say it back !! | steven universe x reader
Tumblr media
As you collapsed on the living room couch, you couldn't help but feel exhausted. However, your love for Steven gave you the motivation to wake up early every morning and prepare breakfast for him, as well as pack his lunch. You had been doing this for him ever since you found out he had been subsisting on just protein during his work hours. He had initially insisted that he was fine without your help, but you knew better and persisted. He had been grateful to you every single day since then.
"Y/n, do you know where I put my keys?" Steven called out from his bedroom. You could hear him rummaging through various closets and dressers. You smiled and shook your head.
"Have you checked your pockets, Steven?" you asked. His hands immediately went to his jacket and pants pockets and he found his keys. He laughed at his own forgetfulness. You had always known him so well and complimented him frequently.
"I found them!" he called out as he made his way to the front door.
"Alright, Steven. Have a good day! See you later!" you called back from the couch, not moving an inch.
"Bye, y/n! Love you!" Steven said.
"..." You didn't respond. Steven was halfway through the door but he paused when he heard no reply. He tried again.
"I love you, y/n! Bye!"
"...bye, Steven!" you replied. However, he peeked back inside the front door, still yearning for a certain response.
"Y/n! I love youu! Bye..! I'm really leaving now!" he called out again.
"Haha, okay Steven, bye!" You sat up on the couch and waved at Steven, amused.
"Y/n..." He huffed, coming back inside the house and making his way over to you. His arms effortlessly wrapped around you, pulling you into a loving embrace. "...why won't you say it back..?"
"Say what, Steven?" you smiled, knowing exactly what you were doing and finding his reaction to be quite adorable.
"You know..." He pulled away slightly to give you a small peck on the lips, causing your face to flush pink. "...say it back." He tucked a few loose strands of hair behind your ear, making you scream in joy internally. You kissed him back and smiled, finally breathing the words he had been longing to hear.
"I love you too, Steven."

[Before the fallen]
Angel!Lucifer : —and then we’ll be done. It’s going to be easy!
Knight!Y/N : There’s got to be another way. I mean, maybe—
Angel!Lucifer : Father and my siblings, the rest of them.. they don’t care! They never have. We can end it all right here, right now.
Knight!Y/N : You know this is crazy right?
Angel!Lucifer, nods :
Knight!Y/N : Your status, my purpose— none of it will matter anymore
Angel!Lucifer, nods more excitedly :
Knight!Y/N : This will change everything
Angel!Lucifer : I know, isn’t it so exciting?!
Knight!Y/N, sighed but smile : ..yes, it is
Angel!Lucifer, holds their hands : We can leave our old lives behind. I want to live here with human beings! I wanna live here with you! We'll both finally be free!
Knight!Y/N : ..okay, I’m ready.
Angel!Lucifer, tearing up : Thank you, my dove.
Knight!Y/N : Anything for you, your high— I mean— my Lucifer?
Angel!Lucifer, laughs :

as for this one-shot (which was originally supposed to be a drabble), i chose stevie to break me back into posting because i love him and he’s steve and i just love fluffy and adorable steve so much. this idea just flowed in as i wrote and i sort of love how it turned out, so i really hope you enjoy! feedback of any sort is always appreciated ♡

steve didn’t usually sleep in. never really had the habit of doing so, and his job with s.h.i.e.l.d. never really allowed him the opportunity either. but it had somehow started happening since he started spending the nights with you. maybe it was the fact that he had finally gotten a free day on the weekend or that he was simply too tired from his last mission. nevertheless, mornings with steve were pretty much one of your favourite ways to begin your days.
so it was pretty weird when you woke up and found steve in bed at 9 a.m., curled up into you and still asleep. the sun streamed in from the window behind him, covering him in sunshine and god, was he beautiful. your breath hitched at the sight of his peaceful expression— no furrows between his eyebrows and no frown twisting his lips— and made the decision to let him sleep in for as long as he wanted and whenever he wanted. you were rather well acquainted with steve’s bad habit for not stopping until he’d run himself completely ragged. sometimes not even then. he could use all the sleep he got.
but you just couldn’t resist pressing your hand to his cheek, thumb gently— just barely caressing the dark bags under his eye. steve hummed lowly but did not seem to stir from his sleep and, pulling your hand away before he could wake, you moved to gently untangle yourself from him.
breakfasts with steve were also an uncommon occurrence with the unpredictability of his job, but the both of you cherished and made the most of every time you got to do things together. even the mundane ones like this.
but just as you began to move, a strong hand tightened around your waist, pulling you back into a firm chest. “where do you think you’re going, sweetheart?”
goddamit.
your heart lurched at the sound of his voice— deep and rich, rough and tired from his sleep. you couldn’t stop a smile pulling at your lips as you turned back around to face him. “good morning stevie,” you hummed quietly, hand raising to press against his cheek.
steve tightened his arm around your waist until you were pressed up entirely into him, and then pressed his face into the crook of your neck. “good morning my love,” he mumbled, “care to tell me why you were abandoning me in bed like this?”
you huffed a laugh. it wasn’t a long shot to say steve got a bit dramatic sometimes, usually when it was just the two of you and especially when he was fishing for some love. “hush, you big baby. i just wanted to go get breakfast started.”
“breakfast can wait, i wanna stay in bed with you for a bit longer.” he moved his face and brushed his nose against yours, before pecking your lips softly. “please y/n/n?”
the world could’ve been coming to an end, and with the way steve was looking at you— golden hair mussed from sleep, the prettiest blue eyes still sleepy but soft as they gazed upon you, and his lips pulled into a tiny pout— there was no way in hell you would’ve refused him.
“alright darling, we can stay in for as long as you want.”
his hand squeezed your hips in thanks before he pressed his face into her hair. he inhaled, his strong chest rising and falling under her hands, and then he spoke, “i hate that we don't get more of such mornings. i can’t get enough of you like this. when there’s no hurry for me to rush somewhere, when it’s just the two of us.”
you sighed quietly. you knew how much steve hated not being able to spend enough time with you because of his job. he always beat himself up over missed dates, movie nights and the time lost, despite you knowing steve couldn’t help it and never giving him any grief over it. besides, you knew steve would never be able to rest without having done his best to help in any situation. that was one of the traits that simply made him so special. something that made him him. plus, he never missed any chance to make up for it, and damn did he do a good job at it.
“i know, my love.” you moved so you could look him in the eyes, rubbing his hands over his shoulders and biceps. “someday, we will get all the time we want for ourselves. but until then, i don’t mind sharing you with the world a bit longer.”
he smiled softly. “i love you, y'know that?”
you hummed your reply and pressed closer before putting your lips to his in a soft kiss. steve made a soft sound in his chest that had your heart lurching in your chest. his hand skimmed up and down your back, fingers spreading wide over the fabric of the t-shirt you’d stolen from him, before they finally settled on your waist again. his fingers scrunched your t-shirt, pulling you impossibly closer as the kiss grew heated; another sound leaving him, this one louder, as your fingers found his hair, nails scratching gently at his scalp. the sound jolted you out of the trance steve’s touch never failed to put you in. you gasped as you pulled your lips from his and ignoring steve’s unhappy whine, you settled back into the mattress after putting some distance between your faces.
“is this why you’ve been trying to keep me in your bed, captain?” you murmured, swiping your thumb on steve’s lower lip as you looked up at him coyly. if staying in bed is what he wanted, you could at least tease him a bit first.
he groaned quietly, squeezing his eyes shut tightly after eyeing the smirk pulling at your lips. what was he doing playing a game he knew he’d never win?
“i was only hopin’ for some snuggles from my best girl,” he murmured, tucking some hair out of your eyes. “but you know i’d be the last person to say no to more, sweetheart.”
“mhm, i see that with your eagerness.” you laughed finally, leaning up to press kisses across his cheeks. hearing a big, burly man like steve ask for snuggles was just enough to crack your resolve. "you can have your snuggles, stevie."
steve chuckled as he pulled you closer and on top of him, and the sound filled your heart with so much love you could feel it vibrating throughout your entire body.
yeah, mornings with steve were definitely your favourite way to start your days.

— flufftober (day 15) —
Warnings: fluff, bruise, Steve (you’ll see why he’s a warning)
Prompt: Wearing Each Other’s Clothes (alt3)
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
@flufftober || flufftober masterlist
A/N: A quick blurb that I thought was funny. Enjoy!
The kitchen was eerily quiet this morning when Steve awoke for his daily run. Tony had been staying with Pepper for a while now, waiting for their little girl to arrive. Natasha and Sam had gone for a stealth mission and were due to be back tomorrow night. You and Bucky were either still asleep, wrapped up in each other, or were already gone to train.
Steve’s lips curled up when he noticed Bucky’s back facing him, hood brought up over his head and the clinking telling him that Bucky was having cereal for breakfast. He quieted his steps as a mischievous idea formed in his brain. He took the last few steps towards him and lifted his arm to give him a little hard pat on the back.
“G’morning, Bucky,” Steve greeted with the strong pat on his back. Bucky’s figure jostled and a quiet gasp escaped his lips. Steve chuckled and added, “What? Did I hit you too hard? Getting weak, huh?”
Steve’s eyes widened when your face swivelled around to glare at him.
“I’m not Bucky, Steve,” you wheezed out, eyebrows pinched in both pain and annoyance. “And I’m definitely not a super-soldier.”
You muttered some curse words under your breath as you glared at him harshly once more. You took your cereal bowl, sliding off the stool and heading away with the finger shown to him.
Steve exhaled and swore he would always check if it was you or Bucky. Speaking of whom, Steve better start hiding because he knew you would bruise with the pat he gave you and Bucky would definitely see it. Knowing how much Bucky was in love with you, Steve knew better than to show his face to him for a few days.
Never again would he be doing that.

Fixing Mistakes ☾ Steven Grant × Female!Reader
Request: no, but they're open for everyone i write for :)
Warnings: donna being donna, marc pops up at the end
note: this has been done a few times before, so im sorry. i just like the idea
credits to @missdictatorme since her fic titled The Shades of the Moon is about steven getting the job as a tour guide. it is smut, so don't read it unless you're 18+
Tumblr media
He was nervous to say the least. Donna said the new owner of the museum was making an appearance since she wanted to help them with their employees. He asked Donna about it, and she shrugged. "Might lose your job, Stevie."
So here he was, a nervous wreck while cashing out a customer. Yeah, he wasn't going to lie, as much as he didn't like working in the giftshop, he did like working at the museum. Sadly, he knew that if what Donna said was true, it was because of the number of times he was late. Then it hit him.
Wasn't the owner a man?
He shook his head and began organizing the small figures of the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses when the sound of heels made him confused as he knew one of them were Donna's, but the other was different. "Stevie! This is (Y/N). Her grandfather left her the museum after he passed away." You held your hand out while glancing at his nametag and smiled. "Nice to meet you, Steven." He took your hand and shook it, feeling his heart race at the sight of you.
Hathor blessed you with beauty, there was no denying that.
You broke the handshake and scan the giftshop. When your eyes fell on the stuffed Taweret, you made a mental note to buy it before leaving. She was honestly too adorable, and you didn't care that they were meant for children. "So, I read through your file and saw that Donna here wrote a little note saying that you wanted to be a tour guide?" He gulped before nodding his head. "Yes, I still do actually." You nodded. "Donna, can you give us a minute alone? Meet me in your office." She left and you look over at Steven. While he did sport dark circles under his eyes and baggy clothing, you thought he was handsome.
"So, it's no secret that you're late. A lot. Can you explain that to me?" You grab one of the plushies and bite your lip to hide your smile. "I-I have a sleeping disorder," Steven let his eyes wander a bit, checking you out before snapping out of it quickly. You hummed at his response before looking back at him, your eyes meeting his dark brown ones. "I trust there's a reason you want to be a tour guide and I know Donna doesn't want you to have it because you hardly come on time, but can I ask why you want to be a tour guide?"
He went ahead and ranted about Egypt, telling you everything that fascinated him which left you speechless. "It's just amazing!" You smiled at him. "I love that you know so much about it, Steven, I do. I can't give you the position though because of your tardiness, you know that right?" The smile on his face faded. "Y-yeah, I know."
"However, can you tell me why Donna calls you Stevie? You two don't seem close for her to give you a nickname, right?" He snorted. "She isn't great with names." You tilt your head to the side. "Steven, J.B calls you Scotty. I would get him not being good with names because he was playing a game on his phone when I walked in. Gave him a warning and told Donna she had to be on top of him for that. You work at the giftshop, and she makes you do inventory with her. How does she not know your name? Haven't you corrected her?" He nodded.
"She's just ignorant then?" He looked down and you sighed. "You know I can't have someone like that working here. I know she wants me to fire you, but honestly, I think you can try being on time more than she could be less ignorant." He chuckled at your words and nodded. "I need you to do something for me though before I tell Donna the news of her termination." HIs eyes widened at your words as you placed the plushie on the counter. "Can you ring me out and maybe try to be on time for, let's say...a week? If so, I'll think about that promotion for you." You sent him a wink, causing him to gasp and nod frantically. "I would love that! Thank you, (Y/N)!" You grin as he handed you the plush along with the receipt after cashing you out.
"No problem, but please don't make me regret this, okay?" He ran out from behind the counter and hugged you. You were surprised, but ultimately decided to hug him back...oh man, these baggy clothes did absolutely nothing but hide the fact that he had muscles. "Thank you thank you thank you." You chuckle before pulling back from the hug with Steven and hugging Taweret. "Just please promise me you'll make the effort to come on time. You'd be a perfect addition to the tour guides." With that, you left the giftshop, making Steven fist pump the air. "Honestly, she's 1,000 times better than Donna. I'll try to make sure you get up on time for now on, okay buddy?" Steven looked at the glass counter and raised a brow at his reflection. "I think we both know she's gorgeous, mate. Do you think she'd be interested?"
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, buddy. I like your suggestion, but patience is a virtue."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<3
Steven woke up with a terrible headache, and stiff limbs. He groaned, holding the back of his head as he got up, eyes scanning his surroundings. The sun was starting to set. There were buildings on both his sides, a dumpster behind him. There was a door on his left, the sign above a flashing red.
“For fuck’s sake.”
It was a bar.
They were in an alleyway.
And Steven couldn’t remember even glimpses of what happened. That was not good. He struggled to stand up, the movement causing his head to spin, as he stumbled over to the wall, holding it for support. Only then, did he register the stinging pain on different parts of his body. His torso, his knuckles, his left eye, his right cheekbone. His eyes scanned the alleyway, he needed a mirror.
“Down here.”
Steven looked down, finding Jake staring back at him through broken pieces of glass. “Do you know?” he asked, his voice breaking, still trying to steady himself.
Jake shook his head, “Nothing at all.”
Steven nodded. One thing was for sure. Marc had gotten drunk. Maybe got into a fight as well.
“Steven. We have to get home.”
“Yeah I - fuck - I know Jake,” he responded. He didn’t know where they were in the first place. He started stumbling towards the street, supporting himself with the wall.
His head was pounding.
He didn’t know how to ask for directions without getting weird looks, or worse, having the police called on him. He checked his pockets, thankfully finding his phone. He took it out, debating on whether he should call you or not. Calling would get him an easy way home, but it would worry you too much.
He fumbled with the phone, realizing that it had a big crack on it.
“I’m gonna kill him,” Jake said from the phone screen.
Steven shook his head, “Something must have triggered it,” he mumbled, turning on the phone.
It was working. 25 missed calls. Over 50 messages. All from you. Asking - begging for any of them to respond. Steven felt terrible, but he didn’t want to call you. He should speak to you, in person.
He turned on the location, opening his maps app, punching in your address.
“Fuck you, Marc.”
He had a long way to go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steven was exhausted by the time he reached the house. The pounding in his head had doubled, and he’d gotten a lot of suspicious looks from strangers.
Of course he did, who wouldn’t think a man with a black eye and bruised knuckles, walking on the streets of Chicago, right after sunset wasn’t a lunatic?
He didn’t know how long it’d been since Marc was home. All he remembers is eating ice cream with you last night. He’d gotten a brain freeze and Marc had taken over. That’s all he knows.
His knuckles burn as he knocks the door. He’s mad at Marc, but he’s worried about you.
The second you open the door, he feels his heart drop. You look tired, a frown plastered on your face, eyes puffy, and hair pulled up in a messy bun. You freeze when you see him, eyes scanning him. He hopes he doesn’t look as terrible as he feels.
“Oh my god, Steven,” you mutter.
You know. You always do.
You take his hand, gently pulling him inside. He tries not to fall on top of you, pushing against the wall for support. He notices how quiet the house is. It’s never this way, and he hates it.
You bend down, and before he knows it, you’re untying his shoes, tugging at the lace. He lets you. Only because he’s too tired to do it himself.
You pull his shoes off, throwing them aside before standing up again. You brush his curls to the side, lightly pressing your fingers to the right side of his face. “We should get you cleaned up,” you whisper. Steven nods slightly, too afraid to move his head too much. Your fingers wrap around his wrist, lightly pressing down at the front.
He knows you think he doesn’t notice.
He does.
It’s a habit you’d established. You used it whenever the three of them worried you about something. Or when they didn’t come home for a while. It was a way of making sure they were there.
That they were alive.
You pulled him into the downstairs bathroom, gently pushing down on his shoulders to make him sit on the closed toilet. Steven’s head is still throbbing, but the world is no longer spinning.
He needs to hear your voice. Hear you get mad at them. He hates how quiet you are.
You open the cupboard under the sink in front of Steven, pulling out the first-aid kit, and placing it on top.
Jake is staring at you from the mirror. He’s pissed, Steven can tell. But, Marc is nowhere to be seen.
You gently take Steven’s hand, wiping the dry blood off of his knuckles. Wisps of hair fall in front of your face, and he wonders how you manage to look so pretty even at a time like this.
“I - We’re sorry.” Steven mutters. He doesn’t know where Marc is, or what happened, but he apologizes for him anyway.
You look up briefly, tired eyes boring into his, before shaking you head, and going back to cleaning his wounds.
“Do you - do you know? What happened?” you ask.
Steven catches the way your voice breaks slightly, eyes watching you as you carefully wrap a bandage around his hand, moving on to clean the next one.
“No. No - I - we,” he says, looking at the way Jake is watching carefully, “ we were hoping you knew.”
You shake your head again, bun lightly flopping around as you do so. “No we - we went to bed, and - and everything was fine. But, I woke up and he wasn’t there and -” you don’t finish the sentence. You don’t need to, the drop of water that lands on Steven’s fingers is an explanation enough. He feels terrible, thinking about all the possible scenarios that would’ve run through your mind.
You stop what you’re doing, wiping away your tears, before looking back at him, eyes still a little watery. “Who’s we?” you ask.
He knows what you mean.
“Just Jake and I,” he whispers, looking into the mirror.
“I’m going to kill him.” Jake seethes. Steven knows he hates seeing you like this. He knows Marc would hate it too. It’s probably why he hasn’t shown up yet.
You nod slowly, focusing on Steven’s hand again. He tries to piece things together, despite how his head is still throbbing. If he’d gone to bed with you, that means that whatever had happened, happened at night. Which could only mean one thing.
“Nightmare,” he mutters, mostly to Jake, but you hear it too.
You're wrapping up his knuckles again as you nod, “Yeah, that’s - that’s what I thought too. But I wish he’d stayed and woken me up,” you finish what you’re doing, moving back to the first aid kit to get more supplies for the rest of his cuts.
“He does have a bit of an alcohol problem,” Steven says, trying desperately to lighten the mood.
You don’t laugh however, and Jake is scowling from the mirror.
“You really expected that to work?”
Steven shakes his head slightly. His mind is too foggy to be able to think straight, but he still wants to make you feel better. It’s what he does, that’s his role. To fix things, be normal.
But how the fuck is he supposed to do that with this terrible hangover?
He watches as you walk back over to him, a new set of supplies in hand, as you start fixing the cut on his cheekbone next.
He reaches for your hand, stopping you. Your (e/c) eyes lock with his, confusion evident in them, as he intertwines his fingers with yours. “It’s not your fault that - that Marc left - y’know - the way he did,” he says, hoping - praying, that you don’t blame yourself.
You nod lightly, starting to pull away, but he tightens his grip. “Say it,” he says.
He knows he can’t comfort you, not in the state he’s in. But, he can make sure that you know how much you mean to them. To Marc. And that the way he reacted, had absolutely nothing to do with you.
“It’s not my fault. I know,” you respond, smiling softly. Steven nods, satisfied.
You tilt his head upwards, chin between your thumb and index finger. He watches your face as you clean up his wound. It’s almost as if he can see the swarming thoughts, your tongue poking out of your lips lightly as you try to focus.
You might just be the best thing that’s happened to the three of them. Marc had told you about their DID the moment he felt himself catching feelings. He’d hoped you would run away, thinking he was crazy.
But, you hadn’t.
You’d asked questions, figuring out boundaries. Things that you could and couldn’t do. You’d paid attention to the tiny details, to the point where you could just take one look, and you’d know who was fronting. You had snacks for each of them, always stocked up. You always said they were “3 individuals, one body,” and that’s exactly how you’d treated them.
“All done,” you said, gently smoothing out the band-aid you’d just placed. “We’ll get the eye checked out tomorrow with the doc,” you told him, cleaning up all the supplies, and then washing your hands.
Steven stares at the mirror, watching Jake pace back and forth. Marc’s absence seemed to be really pissing him off.
You’re back in front of Steven, eyes scanning him again. “Does it hurt anywhere else?”
It does.
His head, and his torso. But he doesn’t want to tell you, already feeling extremely guilty, so he shakes his head, pulling you towards him. You wrap your hands around his head, fingers in his hair, as he wraps his around your waist. However, the angle isn’t right, causing the pain in his abdomen to double, and he flinches away, cursing.
You react immediately, dropping down to his level, face filled with worry. “What happened? Di - Did I do something wrong?” you ask. He shakes his head, hands clutching the bruise in his side. You notice, reaching for the hem of his shirt. You look up at him, and he realizes that you’re silently asking for permission. He nods briefly, before letting you pull off his shirt, placing it on the sink.
He hears you gasping before he sees the wound himself.
It’s patches of purplish-blue, spanned across the right side of his abdomen. Your fingers hover over them gently.
“Steven,” you say, not looking away from the bruises.
He hums in response, the effect of actually seeing the cause of his pain making it unbearable.
“Who hurt you?” you ask, voice cracking with the sheer amount of anger hidden in it.
It takes Steven everything in him to not flinch away at the sheer force of the question.
Because the bruises and wounds aren’t just the results of a fight. It started way before. Before the fights with Khonshu, before all of it.
Marc got drunk because of a nightmare. And the nightmare, Steven knows, is caused by someone from Marc’s childhood. Someone who was never supposed to inflict such pain on him. On anyone.
Steven doesn’t know how to respond, so he stays quiet, watching you quietly.
He hates that he doesn’t know what to do.
“Comfort her Steven! Tell her you’re okay!” Jake yells from the mirror.
But Steven shakes his head. He knows you’d rather hear the truth, and bear it for a while, than any of them hide their pain or go through it alone.
You sigh, shaking your head. “You go sit in the living room. I’ll get you an ice pack. Do you want any painkillers?” you ask, heading out of the bathroom.
“Yeah. And a proper hug once you get back would be good,” Steven says, slipping his shirt back on.
You laugh, and Steven is grinning. He likes the sound of your happiness, even if it is topped off with exhaustion.
“Right away love.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steven had settled down on the couch by the time you returned with a glass of water, a pill and an ice pack. He took the pill immediately, wanting to desperately get rid of the throbbing in his head. He could still handle the rest fairly well.
You place the ice pack next to him on the couch, holding your arms wide open. Steven lets out a small laugh, wincing as he gets up and literally falling into your arms.
He wraps his arms around your waist, burying his face in the crook of your neck, as your hands wrap around his neck, one landing in his hair playing with the curls.
He feels safe.
You always made them feel that way.
Wanted. Needed. Loved.
He breathes in your scent, nuzzling into your neck, grip tightening as he tries to get rid of the millimeters of space between you both.
He doesn’t know if the hug is too tight, or if you can breathe, because you don’t complain, only pulling him closer. It’s as if you know. You know that he feels terrible on days like these. When he’s the one who has to pick up the pieces, wake up with a hangover. He hates it. And you know.
And you always always remind him that it’s ok to ask for help. For a hug. For a distraction.
He pulls away after a good few minutes, when he feels more stable.
“You ok?” you ask, brushing the curls out of his face.
He nods, sitting down, grabbing the ice pack. “It’s not cold anymore,” he laughs. You grin, reaching out to take it from him, but he shakes his head,“It’s ok, just say with me yeah? That’s medicine in its own right.”
A small laugh slips past your lips as you settle down next to him, his arm around your shoulders, gently pulling you into his side as your head rests on his shoulder.
“You sure you don’t want to sleep?” you ask, reaching for the remote.
“No, missed an entire day with you. I want to make up for it,” he says, pressing his lips to your hair.
“Alright then Mr. Grant, what are we watching?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marc is trying really hard not to move. The shift had been smooth, and you hadn’t even realized, your gaze completely fixed to the TV.  He wanted to keep it that way for a little longer, unsure if he’s ready to face your anger, or worse -
Your disappointment.
But as always, you seem to figure it out yourself, pausing the movie, and turning to sit with your legs crossed, facing him. “Hi,” you whispered, smiling softly.
Marc just stared at you in astonishment.
“How did you know?”
You shrugged, “I knew the second you fronted.”
He raises his eyebrows, and you giggle, “It’s your body language. Steven is more…relaxed,” you say.
He nods, looking at the TV screen. He wants you to yell at him. To tell him that he isn’t worthy of your love.
Because he always messes up.
But you don’t.
Of course, you don’t.
It’s why he loves you. Because you always give him time to explain. To think and to process.
He looks at you again, your eyes calm and waiting and so warm. It fills the empty chill inside of him, covering him from head to toe with the cozy feeling.
“I had a nightmare,” he mutters. You deserve an explanation, even if it’s the shittiest thing he could have done in that situation.
You nod, taking his hands in yours. You don’t ask him to continue, just quietly sitting there, your silence speaking volumes.
I’m here. I’m listening.
And Marc’s eyes spill over with tears, the memories flooding his brain, as he tells you why he’d disappeared.
“Sh-She was there. And so was - so was Randall, an-and all the people I’ve killed, and -” his breath hitches, the last nightmare swimming in his thoughts. He can almost feel it all again.
Your lifeless eyes.
The blood on his hands. Your blood.
“I killed you,” he whispers, “I killed you just like everyone else, just like -”
He’s cut off as you engulf him in a hug, his face pressed against your shoulder. You run your hands up and down his back, “It’s ok, it’s ok baby. I’m here,” you whisper again and again. Marc believes it more every time you say it. Letting your voice guide him to reality.
“I woke up and I felt terrible,” he says against your shoulder. He pulls away, your hands still holding his forearms. He feels empty with the loss of contact, but he wants you to know that he knows he shouldn’t have run.
“I got drunk and then some dude started saying some shit,” he mutters, shaking his head, “Guess I was already too hammered ‘cause I don’t remember what it was. I just remember a fight”
You nod, thumbs stroking his arms gently. “But I should’ve seen the other guy huh?”
Marc chuckles, “Yeah, yeah you should’ve seen the other guy.”
You grin, bending over and pressing a kiss to his forehead.
He wants to ask you why you do what you do. Wants to know why you’ve stayed, why you aren’t angry right now.
He also wants to apologize.
“I’m sorry,” he says, but you’re shaking your head. “I do wish you’d woken me up or something, but I’m not mad. I was just worried.”
He can’t comprehend why you’re so understanding. So patient. It’s foreign to him, and he’s not sure how to react.
“Why are you still here?” he blurts out, the need to know has gotten too strong for him to keep it in any longer.
Confusion makes its way to your face, brows furrowed together, head tilted.
He thinks you look cute.
“What do you mean?” you ask.
“I don’t know why you haven't left me. I-I’m - We’re fucked up,” he says. There was no going back now.
Your arms slip from their position, holding his hands instead, “Because I love you. All 3 of you.”
“Yeah I-I know. But I mean, we’re not that special,” he laughs dryly. He hates himself for bringing this topic up. His eyes flicker to everything but you, afraid of what he might see.
“Marc,” you call, “Marc look at me,” you cup his face, as his eyes land on you, nothing but confidence etched onto them.
“I don’t see you for your past. When I look at you, I don’t see what you’ve been through. I don’t see your trauma. I see you. The man I fell in love with. I look at Steven and I see a goofy little idiot,” you pause, smiling softly, “I see Jake and I see someone who flirts so much that I feel like my heart won’t stay in my chest,” you pause again, laughing lightly and Marc is extremely grateful that there aren’t any mirrors in this room. He doesn’t want to hear their boasting.
“And Marc when I look at you, I see your strength. Your ability to stand up again no matter what happens? I fucking love it. I love how much you care about people. About Steven, and Jake.” You run your thumb across his cheekbone, and Marc has to use all of his energy to keep himself from crying again. “You deserve so much love. I know that you don’t believe it. But I will be there to remind you. Again and again. As long as it takes, because you’re mine and I’m never gonna let you go.”
Marc can’t digest it all. It’s too much kindness. He’s never been given anything in life and it feels like you’ve just dumped all of your love on him.
You guide his face forward, foreheads resting against each other.
“Even if it takes a really long time?” he whispers.
You nod. “I will remind you and shower you with love, until I no longer have a heart to love with.”
Marc smiles, and it feels like his heart is about to jump out of his chest.
It’s new, this feeling, but he’s loving it.
“And I love your eyes. And your smile. And your curls. I love everything about you,” you whisper.
He pulls away slightly, an eyebrow raised, “Everything?”
Red creeps up to your cheeks, “I was trying to have a moment here you asshole!” you say swatting his arm, a smile tugging at your lips.
Marc laughs, the feeling rising from his chest and filling him completely.
He pulls you towards him, “I love you too,” he mutters, before connecting your lips.
And he means every ounce of it.
Just like you’d said, you were his, and he was never gonna let you go. Ever.

Idk if I ever mentioned it here BUT I had a horrible idea for an au a few weeks ago where Hazel is more or less a third member to the daycare (or works in a section attached to it) but is WAYYY less popular than Sun and Moon AND Sun and Moon (both feeling like she’s an Unnecessary Addition to their daycare, and wary of being cut out of the picture and replaced) don’t like her much at all and basically give her the cold shoulder of indifference and Hazel, who has literally existed for like three days and has yet to do pretty much anything, just has to sit there and Deal.
And then,, Y/N shows up to work in the daycare, and Sun and Moon have a friendly-to-crushing kind and affectionate relationship with them bc they are nice and also like rlly cute omg, and Hazel is Completely Normal And Not At All Fucking Outraged About It ! Don't worry she's very mature and reasonable about her feelings (incredibly and persistently passive aggressive and constantly needling Sun and Moon in front of their crush and making everyone uncomfortable <3 )

“Well, We’re Getting There” Steven Universe x Female reader story

Chapt 2/ chapt 4
It’s been a few hours now and the stores are starting to open. Y/n finished hanging up her clothes pretty early since not every piece came. She tried to fall asleep, but didn’t have anywhere comfortable to sleep at since there are no beds, mattresses, or couches in the house.
Y/n is currently getting dressed and ready to head down town to a store. They all needed some extra supplies to help them get more..comfortable while waiting for their stuff to arrive from the moving van.
Y/n ran down the stairs and was met with an excited Ruby. “I can’t wait to explore this town! Maybe we’ll meet new friends!” Ruby said. And when she said “new friends” she doesn’t mean people, she meant critters and other animals that can be found.
”Yeah, we can look for some later. But I wanna explore the town a little bit first.” Y/n said walking into the kitchen with Ruby by her side.
”Good mourning girls. Let’s get ready to go yeah?” Henry said walking out the door.
”What about breakfast?” Ruby asked. Sad that she is missing out on her favorite meal of the day.
”I think you two should try to eat out around here? Try some new food from a restaurant to get use to living here you know? It’s a small town so this may help you get use to your surroundings.” Henry said with a smile.
”Ok, how are we going to get there go? We don’t exactly have a way of transportation besides the bus.” Y/n asked.
” Well since Beach city is just a small town, we can just walk to our destinations! And it’ll be good for your heart too.” Henry told them .
They both groaned. Ever since Henry adopted them, he has been telling them things that would help their heart. Well, just Y/n’s since Ruby doesn’t have a literal heart. Guess that’s what happens when you have a heart surgeon as a father.
”Alright you two let’s head off!” Henry said after grabbing his wallet and house keys.
”Coming!” Both the girls said running out the door behind Henry. They were excited to say the least. They get to explore a whole different place!
As they walked down the street, they were heading up a road instead of down. That’s where the girls wanted to explore at.
”Hey we’re not going down there?” Y/n said pointing to the street that led to the boardwalk.
“Yeah we wanna go down there.” Ruby exclaimed.
” Don’t worry. After we’re done getting the supplies, you two can head on over to explore more of the actual town in Beach City.” Henry said as he continued to walk up the street while both of the girls looked at each other and smiled, soon rushing off behind Henry.
“Okay , so we need to head down to a store that sells bedding supplies “. Henry said going onto google searching on the maps for a store.
“I thought we already have that stuff” Y/n asked confused.
“Well yes we do, but it won’t be here until Thursday.” Henry said. It was currently Monday. “So we need some sleeping bags and pillows for the next few night. Plus we need food too.”
All three of them arrived at a near by store that was average sized. They walked in and were greeted by an employee. They walked over to the camping section, and looked over at the sleeping bags.
”Ok girls. Pick any sleeping bag you want. I’m going to go shopping for some food.” Henry said waving them off and walking away.
Y/n picked a dark green one and Ruby picked a red one.  They were both chatting for a bit until a few people approached them.
”Hey I haven’t seen you here before. You here for a vacation?” A girl asked. She had a striped red and white shirt with round gold earrings. She had long skinny jeans on that were a light blue. She also came with two others. One had white hair with a blue jacket. He also had some big orange pants. The other had brown hair with shades covering his eyes. He had a white t shirt with a lightning bolt and a red jacket to go over it.
” Oh yeah we’re new. But we’re not visiting we just moved here.” Ruby said.
“Oh really? We never get any permanent guests?” The girl said putting her fingers up to her mouth. “ Oh how rude of me, I forgot to tell you guys our names. I’m Jenny.” She pointed to herself. “ That’s Sour Cream” she pointed to the guy with white hair.
”Sup” he said casually.
”And that’s Buck” she pointed to the dude with shades on.
”Hey” he said cooly.
”Well it’s nice to meet you Jenny, Sour Cream, and Buck. I’m Ruby and this is my sister Y/n!” Ruby said excitedly. Sister? Ruby barely used that term for their friendship. They have been together ever since Y/n was a toddler, but it still surprises her.
“Nice to meet you too, you know… you look sort of…familiar .” Jenny said putting a hand on her chin and squatting down to look at Ruby.” Oh that’s it!” She snapped her fingers. “  You look like Steven and his aunts.” Jenny said standing up.
Aunts? Since when does Ruby look like an Aunt, nevertheless a human? Y/n and Ruby stood their for a second looking at each other and then back at the other three that had been standing there.
“Where are they?” Ruby asked.
“Over by the beach. I’m sure Steven will be delighted to meet two new people.” Buck said slightly smiling and pointing towards the beach.
“Hey you, Y/n right?” Jenny asked Y/n.
”Yes?” Y/n responded questioning.
”Wanna come hang with us tonight night? We’re gonna have a campfire and sleeping out in the old corn field by the barn. “ Jenny asked Y/n.
”What about Ruby? Y/n asked.
”How about you go without me? You should make more friends! This is perfect! When your getting ready to hang out with them, I can go see Steven and his Aunts.” Ruby said excitedly. She was practically jumping off the ground.
”Yeah listen to the red kid”. Buck said with a hand in his pocket.
”….Ok. I’ll go.” Y/n said hesitantly.
”Woo. Ok we can pick you up at 8:30 pm at ‘Fish Stew Pizza’ k? “ Jenny said while the other two grabbed some supplies.
”Sure” Y/n said
“You don’t talk much do you?” Sour cream asked while holding flashlights and lighters.
”Not really” Y/n stated holding Ruby’s hand.
”GIRLS” Both of the girls turned around hearing Henry’s voice. Y/n was relieved and started to walk away.
” It was nice meeting you guys! See you later!” Ruby exclaimed and ran off with Y/n.
”Are you two ready to leave?” Henry asked putting the food he had chosen onto the self scanner.
”Ye-“ Ruby started, only to be interrupted by Y/n.
”Yes” Y/n said rather quickly. Y/n would be lying if said she wasn’t uncomfortable during the chat she had with Jenny and her friends. Most kids at her old school in California stayed away from her. They new about her different families since they lived in a small town. This was a new experience that Y/n did not like or even wants to try to get use to.
Ruby looked at Y/n and saw something that she hasn’t seen in years. Fear. Y/n was scared. Ruby grabbed Y/n’s hand and gave it a light squeeze. Henry finished putting everything in bags and told the girls to follow him.
”You alright?” Ruby asked looking at Y/n.
”Yeah I’m fine” Y/n responded quickly.
”You know, I don’t have to go meet the ge-“ Ruby was once again cut off by Y/n.
”No no. You should go meet them. I have never seen someone like you before so this may be a good sign. Even if it is just weird aunts, it’s worth a shot?” Y/n questioned Ruby and herself.
”Ok. But if you don’t feel comfortable you don’t have to go. You can come with me!”
Y/n knew that she should go with Ruby, but she wants to give Ruby a chance to make her own friends. Since Y/n had nobody to hang out with or even want to talk to her besides Ruby, Ruby hasn’t been able to make any other friends besides Y/n. Even though Y/n is a bit worried of her close friend, she trusts that she won’t do anything bad. The only problem is that she hasn’t been more than 50 feet away from Ruby in years.
The three of them were walking down the street to their new house so Henry can put away the groceries. They soon came to their street and Henry opened the door. Y/n put the groceries onto the counter and waited for Ruby.
“Okay. I’m going to put these away . You two can go and explore. And here.” Henry handed them some money. Both the girls looked at him confused. “I think you two might get hungry. So use that to buy whatever! I’ll let you eat Junk food this one time.” Henry said.
Y/n and Ruby’s faces lit up. Since their new father is a age art surgeon, he doesn’t let them eat too much sugar. The frappechinos at the airport were the only sugary thing they’ve eaten all week. Nonetheless, junk food was never aloud at their house, so they were lucky today! Even though Ruby doesn’t exactly have a heart, she still listens to her adoptive father to show respect.
”Thanks!” They both said together. Henry chuckled as Y/n and Ruby started to leave the kitchen and out the front door.
”DON’T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR PHONES!” Henry yelled at them.
”OK!” Ruby yelled back at him while they both headed down the street. “Where to first?” Ruby asked Y/n.
”Let’s head down to the boardwalk. That’s the only place by the beach that actually has things to look at. Unless you wanna look at peoples houses.” Y/n joked and Ruby laughed.
”Okay! Off to the boardwalk!” Ruby said rather loudly running down the street.
”Wait! Ruby a car could be coming!” Y/n said following Ruby trying to catch up with her.
Once Y/n caught up with Ruby, they chatted for a bit and came close to the beach. Once they walked across the street, they were in front of a donut shop.
”Big Donut. Huh” Y/n said aloud with her hand on her chin. Now that’s a creative name isn’t it?” Y/n joked again.
”Ha! Wanna go inside? We’ve got money and I would really like to eat one! We haven’t ate one of these in months!” Ruby said excitedly.
Y/n and Ruby loved donuts, even if it made them feel sick after. Donuts was a food source for Y/n when she was little. Her caretakers after had donuts with them so she took a couple every time she was hungry. Ruby wanted to try some too. Ever since that day, they both loved donuts. But they haven’t ate any since they were back at the adoption center.
Y/n and Ruby walked into the shop and the door gave a little ding. Standing at the counter was a short girl and a boy. The girl had medium blond hair. The boy had brownish orange hair with big earring holes cut out in his ears. Both were wearing a blue shirt with a donut on it.
Y/n and Ruby both walked up to the counter to place their orders. “Hello welcome to the big donut.” The girl said. She looked at you both and gave a confused face. “ I’ve never seen you two here before. Are you a friend of Steven’s? “ She asked.
”No we haven’t met him yet. Why do you think we are?” Y/n asked curiously.
”Oh it’s because she looks like one of the gems.” She said pointing at Ruby. Gems?! So they are like her. This makes Y/n and Ruby even more curious than before.
” She is a gem, but she’s never met them yet.” Y/n responded. “ Can I have that donut please?” Y/n said pointing at a F/D.
“Yes. I’m Sadie by the way” She said while putting a donut into a bag. “Do you want one too?” She asked Ruby .
”Yes please. I’ll take that one.” She pointed at a strawberry glazed donut.
”Ok here you go.” She handed them their donuts. “That’ll be 6.78” she said and the girls gave her money. “Wait. I didn’t catch you names.”
“I’m Y/n and that’s Ruby. We just moved here.” Y/n said taking a bite of her donut.
“Nice to meet you you two hope we can meet up la-“ she was cut off by the boy.
”Jeez. Could you two hurry up? Your holding up the line!” The boy said pointing behind him. There was a line of people who didn’t look to happy.
”Oh yeah sorry we’ll leave now. It was nice meeting you Sadie . See you later. “ Y/n said walking out of the shop with Ruby. “ Well that was embarrassing “ she said walking further down the boardwalk.
Ruby chuckled “ Hehe, yeah it was wasn’t it? Hey! I’ve never seen you speak to someone like that before.”
”Yeah I don’t know why but I felt like i can trust her you know?” Y/n questioned not only Ruby but herself.
”Nope!” Ruby said with an innocent grin on her face. Y/n chuckled at the scene.
Both girls wondered down the boardwalk more and saw many shops. They decided that they should sit in a nearby bench and finish eating their donuts.
“You wanna check out the other buildings here?” Ruby asked taking the last bite of her donut.
”No, we can do that another time. We aren’t gonna buy something from every shop. Plus, we shouldn’t just introduce ourselves to everyone.” Y/n said wiping her hands on her pants.” We still need to get back home too. We’ll just me I guess. Your gonna go meet the other gems soon right?” Y/n asked.
”Yep! Oh speaking of which, it’s already almost 4:00. You should head back and get ready with your new friends!” Ruby said.
”Yeah…new friends.” Y/n said in a not so excited voice.
”It’ll be okay. And if you feel uncomfortable, then just text me and I’ll make up an excuse of why you can’t be there.” Ruby stated with a shrug and got off her seat.
” Okay. I think I can do that. The same goes for you though. If you don’t wanna talk to those gems anymore. Text me too k? Y/n said holding out her fist.
”k” Ruby replied back and did a fist bump with Y/n. “I’m gonna head off now” Ruby told Y/n
”Do you know where your going? “ Y/n asked.
”I’ll just ask one of the employees or citizens here. You go home and don’t worry about little me.” Ruby brushed Y/n away.
”If you say so. Don’t forget to check your phone. I’m serious. I will find you.” And that was the last thing Ruby heard from Y/n after she walked away down the boardwalk.
Ruby wasn’t going to lie, she felt a bit scared going to meet new people without Y/n . Sure , Ruby had been on earth for most of her life, but she still isn’t that great when it comes to meeting them.
Ruby went to a fry shop. There was a young boy behind the counter with blond hair that looked like fries. Ruby approached him with a smile.
”Hi there! I’m Ruby and I’m wondering where I can find the home of Steven?” Ruby asked the boy, standing on her tippy toes.
“Oh hi. I’m Petey, and Stevens house is right around the corner of the beach.” He said pointing at the side of the beach with a cliff near it. “ It’s a beach house and the only actual house on the beach. It shouldn’t be hard to miss.”
“Okay. Thanks and nice to meet you “ Ruby yelled running over to the beach. She was excited. She hasn’t met another gem in years, nonetheless other gems rather than other Ruby soldiers. The only problem was, she didn’t know what she was about to get herself into.
Steven was currently lying on his bed, doing absolutely nothing. After the events with Lapis draining the whole ocean and his dad faking his broken leg, he needed a break. Luckily, there were no missions to go on with the gems so he can sit back and relax.
Pearl and Amethyst were squabbling about something on the couch. Like always. And Garnet was just leaning on the counter listening to Pearl and Amethyst fight. Steven let out a loud sigh and sat up.
“Pearl. Amethyst. Stop fighting your bothering Steven.” Garnet said in her usual monotone voice.
“No it’s not them. It’s Lapis . She caused so much damage and just left.” Steven said rather sadly.
”Steven, it will be alright. You did the right thing. But we cannot worry about her any much longer. We must focus on what needs to be done to protect humanity.” Pearl said trying to cheer up Steven.
“Yeah Ste-man. Don’t worry about water girl. We got this under control.” Amethyst shrugged and Pearl had an irritated face on .
”Yeah. I think you guys might be right. Thanks.” Steven said looking at the gems.
”No problem.” Garnet said with a straight face.
Their chat was soon interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Hello” Ruby said through the glass door.
The gems were silent for a minute, before opening the glass door harshly. Luckily, Ruby moved out of the way just before it hit her.
” Hi I’m Ru-“ She was cut off with a sharp whip to her face.” Owww! Hey what are y-“ once again, she was cut off. But this time she was thrown all the way down the stairs onto the sand.” Uhhh” Ruby groaned on impact.
”It’s a Ruby soldier from Homeworld!” Garnet said summoning her fists. “ Get her!” Garnet yelled at Pearl and Amethyst while they were all jumping down from the deck. Steven was still by the front door, watching the battle below him.
”Guys wait ! She may not be bad!” Steven tried to tell them while running down the stairs.
”Stay out of this Steven ! You don’t know what she’s capable of!” Pearl said with her spear in hand.
Ruby got up and tried to run off, but Ametugit in front of her and tied her to her whip. “ AHHHHH!! Let. Me . Go!” Ruby said as she struggled to get loose from the whip.
”Yeah, no!” Amethyst said as she managed to throw Ruby far.
”AHHHH!” Ruby screamed as she fell on the floor once again. Ruby got up and hid behind a near by rock while she can hear the foot steps of the larger gem. She took her phone out of her gem, and started to text Y/n. But before she could send anything, Garnet came and grabbed her phone, crushing it in the process. She knew that she was doomed now.
Y/n was done packing up her supplies. She was still terrified to go, but she wanted Ruby to have a chance at meeting people just like her. Speaking of Ruby, Y/n hasn’t got a single text from her yet. She grabbed her phone and opened the messages app.
You: hey just checking up on u.
You: u ok? why aren’t I answering me?
Still no response . This started to worry Y/n a lot. She opened her phone tracking app and looked at Ruby’s profile. It was disconnected. That really scared Y/n. She feared that Ruby was gone or hurt. She immediately got up and ran out of the house.
”Y/n?! Where are you going?!” Henry yelled as she ran out the front door. She didn’t care if she would be lectured later by Henry. The only thing she cared about right now was to find her best friend . She ran ran down the road ignoring all the honking and people screaming at her to get out of the way.
She soon came upon the boardwalk and dashed down it, stopping to ask a question.
”WHERES……STEVEN’S……HOUSE!!!” She said between pants to Petey.
“Uhhh, right around the corner ma’am?” Petey said slightly weirded out by the fact a girl was practically screaming in his face.
Without a thank you, she ran down the beach, only to slow down to catch her breath a little.
Ruby was struggling to stay up. She kept getting attacked over and over again, she didn’t want to fight anymore.
”UHHH! Why isn’t she poofing!!!!” Amethyst said angrily.
”She’s a Ruby, they are meant to be body guards and take hits like this.” Pearl said holding up her spear.
“She can’t stay like this forever. We’ll get her soon” Garnet said walking over to Ruby once again.
”Guys stop! You don’t know if she’s still with homeworld!” Steven said jumping in front of Ruby defensively.
”How do you know that?!” Pearl asked rather loudly.
”Because why would she not be attacking you right now? She hasn’t attacked at all! And if she had an army or some kind of weapon, wouldn’t she have already used it?” Steven asked the gems. Pearl and Amethyst seemed to think for a moment, before Garnet stepped in.
”Steven” Garnet said looking at Steven. “ I do not care. Sorry Steven , but we cannot be to sure about this”. And with one last hard hit, Ruby’s gem hit the floor, with no body around it.
Steven picked up the gem and looked at it for a bit, then said some words.
”I’m sorry Ruby, but your in a safer space now”. He said bubbling the gem, before he gets a huge punch to the face.
”OWWWW” Steven whined. The punch was so hard, Ruby’s gem fell out of the almost made bubble.
”STEVEN! I TOLD YOU THEY HAD OTHER GEM MEMBERS!!!!” Pearl screamed as she ran over to help Steven.
“ Uhhhh, P? That’s not a gem.” Amethyst said looking in Y/n’s direction.
”Wha?” Pearl said as she turned around to see Y/n picking up the Ruby’s gem. Y/n was devastated. She couldn’t believe that her best friend was attacked, and it was her fault. She shouldn’t have left Ruby alone. She should’ve went with her. But right now was not the time to grieve over her friend, she had bigger problems to deal with.
Y/n looked down at the gem and put it in her pocket, then looked up at Steven and the gems with pure anger in her eyes. That did frighten Steven , and even Pearl a bit. She had never seen any human with such hatred on their eyes.
”E-Excuse me? I need to take that-“ Steven said walking over to Y/n, to earn another punch in the face. This time he was punched in the nose, which was bleeding.
”STEVEN!” Pearl and Amethyst yelled together getting their weapons back out. Garnet walked up to Y/n without her weapon. Then she just picked up Y/n by the shirt.
”Give her to us.” Garnet said in her monotone voice. She was trying to be more intimidating to scare the floors into giving up the gem, but that was not happening anytime soon.
”NO!” Y/n yelled at Garnet. Garnet only tightened her grip on the girls shirt.
”Give her to-“ Garnet was cut off with a pinch to her face, making her drop the girl.
”GARNET!” Steven yelled to her. Her shades fell off and it showed three very angry eyes.
”What the?” Y/n mumbled to herself. Then she remembered why she was here right now. She got up from the ground , but quickly got pulled by Garnet, holding her up in the air again.
” I will give you one more chance before we force it out of your grasp” Garnet said with and angered tone.
”I don’t care! You can kill me if you have to! Just don’t hurt my sister!” Y/n yelled at the tall gem.
“Sister?” Steven said to himself, then he realized something. “Wait Garnet! Put her down! “ Steven yelled at her as he ran over to her leg. “You know Ruby?” Steven asked Y/n . “ H-How long?”
“Ten years.” Once Garnet heard that , she dropped the girl to the ground. Steven rushed to Y/n’s side.
”Are you okay! Wow you really lived with another gem? How did you guys meet? Are you two new here? Wanna be friends? Oh let me help you up-“ Steven asked a bunch of questions. When he tried to help Y/n up, she slapped his hand away and got up herself. Steven was confused for a moment, but then saw the anger in her eyes.
Y/n was still pissed. She couldn’t believe that this kid wanted to be friends with her, right after his friends attacked her and her best friend.
”Friend’s? With you? Never.” Y/n snarled at Steven. Steven was taken back by the comment.
“ Sorry , we just didn’t know if we could trust he-“ he was cut off by Y/n, luckily not a punch this time.
”Trust her?! So you brutally beat her up until her form was gone?!!!” Y/n yelled at Steven.
” I don’t think you understand! We are the Crystal gems. We protect life on earth and-“ Pearl stated to the angry human.
“Protect life on earth? It doesn’t seem like you “protect life on earth” . Your doing a pretty horrible job at it!” Y/n yelled at Pearl. Pearl looked frustrated and was about to speak up until Garnet stopped her.
” I’m leaving. I don’t want to be here with the” Crystal gems protectors of earth “ . Hope you have a horrible rest of you life.” Y/n said as she walked away from the gems. “ I knew it was a bad idea to move here” Y/n said to herself, but she didn’t know that the gems could still hear her.
Steven looked really upset, like he was punched in the heart. Well, he was punched, just not in the heart.
“Some nerve that human has! Coming here to just barge in on our duties!” Pearl yelled angrily as she walked back to the temple.
“Yeesh I know. At least it’s finally over now.” Amethyst said as she walked with her arms behind her head up to the temple as well.
”Steven just stood there devastated. He thought he could get along with someone new, but didn’t think he would loose two potential friends. Garnet saw the sadness on his face, she made her way over to Steven.
”Don’t worry Steven , she’ll get over it soon. And then maybe you can become good friends.” Garnet reassured him.
”Okay, thanks Garnet”. Steven said with a smile.
”Hmmm. No problem “ Garnet said with a slight smile adjusting her shades. She started up the stairs and Steven followed after her. Steven was excited to see Y/n and Ruby again , even if Y/n beat him up pretty badly, he k ew that everything will turn out okay. That’s what he thought at least.

Possible Idea?
So, I had a brief idea for a superhero fanfic, but I wanted to gauge your guy's reaction first. Please let me know if you'd read this, if I should write this for the Marvel or DC universe, and who the reader should end up with- if anyone! (I'd very likely write the reader interacting with the Moon Knight or Batman side of things respectively)
Please do not copy my work! Even if I'm uncertain about writing a full fic, I'm still personally invested in this idea.
Dayshade
Word Count: 264
Vigilantes are many things, but they’re also human. They get tired, they make mistakes, they miss something- they slip.
That’s where you come in.
Dayshade.
Despite lacking the gadgets or specialized training of any renowned heroes, you find a strange sort of contentment in your humble role as the self-proclaimed “guardian of daylight”. By day, you’ve vowed to discreetly intervene in minor crimes whenever possible, offering assistance with a subtle touch that goes traditionally unnoticed by most.
Your accomplishments currently include returning missing wallets, moving broken down cars from the road, and- most notably- tripping an actual bank robber fleeing from officials.
Under the cover of night, you’ve begun to embark on very brief patrols- you do have a life after all- both striving to lessen the burdens weighing on the shoulders of your city’s defenders and to ensure the people around you directly feel more secure. The moniker itself even started as a joke, something you’d whisper to yourself quietly for your own amusement. Dayshade- who’d ever take that seriously?
Arguably though, it was a good vigilante name. It was two syllables, so it was easy to yell, and the title was easy enough to remember.
Slowly but surely, you became a figure who operated discreetly under the cover of daylight, subtly shading the city from wrongdoing without drawing any undue attention to yourself. You were simply content to exist in the daytime, unseen and unnoticed by the wide variety of villains who often plagued the city.
That is, until tonight.
Who knew an actual sun god would take the moniker Dayshade seriously?

Steven Grant/Marc Spector x Fem!reader
Summary: You begin to discover things about Marc/Steven's past as your adventure begins.
Warnings: murder mention, death mention, persecution, swearing, sexual tension(?,
A/N: the next part will be the final, sorry!
Part 4
Tumblr media
The next morning I woke up with the horrible feeling of having only slept two hours. What's worse, I had had a horrible nightmare where some men came into my house and someone mentioned something about a giant talking dove… anyway. I slowly sat up in bed rubbing my eyes and watching the morning light coming through my window. I stretched my arms like a cat, stretching and got up, yawning, dragging my feet towards my kitchen.
"I had the craziest dream of my life.."- I said to myself even with my eyes closed.
"It wasn't a dream"
I gasped and jumped on the spot, waking up. To one side Marc was resting on my couch, he was still shirtless and covered with a blanket. He rested his elbow on the cushions and looked at me seriously.
"For God sake, Marc!! Jesus!, you scared me. I didn't remember you were here"
Marc continued seriously and stood up slowly putting on his shirt. As best I could, I went to prepare breakfast for both of them. I needed a good cup of caffeine. While I prepared pancakes Marc sat in the chair inspecting his wound. The bandage was still in place and the cut was no longer bleeding. I finished breakfast and served it on the table.
"Thanks..."- Marc murmured, surprised.
"No problem, I'm used to having breakfast alone but I thought you would be hungry too"- I said confused by his reaction.
"No, it's not that, it's just that… I haven't had pancakes in years…"
I almost choked on the pancake I put in my mouth and looked at it with my mouth full and big eyes.
"In years?! So what have you been eating??"
"What I found in Steven's refrigerator, or leftovers…"
"That sucks, I don't know how you're still alive."
He laughed softly and I smiled, satisfied that I was able to get a smile out of him, again.
"Let's say that in matters of survival I excel quite well"
"Oh well, since you're bringing it up, I want to know exactly what you do."- I said, clasping my hands and leaning under my chin.
"Are you sure? It's not a very nice story."
"You owe me"- I said pointing at him with a finger
He looked around remembering last night's disaster and nodded. He told how he used to travel the world killing people, he was a mercenary, he worked for people and he had to obey, that's what they paid him for. One day someone hired him to rescue an important statuette in Egypt, but during the expedition a member of the team betrayed him and fatally wounded him. Failing, he took refuge in a pyramid, he felt his strength abandon him when an imposing figure with the head of a bird spoke to him with a voice from beyond the grave. He said his name was Khonsu, the Egyptian god of the moon. The cunning god saved his life in exchange for him becoming his avatar, that is, his faithful knight.
"Or his slave, depending on how you want to see it"- he muttered angrily
"What happened after that?"
He sighed with reluctance. And he related that now he called himself "Moon Knight" and served Khonsu. Unfortunately, the man who treacherously escaped with the statuette, Marc suspected that he was a follower of Arthur Harrow. Obviously Steven knew nothing about this, that's why sometimes he woke up in a place he didn't know, because Khonsu ordered Marc to go to those places.
"Holy shit..."
I stared at him weighing the information. Now you felt the pieces fit together, his fighting skills, the people chasing him, even that strange figure I saw running across the rooftops.
"So.. a mercenary.."
"Go ahead, say it, I know you have a bad impression of me right now"-Marc felt how you felt aberration for his work.
"I wasn't going to say anything, I was just thinking that everything makes sense now"
He looked at me confused so I told him everything I had been noticing in him since he first appeared, at least as Marc and not Steven.
"And I thought I was being subtle, you don't know how hard it is to imitate Steven's accent"
Marc began to awkwardly imitate his counterpart's British accent and it made me genuinely laugh. Suddenly he frowned and rested his hand on the back of my hand that was resting on the table.
"I know that what I'm about to ask of you will border on the height of disrespect, but I need you to come with me.."
Before I could say anything he continued speaking quickly.
"I'm serious. It's important that you don't stay here because now they know where to find you and they won't hesitate to extract information from you by force"
A small wave of panic made my blood freeze, I didn't want to imagine what those men could do to me if they entered my house again. But I didn't want to leave so suddenly either. Marc sensed my fear and explained
"You may have to move to another place for a few days until this is all over. If you come with me we will settle in Cairo in a small house with all the comforts, you will only have to worry about the intense heat of the sun"-He tried to smile
Cairo… suddenly superimposed images came to my mind. Pyramids, sand, camels, dunes… everything I had read in the library books came to my mind like a whirlwind. Egypt was known not only for its pyramids and all the culture that came with it but also for its high temperatures and sand storms.
"I understand that this is all confusing and sudden but I need you to-"
"I will"
Marc was surprised by your quick and confident response. I looked into his eyes with determination, trying not to regret my decision, even so, I knew it was the right thing to do. Stay would have been a suicide plan
"But I still need to know things about you, such as where you lived before, your father or mother, etc"
Marc's face tightened when he heard the word mother and a look of disgust crossed his forehead. His mother was the last thing he wanted to talk about.
"Fine I promise, but not now. You must pack your bags, we leave in an hour"
I got up from the table and Marc imitated me, nervously I went to my room and grabbed all the clothes I could find, I particularly chose cool and light clothes that would help me withstand the heat of Egypt. When I was almost finishing the suitcase, I looked for an object in the drawer of my nightstand, a small ring that I inherited from my mother before she died. I rubbed it lovingly, polishing it gently, and put it in a pocket of my suitcase. When I finished, I looked moved at my room and touched with my fingers the photo frames that hung on the walls, all my photos of me, my friends or family. I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. Was I really about to leave all that behind? I shook my head to clear those thoughts and went to the kitchen where Marc was already ready.
"Let's go, the faster we get there the better, a jeep will be waiting for us outside."
Marc was about to leave when he suddenly remembered something and took two caps out of his backpack.
"Maybe this will help hide our identities just in case. And it also protects us from the sun"
With a sigh I took Marc's hand and we left my apartment. At no point did Marc let go of my hand, I didn't know if it was because he didn't want me to get lost or because of something else. When we arrived at the place the jeep was not there, it had a slight delay and we had to wait for it. Marc seemed impatient and from time to time he took quick glances towards the sky or what seemed to be the roof of a house.
"What are you looking at?"-I said looking at him
"Nothing, it doesn't matter.."
But Marc avoided eye contact with me and continued to look up, and not only that but he also made faces of annoyance by frowning and pursing his lips or making small angry pouts as if he wanted to shut someone up. I couldn't contain myself anymore and I turned around to where he was looking but I didn't find anything. I started to think he had gone crazy until I remembered the whole story about that Khonsu bird.
"Ohh I got it, It's the lunar god you told me about"
He nodded with a grunt and looked away.
"And what's he saying now?"
The middle-aged man didn't want to answer and instead returned to see Khonsu, increasingly angry.
"He says something about me?"
"He's getting involved in what doesn't matter to him."
I was going to say something else but he exclaimed again irritated.
"And he should learn to keep quiet!"
People passing by looked at us confused and worried about Marc's mental health. I smiled nervously, placing a hand on his shoulder and looking at the people out of the corner of my eye.
"Ok ok! easy man..I see you two have a lot to talk about"
"Anyway, I hope the jeep doesn't take long to arrive. I already want to get out of here."
I have never agreed more with him. We both stood a little away from the people waiting for time to fly. With my arms crossed I fixed my gaze on any point and my mind began to wander, I remembered everything I had experienced so far, Steven's arrival, his strange behavior, the thieves and then Marc's confession. All of that had happened in a matter of hours or days. They were the busiest and most chaotic weeks of my life, maybe my boss was right and I should take a break, although these were not the vacations I imagined. Suddenly a shake on my arm brought me back to reality, I looked at Marc intrigued and I could see the fear on his face.
"We have to run now"
"What? But why? What's wrong M-"
Marc didn't let me finish speaking because he grabbed my chin and turned it towards where he was looking. When I turned my head I saw four guys pointing in our direction. After exchanging a few words they began to approach at a safe pace towards where we were. A chill ran down my spine and for a second I was frozen in place.
"Come on, run!"-He said pulling my arm.
But I couldn't move and I felt stupid for that, but the shock was so great that it had paralyzed my body. Although I wanted to move because I was aware of the danger, I couldn't. The four men, noticing Marc's urgency in wanting to leave, began to advance faster. Marc grabbed my wrist firmly and with an accurate push he managed to get me moving.
"NOW!"
All that was missing was that little push necessary for my feet to start flying. I was running so fast that I couldn't feel the ground beneath me, I even seemed to be running faster than Marc. The pursuers ran after us pushing people who fell to the ground screaming or moved away offended. We avoided food stalls, street vendors but the other men threw everything in their path without caring. Although they were far from us, they ran very fast and it was difficult for us to keep them away because I was starting to get tired, Marc was dragging me and I couldn't keep up with him well. Suddenly Marc turned a corner and we hid in a narrow alley, in the brick wall there was a hole that two people could easily enter if they squeezed together. He put a finger on my mouth to silence me and dragged me to the gap in the wall. Obviously it was very narrow and it was difficult for both of us to fit in. I had to put my head against Marc's chest and I could hear his unbridled heartbeat reverberating in his chest like a drum. The four men who were still running stopped in front of the alley, inspecting it with their eyes. My pulse accelerated and I got closer to Marc's body as if it were a protective shield, he gasped softly and closed his eyes tightly. The men said something and separated, looking elsewhere, two to the left and the other two to the right. I felt my soul return to my body, I tried to take a deep breath and moved a little further away from Marc, or at least as much as could be possible in that narrow hiding place. Her heart was still beating fast and I wasn't sure if it was because of the proximity or because of the men who were chasing us. I raised my head to see him and his eyes shone abnormally and… his cheeks seemed slightly pink, but I guess it was from the effort of running so much.
"I-I think they've already left, we should leave"
"Yeah.."-he gasped
We slowly left the hiding place although we had to use force to leave the narrow gap and I almost fell on top of Marc if it weren't for him holding me by the shoulders. We walked until we left the alley and after looking everywhere and seeing that our pursuers were not close we began to jog. But the calm didn't last long because the four of them met again, it seemed like they had emerged from the sewers and chased us like dogs again. I was already exhausted and I felt my legs burning from the effort, when I felt that my thighs were going to tremble and I was going to fall to my knees on the ground, a honk made us turn our heads. The jeep had arrived and its driver, Marc's friend, was waving at us with his arm and shouting loudly for us to get on, but we were practically surrounded so Marc decided to quickly climb a staircase of a building that led to a balcony while the confused men It took them a few seconds to react before coming up with us. When we got to the balcony the jeep was right below us on the street.
"Are you ready?"
"For what?!"-I exclaimed scared
"For jump!!"
Marc held me by the waist and practically pushed me down as he fell with me. My scream was so strident that it could practically have been heard all the way to China. With horror I saw how the ground was getting closer to my eyes, I felt like my life was passing in front of my eyes. I closed my eyes and covered my face with my arms while I whimpered in fear, expecting the worst. But thank heavens we fell into the seats of the jeep while the driver started the vehicle that skidded and smoked the tires while we left the four guys behind cursing and showing the middle finger. At breakneck speed we were able to escape safely, although it was a stretch because I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
"Are you ok?"-He asked me worried
I was about to answer him in a bad way but I stopped myself because everything that was happening wasn't his fault, but honestly it was beyond me.
"I've been better.."-I said sharply and breathlessly.
We settled into the seats trying to catch our breath and gather our thoughts. Marc better have a plan to emerge triumphant from all this shit because otherwise I don't know how we could face Harrow and his sect of lunatics, we hadn't started our search and I was already feeling fed up. To calm things down, Marc's friendly friend started a chat.
"Hi!, you must be Y/n, Marc told me that I would have to pick him up and a pretty girl for Cairo, although he never told me that you were so beautiful."-he said winking
In another context, that type of "compliment" would have made me sick, but I was too exhausted to think about it, and Marc's friend didn't seem depraved, well after all, if he was his friend, he had to be a good guy. Even so, Marc covered his face, embarrassed and wanting to kill him, a laugh left my mouth without thinking about it.
"By the way I'm Leo, at your service"
I nodded with an amused smile while Marc looked in another direction trying to suppress the embarrassment he felt right now. I looked at him to see if he would turn his face or say something but since that didn't happen I decided to tease him a bit.
"So you told Leo that a pretty girl was waiting with you, was that girl me?"-I said, biting my lip, I inferred into a smile.
Marc shivered a little uncomfortably and shifted nervously in his seat but still didn't look at me.
"And what else did you say about me?"-I said with a honeyed and innocent voice.
Leo looking at Marc from the rearview mirror was holding back his laughter but it was obvious that he couldn't, he saw it and frowned.
"Oh come on!"-Marc said looking at me angrily and then looked away again.
Now Leo and I burst out laughing, it was a relief to laugh despite the difficulties. That seemed to calm the atmosphere because then the three of us seemed more relaxed. When I realized we were no longer in the city but traveling along the empty road. In the sky the sun was slowly descending through the horizon, dyeing the sky and the clouds orange and pink. I stood admiring the colorful landscape while counting the hours to reach Cairo. Suddenly the dream overcame me and my heavy eyelids began to droop until I closed my eyes. My head hung downwards and the soft rattle of the jeep shook my body. Unintentionally, all my weight swung to one side and I fell on top of Marc with my head resting on his shoulder. He seemed to be startled because he turned his head quickly looking at me confused and uncomfortable, but he didn't have the courage to push me aside so after a few minutes, sleep knocked him out too and he fell asleep with his head on mine. Leo saw us both from the mirror and smiled to himself.
"These lovebirds will end up in love"
As the jeep traveled down the long road, a tall, imposing figure with a bird's skull watched from a distance, crouching as the vehicle drove away. Guñendo stood up and placed his cane on the ground with a sharp thump that would have made the earth shake.
"That girl will give us problems, I hope you know what you're doing…Marc"

I know I owe you a big apology for taking so long to continue this series and another apology because the next part will be the final one. But I've lost a little interest in this story and if it weren't for the fact that I respect that several of you like this series I would have canceled it a long time ago.

Fight With Me
Warnings: angst, fluff, sexual themes (nothing graphic), not edited
Summary: You want Steve to fight with you, for you, but he doesn’t have the same thoughts.
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Female Reader
A/N: I’m more active on Wattpad at the moment because it’s just more portable for writing right now. My laptop is being used for school only since I’m starting fresh at uni again. This is written with a new sort of writing style I tried out at this creative writing club I joined. Anyway, enjoy this!
Steve never asked you for much.
He always stood against the counter during any meal times, letting you rummage through cabinets and the refrigerator to see what you wanted to make and eat. He followed you around when you two were out shopping, letting you pull out shirts, put them against his chest, and then choose whether or not he was going to buy it. He would sit down whenever you asked him to, stand if you ever needed him to, and lay down beside you when you had a long day.
If you ever asked him for any advice, he would shrug and grin, saying you were better off deciding.
You usually frowned nowadays, wondering why he never put forth his own two cents. You were willing to listen, you had never shut anyone down before. So it confused you to no length when he never put his thoughts out on display for you.
"What's that frown for?" Steve asked, glancing over at you from where he was cutting the green peppers.
You shook your head and turned away, unable to stomach Steve's closed responses anymore. It had gotten to a point where you were beginning to think he was never in this relationship to begin with. That this relationship meant nothing and he was just here to past the time. And who were you to just turn up dating someone as kind and handsome and caring and popular as Steve fucking Rogers.
He was Captain America for fuck's sake.
He had woman lining up behind him, begging for just one chance with America's golden boy. And here you were with that one chance, hoping and praying to whatever god you decided to believe in that he wasn't in love with you. Not like this. Not if he was going to let you make every single decision. Not if he wasn't even going to fight for you if you made a bad choice.
"Y/N?" Steve tried, voice full of concern and worry.
You two had never fought. Not even once. Just because you were the one making all the verdicts. There was never an argument from him after you made a choice. He just accepted it and went on with his life as if it never effected him. As if your opinion was all he ever wanted.
That was true. It couldn't be true, you knew that.
You saw the way he hid his grimace when he bit into a dish he didn't quite like as much as you. He hid it well, but he had his little giveaways; the way his mouth quirked slightly, or the way his left eye twitched, or the way his leg started bouncing. He would rarely wear the salmon-coloured shirt—the one you never liked either and got for him anyway, hoping to engage him in an argument. It didn't work. He took it in and housed it, thanking you and giving you compliments on your style.
Your frown deepened.
"Y/N?" Steve was standing beside you then, looking at you with the same concern that was laced into his voice. "Are you okay?"
"Yep," you replied, popping the 'p' and then muttering, "as much as I can be."
"What d'you mean, love?" Steve's eyebrows furrowed and you said nothing, mentally cursing his super-hearing. You moved backwards to where Steve was and grabbed the cutting board with the cut green papers on them. You poured them into the sauce and ignored Steve's pursed lips.
"Did I do something?" Steve grabbed your elbow gently when you started to move away from him again.
"No, you didn't do anything and that's the problem," you finally answered, tone a bit snappy and harsh, but you were too into your head to notice it. Steve let your elbow go, his blue eyes firmly locking you in place when he caught your eyes.
"What—didn't do—I'm so confused, love." Steve's jumbled words and your jumbled thoughts made you want to cry.
"Why don't you ever say anything?"
"I do—"
"No, you don't." That was a final tone. There was no need for a further explanation, but you had this pent up rant and frustration that you gave him the explanation. "You let me choose everything for you, Steve. Your clothes, your shoes, your food, EVERYTHING! You don't choose anything and you what? I'm sick of it! It makes me sick to think I'm controlling your every little thing! It makes me sick to look at you in the eyes and tell you that I wanna eat this or that and you agree to it! Without saying anything in return!
"I could be asking for brussel sprouts and you would say okay even though I know you hate it! You hate that shirt I chose out and said sure I'll wear it as if it doesn't matter what you think to me! I care about what you think! About what you want! About whatever you think! I care! But you never let me know what goes through that thick skull of yours, Steve! You care about me and that's all I ever hear!"
You took a breath, tears flowing down your cheeks and sniffling when you felt that familiar tickle in your nose.
"So tell me, Steve, why don't you ever say anything?"
Steve looked ashamed, pained, and confused all at once. His eyes were darting around with whatever overwhelming feelings were going through his head. You wished you could have gone easier and softer on him, just as he has always been with you, but you had exploded. You didn't even know if half of what you said made any sense, but you got your mind out there and that's what mattered to you at the moment.
That and Steve's response.
A few seconds of silence and your stomach started to drop.
A few minutes of silence and your heart followed your stomach.
"Y/N, I'm so sorry," Steve started, voice thick with emotions. "I didn't think—I didn't know that you felt like that. I just—I found it—I thought that this would've been avoided."
He didn't give you more so that meant you would have to ask him. Again.
"What would be avoided—"
"This!" He pointed between the two of you and heart lost a beat. "These arguments and fights! I wanted a peaceful life. I love you! I love you enough to swallow my dislikes!"
"I never asked you to do that!"
"You didn't have to!"
"Why would you assume I wanted—"
"It's what I wanted Y/N!"
Silence.
"I wanted to live peacefully with you. I wanted a life full of peace and love." Steve's blue eyes were trying to find yours, even though yours were trying to find anywhere else to look.
Tears were streaming down both of your faces by then. The argument was new. Arguing was new. New wounds were open and oozing out of them was hurt. Hurt was being transformed into words. Words were being thrown around and used as knives. Knives could be used to make wounds.
And you were back to square one.
"To love me, Steve, you need to accept the fact that we will fight. We will fight and come back to each other because we love each other." Your heart constricted in your chest when Steve shook his head. "Don't you love me enough to trust it?"
"I do." No hesitation on his part. He gave you the answer you were hoping for and you let out a sigh of relief.
"Then argue with me. Fight with me. Tell me what you dislike even if I like it." You reached out your hand and intertwined it with Steve's. He stepped closer to you and you looked up into his eyes, breath getting caught with the intensity of his pupils dilating more the longer he looked at you.
"I want to do what other couples do, Steve. Fight and make up. Argue and make up. Bicker with each other for no reason and laugh when we kiss. I want that, Steve. I don't want to get that sickly feeling when you agree with everything I say. It feels toxic."
"Okay," Steve breathed out, his free hand coming up to clear your cheeks of your tears and then tilted your face with your chin. "Can we make up, now?"
"Depends on how we're making up," you said, lips an inch away from his. His eyes flickered between your lips and your eyes. He found what he was looking for and he closed the inch between you, kissing you deeply as possible.
Kissing him made you feel like you were floating. When he lifted you up, wrapping your legs around his waist, you let out a moan, breaking the kiss. He never strayed away from you though, kissing down your neck and laying you back onto the bed.
"Do you want to—"
"Do what you want today, Steve, please," you whispered, hoping you never broke the bubble surrounding the two of you.
"Anything?" His eyes gleamed with something you had never before. Something that set your whole being on fire.
"Please," was the one word you come up with.
Steve didn't take long to undress the two of you. As said, he did what he wanted, asking you if it was alright and if you were okay at all the right times. He made sure you were comfortable and then helped you reach your high. The two of you shared hushed whispers, moans, and other sweet nothings in the dim lit room.
"If that's how we're going to make up every time we fight," Steve started, looking down at your face on his chest, "then I might start picking fights again."
"Like the good ol' days?" You joked, voice groggy with sleep.
"Something like that." His laugh rumbled in his chest and you kissed the spot right over his heart.
"I love fighting with you."
"I think I'm beginning to understand why you wanted regular fight sessions," Steve said, hand slipping down your spine and drawing out a shudder.
"Who said anything about regular?" You teased, chin coming to rest on his chest as you looked up at him. His eyes darkened and he rolled the two of you over.
As he hovered over you, he whispered, "Fight with me?"

It was dark inside the movie theater – only bright flashes of color as the screen played the horror flick. It smelt of buttered popcorn and warm pretzels, full of the sounds of crinkled wrappers and clinking ice cubes.
Not to mention the terrifying silence of the movie as the heroine peered around a darkened corner.
(Y/N) had long since eaten her popcorn, stress eating the bucket with exceptional speed, and was now scrunched in the chair with the tensest of muscles. Reclined in a cushioned theater seat, she pulled the blanket she brought to her chin, socked feet tucking closer and closer to her body.
She shouldn’t complain – it was her idea to see the latest and greatest scary movie after all. She had to say she was handling it better than her best friend positively quaking in the seat beside her.
Steven Grant – dependable, kind, intuitive Steven Grant – was not a fan of horror. Yet he still dealt with the ghosts, cults, and killers just to spend another evening with her.
(Y/N) couldn’t help but smile after the next jump scare. While she flinched terribly and clutched at her blanket, Steven nearly jumped a foot into the air. The next time they go out she would suggest getting a seatbelt for his chair.
“Shit,” he whispered tersely, “This is terrible.”
She smiled, “It’s so good.” She leaned closer to his side and found that he was already as close as he could get to her.
Their arms touched, (Y/N) much more scrunched than Steven and resting her head against his shoulder, supposedly to hide her face. From the high vantage point, Steven could gaze down and see her nuzzled against him.
(Y/N) would credit the fast pace of his heart to the movie. Steven would say it was from her touch.
The next jump scare, complete with a crescendo of sound, made Steven grip her hand with a cried, “Ah bollocks!”
She had to contain a giggle at his reaction, flickering her eyes to his hand covering the entirety of her own. She wiggled her fingers away from the blanket to thread between his.
His hand was limp at first, (Y/N) giving him a reassuring squeeze, supposedly to help him through the scariest bits.
Steven was scared alright, but not so much about the movie anymore. His dark eyes widened as her fingers found purchase between his. It was a blessing they were in the middle of a crowded theater where the proper etiquette was to remain quiet, because he would’ve said something terribly stupid and incoherent at the gesture.
He squeezed back, refraining from running his thumb along hers like he wanted to. Refraining from resting his head against hers like he wanted to. Refraining from lifting the armrest to pull her into a cuddle like he wanted to.
Instead they anxiously enjoyed the rest of the movie, holding hands as if it were just to support one another and not because they’ve been searching for an excuse to.
The credits began to roll, and (Y/N) promptly drew away, folding her blanket and grabbing the empty bucket of popcorn. Steven sat there and watched her a moment longer, hand open and waiting for her to take it again.
“Ready?” she asked, standing and looking at him with a questioning, if not puzzled, expression. “I’m not sure I can walk through the parking lot alone… in the dark.”
He took the hint with a few blinks to clear his lovestruck vision. “Course,” he said, “Allow me.” He draped her blanket over his arm and took the popcorn.
She smiled, leading the way outside. It was late into the night, cars surrounded by a blanket of chilled darkness. The only light came from a few yellowed streetlamps giving off a faint hum of electricity.
(Y/N) hummed her anxiety as they walked nearly shoulder to shoulder. Steven looked at her knowingly.
“You know, one would think loving horror movies meant you were past things like being afraid of the dark.”
“Movies are different,” she said defensively, but a smile was on her face, “I know it’s just a screen. But real life?” she looked around into the darkness, “My imagination kind of runs wild. There could be anything hiding in there.”
Steven hid a grin, “I think you like being scared.”
“No one likes being scared.”
“It’s your rush of adrenaline,” he said, letting her drive as he got into the passenger seat. “You’re an adrenaline junkie when you’re scared.”
She made sure the doors were locked – twice, “Maybe you’re right.” She eyed the dark streets tentatively before putting the keys into the ignition. “I’m going to regret it when I try to sleep tonight.”
Steven kept sneaking looks at her face. His hands were subconsciously fisted in the blanket.
“Do you… do you want to come back to my place, maybe?”
“And watch another scary movie?” she laughed.
“No, no…” he said with a wince, “Just until we calm down enough to sleep. If we’re going to be up all night scared we might as well do it together.”
She turned the wheel, “Not a bad idea.” She gave him a look, “As long as you don’t mind me possibly crashing there.”
Steven stared at her a moment before spluttering, “Oh, no not at all. You’re welcome to. You could take my bed if you wanted. In fact I insist. You should take my bed.”
She started laughed again, “Steven, I couldn’t take your bed. I’ll curl up on the lounge chair.”
He hummed his disapproval, “Oh that simply won’t do.”
“You don’t exactly have an adult sized couch in your flat,” she said, “And it’s not like I haven’t taken naps in that chair before.”
They bickered about it the entire car ride until (Y/N) cleverly said, “What are you going to do? Tie me up with that ankle restraint of yours?”
Every thought evaporated from Steven’s mind at that image.
They got into the flat with a heated discussion of the movie plot – the quality of scares, number of twists, and overall acting – it made their nerves flutter into something more lighthearted. Steven offered to make a cup of tea and (Y/N) occupied the lounge chair near the little tv.
“I just don’t understand why someone would willingly choose to walk towards a scary noise,” Steven mused, pouring the kettle into two mugs. “It’s like they have no survival instincts, innit?”
(Y/N) craned her neck to talk to him, “I’d walk towards a scary noise.”
“You would not.”
“I would want to know who’s breaking into my bloody house! You think I’d go to sleep after hearing something and not investigating?”
Steven opened a box of teabags, “And that, love, is why you’d be the first character to die.”
“Nonsense,” she chortled, “You’d give yourself away with calling out ‘hello?’ and become the next target.”
There was a faint pop and the entire flat fell into darkness. It was as if someone threw a bag over their heads, muffling not just light but the sound as well. It was eerily quiet and full of pinpricks on the back of the neck.
(Y/N) was the first to let out a breath, “Steven?” It was only a couple seconds later but her fear drew out the time.
“Hang on,” came his voice, “Power might’ve gone out.”
A clatter on the table and a hiss from Steven meant he bumped into the cups of tea. He was scrambling for the light switch near the door.
(Y/N) pulled her knees to her chest, turning towards where she knew the window was. It was dark outside, but she was hoping to see the streetlamps below through the glass. The fact that she couldn’t see a speck of light told her that the power might’ve gone out on the whole block.
The clicking of the light switch preceded Steven groaning, “It’s a power outage.” He gave a huffy laugh, “Brilliant.”
“Um… Steven?”
He tensed at her voice, “Yeah?”
She swallowed hard, “Could you come over here? I’m…” She sounded small, as if the dark was stifling her, “It’s a little scary.”
“Right – yeah, ‘course.” He licked his lips, extending his arms to feel for any incoming furniture as his eyes adjusted to the darkness. “Oof, sorry,” he apologized to the dining table that bit into his shin.
(Y/N) jumped at the crash but was grateful for the sound distracting her from what could be lurking in the dark. Steven kept apologizing to the things he was toppling over.
The books on the desk, stubbing his toe, “Sorry.” The rug tripping his feet, “So sorry.”
He could vaguely make out the lounge chair and (Y/N)’s silhouette, “Hello there.”
She gave a shaky sigh, “Hi.”
Steven crouched beside her, holding onto the armrest, “Are you alright?” He tried to make out her face in the dark, clearly more frightened than his own.
“How unlucky to have seen a horror movie right before a blackout,” her little laugh was strained, “I think my nerves are shot.”
“Oh,” he sounded worried, “Oh, it’s alright. It’s just a little power outage. There’s nothing to be scared of here.”
“Just the dark.”
Steven smiled, “Nope, I’m afraid it’s just me and Gus. There’s nothing else here.”
Her hand found his against the armrest, “Could we sit here… just until the lights come back on.”
White noise filled Steven’s head, his expression going slack. He hesitated while he thought of sitting there just him and (Y/N) for what could be hours. “Of course, love.”
She pulled on his wrist, urging him into the chair.
He fumbled, “Oh you mean… in the… right.” He awkwardly fell into the chair, pressed snug to (Y/N). He held his hands out, unsure where to put them, laying their stiffly with nowhere to go.
(Y/N) took the initiative, wrapping her arms around his waist, half laying on him with a leg bent between his. He just laid there, scrunched and uncomfortable with his hands poised in the air around them.
She squeezed him, sighing into his side, and his stomach flipped.
“Steven.”
“Yeah,” he whispered dryly. The funny feeling in his stomach was taking hold of his throat.
“You can hold me back,” she said, “It might be a while before the lights come on – I need you to protect me.”
He choked, “Right, sorry.”
His hands were tentative as he wrapped them around her waist. Some of his fingers found her ribs and became frozen. One swipe up with his thumb and he’d be brushing the underside of her…
“Are you okay?” she suddenly asked. “You’re hardly breathing.”
The only noise Steven could make was a strangled laugh.
His soft, hesitant fingers were sending goosebumps across her arms.
“Are you feeling better about the dark?” he asked quietly.
“Yes,” she said, feeling all warm and covered in pinpricks. “Thanks to you.”
“My pleasure,” he said. He was starting to melt into her. Now not so uncomfortable with their position. He wrapped around her more tightly, finding comfort in the way her head nestled beneath his chin.
It was the perfect excuse to hold her close. First the horror movie and then the blackout. One would think unseen forces were trying to draw them together.
After a long few moments, Steven cleared his throat, stirring her against him.
“What is it?” she asked, eyes fully adjusted to the dark now. She watched his fingers find a seam in her shirt and begin to nervously trace and pick at it.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said above the sound of his own thrumming heart, “We’ve been friends for a while, yeah?”
She smiled, “Best friend I have.”
The pride filling his chest in combination with his erratic heart was making it more difficult to continue, “Well, I was thinking, what would you say to getting dinner with me?”
“What, at that new Thai place we talked about earlier?”
“No,” he said quickly, “No, I was thinking something in a nicer part of town.”
She leaned into him, “You want to get all dressed up?”
“And take you out.”
She stilled against him, and his heart leapt into his throat, effectively choking him as he awaited her response.
“Take me out… like on a date?”
He fought every nerve in his body to keep his voice even. “Yeah, if you like. But if not we could try that Thai place like you said.” He held onto her as if his confession would make her want to leave. “It was just a thought.”
There was a smile in her tone when she finally replied, “You beat me to it.” She had to hold him back just as tightly to keep herself from squirming, “I’ve been spending all night trying to come up with a way to tell you.”
He was shifting in her grasp, trying to get her to look at him, “What?”
She felt that flip in her stomach to hear his disbelief, and she rose her head to meet his gaze, “It’s been months now,” she said warmly, “And I still haven’t found the right way to tell you I love you.”
Steven gawked, incoherent strings of words falling from his mouth. “I… I love you too.” He turned achingly sweet, a hand rising to cup her cheek and touch her hair. “I love you too!” he repeated, eyes crinkling in the corners as a smile overtook his face.
And the dark wasn’t so scary anymore.
