I have that hater position for Katara.
I like the idea of Mai as an accomplice better, even when she measures Aang with some interest.
But I think it's just my desire to make the people of the Fire Nation feel for the air nomads (surprise, Aang is the only one left at the moment)

... I usually imagine it was accidental. Airbending and firebending is the type of bending that emanates from the master themself without much training... So inappropriate use during sex is not strange between these two bendings.

I imagine the ZukAang (with Fem!Zuko x Aang) was completely a surprise to the Fire Nation when the evidence was present.
Their relationship developed so slowly and tenderly that when the Councilors wanted to present their sons as future consorts for F!Zuko... Aang hung around the palace like it was a second home and F!Zuko always had flowers in her hair on Aang's days.

Of course I have more thoughts about the sexist attitudes Male!Katara would have.
Sokka and Male!Katara, being the only older boys (15 and 14 years old) in their tribe, play different roles to help their grandmother with the tribe. Sokka followed the path of the warrior and protector, while Male!Katara helped in tasks, although not masculine, necessary for survival in the tribe.
This made some girls in his tribe look at him with interest. It also doesn't help much to have Sokka as her only male figure telling her "It's normal, girls fall completely in love with guys who help them." So Male!Katara has this concept that girls will always fall in love with him just for giving them something in return.
At that point, he didn't have any romantic interest with the girls in his tribe... And then Aang appears, a girl who only sees him as a friend and a young waterbender... Not a future boyfriend or a tribal chief.
Male!Katara's idealization of Aang is much more evident, not only as the hope of ending the war, but also in being interested for her. So he's tried to get her attention and hopes to see heartfelt eyes in her for helping her (when clearly things are much more complex).
And as @el-hijo-de-hernandez-27 said, there are chapters that could change and would be seen with a different focus.
Male!Katara is upset and jealous of Fem!Aang, because he should be the strong one, he should be the protector, and he's the one who should rescue her. This thought is quite rooted not only because of its sexist ideas, but also because of the presence of one of the main antagonists of book I; Zuko.
Stories have been heard of soldiers capturing young girls and forcing them to marry them. So the reason Zuko wants to capture Fem!Aang is to marry her doesn't sound so crazy (but Zuko doesn't know Aang is a woman, because Zuko doesn't believe bald women exist).
Male!Katara has to start seeing Fem!Aang not as the damsel in distress or a support girl to end the war (because Katar is considered the main character). But he is the supporting character for the heroine who will end the war.
And he understands that when the Northern Water Tribe doesn't want to teach Fem!Aang waterbending and only wants to teach her healing techniques. Pakku tells Male!Katara that he is the one who must learn waterbending to fight and that she will take care of him when he gets hurt...
So... What will happen when she gets hurt?
What will happen if she can't cure herself?
Will he have to see another person important to him lose her life again and there is nothing he can do to save her?
Male!Katara has a talent for healing, he must heal when she needs it, because the world needs her.
Soooo tell me...
How much conflict would KatAang have with swap-genders? Aang not understanding her crush on Katar because she has friends in the past and it feels like a deeper friendship? Katar (who also has some sexist thoughts like Sokka) thinking that Aang should reciprocate because he has saved her so many times?

Ha jugueteando con las manos Aang este rato, por lo que presiona sus dedos y lleva el dorso tatuado a sus labios. Hay una buena reacción ante el beso en la mano.
—Ella estará bien, tampoco recibió a Toph con los brazos abiertos.
—Pero es diferente.
—Tampoco confiaba mucho en ti cuando nos conocimos ¿recuerdas?
Aang suelta una risa ligera ante su comentario, recordando lo mal que se llevaban, por lo menos de parte de Sokka. No podía confiar en los extranjeros por temor a otra ataque a su tribu, incluso cuando no se veía como de la Nación del Fuego, Sokka siguió a la defensiva, y aún cuando comenzaron a llevarse bien, el moreno seguía sin confiar en el maestro aire; cuando ocurrió el incidente de las manos quemadas de Katara sus muros se volvieron a poner arriba. Aún cuando Katara lo perdonó, fue bastante cauteloso por un tiempo.
Tanto para Sokka como Katara no es fácil perdonar a las personas que lastiman a alguien querido, y más cuando se trata de fuego control, la herida que parecía cicatrizar seguía tan abierta y dolorosa como esa mañana que la ceniza oscureció la nieve.
Sabe que Aang no es como ellos, se hace responsable de sus acciones y hace un esfuerzo por no huir de ellos. Sabe que Aang no integraría a nadie al equipo que intencionalmente quiera lastimarlos, confía en su razonamiento.
—Tranquilo, con el tiempo confiara en él, Aang.
—¿Tú crees?—el rostro de Aang se acerca y Sokka sonríe.

No hay muchas palabras después, más que besos ligeros por todo el rostro de Aang y terminando por sus labios. Cambia de peso recostando a Aang en el suelo son dejar saborear su boca. No ha pasado mucho desde que estuvieron se separaron, pero ¿No es una buena motivación besar a tu novio antes de partir a la guerra?
—Sokka, necesito hablar-...—las palabras de Zuko mueren al ver la escena.
Aang tenía las piernas enganchas a la cadera de Sokka, el no-maestro estaba despeinado y ambos miraban al maestro al maestro fuego con las mejillas acaloradas y ojos sorprendidos.
—Lo siento, no quería interrumpir—se disculpo y salió de la carpa.
No dió 10 pasos antes de que los enamorados gritaran su nombre para detenerlo.
Zuko, un poco incómodo, volvió a la tienda y hablo su problema.

I don't know if it could be considered a preference that the lore I have for yaoi ZukAang and straight ZukAang has its fair share of angst and is a slow burn...
While the Yuri ZukAang are doing speedrun and are staying together without any political-social concern involved.

Being Fire Lord after a 100-year war is hard... but it's not so hard if you have a cute girlfriend.
What better excuse to draw them with the "Flores Amarillas" trend? I don't know if it's only from LATAM, but it has become popular to give yellow flowers to your partner this season. There is even a tiktok trend about it with the music of "Flores Amarillas" by Floricienta (Argentine TV novel).
I'm really liking drawing Yuri ZukAang, maybe in the next ZukAang Week I'll just want to draw from them.
Anyway, the Yuri ZukAang I think that there is only happiness, that the angst is left to its hetero and yaoi counterparts >:}
