangle in that turn lane, at the mouth of road #1, and I am building it up high enough that even a Hummer can't get over it. If you want to get into that lane early, fine, but you are bygod going to turn where it says right lane must turn right.

After that, I'll pull up all the thistles in everyone's yards, and plant some native ground cover in its place.

I've been trying to tell people for -so long- that ARR (and post) is purposely taking its time to build up the characters, the story, the -entire world- that you're going to spend the next who-knows-how-many-hours/days/weeks/months exploring and adventuring and experiencing and -feeling- through! It might not be "the best paced", but god damn it if I still don't love all the random asides and non-plot moments that just -shapes everything-

#to be clear this is not to say a bunch of story decisions and pacing issues were Fine Actually And Perfect #of course not! the feast while Titan is definitely awakening was odd pacing. the sylphs took way too much long back and forth. f’lhammin;;;#HOWEVER!!!! I am of the opinion that you should play through all of that ANYWAYS #because the things they do and tell you and sneak characterization into within the bits that could have used work are still valuable !#because CRUCIALLY because because — it has Payoff #you are there for reasons. some big some long-term some unnecessary but kinda fun #dark road I think… had less of an effect on me because it didnt have good payoff. I would forgive the messy pacing and uneven attention #to characters they want us to get attached to much more if the end was also constructed better. the end was FUN! but-#look imagine if we’d been with baldr More? They were cooking and it was interesting but the payoff could have used different #(or more) buildup emotionally and attachment-wise. I love murder. it is shock value; not cast interest; that makes it fun #ask #anon #(pacing) I would have to craft an osp video on what constitutes media that does this meandering absurdity thing well and Less Well #MUCH easier to do in a video game where you are the main character!
