Quick reminder for both new pagans and experienced pagans: it's normal to not always feel a deity's presence, and it's normal even if you never feel their presence. You're not doing anything wrong.

Had my first big interaction with Loki a few days and WOW. My respect and love for them has grown. They were so excited and wanted me to start putting milkshakes and stickers in my pinterest altar for them. Next time I actually have a milkshake I'll definitely be sharing with them lol

(not meant to be mean) idrc if people are queering the gods. i think it's actually a good thing, as queer devotion helps bring us (i.e., queer people) closer to our gods...
consider its alternative: there are fascist polytheists who are trying to reinvent ancient social hierarchies & using the gods to justify it.
of all the ways we could be negotiating and engaging the gods, queering them is perhaps the most innocuous.

It's my personal belief that just about every beginning pagan and polytheist who worries about upsetting their gods if they don't give enough offerings should go one or two months without giving any offerings but still politely ask their gods for assistance.
Why in the hell would I say this? It's simple, dear friends: it could hopefully show them that, hey, gods are actually a lot more chill and willing to help than mainstream paganism and polytheism would have us believe.
The gods aren't going to devour your soul for asking for their help. It's my opinion that they actually appreciate being valued and trusted enough by you for you to rely on them in your times of need. You don't need to feel guilty for asking for help - that's the main point of this post.

Why are ‘witch tips’ always like “use quartz as a substitute for any crystal!” and not the good stuff like “River spirits are almost always looking to fuck shit up, so if you rile em up and then feed them a name, they’ll lay someone tf out.”

one thing i'm getting nailed into my head is that you don't have to ask spirits just for important things.
i promised a cup of coffee to whoever was going to help me get a good parking spot under cover (it was raining and i had no umbrella) and lo and behold, it worked out.
you don't have to leave prayer, offerings, promises, what have you, for only the Big Bad Problems. you can just ask for the little problems too - sure, sometimes the answer will be "no" or you'll get something unexpected, but asking for help regardless doesn't have to always warrant expected, predictable results (in my opinion).
sometimes just trusting a spirit enough to be vulnerable with them can be a great stepping stone in forging a good relationship. that means something.

When you fuck up while casting, laugh it off. If you drop an offering, laugh it off. Mispronounced a word? Laugh it off. Mildly burned your thumb while lighting a candle? You get the idea.
Being a practitioner is gonna come with mistakes because we're human in the same breath. Stop taking yourself so seriously, and laugh about the dumb shit that happens in Circle.

rusalki are not mermaids. stop translating the word "rusalka" as "mermaid" and stop calling rusalki "slavic mermaids". it's confusing, it's misleading, and it's simply isn't true. the association of rusalka with a western mermaid and undine began in 19th century, when russian empire poets wanted to adapt a popular western motif of a sorrowful water maid that is unrequitedly in love with a mortal man. this literature character of rusalka has nothing to do with actual rusalki folklore and cult.
rusalki are natural undead spirits that are connected to slavic ancestral worship. they don't have tails. they are not in any way connected to the sea: only lakes, ponds, and rivers. often, they're not even connected to water at all: there are forest rusalki, field rusalki, meadow rusalki, etc. they are in close relationships with their human kin: during the spring and summer, they are used in agricultural rites and are believed to help with farming and raising crops. rusalki were sacred to slavic people. the "week of the rusalki" festival, when rusalki are believed to walk on earth and visit their relatives, is celebrated to this day. to call them "slavic mermaids" is very diminutive of their actual role in slavic cultures.

The old gods find home in the hearts and altars of ALL their children. If you are a BIPOC, queer, disabled, trans, and/or part of any other marginalized group--never forget that you are welcome, worthy, and loved.
No Nazis/TERFs/bigots in Valhalla, or any other of the gods' halls. Odin is the all-father, not the some-father.

I bashed atheists, and Christians. Now it's time for Norse fuck sticks who use this practice as a way to preach their ass backwards messages. I do not approve nor will allow my religion to be used for racist propaganda. To anyone just starting out this is a very real threat we face and one we cannot allow it to taint our traditions. We practice inclusion, love, acceptance, not bigotry and white supremacy.

These people who are called Folkist or who worship Wotan are fucking cowards and may they never reach the halls of the gods.
