I’m sorry but I fell in love tonight,
I didn’t mean to fall in love tonight,
you’re looking like you fell in love tonight,
could we pretend that we’re in love?

“You poets are obsessed with stars. Falling stars. Shooting stars. Dying stars.” “Stars are important,” I say, laughing. “Sure but why not more poems about the sun? The sun is also a star, and it’s our most important one. That alone should be worth a poem or two.”
—The sun is also a star, by Nicola Yoon 🌞

Her
I wonder
If she feels
The shivers
That I felt;
When your hands
Whispered
To my skin.

“I wanted to tell them that I never knew that people like Dante exsisted in the world, people who looked at the stars and knew the mysteries of water and knew enough to know that birds belonged to heavens and weren’t meant to be shot down from their graceful flights by mean and stupid boys.”

The “masterpiece”
How you praise the beauty of the sun,
that is burning;
and the moon,
that doesn’t shine on its own.
You don’t like what you see,
when you look in the mirror,
yet you manage a smile,
every time you see a wilting rose.
You ignore all the faults of the universe,
and look at it with love, so much love,
in your eyes;
how do you forget, that you’re a part of it,
and god made you when he thought,
without you the universe won’t suffice?

The crumpling heart
I look at you,
while you smile at me.
And i’ve never seen a faker smile,
still, I smile back,
my fullest smile.
I ask about your day,
the smile doesn't waver.
Darling, you don’t know it,
but you’ve always been,
an awful liar.
You look at you phone,
and I know it’s not your friends;
you tell me you love me,
and I tell my heart,
not to flutter as i watch,
your retreating back.
One traitorous tear,
stumbles out,
as I sit there, waiting for the day,
you’ll come to me,
and tell me,
“I’m sorry but it was all a mistake.”

Wreckage
It occurred to me,
that maybe,
i’m not the only one,
mourning over,
the ruins of us.
So, I asked the moon,
how you were,
and I was met,
with silence so deafening,
it’s loudness numbed,
my ears.

Favourites
I wander off,
To the times,
You were a step away from me,
And I wonder,
If you still,
Love that movie I never saw,
Or that song,
which was always playing;
If you still favour,
The numb winter winds,
Over the sultry summer evenings;
Or if you still like bare skies,
Unlike me.
But then I realize,
Probably not,
Because fascinations alter,
And favourites distort.
Because once,
You were allured to me,
Because once I was,
Your favourite one.

Unpossessed possesion
It was so beautiful,
That I already knew,
It would end,
Before it even started.
I knew it would end,
When I would be,
All the way into it.
I knew it would end,
Because,
When has something,
So beautiful ever stayed?
But that didn’t stop me,
Because I wanted to know,
What it feels like,
To be on the brink,
Of salvation.
I wanted to know,
What it feels like,
To be robbed of something,
I could never possess.

The mender
So, if I tell you,
That I’ve been broken before,
Will you try, and,
Piece me together?
If I tell you,
Some pieces were lost,
Along the way,
Will you take on the trouble,
To seek them?
For I’m at your doorstep,
Begging at your threshold,
Waiting for you,
To hold me together.
Will you love me, if I tell you,
Not all broken are fixed,
Not all lost are found,
Will you love the broken pieces?
Will you love a scarred heart?

I want to be able to dance and sing perfectly and write beautifully and play the piano and a guitar and I want to know everything about this Earth and quantum physics and about distant planets that sound impossible yet are real, and I want to travel the world, and hear stories from people about centuries old traditions and learn how to cook their favorite dishes. I want to know. I want to understand. This universe is too big for one life.
