I really don't have a problem with people changing the birth order of Kronos and Rhea's children in retellings, unless they make Hera or Hestia the middle daughter (odd as this choice is I've in fact seen it) or Hades the eldest child (a pretty common thing to find in stories).

The fact that Hera has the same status among the female children of Kronos as Zeus does among the males, whether that is as the oldest (like in the Iliad) or as the youngest (like in the Theogony) is unlikely to be a coincidence. It is also not a coincidence that out of all six siblings Hera and Zeus are the only ones who sometimes are imagined as actual twins, where the oldest/youngest daughter and son model doesn't seem to apply, but where the affinity between them is emphasised even more. In any case, regardless of how much accounts may vary,Hera is never the middle daughter, and I feel that this is quite important not just because of her position in relation to Zeus, but also because of her being called, in the Iliad at least, the most venerable daughter of Kronos and best of the goddesses by both birth and marriage.

Hestia is almost always named first when the children of Kronos and Rhea are listed, and in Homeric Hymn 5 she is called both oldest and youngest.

As for Hades, there is just no reason why he should be the eldest of his siblings. He is never presented as such in any source, his sisters are always older than him, and sometimes he can even be the youngest of his brothers. Surely it is possible to make him special in a story without giving to him the roles of other gods? Surely it is not so intolerable if the goddesses are born before him?

hey clay! you mentioned that you like claydol so i thought i would share

i work at a university that studies claydol variants! we have a whole bunch from around the world and work to try and learn more about them. i made sketches of my favourites

Bert and Xochitl are from the same excavation site. we think they were made as guardians for their families - and the handprints on them is like a bonding mark for them so they can find their owners. We think bert was a generational claydol since he has many handprints.

hestia and kratos are two different types of claydol from the same geographic location. Hestia was recovered from a shipwreck. we think 'she' was a sort of navigator for ships - and was designed to travel overseas with cargo. kratos is very elaborate - and he linkes to float upside down and carry things. We think he is a servant claydol - as similar figures are drawn on him alongside humans.

ooc: claydol based on globular mesoamerican jars, and greek amphoras and kraters

Oh this is AMAZING and a great investigation work! We knew that Claydol took their Hoennian form from ancient figurines, so it makes sense they'd change depending on the cultures that made them. Are they all Ground-Psychic types or did they evolve differently? Are Baltoy also different??? I need to know everything about 'em!!

Cassia and Hestia are gonna yell at Loki so much after they save him from his self-sacrificing ways in the finale. Right after they hold him in their arms for a few hours because they almost lost him again.

He needs to be yelled at bc he's making the stupidest choices in this series!!!! But also yes, they are hugging him so tight after all that nonsense bc stop being an idiot Dad/brother-in-law!!!!!

Not to get thinking really deeply into this but at this point Cassia probably feels closer to variant!2012!Loki than she does to her actual father from her own timeline, which definitely adds to the "STOP TRYING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED/LOST -" that she's always yelling as she runs after him to stop him from doing stupid stuff.

from the "Hestia Punches Brad" fic

“They think they know you from reading a file.” She scoffed, shaking her head. “I've known you for a lifetime, Loki. I remember when I first came to Asgard, scared and out of place, and you were there, pulling your pranks and- and being fun to mess with, and you made the worst of the early days better. That's what I remember - you always being there, making things better." Loki remembered it too. He had always liked to tease Thor by saying he was Hestia's first friend on Asgard, and as much as Hestia herself (his Hestia) told him she was grateful for it, he hadn't thought of it as making anything better for her. Loki had just thought he didn't want her to feel as out of place as be had. He certainly hadn't realized it had meant as much to her as it did.

watching this episode and skimming through past episodes I realized just like. how much the TVA assumes they know about Loki based on meeting his variants, reading his file. and to some extent, that's valid, omnipotent organization and all. but they don't know him. they don't know his thoughts, his feelings. and Hestia has ISSUES with how they treat him because of that, because sure, she hasn't read his file, she doesn't know everything he's gone through or what he was destined for, but she knows HIM. what can a file tell her that she doesn't already know? NOTHING. SHE KNOWS HIM MORE THAN THEY EVER WILL. THEY HAVE FACTS AND KNOWLEDGE BUT SHE HAS A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES AND A HEART FULL OF LOVE!

the history they share is a lot and so i'm gonna talk about that too. Hestia came to Asgard in a political marriage, estranged from all she ever knew, and it was scary! she had to figure out a role she had never thought she'd be in, in a place she didn't know or understand, learn all of the different culture and customs! with a husband who was kind and friendly, definitely, but there were expectations for them that she was afraid of, and so she could not let herself relax around him just yet. and Loki, being who he was, decided "Hmm. I'm gonna mess with her." both out of mischief but also like, his own way of showing affection. he knew what it was like to feel out of place and he saw she was feeling it and decided to try and pull her out of her shell in the only way he knew how, which of course was messing with her. only to have her turn the tables on him and mess with him right back. because somehow she figured him out and made his prank backfire on him. it wasn't what he was going for but, hey, she was finally relaxing as he and Thor and the other warriors were all laughing about the whole thing.

and that continued, with him easing her out of her shell - not just with mischief but through other means - and befriending her, making her early days on Asgard easier. he never acknowledged openly what he was doing for her, but she always knew, and she would always be grateful for it. That's the Loki she knows. that's the Loki the TVA's files don't show. and she hates that they won't look past their files to see him.

ask for the “director’s commentary” on a particular story, section of a story, or set of lines / send in a ⭐star⭐ to have the author select a section they’ve been dying to talk about!

If you were to assign Greek god skins to the other heroes who would get which god or goddess? Keeping in mind Junkrat called Dionysus already

I feel like I've answered this before but it was likely before new additions to the cast.

Honestly I'd cast Cassidy as Dionysus just because he'd be extra slutty in that skin and it would suit him immensely.

First of all Pharah is horrifically miscast as Hades and that that skin is busy as hell on her. I'd pick Athena for her in a heartbeat. I mean...helmet?? Bird theme??? JUSTICE???? The other alternative is Themis which could be really cool with the blindfold.

Ana is Hestia because headscarf and motherhood and also she deserves a cool fiery themed skin. Nyx is also an option.

Reaper is Hades (yes I know Thanatos is probably more appropriate but Hades is more well known). However!! It's very important that he has his Reyes face and not his usual spooky mask in this skin. He can have a variant of his spooky mask in a Thanatos skin.

Baptiste is Apollo because Apollo is a god of medicine as well as an accomplished warrior.

Kiriko as Artemis and her kitsune is replaced by a hound.

Hanzo as Eros!! A slutty skin to match Cassidy's!!

Tracer as Iris because rainbow.

Moira is Hecate.

Torbjorn is Hephaestus. Honestly Junkrat could also be Hephaestus because prosthetic leg and engineering and fire themes.

Doomfist is Ares.

Sombra is Eris.

Sigma is Ouranos.

Echo is Echo (The Nymph)

Mei is Demeter and she'd have a cool 'four seasons' themed skin.

Symmetra is Hera because she can definitely pull off the imperiousness and the peacock theme and the mental image of her death staring at you from behind Zeus Junker Queen is hilarious.

Not a Greek God but I really love the concept of Genji as Icarus or Perseus.

Mercy is already Nike/possibly Athena--but I mean, there's also Hygeia, the actual goddess of medicine. *cough* or Andromeda *cough*

Pet peeve

ignore me I'm just dealing with a pet peeve of mine from a webtoon I read.

lore olympus

-its an alright retelling of the persephone and hades tale. aesthetically it is quite good, the line-less art style is pleasing to the eye, and has strong color scheme and themes around the art. also the fashion. the fashion looks nice.

-story wise its not the best retelling of this story. but also by far not the worst. I do like the amount of research that dose seem to have gone into the story as the author (s??) dose mention and pull characters from all over the sphere that is greek mythology giving it a more concrete timeline and such from the mess that in general that is mythology.

Im not here to talk about the story, im not here to talk about the drama that apparently exists around the story and author (???), no im here for much more petty reasons, that being my own pet peeves about character designs.

the character in question:

here's the thing, I have this annoying character pet peeve that the character Demeter falls under. this is when a character has a design that for some odd reason dose not mesh with all the other established characters’ designs in a setting, in the case of Demeter it is the fact that she has this PURPLE hair when the rest of her is GREEN.

this pet peeve also goes along with characters that have wings (feathered) or tails and such, But their wings or tail is a different color form their hair. or it lacks a good reason for being like that. for example if a character is an angle and has white wings and brown hair I would normally have a problem with it, but if every charecter with wings in the story has naturally colored hair and white wings it will not bother me. if there is a good transition from one of the colors to the other it will not bother me. but if all the characters in a series have hair and wings that match color (what I prefer) but then theres one character (usually the main character) that for some reason has brown hair and white wings it wound bother me. (also no mincing my words, this pet peeve dose not mean I don't like diversity in my character designs, I do. its a bit odd but very specific and needs to be seen as a case by case basis, like hawks from my hero academia dose not bother me a lot) this is where Demeter falls into in this. because I have read through this comic a few times (I get bored) AND she is the only charecter like this. in most of the character designs there are three common options for how they appere Option one: the skin and hair are the same color. also includes slight shifts in color hue of tone, so two shades darker or lighter or so. (examples, persephone, Hermese, Zuse, Hera)

Option two: the hair is darker in color or lighter in color to the main color used on body. often bordering on black or white.

(examples, Hades, Apollo, Artemis, Thanos)

Option three: there is a main color and then there are some excess color as well. Generally appearing as patterns on the skin but also as highlights in the hair or patterns, like a lot of the flower nymphs.

( examples: Hestia, thesis, Aries, Eris )

so here are some Edits I made of her trying to fix my pet peeve:

all green of a slightly darker color.

here is going with a darker variety. makes her look a bit more like Apollo which may be a bit of an issue. though its not a bad look.

now this one has more shades of purple. but is still generally green. (I could have made the edits purple... but Im lazy)

here's a much darker green variant.

two more blueish variants.

the only lighter variants I manage make look even half way good... she dose not look good with lighter hair...

finally I wanted to do the other option.

adding more purple to the other parts of the designs

this second one looks bad, it may be the lack of patterns. it looks like she is bruised instead of the patterns like Aries or thesis. Which with the theme of trauma and healing from that that is precent in the story that might not be a good look.

I had less success with patterns than I had with simply changing the hair color. Though Maybe to make good patterns I would need to take a closer look at the character with patterns and find out why they work. And do a redesign with the entire body in mind rather than just the face and hands.

( in conclusion:

This is a pet peeve and there’s nothing bad about this particular character design. There are ways to “fix” the problem I have personally but at the end of the day it’s a minor personal issue and is good character design otherwise.

I just generally think she would look better with green hair.

I have some exciting news. With the babies running around it seems like someone decided that they needed to be big enough to protect and help care for the babies.

Hestia is a full fledged Charizard now.

And because I'm all for the strange, unusual, alternative, less common or local variants of myths, here are most of the accounts I know of that deviate more or less strongly from the traditional version of Hesiod where all the children of Kronos except Zeus are devoured at birth and then emerge from Kronos ready to assist their brother in the war:

Diodoros of Sicily, Library of History: The island which is called Rhodes was first inhabited by the people who were known as Telchines . . . and the myth relates that they, together with Kapheira, the daughter of Okeanos, nurtured Poseidon, whom Rhea had committed as a babe to their care.

Pausanias, Description of Greece: The following story is told by the Arkadians. When Rhea had given birth to Poseidon, she laid him in a flock for him to live there with the lambs, and the spring too received its name just because the lambs pastured around it. Rhea, it is said, declared to Kronos that she had given birth to a horse, and gave him a foal to swallow instead of the child, just as later she gave him in place of Zeus a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Tzetzes, Commentary on Lycophron's Alexandra 644: Arne was the nurse of the young Poseidon, who denied knowing where he was when Cronus came searching for him.

Pausanias, Description of Greece: Euboia is the name they give to the hill here, saying that Asterion the river had three daughters, Euboia, Prosymna, and Akraia, and that they were nurses of Hera.

Pausanias, Description of Greece: The story has it that in the old Stymphalos dwelt Temenos, the son of Pelasgos, and that Hera was reared by this Temenos. (also consider the traditions according to which she was raised on Samos or on Euboia, the Seasons being called her nurses in one source, or Tethys and Okeanos raising her))

Scholion on Iliad 1.609: To Kronos and Rhea were born three male children: Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, and three daughters: Hestia, Demeter and Hera. They say that in the reign of Kronos Zeus and Hera were in love for three hundred years, as Kallimachos mentions in his second Aetia, "Zeus loved [Hera] for three hundred years". In secret, they came together without their parents' knowledge and they brought forth a son, Hephaistos, both of his feet deformed, as the poet says, calling him lame. The fact that they met secretly from their parents is also attested by the Poet, saying: 'they went to bed without their dear parents’ knowledge.'.

Scholion on Iliad 14.295: Hera, while she was being nurtured by her parents, was raped by one of the Gigantes, Eurymedon, and she became pregnant and bore Prometheus.

Pseudo-Hyginus, Fabulae: When Opis gave birth to Jupiter by Saturn, Juno asked that he be given to her. Saturn had already cast Orcus beneath Tartarus and Neptune beneath the seas because he knew that if a son was born to him, he would be dethroned by him.

Lactantius, Divine Institutes: Here are Ennius' words: "Then Saturn took Ops to wife. Titan, the elder brother, demanded that kingship for himself. Vesta their mother, with their sisters Ceres and Ops, persuaded Saturn not to give way to his brother in the matter. Titan was less good-looking than Saturn; for that reason, and also because he could see his mother and sisters working to have it so, he conceded the kingship to Saturn and came to terms with him: if Saturn had a male child born to him, it would not be reared. This was done to secure reversion of the kingship to Titan's children. They then killed the first son that was born to Saturn. Next came twin children, Jupiter and Juno. Juno was given to Saturn to see while Jupiter was secretly removed and given to Vesta to be brought up without Saturn's knowledge. In the same way without Saturn knowing, Ops bore Neptune and hid him away. In her third labour Ops bore another set of twins, Pluto and Glauce. Saturn was shown his daughter Glauce but his son Pluto was hidden and removed. Glauce then died young. That is the pedigree, as written, of Jupiter and his brothers; that is how it has been passed down to us in holy scripture.

Hello, I'm Abby.

I'm Hellenistic pagan, though I am also looking into the Norse pantheon.
