The Night Eternal - Fatale (2023)
For their first republication partnership with CDM, Dovendyr - Heavy Metal Historian shares with us their review of German heavy metal act The Night Eternal's new album Fatale, released July 14th on Ván Records.
With their 2021 full-length debut, The Night Eternal has demonstrated themselves to be a competent up-and-coming heavy metal act from Essen, Germany. Dovendyr picked up a copy of their debut from their hometown on a trip back from Wacken Open Air in 2022 and was blown away. With the release of their second full-length album, Fatale, Dovendyr looks to see if The Night Eternal builds off of the success of their debut.

Live Review: Blind Guardian with The Night Eternal at The O2 Forum, London (14/04/24)
Nearly two hours of Blind Guardian magic. This might have been called The God Machine Tour, but the set they perform is more of a ‘best of’.
The last time I saw Blind Guardian perform live (outside of a festival) was 2016 and it took place at The O2 Forum in London. Eight years later, Blind Guardian are back at the same venue but, this time they’ve sold it out. Something they didn’t manged before, or the time before that. Which is growth. Small growth, but growth none the less.
The thing is, Blind Guardian deserve to sell out venues…

The fact that Riz Gukgak (the boy who doesn't know how to take a break, who is deeply afraid of drifting apart from his friends, who "has a hard time connecting to his dearest friends unless he can feel useful") was the one who manifested a creature that forced The Bad Kids to work together again and robbed them of having a proper summer break is so poetic.

Not to get emotional about my big dumb bird friends but, I love my big dumb bird friends.
If you watch Sunwings in the late afternoon, they will keep their wings outstretched to catch the last sunrays on their solar panels. Then as soon as the sun sets, they panic. They'll frantically flap up towards the west, squawking and flailing, before landing and booting up their shields - they'll repeat this pattern over and over again until dawn. But why raise their shields when there is no active threat? My theory is, they're scared of the dark. Their source of energy and light is gone and their tiny bird brains don't know it'll come back again because they aren't programmed to know about "morning". So they boot up their glowing shields, wasting their power, so they have some light against the dark.
Then the sun rises in the opposite direction and they go "...OH." and turn around to sunbath and recharge again.
So dumb, I love them.

Peter Quill: You seemed pretty casual about me returning from space like it was no big deal
Grandpa Quill: Please, compared to the other stuff that’s happened on Earth these past few years, you returning from space is nothing
Peter: Oh yeah, I guess after the snap anything’s normal
Grandpa: You better believe it. Did you know they added Captain America’s shield to the Statue of Liberty?
Peter: That’s unexpected but it’s not too weird
Grandpa: A witch placed a whole town in New Jersey under some spell and mind-controlled them into acting in her sitcom
Peter: Okay that’s fucked up
Grandpa: One day the sky turned back 2000 years
Peter: This is NOT normal
Grandpa: There’s an entire race of humans that live and breathe underwater
Peter: Please stop
Grandpa: Werewolves and vampires are real, always have been apparently
Peter: Is this what a midlife crisis feels like?
Grandpa: Oh, don’t forget djinn, they’re out there too
Peter: I’m just gonna stop listening
Grandpa: A newborn Celestial emerged from the ocean and got immediately petrified, then another Celestial showed up a few days later, it was larger than the entire planet
Peter: Alright that’s it, we’re moving to another planet right now
Grandpa: Oh and rumor has it the entire multiverse is in danger of falling apart, we’re not safe anywhere
Peter: FUCK!
