i strongly believe that in any universe modern or otherwise lwj uses lan xichen as a kind of confessional like a catholic priest. he literally comes into lan xichen's room at four pm precisely because that's the scheduled time that he allows himself to share an Emotion with his brother and sits down and says in a distinctly monotone yet perfectly recognisably anguished tone 'brother i have sinned' and lan xichen sighs very quietly because he doesn't want to hurt his brother's feelings and puts down his pen and says 'is this about wei wuxian' very gently and Lan Wangji is like 'mn' because it has never once Not been about wei wuxian. and then he says something that is Kind Of Weird, But Still Not A Sin like 'he fell asleep when we were studying and i watched his ribcage moving up and down for thirty eight minutes until he choked on nothing and woke himself up; am i evil' and once again lan xichen will kind of not-sigh in a way that makes it very obvious that in all other ways except physical he Is, Indeed, Sighing and has to reassure the most rigidly distraught younger brother in the history of mankind that what he is suffering from is in fact a malady known colloquially as a crush

When Clockwork told Danny to round up all the speeders, he thought it would be a quick errand. But then he stuck around. He couldn't help it ok? He had never been a witness to one of CW's tongue lashings. Only the receiver. That's why he wanted to listen to Clockwork chew these speeders out for their misuse of the speed force.
It's also why he was still around when Clockwork said "In order to help you manage your speed more, King Phantom will be teaching you."
Wait.....WHAT!?

i loved the part of the book where piranesi resolves to take better care of himself while he's rediscovering his own history. he just has so much compassion for himself! the journal upsets him so he takes a week off and does things he enjoys and then he settles into a safe place when he wants to tackle the subject again. and he doesn't believe The Other when he's told about his amnesia! he values his own insights and his own knowledge of the House even when fucking ketterley is actively trying to undermine his sense of self. piranesi's gentle treatment of himself and the person he used to be is genuinely so moving.

I'm just gonna say it again real quick:
Yes!! Iron Man is a tragedy! It has and always has been since the very first appearance in 1963 which describes itself, Tony's life, and legacy, as such.
Tony causes most of his issues himself, he is his biggest villain, a majority of his rogues gallery are caricatures of the worst versions of himself brought to life (when they're not just being racist cuz...60s...). The worst thing about being Tony Stark is that he can't stop being Tony Stark (he tried!!) That is the point.
The majority of pain Tony goes through, is pain he inflicts on himself, whether intentionally or inadvertently. That is the point.
He is not A villain (at least. Not usually. There are...some rough moments and arcs that are. Not great. As there is with any character as old as he is). But he is his own main antagonist.

I’m breaking my No Tumblr For Lent rule because I really have to share -
I’m 65 pages into Mansfield Park and I can’t stand Edmund. He’s objectively a Good Person (which I can already tell is going to be a rarity in this narrative), but god is he insufferable.
The Crawfords are flakes, but at least they’re entertaining flakes so far.
Austen is always scathingly snarky but this is the first time I think she comes off a bit self-righteous??

The only reason Rick made Jason pass out so much was because he either didn’t know how to write him or because he was too scared to write him.
Change my mind.
And before people say, ‘why on earth would he be scared?’ Look at almost everyone’s reaction to someone who should’ve been canonically stronger than the main character.
The fandom lost their shit over Jason, about how he was just ‘competition’ for Percy and how he was so boring and bland, but did they not get the hints of this boys backstory??
He was literally raised by an army of teens after being abandoned by his mother and (he thought) his sister. When he finally reconnected with his sister, she was closer with Percy and Annabeth than she was with him!
I personally don’t think Jason did have any resentment for Percy either but if he did, I also think it would have been 100% justified.
Reasons?
Like I said, Thalia being closer with Percy than him. Plus everybody just loving Percy for being Percy, while as soon as Jason went missing, CJ replaced him like he was nothing.
I think some people hate Jason for how he treated Reyna as well, but Jason never got all his memories back! He barely remembered anything about his past! And Reyna literally replaced him as soon as she could! I’m not talking about Percy being made Praetor! I’m talking about how she literally made a move on Percy! This shows that Reyna never really cared about Jason, at least not romantically!
But Rick just didn’t expand enough on Jason’s backstory. He went into so much detail for everyone else (besides Piper but that’s a whole different thing because really besides her dad ‘ignoring’ her, what the fuck else did she go through?) but not Jason. And he set it up for such an impactful, trauma inducing background and did nothing with it??
What the fuck, Rick? What the fuck?
