That was what he said while you were in the middle of discussing a project with him, the sudden proposal shocked you of course but after mulling it for a week you decided to agree with his proposal, you weren’t expecting a ring but he did give you one, surprisingly it first your ring finger perfectly

You know very well that love is out of the equation in this future marriage of yours, Veritas never seemed to be interested in pursuing love and you respected that but now it seems like you’ve been craving more than you signed up for, it’s started when he first asks you to live with him, it was shocking of course but you’re going to be his wife anyways so why not start early to assimilate to the new environment and dynamic

Things start to go downhill from there since he does these little things. For example, all of the cutlery, knives, plates, and spices were high up on the shelves when you first moved in. He noticed that you struggled grabbing simple things from the shelves, hence he redesigned his whole kitchen to make things more accessible to you

Well the other thing that made you develop feelings for him is your sleeping arrangements, he made you a room inside of his house fully furnished with your favourite books and even your own office inside, the room is hand painted beautifully with your favourite colour when you ask who decorated the room he bashfully replied that all of the things inside your room is fully constructed and decorated by him, is this a loveless marriage you keep pondering over and over as you lay your restless body on the couch

Veritas promised you that he would come home early today to help you with your dissertation, but it seems he’ll be late again. You can’t help but wonder if he has someone out there, but it can’t be he told you himself he would be loyal to you, but you can’t seem to dismiss such a thought

You knew what you signed up for but you still can’t help but fall for him, how naive. Your eyes crystallised as you tried to conceal your feelings, the warmth of your cardigan couldn’t help to warm the loneliness you’ve been feeling, if Veritas was here he would laugh at you, you thought to yourself

You fell asleep on the couch, tired from the stress of your upcoming dissertation. It seems that when you’re already blissfully unaware of the real dimension Veritas comes home. He calls your name to no avail only to see you sleeping soundly on the couch, your cheeks wet from the tears you shed, it tugs a string on his chest as he examines you curled up all by yourself to produce some kind of warmth

Without much thought he quickly took off his coat and put his briefcase on the coffee table in front of you, he sat beside your head before slowly lifting it and resting it upon his thighs. He had always hated to admit his feelings towards you, he thought it was a weakness for him to have, but he has always liked you

He finds it hard to express himself and find it harder to acknowledge that he wants more than this loveless marriage, he was too afraid that you’re not keen towards the idea of loving someone with his track record, and he certainly does not have the best qualities to possess as a husband, yet he would try to become better to make you happy

But it seems he fails to do so, he silently gazes upon your expression, his thumb wipes away the tear stain of your soft skin, he can’t help but question himself, if you wake up would you hate him for this ?

He quietly sighs as he drags his coat and covers your body with it, his hand brushes through your hair softly while grabbing your dissertation off the table, he feels worse than before seeing that you prepared a hot drink and snacks for him before you accidentally fell asleep

So the least that he could do is to let you rest while he reads the contents of your dissertation, your hair feels soft so soft that he can’t seem to focus on your dissertation without petting it

Reading your dissertation is like reading what’s inside of your captivating mind he loves so much, he can’t help but feel lucky that you’ll have his last name soon, that he could flaunt you as a partner as someone equal in future events because he truly thinks that you are his other half

You both have disagreements on certain things yet somehow complement each other so beautifully that he can’t help but feel like he was made to be yours, feeling your skin against his palm as he cups your cheek further proves his hypothesis that his hands are made to hold you, love you, worship you

But his foolish ego seems to restrict him from such necessities, his inability to profess his love verbally would cost him you sooner or later, he just hopes that you could feel how he cares

He never explicitly told you about his adoration for you, yet he’s willing to show you instead hoping one day you’ll see how badly he has fallen for you

He kept lightly tracing your cheeks as he continued to read your dissertation, that’s when you flutter your eyes open, feeling ticklish from the light touch, “Veritas ?,

“Yes dearest ?,” once your eyes meet with his, he knows very well that’s the moment the walls he built and the ego he has dissipate into thin air

I'm an A-Level student and so many of my classmates use ChatGPT for essays in Law and RS and stuff - like, they sound proud of themselves, as if they're cheating the system and being clever? Just makes me feel very bleak. What are we doing man

Well, the unfortunate news for them is that they are going to struggle if they make it to uni.

This is the big problem with AI - it cannot analyse a single thing. If I were to say to you "What are the features Tumblr users would most want and why?", you are a human being with a brain and experiences and decision-making skills, and you could probably sit and come up with an answer. You would base that answer on things you personally find lacking, or want to see; you would also base it in things you have seen others bemoaning on the site.

For example, I reckon I'd say something like:

The permanent ability to boop people with a cat paw, which is implemented as opt-in. Also customisable, so you can choose whether you want a random cat paw to appear on your screen each time it happens to you. Also a different animation for super boop/evil boop, and maybe more boop options than those two, and maybe also different paw colours.

Actual enforcement of hate speech rules. We all agree to them when we join, so it's perfectly legal to delete someone for spouting Nazi shit AND YET.

No more banning or censoring queer folks' accounts

More ability to adjust the interface for disabled bloggers, e.g. colour and contrast, font, layout, switching off moving GIFs or other animations by default, etc.

Tag editing, it's frustrating having to delete whole tags.

Tag memory! Where have my tags gone??? For a year now I have slightly better luck on desktop, but for the most part, which of my tags are remembered by autofill and which are never, ever offered to me has been wholly divorced from how often I've used them. And my tags are often lengthy and odd, so it's become much harder to use mobile.

No data scraping. This is the anti-cap site thank you. Also on that note, get rid of the For You section and any other algorithmic tracking, because it's just as likely to show you a Nazi blog as an anti-Nazi one as long as you have spent any time at all discussing Nazism.

Better blocking ability, on that note.

I could go on, but you get the idea. That's analysis that I've done, based on discussions I have seen and taken part in, and my own experiences.

I just asked ChatGPT. Here's what it had to say:

It's possible that feels alright, on first glance. But take a closer look.

Every point made is vague, and disconnected from any real life examples. In the very first point, it thinks we want better search functions (yes!) but also more algorithmic recommendations (no!). It wants us to have personalised recommendations AND better security, in fact, which are incompatible - but an LLM doesn't and can't know that. Monetisation of the platform is something that has historically faced appalling backlash from users, and this thing is suggesting ad revenue sharing and subscription services.

Because, its suggestions are generic suggestions. These are not Tumblr-specific. No mention of queerphobia, no mention of Nazis, and absolutely zero understanding of what the specific users on this site actually want.

... all of which is to say...

It's what is academically known as descriptive work. It lays out some facts, but there's no depth, no analysis, no interpretation of those facts at all. Why would we want third party integration? What apps are we calling for? Give examples. Would that aid ad-blocking? Search functions? In that case, wouldn't third-party integration be tackling the symptoms and not the cause? Shouldn't we work better ad-blocking and search functions into Tumblr at a base level?

And in school - even up to A Level - that's okay. You won't get top marks for that, because it's all too vague and too descriptive, but it's fine. School-level assignments tend to be more broad and less applied, too, which LLMs fare better with.

But in university, you start with descriptive facts, and then you are expected to analyse. If you cannot analyse, you run a very real risk of failing. Which means if you've spent your GCSEs and A Levels not bothering to learn those analytical skills and letting ChatGPT do the work for you, you are going to face an extremely uphill struggle when the expectations of study increase.

So, to round off, try not to get too discouraged. You know you aren't doing it, which means you are the one actually learning and developing and growing. Others will learn eventually, and probably more painfully. You do you!

His parents sudden deaths meant that he'd rose to the throne to continue ruling his kingdom. You pitied your friend predicament, with becoming a King comes a huge responsibility.

"Poor Vic.. he must be overwhelmed and under so much pressured right now.." You muttered while looking at the scenery outside the window.

"We've arrived, your highness"

The coachman opens the carriage door and stepped aside for you to descend before bowing.You thanked him and made your way inside the palace, it's usual powerful aura felt gloomy with the loss of the King and Queen.

"[Name], how kind of you to pay me a visit"

You heard Victor's voice from behind you.Turning around you enveloped the taller man in a hug, catching by surprise. He recovered immediately and reciprocate it albeit a bit too tightly for comfort.

"Vic! I was looking for you.. and of course I would, the King and Queen are like a family to me. Also, I wanted to be there for you in this rough time"

Victor felt his face burning up at your words, oh if only you knew he was the one behind his parents deaths. You wouldn't be comforting him like you are now.

"I'm glad to hear that, [Name]. We consider you as one too"

After all, you would be part of his bloodline soon once you are wed to him after the period of mourning is over.

For now he'll just have to play up the act of grieving for his parent's deaths.

Hi, I don’t rlly know how to explain this but I’ll try haha.

I recently found out I have Egyptian and specifically Coptic ancestry, through family tree making, matching with cousins, gedmatch, dna testing, etc and now personal confirmation from family/ancestors.

The problem is idrk who was the Coptic ones in my family as my dad died when I was four and I’ve had no contact with his family at all since. I know it came from his mother, but I can’t even give you her name let alone where she was from, or anything. Although I want to learn more and reconnect and eventually find out who they were exactly. It’s just hard because my dad’s living family has no contact w us and since he’s dead, it’s been hard to get records as well.

I would like to learn more about Coptic culture and Egypt in general but I am worried about people considering me a ‘culture thief’ since I only recently. found this out a few months ago but didn’t really have 100% confirmation until like 2 weeks ago. And even though I can prove genetically I have ancestry Coptic I can’t really say who my ancestors were which would probably make some skeptical.

Especially because I am African American and there already exists a rift between Egyptians and AAs bc of hoteps who claim Egyptian culture/claim Egyptians are just Arabs who ‘stole’ Egyptian culture. I want to be respectful but I’m unsure how to navigate this.

I guess I’m asking if you have any idea how I should move forward, or if you know of any resources to learn more? I want to be respectful, but I would also love to start to reconnect even if I don’t know where my ancestors were exactly from other than ‘Egypt’.

Hello! First of all, this is both a very respectful and a very personal ask, so I want to thank you for trusting me with that. I hope my answer can help you find peace with the matter a little.

Instead of trying to figure out if the overall sentiment of trying to reconnect is harmful or not, because there's really no answer to that in and of itself, and instead stop at every individual action taken to reconnect and asking: could this be harming anybody?

For example, if you'd like to pick up Coptic language lessons, could this action possibly be harmful to anyone? Not really. Is reading about Coptic culture and engaging with what survived of it in modern day harmful? I don't think so.

The only possible thing that I can think of that might be harmful is, I have awful experiences with certain diaspora Copts who have never really engaged with the community nor know much of it, who suddenly butt in conversations about Coptic politics in Egypt like they're an expert on it despite never having been or known anything about it themselves, but from the way you've written this ask I doubt you're the kind of person to do that anyway, seeing as you're being very respectful and that you recognize that there's some dissonance in your experience (which there's no shame in, but the self awareness is helpful as a guide of when to participate and when not to!)

I don't know if I said this before on this blog but, to my knowledge, the matter of the hotep subculture entails far more than just questioning the Egyptian identity, and seeing as I'm neither African American nor Black at all, I don't think it's my place to comment on it. I invite any of my Black followers to contribue to intra-community discussion in the reblogs/comments for you to read, though!

All I can promise you is that even if the notion that the population of Egypt was displaced rather than converted during the Arab conquest of Egypt is false, there still are Black Egyptians and there always have been. Sadly I'm sure there will always be people who try to make you feel like a pretender, but that is true of so many things and regardless of what you do, so always remember thay Black people have always been part of Egypt's history, and that nobody is entitled to know your personal details or family history and you don't need to disclose anything you're not comfortable with to prove anything to them.

As for resources, there's always a lot on Egyptology in general, so the specific topics that would be helpful to be aware of are: modern history of Copts (or Copts post the Arab Conquest of Egypt), the persecution of Copts, the decline of the Coptic language and the efforts to revive the language. The last two are especially pertinent nowadays.

Lastly you can always ask other Copts! I may not have all the answers but I'm sure between me and my followers we can find something helpful for you if you're trying to find a specific resource of have more questions. (The scarcity of resources is something we *all* have to deal with, even us here in Egypt, I'm afraid, but it's not a lost cause! You'd be surprised how much is out there on internet archives.)

Beck had been overly cautious every time he went hunting. He had to be, as a stupid little runt without anyone to protect him.

He had crawled out of his grave and into the clutches of a woman he barely recognised, only to immediately be discarded once she realised he couldn't use magic. He had begged her to leave him alive at least, promising to stay out of her way and go 'hunt' on someone else's territory; not his proudest moment, but then again, he had little to be proud of lately.

He hunted as best as he could, picking off lone passerby and muffling their cries as he drank his fill, too frantic and hungry to really care about causing pain. Then he disappeared for days, sometimes weeks, terrified of drawing attention to himself. And the cycle would repeat.

Until one day, he slipped up and chose the wrong target.

Beck had never seen a hunter before, especially not so up close and personal — and now that they were straddling his waist and putting a stake to his heart, he decided he didn't fucking like them. He had his hands up on either side of his head without having to be told, completely still in an attempt to appease the hunter who had caught him.

"You're the runt," they stated, not even a hint of doubt in their voice, but Beck nodded anyway.

"Yes, sir," he breathed, very aware of the sharp point digging into his chest whenever he dared inhale.

The title wasn't a conscious choice, really. He'd had to talk his way out of quite a few confrontations before, and if there was one thing he'd learned throughout all of it, it was that manners never hurt.

The hunter looked amused, leaning down a little and inadvertently placing more of their weight on the stake. Beck tensed under them, squeezing his eyes shut in anticipation of his inevitable demise. "Sir? Have I gotten myself a polite little leech?"

"I can be very polite so long as I'm alive, sir," he said hastily, and they chuckled.

"Alive... as if. Don't flatter yourself. I've seen corpses that looked better than you."

Beck pressed himself even more against the ground. "You're right, sir," he squeaked. "You're right. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

"Hey, listen." They clicked their tongue at him, like one would to get a pet's attention, and he reluctantly opened his eyes again. "I've got a deal for you."

"A... a deal?"

Was this common? He had nothing to compare this to. Were all hunters like this?

"Only because you're so well-behaved." They pressed down on the stake a little, as a gentle reminder for Beck to keep behaving, and he was suddenly very eager to nod along. "You see, runts are pretty rare. And regular vampires... they can't really be kept. It's a one and done deal, I come in, I stake them, I get my money."

That was simple enough. Terrifying, but simple. But also– "K-kept?"

"Kept," they repeated, grin widening. "Like a dog."

Beck swallowed. He had a feeling of where this was going, and he did not like the implications. "I... I see."

"And while I'm pretty successful, as far as hunters go... This is a dangerous job. I could use a buffer."

"No," he said timidly. "Please, I can't do anything, I can't– I can barely hunt, I'm starving half the time–"

"I could do with bait, too," they interrupted, shushing Beck when they saw him open his mouth to protest. "And of course, because I deal fairly, I'd let you have some blood in exchange. Can't have a pet without feeding it."

That... That made the offer sound much better, all of a sudden. He hadn't had anything to drink in at least a week, getting by on whatever dead animal he could find in the parks at night. Drinking from roadkill. His mouth was watering at the mere thought of human blood, even though the hunter hadn't yet specified what they'd be feeding him.

"Mmm, what is it? Interested?" they taunted, and Beck couldn't resist nodding a little. He wanted someone to protect him so badly; apparently even if they were a hunter.

"What... what do I need to do, sir?" he asked as respectfully as he possibly could, already wincing when the hunter pulled out a collar from their coat pocket and threw it into his hand.

"First things first, put that on. We'll discuss the rest on the way home."

Enemies to lovers with EJ

Being enemies with Ej is very stressful, but in a quiet way

You won't have explosive fights, you won't sabotage each other, you won't do things most enemies do

Ej is a very silent, reserved person, and this applies to people he doesn't like as well

But the way his lip twitches in disgust when he looks at you, or the way he gets ever so slightly more protective of his friends when you are around, it makes the sadness and anger in your heart flare up

Now, Slender understands that some people just aren't ever going to like each other

He tries to keep the manor a relatively positive place for people, so if it can't be helped, then he won't intervene with people's hatred for each other

HOWEVER, if it can be helped, he would prefer that people get along

And so, seeing that you and EJ have a more quiet kind of distain for each other, he decides to partner you up for the more tricky missions for the month

With his brains, and your street smarts, it should be a perfect match

You can get in, do your work, and get out

And that is Ej's plan, he will cooperate with you for the sake of his work, but personally, he still dislikes you

You however, have other plans

If you're gonna be forced to work with someone for a month straight (and knowing Slender, probably more), then you wanna at least like them a little bit

And so, while you are on a relatively slow-paced mission, you decide to strike up conversation

"Hey listen, I know you and I don't really like each other, but we have to work together so we might as well tolerate each other."

He huffs quietly "Yes, I suppose that would be the most reasonable conclusion"

You smile, knowing you at least got a somewhat positive reaction out of him "Well, the best way to start to tolerate each other would probably be to get to know each other, right?"

He side eyes you (well, yk. side "eyes") "Make no mistake, just because I choose to tolerate you does not mean I want to be your friend. If you want to get to know me, you can. However, I will make no effort to get to know you."

You frown and cross your arms. "Fine."

"Fine." He repeats, going about the mission

Despite it seemingly ending on a negative note, you decide to get to know him anyways out of spite

And quite shockingly, you find you have a lot in common!

And so, you try to sneak in little topics you know he likes in passing conversations

At first, his responses are short and dismissive, still firm on the notion that he does not like you, and is not going to make an effort to try and like you

But eventually, he starts getting more and more interested in the topics of conversations

He does not show this of course, until much later

His responses get a little more responsive, and he actually engages in conversation

He still doesn't like you, but he is beginning to see you as an acquaintance

Basically imagine the Sims relationship meter

That's how it progresses

Eventually though, you actually become good friends!

You hang out outside of work ours, you talk about topics you both like, and soon you forget all about the bad relationship you had before

Ej doesn't really get romantic feelings quickly, in order to catch feelings for someone, he has to know them inside and out

And one day, he realize that he does in fact, know you inside and out

And he realizes how you make him feel

And it shocks him! If his past self saw him now, casually flirting and chatting with someone he considers to be an enemy, he'd probably puke!

But he just can't shake that feeling

It's so strange to him, and he doesn't like it

So he decides not to act on his feelings

However if you were to act on your feelings, he'd be open to it

Just personally, he gets really ashamed of himself and kind of feels like he can't shake that past bad blood

Fun fact, this probably happened with no one else (except slender) noticing any shift in your relationship dynamic lol

When WWX realizes that LWJ is born he storms into the Cloud Recesses and demands LWJ's hand in marriage -- LWJ is only 12 (I think) at this point and LQR and LXC are horrified but LWJ agrees without their input (he still has his original memories). Secondly, I would like help to find a fic, from what I remember Wei Ying was drunk on the rooftop when someone approached. In his drunken state, he thinks it was Lan Wangji that showed up so he goes on saying things like are you here to punish me again. He also asks why Lan Wangji hates him so much, but the whole entire time it was actually Lan Xichen he was talking to. I think it takes place after he got punished for drinking in Cloud Recess, and then something happens and he almost falls off the roof but Lan Xichen catches him. Lan Wangji had apparently witnessed the whole thing and tried to apologize but Lan Xichen coldly tells him the apology should be given to Wei Ying instead when he wakes up.

18. So I’m looking for a specific fic that I know is on ao3, can’t remember the name of the story nor the author though.

And that’s after looking through my history on ao3 for over an hour.

All I really remember from it was that it was short, like one to ten chapters long.

It took place in cloud recess study arc, jiang Cheng punched or got into a physical fight with Jin Zixuan, in the classroom if I remember correctly.

I have a ask about women's clothing and I'll be linking examples of where I found the information, just in case anyone wants to check it out. Also, this is going to be LONG, so thank you in advance for taking the time to read and respond!

From what I saw, not all Greek women stayed at home, especially those from families whose social class was not high enough for the man in the family alone to be able to afford everything. Among those who did not stay at home, a certain number collaborated with farmer activities such as taking care of crops and animals. When it comes to more recent times, it's easy to find some black-and-white photos of these women farmers (in fact, it's easy to find this type of photo of women working in rural areas in several countries precisely because it's not from such a distant time and now we still have current photos because some areas are still rural). In all the ones I've seen so far, they still wore skirts/dresses, but above the ankle instead of covering their feet.

When it comes to even more ancient women, from Ancient Greece, I have seen female representations with short dresses, but they were short above the knee and generally it was more Atalanta or Artemis (In the case of Artemis, this is accentuated even in written sources), who are huntresses and not farmers. Apart from them, I have seen representations of Amazons in short dresses, but again they're warriors and not farmers. I thought about looking for something about this in Demeter, since she's a goddess related to agriculture, but all the representations I found of her show her wearing long dresses that cover her feet (that is, even longer than those of women who have the length above the ankle) and I don't know if this is more because she's a goddess and in the end these representations are still of a deity and not of a civil human woman, or if this would be an accurate representation of farmer women. After all, Athena is a goddess of war and that doesn't mean that her symbolic image is wearing a short dress although the armor is present. Regarding civilian women farmers, I didn't find anything on the subject.

I would like to know if we have any information on how women used to dress to carry out activities! Was it a dress above the ankles like the women in the B&W photos? A shorter version, though perhaps not as short as huntresses and warriors? Is it the same style of long dress we usually see? Is it the usual long-style dress, but tied in a way to improve practicality? Do we, in the present, not have this information?

The only thing I found involving farm clothing was the use of a hat for protection (petaso, I think? Also, I saw that petaso was used by both genders). I also saw that they already had a type of boot (for example, this. The boot in this image was even found among a woman's belongings) although I didn't see if it was used by farmers. Most of the other images are of men, so they doesn't answer much about women farmers.

It is no surprise that such folk dresses can be observed in mountainous rural areas, in the rural northern mainland or in the rural areas in the islands, whereas urban traditional dresses or dresses from generally prosperous regions were longer. I would say however that most folk dresses were overall a little shorter than what fashion in the west dictated during the same eras. Even a typically long Greek dress sometimes is above the ankle or exposes part of the feet. This was another matter of practicality; Greece has a very rugged terrain everywhere, meaning that too long dresses would get dirty very quickly or make women trip over all the time.

A little known funny fact is that western travellers and explorers of Greece in the 18th and 19th century were often scandalised at the sight of those "short" dresses and women's ankles or shins. There are manuscripts of Western European explorers mocking those outfits or questioning the morality of the women who wore them. I remember reading one spitting fire because the women didn't even wear socks under the dress (if memory serves me correctly, it was about peasant islanders who worked in the hot weather and close to water, obviously wearing tall thick socks would be both inconvenient and torturous). Unfortunately I can't provide precise links, it was something I read about a year ago and I am not sure, but I think it was when searching info about specific dresses but I can't remember about which one it was.

Meanwhile in Greece, while staying covered was a sign of modesty and propriety, I don't think showing some skin under the knee was that big of a deal anyway. Men were certainly not fainting at the sight of a bare ankle XD As for the late 19th and the 20th century, after the invention of photography, like these images you have, it wasn't a controversial issue. Women could wear dresses above the ankle and be sockless as well if there was good reason for it. The photos you have provided are in fact from the 50s - 60s, a time when other Greek women who didn't work in the salt pans or the fields were favouring mini dresses and skirts for their night out.

The length of a dress in Modern Greece wasn't all that derived by ancient Greek fashion standards but rather common sense and similarity to other nearby nations. The similarity between Ancient and Modern Greece in this aspect is founded simply on the common need for practical outfits when working hard. I mean, modern Greek peasants did not wear shorter dresses as part of their Greek heritage but because this is what it made sense to do.

Ancient Greek female peasants did wear shorter outfits resembling the men's chitons, when their work dictated it. However, wearing short clothing was associated with being a man. A short outfit on a woman was a telling sign the woman had no choice but to work hard in the field like a man. Low class prostitutes also wore short chitons to expose themselves more and attract customers. Women who engaged in sports wore them too but only in the presence of other women. A short outfit was only chosen out of necessity and it wasn't a very respectable way to dress yourself, unless you were from Sparta, where it was more common (besides, the Spartan lifestyle was such that women exercised a lot and spent more time with other women). Young maidens in search of a husband sometimes wore shorter dresses but once a woman was married she was supposed to wear long peplos touching the ground, unless they were desperate enough to work in the fields.

As for Artemis, Atalanta and the Amazons versus Demeter and Athena: the former three had chosen a lifestyle greatly resembling a man's lifestyle. Artemis and Atalanta were what one can call "tomboys" recoiling at the prospect of marriage and they were huntresses. They are portrayed and imagined in such a way to accentuate their intent to live a life like a man's. (Atalanta did eventually get married but she was a total tomboy, participating in sports competitions with men before this.) The Amazons were warriors who had banished all men from their society, taking their place in doing all the conventionally masculine things, hence the dress code.

Demeter was a goddess comfortable in her femininity. She did not live a man's life and although she was the goddess of nature and the harvest, she did not do farmer work. She used her divine powers for anything that she needed to get done. Athena is an interesting case. Although she was a sworn virgin like Artemis and a goddess of war (what's conventionally more masculine than this, right?) her hem always touches the ground. The reason is that there is no indication Athena was not comfortable in her femininity. Like a priestess, she was a feminine virgin disinterested in lust and sexual gratification. She was dedicated to all things spiritual and intellectual; this was also her divine intervention in war. She wasn't goddess of the physicality and brutality of war like Ares was, she was the goddess of strategy, tactics and rightful defense. There wasn't tomboiness in her, only disinterest in sex. But she too had a feminine vanity in her (see Paris and the apple). Of course Athena was also the goddess of arts, sciences and all feats of the human mind. Perhaps this shows that it wasn't considered exclusively manly or masculine to be wise or intellectual. But I digress. In any case, despite their similarities and Athena's divine control over combats, Artemis had more masculine mannerisms than she did.

In short, there were three main reasons a Greek woman would wear a short dress in ancient times: rough work outside due to destitution, vulgarity or desire for a more conventionally masculine lifestyle. In modern times, it was a matter of practicality above all else. However, after 1880 I would say it was progressively becoming less and less of a deal to show skin below the knee.

Lastly, hats and shoes were not gendered garments. Boots absolutely existed in Ancient Greece, they were used when they were more convenient for certain activities than the sandals and when the weather was very cold. Hats were also practical until the Roman period, when ladies sometimes also wore fancy hats for aesthetical purposes.

omg it’s finally open!!! so i’ve been looking for these two fics FOREVER, and i can’t find them anywhere :(

the first one was called “the way young lovers do” i think, and it was aaron and katelyn helping neil and andrew set up their new house, and it ended with neil and andrew dancing to the song in their yard. it was very cute and i can’t find it no matter where I look

and the second one was aaron meeting katelyns parents for the first time, and they are super conservative and hate aaron, so they invite neil and andrew to be there to take the heat off of aaron. i remember neil saying andrew bought him a cartier bracelet and he wanted the one in a different colour, and just being a brat in general?
