I saw a post saying "If porn and prostitution were empowering men would be doing it" and while I absolutely agree I would add:
"If porn and prostitution were empowering men would be fighting to prevent women from doing it at all"

i do not like the dany and rhaenyra stans that hate on sansa and alicent for "bowing down to the patriarchy" and "not stopping their oppression". dany goes through a traumatic marriage at thirteen in which she is regularly raped to the point of contemplating suicide. she forces herself to love her husband and make him love her to spare herself more abuse. she then gets pregnant with his child and goes through a horrific birthing and loses her baby at only fourteen. this whole situation is very, very common for women in their society. the only difference is that daenerys gains three dragons at the end. they empower her and help her move forward to claim her 'birthright'. let's looks at sansa in comparison. she is sold off as a child bride at twelve years old. her betrothed arranges for her to be publicly stripped and beaten. she is then married to the son of the man that killed her brother. her new husband sexually assaults her on her wedding night, but does not rape her. pretty much every man that she encounters tries to sexually harass and assault her. she escapes her marriage and is now being groomed by her mothers childhood friend. she knows that his feelings and actions towards her are wrong, but he's all she has. sansa has to use "a womans courtesy and grace" to get herself out of potentially harmful situations. we also see this with dany's 'seduction' of drogo. the only difference is that sansa is never given dragons to protect herself like daenerys is. she still has to rely on herself. people call rhaeneryas dragon moments 'badass' and put alicent down for sticking to the patriarchy. alicent sticks up for herself by calmly telling her husband that he can take her daughter away from her when she is cold and dead in her grave. that is the only thing she can do in that situation, and its a a risky thing to say to her groomer, abuser and husband (who is also the king) but she still does it to protect her daughter. when alicent is feeling lost, she prays to the mother. when rhaenerya is feeling lost, she rides syrax. alicent and sansa (and even cersei) are not afforded with magic and fantasy to escape their abuse, they have to do the best they can with what little power the average noble woman is given in their society.

generalizing statements like 'all men are evil' are for sure wrong but also i think its important not to cut discussions of gender out of the picture esp bc they are extremely relevant in this case as misogyny is a big part of wilbur's abusive actions and the wider discussion of the. social environment of cc spaces that enables things like this. so.

Detective Benoit Blanc giving a black woman the power to burn the whole system to the ground herself is probably the most overlooked and underrated part of The Glass Onion

"Jon will want me. Even if no one else does." - arya
that's RIGHT! he WILL! sorry to the surely very few "arya is too far gone" truthers - jon STRONGLY disagrees. when he decides to save "arya" from ramsay, jon wonders if they'll even recognise each other. he struggles to reconcile the memory of the scrappy little sister he loved and the girl forced to be ramsay's "bride". he knows she might have suffered and she might have changed... and then he sacrifices EVERYTHING to try and save her anyway!!! this arya is symbolically and LITERALLY a completely different person and jon still loves her unconditionally. arya doesn't NEED redeeming in any significant way - what she needs is love and healing and not even death is going to prevent jon "big brother of the year" snow from providing it, thank you for coming to me NED talk.

It's funny to me when people insist that "ATLA was really feminist" as if there wasn't really only one feminist message which was the very generic "girls can fight too" spiel that every 2000s show had going on whenever they briefly tried to jump on the feminism bandwagon or whatever

Y’all know that quote “when men are oppressed it’s tragedy, when women are oppressed it’s tradition,” right? That’s a really good quote that is still relevant to the world in so many ways. But also, it made me realize something else.
When the rich are harmed it’s tragedy, when the poor are harmed it’s freedom.

something that’s really frustrating about this topic in particular is that it is very complex and requires both nuance and critical thinking however because it’s currently taking place in the content creation world, the only people talking about it are content creators who love the sound of their own voice rather than being an impactful part of the conversation

I'm genuinely convinced the thought process goes:
> people who abuse children are horrible, irredeemable monsters who deserve to have their human rights stripped away and burn in hell for all eternity, no good person would ever hurt a child
> *tons of scientific evidence comes out showing that hitting your kids is basically abuse and does immense harm with absolutely no good to balance it out and in the worst cases it leaves lasting psychological damage those kids carry for life*
> but wait...my parents spanked me as punishment, but they aren't horrible evil people who deserve to die! I love my parents and they loved me, they're good people and good people would never hurt a child, and I surely don't have issues as a result of being hit, so that must mean hitting your kids isn't abusive
> the cycle continues, nothing changes, kids keep getting hit
and like I get it, I get it, but I just want to grab these people and be like "welcome to the complex reality most actual abuse survivors have to contend with every single day of our lives, it sucks, but since I've been through it I can give you the answer I had to work out over years of therapy for free; you are still allowed to love--and even FORGIVE--people who hurt you"

feminist theories, esp Black feminist & transfeminist & anticapitalist feminist theories, have a lot of complexity and depth and really dig in to complex systems of oppression and like there's so much there!! so many critiques, so much back and forth and refining and updating theory to better fit evolving understandings and circumstances
so it's kinda wild to me that people think they're gonna revolutionize gender theory when it's painfully clear that they have NO idea what's already there.
like there are people trying to make whole new frameworks to understand systems of gendered oppression but without any detailed understanding of the current frameworks or, crucially, in what ways they are useful and what material realities they accurately describe.
in order to be useful a new framework needs to both be a) internally logically consistent AND b) describe or explain or interrogate etc material realities that exist in the real world
and c) do this in a way or to a degree that existing or past frameworks don't already do as well or better
and some people are coming up with stuff that sounds good in a vacuum!!!
but they're going off vibes and feelings without much attempt to find out the details of existing frameworks or even what the measurable & objective material realities are
so these "revolutionary new gender theory frameworks" often end up being rehashes of stuff that's already been thought about by lots and lots of people and widely rejected for being inaccurate or inadequate in the face of better frameworks, and/or describing or responding to a totally alternate universe disconnected from how things work in the real world
these kinds of issues make many "revolutionary new frameworks" useless at best, and at worst, they can be reactionary and actually reify existing forms of oppression.

does dc have like. any adult butch women? at all? the closest example i can think of is karsta wor-ul but she's not a recurring character and that's like. literally it. surely im forgetting some... onyx maybe counts... but like dc still always draws women so feminine like they Have to have form-fitting clothes and big boobs and full faces of makeup it's hard to actually call any of them butch designs. (not that women with big boobs or form-fitting clothes can't be butch but like in terms of character designs clearly made by straight men you know?)
