Spirit Work: The Power of Hanging Out
Elaborate rituals, intense meditations, and huge gestures have their places in spirit work. There's value in putting a massive effort into something for the spirits you venerate or work with. And sometimes, you need to do these big things for a particular outcome or as part of your tradition.
I have a bias against big, elaborate rituals for this purpose, though. In my practice, it's just unnecessary. All of the relationships I have and maintain with spirits are, at their cores, friendships. They're not working relationships, they're not worshiper-worshiped relationships, they're not transactional relationships. My spirits are my friends.
So I approach working with them like friendship. I'll light a candle and set a cup of coffee or tea on their altar in the same way I'd offer a friend a cup of tea when they visit. If I'm working on something, I'm accustomed to body doubling as someone with ADHD, and I like to invite my friends to work alongside me. In the same way, I'll invite my spirit friends to participate or just hang around while I work.
Heck, they hang out while I write these posts sometimes!
Not everything in spirit work has to be intense and serious. Yes, you should be respectful -- in the same way that you should be respectful to your neighbors and your friends. And yeah, not all spirits can or should be treated this way.
But I would like to posit the humble power of Hanging Out.
What I Mean By That
Literally. Hanging out.
Whatever you normally do to "call" your spirit(s), do that. My method is lighting a candle of some sort. Sometimes, I'll choose a scented candle if I'm trying to lure a particular spirit to the area, but an unscented taper candle will do just fine.
And then, you hang out. That's it.
If you're watching YouTube, invite the spirit to watch with you. Ask their opinions on what to watch, if you have an easy way to communicate with them. (One of my spirits loves Ghost Hunting TV Shows. He thinks it's hilarious.)
If you're playing a video game, leave space on the couch for the spirit to settle next to you to watch.
Make dinner, chat about your days. Set aside a little plate for them if you want. Eat together.
The Value in Hanging Out
The idea here is that time is valuable. Time spent with someone else is valuable on its own, even if that time is spent doing little to nothing "productive."
Think about your friends and the people you enjoy spending time with. It isn't always clubs, parties, exploring, hiking, running, traveling, or whatever else you do. Even if that's how you met or your main activity together, there are always casual moments. Easy breakfasts, simple conversations, sleepovers in your PJs, watching movies.
Quality time is powerful. Choosing to spend your time with someone sends a clear message: "I value your presence."
Not everything has to be an elaborate party. Sometimes, all you want is to sit down and hang out.
Why can't it be the same with spirits? The answer is that it can. In my practice, I rarely do anything that elaborate. I'll put extra effort in for special occasions like holidays, but usually, it's a simple act of lighting a candle, saying hello, and then sitting down with the spirit to just hang out.
Not every relationship requires constant, intense focus. Especially if you're looking to befriend your spirits, rather than just work with them, the Power of Hanging Out is a valuable asset to keep in mind.
It doesn't have to be every day, either. I have a sort of open, standing invitation for whichever spirits to hang out whenever they like. They're welcome to chill anytime, unless I ask to be left alone. Because of our relationship, they respect that. (Usually -- the only time they don't is if something urgent has come up or they need something.)
I developed the theory of Hanging Out years ago. Spirit work was where I started, and it's always been Home to me. But it's intense sometimes, and a lot of what I was doing was burning me out very, very fast. So I adapted on the fly, as one does, and it ended up working really well.
Now, Hanging Out is my primary method of doing spirit work. Even with spirits I don't know or in new locations, there's value in projecting an aura of "I'm just here to chill. Feel free to talk to me, or don't. It's cool." Spirits, shockingly, respond to that. I end up with a lot of interesting, casual conversations, light taps on the shoulder to let me know I've been acknowledged by something that doesn't want to talk, and various visual anomalies from shy critters in the shadows.
Think of it like slow blinking at a cat or offering the back of your hand to a dog. Approaching respectfully and calmly in a very casual way attracts things that otherwise wouldn't show themselves. The Power of Hanging Out is alluring to even the shyest spirits.
Again, obviously, this won't work for all spirits. Do what works for what you work with. I've found Hanging Out works best with ancestors, house spirits, land spirits, and assorted ghosties over the years. It's not so good with, say, the Good Neighbors. But hey, maybe your experience will differ.
Extra Benefits of Hanging Out
Aside from the relationship benefits of casually sitting and hanging out, there are even more practical benefits. As a side-effect of adapting spirit work in this way to work for me, my senses for spiritual energy shot through the roof.
I've always been pretty sensitive. I'm that weird kid at the next table over in the restaurant who clocked the spirit of your recently-deceased aunt who left you her necklace which you're wearing under your shirt and which I couldn't have possibly seen. But when I started Hanging Out and just existing in a space with spirits, everything sort of... exploded.
It's like recognizing your family's footsteps coming down the hallway. When I stopped trying to force myself to understand and recognize every scrap of energy, it all washed over me instead. And in the Energy Soup, I started to recognize more signs and signals without effort.
This is, in my opinion, the greatest benefit of Hanging Out, even for people who don't do spirit work at all. There's no meditative aspect to it, really (though you can certainly meditate to enhance it, if that's something you do). It's just sitting and being receptive.
I don't think this method will work for everyone. People who have zero sensitivity to spirits may not see any results. But I think it has value even for those people.
At its core, Hanging Out is a mindfulness exercise. If you can't be with spirits, be with yourself. Put the call out to whoever or whatever you work with, venerate, sense -- or things you'd like to get to know better. See what answers.
Light a candle.
Say, "If you want to come sit with me and watch TV, feel free. I have popcorn."
Hang Out.

Not the hottest take....really just me rambling my thoughts...
I wish there were more witch spaces that are UPG friendly? Obviously i know my experiences will not be universal with everyone else? And my relationship with deities and spirits will be vastly different than others and not always textbook. Honestly i just wanna share my silly little fun stories without the fear of being excessively ridiculed.
But while ill always refer back to the textbook for research because it's important, it just comes to a point where if you only equate all of spritiual and divine to just textbooks and only textbooks? It takes away the ability for said spirits and divinity to have individual personality. Or atleast become void of it. Meeting spirits to me is like meeting people. Youll never really know anything about them unless you take the time to get to know them. But this is just my own perspective. I dont expect anyone to agree with this.

Every December - January the old woman of Winter is celebrated. For the past 3 years I have been teaching a class about these woman of myth and folklore. My fascination started with connecting to the ancestral spirits of my heritage La Befana and The Cailleach, and learning along the way the connection they have to the other fascinating woman of Winter and the land. I hope to see you there.
To check out my upcoming class and my other on demand and upcoming classes, go to Zinzeudo University at zinzeudo.com
The holiday season is a time for many things, family, food, and magic. The time between early
December until Mid January is full of spirit activity and stories of Witches, Ghosts, Goblins, and
Elves, some of these stories are terrifying in there own way and some are heartfelt and warm.
Most of these stories and traditions came from pagan beginnings, the legend of La Befana is no
different. The traditions of The Christmas Witch in Italy are old, full of pagan symbolism, and
goddess worship. Looking deep in these legends we open up a different side to the old woman
of Winter and relation to the Old Hag from many cultures. We will touch on the similarities La
Befana has with other Crone and Hag Goddesses as The Cailleach, Baba Yaga, Berchta, Hulda,
and Ragana. As well as similarities to Abundance Goddesses like Strenia, Abundia, and Feronia.
Join me as we travel with La Befana The Christmas Witch.
In this class we will learn
- Lore
- How to build a relationship
- Creating a shrine
- Offerings

Buying Your Graveyard Dirt.
Tumblr media
O, yeah, Graveyard Dirt ... the magical ingredient that so many authors of modern "magic" books might get wrong. Graveyard Dirt is, plain and simply, dirt that is bought from a grave to be used in magical workings with the the assistance and the power of a spirit/spirits in whatever magical working you are doing.
Some authors have claimed that graveyard dirt is either ground patchouli or ground up mullein. This is false based on their own European magico-cultural systems.
Graveyard Dirt is used in hance everything from Love Spells to Crossings. You can sprinkle a mixture of graveyard dirt, sulfur and red pepper in someone's tracks to curse them. You can sprinkle a little graveyard dirt (obtained from the grave of someone who loved you) on someone's hair to make them fall in love with you. You can add graveyard dirt to mojo bags to gain the assistance of a spirit in accomplishing your goal.
But Whose Graveyard Dirt Do You Use?Picking the right grave is important, because you want to choose the right spirit for the right job. Some say to use the graveyard dirt of a very young child because they are easily manipulated to do your bidding like a grave from a soldier. That's writing on Lucky Mojo site. But I'm here to tell you NO real root worker is using kids. Let them rest...
But the important thing to remember is your magical goal and how to accomplish it correctly. You don't want a soldier working to get you your perfect mate or lover. Just as you wouldn't want to have the spirit of your mom to help curse someone.
Consider These Examples:
Using the graveyard dirt of a lawyer to win a Court Case.
Using the graveyard dirt of a detective or police officer to expose and put away a rapist.
Using the graveyard dirt of a dock worker to get steady employment
Using your grandma's graveyard dirt to get your perfect mate or lover.
Using graveyard dirt from a doctor to help you overcome illness.
This type of dirt from these human spirits will in hance your work but find the right spirit.
How to obtain Graveyard Dirt:
Graveyard Dirt must be purchased. (not just dug up any were in the graveyard) It is obtained through a contract. This contact is to in list the help from the spirit of the person that was buried there. There are a few techniques for buying graveyard dirt as there are ways of using it, but I will give my own two versions.
Supplies Needed:
A trowel.
A plastic bag.
A small bottle of whiskey (like the kind they give out on airplanes)
A mercury dime (any silver coin) 9 dimes. 9. pennies.
Flowers.
A candle and some way to light it.
A label or piece of paper and a pen to write with.
Process: For Obtaining The Dirt:
Some like going to a cemetery to get graveyard dirt on the dark moon, it's not traditional for African Diasporic religion or practices like Voodooist and traditional Hoodoo Root Doctors to use Moon phases but again if fine if it works. Have all of your supplies in your plastic bag and the flowers in hand (so that folks think you are just going to visit a grave and clean it up.)
(Please remember to check your state law some can't go at night) As I reach the gates of the cemetery, I leave 9 pennies in honor of the spirit who owns and guards all cemeteries. (Some spirits don't want to move on and think there duty is to protect the graves.) Ask for ther permission and protection while I do my work and then I proceed in.
Finding the Live Grave: I would start in the center of the cemetery, walking on foot and hold the lit candle in my hand, talk to the spirits of the graveyard telling them the work you wish to accomplish whild asking who among them will assist me in my work. Then just wait for that sign like a tug or that would lead you in the right direction they will lead you toward the right grave.
When you get there, place the candle on the grave, sit and meditate/pray with that spirit for a while explaining your situation. Ask for their permission and assistance and if you get an yes, then begin to buy the dirt.
Buying the Graveyard Dirt: Take the dirt from the head of the grave. Others say to take dirt from from other spots. It personal preference.
Cut out a small plug in the dirt, dig down about 6 inches or so into the dirt. Then reach down grab the dirt and put it in the plastic bag. Drop the silver dime into the hole for payment. Thanking the spirit and saying "As I have paid you in silver, so shall you pay me in labor!" (Basically giving them a quick job)
Give them there offering if it's liquor, pour some into the hole, and put back the plug of sod to cover the hole.
Write down the name, birth and death dates that's on the gravestone on a piece of paper Then hold the bag of dirt in my hand and pray hard and loud for the spirit of the grave to come with me, that he has work to do, and that it is through his work that his spirit will be elevated and redeemed.
Leave the candle to burn on the headstone and place the flowers at the grave. (Check if the neighboring headstone is the individual's spouse and leave flowers there too). Leave the grave knowing that you have that spirit's assistance and his power in his grave's dirt.
Lay out the dirt on a piece of foil or towel and let it dry out for a few days. Once fully dry, sift through the dirt to remove any roots or rocks etc from the dirt and store the dirt back in the bag with the name, birth and death dates of the spirit on it.
Every time I use the dirt, I call the spirit by name This is powerful, old-time southern hoodoo, and voodoo to ask, receive and get help and dirt for your working. Don't command the spirit you don't control them. (Please don't disrespect the graves and the graveyard)
One last thing.....
Just to clarify, Hoodoo is based in African American folk lore, not Northern folklore. It is traditional in hoodoo and Vodou to buy graveyard dirt with a coin and whiskey. It is not traditional to leave food offerings if your buying.
As for substituting plants, that I keep hearing that is also not traditional hoodoo. Plants have spirits that are unique and different.
I do not recommend substituting plants without some knowledge good research of their uses.
I also have read the Lucky Mojo site on Vandal root useing it with graveyard Dirt in love spells. l will say this Vandal Root is a cursing herb. It is not a protective herb, and it is Certainly NOT used to ward off evil.
In fact it is used in Black Arts oil and Crossing Powder. So you can substitute with other herbs that do similar things like Devil's Dung or Mullein, but don't please make the mistake of thinking for a second that Barberry, Broom, Butterfly Bush, Devil's Pod, or Knot Weed do the same thing because they don't. Those ARE protective herbs, but Vandal Root is NOT a protective herb.

Danny was enjoying himself. His new haunt was suprisingly spacious and came with lots of charges who needed protection and care.
The old butler guy, Alfred, seemed to at least have an idea of what was going on. He had been making extra food lately and leaving it out for Danny to eat in a secluded area. Danny always made sure to turn the plate invisible and sneak it back to his hidden passage panic room before he started eating.
In return, Danny made sure to do lots of chores around the manor. Intangibility and wind manipulation made dusting super easy if you knew how to use it right.
Danny also took his job as a guardian spirit seriously. He overheard the bats fighting about not wanting to be coddled on patrol and decided it was best to let them handle themselves outside of the manor. Danny himself hated when people stuck thier noses into his business.
Jazz had screwed him over countless times with her good intentions.
But the manor was different. This was his new haunt after his old one kicked him out. This family had invited him in whether they knew it or not. Also, since the Fentons and GIW don't exist in this world, they'd have a hell of a time kicking him out.
It's best not to let it come to that. So Danny had to make these people love him the way Amity Park never did.
The Wayne's however are rather dense. You would think them being the worlds greatest detectives would mean something, but they kept silently blaming each other for things happening around the manor until they couldn't.
A book being put away when they were done with it or their messes being cleaned up when they came back into a room could be easily explained by how many people lived there. The family entering the dining room, discussing what they were going to order for dinner since Alfred was gone for a week only to find a full meal waiting for them on the diner table? They couldn't brush that off.
None of them could cook.

(2) Understand what you want to break and how

(3) Can't do it? Find someone who can
Tumblr media
(4) It's going to look really bad for a while
Tumblr media
(5) Have fun with it!
Tumblr media
(1) -Yes, I am that kind of artist. Yet, not in the conventional way. I encourage people to go in guns blazing when it comes to drawing something new, then coming out analyzing what they know, and what they need to learn more of right away.
-Here, I broke down the anatomical pieces of Nour and Narinder's face with the same labels so you guys can understand this weird invisible pattern that I follow in my work. Doing this with any animal you're attempting to draw greatly improves your line confidence when drawing different face shapes. Also understanding the biological function for why animals look a certain way helps you keep consistency.
(3) Time to throw any artistic guilt you have for heavily referencing people's art OUT THE WINDOW and start ANALYZING PEOPLE'S WORK YOU WANT TO BE LIKE✨ I've always done this, having a reference of someone else's amazing work right next to my own drawing so I can try and understand how they make their magic work! No shame, no embarrassment, nada. Pure, unadulterated will and spite that I would be just as good as the artist who made me so motivated and happy with their work! I couldn't figure out how to make Nour's face both sheep-like, and humanly expressive, so I looked at a LOT of Zootopia and old Disney art for help!
(2) With how I draw narilamb, I'm still working on it (as you can see) but I wanted to break Narinder's face to be fluffier and slimmer, while Nour's face would be shorter and flatter. If you look at it for too long, it's absolutely going to look weird, in the way that if you look at Anna from Frozen for too long she starts looking really weird. The anatomy isn't meant to be correct or consistent, it's meant to convey the emotion and energy I want out of the characters in that moment. If you're able to properly get that across, then you don't need to think about how broken something looks, as long as your eye is happy enough to trick your brain into thinking what you're seeing is canny.
(4) Yeah, I hate this part too. It's going to look like shit at first. I can't even look at my art from a few months ago when I was figuring out their designs... God, so fucking ugly. If it weren't for the shittiness of those drawings, I would have never gotten here! Wading through the "trust the process" stage always really sucks, but it's absolutely worth the relief of when you finally get something to look right.
(5) Art is work, yes. It's stressful, it's long, it's straining, its draining, it's exclaiming, blah blah blah. But, I try to keep my art FUN. If I find my artwork becoming slow as I depressingly drag my pen over my tablet, I'm failing. You MUST keep spirit and life in your work. The spirit of emptiness or the life of sadness can have a very meaningful place in art, but those can only exist with keeping work light, easy, and fun! If you're stressing how a specific thing looks or how you can't get something to look right no matter what, FUCK IT. Draw something to bring the flavor back in your work! I'm kind of rambling, but just, HAVE FUN!✨️ Be messy, scream, laugh, slash canvases, throw paint, smash sculptures, tear apart books, GO CRAZY

What is movement meditation, ecstatic dance, trance dance, and somatic movement?
If you have been a dancer your whole life or you are new to dancing, it doesn't matter! Either way, dance is within you, and your body wants you to move! To close your eyes and let loose. To remind you that you are a sacred being, and you are free to express yourself as you please.
What are these practices, and how are we able to use them to better our lives and wellbeing.
In this course, we will not only learn how to dance in a somatic and ecstatic practice, we will connect with our guides, learn about our primal animal spirits, as well as our plant spirits that we are connected to. If you want to learn how to connect to these spirits and how it's related to ecstatic dance, then join me in person at @majixdragon starting on 5/11 at 4:30pm.

Working With Voodoo Spirits.
Tumblr media
The Loa as Guardians One of Voodoo is the Loa. A Loa is a Voodoo spirit ( not god's) from Hati and used in Louisiana voodoo, that aids the practitioner in life, including with success, sexuality, spirituality, protection, healing and even in death.
Loa to angels or guardians. The Loa are divided into groups or “nations” known as Nanchons. Some are easier to approach and work with than others. Each and every one MUST be approached with a humble respect and working knowledge.
Saints and Voodoo:
Spirits Sycretization is the blending (or disguise) of one religious belief/custom with another. In the Voodoo tradition, the African slaves brought to Louisiana and other countries against their will were forced to adapt their captors’ religions – one of which was Catholicism.
Papa Legba is also portrayed as Saint Lazarus or Saint Anthony or St. Peter. Depending on the country your in.
You can work with their Saint forms, as well. The Nanchons (Families) of Loa, Voodoo Spirits. The Nanchons are families of Voodoo spirits, some from Africa and others from the New World.
Rada: Cool Voodoo Spirits.
The Rada nanchon is considered the “cool” Voodoo spirit family. The Loas within this nanchon are strong spirits and are mostly benevolent to their followers.
The Rada nanchon includes Papa Legba, Marassa, Ezili Freda, and Lasiren etc.
The Rada nanchon are the first to be called upon during ritual and are the oldest Loa from Africa.
Petro Loa:
Hot Voodoo Spirits.
Petro. These Voodoo spirits have roots in Haiti. The Voodoo spirits of the Petro nanchon are wilder and more apt to mischief and malevolence. Voodoo spirits in the Petro nanchon include Met Kalfu and Ezili Dantor. Ghede Loa are made up of spirits who have lived human lives before.
They are Voodoo spirits that watch over the graveyards and the dead. They often are boisterous and have wild party-like personalities.
Tumblr media
The Barons lead this nanchon including Baron Samedi, Kriminel, and Maman Brigitte. (Although Maman is not that hot headed)
There are other Families Spirits that we including Igbo and Kongo, both heavily revered in Haiti. In addition to New Orleans Voodoo tradition works with some spirits that might not have a traditional Nanchon (family) including Marie Laveau, Dr. John, and Black Hawk.
Tumblr media
Papa Ghede: (used in New Orleans)
Voodoo Spirit of Death. Papa Gede is a spirit who waits at the crossroads to take souls into the afterlife. He is considered the good counterpart to Baron Samedi.
Papa Ghede is often pictured smoking a cigar, wearing sunglasses, and donning a big smile. His personality is jovial and whacky. In addition to being the Voodoo spirit of death and graveyards, he is a spirit of sexuality.
Witches and Voodoo:
Spirits. Many of us would be frightened if followed by a Voodoo spirits, but maybe we shouldn’t be. These spirits, like Papa Ghede, guide us to the afterlife. But, sometimes, they may reach out to those they feel they could teach. I believe this is why (witches) outside the of Voodoo tradition are sometimes approached by the Loa. Because we have one foot in this world and one foot in the spirit world, it’s common for witches to see spirits from the Voodoo tradition and beyond. ( Like I said in another post even if your practicing traditional Hoodoo does not mean you can't be called by another spirit or deity from another religion)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Papa Legba:
Voodoo Spirit of the Crossroads.
Papa Legba is a Loa in the Rada nanchon. While he’s known to be a jokester, he is also benevolent. He is the son of two major Voodoo spirits: Dangabala Wedo and Ayida Wedo. Legba is the mediator between the Loa and the Great Master Spirit (God), like Saint Lazarus. Every traditional Voodoo ritual invites Legba into the circle first, as he opens the gates at the crossroads for the others to come through.
An introductory song may go something like this: Legba, open the gates for me So that I may go through Upon my return I shall greet the Lwa. Pspa Legba open the gate for me So that I may come in.Amen.
( or you can speak to St Lazarus) In Haitian Vodou, the image of Saint Lazarus for the crutch that he uses for support or St Peter for the keys that he holds, are used to represent Papa Legba. God and humans, in many ways similar to Jesus Christ.
So You Want to Work with Voodoo Spirits?
If you plan to invite the Loa into your rituals or work with them in your (witchcraft), do thorough research first. Know exactly which nanchon and Loa you’re working with and what their traits are, whether benevolent or mischievous. Know what offerings they prefer. You must show respect.

6 Types of Protection Magick
Tumblr media
There are many ways one can do protective magick. In this post I'll be going into 6 of the most common and accessible ones!
Please understand that even one "protection magick type" can be done in an infinity of ways, some of which are closed to certain practices.
Disclaimer: based on my experience and research. I don't claim to know all truth. Further study is encouraged!
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
#1 — Magic circle
Tumblr media
The magic circle consists of creating a protection and delimiting a sacred space for magic and/or ritual.
The magic circle is probably one of the most popular protection methods thanks to its encouraged use in Wicca. However, other traditions have made use of similar concepts, such as in the afro-brazillian Umbanda concept of "chain".
The circle can be physically drawn on the ground, delimited by the members inside the circle, or visualized.
Casting one is fairly simple since it can be done in different ways, either in groups or solitary practice. You can use tools such as wands, chalk or physical objects to draw it, but what matters most is intention and successful visualization.
Before casting a circle it's important to have everything you will need already within grasp and inside the circle, since once created it is advisable that no one leaves it until the work is complete.
#2 — Amulets, and Enchanted Items
Tumblr media
Enchanted Items are a very popular and effective form of magic, especially for personal use. These are often common objects that have been enchanted for protection.
They are often necklaces, rings and other jewelry since these are the most practical to carry around without suspicion. However, they can be any object.
Amulets can be created via enchanting, charms, or by asking deities and spirits to bless them with protective qualities.
The material and imagery used to create the talisman is also important in determining the kind of job it wants to do.
#3 — Sigils and other drawn Symbols
Tumblr media
Sigils and Symbols can be used both for personal protection and for warding spaces. Here I am also including Runes.
They can be carved into objects, drawn upon skin and surfaces, or even tattooed.
However, before using any sigil, symbol or rune it is of extreme importance that you know exactly what they do, and know as much about them as possible. Especially if you plan on drawing them on your skin (either temporarily or permanently).
Unless specifically used only for protection purposes, inadequate use of them can lead to disaster. Even then, the type of protection they bring can vary.
For example, a protection sigil that works by hiding you from threats is different from a sigil that fights threats that come to you. It's important to set or to know how their protection work so that you do not come across unwanted results.
#4 — Prayer
Tumblr media
My definition of praying: focusing on sending a message to a higher spiritual power, be it an entity, deity or energy.
Prayers are a great way of manifesting protection, though since you are asking for it to a higher power you must understand that it may choose to not grant it, or not grant it in the way you expect.
Plus, it is very important to know where you stand with this energy or entity. Do you work with them already? For how long? What is the nature of the relationship? Do you truly know them well enough to ask them for this? Is it really appropriate?
Cultivating a good relationship and having manners can be decisive factors for manifesting this sort of protection. Plus, it's always good to "give back" in some way. To receive something, something must be given eventually.
#5 — Affirmations and Visualizations
Tumblr media
Words and the mind have innate power. Affirmations and visualizations are great ways to manifest protections because they rely only on yourself.
They are easier to do right if you use them together with other methods, or if you have physical representations of the work being done. To be successful one must focus, "feel" them happening, and maintaining that without help can be difficult. Frequent practice will help you get the hang of it.
There are also techniques that make affirmations and visualizations both more powerful and easier to accomplish.
#6 — Warding
Tumblr media
Warding is when you set up a semi-permanent protection in a specific place, such as your house.
It can be done in many different ways. One of the most common is to have an object or place designated as the "holder" of the ward, which should be well kept.
Warding will be more powerful if you are frequently cleansing the space and recharging the ward. Leaving it alone for too long can weaken in or make it lose its properties altogether.
Some plants are used for this kind of protection, since they (usually) stay in place, can be powerful magical allies, and you'll be checking on them often anyway. The ones usued are often those with thorns, threatening-looking leaves, or even poison.
Note: always be very careful about bringing poisonous plants home, especially if you have children or pets.

Conclusion
This was an overview of the most common types of protective magick. A lot of protection spells and works fall somewhere within these categories, or are a combination of them.
Each tradition has a certain way of going about spiritual protection, so if you are exploring an specific path, I encourage you to not only research about protection in general but to also look into what unique techniques your path has to offer!
Many blessings and thank you for reading! ♡
