Caretaker had been doing what their name suggested for years and was placed by the Caretaking Organization on a large property that they kept their whumpees safe on. They loved each and every whumpee they cared for and even kept in touch with graduated whumpees.
They were a shepherd of safety, security, and self progress for these compromised individuals. There was only one problem: Caretaker was lonely. They went online to make a dating profile after being egged on by their whumpees who only wanted their dearest Caretaker to be happy.
The reception wasn’t great at first. Whenever Caretaker mentioned what they did for a living, they were turned away and told they must be broken or weird to want to house broken people.
Caretaker was ready to accept the fate of lifelong loneliness when Lover messaged them one night, late, and Caretaker told them up front “listen you seem charming but I want you to know this is what I do for a living. I’m not ashamed of it and will not stop.”
Expecting to be scorned once more, they went to do dishes. Coming back to their phone, they opened a message praising them for their gumption and the love they must hold in their heart to want to do such a difficult job. This surprised Caretaker so they cautiously asked Lover on a date.
They actually had a great time. Lover seemed interested in what Caretaker did for a living. No one ever was. This was new and exciting!
A few dates later and Caretaker agreed to date Lover. Months flew by in bliss. Caretaker wasn’t neglecting their whumpees but the Whumpees definitely noticed a sense of head-in-the-clouds from Caretaker as they seemed to be far away in their own dreamland. One who was brave enough to ask received a loving hug and was told “I’ll tell you all at dinner tomorrow night. It’ll be special.”
The next night, the whumpees gathered around the large oblong table, whispering to one another about what this special event would be; great smells were coming from the kitchen.
Caretaker came through the swinging kitchen door and greeted everyone. “Hello my dears, tonight we celebrate something very special. I want to share a new person in my life. This-“ Lover emerged with a huge pan of food, “is my new partner, Lover.”
“Lover helped make this incredible dinner for you all, and supports my endeavors to take care of all of you. I hope you love them like I love them.”
Cautiously, carefully, the whumpees tried this new food and slowly began to ask personal questions. Lover answered every question and held all of their attentions like an inspirational coach. At the end of the night, Caretaker and Lover sent all the whumpees to bed and dispensed medicine before doing the dishes.
Over the span of two months, Lover was a regular at the house and a fan favorite amongst the inhabitants, old and new. Caretaker asked Lover to move in and take a job with the Organization and Lover happily accepted.
All was well until after the night they moved in. The facade seemed to fall slightly when one whumpee didn’t like the dinner Lover made. “You will eat your dinner and you will thank me.” Lover responded sternly when told it could use more garlic in one’s opinion. The room became startlingly quiet as all eyes shot down and spines straightened. Caretaker said “Lover, that was really intense. Are you ok?”
Lover fixed their smile and publicly apologized to the whumpee blaming a long difficult day of training for work and that they were learning and listening and would do better.
The table dispersed with a varying sense of distrust. Dependent on the level of trauma and awareness, some whumpees accepted the apology and some were suspicious.
The suspicion grew into the second incident and the one Distrusting Whumpee snuck into Lover and Caretaker’s sleeping space. DW found a secret stash of pictures and magazines in a suitcase that definitely were not meant to be found. As they gasped and dropped the contents of the suitcase, they backed up into Lover who was silently watching them.
“Uhhhh what’s that?” DW asked accusingly but was terrified inside.
Lover stepped closer and towered over DW. “Those are not for your eyes. And if you’d like to keep yours, you’ll go back to your room and we will never speak of this again.”
“You wouldn’t. You, you COULDN’T!”
“Do you want to hang around and see?” Lover smiled and opened another suitcase full of metal instruments.
DW ran from the bedroom and slammed the door behind them.
Caretaker was dragged back to the bedroom later by DW followed by a parade of whumpees all atwitter over what happened.
DW became more and more frustrated when the suitcase containing the metal instruments and the pictures and magazines could not be found. DW threw Lover’s clothes around the room as they tried to find the damning evidence.
“Honey,” “I KNOW WHAT I SAW!” “H-honey, I know that what you experienced must have been very startling but maybe you’re misremembering. There are no tools and no magazines, no pictures, nothing. Why don’t we go have a cold glass of water and I’ll walk you to your room?”
DW sobbed because they knew they seemed crazy. Were they? Was this all a figment of their traumatized mind? They, they were prone to hallucinations.. maybe they had another episode.
Caretaker sighed as they handed DW a Xanax and a glass of cool water. They looked out the window to hide their tears when they saw Lover chopping wood for the fireplace for the upcoming winter. Lover turned around and waved as they knew they were being watched. They could feel it. The tension. It was growing.
That night, Caretaker approached Lover as they were stepping out of the shower. “Sweetheart, did you say anything to DW today?”
“I caught them looking through our things earlier, frantic for something. I’m not sure what. I tried to ask them if they were ok, tried to redirect, but they were determined to find something. Then they ran out. I still have no clue what it is they wanted.”
“Oh, oh ok,” Caretaker chuckled nervously. “They said you threatened them. Maybe their meds need adjusted. That’s one of the risks with this line of work, sorry Love.”
Lover brushed some hair out of Caretaker’s eyes and gave them a long, deep kiss. “Nothing could drive me away from you.”
Caretaker went to bed pleased, as did Lover.
Lover asked to talk to DW’s psychiatrist to pass on the story of DW’s strange encounter so the doctor could really understand what happened. DW’s medication was strengthened.
DW walked around with a blank look on their face and Lover could tell there were no thoughts going on behind their tired eyes. Caretaker said they would likely stay in their care until the medical team could get the hallucinations under control.
The third incident came when one of the most sensitive whumpees followed Lover into their private shed and was chased out. SW cried and cried because they were so scared. They started losing continence again and had to wear diapers to bed again. They hadn’t had to do that since they were rescued originally due to the constant fear.
“Lover, why would you scare SW like that? You know I have to make a report.”
“Dearest, there are so many sharp tools in there. I would feel terrible if they got hurt. Don’t make the report.”
Uncomfortable with this answer, Caretaker knew they had to report this but it would be the second report and cause Lover to be investigated by the Organization. DW was almost the third report but it was noted that their progress had diminished significantly and their medication change was significant as well, and that made Caretaker look bad for not noticing how “bad” things had gotten with DW apparently.
That night, after the report was made, Caretaker admitted to Lover that they would be called in in the morning to be interviewed.
“Oh, ok. Thanks for telling me.” Lover smiled. With the same smile, they took the pillow and smothered Caretaker.
As they slept, Lover pumped chloroform into the air ducts, putting everyone into a deep, deep, drug-induced sleep.
Lover walked to the shed and emptied their tools of torture into their car and dragged the body of an unhoused person found locally into the burning house before speeding away into the night.
They walked out of the house in their gas mask with a bag of clothes and collected tinder from the front yard. Lighting it, they ran back to their car to watch from a distance as the large whitewashed house burned, flames licking the walls.
The next day when the Organization Interviewer drove to the property, they found a tragedy. They counted 30 whumpees all in their beds and two people who seemed to be the caretakers.
A report was filed by a new member of the investigation team on the cause of death - faulty wiring. In fact, that report seemed to go along with the many reports made since Lover moved in. But no one noticed how similar the new investigation team member and Lover looked to one another. And no one bothered to ask what happened when the new Investigation Team member quit.

Moon aspect Venus(negatively)/Neptune individuals are the heart of crystal with haze around it. Pure yet blurred, surrounded by distinct thoughts of their needs vs wants. They may try to find their love in people who aren't the one. Be prudent while making choices as you don't want to be wounded in the end.
Lilith in 10th/6th/Virgo/Capricorn or aspect with Midheaven people please be cautious in your work environment. Not only this people get bashed for no reason or for just putting their opinions in front, is so witless. People envy their success/ work and slur too. Authorities can be a big problem for them likewise.
Mercury/3rd house with the influence of Venus is such a beautiful aspect. These people are great at writing( relies on other aspects too). They are good at paring their words in a ravishing way that it's almost bliss to hear them. Also a placement for good writers/poets on the topic of love, beauty, art, appreciation, etc.
Moon's prominence on the midheaven constantly makes great chefs, hotel managers, caretakers/nannies, teachers, preschool administrators, etc. In general, they are promising in these fields with their ability to manage things.
No one can beat a Venus- Neptune/Pisces Venus/ Venus in 12th people when it comes to having the trope of " one-sided secret admirers". Well, not prefer one-sided but yeah when they fall in love they are the most adorable. They can be so in love with their crushes/lovers, that it is unexplainable.

seeing kenji muto, the director of trigun stampede, reading an article about the portrayal of women in media made me want to take a little bit of a closer look at the women in trigun and as i was rambling about this earlier to my partner, they told me to write it down LMAO
as most of us know, in a lot of fiction, women are mostly characterised through common tropes, leading to a lack of complexity and a one-dimensional portrayal: as the doting wife, the femme fatale, the mistress, or the virgin. Their role only amounts to an Other, an extension of the male hero. they’re either the whore or the madonna.
for female characters in anime that usually means they’re either the sexy femme fatale, big badonkers and all to be gazed at, the mother, the helpless damsel in distress, or the child (yet, still sexualised despite the fact that it is a literal child); they’re portrayed through the way they are being perceived by men and mostly sexualised beyond belief.
tristamp doesn’t do any of that.
in fact, the female characters in stampede achieve something that you don’t often see in anime: they are people. and stampede makes that clear in its very first episode by decidedly not going the route that you would usually take with the female characters they introduce:
of course, the biggest example here would be meryl, who i’d argue is the biggest driver of the plot, despite the fact that the plot of stampede is technically determined by vash - vash is an entirely passive character, he doesn’t make things happen, things happen to him and they mostly happen to him because of meryl. she’s the one who unties him, she drags them to the city, she makes them stay with him after ep3, she drives over wolfwood (rip my man), she stops for them to find rollo, she makes them follow the steamer.. you get it. she does all of this, despite being introduced as the newbie, the innocent person who would usually be the damsel in distress, who is helpless and shy and easily manipulated and who will probs be sexualised in her role as the “virgin” (sexually naive young girl who just doesn’t get all this adult sexuality yet hehe)
but she’s not – she wears a non-sexualised outfit, she only gets called out for being a newbie, or for being small height-wise by wolfwood, but not for being a “girl”, she determines the action despite the fact that she does have a mentor figure and is therefore still in a position of a student – she still isnt an extension of roberto, vash, or anyone
in fact, the other characters – Rosa, Elendira, Luida, Rem – all take up roles that would in other media be portrayed in very specific ways: Rosa could just be a pregnant mother, who is also a divorcee, Elendira could be an innocent child beholden to her caretaker, Luida could be the loving motherlike figure and rem the Madonna figure, symbolising all the virtues a woman should aspire to have. – Rosa is a leader, her pregnancy is mentioned one single time and never made a bigger part of her character, Elendira is young but powerful, making choices by herself that are not inherently based on any kind of innocence, Luida doesn’t coddle Vash or prioritise him over her own work and mission (which also serves to inspire another woman, meryl!!), and rem is also just a non-perfect person, with secrets and questionable morality
none of these women are judged on the basis of their gender, none of them experience gender-based violence, none of them are made into a joke, none of them are sexualised (or desexualised – if you compare them to the male characters, who also do not ever make jokes about sexual promiscuity or similar stuff), they have different body types (rem has a very pronounced chest, and yet stampede doesn’t ever focus on it or give her cleavage) – note also that when presented with the perfect opportunity to call a female character a “bitch”, they chose to go with a “witch” instead, in both original japanese and english dub
their femininity is not used as a weapon against them, nor are stereotypical hypermasculine elements used to define characters’ positive traits (vash not being our traditionally hypermasculine hero for example) - the only time we see a semblance of gender-based violence is, you guessed it, at the very end, when knives forcefully takes control and bodily autonomy away from vash and inseminates the plants against their will (also interesting to note that knives, as the character that does exhibit that kind of violence, is the only character to be shown incredibly buff and all muscle)
the women in tristamp are written for women, with the goal to be women that we can recognise, that represent the women that we are and know
anyways, i love all women in tristamp and have not once felt uncomfortable or said “oh look, a panty shot” and honestly i just find that pretty neat

aphmau:
has the worst "hear me out" takes you'll ever hear. like seriously. she can very much point to a yield sign and say "would" to everyone's dismay.
knows every line in moulin rouge as she is OBSESSED with the film. she and laurance preform the elephant medley as dramaticly as possible whenever they watch it for movie night.
obsessed with pre-endgame marvel movies.
ao3 writer! she writes fics for the nichest of fandoms, so she doesn't get that many reads.
one of the few reliable booktok users you can TRUST will give you a good recommendation to read!
garroth:
obsessed with the movie megamind. like seriously. will talk to you for hours on and WILL defend the "sequel movie" and show because, in fact, they are NOT that bad.
can infodump about a topic he's interested in for hours on end.
actually really smart and kind, but ever since he found out he made zane insecure he tries to tone it down. he used to show off a lot but wants to make sure his brother shines as well.
carries stress balls on him so he doesn't use his strength unnecessarily.

can recite everything and anything about the ninjago lore. this man is obsessed with any lego product or franchise and has many sets built in his room.
practices talking to himself in the mirror every morning to give him confidence. he has very low self esteem.

Any prompts for a character who can see ghosts? If it's helpful, the character received the powers of seeing ghosts from a very traumatic near-death incident, but any ideas, using it or not, are welcome! Love what you do!
This is giving such BBC Ghosts [IMDB] vibes and I am here for it. It's one of my comfort shows, so sorry if some of these are very similar tropes from the show, just with an angsty twist!
How much privacy does your whumpee get? Do the ghosts know of any secrets the whumpee has, therefore making them paranoid/afraid/guilty?
Do they see the people they killed in the past? (Whether it be part of their job or as an accident.)
How long can they keep it a secret from others?
Maybe the ghosts torment the whumpee - by jumping out at them/making noises/cutting the power.
"Do you not see that?"
"Please tell me you see that?"
When they first wake up, they're greeted with a ghost next to their bed. They start to scream, and the caretaker believes them to be in pain/distress.
"What is that?!" "What do you mean? The heart monitor? The window? What's going on?"
Maybe your whumpee shuts down - they're too scared to speak as someone is always in the room with them.
How is it revealed to the caretakers that the whumpee is seeing ghosts? Do they have a breakdown? Are they found cowering in the closet?

A whumpee who is afraid of loud noises so caretaker needs to have soft voice even when they are accustomed to be loud
OOoo! I love these tropes, especially caretakers that already have a tough persona and it takes effort to dial it down.
Caretaker has slip-ups and whumpee sees their tone as anger. Caretaker only remembers what they did wrong when they flinch, cower, or do what they do best. Run
Caretaker talks to themselves in a mirror practicing their tone. They're rather shy about it and close all the doors and curtains like they're hiding a deep dark secret. (much to whumpees suspicion)
Not only do they want to talk calmly, they want to walk it, too. Maybe they have loud boots and their steps boom throughout the halls. They're not too keen on it, but those slippers collecting dust in the closet would finally be useful. Hopefully it's not the bright crazy colored ones- Oh. Oh no.

Hellooo! Loving all the posts about spider Desmond 🕷️
I am curious though, one of the replies mentioned something about Ratohnhaketon also having spider babies and I would LOVE to see how all that would happen too
The Spider Desmond idea (mostly AltDes)
For Ratonhnhaké:ton’s part, there are two main ‘nests’ I can see Desmond being ‘reborn’ in as one of his great great (insert as many great as needed here) grandchildren.
One would be the Grand Temple but this would mean that Desmond would be stuck in the Grand Temple… unless there is a small hole in the Grand Temple that only him and his spider children could enter and exit from?
The second would be somewhere in the Homestead to give us an easy time for him and Ratonhnhaké:ton to meet. The mansion’s basement could be the location as the Brotherhood do care and ‘revere’ the spiders so they would believe having a nest of them in the basement of their headquarters would be an auspicious sign. An alternate would be the mine near the Homestead. This way, Ratonhnhaké:ton would only meet Desmond after he became an Assassin.
Regardless of which ‘origin’ you pick, the main idea is that Desmond meets Ratonhnhaké:ton and this is more of a case of friends to lovers trope.
The changes of the plot really depends on if you want Desmond to also be part of Edward’s life or not but, for this idea, we’ll go with Desmond not being able to stop the Kenway Family Drama and only being born after Ratonhnhaké:ton was born. This means that Haytham is still a Templar and canon is more or less in place.
For this one, Desmond becomes Ratonhnhaké:ton’s closest confidant, the one person in the Homestead who listens to him and believes in him wholeheartedly. Achilles’ tough love approach only serves to push Ratonhnhaké:ton to Desmond.
On Desmond’s side, he’s still grieving over Ezio and Altaïr but it’s not an encompassing grief that shackles him. He lives with the grief and focuses on the happy memories he had with them. He also takes any responsibilities Ratonhnhaké:ton had in the homestead whenever he’s away so he’s keeping busy. This gives him time to write to the Italian Brotherhood, just to check up on his descendants. They’re doing well and that lifts a weight over Desmond’s shoulders.
The homestead know of him but they know him as a sickly man, unable to leave his room with a bed covered by curtains that hides his body, leaving only shadows.
He’s kind though and do care for them.
They also hear the joy in his voice when he talks about Ratonhnhaké:ton and it didn’t take the homestead long to mistake their relationship as ‘they’re keeping it a secret because it’s dangerous to flaunt this kind of love’.
Of course, Achilles hears about it and just rolls his eyes. He doesn’t bother to correct anybody because, as far as he was concerned, yes, the two idiots were falling in love and doesn’t even know about it.
Ratonhnhaké:ton is always accompanied by 3 to 5 spiders who help him. They can understand him and Ratonhnhaké:ton learned enough of their sign language to understand them as well. They’re part of the spider nest that Desmond woke up in and followed Desmond outside because he was more or less their caretaker during the last few years Desmond was still in the nest.
Later on, they become the unofficial nannies of Desmond and Ratonhnhaké:ton’s spider children.
All right, in terms of when their friendship turned to romance, you can take your pick.
My main suggestion would be after Ratonhnhaké:ton learned of Washington is the one behind the burning of his village and mistook Haytham’s actions as trying to manipulate him.
Ratonhnhaké:ton returns to the homestead and finds Desmond waiting for him with a smile as he says “Welcome home” and his rage turns to sorrow.
He holds Desmond as he tells him everything that happened and Desmond stayed by his side.
There is a moment when they look like they’re about to kiss but Desmond stopped him by pressing his hand over Ratonhnhaké:ton’s mouth gently.
Ratonhnhaké:ton was hurting right now and Desmond understands that it would be so easy to take comfort from someone who cares but Desmond doesn’t want Ratonhnhaké:ton to have any regrets. He tells him that he’ll stay by Ratonhnhaké:ton’s side for as long as he needs him but not like this.
If Ratonhnhaké:ton feels something for him that is deeper than one feels for a friend or a family then they would talk about it once Ratonhnhaké:ton is in a better ‘headspace’.
In the end, they do talk about it after a few days of Ratonhnhaké:ton just staying in the homestead and Ratonhnhaké:ton confessed that he didn’t know how he felt about Desmond until he thought about it these past few days. Before…
It just seemed so natural for him to act that way to Desmond.
Their relationship evolved so naturally that Ratonhnhaké:ton never questioned it.
From there, they make their relationship official although they start slow in terms of… the physical aspect of their relationship.
In this situation, their first children would probably be conceived the day before Ratonhnhaké:ton joins for the battle in Yorktown.
Among the children, Io:nhiòte would be the most in-tune with her spider half and is always seen playing with the other spider children. Their two older children would have varying degrees of ‘spiderness’. The oldest daughter would later become part of the Miles bloodline.

Before I get into it, I’d just like to say that I started working on a fic rec sideblog last month. The posting schedule doesn’t kick in until April, so it’s blank at the moment. But, it’s there, if you’re interested in giving it a follow!
Anyway, two caveats about this: one, I read a lot of drarry fic and have a bit of a poor memory, and two, I'm not certain that what I consider in-character to be the majority consensus of the drarry fandom (for example, I don't like down and out Draco, soft Draco, Draco hating either of his parents, or Harry being overly judgmental or unforgiving (though that's not to say I haven't read those tropes and enjoyed them)).
In general, any fics from my ao3 bookmarks will meet my bar on being in-character, since I tend to hit the back button if I start asking myself, 'who are these people?'. I took a cruise through my bookmarks in spirit of the ask though, and I'll post a list below the cut of fics that stick out in my memory as having some of my favourite characterizations:

Hermione buys Harry a journal and he ends up using it to record his DEEP THOUGHTS. Not surprisingly, those tend to mostly involve Draco Malfoy.
This one cracked me up. Since it's written in journal form, we get Harry's running internal monologue about his life. And a lot of Draco, because of course we do. I also always enjoy a Draco who actually is up to something, but it’s for a good cause.
The Gentlewizard Club by Sophie_French (28,129 words)
Draco wants what Draco wants. And if he has to snuggle up to Harry to get it, well, surely, Draco can handle that. Problem is, not sure Harry can.
This fic starts with Draco and Harry as both friends and Auror partners. As friends, the high point of every day for Draco is when he gets to read (oft-times aloud, and dramatically so) Harry's fan mail as it's delivered to their office. As Auror partners, Draco is barred in writing their field reports because he sucks at it. He's very happy to put that work onto Harry, and Harry is happy to do it (because he's pining hard, okay?).
That Draco and Harry are Auror partners isn't actually important in this fic (although the sequel has a case that they tackle). Harry gets a letter about having been admitted into a club that Draco really, really, really wants to join, and he begs Harry to sponsor his admittance. Harry can't say no to him, therefore, commence operation fake relationship for a weekend getaway. I love the balance in Harry trying to give Draco what he wants while fearing that what he wants will only hurt him.

Harry Potter only wants one thing: to take care of the people he loves. After Teddy’s abrupt departure from his role as Andromeda’s caretaker, Harry decides it’s finally time to step up and handle the job himself.
Castoff Manor, an old Black family estate, has never seemed as sinister as the stories make it sound, but it’s there that Harry stumbles upon ghosts, haunting family secrets, and a familiar, snarky blond gardener hell-bent on chasing him out. Maybe if Harry sticks around long enough, he’ll finally learn why all of Andromeda’s previous caretakers have fled without looking back.
Harry and Draco are in their fifties, in this fic. The summary about sums up Harry's characterization: he takes care of the people he loves, and a mystery at hand draws him obsessively in. As for Draco, I would consider him post-redemption. He took the consequences handed down to him after the war seriously, and has grown so used to the Muggle world that he lives there as comfortably as the magical world. He tends the garden at Castoff Manor to prevent anyone else being harmed in the role (part of the fic's mystery), and tutors Squibs in the nearby village.
One small detail that I love about Draco is how every time he gets uncomfortable, he hops on his bike and runs away. It's one of those things that, despite the rather far-flung future from the canon years, it's so absolutely in-character across time and space for him. He's changed so much, but there's still this degree of pettiness and cowardice deep down inside. It's just expressed in a less harmful way than it used to be.

Like above, Harry again takes care of the people he loves and cannot resist a mystery to solve. He's a Healer in this fic, a line of work that suits him well for his compassion, and Draco ends up his patient. Draco is on the difficult end of the spectrum as far as patients go (are you surprised?). Watching their Healer-patient power dynamic swing toward equilibrium is wonderful. They fall in love, Draco comes to terms with his (temporary) mortality, and Harry goes as far as he possibly can for Draco after he's gone: finding a way to rescue him from where the vanishing sickness took him.
Draco Malfoy, Bloodsucking Fiend by Kbrick (23,198 words)
There are two things that Draco’s Auror partner, Harry Potter, must never know about him. One is that he’s a vampire. The other is that he’s been completely, pathetically, head-over-heels in love with Harry for years. But when the duo is trapped inside an old shop on Diagon Alley with no means of escape, Draco finds himself fiending for blood and unable to put even a modicum of distance between himself and the man he can’t stop lusting after.
There are 3 of Kbrick's fics on this list, and I could have honestly added more. All of her fics that I haven't gotten to yet are on my to-read list. I just love the way she writes Draco and Harry, okay?? I'm a big baby when it comes to angst and hurt/comfort (more on that further down), but I absolutely trust her to put the boys in a blender on the highest setting that I can personally handle.
Anyway, this fic in particular, I'm all about that pining and the feeling of a countdown being on. Draco is resisting on two fronts: his feelings for Harry and his need as a vampire to feed. Harry is perfectly balanced in his obliviousness and perception.

The premise is on the tin. As for their characterizations, Harry and Draco are on a countdown to sort themselves out enough to make an escape from the dungeon at Malfoy Manor during the war. They can't help but poke at each other, so the fic is a compelling balance of ego and necessity.

Things were going just fine for Draco Malfoy. He successfully conned and counted cards across Europe and America, amassing a small fortune, along with a lengthy rap sheet. That was until he made the grave mistake of returning to England for a high stakes card game and got himself caught – by Harry Potter no less. Now, Draco is stuck in England under Auror Potter’s guard with no friends, no distractions, and no escape. How the hell will he pass the time? And since when did Potter get so bloody fit?
I'd had this fic on my to-read list for ages before seeing it on a rec list for morally grey Draco. That's my favourite kind of Draco, so I decided to jump this one to the top. Also, like I said about Kbrick above, The_Sinking_Ship is another writer with whom I've either enjoyed everything I've read (recs within recs: Never Mind the Bullocks, Dwelling on Dreams, and Chasing Dragons) or I've simply yet to get to the rest of their work.
For this fic specifically, Draco's done the best he can with the shit situation his life was in post-war, and he's a lion in a cage when he gets legally stuck in England. He and Harry meet for check-ins, and the chemistry goes from there. Draco has some self-harm tendencies, and his want for Harry ends up (temporarily) going that way for him. Harry's in a rut in his life as an Auror. I love fics where he goes into the force and then becomes disillusioned with it. That feels very in-character for Harry, to me.

More Auror partners with a Draco that is unhinged. Tbh, I am very fussy on Auror Draco fics. I don't see Draco as someone to subject himself to much pain and suffering (like in fics where it's emphasized that he was subject to much bullying/pranks/etc during training, and he persevered regardless). He's too hedonistic, and I don't particularly think that the war would have warmed him to the Ministry or the means it possesses of authoritarian force. Fool me once, and all that.
In this fic, each chapter covers a job or case that Draco and Harry embark upon. It's meant to be funny, and holy shit is it ever. These two are such dumb cops. Even with the genre shift from serious to goofy, they get the work done. It's been long enough now since I read it that I can't remember specifically, but I feel that sometimes Draco and Harry being disasters helped them solve their cases. The other fics in the series Rookie Moves belongs to are 100% reading through as well. I cried happy tears in the end.

Things like that he cannot fathom 'Potter's Muggles' talking to him and that he whinges the entire month he's at the Dursleys' house that it's too small, and the food isn't up to par, etc. As for Harry, he wants Draco despite all this, as well as despite how uncomfortable his month at the manor with Lucius and Narcissa is. I love when Harry is allowed to be flawed in that way.

This fic explores something that I've always headcanoned about how Draco and Harry got along throughout the canon books. We never see them have a single good or even neutral interaction (rather than Draco's part in their Madam Malkin's meet). They're always going at each other with their claws and teeth out, taking everything the other does in the most bad-faith interpretation. So, what happens when Harry starts killing Draco with kindness? I personally believe that if Harry did as such in the canon books, he would have very easily won Draco over.

It doesn't feel in-character to me; he'd feel just as free as anyone else post-war, and I can't see him even hiding his relief and happiness for it to be over for the sensibilities of the other survivors. On top of that, Draco coming back to Hogwarts and immediately pushing Harry's buttons? 100% him. Harry playing into it every time? Also 100%.

I wrote up above about loving a Draco who's up to something, and it's for a good cause. This fic takes that notion and turns it up to like, 15 at minimum. Draco's an investigative journalist, and he's going after some very dangerous people. He needs muscle, enter security agent Harry who's still adjusting to life as a werewolf. Harry tags along out of (hired) necessity on Draco's job, and they are a team not to be reckoned with. On top of their chemistry, this fic left me gasping for breath. Folks who've read it before will know what I mean when I say my heart was pounding out of my chest during the tunnel scene.

And if he yearns for something more, something he can barely bring himself to think about, well, he’ll probably get over it. No one’s happy all the time, are they?
But then everything changes, and Harry’s thrown into a new and dazzling world he’s not sure he can actually escape from. And as time goes on, he starts to wonder: does he actually want to?
Draco and Harry end up in such a wonderfully ridiculous situation in this fic. Harry wakes up in an alternate (Muggle) universe where Draco is a pop star. The Draco of his universe has come along with him, and he's a total shit about helping Harry get them back home. Harry's grumpy, Draco's having a blast. It's fun. It's them.
The Day Before the Wedding by Kbrick (39,419 words)

Time loops and Kbrick, my beloved (Turning Leaves is another excellent fic of hers with this trope). The summary says it all for the premise. Like Star Quality above, Draco is 'in the know' with Harry (though he doesn't tell Harry right away lmao). Harry makes some Realizations in the time loop. Seeing as it's a Drarry fic and Harry was meant to get married to Ginny, I'm sure it's quite plain as to what that might be.

Circles can be tiring. They have no end. But sometimes, the path is set for a reason, as anything outside the circle is even worse than what's within. Harry is running in circles with Draco Malfoy, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't escape.
Another fuck/fight kind of Drarry fic. This one takes place through OOTP, HBP, and DH canon, as if Draco and Harry had a secret sexual relationship throughout. I love how they come together like two accelerated particles, only to scatter to lick their wounds or attempt to process just what the hell is going on. It has the explosiveness that I love to see in Hogwarts-era Drarry fics when the war is on and they remain on opposing sides through to the end of it.

Listen: I bawled. I'm going to try to say this without spoiling the big twist. The fic nails how Harry and Draco tick together twice. Whether it's in a No Voldemort AU or a canon post-war era, these two cannot stay away from each other. I love the solution Harry and Draco reach at the end of the fic - the only way they can fathom any sort of resolution for what happened to them, despite how turbulent their waters remain.

corvuscrowned is another writer I put in the same category as Kbrick and The_Sinking_Ship. I've either read their fics and loved them, or just haven't got to the rest yet. What can I say? I love a slow burn. For more excellent fics from corvuscrowned, I will also humbly offer Loverboys (their first fic I read, which blew me away) and Seeker's High for your future reading consideration.
For this fic, the premise is on the tin, and crow executes it perfectly for characterization. I love their Harry in general, how he has his own complexes and the Harry POV isn't just Harry witnessing Draco's character. This fic is Draco POV, and Harry under a love potion is great. So is Draco's pining. They're perfect.
The Matchmaker's Spell by Kbrick (20,859 words)
Thanks to a spell cast over all of wizarding Britain, Draco is forced to marry Harry Potter, who still hates him. But Draco refuses to live a cold, sexless existence, choosing to fill the emptiness in his life and his bed with a parade of lovers. And while Harry may not be able to stand Draco, he despises seeing him with anyone else.
Remember earlier when I said that I trust Kbrick to put the boys in a blender at the exact intensity I could personally handle? This fic is right on the precipice of that. It's so angsty and dark. Draco and Harry are forced to marry, and their journey is so turbulent. Draco cuckolds Harry to push his buttons, and at one point their marriage goes well for a little while before shit happens and they're back on the rocks. They almost had it! We saw a glimpse of their potential!! Also, Draco's lovers keep mysteriously dying? That's sure weird and coincidental. The last scene in the fic made me gasp out loud.

This fic starts up right after the Battle of Hogwarts, where Narcissa demands the trio take Draco into forced hiding with them. This leads to Draco and Harry being accidentally bonded. Oops! I don't think I have to make the case for how well Saras_Girl characterizes the boys, but I think this one is my favourite so far of the ones I've read (also, obligatory Turn and All Life is Yours to Miss mentions here).

Hey there hope you are doing fine it is occurred to me that you are a huge lov Stan if it is not too much to ask could you give me a retrospective on your view of the lov and your opinion on them as they have grown and evolved and then your current opinion on where deku vs shiggy is headed thx.
I'm honored to be considered an LOV stan. Anyway, from the top:
Magne - Actually? Really enjoyed her for the time she was there. I think it would have been neat if her story tied into Aizawa, Hawks, or Nagant's somehow (meaning that they'd pursued her at one time or had been doing research on her specifically for a job - nothing super deep) to give her a little more focus and make the MHA cast seem more related and compact. I would have even liked her to live a little longer so she could do more LOV hijinks and show us more of that "big sis" title. I know some people don't like Magne or found it to be in bad taste that she died, but I don't feel it was a choice made in spite and I didn't have a problem with it, personally.
Kurogiri - Dark secret time: I actually do not really care about Kurogiri as Shigaraki's "caretaker" without the infusion of ambiguous Shirakumo energy and heart. I'm not a big "found family" person and I was never super into the takes of the major LOV fandom regarding this topic. Anyway, Kurogiri may or may not ever be exactly as he was as Shirakumo, but the more Shirakumo's presence is felt (even if he fights it and is like, "nooo I am loyal to Shigaraki! I don't care about these Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada people!" because even then, it's still kinda the Shirakumo-heart-of-a-hero-loyal-to-his-friends OS running the show), the more I like him. I'm super stoked with the straightforward trope choices HK made for this character.
Shuichi Iguchi/Spinner - Spinner is so cute. I think Spinner is so, so cute and pathetic and sweet and wanting. God, he'll follow anything if he thinks it might make a difference. He is ready to lay down everything for Shigaraki even though he does not really understand him. He is so desperate to be a part of something, his heart is honestly in the right place when it comes to the individual members of the LOV, but every choice he makes or moment of self-doubt he has makes things worse. His heart is pure and every choice he makes takes him farther and farther from what he really wants. Please save Spinner. Someone, please save Spinner. Please love Spinner and help him do and want things independently of others and by his own direction and efforts. It can start small like getting him to grow and care for his own vegetables before he figures out what it is he'd really like to do or be.
Atsuhiro Sako/Mr. Compress - He kinda left it all on the floor when his moment came, so I don't have much to say besides I like him and of course he stole my heart when he asked me, the reader, to listen to his backstory before he bled out from ripping a hole in his own ass. In some ways, I like this a lot given that BNHA is a story-within-a-story, but in other ways I feel like this could have been more elegantly handled. I'm glad he lived and I'm excited to see him do more things outside of prison. He doesn't need to be in prison. That's just my opinion, though.
Jin Bubaigawara/Twice - Fantastic. Twice was always cute in that pesky-annoying way of any Deadpool Expy, but I think he's even cuter and softer of heart than Wade Wilson. I love how straightforwardly his backstory is told once we're allowed to see it, and I love - and hate - that his last thoughts were that Hawks had no right to pity/judge him as lucky or unlucky. His final "curse" to Hawks is powerful to me, particularly since it shows that, despite everything, Jin had people who actually knew him for who he was and liked him for it. At least, he had Toga. There's really a lot I could say about the Jin-and-Hawks situation, including how Jin's rejection of Hawks' conditions to let him live were also a rejection of Hawks and his choices, but I think those are the highlights. I really like that he got less goofy as we got to know him, but was never NOT goofy.
Himiko Toga - Dabi is a close second, but I think Toga is my favorite of the LOV. Hers is a classic female villain trope - crazy, jealous, horny, pansexual vampire blood-witch - but the story takes her completely seriously and asks what the FUCK is wrong with the situation of the world in order for her story to turn out like this. She's a classic, but better and with a human heart. So like, the thing about Toga is that she and her behavior doesn't really change - it's only the context that does as more is revealed about her. Also, her cutesy-yandere antics combined with Twice manages to actually make a funny pair rather than an annoying one. I mean, yeah, they're annoying, but it's in a charming way. If Ochako breaks her heart I'll fucking enter that manga myself and kill her. But Ochako won't do that because Ochako understands what she is doing.
Toya/Dabi - I am a big!!! Fan!!! Of Toya's dramatic ass! Pathetic! Pathetic! Pathetic! Any time I think I'm throwing a tantrum and being a spoiled brat, I think of Dabi and realize I've not yet hit rock bottom. From basically his intro, it was obvious he was a Todoroki and even more delicious that nobody in-story (not Aizawa, not Shoto, not Enji, not Hawks, not nobody) could figure it out even when he was soooooo desperate for them to figure it out and then got to reveal it! On TV! Oh, the drama! The spectacle! (Miss me with the "oooooooh it's not confiiiiiiirmed Dabi is a Todoroki" stuff, 'cause, c'mon you guys: this is the over-the-top-dramatic-irony manga.) That said, the tantrum is warranted - the thing he honestly needs is attention and acknowledgement as well as continued support. Dabi is my favorite Daddy Issues character. Cannot wait to see what his life looks like after his tantrum's over - which I think will happen. He's still alive in the manga and the Todorokis still have a long way to go even if he does kick the bucket by the end (he won't, though his lifespan might be reduced or something. There's gotta be blowback for becoming a charcoal briquette twice.)
Tenko Shimura/Tomura Shigaraki - I actually didn't give two hoots about him until we got the confirmed insight that he's a little boy in a 23-year-old body. I actually find Shigaraki to be the most boring of the LOV, but a lot of interesting things happen to him and he does a lot of interesting internal repression and exploration even with his limited understanding and context for his situation. I enjoy that his "enlightenment" is an artificial one that encourages destruction but opposes not only the status quo but any future creation. He's change and chaos, but only until the moment he succeeds, because then his destruction will be the stagnant status quo. Right now, he's got the otherworldly white hair like a Japanese demon or half-divine being and unlike Toya (who is totally a vengeful spirit and fire demon straight from hell) he's kinda suggesting a western angel, too. Must be cool to be the most significant and "perfect" white-haired anime boy in a series, huh. That's a lot of power, Sephiroth.
He's a great dragon-and-damsel rolled into one, and Izuku is going to save him with some help. It's as straightforward as that. After that, Tenko will probably want to become the definition of a true hero - not a Hero (as in the in-universe job), but someone proud of the legacy his grandmother and Toshinori tried to uphold while still desiring improvements. His destruction may be channeled into a real weapon of justice meant to meaningfully destroy the corrupt but with the goal to then make right what had been wronged. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he undergoes another quirk evolution and is able to create stuff a la Fullmetal Alchemist using the stuff he destroys/using the same stuff he would have otherwise destroyed. If so, it might be more apt to call his quirk something like "Flourish"/"Growth" or even "Improve"/"Surpass" rather than "Decay". The one thing I think Shigaraki can never really accept (though he will bide his time if needed) is stasis. Kiri and Spider
Don't mind me, just been thinking about these two a lot as I brainstorm their relationship in the fic I want to write.
First off, Kiri. We can instantly tell that Kiri's connection to Spider is unlike her connection to anyone else around her. They are soft with each other, share the secret of her connection to Eywa, and are physically affectionate with each other moreso than she is with any other character (aside from Tuk who has the privilege of being a cute kid). From the way Kiri acts in the movie, I got the impression of her being at the age where she thinks all boys are stupid (which, fair), especially in the scene where she's being bullied by the Metkayina boys and Lo'ak steps in to defend her. She's seen to be rolling her eyes and looking visibly annoyed at both sides here. And yet, she never seems annoyed at Spider in the brief scenes we get of them through the film, even when he playfully pulls her tail, they just kind of prance happily around each other.
Now I think that Spider has no doubt in his mind that he loves Kiri. You can tell in the way he looks at her when she's not looking, the way he searches for her and knows where to find her first. They have unbreakable bond that I think lies in the fact that they're both kind of misfits. He's a human orphan who's Pandoran at heart who frankly no one wants, and while she has a loving family she's the anomaly that was born from a soulless Avatar. I think they bond over their outcastedness (I know that's not a word but bear with me) and that's what keeps them so close.
Another thing that stuck out to me is that she calls him "Monkey Boy". No one else calls him Monkey Boy among the Sully kids. It's purely an affectionate name between him and Kiri which further denotes how close they are to each other.
I know some people say oh but Spider's adopted by the Sully's or whatnot but as we can see throughout the movie until perhaps the very end, Spider is unwanted and independent because of it. I haven't read the comics but I know he had foster parents he never really connected with and were more caretakers than anything, the scientists don't really seem to care for him in that parental capacity either. Let's not forget that Neytiri can barely stand him and hates that he's allowed to get close to her kids. And Jake, Jake distinctly called Spider a stray at the beginning of the movie. This is further reinforced by the fact that when Spider is captured, neither Jake nor Neytiri have any thought of going after him when we all know that had it been any one of their kids, even Kiri who is their adopted child, they would have started a war to get them back.
The icing on the cake for me is the moment on the boat where Kiri's mom and Spider's father have knives to the children's throat. It's no coincidence that it's those two specifically who are being threatened in this scene. They chose Kiri deliberately to be there because they've been hinting at the depth of their bond throughout the whole movie. If it had been Lo'ak instead of Kiri for example, the vibes of the scene (for lack of a better word at the moment) would have been very different. But Kiri and Spider being there and begging to spare the other's life in that moment regardless of the peril their own lives are in further solidifies for me that those two have a bond that isn't like her bond with her brother or parents or Tsireya.
The way I personally think this is heading is the trope of childhood best friends to teenage crushes to lovers. I think Cameron is setting these two up to have a romance that will define the future of the Na'vi / human relations, kind of mirroring Jake and Neytiri's relationship from the first movie, but on a much larger scale this time, possibly in attempts of co-existence.
Anyway, just something I wanted to put out there for my own benefit and anyone who shares the same thoughts as me.

Auditory hallucinations whump? Thoughts? Examples?
any type of hallucinations in whump is perfect to me. visually hallucination? lovely. auditory hallucinations? nice. basically I’m a sucker for tropes where a character is a mess to the point they can’t trust themself, what they see or what they hear. they don’t know what is real and what isn’t. the sheer panic? the struggle? yeah I love that shit.
in regards to your ask about auditory whump a character (whumpee) suffering from, they can hear voices in their head telling them to do terrible things to themself and/or to other people, maybe to the people they love. the voices in their head can sound like someone they know, they can either sound like their enemy, their friend, or someone they’ve lost. maybe a dead lover where whumpee started hearing their voice when they’re mourning them.
the voices can say cruel things about whumpee themself, things that are whumpee’s worst fear or things that are whumpee’s dark secrets.
but the thing about auditory hallucinations is that it doesn’t always have to start with “unkind voices” in someone’s head. actually, in most cases, the voices someone in real life hears, if left untreated, can eventually lead to a full blown schizophrenia. it can start off as something kind and sweet, or something normal and random (like someone hearing voices telling them they should wear this shirt today), before things start getting worse; those nice and/or random voices can eventually tell someone to do something bad to themself and/or others.
and most people don’t go see a psychiatrist when it first starts off as something small / nice / random because they can just shrug it off as nothing. until the voices get to the point where they are aggressive and dangerous.
tropes regarding auditory hallucinations:
whumpee who’s mourning the death of their loved one starting hearing their loved one’s voices in their head, telling them they were the reason they died.
whumpee with self esteem issues hearing voices in their head telling them they’re not good enough.
villain whumpee who did bad things because the voices in their head made them.
whumpee who can’t tell if the voices they hear are real or if they’re hallucinating it. they’re struggling to distinguish what is real and what is in their head. in some situations, this can put them and the people around them in danger.
whumpee not being able to trust caretaker, because they don’t know if the voices really belong to caretaker or if it’s a part of their illness.
“listen to me. you have to listen to me.”
“stop it. stop! you’re not real.”
“yes, I am. I am real. and I need you to trust me.”
“the voices say the same time. how do I know you’re not one of them?”

Trope of the day: “I’m not as stupid as you think I am.”

Hushed voices follow whumpee as they walk down the hallway, team leader and caretaker keeping their heads together, shooting whumpee a glance every now and then. The latter knows it's been some time since they started limping again, but instead of sharing their concerns with them, the other two just talk to each other.
Whumpee stops midway and turns to face the others, both of them surprised by their sudden movement. "I don't know what you guys are talking about, but keeping secrets is not your strongsuit. I've heard you whispering for days."
Their heart stutters for a moment, they know they aren't as helpful as they used to be, old injuries acting up at the worst of times. But whumpee doesn't want to be unhelpful, they just want to belong. Caretaker steps forward with an apologetic smile. "We were just-"
“I’m not as stupid as you think I am,” whumpee interrupts them and looks up at them with a stern look in their eyes. "What is it this time? Am I too weak? Too slow? Tell me," they demand and feel their fists clench instinctively. It wouldn't be the first time a team decides to get rid of them ... whumpee feels the betrayal choke them.

Let's Talk Whump is a series of interviews with the wonderful members of the whump community. I'm Malice and I'll be your host. Joining us today is the one and only @oddsconvert !
Welcome to Let’s Talk Whump! Do you mind sharing a little about yourself?
Hi there, I’m Shannon! I’m a 21 year old psychology and criminology graduate from the UK! My favourite colour is yellow. I basically have a zoo of pets bahaha; I have four cats, a dog, a rabbit, two rats, three fish and two tarantulas (not mine - they terrify the life out of me!)
When I’m not whumping and traumatising my fictional babies, I love to crochet, listening to/playing music (I play piano, guitar, clarinet and ukulele), and I’m currently teaching myself to draw…for whump purposes ;)
What does whump mean to you?
For me, whump is freedom and release. Not only is it enjoyable, almost like scratching an itch? But it’s cathartic, and what I now see as a healthy coping mechanism for managing difficult feelings and a way to navigate my own trauma. Although, looking back, whump has been something that’s always been an interest of mine since early childhood, and has stuck ever since! Like rewinding disney films when the princes get tied up ahahah.
And also the comfort element of whump, I think it also helps me explore wants and desires in my own life. Writing my caretakers and their fierce protectiveness, and unconditional care over whumpees feels like it heals a part of me that maybe needed that at times. It gives you such a heartwarming feeling when you see these characters go through hell and back, and have someone to fall on at the end who will be there through thick and thin, regardless how choppy the water gets.
And how did you find the whump community? What made you want to join?
I used to scour pinterest for writing prompts! I only ever wrote in private, I’ve never EVER shared my work publicly before and never dreamed I would. But the more and more whumpy pins I was saving I was like “hmmm. These all come from the same site! Let’s go check that out” and then I scrolled the #whump tag for endless hours instead of doing my university dissertation. I remember coming across @deluxewhump and @darkthingshappen first!
At first I joined as a faceless, lurking blog. I really wanted to hop in and join all the creators I was loving so far but I was terrified. I think I had a bio as something like “working up the courage to post.” And then some lovely anon sent me my first ask saying they’d love to see what I’d post! And I slowly crept out of my shell and bit by bit started building my profile and adding my name and posting my whump drabbles!
Pinterest whump prompts gang rise up! That’s exactly how I found the community too! Has your view on whump changed since you joined?
I used to be ashamed of liking whump. Like it was some dirty little secret that made me a terrible person and I should keep it to myself. Hide it at all costs. Since joining, and interacting with this world-wide community of whump enjoyers, I realised it’s not something that should be taboo. If anything, it almost feels normal! Look how many thousands love it! And every single whump creator I’ve had the pleasure of meeting has been so kind, supportive and such genuine people!
It really feels like coming home when you find the whump community and realise you’re not a weirdo! Would you like to share your favourite whump tropes?
I’ve definitely discovered more about my whump taste! I used to just purely like captivity whump, usually with creepy/intimate whumpers. That was always my go to. Now? I’ve discovered SO many tropes I never even knew about and love! BBU?! Pet whump, whumper turned whumpee, bad caretaker, vampire whump, sickfics, hero/villain and so much more!
Non-optional, you have to share a favourite piece you've written? Hype yourself up, we want to hear it!
Without a doubt, my first ever chapter of ‘Shattered’ - my bloodbag whumpee/vampire whump series. I’m usually very self-critical of my writing, but I really love how this one came out and how well it was written. I pretty much never get whumperflies off my own writing, but my poor sweet Declan - just living dead and the way Vince is forced to take care of him.
But also honorary mention - my latest chapter of ‘Play Pretend’ . Play Pretend is my baby, and it was the first chapter of this series I had beta’d by my wonderful friend @whumpcereal and I felt like she just took it to the next level and kicked it up a notch. Josh’s fear and exhaustion came to life and I really enjoyed writing his inner monologue!
You weren’t kidding about the whumperflies in “Shattered”! Hot damn! What's your writing schedule usually look like?
Night time for sure! Dead of night - 3am most often ahaha. I’m a night owl, through and through. I’ll try and write in the day and nothing comes and then night comes and I’m like brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, whole chapter done! I usually have some music on in the background, sometimes I make a specific playlist for whatever vibe I’m feeling! And I mostly write when the inspiration strikes, as much as I can get out until the motivation vanishes.
And do you find that the words flow better for somethings than others?
For me, I find it really easy to write my creepy/intimate whumper scenes. For Play Pretend, writing Felix’s deranged and creepy obsession with Josh just comes so naturally (maybe I should be concerned…). The way he’s so unsettling but so adoring with how he speaks to Josh and touches him, I could write it in a heartbeat.
More recently I’ve been trying to delve into the nsfw portions of whump and writing. But I’m a newbie with it, and I really struggle with writing it or making it sound good.
Is there anything you're working on at the moment?
My usual schedule swings around, I update my series in an order. It tends to be, A Taste of Your Own Medicine, Shattered, then Play Pretend - and I’ve just updated ATOYOM so Shattered is up next! I’m primarily working on a flashback chapter with August currently! But I dot in and out of future chapters too.
I also have planned future whump series to come whenever my current ones finish up! But that’s a little while off yet.

Never ever write based on what you think people like/don’t like. The absolute joy in writing is the freedom in putting the pen to paper, or cursor to doc , and just letting your imagination run wild. Your audience is out there. People that will love and cheer for your writing, and I think you can really tell when an author has enjoyed and had fun with what they’ve written. There’s no good in getting bogged down with what others think.
Write for you, post for you, and if others hop along for the ride - all the better!

o/ not really a prompt but whats your favorite thing about drugs in whump?
Hi anon!! Drugs are so much fun in whump!!
I'd say my favorite thing is that you get to let your character talk with no filters, so there's potential for a lot of angst but also you can be funny with it :D
I like scenes where caretaker is trying to stay focused on the mission / rescuing whumpee and meanwhile, whumpee is just in a corner being as unhelpful as possible. It's the perfect chance to have your whumpee reveal a secret they weren't meant to tell anyone, or maybe their true feelings for someone!
Also! I have a soft spot for whumpees who are usually the happy/bubbly ones in the group and then get high as a kite for one reason or another and start casually talking about how much they're struggling like it's not a big deal- and of course, caretaker being horrified :D
Overall it's a great trope, there's so much more to it I could talk about it all day.
