Hello Koko! I Hope you had a good day/night, and that you are doing well and not overworking yourself:)
I think I saw that you didn’t have requests at the moment but that they were open so here a little request for headcanon/oneshot with Vox, Alastor and Angel dust separately with overlord gn!reader? (If you don’t take 3 at a time maybe only Vox & Alastor?)
They Thinks s/o is sweet, like they’re always smiling and being kind of everyone most of the time, they can’t believe they would even be able to hurt a fly even if they’re an overlord
but then they get told she just unalived her colleague (they were both leaders of the entreprise) because she wanted to be in full possession of their entreprise, maybe they owned a model enterprise or were music producers (like they were the one selling every musics in hell or sum like that?) how do they react?
(Really sorry if it’s unclear or if something is wrong, thanks for reading my request!)
-🐚
Alastor | Vox [Romantic]
In which you are their sweet little overlord who'd never be cruel! ...Or so they thought. Reader is genderneutral.
Tumblr media
Your company was your baby, your castle, your absolute everything
And for the longest time, you'd always shared it with the co-founder
They had a lovely personality but worked behind the scenes for the most part while you acted on the main stage
Hell, you'd even introduced them to your otherworldly partner, Alastor, and had only told him of the good
So it was in fact quite a surprise when you turned up home with bloody hands and the most joyous smile on your face, almost as wide as your wedding day
That in itself wasn't out of the norm; you were an overlord after all! Alastor knew you could handle yourself, as much as you opted to ignore it
" Oh Al, I have great news! "
" Do tell, my dear! "
When you explained that the company was all yours, he was quick to catch on
Now that, that managed to surprise him
" I really thought you loved the gal! "
Even more surprising is how you'd managed to hide your true feelings from him for so long; he was sure he could have sniffed out your malice
But you were just that good at hiding it
He probably makes a joke about how you could be plotting his murder as we speak
" Maybe! "
His smile falters a slight bit
But you don't notice
Tumblr media
By Vox's own request, your enterprise was kept unattached from his own; merely partners
This was because it meant better publicity if two companies got along so well, but also because he didn't want you to be overcome with the demands of his two co-founders
Yeah, Velvette and Valentino pissed him off to double hell and back, but he considered them friends
A few times, the V's and you and your co-founder would host lavish dinner parties, discussing economic growth and working together on projects
You never seemed to shy away from introducing your partner in industry, and as far as Vox could tell, you were as close as friends could be before anything got steamy
You were just the friendliest person he'd ever met; the number of fans you had showed that, but you'd even gotten favour from the other two V's with little effort on your behalf
So, of course, he was stunned when you called him in the middle of work
" You know you're the first to hear all my company news; I am now the sole owner! "
He could hear you smile through the phone, which almost scared him, and soon your phone was fizzling as he travelled through it
The first thing he noticed was that you were both standing in a puddle
A red puddle
Fuck
Ok
" Thats great and all, but lets get you out of here, and maybe—yeah, maybe we can call in a cleanup crew. "
He is your number one PR team; your overtaking of the company is seen as 'heroic' because you ' fought against a corrupt co-founder'
It surprises him, but he's almost proud of you; you are crazy strong and crazy capable
Tumblr media
Author's Note - I do accept up to three characters for headcanons, but as per my FAQ I don't write Angel! Either way, welcome to the blog (again) shell/conch anon! Your idea is very lovely 🖤

Hiya, I love your writing style! This is more inspo than a request -- but you know how there's posts floating around about how Astarion's disdain for heroics and good-alignment characters is really a reflection of his feelings about no one ever helping him or rescuing him? What if Tav worked that out and said, "I'm sorry I took so long" -- or something to that affect 👀👀
I imagine this takes place in act two, but before you meet Araj

Recommended Song: Your Power - Billie Eilish
You woke up to a startled shout in the camp, somewhere to the left of your tent. You're not necessarily a heavy or light sleeper, but this would've woken anyone up. There was a fight somewhere, and soon after you realized the shout came from Astarion. Sure he could be mouthy, but loud? It's not really his thing. You grab a knife from beside your bedroll, off to investigate the sudden kerfuffle. When you get there though, Astarion has handled the camp intruder, who is now lying dead on the ground. He doesn't notice you at first as he investigates the stranger's bags, looking to see if he had anything of importance.
"Are you alright?"
Your voice sends shivers up his spine. He's not used to kind questions, at least ones without poor intentions.
"No, I am dead and splayed all over the grass Tav. Shame you didn't help me fast enough! Guess you're not so great at playing hero all the time."
At first, you read this as his normal shitty banter, but there's a spite behind his words, bile.
"Did he-"
"Nope, didn't do anything, I am fine! You may go back to sleep now and dream of all the damsels in distress you haven't found yet."
You take a couple steps closer, worried about how closed off he's being, worried he's hiding something from you. Although, that wouldn't be rare of him.
"Oh what, you think I didn't kill him? Do you need to double check? Here's some proof."
Astarion then plunges his dagger into the chest of the dead man a couple more times, clearly tense. He doesn't unhand his blade after, and simply meets your eyes.
"I can handle a spare rogue. Now, leave me be."
Anxiety bundles in your chest.
"I... you seem unwell."
He scoffs.
"It's you that's made me so unwell, so if you want to sit there and be concerned, perhaps you should look in the mirror."
Where was this coming from? You take a couple more steps, and he turns his blade on you, standing to meet your stance.
"Lower the dagger Astarion."
"Or what? I've been through hell already, what can you do?"
"I don't want to hurt you, and quite frankly I don't know why you'd want to hurt me. I've only ever protected you, assisted you in how many fights, helped you how many times!"
"And that's precisely it. You pass along a silent helping hand, sit there and listen to my woes, pick me up off the ground when I'm wounded, and for what?"
You're taken aback. What kind of question is this? Who would ask something like that?
"Because I care!"
"No. Because you want something from me. That's how it always goes, right? I fall into some peril and a kind creature says, 'oh you poor thing, I'll keep you safe,' and then suddenly I am trapped. No, you won't fool me. Kindness is a means to an end, and I will not be that end again."
Your argument has now woken up everyone in the camp, a few souls rubbing their eyes and wondering why you're yelling this late.
"What would I want from you Astarion? We all want the same thing, the tadpoles gone, the Absolute destroyed. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, I don't know how you don't see that!"
"Then why sleep with me at the party?"
He has now officially aired your business out to the entire camp, but no one says anything. You think about the question, wondering what he could possibly mean.
"I... I slept with you because you offered and I thought it would be fun, and-"
"And what? Because you wanted to hold something over me?"
"No! Because I... because I think I'm falling for you."
Astarion is frozen for a moment, because you seem like you're being genuine right now.
"You know I've used those tricks on everyone in the book, right? Thousands of people have gotten the 'I love you' spiel, you're not special."
A few tears come to your eyes.
"No, it's not that. You say pretty things, sure. But there's something about you, your voice, your eyes... you're, comforting. And when you said you wanted to have sex I figured it might be my only chance to be that close with you, because you're so damn guarded. I guess I was right."
He sheathes his dagger.
"I know you're not used to people being nice, but I like being nice! Especially to you. I know you're trying to keep yourself safe, I don't blame you, but what's the point in freedom if you don't try to use it to live a little?"
Astarion meets your eyes again, tearing up a little.
"The second I drop my guard, I'll have the rug pulled out from under me, the other shoe will drop Tav. I'm not going to take the chance that you're that other shoe."
You try to close the gap between the two of you.
"But wouldn't it be so freeing to just try? You know I see it right? Those little smiles that cover your face when you think I'm not looking. Why can't we just try?"
You try to reach out for his hand, and he hesitates.
"It would be so easy for you to use me."
"I'm telling you I won't, I promise."
"Promises are often empty in my experience."
You try to catch your breath, wiping the salty streaks off your face. When you're ready to give up and tell him to forget you ever said anything, he takes your other hand in his.
"But maybe... just maybe you're right. Trying, it does sound nice to try."
You hold yourself back from squeezing his hand, not wanting to scare him off from the interaction.
"I know you think my whole do-gooder thing is a ploy, and I'm sorry that you've been lied to, but not everyone promising salvation is out to get you. At least I'm not, and I'm here now. I'm here now."
For so long, you wanted to reach out to his heart like this, feel something real with him. You go to wrap yourself around him slowly, and soon after, he reciprocates the embrace. Astarion doesn't say anything, and just sobs into your shoulder. You move your hand to his hair.
"You're free now, it's okay."
The audience hasn't seemed to leave, shocked by the rather tender moment they've witnessed from their tents. You catch a glimpse of Wyll crying a little at the scene. When Astarion removes himself from your side, he wipes at his eyes.
"So now what? Emotional vulnerability isn't really my thing you know."
You both laugh a little.
"Whatever we want I guess, whatever feels right.
"And if I... don't know what feels right?"
You smile.
"Then we'll figure that part out together."

Regarding Alastor's Hallway Scene in Episode 5 of "Hazbin Hotel"
Good day, folks! As sweet Mimzy said, "...pour a few fingers of rye and he turns into a kitten" so let's do that. Let me set up my Redemption, and let's get into this.
*Sip, sip*
Now, this is quite an interesting thing; the phenomenon of the reactions I have been seeing particularly regarding Alastor in episode 5 of Hazbin Hotel has been ... curiouser and curiouser.
*Sip, sip*
The big question that I think we should be asking after this episode is who Alastor is leashed to---but there seems to be something else on people's minds and that is the interaction Alastor had with Husk in the hallway of the hotel. I mean, every great character needs an epic hallway scene. For Star Wars it was Vader and Luke. For Hazbin, it is Alastor. Let's explore this.
*Sip, sip*
As a society, feasting on entertainment, whether it be through books or films or a series, fans often say that they enjoy the "villain" or "morally grey" character as opposed to those who are set on their compass of goodness. I find this to be a lie that we often tell ourselves and believe completely.
Sure, we find them more entertaining and thus we favor them, but then we try to find excuses for their behavior, make it a despicable act that is done for righteous reasons. Or because we desire to see someone who is tremendously struggling or has a rather horrid reputation overcome this and prove to be a fantastic character underneath all the layers of darkness. We don't like them because they are bad. We may pity them for they often have the most tragic backstories, or we see the potential of their goodness. But we like them because we believe that everyone in their universe has the wrong perspective of their wickedness while we, outsiders looking in, see the potential of their heroics. What they can do despite everything.
That is not liking a character because they are the villain. That is liking a character because of why they are the villain and how they can overcome it.
A few examples:
Rhysand dressing Feyre up like a whore and tattooing her without her consent: well, he was doing that to protect her and help her.
Darth Vader: Mass murderer and second in command of an empire built on absolute control; but he fulfilled the prophecy of the Chosen One and had originally fallen because he wanted to save the love of his life and his unborn children.
Loki: Yeah, he slaughtered 80 people in 2 days, attacked NYC with an alien army killing hundreds if not thousands in the process, and committed genocide prior to that, BUT that's because he was severely broken and now he sits all alone at the end of time, saving an infinite amount of people.
Granted, I love 2/3 of those characters because of the reasons provided. But also because in their prime they were WICKED!
*Sip, sip*
Now let's look at Alastor.
Alastor, the Radio Demon, and one of the most feared overlords of Hell ... threatened one of the souls he owns. And now, I see people comparing him to Val or saying they hated him at that moment or now have a poor taste for him in their mouths. But ... this is exactly what you asked for from him.
*Sip, sip*
Val, who ACTIVELY tortures Angel Dust, is being used as the comparison for Alastor because he THREATENED and scared Husk after Husk stepped over the line.
*Sip, sip*
Alastor, when alive, was a serial killer. Alastor in Hell captured overlords, tortured them, broadcasted the torture throughout Hell, and became one of the most feared overlords.
He didn't do that by being "nice" or "charming." He did that by being vile and not for a greater good. He did it because, as far as we know, he wanted power. And, damn, he got it.
Demons KNOW to be afraid of Alastor. Granted, his reputation may have faltered because he has been away for 7 years but before his departure and even upon his return, for the most part, demons avoid Alastor as though he were death incarnate.
*Sip, sip*
Now, let's examine him in episode 5. Only the scene that is getting the most traction; I'll talk about Alastor and Lucifer in another post. But let's look at this scene:
Alastor and Husk in the hallway.
*Sip, sip*
Let me put some quotes here real quick:
From the Pilot:
Husk to Alastor: "Don't you [Alastor, the owner of my soul] 'Husker' me, you son of a bitch!"
Husk to Alastor: "Are you [Alastor, the owner of my soul] shitting me?"
Husk to Alastor: "You [Alastor, owner of my soul whom I have just shoved off of me] think it must be some big fucking riot just to pull me out of nowhere? You think I'm some kind of fucking clown? [even though I am contractually obligated to obey your summons]"
Husk to Alastor: "I [the one contracted to serve you and obey your commands] ain't doing no fucking charity job [even though you told me by your order that I have to]."
Alastor to Husk: "Don't worry my friend [you, who sold your soul to me so that you could keep your power because you almost gambled it all away], I can make this more welcoming [providing you with something that you enjoy even though you are contractually obligated to obey my commands without payment/reward], if you wish."
From episode 5:
Alastor to Husk: "It's nothing I can't handle, don't worry, Husker. [Proceeds to walk away, leaving the conversation] Who in their right mind would cross me? [Continues to walk away, posing the question as rhetorical and not requiring an answer]."
Husk to Alastor: "... You've been gone a while. And it's not like anybody knows why---"
Alastor to Husk: "They don't need to know. [And it does not need to be discussed further, so leave it alone.] And don't you worry your fuzzy head about it. [Drop it. Drop it now. Don't pick it up]"
Husk to Alastor: "You may own my soul, but I ain't your fucking pet!"
[Personally, I think Val would have instantly backhanded AD for that alone.]
Alastor to Husk: "Hmhm. But you are [So stop talking, just let it go, I'm letting a lot slide here]."
Husk to Alastor [the owner of his soul, who has slaughtered overlords of Hell]: "Big talk for someone who is also on a leash."
Alastor to Husk: "Aha. What did you say? [Now you have tested my patience too much!]"
*Sip, sip*
In the pilot, Husk openly and without fear insults and cusses at Alastor. And what does Alastor, the owner of his soul, do? He lets it slide.
In the one scene between them in the hallway, Alastor essentially still does nothing even though it is evident that Husk struck a nerve. At least twice over in this scene alone, Alastor gives subtle hints to Husk that it is best he just stops. And it is not like he even dismisses Husk's worries about Mimzy or even his absence. It's more along the lines of, "Oh, I know she is in trouble and came here for me to clean up her mess, but I am a bit occupied at the moment dealing with the actual King of Hell, so I'll get to it when I get to it. Just keep her busy for now." And in regards to his absence, he makes it abundantly clear that Husk is better off just not mentioning anything about it. He cuts Husk off, and essentially says, "Look, just keep quiet about it. It's no one's business but mine and I'm fine, I can handle it, so let's just leave it alone."
All the talk people say of Alastor having a big ego, oh undoubtedly, but it makes sense why Husk is in pride in this one scene alone. Alastor tells him "let it go," and moves to walk away from the conversation.
But Husk pushes. And pushes. And on that final shove, I think Husk even knows before Alastor got mad that he went TOO far.
*Sip, sip*
And Alastor still, for the most part, does nothing.
He reminds Husker that he owns his soul, pulls on the chain just to knock Husker off-kilter, and then, rather demonically, tells Husk to not EVER mention the fact that he is leashed again. Honestly, with what Alastor COULD do to Husk ... that was letting him off SUPER easy. Like, Husk should be kissing his feet that that threat was the only punishment he received for that comment.
Val? Forget it. AD would probably be filming for 3 days straight. Alastor doesn't even touch Husk.
This move is also a sense of security for Alastor, I think. Husk probably thought this was just another comment that would result in Alastor just ignoring it. But it takes Alastor by surprise and destroys his comfort. He loses himself in a fit of fury and pulls on Husk's leash to remind both Husk and himself, "Yeah, I might be leashed but I still own YOUR soul, Husk! So do not test me!"
*sip, sip*
So, yeah, Husk gets scared, as he should. Alastor is terrifying.
Should this lessen our opinion of Alastor as it seems to have done with so many fans?
No. Absolutely not. If anything, this scene provides balance to that paradox I supplied earlier; how we like the evil characters because of the good they could do but we should also like them because they are evil and should be expected to do evil things.
Alastor IS evil. He owns Husk's soul.
And yet, this evil overlord allows Husk to get away with soooo much. And when Husk oversteps, as he absolutely did, to not even be smacked by Alastor speaks volumes of Alastor's opinion of Husk.
*Sip, sip*
Here is my speculation:
Husk obviously knows more about Alastor than most. But Alastor owns hundreds if not thousands of souls. Husk is someone he calls on often, obviously. Husk knows Alastor is leashed. Faustisse, a former employee of Spindle Horse, and one of the original teammates beside Viv for the Hazbin project said that Alastor regards Husk as one of his closest friends. Perhaps not friend, but maybe one of his closest confidants. Why else would Husk know that Alastor is leashed? Granted, we cannot tell from the dialogue if Husk knows where Alastor was for 7 years or even if he knows who Alastor is leashed to. To some extent, though, Alastor must trust Husk.
In this scene, Husk violates that trust. He deserved to be threatened, reminded, and terrified. I adore Husk. He is one of my favorite characters and when I saw the hallway scene, I thought Husk deserved way worse than what he got.
And Alastor still takes what Husk had to say about Mimzy into consideration. He still tells Mimzy, a friend he has had since he was alive, that she needs to leave.
*sip, sip*
Yes, Alastor is evil. And it is soooooo good to see him BE evil. And not for a good cause but just because someone got under his skin. He owns Husk and he lets Husk off very easy. So to see him lose his temper and not even physically hurt Husk allows the nugget of possible, minuscule glimmer of somewhat kindness to linger.
I loved the hallway scene. It did a fantastic job of showing us what Alastor COULD be if he really wanted to, why you shouldn't mess with him, and how he elicits fear.
Val lords over his souls through physical abuse. Alastor does it mentally when called for. They are two totally different overlords with really no comparison to be made between them save for this: they are both evil.
*Sip, sip*
Alastor ate in episode 5 and left no crumbs. He remains, quite possibly, the most interesting character in the show. I cannot wait to discover more of him and watch him be absolutely wicked towards others.
Cheers to you, Radio Demon. If I were in Hell and had to be leashed to anyone, I would want to be leashed to you.
*Sip, sip*

Heyo not sure if you take requests but if you do, Bakusquad with an s/o absolutely terrified of bugs?
Ignore it if you don't take requests lmao have a good day anyway 😔
A request, yay! I very much love these and I hope you’re having a good day too my lovely x
BakuSquad: S/O with a Fear of Bugs
BakuSqaud x (Gender-neutral) reader
Characters: Bakugo, Kirishima, Kaminari, Sero & Ashido
Warnings: Fear of bugs, that’s literally it.
Description: Headcannons for each member of the BakuSquad if they had a s/o with a fear of bugs :)
—————
Tumblr media
He’s kinda like wtf😐 He’s genuinely so confused. He’s seen you take down three villains double your size all at once, and you’re afraid of bugs?
Truth be told, he doesn’t really get it, but he’ll help you combat it all the same.
You can’t step out of the door without him checking if you’re wearing repellant and carrying your spare with you.
Similarly, since they were purchased, your air fresheners have never known a day that they were completely empty.
Katsuki was quite thorough in his research surrounding bug-repelling essential oils- which he restocks the air fresheners with and wears himself. It’s a safer alternative than standard alcohol-based sprays considering his quirk.
Plus, he always smells like peppermint or lavender, so you can’t complain.
If you do happen to have a creepy insect land on you, Katsuki will do everything in his power to subtly turn your attention to something else.
Assuming you still haven’t taken note of the situation, your saviour will eye the thing like he wants to kill it’s entire family for pulling such a stunt, before employing his expert skills and strategically brushing the bug off of you.
Tumblr media
Real talk, Eijiro is almost as scared of bugs as you are. He can’t remember when it started or where his fear came from, but he’s not exactly proud of that part of himself.
It’s not very manly in his eyes. Although your fear is helping the red head overcome his own.
Where he would normally run in terror at the sight of a spider or similar spawn of the devil, he now has to plant his feet, ensuring he’s strong and courageous for you.
What kind of a man would he be if he didn’t protect you from harm after all?
Eijiro considers it extra insentive when you kiss his cheek, a reward for his bravery in the face of danger. Though he still breaths an enormous sigh of relief once the area is clear of all crawling or flying things.
With the two of you supporting each other, you can overcome most bug-related challenges easily enough.
But you both secretly still squirm when you even hear someone mention insects or other bug life.
Tumblr media
Honestly? He laughs when you first tell him about your fear. But it’s not because he’s making fun of you, he’s just surprised.
He thinks it’s totally adorable actually, and he loves that you turn to him to protect you from all the nasty critters.
He doesn’t always feel like the most heroic person, despite his profession. But if he can help you with your fear, he might as well be All-Might himself.
Denki wears insect repellant whenever he’s around you so that the bugs definitely won’t come near you, even via him.
Although, he accidentally sprayed the repellant in his mouth one time and you thought you were going to have to call poison control.
After coughing for a few moments, with you panicking/ laughing at him, he was okay.
Then he wouldn’t stop rambling on about how companies should make flavoured bug sprays just in case people do ingest them?!🤨
In day to day life, you were unstoppable, but the electric blond was just overjoyed to be your hero, if only for a few minutes.
As much as he tries though, Denki has met his match in a few winged foes.
Tumblr media
You only had to express your hatred and fear for creepy crawlers once to Hanta. The two of you never really spoke about it much beyond that, unless you bought it up.
At first you were worried by this, thinking that he thought less of you for your fear somehow.
But the truth was just the opposite.
He just accepted it in the blink of an eye without ever really thinking about it.
Why dwell on it? It’s who you are, and he loves you, and that means doing everything he can to help you along your journey, wherever you want to take it.
So his tape is basically fly paper right? You’d better believe that if there are bugs around, this man is acting out all of his web-shooting fantasies.
Any confirmed sightings near you, and that critter is suddenly whipped away before the little thing even knows what hit it.
Often you’d see tape flying before you had even realised there was a bug nearby.
He’s certainly efficient. It helps that he has a sixth sense for when you’re in danger, in any capacity. This apparently extended to the insect world too.
Tumblr media
Mina acts like she’s a one-man protection squad.
She, nor you, especially wanted to harm the bugs, you just don’t want them anywhere near you. It’s like you can feel your skin crawling as they touch you, or even look at you. There’s just too many eyes there to be natural.
Mina puts on this ridiculous act of standing in front of you while you walk down the street to be ‘bug security.’
This mostly just involves her wearing some sunglasses and pretending to be your bodyguard, although sometimes you think she’s a little too dedicated to the job.
God forbid her and Denki get together with you around, you’d have no room to breathe in their canopy-like formation.
If by some miracle, a bug does evade the pink-haired girl and get anywhere near you, this woman will full-on sprint from the other side of the room, or the city quite frankly, to protect you.
Yeah, she’s a good one. She doesn’t once question your fear or call you silly names because of it either. She simply accepts it as her responsibility to stand between you and anything remotely bug-like for the rest of her life.

Book Review 70 – American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis
Tumblr media
I’m honestly not sure I ever would have gotten around to reading this on my own, but ended up buying it through the ‘blind date with a book’ thing a bookstore in New York was doing when I was visiting (incredible gimmick, for the record). The fact that it then took me a solid three months to actually finish probably tells you something about how genuinely difficult a read I found it. Not in the sense of being bad, but just legitimately difficult to stomach at points. Overall I’d call it a real triumph of literature.
Not that anyone doesn’t already know, but; the book is spent inside the head of Patrick Bateman, high-flying wall street trader and Harvard blueblood at the close of the Reagan era. Also a serial killer. The story is told as a series of more or less disconnected vignettes, jumping from dinner conversations at one exclusive bar or club or another to the brutal torture and murder of a sex worker to several pages of incredibly vapid pontification on Nina Simone’s discography. The story vaguely tracks Bateman growing ever-more alienated and out of control as the year goes on, but there’s very much not any real single narrative or cathartic climax here. - most stuff just happens (stuff that’s either incredibly tedious or utterly nauseating by turns but still just, stuff).
So yeah this is an intensely literary work (obviously), a word I’m here using to mean one that is as much about the form and style of the writing as about the actual events portrayed. Bateman is a monster, but more than that he’s just an utterly boring and tedious husk of a man, traits which are exaggerated to the point of being fascinating– if you told this story in conventional third person narration without all the weird asides, it would be a) like half as long and b) totally worthless. The tonal whiplash of going from an incredibly visceral depiction of Bateman cutting out the eyes of a homeless man to six (utterly insipid) pages on the merits of The Doors is the selling point here (well actually I think Ellis goes back to that specific well probably one time too many, but in general I mean).
Bateman is a tedious, unstable monster, but as far as the book has an obvious thesis it’s that he differs from the rest of his social milieu only in degree. A symptom of a fundamentally rotten society, not a heroic devil among sheep. The book’s climax, such as it is, involved Bateman getting into a drug-fueled gunfight with the NYPD, shooting multiple people in the middle of the street, and then stumbling home and leaving a rambling confession to every crime on his lawyer’s answering machine – but despite very clearly wanting and trying to get caught and face some sort of consequence or justice, people just refuse to believe that someone like him is capable of anything like that. (It’s not, it must be said, an especially subtle book).
There is, as far as I can recall, not a single character who gets enough screentime to give an idea of their personality who I’d call likeable. Sympathetic, sure, but that’s mostly because it’s pretty much impossible not to sympathize with someone getting horrifically tortured and torn apart (at one point a starving rat is involved). The upper crust of New York yuppie-dom is portrayed as shallow and vapid, casually bigoted towards quite literally everyone who isn’t identical to them, status-obsessed to the point of only being able to understand the world as a collection of markers of class and coolness, and totally incapable of real human connection. Bateman is a monster not because of any freak abnormality, but just because he takes all of that a few steps further than his coworkers.
The book is totally serious and straight-faced in its presentation, and absolutely never acknowledges any of the running gags that are kept up through it. Which shows impressive restraint, and also means that none of them exactly have a payoff or a punchline – it’s just a feature of the world that all the expensive meals at trendy restaurants everyone competes for tables at sound disgusting when you think about them for a moment, or that the whole class of wall street trader guy are so entirely interchangeable that ostensible close friends and coworkers constantly mistake each other for other traders and no one particularly cares. Or – and I’m taking this on faith because fuck knows I’ve got no idea what any of the brands people are wearing are – that the ruinously expensive outfits everyone spends so very much time and money on for every engagement all clash comically if you actually looked up what the different pieces looked like. The book’s in no way really a comedy, so the jokes sit a bit oddly, but they’re still overall pretty funny, at least to me.
I like to think I have something of a strong stomach for unpleasant material in books, but this was the first work of fiction that I had genuine trouble reading for content reasons in I can’t even remember. I’m not sure it’s exactly right to call the violence pornographic in a general sense, but as far as American Psycho goes the register and tone Bateman uses to describe fucking a woman and torturing her to death are basically identical (and told in similarly explicit detail), and all of Bateman’s sexual fantasies are more or less explicitly just porn scenes he wants to recreate, so. Regardless, the result’s pretty alienating in both cases – his internal monologue never really feels anything but detached and almost bored as he relays what he does, sound exactly as vapid and alienated as when he is carefully listing the exact brands and designers every person he ever interacts with is wearing at all times, or arguing over dinner reservations for hours on end with his friends and lovers (though both those terms probably deserve heavy airquotes around them). He legitimately sounds considerably more engaged when talking about arguing over sartorial etiquette. It all adds up to a really strong alienating effect.
Anyways, speaking of sex and violence – perhaps because my main exposure to the story before this was tumblr making memes out of scenes from the movie, but I was pretty shocked by just how explicitly awful Patrick is ‘on screen’. The horrible murder, sure, but also just the casual and frequent use of racist and homophobic slurs, the pathological misogyny, the total breakdown he has at the idea of a gay man being attracted to him and thinking he might reciprocate – all of these are entirely in character for an asshole Wall Street ‘80s Guy even if he wasn’t a serial killer, but it’s still oddly shocking at first to see it so thoroughly represented on the page. It makes how comparatively soft-pedaled the bigotry and just, awfulness, of villains in a lot of more modern books stand out a lot more, I suppose? I have read a lot of books that are in some sense About queerness and/or racism in the last year, and no one in any of them holds a candle to good old Patrick Bateman.
Part of that is just the book being so intensely of its time, I suppose. The New York of this book is very much one of the late ‘80s, incredible wealth living side by side with social rot and decay, crippling poverty everywhere and a society that has to a great degree just stopped caring. Absolutely none of which Bateman or any of his peers care one bit about, of course – they’re too busy showing off the latest walkmans and record players, going to the newest clubs, and just generally enjoying all the fruits of Reagan’s America. Recent history has made the fact that Bateman’s personal idol is Donald Trump almost too on the nose to be interesting, but in 1991 I’m sure it was a bit more subtle in how telling it was.
Anyway, yeah, horrifying and exhausting read, triumph of literature, my god did Easton Ellis hate America (this is a compliment). Now time to go watch the movie!

Okay here's my headcanons of which Bugsnax characters actually know the Journalist's name. I'm also headcanoning that Lizbert mentioned their name when she told the others she wanted to invite them, and that they tend not to give their name unless prompted. They're a journalist, is that not enough?! (They may also have some personal identity issues)
REMEMBERED THEIR NAME
Lizbert: Knows their name and maybe also their address.
Beffica: Knew their name because she's read all their articles. Pretended not to know at first as part of her facade of detachment, which is why she said "You're that journalist!" when first meeting them.
Clumby: Presumably knows them as something more specific than "obsessed monster hunter who made me have to work late."
Chandlo: Remembered because he is definitely the kind of friendly and outgoing person who can remember anyone's name after hearing it once.
Wiggle: Makes a point of remembering journalist's names. Tends to unconsciously assume that any media person is there mostly for her, so she wants to make a good impression.
Snorpy: Remembered in order to look into them and figure out if they were the heroic truth-seeker kind of journalist or the villainous sensationalist kind. Liked what he found, but still suspected they were a Grumpinati impersonator when first meeting them.
Floofty: Remembers their name, but refuses to use it out of spite.
DID NOT REMEMBER THEIR NAME
Gramble: Forgot their name, and either asked them when they met, or asked Wiggle.
Triffany: Terrible with names, apologised and asked them for it when they met.
Cromdo: Told himself he'd remember their name in case they did show up and he had the chance to sell them something, then totally forgot. Asked them what it was when they met, and immediately did the "[diminutive], can I call you [diminutive]?" thing. The Journalist said "Sure," because they didn't really care.
Eggabell: Didn't pay much attention to what Lizbert said about them, since she didn't think they'd take the invitation. Despite having quite a bit of interaction with them and worrying about their health, didn't realise she didn't know what to call them until halfway through her "I just need Filbo and... Filbo's... buddy." line.
Shelda: Tried to remember their name so she could address them by it before they introduced themself, and impress them with her mystical knowledge, but got distracted by everything else that was happening and forgot. Got away with it for a while because of her tendency to refer to people with descriptions when overacting, but exposed herself when she said "Floofty, did you ask the journalist to throw acid at you?" The Journalist made fun of her for keeping up the charade for so long, so she reminded them that Floofty had asked them to throw acid at them, and they'd done it.
Wambus: Took a little while to realise that he couldn't get away with just calling them Stranger forever, and then was too stubborn to admit defeat and ask. The Journalist specifically suggested he use their name after his "I been calling you stranger, but you been around a while" chat, but he still refused to ask what it was, or admit that he didn't already know. Eventually heard Triffany refer to them by name, but she had to do it a few times before he decided that he knew it now.
Filbo: Forget immediately after being told, and also forgot to ask when they met. Didn't realise they probably had a name until after they'd interviewed him, and didn't want to ask out of awkwardness. Hoped they or one of the others would mention it, but coincidentally, nobody ever did, at least in an unambiguous way. Eventually asked them while they were heading back to the mainland, but continues to call them Buddy anyway.
Jamfoot: Clumby told him their name when she let him know that they were also going to Snaktooth Island, and he forgot their entire existence immediately. Was confused when Clumby mentioned them by name after they returned alive, even after she clarified that they were her ex-employee who went to Snaktooth Island.

yuri and kitty make sense. it did not come out of nowhere. the rom com meet cute? all of the tension while yuri was “dating” dae and how easily that tension transfers to romantic tension after kitty’s dream? that doesn’t come out of nowhere. kitty and yuri in the beginning of the show are two people who are at odds but don’t really want to be at odds. once the dae situation is mostly resolved, they become fast friends, which it’s foreshadowed they can be in episode 1. moreover, kitty has been with dae since she was 12. she clearly has been focused on him and not herself, and her interest in yuri is allowed to flourish because she is not with dae when it begins. she does not think she will be with dae. and she is in fact actively looking for someone to kiss. moreover, even if it was out of nowhere (which it isn’t) kitty is 17 (16?). at that age, crushes appear out of nowhere all. the. time. and while it might not have been the best idea to tell yuri about her feelings, kitty thought she would never see her again. sometimes the right thing for you, the thing that will let you keep going, is going to hurt someone else. doesn’t make it okay, just is. and on top of that, she didn’t fully confess anyway. and kitty’s not known for making good decisions, since literally the first tatbilb movie. it’s up to yuri now to decide what to do with this information. she clearly has wanted juliana to come back, and it is unlikely she will drop juliana because of kitty’s aborted confession. additionally, the few times we’ve seen juliana have been 1) the flashback, 2) the kiss in the janitor’s closet (neither of which reveal much about her), 3) the phone call in the tent, 4) the phone call in kitty/yuri/q’s room, and 5) the scene at the airport. in 2 and 3, juliana seems to have resigned herself to a life without yuri, and seems honestly shocked that yuri cared enough to go to such lengths to find her. what does that say about what juliana thinks of the relationship that yuri is so invested in? in 4 and 5, 4 explicitly, juliana is worried about yuri’s friendship with kitty, and jealous of it, and pushes the fact that she doesn’t quite trust yuri’s telling her the truth about the platonic nature of their friendship. to be clear, i have absolutely nothing against juliana. i am interested and curious to see her as a full character in season 2, and i do, in fact, desperately hope that they do not villainize a black queer female character. on the other hand, black queer women can be toxic partners. limiting othered people to only heroic, savior-like, positive roles, is also not great. and exhibiting jealous and mistrusting behavior already when we have so few, brief scenes of her is to me an orange flag. i’m not worried about it yet, but i have noticed it. and often, people who imply that they don’t trust their partner not to cheat, have already cheated themselves. once again, i hope this is untrue, i hope i’m wrong. finally, kitty was not in the right to almost confess to yuri, but it is not the cardinal sin some people are pretending it is. yuri and juliana may continue, they may not. whatever happens, it won’t be kitty’s fault. it is not inherently homophobic if you don’t ship kittyuri, or if you ship minty. it is homophobic to perpetuate this idea that the ship came out of nowhere simply because you don’t ship it and have refused to see what the show is explicitly showing.
in this same vein, min ho and kitty make sense. it did not come out of nowhere. and while min ho might not have had the best timing with telling kitty his feelings, he did in fact wait until he had confirmation that she was no longer with dae. he might have said something further had the PA not interrupted, but he did not appear to expect anything from her in return after he told her (just as kitty did not appear to expect anything in return from yuri when she almost confessed). kitty is shocked, but very clearly not upset about the information. to us, it is clear that min ho has liked kitty for a while, probably longer than he knew or let on. sometimes so called “hatred” for someone is genuinely that, but as demonstrated in xo kitty, it is often the exact opposite. (i am of course talking about disliking someone interpersonally for muddled reasons, not disliking someone for genuine reasons, i.e. they’re a harmful person.) dislike for someone is often based on someone protecting themselves for whatever reason. based on all that we know about min ho, he has a lot of family related issues, and a lot of reason to put up walls in order to protect himself. he is initially “anti-kitty” because he thinks dae should explore his options with someone he is in the same country with and then because he thinks yuri is a better option. a lot of this quite clearly stems from the way he was raised, the fact that his father is on wife #3, and the classism that very much exists in korea (as it does in many places) and honestly probably because kitty is half-white (i am not saying there is racism against white people, there isn’t. i’m saying that there is often unfortunate biases against mixed kids from both/all of their communities). in the chuseok episode, he says “my parents thought they were true love, and then had the messiest divorce ever” (or something to that effect). that line is so telling: min ho doesn’t believe in true love, or maybe even love at all. he looks at it as transactional, what can i get from them and what can they get from me? it’s evident in his failed (i think?) tryst with the k pop star whose name is escaping me, and in his situationship with madison. but spending so much time around kitty specifically changes his mind about these things. slowly, at first, and then much more rapidly. he’s still cocky, arrogant min ho, but he chills out a lot over those first few episodes. i think he appreciates that kitty actually responds to his teasing and one ups him oftentimes. and when he calls her his saesang, it’s so funny bc he is so clearly the one obsessed with her at all times throughout season 1. also, the dream happens after the chuseok episode, where they noticeably get closer. there is buildup! he thinks she’s beautiful when she enters his party, and is actively trying to resist his crush on her (because he thinks he shouldn’t have a crush on his friend’s girlfriend) when he reacts to it being her. he respects that he thinks she and dae are still into each other and moves his attention to madison. he knows her order in the detention episode. he is upset for her when he finds out yuri and dae lied. he saves her from the fireworks. he does not fight back against dae after dae attacks him because he thinks dae has the right to. he looks visibly shattered when kitty says min ho isn’t the one she was talking about. also, min ho would not have made the effort to sweet talk some flight attendant to find kitty’s seat and sit in coach because of nothing.
with both kittyuri, and with minty, they are one sided crushes (at least at the moment) with potential to be reciprocated, and i think people are misinterpreting them because of that. neither of them came out of nowhere, neither of them are toxic, and neither of the two ships involving teenagers include characters who are morally bad.
in conclusion, let people ship things. ship things yourself! and most of all, do not take things that seriously. shipping should never be a war. even if you personally don’t like a ship, it is shitty to go and actively hate the ship, especially if the ship is not doing you any harm, especially if you go into the positive spaces for that ship to spread your hate. if you don’t ship something, do not interact with content for that ship. it is not that hard. it is 2023, not 2013. ship whatever the hell you want.

I think it's very interesting--and I mean that genuinely--that overwhelmingly in the past week or two, the responses I've seen about Relvin have centered around the idea that "he should have fought" for Imogen or that "he should FIGHT" for Imogen. I've seen this particular line pop up quite a few times in slightly different ways, and I think maybe we should unpack this a little.
Because in the physical sense, Relvin can't really fight. By that, I mean his stats probably look like Gilear Faeths and like, yeah, you can argue that Gilear tagged along during Sophomore Year and therefore, so could Relvin. But Gilear also *spoilers* died three separate times in a 20 episode span, and is only alive at the end because Emily loves him so fucking much and Brennan's resurrection rules in FHSY are more lax than Matt's. Particularly post-Solstice, where there is no resurrection to be had at all if Relvin were to die. If you want Relvin to join the Hells and Fight The Moon And Ludinus Too, it's really not feasible even on just a physical level. That's not even engaging with the question of "why would the Hells even want him there?" They wouldn't. He'd be a nuisance at best and a liability at worst.
If you want to him to Fight The Moon sans the Hells on his own, he's really not capable of that either! He's not a scholar, he's not a magic user, he's--he's a groom. A stablehand. He can't "pick up his pitchfork" (that he shovels manure with) and stand defiantly against the forces that face Imogen & Co. He's really, truly Just A Dude. Which is kind of the point I've been trying to make about him. He's lived his life around extraordinary people, and he is not extraordinary. He doesn't have the tools to fight something like this, which is part of his tragedy. Is there a world where he quits his job, leaves his horses and his home and his life and tries to become a warrior for the sake of his absentee wife and the daughter he loves but doesn't know how to love the right way? I suppose. But wouldn't that be a different story than this one? And isn't it worth finding the meaning in the one we're experiencing now?
If this argument is that he should have fought for Imogen on an emotional level i.e. having been there for her more or more outwardly shown her affection, we kind of run aground of the same problems. The ask here is that we fundamentally change Relvin's character to make him something that he is not. He is a man who struggles with emotions, and was probably desperately scared about what Imogen was experiencing when it happened and didn't want her to feel his fear. Or his thoughts about her mother. And so, yes, he pulls away (for a variety of reasons). And there is a conversation to be had about his choice to withhold information about Liliana--it's questionable. But, then, every option he was presented with was questionable. What do you tell Imogen, who was abandoned by her mother when she was two? That her mother is dead, or that her mother abandoned her? You pray Imogen never develops the same debilitating powers as her mother, but when she does? Do you give her the comfort of knowing someone else had the same powers, the same struggles, at the expense of prompting more questions about her mother? Do you take the chance to be peppered with questions about how these powers work only to helplessly look on and say "I don't know," and maybe send Imogen down the same road as her mother even sooner than she actually did?
There is no good option. There is no heroic version of Relvin that makes all the right choices and becomes Imogen's white knight father, endlessly supportive and wholly committed to her. The situation is too complicated, and Relvin, frankly, is far too much Just Some Guy to be able to really grasp what Imogen is going through or to fight it in an active way. But I do think it's interesting that this seems to be the version of Relvin that the fandom would have found acceptable.

Memories Of a Distant Time
A/N: Jean before she became the acting grandmaster should get written about more. That’s actually true for most characters and their pre-game appearance lives.
Hearty laughter fills the air and the entire tavern seems enthralled by Varka’s story, his natural charisma pulling everyone in.
You bring your drink to your lips as you listen in, occasionally interrupting to correct him on a few details. Spicing up the story regarding the expedition was a good way to hold in the crowd’s attention, you had to agree, but that being said you didn’t want it to be just plain incorrect either, and Varka’s tendency to do exactly that was increasing with every drink he had.
You shake your head. “That’s not what happened at all. Marianne sprained her ankle well before the abyss order attack. That’s why she wasn’t even there actually.” You corrected him again with a pointed look.
“No, no. I’m quite sure she was, that’s why we went back after all. To go get her?” Varka waved you off. You rolled your eyes “You do realise that makes you sound like a horrible boss for leaving her there in the first place, right? Whatever, at least it’s better than letting them know that the ACTUAL reason we went back was just because you left your mission report behind and didn’t want to rewrite it.” you smirked at him.
The crowd laughed as the both of you bickered over the details.
“Come on now Captain, don’t be such a bore. You’re making it sound like any other expedition.”
“It WAS just like any other expedition.” You pointed out, “At least it was supposed to be until the Abyss decided to pop in and say hi. Archons above that was a headache. You know what? At this point just let me tell the story why don’t you? I’m sure I could put a better spin on it, and on your incompetence, than you could.”
Varka put his hand over his heart and sighed over-dramatically “You truly wound me, Captain but you should cut me some slack. I mean, you said it yourself didn’t you? The abyss order attack was incredibly unexpected. I thought I handled it pretty well for how little experience we have in dealing with them.” Varka took another sip from his glass, “And besides Captain, your own feats of strength were quite flattering in my story. So that does beg the question I suppose… Are you only saying this because of a false sense of modesty, a heroic desire for a genuine re-telling—or just the need to ruin my story?”
“Well...if you actually have to wonder that then maybe you’re not as bright as you make yourself out to be.” You laughed along with the tavern as Varka prepared to bite back with a jab of his own. It was clear to anyone with two working eyes that the two of you got along really well.
Painfully so, Jean thought.
She sighed sulking off to some desolate corner of the tavern, feeling her stomach twist into ugly knots as familiar feelings of jealousy and defeat crept up inside her. Wolvendom was supposed to be her chance. She was supposed to walk up to you and start a conversation—You know, like any normal person would—Unfortunately for Jean, she found it very difficult to operate as normal where you were involved resulting in her barely even getting a sentence in let alone an actual conversation. She felt like an idiot, especially since you did try. You talked to her, and all Jean could give you was either a stiff nod or an awkward attempt at an answer. Neither of which made for good conversation starters as it turned out.
She buried her face into her hands and groaned. She probably looked like an idiot to you too. “Way to make a first impression Jean.” She grumbled to herself as she looked back up to see you and Varka still joking along with each other. Maybe it was the alcohol still in her system but she felt pathetic. Years of pining after you to no avail and every fault of her own, she felt like the love stories of her novels, no, the love stories anyone her age got to enjoy, were simply not meant for her. Like her mother was right.
“My my, doesn’t somebody look like poster child of loneliness. Let me guess, you couldn’t talk to your crush the entire expedition and now you’re feeling depressed. Am I correct?” She heard a suave voice snicker behind her and she didn’t need to look back to see who it was.
“Go away Kaeya,” she grumbled, “let me be depressed in peace.”
“As much as I’d love to do that as your friend, and the only person between us that actually knows how to communicate, I thought I should act on my duty to help you, say….basically get laid.” Kaeya gave her a mischievous grin and Jean looked at him cautiously. “Kaeya. What did you do?” She asked him, extremely concerned for her safety.
“Don’t even worry about it. Hey, here’s an idea, why don’t you go out and take a walk, hm? I’m sure some fresh air would make for the perfect backdrop to your miseries.” Kaeya dismissively said as he dragged Jean by her hand towards the balcony, not even giving her a chance to reply.
“H-hey wait a minute, what did you-!”
Slam
Kaeya shut the balcony door, locking it. “Kaeya? Kaeya!” She struggled futilely with the door handle “Open the damn door Kaeya or I swear to Barbatoes I’m telling Master Crepus about this.” Her threats were met with laughter. Not laughter from behind the door, no, but from-
She turned around with a flushed face to see you giggling into your hand. “C-captain?”
“Sorry sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your little…tangent?” You tease and if it was possible, Jean turned a shade redder.
“W-well. That was” Damn it Kaeya really?
“Miss Jean. Please, calm down. Kaeya told me you wanted to talk?”
DAMN IT KAEYA REALLY?
Jean gnawed at her lips. She was going to have to kill Kaeya later but first she needed to diffuse the situation at hand. There was no way she was anywhere NEAR prepared for a situation like this. "That.." She subtly gulped, "Well...you know how he can be like, I'm sure he just thought it was an amusing prank. Or something." She mumbled looking down at her feet as if they were the most interesting things in the world.
"Is that so?"
She nodded, "I have nothing I wish to say to you Captain. I assure you."
For some reason, a quiet descended on you two and Jean became nervous. Did you not believe her? Or maybe you did and are just annoyed that you’re locked out here with her for no reason now. Or-
"Jean?” You spoke out, sounding strangely downcast.
Jean looked up. You were leaning against the railing now, looking…dejected?
“Yes Captain?”
You open your mouth, close it again awkwardly, then try again. “Do you hate me?”
Jean's eyes widen. “I’m sorry?”
You look back at her. "Every time I try to talk to you, you avoid me. If try to make conversation, you’ll give me standoffish looks or ‘assure me’ that you have 'nothing you wish to say to me'.”
You frown and Jean winces. Did she really sound like that? Wait-HAS SHE BEEN SAYING THINGS LIKE THAT THE ENTIRE TIME?
“Yes.” You deadpan.
“Ah, did I-?”
“Yes you did say that out loud.” You give a slight smile and some humour returns to your voice. Something Jean is very thankful for.
“Jean.” You say, “I’m going to be honest, I really admire you. You’re such a hardworking person, more so than anyone I’ve ever met before. You’re honest too, and kind. You care so much for the people around you that you forget to care for yourself alongside. When I see you, it gives me the motivation to work hard too.” You pump your fist, seeming uncharacteristically shy. “I guess you could say that I’m where I am now because of you.”
Jean’s mouth gapes and you laugh. “Too much? It’s true though, I’m not sure you remember but we met once when we were kids? I was training—nothing formal, just by myself—you saw me and came over, said I was holding my stance incorrectly. You taught me that day, for no other reason but the fact that I looked like I needed help. I thought it was absurd, but I’ve admired you since then.” You smile.
"I-" She tries to open her mouth to say something, but nothing comes out. How was she even supposed to reply to that!? She was sure her face was on fire with how hot it felt. Still, she had to try. She messed things up before, but that didn’t mean she could set things right. You were trying. She’d try too.
“I…admire you a lot too.” You looked at her with a mix of surprise and curiosity on your face. Jean gulped. “You’re someone I look up to a lot, and respect. You became a captain at such a young age, without any noble family backing you up, but it also made me think that perhaps you wouldn’t like me because I was already given an advantage at birth when you had to work so hard for it, if that makes sense?”
You frown. “Why would I hate you for something you couldn’t control? And you make it sound like you didn’t more than earn your place amongst the Knights. In fact, I honestly think you should be ranked higher, like a Captain, or maybe even a Grandmaster?”
“You’re flattering me.” Jean blushed, “There’s no way I deserve a title of such high esteem.”
“You do.” You say simply. “You’re just being humble.”
“I’m not.” Jean finds herself laughing. “I mean, I can barely even hold a conversation on your level.”
You raise your brow. “On my level?”
“Yes! Whenever you talk, the whole room becomes captivated. They laugh along with your jokes and hang on to every word you say.”
“You’re exaggerating.” It was your turn to blush.
“I’m not.” Jean smiles. “You’re just being humble.”
You snort. “Touché. But I’m being serious, I’m better a Knight than a conversationalist. I don’t think my personality is quite as suited for that.”
“What do you mean?”
You shrug. “I just bounce off Varka, he brings most of the charm.”
“I think you’re charming.”
You blink. “What?”
“You are.” Jean says firmly. “At least for me. Everything you say manages to bring a smile to my face. I like hearing you talk. So I think you’re quite charming.” She states simply.
You give her a strange look, and she grows nervous under your stare. Had she said something wrong again?
You smile. “You’re an interesting one Jean.” You kiss her on the cheek and Jean practically short-circuits, caught completely off guard. “I should go make sure Varka didn’t do anything too stupid while I was gone. See you later?.” You ask, Jean, who had completely short-circuited by the point, could only nod in response. “Good. I’ll be looking forward to it.” You chuckle and walk away, managing to open the door with no apparent difficulty.
Oh right. She was going to have to thank Kaeya later…

Hero Vision Vol.1 (2000/Winter) Changerion Reunion Interviews ft. Takashi Hagino & Aizawa Kazunari (translations below)
Publication: December 31, 2000
Takashi Hagino & Aizawa Kazunari: After 4 years, a date in Harajuku
Hey you two, how are you doing these days? It's been 4 years since the end of the broadcast. You two had a fateful encounter in "Choukou Senshi Changerion," an unusual heroic show that still remains popular to this day. We asked Takashi Hagino and Kazunari Aizawa, who say they still get along well with each other, about their memories of those days, and what their future plans are.
Main Interview Section
"I'm going to say it now. I mean it, I'm really going to say it right now! Changerion was really entertaining! It was truly a masterpiece! Suzumura Akira, a happy go lucky, good natured, 182cm tall, cat eyed, beautiful private investigator, and his partner, Hayami Katsuhiko, a 183cm tall, hot blooded and direct individual with a handsome face, are both on the side of justice. Kuroiwa Shogo, the Dark Knight, is an elite who's handsome, also quite tall I guess, and is running for governor of Tokyo in order to seize control of the city. A slapstick comedy and super cool tokusatsu hero show, with a mixture of fiction and reality, something like this most definitely existed in 1996 Tokyo. On the day of this interview, I was so excited to hear their voices saying, "Good morning~!" The appearance of those two standing there looked really really cool! And so begins the converstions full of laughter between Takashi Hagino, who plays the main character Suzumura Akira, and Aizawa Kazunari, who plays his partner Hayami Katsuhiko."
-Casting!! Secret Stories?-
Hagino: At that time, the role was the same as it always was, wasn't it? I went to a party at some production company, and someone was like, "Ah, you there," and told to come in for an audition. When I went to it, Shirakura-san, the producer, and Nagaishi-san, the main director, were smiling ear to ear once they saw me. I remember thinking, "What, why are you smiling like that?" I was 22 at the time of my debut, so it was about 5-6 years after I dropped out of high school. Before that, the movies that came out around that time made me think that acting was really interesting.
"You've also appeared in a V-Cinema that contains slightly adult content."
Hagino: It's bad. Please don't watch it (laughs). Watch something else where I look cool.
Kazunari: For me, I had just started acting, and my manager took me to Toei's head office to introduce myself. I announced that I was new and would be in their care, and then a strange old man came up to me and said, "Are you the one?" (everyone laughs).
Hagino: Wait! Was he trying to flirt with you?!
Kazunari: Uh, no, you see, my shoelaces became untied in the hallway, so I had to sit on the floor to retie them. He came up to me and said, "What's wrong?" I said, "Ah, no, I'm an actor," and he said, "Come with me then!" Things got carried away, and before I knew it, I went in for an audition.
Hagino: So, who was that guy?
Kazunari: He was……a really good guy to say the least, I actually don't remember his name.
Hagino: You're terrible! (laughs).
Kazunari: No, no. Look, it's because, it's just…anyway, so, at first, I was reading the script without knowing which one of us would play the role. Then, when it was down to just a few people, they asked me, "Which role do you want to play?" I was like, "Well, Hayami, I guess." I wondered if this was it, and then I passed, I passed……huh.
Hagino: Can we get some more joy here?
Kazunari: Well, it's because I really didn't understand. I didn't really feel it when I was suddenly told that I got the job. What's more, I still had no idea how hard it was going to be. No, rather, you really don't know what's going to happen in this world.
"Thank goodness for untied shoelaces and nice people"
-I'm not awkward!-
Hagino: I was asked to read my lines in front of everyone. Naturally, the producer told me that in the future, he would never have me read my lines at the audition for a leading role ever again (everyone laughs). No, I thought it went really well, and while I was a favorite to play this role, somehow I was also the worst. One of the more important people there looked as if he was going "?" all while tilting his head. He looked really nervous. He said, "From now on, when we present leading role auditions to the higherups, we won't make them read lines." He also said, "If you go with this guy, then shut him up and pick him already."
"It's true, Akira's acting wasn't very good, and I felt so embarrassed watching that I wasn't even able to finish the first episode. But, I could never think of anyone else playing Suzumura Akira but Takashi Hagino, and I still think that way after seeing him again after four years."
Hagino: But, back then, I definitely had some momentum. I was always told "You're a perfect fit for the role of Akira!," and a part of me got carried away over it, it felt like my nose was growing just like Pinocchio, except this nose is of brilliant glass. If Pinocchio's nose was made of glass, it would be really beautiful and sparkling.
"He smiles cheerfully and says that such things give him "the power" to play a role."
Hagino: But, you know, it's going to break someday. When that happens, only then will you understand.
"Afterall, Akira, aren't you suppost to be an adult?"
-First Impressions-
Hagino: We first met in an elevator, right?
Kazunari: Yeah, it was in an elevator. When I was on my way to the audition area.
Hagino: I said, "Huh? What's with the long hair?"
Kazunari: Yeah, it was really long.
Hagino: Incredibly long, it was tied in a single knot, along with wearing black jeans and a black shirt. I noticed him and asked, "What floor?" He said, "8th floor, hurry it up."
Kazunari: You liar! No, I politely said, "I'm going to the 8th floor, please."
Hagino: Well, I don't know, I guess that's just how bad my impression of you was (laughs).
Kazunari: Somehow, I never thought that the two of us would be working together.
Hagino: Yeah, I had costume fitting, and they told me that my partner was coming, and then the absolute worst guy came walking in.
Kazunari: Hey now (laughs).
Hagino: Because we seemed so similar in type, I thought there was no way the two of us would be together. Then he came in. And, as you can see, he's handsome, incredibly so. And…uwah. He stands out just by standing still. I really have to do my best here. Even still, I feel good with this guy. I can't imagine anyone else, as I'm already spoiled being stuck with him.
"Oh? Hayami is smiling shyly as he listens."
-Dramatic Drunks-
Hagino: When we drink together, we end up staying up until morning, right?
Kazunari: Yeah, when I see him, all he does is drink.
Hagino: When drunk, this guy tries jumping backwards. He gets really mad. When he stomps, it makes a nice sound.
Kazunari: I see… (pretending not to know)
Hagino: I end up joining him (grinning)
Kazunari: It seems I do alot of unacceptable things.
Hagino: Not really. He says that like I'm trying to wring it out of him. Well, guess I'll just go home then… (walks straight past him)
Kazunari: I do drink abit too much.
Hagino: I feel like a fighter when it comes to alcohol. I'm trying not to lose my memory here.
Kazunari: This guy makes people drink all the time. He'll ask, "Want some sake?" It seems I don't drink for myself, rather, I only drink due to the influence of other people. (to Hagino) Hey, you, you're the reason I always end up getting drunk.
"As usual, they are the best of friends."
-Acting, Theatre and Films-
Kazunari: Basically, about halfway through Changerion's filming, my impression of him was, "Ah, this guy, he's actually really serious.
"Oh? Somehow, Akira looks very happy."
Hagino: That's because, you know, it took me a long time to properly get into the role.
Kazunari: In our current ranks, we don't get into such big roles on TV or movies. I often get a role at the last minute, and have to act on the spot, so I think that because I can practice for a month on stage, movies really require alot of power in comparison.
Hagino: It's definitely different from Changerion, where we could say, "Let's take our time and work on it." I won't be able to make it if I try to wing it. But, if you ask me if I can act in the moment, I can't play the role of a big shot, because I think it wouldn't come off as authentic, but it'll be the best I can do, so it's important to know how much you can work with in such a short period of time.
Kazunari: I think about it alot. When I get a role, I'll think about it for a long time, doing research by watching similar movies, reading books, and so on, then, build up an image. Finally, once on set, adjust it as I see fit.
Hagino: My perception of acting has changed. I'll still watch the videos, and think, "Wow, I really did it~." But, there are also scenes where I'll say, "Oh, I don't think I can do this now." There are so many scenes like that. Although, it's a great opportunity to get into the swing of things, because you end up transforming yourself. The more I got into the rhythm, my surroundings were also in rhythm, so I was able to stay on track. Changerion was a a unique experience, and I don't think I could have done it alone.
Kazunari: The final broadcast was on Christmas, right?
Hagino: For some reason, I don't want to talk about the final episode. It went something like, I drank alot before the shoot and just had alot of fun, since we basically had a day off…
"Does this mean you were having a rough time before the end of the broadcast?"
Hagino: No, no, that's not it. We had about four days off before we started shooting, and I'd never had such a holiday weekend before, so I got alittle too relaxed.
"Does that mean things ended on good terms?"
Hagino: Yeah ❤️, that's how it felt. That's why I don't want to remember.
Kazunari: Like-I-was-say-ing, you…
Hagino: No, no! For me it may be just a past memory, but it's an important one.
Kazunari: Yeah, it was alot of fun.
"Never ending stories and overflowing emotions. I was happy to meet them. Changerion, beyond time…and for all eternity."

through altercations known only to me rereading my lalonde wizard post has made me think about what class each of the kids would play in dungeons and dragons, so i’m subjecting my 2 followers to it.
john: fighter. i’m sorry but i can’t see him picking anything else besides maybe like… ranger. he mostly sticks to the default subclass but jade probably made him try rune knight at least once for a one-shot. he found it too complicated but relented to branch out into more subclasses afterwards.
dave: i’m torn between rogue and hexblade warlock. mayhaps some sort of cursed multiclass of both. he seems like the type to look up game guides to get the most broken character build possible and make up a backstory on the fly but he ends up actually quite attached to his pcs.
rose: probably a warlock. my first instinct was wizard, but i think she’d enjoy the flavour of warlock more, considering her gothic tendencies. she started out with the great old one patron but then discovered homebrew and became unstoppable. that one player who sends 10 pages of backstory, but it’s actually enjoyable to read
jade: the dungeon master. she’s the one who can most reliably engage all the players in the game without overcomplicating the plot and probably excels in juggling everyone’s game preferences. though when she does get to play she probably has no set character type and just makes a character depending on what strikes her fancy that day
jane: my first instinct was a city ranger build, since that’s probably the closest you get to a detective in dnd, but hear me out.. paladin. the strict code of oath. the angsty backstories. the heroic persona. jane spent a lot of time pre-game playing damsel in distress. i think she’d enjoy playing the knight for once. she probably tries it just to try it at first but ends up liking the mechanics so much she just sticks to it
dirk: right. we have a few options here. the first one is specifically cavalier fighter, because they get a mount. obvious choice. but for some reason he also strikes me as someone who would play sorcerer. it has some of the most fiddly mechanics in the game and it’s one of the closest classes we get to not-newbie-friendly in dnd. he’d like the challenge. then he looks at the set up of the rest of the party, sees they have no healer, and begrudgingly picks cleric/druid
roxy: is there really a question here? she would play wizard. she might branch out into warlock for a one-shot or something when she sees rose play it but she would probably prefer the versatility and sheer volume of wizard spells. i swear opening the wizard spell list is like spinning a wheel of fortune every damn time. also it means she gets to have a familiar and obviously she would make mutini (i mean, excuse me, moutani)
jake: i’m imagining his character creation went a little something like this: “So which class will let me do some pistol action?” “well, technically any of them, if you have the right proficiency!” “Okay but are there any that are like, really good at it?” “i mean… there are gunslingers and technically artificers…” “Great! i’ll play that then” before jade can explain gunslingers are actually sort of really complicated to play, especially for newbies. eventually he switches to bard
bonus: terezi plays barbarian. you can’t convince me otherwise.

Oh no! Macaque has been kidnapped! What do each of the monkeys do? (Assuming the kidnapper is actually powerful enough to pose a threat)
In the case of an equal threat, like say the Demon of Havoc or similar.
Peach and Dawn mobilize the troops (ie. the Monkie Kid gang and co.) to track down Plum and Dusk's locations and raze the place to the ground. They might get caught by a few villain traps along the way cus of the tunnel-vision. The LEM's are constantly trying to escape. Lots of hugs and kissing follows once they find eachother.
Dasheng would have a second of disbelief... then fly into a screaming rage flying towards the kidnapper's location. He's lost Zhanshi before, he'll never lose her again! Zhanshi similarly is clawing and biting her whole way through the whole situation. The pair kiss deeply in the aftermath of fighting, and have to avert the gaze of any little-monks or pig demons in what follows after.
Smokey gets so mad he nearly tears up the ransom note/messenger right then and there. His fellow pilgrims are the ones to calm him down long enough to form an escape plan. Liang meanwhile is boredly checking his lantern, knowing that his kidnapper is in for a world of hurt. Liang makes a snarky comment once Smokey busts on in, but quickly drags his mate closer for a relieved kiss once he sees the tears of worry in the king's eyes.
Cherry gets real quiet. Like scary quiet. He just gets on Stick and zips silently over to where Olive is being kept, and busts his mate out of there. The second Olive is ok, Cherry turns his attention to the kidnapper and without theatrics' smashes them with Stick. Afterwards he spends hours crying from overwhelming relief/worry. He thinks his brain "turned off Monkey King-mode" in the face of potentially losing his mate. Olive in contrast begins stuttering and sobbing in the aftermath, wanting nothing but to be held by his mate. It's a mega stressful situation overall.
Ace drops his cup of coffee in surprise. Calls up Yunxiang and explains the situation. Within minutes the kidnapper has a flaming motorcycle crashing through the wall and a furious masked monkey clawing at his face. Joker and Ace cant stop laugh-crying with relief when they reunite, foreheads pressed against one another.
Shihou is like Cherry in that his normally bright personality is quieted in the face of losing his mate. Shihou has experienced so many threats trying to take Mihou away from him, but this time it feels "different". Gets all his friends mobilized to help. It's a full on knight-in-shining-armor scenario for him and Mihou (who many joke is like Princess Peach in the Meihouwang series). Big dramatic kissing occurs once Shihou and Mihou reunite.
Sugar gets really nervous and jittery, even as he forms the rescue plan. Spice is his shadow, his other half. He can't imagine his life without them anymore. His pilgrims are a big help in figuring out how to save Spice, calling upon favors from past allied gods to help. They hug eachother tight, even if the battle isn't quite finished.
Starfruit starts screaming and runs to the different factions in the Library - raising the alarm that Lilac/"The Six Eared Macaque" has been kidnapped. His friends and fellow heroic characters rush to aide his mission - including Lilac's villainous allies. Starfruit glares at those who ask why he's sticking his neck out for "a villain" of his story. I imagine that Lilac's fan-following oddly helps in pin-pointing where he was last seen/where his phone tracker died. Afterwards I imagine both monkeys go off-grid for a while just to bask in eachother's presences.

The Man Who Lost Too Much
Life moved quickly in the background. Sometimes it was hard to remember the day or the month. Time was counted in miles and blood. Age was measured in how many bodies you laid in the dirt.
It wasn’t without good times, though.
Y/N hadn’t spoken to her father in a while, but she wasn’t always alone. She would run with other hunters when they crossed paths, hook up with a stranger or two when she was in the mood. Hell, a few times she’d run into the elder Winchester himself and spent a quick weekend getting lost in the sheets.
There was nowhere she couldn’t go, nothing really she couldn’t do. She was a feather on the wind, tetherless and free.
But late at night, her thoughts would drift to him. The Boy with the Green Eyes who could always make her feel better, make her feel like she mattered. No matter how many lives she saved, how many thank yous and hugs from survivors, she never quite thought she was helping. Her efforts in doing good always seemed so small next to what Dean was up to.
Sure, his heroics always came with a price, but Y/N longed to be closer to him, to be a part of the action. She wanted to see it up close, to live in the spotlight, if not right behind it. Skirting the edges of the light and holding him up- that’s what she really wanted.
Rumors of the Winchesters were never lacking and never dull.
Wherever she went, she’d hear stories, often exaggerated, about their adventures. Most were ridiculous.
‘Dean Winchester fought forty-seven vamps all by himself and came out without a scratch!’
‘Sam was born with horns and John had to get a witch doctor to remove them… he was still cursed, though. Poor kid.’
‘Those Winchesters are friends with the King of Hell and have traveled back in time twenty-six times.’
‘That car is haunted. I’ve seen it drive itself.’
‘Dragons. They fought dragons.’
‘Dean Winchester slept with my daughter and three of her friends. And I’m pretty sure, my wife.’
Sadly, that last one she believed. Usually, it didn’t bother her to hear about his sexual exploits, but when the moon was full and the wind was warm, she remembered nights in the tall grass behind the junkyard and his arms so gentle around her body.
She was working when he called; laptop burning on her lap as she scrolled through bits of scanned articles and photographs from decades ago. The phone buzzed on her nightstand and she peeked at the caller i.d. An old picture of Dean leaning on the Impala lit up her screen. She couldn’t remember when the photo was taken, but it always made her smile. His hair was short and spiked, his necklace fought with the buttons of his green henley, his leather jacket more than a whole size too big.
Y/N smiled and dragged her fingers across her own necklace, that worn hexagon that she clung to when overwhelmed, sucked on when thinking. A little bit of Dean always with her.
“Yo, Winchester. Been a while.”
Instead of a hello, Dean replied with a heavy exhale that instantly dropped her mood and upped her anxiety.
“Hey, Y/N/N…”
She closed her eyes, clutched the phone tight. “Where are you? Are you OK?”
His swallow was thick; he’d been crying, she could tell.
“Yeah. I’m- I’m OK. I… I don’t even know where I am. We pulled over for the night and I just-”
Y/N held her breath for a split second and then fell into crisis mode.
“It’s OK, Dean. I’m here. Just tell me what’s going on.”
There was a rustle of fabric, a sharp inhale; the scratch of nails down an early beard.
“Y/N/N… I fucked up. I- this is the worst thing I’ve ever done.”
“Dean, not for nothing, but you’re gonna have to narrow it down a bit, babe.”
He laughed softly and the tightness in her chest eased. He would be OK.
“Talk to me. I’m right here.”
Dean sniffed back a tear. She could almost see him there, eyes leaking freely, bottom lip trembling.
When he started to explain, the words shot out in a ramble that would have made little sense to anyone else. Y/N knew how to decipher his language, knew what each pause meant, why this word was harsh and that one softer. She knew.
He spoke of the last two years. He talked about losing Sam and then finding him again- without a soul. He explained about his deal with Death and the wall that was put up in Sam’s head so his soul wouldn’t shatter and kill him. About Castiel and Crowley, about deaths and near-misses, about everything.
Finally, Dean told her cautiously about moving in with Lisa and feeling like a father to her son Ben. He rambled on about civilian life and how much he loved doing stupid simple things like mowing the lawn or fixing stuck drawers. How he thought he’d finally gotten his due, that maybe, while it wasn’t perfect, Lisa could have been his salvation after a lifetime of pain. He cried again while recounting the ways he’d hurt them, scared them, gotten them kidnapped or worse.
When he was ready, Dean explained about the hospital and how he’d asked Castiel to erase him from their memories. How he’d sacrificed something he loved yet again for the good of someone else. They’d never remember him, never know who rearranged the tools in the shed, who bought all the cheap whiskey in the cabinet.
“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever fucking done,” he said, rounding out his confession as it had begun.
Y/N rubbed her hand down her cheeks, pushing the tears deeper into her skin. Her stomach ached in that horrible way it did when Dean hurt her, but she knew it wasn’t his fault. He needed to tell her and she needed to hear it.
She sighed.
“Yeah, it’s- it’s not great, Dean. It’s really fucking horrible, actually. You can’t just- take someone’s memories like that.”
“I know.”
“What if someone did that to you? What if I came along with my own buddy angel and had them erase your dad? Or Sam? Or… or me? You can’t play with people’s heads, Dean.”
“I know!”
She didn’t even flinch, she was too heated to be startled. “What were you thinking?”
Dean ground his teeth hard, growled through the clench. “I was trying to keep them safe!”
Y/N fought back. “From what?”
“From me!”
The friends fell silent for too long. Dean’s words hung in the space between them, electrifying the air and stabbing through their veins.
“Dean, I-” She couldn’t stand it. She needed to see him. “Fuck it. Turn your camera on.”
“No, Y/N/N, I can’t-”
“Just fucking do it, please.”
And there he was. Green eyes wet, freckled cheeks gaunt and hugged by the shadows. He wiped at his face and smiled, but couldn’t look at the camera. He couldn’t look at himself, couldn’t face her.
“Dean…”
He closed his eyes and refused to speak, so she did.
“What you did was fucked up, I can’t let you think otherwise, but Dean… you are… the most selfless, caring… brave man I’ve ever known, and I… I can’t imagine what you’re feeling right now, but I know you. And I know that you are going to be OK. You’re gonna get through this and, well, maybe you’ll never be over her, but…”
The spike in her gut twisted enough to make her pause and he opened his eyes, found hers on the screen.
“It’ll be OK,” she said softly. “I promise.”
He took a breath and let it out, and with it, a million pounds fell off his back. His shoulders fell, his jaw unclenched, the tightness in his face eased.
“I don’t fucking deserve you,” he whispered, staring so hard at the phone she was sure he’d break right through.
Y/N shook her head and smiled that secret smile that was only his.
“Shut up, Dean.”

The treatment of 2012 and Rise Mikey
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whenever I compare the treatment between 2012 and Rise Mikey, it sometimes feels like one is treated inferior and the other superior. What do I mean by that?
In my opinion out of all the Mikey's, 2012 gets treated like the biggest baby ever. He is constantly infantilized due to his ADHD and how people often views him as if he is an abused victim by his brothers. Oh yeah and him being abused by his brothers is not true by the way. People always act as if 2012 needs someone to hold his hand and defend him because he can't. In the rise x 2012 fanfics (while I haven't red any of them besides Unfamiliar Familiar which I gave up after a few chapters), rise are the ones trying to defend 2012 Mikey and even go as far as to I believe even HARM 2012's own brothers. So yeah, 2012 in short is incredibly infantilized and treated like a baby.
MEANWHILE, I've noticed that some people treat Rise Mikey like a literal god who is strong and the most powerful person ever who can TOTALLY win in a fist fight even though the last ronnin literally exists. I believe that due to him having mystic powers and then later we see in the rise movie Mikey unlock his new powers in which he uses to save Leo. I don't know why but I've seen people more treat Rise Mikey like he is the most powerful and the strongest person ever and some have made Mikey look like he is more capable of defending himself and fighting back.
But what weirds me out is Rise Mikey has been confirmed to cannonly be on the ADHD aspect.
Tumblr media
So this makes me question. Why is one Mikey who has ADHD, treated like a literal baby who can't defend or save himself even though we have seen time and time again that he is capable of protecting himself and has done various heroic acts and is also quite smart as well, meanwhile the other Mikey who also had ADHD is treated like a literal god with powers all because he has mystic powers and stuff and isn't treated like a baby?
Don't get me wrong- There are some who also infantilize Rise Mikey, but I've been seeing mostly something like this.
It feels as if people are treating one character inferior and the other superior which kind of feels wrong to me. I don't know why. Is it because 2012 Mikey doesn't have cool super mystic god like powers? Or are you just a 2012 Raph hater??
Honestly these aren't the only characters that are treated this way. I've seen many compare the other characters and treat one like they are inferior to the other character who is superior then the other.
It feels as if Rise is put on a pedestal all because they have mystic powers. But because the other characters don't have powers they are suddenly inferior to the other. I don't know why but I really dislike this kind of treatment. Whether what your reason might be I'm sorry but I hate it.
Back to Mikey- What I'm trying to ask is, why do you treat one Mikey like is a baby and can't do anything right because he is a baby meanwhile you treat the other like a god who can save the entire world and universe. I'm sorry it just- it bothers me a whole ton I am not gonna apologize for that.
Feel free to add on to this or possibly say something else that I've missed. This is just my opinion by the way. Don't get mad at me I beg of you. Arguments and conversations are allowed by the way.

"People only like Snape bc movies" I actually don't like the movies very much. They sanitize so much of the series.
I was that kid who took the books to point out how inaccurate the movies are. And while I've toned down things, I still don't care much for them. I watched them like, 20 times?
But the books-I was always reading the books. Since I was 8 or so. I brought them when I moved and they were the only thing to do besides TV. In the other time I moved I read the books. I was obsessed.
Snape's just interesting. And it's possible to like a character even though/because they did bad things. I like him because he shows trauma symptoms (please can I burn the trope of having characters go through traumatic things and then not reacting to it?). And I like him because his story is probably the only well done example of 'sometimes the good guys have bad traits and do bad and sometimes the bad guys have good traits'
And before anyone gets up on me-I love the Marauders too! Sirius is an interesting character. James (at least in fanfic) is funny. Remus is my favorite of them all.
And Snape was a lousy teacher. He had racist ideologies in the past. He's not a nice person. Don't make the accusation against me that I don't know my fave's flaws.
On a different note, it may be worth noting that Snape's Worst Memory was pretty much cut-just a few seconds, and no one's identity was shown. If it weren't for the books I doubt anyone would know that was the Marauders, and not just some random students.
I could make the same argument about Marauder fans. Wonder if people would've liked Sirius and Remus and James if SWM had been shown? I could make a whole list of things the Marauders did that wasn't shown in the movies. But it would be unfair to say that people only like the Marauders because of the movies. My Marauders-stan bestie certainly doesn't like the Marauders only because of the movies. And neither do you Moon.
Also: I don't get it. If you all want (mostly) unflawed blorbos the Golden Trio and the Silver Trio are right there. Babies, all of them. And Harry's other darling classmates too. Cho and the Patils.
Hundreds of languages out there and you decide to speak facts, anon.
Honestly that claim is so flawed for many reasons.
Literally every single character (except my beautiful bbygirl Ronald Bilius Weasley whose character was completely destroyed in the films and deserved sm better) in the movies was very simplified and at least a little bit whitewashed compared to their book counterpart. Even Umbridge was better in the movies than she was in the books, of course we can’t expect the filmmakers to shoehorn every single detail of Snape’s character in the films.
Be that as it may, a majority of Snape’s heroic actions were ALSO cut from the films. Did the films mention when Snape took the time to brew Wolfsbane potion perfectly each month for a man he didn’t even like? Did the films mention when Snape prepared the mandrake draught potion that cured three Petrified muggleborn students? Did the films mention when Snape revealed his dark mark in front of the Minister of Magic when he began questioning Dumbledore? Did the films mention when Snape went back to Voldemort in GoF and continued spying for Dumbledore? Did the films mention when Snape yelled at a portrait for referring to Hermione as a Mudblood? Did the films mention when Snape straight up saved Remus’s life in DH? Did the films mention when Snape rushed to the fifth floor in his pyjamas when he heard (the egg) screaming? Did the films mention when baby!Snape introduced Lily to the Wizarding World and told her everything she needed to know (including the Dementors; something Harry learned about when he was already a teenager)? Snape’s whole character in the movies (aka the one that stripped 80% of his personality) was done dirty. They didn’t manage to bring up some of his most heroic/genuine moments in the series, so antis better quit complaining about Snape “being whitewashed!!!!!!” in the movies, especially not when they’re Marauder stans as well (legit 89% of the bad things they did were barely even brushed upon).
Hearing people say “people who like Snape only watched the movies” is extremely amusing, especially when one remembers that… they’re talking about… one of the most best-selling book series in the entire world.
Book!Snape is far more diverse and complex than Movie!Snape can even dream to be. We see how his trauma affected him, how he grew as a person throughout the years, his relatively detailed backstory, his realistic bitterness regarding the son of the man he hated and the woman he loved, etc. Saying we can’t possibly appreciate his character is ludicrous, liking a fictional character doesn’t mean you believe they’re a flawless angel or even that you believe they’re a good person. People are able to enjoy problematic characters for what they are. Alan Rickman definitely did his best with what he was given, and movie!Snape was 100% iconic in his own dry way, but the filmmakers still did his character dirty.
My Marauders-stan bestie certainly doesn't like the Marauders only because of the movies. And neither do you Moon.
You’re right, anon. The reason I even like the Marauders (except Jimmy Jimmy coco puff) is because of how deep and complicated their characters are — as adults, we realise just how flawed and grey they are and that they aren’t as wonderful as how Harry views them.
Anyway, I decided to rant a little for you guys because I’ve been starving you for a while. Enjoy. <3
