To be fair, just because he was smart enough to figure out how to make a clone, didn’t mean he was good at it. That became very obvious when the first few clones of Danny melted. Then Danielle destabilized, and Danny had to save her.

By the time the events of AGIT came about, Vlad thought he’d perfected the practice. Dan had a new body and a second chance at life, and Vlad now had a son like he always wanted. They both gained a family, and Danny was happy for them.

However, after a few years, Dan was the first to realize that he and Dani weren’t aging. Danny was.

Through panicked calls and the digging of old files, Vlad discovered that while he’d forcefully grown both Danielle and Dan’s human bodies to what they were now, he’d somehow frozen the intrinsic and extrinsic aging processes.

Both Danielle and Dan were more ghost than human, and with Danny finally bringing peace to Amity Park, their bodies simply did not react to any of the normal stressors in the human world. They didn’t breathe oxygen, they didn’t have to fight off world ending threats every week, and they just simply didn’t expose themselves to enough ectoplasm to continue new cell production. (They even tested this theory by cutting off a lock of Dani’s hair and waiting a few months. It didn’t grow at all!)

Their bodies were just…frozen in time.

Both Dan and Dani wanted to be on their own by now, but their eternal baby faces were making it impossible. Danny was well off into college at this point, having grown into the Fenton genes quite well, and looked like their older brother or dad rather than Dan’s twin.

Cue a coming-of-age story featuring Dan and Dani as they, quite literally, try to force themselves to grow up and match their mental ages.

like yeah, true, mental illness is often a result of generations of pain being passed down, but it’s less in a “we are the spiritual leaders chosen to break this generational curse” way and more in a “my parents treated me like shit because it was all they knew and it fundamentally changed the way my brains works” way (sometimes with a side of “my family’s brains all work differently in a way that i inherited because there’s some genetic component to it”).

dealing with generational pain and breaking my family’s cycle of avoidance isn’t something that i was ~born to do~; my mental illnesses don’t make me somehow uniquely suited to that task. it’s actually something that’s infinitely harder for me to do because of the ways my mind has been affected by those things, but which i have to do anyway because i’m too aware of it now to just let it continue unchallenged.

but sure, his version works too…as long as you pretend that mood and anxiety disorders are the only mental illnesses.

no but bad considers himself the expendable one because he IS. he knows he can respawn. thats why he throws himself in front of all danger so the eggs dont have to- he can come back, and they cant.

but its not just respawn- lately, bad has been making some Concerning suggestions that he’s going to permadie, somehow. saying he’s gonna miss the eggs(despite his insistence that theyre alive/will be okay), that he’s expendable, and the Classic: “i dont want to die, yet.” He’s VERY casual about all of this - which can be chalked up in part to the uhhh extreme mental duress/devotion to his goal he’s got going on, but i dont think its JUST his self-sacrificial bullshit.

This isnt the first world bad has lived in. His lore includes a timeloop or a worldloop he was trapped in. he was worldhopping before that. ever since he met him, the only constant has been skeppy. This world is the first one where he hasnt had skeppy. I cant remember if bad explicitly discussed dying in any of those previous lives/worlds, but i would not be surprised if that was one of the things that forced him onto the next world. he knows that he can respawn; he knows there’s another world waiting for him. and, bonus, maybe the next world will have his skeppy. He’ll be okay, in the end. He’s expendable.
