#steve harrington watches westerns

Thinking about how there’s one area in which Steve can, in fact, be described as a film buff. When he shows up for his turn at picking the movie with a bunch of classic westerns. Everyone except Robin (too much respect for film history) and Nancy (too much respect for herself) moan and groan, fake gag and roll their eyes and generally gripe about Steve’s selections. It’s baffling and honestly more than a little hurtful. The rule that month to pick only movies made before 1965 was Robin’s idea, not Steve’s. And he’s watched everyone else’s picks without complaints (at least, not this level of complaint).
“Sorry Steve,” Dustin at least gives him a verbal explanation instead of just making fake snoring noises, “Just seems really old and stuffy and unrelatable.”
“But it’s Stagecoach, it’s about a group of outsiders drawn together in dangerous circumstances trying to survive! How is that not relatable?” He protests, “And everything else we watched this month was old!”
He gets a head waggle in response that seems to mean that it’s just different when he’s the one whose taste is on the line.
“Yeah but really Steve?” Max adds, “All that cowboys and Indians crap? What are you, six?”
“I brought High Noon too, they’re not fighting Indians in that. He looks around for any support.
“Just not our communal cup of tea. We’re more of a science fiction-fantasy crowd Stevie,” Eddie looks unenthused then grins, “But you should ask Wayne if he wants to do a movie night.”
Steve cringes- it’s true Westerns had been his grandfather’s favorite thing. Before he was old enough to stay by himself it had always been fun staying with his grandparents, watching them on tv in the afternoon. It was a little bit square for his friends but still… “But it’s all what do you call ‘em? Epics. Teams of outlaws living by their own rules, betrayal, battles between good and evil, friends dying to protect each other, hero stories! You nerds love that shit!”
They remain unconvinced. It sucks. Steve really thought he was on to something, nervous for weeks that he wouldn’t know any old movies to pick except Snow White or something dorky like that. And when the 1965 rule was up next month he’d thought he could bring Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (more confusing to his early sexuality than even Star Wars) or maybe The Wild Bunch - one of his only really good memories of spending a day with his dad was when he’d taken Steve to watch it at the old movie theater near his office. School was closed and his mother was doing the Christmas shopping and dropped Steve off so he wouldn’t slow her down. For once his dad hadn’t immediately palmed Steve off on his secretary to babysit, but had declared that the two of them would play hooky and spend the afternoon at the movies. His mother was so mad that his father had let him watch such a violent movie but Steve had been enthralled.

been seeing some punk!steve content going around... based on the era & joe keery's hair type i'm gonna throw my hat in the ring for punk!steve with spiked hair instead of a sideshave. a choppy cut and a handful of gel is all he'd need for a properly punk 'do, with a little more effort he could easily get something fancier. i'm personally partial to this little reverse-fauxhawk situation you see sometimes, kinda feels like the punk equivalent of steve's usual coif

Scout's Honor - Eddie Munson x Reader

Collaboration with my dearest @munson-blurbs
An As You Wish story
Summary: The annual Father-Daughter Girl Scout Square Dance comes around but Eddie and Steve are saddled with some car trouble.
Note: Everyone needs to go thank Bug for this incredibly adorable idea!
Words: 2.1k
[As You Wish masterlist]
Tumblr media
Men.
Can’t live with them, can’t…convince them not to go fishing on the day of their daughters’ Girl Scouts events.
Eddie and Steve had promised you and Nancy that they would be home in time to take Eliza and Mia to the annual square dance.
“We’ll get an early start,” they’d said, ignoring Eliza’s insistence that she won’t go with her father if he reeks of fish. He’d just laughed, kissed her cheek, and reiterated that he would shower before the dance.
Maybe you’re naive for believing him. And yet, when the phone rang and Eddie’s sheepish voice explains that Steve’s car broke down—codeword for ‘we ran out of gas’—you’re wholly unsurprised.
“I always made fun of Wayne for fishing.” Eddie muses, the payphone crackling as he exhales. “Called it an old man activity. This is what I get.”
You grit your teeth, hand clenched in a fist. “Just…get home,” you hiss, hanging up the receiver and massaging your temples.
Who could have ever foreseen such an outcome?
While you’re stewing over the men’s incompetence, Mia remains levelheaded—just like her mother—and proposes a solution. “What if Luke and Ryan take us?”
Her suggestion is almost certainly rooted in her crush on your younger son, but it proves to be a worthwhile idea, nonetheless. Eliza’s face lights up, and before you know it, your five-year-old is dragging her brothers from their room.
“Please?” She pouts sweetly, batting her doe eyes up at them. “Daddy and Uncle Steve can’t make it, and we can’t go all alone.” She lays it on thick, knowing full well she doesn’t have to—the boys would do just about anything for her.
Ryan and Luke raid Eddie’s dresser drawers for flannels, finding the ones that he had nabbed from Wayne’s trailer. The girls don cowgirl hats, excitedly giggling as they climb into the back of the minivan. It’s still strange for you to see Ryan behind the wheel, but your heart swells with pride as you watch him double-check Eliza’s booster seat before pulling out of the driveway.
At seventeen years old, Eddie Munson spent his Saturday nights selling cheap weed at high school parties—many of them, ironically, thrown by “King” Steve Harrington.
At seventeen years old, Ryan Munson is spending his Saturday night taking his little sister and her best friend to the Girl Scouts square dance.
“Everyone buckled?” He calls back, already knowing that they are. Still, he waits until he receives a chorus of yeses before he drives off.
Luke turns around from the passenger seat. “Now, do we have to make a perfect square?” He keeps a serious expression, much to Ryan’s amusement. “Like, what if it’s a bit oval-y? Do we get kicked out? Do you two get banished from the Girl Scouts?”
Eliza and Mia are both used to his nonsense, and they burst into a fit of giggles. Ryan cracks a smile of his own, eyes trained on the road.
Precious cargo and all that.
When they arrive at the old VFW hall, the girls immediately pull them over to their group of friends. It’s a sea of young girls and their dads—and some moms—but nary a big brother in sight except for the two Munson boys.
Ryan barely has time to feel out of place. The emcee, a middle-aged woman with bright pink lipstick and a too-wide smile, grabs the mic.
“Welcome to our Father-Daughter Square Dance!” The room erupts into applause, quieting down only to hear about how this fundraiser supports the Girl Scouts of Indiana. The scouts repeat their pledge, which is met with more cheers, and then a western tune bleats over the old sound system.
Eliza grabs Ryan’s hand as the emcee calls out instructions. Mia is a bit shyer with Luke, but they still manage all of the steps without stomping on the other’s toes.
“Liza, I’m sorry Dad couldn’t make it,” Ryan says between songs.
Eliza gives him a small smile. “That’s okay. It’s kinda cooler to bring my big brother.”
He grins. Just wait until his dad hears that.
As everyone is getting into position for the next dance, a new song comes on that has more banjo than Luke has ever heard in his life.
“Oh, yeah. We’re definitely in Indiana,” he says.
Mia chuckles as she peeks up at Luke from beneath the brim of her straw cowgirl hat. A blue ribbon on one of her red pigtail braids is loose so Luke reaches down to fix it for the little girl. Mia’s freckled face blooms as red as her hair. Luke pretends not to notice, not wanting to embarrass her. The big crush on Luke became obvious when she was three, and now at ten, it’s still hanging around. The fifteen-year-old Munson boy thinks it’s flattering and only ever teases her if she starts it first.
“Ready?” Luke asks, offering Mia his hand.
“Ready!”
Tumblr media
“But I didn't realize any of this until I was standing alone. In a barn... wife-less. Now, you can imagine my disappointment when it suddenly dawned on me that the woman I love is about to be kicked out of the country. So, Margaret. Marry me. Because I'd like to date you.”
Both you and Nancy hold your wine glasses, neither moving a muscle as you watch Ryan Reynolds catch up to Sandra Bullock in a New York City office building. An empty pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream sits between you on the couch, two green-smudged silver spoons resting inside.
With the men out fishing, Ryan and Luke out with the two girls, and Natalie watching the rest of the kids over at the Harrington house, your place became the ultimate Mom’s Night In for you and Nancy. A chance to drink a little, gossip a little, have some snacks and watch some romcoms.
Your peace has finally come to an end, however, when the front door bursts open and two men who reek of murky water, bug spray, and gasoline come barging in.
“Jesus, Steve,” Nancy says, face pinching up at the foul odor wafting from your husbands.
You wave a hand in front of your face as if that will make the smell dissipate any faster.
“How were the fish?” you ask, turning your head away to give your nostrils a fighting chance.
“We caught a grand total of zero,” Steve says with a sigh, his black fishing boots looking comically misplaced on him. Neither of the men look natural in fishing gear. But when a guy from work offered Eddie the use of his boat for the day, he found he couldn’t turn it down.
“Did you bring the fishing poles?” Nancy asks, sarcasm lining the amusement on her face.
Both men give her an annoyed side eye before Eddie looks around and takes a step towards you.
“Where are the girls?” he asks.
“Ryan and Luke took them to the dance,” you tell him. “They should be back soon.”
Steve grimaces and claps a heavy hand down on Eddie’s shoulder.
“Eliza’s gonna kill you.”
Eddie raises his eyebrows and spins to meet his friend’s eye.
“And Mia won’t kill you?”
Steve grins. “Not if she got to dance with Luke.” This is the only time the man has ever been thankful for Mia’s crush on the Munson teen.
Front door still open from when the men barged in, Ryan, Luke, Eliza, and Mia walk inside, laughing and talking over one another. Ryan is giving Eliza a piggyback ride and Luke has Mia’s too-small cowgirl hat perched on top of his head. The moment Eliza’s wide brown eyes spot her father, she demands answers.
“Daddy, where were you?”
Ryan gently lets her down and she stomps over in her beige cowgirl boots, stopping right in front of Eddie.
“Liza, I’m so sorry,” Eddie pleads. “Our car broke down. We tried everything we could to get back in time—”
Tears build up in Eliza’s eyes and Eddie feels his heart constrict in his chest. It might as well be Eliza’s little fist squeezing it.
“You were s’post to go with me!”
Eddie sighs and runs a ringed, smelly hand over his face. “I know. And I promise I’ll go next time. But I’m glad you got to bring your brothers.
“Did you have fun at least?” Steve asks from behind him.
Mia nods emphatically and both you and Nancy have to bite your lips to keep from smiling.
Eliza nods in agreement, although not as enthusiastically as her friend. “Yeah. And Ryan is a good dancer.”
Luke smirks, and if Eddie were looking at him, he’d see the devious glint in his eye. “Not as good as Dad, I’m sure.”
Loud snickers come from you, Nancy, and Steve. Eddie’s jaw drops open as he looks around the room.
“I can dance!”
“Yeah, Dad?” Ryan asks.
“Yeah!”
“Lucky for you, we’re all right here to witness it,” Luke says with a shrug.
Eddie scoffs and shakes his head. “There’s no music. And I don’t really think my Metallica is easy to groove to.”
“We’ve got my Billy Joel—” you start.
“Or my *NSYNC!” Mia adds.
“No,” Eddie says. “Thank you girls, but no.”
Smirk only growing larger, Luke pats his father on the shoulder. “Lucky for you, we’ve got just what you need.”
Eddie raises an eyebrow as he watches his son take a CD out of a Target bag he was conveniently hiding behind his back.
“How was fishing, by the way?” Luke asks as he wrestles with the plastic engulfing the case.
“Pointless,” Steve says.
“Your uncle didn’t bring enough bait,” Eddie added. Steve is about to refute but Luke speaks before he gets the chance.
“But you would have, Dad? Does that make you a master baiter?”
Ryan is the only one who is unable to contain his laughter. The joke goes over the girls’ heads, but you give your son a soft glare anyway. Never mind that you found it hilarious, just as you know the other adults did as well, but sometimes you’ve got to be the parent.
Luke shrugs it off and pops the finally-freed CD into the stereo and the sound of a bow sawing over fiddle strings fills the room. Your second-oldest nods his head to Eliza.
“Go ahead, Lize. Show the old man how it’s done.”
“There’s not enough room to square dance in here,” Eddie says.
Without even so much as glancing at one another, you and Nancy get off of the couch and push it back, making plenty more space in the living room. The two of you smirk at one another and Nancy crosses her arms over her chest.
“Y’know, I don’t think it’s fair that you guys get to reap the benefits of your daughters being Girl Scouts without putting in the work.”
A grin grows on your face as you see where Nancy is going with this.
“Yeah,” you agree, “maybe you don’t need more Samoas this year.”
Eddie’s face falls, and he looks at Steve, who shrugs in defeat. Gotta hit the guys where it hurts: food.
“All right, show us the moves,” Steve says.
Mia grins, a bounce in her step as she takes Eliza’s smaller hand and walks to the middle of the floor. “Okay, me and Liza will be partners. Just watch us.”
Steve furrows his eyebrows and looks between the two girls, one with now-messy twin red braids, and the other with a light brown cowgirl hat atop two curly pigtails.
“Wait, if you two are dancing together, who are Eddie and I dancing with?” he asks.
Eliza giggles. “Each other.”
“Nope,” Eddie replies. “No way.”
With an over dramatic sigh, you shrug your shoulders at your husband. “No dancing, no Samoas.”
“Damn those little coconut fuckers,” Eddie mumbles under his breath. “All right, big boy. But I get to be the guy.”
“Sure, we’ll play pretend,” Steve quips back. It’ll be a miracle if they both make it through the first dance alive.
Eliza and Mia begin to go through the motions, showing their fathers what to do. Everyone is laughing as they do-si-do and hook arms to swing each other around.
“Did I earn my cookies yet?” Eddie asks once the next song ends.
“That’s up to your daughter,” you tell him with a shrug.
Eddie looks at Eliza expectantly, the big puppy dog eyes that he passed down to her working their magic.
“Almost, Daddy. You gotta dance with me first.”
“Now that, I can do.”

Steve has this little thing he does and Eddie isn’t sure he realizes what it is. Or that he’s doing it. Or that it’s driving him absolutely insane.
Now, Eddie’s no stranger to fidgeting. That is definitely something he engages in as constantly as possible. He often shifts the guitar pick on his necklace. And he absentmindedly picks the threads on his jeans or he’ll plunge his finger back and forth in the button holes of his vest. Sometimes, he’ll use his index finger to trace the zipper teeth on the sleeves of his leather jacket. He’s just a texture guy, likes being able to feel things constantly. Shift them around. Give his fingers something to do in a moment of much needed distraction.
It’s just how his brain works. And he’s ninety-nine percent sure that Steve’s brain works similarly.
He puts things in his mouth. Yup. That’s what Steve does. That’s his thing. Sometimes it’s just his fingers. Nibbling away at his fingernails or tearing at hangnails, which can’t ever feel good. If he gets sauce on his fingers, he licks it off instead of using a napkin. (That one in particular has made Eddie flee to the bathroom several times. Can you blame a guy?)
The thing that’s going to kill Eddie, though, is this stupid cotton candy flavored Dum-Dum sucker Steve packed with his lunch. He’d come in to find a movie for him and Wayne to watch later that night, wanted to invite Steve over and that’s when he saw it. The sucker.
It began normally. “Hey, Stevie!” He had greeted. The door chimed above him. And Steve gave him a half-hearted wave from behind the counter. He was sitting on a metal stool, back towards the door, face down at the counter, sketching out things on the inventory list. A wobbling stack of—what appeared to be—horror tapes beside him. Fresh from delivery, most likely. Eddie paid no mind. Waltzed towards the westerns, standing idle in front of the movies momentarily as his eyes took in the sheer amount of Chuck Norris films, and found one he hoped Wayne hadn’t seen before. (Which, now that he thinks about it, is highly unlikely. He wouldn’t be surprised if Wayne went to him one day to say he was gay for Chuck Norris. He’s like an absent husband at the Munson’s.)
He rang the little service bell to get Steve’s help checking out. And nearly buckled at the knees. Steve’s lips were spit slick and lightly stained pink. It popped from out of his mouth, his lips a perfect ‘O’ shape. And his tongue was also a delicious bright pink. Eddie was so distracted by the whole display, he didn’t even realize that Steve was actually speaking. That his spit was more interesting than whatever bullshit Family Video regime he was mumbling.
“Huh?” Eddie dumbly said while blinking back to existence.
Steve chuckled. “I asked if that was all you needed today, Eds.”
I could think of something else, Eddie thought, still staring at Steve’s mouth. He shook his head, curls whipping about, hopefully covering the embarrassing flush on his cheeks. “No—I—This—Wayne wanted to kiss—I mean watch—“ Eddie stopped himself with a heaving sigh. “Yeah, this is all I need.”
He swallowed down the rest of what he wanted to say. Tried to cover for himself. But he was weak in the knees once more. The sucker went back into Steve’s mouth, lolling over his teeth, clinking. His tongue was probably doing gymnastics trying to savor the flavor of that stupid thing. Probably suckling around it. Mouth pooling with spit. Eddie forced himself to lean against the counter, palms spread and flat against the surface, head dipped down so that he couldn’t see his demise anymore. But that still didn’t stop his mind from wandering. Thinking about what Steve’s mouth probably tastes like, sugar sweet and oddly fruity. Didn’t stop the sudden flashes of make out sessions they could be having, hiding behind the ‘Adults Only’ curtain, pinned up against—
“Dude!” Steve suddenly shouted. And Eddie found his eyes back on Steve’s face, dipping low to his lips. That sucker was still in his mouth. And he was right, there’s so much spit. He wishes that was his tongue in—“Eddie, are you alright, man? Why do you keep looking at me like that?” He sounded nervous. Even a little…embarrassed.
Fuck, that’s not how he wants Steve to feel around him. He scolds himself mentally, again. Stop being a perv, he tells himself. But his musings are futile.
He sighed once more. “I’m fine,” he muttered, “tired, that’s all.” Gave his best smile, but completely shattered once more when Steve pulled the lollipop out of his mouth. A thin string of saliva connecting it to his lips. His tongue darting out to break it. He couldn’t stop staring. Couldn’t stop himself from yearning. Couldn’t help the way he leaned further over the counter, completely in Steve’s warm orbit, nearly nose to nose.
Steve nervously giggled, but he didn’t step away. In fact, he licked his lips, darted his eyes, and for some odd reason…his cheeks grew bright pink. “I—Eds, you’re really—“
“Why are you so pretty?” Bursted from Eddie. He groaned. “It’s really not fair. And you’re single? What the fuck is wrong with people?”
“Eddie, what are you—“
“You fucking lick a stupid sucker and now I’m losing my mind. What the hell,” Eddie murmured. “Like I just wanna—“ He quickly looked over his shoulder, the parking lot desolate through the windows, the aisles completely clean, and turned his gaze back at Steve. His hands jumped up from on the counter, grabbed the lapels of Steve’s stupidly cute pink polo, and pulled him in. “I’m gonna kiss you,” he whispered, “and you can kill me later for it.”
As Steve began to nod, Eddie surged forward. It wasn’t a pretty kiss. And it wasn’t a neat one, either. Steve’s lips were moist, sticky with sugar, and stupidly soft. He slipped his tongue out, licking between his lips, tasting cotton candy. And was slightly shocked when Steve let him in. Letting him taste inside his mouth. Trace his teeth, connect their spit, share that sucker.
When he pulled back, popping off of Steve’s bottom lip, he immediately dropped his hands. Horrible realization dawned on him. His eyes widened. Mouth dropping open. Cheeks flushing. “Fuck,” he spat. “I’m sorry, I don’t—That was—You’re my friend, I shouldn’t have done that.”
But as their eyes met, he let himself relax slightly. Steve’s eyes were wide, but glistening. Something soft about them. He was smiling, teeth, spit, pink stains and all. “I have been waiting months for you to do that,” he said simply.
“What,” Eddie could only muster, his voice distant with disbelief.
“I have been waiting months for you to do that,” Steve repeated. “You’re not a very subtle looker. But that was—Jesus Christ, I could like taste your yearning.” Eddie began to crumple. This was a bad idea, he briefly thought. Though Steve whispered, flirtatiously and in awe, “That was so fucking hot.”
Eddie hummed. He relaxed completely. Placing his hands back on the lapels of Steve’s shirt. Thumbs rubbing in circles over the fabric. It was scratchy under his fingertips, it felt good. He sighed through his nose. Smirked something teasing. “I was going to invite you over tonight for that movie,” Eddie began, voice low and husky. “But maybe we could leave Wayne to it and…I’ve got some room in my van. Go out to the quarry. Show me what else your mouth can do.”
For how much of a ladies man Steve Harrington supposedly is, he’s too easy to fluster. Going warm and bright red under Eddie’s gaze. Melting positively into the slight hold Eddie still has on him. “Okay,” he murmured, “What time?”
“As soon as your shift is over, come to mine. Bring yourself, this cute little polo, and your pretty mouth. I’ve got plans with you, sugar.”
Kissing Steve Harrington’s sucker sweet mouth is probably Eddie’s new favorite way of fidgeting. And he finds, much much later, that it fulfills needs for the both of them.

Okay I NEED to know what the current most popular slash ships are, being on tumblr just feels like slash fandom is dying out, and I'd like to look up some ships because even if I don't like them, following other slash shippers feels so much nicer than seeing people bash them all the time.
--
On AO3, the m/m category is a tag like any other.
That means you can go directly to that tag and look at the sidebar, either in general or filtered for the past year. (No need to rely on those faulty ship stats.)
Broadly, the really massive juggernauts are still going, chugging along on fanon long after their canons have ended or gone to shit. A bunch of fandoms that younger people like are huge. And a lot of older people who used to only be into Western fandoms fell for The Untamed a few years ago and are now into lots of other danmei and BL fandoms. Thai dramas seem to be really heating up lately.
--
Here's the sidebar in general:
Castiel/Dean Winchester (108832)
Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski (68896)
Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter (66461)
Sherlock Holmes/John Watson (66324)
James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers (60107)
Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens) (51611)
Steve Rogers/Tony Stark (44020)
Sirius Black/Remus Lupin (42921)
Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson (42063)
filtering those out:
Bakugou Katsuki/Midoriya Izuku (39754)
Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian (37086)
Jeon Jungkook/Kim Taehyung | V (36739)
Keith/Lance (Voltron) (32031)
Dean Winchester/Sam Winchester (30843)
Magnus Bane/Alec Lightwood (29711)
Merlin/Arthur Pendragon (Merlin) (29591)
Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter (28681)
Jeon Jungkook/Park Jimin (28574)
Dazai Osamu/Nakahara Chuuya (Bungou Stray Dogs) (28260)
Or filtered for updating in the past year:
Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens) (14878)
Sirius Black/Remus Lupin (12640)
Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson (10617)
Dazai Osamu/Nakahara Chuuya (Bungou Stray Dogs) (10353)
Bakugou Katsuki/Midoriya Izuku (8964)
Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter (8391)
Alhaitham/Kaveh (Genshin Impact) (8284)
Regulus Black/James Potter (7721)
filtering those out:
John "Soap" MacTavish/Simon "Ghost" Riley (6879)
Castiel/Dean Winchester (6751)
Blackbeard | Edward Teach/Stede Bonnet (6723)
Getou Suguru/Gojo Satoru (6253)
Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian (6245)
Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz (9-1-1 TV) (6228)
Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor (5725)
Han Jisung | Han/Lee Minho | Lee Know (5632)
Jeon Jungkook/Kim Taehyung | V (5201)
Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter (4199)
In general, I would look at things with canon gay and/or at big anime, c-drama, and kpop RPF fandoms.
And block dickheads liberally when you see them in the tags on tumblr.
If you want to hang out with oldschool people, you could always come to Escapade con. We should be having an online one some time in the summer. There's also a discord. We're currently doing a group watch of Mysterious Lotus Casebook among other things.

Moodboard • Episode 01: Firetower
Blood shone in thick, dark splatters across a freckled cheekbone. It stuck his hair to his ear and his collar to his throat. It stained a shoulder. You watched it glimmer under street lamps, watched the clench of his knuckles around the steering wheel, watched the bob of his Adam’s apple as he avoided your gaze.
There was no point saying it anymore, the words exhausted their meaning a year ago, but it was true nonetheless. You can’t save everyone. You both knew it. It didn’t hurt less.
You mopped at the blood splatter on your own cheeks with a spare t-shirt to flirt a discount out of the motel attendant. He slid you a key on a novelty ring while Steve parked on the far side of the lot.
You’d set the phone on its receiver by the time he exited the shower. You rinsed bloody clothes in the sink and brushed your teeth and slipped into an oversized t-shirt. You couldn’t remember who it belonged to. Maybe you’d picked it up at a thrift store along the way.
“Owens?” He asked, voice gruff, eyes red. A claw mark dug into the flesh of his cheek, to the bone.
You reached into your duffle for the first aid kit to procure ointment and a butterfly bandage. “Sit.”
He sighed, but did as instructed, towel falling to his shoulder. He winced as you patted ointment into his wound. “Did he say where to go next?”
You nodded, pressing his flesh together until it wrinkled near his eye. “Small town in Western Montana. Locals think it’s the water supply. Park ranger called it in.”
“How far?”
“Eight hours.” You zipped the kit closed and wedged it back into your bag.
“Okay,” he muttered, tossing his towel into a corner near the sink. He stretched sore muscles with a groan, and you watched the bruise on his ribs bloom in greens and browns. The swelling was down significantly from two days earlier. “We’ll leave first thing.”
He meant first light. You glanced out a fogged window at the glow of street lamps. The vacancy sign buzzed bright red. The sky remained dark just beyond.
“Okay.” You sighed and toed under linens that had yellowed years ago.
Steve triple checked the lock and toted his bat from the nook near the front door to his bedside. Then, he pulled his lighter from his pants pocket and shook it to his ear. By the look on his face, it needed a refill. He placed it to the bedside table between you, just beside the Bible.
“Are you okay?” He’d asked it four times already, a compulsion you’d learned to ignore.
“Yes.” You knew better than to reciprocate, knew he wouldn’t answer you anyway. You had minimal sleep hours left. It wasn’t worth the fight. You can’t save everyone.
“I’m going to turn the light out.” He warned, sliding himself into his own double bed. A large hand reached beneath an orange lampshade and the room went dark.
The darkness was spotted orange and blue, and you fought back the images of Steve’s fists meeting and elderly man’s face. You fought back the screams that rang in your ears, the copper taste on your tongue, and that pang that lay permanent in your nostrils.
Steve shifted in his bed, springs groaning beneath his weight, and you honed in on him instead. Every night, you fell asleep to the steady in and out of his breath, the comfort of him an arm’s length away.
The ranger’s uniform matched the coffee and cream in your styrofoam cup. The confusion knit between his brows matched those of dozens of local law enforcement across this country over the last year. You flashed you badges and asked him to take a seat, and hours later you were holding your hand over your nose to mask the smell of decay.
The corners of Steve’s mouth pulled upwards in a grim apology, sipping his own coffee.
A room full of National Guardsmen looked aghast. There was no guarantee a burn of that size could stay contained. Half of the state could be up in flames by the end of the week.
“Better than the alternative.” You promised.
The Spread started on a cattle ranch north of town, the herd dwindling as calves and heifers slipped into cracks and broke legs and necks. A large crevasse rotted through a patch in the back forty, splitting the land down the middle from government land near to the rancher’s estate.
On the back side, it seeped into the river. Trees were downed and turned to mush and rot. Where once sat a hunting perch, now folded into a vat in the ground.
The Ranger had taken you up by four-wheeler, an excursion neither of you had been prepared for in slacks and blazers. You supposed those were hazards of the job though, wading through the remnants of a hillside in nylon stockings.
Steve rolled the cuffs of his sleeves up past his elbows to dive into the meat of a fallen tree. It came back green and gooey, but nothing had nest inside. Not yet, at least.
“You called just in time,” he wiped his hand on his pant leg and you dry heaved a little.
“So this… virus,” the Ranger gestured to the pocket of melted flesh, root to branch, “it can infect humans too?”
“If it festers too long,” you nodded.
“And what might that look like?” He asked like he already knew the answer.

[A/N: Here she is. These two have been my new best friends lately, the one thing I've written that actually stuck because it felt good. Let's hope it stays that way so I can keep riding this train. I don't know how often I'll update this, but it'll be on-going. I'd love to write blurbs, and I have a few episode locations/monsters in mind.
I'd really appreciate it if you reblogged and/or left me a comment. Or if you're more inclined, head to my Ao3 and leave me a comment there. It'd really mean the whole world. xoxoxo]

All I Ever Knew, Only You 12: The Return
Tumblr media
Chapter Twelve.
Now I see you, trouble, it's coming up ahead, Black dogs running through the fields, They're dripping red, The world is quiet and there's nothing left unsaid, A million image, million capture, million dead.
Summary: Hawkins was your typical quaint, mid-western town where nothing ever happened. People were born here, lived their entire lives within the town limits, and eventually died here, peacefully in their sleep. But one cold November evening in 1983 would change everything.
Despite a child with psychokinetic abilities and ravenous monsters that lacked faces, stranger things had definitely happened in the small town in Indiana. One of them being your reluctant and slightly imposed friendship with Hawkins High’s own King Bee, Steve Harrington.
Characters: Steve Harrington x Non-descriptive F!Reader (eventual)
Words: 5,028
Chapter Warnings: Explicit language, mentions of death (incl. murder oopsie daisy), bonding, Dustin is my whole heart, but also a little a-hole sometimes.
Series Warnings: Strong language, mentions of underage drinking, mentions of drug use, canon-typical violence, mentions of alcohol abuse, mentions of possible mental health disorders, child abuse, slow burn, kinda enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, I like to call it ‘two idiots who begrudgingly befriend each other only to realize… ‘wait a damn minute…’, eventual sexual content, no use of y/n, canon-typical time-period bullshit. 18+. Chapter Twelve: The Return
Watching as Mike was held back by some kind of invisible force, shouting and pleading to be let past, Hopper’s concerned brow as the pieces of whatever puzzle he was trying to solve finally fit together in his brain, their voices were drowned out by a continuous banging sound.
Slowly turning, Eleven’s breath caught in her throat when she saw you, your body trying in vain to keep something closed, to keep something out. And one ferocious, shrill growl told her exactly what it was that was after you.
The growl echoed in the back of El’s head as she realized it wasn’t just one. She could hear the grunts and shallow breathing of the others, but your body pining something closed was all she could concentrate on. The fear and horror in your eyes, the banging shoving you forward, little by little, as you quietly prayed to not lose your balance, your sneakers slowly sliding across the floor.
You were all going to die.
Tumblr media
“They’re going somewhere.”
Steve’s voice was the only sound that hadn't been drowned out by the blood rushing around in your ears. The monsters had run into the woods, and El had been missing for God knows how long. You prayed she’d found Mike and was safe with him, even if it meant she had broken her promise to Hopper, but a heavy, sickening feeling in your gut told you she wasn’t. And if El was still missing, traipsing around the woods, then there was a good chance those monsters would find her, and although you knew Eleven could stand her ground against one of them, you didn’t want to think about what a group — albeit, smaller — could do.
Especially if she didn’t know they were coming.
“Your stupid pet could’ve eaten us!” Lucas yelled, his eyebrows furrowed together at Dustin’s sheer stupidity at keeping a damn Demogorgon that had eaten his cat.
Storming back over, you pushed between the two, “Hey, assholes. I don’t care who broke your loser code first, alright? And I don’t give a shit about Dustin’s cat, either. But unless you wanna end up like Mews, I suggest we leave. So if you can’t argue and walk at the same time then just shut up and let's go.”
“We should’ve waited in the bus like I said. Waited until someone came through on the radio-”
“And if nobody answers? If those things come back? We’re dead.”
“Steve has the-”
“Dead, Dustin. We’re lucky we got out of there once, I don’t wanna take my chances again.”
“You protected us last time!” Dustin’s voice cracked a little at the end, but the desperation in his voice was enough to stop anyone from mentioning it.
Your eyebrow cocked, but your mouth settled into a thin line, part of you daring the boy to say the words while the other part of you wanted to shove his hat in his mouth, knowing exactly what he meant.
“Last time? What happened last time?” Max questioned, a frown still painted on her face from Dustin’s previous insult.
“Last time we were on the bus... That’s why you didn’t wanna stay there, right? Because of what you did to that man-”
“-Dustin,” Lucas warned, his large eyes darting between you and his friend,
“Maybe we should-”
Steve was cut off by the curly-haired boy who couldn’t seem to keep his mouth shut, “What you did-”
“What I did isn’t important right now,” you painfully swallowed the lump that had formed in your throat, “We need to get out of these woods and… Harrington? What the hell are you doing?”
“Dude, that was not cool,” you heard Lucas whisper to Dustin as the boy stuttered, trying to explain himself.
But you were too concerned with Steve, and the fact he was now staring off into the woods, clearly straining his ears in an attempt to hear… screeching?
The boys continued to bicker until Steve finally shouted for their attention, his flashlight pointing off into the woods. Everyone remained silent for a moment, and Steve’s gaze turned toward you as if asking for permission to continue.
Squeezing your eyes closed for a moment, you exhaled deeply and sent the boy a short nod before following after him.
“Guys… Why are you headed towards the sound? Hello? Shit…" Max grumbled, finally following after the two younger teens who had begun to rush behind you and Steve.
The noise led you out to a large opening upon a hill, looking over a large majority of the town.
A town full of people who were completely unaware of what had been released into Hawkins. Again.
Lifting his binoculars, Lucas looked around the open space, over the treetops of the surrounding area. Nothing in sight but… “It’s the lab. They were going back home.”
Tumblr media
Steve’s body felt warm as it hovered next to yours, and you felt your brow pull down slightly because, of course, he’d be able to keep himself warm on a cool evening like this. Huffing out in annoyance, you rubbed your arms over your denim jacket, trying to preserve as much of your body heat as possible.
The walk down through the rest of the woods had been easier than anticipated, most likely due to the fact you were heading downhill for a large majority of your travels. And now you knew that a Demogorgon wasn’t going to pop out from behind a bush, you felt a little safer. But still, your pace remained hurried, head-turning every few seconds to check and re-check that the kids were still following along behind.
At the end of the woods, you heard a familiar voice that you really weren’t expecting. Nancy and Jonathan stood not far from the latter’s car, calling out as you all emerged through the tree line. Your eyes darted down toward where Jonathan's grip was protectively clinging to Nancy's sleeve, before he quickly dropped it, realizing she was safe as they made their way toward your group,
“What are you doing here?”
“What are you doing here?”
“We’re looking for Mike and Will,” Nancy clarified, confusion etched on her face.
“They’re not in there, are they?” You asked, head nodding toward the large, grey building.
Jonathan’s brow furrowed slightly, realizing you knew something he didn't, “Why?"
The screeching reverberated around you, carried by the chilly November air, causing everyone to turn their attention to the building, a few windows lighting up from flashing lights.
Just like how the Christmas lights had flickered around Joyce's house last year before the whole building suddenly lit up.
“The power’s back,” Nancy said before you all made your way toward the entrance gate. Jonathan sat inside the control box, tapping a button in vain, but the gate remained closed. Bickering with Dustin for a moment, the older boy finally allowed Dustin to bash it, and the gate slowly creaked open.
Tumblr media
You stayed back with the kids and Steve, Nancy explaining that there simply wouldn’t be enough room for everyone in the car if they did manage to find their families. So instead, you ungracefully threw yourself down on the curb and ran a hand over your face.
You felt exhausted. Physically and emotionally drained and somehow, this night felt far from over.
“Are you okay?” Dustin settled on the grass next to you, his sneaker scuffing yours slightly.
Taking in a deep breath, you looked up toward the star-filled sky and nodded, “Yeah. I’m good, Henderson.”
The boy was silent for a moment, trying to pick his next words carefully, “What I said earlier, you know? About last year…”
Your jaw clenched as you turned your attention to the grass next to you, plucking a few strands.
Max and Lucas stood only a few feet away in the road, and you could tell that they — along with Steve, who stood even closer — were listening, only Lucas being aware of the impact of Dustin’s words.
“I’m sorry if it upset you. Brought up some bad memories. I just-”
“It’s fine, Henderson-”
“-I just think it was totally badass of you, you know?” The boy refused to let you cut him off, his eyes boring into the side of your face as you cautiously turned toward him, “That guy… El said he was bad. He would’ve killed us in that bus… Probably would’ve dragged El back here, and nobody would’ve been able to stop the Demogorgon last year.”
When you remained quiet, despite your slightly softened expression, Dustin continued, “Will would’ve never been found, Joyce would’ve probably been sent to Pennhurst, and we’d all be dead. I know it probably felt really shitty, but you killed him to save us.”
Your eyes returned to your shoes, eyebrows pulled together as you tried to breathe around the large lump that had clawed its way up your throat.
It wasn’t like you hadn’t had this exact conversation with Hopper already, the man explaining that what you had done was brave and heroic and a bunch of words that made your skin crawl.
You had killed a man, without any hesitation. And if Jim hadn’t caught that metal pipe, you’d have probably accidentally killed him too. The thought still choked you, even a year later.
“He’s right,” Lucas spoke quietly, “It was all he would talk about for a solid week. Will had come back from the dead, El had superpowers, but all he could talk about was how cool you were.”
“Yeah, alright. We get it, Lucas.” Dustin scoffed, standing up as his cheeks reddened, obvious even under the dark sky. The boy placed his cold hands into the pockets of his hoodie and looked at you one last time, “Like I said… Badass. So uh, on behalf of us all... Thanks.”
The silence between the group felt like it stretched on forever, and you could feel Steve’s gaze on you, even after he took Dustin’s seat on the curb. His shoulder bumped yours a few times on accident as he fiddled with the bottom of his jeans, pulling at a loose thread.
Thankfully the screech of tires stopped whatever conversation he was gearing up for, and caused you all to stand and rush toward the gate.
Jonathan’s Ford came barreling down from the lab, horn blaring as if he didn’t already have your attention, causing the five of you to rush out of the middle of the road, his car not stopping as it passed by.
Hopper, however, slammed on the brakes of his Chevvy before it could pass you, “Come on, get in.”
Tumblr media
Your group poured into the Byers’ home, eyes wide and suspicious as you all peered at the unusual drawings strung up along the walls, everyone feeling a little too uncomfortable to ask Joyce what had happened as she made her way into the back of her house alone.
Will was resting on the sofa, still unconscious as Jonathan pushed back the fallen hair from his face, softly reassuring the boy and apologizing for his absence, Nancy stood behind him with a gentle hand of her own placed on his shoulder, squeezing every so often.
When Steve turned away from the two, pinching the bottom of his nostrils, you sent him an apologetic glance, and despite knowing next to nothing about the argument that had occurred on Halloween, you knew he hadn’t expected this. The dying red roses in the bottom of his passenger side foot well told you as much.
Blinking a little too quickly for your liking, Steve bypassed you quickly and instead made his way into the kitchen and away from the scene unfolding in front of him. Instead of listening to any more of Hopper’s incessant — and frankly, pointless — yelling down the phone, you followed Steve, leaning against the counter as you poured a glass of water from the tap.
“You good, Harrington?”
The boy released a sigh, taking the glass from your offered hand before taking a few sips, his eyes refusing to meet yours as he looked at the paper lining the rooms, “Fine. I just, uh… I thought all this shit was over with.”
You couldn’t be certain if Steve meant the Upside Down situation or the Nancy and Jonathan situation. Either way, you didn’t dare to ask
“They didn’t believe you, did they?” Dustin questioned once Hopper had replaced the telephone.
“We’ll see,” he sighed, already knowing the answer, but trying to keep even remotely positive for the kids.
His bullshit, however, wasn’t sitting well with Mike, “We’ll see? We can’t just sit here while those things are loose!”
You’d caught Hopper’s attention before everyone made it into Joyce’s, both hanging back in his car as the rest made their way inside, a sight not unlike the one last year. You’d told him about El, and how you hadn’t been able to find her. You’d had no idea when she’d left, but you’d thought maybe she’d be with Mike. But if the boy had seen her, he wasn’t letting on, seemingly still in the dark about her well-being as he was at the beginning of the week.
After that, you’d rushed back inside and away from Hopper’s worried eyes. If you were surrounded by people, maybe he wouldn’t get the chance to question you.
“We stay here, and we wait for help,” Hopper grumbled, making his way down the hallway toward where Joyce had shut herself away. He’d mentioned on the drive back that Bob had sacrificed himself to make sure they all got out alive. He nearly made it and then… Then those monsters tore him apart.
Releasing a deep sigh, you rubbed your hand over your face before watching the four children at the table. You would be sitting ducks if you remained here, let alone the rest of the town who had no idea what was out there.
You jolted slightly when you felt a warm palm over your other hand, gripping to the counter with such intensity that your knuckles were beginning to ache.
In Steve’s other hand, he held out the same glass of water to you, now only a quarter full, “You’re shaking.”
Taking the drink, you slipped your other hand from under his own and placed it against the cold glass. Despite the chilly November breeze, the air in this house felt stale.
“I just… I feel so useless, you know?” Steve’s eyes remained on you, sad and all too soft, waiting as you continued, “They’re kids. They shouldn’t be sitting here waiting to be… hunted. Because let's face it, the same government that caused this isn’t about to break down the front door and help us.”
Steve didn’t know what to say, feeling just as helpless as you. So instead he remained leaning against the kitchen counter, staring out the window as Mike began to tell them about Bob, and the fact that he alone had started the AV club and that they couldn’t let the man’s death be in vain.
“I mean, when it was just Dart, maybe…”
“But there’s an army now.” Lucas sighed in defeat.
“His army,” something seemed to click in Mike’s head, “Maybe if we stop him, we can stop his army, too.”
The boys looked around at each other, clearly catching onto whatever Mike was babbling on about much quicker than you, Steve, or Max.
“Who’s army?” You dared to question. Mike didn’t respond, instead rushing toward the table where more pictures were set and showing you one of some kind of… spider monster.
“The shadow monster,” Dustin began, only to be cut off by Mike.
“It got Will that day on the field. The doctor said it was like a virus, it infected him.”
“And so this virus, it’s connecting him to the tunnels?”
“To the tunnels, monsters, the Upside Down, everything.”
“Whoa, slow down… Slow down.” Steve sighed, eyes darting between the paper and you, glad he wasn’t the only one in the group to be completely oblivious to whatever the kids were discussing.
“Okay, so, the shadow monster’s inside everything. And If the vines feel something like pain, then so does Will.”
“And so does Dart.”
“Yeah. Like what Mr. Clarke taught us. The hive mind.”
“Hive mind?”
“A collective consciousness? Like... Bees?” You questioned, one eyebrow cocked in almost disbelief. Snatching the drawing from Steve’s hands, you inspected the drawing, and what you assumed they thought was the brain.
“...Like the mind flayer,” Dustin announced, causing the other boys to look at him with shock.
Max, yourself, and Steve were once again on the outside of Nerdville looking in, “The what?”
Dustin rushed into Will’s room, grabbing a large book from his desk without a second thought and calling everyone else to the kitchen before slamming it onto the table, already opened to the right page, “The mind flayer.”
“What the hell is that?” Hopper questioned, brows pulled down, clearly unconvinced.
“It’s a monster from an unknown dimension. It’s so ancient that it doesn’t even know its true home. Okay, it enslaves races of other dimensions by taking over their brains using its highly-developed psionic powers.”
“Oh my god, none of this is real,” Jim sighed, “This is a kids’ game.”
“No, it’s a manual. And it’s not for kids. And unless you know something that we don’t, this is the best metaphor-”
“Analogy,” Lucas interrupted almost accidentally.
“Analogy? That’s what you’re worried about? Fine. An analogy for understanding whatever the hell this is.”
“Okay, so this mind flamer thing-”
“Flayer. Mind flayer…”
Nancy’s jaw ticked in annoyance before she continued, “What does it want?”
“To conquer us, basically. It believes it’s the master race.”
“Like the Germans?” Steve stammered, finally hoping he understood anything going on, only to be met with confusion around the table.
“Oh my god,” you mumbled under your breath, “We’re in the same history class, you are not this dense.”
Steve’s mouth opened and closed a few times, brows pulled down low as he scoffed at you.
“Uh, the Nazis?” Dustin sighed, watching as Steve stuttered once more.
“Uh, yeah, yeah, yeah… The Nazis.”
As Dustin continued, your eyes shot across to Hopper who was rubbing at his eyes in annoyance, and you could count down the minutes until he lost it.
“We are talking about the destruction of our world as we know it.”
“That’s great. That’s really great. Jesus…”
“Okay, so if this thing is like a brain that’s controlling everything, then if we kill it-”
“We kill everything it controls.”
“We win.”
“Theoretically.”
“Great, so how do you kill this thing? Shoot it with fireballs or something?” Hopper asked, grabbing the book from Nancy, annoyance still etched on his face.
“No, no… No fireballs,” Dustin’s slight amusement vanished the second the Chief turned his disdained glare to him, “Uh, you summon an undead army, uh, because… Because zombies, you know, they don’t have brains, and the mind- the mind flayer it… it likes brains. It’s just a game…”
“What the hell are we doing here?” Jim questioned, more to himself than anyone else, slamming the book back onto the table. There it was.
“I thought we were waiting for your military backup.”
“We are!”
“Even if they come, how are they going to stop this? You can’t just shoot this with guns.”
Rubbing at your temples, you tried to drown out their arguing as thoughts seemed to whoosh past you. Something the boys had said had rubbed you the wrong way, you just couldn’t put your finger on it.
“-And we know it’s only a matter of time before those tunnels reach this town.”
“They’re right,” a croaky voice interrupted them. Joyce made her way toward the table, eyes red from crying, “We have to kill it. I want to kill it.”
And a plan was set into place.
Tumblr media
You helped Hopper clear out the shed in the Byers’ backyard, tables and old fans thrown carelessly on the floor as you quickened your pace, untrusting of the dark night.
“Do you really think this is going to work?”
Sighing, Jim threw the last box to the floor as everyone else passed you, nail guns in hand, in an attempt to make the small shed look unrecognizable, “I don’t know what I believe anymore, kid.”
“We’re gonna be able to save him, right?”
Hopper stood back up to his full height before turning toward you and placing his hands on his hips, “We’re gonna do everything we can. Now hurry up and start-”
“I’m sorry,” you interrupted, unable to hold the words down, despite how acidic they tasted on your tongue. You weren’t used to apologizing, normally any arguments with your mother were over as soon as the morning came and she sobered up a little. And despite your vicious tongue, you often refrained from apologizing to anyone else, whether or not you wanted to. 'Sorry' had never solved anything for you before.
Hopper’s features softened slightly before he released a long sigh, “You don’t need to-”
“About everything. I’m sorry, for everything.” You reaffirmed, hoping he understood.
You were sorry that El had left, and you hadn’t been able to find her. You were sorry that you had broken the frame that held the only picture of his daughter that he dared to have on display. You were sorry he had to go through this again.
You quickly turned, marching out of one awkward conversation, and right into another.
Steve nailed the top corner of a tarmac sheet to the wall as Nancy peeled off some tape. You knew it was only them in the shed, but your mind had been distracted from the seemingly endless drama between the two. Before you could make a silent exit, Nancy turned, wide, blue eyes on you,
“Oh, hey.”
“I didn’t mean to come in here I just… Uh, I didn’t wanna be out there anymore.”
The girl sent you a shy smile, shaking her head as she continued to rip off pieces of tape. Steve, however, held out the nail gun in your direction, “Promise you won’t staple me to the wall if I let you have this?”
Huffing out a barely concealed laugh, you carefully took the staple gun out of his hand and shrugged, “No promises, Harrington.”
Once the rest of the gang had finished their jobs, collecting newspapers and flattened cardboard that would help to conceal the small shack, you all made your way back into the house as Jonathan carried Will into the shed.
Placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, you squeezed reassuringly before taking your exit, faces of the others peering out from the kitchen window.
As time ticked by, Steve made his way toward the lounge, practicing his baseball swing, feeling almost certain that he’d need to use it again tonight as the rest of the kids, bar Mike were scattered around the house.
You stood in the kitchen with Nancy, the girl staring blankly at the wall as you slowly washed up the dishes in Joyce’s sink, trying to make yourself feel a little less unhelpful.
“Jonathan and I… We, uh… We planned on meeting with Barb’s parents to tell them the truth.”
A plate slipped out of your grip, landing back in the soapy warm water and splashing your shirt. Looking over your shoulder, you didn’t manage to get out a word before Nancy cut you off,
“We didn’t… But, we did do something else. We met with someone else. That’s where we were this weekend. Why we ditched school.”
You’d heard the rumors that the two had been seen rushing away from school Thursday afternoon and hadn’t shown back up Friday morning. Billy and Tommy had been cackling about it whenever Steve had passed them in the hallways, causing the rest of the school to mumble and giggle about it, too.
But you knew how rumors worked, especially in high school, and decided to keep your nose firmly out of their business. But this? Well, this was your business…
“Please tell me you didn’t do anything stupid,”
“We met with the detective that Mrs. Holland told us about-” Dropping your head forward, you let out an exasperated sigh, “It’s fine he… He isn’t what we thought he’d be like. We told him… Everything. Had proof, too. But he made a very good point-”
“At keeping your mouth shut?”
“At telling the right story. You were right… The truth wouldn’t do anything for Barb, or her parents. It would just put us all at risk. But if we tell some of the story, the important parts… Then we can make sure they don’t get away with what happened to her.”
Squeezing your eyes shut briefly, you placed the clean plate onto the side and dried your hands before finally turning to the girl, “Okay. So they go down for… something?”
“Murray’s taking care of that. But, yes… They won’t get away with what they did, even if it’s only a half-truth.”
Your mouth opened but quickly shut as the lights above began to flicker, a sure sign that something was here.
Turning back around, you peered out of the kitchen window, unable to see anything in the shed. Your heart was pounding like a drum, pushing against your rib cage in what felt like an escape attempt. A hand pressed against the middle of your back, just firm enough to notice it was there, as two dark eyes peered down at you.
The nailed bat in his hand was a strong reminder of what had happened here almost a year ago, and somehow, shit hit the fan whenever you stepped foot in the Byers home.
But Steve was here, again. And if need be, he would protect you. Again.
Tumblr media
Once the flicker had settled, you remained at the kitchen counter, hands folded over your chest as you stared off into space with Steve standing nearby like some kind of guard dog when Hopper pushed through the back door, causing everyone to jump slightly, Joyce and the boys following close on his heel.
“I think he’s talking, just not with words.” Jim began writing something down on an old envelope, lines and dashes and-
“Morse code?” You asked, your brows pinched together as you peered over Max’s shoulder.
“Here.”
“Will’s still in there. He’s talking to us.”
You sat around in a group at the table listening to Hopper over the walkie-talkie, tapping out the morse code as you all tried to decipher it,
“Dash, dot, dash dot.”
“C,” you sighed, not needing to look at the paper that came with the radios, watching as Nancy waited for the kids to double-check, a quick nod before writing down the letter.
“Where the hell did you learn Morse code?” Lucas questioned, not meaning to sound so rude.
“Hopper made me learn it a while back. He has some stupid code to get into his cabin.”
When the group sent you a confused glance, you simply shrugged, “He lets me stay there when I need to get away from my Mom. That was an L, by the way.”
Nancy quickly wrote down the letter, and the rest of the group seemed to let your previous comment slide, now much more focused on the task at hand.
C L O S E G A T E
There was another gate. And El was the only one who could close it.
The sudden, blaring ring from the house phone caused you all to leap from your positions, Dustin lifting the receiver only to place it back down. When the phone rang a second time, Nancy ripped it right from the wall, ensuring it wouldn’t happen again.
“It’s just a phone. It could be anywhere, right?” Steve questioned.
But in the silence that surrounded you all, you heard it.
The screeching in the distance that haunted your dreams, and now your reality.
They knew where you were, and they were coming.
Tumblr media
Jonathan rushed back into the house, a once again unconscious Will in his arms as he laid him on the bed in his room as if that could keep him safe from the monsters that would be barrelling through his front door any minute now.
“Can you use this?” Hopper asked, holding out a gun toward Jonathan as he returned. Looking as if the Chief had just spoken an old, ancient language Jonathan simply shook his head. Thankfully, Nancy stepped in, taking the gun. If anyone had a chance at hitting those things, it definitely wasn’t Jonathan.
Your hands gripped the ax that Joyce had stowed away next to the bookshelf, your grip clammy but tight as you held it up high, ready to swing it, throw it, or… do something. Anything.
Standing between Hopper and Steve, you waited with bated breath for the monsters to get closer, hoping to God that at the very least, you would fill the monsters up before they had time to start munching away on the kids.
The screeching grew louder and louder, turning into groaning, a yelping almost, and then… it stopped.
You all swiveled around the room, unable to tell which direction they’d be coming from when suddenly, one flew through the front room window, smashing the glass and lying, unnervingly still on the floor.
A collective gasp fell from the group's mouth as the kids were pulled back by Joyce, Steve shoving you behind where he stood next to Hopper, the two watching silently, almost expecting the monster to stand up, shake it off, and then attack them.
But it didn’t.
Something, or someone, had killed it.
“Holy shit,”
“Is it dead?” Max asked as Hopper nudged its head with his boot.
The door creaked slightly, a force from the other side began to turn the locks, and before you knew it, you had shoved Hopper’s gun downward, pleading for him to not shoot.
And there, with blood running down from her nostril, stood Eleven.
Her name had barely fallen from your lips when she propelled herself forward, meeting you halfway across the room as you wrapped your arms around each other, a soft sob falling from her.

Read the teaser below!
Everyone this side of the west has heard about the wild mustangs that roam the fields and run free where the mountains meet the moon in the early hours of the night, but not many have ever caught wind of one, let alone tame one.
Those who have are often loners. Tumbleweeds with no path or seed to weigh them down. Empty as a husk but filled with just as much emotion as their wounds are with dirt.
Eddie’s always believed the west was meant to be his home. Some people grow up and move off to bigger towns up north or out east. Not him. Not ever. That doesn’t mean he lived by the book and the word, though. He follows his own rules. The only person he ever had any inkling of obeying was lost a few years back. He lives for him now, the legend that Wayne Munson was (and still is) to him.
See, the lifestyle Eddie lives isn’t exactly one that can be learned without a little…extended guidance, so to speak. Thank you, Uncle Wayne, for all that he knows. Truly. No seriously, Eddie is incredibly grateful to Wayne for teaching him how to live without fear, and how to be sneaky. For making him learn to be tougher than the railroad nails and quicker than the wind itself. For teaching him how to get by. For loving him. He’ll cry if he dwells on it any longer.
Eddie sits atop a log at his campsite, watching the fire blow and fiddling with his harmonica as he listens to the coyotes cry to the moon and yip at all the creatures who have yet to turn in for the night. Watches as the orange flames lick at the top of his roasting spit (read: stick wrapped in wet cloth) as the night drags. Listens to the foxes laugh and the vultures circle in the distance. There’s a buffalo herd not seven hundred and some feet from him. He thinks about them, how they travel with everything they’ll ever need and yet they carry nothing but the shaggy mess of hair on their backs. To the right of the fire, a pot of canned food sits, cooling quicker by the second, even in the muggy desert night air. The tent behind him has long since been abandoned for the night, and he debated taking it down before morning and riding out. Leaves it because he knows he’ll crash at some point. There’s a bottle of jack at his feet, a canteen to his left, and a loaded Apache revolver on his hip. His horse grazes at the stray grass next to him, silently leaving Eddie to his own devices.
The midnight hours are approaching, blanketing the red dirt with a sinfully empty dark blue aside from the stars, and the mountains in the distance meet the horizon in a kiss of melded oranges and blacks, just from what Eddie can see with his piss-poor little fire. His hat hangs over his eyes, legs crossed in front of the fire, boots barely avoiding the lick of the bright orange flames. His flannel unbuttoned and buckle undone to wind down for the night. A desert coyote cries as Eddie looks up at the stars, and he swigs some of his jack, chasing it with water and standing to retreat to his tent.
To their knowledge, Edward and Wayne Munson are the only men this side of the west to ever successfully catch and tame two Mustang stallions.
To his knowledge, Edward Munson is the only person who knows where Wayne hid the missing money from some sundowner out a ways on the tracks.
And to his knowledge, he’s the last man standing in a long line of untouchable legends among the west.

Frank drove off as soon as you got in the car.
It was silent ride.
You were trying to hide your crying
It was just too much with everything going on
Between the freshly beaten bullies and now adults bullying you
It wasn't nessacary that it was the words.
Its the fact that you can't do anything about it
"You okay kid?"
"Uh...I think I just lost my only friends..." she smiled weakly, "And I think Im really fucked because of it..."
He looked over at her as she sniffled, wipping stray tears, "Hey. Hey. They are you're friends. Those are the friends you want. Whats his name? Steve? Steve Harrington? With the three added inches because of his hair?"
Y/n chuckled and nodded still crying, "He's a friend. He's someone that's got your back. And what he did? What he did back there while you were in the bathroom? He did what he was suppose too. He stood up for you. Alright?"
Y/n nodded, a heavy plate being set in her lap as she sniffled looking down, "You stole the pie back?"
"You bet damn right I stole the pie back." Frank spoke causing Y/n to laugh, "that's my damn pie dish alright?"
Y/n couldn't stop laughing.
"Probally only fuckin thing that had flavor too." Frank contuined pulling two forks out his pocket.
"You stole there silverware!?" Y/n laughed.
"Come on. They should be glad I didn't use it!" Frank spoke his voice raising the warmth of laughter as it filled his chest.
"Midani's gonna come for you because you stole silverware watch!" Y/n laughed.
"Let her try!" He laughed Y/n cutting into the pie and taking a big bite.
"Mhm." Y/n hummed, "This is good."
Y/n took another bite, "Like really damn good! Mhm! I feel bad the kids didn't get any!"
"Come on give me a bite."
Frank for sure did know how to cheer you up
Even if you'd be in a sugar induced coma after comfort eating most of the pie.
He doesn't care. He can always make another fucking pie. He'll make you 20 as long as your happy.
You both go home and change into actual comfortable clothing and watch a movie
You've had a long day so you'd fall asleep to some crappy western pretty damn quick
He'd pick you up and put you in bed, kissing your temple before leaving you to sleep.
A few hours pass by before theres knocking on the window .
It makes your stir at first but soon it wakes you up and you get up.
"Hargrove?" Y/n asked head sticking out the window,"what time is it?"
"You okay?" He asked, Y/n nodded.
"Y...yeah...just been stressful recently." Y/n told leaning on the window seal, "Just my breaking point I guess."
Billy nodded, looking up at her slightly, "c...can you help me..."
It meek and soft, scared of being hurt.
Y/n looked at him concered,"who the fuck am I kidding I shouldn't...fuck."
Y/n reached for the flashlight beside her bed and turned it on directing it towards Billy.
"Holy Shit!" Y/n cursed, Billy's eyebrow split along with his lip and a bloody nose.
"Seems like everything that happened at dinners my fault..." he admitted, "I. Fuck. I kept lookin off. Ya know?"
"Come on." Y/n spoke holding her hand out as he grabbed it, Y/n helping him in and letting him sit on the bed while she turned the big light on, and went under her bed to grab first aid.
"I kept spacin out..." he told her she sitting next to him, "and I knew I should. But I kept doin it. I didn't mean to be starin at Wheeler. I."
"Hey. No need to explain it to me." Y/n smiled small, "Dont feel forced alright?"
Billy nodded, "i got mad." He explained.
"I got mad. I didnt say anything. I got mad because It should of been me. I should've stood up for you. Not Harrington." Billy started, "I should of stoped it. I knew it. I knew it was happening and I sat there. And I listened."
Y/n frowned, as Billy's eyes glazed over: "I. I know how it is. You. You don't."
"I know-"
"That's it!" Billy spoke, "You don't know. And I don't want you to know. I. You're my. Fuck...I."
"Billy." Y/n called softly, finger on his chin guiding it in her direction for her to clean it, putting a butterfly bandage near the corner of his upper lip.
"You're my...You're my city bird..." He finally croaked out, tears that filled his eyes fell from baby blues down his face.
"Hey...hey..." Y/n coaxed calmly, "I'm not goin anywhere. Im not."
She wipped a tear away, "and you're the only one that gets to call me the stupid as shit nickname."
He stiffled a laugh as Y/n smiled, "That nicknames so fuckin stupid ya know that?" She contuined.
"Sound like a damn piegon."
He chuckled as Y/n contuined to clean his face, the blood had stopped but she still had to address the eyebrow split.
"Damn. Hargrove were you always this pretty?" Y/n teased he rolling his eyes in response.
"Mad that I look better beat up than you?"
There he was. Billy Hargrove, back in action with his eye rolls and playful tone. Y/n knew part of it was an act a spacegoat: but she knew there was a part few got to see.
She finsihed cleaning his face and helping him disinfect everything. Kissing his head softly she smiled against his skin. Pulling away just enough for him to raise his gaze.
His nose grazing against her's just slightly as eyelids hung low. Billy's hand lifting up to hold the side of Y/n's neck as he leaned forward the beginning edge of there brow bones resting against one another with closed eyes. He was soft with his touch as he pushed forward, his lips pushing against hers, her lips tasted like apple pie.
But it didnt last long, they both mutually pulling away. That...didn't feel right...to neither of you.
Why?
"Did you?" Y/n asked quietly, and Billy shook his head.
"You?" Billy questioned softly, as Y/n shook her head no.
"Fuck...I can't loose you..." Billy spoke, "I. I can't."
"Im still here. I told you I wasnt going anywhere."
And thats when you guys became Plantonic soul mates
The only reason Billy kissed you was because well he's never had emotions this strong
He could tell you: I love you but kissing you. It was wrong. The kissing? Oh yeah that was great. It was the "you" part
Which made no sense to him because for a straight fact he knew he loved you.
So he's like: b i t c h what are these feelings
Safety and Security Billy, safety and security
You both were surpised you talked about it afterward, still the pinky promise dumbasses you both are
He still likes the head kissing though, or the kiss cheek.
Its the romance factor that just doesn't work.
You guys have a little pinky promise hand shake now,
Billy wont admit it but you're everything to him, and he knows he's everything to you: after all you said it too him
Yet unfortunately he's gotta leave, and you let him back out the window
"Sleep Tight City Bird." Billy spoke looking back up at her.
"Sleep Tight Hargrove." Y/n spoke holding out her pinky as he stiffled a smile, raising and interlocking pinkies with her.
And you watched him walk off into the darkness of the woods, most likely back to the main road.
You cleaned up and went to bed afterward.
You need the sleep: You're just exhausted from everything
Luckily no one woke you up for school-
Wait, No one woke you up for school?
She looked at the alarm clock beside her, school started thirty minutes ago, "SHIT!" She cursed now fully awake and running around, luckily she had washed all that makeup off the day before.
Hopping on one foot as she tried tying her shoe, she fell against the door, its opening, and her body followed, ending on the floor.
"The hell," Frank spoke.
"School! I'm late!" Y/n argued standing up, but there sat Steve Harrington, and the Wheeler siblings, with cups of hot coffee, and a cup of hot chocolate for mike.
"Well, morin to you too." Steve spoke drinking from his mug, "And happy fall break."
Oh...
"fall break!?" Y/n asked looking at the calendar, fall break was indeed in full swing.
you had been relieved as Frank pulled a chair for you to sit down while he was making breakfast.
He also stuck a cup of coffee in front of you
They had come to make sure you were alright, Steve especially, and he apologized to his mom like five times
"I'm really sorry."
"No Don't be." Y/n spoke sipping her coffee, "It's not your fault."
"And your sure your okay?" Nancy asked, "It's not every day an ordinary person takes a mental beating like that so easy."
Y/n nodded, "I...yeah, I got it."
"of course she's okay!" Mike argued, "She's taken bigger beatings from villains!"
So Mike thought you were a hero, just in hiding, and laid it all out for you: who and how you became an undercover superhero he had a very original origin story planned for you
It made you feel good, a kid being a kid: a happy kid
"but it's obvious you have a rival in the superhero world, is it Iron Man!? Captain America! I bet it's Black Panther."
Y/n laughed, "No. I haven't seen the King of Wakanda in new york for some time."
"You know Black Panther?!" Mike asked, Y/n half nodding.
"Brief visit," Y/n spoke.
"She knows Black Panther," Mike told his sister with a stupidly happy smile on his face.
"I know Mike, I can hear her."
Y/n smiled and took a drink of coffee, a brief visit meant getting thrown off a cliff by him.
Frank made breakfast for you all, waffles and everything
He likes your friends: he has a certain respect for Steve too
especially after that dinner
"You should come trick or treating with us!" Mike suggested.
"Me?" Y/n asked digging into her eggs.
Mike nodded, "yeah! Your super cool!"
Y/n smiled and looked at Frank who shrugged, whatever she wanted.
"Yeah. That sounds like fun." Y/n smiled, "I'd love to."
"Sweet! The guys would love you."
You guys spend your morning talking: Frank truly getting to know your friends, they all thought he was pretty cool too: especially with being in the service in the past and all
Plans for the break are thrown back and forth.
"So that new Horror movie is coming out." Steve spoke, "The 29th."
"Really? Didn't think you had a movie theater in Hawkins."
"funny."
"I know." Y/n smiled, "You guys wanna go see it?"
"You're busy the 29th," Frank spoke.
"I am?" Y/n asked.
"I'd hope you'd be busy with Murdock and them comin' out"
"Matts coming!?" Y/n asked in disbelief, "Seriously!? Like really!? You're not shitting me!?"
"I can tell them all not to come-"
"NO! NO!" Y/n spoke, "Guys you'll love Matt! He's a really good lawyer..."
And you went on and on saying they all had to have dinner while he was down,
AHH, Matt Murdock's coming! You're so happy, as said before: while Frank was in prison he had become somewhat of a fatherish figure to you, and you truly did care about him, and he really did care about you
Sure he had his own problems, and had no idea how to help you, and didn't shover his religion down your throat, but did take you to his church one time
Explained that she had to find a place like his church: a thinking place, wherever or whatever this place was: either it be a parking lot or an old park, you need a place to be grounded, where the weight just drops off the shoulders
just thinking about there talks made things better sometimes
so you were excited
Steve? Steve was not
Okay so this guy was older: but, you talk about him like he was a superhero
Oh he has no idea
But they still want to hang out with you during break
And Frank says he's fine with you being out as late as you want as long as you call him a few times, letting him know what was going on
Yet after a long breakfast nancy had casually looked at her watch
"Crap! I said I'd have Mike back by 10 am." Nancy spoke, "Hurry up Mike!"
"why what time is it?" steve asked.
"11:30!"
"Crap!" Steve spoke apparently they both had things to do quickly eating his plate of food, "I have to go! I'm gonna be dead!"
Steve got up quickly followed by Nancy and Mike.
"Mr.Castligone! Thank you for breakfast! Y/n! I'll call you later1 We'll do something on a day you're not busy! Breakfast was great! Okay! Bye!"
it was comical to you and Frank, watching them eat as quickly as they could and rush out like you had run out thinking you were late for school
You both just laughed, and you did the dishes, after all, they were your friends.
it was a peaceful day, you and he had spent his off day together, taking a nice walk through the woods by the water, skipping stones on the water, and lounged around the house
That's when you got a phone call, it hadn't been Steve, it was too quick for that despite the hours he was gone already
"Hello?" Y/n asked.
"Ah! Y/N of Midgard! Daughter of the Punished!"
"Thor?" Y/n asked quietly looking back but Frank was busy doin something in his room.
"Yes! It is I!"
"I am here as well!" Loki shouted annoyed from the back.
"Me too!" Korg cheered
"How did you get this number?" Y/n protested, "And Hi Korg,"
"No need to ask such questions! We are friends! Like, brother and sister! What is in your mind is in mine!" Thor cheered, "See I will tell you now what you are thinking! Guns! Weapons! Blood oh so much blood! And pure destructive victory! Which is why I wonder why are you in this place they call Hawkins?"
Y/n froze, what?
"Thor, just. Why are you here?" Y/n asked trying to keep her cool.
"To celebrate the falling of leaves!" He spoke, the smile heard in his voice.
"Did Jane break up with you again?"
"What!?" He laughed, "Pfft! No! Yes. She did. So I figured we could drown ourselves in such over-sugared delights; like old times, and you could show me around this very much lonely empire of yours. Korg would also like to do some drawing with you."
"Just. Where are you?" Y/n asked.
"Uh."
"give me the damned thing!" Loki ordered, snatching the pay phone, "I swear Y/n if you do not come and get us I will be invading New York again!"
"Okay One, rude." Y/n protested, "Where are you?"
"In front of..whatever this place is, looks like a prison."
"Does it say Hawkins High?"
"Yes! It does!"
"Just, give me 20 minutes."
"You have five."
"Fifteen."
"Fine."
You were never so quick in your life: you told Frank you were borrowing the Truck and said you loved him and call him later because you be out late and left
Left to go pick up who?
Billy Fucking Hargrove
OUT OF ALL PEOPLE
You knocked on his door so quick, and loudly too
"Max! Get the door!"
"Im going!"
She was surpised to see you there: and said Hi real quick before walking through following the blasting music.
"HARGROVE!"
"Jesus! What the Hell!" He argued looking back.
"How'd you like to help me baby sit Thor and Friends!?"
"What?" He asked, turning off his music confused as fuck, "Excuse me?!"
"You're going to see Thor?" Max asked Y/n turning around.
"Yeah. Yeah." Y/n answered nonchalantly hoping Billy would agree, "Well?!"
"Yeah! Yeah Im comin!" He argued grabbing his jacket as he quickly followed Y/n.
"I wanna come!"
"No!" Billy argured.
"Yeah! Fine whatever!" Y/n asked, "I don't have time to argue or Lokis gonna blow up New York again!"
"Excuse me!?"
"Get in the fucking truck now!"
Max thought Billy was an insnae driver? When your in a rush? Damn. You're crazy.
Billy's bracing himself your acting so crazy
You're sweating bullets and to hyperfixated on the road to answer any questions
You're racked with anxiety and pull into the hawkins high parking lot where the group waits.
"Hi Y/n!" Korg waves happily, Y/n getting out the truck leaving the two in the front seat completely speechless.
"Ah Y/n!" Thor cheered, "It's an honor to make- ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!"
Y/n grabs Thor by the ear and drags him along, Loki laughing just to be given the the same treatment.
"Ow! Okay! Okay!"
They're dragged to the car and ordered to get in. Korg following patiently. Max and Billy staring in complete shock as the back of the truck is filled with aliens.
"Must you be so rude?" Loki spoke in his defense. Y/n getting in the truck.
"Max, Billy." Y/n spoke, "these are the asshole brothers, and this is Korg."
"Hi!" Korg spoke with a smile, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Uh..Hi." Max spoke with a small wave,"same here..."
"Y/n." Billy started, "what. the FUCK."
"What?! You're the only one that knows!" Y/n defended, "Im fucking loosing my head!"
"Yeah you're the Punisher's daughter! Thats one fuckin thing! These are fuckin Aliens!" Billy argued.
"You're dads the Punisher?!" Max asked.
Oh god. Things just can never chill, she feel like she's going to have a stroke.
And now everyones arguing.
"EVERYONE BE FUCKIN QUIET!" y/n shouts, it's silent.
"If I may intruppted-"
"Loki." Y/n spoke looking back, "Shut the fuck up please."
"Well you did say please."
It grows quiet as you pull out of the parking lot.
And it's just silent the whole time going down that long road.
"Um. Y/n." Korg spoke up sweetly, "Can we get ice cream. Please? I've always wanted to try it!"
You take them to get icecream, you saying everyone gets Vanilla because your not dealing with orders
Turns our Korg enjoys ice-cream
Are they suppose to ask you to do something? Or just let you keep driving to calm your mind?
But your going over the speed limit and a cop stops you
"I was hopin this didn't Involve you Hargrove." The cheif speaks but with the back windows roll down he spots the group of well...Aliens.
"Cheif?" Y/n asked gesturing for a name.
"Hopper..." he responded still awe struck by seeing who he's seeing.
"Cheif Hopper. If. You'd please. Just. Ticket." Y/n pleaded, "please."
"Uh...yeah....go ahead...with a. Warning."
"Thank you sir. You like donuts? I like donuts. I'll bring you down to the station later. Thanks."
You drove off after that taking a deep breathe in today...was gonna be real long
What were you suppose to do? Take them Downtown to spend the day?
That didn't seem like a bad idea.
Then again Korg. And as big of a sweet heart Korg was. He stood out
But people could feel safe if Thor labeled him as a side kick
Maybe you'd just dress him up and just say he was real tall
Or. Maybe you just could walk around him: its not like Hawkins had thousands of Cameras.
And Loki could just wipe tapes if nessacary
Then again people seeemed so shocked they dont think they'd be able to move to even get a camera or call anybody
Okay plan dress Korg up hoodie and swear pants and pray just say he's tall or under Thor watch
Yeah Yeah that sounded good.
Sounded good.
So with a calm mind you tell everyone they can ask there questions one at a time.
And they do tread waters very carefully
And then you tell them your plan. Which is stupid because no one has chlothes that are gonna fit Korg
Fuck it Superheros on Vacation thats the new plan
Just when you thought Hawkins was sane: you were oh so wrong.

High Noon
part 1 Part 2 of Steve tries to get the Party to watch Westerns with him...
Years of waking up at stupid o’clock for swim practice left Steve a permanent early riser. After the movie (Short Circuit- which had just come out and everyone was dying to watch, he probably shouldn’t have tried to compete with that) and playing games until past midnight the rest of the group was still passed out in the living room. The older kids, seeming to sense at least a little bit that Steve’s feelings were hurt, steered them into board games instead of D&D for once and he had actually enjoyed himself.
Now it was almost 6 in the morning and he was wide awake, Robin snoring quietly beside him, grey light streaming through his window. A sort of sad feeling curled up somewhere between his stomach and his ribs and Steve had the urge to do something he hadn’t done since he was a little kid. He padded down to the living room, navigating around sleeping bodies in his socked feet and took the tape of High Noon upstairs with him. Down the hall, into his parents’ bedroom.
There was a big screen tv in here too, and a vcr although they almost never used it. When Steve was young and they would stay out late he used to curl up on their bed and fall asleep with the tv on. The babysitters always liked to use the downstairs television after his bedtime but Steve had a hard time falling asleep in his own room without at least one of his parents home. They didn’t get mad when they came home and found him asleep, as long as he used the throw blanket and didn’t mess up the duvet, his mother would kiss the top of his head and his father would carry him back to his own room. It was the only way his father ever tucked him in.
The room now had the church-like silence of someplace that is more for remembering than for living in, despite being meticulously cleaned once every other week. Steve slid the video in and curled up in his old spot in the middle of the king size bed. As the credits played, the door to his parents room pushed open and he heard footsteps. Eleven poked her head around the door and gazed at him.
“Hey, did I wake you?”
She shook her head no. “Can I stay? she asked.
“You want to watch with me? It’s one of the boring ones from last night.”
“I don’t care. It will be less boring than sitting down stairs awake all alone.”
“Ok.” They watch together in companionable silence for a bit. El makes admiring noises at how pretty Grace Kelly and Katy Jurado are, how they tell the men around them that they’ve made their own decisions about their own lives. After a while Steve senses a kind of restlessness in her. Figures, he thinks, she’s probably bored.
“Can I ask questions?” El interrupts his thoughts. That is not what he was expecting.
“Sure, shoot.”
“You won’t mind? Sometimes I have a lot of questions and it makes my friends not have fun watching the movie with me.”
“I don’t mind,” and he doesn’t.
She asks questions but mostly she just reacts to the movie. Every time somebody else turns Gary Cooper away and refuses to stand beside him against the oncoming villain she tenses. When Grace Kelly professes her belief in peace and her Quaker religion but decides to stand and fight anyway she smiles. Two thirds of the way through the movie, with the tension at its highest she asks him to pause it.
“Mike doesn’t like to tell the endings. That’s called spoilers because it spoils the movie, so you don’t have to tell the ending but can you just say if it’s happy or sad?”
Her little face is so serious it kind of melts his heart. “It’s happy.” They’re almost at the end when the sounds of life can be heard from downstairs. There’s voices in the hall, looking for Steve and Eleven and then Dustin, Mike, Will, Max and Lucas all pour into his parents room.
“Whoa! You have another tv up here, that’s amazing!” says Dustin. They’re all looking around like they’ve just discovered an ancient pyramid. “How come you never let us in here before?”
“We can watch two movies at once!” says Lucas.
“No,” Steve says, “You can’t. I can, because it’s my house. Everybody out now.” Damn, he’ll probably have to start locking his parents’ door again. It’s almost as bad as when he used to have his old high school keggers, except he’s liable to find random groups of teens in corners painting miniatures instead of doing body shots. “Downstairs now, skeddadle.” The commotion has happily robbed Robin and Eddie of their continued sleep and Steve foists breakfast duties onto them.
As he’s leaving Mike stops and stares at the paused movie. “Are you watching Steve’s movie?”
“Yes,” says Eleven, “It is very good. Please can we finish it before breakfast Steve?”
“Eleven can stay, everybody else go help with breakfast and start putting my couches back together.” They fuss but file out, all except Mike.
“Well if El’s staying can’t I stay too?”
This kid. This has to be his most exasperating kid. “There’s like, fifteen minutes left.” Steve sighs, “Fine, you can stay but you can’t talk- Eleven can talk,” he clarifies, “You, Wheeler- silence. Got it?”
Mike gives him a combination nod and eye roll but he flops at the foot of the bed while they finish the movie and doesn’t make any snarky remarks.
Afterwards, Eleven tells him that it was a very good movie. Steve kind of feels like crying again but it doesn’t feel bad this time. “We could watch the other one sometime, maybe?” Eleven asks. Mike is muttering something that Steve can’t quite hear.
“Sure kid, any time.”

Steddie and Uncle Wayne Headcanons
- His uncle Wayne has always been good to Eddie. He might not understand his interests like D&D and Metal music but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t encourage Eddie to follow his passions.
- Eddie having a bad day at school so his uncle cooks him up some homely grub and they’ll sit and watch Westerns together. They don’t need to say anything to each other for Eddie to know he’s cared about.
- Wayne will come into Eddie’s room and ask what he’s up to, letting Eddie talk about his plans for his latest campaign or a new band he’s into. He totally looks through Eddie’s drawings and lets him play whatever song he’s practicing on his guitar and always tells him it’s good.
- Uncle Wayne makes Eddie a hot cocoa every single night before he goes off to the plant. He keeps a larder full of cocoa powder and marshmallows and always buys heavy cream because that’s the way Eddie likes it. It’s become a ritual at this point and Eddie can’t go to sleep without a cup of cocoa.
- Initially, Wayne was apprehensive when Eddie told him he was dating Steve Harrington. Not because he was a boy, but because he knows of Steve’s family and how Steve was in high school to him.
- Eddie was pissed that his uncle didn’t approve of Steve at first, so he usually locked himself and Steve in his room the entire time his uncle was there.
- But Steve comes around to the trailer early one day while Eddie is at Hellfire Club. Wayne is watching a Western and it just so happens that Steve has a soft spot for Westerns. They end up watching it together and talking about their favourite Wild West movies.
- Eddie comes home and finds Steve and Wayne eating grilled cheeses and watching The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and honestly he can’t be mad because at least they’re bonding.
- Then when they’re in Eddie’s room, Wayne comes in with TWO cups of cocoa and puts them down, smiling at Steve who is super confused because this is a thing? And holy shit why is it so good?!
- There’s one night where Wayne brings over the cocoas but he can hear Eddie playing the guitar and singing for Steve and it makes him stop at the door. He smiles because Eddie sounds so happy, he can hear them laughing and Wayne decides maybe that Harrington kid isn’t so bad after all.
That’s all I have for now. Just want to think of Wayne being a good uncle to Eddie and supporting his queer nephew and his boyfriend💕

THE DATING GAME  | headcannons (autumn edition)
Tumblr media
summary: you’re with steve but it’s not like anyone was supposed to find out (spoiler alert, they did) pairing: steve x nb!henderson!reader a/n: made a headcanny cuz i havent made them in a while. used prompt 9. gas station
masterlist. ☕. reqs are open for the september prompts! make sure to check out the autumn features as well! <3
right so it’s not like you and steve are slick (steve especially, any suaveness he had had in high-school seems to have vanished (maybe it was the multiple near death experiences or the humbling scoop’s ahoy uniform))
steve’s actually really obvious with his staring, and he does that a lot
just looks at you
it could be considered creepy if he didn’t look like a puppy when he did
all big affectionate eyes and a small, wistful smile
it almost made it look like he could form a coherent thought, which, as a matter of fact, he couldn’t
and you’re not the pinnacle of secrecy, either
but that’s okay since your feelings for him were just as obvious as his for you so it all worked out in the end
still, once confronted with the feelings you had harbored for him, meaning, you actually admitted them aloud, he was flabbergasted
“why didn’t you tell me sooner?!” and really, why didn’t you? so many staring matches and shy touches and awkward compliments could have been avoided if you just did
“why didn’t you?” you fired right back, and really, you did have a point. steve could’ve said he liked you from the start, but he didn’t, and he has the gall to blame you
cue some anxious shrugs, incoherent sputters, and hand gestures
“cuz you’re dustin’s older sibling!” steve finally said, “i can’t just--just like, you know, can’t--” you did in fact know what he meant, but pretended not to, only to watch him squirm, “dustin would kill me if he found out.” he lastly said, with a severity that surprised you
a plan started to form
“he doesn’t have to know”
yes, you were a genius, and so was he, that’s why he agreed so easily to just not tell your little brother or any of your friends that you were dating
it involved a lot of no so subtle “gotta go’s” and “sorry, can’t hang out, busy”
but neither you nor steve were creative enough to actually come up with believable scenarios as to why you were busy or needed to dash suddenly
it was only natural that dustin would grow suspicious and decide to investigate
he pulled the whole team together: mike, lucas, nancy, and robin
all walkie-talkies and subtle stalking following after steve’s car
it was a slow drive on a mild-september day
all orange sunset and harsh winds
once steve’s car pulled over into a rundown gas station, dustin instantly knew that a good old fashioned western shootout will take place at any moment
preferably without actual ammunition - words were enough to wound, after all
steve hopped out and filled the tank and then rushed to pay
the team, subtly hiding in their undisclosed vehicle, were waiting for you to poke your head out so the confrontation could take place
finally, steve came out of the station - two cups of too bitter coffee in hand and a cute keychain
the keychain was, of course, for you
a memento, a small, silly gift that reminded him of you suddenly as he was paying up
finally, a shadow of you could be seen through the rear window
you seemed to be smiling, and thanking steve for the coffee and the little cute keychain
dustin saw your heads draw closer to a kiss and panicked
he threw himself to the front of the car, almost smacking nancy behind the wheel, and pressed down on the honk hard
“dustin, what the hell?!” mike wheezed
“this betrayal will not be forgiven!”
dustin couldnt phantom while his operations team found the whole ordeal funny
he wasnt laughing
steve’s car suddenly sped off
“go, nancy, go, follow them!”
“are you serious?!” nancy whined, but turned the ignition on anyway
“yes, i’m serious, now fucking go!!!”

📖 (that's me reading the fanfics in your brain that you haven't written, please tell me about one)
describing a fic i've daydreamed about but not written (yet)
s3 steddie lives in my head rent free, there's so many possibilities there and all of them get delightfully muddled up in my head; but here's a specific one i think about a lot
eddie works in one of the stores at starcourt (probably a music store, maybe a nerd store) and considering where it's placed he has to walk past scoops like 4 times a day (on his way to his shift, on his way to smoko, on his way back from smoko + on his way home) ((okay he doesn't actually have to walk past scoops for smoko, he could go out the back, but sue him for thinking steve harrington looks silly in his little sailor outfit, it's the highlight of his day))
and he's walking past one day when he happens to look up and find Steve Harrington in the midst of what seems to be a pretty brutal light saber fight with a middle schooler in a dorky cap. and Eddie feels his heart flutter and just thinks oh god no and gets the fuck out of there bc thinking steve looks cute is one thing but thinking he's cute as a person? no fucking way munson, get your shit together.
and then later, when he's closing up and getting ready to leave, he spots his two favourite scoops employees marching down the empty hall, arguing about something, with two children in tow. He's curious - so goddamn curious - but his uncle's got the night off and they have dinner plans with an awful western that he refuses to miss out on, so he leaves them to it and goes home.
and then, the next morning, he glances into scoops as he walks past on his way to work and. it's still closed. empty.
Eddie tries to brush it off, tries not to think about the fact that an icecream parlor wouldn't be closed in summer. Tries not to think about Steve and Robin in a half-empty mall the night before, clearly just getting off their own closing shifts.
The next morning, Scoops is open, but it's the weekend staff, looking irritable. Eddie heads to his own store and tries to shrug it off, even though it's weird and makes his skin itch uncomfortably. It's none of his business, and frankly he's glad.
Later that night though, after he's finished closing and has decided he's not ready to head home just yet, he goes for a walk on the upper floor, past the cinema because he likes the way the floor vibrates sometimes in time with the sound effects.
he's just lighting a cigarette when he hears a door bang open, followed by what could be arguing, and then the click of the water fountain. he's still just kind of paused, lighter held to the end of his smoke but no flame lit yet, when he overhears the "why is it called back to the future?" conversation and then watches as Steve gets shoved out into the open hallway.
Steve doesn't see him, gets distracted by the lights on the ceiling, doing a dorky little spin and whispering for Robin to come look in an awed tone. But Eddie sees him, in his stupid sailor outfit even though he wasn't at work, covered in blood and looking like someone tried to cave his face in.
Robin seems, thankfully, unharmed but they both seem pretty out of it and Eddie realises, worriedly, that they're both on something. Something strong by the looks of it. Before he can ask if they're okay, if they need him to call someone - maybe an ambulance - they both go really pale and bolt for the bathrooms, just about falling over each other trying to get through the door and he follows them.
He doesn't go inside, because he's not sure if he's welcome and he doesn't know them very well, so instead he stands right outside the door, anxiously smoking. He can hear them talking - not their actual words, but their voices - so he knows they're not dead, and then he sees the kids that were with them the night before come crashing out of the cinema, looking around wildly.
They're just marching past the toilets, lowering their voices to hissing when they spot Eddie, when the two in the bathroom start....singing? it's bonnie tyler, total eclipse of the heart, except the pair of them sound like muppets and the two kids are now shoving past him to throw open the door.
One of the kids, a girl with bright clothes and a cutting eyebrow raise, looks him up and down and juts out her chin. "Don't you have somewhere else to be?" She asks, and it's less of a question and more of a dismissal and yes Eddie is worried and confused but also kind of relieved because he doesn't really want to be involved in whatever the fuck is going on here.
So he shrugs, takes a deliberately slow drag of his cigarette, and walks away. He goes home, and fiddles with his guitar, and makes sure the kitchen is tidy for Wayne; and he tries his best not to think about Steve Harrington.

AFTER A FEW hours of talking, reading, and digging through the records at the bookstore, Kate and Jamie finally closed up for the night.
Work wasn't bad whenever Jamie was there, especially when everyone in Hawkins seemingly forgot that the little bookstore on Main Street existed. They got enough business from the occasional person that walked in to buy ten books that the constant flow of cash into the store wasn't an issue. It gave them an opportunity to ransack the place, letting them dig through even the records and cassettes they'd started selling more recently. Kate had loved that addition: it gave her a notice of when Queen was releasing a new single or album, and that was something she hadn't taken light of in years.
As they waited outside after they'd closed up shop, Kate shivered slightly. During their shift, the temperature had dropped a few degrees, the sun had set, and the wind had picked up, leading it to be considerably colder outside.
"You want me to take you home?" Jamie finally offered, putting his hands in his pockets. "I mean, I don't mind if Harrington's busy."
"N–No, don't worry about it. It's completely out of the way for you to take me home," she said. "I don't want you to have to do that because he forgot again. I'm... I'm sure he'll be here in a couple of minutes, anyway."
"I don't want you to walk home by yourself, though," he said, frowning slightly. "You'd get kidnapped or something."
"Oh yeah? Kidnapped?" she said, stifling a laugh. "I'm sure they'd get tired of me, too. Kick me out of the van before they could even get to Indianapolis."
Jamie chuckled. "In all seriousness, I don't mind. It's ridiculous he makes you wait out here."
Kate looked to Jamie, sighing as the cold nipped her face and hands. "It's okay, I'm fine. Seriously."
On nights like this, Kate would usually tell Jamie that Steve was just running late, then would walk home by herself. She didn't want to bother anyone, and there hadn't really been anyone else that could take her home, anyway. By now, her father was probably wasted on the couch, watching a Western or the newest episode of Magnum P.I., and Steve was probably trying to sneak into Nancy Wheeler's house, completely forgetting about her once again for the sake of a girl he would forget about next week.
That night, however, she thought it was past time for something different.
"Hey, Jamie!" she said as she watched him open his car door.
"Yeah?"
She hesitated. "You still up for that ride?"
He smiled. "Yeah, get in the car."
Before taking Kate home, Jamie took her through Burger Chef, and they'd both sat in his car, parked in one of the random lots on the way to her place. As they ate, Steve's words from earlier that day started ringing in her head. Maybe Jamie did kind of like her (only a little bit, though).
"You need to start coming in at five instead of six, because that first hour alone is killing me," Kate said. Whenever he laughed, she raised her voice. "I'm not kidding! Mr. Novak came in and talked my head off about World War II books for twenty minutes and it was horrendous."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yes, so please for the love of God, ask to come in earlier. I cannot handle shit like that without some backup."
Jamie stifled a laugh. "Yeah, if you could get all your athlete buddies to study more, maybe I wouldn't be stuck at school until five o'clock."
"They're not my friends, they just know me because of Steve," she said, shrugging slightly. "I couldn't do that, though. Be a tutor. It would physically pain me."
He shrugged. "Yeah, that's because you're naturally smart, Kate. Some of us other guys? We gotta study hard and hope for the best."
"I wouldn't say I'm naturally smart, I've just had lots of training."
"Stop being so modest. You're literally one of the smartest people I've ever met." He paused. "Even if you don't like when grouchy old men ask you about the World War II books."
When Kate laughed, shaking her head, he smiled. Kate thought about what Steve had said earlier again. She hadn't ever really thought about him that way, but he did make her laugh, smile. He was a good friend of hers, and he knew what she liked. She didn't think that meant that they had to date or anything, but she wouldn't have minded dating him. She tried to shake her thoughts, but she couldn't—chronic overthinker.
"Hey, Kate?" Jamie finally asked, trying to snag Kate's attention.
She turned to him, her expression soft. "Yeah?"
"Why don't we do stuff like this more often?"
"I don't know," she answered, fidgeting with the blue hair tie on her wrist. "I just don't want to waste your time."
"What are you talking about? You could never waste my time."
She laughed once hollowly. "Trust me, I can. That and your money."
"Oh, are you referring to this?" he asked, holding up the bag their food had been in. "Yeah, don't worry about it. My treat."
She sighed, taking the last French fry of hers. "Fine." After a moment or two, a wave of excitement quickly washed over her. "Oh my God, I almost forgot to ask. When's that shipment of Pet Sematary coming in? Do you know? Please tell me you know."
"Sunday morning," he replied. "Don't worry, I'll pull a copy for you."
She smiled excitedly, still not able to shake the feeling. "Dude, really? Thank... Thank you so much. I cannot tell you how much that means to me, I've been waiting for weeks."
"Yeah, I know." He paused, meeting her eyes for only a moment. "You know, this has been really great. Seriously."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
Whenever he caught her eyes again, Jamie moved closer to her. He partially cupped her face with his hand, and she put her hand over his—it was almost like they both knew what was about to happen. Their lips got so close that they had almost kissed, but Kate pulled back at the last second. "I should probably be getting back."
Jamie pulled his head back, dropping his hand from her face. "What?"
"My dad, he's... he'll flip his shit. I–It's getting late, you know?"
Jamie looked at his watch, his eyes widening whenever he saw the time. "Oh shit, yeah, it is." He started the car engine up, the radio come on with it. "Y–Yeah, I'll take you home."
"Thanks."
As he gave a tight-lipped smile in return, Jamie wondered that if he were Steve Harrington, maybe Kate would've kissed him.
Jamie wasn't ignorant of everything he saw at school. While, sure, he was a year older than Steve and Kate in school, that didn't mean that Jamie didn't still hear about any time Steve Harrington quite possibly breathed in the direction of someone else, never mind when he walked around with Kate the way he did. He tried to act like he didn't care when Steve had his arm around her in the hallway, making her smile and laugh the way he did. Jamie, however, had to respect what Kate had told him since he had found out that she was best friends with him, and he would never feel any other way about that situation.
He didn't hate Steve, not in the slightest. He could only hope that Kate truly did like him as a friend and nothing more.
Tumblr media
Kate gave Jamie a very short goodbye before jumping out of his car.
The girl's stomach churned at just the thought of walking through the front door of the trailer. She'd been dreading going home, especially because she was getting there so much later than she usually did, but quickly that fear morphed into something else—her father's SUV wasn't in the driveway. When she'd gotten inside after checking the mail and hadn't found her father attempting to drown himself in alcohol, watching the televisionuntil he inevitably fell asleep on the couch, she'd begun to worry for other reasons.
At first, she told herself he probably just got held up at the station. Maybe he was at the bar downtown, enjoying himself with... someone? Maybe he was hooking up with a younger woman again (Hopper loved to act like his daughter didn't know about those even though she most definitely knew), and this time he forgot to leave a note saying that he'd be back tomorrow. Whatever it was, Kate told herself it was probably nothing—her dad was gonna come home, no matter what, because somehow, he always did.
She sighed as she set her bag down, shuffling through the mail. Nothing of importance, thank God. She quickly retreated into her room, even though no one was home except for her. She needed to do something other than worry about her father's presumably unimportant mail.
After Sara died, Kate found she was nervous a lot of the time (in addition to feeling sad, lonely, empty, and all of the other feelings that went with experiencing grief), so she'd tried to find things that she'd enjoyed, made her feel less nervous. Of course, one of those things had been reading, which was why she had that enormous bookcase in her room that just about had books falling out of it now—and no, Kate was not going to get rid of any of her books, as she had explained to Steve and her father both at least hundred times.
As the night got later and later, her father was still not home, Kate decided to read, (after finishing her homework, of course). While no one was home to distract her, she'd decided to pull out her notebook from the bedframe, continuing to write just where she'd left off. She didn't like to work when her father was home, never mind when anyone else was at the trailer, partially because she didn't want to have to explain what she was doing to anyone.
Kate had always loved writing. Ever since her sister had died, it had been her escape. She hadn't been too good at anything else, and it was something that could just be for her. She hadn't ever thought about doing anything else for the rest of her life, really. The idea that always kept her going, something she always had looked forward to: college. Since she'd been thirteen, all she had wanted was to go to New York University. She hated telling people that she wanted to go for writing. It felt like such a waste. NYU, though, was nothing to scoff at. It was known for its creative writing programs, and that was something she certainly enjoyed. Besides, NYU was home.
Even though Diane had still lived in New York City, Kate supposed it was still a big enough city where she would never see her mother, even if she wanted to find her. She couldn't think of a single reason that would make her want to contact her mother ever again. She didn't want to see her ever again, and she wasn't ever planning on it.
At least, that's what she hoped.
Tumblr media
At a quarter to eleven, Kate had finally decided enough was enough and called Flo, the station's secretary, tapping her foot as the line rang.
"Hawkins Police Department," she answered, her phone voice shining through.
"Hey, it's Kate," she said quickly, concern lacing her voice. "Have you, uh… Have you heard from my dad? He's never home later than this without a warning, or something."
Flo sighed—something was wrong, and Kate's heart rate immediately started to pick up. "Don't worry, he's all right. There's a… There's a missing boy. Joyce Byers's youngest? Your dad's leading a search party for him tonight."
Kate hesitated to go on. A missing boy in Hawkins? SHe hadn't ever heard of such a thing. While, sure, there had been that one family that got murdered in the '50s, not much else had ever happened in Hawkins, and that was the only reason Kate hadn't ever lost her mind living there. Hawkins was a sleepy town, and she was perfectly all right with that. "Search party?"
"I'll be sure to let him know you called, sweetheart."
"All right, thanks, Flo. Talk to you later."
Flo hung up the phone after a quick goodbye, presumably going on to another task that had something to do with the Byers boy. Now that Kate had the comfort of knowing that her father hadn't driven himself into a ditch, she should've been fine. However, the girl still couldn't go to sleep without knowing if he was okay or not. As she lay in bed, trying to fall asleep, she thought about the small town of Hawkins she had called home for the past four and a half years. Never once in her life had anything happened that significant in that town. Questions fired around her mind at a hundred miles an hour, questions about the boy, the town; it made her heartrate bounce through the roof. Nothing like this had ever happened in Hawkins. Ever.
She had no idea how much things were about to change.

Fear of the dark - preview CH 12
I did struggle with this fic. I must admit it. I had envisioned a completely different ending, but the story kept dragging me away from the ending I wanted and I have finally realized that I shouldn't be so stubborn and just let the things go as they want. So… after almost two months I'm going to update this fic. I was in a completely different place when I started it and I think it reflects on how the story changed… even if it really didn't. I think it was meant to be like that, I was the one that was unable to accept it. So, here is a little preview and I hope to update it tomorrow at the latest!
Eddie keeps staring at the door as if he could rewind the time and bring Steve back into the house. “I can drive you to the airport if you want to.” Wayne says, smoking a cigarette and watching an old western movie on tv. “Airport? What for?” “To stop Steve before he leaves.” “Why should I? He doesn’t want to have anything to do with me and he has plans now. He is going to a community college and…” “You should tell him how you feel about him or you’ll regret it.” Eddie shakes his head “I can’t. I fucked up.” “And so did he. You both fucked up too many times, let this be the last one, uh?” Eddie sighs, his eyes pinned on the old western movie on television. “Come on. I’ll take the key.”
