kataang is fun cos it’s the ancient spirit of good who’s been incarnated over and over to fight evil as it rises since before the continents were set + a small town girl with issues, and it’s the small town girl who goes “who hurt you 😡”

it’s so dumb when ppl say this. the whole reason Aang doesn’t wish to kill Ozai is because it would violate a sacred tenet of his culture and people’s beliefs, and that exists solely through him.

the other avatars had a luxury of never having to worry specifically about their own actions reflecting upon an entire culture and people.

avatar Yangchen herself had this same luxury. she was the last air nomad avatar before Aang, and she spoke about how it was necessary to sacrifice someone’s own spiritual needs to protect the world—only one problem; the spiritual need of Aang is intrinsically tied to the conflict he has to resolve. that was never the case for a previous Avatar. Yangchen was willing to give up her people’s spirituality to kill if necessary, and that was because there were other air nomads. Aang himself was willing to kill Ozai; he had practically resigned himself to that (reluctantly), until he asked the lion turtle for advice. Which was why the lion turtle showed him energy bending, because by continuing to ask for another option, he showed he had an unbendable spirit and thus could perform it without destroying himself. Which is something no previous avatar had ever done.
