spare crumb of hibs and shiv ?
Tumblr media
hey look its all of them because im really nice (but actually its YOU ALL who are really nice. you guys are being enormously kind about fandom baby ily)
important 2 me that hibs was formula-fed by tom or primarily a rotating staff of nannies but every time tom fed hibs he would anxiously, rapidly murmur about how formula feeding has observable adverse effects on a child's development and health. if shiv is there she gets on her phone because she just cannot listen to that
here's a shiv diary section that makes me want to scream

The sheer scope of Aang's loss is terrifying to think about sometimes (all the time). He didn't just lose the air nomads -tho it's his most personal and devastating loss- he's lost everything. Most plants and animals went extinct, the places he knows are in ruins. He lost the four nations as he once knew them, the friends he made, the festivals he went to, the peace and harmony he lived in. The slang, the references, the dances he knows are something of the past, now scoffed at. No matter how much he remembers, how much is restored, there's still so much lost to time. Aang was taken from a time of peace (before being told he's the avatar anyway, and the war silently brewing) to a war-torn age.
And he has Appa and Momo and Bumi from his old life and all the gaang, of course, but it's just so tragic on so many levels.
The fact he chooses kindness again and again and again in the face of all what was taken from him.... that he chooses life and peace, to make amends, and follow the teachings of his people.... that he forgives.... Aang is actually the greatest character ever, and someone needs to drown him in hugs.
I know 😭😭😭 Aang is such an important character to me and he is so near and dear to my heart. I absolutely adore him and his character arc.
The fact he had unconditional love for the world even tho that same world took everything from him. The fact he did all of the things he did for others never asking for anything in return. The fact everyone tried to get him to give up the last of his culture and he put his foot down and said “no. YOU move” .. who is doing it like him? King
“But he never let it destroy his spirit. He chose to find meaning in his suffering, and eventually found peace.” When Katara said this in TLoK I threw up and died btw. Also when Aang said “It’s easy to do nothing, but it’s hard to forgive.” ten year old me felt that and I never really stopped feeling it.
We should all be a little more like Aang. He is the most special boy ever and he deserves the entire world and also 100 trillion dollars.

Tumblr media
finally.. the long awaited doughnut theory of mine, before i start im gonna tell yall that a theory isnt smth canon, and everyone sees it differently. so this is my theory!
Tumblr media
Music videos you need to watch so it makes sense: Doughnut, Kura Kura, Better
-
Better MV
Since this mv only has one scene that in my opinion fits my theory im gonna do it first (pls watch the mv before reading this, the scene is with dahyun rather in the end)
So we all know that the better mv was released wayyy before doughnut, but there is this one scene with dahyun that i first havent even noticed when i watched the mv, but the second i saw it i knew somehow that it fits my theory well.
Im talking about the scene where dahyun puts her finger over her mouth, in a way to maybe signal us to be quiet?
But why should we be quiet? Is smth gonna happen years after the mv? What is she planning on doing?
Doughnut MV
obviously, this mv is the most important. again, please watch it before reading this part. (im gonna try and keep it short)
Very important is the guy in the mv, pay attention to who he meets (Tzuyu's phone call doesnt count, ill explain later)
Members that met the guy: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Chaeyoung.
All the members i have just mentioned are dead.
Killed by the guy, I dont really know why he did that.
"But Tzuyu called him!" Yes he called him, but you cant realistically kill someone over a telephone call.
Now to the most important people: Dahyun, Jihyo and Mina (Tzuyu is important too, but she doesnt play a big role in the doughnut mv)
Dahyun and jihyo:
These two have smth going on in the mv its weird, maybe its jealousy, maybe something else im not sure. But what im sure about is that Dahyun murdered Jihyo.
You can see that in the scene where Dahyun does the finger pistol thing and Jihyo falls down on the ground of a place that has similarity to the.. heaven?
The bridge part:
The way Dahyun sings her lines and first she looks proud, happy, but she suddenly looks like she has no emotions? no smiling or anything.
in my opinion, this shows her guilt, her realising "i killed jihyo".
this isnt really important to my theory, but i find it weird how michaeng are the only members that "clearly" have a scene together (ofc they sang together but still...) maybe chae is trying to warn her? maybe mina is trying to warn chae?
The scene changes to jihyo singing her high note.
What can you see on her white dress?
Something that looks like someone shot her (dahyun's fingerpistol while aiming at jihyo?)
the wound is shaped like an heart, maybe dahyun killed her out of love?
The camera goes through jihyo, and who do we see?
Dahyun eating the doughnut in the beginning at the crime scene where mina was.
"But what does that mean?"
Guilt.
In her bridge part, she realised she actually killed jihyo, her solution? Killing herself by eating a poisonous doughnut.
so thats how dahyun died.
"What about Mina?"
Mina is alone in the whole mv (except the table scene and the michaeng scene), she wanders around, sometimes she is running.
It looks like she is searching for something. But for what? Her dead friends?
Everyone died except Mina and Tzuyu in the mv, until...
Kura Kura MV
and again, please watch the mv before reading this part.
only a few scenes in this mv are important for my theory.
dahyun sitting under a tree and eating grapes.
just saying it like this sounds dumb, but if you know a little of religion then it is odly familiar.
(im not an expert on this so sry if its wrong)
adam and eve had the same thing just with apples, being not allowed to eat them bla bla bla but eve does it anyway.
meaning = she sinned.
what did dahyun do? killing jihyo, a sin (obviously)
survivors guilt:
definition: Survivors guilt is a particular kind of guilt that develops in people who have survived a life-threatening situation. Some survivors feel guilty that they survived when others died. Others believe they could have done more to save the lives of others.
"Who couldve had survivors guilt?"
Tzuyu.
Why else is she killing herself in the kura kura mv? Drowning herself after everyone died and only her and Mina survived.
Leaving Mina completly alone.
The whole kura kura mv shows mina alone, her sitting alone in a cafe.
when she leans against a wall, it cracks. Why?
Because she has no one behind her, no one to help her.
All the TWICE members die except Mina.
Tumblr media
Ayy i finally did it!!!! this was fun ngl...
i hope yall enjoyed it, i kinda feel like an nerd bc im so invested in twice lore its crazy.....
i left out some things (for example the way jeongyeon was trapped in both doughnut and kura kura mv) since i didnt wanted to make it too long and in my opinion some of the things are not that important for my theory so...

What do you think about the claims that Omashu could still parallel Zutara because
1. When they “Bonded”, they were in Ba Sing Se, whose motto is “There is no war in Ba Sing Se”.
2. Zuko wore “yellow” during the catacombs scene and it happened while they were in a cave with similar colored crystals.
3. Katara defeating Azula is somehow a better parallel to Oma’s rampage than Katara’s anger at Aang nearly dying.
4. Oma or shu was holding an Olive branch and Katara offered to heal Zuko’s scar.
5. Aang can’t be a reincarnation of Oma or shu because neither was mentioned to be the avatar whereas Katara and Zuko could be their reincarnations.
I've already explained how nonsensical this "Oma and Shu is about Zutara" is, but MAN, the points you brought up only made it look even stupider.
1 - Being FORCED to be in a place together to bond is very different from willingly meeting each other. Ba Sing Se DENYING there's a war going on is very different from two people having to meet in secret because the war is THE ONE THING everyone in both rival groups is talking about. The situations are not just different, they're complete opposites.
2 - Zuko was wearing Earth Kingdom clothes because he HAD to blend in to survive. He did for the entire season, it makes no sense to connect that to a legend HE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF. And obviously the cave of Ba Sing Se, an Earth Kingdom territory, is gonna have the same color pallete of Omashu's cave, since it is also EK, and this show is aimed at 6-year-olds. That's why we have things like everyone in the WATER tribe having BLUE eyes.
Also, he and Katara were in a cave with crytals - but Katara and Aang were ON THE ACTUAL CAVE OF OMA AND SHU, and had their first kiss there, which they both seemed to enjoy. If simply having a conversation in a cave counts as parallels to Oma and Shu, Zuko opening up about his personal struggles to Aang (whose soul wasn't even there) in the North Pole and the Kataang dance in the secret party also count.
3 - Like you pointed out, Katara AND Aang fighting Azula, who had not even attacked Zuko at that point, cannot mean her grief over him parallels Oma grief for Shu (especially since, again, Zuko was fine). Meanwhile Katara was five seconds away from going Koizilla mode after Azula KILLED AANG IN BATTLE, aka the same way Shu died.
4 - FINALLY, a halfway decent point! Yes, the Crossroads scene was absolutely about two enemies maybe seeing eye-to-eye for once and realizing they're not so different - that's a theme that is constantly repeated through all three seasons of Avatar, through many different characters and dynamics.
But that doesn't change the fact that empathy/compassion is not the same as "I'm in love with you", nor the fact that, unlike Shu, Zuko REJECTED the peace offering - funny how Zutarians always ignore that part, huh? Once again, the situation is not just different, it's the direct opposite.
5 - The Avatar is the only confirmed case of reincarnation in Avatar. It's very possible that there are more (and Momo was originally going to be Gyatso's reincarnation), but we cannot say any character other than Aang is a reincarnation of someone else because the show did not ever say that was even possible.
And even if it IS, that does not mean Katara and Zuko HAVE to be Oma and Shu. There were literally THOUSANDS of people on opposite sides of a war on that show, and like I said, they were not even the only two characters to have a moment in a cave AND Zuko never even heard of the legend. He is not connected to it at all, unlike Aang.
(And while history repeating itself IS a theme in Avatar, cicles being BROKEN is also important narratively, so Zuko rejecting Katara's peace offering in Crossroads shows that even if, against all odds, he WAS Shu, their romance won't repeat itself, at least in this life)
Also, there's a big difference between saying "Katara and Aang are Oma and Shu reincarnated" and "The writers used Oma and Shu's story to further Katara and Aang's plot."
So yeah, bad, terrible, awful "arguments" just to pretend the Kataang centered episode was secretly about Zutara all along. These people gotta learn to the L already.

BNHA boys x Fem!reader
Mineta(🤮) pervs on you
(Bakugo, Kirishima, Todoroki)
(TW Mineta🤮🤮🤮)
Bakugo
It’s training day and everyone’s been paired up
Bakugo would prefer it if you only trained with him
(He’s tried bribing AND threatening Aizawa)
Bakugo would tolerate you being paired up with Kirishima
Not really
But no
You got paired up with Mineta
All was going well, Bakugo was keeping an eye on you, you were absolutely destroying Mineta, life is good
That was until you had Mineta pinned
You held him for three seconds before you climbed off of him and held out a hand to help him up
Mineta reached out and it looked like he was gonna take your hand
Until his hand went further and he copped a feel
He got blown up
Kirishima and Midoriya had to restrain him while Iida lectured Mineta
Aizawa is napping through all of this
Momo makes you a blanket and some (insert drink here)
Kirishima
Kaminari somehow managed to convince 1A to have a sleepover in the dorms common room
So far I was actually going well
Bakugo and Sato are in the kitchen
Mina has formed a dance circle
Kaminari and todoroki are playing Mario kart
Iida is making sure no one dies
And you and kirishima are playing stardew valley together (forest farm supremacy)
You’re making sure the farm and house are pretty and the animals are taken care of (there is a possibility of the chickens and ducks swimming in the pond if you put the coop next to it)
Kirishima is in skull cavern trying to get the materials for the wedding ring
You’re just about to remind Eijiro that the flower dance is tomorrow and ask if he’s gonna dance with you when a rodent Mineta approaches
“Hey (y/n), wanna play smash bros with me?”
You’re about to turn him down when he continues talking
“If you don’t want to we can always just smash”
It’s like a record scratch
Everyone stops
Kirishima has already hardened himself and is about to pummel Mineta when Todoroki freezes his feet, preventing him from moving
This gives Mineta enough time to run away
Once Mineta has disappeared for the night Todoroki unfreezes Kiri’s feet and the night continues
(You and Eijiro’s characters were married by end of night)
Todoroki
Class 1A mall trip yay!
Everyone has separated into their own little groups
Aizawa doesn’t care who goes with who just as long as no one is left in their own
It’s just a precaution after what happened last time
Well the only one who tolerates Mineta (Kaminari) is back at the dorms sick
And as Shoto doesn’t understand nose goes, you and him are stuck with Mineta
Mineta has made it his personal mission to annoy Shoto as much as possible
This mostly involves trying to peak into whatever changing room you are currently using
Shoto just wants the love of his life to have nice things and to wear clothes that make her look and feel amazing
And to use his fathers card as much as he can before it’s disappearance is noticed
But that’s kind of hard to do when you refuse to enter a changing room out of fear someone may spy on you
So naturally Shoto turns Mineta into an ice cube to drag around all day, only unfreezing him when it’s absolutely necessary to keep him alive

Return to Omashu
Tumblr media
Fire nation priorities. Yes, there's a war to win, but first! We must make our colonies aesthetically consistent. Couple of gates, some gold trim, and some spiky bits! Can't forget the gold spiky bits!
Tumblr media
Fulfilling the beat up Sokka quota this episode is raw sewage.
That sewer trek must have been long. They went in during the day and it's night now.
Tumblr media
I spoke too soon! The quota is in fact filled by tribbles.
"it's so awful I'm dying." I get the feeling that Sokka has been waiting years to use that line. I love how quickly everyone in the Gaang supports each others' spontaneous plans. It's a sign of a good team if you can ream off fake names without blinking and fake the plague without being asked. They all work so well together. Zuko could take some lessons from these guys on lying.
Well this episode's going to land differently post-Covid.
Looks like Zuko Jr.'s going to be in this episode. Bummer. Although tweedledee and tweedledum are intriguing. Who'd ever think to give a teenage girl villain a pair of eighty year old poetry twins? One of the great things so far about this show is how they consistently choose to go with the most out-there option and always make it work. In a show about defeating the firelord, they chose to kill the moon for the finale. And it worked. The plot point, not the killing.
So I'm thinking that orange and yellow must be an acknowledged fashion choice among the four nations outside of an airbending context, because of the number of times fire nation guards have looked right at Aang and not seen him. Also I think his tattoos must have selective invisibility.
It's a crying shame that Hot Topic doesn't exist in the Avatar universe, because this May girl just passed their employment interview with flying colours. I'm siding with what I'm guessing is her mom on this one. Just chill for a bit.
Ok maybe don't chill for a bit. Yeah my bad. This is not a good time to chill.
Tumblr media
Reusing the same Naruto run shot literally two seconds later.
How many projectiles can you fit in one pair of sleeves? She's got a whole armoury up there.
Seriously I know she's bored and all but no teenage girl should have access to that many weapons. If I'd had access to an armoury when I was a teenager, people absolutely would have died.
Tumblr media
So cute. I'll take 12 please.
Every sentence that Zuko Jr. is saying to this pink girl is some kind of veiled insult or threat. I'd adopt Pink Girl's wilful obliviousness too if I had to deal with that.
Tumblr media
Smart Bumi. He knows his people and his element. We've seen more than enough times already that something about being an earthbender makes you too stubborn to quit and unable to change plans even when your original plan is obviously not working (looking at you, Fong). So, knowing that his people are unable to change course, he prevents them from entering on to that course in the first place.
And Aang picks up on this too! Actually, since Bumi knew Aang growing up, do you think he picked up the concept of strategic retreat from airbending?
Tribbles to the rescue! Given that these are sewer dwelling creatures, this fake plague might turn real.
Tumblr media
I love how casual Sokka is about touching other people.
Tumblr media
Every street in Omashu seems to have a couple of bundles of twigs propped up against a wall somewhere. It's probably an animation trick to fill up the background.
Love the one guy really committing to the bit who just flops on the ground.
"Pentapox! I'm pretty sure I've heard of that." Humans are so suggestible.
Tumblr media
I love that Flopsy remembers him. Aang's propensity to make friends wherever he goes paying off again. Also, exactly how much metal to the fire nation have access to? They're doing the floor, walls, ceilings, of the whole city. There must be some crazy budget surpluses that need using up.
Tumblr media
This baby has an absurd throwing arm.
Machine gun Momo!
Tumblr media
This is what happens when you don't feed your lemur AANG.
I know cartoon physics is a thing, but can this baby secretly fly or something?
Poor Momo didn't ask for any of this. Guy just wanted some berries. Now he's getting his tail pulled and bitten (hopefully no teeth yet).
Add absurd grip strength to this baby's list of other superhuman characteristics.
Tumblr media
Baby apparently weighs quite a bit too.
Flying lemur unintentionally kidnaps baby. Did not see that coming.
Tiny nitpick: the circus master introduces Zuko jr. as "the firelord's daughter" rather than as Princess Zuko jr. Does she not have a title?
Nope. He's calling her princess now. Maybe there are a bunch of princesses in the fire nation and he was just being specific?
Thus begins the bullying of pink girl. Imagine going to school with a bunch of fire nation noble girls? There must have been casualties.
Tumblr media
I love Sokka so much. Expert hug administrator.
"everything so clever. So tricky." Actually the avatar forgot to feed his lemur and it kind of snowballed from there. Hands down one of my favourite tropes is when one side in a conflict assumes their enemies are master manipulators, then we learn that actually they're just failing upwards through shenanigans. Love that.
Tumblr media
Poor pink girl. The only viable strategy, both for her own safety and the safety of the whole circus, is appeasement.
"The universe is giving me strong hints that it's time for a career change." No blame cast, no fingers pointed, but also not giving Zuko jr. credit for influencing her. That's some fancy talking.
Tumblr media
And now they're reusing the campsite shot too?
Tumblr media
Poor Momo. That's about the face I make around babies.
I spoke too soon again. This episode's beat up Sokka quota is actually fulfilled by Katara's backhand. Because apparently it's a cardinal sin to prevent a baby from chewing on a potentially bladed weapon? Priorities girl.
Well that accidental kidnapping had some unintended positive consequences. Don't you love it when problems fix themselves?
Tumblr media
She even paints her nails black and wears fingerless gloves. Seriously. Hot Topic. STAT.
"Well, Asula called a little louder." Hell of a lot of information in that sentence.
Tumblr media
How long is her neck?
Tumblr media
Ego much?
Zhao was an asshole and unpleasant, but at least he had some good banter. Zuko jr. is just mean. I hope I see less of her going forward.
Bumi! Hi Bumi! I love Bumi.
Tumblr media
Pink girl's loyalty was tested with burning nets and released beasts. Now May's loyalty is tested with her brother's life. Zuko jr. is so good to her friends.
Why is no one able to recognise Aang? He's dressed like an airbender. The only one of those left is the avatar. It's not that hard.
Pink girl is lucky that Sokka is quite prone to friction.
More wood bundles. I guess it's for scaffolding?
Gotta give it to Zuko jr., she has excellent balance.
May has leg knives as well as arm knives?
And shirt knives. How does she not stab herself every time she sits down? And if this place is so boring, why does she feel the need to carry 8 billion knives?
Love the Appa tail slap. Underrated and underused move.
Tumblr media
So Bumi has no spine left.
Facebending. Neat.
Neutral Jing is a neat concept, but I'll be damned if any earthbender we've seen apart from Bumi ever bothers with it.
Tumblr media
Suddenly the 100 year gap between Aang and Bumi can no longer be ignored. Bumi is still Aang's friend, but he's got a century of learning and a city to protect. This is kind of a sad moment.
Tumblr media
Do May and Zuko have some history? Is that's what's being implied here?
Tumblr media
Wouldn't expect any less. I wonder how these two are going to explain the return of their son without painting the resistance in a really good light.
Zuko jr. is spelled with a Z.
Final Thoughts
Zuko Jr. gets a girl squad, the Gaang gets a reason to spend a season gallivanting all over the Earth Kingdom, and the audience gets to see Superslide part 2. A weird mix of establishing groundwork and having fun this episode.
I totally buy that the fire nation guards and governor fell for the plague thing. Anyone remember "that lemur! He's earthbending!" These guys are not smart.
The plague thing did not bother me at all. I thought it would, since the anti-science idiots in the Fortuneteller really annoyed me. I think since the fake plague was treated as a joke the whole way through, and never actually endangered anyone, it didn't bring up Covid memories.
I think Flopsy's pupils are sideways hourglasses, which contributes nicely to his uncanniness.
I think the stuffy that the baby was throwing is the same animal as the beaver bear thing at the circus.
I love Momo the machine gun. I think those are the same berries as the ones Iroh was going to double poison himself with.
Sokka getting to plan the plague and getting to save the day with boomerang was fun. That's two episodes in a row where he's been the plan guy. Katara got to use some of her new and improved waterbending as well, but she was really pushed to the background otherwise.
I think pink Girl, whose name I still haven't caught, is quite good at reading people. I caught more than one 'shallow-on-the-surface-but-actually-way-deep' statement from her. Also she can Vulcan pinch people's bending? I'm guessing it's temporary or else Katara would be really freaking out.
May was just too much. Too overdone. Yes, there are teenage girls like that, but it felt a bit on the nose. Actually, way too much on the nose. I get that she can't show any emotion in front of Zuko jr. for her own safety, but "can I offer you an egg fireflakes in this trying time?" is not exactly an appropriate response to your little brother's disappearance.
I'm still not liking Zuko jr. But I'm someone who never likes the villain anyway, at least not when our heroes are this likeable.
This episode was not easy on Aang. It was an interesting mix of bringing home the reality of the war and the reality of the time passed. Even when he seemingly got to save his friend in the end, he actually didn't because things are more complicated now. He untied the damsel from the railroad track and she tied herself right back on.
Further evidence for my 'entire fire nation is colourblind' theory this episode. Aang was not disguised apart from a hat made from a very incriminating colour. He had a giant blue stripe down the back of his head! Come on!
No Zuko this episode. He was last seen stealing a perfectly nice lady's bird horse, and it'll be a while before I forgive him for that, so good call by the writers to not have him around.
Now that I think about it, there was a lot going on this episode. Sewer break & enter, assassination attempt, fake plague, hostage exchange, water v. knife fight, fire v. air fight, vulcan pinch v. bending fight, Boomerang & bison v. knife fight, earthbending philosophy, girl squad assembly, lemur harassment, and baby restoration. This episode felt long in a good way.
How about, instead of learning the elements, Aang learns pink girl's vulcan pinch and just does that to the fire lord?

ATLA LIVE ACTION RANT/MANIFESTO
After watching it I started typing and couldn't stop. Sorry it's really really long and probably not very coherent.
(Since I wrote this, Big Joel put up a vid on his side channel talking about his thoughts on the first episode and he had a lot of points I agree with so watch that too if you’re interested) <- eta: ok jk sorry it already got taken off youtube it's only on his patreon now
I really dislike starting the story with the beginning of the war. It's like they don’t trust the audience enough to care about the protagonists without laying out all the Big Important World Context out right at the start, or they don’t trust us enough to understand non-linear storytelling. I’m trying really hard not to just hate on changes simply for being different than the show I grew up with, because god knows I have my own issues with it. There are scenes that are nearly shot-for-shot, line-for-line remakes of the original, which makes the parts they change really jarring and frustrating. I don't mind the way they combined some episodes or storylines or changed some details, like, June being the one who hits on Iroh instead of the other way around, but other changes just feel like they either miss something fundamental (to me) about the characters or the story or are just… arbitrary, which is almost worse.
One thing that REALLY frustrated me right from the start was that Aang wasn’t actually trying to run away. He goes flying to “clear his head” and gets caught in a storm coincidentally right as he says “ok Appa let’s head home”. Why? Everyone treats him like a coward anyway. Everyone is way meaner to him than in the cartoon about something that, in this version of the story, objectively was not his fault. Why? In the cartoon, he feels intense shame that he wasn’t there for everyone, even though he was twelve and about to be taken from the only person that wanted him to have a childhood, and he got so overwhelmed and scared by what the world expected from him that he tried to run away from it. In the live action, he gets to reunite with the spirit of Gyatso, who says, “you couldn’t have done anything if you had stayed. You just would have died,” (paraphrasing bc I can’t be bothered to give it more views just to get exact quotes) which is fine, I don’t think he needed a spirit world reunion with Gyatso but I can accept it. But if that’s what that gives Aang closure, what is the point of changing him to be less responsible for disappearing? In the cartoon Katara is the one who reassures Aang and helps him process his guilt, representing the people of the present who he can still help. The live action has the voice of the past, the people that he’s ‘failed’, reaching forward in time to absolve him of any sins. And remember that in this version he literally was trying to go home. It just feels like they’re trying to remove moral complexity from his character.
Less importantly (except to me maybe) I think that showing us the Air Temple pre-genocide removes impact of seeing it for the first time in the cartoon. I loved Aang hyping it up to Katara and Sokka, unwilling to believe that it could have fallen. It almost makes the viewer think maybe some of them could have survived in secret. Then, the contrast between his idyllic memories and reality start to sink in. It was an incredibly hard-hitting moment, dulled in live action by the audience having seen exactly what happened to the temple already (including an incredibly hamfisted “you can’t beat us while we have the power of the comet!” line from who I think was Sozin.) I think Momo is pretty cute though.
Another thing that pissed me off was the way they handled the Agni Kai: They combine Zuko's duels with Zhao and Ozai into one, where Zuko not only fights back against his father but gets an opportunity to deliver (presumably) a winning blow and hesitates. This choice weakens important aspects of his backstory and, to me, flattens his relationship with Ozai: 1) That he was never a prodigy firebender like Azula, feeding the inferiority complex that Ozai fostered 2) The Agni Kai was meant to be public humiliation, meant to teach Zuko ‘respect’. It was in front of hundreds of people, and it was a thirteen-year-old child against a full grown firebending master. Zuko prostrates himself and begs his father for mercy. His refusal to even fight embarrasses Ozai by exemplifying the 'weakness' Zuko's mother 'instilled' in him. In his duel with Zhao, Zuko makes a conscious choice to be merciful despite Zhao telling him to “do it” and kill him. Despite knowing how the fire nation views it as weakness, as cowardice, especially in this specific setting. It foreshadows his later choices, and shows his innate kindness. Combining the two duels doesn't allow us to see that parallel nor that growth. Reducing his act of mercy to a mere hesitation in the moment of victory, furthermore, reduces his agency.
In fact, the adaptation softens a lot of Zuko's role as an antagonist, giving most of his actually villainous actions from the cartoon to other characters. They keep him capturing Aang in the South Pole, but Zhao leads the attack on Kyoshi village, they remove the episode with the pirates (s1e9), combine aspects of episode s1e15 ‘Bato of the Water Tribe’ with ‘the Blue Spirit’ (s1e13) and ‘the winter solstice’ (s1e7/8) removing three instances of Zuko capturing or attacking Aang in favor of one with Zhao capturing and Zuko rescuing him. But I guess they add a fight in Omashu. Look, this is inevitable as a result of combining 20 episodes into 8. I don’t really mind streamlining a lot of these episodes, nor removing others (having episodes like ‘the great divide’ and ‘the fortuneteller’ only referenced as rumors Zuko hears in a bar is cute, to be honest), though the change to the Bato episode where Sokka merely has a flashback of his father implying he thinks Sokka is an incompetent warrior is a really unnecessary and bad change, to me. But they took out almost every instance of Zuko posing an actual threat to Aang and replaced it with one fight scene in Omashu. To me, what it feels like is the show runners know Zuko is going to become a Good Guy and thus they don’t want to make him act too Bad.
On the topic of Kyoshi island: giving Aang a reason to go there aside from wanting to ride the giant Koi, whatever. Removing Sokka’s chauvinism, okay, I guess. But it ends up replaced with extremely awkward flirting between him and Suki that feels motivated by nothing beyond each being the first non-relative young adult of their preferred gender either one has ever met. Whether or not you want to have Sokka start off sexist, and that could be a whole conversation on its own, him humbling himself enough to ask Suki for instruction was an important moment of growth for him that he doesn’t really have in this version. And they don’t even put Sokka in the dress and makeup!!! BOO! Also minor moment but I think it’s also sus for the show to have Suki remove her makeup as soon as it’s time for her to be a love interest and then just not wear it again. BOO!! She looked really cool though. It’s not like I think her first appearance in the cartoon is full of depth or whatever, and I think the cartoon turned her into a cardboard cutout as soon as she became a love interest, but it’s like the live action clipped through a wall straight to my least favorite parts of s3 Suki. It’s just disappointing. I also don’t like Aang being able to just talk to Kyoshi and his other past lives so easily but that might just be my cartoon-purist talking.
I didn’t mind putting Jet and Teo into Omashu, even though I think Danny Pudi’s ‘I had no choice’ justification for working for the Fire Nation holds up less well when he’s in a position of privilege in an Earth Kingdom stronghold as opposed to protecting a community of refugees in an isolated air temple. I don’t think they needed to add the Cave of Lovers plot from season 2 into the mix though. Not only that, but to rework that plotline so that 1) Aang isn’t even there, 2) it’s Sokka’s idea to put out their lights and follow the crystals, 3) that’s not actually The Solution 4) badgermoles can sense…. Emotions???????? Sorry that’s so fucking stupid it makes me angry. They include the legend where Oma and Shu learned earthbending from the badgermoles, so why would these giant creatures have learned to sense human emotion instead of the pre-existing explanation from the cartoon: sensing the world through the earth. You know, the thing that connects them to Toph’s earthbending. I guess setting up stuff as far away as… next season… isn’t important. They used the stuff from the season 2 episode “the swamp” for aspects of the winter solstice plot anyway, which is where Aang originally had a vision of Toph and thus was able to identify her as an earthbender in spite of her appearance. I guess they can come up with something else, but it’s just a decision that feels arbitrary. Sokka could have had his flashback without the spirit vision, but since this is before he meets and loses Yue they needed something, I guess. At this point I’m describing these changes not necessarily because I think they’re inherently bad but because I want to describe how fragile this jenga tower is getting, and how unnecessary they feel.
Ultimately it’s like… the things they’re the most faithful to are all the most surface-level easter egg references, while missing or changing the actual soul of the source material. Gran Gran gives the opening monologue word-for-word because Fans Will Get It. They include Bumi’s rock candy trick and lettuce leaf joke but make him resentful and angry at Aang for no reason I can understand. Sokka isn’t sexist anymore, he just has issues where his dad apparently thinks he ‘shouldn’t have lives in his hands’. Ozai is… wait- is he tearing up while he scars Zuko’s face?
I know we all love Daniel Dae Kim but we did not need Ozai so much this season, let alone Azula, let alone Mai and Ty Lee. We especially didn’t need a scene where Ozai praises Zuko to Azula while belittling her. For the record, because people defending this scene seem to think the issue is that the rest of us fail to understand that Ozai is playing his children against each other: That is not the issue. It’s that he did not play his children against each other in this specific way. He uses Azula to show Zuko how much he fails to measure up and threaten his position as heir, and he uses the example of Zuko’s failure to keep Azula in line. If she’s good enough and Zuko is bad enough maybe she’ll become heir. After all, that’s what happened to Ozai and Iroh. They are allowed to change this dynamic in adaptation but personally I think it’s a change for the worse, and the shot of tears in his eyes as he abuses his son lends credibility to an interpretation that maybe he does want Zuko to succeed. Lol. The cartoon focuses on Iroh’s reaction, his inability to watch, instead of Ozai’s… emotional conflict? Or whatever.
Katara and Sokka getting stuck in the spirit world as a replacement for their fever in The Blue Spirit is fine, I think condensing that plot and the winter solstice works decently. It’s fine that they changed Aang’s motivation for finding Roku to be getting info on how to save his friends instead of getting crucial info about Sozin’s Comet. After all, they clumsily introduced that in episode 1. It’s honestly fine (Read with as much cope in my voice as you want.) Combining that with Zuko’s half of The Storm is also…. Okay, even if I’ve already described why I don’t like how they adapted Zuko’s backstory. What frustrates me is that The Storm parallels Aang and Zuko’s backstories in a way that works really well with the events in The Blue Spirit. In fact, they’re back-to-back episodes. But the live action has moved Aang’s backstory to the beginning of the first episode. So instead of getting to see how they’re both constrained by the roles and times they were born into, and how heavily others’ expectations weigh on both of them, we have to have Aang explicitly spell it out for us. Rewatching these two episodes of the cartoon I was just really struck by how efficient the storytelling is. All Aang has to say after he’s saved Zuko is that he misses his friend from the Fire Nation, and that he wonders if he and Zuko could have been friends if they’d been born into a different time. All Zuko has to do is attack him in response. Because we’ve just seen why they can’t be friends in this time, in this world. The live action has to create some plot point about Aang having stolen Zuko’s diary, and Zuko having researched Airbender culture or something. They bond a little bit over brushes before Aang goes like ‘why don’t you turn against your family?’ The conversation (before that part) is cute, just like, not a good replacement for trusting the audience.
I guess once we’ve gotten this far it doesn’t matter much that Katara and Sokka have been captured by Koh, because of course they were. Yeah, they changed how it works, yeah, now he steals your face once you’ve succumbed to despair or something. Whatever. At this point it feels like nitpicking to point out that what made Koh so scary was that he would steal your face if you showed him any emotion at all. Who cares anymore.
^ok I wrote most of that before having seen the last two episodes, which cover the last three episodes of the first season of the cartoon. Dude it got even worse somehow. It’s been a couple days and my friends and I rewatched all of s1 of the original show in the meantime.
First of all, the changes to the dynamic between Hahn, Sokka, and Yue were completely inexplicable to me. Yue gets nominally ‘empowered’ in the sense that she’s no longer trapped in an arranged marriage to a total shithead, but at the same time they made Hahn seem like a… genuinely good guy? He’s humble, asks Sokka for his expertise, and nobly accepts that Yue broke up with him. When asked about it, Yue says ‘he’s great, he’s just not the guy of my dreams’, before kissing Sokka. (They also reveal that she was the sexy fox spirit that flirted with Sokka in the spirit world —I didn’t mention it before because I didn’t think it mattered at the time— so I guess we are meant to believe that Sokka is the boy of her dreams. Which we know from these two and a half conversations that manage to be way less cute than the awkward/shy flirting from the original show.) Even if they wanted to completely change Hahn’s character, Yue’s conflict in the original show was between her heart and what she saw as her responsibility to her people. They could just as easily have kept that element: that she isn’t in love with Hahn, but that for Political Reasons can’t just break things off. That’s way more interesting! But I do love a forbidden romance, so maybe that’s just me. The adaptation does say that they were at one point betrothed, which raises more questions than it answers. If both of their parents were anticipating this marriage so much that they set it up years in advance, why were they okay with her just breaking things off because she didn’t like him like that? Are arranged marriages in the Northern Water Tribe (I’m so sorry I forgot the name they gave it in this adaptation) purely meant to be love matches? There’s no financial or political element at all? Even for a princess? Whatever. Hahn still dies, this time it’s just offscreen. This time I’m actually a little sad for him, if just for his wasted potential.
They actually take out the engagement necklace stuff altogether, including the history between Pakku and Katara’s grandma, and the story of how and why she fled. I don’t really know why but maybe they thought “you lost the so-called love of your life to backward practices” was a weak reason to change his mind. So instead they have it that he doesn’t change his mind but it turns out Katara doesn’t need a master anyway because she’s already good enough to be a master! Despite not having been able to waterbend ‘more than a thimbleful’ before meeting Aang, and us not really getting to see her train at all. Gran Gran gave her the waterbending scroll she stole from the pirates in the cartoon, so I guess we can assume that contained everything you’d ever need to know. She loses the fight but wins the hearts and minds of the people. The women of the tribe support her when she goes against Pakku and go “we want to fight too!” Oh, did I mention this is all after they realize the Fire Navy is at their doorstep, so it’s less a fight about the right to learn waterbending than about the right to fight in war. And then again the issue of Katara needing to learn from Pakku is sidestepped by her magically being good enough now on her own. I don’t actually mind the change to include other women from the North standing up against sexism but to be honest I don’t understand taking out the betrothal stuff. It was a deliberate parallel in the cartoon- women trapped in loveless arranged marriages and also forbidden from learning any waterbending aside from healing. But whatever, it’s a choice. I can live with it.
What I don’t like is the way they’ve undermined Katara’s journey in season 1. Aang teaches Katara how to waterbend at first, and she also doesn’t learn to heal on her own before an elder shows her how to do it. In the cartoon, she’s been trying and figuring things out on her own all her life. Her hunger to find someone to teach her is a major motivator for why she wants to go to the North Pole. We see her struggle, get intensely frustrated and jealous that Aang picks up waterbending more naturally than she does, and work really hard at it. Her dedication and hard work are what Pakku eventually praises about her when he teaches her. He compares her to Aang, who is naturally talented but distracted. This is after an indeterminate amount of time, but whatever, condensed timeline, 8 episodes, whatever. We don’t even see Aang waterbend at all this season, which is kind of wild to me. I guess if you take out the Summer Solstice Comet deadline to master all four elements (which they did) Aang doesn’t really need to rush. Instead they kind of just have Aang have a thing of like “I have my friends to help me” which is….. ok….. Oh wait, is this why they don’t care that much about foreshadowing Toph? Are they just not gonna bother having Aang learn the elements and just have her show up and join them for whatever reason? Is that why they just totally removed ‘The Deserter’? Wait sorry, I’m assuming they’re planning that far in advance at all, my bad.
Okay also like I have to talk about this because it bothers me so much. Zhao was handled so badly. Whatever, have a Fire sage just give him the moon/ocean spirit exposition in a flashback instead of the way it unfolded in the cartoon (I guess we’re already not bothering to set up the great library since the gaang already met wan shi tong, I guess that’s… fine… Appa can get captured a different way, if they’re even going to bother with that plotline in season 2. If they’re even going to do a season 2.) Sure, the moon and ocean spirits are only in the physical realm and vulnerable for ‘only one night’ now as opposed to permanently. Zhao knows this but not that they’re fish. Okay. Whatever. Blah blah blah. Those are personal nitpicks. But what really gets me is that in the end, Iroh and Zuko kill Zhao. Or rather, Zuko doesn’t finish him off, Zhao tries to attack when his back is turned, and Iroh finishes him off (similar to the way their Agni Kai in the cartoon plays out.) In the cartoon, Zhao and Zuko are fighting, Aang-as-Ocean-Spirit grabs Zhao, and Zuko reaches out to try and help Zhao, which Zhao refuses. He chooses to meet his fate at the hands of the spirits he provoked rather than swallow his pride. This is such a good conclusion to Zhao’s character! The live action also fails to set Zhao up as a formidable firebender, which is also not strictly necessary but I think complements other elements of his character well. His first episode in the cartoon includes the Agni Kai between him and Zuko, establishing Zhao both as a firebending master and as someone who values his ambition and pride above all else. In s1e16, ‘the deserter’ we see him as the embodiment of fire’s destructive hunger: he is baited into destroying his own ships in his desire to “win” his fight with Aang. He gloats of how his siege of the North Pole will earn him a place in the history books, and to win he is willing to kill the moon, against Iroh’s exhortations. In the live action, we get a weird revelation that he was working with Azula, and she was the mastermind behind a lot of his plans? Huh? He also “reveals” that Ozai was only ever using Zuko to “motivate his sister”, which is both incredibly heavy-handed and completely redundant. I guess I should mention that the finale has a couple scenes thrown in where Azula is doing firebending training to pass some kind of arbitrary Test Ozai has set for her, while Mai and Ty Lee watch and tell her that her dad is like, being way too hard on her and she knows he’s manipulating her right? Thanks girls!
Anyway, I guess since the live-action completely removed the golden child/failure dynamic between Azula and Zuko we needed something to replace it. The “my father always said Azula was born lucky. He said I was lucky to be born” line summed up that relationship dynamic nicely. Oh well, who needs it. Instead Zuko is good enough to have beaten Ozai in a duel at 13, but Ozai decided he was weak for hesitating. Meanwhile Azula is struggling to meet his expectations. He banished his heir on a mission that, for the last hundred years, was considered a complete dead-end, so that he could, uhhhhh, Motivate her when he miraculously started succeeding. Masterful gambit, sir. Okay sorry to harp on that again. Back to Zhao. Actually, what else is there to say. He has a couple funny lines but he’s just not the same guy at all on either a superficial or deeper level. It’s so disappointing. It’s also just a really weak choice to make Iroh and Zuko responsible for his death. Maybe they couldn’t figure out how to make the special effects look good when the ocean spirit picked him up. It just misses the point of Zhao’s ultimate tragedy, to me. The man so lacking in self-control, so ambitious, so assured in his own superiority, that he saw the spirits themselves as his prey. To be destroyed by the forces he tried to destroy is so poetic! Instead let’s water down Zuko’s mercy and Iroh’s pacifism.
This is all I can remember at this point aside from nitpicks. Do I think the Koh vs Kuruk backstory needed to be spelled out like that? No. Did we need to almost have Momo DIE to get Sokka and Yue to the oasis? Not really. I don’t think the way Zhao “assassinated” Zuko in the live action made as much sense, but we took out the pirates so oh well.
When you get to a certain point I guess the question becomes ‘how much can you change in an adaptation and still call it an adaptation’. What do adaptations owe to their source material? Where does the spirit of a story reside? If the same plot beats happen, does it matter if characters are different? If the characters are faithful, does it matter if events are moved around? If the destination is the same, how much does it matter how you get there? What do I personally want to see in a ‘live-action’ adaptation of Avatar, this show that I loved so much growing up? Well, assuming that “don’t make one” isn’t a possibility, I would have preferred they follow more in One Piece’s footsteps. That adaptation wasn’t perfect either, and it condensed around 100 chapters of manga into 8 hours, but it really felt like it got the characters right. Avatar had a tough job too, but it condensed 7 hours 40 minutes of cartoon into 8 hours of- wait. No. Well at least we got the cabbage merchant.

This blog is going to be something new, so if you were expecting a HB or HH Critique, don't worry it's coming. Today I'm really going to criticize MHA and something I didn't like in My Hero Academia's War Arc that being, Midnight's Death.
The War Arc in MHA isn't the perfect Arc and in my opinion, isn't really my favorite arc either. There were stakes and potential in this arc that were erased later on such as Deku's arms, but there's one thing in this arc that I didn't like and that's Midnight's death.
Midnight isn't my favorite character, but I knew that she is a fan favorite and she's one of the teachers in UA High that has a lot of screen time. I believe she's only behind Aizawa and technically Toshinori Yagi (All Might), but you guys are all free to correct me on that. I read the manga and when I first saw Midnight die, legitimately I was mad and my anger honestly fueled up more once the manga continued. At first, I was mad that she died, but now I'm just mad that she had a pretty bad death and wasn't even mentioned later on. So I'm gonna start with what I don't like the most.
She died by random villains
Midnight died by some random ass villains that we never heard of and she was seemingly jumped by them as well. I know people die in wars and I know that you can't expect everyone to live, but come on. She's one of the more developed characters in MHA if you count Vigilantes and was in MHA since the beginning, yet you let her die by random villains that we don't even know the names of?
Tumblr media
With how powerful Class 1-A or Class 1-B is, I'm pretty sure that the stronger or even the at least average members of those classes are able to beat up those villains. I am aware that Midnight was injured, but her quirk literally allows people to fall asleep with the effect working stronger on men. And what gender were the villains that jumped her? All male. Yes two of them had a gas mask, but Midnight does have combat skills aside from her quirk.
Tumblr media
So that's one complaint, let's move onto another
Minor Characters have had better-written deaths than Midnight
For this argument, I'm just going to bring up one character that in all honesty had a better and more understandable death than Midnight and that character is Crust. Crust is the 6th highest-ranked hero in Japan and he died after saving Aizawa due to the speed of Shigaraki's decay quirk catching up to him.
Tumblr media
Now this death is pretty understandable as Shigaraki is one of the most powerful characters in MHA and his quirk is immediate death once it makes contact with you. So why am I comparing these two deaths? Well, Crust's death makes sense while Midnight's doesn't. She fell from a tall height and was also possibly crushed by the debris that Mr. Compress spawned and was injured as a result then she was jumped by some villains she most definitely could've defeated unless those villains are powerful too. That's fine and well until you realize that Izuku completely shattered his arms and was still able to fight, Bakugo was impaled and even tried to fight, and Mr. Compress had a chunk of his torso missing and still tried to fight.
Tumblr media
So why should her death make sense when there are characters that had more damage inflicted on them and survived? Crust's death made sense because he was disintegrated and his quirk couldn't counter Decay, meanwhile, Midnight was jumped while injured and possibly didn't even defeat the villains that jumped her. So onto my next complaint.
She was barely brought up after the war
Midnight was never really mentioned or even bought up after the War Arc which is honestly pretty disappointing. Midnight wasn't brought up again past the War Arc despite the fact that Aizawa was her best friend since their teenage years and Mina and Momo were her students she had a close bond with. I won't be elaborating further here because I'll go into manga spoilers. Onto my next complaint
Characters that should've died, didn't
Many other major characters in My Hero Academia who have suffered through fatal wounds and injuries that should've killed them, did not die. Yet Midnight who at most was injured by Mr. Compress was killed by being jumped by a bunch of villains that we don't even know. There are a couple of instances where characters should've died, but they didn't, and I'm gonna use the most popular instance. Bakugo was impaled by Shigaraki/AFO in multiple areas yet he was still alive and even tried to fight throughout the War Arc. There's no way that Shigaraki/AFO intentionally or unintentionally missed any vital organs that Bakugo was stabbed through, yet he survived and even had some energy left to fight.
Tumblr media
Gran Torino should've straight up died when Shigaraki plunged his fist into the old man's abdomen but it's revealed that he was alive and was injured. Ok wait, Gran Torino was able to survive getting impaled by Shigaraki but Sir Nighteye wasn't able to survive getting impaled by a sharp stone?
Tumblr media
Pixie Bob honestly should've died too when Shigaraki's decay wave caught up to them. Yeah, she can manipulate the Earth around her, but how can she manipulate something that's being disintegrated.
Tumblr media
Also, Gran Torino points out that even a small speck of the debris can disintegrate someone upon contact, it's wildly convenient that Pixie Bob wasn't even touched by the decaying debris.
Tumblr media
This can also extend to a certain villain, Mr. Compress who had a chunk of his torso missing and was knocked out by Mirio. However he didn't die despite the fact that a chunk of his torso missing, he likely lost a lot of blood, and he could've been in shock. So he really could've died in three separate ways, but he didn't.
Tumblr media
So remind me again why those characters didn't die, but Midnight did? Well, I have a reason why.
Killed for shock
Yeah, I believe Midnight was killed for shock value, similar to why Bakugo was presumed to be dead in that same arc, shock value. Midnight was inflicted wounds that other characters could survive, she wasn't brought up either by the students or Aizawa or Present Mic in the future, and she just died from characters we've never heard of.
I wouldn't have minded if Midnight died, but give us a long-term impactful and understandable death and not a short-term semi-impactful and BS death. Anyway, thank you all for reading this blog and I hope you all have a nice day! ❤️

Nanami's Return
Tumblr media
This is going to be an elaboration on my short list of characters who're going to come back in JJK.
My theory on Nanami's return is that Ino is going to use his Seance CT and replicate Granny Ogami's version of it to temporarily bring Nanami back to life.
Ino and Ogami have a similar CT
Tumblr media
On my first read through that detail had stuck out to me immediately. Ino channels the abilities of 4 Beasts (basically shikigami) in the same way that Sukuna channeled Max Elephant's water to use as his version of Piercing Blood.
Ino's CT is called Auspicious Beast Summoning and it's explicitly stated to be a seance technique. Upon seeing Ino use his CT, Ogami and her grandson talk about the "chances" of encountering another seance user.
We have seen that the usages of CTs can be switched up and copied from other sorcerers, Sukuna as I already said, does this by replicating how Ino uses his technique to get the same result as Kamo's CT. In the same vein, Yuki's Black Hole achieves the same pulling power as Gojo's Blue.
On top of that, Mahoraga doesn't differentiate between CT. His adaptation ability is solely concentrated on "phenomena" which was why adapting to Dismantle also made him adapt to Cleave and made him immune to Sukuna's Domain Kitchen. He would also be immune to any other CT that utilizes slashes.
So a cross-usage of CTs and them being inherently simialr in some aspects has already been shown in the story. What also has been shown is sorcerers like Mei Mei pushing their CT to unknown limits and acquiring new attacks and applications.
But I wouldn't write all of this with only these backdrops as a foundation for my theory.
Tumblr media
After Gojo had been unboxed, Shoko let Ino enter their room with the words: "Ino has something to say about Nanami." Ino enters and has his mask in his hand, the item he needs to perform his cursed technique.
What extactly would there be to say about Nanami? And with the mask in his hand no less? Nanami's story as we've seen in the last episode, is over. He died without regrets and there are no open threads left for him to untangle. At the airport he seemed content as well.
Now everyone could have their own interpretation of this scene but for me it's a setup for Nanami's eventual return. And yes, while Nanami himself doesn't have things left to do on earth, his presence would still be a moral boost for Yuji (and others) because I can feel it in my bones that that boy is going to suffer even more than he already did.
The only problem I see with my theory is the placing. Since the start I've been talking about how we only have 3 villains and a fuckton of good guys who have nothing to do except for getting heart attacks wile watching a screen.
My thoughts on this was that Kenjaku would recruit other sorcerers to his side so the others like Kirara, Kamo, Momo and everyone else on the lower tier list would get to fight and contribute to the struggle. Instead, Kenjauku was last seen hunting other sorcerers. And then there is the ending of the last chapter.
So for now, there is no space (and devastated Yuji) in the story where Ino would need to bring Nanami back. Nanami wouldn't even be needed right now with other living sorcreres better suited to fight. But if, eg, Kenjaku released all of his curses onto Japan or another horde of enemies appeared like after the merger, then I can see Ino pulling out this last trick he learned by watching someone else.

hello! heard your drafts were empty, here’s a suggestion!
personal nitpicks you have about the characterization of class 1B/or just the characters in itself in any aspect?
also more of an ask instead of a prompt, but how often/do you do more full length fics? haven’t fully looked through your backlog yet xp
- 🎭
Not proofread we die like men
My personal thoughts/nitpicks for each character.
Awase - Honestly I have nothing to nitpick about his character itself (other than his lack of style) but I dont like how the fandom doesn't acknowledge how hard he has worked to become a pro (he litterally almost died for momo during the summer camp attack)
Sen - i have nothing to nitpick exsept I wish we could see his love for photography a little bit in the show instead of just having horikoshi saying he likes photography yk
Kamakiri - i dont like how he doesnt have a cannon backstory or cannon reasoning for being as loud and brash as he is. Bakugou and Monoma have their reasons for being dicks so I wanna know his.
Kuroiro - i have nothing to nitpick because he is perfect. (Seriously tho, i love his design, character, personality and quirk and it all fits him so well. I just wish we could see more of him)
Kendo - im not sure what it is about her character but theres something there I dont really like. I cant tell what it is tho so I cant nitpick it rip. Its been bothering me since ive first started bnha.
Kodai - my only nit pick with her is I have a hard time writing for her sometimes but thats about it. Shes kinda boring and she has no hard set personality traits so i struggled to wrjte her in the past
Komori - the only thing I have to say for her is we dont see her as much as we should in the show but that could be said about all of class 1B.
Shiozaki - i actually didnt like her when I started this blog and was originally gonna exclude her from the blog because she made me uncomfortable but the more i have written for her the more she grew on me so now I dont mind her.
Shishida - hes kinda boring to me but I like the memes that make him seem like the class dog instead of just a student yk? I saw someone say hes scared of a hairdryer before lmao. Not rlly a nitpick but idc
Shoda - hes kinda basic to me all around. His cannon personality, likes, quirk, ect. Its all just kinda bland in comparison to most of the characters in the show (especially since this show prides itself on unique characters)
Pony - i dont like how she stabbed ojiro in season 5 or 6 I forgot which one. But yea thats about it. Shes pretty fun for me to write sometimes especially when I talk about her being American. But yea all i really have to nitpick is her stabbing ojiro
Tsubaraba - his quirk and personality is more on the unique side when it comes to this show (considering most of the side characters are the quiet/shy type.) But his design isnt anything special. The only way I can tell kosei apart from a random background character is his eyes. If his back is turned I have no idea who he is lmao
Tetsutetsu - in my heart those things around his eyes is a mask. I dont care that the author said they're eyelashes, its a mask. (Same thing with tokoyami having hair and not feathers...)
Tokage - shes cool and all but she is so fucking hard to write (especially since im trying to not dumb the characters down to one or two specific details) but her entire wiki is just 'emotional girl that likes dinosaurs, she kinda smart too' yk?
Manga - i love him and there is nothing to nitpick because he is perfect. He has one of the more unique personalities and quirks out of everyone in the show (in my opinion) and it fits him very well.
Honenuki - i dont like his design all that much. I like the mutation and his quirk is ok in my opinion but I dont like most other parts of his physical design.
Bondo - i like him but ive struggled to write for him a lot of the time because hes kinda boring and lacks any unique personality traits. Talking to him would be like talking to a wall but idc i live him anyways.
Monoma - his reasoning for being a dick to all of class 1-A is better than bakugous reason for being a dick but people excuse bakugous behavior but not monomas for some reason. Not really a nitpick on him but oh well.
Reiko - all I have to say about her is her personality is a little hard for me to write sometimes. Maybe because i dont know as much about her as I do some of the other students but she lacks emotion sometimes.
Rin - he is called the martial arts hero so where tf is the martial arts? I wanna see rin do martial arts in the way weve seen uraraka do martial arts but we dont get that >:( also there is so little content for him it actually drives me insane.
And to answer the fanfiction question-
I have yet to do any actual fanfiction simply because I dont think I would be good at it. I have creative ideas and i can put it into words until a certain point but I am unable to drag things out properly and put proper care into longer writings due to impatience and my lack of confidencein my longer writings. I might think about writing short oneshots for charachters in the future but for now I will stick with headcanons :P
Anyways my life is slowly being consumed by sun haven.

Hi. I dont watch nor read JJK but I ger the gist and some spoilers here and there. Not sure if you are up to everything it happened but you think JJK is being way dark? Ok this feels an incomplete question. JJK does promete itself as a dark shonen (its what I heard) my question is...isnt passing the mark?
Bc all I hear is characters dying left and right. Despair for others. And again, JJK is a dark story...it would be stupid of me to ask "hey why cant all get along" but as someone who lurks in others fandoms....
Isnt JJK being way too dark? Too hopeless?
Maybe this will be the story where the MC dies but sometimes it feels gratuitos how everyone is griefing and suffering and losing people they love.
I send this question in good faith. I dont watch the anime nor read the manga. It felt too dark for me. It reached a dark point to me to say no.
But this is my opinion.
Hi👋 @mikeellee
I definitely see where you're coming from and to be honest to me jjk has gotten a bit too much with killing characters left, right and centre at this point it feels like a cheap way to create and build up higher stakes and tensions.
I definitely think that gege akutami should at least build up the characters properly before killing them off and destroying them. We have so many characters that lack development whether dead or alive I believe they should of gotten better treatment by the narrative like tsumiki,Yuki, shoko, utahime, momo, uro, Hana, nobara, remi, higumara and a whole lot more. These are the characters that come to the top of my head when I think of wasted potential.
Jjk is a series that uses characters and their deaths to help other characters develop like junpei, haibara and riko where both plot devices of a character but they had their own mini character arcs and actually felt like proper characters who where supposed to be there and to their own things but just got their lives snatched from them too soon.
I kinda believe that jjk is a story that repeats itself to basically show the idea of how history repeats itself or rhymes so it has a whole lot of parallels and characters going through similar character arcs. However, the story has a big theme of showing the younger generation and older generation differences and one way it does it is by having the younger generation break the older generations cycle and actually succeed in their own way so Iam hoping that we get a bittersweet ending where the younger generation is able to break the cycle that was established but we still have a long way to go from there.
In my opinion jjk is definitely not the darkest shonen I have seen I think currently speaking chainsaw man or attack on titan takes the win for sure

Part1/part2/part3/part4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It feels like we haven't been here in forever" tyu said as you and the your classmates walked to the dorm building. "Wow this feels weird" you say adjusting you bay strap. You walked up to the blinding and opened the door for your class mates. They went it and you followed after they walked in
"There you are" mineta said as he ran up to your group "we we're all scared" the class said in a gamble of words of worry. "Here is a cake" sato said. One second later torū had you, tyu, and uraraka in a hug what was extremely tight, you were struggling to breathe this uraraka said "that bit tight i can't breathe"
Torū relaxed her arms around you. "Sorry" she mumbled "it is ok" you say patting he arm. You saw todoroki looking down st the floor. You slipped out of the mess and over to him "hey sho" you say
"Hello" he said "are you ok"
"I'm ok sho" you said as he pulled you in by th the waist and put his head on your shoulder "I was worried about you" he said as you put you arms around him "I'm going to bed rhe extra training starts tomorrow" he said before kissing you good night
"I love you" you said calmly before he said it back and walk to the Elevator to head to his dorm. You walked back over the the mess next to kirishima. Then iida jump in front of the group and yelled for them to stop. Iida then walked up to the group including you and yelled "do you have any idea how worried I was for you all if was horrible that if you died." Iida said shaking deku by the shoulders
"I'll go make some tea" momo said running to the kitchen. Sato tried to make dkeua dn kirishima eat some of the cake. Yiu said goodbye and good night to your classmates as you went to your dorm room to get some sleep.
Tumblr media
The next day it was announced that you had rhe school festive coming up. You sat in your seat as kirishima jumped up and objected out of safety but wa stood this was for everyone else.
"You must pick a organization and original program" aizawa said before passing out. Iida went to the front of rhe class to start a brainstorm section some of rhe things said out loud were. "Maid Cafe, mochi shop, arm wrestling, fun house, disco, hero quiz, frog song, petting zoo, soda stall" the soda was fro? Todoroki obviously "fight to the death, dark fest, twinkle extravaganza, a skit," yiu though in a "magic show"
So you had 20 options. A bunch got cute for beings to vague or inappropriate. The magic show was cut for being to vague. "Who said history presentation and study group" torū ask as iida and momo hid their faces.
Iida yelled "be quite" which did not work. Soon the ball went off. "We will pick by tonight" said kirishima.
Tumblr media
That night the other raid team members went to extra classes while yiu had finished them by not sleeping for a few nights. "Where is the raid team" ojiro asked as you walked from the elevator your hair tied up and you were waring pajamas pants and a sweater that was probably shoto's "they are working on extra classes" you said holding a cup of tea.
"What about you [lastname]" tokoyami asked
"I made up my classes already with midnight and mic" you said crossing your legs on the couch next to shoto. "So I was looking over the list and we have put stran on the other students so we should do something to lift there sprints." Iida said
"I agree" momo said "we are training to be heros she we must be aware of what we cause."
"So no food" iida said "what else could we do"
Sero said calmly "a zoo sounds smelly" yiu nodded in agreement
"a skit would be good" jiro said
Mina said "what about a dance party" at that todoroki stood up and walked to the computer with the list of ideas "a dance party would be fun"
He then pulled up a video of Rave and mineta said "I didn't expect that from todoroki, wait are you a raver"
"No I agree that it needs to be fun for the other courses. In order for that we should have some sort of entertainment, I got rhe idea from extra exam training" you mind pictured yiu stoic boyfriend and bakugou at and 80s themed dance party which made yiu laugh a bit.
"Interesting" iida said looking at the laptop with the video "singing an dancing."
Sero pipe in "we don't know how to dance and no one wants to see a crazy routine"
Mina yelled "I can teach yall"
"Hold on we need some amazing jams" mineta yelled. "Jiro can do that" torū said. Everyone's eye went to jiro and she looked shocked
"we can perform live" torū said as jiro said "music is just a hobby"
"Why not use to to make people smile" kota said as jiro looked shocked "after what yall said if I don't do it wouldn't be rocken."
Tumblr media
It was chosen to be a concert. now all was need was for roles to be picked. you walked out of the school building with mina and torū. you heard some of the gen ed kids talk about how the villain attacks and dorms were the hero classes fault. you just ignored them and kept walking to the 1-A dorms.
when you ot to the droms you and you class stated to talk about how you were going to do the concert. "we can do a club song" jiro said then she asked "does anyone play" everyone was silent till you said "I played the Clarinet in middle school."
jiro's head shot up and said "perfect"
then kaminari said "bakugou didn't you say do played the drum as a kid." bakugou looked pissed off and tried to walk away but the class asked to hear him play. so jiro got a drum set and got bakugou to play.
"bakugou has to be the drummer" mina said as the class looked in shock.
Bakugou turned and said "don't you get it we are trying to help the other classes but we caused the stress in the first place so we're just trying to make our selfs feel better"
"That is true did we think it thought" iid said to momo
"You didn't help us pick so you don't get a say" todoroki said to bakugou.
"If we're putting on a show we will have to kill them with the music" bakugou said in a oddly calm tone
"BAKUGOU" the a class cheered
"This is amazing" torū said jumping on jiro". "Yup" jiro said happily. "We'll do our best"
"Now we need the rest of the band" jiro said
"As a part of my classical education I learned how to play the piano" momo said
"Perfect" jiro said
Mina whined "I wanted the girls to get together for a dance number but I think we'll be ok with out momo and [yourname] and you'll be cute on stage"
"Base is my specialty so now we need gathers and vocals" jiro said
"So does that mean every one else will be dancing" ojiro asked
"I doubt this will be enough to get the Audience pumped up" iida said
"In the video I showed it ha-" todoroki was cut off by mina
"Special affects" mjna yelled.
"Yup" you said
"This is what we need" mina said showing a video of a rave "there are sparks and lights and streamers.
"We need and explosion of color" torū said
"We can have uraraka make todoroki and kirishima flout and have kirishima chop away at todorokis ice and have aoyama be a disco ba" mina said happily
"You want mwa to be a disco ball" aoyama said "well I was born do to this"
Then the other raid team members walked in to see the class talking about jobs "hey we're done making up classes" uraraka said looking exhausted
"I see" tyu said as yiu gave her the run down on the jobs
"Bakugou" Kirishima said "on the durms is a little odd"
"YOU GOT A PROBLEM" bakugou yelled at uraraka, tyu, and kirishima who all shock there heads
"Questions, who's singing" tyu asked jiro
"We haven't got that figured out yet" jiro said
"Don't it have to be you" uraraka asked
"I could do it" mineta said
"Just imagine the singing disco ball" aoyama said
"Guy I'm a good singer" Kirishima said
Jiro was handed a mic and sang an amazing piece with high and low notes that blew way you and your class. "Jiro that was amazing" you said as she finished the song
"Jiro is the singer" iida said
"Now guitars" jiro said as kaminari, mineta volunteered to play
"Don't try if you not going to kill it" Bakugou said as kaminari picked up and guitar and played a simple yet amazing song. Rhem tokoyami picked up a guitar and revealed he played for a while before getting stamped by the F cord.
Around 1:00am rhe roles were finalized with the dance, band, and affects teams. "Rest up team tomorrow we start the work iida said as everyone went to bed. You and shoto talk about your roles in rhe festival and you ended up falling asleep together in your dorm room.
Tumblr media
Over the next few weeks you worked on the song 'hero too' the main song of the show. You had just finished the 4 practice play though if the song when kirishima said eri was here. Ran out to see her she looked at yiu and said shyly "I recognize you with the [haircolor] hair"
"Hi eri I'm [yourname]" you said getting down to her level. She waved back as deku and togata took he on a school tour. The. Yiu continued working on the song
Tumblr media
Today was the day of the show. You got in to your band uniform. It was orange t-shirt with a jean mid lingth skirt that went to just over your knees. You were waiting for deku before going on stage. You and todoroki were standing together before the show started. As deku made it to the stage you ran out on stage before you ran out you kissed todoroki on the cheek. You grabbed your clarinet and the song started as bakugou yelled "our sound will kill you"
"Thanks for coming out today" jiro said as the song began. "We hope you enjoy" the beat dropped after a bit in the song. the gym it exploded with music and color. You moved one of your hands to make a bright amount of color with your quirk.
The first song ended as the next one started, yiu played 4 more songs or various levels of power. After the performance you went to the 1-B performance of there play.
After the shows and plays you helped move extra ice and equipment with your quirk making them float. After a while of cleaning up your got to explore the festival with shoto hand in hand
"Hey [nickname]" shoto asked
"Yes" you said Turing your head to him as you walked by the support course's work
"Let's get photos" he pointed to a photo booth. You agreed and stepped in. The fist few photos were simple and just hugs but for the last one he pulled you in for a kiss.
As you exited the booth yiu got the photos. Yiu looked at them and loved them. They were amazing. You saw shoto looking at them then pulling his phone out of it case and putting the photos in the case. He put the case back on and took your hand and continued walking around the festival
Tumblr media
This is part 4 of the series and I love it. This is the shortest of all the parts I think but I love it. Have a good day and night 🌙

Read the unofficial translated JJK 244 chapter because im procrastinating on homework, so thoughts below
Liked this chapter! It was wordy and explained some of the things we already knew or are kind of moot points, but I appreciate a chapter of characters interacting and being smart (ish) about what to do with sukuna and kenjaku. And the characters looked SO cute this chapter
Miwa’s comically big eyes are hilarious
Kamo is out of the picture, which makes sense. I’m not sure who else will be involved or leave. Despite what Kusakabe said about sending Miwa to her death alone if she goes first, her vow is limited to katanas, so I can see her using another weapon and joining the fight. Love kamo, but out of all the Kyoto kids, he’s always been the one I can 100% see leaving for family reasons, but I can see Miwa staying as a person who “thinks she doesn’t care about dying” or on the bench. Tbh I would rather have her deal with the aftermath of whatever Kenjaku had a backup plan for, since her revenge failed. It would be neat since she brought that up again this chapter. Do I know how she could help? No, but im not the writer so who cares
I do think everyone has been constantly underestimating Kenjaku at every turn in this series. Sukuna is such a presence and Kenjaku flies under the radar, so they make their death and the possible merger seem too simple
For the others, I can see Momo maybe leaving too, but if Miwa stays, I don’t think she’ll leave and she can be good for scouting like Mei Mei. Mei Mei is absolutely staying, same with Ui Ui, Choso, Shoko, Maki, Ino (imo). Not sure about Inumaki since I don’t know if he already did something with Yuuta. There’s no way panda could survive, but idk if he’d leave. I would say Hana would help, but somehow I feel like Angel could stop her, since she was the one that said Hana can’t fight. I don’t think they’ll leave unless Sukuna is dead (Angel) and Megumi gets help/dies (Hana) either way. NO clue about Kusakabe or Utahime joining any fight
Strange that I couldn’t find Utahime among people in this crowd too. Is this taking place around the start of the Gojo fight because it seems like it, so maybe she was preparing for that with Gakuganji and Gojo.
I’m still so stuck on the fact that Todo is completely gone for zero apparent reason. He doesn’t even use his technique on special grades, so even though he wouldn’t be much help here, he’s still incredibly strong and with his personality, its weird he’s not butting into these conversations. I just want to know the excuse that gege ends up giving for this. If it’s because he’s now besties with Nobara and they’re training together, all will be forgiven ✨
OKAY SO. Kamo and Choso training yuuji! Good chance that this is going with the implication that yuuji ate his brothers and got some blood manipulation from it. I already thought this was the likely case, although I also think Yuuji has a thing with souls (whether that’s related to that scene that made it seem like he switched bodies with kusakabe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
Choso’s face when Yuuji said he was a bad teacher was adorable. One of the issues with these flashbacks after a time skip is that I wish we had more of these natural character moments, but it’s instead all plot-relevant to the scene it’s flashing forward to.
I’ve talked about this before, but I like the idea that if yuuji is getting a power up, then it’s as a result of his treatment as a vessel/cage that he can then turn on the people that have mistreated him. Hope im phrasing this right, but that would be more meaningful than suddenly becoming as strong as sukuna with his powers.
Continuing with that, I don’t think Yuuji just becoming Gojo’s successor in matching in strength like Yuuta is the way this is going, or would be a good way to go. I like the idea that he has to be smart about this fight and it’ll likely involve something with the soul. Having overwhelming power does get boring sometimes and it can lead to fights like the Sukuna and Gojo having to work around explaining how an overpowered character loses a battle of strength. This fight already has more strategy and stakes, which is a plus
Even outside of that, pure strength is not everything and Gojo has always represented that. While his desire to raise allies and those with potential to surpass him is nice, that’s not some perfect solution and doesn’t really change things. It’s very in character for Gojo, but I hope this series does more than just ending it with the villains gone and all the main characters in power and overpowered, while nothing actually gets addressed (if this makes sense lol). It kind of reminds me of when Gojo told Gakuganji things would be better if he ran the circle of higher ups, like nice sentiment but a small and ineffective bandaid onto these bigger problems. It’s why I like Yuki a little more of Maki’s destruction of her clan. I’m just rambling at this point, but yeah im just interested in seeing how this story resolves its themes—with the younger generation and whatnot—and if it’ll lean into tragedy or hope (or will be more generic “yay defeated the villains so who cares about everything else!” Ending).
However, power ups can coincide with or represent character development, like with Gojo and Maki’s enlightenment. It’s just not necessary to be a good character and I’ll always be a fan of how “weak” Yuuji has been in comparison over this series no matter where his character ends up.
Good on Yuuji for being the one to introduce the retrial!! And I just love Higuruma and watching him go on these lawyer tangents while Yuuji and Miwa and listening, but confused.
Sukuna being stuck in court on trial for the devastation he’s brought is genuinely one of the funniest sights to see in all of JJK. And in his original form
I need this trial to lead into sukuna backstory and Heian era flashbacks. Only asking gege for this and nobara,, please

18, 20, 22, 29 for fic writers ask!!! Good luck with the final push 🥰
Fanfic asks
Thanks canariie!! <3
18.What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
This one comes from To Give You Shelter, and once again, the line is in bold and I've included other lines to give it more context:
“I’m sorry I’m this late,” she says, “rebuilding the Soul Society has taken priority. Nashi aren’t in season right now, but I hope it’s still sweet enough.” She eyes the array of flowers, and her smile widens a fraction. “It looks like the others came before, it must have been on their breaks. They’ve been working really hard lately, we all have.” The corners of her mouth fall. At the slight waver in her voice, she presses her lips together and takes in a deep breath. “We have a lot to do,” she continues more quietly, “much more than I think any of us realized.”
I love fics that as set right after the war, where everyone is picking up the pieces both physically and emotionally. I've writtne a few fics now about this, but To Give You Shelter is one that I've been wanting to write for a very long time. I wanted to write a moment where Momo goes to visit the grave of someone who died in the war, and it's only then she realises it's taken her so long - due to the reconstruction and having to comfort and help those who survived - to come and finally pay her respects. She knew there would be a lot to do, but it hits just how much she has had to to do, how many all of them have had to do. I felt I was able to capture that in this line.
20.What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written?
When the Souls Sleep and the World is Our Own. I'm not really a fan of most title I come up with to be honest. This one I feel though encapsulated what I was going for with the fic. It's the longest title I've written to now that I think about it.
22.Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?
It honestly depends, because sometimes the ending is the first part that comes to me, and other times it's the last thing. For the latter, I can definitely struggle with the ending. I know where I want a fic to go generally, but then comes the ending and I want to make sure I'm able to wrap up all (or at least most of) what I brought up throughout the fic. There's also times where I wonder when I should stop. There's been fics where I've written a long scene of the end, that just keeps going and going because I've suddenly discovered something I can to explore, but then I stop and realise I'm more or less rambling on and on, so I cut it down to a point that seems conclusive or definitive.
My most recent struggle was with On the Shoreline, where I just couldn't write the whole resolution at the end. I wanted Toshiro to fess up everything he's feeling all in one go, but it was a scene that required him to draw things out because of the weight of what he was feeling, and I also didn't know whether to stop with him leading Momo away from the beach or them about to go eat something or with them meeting up with the others who came on the trip with them. I did end up writing up to the latter, it ultimately got cut (and may or may not make an appearance in a fic later on down the line) and went with them about to eat, showing he's finally about to go enjoy the break with Momo.
29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic. (If you don’t have either, just share a random fic idea you have that you don’t plan on getting to.)
All right, an abandoned WIP it is. The working titles were...something: A Snake Coiled Around a Cat's Tail, This was written for prompts I got from @alexiethymia for Ginran a while ago (this is the fic I went with in the end). Basically, I was going to write a fic about the last time Gin and Rangiku had a proper interaction before before all hell breaks loose in the Soul Society when Ichigo and co. come to save Rukia. I also wanted to incorporate the little known fact that Rangiku knows how to do 'classical dancing' and has a special kimono for it to perform in according to Color BLEACH Plus. what this means is vague, but I took it to mean something similar to what Rukia was doing in the new year's episode or the dances that maiko or geisha can perform. In relation to this, I also have the headcanon that Rangiku doesn't often show off her dancing, so only a few people have seen her perform; one of those people is Gin.
However, I went from wanting to write one scene to Gin's progression towards leaving Rangiku, where we start off in their childhood after he gets the Shinigami robes, and ends in when he arrives Hueco Mundo just after his betrayal has been revealed.
I abandoned it because it became far too ambitious and I wasn't up for it at the time. I also wasn't 100% confident in my ability to write Gin; it can be a slippery slope where he has to be just cold enough to be Gin, but also show a softer side to Rangiku in his own 'Gin' way. I may pick it up again one day, but only if I get the right inspiration to write it.
Anyhow, the section I've chosen was what the original fic was going to be; it takes place a few days before Rukia gets brought back to the Soul Society, where Gin [knowing his time with her is coming to an end] asks Rangiku out for an evening in the Rukongai. The whole night is almost a nonevent, in that Rangiku still can't understand why Gin has been distancing himself for decades. At the end, they walk back to the Seireitei and arrive outside of Gin's quarters, where this happens:
“Don’t leave just yet,” he says. “I have a request.”
Rangiku blinks; she can’t even remember the last time he asked anything of her. “What is it?”
Rather than be amused by her confusion, he steps aside and gestures for her to come in. She knows how she must look. The right thing to do would be to refuse, it’d serve him right for deliberately putting distance between them. She even turns her ankle to go, but it’s quick to betray her, to step her foot into his room, and then the other follows. Rangiku folds her arms tight over her torso, trying to shove down the thrum of childish excitement. He’s letting her in on something for the first time in years.
When he closes the door, something changes in his smile, making it smaller. It plummets her elation to anxiety.
He doesn’t move from the door as he says, “Dance for me?”
“W-What?”
“It’s been a while since I last saw you dance.”
Rangiku raises a brow. “Since when did you like seeing me dance?”
“I always have.”
“Well, you never said anything!” She sighs. “Besides, I don’t have a fan, I’m not wearing the kimono I need, and there's no music.”
Gin considers for a moment, then he moves away from the door. He walks past her, the sleeve of his uniform brushing past hers. It's the closest he's gotten to her all night, she can even smell the faint traces of persimmons off of him. She's caught up in for a moment, and the buzz she felt before almost comes back, until she hears a drawer being opened.
She spins around, watching Gin as he rummages through a small desk, until he pulls something out and turns back to her.
He holds out a fan to her. “Then pretend the rest. Treat it as if it you’re practicing.”
She frowns down at the fan. “Why now?”
He shrugs. "I'm feeling nostalgic, I suppose."
Thanks for sending these in! :D

yozakura family and all the depictions of love just makes me so [kneels on the floor, head bowed] theyre so delightful to me. taiyo's entire arc being one that had lost his family and had discovered a new one who promised him that they won't leave him, that they wont just protect him, that they let him protect them. they trust him as their equal, and for him that need to protect was fulfilled from his 'failure' when his first family died. these siblings consider taiyo their family too; not just the separate entity of 'mutsumi's husband' but as brother, friend, family. he has integrated himself in their bond too! i like that his entire point is that everyone unanimously agrees he's a yozakura sibling too, even in the later chapters where people refer to him and his siblings. that when facing off ryu, he doesn't distinguish fake and real family, they just are his (and he too is theirs). he's just so consumed with the love and devotion that the family also has for each other.
now to get rambly about everything else about the siblings and how they love and how it kills me dead. time and time again they emphasize that the yozakura family loves each other. there's no other kind of bond for them, seemingly, but i'll think about that another time.
kyoichirou was created in the image to be perfect and it's part of his symbolism & design with the gloves that he never takes off. he's sentimental. he loves, deeply, he is made of it. he's an eldest sibling to his core and it physically hurts me how much he never tries to hide it / how much he cares. when the crux of his character is to be strong to protect others (taiyo's narrative foil and/or parallel) how can i not like him? he's atlas with the world on his shoulders, but where atlas carries it with punishment, kyoichirou would do it without hesitation if it means that his siblings are still there in the world. that we also very rarely ever saw him without his gloves, that he reached out without them towards kai and the twins and towards his father also just speaks to me so much. the connections that he wants to make as he fully sinks into his feelings.
over all i think the way the family dynamics/structure in the family is amusing though. momo and rei were out by the time (as characteristic of the family) they were independent, so it makes sense that they still act not just as siblings but as friends and colleagues. all of them love each other and that's what makes them strong, of course.
futaba is not just their eldest sister, but the closest thing to a mother they all had after rei. mutsumi is treated as the rightful matriarch, but clearly she still defers to futaba when needed. she says it herself that she raised the rest of the siblings, and she acts like a fussy aunt whenever she's flustered enough into acting a bit more irrationally.
i also find it interesting that nanao being the youngest is also their prodigy. he acts a little more mature than his siblings, but he's also a kid that they all baby and he lets them. that their specialties are also exemplifying how they care also sends me

Bakugou, Todoroki, Uraraka and Iida representing different sides of hero society
In previous posts I wrote how Uraraka, Todoroki, Bakugou and Iida are the main four characters who revolve around Deku and learn from him how to be better heroes. Everyone then in MHA is connected through them, and these connections spread the ideal of being a hero that All Might has... without the negative solitude of it, because the class support each other`s. This can be depicted both as supporting each others, or the idea of imitating the people you admire:
Tumblr media
Some of these connections (in this picture) are, for example: The connection between Todoroki and Momo, where Todoroki reminded Momo of how to trust herself and her own judgement; Bakugou supporting Kirishima (seen in flashback during his hero debut); Mina being inspired by Kirishima's unbreakable; Shinsou being inspired by Deku etc. A line is a way a character inspires another.
Iida, Uraraka, Todoroki and Bakugou are the closer ones and the ones that revolve around Deku the most, especially the last three.
We have Iida, who wanted to get revenge, and learnt from Deku that revenge is not the correct pathway, but also that doing things together, supporting each other's is the correct way to be a hero. We see it how he learns the lesson during Stain, and then applies it during Kamino and to get Deku back after his Dark Deku period. Accepting and giving help, realizing that any vigilante solo revenge arc is not what it means to be a hero.
Tumblr media
We have Todoroki, who had lost all interest in being a hero and only wanted to be at UA to make his father angry, which led him to never really embrace his own quirk.
Deku teaches him to embrace his fire quirk, and reminds him why he really wanted to be a hero and how he used to admire All Might too. Todoroki then applies this to Iida for example (reminding him what it means to be a hero). Todoroki is another character who had been on a solo path - not there to make friends, and ends up understanding Deku's way of being a hero.

We also have Bakugou, who saw being a hero as a pure winning idea, something that is there to make sure he is better than anyone else and the number one, extreme winning, not to mention his harsh behaviour towards others. Deku shows him that saving is as much a part of being a hero as winning, both demonstrating that these two sides are fundamental. We then see Bakugou applying this during the class 1a vs b training (not only saving but accepting to be saved) and later on during the war. Bakugou is the one doing the ultimate savings: he sacrifices himself to save Deku, he saves Deku again during Dark Deku - and the ones who ultimately becomes someone is often saved by Deku.

And then Uraraka, who is introduced as a carefree girl, someone who takes things a bit lightly. She wants to help her parents and for her being a hero is a job that allows her to do that. During the Sport Festival she sees Deku's determination and realizes she also wants to take being a hero seriously (even if she did take it quite seriously during USJ and the villains attack, but I feel it is because Horikoshi wrote her a bit inconsistently). This arc continues up till Nighteye dies. Uraraka sees, again, Deku almost dying to save Eri and defeat Overhaul, and she realizes she wants to save people, leading to fully embracing her serious role as a hero. And we see this applied mainly to Toga.
Tumblr media
It is interesting also to see how Uraraka (during Dark Deku) remembers refusing to save Bakugou like a mistake - she was still allowing the structures of a job to define what it means to be a hero. She thought Bakugou would want to be strong alone - she was wrong, she understands that none of them need to be strong alone, they can all be saved by each others.

Now, I do not think this has been intentionally written, but I like to imagine that these four characters are four bad sides of hero society. All Might is also another of these sides.
We have Uraraka, the hero who considers being a hero just a job.
Then Bakugou who, similarly to Endeavor, sees being a hero as a way to be number one in the rankings, so only for success.
Then we have Todoroki who doesn't even care about being a hero, and is not fully accepting of his own quirk so is not able to give all of himself.
And Iida, who decided that his path as a hero would be personal revenge.
I like to see how these represent all problems in hero society. Heroes who see hero-ing just as a job, heroes who are not able to give all of themselves and are where they are because of family/inheritance reasons, heroes who only care for the rankings and heroes who are selfishly looking for their own revenge. And Deku, by being their friends, "healed" these sides of hero society.
Another main problem of hero society is how heroes act alone, how the number one (All Might) takes the whole pressure of society on his shoulders. We see this, of course, as All Might, leading to the problems of society that ended up with people not really seeing heroes as humans, and fully trusting that one hero to protect them... leading them to not doing anything to protect others. This also is inherited by Endeavor. We see how being the number one is not being part of a group of heroes (from the public's eyes) but being the symbol.
Working alone, being a symbol, is also another sides of hero society that Deku heals by showing All Might that he is not alone. He is there to be All Might's successor, but also to show him that he can live (even if Nighteye's prophecy exists) and just live for himself and for the people around him, not as a symbol, but as a human being. This flaw is also present in Deku, and we see how it increases through time, the more he masters OFA the more alone he is.
For example, at the beginning, in USJ, we have Deku creating a plan to face the villains with Mineta and Tsuyu, then in the forest he is working with Shoji, Tokoyami and others. In Kamino he is working with Iida, Momo, Todoroki and Kirishima and even leaves Kirishima to grab Bakugou's hand. During Overhaul we see, for the first time, that Deku starts to end up facing villains alone. The group ends up separated, and but after Mirio's loss of quirk and Nighteye injury, Deku (and Eri) are left to face Overhaul alone, no one else able to keep up with him.
After Overhaul, Deku faces Gentle Criminal and La Brava alone too (even if as villains they do not compare to the previous ones in murderous intent). After this fight, we have the next villain fight being the war arc. And here for the first time we have this problem explicitly underlined. Deku is unlocking quirks, he is trying to save everyone while fighting alone, so much that even Bakugou tells him that he should stop trying to do this alone. He doesn't win, but instead of realizing that he should accept everyone's help, he embraces All Might's biggest flaw and decide to work with him and the heroes to act as bait and lonely hero.
Tumblr media
In this case, it is the class that Deku has previously inspired that is here to fix this flaw of hero society, this flaw that Deku has. I also think this is why it is so important for the story that Deku does not fight alone at the end, to avoid making the whole character and arc development useless.
