Pentious going to Heaven after being killed by Adam already could’ve easily been enough of a curveball. But y’all.

He didn’t appear where the newly-arrived mortal souls do.

We see what it looks when a newly-dead person arrives in Heaven — they’re outside the pearly gates, talk to whichever Saint is working the Reception Desk, and then go in through the main promenade thingie.

Sir Pentious manifested in what seems to be Heaven’s highest offices. Which, in some ways, it might make sense he doesn’t take the usual front door — he’s not newly dead, he’s been in Hell for centuries! And he was a Sinner killed by an Angel, yet somehow still was considered virtuous, which probably puts him in a very odd position. But, physically? His position?

Is in Heaven’s innermost sanctum where the fucking Seraphim who LEAD Heaven are working.

(And sure, it could just have been an aesthetic choice. But it’s not like we haven’t seen Emily and Sera in the outer area of Hell — or that there couldn’t be a similar punchline by showing whatever Saint is on door duty try to deal with this small moral crisis. No, having him manifest right alongside Heaven’s leaders was a deliberate choice.)

What if Pentious isn’t just a winner now, but another Seraph?

If so…it could have some very interesting implications for the next souls to be redeemed.

the number one trending tag on tumblr is of a $1 book and I am trying to determine, from the posts, what it's about. the fanart is just white twinks so that don't narrow it down. one of the posts showed them in sporty clothes so reckon it's a sports drama. there's an aesthetic moodboard where one of the images is of a lacrosse player so maybe it's lacrosse sports drama.

now the curveball is that some of the posts mention a character getting "sold as a child to an arms dealer" okay yeah right yeah of course, classic lacrosse moment. every single other post is about shipping and gushing about how one of the twinks is trauma, so the clues are sparse. I'll keep y'all updated (this is lie)

bundletober #8: nasty, brutish, and long

welcome to bundletober, the txttletale dot tumblr dot com ttrpg blogging indulgence that absolutely everyone. is talking about? yes! today i read a slightly longer game than most of the ones i've been talking about here, because, frankly, it captivated me. nasty brutish, and long, by not writing, is a game about rebellion.

what instantly drew me into this game is that 'rebellion' isn't abstract and it doesn't happen for no reason. a lot of games like to style themselvs as being 'about rebellion' or 'about revolution', with no actual desire to engage in why revolutions happen--there's an evil empire and you're fighting it because it's evil. but nasty, brutish, and long is clearly deeply invested in questions of class and economics--part of the first session asks you to consider the economic state of the nation:

and yet another part gives you a 36-item table to roll on for an inciting incident for the revolution in question:

i love this shit--well, firstly, because i love games that give you strong plot hooks, games that tell you about their world, games that imply possibilities through options rather than grabbing your lapels and telling you what possibilities are on the table in tedious monologue. but second because this shows that the game wants to tell stories about the realities of revolution, that it is founding itself in history as more than just an aesthetic.

another really cool thing that happens before you even get out of character creation is 'backgrounds' -- as part of creating your character, you select four backgrounds (professions your character has worked), which are separated by social class (another choice you make at character creation). while you can always choose, the game encourages you to roll on yet more tables and make a story from that--i've done it a few times, and it's great fun.

for example, in the course of writing this post i created geoffrey--born a rural peasant class, he was taken in under the wing of a preacher after his family died. the preacher recognizes his potential and groomed him to be his successor--when the preacher eventually passed away, geoffrey, who'd always been a confident silvertongued lad, became his rural township's pastor. however, although he was convincing, he'd never been a true believer--so while when on a pilgrimage a merchant approached him with a simple scheme, using the legal immunity afforded to pilgrims to have him smuggle contraband into the country, he happily became a smuggler. this worked out great for a while, and saw geoffrey make a very tidy sum--but after a particularly close call he realized that he needed to get the hell out of this arrangement. with the sum of his ill-gotten gains, he travelled to a city and purchased a bookstore, becoming a middle class shop owner. he happily lived out the next few decades selling books--but at heart, he missed the fire of a sermon, having the ear of a crowd, so in his late years he passed his shop on to his son and became an elderly teacher, bringing literacy to the village of his youth.

this is exactly the kind of thing i fucking love about tabletop roleplaying games, the feeling that the game is chiming in with me as i try to tell a story, throwing me these weird curveballs i have to 'yes, and!' to create a backstory i'd never have thought of on a million years on my own. something else worth noting is that character creation is very open for a forged in the dark game -- you're unlkely to even have the same set of attributes as someone else, and you can pick backgrounds and abilities (mostly) totally independent of one another or any overarching playbook-type restriction.

the game itself diverges from blades in a lot of interesting ways. instead of blades' system of looking for the highest die, nasty, brutish, and long operates on a die pool system, which is what allows for it to add a large pile of levers for influencing rolls, including using multiple attributes for the same roll--there seems to be some OSR influence in here, with the open-endedness of the actual moment to moment gameplay and the vast amount of opportunities to use and exchange in-game resources. that said, unlike OSR stuff, there's a lot of effort being put in here to hand narrative control to players. instead of just saying 'you succeed' on a success, it says, 'the PC narrates what happens' which is a really cool spin on the usual success/mixed success/failure trifecta. players also get the ability to make up NPCs by expending resources, which is super cool.

other highlights include a take on burning wheel's drives system, a weird version of blades' resist mechanic that lets you change, rather than avert, the consequence your character faces, and a take on 'downtime' that frames it as more of a timeskip, during which years can pass. it's pretty cool stuff.

oh, and finally--the fucking style of this game is incredible. it does a lot with very little colour--a few splashes of dark red here and there is all it needs to complement its striking black and white, rich sense of texture, and

if there's one thing i don't like about nasty, brutish, and long, it's that it doesn't have any strong ideas about what the players need to be doing. the game establishes social turmoil and brewing revolution, makes a huge point of social class and class differences, but the verbs, the substance of what your player characters do, is deliberately left totally open. and that's cool for some people, some people like that openness a lot! but for me, who appreciates a tight and specific design, it doesn't do much. the tagline says its 'an game about class and revolution'--and i'm not sure i can fully agree with that. it'd be more accurate to call it a game 'containing class and revolution'. which is a step up from a lot of games that claim to be revolutionary, as i said before--but at the end of the day leaves me feeling like something's been left on the table.

still, there's a huge amount here worth checking out--even if you don't intend on playing it, it's a great look into the different directions you can take the forged in the dark framework, and a great tool for Making Up Guys. can't go wrong with making up a guy!

[Bake Bread] 2/2

Minecraft Single Player! Yuu AU

Summary: Yuu baked(?) bread for Azul.

Part 1/2

Yuu nods to Azul's request, standing up and doing their really odd 120 degree angle bend and pin straight arm swing gesture that Azul assumes to mean "Follow me."

So, Azul sets down one of half of the bread, opting to carry one in his hand as he walks with Yuu through the hallways of Ramshackle. To say that it has been refurbished is an understatement, as the windows and rotting wood in some areas have been completely replaced with a new and stronger material.

Though, he can't find himself too pleased at the overall.. aesthetic, of the refurbishing. It is almost comically obvious where Housewarden Yuu has done the repairs as seen with the insanely precise blocks that are somehow not making the weaker wood below it collapse. The 1 x 1ft cubes of wood make Azul put unnecessary thought into the laws of magic and physics that should have been applied here in order to make this phenomena happen.

Following Yuu taking a left, Azul stands at the doorway to.. Yuu's room?

"You bake in your room?"

The Housewarden turns around to face Azul, facial expression and square pupils never wavering. ("Yuurmom is very amusing, don't you know Azul-shi? We frequently have staring competitions, but I've yet to win a single one as they only blink around 3-4 times a day. I hope to play with Yuurmom more." "Enough with your nonsense and get back to work.")

There is a moment of silence between him and Housewarden Yuu as they look at him. Azul remembers the Dark Mirror's evaluation of them, solid and unyielding, however he seems to have underestimated how much that applies physically. Humans and humanoids have overlapping body language. Thorough analysis of these features and wielding its power makes almost anyone predictable, it allows understanding, empathy, and control.

The body that stands before Azul is still. The shifts of weight from one foot to another to fill uncomfortable silence is not heard, the unconscious fidgets of eyes and hands do not occur, the subtle rise and fall of the chest cannot be visibly observed, yet the gaze of the person in front of him carries a weight that should not exist in an entity as still as furniture.

Azul continues smiling, and he continues to gaze back at Yuu.

"Why bake in room?"

Azul blinks.

Right. Who would bake bread in a room that clearly lacks an oven? Only an uneducated small fish would think such an outlandish thing. Surely, Azul Ashengrotto should have been able to expect any curveball that comes in his way, the bizarre and unpredictable hold no candle to his intellect and benevolence!

"I'm always happy to accompany you, but I fear I might be overstepping a metaphorical and literal boundary. I do not dare enter someone's room uninvited, such areas are a personal space after all. Say, are looking for anything in particular? I could help." (Translation: "Why are we at your room?")

Yuu swings their arm in the direction of the strange 3 x 3ft wood(?) block seated next to the small tall table. The stark contrast between the ornately carved legs and the sharply angled cube makes the latter appear more and more erroneous.

"Make bread there."

A minor jog and skip across the room to the cube, Yuu fully utilizes their hip joints and does what Azul can only describe as an impossibly fast 120 degree in-and-out motion. According to Jade, this is one of the few body gestures Yuu ("Yuurmom, Azul-shi.") actually partakes in that means, in this context, "Come here."

Despite Yuu answering his question, Azul feels extremely dissatisfied at the lack of certain answers he's getting and the progression of this interaction. The intention was to get on friendlier terms with Housewarden Yuu, but there is hardly a feature he can identify on them to confirm that this is going the way he wants.

However, only weaker beings would give up at this point. If there is no inherent danger or threat, keep going. Azul obliges, and walks over to where Yuu is standing.

Azul notes that in Yuu is now holding 3 of the little slabs of pixelated wheat. The wheat that Azul has been vying for. The sought after wheat, the one that does not expire and would do amazingly for Mostro Lounge's retail cost cuts. The crop he had Jade do a lab analysis of to confirm its quality not to be stunted by its jarringly fast growth rate. That wheat.

His brain fills in what it thinks is about to happen, and it plagues his mind like a swarm of ants to forbidden nectar. The worst kind of food for thought, really. "3 wheat makes 1 bread", Yuu said. They stand at this cubic monolith that looks nothing like an oven. Yuu carries 3 wheat. For all the generosity the Sea Witch can provide, Azul pleads the Sevens for the mercy of having his reality not be shattered.

"Heyyy. Kobanzame."

Ruggie heftily flaps his hands, water droplets shaken off onto the floor and in the industrial 3 compartment kitchen sink.

"What do you want, Floyd?"

"Play Ball!"

The hyena finds himself knocked down to the water droplet-stained floor with a brick-like object hitting him square in the face, the evil no-good pitched object landing in his lap after the fall.

"Agh- FUCK! What the hell is your issu.."

There's hardly room for Ruggie to spit something scathing as he stares at the familiar sight of pixelated bread in his lap. As much as he did want to eat Yuu's gifts, he kept those expiration-free breads in a safe pantry in case of an unexpected campus emergency and for when he goes home.

"Where did you get this from?"

Ruggie pockets the bread as quickly as it clocked him in the face prior, and Floyd seats himself on the island counter, gnawing at one of the breads still in its pixelated form.

"'zul haf a bafkut o' 'em in offish. Moin 'ow." (Translation: "Azul had a basket of them in office. Mine now.")

Floyd gives a particularly harsh bite to the bread, the pixelated form no longer apparent. The scent of warm yeast fills the room, and the bread ceases to the teeth chowing down on it. A frown twists itself onto Floyd's face, and he grumpily chews on the remainder of the bread in his mouth.

"Why can't this stupid bread just have one form?"

In the back of Mostro Lounge, Azul sits in his office sipping from a lemon tea. Lemon tea.. Do lemons even exist there? Juice?

"Azul-shi, the Mushroom Citrus Salmon has been doing splendidly. With warmer weather coming, customers are seeking for more refreshing and sharper flavors to cut the heat. Though, we're going to need more lemons to handle the popularity of the item."

".. Uh huh."

"Wonderful to hear. I'll mock-up last week's sales."

As Jade turns the doorknob to exit, he pauses. Instead of leaving, he walks up to Azul's desk, leaning an arm onto the hardwood and gesturing to the basket of slightly ransacked pixelated bread.

"Do you mind if I take one?"

Azul is despondent, gaze hidden behind the reflection of his glasses as he idly stirs at the lemon tea he takes occasional sips of. Jade takes his silence as a "Yes" and takes one of the breads, gleefully skipping his way to the door and exiting the office.

He's plenty happy with all the amusing events happening around him, though he wonders how long Azul is going to stay like that.

Life Update After a Few Days: October 18th, 2023 🎀

I’ve been a little busy with school, work, resting, and starting my workout routine back up, so here’s a little update!

I’m getting a tattoo soon! I know the aesthetic of my blog is pink and girly and coquette and I love everything that comes with the aesthetic and the lifestyle but I have an affinity for gothic style/spooky tattoos, so I’m getting a decent sized spider tattoo on my right thigh and I’m super excited! This is the first big ish sized tattoo besides the two small ones I have, and it’s the first tattoo appointment I’ve ever made so I’m really excited. A little anxious, especially for the shading portion of it, but I’m looking forward to how good it’s going to look when it’s finished and how much more confident it’s going to make me!

I’ve started working out at the gym again! My current schedule is three days of weightlifting (pull day, leg day, push day), and two days of just cardio. It feels so nice both mentally and physically to be taking care of myself like this again. I even bought some new workout shorts and gym clothes and I’m feeling better than ever! I’m focusing on improving my mental health right now and working out is doing wonders for me!

I’m working so much right now, but it’s worth it because I need the money for rent, tattoos, gym stuff, groceries, and whatever other necessities and wants pop up. I’m pulling doubles most Saturdays and it’s a little tiresome and energy draining but I’m managing pretty well. I won’t pull doubles every Saturday tho because that drives me straight into burnout and I’m trying to avoid that.

I hit 31 days on Duolingo and I’m at 28 days on Busuu, super proud of myself for keeping up with those two goals for now! I’m still working through the first two lessons of Genki and I’m still using the Kanji app but my studying has been a little bit more spread out because of my busy schedule. I’m trying to learn how to better balance multiple things without hyperfixating on just one and forgetting about everything else. I’ve noticed I tend to do that and that’s not the most productive thing for me.

I think I mentioned in a previous post that I spent a lot of money on stuff from Amazon (and Ulta) and most of it is here already besides the last couple Amazon items coming in today! I love the workout clothes I bought and the fitness/health tracker planner I bought is really interesting. I also got my language tracking bullet journal stuff in the mail so I am super looking forward to starting that up soon. Again, I noticed I tend to hyperfixate on one thing at a time but right now I’m trying to balance all my interests and things I need to do. My current “balance breakup” is: fitness/nutrition, Japanese language study, school/classes and academic success, work/making money, self care (sleep, skincare, reading, journaling, etc), boyfriend time, appointments, and chores/cleaning/housework. Sounds like a lot but there’s 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. Not everything has to be done in one day and as long as I manage my time efficiently, then I’ll be successful. I also try to take into account my energy levels, daily tasks, possible “curveballs”, and my current physical and mental/emotional well being. Flexibility is a must in my life but I do like having routines and things to stick to, plan and schedule wise.

I’ve been working on some posts ideas for this blog so it’s not just daily updates and stuff, but actual tips, advice, and my current routines and schedules too, to maybe help motivate and inspire you guys! I have some things in mind currently, so hopefully I can find the time to type them up and post them!

Thank you guys for 850+ followers! I never thought my blog could grow like this and I’m super happy it has! This community has given me such a safe and comforting place where I can just be myself without worry. I appreciate all of you so much!! I hope all of you have amazing days, amazing sleep, amazing skin, amazing grades, and that life is going great for all of you!

wednesday made enid feel unnatural.

enid thought that she was in love with ajax. he was nice. aesthetically attractive. he had a great smile and his face was shaped in a way that was nice to look at. he was enid's friend, so they should've been perfect together.

but loving ajax felt like an obligation.

even with all these factors, all these pluses that would definitely please her parents, she felt nothing. no spark in her chest that people talked about. no giddiness in her stomach that the books and fanfictions paraded. not even the explosion of color that songs emphasized audibly. she felt like she was forced to like ajax, even though no one was explicitly forcing her.

then life decided to throw a confusing fucking mess of a curveball at enid, shake everything she knew up to magnitude 9.0 with the introduction of wednesday.

to enid, wednesday was just natural to love. she felt like an instinct, like it was ingrained in her psyche to fall for her. she's prickly, decorated with spindled metal needles, but enid still chased for embrace. enid would sacrifice hours carefully combing the black waves of frigid icy seas if it meant seeing her face crease. enid cares little for removing the thorns that adorn her stem, instead falling for wednesday's natural coexistence of beauty and violence.

and as enid carefully combed and moved the thorn bushes out of the way, she finds layers to wednesday. her secrecy intrigued her. her hidden feelings of vulnerability and buried remorse made her breath hitch in fascination. she wanted to know how how wednesday thinks. she wanted to know how wednesday feels. she wanted to know how she made wednesday feel.

why did enid fall for her, but not him?

ajax has all the perfect things in a guy that enid could ask for. so why didn't she naturally fall for him? why did she fall for the scary goth chick who's probably plotting her murder instead of cool, funny, friendly ajax?

Ayyyy, Aqua! :D Happy STS! So I'm making my way through Titan Modern AU, and . . . actually, take two questions on it. 8)

I have legitimately looked everywhere, and I am severely curious. :') Have you thought of a title for this one, or is its title literally just Titan Modern AU?

More importantly, tho, how much did you have to change to make the world of Fangthane's Folly fit the modern day? (And what did you end up keeping? I notice there's magic and dwarves, but how different are these bits compared to their DnD roots?)

Hi Jax, this is technically a day late, but not really because time zones are a thing :P. I am very well, thank you. I am enjoying the fact that the words seem to be flowing quite easily for the time being and taking advantage of that to write a lot for all my ongoing series and creating new ones. Thanks very much for the questions, I have a lot to talk about with this AU :D. Answers are under a cut because the second one is going to get quite long.

Question 1

I don't currently have an actual title for this one yet. I have a tendency to title WIPs towards the end of writing them and this one is no exception. I have some vague ideas, but I'm not too concerned about it just yet. Especially since there's a high possibility that this one is going to throw some major curveballs my way once I get into the thick of the plot that might well change the kind of title I want to give it.

Question 2

Ah, the dwarves are technically not a thing for this one. Everyone is more or less human, unless it's directly stated otherwise. The reason Fangthanian women can have beards at all is down to a slight genetic quirk which means they are pre-disposed to much higher testosterone levels than average. The Throffite community, in particular, is very insular and tend to inter-marry within themselves due to a history of discrimination against them.

As to how I changed the setting to fit with the modern aesthetic:

I've modelled Fangthane city a little bit after towns like Fort William, since the location of Fangthane in Allansia has a relatively similar geography to that of the Scottish Highlands. So Fangthane city is no longer built into the mountain, but is a city that was built very close to the mountain (which is now called Ben Oir). Extrapolating from there, and taking into account the maps that exist of Allansia, it was a a matter of figuring out how and why there would be outposts for the kingdom that are so far away from the capital. In that case, an old empire made a lot of sense, and taking into account the relative time period this AU is set in (roughly the 90s to early 2000s), it also made sense that said empire had been disbanded, but that communities deriving from it still exist (hence why Stonebridge and Firetop are still mainly natively Fangthanian). So, yeah, culturally speaking Fangthane is basically the UK transplanted into Allansia at this point.

I wanted some of the history of Toreguarde to remain intact because there are plot things related to that that will pop up later in the story. The city was almost destroyed, officially, by what is considered to have been a terrorist organisation that was working on behalf of another state and/or one of the ruling council of Toreguarde of the time who went just teeny bit mad with power (Greydown was an absolute ass in canon, and is in this AU too).

As the setting, rather purposefully, appears to be lacking in magic, no mentions are made of demons, portals or the breaking of reality, even by those who were present at the time. The remaining Heroes still exist, but I'm working out what their exact roles in all that were. Egrim is still a priest, so that's him covered. Alexis, upon talking to Dru about it, was probably a sniper that was a part of the military forces of Toreguarde at the time, while Selene was probably some sort of science-y nerd person brought in to help explain some of the weirder stuff that went on that was kind of acknowledged and then later given plausible and sensible scientific explanations. She just happened to be somewhat decent at this diplomacy lark when communication with the reinforcements from Fangthane started going south, hence her current role in the story. She probably worked quite closely with Ivan, who I have yet to figure out the details of, with regards to that. I also need to figure out what Fai did and what happened to him...

I am doing a lot of this worldbuilding and adjusting Fantasy canon on the fly, to be quite honest, so not a lot of it is set in stone just yet. However, I have given some thought to the Throffite community both in Fangthane and in Toreguarde and some of their history and culture, drawing a lot on what I established about Throffism in the fantasy canon and doing some major research into the irl history of such things to make sure that anything I write about it is handled as sensitively as possible. I have also written copious notes on the hows and whys of the fractious relationship between Fangthane and Toreguarde that would fit in with more modern (Western, as that is what I'm familiar with) political norms.

L + Favourite places to travel:

I don't really have anything like specific countries in mind for this, but my main thought was that he is sort of a more indoorsy/man-made entertainment kind of tourist rather than a natural beauty tourist whenever he's travelling for fun. I could see him liking going to major cities with lots of interesting museums, theaters, concerts, and exciting thrill-seeking things to do, like skydiving and riding rollercoasters... very much like that one-shot that shows him doing all of those things on a day off by himself, haha:

L + Orientation:

I feel like L is not straight and also has long been aware of that and is casually accepting of it about himself, but in a way where he probably would not announce it outright to anybody unless it blatantly comes up and he has a good reason to mention it. Possibly in a way where he's never even discussed it with anybody else before (if you think of him as somebody who's never been sexually/romantically involved with anybody, which I can see about as readily as I can see him as somebody who's had a bit of experience). I could see him as bi, but gay also works okay for me as well, considering in the manga he never actually really showed sincere attraction to a female character (the anime sort of made him seem more attracted to Misa with a couple added-in little moments than the manga ever did, imo). My main reason for this comes from how suggestive and teasing L can be with his behaviours toward Light at times without ever outright saying anything about himself or his preferences in canon.

This scene is probably the most helpful one to me for deciding how I'd characterize him in a fic about it:

He's getting outright accused of not being straight in a homophobic way because of his suggestive behaviours there, but he doesn't say anything like "I'm not into guys that way" or try to change anybody's mind about thinking of him as possibly not-straight. He kinda just avoids the subject altogether, even when saying he's not doing it because he wants to. I feel like L would also tell people he wasn't straight if he had a reason to do so, but that most of the time he doesn't really see the point in even bringing it up or want to divulge that kind of personal information, and he also just kinda likes to be withholding of information that he feels like people are fishing for from him as well.

L + Beauty:

I think he's somebody who would say he doesn't particularly value physical beauty as much as he does stuff like intelligence and hard work and moral fiber, and would say it's only skin deep or something along those lines, which is part of the reason he puts so little thought or effort into his own appearance. HOWEVER he also is a bit of a prideful stubborn sour grapes character to me too, and I think he likely sometimes avoids focusing on or trying to learn things that he feels he is just not naturally really very good at or would easily be the winner of, and would secretly be a bit embarrassed to be forced to try. Though it might never become a huge priority for him to focus on his own appearance more or anything, I could see him learning to really admire and appreciate different types of beauty more in general if somebody else introduced him to it in a way that interested him and made it seem more important to him. And then I could see him finding ways to surround himself with it more often once he develops more of an eye for it (like, say, has a partner with a good aesthetic sense who can help him decorate his room with a bit more pizzazz).

Just finished Chapter 0 of MASTER DETECTIVE ARCHIVES: RAIN CODE - Review

(No Spoilers)

I've been a Danganronpa fan since mid to late 2021 to early 2022, I find genuine fun in the franchise and the first one and the series, despite all of its glaring flaws, has always been greatly meaningful to me and helped me through a particularly terrible time in my life.

It is why I decided to check out "RAIN CODE", and as of right now I do not regret it at ALL! It feels so refreshing and nice to have the Danganronpa aesthetics back in what is essentially a new one of these with a completely new setting, genre, characters and a new game engine.

Everything about it feels distinctly Kodaka/Danganronpa to the point where I'd call it a spiritual successor, while the soundtrack has not been anything to write much about as of right now, Masafumi Takada has composed a wonderful theme for the game and that motif plays consistently throughout the "Class Trial" equivalent of the game which is the Mystery Labyrinth as well as background tracks in the main dialogue sections as well.

The gameplay I'd describe to be literally Danganronpa but fully in 3D with more quick-time events, this might be divisive for some, but for me, a player with no real expectations, I was pleasantly surprised at how it was.

The game is quite lighthearted and fantastical in tone, but don't let that fool you, this is still Kodaka, barely into Chapter 1 into the game, this game hits you with a murder plan good enough to rival a V3 one with ease while being distinct enough to feel like it has its own cohesive identity that goes beyond Danganronpa, even under that franchise they were constrained, there's none of that here, they can go fantastical as they want. They are definitely not at all holding back and you'll be able to tell going in, I was definitely not prepared for them to throw the curveball they did it when the game had barely just begun.

Even with the Unreal Engine upgrade, it seems they have stuck to a good visual style that matches that of Danganronpa in both 2D and 3D aspects of it.

It maintains enough style and flourish for me to like it even in the 3D Engine, which I was pleasantly surprised by.

To conclude, this is gonna be fun as hell and I'm truly kind of blown away by what they did here. It seems Dangan is back on the menu, bros.

1. Bioshock: Mark Meltzer

This man is the subject of my very first post on tumblr, he must be included here, I adore this sad fuck.

2. Homestuck: Diamonds Droog

A toss up between him and Slick. I was and am a Homestuck Intermission girlie and this must be acknowledged.

3. Dragon Age: Justice

I have many many Dragon Age faves and DAO and also Awakening is so so important to me, but Jorstin here is the fellow I have the most distinct and personal opinions about and is, aside from OCs like my Brosca Warden, Avi, the only one I have a strong rp/fic voice for. He’s such a weird and cool dude!

4. DC Comics/Animated Universe: Martian Manhunter/ J’onn J’onzz

My BOY. I love him most in the VERY specific comic pictured above (1988 miniseries that establishes the Martian gods as being flaming horrorterrors, as we see in Sandman w/L’zoril Dream, it’s GOOD SHIT)—but also in general. Criminally under rated and under represented. A sad fuck, a shape shifting horror, a stranger in a strange land, a bereaved parent, Doing His Goddamn Best. AND sometimes a noir detective send up.

Anyway, speaking of comics.

5. Sandman: Dream of the Endless

I am thrilled to be here in the year of our lord 2024 enthusing about and making friends over this scrunkly wet cat that I first encountered and dearly loved in high school. (I am more than halfway through my 30’s now, so it has been A WHILE). I’m counting Sandman and DC as separate affairs, sorry not sorry.

6. Our Flag Means Death: Izzy Hands

Loved him even before S2, fascinated, I want to put him in a jar and shake him but also keep him safe forever. I am a little soured on the show after s2, but I have dressed up as Izzy and would gladly do so again so he belongs here.

7. Supergiant Hades: Achilles

This SPECIFIC version of Achilles, who has died and continued growing through his pain and regrets and who is a surrogate parent to my BOI Zagreus, is. Fascinating. To me. I was so angry at first to find myself liking him as much as I did! It’s masterful how much characterization Supergiant implies with relatively little. He’s coming after Izzy on the list bc I came to them both in similar ways, looking at myself falling in love and going oh my god HIM? Seriously? And being like yup that war criminal there is my son now!!! (And now of course I’m fond of him all across the mythological/classical board, oh my god Hadesgame what have you done.)

8. Star Wars: Alexsandr Kallus

The only space nazi redemption arc I will accept. (Although I am watching Andor with friends right now and three double agent gingers across the begins to suggest a pattern which is very entertaining to me.)

Anyway A+ arc, love this bastard man, love his giant cat husband, single-handedly keeping me invested in Star Wars, hope his gay happy ending never gets messed with.

9. Les Miserables: Inspector Javert

Another character that I went oh my god REALLY??? That Guy??? About. But he’s so /funny/ in the Brick and Stars is lovely enough that I learned how to play barre chords on my guitar Just For That and look. Look. He is a bastard but he is MY bastard and I will read every redeemed!Javert fic that crosses my path forever the end. (Also a side note: Kallus was originally sold to me by @lokivangelist as “space Javert”)

10. The Witcher: Dandelion/Jaskier (all versions, but repping Hexer below because that’s my favorite!!!)

Throwing a curveball for the last slot! I’ve got a sad dad/monochrome aesthetic/loyal right hand/shapeshifting nonhuman/rigid worldview kinda pattern happening above, and my boi here slip slides away from almost all of those. Except for the loyalty. This man is an absolute ride or die for Geralt and I love that about him. He is also an obnoxious fuckboi but I love that too, especially in a story as heavy as the Witcher frequently can be. (My runner up for this fandom was gonna be book!Lambert, who is similarly narratively savvy and good at puncturing the heaviness of a scene without being straight up comic relief.)

I’ve always really liked wing AUs, but more importantly i’m a pretty avid birdwatcher, and i originally got into art drawing birds, so i wanted to bring a degree of anatomical accuracy and specificity to the wings i gave people haha.

When it comes to choosing the wings, (if you’ll forgive my rambling) I have a couple things i like to think about. The first one is location, i typically like to assign birds to people based on where they’re from, to bring some degree of logic to the word building 😅

Beyond that, some birds have symbolism, or just a “vibe” that i feel fits. sometimes, like with James and the golden eagle, the name is enough (since the first physical trait i associate with James Hunt is his blond hair). Ofc aesthetics are sometimes more important, and some choices (like Jacky Ickx and others you’ll see soon) were purely aesthetic lol.

For this au in particular, I’m sticking to raptors, seabirds, and swifts primarily due to how the traits of these birds would be an advantage in the racing world (strong, fast, or maneuverable fliers) but i might throw in some curveballs for fun 😉 you’ll just have to wait and see who

*ehm* haha anyways, yeah I might be a bit biased towards them since they were the first milgram ship I fell in love with, but in general I just love the potential of their dynamic and how much they’re opposites of each other, whether it be aesthetic or character wise. I’m such a sucker for the happy go lucky gf x stoic and aloof gf or anything similar of that nature it gives me cardiac arrest. And for their dynamic specifically, I especially love how, well, love plays a major theme in both of their characters, with how Mahiru obsesses and lives for it, while Kotoko completely detaches from it because she views it as a “weakness”. HOWEVER, at the end of the day, they both want love and acceptance, and they would absolutely destroy each other in the name of love if they were together <333 toxic doomed tragic yuri for the win YIPPIEEE

Also oooh 0609! :0 I think they’re cute! I might prefer them more as friends, but that’s just my personal preference for them! I could definitely imagine them as total besties who love to hang out occasionally and drink. They would have fun without a care in the world and be silly together and that’s neat fr <3
