THEY'RE SO SILLY
The baker and the chameleon...sobbing...
Nah, but I've been meaning to write this for a while. I haven't done much for the spouses of the mama Isa au. Actually, if y'all have any ideas for the spouses (or parents) let me know because I really need to do more for them and do more info on them
ANYWAYYYYYY YEAH <3333 Camilo finally built up enough courage and planned for weeks for this day lmao. They're so ψ(`∇´)ψ
LES GET IT
-----
Camilo fiddled with the small box in his pocket. He did his best to prevent himself from transforming into anyone else. Though, he knew Cereza would recognize him anyway. She always saw through his Gift, and always recognized him. No matter who he was. He didn't know how, maybe by some magic, but she always saw just...him.
He looked around. Waiting. Searching for her. He knew his family was somewhere nearby, watching him, waiting to watch him pop the question to her. Of course he didn't mind, it put him at ease that they were there for him, to support him. He loved his family more than anything, and he wanted Cereza to be apart of that.
Camilo reached in his pocket, opening up the small black box. He opened it carefully, looking inside of at the ring. His sister-- Luisa's husband, Oriano, had made it. Camilo asked after seeing the rings he made for Isabela and her husband and later Luisa and himself. Camilo was so excited when Oriano accepted, and he was even more happy when he had gotten the ring a couple weeks prior to this day.
His fingers traced the small etchings on the gold ring. It was the first letter of Cereza's name and Camilo's, 2 C's intertwined, along with the day they met. Camilo had a second ring on standby, in the hopes that she said yes. It had taken him weeks to get her ring measurement, because Cereza didn't wear much jewelry, especially on her hands. Mostly due to the fact that she was a baker, of course. Another thing he loved about her.
He fiddled with the box. He was half tempted to go inside Casita and ask his tía Lola when Cereza was coming. Of course, he knew she would come, she always did. But that didn't make him any less nervous.
He was terrified, actually.
He and Cereza had actually talked about getting married. And he genuinely wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. But he couldn't help but go through the hundreds of different scenarios. Scenarios of the best and worst case scenario. He wanted the best case scenario. For her to say yes, and they happily get married and she join the Madrigal family officially. He already had his mamá, Isabela's blessing, and the blessing of Cereza's father.
"Camilo?" Camilo jumped, shoving the box into his pocket and turning around. He was so distracted he didn't even notice Cereza had walked up behind him.
"Cereza!" He said, a awkward smile on his face. "You're here!"
"Yeah, sorry I'm late. We had a really big work order and it took forever for us to clean up," Cereza explained, shrugging. "So what's up? How come you called me here? Not that I mind."
Camilo glanced towards Casita, where he knew the family was waiting. His hands felt sweaty, is this what Mirabel's hands were like? He pulled on the fringes of his poncho, taking a deep breath.
"There is...something I wanna talk about," Camilo said, his face growing serious. Cereza faltered, her eyebrows furrowing. Camilo rarely pulled a serious face, so it was clearly something important.
"W-Well what is it?" She asked, her chest tightening. She couldn't helo but feel scared. She hoped Camilo wasn't going to say what she thought he was. Not after all this time. They had something special.
Camilo closed his eyes, taking another deep breath before grabbing Cereza's hands.
"Cereza, you know I love you," Camilo said.
Cereza laughed nervously. "O-Of course. I love you too."
Camilo looked down before meeting her eyes again. "No, Cereza, I really do love you. A lot. Ever since I met you and you agreed to go on the date with me. And...you've stuck around for the past 2 years. A-And I really do appreciate it and I love you for it," Camilo felt tears well up in his eyes but he continued. "You are one of most kind and caring people I know. And you know I care about my family more than anything."
Camilo pulled away, albiet reluctantly, and reached into his pocket. Cereza's eyes widened as it slowly dawned on her what was happening. It also explained why her mother was so adamant on her cleaning up before going to see Camilo and why her papá let her leave earlier.
"Camilo...?" Cereza felt tears well up in her eyes, and her nose burned, but she was anything but sad. She couldn't be more happy. "What are you doing?" She asked, half laughing in disbelief and joy.
"Cereza. You are one of the most important people in my life. You are one of, if not the best thing to happen to me since we moved here and I met you," Camilo said gently. His hands were trembling as he got on his knee, opening the box and revealing the ring, which shined in the setting sun. "Cereza Castro, will you marry me?"
Cereza had tears pouring out if her eyes. She didn't say anything, couldn't, her breath caught in her throat. She stared at Camilo, who furrowed his eyebrows. Cereza, not wanting him to get the wrong idea, threw himself into her arms. She basically tackled him to the ground, finally finding her voice.
"Yes, yes!" Cereza exclaimed, smotheeing Camilo in kisses. "I will marry you Camilo Madrigal!"
Camilo looked shocked, but quickly laughed, hugging her back. He carefully put the ring on her finger and kissed her. The two stood, and it didn't take long for the rest of the family to come out, congratulating them. Cereza was surprised to see her family there too. She had found it strange how only her parents were at the bakery and left almost immediately after she did, but seeing her siblings so happy for her made her so happy.
Camilo and Cereza were brought inside, where a party had been set up. It was a surprise to Cereza and Camilo, because initially, Camilo thought it was a small gathering and Cereza didn't even know. But they didn't care.
Cereza was immediately pulled into a hug by her parents, and her siblings bombarded her with questions about the now upcoming wedding. Camilo watched her with a soft smile.
"You just got engaged and your already oogling her," Mirabel said, holding her infant daughter in her arms. Camilo stuck his tongue out at her. But his younger sister was right.
"Yeah ok. Like you didn't do the same with Vasco," Camilo said teasingly, shifting into her husband before he quickly shifted back, and she rolled her eyes playfully.
Both Luisa and Mirabel and their respective husband, and even Antonio, were teasing Camilo, but the four were quickly shooed away by Pepa and Félix. Pepa had tears in her eyes and Félix looked proud.
"Ay, mi nieto," Pepa said, pressing a kiss onto Camilo's forehead.
"Abuela," Camilo whined, and Félix shooed away her cloud.
"We're proud of you Camilo," Félix smiled amd Camilo returned it, he felt proud too. He had been so excited but so scared. But he knew that Cereza was the one for him, and he couldn't be more happy that they were going to be married.
Pepa and Félix walked off, joining the rest of the party and Cereza joined him again, leaning in his arm. Camilo kissed her head, holding her hand tightly. He could feel tge ring on her finger and he looked down at her. It felt so surreal. He had proposed to his now fiancee, and they were going ti be married. It was like a dream. A dream he never wanted to wake up from.
Camilo's gaze was pulled away when he saw his mamá, Isabela, and her husband, his papá, Canelo, walking over. Isabela handed Isabela a bouquet of flowers, and hugged the woman tightly.
"I can't wait for you to be my daughter," Isabela said and Cereza smiled up at Isabela. Isabela fawned and fussed over Cereza while Canelo congratulated Camilo and praised him. The matriarch finally turned to Camilo, with tears in her eyes.
"You have to promise to take care of her, ok?" Isabela said, and Camilo nodded. "And take care of my grandbabies if you have any."
"I will. Just like you mamá," Camilo whispered, and Isavela felt tears fall. Small flowers sprouted in her braid, and she peppered Camilo's face with kisses before she reluctantly pulled away, being led away by Canelo back to the party.
Camilo held Cereza close, holding her hand in his. As the two joined the rest of the families in party, Camilo hoped that this dream would never end.

In what way are the Madrigals celebrities? I think you already have an actors au, so things artists or musicians?
It’s a whole mixed bag!
Just a bit of context: Alma (and Pedro) were not famous in any way, neither was anyone else in their families before the future generations. They didn’t have much money and Alma especially struggled after his passing with three babies and little support. Nowadays, she’s comfortably retired (though still currently in the family home) and very proud of her children/grandchildren.
Bruno is a famous playwright and director. He initially worked in Colombia, but when one of his shows reached major success and producers in Broadway were interested in staging a production there, he moved to America with his boyfriend, Alfonso. He hasn’t been able to meet up with the rest of the family much, but he still keeps contact with his mother and sisters.
Pepa is a competitive/professional dancer and met Félix (who is also a professional dancer) through competitions. They don’t compete as much by Antonio’s birth, but have definitely made guest appearance as judges and are very much local celebrities in town. They are also both very musical and encouraged a love for performing in all their children.
Julieta is the only one of the triplets to not have any celebrity status. She runs a bakery in town and still does. Agustín, however, does. She meet him through Pepa as he was her dance partner during their teenage years - Pepa later changed for Félix after they started dating.
Now, onto the grandkids!
We’ll start with Antonio as there isn’t much to say about him. He is still a child and is in school. He has no great plans for the future, but that’s understandable given his age just now.
Dolores is the only other grandkid still at home in Colombia. She is a music artist but doesn’t care about being famous, she just enjoys making music. Probably has a nice group of followers on social media, but nothing big. She’s made the odd cameo in a few telenovelas too - usually to sing.
Isabela was, albeit briefly, a model and telenovela actress in this AU’s variant of her “Señorita Perfecta years”. She was getting very successful before she mysteriously quit. It was like she completely disappeared from the world for a few years. She is now pursuing acrobatics and gymnastics competitively, always travelling and never in one place for too long.
Luisa, upon finishing high school, left Colombia to study performing arts in America for college. She later went abroad to do a year at Shakespeare’s Globe as part of her degree and found she preferred it. Once finishing college, she moved to London and made a name for herself as a West End actress. She has featured in a few television and films roles too. Probably the most successful in the family, after Bruno.
Camilo was very much inspired by Luisa, though he probably won’t admit it out loud. When he finished school, he went straight to America to try make it big as an actor. It hasn’t worked out well for him thus far. He’s had a few minor, background roles in lesser known projects. But I’m sure he’s doing fine and this hasn’t affected his self-esteem at all.
Mirabel followed Luisa to the UK when she moved there permanently; they live together. She had no ideas for fame but it is one of the best places for historical places/studying history. (She also didn’t want to be alone but that’s a different story). She’s at university for the most part, but as Luisa gets more successful, she becomes her sister’s unofficial stylist and embellishes everything herself by hand, accidentally getting a name for herself in the process.

Old piece allert. This is an older character sheet series I did for my Encanto au, Over the Mountains.
(In this fan fiction, Mirabel ran away on Antonio's birthday in fear of slowly drifting away from him as well. It has been ten years since the events of that day, and everyone was affected in one way or another. In the story, the Madrigal grandkids go after her, following Bruno's vision of the misterious new doors that appeared out of nowhere. The story is called "Over the Mountains.")
Luisa is the strong one. They give her all the heavy things they can't shoulder. But under the surface, the little girl living inside her is terrified of what could have happened to her little sister in the past ten years.
She took on the role of the owerprotective big sister of the Madrigal grandkids after Isabela started to fall down into depression. Now she's the caretaker of the family, which part was previously Mirabel's.
Since Julieta lost her youngest and became overprotective of her older daughters, Luisa had to make some changes. She wears more suitable clothes for her chores, enclouding boots with better support for her legs and thicker gloves to protect her palms.

Oh my gosh ya! Juli would absolutely adore her clumsy babies and it’d make her smile and her heart warm because their just like their papá🥹 and I love the idea of lil Mira just walking into things until they realize she needs glasses, but also how Gus would be all hey! She’s got glasses like me! and it’d make Mira love them even more! And Isa would use her vines to stop her lil sisters from falling if she was able to catch it in time.
Ya!! That’s exactly how I imagine it! And I kinda think it takes a big toll on her because she wants to be able to cure them so they can live a long life but she’s comforted by the fact that at the very least they don’t suffer and can pass away peacefully. But like 100% Gus is the best and most supportive and just there to make sure she’s ok after that because he knows how hard it is for her! Haha I’ll stop babbling now😂
I need to do a whole COLLECTION of little one shots for the Madrigal kids as cute lil babies because I need the fluffiness of them with their parents 😭 Especially since we never got to see the bond Juli has with Isa and Luisa! You know she loved on those babies just as hard as Mira. Isa catching her sisters with the vines is everything and Gus being so excited about Mira having glasses with him is the cutest thing! She would be so excited to be matching with him!
I totally agree, especially if that person is young and had so much life left to live. You know Gus gives her a cuddle and then makes her some tea to calm her down and stuff before they go to bed. He is seriously just the best and so protective of her in the days after because she feels fragile because of it 🥺 Ugh, I adore them so much and I am so glad my hyperfixation with them and this movie has returned 😂

I bring you a headcanon: Madrigal kids & Hairspray. (Hope you like it).
- Tracy is definitely Isabela's fave. Takes no shit and fights for what she believes. Kinda reminds her of her little sister Mirabel, btw. She also like the diversity of the cast. Reminds her of her family.
- Mirabel loves the songs, of course, but she loves the story more. She's inspired to start some protest to make Encanto a better place, she just needs a good reason to start.
- Luisa has a crush on Link. And also on Penny. She's a very soft girl who always sings along to "I can hear the bells".
- Dolores pretends that she's too cool for musicals but cries during the whole "Without love" arc because she's a hopeless romantic. (Not so) secretly hopes someone will love her like Wilbur loves Edna.
- Camilo spent 3 weeks trying to nail as much of the choreography as possible. He knows all the lyrics and is committed to make his school put on a production of Hairspray. Also tries to convince the teacher that YES - he can play 4 or 5 characters in the play.
- Antonio haven't watched it yet, but murmurs a few songs because Camilo heard the soundtrack so many times that is impregnated on everybody's brain.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LET'S GO!!!!
Tracy being Isa's fave makes so much sense actually 😭😭😭😭 and the fact she reminds Isa of her sister is so cute 🥺🥺
Mirabel LOVING the story is such a her thing that's so nice!!! She truly is a lot like Tracy!
Luisa having a crush on Link? CANON. YES. On Penny??? ALSO CANON WHO WOULDN'T LOVE THAT GIRL SHE'S SO CUTE. Also her dramatically singing "I Can Hear The Bells" is something that I find really funny and so in character 😭😭😭😭
Dolores is definitely a real one, she understands my love for Wilbur and Edna so well 😭😭😭😭
Camilo. I didn't needed Camilo playing Link AND Corny so bad until now.
Antonio is basically my friends every time that I listen to Hairspray ngl.
Now you've only mentioned the grandkids, so what about the adults?
Pepa LOVES Edna's character arc solely because empowered women is something that she finds so cool, considering she comes from a family of mostly women. Not only that but seeing others supporting Edna makes her cry a lot. It reminds her of how supportive her husband and kids are too. "Big, Blonde and Beautiful" starts playing and she starts screaming.
Bruno is not the biggest fan, mostly because he's into more dramatic musicals, but he loves the costumes and stage design a lot.
Tracy is also Julieta's fave for the same reason she's Isa's fave as well. Tracy reminds her a lot of Mirabel.
Agustín is a Wilbur and Edna stan and he LOVES teasing Julieta when "You're Timeless To Me" plays. He knows the lyrics by heart at this point.
Félix loves the overall energy of the musical and his fave songs are surely "Run and Tell That" and "You Can't Stop The Beat". Seaweed is his fave and he's gonna make it everyone's problem.
Alma... even though she's not the biggest Hairspray fan, she always cries when "I Know Where I've Been" starts. Always.

Sometimes you just need some support
MALL TRIP!
Much celebration was present at the Madrigal house, Isabela had gotten herself perfect grades across the board, after lots of secret long nights of cramming that only Dolores knew about. She would text Isa with practice questions, and her cousin would just speak the answer out loud, knowing her Prima could hear her perfectly. Despite working almost just as hard, Dolores only managed high B's, due to all the noises not only in the exam hall, but throughout the school dividing her attention. It was lucky she got a bit of extra time otherwise she didn't think she wouldn't manage it.
Both of them got into their first choice of college, and a night of celebrations ensued. When Antonio was put to bed, the alcohol came out. Julieta made sure to keep an eye on Isabela as she had inherited her Tía's affinity for wine. Dolores had one glass of gin and tonic, but decided she’d had enough after that. It was then that Abuela came down the stairs with two fancy gold envelopes. One hand-painted with pink flowers, and the other with purple ones. The two young ladies gently took them, careful not to damage the wonderful art. Abuela stood back and smiled as her eldest granddaughters’ faces lit up in shock and awe, then appreciation, pulling out €200 each.
Isa was first to grateful tears, mainly because she was one too many drinks in. She went to give her Abuela  a big hug, quickly followed by her Prima. Despite being slightly tipsy, she noticed Mirabel biting her lip, looking away, and holding her arm. She knew exactly what Mira was thinking, and wished her sister could just be happy for her for one day, but decided to open the hugs to her sisters and they all had a big squeeze. Dolores gave Camilo a fist bump as he was in a phase of not liking hugs.
Abuela spoke kindly "I saw a new shopping centre just into the city, maybe you all could have a trip out to start this new chapter of your lives."
"Thank you so much, Abuela." Dolores spoke and nodded.
"Yes, Thank you so much." Isa followed.
The rest of the night mostly consisted of a game where they had to tell which family member was themselves and which was Camilo. They both stood behind a curtain, Camilo would shift and then switch places a few times then everyone else had to take a guess. Isa was told by Juli to stop drinking as she was getting very sleepy and existential, but she needed to be carried to bed by her mum in the end as she overdid it.
The next morning, well, close to afternoon. Isabela finally emerged from her flower den after nearly overcoming her hangover, still in her pink nightgown deciding comfort was more important than appearance after the night she had.  She headed down for breakfast straight away, having only one slice of toast even though she wanted two. Mirabel and Luisa sitting at the table, for a good 10 minutes now; she had challenged Luisa to an arm wrestle. Isa couldn't help but chuckle slightly, Luisa didn't want to win, but Mira was not giving up.
"Good morning, mi hermanas." Isa spoke softly, sipping her turmeric green tea, made by her mother for the expressed purpose to cure headaches, whilst also having a dash of caffeine to wake her up.
"Morning Sis." Luisa replied, taking her attention away from Mirabel tugging at her arm with both of her arms, causing Luisa's arm to hit the table. Mirabel slapped the table with her other hand and let out a huge cheer which made Isa glad she had started drinking the tea.
"Do either of you wanna go to the mall today? We can spend some of the money that we got, plus the money that we saved up from summer-" Isabela had barely finished asking her sisters on the trip before Dolores' footsteps rushed down the stairs to the dining room.
"Did I hear mention of a potential trip?" She poked her head round the corner.
Isa laughed slightly "No, your gift must be playing up.”

"I would like to go to the one in Santafé." Dolores suggested, barely paying attention to her cousin’s teasing.
"Alright, but you’re driving." She handed her now empty mug to Julieta and stood up. "Meet back here ready in half an hour and we’ll go. Oh and ask Camilo, though, I doubt he will be interested."  Isabela told going to her flowery den once more to get dressed.
***
Luisa chose to go casual but cute with her look, choosing a navy blue tank top that stopped just above her bellybutton. She paired it with a black skirt that reaches her mid thigh, and a pair of black converse high tops to add her cute dorky touch to the outfit. With her hair, she decided to let Pepa do two french braids.
“going with the girls into Santafe?”  she asked when Luisa settled between her knees making it easier for her to do the braids.
“Si, i have all that money saved from my summer jobs, plus it’ll be time to spend time with my sisters and cousin,” Luisa explained
“That’s nice Lulu, what do you think you’ll buy? new clothes, maybe some room accessories?” Pepa asked parting Luisa’s hair.
“Well, there was this awesome book series i heard about from some of my friends i wanted to get from the bookstore along with maybe some more marvel decorations for my room;  I was looking with pa a few weeks ago and saw this really cool journal i wanna buy , the cover looked like it was made of tobacco leaves and the pages inside were natural made. Maybe some clothes if I find something I really like,” Luisa told.  pepa nodded and continued to talk to her niece while she braided her hair.
Dolores chose to wear a patterned off-the-shoulder white blouse, with a lavender skirt, and light wooden bracelets. She applied some light foundation, brushed her hair but chose to keep it down, and then put on her headphones. She didn't plan to listen to music, but she knew the mall might be full of noises that she didn't want to ruin her nice day out.
Isabela pondered on all her clothes for a while, before finally sighing and choosing a long white dress with a brown belt around her waist, as well as skin colour tights, and black heels with some lace details. She thought it would be fine for now, though an awful pimple was throbbing on her forehead. She quickly covered the seemingly glowing blemish with concealer and after she finished her makeup with some light eyeshadow and a bold lip, she returned downstairs.
Mirabel was struggling, she had barely got upstairs before she felt that ever-so-familiar ache of her entire body and the sharp sting in her abdomen. She hurried to the bathroom to be sick, before cleaning up, getting dressed, and decided to try and ignore it. She was very excited about this and didn't want to let her body ruin it. it wasn’t everyday your sister invited you to go with her to santa fe for a shopping spree.

Camilo wasn't bothered about going to the mall but asked for snacks, which Dolores laughed at but agreed to bring him some.
When the four girls met back in the dining room to leave, Luisa noticed Mirabel looked pale. Her normal pink cheeks were flushed and she looked miserable.
"Mir, are you ok? You look sick," Luisa asked, putting a hand on the younger girl's shoulder.
"I'm fine," Mirabel assured.
"No you're not. I heard you in the bathroom," Dolores pointed out. Mirabel mentally cursed her cousin’s gift before defending herself.
"I'll be fine, come on guys," Mirabel lied.
Isabela picked up on this lie and told Mirabel
“you’re not going, I’m sorry but you’re sick, I don’t want you to be miserable and like this, you would be,”
“She’s right mija, they’ll bring you something home,” Julieta said, guiding her daughter to sit down at the table with a cup of ginger tea.
“Ok, I guess we’ll go now. Sorry lil sis, I’ll bring you some new PJ’s, I saw some harry potter ones you’ll absolutely love,” Isabela said as the three eldest headed toward the door.
Dolores grabbed her keys and they all piled into her pristine white jeep to head into santa fe.
When they finally got into the city they found the mall and spent about 20 minutes trying to find a decent parking spot.
“Jeez nobody in the city knows how to park here,” Dolores grumbled
“Look there’s a spot,” Isa pointed to an empty spot between two cars, it was about as good as they were going to get so Dolores pulled into the spot putting the jeep in park.
The three piled out and straightened their clothes. Finally they made their way out of the parking lot and into the air conditioned mall. Dolores winced before pulling her headphones onto her ears.
The trio walked around the mall shopping and enjoying each other’s company. They went through lots of stores buying books, posters, and clothes before eventually coming across a Victoria’s Secret near the food court.
“C’mon, lets go we have plenty of money left over,” Isabela persuaded
“Isa, are you sure? it’s really expensive” Dolores asked, unsure of her cousin’s choice.
“I know, c’mon Lola it’ll be fine, plus it would help you win over that hunk you have a huge crush on,” Isa said pulling her arm.
“You know she isnt gonna let up Lola, might as well treat yourself to some new underwear,” Luisa told her cousin.
“ok,” Dolores sighed before her cousins dragged her into the shop.
The pink walls were inviting as Dolores looked at the many racks of bras and underwear that were everywhere around her. A display of bras caught her eye with an enticing red lace one being on the display.
“Let’s look at these Lola, I’m sure mariano would absolutely love them” Isa told, dragging Dolores over to the display she was eyeing.
“Red suits you,” Isa said as she held a red bra up to Dolores’s chest, seemingly surveying how it looked with her skintone.
Changing the subject to deflect the attention  she asked Luisa, “Lu have you found anything you like?”
“Not quite, I’ve found some nice red and black sets, but I really want something dark blue,” she tells, placing a bra back on the rack.
“Isa, can you pick me out something while I help lu look for a set she likes?” Dolores asked
“Sure, once we find some we’d like to try on we can go to the dressing rooms.”
after about a half hour dolores had found about three sets for luisa and two sets of her own knowing isa probably had plenty more for her to try.
When they went to the dressing rooms, Luisa was the first to try her sets on. The first one was a dark blue push up bra with matching lace underwear. Taking a step out of the dressing room, Luisa felt really self concious. That feeling was quickly diminished as her sister and cousin hyped her up.
Spending nearly an hour taking turns trying on lots of different sets of lingerie they settled on two sets each and finally left the mall returning home 20 minutes to curfew.
“How was the trip, girls?” Julieta asked, finishing up the last of the dishes from dinner.
“it was good, how’s Mira doing?” Isabela asked
“She’s not feeling too well, her cv’s acting up because she’s due for her period,”  Pepa said rounding the corner with an empty mug.
“So, what did you get?” Pepa asked nosily trying to peek in the bags that were put on the table,
“nothing much, I got some clothes and Cami some snacks,” Dolores said pulling various skirts and dresses out of the bag
“What did you two get?” Julieta asked drying her hands on her towel. She walked toward the table as Isabela told,
“Lu got some books and stuff for her room, we both got some clothes, I got some new shoes and a new set of sheets, oh and I bought mirabel some cute marauders map and ravenclaw pajamas”
“And just who are you three trying to impress with these?” Pepa asked teasingly as she held up one of Dolores’s lacy lingerie sets.
“noone,” Luisa quickly replied her cheeks tinting pink
“she’s right, we’re not trying to impress anyone.  when we were getting ready to leave I suggested we take a look since we had enough money for each of us to get at least one set or something,” Isabela explained as Pepa pulled another set out of the pink and black bag.
“Well I must say you have some good taste,”  Julieta told taking a look at the mauve bra Isabela bought.
“Did you bring me snacks?” Camilo asked, coming downstairs.
“Yes I got your snacks, now leave,” Dolores said, throwing Camilo a bag filled with his favourite snacks and candy.
“not a chance hermana, what else did you get?” Camilo asked, approaching the table where their lingerie was laid out. Isabela picked up on Dolores’s behaviour and slid some bags over to obstruct his view and give her more room to take a better look at some of the wall art Luisa got for her room.
“Just some wall art for my room and pyjamas for Mirabel,” Luisa said, acting as casual as she could, knowing her mother and aunt were looking at her underwear that she bought.
“Sure, I’m going back to my room,” Camilo shrugged, heading upstairs.
After about an hour of conversation with Pepa and Julieta the three eldest girls went upstairs to accompany Mirabel in her room and cheer her up.
hope you enjoy ❤

Chapter Summary: Leo's fifth birthday and gift ceremony day is here, and he works through his nerves about the day with his family by his side.
______________________________
Leo was standing in his parent’s bedroom, looking at himself in the mirror while his father helped tie a bow tie around his neck. Today was his fifth birthday and gift ceremony day, and everyone in the family dressed up for the occasion.
“Looking sharp, mijo!” Bruno said as he finished the knot.
“What if I’m not like Emi and I don’t get a gift?” Leo said softly, looking down at the ground.
Bruno put his hand affectionately on his son’s shoulder, a reassuring smile on his face.
“Then you will still be our same amazing, Leo that you are right now." Bruno said. "Your family loves you exactly as you are no matter what.”
“You mean it?” Leo asked, brightening a bit.
“Cross my heart.” Bruno said, making a crossing motion over his chest.
Leo smiled a bit. “Okay.”
The door to the bedroom peeked open and Natalia’s face appeared in the doorway.
“There are my handsome boys!” She exclaimed, a big grin on her face. She approached Leo and smoothed out the front of his shirt.
“Qué guapisimo mijito!” She said brightly.
Bruno put his arm around Natalia’s waist and they looked down lovingly at their son.
“I know these big events can be a little uncomfortable for you sweetie, so if at any point you feel overwhelmed or need a break you make sure to tell me or your dad okay?” Natalia said.
Leo nodded. “I will.”
“We’re so proud of you, Leo.” Bruno said. “This is a wonderful day!”
“It’s not everyday you turn five, you know.” Natalia added, making Leo grin.
“Ready, mi amor?” Natalia asked.
Leo smiled. “Mhm.”
Natalia put her hand on Leo’s back and walked out with him to attend his gift ceremony.
____________________
The moment Leo reached the ground floor of the casita he was crashed into by his sisters, wrapped up in a tight hug. He smiled between them, comforted by their affection.
"Happy Birthday Leo!!!" Luna said, slowly pronouncing each word to say them clearly.
"Happy Birthday hermanito!" Emilia added, giving Leo a kiss on the cheek.
"Gracias." Leo said quietly.
"Don't be scared." Emilia assured him in a whisper. "It'll be fun!"
Natalia and Bruno's hearts were warmed at the sight of their children supporting each other. They were all the best of friends with one another, exactly as they had hoped.
Leo looked over at Natalia, indicating he was ready. Unlike Emilia, he wanted his parents beside him during his ceremony to help make the experience a little less nerve wracking for him.
Bruno and Natalia stood beside Leo and walked up the stairs.
Leo approached Alma, and his parents stood off to the side. They watched him proudly, an excited energy in the room.
Leo looked around him and then back down to the ground floor at the rest of his family, a mix of comfort from their familiar faces and nerves from his introverted disposition. He didn’t care for being the center of attention, but the supportive and caring expressions on all of his family's faces made him feel much better in an instant.
When the time came for Leo to open the doorway to his new room, the door lit up around his touch. But unlike with Emilia, the results of whatever had just happened were not clear immediately. Leo looked over at the door, which was now carved with an image of him, with what appeared to be waves surrounding him on all sides.
Leo looked over at his parents, a bit of panic on his face. He knew something had happened, he just wasn't quite sure what.
“This same thing happened with me, mijo.” Bruno said quickly. “Let’s go check out your new room and see what answers we can find!”
“We’re right behind you baby.” Natalia added with a smile, hers and Bruno's assurances calming Leo down a bit.
____________________
When the door to Leo’s room opened, his eyes immediately grew wide in amazement.
Before them was a regular young boy’s room in the front, but the back of the room held a massive wall of water. It was shaped like a tank, but the water wasn’t separated by any kind of glass. It floated on it's own through the casita's magic, forming an invisible magical wall. Above the water was a beautiful sunny beach, with a small ladder leading up to it from the ground floor.
Leo cautiously approached the wall of water, touching it gently. He jerked back slightly in surprise when fingers actually got wet, as he was half expecting to touch an invisible pane of glass.
Leo was an experienced swimmer, so Bruno and Natalia weren’t as nervous as they could have been while they watched him walk into the wall of water. He was still in his dress clothes but was so amazed by the sight in front of him that he didn't care one bit. What no one realized however was that in his excitement, Leo had forgotten to hold his breath when he walked in.
Leo floated weightlessly in the crystal clear warm blue water, overwhelmed by the sights and sounds. He looked in awe at the wondrous aquatic world surrounding him, filled to the brim with coral reefs and aquatic plant life. After a few moments, a wave of panic filled him as he realized he could feel water surrounding him, but had never taken a breath. He knew immediately that he had made a mistake and should exit the magical tank as soon as possible. But, when he instinctively opened his mouth to attempt a breath, he was shocked by what he experienced.
He turned around to see the family staring back at him in anticipation.
“I–I can breathe in here!!!” He cried out. He breathed in an out in the water as easily and naturally as he did outside of it, a comfortably familiarity to it developing quickly.
“He’s breathing underwater, Daddy!!” Emilia cried out, tugging on Bruno's arm.
“Oh my god–” Natalia said in amazement. “I wonder if it’s him, or the water itself?”
“Let’s find out!” Luisa exclaimed, running past the group directly into the water. She took a breath before heading in, and briefly opened her mouth once inside. She felt her mouth filling up with with water and threatening to go into her lungs immediately, and she quickly headed right back out of the water the way she’d entered.
Dripping wet and laughing, Luisa coughed a few times.
“Definitely not the water. It’s Leo.”
"We've got a merman in the family!" Agustín cried out with a grin.
“Qué increíble mijito!” Bruno cried out.
“Just like Emi, this makes perfect sense.” Natalia said. “He’s been obsessed with water since he was a baby.”
"I remember when he was maybe, six months old? Something like that?" Julieta said. "You guys were out for date night and I was giving Leo a bath, and he was so upset when I took him out of the water."
"We had that same thing happen when we went down to the river last year!" Isabela exclaimed. "He was so heartbroken when he had to get out of the water."
"And can't forget all the times we had to pull him by the back of his shirt to not jump in every single puddle he saw over the years." Camilo added with a chuckle.
"His spirit and heart has always been tied to the water." Alma said softly, watching with pride as Leo swam excitedly through the water.
"How's it feel to have two out of your three kids gift ceremonies behind you, tío and tía?" MIrabel asked.
“So far so good!" Bruno said.
"This gift is significantly less stressful, since we don’t have to worry about him drowning anymore." Natalia added.
"But we do still have to worry about Emi crashing into things.” Bruno joked.
“Hey!” Emilia cried out, crossing her arms defensively.
“You only crash into things what, a few times a week?” Camilo teased, nudging Emilia on the shoulder.
"More like once a day. I hear you bumping into the bookshelf in the living room all the time." Dolores teased.
Emilia laughed. "I'm getting better at my flying every day! Tía Pepa said I was getting really good! Right tía?"
"Sí, cariño." Pepa said with a laugh, tousling the top of Emilia's hair affectionately.
"A bird with Emi and now a fish with Leo, I wonder what animal our Lulu will turn out to be?" Felix teased.
"Maybe a nice, easy turtle?" Natalia chuckled. "Something safe and calm?"
"Good luck with that, Nat." Camilo laughed, resting his elbow on Natalia's shoulder. "Lulu's already way too smart for her own good. She'll end up with something even crazier than her siblings, you watch."
"Thanks for putting that out into the universe, sobrino." Bruno said with a smirk.
Emilia flew up beside Natalia and pulled at her shirt sleeve.
“Can me and Lulu swim with Leo, Mommy?” Emilia asked.
“Sure, go get your swimsuits on!” Natalia said, and Emilia quickly ran off with Luna to change.
Natalia approached the water wall and smiled warmly at her son.
“I’m so excited for you my love!” Natalia said. “Make sure you don’t overdo it swimming in here okay? Just because you can breathe the water doesn’t mean you can’t make yourself overtired.”
“I won’t Mama.” Leo said.
“Do you love your new room?” Natalia asked.
“I do, so much!! It's amazing!!!” Leo exclaimed, swimming in excited somersaults.
“We’re so glad.” Bruno said, approaching Natalia and putting his arm around her shoulders.
“I’m curious if his gift applies to all water, or just the water in here.” Natalia said quietly to Bruno.
“I’d assume all water, doesn’t make too much sense for it to just be in here.”  Bruno replied.
“Since when does any of this make any practical sense?” Natalia smirked. “Our kids, our family has superpowers. None of this makes any sense at all!”
“Okay, fair.” Bruno shrugged with a laugh. “We’ll test the gift out with him the next time we have a beach day.”
Natalia and Bruno were glowing with pride for their son, admittedly curious about what would happen with their youngest child in a year and a half when it was time for her fifth birthday. But for now, they were just thrilled to see their children safe and happy surrounded by their loving family.
The family all joined Leo and his siblings in the water and spent the entire day enjoying the magical beach and celebrating Leo's special day.

Luisa is the best older sister since Nani. Her interactions with Mirabel are so positive, and she never treats Mirabel poorly because she doesn’t have a gift. In The Family Madrigal, she smiles at Mirabel and gives her a thumb’s up. In Surface Pressure, she protects Mirabel from anything that may hurt her. There’s even a family photo right before the breakfast scene that shows Luisa with her arm around Mirabel, pulling her into the photo.
She even validates Mirabel’s suspicions about the magic. Despite her emotions being depicted as slightly silly (for kids), the narrative plays it dead serious that Luisa is going through a lot and the only person who really seems to understand that is her baby sister.
Just love Luisa and Mirabel’s relationship. It’s so wholesome.

Luisa Headcanons
(Because I love her)
Luisa’s a Daddy’s girl. When she was a baby you’d always see her strapped to Agustín where every he’d go.
Her own personal nickname from Agustín is “LuLu”.
Before Luisa had her gift, she’d stay at home with her papa & Tíos. The 4yr would try helping around the house. She’d try to carry things twice her size and Agustín would have to stop her. She’d pout until they gave her another (easier) task to do.
Bruno would watch Luisa when Agustín & Félix were too busy fixing/cleaning Casita. He’d let Luisa guide him around wherever she wanted to go (usually around the town to look at the farm animals).
When Agustín would get hurt, Luisa would rush over as fast as her little legs can to help him. She’d ask in her little voice “Are you okay?” while trying to hold him up.
When Mirabel was born, Luisa would watch her. Literally watch her. If someone were to pick up & take Mirabel to another room Luisa would follow. It’s her first time being a big sister & she wants to make sure nothing happens to lil Mirabel.
When Luisa finally gets her gift it takes her 1/2 years to get used to it. So many doors were accidentally ripped off their hinges cause of Luisa forgetting she has super human strength.
Tío Bruno, & sometimes the other Madrigal children, would help train Luisa with her new gift. Luisa has a lot of fond memories of her doing warm ups with her tío, sisters, & cousins.
Luisa has a second gift where she just knows when her Dad’s gonna fall out a tree/building/high place. She would be helping load a cart up before she’d tell the person “excuse me”, walks towards a tree, hold out her arms, and down comes a scratched up Agustín.
Luisa’s a big hugger. She hugs her family, hugs the town’s people, and hugs the donkeys. A hug from her can be the warmest & softest hug you’ve ever had or an accidental back pop/crack if she forgets to dial it back.
I like to think she still goes to Agustín whenever something bad clouds her mind. Luisa likes to sit on the floor while Agustín brushes her hair and tell her dad how she feels.
After the events in the movie Luisa spends a lot of time relaxing in Antonio’s room. You’d find her laying under the big tree cuddling with Tonito’s Jaguar.
If you ever asked for Luisa’s help to get something off a high shelf she wouldn’t grab it herself. No instead she’d grab you, hoist you up, move you towards whatever you needed, and then put you down.
Luisa lifting Camilo like “Do I even weigh anything to you?” “No. It’s like holding a couple of grapes.”
Luisa is the #1 Mirabel protector & supporter. Anytime Mirabel feels left out, Luisa would be sure to pull her sister in. Every so often Luisa would bring a gift home for Mirabel from her time out doing her chores. (Fabric, yarn, a little cute clay pot, snacks, etc.)
Luisa’s never asked for a vision from her tío Bruno. She knew from a young age that it always made her tío anxious whenever someone came to casita for his gift. She used to (and still does) lie saying her tío wasn’t home to anyone who asked to see him. If someone caught him before he could hide she’d just pick her uncle up and tell the person “Sorry, he promised to help me with my chores.”
That’s all my Luisa’s hc I got for now 💪🏽💜💙

madrigal grandkids + dynamics
alphabetical order so it’s fair
DO NOT TAG ANY OF THIS AS SHIP I CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVE TO SAY THIS.
antonio & camilo - mad lads. they’d be the most likely to be a tik tok duo
antonio & dolores - he’s the most cuddly and earnest with mirabel, but he also likes for his big sis to pick him up. w/ mira he’ll just be like “pick me up” but w/ dolores he gives her puppy dog eyes and goes “pretty pretty please” so that she’ll go OH OF COURSE MY PERFECT SPECIAL BOY
antonio & isabela - they like to do each other’s hair while listening to old operas on records
antonio & luisa - antonio loves it when she picks him up and helps him pretend to be an airplane. sometimes his animal buds (including the biggest ones) will ask for the same and he asks luisa on their behalf.
antonio & mirabel - we already know they’re super close in canon. as antonio grows older he and mira tell each other secrets nobody else in tha family knows. thick as thieves & cuddlebugs
camilo & dolores - i feel like he’s more chill with her the same way he’s chill with his mom. they’re super close. he knows they’re both more prone to being overwhelmed so he’s gentle with them. except for when he’s teasing dolores about mariano
camilo & isabela - they definitely act more like the classic antagonistic brother and sister trope. i think all the kids are like siblings rather than cousins since they were all raised together, but these two feel the cain instinct for each other every day. but if someone outside the family tries it theyre getting their ass kicked. used to play-fight/wrestle when they were kids but stopped once pressure started getting put on isa
camilo & luisa - once he learns how stressed out she is, he takes it upon himself to teach her how to properly slack off. shows her the perfect hiding spots in casita to take a nap. etc
camilo & mirabel - if camilo and isa are antagonistic, camilo and mira are the sibs who see each other and immediately start T posing
dolores & isabela - they have spa days together that nobody else is allowed to come to. once isa loosens up a bit after the movie, it turns out she and dolores are the two best madrigal sibs at telling dirty jokes, and they have each other snorting and losing it halfway thru their massages
dolores & luisa - dolores’s room is soundproof, so when luisa needs to chill, they hang out in there and watch telenovas + chat with each other about the stress their powers can cause them. dolores appreciates how softspoken luisa can be
dolores & mirabel - CONSTANTLY gossiping. they’ll have breakfast while dolores goes over all the tea she heard recently. mirabel likes to pretend like she’s above it but she isn’t.
isabela & luisa - they definitely confide in each other a lot. luisa figured out she likes hugging after getting that hug from mirabel (not many people hugged her before that) so when she hears about isa’s struggles she gives her the most spine-breaking hug ever
isabela & mirabel - they’ve both got a lot of healing to do for their relationship, but they’re definitely working on it. they both think it’s nice to be able to joke with each other. mira helps isa with her cactus garden that she’s started outside casita
luisa & mirabel - obv super caring and supportive of each other. they’re the kinda sibs that don’t really do jokey insults towards each other, they’ve got a really solidly wholesome relationship. they say “i love you” a lot

Encanto, We don't talk about Pepa AU ¡! P.1
Ok so, I've seen some fanarts of the triplets with exchanged gifts, but my favourite version is:
Bruno has Julieta's gift, Julieta has Pepa's and Pepa has Bruno's.
So here are some ideas of this AU:
Camilo is the main character, he have no gift and actually just babysits and writes theater. His role is like Mirabel's in the movie.
The day of Camilo's ceremony, Pepa already had the vision before her son opening the door, so she stopped him seconds before and that caused a big discussion with Abuela.
Abuela though Pepa was crazy, why would a Madrigal wouldn't get a gift? Since Pepa was already really unstable and feared (the appalling reputation), the people of the town started thinking she has lost her sanity and wasn't suitable for maternity.
Camilo was really confused at that moment, he couldn't understand what her mom was discussing, so he ignored the argument and opened the door by himself, just to watch it slowly fade to the wind.
The people of the town started to argue that Pepa caused it with other of her prophecies, blaming her for her son's destiny, some were so abrubt even to tell Abuela to exile her out of the Encanto.
Félix (of course, best husband) was always at her side, being her only friend aside her siblings, although her relation with Julieta was tense.
Dolores consoled her brother the whole night until he was asleep. She couldn't rest because of the loud harming words and negative opinions of the settlers about her mother.
Pepa had the vision of Camilo infront of a destroyed Casita and started to believe that she was actually harming her son's future, that the only thing she has done to her family was breaking it.
That night, she talked to Félix about taking care of their children, although he was sleeping. She went to say goodbye to an asleep Dolores and Camilo and her sweet snoring sobrinas.
No one saw her after that.
The kids cried, where has Pepa gone? Maribel and her sisters tried everything to make their cousins feel better, but their parents told them to let them alone a moment.
Félix was as supporting as he could, but his sorrow was just as irrepresible as his children's.
Dolores really though she was going crazy, her mom wasn't there but she could still hear her voice, sometimes her breathing, combined with the rat's squeaks.
Abuela started saying that Pepa's act was irresponsible and selfish, how could she leave her children? Her own family?
After that, Pepa almost became a myth.
The adults didn't really help for the children to think good about Pepa, but if not, started the popular "we don't talk about Pepa".
Camilo grew up thinking his mother let him without a gift on purpose, causing some kind of hate against her.
Félix got really depressed, his charming personality was exchanged with fake smiles and shallow laughs. The only thing that kept him going was his family.
Everytime Dolores tried to bring up Pepa's topic she was silenced, and those were several times. At some point even Camilo started shushing her when she brought up memories fo their mother, kinda ruining their relation.
Mirabel's ceremony was private, and was the confirmation that Pepa's visions were the problem, not the magic.
Mirabel's gift was being able to create machines or instruments and repare them with just a touch, although this objects would stop working when she was alseep (this is inspred on a deleted character, Zoe).
Camilo is really close to his tío Bruno, he likes spending time with him and finds it relaxing.
Julieta keeps her kind personality, when she feels indisposed she has her nice smile but with a storm on her.
Mirabel and Camilo are ✨Mejores Amigos✨
Isabela and Dolores like ✨spending time together✨
Luisa is ✨alone✨
Bruno adopted Antonio after his biological parents died in a jaguar attack, and his ceremony is just like in the movie, but with papá Bruno.
Camilo feels out of place during this day, reminding him of his mother and the day he was left without a gift. He saw the cracks in Casita that night, and tries to warn Abuela, everyone ignored him except Mirabel, who got really concerned about this.
This got longer than I expected owjifaiurbjvuguhbj. Please feel free to share some ideas, would be fantastic to hear other people's opinions🧃
I'll make part 2 tomorrow 🤝

AIR BENDA❗
I still haven't watched all of Atla, likely won't but. HEY GOOGLE EXISTS AND. I WANNA WRITE FOR THIS AU.
Been trying to give au's that don't get attention, have gotten a lot as of late/forgotten aus more stuff. Art takes a lot more time, but writing I can do anywhere and I can do a lot more. So. Here this is.
Lea get it
-----
Mirabel pulled her nightdress over her head, readjusting her glasses as she put her bow onto her vanity. After she left her room, she glanced up and down the hallway. The family was asleep, or at least in their rooms. She felt Casita's tiles shift and she shushed the house playfully.
"I know, but it'll only take a second," Mirabel whispered before going downstairs. It was a routine at this point. Since she didn't bend anything on her 5th birthday, she figured she was a late bloomer. After all, her primos and hermanas could bend. Her mama, tia, and tio could. So she just had to be able to bend something...right?
And it wasn't like she was singled out because she couldn't bend. Her abuela, papa, and tio Félix couldn't bend. And she had trained with melee so far, and she found it fun! But...something deep down wanted her to be able to bend. She just wanted to be like the other family members.
So, every night, before she went to sleep, she would go up to the table and try to bend something. Of course, she hadn't been successful in the past 5, almost 6 years but...she wasn't giving up now. Something told her she was close. Her next birthday was soon, her 11th, and she wasn't gonna give up now.
She finally came up to the familiar room she had been in and walked back several times. She could see the four objects used to see if a Madrigal child could bend were sitting then. A bowl of water, a few rocks, a candle, and some marbles. The marbles had never been used. No one could airbend. The only airbender had been her Abuelo, Pedro. But he was long gone, and no one in the entire village had been able to end the air. Water and Fire were common, but Earth wasn't unheard of; there was her Tio Bruno and her sister Luisa. (Though something told her her littlest primo, Antonio would also be able to earth bend come his fifth birthday).
"Ok," Mirabel said taking a deep breath. "Two thousand-ish times the charm. Right, Casita?" Miravel asked and the gave a positive reaction, encouraging the girl. Casita was a big supporter. Of course, her family was also there, but they didn't exactly know she did this. Dolores did but...she didn't tell anyone.
Mirabel raised her hand. She copied a move she had seen Isabela and her mama do a million times. The water was still. No result. Moving onto the rocks, her arms shot forward as she stomped her feet. Still, no result. The fire reflected off her glasses as her hands moved gracefully about her. The fire didn't even flicker. Mirabel pursed her lips as she looked at the marbles.
She didn't know any airbending moves. No one did. Her abuela had shown one off, one that Pedro had taught her. Of course, no one was able to use it, but it was pretty cool to watch and fun to do. Mirabel took in one last deep breath as she raised her hands. Her movements were fluid, natural even as she moved. As were all of her movements, she practiced all the elements of basic moves at least a million times, and she loved dancing. Bending was a lot like dancing, at least to her. Her hand was closed as she stopped in front of the marbles.
And they moved.
Her eyes widened as she stared at them. They. Moved. She looked at Casita's beams. They were still before something similar to a shrug revealed that Casuta wasn't even sure. Mirabel's arms shook as she once again performed the move. The moved again. They lifted off the table.
"Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh!" Mirabel felt a smile spread across her face as she picked the marbles up. She used her free hand to gently spin a circle around them. The air around them shifted, and they lifted out of her palm and into the air. "Oh my go-" Casita bumped into her feet cutting off. She silenced herself. It was late, that's right. Everyone was asleep, and she didn't want to wake anyone up, especially not little Antonio.
But she could bend! Finally, finally, after all these years. She was right, she was just a late bloomer!
"I have to practice," Mirabel whispered before grabbing the marbles and rushing up to her room. She giggled softly as she sat on her bed. She decided not to tell her family yet. She would wait until the next morning. In the meantime, she was going to practice and practice. Even if it took all night.
Mirabel spun the marbles around and around. It was just so...well she couldn't even describe it. But she was happy. More than happy. She couldn't describe it.
And she couldn't wait to tell her family in the morning.
-----
WHEN THE MARBLES❓
No but I did wanna do something like this. Mirabel bending air is so rad. And she's the only one aince her abuelo who could do it. Now whether Pedro was an Avatar or not is up for debate. If he was, it would make sense how he died, I mean Aang had mad folks after him so.
Idk what do y'all think

Por amor al arte (Julieta x Fem!Reader) part 28
Tumblr media
part1 < > next
song used: Por amor al arte by Ivan Guevara
__________________________
"I just came to warn you that I heard your daughters secreting in the yard" you said casually
“Oh no…what are they planning now?” Julieta sighed, putting another batch of cupcakes in the oven.
"I don't know, I don't have Dolores’ gift" you shrugged "I just came to let you know, so in case something happens, you know it wasn't me"
The brunette looked at you with a smile as you took one of the pastry bags from the table and began to decorate the cake. Today was a big day, it was Eliza's birthday party, her first anniversary. If you were honest, she had actually turned a year old a month ago, but due to the passing of your brother a few weeks earlier, the celebration had been delayed until now.
It was also the day that you and Julieta would finally talk to her daughters and tell them the truth about your relationship, which had you on the verge of a mental breakdown due to nerves. The brunette had done everything possible to assure you that everything would be fine, that Isabela would be excited for sure and Luisa and Mirabel adored you. In the very unlikely case that they didn't accept it at first, they eventually would.
But you could see behind her facade. You only had to look into her eyes to see the deep fear she felt as well. She didn't want her daughters to think badly of her, to believe that she was trying to replace their father. She didn't want them to hate her. And then you would spring into action, assuring her that no matter what, her three daughters loved her and nothing was going to change that.
So here the two of you were, trying to support each other when you knew perfectly well the other was scared to death as well. A great couple, really.
"Allow me" she said, trying to take the pastry bag from your hand.
“Ah-ah” you said, walking away from her “my daughter, my cake”
“I made the cake” she crossed her arms
"Which means I get to decorate it!" you argued “how hard can it be to make jingle bells and caterpillars?”
“They look like potatoes, not caterpillars, Y/N”
“If you are going to be insulting my art, get out of my kitchen, Madrigal”
"It's MY kitchen, Y/L/N" the brunette told you, outraged "And give me that, you're going to stain the cake"
“I will if you keep moving me!”
“Y/N!”
"Julieta!"
"Niñas!"
You two jumped and looked embarrassed while Alma looked at you with her typical strict mother look and a very amused Pepa laughed behind her. You looked out of the corner of your eye to see Julieta blushing at being caught being childish. She was adorable.
"I can’t believe it. You two can't be alone for a moment without fighting? One would think that would come after marriage” the redhead winked at you
"Pepa!" Julieta grunted, blushing more, but it only made her sister laugh louder.
“Very well, save the teasing for later. We have many things to finish and the guests are almost here” Alma interrupted “Pepa, help your sister with the cake, Y/N and I will take care of the cupcakes” she winked at you
"Yes!" you jumped, happy that they let you decorate something.
"Yes, mom" The sisters answered in unison.
The four of you got down to business, with you and Alma making more frosting for the cupcakes while Pepa and Julieta decorated the cake. You heard laughter from outside and you smiled as you looked out the window and saw Félix, Mariano, and Bruno with buckets on their heads, making Eliza laugh, jumping on Dolores's lap. When Camilo entered the kitchen a few moments later and began to help his mother and aunt, you couldn't help but feel a warm feeling wash over you.
They were your family, no matter what would happen later with Julieta's daughters. You only hoped that Karim, Agustín, and Aharhel were watching this from heaven.
________________________________
"Luisa, stay still!" Isabela scolded "You're going to make me ruin your makeup"
"Sorry, I'm nervous"
“We all are, but we need this to work out. For mom” Mirabel reminded her.
"I know, I know, I'm sorry"
Mirabel took her sister's hand while Isabela finished her makeup. The three of them were in Toñito's room, getting ready for the surprise they had prepared, while the boy was in charge of watching the door so that no one surprised them, especially you or Julieta. They knew they should probably be helping out with the party, but there were already enough hands and this was of the utmost importance.
With everything that had happened, they never seemed to find the perfect time to use Karim's song. However, when you announced that you wanted to celebrate Eliza's birthday and that you were ready, Isabela knew that this would be a perfect time. She didn't want to take the attention away from the girl, but she knew that if it wasn't now, maybe she and her sisters wouldn't have the courage to do it later.
And boy did they need courage.
The plan was simple in theory: sing Karim's song, make you and their mother realize that you love each other, be a happy family. But bringing it to reality had been much more difficult. First, they had to find the perfect melody for the lyrics (who knew that Camilo would be the one to do it?), then they had to practice it until they knew it by heart.
Perhaps what made them nervous the most was your reaction. They knew that their mother loved you and it was obvious that you loved her too, but what about them? Sure, you were very kind to them and had given them so much, they even saw Eliza as a sister and knew that she was already a daughter to their mother. But would you love them as daughters too? They really hoped so.
"Alright, I’m done" Isabela said
"I almost wish you had taken longer" Luisa admitted.
"Come on, everything will be alright" Mirabel smiled, even though she could feel her heart beating strongly.
"Yes, and when they get married, I'll be the maid of honor" the oldest commented
"Why you?" Mirabel crossed her arms.
“Because I will decorate everything and make the most beautiful flowers for them”
"So what? I'll make their dresses, which is more important than the flowers, so I should be the maid of honor."
“They can buy dresses anywhere else, Mirabel, but my flowers are unique”
“They are just flowers, Isa, they will dry in two days”
“Not on my watch”
Luisa rolled her eyes, before standing in the middle of her sisters to break up the discussion. She was happy that Isabela and Mirabel were back on good terms, but that meant they talked to each other more and that in turn ended in more arguments. Typical sister stuff, she supposed.
“Enough you two. First, we have to get them together, then we see who will be the maid of honor” she said, amused.
Isabela and Mirabel crossed their arms and stuck out their tongues at each other, frowning. After a few moments of silence, the two broke out laughing and hugged their middle sister. It was good to know that no matter what happened today, they had each other.
"Okay, let's get out of here" Mirabel said "showtime!"
Isabela watched her sisters leave Antonio's room, staying behind for a moment. She sighed and closed her eyes to "talk" to Karim for a moment, as she used to do whenever she needed encouragement.
“It's your song, Karim” she whispered “You made it for her…please, please help us today…And Dad, if you're listening too…I hope you don't think we're replacing you. We never would! But I know you would want Mom and us to move on. So, if you can, help us too. They both deserve to be happy."
______________________________
"Mamá!" Eliza laughed and pointed to the rainbow above her.
You smiled from your place, several meters away, while you watched Pepa and Félix dance with your daughter. Casita was full and Isabela had been very kind to lend her room for the party since it was Eliza's favorite (after Julieta's, although Eli loved any room where her mamá Juli was). People were enjoying themselves and dancing, and you had already had to go to the kitchen for more sandwiches three times.
Alma had been looking at you with pride and affection since the party started and you had even managed to drag Bruno onto the dance floor a couple of times. The only thing you were worried about was the Madrigal grandchildren.
Dolores had excused herself for a moment, saying she needed to rest from the noise, while Camilo quickly took Anotnio away without saying anything. And of Julieta's daughters, there was no trace. Yes, you saw them for a moment at the beginning of the party, and you were a little surprised to see the dresses they were wearing, matching Eliza's (which had been Mirabel's gift), but you hadn't seen them since you saw Isabela whispering something to her sisters and the three of them had slipped away.
It worried you. You and Julieta knew that time was running out. No matter how much you were enjoying your daughter's party, you knew that with every passing minute, that much-needed talk was getting closer.
"Are you okay?" Julieta asked, putting a hand on your shoulder.
"Yes, just... I don't feel good about the way Camilo smiled at me before running away from here" you said
"I know what you mean" she smiled "definitely planning something"
"And I'll be the target" you shuddered falsely "I feel like I'm in danger around here"
"Don't worry, stay with me, I'll protect you"
You laughed softly and gave her a quick hug. Of course, she would protect you, it was what she had been doing for a long, long time, what you two had been doing ever since you met.
"What would I do without you, my knight in shining armor?" you mocked her
"Probably ruin cakes" she laughed.
"Hey! The caterpillars were looking good! And I only ruined three cupcakes” you defended yourself
"It’s okay, at least your plates and paints are beautiful, mi amor- Y/N!" she corrected herself quickly, blushing and looking around to make sure no one had heard her slip.
You laughed and rolled your eyes fondly. In truth, you cared very little what people thought of you, and she knew that as soon as her daughters gave you permission to date their mother, she could say goodbye to her name, you would only call her sweet and cheesy nicknames. It was a warning that the brunette had accepted. But seeing her blushing was always cute.
You were about to tease her a bit when you saw the Madrigal grandchildren coming back out of the corner of your eye. Luisa was carrying the piano, while Camilo was carrying a guitar and Dolores was leading a very excited Antonio by the hand. You looked at Julieta and she shrugged, not knowing what was going on either.
You two split up so you could get closer to the family, who were gathering near the dance floor. Mirabel called everyone to pay attention and Isabela shyly approached you, holding something behind her back.
"I know this party is to celebrate our Eliza's first anniversary" Mirabel said, smiling at the girl in her aunt's arms "But if you'll let us, we have a surprise for you too, Y/N"
You frowned in confusion. A surprise for you? That was what these precious rascals had been planning? Isabela showed you what she had behind her and you gasped as you recognized your brother's charred and battered notebook. Where had she gotten it from?
“I…found this when we cleaned your house” the girl explained “I'm sorry I didn't give it to you then, I was going to, really! But then I read…something, and I knew I had to wait for the right moment. I hope when you hear this you can forgive me."
"Isabela" you heard Julieta scold her a few meters from you, but you were not upset, but intrigued.
"Hear what?" you asked, taking the notebook with trembling hands.
“He had one last message for you, Y/N” the girl smiled at you “would you let us…sing it to you?”
You rolled your eyes fondly. Of course it was a song, your brother had had the soul of an artist just like you, even though his work rarely allowed him a moment of rest to write. You smiled at the expectant girl in front of you and nodded gently.
"Go ahead" you told her.
Isabela returned your smile and nodded, turning to her sisters and cousins. It amused you to see how the six took their positions, with Luisa on the piano, Camilo on the guitar, and Antonio on the tambourine. You guessed that Mirabel, Isabela, and Dolores were going to sing. It was obvious that everyone had put incredible effort into this and it warmed your heart that they all worked together for you.
Camilo started strumming the guitar (that boy was pure talent, from theater to music, okay?) and you shivered a little when Dolores winked at you and smiled knowingly. Wait, what were they going to do? What kind of message had Karim left you? If it was something embarrassing, you were going to bring him back to life just so you could kill him yourself-
"Por amor al arte"
Mirabel began to sing, interrupting your thoughts.
“They stopped writing stories to tell you
The seas of dreams dried up to wake you up”
You couldn't prevent the thousands of memories from running into your mind, not when you knew that, although it was Mirabel's voice, it was your brother's words. And god knows he had tried to make you forget all the false stories people told you when Daniel left. That it was your fault, that it was natural for him to react like that, that you should give him time and you would see how he would come back, that it was your duty to wait for him as long as necessary.
For a while, you had convinced yourself that it was true, that perhaps if you were good enough, you would deserve that man's forgiveness. It took fate to send you Julieta to wake you up. She showed you how it felt to be truly loved, without conditions, she taught you the life you truly wanted, she gave you true promises, not children's stories.
"Por amor al arte
night became day
Erasing the dark shadow of your loneliness”
Unbeknownst to you, you weren't the only one who was invaded by memories. As Dolores sang, Julieta clearly saw all those moments passing in front of her. From the moment Casita was destroyed, when she was plunged into darkness so thick she almost drowned. Until you walked into her life and reminded her that she could still breathe, that she was still alive.
You showed her how to move on, for her daughters and for herself. When she had felt so useless and helpless for losing her powers, you had been there to remind her that she was much more than her gift, that she was a strong and brave woman, regardless of whether she could heal with food or not. You gave her a new purpose.
"Por amor al arte
The moon came down from the sky to comfort you
The clouds gave way to the sun to illuminate you”
Isabela's voice made the memory change in your mind. She transported you to that night when you had seen Julieta carry Eliza for the first time. You didn't realize it at the time, but you knew now: she had not only comforted your daughter that night, but that was the moment when she had planted the seed of your love for her.
Even though the brunette had been shattered at the time, she had managed to make the clouds in your life, the mist that had enveloped you ever since you lost Aharhel, dissipate. Even when that mist threatened to return when your brother died, Julieta had been there to stop it. She was the sun that illuminated your life and gave you warmth to continue living.
"Por amor al arte
Your life was no longer so cold
And you stopped feeling empty because of your loneliness”
Julieta gently touched the thin chain with the ring that hung around her neck, while Mirabel resumed the song. It was still a mystery to her how you had managed to rekindle the fire in her that went out when she lost Agustín. It wasn't something she would have thought possible, but the universe proved her wrong when it permanently left you in her life.
You showed her that she wasn't broken, that it was okay to move on. You got rid of the loneliness that threatened to consume her and reminded her heart to keep beating. You showed her that she could love again.
"Por amor al arte
You cried tears of fear until drying yourself
You put aside every doubt to go for it”
Dolores couldn't help but stare at her aunt as she sang that verse. She knew that her cousins and her brother were thinking the same thing, remembering that afternoon when Isabela had confronted her sisters about you. The heartbreaking way her aunt had cried hadn't left Dolores's memory yet and she didn't think it ever would. There had been so much fear in her second mother's voice, fear of loving you.
That was why she couldn't help but feel proud of her aunt now. The older woman had put aside all her fears and she had launched herself into pursuing her happiness with you, even when things had gotten out of control and you had run away after your first kiss, the woman had not given up. It was something for which Dolores deeply admired her aunt.
"Por amor al arte
you knew how to carry on
Breaking at last the chains of your loneliness”
You smiled and felt that it was a matter of time before the tears came. Maybe it was Isabela who was singing, but you could perfectly hear Karim saying those same words. He always told you how much he admired you and how proud he was of you for raising Eliza on your own.
But you also knew that the phrase applied to the destruction of both houses, even though he had been in a coma the entire time after the fire. You had been able to get up, rise from the ashes, as painful as it was, because Julieta was by your side. And when you'd agreed to stay with them, even in the midst of your pain, it had truly felt like breaking chains you didn't know were binding you.
The three girls glanced at each other and smiled. They didn't care much that the crowd and the rest of the family were clapping and cheering for them, this song wasn't for them, it was for you. And they hoped, as they prepared to sing in three voices, that after these verses, the story would be sealed.
“And she appeared in your life
the girl of your dreams
another wounded princess
And she healed your hell”
Julieta finally looked at you, although you still had your eyes on the girls, and she couldn't help but shudder at the wave of feelings that invaded her, of which the main one was love, pure and sincere love for you. She always knew you were her angel, you had healed her in ways even her magical food couldn't.
You really had rescued her from hell, despite being just as broken as she was. It was a blessing that her broken pieces fit perfectly with yours.
"Because you didn't know
That even if you were born a princess
You didn't want a Romeo
You were waiting for Julieta”
You turned your head towards the brunette, surprised to see that she was already looking at you, with contained tears in her eyes. You smiled a little, trying your hardest not to cry as you approached her. So long wishing you weren't alone, foolishly waiting for Daniel or some other man to rescue you, when all this time fate had been pushing you to her, waiting for you to open your eyes. She was everything you wanted, everything you needed. You wanted a life with her.
Julieta stared at you as you took one of her hands and caressed her knuckles with your thumb. You could feel people's attention drifting away from the girls to the two of you, but you didn't care. You only cared about her.
"I guess we don't need that talk after all" you whispered.
"Guess we don’t" she laughed softly, looking into your eyes.
“No one knew how to explain to you why you loved her
That the man of your life was called María
But listen to me, my friend
If she wants to love you too
No need to keep thinking
Es por amor al arte.”
She smiled at you, taking your face in her hands and caressing your cheeks with her thumbs. Her chocolate eyes were looking at you with a thousand questions but you just nodded slightly, putting your hands on her hips and all doubt was erased from her mind as she pulled you to her for a kiss. You didn't hear the applause of the people, or when the song ended.
All you could hear was your heart, in sync with hers.

it’s kind of wild to me that after mirabel didn’t get a gift the madrigals still decided to have a big party and invite the whole town to watch antonio’s ceremony. like, i don’t know about y’all, but if the first seven descendants of a family got magic powers and then the eighth one didn’t, I wouldn’t assume that the magic went “fuck that one kid in particular,” i’d figure the whole thing ran outta juice. like, sorry gang, we only had enough magic for seven of you! the rest of y’all’s future kids or whatever are shit outta luck!
it just feels like a really big gamble to be like “no yeah sure it’s totally gonna work this time! no everybody come watch!!” and yeah, it worked out. but what if it hadn’t? why would you not do the ceremony with just the family and then do the party the next day if it worked out?
and in fact, now that i’m on the subject, why was the family all so sure antonio was going to get a gift? like, i get that it’s like, what’s supposed to happen, or whatever. but clearly it doesn’t happen every time! again, i can’t imagine jumping to the conclusion that “oh the magic just hates that one five year old, it’ll work out next time” over the idea that the magic just ran out somehow. there’s nothing different about mirabel to suggest that it’s on her somehow either. her sisters got it, so it’s not an issue with julieta’s kids. it’s not like a “there can only be three each generation because it was triplets the first time” thing, because it worked for camilo. it’s not a gender thing, like there has to be two girls to one boy, like the triplets, because it worked for luisa. it’s not a spacing thing, like the magic can only do one gift a year or whatever, because it worked for the triplets and for isabella and dolores.
and there’s no difference between mirabel and antonio to suggest he’s somehow different! like, yeah, his mom and siblings all got gifts, but so did mirabel’s and she still got skipped! if anything, the only thing mirabel has different from anyone else in the family is that she’s a youngest child (assuming you’re not counting bruno because triplets). but so is antonio!! if anything, that supports the idea of him not getting a gift! and bruno peaced out after mirabel’s ceremony, so it’s not like he peeked and said “oh no yeah we’re all good this kid’s getting one.”
absolutely nobody had any business thinking antonio would just get his gift like normal after mirabel didn’t get one, and if you get a miracle, you should not be assuming you understand how it works after eight rounds with mixed results.

Ideas for continuing shorts/a show based on Encanto
Okay so Encanto came out and it is doing really really well, like a lot of people are calling it the best thing Disney has done in very long time... so naturally Disney wants to turn it into a whole franchise. Once upon a time that would have just meant at least 2 sequel movies and a ton of dolls/cloths. Well they are selling the dolls/cloths, and we may some day get the sequels. But in the age of streaming and Disneyplus there is talk of Disney first doing a series of shorts or possibly even a show. I love both those ideas and here is some what I would like to see.
The creators tweeted that Casita has only 1 bathroom and all 12 Madrigal fight over time in it. Make a short on that.
They also said that Felix and Agustin are good friends and, since they have no powers, are basically SAHD' as well as doing the majority of the house work. Give me a day in their life.
I want flashbacks to when the triplets were growing up and what things were like back when it was just them and Alma inside Casita. On that note it occurs to me that their next birthday will be the first one all three have celebrated toghter in atleast 10 years, and I NEED everybody in the family (cough* the town*cough) to make a big deal out of that.
Show me Bruno trying to get to know his nieces and nephews. I want them to all watch/perform his telanovas together and bond. Also my personal headcannon is that 7foot rat-man Bruno was like Camilo's favorite piece of fanfiction, and Bruno gets worried that maybe Camilo won't like the real him. But once Camilo finds out his Uncle is a performer, and a card, he, much to Pepa's dread, starts to freaking worship him and always wants to be around him.
I would like some flashbacks and a bit more background as to what Alma and Pedro's relationship was like. Maybe have it be their anniversary or Pedro's birthday, and Alma is really reminesant over him. Her family get worried she is falling back into depression, so they ask her to tell them about some of her happiest times with Pedro, and them try to recreate them for her.
Okay so I would prefer if shorts where used to flesh out characters who got less screen time in the movie ( Agustine, Camilo, Dolores, etc) and don't want Mirabel to be the main focus of them all...but we'll I think its cool that she loves and is really good at embroidery and sewing. Since the movie didn't really give focus to these hobbies I would like a short or an episode of her wanting to make something really special and getting a case of artist block. Have her relatives do a bunch of things with her to try and help her get inspired. The girl deserves to get some support as opposed to always being the one to give it.
I want Luisa to adopt pets, either rescue a bag of abandoned kittens ,or maybe one of the donkeys she takes care of gives birth to a runt the rancher doesn't want and is planing to get rid of. But Luisa steps in and says she wants it. Have Luisa try to train them and make them really strong, but for them to get tired and decide to rest. Luisa gives in and just curls up with them for a break.
It's like the 5th rainy day this week, and everybody is stuck inside and acting really board. Camilo tries to start a house wide prank war to keep everybody (including Casita) entertained. Shenanigans ensure.
Flesh out Dolores and Mariono's relationship (no babies yet). They are implied to be each others true loves, but what is them dating like? Does Dolores help him with his poetry? What are her interests? Maybe do something where a big milestone is coming up and it seems like Mariano doesn't have anything planed so Dolores decides she will plan a special date. But it turns out Mariano did plan something for that evening, he just been nonverbal about it so he could surprise her, and they wind up surprising each other.
Antonio discovering uses for his powers. It occurs to me that he would understand pets. Someone suggested that dead goldfish lady might be Felix's bio sister; they look kind of alike and she is one of the few villagers who makes casual visits (not just for a party) to Casita. What if while babysitting him she mentions having a new fish that she is worried isn't acting well, so he sticks his finger in the water to bring the fish to the surface and asks it what it needs. Later the pair are shown infront if a brand new pond in her backyard that is full of goldfish, with Antonio telling her they are all very happy. Off in the distance you see a line of people and their pets wanting to see Antonio and ask if their is anything they could do better.
I know some people like to headcannon Isabela as lesbian. I am not going to give people grief for that as long as they acknowledge that is a headcannon, and in cannon she had other, still completely valid, reasons for not wanting to marry Mariano (not being in love with him, not having explored enough of herself and her power yet). I also do think the decision to leave Bubo (her true love) out from the first movie, and having her make decisions based on herself was a good one. But the Bubo in drawings and the deleted scene (well part of the deleted scene, I could do without the more explicitly part) seems like a really funny character, and I would like him to be introduced as long as it was done in a way that didn't impend on Isabela's growth or self discovery. He is clearly supposed to be knowledgeable when it comes to the jungle. Maybe she is having trouble caring for all her new plants, and Dolores hears Bubo wandering around the jungle studying plants, just outside the Encanto. So Lusia and Mirabel go get him and ask him to teach Isabela about the different types of plant needs.
Might be controversial but I would really love a short where the Madrigals are getting ready for/ celebrating traditional Columbia Catholic holidays. Yes they are confirmed to be Catholic.

Let's Get One Thing Straight:
Agustin Madrigal does not give a single FUCK about the family miracle. The only miracles he cares about are his three little girls.
This man is one of the best (if not THE BEST) Disney dad. He supports all three of his daughters in different ways.
At the beginning of the movie, we seem him offer Mirabel support on what he believes will be a really hard, emotional day (and he's not wrong), despite the fact that he is absolutely COVERED in bee stings. His entire face and hands are swollen and his wife is just like "not again, Agustin!" and goes off to make him food, but does this man care? Not one ounce. His focus is Mirabel and making sure that she feels okay and that she's not alone (he even mentions, hey Felix and I don't have Gifts and we're fine).
Throughout the movie, he stands up for his daughters and tries to comfort them.
After the failed proposal, when Mirabel is being blamed and Isabela is angry, he runs after Luisa, who is openly crying and calling herself a loser. All three of his daughters are upset, but Isabela and Mirabel can take care of themselves for the moment, he believes, because his middle daughter, who rarely shows any emotion (from what I've gathered, anyway) is crying and being down on herself.
And you just know Agustin sat with her for as long as it took to make her genuinely laugh or smile, telling her all the best things that he loves about her, holding her hand, or just hugging her (I have no doubt this man gives the best dad hugs in the world). Hell, I bet Luisa is a daddy's girl, because that piano scene at Antonio's party was fricking adorable, okay?
Hell, he probably had plans to go talk to Isabela and Mirabel after talking with Luisa and making sure his middle daughter was okay. He probably talked to her about her power and all the stress she's under from Abuela and the village.
My headcanon is that Agustin is from out of town, so he didn't grow up with this miracle like everybody else in the village did. He just happened to fall in love with a magical girl and had some magical children with her. No big deal. First and foremost, he wants his children to know that they are loved and perfect just the way they are, powers or no powers.
So he tells Luisa that he'll love her no matter what, that her mother and her sisters will love her no matter what, that their family will love her no matter what. It takes a lot of convincing for Luisa to actually believe his words, but when she finally does, she gives him a bone-crushing hug (probably literally) and he kisses her forehead and calls her mijita (even though she is now so much bigger than the first time he held her in his arms, she's his baby) and tells her that he's always around if she just needs to talk.
Luisa will eventually take him up on that and they turn it into a Thing, where they'll sit for hours and talk or have a Papa/Hija Day at least twice a month so that she gets some time to chill away from all the people who want her to do stuff for them. Luisa will try to just do this one thing to help out, but Agustin stops her and tells whomever to just buzz off because he's spending time with Luisa on her Day Off.
Now, somebody had this headcanon that Agustin was some kind of gardener or something in the past and I love it, because it may have influenced his eldest's Gift. I can imagine little infant Isa strapped to Agustin's back as he works in the Casita garden, growing herbs for Julieta's recipes and flowers to spruce up the house. He talks to baby Isa about each flower and what they do or symbolize and makes flower chains to put in her hair. She continues to help him as a toddler, watering the plants and learning how to make her own flower chains.
When her Gift is making flowers, Agustin is the only one who isn't so much surprised as he is touched the he could have influenced her power like this. For a few more years afterward, he continues to teach Isabela about each new flower that she grows. He tells her all the names of the flowers that aren't exactly native to Colombia and how they might affect the environment. He marvels at the quality of the flowers his child produces and is actually the first to call them perfect. Of course, Abuela runs with this and starts putting the pressure on Isa to be perfect in all matters of life. Agustin definitely hates this immediately, because it doesn't take a long time for Isabela to start changing herself to fit the mold Abuela has made out for her and he can see the way his nine-year-old straightens her back the second her grandmother is in her line of sight. It breaks his heart, so every now and then he visits her room and they play a board game or something to take the stress off. He may even plan picnics for her and her sisters to evade chores.
When Mirabel is born, he is just officially a Girldad, and he absolutely loves it. By this time, Julieta cooks almost nonstop so he's got all his girls around him. Mirabel strapped to his back and Isa and Luisa holding his hands as they walk together through town on days where he believes the older two can skip chores (despite Abuela's obvious disapproval). They're often joined by Felix, Dolores, and baby Camilo, who is just a tiny bit older than Mira. They have picnics and play games and just allow their kids to be kids.
Both Agustin and Felix grew up without powers, with the ability to go out and play whenever they wanted, when their totally non-magic-related chores were finished. But Luisa is six and already lifting heavy objects (and donkeys) for the villagers every single day and he can see that she's stressed out. Isabela is nine and provides flowers for every special occasion the villagers can think of. Husbands, fiances, and boyfriends come to her for extravagant bouquets to bring to their significant others practically every single day. She fills the halls of the casita with flowers, as well, and Abuela is constantly quizzing her. He can tell she's exhausted by it all. Even poor Dolores has pieces of linen stuck in her ears to dim all the conversations she can hear, day in and day out.
Agustin meets Felix's eye and knows that he is just as concerned for their children as Agustin is. But what can they do? The family was given a miracle years ago and they use that to help others. Their children are helping others.
Mirabel and Camilo will one day have gifts, they think. Agustin wonders what his daughter's will be. She likes flowers, like Isabela, but he doesn't think she'll get the same power. She also likes to sit in Alma's lap sometimes while she does her embroidery. She loves to watch the patterns emerge. Her tiny toddler hands are too tiny to do any of that herself, yet, but perhaps when she's a bit older, it will tie in to her gift. Camilo just likes to bug his older sister and cousins by copying everything they do and making faces at them. Agustin ruffles his curly hair and he giggles. He doesn't like to think about the day they'll each get their Gifts and all the scrutiny they'll be under from that day forward.
When Mirabel doesn't get a gift, Agustin feels guilty that his first reaction is relief. Guilty because of the look on his daughter's face. Guilty because of the look on his mother-in-law's face. Guilty because he knows what it feels like to be an outsider in this family, in this town. He and Julieta are the first to embrace their daughter, who has tears swimming in her eyes.
"What did I do wrong?" she asks, her voice small and chin quivering. "What did I do wrong?"
"Nothing, Mariboo," he whispers in her ear as he kisses her temple. "You did absolutely nothing wrong." He looks to his mother-in-law, imploring her to say the same, but she's already walking away, making a beeline for Bruno, whose face is ashen.
Of course the only thing she cares about is the miracle, he thinks, bitterly, as he soothes his daughter. Of course.
But Bruno is gone by the next morning. His door is no longer glowing. Nobody can find him, not even Dolores with her super hearing. He must have gone too far in the night, Agustin thinks. He finds himself a bit jealous that his brother-in-law has escaped the encanto. Not that he would ever abandon his family.
No, he wants to bring them with him, to get away from here. To leave Alma alone with her encanto.
He never says this to anybody but Julieta because she is the only one he can really confide in. She gets it, but she loves her mother and this village too much to leave, no matter how much stress she's constantly under.
So they stay and Agustin checks in with his daughters regularly, trying to make sure that they're all okay. He knows that Luisa is often stressed, which is why he tells her lame dad jokes when he's around, just to make her giggle and roll her eyes. He does the same with Isabela, but also requests the odd flower (like very odd, challengingly odd) to give to her mother. He always wears a flower she gives him in his vest pocket and keeps it there until it dies, then he preserves them to keep forever. He has a collection of his daughter's preserved flowers. The flowers consistently attract bees, but he can live with a few stings just to see the way his daughter's eyes light up when she sees a flower sticking out of his pocket.
With Mirabel, he has a bit of a special connection. They're both Gift-less, so he checks in with her a lot more to make sure that she never feels inferior. Like Julieta, he makes sure that Mirabel knows, without a doubt, that she is just as special as anybody else in their family. His nickname for her is Miraboo, which began when he used to play peek-a-boo with her as a baby ("Mira....boo!") and it just stuck.
So, during the movie, the fact that he stands up more for his daughter, who is constantly scapegoated by others in the family, is amazing. When Alma says "Think of the family!" and he says, "I was thinking of my daughter!" I wanted to fucking CHEER for this man.
But I was in a theater full of children, so I held back.
Anyway, Agustin Madrigal (who, by the way, let me commend these men for taking their wives' names, KINGS) is very important and a very good dad and husband who loves his immediate family and will never take any bullshit from Alma Madrigal and I love him.
