Tumblr media
The next morning comes too soon and with too little sleep. Despite your efforts, you couldn’t lay still long enough to get much rest. Every time you sunk into the shallows of sleep, you were just as quickly awoken by visions of the unknown. You don’t know anything beyond the time at which you’ll set off to your fate; nine o’clock.
You don’t need an alarm. You're already awake and alert. You sit up and rub your temples until the thumping dulls. You can’t entirely shake the pulsing thrum.
You drag yourself to your feet and cross to your dresser. You open each drawer, sifting through the contents with disappointment. You don’t have anything that nice. You pick out your nicest jeans and a halter top Roxie gave you. You’ll be sweating your bum off in the denim but you don’t have many skirts or even shorts.
You can hear your mother getting ready for her own day of work. Of actual work. You wait until she’s done to claim the bathroom. She’s off only a couple minutes after, calling out a goodbye and I love you that you return in a higher pitch than you mean to.
You dress and tidy yourself up as best you can. Your bedtime shower did little to help you sleep but at least it saves you a step. You spritz yourself with strawberry body spray and try to smile at your reflection as you put your toothbrush back.
Sigh. Did Bucky really call you sexy?
It’s not even eight. Lots of time to wallow in anxiety and self-doubt. You pace around the front room, ready to go, but not really. You have your purse with the fringe and your least-worn flats. They pinch around your toes but they’re cute; pink loafers with a little leather rose on each.
You cradle your phone then squeeze it hard enough to make it light up. Only a few minutes. Or not. You hear a car outside and peer through the curtain. You recognise the vehicle. Shoot, time to go. Oh, god, what are you doing?
You lock the door behind you and turn to face the gallows. Each step is filled with sand, your legs are heavy and your feet clunky. As you near, Merv appears to open the door for you. You’re surprised but not to find Bucky waiting within.
As you slide onto the seat, he watches you and rumbles out a silty, ‘morning, doll.’ You aren’t ready. You don’t know why but you thought the drive would give you time to toss away the last of your caution but you’re clinging to it like a raft. You feel entirely powerless. More than you ever have.
What he promises, money; you always assumed it would give you more control, that it would solve all your problems, but it’s really just a new set of problems. You settle onto the seat as the door closes and buckle your seat belt, focusing on the simple task. He stretches his arm over the back of the seat as you lean against it and his heat seethes into you.
“Good morning,” you force out at last.
“That’s a cute shirt,” he purrs as his hand wanders down to tickle your bare shoulder, your nude bra strap showing garishly. “Would look better without this.” He touches the strap and you make a noise. “But I can wait for that, doll.”
You stare forward. The divider between you and the front seat is up. You are completely alone. You feel your heart about to swell and split.
“I’ll admit, I was up late last night,” his arms shifts slightly as he leans forward. You only notice then the scent of coffee and two cups in the holders behind the console. “Got a pick-me-up to start the day. Gotta be awake for you, doll.”
He takes one of the cups and you realise, he means to offer it to you. You feel too bad to tell him you’re not much for coffee. “It’s called a blue dream tea latte? I think it’s blueberry or something. I saw it in some ad online. Sounded like something you’d like.”
“Oh, thanks, er, it does?” You murmur. You’d seen the same promotion on Pinterest. It’s a rather strange coincidence that he’d think of you. “I... I’ve never tried a tea latte.”
“Doll, I’m gonna give you lots of things you never had, take you places you never been,” he flutters his fingers across your neck as he retracts his arm. He grabs the other cup and groans as he sits back, blowing over the plastic lid. “So tell me,” his arms presses against yours. He seems so big sitting so close, “where’ somewhere you always wanted to go?”
“Er, I don’t...” your eyes drift over as Merv drives lazily through your neighbourhood, “know. I never... thought about it.”
“Anything you always wanted to do? Skydiving? Wait, yeah, you don’t like being high up. Makes sense, being so close to the ground, huh?” He chuckles and leans into you playfully, “you an outdoorsy type? You like hiking?”
“Um, I don’t know, I think... I like walking in the park sometimes,” you hold the cup with both hands, letting the warmth flow into your cold veins. You can smell the blueberry and you instinctively take wife through the slot of the lid.
“Mm, don’t worry, we’ll figure it out, doll,” he assures you and sips again, swallowing thickly before he lets out a thigh. “I think you’ll like what I got planned, even if you don’t know what you want. I’ve always been good at figuring that out, you know?”
“Oh?”
He laughs again, “you’re so cute, doll.” He looks over at you, “how’s the latte? Did I do good?”
Your eyes nearly cross as you stare at the cup. You bring it up carefully and take a dainty sip. You almost moan at the creamy but sweet taste. You pull the lid away and dab your lips with the back of your hand, turning to give him a wide-eyed look.
“It’s delicious,” you smile.
He grins and tilts his head, “see, doll, you don’t even gotta say it. I know exactly what you need.”
You’re breathless. Something about his tone, his words, mingles and coils around your throat. It’s like one of those old Wattpad fantasies you devoured in your teen years, those escapist dreams of having everything taken care of and not having to think, and yet, it’s too real. You take another drink to keep busy.
“After our first stop, we’ll eat,” he says, “that okay? You’re not ravenous?”
His words make you flinch. You blink and shake your head, “I’m okay.”
“Sounds good, doll,” he relaxes and once more extends his arms over your shoulders, this time hugging you closer.
He turns his head and nuzzles you, making you squirm. You’re rigid, paralysed by the proximity. You’ve never been this close with anyone. He still feels like a stranger.
“Mmm, strawberries,” he growls, “I like that.”
You giggle and barely keep a hold of your cup. You really can’t understand it. You never had interest from anyone. You didn’t even really have friends in school. Sometimes, you even think Roxie hates you, and your mom, well, she loves you because you have to. You just can’t comprehend what he sees.
“Thanks...” you wisp.
“No, thank you, doll,” he drawls, “for making my morning brighter.”
🃏
You doubt Bucky does anything in half-measures. Merv pulls up to another upscale building and you can’t help but gape out at the white brick facade. Everything is so big and fancy and better than you. You’re so out of place in his world that you can’t but wait for the moment he decides to kick you out of it.
The white-haired driver gets out to open the door. As you step out, your loafer slips off your heel and your foot slides down the curb. You trip outward, bracing yourself for impact, but don’t hit the ground. A hand wraps around your arm and pulls you back onto the seat. You cringe, happy at least that Bucky can’t see your face as he clings to you.
“You okay, doll?” He asks, “you hurt yourself?”
“No, no,” you wriggle in his grasp, “I’m fine. It was just... stupid.”
“Not stupid, good thing I was here to catch you, huh?” He reluctantly releases you, a caress along the back of your arm, “now you be careful. You need me to get out and carry you--”
“No, no!” You grab the car and push yourself out, fixing your shoe as you get your bearings. “Really, I’m okay.”
He chuckles and follows. It he laughing at you? You turn to face him as he steps up on the curb. It’s easy when he’s sitting to forget how small you really are.
“All good, doll, I just can’t have you getting banged up,” he says as he gestures you across the wide sidewalk.
You peer back as Merv shuts the door and Bucky brings his hand to your lower back, just like that woman at the casino. His gentle touch sends a chill up your back despite the beaming heat from above.
“Promise, you’re gonna love this.”
He urges you on to the front doors. They are made of iron, twisted in the middle, and two long handles curlicue in the middle. He stops and presses the little silver button along the side, a buzz muffled within. You wait, fidgeting, and presses his palm firmly to your back. You still yourself and clutch your bag tighter.
The interior doors, dark walnut, open inward and a woman appears within with a particularly snobbish look. She’s tall with straight shoulders and a Chanel style suit. She unlocks the iron doors and opens the right one. She eyes Bucky past her hooked nose as she lifts it higher.
“Mr. Barnes,” she greets.
“Meredith,” he returns, “thanks for having me.”
“Only for you,” she assures as her eyes fall upon you, “you’ve brought...”
“Someone very special. A connoisseur like yourself,” he insists, curtailing whatever she thought to remark.
“Yes, certainly she would be,” the woman accepts with a sniff and steps back, “please, come in. Should I have Charlene make tea?”
“I don’t think we will require it. Doll?” He pauses as he confirms with you.
You shake your head, “no thank you.”
“Very well, follow me, then,” she spins and struts away.
Bucky nudges you inside first, following through the narrow door. As he comes up parallel to you, a shadow appears to close the doors behind him. The whole experience is eerie. What is going on?
You follow the woman, Meredith, up the wooden stairs with a rose-printed runner along the center of the steps. At the top, you smell the definitive scent of books. She directs you into a room, opening the door but standing back to let you through. Bucky nods and thanks her one last time.
“You know the rules, Barnes,” she warns.
“Been a while...” he mutters.
“You remember,” she rebukes.
He laughs and pulls the door shut as she retreats, her heels clicking through the wall until they taper off to nothing. A record player drones from the corner and the window lets in the yellow sunshine, adding to the illumination of glass-shaded lamps. You peer around, as curious as you are confused.
Bucky brushes by you, knuckles rubbing against your waist, and he approaches the antique table at the center. Several stacks of books sit neatly piled atop it. You approach sheepishly and read the spines. You recognise the titles though you’ve never read any of them. As you think, you realise that these are the same books you have on your reading app. How could he know?
Your mouth falls open as you keep your hands folded together. You don’t dare to touch anything. It all seems so nice and likely expensive. And with how Meredith spoke, you’re certain she wouldn’t appreciate you putting anything out of place.
“She’s a book collector. I came here a few years back to buy some first editions for my sister,” he picks up a book.
“How...” you bend to read further down a stack.
“A lot you can learn about a person online,” he flutters through the pages, “isn’t there?”
You look at him and blanch.
“I know you Googled me. Everyone does,” he snickers, “it’s fine. Comes with the territory. But you...” he snaps the book shut and comes around the table, holding it out to you, “all I found were some books and a few pictures of a cat.”
You take the book and stare at the cover. Those pictures were old. Kai died at the end of high school. You run your hand over the embossed title; Middlemarch. You remember adding it after binging and old British series.
“My cat. She’s gone now,” you shrug.
“Sorry to hear that, doll,” he says. “I might know someone who can cheer you up, though.”
“It’s... fine. She was a good cat,” you shrug.
“Hm, yeah, but a friend, all the same,” he says, “so, you want it?”
“What?” You peek at the book again.
“All of them? I can have them packed and sent to your house.”
“Huh?” Your eyes nearly bulge out of your skull, “my mom...”
“Ah, it’s fine, we can sneak em in,” he assures.
“No, no, I couldn’t... it’s too much. Very nice but... must be... a lot.”
“It is, doll. Meredith gave me a damn headache tryna get in here on short notice but I did it,” he leans a hand on the table and hooks one foot over the other. “You gotta at least pick one thing to walk out of here with.”
“Oh, I... I wasn’t meaning... I didn’t mean to be ungrateful,” you rub your thumbs along the edges of the book, “sorry.”
“It’s fine. I know you’re not, doll. You’re... adjusting. I’m doing my best not to scare ya away but you gotta bite the carrot a little here,” he says, “so grab a few and we’ll go have some breakfast.”
“I...” you look between him and the table. You have no doubt that he went to a lot of effort for this. For you. You can’t just throw it back in his face. “Thank you, it’s...” you turn to face the table and lean in to see more of the books. You let yourself smile, “it’s wonderful. No one’s ever... except mom...”
“Get used to it, doll,” he steps closer, his hand once more on your back, “with a smile like that, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing it.”

Lyney, Scaramouche, and Furina (separately) when all the sudden reader (female) loses her appetite for a while. Like it was normal and then it was gone and after a few months it didn’t come back. Reader struggles a lot with finishing dinners (her only meal of the day) but she doesn’t want to not finish because it’s a waste. Sometimes she feels like throwing up after a few bites though and she ends up barely eating. Thank you
Totally not based on real life btw—
Tumblr media
Lyney notices the difference immediately but he wouldn't confront you about it. He tries to get you to eat with him, making sure never to point out the amount that you eat because he doesn't want you to get too far into your own head and feel worse about not being able to eat.
He'll try to get you to eat more by increasing the amount of snacks that are around at any point in time - all non perishable stuff so you don't feel pressured to eat them by a deadline. He also makes dinners with smaller portions for you, happily giving you more if you finish.
He worries about you a lot and tries his best to combat your symptoms without being too overt about it. If you complain about nausea then he gets you medicine to help settle your stomach and continues to eat meals with you for as long as you need him to.
Tumblr media
Scaramouche takes not of it right away with a raised brow. You can tell that he can tell that you're not eating nearly enough and begin to try and explain yourself when he just scoffs and tells you to eat more.
His way of helping is. A little counterproductive. He thinks that if you just think it then you can do it but when he sees that it's making you physically ill he starts to feel bad. It's only then that it hits him that this is less of a you refusing to eat and something that he doesn't really understand.
You'll have to tell him what you need from him to help you get better. Once you do tell him there will still be some growing pains what with him still not really understanding the problem but he's trying at least.
Tumblr media
Fruina's immediate response is to try and see if she can figure out what's wrong with you to get you to eat. She doesn't want to see you get too fatigued or just generally unhappy because your body is hungry. It hurts her far too much to see you like that.
She's your biggest cheerleader in trying to help you find the right portions to eat to see if your stomach can handle it, or remembering what time of day seems to be the best for your stomach to handle food so you can eat a little bit more.
She worries about you a lot as well, just wanting to see you get better and eat more regularly. She might offer to do more things in the day with you, see if being more active helps stimulate your appetite better. It's a nice way to both spend time with her and look out for your health.

🎧A Guide to the TGCF Audio Drama🎭
With the release of the new season of the fabulous TGCF audio drama, I wanted to make an updated guide on how to make an account, purchase, and listen (with English subs) to it! Hopefully, this will help more people enjoy it and join in on the fun!
As a quick reminder, the audio drama is based on the revised version of the novel! It's a very faithful adaptation, but if you're a new fan, that might throw you for a loop! If you need an overview of the different versions of TGCF, check out this post first!
Part One: Making an Account & Purchasing
The process is a lot easier than you may expect! The site where the audio drama is hosted is "missevan.com," also known as "MaoerFM." They are one and the same!
Check out these infographics to create an account and buy the audio drama. (Due to tumblr compression, they may be difficult to read. If this is the case, please view these images in full-screen and preferably on a web browser for best quality!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
General Info:
It costs 319 diamonds for the first season, and 359 diamonds for the second season of the TGCF audio drama. This was less than $5 USD, for each season. Future seasons will likely be similarly priced.
Episodes typically release weekly. Mini-episodes/bonus content releases intermittently, and often continues after the main season "ends."
This guide will work for any other audio dramas you want to purchase and support (such as MDZS)! They obviously have different costs, but the process of buying is pretty much the same.
Account/Registration Info:
If you do not see your country/region code listed when making an account, it is unfortunately unavailable there. I do not know any workarounds at the moment, apart from asking a friend/relative in a different country to help you out! If anyone does know other options, please let me know!
Step One of the guide is technically optional, as logging in on the app for the first time will automatically create a new account, if there’s not already one associated with your mobile phone number. I recommend doing that step anyway, as it will ensure that you have a password linked to your account. Several people in the past have reported that they sometimes cannot receive the verification code to log in. (Especially from South America and SEA for some reason.) Having a password bypasses this, if it happens to you.
Unfortunately, it seems that you MUST register with a mobile number to begin with.
Otherwise, you can use an existing Bilibili/QQ/WeChat/Weibo account if you have it. They all require a number for registration too, as far as I know, so you may run into the same problem. They may still be worth trying if you have no other options! Once again, if anyone is aware of other workarounds, do let me know.
Additionally, it’s possible to link your account to an email AFTER you register with a mobile number. (There’s no escaping that, from what I can tell.) You can then use that to log in.
It seems useful to have your email and a password associated with your account, especially in case your country code gets nixed from availability -- which has been known to happen without warning in the past.
The mobile browser seems to prefer you log in with a number/email and a password, rather than a verification code.
LINKING AN E-MAIL TO YOUR ACCOUNT (Optional)
This must be done via web browser, or with your mobile browser set to desktop mode. It’s VERY easy if you use a browser with an auto-translate feature like Google Chrome:
(These images are the MTL translated versions!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately yes, you will need to receive a verification code via mobile number to enable this. The second verification code gets sent to your email, though! (Try not to lose your password, because I'm pretty sure you'll still have to use your phone to verify and change it.) Don't forget to check your spam folder if you don't see it. It will be from "猫耳FM."
Once again, this is optional! I just wanted to include it as an extra avenue for people who may struggle with the verification codes, as they can be finicky. And it happened to me while I was making this section, so I knew I had to....
Part Two: How to Enable English Subtitles
First things first: there are no official English subs for the TGCF Audio Drama. Though I'm fairly sure this applies to all dramas on MaoerFM.
However, there are Chinese (Simplified) subs for each episode.
OPTION ONE: MTL
The main method that non-Chinese speakers have been using to understand the Audio Drama is via MTL (machine translation) on those subs! Browsers like Google Chrome not only have auto-translate, but it works in real time as you watch/listen to the episode.
Make sure that it's turned on and that you've selected English -- or your preferred output language!
Tumblr media
Be aware there are TWO types of subtitles on MaoerFM. There are the official subs, and the temporary subs.
At the bottom of the audio player, there is a button labelled "字幕," which is circled in purple in the image below. If it is there, it means that episode has official subs available, and you can toggle them on/off. Meanwhile, the "弹" that the green arrow is pointing to is known as the "barrage." That's the scrolling text that you will see filling the screen. It's other fans screaming and crying in chat. You can turn it off if it feels overwhelming!
Tumblr media
New episodes may take anywhere from a few hours to a day or two to be officially subtitled. (The bonus episodes don't have official subs for whatever reason.) In the meantime, there will be subtitlers working on adding temporary subs! I'd advise waiting a little while before listening to a new episode so they have more time to work, and you'll have better coverage!
While official subs are entirely separate, the temporary subs are part of the barrage. So you will have to keep the barrage turned on. (Notice how there is no "字幕" button next to it yet!) Unlike the rest of the barrage, the subs will be stationary, color-coded, and at the very bottom of the window -- so they're easy to differentiate.
Tumblr media
However, since the barrage can be a lot if you aren't used to it, there is a way around it.
Hit the settings menu (blue circle) and block the scrolling comments. You can also turn off the top ones, but just make sure not to turn off the bottom ones -- because those are the subs!
Tumblr media
DO NOTE that this all works best on desktop! If everything's gone correctly, you should have something like these:
Right -- regular view, temporary subs Left -- full-screen, official subs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's possible to get this to work on mobile if you enable desktop mode in your Chrome app. You will probably need to refresh a few times after that, or open the page in a new tab to have it work properly. Then it's the same steps as above!
You should have something like these:
Right -- landscape mode Left -- portrait mode
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scaling on mobile can be troublesome, and I have noticed that the auto-translate is slower than on desktop. It seems to take an extra second or two to work on each line -- whereas on desktop it's pretty instant -- and that can get annoying, especially in fast-paced scenes.
Additional Info:
This does not work for the mobile app! It is for the website ONLY!
If the translation stops working, refreshing usually fixes it.
There are potentially other options to using Chrome. Any browser that has an auto-translate will work, assuming it's as quick as Chrome's. If anyone has tried other browsers and seen success, please leave a reply!
OPTION TWO: FANSUBS
TreasureChestSubs here on tumblr have been doing high-quality fansubs for several audio dramas, including TGCF as of recently! However, at the time of making this guide, their TGCF translations currently only cover the first few episodes of season one. You will need to request an invite to their Discord server via the form in their posts. Please do check them out if you're interested.
I don't personally know of any other fansubbers who are actively working on the audio drama right now. But I do want to mention that Xyra_Rei on twitter has a Discord server where they share some translated snippets from various episodes. There are other great resources by fellow fans, too. Links and more info about the server can be found in the pinned post on their profile!
Part Three: Enjoy!!!
I hope this updated guide helps more people experience the wonder that is the TGCF audio drama (or really, any audio drama)! I cannot overstate how good it is in every aspect, and I think every TGCF fan deserves to be able to hear it for themselves! 💖

Say Don’t Go | 911 7x10 spec
Based on the stills and my brain not shutting up
“I hate you!”
Christopher’s voice resonates through the hallway until his door slamming cuts it off. Eddie flinches and Buck’s heart breaks.
“Chris-“
Eddie moves half a step forward and Buck stops him by the shoulder before he can go after his son. It’s not going to help. If he knows anything about angry teenagers (having been one particularly angry himself) is that Chris needs a moment away from his dad.
The problem are those big brown eyes. Because when Eddie looks back at him, so lost and heartbroken and desperate, Buck knows he has to do something. Because this is wrong, it’s just wrong, and Buck knows he cannot fix everything for the people he loves but he cannot —will not— stop trying no matter how impossible it feels.
“Let- let me try and talk to him,” Buck asks.
“What?”
Helena and Ramon both turn to him with equal disbelief, but Buck doesn’t even bother looking at them. They’ve been so ready to take this opportunity to rip Chris away from Eddie. And, sure, they are worried and Eddie should’ve handled this a lot better, but they aren’t even giving him the chance. So he doesn’t look at them, he keeps his eyes on Eddie who gives him the smallest, pleading, nod.
That’s all Buck needs. With one final squeeze, he lets go of Eddie and moves across the living room with long strides before the Diaz’s can stop him.
Who does he think he is? What gives him the right to intervene? How dare he even be here? Whatever they are thinking, comes second to Chris and Eddie.
Buck knocks gently on the door.
“Go away!”
“H-hey, buddy, it’s me. Can I come in?”
There’s a long terrifying pause that nearly shatters what’s left of Buck’s heart before the reluctant “okay.”
With a relieved sigh, he pushes in.
Christopher is sitting on the edge of his bed, a packed backpack by his side. For a second, Buck thinks of another day, years ago, when he found him just like this. Back then, Buck’s biggest fear was that Eddie’s heart would stop. Today, he’s terrified it will break beyond repair.
“Hey, Chris.”
“Hey, Buck,” he says, looking down at his hands.
Awkwardly, Buck makes his way to the bed and sits on the edge next to the boy. He’s so big now, older and taller, but he can still see the same child that had to comfort him after the shooting.
“Chris, are you sure about this? Leaving your dad, even if it’s just for a while… that’s not going to fix things between you.”
“I don’t want to fix them,” Chris snaps, sharply. “He lied to me! He lied to Marisol, to you, he lied to everyone!”
And that’s not something Buck can argue.
“Yeah, he- he screwed up, Chris, but you need to understand.”
“I understand! Why would he that! He’s- he always told me to tell the truth and to be good but he was a liar.”
“Hey, hey, that’s- that’s not fair. One mistake doesn’t make him a liar. He just- listen, Chris, you know your dad loves you more than anything in the whole world, right?”
He’s met with silence.
“Right?”
Chris gives a noncommittal shrug.
“Right,” Buck nods. “Because he does. And he would never, ever, do anything to hurt you.”
“But he did! It hurt! Seeing her and thinking it was her… it hurt, Buck.”
“I know, buddy… I do. I just- I meant, he would never hurt you on purpose.”
“He had to know it would hurt.”
“He did. Which is why he lied…”
Christopher huffs and Buck has the horrible feeling he’s not being as helpful as he hoped. What was he thinking? Just because he loves Chris with his whole heart it doesn’t mean he knows the first thing about being a parent. He only knows what Eddie taught him.
The memory hits home like a wave. Sunlight, a warm hand on his shoulder, his heart twisting from guilt to relief and to something bigger he couldn’t name.
“You know, your dad isn’t perfect.”
“No, he isn’t,” Chris scoffs.
“He isn’t perfect,” Buck repeats, tone pleading Chris to let him finish, “and he knows it. He told me once himself, that he’s failed many times as your dad. But he also said that he loves you enough to never give up, to never stop trying to be better… for you.”
Chris is quiet, but by the way his shoulders hunch and his head tilts, Buck thinks he might be getting to him. So he pushes on.
“And- and the thing is, Christopher, your dad is very hurt right now. It’s- it’s nothing like the time he was shot… it’s something… deeper, older. Because, you see, when Shannon- when your mom died, it really hurt your dad. He loved her so much… and I don’t think he ever healed from it, not really. I think that’s why he did all this. Because he’s in pain…”
Christopher peers at Buck from under his curly fringe, reluctantly making eye contact.
“That doesn’t make it okay.”
“No, it doesn’t. But- but I think your dad really needs us right now. He- he needs you,” he corrects quickly. “This time, I think your dad needs you not to give up on him.”
“But I’m still mad.”
“And- and that’s okay. You can be mad. You get to be angry or sad or confused, I just- I just hope you can fight for your dad, like he does for you. Because, Chris, if he loses you… I think the pain will be too much this time.”
Chris is quiet. And Buck is exhausted.
“I don’t wanna make you feel responsible for him, Christopher. I promise, whatever you choose, I’ll have his back and make sure he is okay. I just- I think he needs both of us right now.”
“Why are you defending him? Aren’t you mad too? He lied to you too.”
“I- yeah, he did. But he’s my best friend, and I love him. I’m not quitting on him, he’s never given up on me.”
“Hmmm.”
It takes a couple minutes before Chris decides to get back up. Buck stays only because he isn’t asked to leave and, only when he sees the boy step outside does he dare follow cautiously.
In the living room, whatever Eddie was talking in hushed tones with his parents dies down immediately. He only has eyes for his son as he approaches.
“Mijo-“
“You have to promise that it won’t happen again,” Christopher demands, voice shaky. “You need to try to do better and you have to promise that you won’t lie to me again.”
Eddie walks towards his son like he is in a dream, eyes tearful. Buck can see him trembling even from afar, where he’s found a corner to tuck himself into and disappear.
“Christopher,” Eddie says, kneeling before his son and gently holding him, “I swear- te lo juro por mi vida. I will do better. I will- I will be better for both of us. I will spend every day trying to be a better father for you.”
“Okay,” Chris says.
“Okay?”
“I’m staying.”
Eddie leans forward to hug his son, but is met with a gentle push back.
“I’m still mad at you, dad.”
“Yeah, yeah, of course. Of course,” Eddie mumbles, but the relief in his voice is still palpable.
Eddie looks past Chris’s shoulder and his eyes find Buck. The look in his face… Buck knows Eddie like the back of his hand but he cannot quite place what it is. Thankfulness and relief and hope… but there’s something else behind it that makes Buck’s heart twist painfully.
So Buck looks away, tries to find something —anything— else to focus on and lands on the Diaz’s faces. Eddie’s parents look at him with… well, it isn’t quite anger, but there’s a confusion there and a bewilderment that somehow makes Buck even more uncomfortable. He ducks his head and beelines for the kitchen. He should let them be alone…
“Buck!” Eddie is rushing after him before he can get to the door.
When he turns around, he finds Eddie standing there, shaking and shocked. Buck waits, but Eddie doesn’t seem to have any more idea than he does about what he planned to say next.
“Sorry, I- I should probably go.”
Eddie takes a step forward, with that look still on his face.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” Buck goes on. “Just- just be with your son tonight.”
“You sure? You could stay.” Eddie steps closer.
“No, it’s- it’s okay. I wouldn’t want to intrude, with your family-“
“Buck-“
“And Tommy is waiting at my place, so…”
Eddie stops. He blinks.
“Right, yeah. Of course. Just- I- Thank you.”
Buck smiles, even if the air between them still feels charged.
“I have your back, Eddie. Always.”
And before anything else can get his head spinning he steps out the back door. Only once outside does he stop and finally breathe. That was… that felt like… but it cannot be. It wasn’t. Even if Eddie looked like he wanted to-
No, of course not. Better get going, before his heart can manage to fool itself once again.

Laddies we got an Au
Tumblr media
Long post below the cut and some disturbing imagery, so be advised.
So it takes place after Pearl sunk Abalone and his fleeting. This time however her sisters actually stuck around to check on her after everything and actually managed to help her open up…some how.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though her heart wasn’t stained black she will never be the same.
Tumblr media
However she was able to build up the strength to talk to Lord Oyster again. She never fully forgave him for giving away her pearl, but he was there after the attacks to take care of the pirates who had somehow managed to avoid dying to take them to justice. This showed the mermaids that some cookies could be trusted. Because of this Pearl became a guardian for The House of Oyster and oh boy did that do wonders for their reputation!
Tumblr media
With her making peace with all her pain she didn’t fully become Black Pearl and is kinda grey(-ish purple) I need to work on her design a bit more obviously, but she followed a lot closer to Crimson and takes her job as a protector seriously enough. Some may wonder if she enjoys a good fight more than defending her friends.
Also her sister and Frilled Jellyfish have her tokens to try and brighten her up some.
Tumblr media
Through all this Lord Oyster swore he would redeem himself to his moon (she asked him not to call her that anymore lol) So he dedicated a good chunk of resources to trying to locate her pearl! This mission was passed down through the generations until finally…
Tumblr media
Oyster Cookie had finally gotten a big lead and was able to send one of the best captains and his crew out to try and recover it.
Unfortunately they ran into a slight problem.
The sea the pearl was said to be found in was rough and could capsize a ship twice their size. Caviar wanted to go alone, but with a crew as stubborn as he they braved it together as one! (Candy Diver died in a different accident and Caviar still managed to find them and bring them aboard because he’s just that good at sniffing out crew mates.)
Tumblr media
Alas it wasn’t just a storm.
It was a trap.
A band of pirates forged a letter hoping Oyster herself would show up so they could get a nice tidy ransom, but when a harder than nails crew showed up in their place they were far from pleased.
The Salty Shark crew hold their ground well, but being outnumbered four to one never seems to end in your favour.
Tumblr media
Caviar was the last to go down and was thrown overboard to his watery grave like the rest of his crew. After The Silent’s crew was demolished completely the pirates set out to “commandeer” her, but immediately things started to go wrong for them. Things went so wrong that at least two were killed on their scramble to get off the boat while many more met their soggy fates as they threw themselves overboard in preference to whatever was on their with them.
Tumblr media
Guess what movie franchise this is based on :D
As the legend says the captain pulled himself up out of the deep that night and sails his waters of the Duskgloom searching for his crew to bring them safely aboard and finally leave that damned place. However the captain’s kindness runs short with strangers who cross his path, especially those who fly the skull and crossbones.
The Silent is still under his full command and all orders are carried out will full efficiency.
Tumblr media
Now Oyster wanted the return of her pearl to be a surprise with a big celebration after, but when the captain never returned and those she sent to look for him disappeared she had few other choices than to send her most capable guard.

My thoughts about the finale's timeline based on the stills.
Tumblr media
We will start with the Buck & Tommy date. (Whether there will be scenes about Bobby (and Athena) before that, just to hurt us more, I don't know.) It looks like night time, and the fire happened at night. A call will interrupt their date. (Who will call Buck? The hospital? Is he Bobby's emergency contact after Athena? Will he call the others? So many burning questions.)
They all rush to the hospital. Hence the same clothes. I would love if Tommy would be there with Buck, but he's not in any of these photos or the promo. Although a girl can dream...
Bobby has to be in the hospital for days. So the team comes and goes, because Athena investigates, and she had to be at the hospital for some time, while the doctors made sure she's okay.
Tumblr media
So I think while they are there (next day / morning maybe) Hen gets a call and I don't even know what the hell happens with them, but Mara deserves a great family so they better fight for her and win. So go Henren! We support you! We love you! ❤️ (And so does Chim. Hopefully, he and Maddie could help them.)
Tumblr media
I suppose the same happens with Eddie. They are wearing the same clothes, but it's daytime, so probably they spent the night at the hospital and the next day after the fire, Eddie gets a call. Go home, where he speaks with Buck, his parents. I don't know what will happen but I know it will be messy and we have all the feels, all the drama and heartbreak.
Tumblr media
I reckon in this scene he tells Buck about what happened with Kim and Christopher and Marisol, then he will talk with his parents (When will they arrive? Are they in the other room, or with Chris or not there yet?)
Tumblr media
Will Buck be present and just went out when the phone rung or was he in the other room during this talk? Will he talk to Eddie's parents at all, or he's just there as moral support. I think they get a call about Bobby. So they go to the hospital again (where all this time, there was always somebody to keep Bobby company, and Bobby will be fine, everyone will be fine and happy and the problems magically go away. 🤡)
Tumblr media
I think this will be the last scene, a couple days later (different clothes), where Chris goes with his grandparents, while he forgives Eddie and Eddie goes to therapy and gets better. 😭
Cue the tears, the tissue and a very long wait till season 8. (I hope they will start at the end of September. 🤞)
PS. I like that they got renewed sooner, but it also means cliffhangers. They know they don't need to close every story line and frankly they can't do it to all 3 major character arcs in 44 minutes.

would it physically fucking ail you to treat women well in your au? You’ve literally swapped all the female leaders with some background male characters. Literally ALL of the girls characters except maybe poppy (and that’s a stretch) have stories revolve around a man. Anytime you mention viva it’s always as an extension of clay. You took her leader role away and gave her nothing. I get you like brozone and shit, but you didn’t have to make every single female leader in trolls not a leader. Barb was an independent character that made her own decisions based own her own thoughts and beliefs, and you delegated her to a supporting role for riff. The same goes for delta! It’s not like there wasn’t other female characters to swap them with. Clampers, Carol, Val, and Holly are right there! Does the idea of a woman having her own complex internal life scare you? Is that why you’ve reduced all of them to sidekick status? I don’t know but I’m blocking you after this. What the hell
hey first off, what the actual fuck is your problem.
brotherhood started as a goddamn PERSONALITY SWAP AU. we didn't swap characters with anyone from the shows.
secondly; you DO realize that we aren't portraying them as side kicks right? or is your media literacy that fucking low?
barb isn't a support to riff. of you actually paid attention and asked actual questions you can see that she's not happy about anything riff is doing. she's not a support. she is the prime example as to why what riff is doing? ISNT A FUCKING GOOD THING. HE ISNT LISTENING TO ANYONE AND IT TAKES BARB GETTING HURT AND HER SCREAMING AT HIM FOR HIM TO REALIZE WHAT HE WAS DOING IS WRONG.
delta swapping with pete was the idea of a friend; and even then, she's not a fucking support. we talk about delta more than pete and she actively helps the trio out.
viva is STILL A FUCKING LEADER. NOWHERE DID WE SAY HER ROLE WAS REMOVED; HER AND CLAY LEAD TOGETHER.
i am so sick and tired of you people on your high horses trying to attack me because you can't get the balls to sit down and either ask questions OR be patient for the google doc that i have spent 5 FUCKING MONTHS WORKING ON.
quit making baseless assumptions because you don't know how to read.
i don't care if you block me. if you have the gall to be disrespectful and downright RUDE on anon like a damn coward then i don't want you around anyway. good riddance.
ket can keep posting the art they have on tumblr but im done. you want brotherhood stuff? go to them. im sick and tired of assholes like you. stfu and get a life

It's a cold day, or so the biological reasponse of the woman you're bound to seems to indicate. Cold, but not cold enough for the heaters. These life forms confuse you. That is not the problem, though. The problem is that your bond-mate, Doctor Kal'tsit is scheduled for an intensive operation.
Not on her, mind. You would never let her come to harm, and her meticulous self-care regime leaves no room for anything to cause such a need. She would say that her schedule does not permit illness, but you know just as well as she does that it's not her schedule that keeps her in pristine health. No, instead, she is to take up her station in the only area of the landship that you lack clearance for-- the operating theatre.
Armed guards are posted outside, denying you entrance. They aren't there to keep you out, but as your mandibles clack together to plead to return to her side, to take their posts, they shiver and shake. You can do their jobs so much more efficiently and so much less intrusively. You can withdraw into your crystalline prism and be out of the way until you're needed, but alas, the two guards stand between you and your rightful place. Ambient moisture levels rise almost imperceptibly when you push air through the jagged oriface that passes for a mouth in their eyes. Did they think you were a threat? You want to protect her. To guard her. To know she is safe.
She isn't pleased when she emerges from the room, gloved hands covered in viscera. She knows how happy you are to see her, she has to! Why is she angry? "Mon3tr, stop hassling the guards." You're not hassling them! You pout in a way that only she can recognize. The guards tense up, preparing to ready their pathetic weapons. "The surgical theatre is a sterile environment, free of contaminants by necessity. Your very nature would put the patient at risk. Go for a walk or something."
Walk? You don't have legs, at best, you could- "Or float. Or whatever. Patrol the halls if you need to. Just stop harassing the guards. They're enough." She can't read your thoughts. Or quite understand your words, for that matter. Nevertheless, her ability to read your body language continues to please you. At least someone can understand. A resigned chitter, rocks grinding against rocks, seems to only further unsettle the two life forms assigned to protect her for today. It's not for them, though. The sole woman who understands gives a sigh and waves you off as she retreats to the only place you can't reach her. "I'll be out in a few hours, anyway. Just keep yourself busy."
It wasn't a few hours.
It was twenty.
Twenty hours of long, grueling, high-precision work. You can feel her heart rate escalate over time as she ingests her plant-based ichor. She says it helps, but it only ever makes her more irritated. You grumble your deep, earthy growl as a ceramic cup reaches her lips. "Don't lecture me. The paperwork for a failed operation is going to keep me up another hour or two, I need this." It's not going to be two, it will be six. Her entire body is attempting to shut down into a rest cycle to preserve function, and still, she resists her biological needs. Admirable, you think, even if it's foolish.
Your job is to protect Doctor Kal'tsit from all threats. The largest threat to her at this moment is, undoubtedly, herself. Calculations run in your head. The black ichor in her cup is causing harm, and must be disposed of. The most efficient way to render it inert would be the destruction of its vessel, the ceramic that contains it. As you raise your razor-sharp claw, a command comes at once; not from her words, but from her eyes. You are an immortal weapon comprised of a substance that is neigh indestructible by any force known by these biological life forms. For the first time in your very, very long existence, you know fear. Doctor Kal'tsit may not possess the means to destroy you, but in one glance you know that she will do far far worse if you act to preserve her.
You do not. Mess. With Kal'tsit's coffee.

Revelations
Tumblr media
Summary: Needing a little help Rex tracks down his favourite civilian mechanic from the war.
Pairing: Rex x fem!reader
Word Count: 4,129
*********************
Rex had once believed that the end of the war would mean an end to the fighting, an end to losing his brothers, and an end to the never-ending number of problems he had to deal with on a daily basis. How wrong he had been. Sometimes, when he lay awake at night, staring up at the ceiling he couldn’t quite believe how things had ended. His heart ached when he thought about it too much, the faces of all of his brothers flashing across his mind. Visions of the smoke from the Venator as it lay crumbled against the earth haunted him in his dreams. Jesse, Kix, Cody, General's Skywalker and Kenobi, all gone. Lost to the Empire. But worst of all were the thoughts of how meaningless his life had actually been. He hadn’t been a soldier, he'd simply been a pawn in someone else's game. That was what kept him up most at night. And it was that thought that continued to drive him to help his brothers, to fight back against The Empire in any way that he could.
It was what currently had him stalking through one of the mid-levels of Coruscant as the sun began to dip into the evening. It wasn’t as risky as being up on one of the upper levels where the Coruscant Guard routinely patrolled but still close enough to the surface to put him on edge. But desperate times called for desperate measures.
He kept his head down as he went, he had left his armour back at base so he knew most people wouldn’t give him a second look but months of hiding had made him extra cautious. He slowed as his destination came into view, his head swivelled a few times, checking to make sure he wasn’t being tailed before he headed over to the garage across the street. It was a small garage but well kept, the lights inside still shone brightly out into the street as he neared the door. He knew it would likely be closing shortly so he would have to make this quick.
A bell chimed as he stepped through the door, a quick scan of the shop revealed the front was empty at first but he heard movement in the back almost instantly.
Rex released a breath he didn’t even realize he had been holding as your figure stepped out of the back and behind the counter. His heart was suddenly beating in his chest wildly at the sight of you. There had been very few days since the end of the war where he hadn’t thought about you, hadn’t worried about what might have happened to you. He had thought he would never see you again but now that he was every confusing feeling he had harboured for you for years was slamming back into him.
“Hey there, how can I…” You started before you slammed to a halt, your entire body freezing and your eyes widening as you took in the sight of him.
“Hi,” He greeted sheepishly, waving at you when the feeling of needing to do something with his hands overwhelmed him.
“Rex…” Your voice was barely above a whisper as you stared at him.
Before he could even think of what to say next you had launched yourself over the counter in a blur of movement, throwing yourself into him and crushing him a hug.
He chuckled nervously as his hands wrapped around you instinctively. He tried his best to ignore the heat that was suddenly pooling in him at the feeling of your body being so tightly pressed up against him. He’d always had armour on to protect him in the past anytime this had happened.
You pulled away from him after a moment but your hands stayed gripping his biceps, as though you were worried he was about to slip away again. Your face was paler than normal as you looked up at him with wide eyes, “I heard that you went down with the ship, they said you were dead. I-I thought you were dead, Rex.”
He chuckled darkly as he reached up to rub at the back of his neck nervously, “Well, only one of those things is true, clearly.”
His words seemed to break the tension in the room and you chuckled softly, a grin finally splitting your face as you let your hands fall away from him. He found himself mourning the loss of your touch but he tried his best to push that thought aside. He was here on a mission after all, and not one of a personal nature.
“Gosh, I can’t believe you’re really here,” You said with a breathy laugh, “I missed you.”
Your admission did something funny to his insides but again he tried his best to ignore the feeling, “It’s harder to get rid of me than one might expect.”
You laughed, “Clearly, but I’m glad for it.”
The two of you simply stared at one another for a long moment. Rex could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears as he looked at you. You didn't look any different than the last time he had seen you, you were still so kriffing beautiful. He watched as your brow furrowed slightly as your own eyes finished their appraisal of him.
“What are you doing here Rex?” You asked, “You - you don’t look like you’re with The Empire,” You said the second part hesitantly, as though you were afraid to hear his answer.
“I’m not, I’ve uh - defected,” He answered, for lack of a better term. The fact that he was listed as KIA sort of negates the term but it’s close enough to the truth, “Are you still…” he started though he was somewhat unsure of how to ask the question.
You had once been, in his opinion, the finest civilian mechanic the GAR had under contract. Rex had met you only days after the first battle of Geonosis, back when you had both still been shiny. He had taken an instant liking to your quick wit and easygoing nature, plus no one could fix a ship as efficiently as you could. The two of you had remained friends throughout the war. You had often been stationed on Coruscant at the main base but there had been many occasions when you had accompanied the 501st on their missions. Those times had been his favourite and if he had made extra trips to the flight deck during those missions it had been completely coincidental, or so he told himself.
You shook your head, “No, after everything that happened, the Jedi, the clones, being told that you had been killed…” You trailed off momentarily, biting your lip before you looked back up at him, “I saw what was happening and it became pretty clear pretty quickly that it was not something I wanted to be a part of any longer. My dad was ecstatic to have me back in the garage though.”
The two of you were silent for another long moment, simply looking at one another. Rex hadn’t thought it would be possible but his respect for you only grew at the knowledge that you had left The Empire, seeing it for what it truly was.
“Do you know what happened to the others?” You asked hesitantly after a moment, “Jesse? Kix? Echo? Cody?” The list could have gone on and on, you had been friends with many of the boys.
His heart wrenched at the thought of his brothers, he didn’t know if he had it in him to tell you the truth. Jesse who had died trying to kill him and Ahsoka, his actions not his own. Kix, who had vanished only weeks before the end of the war never to be seen again. Cody, who was still with The Empire or worse. He settled on simply shaking his head instead, the answer was too complex and he knew you would get his meaning.
Overwhelming sadness flashed in your eyes and he instantly hated the fact that he had been the one to put it there. He tracked your movements as you reached out to rest a hand on his arm comfortingly, “I’m so sorry, Rex.”
Rex simply shook his head, he had quickly learned that there really were no words to convey his feelings about all that he had lost.
Sensing his discomfort you quickly changed course, which he was very appreciative of, “So, what are you up to now then?”
“Uh…” He faltered. He trusted you, he did, he always had. But it wasn’t just his life that would be in danger if word were to get out what he was up to. Not only that, but he couldn’t bear the thought of putting you in danger by roping you into things more than his being here already had. He cursed himself internally for having not come up with a better answer to this inevitable question.
Your eyebrow raised but instead of suspicion there was only amusement dancing in your eyes, “Let me guess, it’s classified?”
He felt his face flush slightly but he was relieved by your response, “Sorry, it’s not just me who would be at risk if something were to happen.”
“Say less, Captain,” You replied with a laugh, patting his arm reassuringly, “But what brings you to me?”
“I’m looking for a specific part for a ship. I was hoping you might be able to help me out,” Rex replied. The Remora had taken a direct hit on their last mission. Echo had done his best to try and repair it but a part of the stabilization system had been beyond his ability to fix and without it they were effectively grounded. The Martez sisters had done their best to find the part but hadn’t yet had any luck and Rex was beginning to grow desperate. The longer they were grounded the fewer brothers they were likely to save. Echo had suggested simply stealing a new ship but Rex hadn’t wanted to draw that much attention to them. At least not until they had no other option.
“Sure thing,” You replied happily before you turned and headed back towards the counter, “What are you looking for?”
He followed after you as you slipped behind the counter. You disappeared momentarily as you bent down behind the counter before you re-emerged with your data pad in hand. He gave you the specifics of the part, his fingers drumming anxiously against the countertop as he watched you scroll on your data pad.
“I don’t have anything in stock right now,” You replied with a soft frown, “But I should be able to get it with no problem. It might just take a few days to have it shipped from a warehouse.”
This was exactly why you were his favourite, “Really? That’s great. What will I owe you?” Thanks to Senator Chuchi's support paying for the part wasn’t an issue.
You shook your head before giving him a cheeky grin, “Don’t worry about it Rex, you get the friends and family discount.”
“I can’t…” He protested but was cut short.
“Ah ah,” You said, waving your hand at him dismissively, “None of that. Besides, a dead man’s credits won’t really do me any good,” You teased as you set your data pad aside and leaned your elbows on the counter, propping your chin up on your hands as you looked up at him.
He wanted to protest further but he had learned years ago that arguing with you once your mind was set got him absolutely nowhere, “Thank you,” He said sincerely. You really were his favourite.
You smiled brightly at him, “No problem Rex. How should I get ahold of you once the part comes in?”
He reached out to grab a stylus and piece of flimsy from off the counter, “Here’s my private comm channel, just give me a call and I’ll come and grab it,” He paused momentarily, considering, “This is Echo’s. If you can’t get ahold of me, try him,” With his line of work he never really knew which day could end up being his last. He knew that if something were to happen to him his brother would continue on with their mission without a doubt.
“Echo’s with you?” You asked, perking up as you took the flimsy from him. The last time you had seen Echo he had still been with The Bad Batch.
He nodded, “It’s a long story.”
You laughed, “Classified?”
Rex chuckled softly, “No, just long.”
“Well, maybe you can tell it to me when I get that part in,” You replied with another soft smile that made his face flush.
He simply nodded, trying his best to ignore the heat that was once again pooling in his stomach at the mere sight of you, “I think I can manage that.”
“Good, I’ll see you later then Captain,” And before he even fully knew what was happening you had leaned over the counter, stretching up onto the tips of your toes to plant a swift kiss on his cheek.
“I’ll uh, yah, later. I’ll be seeing you, then. Later.” He stammered as absolute fire burned in his face. He could still feel the weight of our lips against his cheek as he stepped away from the counter. Your eyes were sparkling with amusement as you watched him make his hasty retreat which only made the feelings churning inside him even worse. He spun around and marched towards the door, determined to get out before he did something else embarrassing.
“Rex,” You called after him just as he reached the threshold, causing him to pause and spin back in your direction, “I’m really glad to see you. I’m very happy you’re not dead.”
He couldn’t manage more than a nod, his brain apparently having left him completely. With a final wave, he stepped out into the cool night air of Coruscant, breath filling his lungs once more as he made his way back towards base. You might be his favourite, but he wasn’t entirely convinced that you weren’t going to be the death of him.
*******
Just as they had during the war, the days blurred together for Rex. There was always something that needed doing, intel to collect, supply runs, people to meet. His to-do list was endless. He let out a deep sigh, his attention still focused on his data pad as he walked back into the Martez sister's garage, their temporary base. He had just finished meeting with Senator Chuchi and while their meetings always went well, the woman was unwaveringly kind and supportive, he was tired. He wanted nothing more than to collapse on his makeshift bunk in the back and stay there for the rest of the day. But as always, duty called, and he would answer.
He lifted a hand in greeting as he strode past Howzer and Nemec, the motion almost automatic as his eyes remained glued to the data that he was currently scrolling through on his datapad.
He stopped short suddenly though as the sound of familiar laughter reached his ears. His head snapped up and his gaze instantly zeroed in on the source. For a moment he thought he was dreaming because you couldn’t possibly be standing in his base, laughing with his brother as the two of you were huddled under the hull of The Remora.
As if sensing his presence your head turned towards him and you gave him a cheerful wave, “Hiya Rex!”
He frowned, so much for keeping you safe and out of the loop. He turned his narrowed gaze towards Echo who was looking suddenly sheepish from where he was kneeling by your side. They would be having words later.
With a sigh, Rex walked over towards you, his data pad long forgotten as he focused on where you were clearly working on the ship. The answer was obvious but he asked the question anyway, “What are you doing here?”
“The part came,” You chirped, still smiling brightly up at him, “I tried to call you but couldn’t reach you so I comm’d Echo. He told me to bring the part down and then I figured I might as well give him some help with the repairs.”
Rex cursed softly as he looked at his comm, sure enough, he had a missed call. Likely from when he had been in his meeting with the Senator and had silenced the device.
“She is the expert after all,” Echo said, his pale eyes brimming with amusement as he looked between you and Rex. It only made Rex frown more.
Rex steadily ignored his brother, turning his attention back to you instead, “How are the repairs coming?”
“All done actually,” You replied, “Just closing her up, and then she’ll be good to go!”
“I’ll uh, let you two discuss logistics while I go start her up,” Echo said as he stood. You gave Echo a nod and a brief smile before you turned your attention back to tightening the last of the bolts. He patted Rex on the shoulder as he passed him, a grin on his face that Rex did not like the look of. Sometimes, with everything Echo had been through and all of the changes he had undergone, Rex forgot that Echo still had the ability to be a little shit when he wanted to be. The relationship between the two of you, even though Rex had insisted it was completely professional, had not been a secret to the boys in the 501st.
Rex stood silently as you finished up the repairs, unable to pull his eyes away from you as you went about putting your tools away. A sharp intake of breath escaped him as you paused to pull your hair back from your face, piling it onto your head and pining it quickly in place. His eyes traced the curve of your neck as heat pooled his stomach.
Likely sensing his gaze you looked towards him as you stood up, your eyebrows raised questioningly as amusement swum in your eyes.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” You asked with a soft chuckle, a wide grin on your face as you clipped a wrench back onto your tool belt.
Rex felt like his brain was malfunctioning, his face flushed as you smiled brightly at him. There was a gleam in your eyes that set his heart pounding against his rib cage. He hadn’t meant to stare, he just couldn’t stop himself it seemed. Whenever you were around it was as if nothing else existed for him. It had always been like that, but apparently, he had used to be better at hiding it.
Because you’re beautiful was the first coherent thought that came to mind. It was only after he noticed your eyes widen and your grin become absolutely beaming that he realized he had actually said that out loud.
“Well, thank you, Captain, that’s very kind of you to say,” your cheeks flushed just ever so slightly while he stood there like an absolute di’kut hoping a pit would open beneath him and swallow him whole. It was too late to take it back now though. Not that he ever would take it back. He truly meant it so he couldn’t reverse course now without coming across as intentionally cruel.
“I-“ he started then stopped, completely at a loss for words as his face burned with embarrassment. This was all Echo’s fault, somehow.
“Is that a conclusion that you’ve just recently come to? Because you sound somewhat surprised,” You teased which only made him flush further.
If he had been floundering before it was nothing compared to what he was doing now, “No...no...I...what?”
You let out a bright laugh, stepping closer to him and resting a gentle hand on his arm. He was once again glad to be back in his armour because even through it he could feel the heat of your touch.
“I’m just teasing you Rex,” You replied with another laugh, smiling up at him.
He still didn’t know what to say so instead he simply nodded. His attention was still focused entirely on you as you suddenly stood on your tip toes, the whisper of your voice against his ear sent a shiver down his spine, “I'll let you in on a little secret though. I’ve always thought you were beautiful too.”
With another gentle laugh, you pulled away from him, patting him on the arm once more before you move away. Leaving him standing there, completely dumbfounded as you waved up at Echo in the cockpit, giving him the all-clear to start up the ship.
The Remora rumbled to life, engines running smoothly once more. He continued to watch, clearly incapable of focusing on anything else, as you gave Echo a thumbs up before returning to his side once more. You looked up at him, a warm and somewhat expecting look on your face. After years of knowing you and being on the receiving end of that look many times before he knew exactly what was coming next.
“So,” You started, “Echo gave me the run down of what you’ve got going on here. I want to help you, in any way possible.”
Rex felt himself tense up, “It’s dangerous. I can’t ask you to put yourself in harm's way for us. If The Empire…”
You cut him off, “The Empire can stuff it for all I care, Rex. I want to help you. What you’re doing here is important. I might not be a soldier but I know I can still help you.”
“If something happened to you…” He started, his insides freezing at just the thought alone. If anything ever happened to you on his watch he didn’t know how he would live with himself. He had already lost so much. But he knew from the determined look in your eyes that he was fighting a losing battle.
You stopped him again, this time with your hand as you reached out to grab his own. It had the intended effect, shutting him up completely as his gaze flicked between your face and your joint hands.
“It’s worth the risk, Rex,” you said as you gave his hand a reassuring squeeze, “Please, let me help.”
He let out a weary sigh, “Alright," He might be clueless about a lot of things when it came to you but he knew when to admit defeat.
You smiled up at him brightly, fingers still interlaced with his own, “Thank you. It looks like you're stuck with me after all Captain,” Rex couldn’t help but smile at the comment. It was a throwback to better days when you used to gripe about always being assigned to the 501st for missions. You still weren't aware that he had been the one specifically requesting for your assignments.
"There are far worse problems to have,” he teased softly, “and just Rex is fine. I’m really not a Captain anymore.”
“Old habits die hard, Rex,” you replied with a shrug, “I should head back to the garage though. I’ll swing back around later though and we can discuss logistics.”
Rex nodded, though he was suddenly very aware that you were still holding his hand. Noticing his gaze you smiled up at him and for the second time that week you were moving before he could make sense of it. Your lips were soft against his cheek, the feeling of them once again setting his insides on fire and making his pulse race beneath your skin. Too soon in his opinion, you pulled away from him. He watched you walk away, his eyes never leaving you as you left the garage. You gave him one final wave that he returned before you disappeared from sight. He could still feel the ghost of your lips against his skin as he stood there, completely lost in thought.
“So…” Rex didn’t even need to turn to know that Echo was suddenly standing beside him.
“Don’t even start,” Rex grumbled, turning towards him and levelling a glare at him, “You and I are going to have to have a talk about maintaining secrecy.”
“Sir yessir,” Echo chuckled, knowing Rex’s words were all bluster. He gave him a mock salute with his scomp before he wandered off, leaving Rex alone with his thoughts. He really should move, he had a lot of work to do but he had the feeling he wasn't going to be very effective for the rest of the day. Not unless he could convince himself that he wasn’t actively counting down the hours until he would see you again.

Captain Marvel Prompt, GO!
The JL are having trouble with some magic users causing troble, so they call some magic users including Captain Marvel to deal with it. They end up having a bit of troubel so Cap calls in the best person to help. His brother obviously.
The JL had no idea he worked with other people and have no clue what their relationship is, but they're welcoming. Meanwhile Freedy is having the time of his life finally getting to know the JL and getting to work with them. This is his first anything with them and first imprssions matter.
Flash forwards, they manage to find their base. Its some casino like thing that anyone is invited to. They are about to go in when they are to that the buliding has some sort of power nullifier. So while it dosent take away their powers completly, they can't deppend on them and the supers are basically regular people with a very small boost that is barely noticable.
No problem right? They can still fight just fine with out them. And its not like they are taking their wepons away. It will be fine.
Billy: *Looks at his flying brother*...
Freedy: *Staring at his legs in despair*...
B/F: Fuck-
Cue Billy and Freedy derailing the mission for 30 mins as they break into a near by Walmart looking for anything and everything that can work as a crutch for Freedy while they yell at eachother, the universe, and Walmart for not having easy accese aids for disabeld people. All of this happening by a very confused JL that just stand awkwardly at the side not really understanding whats happening.
So much for first impressions
They get it eventually and help him find a par that fit. The mission is a succses and Billy and Freddy manage to stop the magic thing. Freddy is super embarrases about how his first mission went, the JL are impressed with his inteligence and ability to hold his own, and Batman is making a new protical for any and every dissability that their members could have, be it visibal or not.
(Billy is just super proud of his brother, and is still begging for his forgivness for breaking his crutches by using them as a wepon again)

was wondering if you could write something (whether a one-shot or a multiple chapters if you feel inspired) about a hotchniss affair where hotch is still married but his marriage isn’t like falling apart like it is most of the other fics with this plot. emily’s dirty self likes that he’s married and is fine with it being a casual arrangement. dom hotch and the usual angsty kinky nonsense.
A/N: Hi everyone! Another Hotchniss multi-chapter fic is coming your way based on asks from Tumblr. I would also like to add, that I do NOT condone cheating, I’m a firm believer that if you’re going to cheat then just break up. But with that said, I got this request and I ran with it, because I immediately got a multi chapter story idea. (And for some reason I excuse these two cheating because they’re meant to be.) I also am very aware that cheating isn’t everyone’s thing so please don’t read this if it triggers you, but to those of you who might, please let me know what you think because I need to know if I should continue this or not. Happy reading!
Title: Love like mine (1/11) Chapter title: Sugar on my lips, all it takes is one hit Summary: He wasn’t a cheater. Until her. Word count: 3,4k Rating: Explicit   Warnings (for this chapter): Smut, dirty talk, fingering, cheating
Aaron was never the type of man who had affairs, was never the type of man who saw the appeal of it. It wasn’t that he didn’t notice beautiful women, it wasn’t that he hadn’t had numerous opportunities to be unfaithful, but it wasn’t him.
Until her.
She walks into his office at a time when he’s feeling out of control in his life and the attraction was instant. Her dark eyes and a smile that held a secret in it, the way her hand squeezed his as she greeted him something that was practiced to perfection. She radiated confidence, until he turned her away. That’s when he saw it, the flash of determination and he knew the woman before him was unlike most others he’d known.
He’s proven right when she’s waiting for him as he gets back from a case days later and when he agrees for her to stay he can see that same look of determination in her eyes.
When he drove home that night, he couldn’t stop thinking her, that should have been his first warning.
Emily never imagined herself lusting after a married man, had never thought of herself as a cheater or someone’s mistress. But the first time she shakes his hand she couldn’t shake the feeling of want, something primal, something she hadn’t experienced before. Even as a gold band gleamed back at her from the way his hand rested at his side, she wanted him. She should care more that he’s married, she knows she should, but for some reason she doesn’t.
Instead it only makes her want him more.
He was something forbidden, something off limits in more ways than one. It doesn’t help that he’s blatantly dismissing her in the beginning, because to her it only makes him more of a challenge. She knew she was smart and capable, knew she was an asset to the team and when she proves herself time and time again, she can feel his eyes on her. He looks at her with some type of fascination, like she’s some kind of enigma he wants to figure out.
And she had no problem letting him.
It’s been a few months of working together when she touches him with purpose for the first time, her fingers ghosting over the top of his hand as she’s handing him the file in her hand. He notices, an eyebrow raising in question and she doesn’t look away, only lets the corner of her mouth lift into a wry kind of smile.
“Have a good night, Hotch.”
“You too.” He says, voice low and raspy and Emily imagines what he would sound as she wrenched pleasure from his body.
Aaron watches her leave his office with a deep ache in his gut, desire and guilt twisting together as he does. It’s a feeling he’s grown used to, because his attraction towards his subordinate was unmistakable. But he wasn’t a cheater, he reminded himself.
The second time she lets herself touch him, he’s helping her practice for her firearms exam. She didn’t really need the help, she was an excellent shot, but he had offered and she didn’t turn him away. He’s correcting her stance, helps her square her shoulders and she’s sure his hands are warm enough to burn through her shirt. It makes her want to squeeze her thighs together to relieve some of the pressure between her legs.
“Are you ready?” He asks over her shoulder and she’s sure he doesn’t need to stand as close to her as he does. It makes her shiver, his proximity making her mind hazy.
She refocuses on the gun in her hand and fires, hits the target dead center and as she turns her head back to look at him, she moves her hips back just enough to press quickly against his.
It's just a second, but it’s enough and Aaron backs away without a word. But she doesn’t miss the way his eyes linger on her body as she turns back to fire again.
They don’t talk about it, the attraction that only seems to get worse between them, even after longing stares and innuendos hidden in conversations.
The third time there’s no mistaking what she’s doing. It’s reckless, some would even call it stupid. They’re out at a bar, all of them except Jason, and she’s spent the night talking to Haley, his wife, and still she goes after him as he excuses himself to go to the bathroom.
She shouldn’t, but she doesn’t care. She hadn’t cared from the start and with alcohol in her system it seemed liked the last of her resolve had faded. He doesn’t expect it, so it’s easy for her to push him into a dark corner, away from the team, away from Haley.
“What are you doing Prentiss?” He huffs as he looks around them for anybody they know.
“Do you love her?” She asks, one hand pressed against his chest and her breath against his face.
“I do.” He answers and for some reason it makes her lip curl into a smile and she leans into his body, lets his feel her chest against his and her lips against his ear.
“That’s too bad.” She whispers and he closes his eyes tight in a vein attempt to ignore the pull of arousal in his groin. When he opens them again, she’s gone, already heading back towards the table they had been sitting at.
And he knows he’s screwed.
They’re called away that same night, and it’s a case that will haunt all of them for a long time. After the case is closed and they’ve all landed back in DC, he can’t go home. He’s too wound up, too angry, too much of everything he can’t bring home to his wife. He’s feeling out of control again, a feeling he cannot stand.
It doesn’t surprise him that he ends up sitting in his car outside of her apartment building. It’s been months leading up to this moment, months of barely concealed want toward the brunette with dark eyes and a smile hiding a secret. He debates with himself for minutes, counts every reason why he shouldn’t go into that building, and yet, his body seems to have a mind of its own. Somehow this feels like he’s taking some control back.
He leans against her doorframe after he’s knocked, knows that to anybody else he probably looks imposing as he stands there. But not to her.
She opens the door with a look of understanding, something close to smug as she mimics his stand and leans against the frame too.
“It’s late.” She says and the way the brown eyes gleam with satisfaction causes the familiar stirring in his abdomen.
“I know.” He pushes past her into the apartment and takes his coat off without prompting. “I couldn’t go home.” When he turns to look at her again, she has closed the door and is leaning against it.
“Let me guess, you had a fight with your wife and you came here?” She studies him as he takes two long steps towards her, crowding her space as he stands too close.
“No, I didn’t have a fight with my wife but it didn’t stop me from coming here anyways.” The way his voice has dropped low makes heat flare in her belly, because she knew she was about to get everything she had wanted since that first day in his office. He’s staring down at her, towering over her without her heels. His pupils are dilated, lips parted and when he licks his bottom lip she wants to tug that same lip between her teeth.
“Why?” She whispers and suddenly his hands are on her hips, pushing her harder against the door as she gasps.
“You know why.” He lets his lips ghost against hers as he keeps her pinned against the door. “Should I leave?”
“Probably.” She lets out a breathy, humorless chuckle as her hand comes to rest on the back of his neck, her fingers gripping the short hair there. “But you don’t want to.”
“Let me get two things straight.” He moves his hands from her hips and grips her wrists tightly. When she willingly follows his movements as he pins them above her head, he smiles at the rush it gives him. “One, if we do this, I’m the one in charge.” She sucks in a breath and Aaron feels another rush of arousal tingle down his spine as she nods. “And two, I’m not leaving Haley, do not expect me to.”
“You think I believe in fairytales and happy endings?” She snickers but his hands tighten around her wrists. “Don’t worry, it’ll be our little secret.”
It’s another second of his eyes staring into hers, another second of deliberation. But the line is already crossed, even if he walks away he knows he’ll end up right back where they are. Because he wanted this, wanted her.
When he kisses her, he hears the soft mewl coming from her and he presses even closer to her. His tongue pries her lips apart and she succumbs to him almost too easily. But then he feels the way she bites down on his bottom lip, hard, and he pulls back with a hiss.
The smirk on her lips matches the filthy look in her eye when he looks down at her again and even if he wasn’t already sure about this, the way she was looking right then would be his undoing. She’s still pinned against the door, her cheeks are the softest shade of pink, her breathing already ragged and he bites back groan.
“Are you just going to stand there staring at me?” Her voice is thick with arousal when she speaks, her words falling in soft puffs against his cheek as she does. “Didn’t think you’d be so passive.” The way he all put crashes his lips against hers makes her entire body heat up.
“So you like pushing buttons outside of the office too I see.” He mumbled against her mouth as he lets go of her wrists, only to pull her flush against him. “Where’s the bedroom?”
Their clothes fall in messy piles as they move towards her bedroom, hands are searching, lips are tasting, and by the time they’re upstairs Emily is completely naked and reaching for his boxers. He lets her push them down, but as she makes a move to kneel on the floor, his fingers tightens around her waist and he pushes her down on the bed. His eyes rake over the pale skin and soft curves, catches the metallic gleam in the soft lights and realizes that her nipples are pierced. He groans at the sight, takes in rosy nipples and the flush that’s spreading across her cheeks and down her neck. She was just as beautiful as he had imagined.
“What are you waiting for?” She breathes as she moves further up on the bed and to her satisfaction he follows her with a look close to wild, barely restrained want reflecting back at her.
“You’re very impatient.” He mumbles against her ear, one hand moving between them to hike her leg up. She’s more flexible than he thought. “We’ll work on that.” The low rumble of his voice vibrates against her and she bites back a moan. He keeps her leg around his waist as he moves down her body to suck one of her nipples, his groan muffled against soft skin as his tongue rakes over the piercing. Then he moves to the other one, bites down gently as she arches into his touch with a sigh.
“Hotch I-” Her words are cut off by his fingers moving between her legs, thick fingers almost too rough against her clit, circling slowly as he lifts his head and watches with a grin as her jaw goes slack and her head falls back. “Fuck me.” She gasps, she had wanted this for months, she couldn’t imagine waiting another moment.
“Not yet.” He snickers at the way she almost whines in disappointment, the sound quickly changing to a guttural moan when he pushes two thick fingers inside of her. Her walls cling to his fingers, hot and slick and he bites down on her neck to keep his own groan at bay. He curls his fingers, pushes them deeper and scissors them until she gasps and her fingers dig into his shoulder. “There it is.” The satisfaction in his voice as she grinds into his hand is unmistaken and he watches as her eyes flutter closed and she bites her bottom lip hard to keep from being too loud.
The sound of her slick was obscene, would make her feel embarrassed if it didn’t feel so good. Her leg is still hooked around his waist, her hips moving up to get even more friction and as the pressure in the pit of her stomach builds, she can’t do much else but to cling to him. She could hear him, mumbling praise against her ear, felt his lips and tongue as he kissed, liked and bit down on her neck. He was everywhere and she was finally getting what she had been craving for so long.
“I’m close.” Her voice sounds foreign in her ears, raspy and low and it makes him smile into her neck.
“You’re clenching my fingers so good, I can’t wait to feel you get this tight on my cock.” When she moans in response he grins, the power rush of having Emily like this, desperate and pliant and yearning, close to maddening. “Is that what you want? To have me fuck you until you can’t remember your own name? To make you come until you’re begging me to stop?” He grinds the palm of his hand against her clit and pushes his fingers harder inside of her.
“Yes, yesyesyes!” She cries out as she falls over the edge, her orgasm intense enough to make her entire body strain as the pleasure takes her over. He doesn’t stop what he’s doing, moves his fingers until she’s heaving for breath and loud moans turns into softer whimpers.
Aaron couldn’t believe how absolutely stunning she was as she gave into him, his eyes fastened on the way her face tensed in pleasure, how her eyes rolled back as she completely succumbed to him. And he knew he needed to see it again.
“Let’s do that again.” He mumbled against her lips before kissing her. Her tongue quickly found his, so focused on his lips on hers that she barely registered how he shifted above her. It wasn’t until the tip of him was notching against her entrance that she pulled away from his lips.
“I’m clean, and on the pill.” She whispered to his wordless question as both her legs wrapped around his hips. “Fuck me like you haven’t fucked your wife in years.”
Her words should make him angry, but they only turn him on, some twisted sense of depravity settling in his gut. And with that, he pushes forward, a grunt on his lips as he feels her slick walls around him.
“Fuck.” He groans, forehead falling onto her shoulder as he lets himself enjoy the way she feels around him. Hot, wet, tight. When he starts to move it’s with none of the care he usually takes, it’s rough and hard and then Emily is gasping against his neck, her labored breaths clammy against his skin. “Tell me how it feels.” He hisses against her ear, his teeth biting down on the lobe.
“So good.” She moans as her heels dig into his ass, wanting him deeper. “You’re huge.” When she feels him smile into her neck she clenches around him, not wanting him to think he has all the power.
“I know baby.” It was dumb, the pride he felt at her words, but they weren’t untrue and he knew that. “You’re taking my cock so well, you’re so good for me.”
The bed creaks with their movements, mixing with their breathless moans and groans. Hands move over sweaty skin, lips find new places to taste and kiss. It’s messy, filthy, exactly like she had imagined it would be. She comes again with his hand between their bodies, rubbing her clit with precise movements. When she gasps his name she can feel the way his hips stutter.
He doesn’t let her come down, keeps her beneath him as his fingers move faster over her clit, his hips strong against hers even as he feels his own release getting closer.
“Look what a good girl you are for me.” He muses as she trembles from overstimulation, her hands twisted in sheets to keep from digging into his skin. Her dark eyes are hazy and heavy-lidded when they meet his and he swears he’s never seen something sexier than Emily Prentiss, drunk on him. “You like that huh? Being good for me?”
“Don’t get used to it.” She sees the satisfied smirk on his lips, knew that he liked the challenge and she wouldn’t be giving in to him like this every time, no matter what he thought. “I want you to come in me, I want to feel the ache of you tomorrow.” She feels his fingers speed up even more against her clit, his hips jerking against hers and she whimpers.
“Filthy thing.” He groans before crashing his lips against hers. It’s messy, teeth clashing and more tongue than lips but the taste of her is enough to send him over the edge. The sound that leaves him as he comes is stuck somewhere between a howl and a growl, her name a snarl on his lips as he gives in to the pleasure of his orgasm.
The heat of his release is enough to make her come for a third time, his fingers still on her clit dragging it out until she’s twitching away from his touch. He’s panting above her, his body heavy and sweaty as he collapses on top of her, after-shocks making him twitch against her. She gently strokes her hand over his back, gives him a few moments to come down before nudging him off her.
“That was better than I thought it would be.” He doesn’t sound guilty, doesn’t look it either and Emily wonders if it would stay that way. Wonders if maybe in the morning he would think back to this moment and regret it. She wouldn’t be surprised if he did, but something in her told her that this was only the beginning.
“Really? I had no doubts about how good we would be at this.” She flashes him a smile and he laughs, something that’s louder than she expected but she found that she liked.
“You really are a minx aren’t you?” He rests his head against her pillow as she nods. He knows that he needs to go, it was getting too late to be able to explain his absence to Haley. Like she could read his mind she sat up, unashamed of her naked body as she leaned against the headboard.
“It’s getting late, you should go.” She thinks that he wants to stay, that he doesn’t want her to feel used, and she quickly adds. “I’ll see you tomorrow Hotch.”
Aaron looks at her for another moment before getting up to dress. It’s not awkward, in fact it feels easy, almost normal as he pulls his pants up and buttons his shirt.
“Do we need to talk about this?” He asks as he ties his tie.
“If this was a one-time thing, then that’s all it was. Like I said, I don’t believe in fairytales and happy endings.” It’s wrong, what they did, what they’ve been doing for months. But she knew that, had always known that and it didn’t stop her.
“I don’t think this was a one-time thing.” He leans over the bed, hands on either side of her as he speaks lowly, a look of certainty on his face before he kisses her.
She accepts the kiss he stamps against her lips in some sort of fucked up promise that this wasn’t the end.

Does anybody else feel like mental health awareness has done very little to help them in material reality
#i was gonna say done nothing to help but that seemed too harsh#like there definitely is more knowledge about it now. maybe more people feel comfortable speaking about it which is good#but personally i don't feel that. like idk. workplaces will post about mental health awareness and then do nothing to help employees#the same w universities. my uni cut back the already meager mental health support#and then the government is doing absolutely fuck all as well#like idk im just back in a place i thought id gotten out of long ago and i still don't feel comfortable talking about it with people#maybe that's a me problem or maybe it's cultural or something idk. but in the 10 years ive been depressed (🫠) i don't think it's gotten a#whole lot better. teenagers are still dealing with the same shit i did and they're still not being taken seriously#women's mental health is not even spoken about.....anxiety depression sh eds etc are still ignored or seen as hysterical behaviour in women#or just normal esp with disordered eating. society hasn't changed people still want women to be stick thin and weak#like i know 10 years is a short time and there has been massive improvements in mh awareness if we look back over the past 50+ years#but idk i just think that it hasn't gotten better for a lot of people#i think specifically of belfast and like god. the amount of trauma there is the amount of homelessness the amount of substance abuse#drug abuse in particular that has gotten visibly worse over the past decade or so*#and i connect the dots n see the 2008 recession + a tory gov defunding the nhs + dehumanisation of homeless people & addicts + the troubles#+ ptsd + generational trauma + a negative peace + classism + paramilitary drug dealers + parties linked to those paramilitaries#and its like hmmmm i think we live in a society. and a mental health approach based on individual actions like journaling and meditation#isn't the way to go. or at least is not the be all and end all which is what a lot of mental health awareness raising seems to promote#*visibly worse on the streets. it was always a problem ofc but even a decade ago my parents never imagined it would be as bad as it is now#and it's become so normalised. i do think there's less individualism here than there seems to be elsewhere which can be good and can be bad#but i think we are becoming more and more individualistic. slowly. there's still a sense of community here but i do think it's changing#and callousness towards homeless people is one of the most obvious examples of this.#love when i put a wee asterisk in the tags of a post. like i have A Lot To Say lol

Alright uninformed rant time. It kind of bugs me that, when studying the Middle Ages, specifically in western Europe, it doesn’t seem to be a pre-requisite that you have to take some kind of “Basics of Mediaeval Catholic Doctrine in Everyday Practise” class.
Obviously you can’t cover everything- we don’t necessarily need to understand the ins and outs of obscure theological arguments (just as your average mediaeval churchgoer probably didn’t need to), or the inner workings of the Great Schism(s), nor how apparently simple theological disputes could be influenced by political and social factors, and of course the Official Line From The Vatican has changed over the centuries (which is why I’ve seen even modern Catholics getting mixed up about something that happened eight centuries ago). And naturally there are going to be misconceptions no matter how much you try to clarify things for people, and regional/class/temporal variations on how people’s actual everyday beliefs were influenced by the church’s rules.
But it would help if historians studying the Middle Ages, especially western Christendom, were all given a broadly similar training in a) what the official doctrine was at various points on certain important issues and b) how this might translate to what the average layman believed. Because it feels like you’re supposed to pick that up as you go along and even where there are books on the subject they’re not always entirely reliable either (for example, people citing books about how things worked specifically in England to apply to the whole of Europe) and you can’t ask a book a question if you’re confused about any particular point.
I mean I don’t expect to be spoonfed but somehow I don’t think that I’m supposed to accumulate a half-assed religious education from, say, a 15th century nobleman who was probably more interested in translating chivalric romances and rebelling against the Crown than religion; an angry 16th century Protestant; a 12th century nun from some forgotten valley in the Alps; some footnotes spread out over half a dozen modern political histories of Scotland; and an episode of ‘In Our Time’ from 2009.
But equally if you’re not a specialist in church history or theology, I’m not sure that it’s necessary to probe the murky depths of every minor theological point ever, and once you’ve started where does it end?
Anyway this entirely uninformed rant brought to you by my encounter with a sixteenth century bishop who was supposedly writing a completely orthodox book to re-evangelise his flock and tempt them away from Protestantism, but who described the baptismal rite in a way that sounds decidedly sketchy, if not heretical. And rather than being able to engage with the text properly and get what I needed from it, I was instead left sitting there like:

And frankly I didn’t have the time to go down the rabbit hole that would inevitably open up if I tried to find out
#This is a problem which is magnified in Britain I think as we also have to deal with the Hangover from Protestantism#As seen even in some folk who were raised Catholic but still imbibed certain ideas about the Middle Ages from culturally Protestant schools#And it isn't helped when we're hit with all these popular history tv documentaries#If I have to see one more person whose speciality is writing sensational paperbacks about Henry VIII's court#Being asked to explain for the British public What The Pope Thought I shall scream#Which is not even getting into some of England's super special common law get out clauses#Though having recently listened to some stuff in French I'm beginning to think misconceptions are not limited to Great Britain#Anyway I did take some realy interesting classes at uni on things like marriage and religious orders and so on#But it was definitely patchy and I definitely do not have a good handle on how it all basically hung together#As evidenced by the fact that I've probably made a tonne of mistakes in this post#Books aren't entirely helpful though because you can't ask them questions and sometimes the author is just plain wrong#I mean I will take book recommendations but they are not entirely helpful; and we also haven't all read the same stuff#So one person's idea of what the basics of being baptised involved are going to radically differ from another's based on what they read#Which if you are primarily a political historian interested in the Hundred Years' War doesn't seem important eonugh to quibble over#But it would help if everyone was given some kind of similar introductory training and then they could probe further if needed/wanted#So that one historian's elementary mistake about baptism doesn't affect generations of specialists in the Hundred Years' War#Because they have enough basic knowledge to know that they can just discount that tiny irrelevant bit#This is why seminars are important folks you get to ASK QUESTIONS AND FIGURE OUT BITS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND#And as I say there is a bit of a habit in this country of producing books about say religion in mediaeval England#And then you're expected to work out for yourself which bits you can extrapolate and assume were true outwith England#Or France or Scotland or wherever it may be though the English and the French are particularly bad for assuming#that whatever was true for them was obviously true for everyone else so why should they specify that they're only talking about France#Alright rant over#Beginning to come to the conclusion that nobody knows how Christianity works but would like certain historians to stop pretending they do#Edit: I sort of made up the examples of the historical people who gave me my religious education above#But I'm now enamoured with the idea of who actually did give me my weird ideas about mediaeval Catholicism#Who were my historical godparents so to speak#Do I have an idea of mediaeval religion that was jointly shaped by some professor from the 1970s and a 6th century saint?#Does Cardinal Campeggio know he's responsible for some much later human being's catechism?#Fake examples again but I'm going to be thinking about that today
