yes my art is explicit but that’s not the point. the point here is vulnerability and love. i think a lot about clark kent and navigating a world that isn’t made for you. a world that’s hostile towards the very idea of you existing (being other, alien) imagine living your whole life locked up inside of yourself, constantly having to exercise restraint (not just physical) being constantly aware of every action you do when you’re not alone (bc you’re not “normal” and wouldn’t want anyone to suspect that you aren’t) never being able to say anything about what’s going on inside you you become almost incapable of speaking about your emotions, of opening up. you always have to keep people at a distance. the toll it takes on you, the way it eats away at you to the bone. then comes this woman who turns everything you knew completely upside down. and you realize you have feelings for her but like… are you allowed? are you allowed to nurture the thought of a life together? could you ever have a chance? could she ever love someone like you? /something/ like you? do you even belong here in the first place? you who feel so much, so deeply, could you open yourself up and risk your heart being broken? and when she takes it, when she’s so gentle with it you just about break down and cry. with joy, relief, exhilaration. emotions you can’t name. yes, yes i deserve to be loved and here she holds me in her arms and im seen. im seen.

Smallville really hit me so hard that I just Stopped Watching, my "short mental health break" has been going for nearly two months.
My therapist's been out of office for 6 weeks and I finally saw him again and he asked me, "how was Smallville? I bet you've finished it a month ago." And I had to tell him, no, I watched maybe 2 episodes since I last saw you. He asked me if I'm okay. I don't think I am. He wrote this down.
What other show could compare

Superpham AU (part 7)
Masterpost
A short one today, but I thought this section was funny (until it got sad again).
-----
It’s a quiet evening in the Lane-Kent household: Lois is trying to turn her notes into an article, Clark is going over Jon’s math homework, and Jon is watching a show Lois is only half-following.  It features lots of gunfire and explosions, though Lois’s— unfortunately extensive— experience with witnessing real violence makes the version on TV look cartoonish.  She suspects that is part of the show’s appeal.
Danny is paying about as much attention to the TV as Lois is, engrossed in something on his phone.  At least he’s in the same room as the rest of them, instead of sequestering himself away.
“Hey Lois?” Danny suddenly asks.
Lois looks up from her work.  “What’s up?”
“Did you know the internet thinks you’re Superman’s girlfriend?”
Lois knows that if she looks at Clark, he’ll be turning red, the way he always does whenever this particular subject comes up.  Lois herself is barely holding back a laugh.  Jon’s wrinkling his nose, looking thoroughly embarrassed by his parents.
“Well, I am,” she says, barely keeping herself composed.
“No, I mean—” Danny begins.
“You mean people say that I’m dating Superman and married to Clark?”  Lois glances at Clark, who is now hiding his face in his hands.  “Someone forgot to check for cameras after rescuing me a few years back, and we got caught kissing on film.  It was let people think Superman is a homewrecker or let them think I’m in a polyamorous relationship with my husband and his alter ego.”
“That’s… really weird.”  Danny is giving her the kind of judgmental look only teenagers can give.
Lois does laugh at that.  “It is, a bit.  But it helps protect Clark’s secret identity, so I don’t mind.”
“Don’t listen to her,” Clark finally says.  “There were other ways to handle that situation; she just thinks this is funny.”
“Even your parents think it’s funny,” Lois says.  Clark just sighs, faux-aggrieved.
“It’s not even the weirdest thing on the internet about Superman,” Danny says.  “It’s just the weirdest thing everyone agrees is true.”
“Please do not tell me what else you’ve found,” Clark says.
“You can tell me,” Lois says.  “We can just make Clark leave for a bit.”  Reading conspiracy theories about Superman is her guilty pleasure, though if anyone asks, she does it to keep tabs on anyone who might have a viable way of hurting him.
Danny just laughs, and something in Lois’s chest seizes up.  Is this the first time she’s heard him laugh since he came back?  She thinks it might be.
She doesn’t want to call attention to it; like as not, that would just make him pull away again.  Instead she says, “Superman doesn’t even get the best conspiracy theories.  Those are all Batman.”  That’s because Bruce purposefully cultivates them, of course, but that’s not important.
“Which one is he, again?” Danny asks.
It’s not that Lois ever forgets that Danny has spent most of his life in another dimension.  But little offhand comments like that… they really drive it home.  There are plenty of superheroes, even Justice League members, that most of the general public has never heard of— but Batman is not one of them.
She's saved from answering by Clark.
"You'll meet him eventually," Clark says.  "He's a good friend of mine.  And Jon and Kon are close to his two youngest sons, Robin and Red Robin."
Danny nods thoughtfully.  "Right.  I think Red Robin's in the group chat Kon added me to."
Lois reminds herself to thank Kon next time she sees him.  He and Danny seem to have connected, and Kon seems to have made it his personal mission to keep Danny from slipping too far into one of his funks again.
"Speaking of Kon," Clark begins.  "Ma and Pa want to know when we'll be able to make it to Smallville to visit."
They've been trying not to overwhelm Danny by introducing him to too many new people at once, but maybe that was the wrong choice.  Maybe they should be pushing him to get out more, to connect with this dimension.  Besides, Kon spends most of his time in Smallville, and they already know that he and Danny get along.
Lois re-evaluates the article she’s been working on.  Perry would probably appreciate it sooner rather than later, but if she turns in a smaller article this week, she can probably swing a weekend off.  If not, she can always work on it from Kansas.
“This weekend should work,” Lois says.  “If that’s alright with you, Danny.”
Danny looks a little surprised to be consulted.  “I— yeah, that works.  Not like I have anywhere else to be.”  He laughs a little, but the joke falls flat, and Lois resolves to double down on helping Danny connect with more people here in this dimension.

Ok ok, but hear me out on a Superbat AU
Clark is 14 when Luthor learns the truth about his origin. He goes missing 3 days after school finishes for the summer. His parents search for him relentlessly, for years they beg for the return of their son. But despite the search parties and the press conferences no one comes forward and Clark is never found. A missing persons case that haunts Smallville for the years to come.
On the eve of Clark's 18th birthday Superman appears. Hovering over Metropolis in a pitch black uniform. Martha recognizes her son instantly, and watches in horror as he sweeps through the streets with a single minded focus. He returns to Lexcorp with a thief clutched in one hand and the same eerily blank face he'd had in every clip that had been captured of him.
Luthor heralded him as a superhero, thanked him publicly for returning the thief to Lexcorp to be prosecuted. No one notices when the thief disappears, and though they ask where the Superman goes when he isn't hanging in the sky above Metropolis there is no one who seems to have an answer.
Lexcorp tells the world that they should trust this being that has come to help. That he has shown only kindness towards them. That if he goes after someone, it is only because they must have done something terrible to deserve it.
In Metropolis Superman haunts the golden city, hangs in the air high above them and listens to Luthors orders in his ears. He has never wanted to hurt someone, but he has no choice. He is Luthor's favorite weapon, this he knows. And if he strays, Luthor will know.
Across the bay a Court stirs, they have always worked from the shadows. Hidden in Gothams walls and with their hands in every one of Gothams pots. Metropolis has a hero hanging high above their head, but the Court has done business with the man who pulls it's strings and they believe this is something they can work together on.
So the Court calls for a meeting and they plot their own path.
3 months after Superman debuts the Voice of the Court meets with Lex Luthor and offers a deal.
A decade before Superman debuts the Waynes die, their son is never found. It is a tragedy that haunts Gotham for a decade. It is a warning. The Wayne family has long stood apart from the Court, but Thomas and Martha got in the way. Thomas and Martha hampered the Court's goals, and so they had to go. Their son was a warning.
And now, their son is the warning.
The Talon stalking from shadowed perch. The greatest the Court has ever produced. And so they send their greatest weapon alongside the Voice of the Court and a deal is struck.
Superman meets a Talon. They see another made a weapon, and they begin to wonder.
Must they always be weapons?

I didn’t realize how much people liked the Clark Kent Smallville X Wednesday Crossover. So I have to do a Part 2! Where you can read here!
Tumblr media
The God Among Men, Part 2
(Y/n) and Wednesday continue to stare at each other. (Y/n)’s concentration breaks and he plummets from the sky to a loud bang on the ground, Wednesday quickly puts her string down and rushes to the balcony’s edge to see his fate. She peers over the railing and was surprised to see (Y/n) sitting up, rubbing his back.
“Ow..” he said, a fall that height should cause serious damage to the body but it looks like it did nothing to him. (Y/n) realizes just how bad this looks, his attention turns upward to Wednesday.
“Umm, Sorry!” He yells, before standing up to run away out of embarrassment. He hoped that this would be a singular mishap and leave it at that, unfortunately this is Wednesday Addams, and nothing is singular with her. (Y/n) unfortunately shared a chemistry class together so avoiding her was useless. The next morning was more than awkward, he kept his eyes locked on Miss Thornhill to avoid Wednesdays side eye. When class ends almost like a blur he’s already trying to get to the quad to lose Wednesday, getting round a corner he breathed a sigh of relief. Until Wednesday comes almost out of nowhere and pins him to the wall. Granted he towers over her at 5’11, her 5’1 absolutely intimidating stature wasn’t something the Kansas boy was used to.
“So, we have a peeping Tom in our midsts.” She keeps that cold, deathstare.
“No! I’m sorry I didn’t mean to, I was just listening to your music and I, got too close..” he sheepishly keeps his eyes from locking on hers.
“They’d expel you for what you’ve done, but.. I’ll consider looking the other way..” she said, his eyes slowly locked with hers. “For your undying service..”
“Undying Service? That, seems a bit extreme doesn’t it? Why not something more, mild?” He asks awkwardly.
“I don’t do mild. Either take my offer or be shipped away to a juvenile prison.”
“.. okay, fine.” He relents, Wednesday wasn’t your typical mean girl, she wasn’t mean she was, cold, Unnerving, probably dead too. But she knew how to use people to her advantage, no matter how pure hearted they are. “What do you want me to do?” (Y/n) asks, Wednesday steps back, letting him have his own personal space finally.
“Nothing. Yet. But I will call upon you, one day… it’s in your best interest to not forget our arrangement.” She gives one last threat before leaving like a shadow, (Y/n) let’s put a sigh, hoping that this will be quickly put to an end. Little did he know it was very, far from over.
“Why am I doing this?” (Y/n) walks though the cemetery with Wednesday, who’s ignoring his crying and whining.
“Because you swore an oath of Fealty.”
“No, no I didn’t.” He replies, “I’m being blackmailed.
“Same thing.” She retorts. They stop at a large tomb, “this, open it.” She said. (Y/n) looks at her.
“That’s it?”
“I can come up with more for you to do..” Wednesday ponders
“No no this is fine, I just expected, more.”
“More? It’s an ancient Crackstone tomb sealed for hundreds of years. I had to recruit someone who decipher the password to open it.” She says, (Y/n) simply turns his head to the door and concentrates, she watches red gleam from his eyes. She was stunned by the beam of intense heat that cut though the stone wall, he creates a shape hole and it begins to collapse. She steps back to avoid being crushed, (Y/n) so calmly lifted his hand, it hits his palm and didn’t move an inch, Wednesday watches in shock as he casually tosses the door to the side.
“So, we keep going?” He asks Her, Wednesday didn’t know what to say.
“Y-yes, let’s.” She said and walked into the Tomb, the cold decrepit place smelled of death. A lingering smirk crept along her face. (Y/n) felt the stench of death and he follows the girl around. Staring at the spot on the back of her head.
“So, what are you here for?” He asks her; who begins to look around the tomb.
“Do you remember Rowan?”
“The guy you said was murdered and who randomly appeared fine the next day?” He replies sarcastically. Wednesday morning chores his quip and searches the interior for any inscribing.
“Point is, It’s my belief that Rowan was killed, and the one you saw was a fake, someone meant to keep up appearances. It would be tragic to hear that a student was murdered here. Bad press and all that.” Wednesday explains, (Y/n) rubs his chin.
“Well when I used my X-ray vision, everything seemed fine with him.”
“X-ray Vision?” Wednesday Asks.
“Yeah, let’s me see though walls, rocks, inside the human body, no lead though.” He adds in.
“So it allows you to see though clothes as well.”
“Uh, Yeah?” He replies, and quickly makes the assessment of what Wednesday was thinking. “I didn’t use it on you. I promise.” He said, Wednesday stares daggers into his eyes and sees he’s genuine about it, and drops the conversation.
“Point is, I had a, vision.. Crackstone putting innocent lives to the stake. Nevermore lives, like you and I.” Wednesday looks over to multiple inscriptions over the tomb.
“So my theory lead to the serial killer and the knee covering up the murders. They aren’t working together, but they’re covering up third killings to avoid more scrutiny from the public.” She explains, reading a tombstone.
“So, they’re letting this killer get away because they don’t want the public to freak out?”
“So to speak, from what the Principal tried to infer to me, it’s all ridiculous And self serving for Jericho.”
“… You’re right.” He said, Wednesday wasn’t used to hearing someone actually agree with her.
“It’s wrong, covering up the truth to make life easier, just makes the people who know it hate it even more.” (Y/n) walks over to Wednesday, their height difference was profound as she had to almost look up to him.
“If you’re searching for the truth. I want to help, I’m not as smart as you I’ll admit but I’ll do my best.” He says, Wednesday, even if she didn’t act like it, appreciated the gesture. The two exit the tomb and Wednesday dusts herself off.
“As much as I enjoy the decrepit and cold ambiance, I hate getting my clothes with cobwebs.
“I could blow it off for you.”
“If your breath could freeze me to death like you said, I’d rather not.” She says, (Y/n) checks his watch.
“It’s nearing 3, we’ll be late for class.” (Y/n)
“And Weems would have my head for being late.” Wednesday said, grumbling. (Y/n) offers his hand, Wednesday looks at it and then back up to him.
“Absolutely not.”
“Why not?”
“I despise human contact, especially yours.”
“Wednesday, if we want to find this Killer we have to stay in Weems Good graces, so put your big girl Stockings on and take my hand!” He said with much more serious flare. Wednesday reluctantly sighs.
“Fine, just do what’s necessary—“ Before she could properly warn him, he swept her off her feet like the Prince Charming he is, and leaped, flying into the air. The sudden shift in air and temperature caught Wednesday off guard, she looked down, seeing the cemetery and the entire Nevermore grounds before her.
Height was always something she never truly appreciated until now, being able to see, everything, changed that. (Y/n) held her close as he searched for the Mathematics and Murder class. Finding the door he slowly descends down. Wednesday’s eyes went to his face as he kept them on the ground, he descended from the sky as if he was a god among men, landing calmly on the Quad he lets her go, still having his arm around her waist to keep her balance.
“Feeling okay?” He asks.
“Get your hand from around me before you lose it.” She demands, (Y/n) quickly moved, “Sorry.” He said, Wednesday said nothing and simply walked to class, she didn’t look back at him, either out of anger or embarrassment. (Y/n) shook his head and went to his. It seems this agreement could be much more than Wednesday herself could have asked for.

Taylor’s Guide for Getting into DC Comics
decided to make an official post for my method on getting into DC Comics
I don’t know anything about DC Comics and comics continuity scares me
if you’re intimidated by how many comics there are and all the different timelines and continuities and oh my god there’s so many characters then i suggest starting with watching Batman the Brave and the Bold
what it is: it’s a three season 22 minute cartoon from 2008. it focuses on Batman teaming up with a bunch of different heroes and is generally episodic in nature
why i recommend it as a starting point: at this point pretty much everyone has heard of batman in some shape or form. so this gives you a familiar character while being exposed to an enormous cast of different characters. it doesn’t give you the origins or much explanation for many of the characters or how they all know each other which is much like reading modern comics! so it helps you get used to not knowing who everyone is and not getting an origin story every time someone shows up. it also shows you pretty much every corner of the dc universe so you gain some passing familiarity with someone from every niche even if its by name only
some of its flaws: since its an adaptation there are things (many things) that don’t line up with how things are (or ever were) in the comics. which brings me to my next step
READ THE WIKIPEDIA PAGES OF CHARACTERS YOU’RE INTERESTED IN
i’m not talking about the wiki/fandom pages. i’m talking about wikipedia. this will give you some broader context for the characters both in universe and in the cultural landscape. also if you don’t feel ready to read the comics yet/don’t know where to get those comics it will give you other adaptations of that character if there are any. it could also mention another character that you also think is interesting and then you can read their pages
when you’ve done that then you can move onto
I know what character I want to read but how do I know what to read?
your two best friends are going to be googling “[character name] comic vine” and “[character name] dc wiki”
both comic vine and the dc wiki keep lists of character appearances. the dc wiki has them linked at the bottom of each character page while comic vine has them linked at the top
whats the difference between them?
comic vine keeps every appearance of the character under the same list even if its from a different continuity. they also list trade paperbacks and other language reprints under the same page. comic vine sorts it by series so you will see the series that your chosen character has the most appearances in first. which might not always be issues about them
the dc wiki separates out the character appearances based on which continuity its under. so characters will have multiple appearance lists depending on when it was published and if it was for an au or not. for example: bruce wayne (new earth) and bruce wayne (prime earth) are two of the MANY different pages with appearance lists for batman on the dc wiki. vs comic vine where they’re all under bruce wayne. the dc wiki does not include reprints and trade paperbacks under the appearance lists and sorts it alphabetically
so which one do i use?
personally i’d start with the comic vine list. its easier to get the relevant info from and then use it to answer these questions
does your character have a solo series?
a solo series is anything that’s named after that character. sometimes they’re duo series (batman & superman, blue & gold, fire & ice: smallville etc). if yes start with one of those. if you plan on reading everything and don’t mind older writing styles pick the oldest one and move through the list of solo series. if you are turned off by the older writing styles start with the oldest one published in or after 1986. if you just want to read more modern/current stuff start with one labeled “rebirth” at the top
is your character on a team book?
if your character doesn’t have a solo or you read the solos and want to read something else see if they’re on a team book! team books are just what they sound like. books that focus on a bunch of characters that are operating under the same team name. if you read their wikipedia page it probably mentions if theyre on a team. you can also double check with the dc wiki (check the [character name] new earth and [character name] prime earth pages to see if they’re affiliated with anyone)
if they’re in multiple volumes of the same title team book i would generally start with the oldest. again skip any from before 1986 if you can’t handle the older writing styles. and if you only want the really new stuff start with ones with the rebirth label on them
my character doesn’t have a solo or a team book!
so you’ve got a few options.
look up a reading guide (which honestly you couldve done for the other characters too but i think it’s better to learn how to choose which ones to read yourself since they don’t always have reading guides)
start at their first appearance then go from there (if comic vine has your character listed with 250 or less appearances this is a decent choice especially since anywhere from 10 to 25% of those will be reprints)
choose based on the artwork (good art/art you like can get you through a lot of bad writing)
generally all of these are good options to take. with option three just be wary if the writer is tom king since he is known to take extreme liberties with characteristics
tips and tricks
if you really like the writing or the art on a book take note of who wrote it or who drew it. if you search “[creator name] comic vine” it will pull up a page similar to the character ones and you can check what other stuff they made. following a creator’s career is a good way to branch out your reading list and helps you identify what you do and don’t like
if there’s a specific kind of character you want to read (divorced, fire powers, alien, etc) you can check the category pages on the dc wiki. just find the page of a character you know fits that category (maxwell lord for divorced for example) scroll to the bottom. expand the categories and click on the one you’re looking for. you’ll find a list of characters with that tag on them
some characters are just confusing so don’t worry about it. hawkman, hawkgirl/woman, and supergirl have three of the most confusing continuities in dc comics. so if it seems confusing don’t let it stop you
you really don’t have to understand the nuances of continuity in order to enjoy comics. that has never stopped a writer before. so it shouldn’t stop you!
you can read comics with the dc universe subscription or comixology or going to your local comic shop. some used bookstores also have comic bins. if you google “read comic online” you should probably find something. make sure you have a good adblock though
thats basically it. just rinse and repeat with however many characters you want!
final notes
personally i think reading stuff from oldest to newest is the most interesting way to read comics because then you can see how the character has evolved over the years and find out which writers like to collaborate with previous ideas and which ones like to bulldoze it all down
1986 is chosen as a dividing point because that is when DC’s first MAJOR continuity reboot happens. it’s Crisis On Infinite Earths and basically just combines all the different DC earths into one. so there’s a lot of explaining whats going on in those earlier books. you CAN start with the 70s stuff if you want but generally its easier to start with the late 80s if you don’t want to go all the way back
books labeled rebirth are chosen for the people who want to start with the now because that is the start of the last major reboot and will introduce you to the modern interpretation of the character. which imo isnt always the best since a lot of the modern interpretations are more shallow. but to each their own

As someone who's super into Superboy, do you have any reccs for curious beginners about what to watch/read to check that out?
( GOD I'M SO SORRY HOW LONG I TOOK TO ANSWER THIS, I LEFT IT HALF-FINISHED IN MY DRAFTS BECAUSE I MEANT TO LOOK UP SOME FIC RECS LATER AND THEN TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT IT, hahasob. Dangit, self! I don't know if this is even still a relevant question for you but screw it, forget both that concern and the recs-research, I am ANSWERING IT NOW. )
So as far as actual canon goes, in the comics I mostly read his original solo title from issue fifty to cancellation, which was about another fifty issues, and also all of Young Justice's original run and both the World Without Grownups and Sins of Youth events, as well as a few other YJ-related one-shots and specifically Young Justice: The Secret, which is I beeelieve only one issue and was the comic that first got me interested in YJ as a team to begin with. I went back and read some earlier issues later, but issue fifty of Superboy's first solo is actually a really good jumping-on point for him imo, it's the start of an arc about him being stranded on an island of beast-men with amnesia and repressed powers and it sets up a new status-quo for him after. There's also a later arc in the series about interdimensional travel through Hypertime where he meets a lot of other versions of himself, including the grown-adult version who's trying to invade half the multiverse, which I thought was especially good too. And like, just it was a real good run in general, I thought, I really dug it.
Also, he was originally introduced as a character after (or during?) the Death of Superman arc and featured reasonably heavily in the Reign of the Supermen event as one of the four replacements trying to become the new Superman, though I haven't personally read much of those. If I started anywhere as a newcomer, I'd probably start with either his original solo run or the original Young Justice. Or both! Both is good! Young Justice is especially choice, though, and also tells a full and pretty well-developed story over the run of the comic without anything in particular getting cut off prematurely. Like, I remember it wrapping up really well, especially for an ongoing American comic from the Big Two.
Other comics I know Kon's been prominent/important in but either haven't read or haven't read much of: Superboy and the Ravers, Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day, Teen Titans (2003), another solo Superboy title set in Smallville, Young Justice (2019), Dark Crisis: Young Justice, and Superboy: Man of Tomorrow.
There's also the Young Justice cartoon, which has a VERY different take on his personality, though I still really liked what I saw of the character and have written fic about that version of him, and then there's the animated Reign of the Supermen movie, which I still haven't seen but looks real good and seems to be more comics-accurate, personality-wise. And like, I absolutely LOVE his design in it, haha. He's just a lil' brat, it's great! In live-action there's both Titans and later seasons of Smallville, but I wasn't very interested in either of those myself and don't know much about them.
There's . . . there's a lot out there, haha, the character is like a good thirty years old now. And honestly I kinda play fast and loose with some of the canon, this is VERY much the kind of fandom where I just go for what I think works best for the story I wanna tell. It's comics, okay, canon is BARELY EVEN GUIDELINES AT THIS POINT, hahaha.

What about the oddduck asks? Do I need to break out the “bad anon” squirt bottle again?
No, I just needed someone to ask me something so I could write this 🤣
"Why are you so nervous, Smallville?" Lois asked, standing on her toes to kiss his cheek, eyes teasing. "I don't care that your best friend is a girl-"
"It's not that," he chuckled. "Y/N is... different. Not quite everyone's cup of tea."
"Is she one of those people that says she's blunt and is really just a raging bitch to everyone?" Lois asked.
"Oh gosh no," Clark said, "She's just- a little odd."
"Like 'needs to be medicated' odd or-"
"Neurodivergent odd," Clark corrected gently. "She hyperfixates on stuff and she can seem a little spacy or aloof if she's in a rabbit hole."
"Rabbit hole?"
"That's what we started calling it when she was little- Like Alice following the white Rabbit, she just sorta tumbles down until she hits the bottom."
"Cute," Lois said, crinkling her nose. "So, she's not rude just not a people person-"
"It gets better once she gets to know you," he assured her. "When we were kids I thought she didn't like me until some older boys were making fun of me and she just stood in front of me and stared at them until they went away."
"Stared at them?" Lois asked, laughing.
"Sure. The creepy little girl stare... she's still really good at it."
"And the rest is history?"
"Well yeah," he said, "Ma and Pa already knew her grandparents and they were all just thrilled we were buddies... Not like people and their kids got any nicer to her."
"Oh."
Clark nodded a little sadly, "Sometimes people would pretend to be nice to her to get to me. And other times they'd just... well. Let's just say I've broken up with people for treating her badly."
Lois nodded, understanding now why this was important. And she just hoped she could at least grin and bear it.
_________________
Clark tried not to scowl at his wife who was gleefully telling his Ma about Bruce Wayne coming to visit you when you'd been in New York to give a lecture at NYU.
But, even he had to admit, it was better Bruce than the last guy. And it was better that you weren't just alone. And that's when he heard it. The crack in your voice when you said 'Stop!'.
And he didn't want to hear you telling your mother off but he did, "I gotta go," he said, picking up his keys.
"Clark what-"
"I'll explain later but-"
"I'll make up the couch," he heard Jon call from the other room.
"And I'll heat up the pie," Martha said, watching him pause to kiss his wife on the way out the door.
"Do you want me to come?" Lois asked, stroking his cheek. "Just tell Pa to grab a jar out of the cellar," he murmured, his lips close to her ear, "and don't let ma hear you."
"Don't let Ma hear what?" Martha demanded.
"Nothing," they chourus, and before Martha can demand her son answer for himself, he's gone. To try and intercept you. Remind you that there's places where who you are is enough.

I'm reading summaries and transcripts, and once in a while forcing myself to watch episodes of anything after season 3 of Smallville (solely so that I can rewrite them in a way that's much more coherent (and CLexy, but that goes w/o saying))... and my GOD, they are so dumb sometimes. Poor Michael. having to convincingly say shit like "your girlfriend was possessed by the ghost of a witch" with a straight face! (Side note what the actual fuck is the plot in this season? Season 4 is insane and I don't even want to talk about it.) Yes the show has always been a little goofy and has some storylines that are questionable... but they are really pushing it now.
Also one of the main strengths of the show is the chemistry between Michael and Tom, and yet they have full episodes where they don't even interact, and it's just like, *what* are you doing?! And then to top it off, each summary just gets more and more ridiculous and complicated as the seasons goes on, and I'm just like oh thank god I have simplified it in fanfiction! They are no damn witches (because let me not even get started on how witches are portrayed in most TV shows!), there are no spirits floating around trying to possess people (just because you have Kryptonite around does not mean you get to hand-wave literally anything at all. Why in the hell would a Kryptonite nodule or some dust cause ghosts to exist? It affects *living cells* with *radiation*. I don't even understand why they would make a decision like that. They really must have been desperate for stories already, and we're not even halfway through the show yet).
I'm not going to even get started on my main gripes with the show that have existed from the beginning, like turning Superman into a self-serving, abusive, selfish liar who lies, or the fact that their main "villain" was created out of victim-blaming and abuse and then everybody's just gleefully happy for Lex be treated like shit for no fucking reason whatsoever, while his Literally Evil father is turned into some kind of pseudo "good" guy. Cuz yeah, abusers should be redeemable. but their victims should end up alone and tortured and treated like shit by everybody around them. That totally makes sense. I won't get started, I really won't, because I will be here all day. Or the fact that nobody seems to have figured out that Clark is a meta at the very least, when he does all kinds of weird shit all the time. These people are smart. Chloe and Lex especially are not fucking stupid by any stretch. It just simply would not have taken them four or more years to realize that he could easily one of the mutants in town. Nobody would be shocked in the slightest; but they play it like they're just too stupid to figure it out, and it's terrible because Clark is the worst liar in the universe.
Also, somebody who's not yet Superman is not going to be fighting beings like Doomsday when they're still like 20. It's just not going to happen. I'm not even getting started on creepy stuff like how they're totally sexualizing someone who's playing a minor because she is their eye candy on the show. Lana and Kristin deserved better! The female lead who basically existed to further the two guys' storylines for like three seasons finally gets her own story... but it's about being possessed by an ancient witch or some shit? They are actually sexualizing her near death experience, like some kind of creepy PG snuff film (who actually made the decision of trying to make Lana being slowly suffocated a weird sexy vibe?! So fucking problematic I don't even know where to start). And then the male lead's other love interest is summarily killed by their cardboard cutout villain of the week with his lack of character development, simply so that she can't get in the way of Supes' future storyline, because she was literally created only to be a roadblock to his future goals, masquerading as something to keep him from actually being lonely to death. All she did wrong was to wish she could free of stigma about Mental Health... then shortly afterward, when she was essentially killed about it, he turns around and is fine again because he gets a football scholarship. What the fuck?! (Yes, I'm looking at you, Pariah).
I can't even with this show sometimes. I'm so glad I quit when I did. I tend to forget how insane and Incredibly questionable a lot of it is until I have to watch something of it in order to rewrite it. But I guess that's why there's fanfic in the first place!

Scoops! (Part 1)
Okay, so this fic is of course mainly taking place in the My Adventures With Superman continuity of Superman, but I also wanted to incorporate some aspects of comics Lois in there as well. It also takes a lot of inspiration from Gene Luen Yang's Batman/Superman: The Archive of Worlds, and I wanted to adapt elements of that comic to My Adventures with Superman. So it's a mish-mash! This is my first time writing for Superman in anything other than a shitpost, so I hope you enjoy!
Read it on AO3 here!
-----
“Eyes up, Smallville,” Lois was bobbing a little where she stood. She was in yoga tights and a loose cutoff tee that was apparently a souvenir from a monster truck rally called ‘MeTRUCKolis.’ Her wrapped fists were squared up in front of her. Clark loomed before her, his own legs slightly bent, wearing a beat-up white t-shirt and sweats.
Clark adjusted his glasses and took a steadying breath. “Okay,” he said, bringing his arms up.
“Ready?” she asked. He liked that little flash of fierceness in her eyes.
“Mm-hm.”
Bap. Bap. Bap. She had been talking him through proper blocking, and, from what they could observe, Kryptonian nerve endings seemed to follow a lot of the same logic as human ones, and she was always quick to correct his form or stance. Obviously she didn’t have the same hand-to-hand prowess as that skull-helmeted orange and black guy with the swords, but it was still a good opportunity to actually observe the patterns of a proper fighting style rather than be blindsided by a flurry of blows.
Bap.
Watching Lois, blocking her strikes, he could see there was clear logic to her movements: an awareness of space and a conservation of energy that seemed so far beyond him simply because he still had barely a grasp on what he was able to do to begin with. Rolling with the force of the punches was definitely instinctive for him at this point, but he was still trying to parse out how exactly his own invulnerability worked. Frankly, he didn’t really like the current approach of, “Oh, I guess that doesn’t kill me,” but it wasn’t like he was actively trying to lower whatever unconscious mental blocks he had on what probably could be hurting him a lot more if he let it. He could feel the roughness of Lois’s fist wrappings, the warmth of her skin through them, could feel his own flesh yielding, if only slightly, at the impact. He knew she actually packed a significant punch compared to the average person, but she was holding back in her own way. There was the instructive element to it, but caution, as well. After all, how hard would you want to punch someone who not only was your boyfriend, but whom you had also seen make a massive impact crater on concrete?
Bap. Bap.
Lois was a ruddy, flushed mess, but in Clark-vision she was a dewy and glowing warrior goddess, hair sleeked back with her own sweat. They had been at this for the better part of an hour—their training session interrupted only twice by Clark having to rescue several construction workers downtown when an I-Beam’s crane cables snapped loose, and later to fly a little girl and her grandfather to a hospital when the grandfather had a stroke. He had been trying to get better about letting certain things resolve themselves—Metropolis had firefighters, crisis hotlines, and paramedics, after all—but he had also gotten practiced enough with his super-hearing that he had a much stronger grasp on where the location of certain cries for help were coming from—say, if that stroke victim was also in an affordable housing unit.
Bap. Lois’s fist made contact with his left pec.
“Clark, shoulders,” she said for what was definitely more than the tenth time, “And you’re not even trying to evade.”
Clark wasn’t sure how practical evasion was when he was, in fact, significantly wider than her. Her fists were pretty centered on him as a result. He was great at evading while in flight, maybe because momentum was such a strong factor that impact could easily wrest from his control and he didn’t want to make himself into a missile by getting blasted out of the air, but here, in the laundry room basement of Lois’s apartment building, on a mat graciously lent to them by Steve Lombard, in close quarters with a much smaller (but much fiercer) opponent, there wasn’t a lot of space to evade, nor really a strong physical need to. Lois was going in for a hard left hook now.
“I don’t know if this is really working,” said Clark, finally dipping to one side with superhuman speed, sending Lois stumbling forward, but she righted her own momentum and easily pivoted into a back kick.
Careful, Clark instinctively caught her foot before it met his jaw, letting his own hand briefly follow the arc of the kick so she wouldn’t hurt herself with the sudden stop. He stood there, awkwardly holding her by the brightly-colored trainer.
“Okay, now counter,” said Lois.
“Counter?”
“You have my foot. I’m off-balance and vulnerable. Flip me, or something.”
“Lois, I’m not going to flip you.”
“We have a mat!”
“Look,” Clark let her foot go, “I know you mean well with this, but I never really thought of my powers in terms of fighting. I don’t like thinking of my powers in terms of fighting.”
“Well, don’t think about it as fighting, then,” Lois regained her stance and put her hands on her hips, “Think of it as… stopping a fight before it becomes a fight. We both saw that footage, the more you get hit…”
“The more I get hit,” Clark conceded.
“Right, you get discombobulated, and then overwhelmed. And it’s clear even if you can take those hits, that actually taking those hits uses up energy for you. There’s just a lot of surface area like this,” said Lois, splaying her fingers across Clark’s chest.
Clark gulped at the physical contact and Lois caught herself, a drop of sweat hanging on one lick of hair at her temple, and cleared her throat, putting her hands on Clark’s shoulders and guiding them so that he was standing at more of an angle. “You have to give your opponent less of a space to hit. You just keep coming at people fully sheeted forward, it’s no wonder you’re getting shot or laser-blasted in the back all the time.”
“I’d just rather the laser blasts hit me than…”
“Than the other guys shooting at you?”
Clark’s brow went between a furrow and a crinkle and he glanced off. “I mean, they’re less bulletproof.”
“Clark…” Lois started and then a sigh escaped her. It was one of her ‘I worry about you’ sighs but this one was clearly combined with the actual physical exhaustion of punching him for at least 45 minutes. “I’m gonna get some water.”
“Right…” Clark itched at the back of his neck. “How do you know Krav Maga, anyway?”
Lois gave him a kind of sad sidelong glance before taking a long gulp from her steel water bottle and Clark put 2 and 2 together.
“Oh….” he said quietly.
“One of the closest things we got to quality time, me and my dad,” she shrugged, wiping her mouth. A pause passed between the two of them, a silent, mutual acknowledgement that they didn’t have to re-open that can of worms right now. “Honestly I’m out of practice with Krav Maga specifically, though,” Lois added, “These days I just kick box down at Irons Gym twice a week.”
“I’d like to see that,” the words came out of Clark unthinkingly.
A catlike little smile spread on Lois’s lips.
“I uh—I could probably learn a lot more about proper stance and counters and, um, surface area by watching you in action,” Clark added. Were his glasses steaming up?
“Invitation’s open, Smallville,” she said, setting her water bottle down on the washing machine.  She rolled her shoulders. “Okay,” she said, clapping her wrapped palms together, “Obviously this wasn’t as productive as I would have liked, but we can finish off by showing you my ultimate move.”
“Ultimate move?” Clark blinked a little helplessly.
“Did you know you like, almost never use your legs in a fight?” Lois was hopping in place a little, bouncing her weight between her feet, loosening herself up.
“Again, I don’t really think of my powers in terms of—”
“Think fast!” Lois rushed him, launched herself into the air, twisted in mid-air, and caught him around the neck in what would have been a brilliant scissor-leg takedown if… it actually took him down. Instead, he just kind of ended up rolling back to a near-limbo position to account for her momentum, then brought himself back upright. To her credit, she did keep furiously twisting and squeezing and trying to use her own center of gravity against him the entire time he was doing this, and Clark really wasn’t sure if it was the flight or the super-strength doing most of the work in making her ultimate move… not work… but once he was standing up straight again, she slackened with a frustrated groan, leaving her basically dangling off of him by one leg yoked over his neck.
“…I see what you were going for, there,” said Clark after a beat.
“It would have worked,” Lois’s voice was half a grunt from her semi-upside-down angle, “If you weren’t… y’know.”
Clark thought, Lois, you can choke me with your legs any day of the week, before blurting out, “No, I’m sure! It’s a great move!” and then quickly scooping an arm under her, “Uh—here, let me—”
Getting Lois back to an upright standing position from her current entanglement was a bit like wrestling a large fish out of water, but he managed to set her down with her looking only somewhat sulky.
“It really was a great move,” Clark tried to reassure her.
“It’s not that,” said Lois, readjusting her sports bra, (which made Clark quickly glance off, face burning), “I just… wish we had a safe environment for you to actually work on this stuff! Actually get a grasp on what you can do and how… there’s still so much we don’t understand.”
“I know,” said Clark, not wanting to say If I wasn’t what I was, we wouldn’t be spending one of our few days off like this. Even when I’m not Superman-ing everywhere, this is still eating up both our lives.
There was a familiar fanfare message chime and Clark, desperate to break that chain of thought, quickly stepped over to his duffel bag and grabbed his phone, reading the text on the screen. “Oh hey, Jimmy’s finally done with his thing.”
“His ‘thing?’”
“He wouldn’t tell me what it was,” said Clark, putting the phone back in the bag, “But he wants us both to come over and check it out.”
“Well, obviously we can’t go over there all sweaty, Smallville,” said Lois, grinning, “Looks like you’ll have to use my—-”
Clark zipped upstairs in a blur and after about 15 seconds zipped right back down, super-scrubbed clean, in a completely different outfit to account for the cold weather, and hair still slightly damp.
“…Shower,” Lois finished flatly.
“There’s still plenty of hot water left,” said Clark.
“Cool, thanks,” said Lois, not even remotely trying to hide her disappointment.
——
A shower, a change of clothes for Lois, and short tram ride later, they were at Jimmy and Clark’s apartment building.
“So, when’s Jimmy going to use his Flamebird bucks to get a penthouse?” asked Lois, as they both got in the elevator.
“You know he hasn’t really talked about the money that much,” Clark shrugged, “I dunno if he’s still trying to figure out what to do with it, or if he’s just letting the fact settle in, or what. Then five days ago he starts working on this thing and he’s just been kind of hyper-focused and really secretive about it since then.”
“Secretive, huh?” Lois brought a hand to her chin thoughtfully as the elevator dinged open, “Think he’s being mind-controlled or something?”
“Oh no, definitely not,” said Clark as they walked down the hall, “He gets exactly like this when he’s editing one of his longer video essays. I remember this one time back in college when—” Clark suddenly paused and tilted his head, squinting slightly, as he often did when his super-hearing was picking up something unusual.
“Clark?” Lois looked up at him.
“Some kind of… fizzing sound…at the docks…” Clark murmured. He stood stock-still in that hallway for about thirty seconds before straightening his head again and shrugging, continuing down the hall. “Well, it’s gone now.”
“Look at you, not flying off in a panic every time you don’t know exactly what something is,” said Lois, proudly.
“Baby steps,” said Clark, smiling.
The door to Jimmy and Clark’s apartment swung open before either of them could knock.
“Hey Ji—” Lois started.
“You’re here,” said Jimmy, breathlessly, “Come in, come on! Come in!”
Both Clark and Lois were hustled into the apartment, which was noticeably messier than usual with multiple boxes and foam packaging and those weird plastic air bags which never pop as satisfactorily as bubble wrap.
“Online shopping…?” asked Lois and Clark shrugged.
“Nothing so simple!” said Jimmy, clearly over-caffeinated and already across the apartment, forcing Lois and Clark to follow him, “I’ve finally been able to realize my vision!”
There was a mania in Jimmy’s voice that made Clark and Lois exchange glances and wonder if the whole experience with Monsieur Mallah and the Brain had rubbed off on him more than anticipated.
“What vision?” asked Clark, but they had already reached his and Jimmy’s room and Jimmy was bent over his desk.
“Lady and Gentleman,” he said deeply and dramatically, slowly pivoting around, “I give you, the one, the only,” he was holding something a little bigger than a shot put ball, covered with a dish towel, “the state-of-the-art, the one-of-a-kind, next generation in Flamebird content creation,” he whipped the dish towel away to reveal a silvery dome embraced by an incomplete disk, “Scoops!”
Clark and Lois stared at the object in Jimmy’s hand blankly. It seemingly stared back with its indifferent camera lens at the front, flanked by two triangular metal plates.
“S-Scoops…” Jimmy said, as if they should both know what he was talking about.
Clark and Lois looked up from the object to Jimmy, still clueless.
“It’s a news drone,” said Jimmy.
“Ohhhh,” Clark and Lois said at the same time.
“So it’s like… a new camera?” said Lois.
“Camera? Camera?!” Jimmy held Scoops close, aghast, “Scoops is voice-commanded with a learning AI, has a whopping six terabytes of still image, text-by-dictation, or video memory, is VPN secured and encrypted with its own personal cloud, equipped with the latest in hover-mag suspension systems, is synced with an app on my phone, and tops out at 45 miles per hour.”
“Do we also have to call it ‘Scoops’—” Clark started.
“Yes, yes, you do,” said Jimmy.
“Wait—” Lois glanced back at the boxes, “Jimmy, you put this together yourself?”
“Well, I saw the hover-mag drone frame at the AmerTek pavilion two years ago at the Metropolis Tech Trade Conference, and the processing is mostly AmazoTech AI hardware that wasn’t approved for mass-market release yet but it turns out with the company collapsing, there were a handful of people willing to look the other way and dig through lab storage for me. The lens components and digital recording are a combination of my own favorite camera companies and a handful of bits I had to 3D print myself. And I had to teach myself to solder,” Clark glanced at his hands, noting several bandages on Jimmy’s fingers and a a moleskin blister pad at his left hand’s heel. “So, I mean the components were all there (except the 3D printed ones), I just put them together.”
“But, why wouldn’t the AI tech be approved for mass market release yet?” said Clark.
“Knowing Ivo, probably branding stuff—glossy AmazoTech user interface kind of things, probably,” Jimmy was turning Scoops over in his hands, buffing away at any smudges on the chassis with his dishtowel, “But it responded just fine to my programming.”
“Can I ask how much did this cost you?” asked Lois
“Money is no object when it comes to solving mysteries and changing the face of news as we know it,” said Jimmy, smiling, which both Lois and Clark interpreted to be ‘A lot.’
“Isn’t AmerTek a weapons company—?” Clark started, adjusting his glasses.
“It’s not all weapons,” Jimmy shrugged, “Plus I figured Scoops needed a pretty hardy chassis with all the crazy stuff we get into.”
Clark and Lois still looked more concerned than convinced.
“All right, fine, I’ll give you a demo,” said Jimmy, clearing his throat, “Scoops, activate.”
The lens at the front of Scoops glowed to life and the two triangular plates flanking the lens hovered off of the drone’s spherical dome. Jimmy gently released the drone and it hovered into the air between the three of them, prompting “oohs” from both Lois and Clark.
“Oh, and Lois, can you stand right there?” said Jimmy, positioning Lois at a slightly more open area of the room.
“Me?”
“Yeah, when you hear the cue, just start acting like you’re doing a news report.”
“Oh! Um, okay,” said Lois.
Clark just kept a wary gaze fixed on the little drone now hovering over their heads. Scoops didn’t seem particularly threatening, but Clark definitely had some concerns about something made with both AmerTek and AmazoTech hardware.
“Great start, Scoops, now begin live feed on… Lois Lane,” said Jimmy, taking out his phone.
Scoops seemed to process this command for a second, then shot out the window in a tinkling explosion of glass.
There was a beat of silence. The three of them looked out the jagged hole in the window, watching as the little drone rapidly shrank into the distance through downtown Metropolis, towards the industrial district.
“It was not supposed to do that,” Jimmy said very quietly. He watched the drone zooming off into the distance for several seconds before he realized Clark and Lois were still watching him. He caught himself. “Small hiccup! Not a problem! I’ll simply recall Scoops using my phone.” He demonstratively hit a button on his phone screen, put one hand on his hip, and waited. A long, silent minute passed.
Clark was squinting out the window. “I.. um.. Jimmy, I don’t think it’s coming back.”
This was when Jimmy’s face finally dropped. “Oh come on!” He was tapping at his phone furiously, “It was doing great in the test runs!”
“Do you know where it’s going—?” Lois started.
“I’ve got both its camera feed and a GPS locator for it on my phone,” said Jimmy, “But Clark, can you—?”
“On it,” said Clark, before zipping out of the room in a blur, leaving a flutter of loose papers in his wake. A few heartbeats later and a blue-clad, red-caped figure was soaring after Scoops. Jimmy’s phone pinged. “GPS feed, let’s go!” He said, hooking his arm in Lois’s and sprinting off out of the apartment.
——-
In theory, Clark knew with enough speed he could easily overtake the drone, snatch it out of its course, and yank it back to his and Jimmy’s place, but it turned out the drone had a significant lead on him because he first got sidetracked first swooping a bike messenger out of the way of a taxi that had run a red light, then giving directions to those tourists, then taking that little old lady’s big box of dead batteries to the e-waste recycling center—okay, in retrospect she could have found a nice neighborhood boy for that last task but come on, he was right there, what was he going to do? Say no? But okay, yes, that did turn into taking the whole apartment building’s dead batteries and Lois would say, ‘Clark look at yourself, you are literally taking people’s garbage, we’ve talked about prioritizing,’ but he was already on the way and proper disposal of batteries was important too, wasn’t it? It reduced fire risk and kept toxins from leeching into the soil, so he was basically preventing future crises in Metropolis. Plus, it wasn’t like Scoops was actually in any danger, it was just… on the run, apparently. Gone rogue. The guilt did hit Clark pretty hard once he got back on task. Poor Jimmy seemed so excited about Scoops, and had obviously been working really hard on it—for all his feelings about AmazoTech, Clark wished he could have been more supportive in the moment. At least the drone’s distinctive hover-mag whir made it pretty easy for him to quickly relocate it, but something was irking at the back of his mind as soon as he got a visual bead on it once again.
The fizzing sound from earlier, he thought, watching the drone, It’s going toward where the fizzing sound was.
The drone suddenly dropped into a sharp descent and Clark shifted his position in the air to drop after it. The Metropolis docks. Scoops was now hovering around, seemingly searching among the massive shipping containers. Clark floated after the drone, feeling a bit of unease at his environment. Shipping containers could easily create close quarters, definitely weren’t fun to be slammed into, even with invulnerability, could clatter over and hurt someone if he hit them with enough force, and provided a lot of coverage for people to hide behind and within that super-senses couldn’t account for 100% of the time.
“Scoops?” Clark felt a little ridiculous calling after it, but it responded to voice commands, didn’t it? “Scoops?” He called again.
He heard a low grunt of pain on the other side of one of the shipping containers and quickly hopped over it to see two shipping yard security guards on the ground, one unconscious, the other groaning in pain. Both had steady heartbeats, but there was a faint smell of electricity in the air, and burnt hair.
“Sir?” He dropped to one knee.
The security guard grunted. “The… the bracelet…” was all he managed before passing out. Clark set his jaw before picking them both up and quickly moving them back to a safer location where hopefully their coworkers would find them, then followed the sound of Scoops’ hover-mag whirring as quietly as he could, realizing there was now a metallic resonant quality to the sound—it was coming from inside one of the shipping containers. The sound of the hover-mag had stilled to one location. He reached the source—a shipping container at the very edge of the pier, the doors were swung open. Clark leaned in to peek inside. There were a couple of crates scattered around the interior of the shipping container, of varying age and make.
Unconsciously, Clark set his feet back on the ground.
There was a woman in the shipping container, her back to him, thin hands clasped around Scoops’s chassis as the drone’s single camera eye stared down at her as if to say, ‘Now what?’ Slung across the woman’s back was a chunky chrome gun that seemed nearly as big as her whole torso, but what really caught Clark’s eye was the gleaming art deco spider bracelet on her wrist. All the guard had said to Clark was ‘the bracelet,’ which made wariness prickle on the back of his neck. Why the guard would mention the bracelet rather than the almost comically huge gun was beyond him. So… she wasn’t friendly, probably. But still, he knew he didn’t understand the situation, and just because someone had a very very big scary gun, and had probably knocked out two security guards, that didn’t mean they were incapable of reasonable discussion.
“Ma’am, I’m going to have to ask for that drone back,” he said, putting his hands on his hips, before pausing for a second, and adding, “Please.”
She turned to face him and he froze.
She was in a sleek black outfit, with a cropped black jacket, a low-cut, side-slit black dress over charcoal web-patterned leggings, and short boots. Her hair was bleached white and probably medium length, though it was hard to tell, with short blunt bangs at the front and the back swept up into two sleek, asymmetrical victory rolls. She turned around and gave him a too-familiar catlike little smile on too-red lips, the construction of her face utterly unmistakeable.
“Lois…?” The name came out of him dumbly and he immediately realized Superman always called her ‘Ms. Lane,’ always. She had Lois’s fierce pixie features, looked to be a handful of years older, but there was a sense of both sharp awareness and unfathomable exhaustion behind her eyes that filled him with dread. She had seen things—things she could never bring to share with another human being. It was an exhaustion he caught in his own face in the mirror sometimes, when he had been Superman for just a little too long that day, and the awareness that the world was just so much was weighing on him heavier and heavier.
That catlike smile turned pitying. “Very close, Boy Scout,” she said, before, with a shift of her shoulders, she slung that massive gun down to her hip and hauled it up to point at him.
“Okay,” Clark put his hands up, “Ma’am, I think you should know, you’re not the first—”
She blasted him in a blinding ray of neon coral and day-glo yellow, the force of it slamming him into the shipping container behind him, the steel buckling with a protesting shriek at his impact. Clark still wasn’t sure how his invulnerability worked, exactly, but in that moment, when that beam first hit him, full on in the torso (Surface area—again with the surface area), the image of the charred remains of a skeleton flashed to his mind and his train of thought became a throbbing panicked heartbeat of ‘This would kill a human, this would kill a human, this would kill a human.’ He wasn’t sure if it was 3 seconds or an eternity had passed before the beam ceased and he practically peeled off of the side of the shipping container to drop on the ground with a sad thud.
“The BG-80 Toastmaster,” said the woman, stepping toward him slowly, “Courtesy of Earth-Zero. With some modifications.”
Clark struggled to his elbows and knees and coughed, smoke rising off of him.
She tsk-tsked. “Oh you are squishier in this universe, aren’t you?”
“Look,” Clark’s voice was thick, and it took some effort to raise his head and one hand from the ground to try to motion at her in an ‘I mean no harm’ gesture,  “I know the League of Lois Lanes doesn’t trust me, but whatever’s happening—”
“You think I’m with the League?” she said with a bitter laugh in her voice. She blasted him again. In the back.
Somewhere in the mind-numbing blaze of pain and the sensation of the concrete crumbling underneath him as he was slammed to the ground, he thought, Huh, that really is a lot of surface area. The second blow at least managed to kick better survival instincts into gear. This isn’t your Lois, he had to tell himself, She is very much an active threat. She wants to hurt you. She has hurt you, she is hurting you, so you have to get over the face and the voice and the everything else and act so she doesn’t hurt you or someone else again. The gun—just heat vision it—just concentrate, you’re close enough and it’s big enough that you don’t have to worry too much about hitting her—no, wait—what if it explodes? You don’t know what it’s made of—
There was a series of clicks and Clark looked up at her, willing the heat behind his eyes, but the muzzle of the gun was glowing red now and again, he got caught up in that exhaustion, that pity, in her face. She wasn’t with the League of Lois Lanes? Then what did she want? Why was she here? And what did Scoops of all things have to do with it all?
“Don’t worry,” she said dispassionately, “I’m not hitting you with anything you can’t take.”
“But—” Clark started. But she fired again. The blast wasn’t that overwhelming neon this time, but red, red, red. And then everything went black.

She would absolutely be perfect but let's get one thing straight: If there's a person on this show who knows when to mind their own fucking business, it's LOIS🤷🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean both Chloe and Lois make valid points, she's 17 and while I totally understand why Abby did it, it really is a bit concerning. Especially considering her mother has been pushing her to do it for the last 3 years😬
I got a comment from a helpful user under my post for last episode (ty🥰), apparently Jason is roughly the same age as Lex?? And he started dating Lana when she was 17?? AND HE'S THE FKN ASSISTANT COACH AT SCHOOL?

Amazon (Smallville) : Short Story - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
“Why me.”
Diana warned you to lay low.
When she brought you here, you promised that you would be on your best behavior. Maybe she just saw something in you that was similar to herself when she was young.
That’s why you made a promise to always make her proud.
That was a bit difficult given your temper.
Being an amazon probably didn’t help.
Despite all that, you tried your hardest to stay out of trouble. You got great grades. You kept your friend group small. You tried to blend in the best you could and avoid being anywhere in the vicinity of those guys.
“Chloe Sullivan, Clark Kent, (Y/N) Prince.”
The second you heard the call for groups, you could feel your annoyance rise. Clark sent you a smile, in which you returned with a glare. He raised a brow, looking away awkwardly.
“Hey Chloe, is it me or is she glaring at us?”
Chloe looked over to see your frown.
“It’s just you.” She replied happily.
You sighed heavily, turning your head as you tried to listen to the instructions for the project.
It’s not like you hated Clark and his group of friends. It’s just that trouble seemed to follow that crew around. After you almost got suspended for scaring a bully, you were already walking on thin ice. You didn’t want to try your luck, and now you were teamed up with this duo.
Just great.
~
“So I was thinking since Clark is such good friends with a certain billionaire we can just ask him for help. “
“Chloe, we can’t just use Lex whenever we get one of these projects.”
“Come on Clark, what’s the use of having a billionaire in your pocket if you never use him.”
Sitting in the Talon, they just went back and forth like that for who knows how long.
You were trying to get through as much of your book as possible. Which was a great distraction from them.
“Hey, isn’t your mom like a millionaire activist?”
“She’s not my mother.”
Your harsh tone caught Chloe's attention, and you clenched your fist to control yourself.
“You're a brilliant warrior, but your temper is your greatest ail. You need to learn to control it.”
Diana’s words echoed, and you let out a breath.
“Let me know what you plan to do.”
Standing, you started packing away your books as you left. They both watched you walk away.
“I think I upset her. Family must be a touchy subject.” Chloe states.
Clark still looks a bit distant. He’s seen you around a lot, but he’s never had an actual conversation. Now that he really thinks back, it feels like you’ve been everywhere that he wasn’t. Given his track record he’s not that surprised.
That evening when he visits Lex, he can’t help but bring up the conversation.
“Someone in Smallville that doesn’t like a kent. That’s hard to believe.” Lex teases. Clark looks unamused.
“I’m serious Lex. It seems like she hates me or something. We have this big project and I’m wondering if we should just get a change of partners.”
“Well if you do that she’ll definitely hate you.”
“What, why?”
“Think about it, she’ll know that you asked for different partners.”
“You’re right.”
That would definitely make the situation worse.
“Have you tried talking to her? There might be a reason she dislikes you. Maybe something happened.”
He can’t remember ever having a negative encounter with you.
Regardless, it wouldn’t hurt.
The following day Clark intends to do just that.
He’d spent the better part of the day trying to track you down. It’s only after the school lets out that he catches sight of you. You’re sitting on the bleachers with your backpack. The field is empty, and it looks like you’re doing homework.
Now was his chance.
“Hey!”
You turn your head, and your expression goes sour the second you see him. Closing your book, you begin packing away your things. Clark stops when he’s standing closer.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“That’s okay. I was just leaving.”
You heave the bag on your shoulder, and Clark steps forward, blocking your way.
“Move.”
Now he’s sure he isn’t imagining it. The hostility was definitely directed at him.
“Why don’t you like me?”
Your frown deepens, because it’s obvious he won’t move until you give him an answer.
“You have the scent of a god.”
Clark froze.
“That’s why I’ve always been weary of you.”
He’s clearly caught off guard.
“At first I thought I was imagining it. Because I left home, I just assumed I was manifesting it for comfort. But then I spoke to Diana. As it turns out I have a gift for detecting strong beings. You aren’t of this planet, are you?”
Your speech has changed significantly, and now Clark is the one who is weary. But he’s unsure of what. The fact that you don’t seem afraid that he might be an alien, or that you’re so confident that you know his secret.
“I don’t know what you mean.”
His best option is to feign obliviousness. You just smile. One that displays a level of understanding. He has to say, it’s the first time he’s truly seen you wear an expression that isn’t cold or serious.
“I get why you would try to hide it, we all just want to be normal.”
You sound a lot more like a high school student now. Clark swallows.
“I can sense how different you are. Maybe that’s why you get into so many tough situations. Initially I thought you just had bad luck. But I’ve read some of the reports and I can feel it now that we’re speaking. Your sense of justice seems to outweigh everything else. You’re trying to fix the world, just like Diana.”
Clark is still silent.
“Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. See you tomorrow Clark.”
Nothing else is said, you just walk away and Clark is left contemplating everything.
Safe to say the continuation of that project is a bit tense.
The assignment to find and interview a corporate manager of your choice was easy. Chloe had finally relented when Clark insisted he didn’t want to bother Lex. So you all had chosen a random establishment. You did your part, and you didn’t miss the subtle looks Clark kept sending your way.
Now sitting in the library as you all put the information into a paper, his glances are much harder to mask. At one point you catch him. He does his best to look away and you just sigh.
“I’m going to get a drink.” You inform. Chloe nods, typing away vigorously. Clark lifts his head, and when you break the corner, he stands.
“I’m gonna grab a snack.”
Chloe barely acknowledges, waving her hand off.
Clark rushes off to the back where the vending machine is located.
“Are you following me now?”
You appear behind him.
He flinches, turning to you.
“N-No I was just getting a snack.”
He points at the vending machine. You don’t believe a word he says.
“Your friends, they don’t know, do they?”
His intention is to fully deny it, but it’s clear that any lie he intends to present would not work. He doesn’t like how easily you seem to see right through him.
“They don’t.”
He finally admits.
“I can’t imagine it being easy, masking as a mortal. Although I can’t say that I’ve met a being like you before.”
You circle him in interest and he turns with you a bit awkwardly.
“You’re not a witch, or a demigod, at least not like Diana.”
You take a step, sniffing and he lifts his hand.
“A-Are you smelling me?”
You nod, moving back, eyes wide with awe.
“You’re a Kryptonian…”
Clark looks alarmed at how quick you made such a connection.
“How do you know that!”
He half whispers half yells as he takes your arm and begins to guide you out the back.
You stumble for a second, clearly taken by surprise. His strength is impressive. Before you even get to the door, you grab his wrist. He’s stunned when you spin him around and pin him to the wall. He grunts, face now pressed to the wall at the force and your eyes are once again hard.
“I don’t enjoy being handled, kryptonian.”
He realizes now that he’s underestimated your strength.
He can’t get free, and you finally release him.
There goes your temper again.
“Sorry.” You mumble.
Clark massages his wrist, then shakes his head. It’s been instinct for him to be guarded. No one has ever made him this quickly without at least catching a glimpse of his powers.
“I should apologize. I’m just not used to people knowing my secret.”
That you can understand.
“I’ve read about you. Encounters from my ancestors. You smell alien. So my evaluation is that you’re either kryptonian or martian. The other galaxies are a lot further. Certain species tend to avoid earth due to its atmosphere. Your kind has a better tolerance. The sun enhances your abilities. “
Clark isn’t used to someone knowing this much about him.
“You don’t have to worry. I’m not going to say anything.”
There’s that code switch again. It always seems to take him by surprise. He doesn’t sense any kind of malice, but he’s learned that it’s never smart to just trust random beings. Especially ones that held strength that rivals his own.
“Why would you help me?”
It’s not a bad question. Given how you’ve acted around him, you shouldn’t be surprised that he’s questioning your motives.
“Because spilling your secret wouldn’t exactly do me a whole lot of good. Besides..” You look away a bit bashfully.
“My mother told me once that Kryptonians are usually very loyal. I don’t see a reason that I shouldn’t trust you.”
Clark deflates. Because just a second ago you looked like you would punch a hole in him.
Now you’re almost blushing and he can’t help but think that it’s cute. It’s apparent that he’ll have to put his trust in you. Because given the situation there isn’t really anything he can do.
It’s obvious that with you, nothing is as it seems.

J2 Gold Panel DC Con 2023
To start off the panel Jared notices that a fan's shirt says the only thing they're putting jeans and boots on for this weekend is food, whiskey, and Jensen Ackles, and he says he takes his jeans off for Jensen...sir in front of everyone 👀
First question comes from a fan who got them candy but Jensen throws Jared's so Jared has to go get them 😆 For anyone confused this is because the fan got Jared Twizzlers since he said he liked them at the last con but Jensen doesn't like them and prefers red vines.
What snacks do they eat when watching the football game?
Jensen answers chips and salsa.
Jared says he has a funny story, when they worked together they did an ep about a lucky penny, and one Sunday Tom Welling who was still doing Smallville went over and they did a BBQ, and Tom brought some family salad recipe that had Doritos in it and some maui ribs and some other stuff, so they eat then a couple days later Jared comes home late from work or something and he's a little hungry so he goes to the fridge and sees the Maui ribs that Tom had brought over. He snacked on them, went to bed, and didn't realize until the next morning that the ribs had been raw. I literally screamed when he said this, as y'all can guess he was dog sick.
And Jensen says the problem is that Jared didn't realize they were uncooked until he asked him about them! They lived together at the time so Jensen got home looking for the ribs cause he wanted to cook them and when he asked Jared about them Jared replied he ate them well he knows Jared and he knows he isn't going to fire up the grill when he's hungry he just eats but he still asks how he cooked them, and that's when Jared tells him he didn't cook them he just ate them.
How do you make a mistake like this??? 😭
So, poor Jared is sick as a dog, and the next day they're filming in Squamish, the whole ride there he's trying not to throw up. He gets there, they look at him, and send him to his trailer. Then they call a nurse to give him a shot of vitamin B and some other stuff so most of the coverage of them when they're in the booth talking to each other when Jensen is talking it's not to him he was in his trailer for like 8hrs throwing up and with diarrhea.
Jensen says he was like "I don't want him projectile vomiting unto me, get him out off here and get a stand in and put a wig on the guy."
Then he jokes that he realized how much better the experience is so for the next 8 seasons he didn't work with the guy and Jared quips but they still lived together. x
Something interesting is that Jensen says they were roommates for all of s4, but Jared says 5 as well and Jensen's like no, it was only one season but that if Jared wants to stretch it into 2 that's fine and Jared goes 4 to 12. Like seasons 4 to 12. And I just find it a very interesting exchange especially Jared's reaction when Jensen tries to deny that they lived together for more than one season he throws his hands up and goes 'fine, fine' like how one does when you know someone is lying about something or remembering incorrectly but you're not gonna argue with them about it.
If they could give each other stripper or porn names what would they be?
Jensen and I had the same confusion cause we both thought this person was saying board games 🤣
Jensen first understood board games, then it was porn games and he was like who ordered an extra sausage on their pizza to which Jared raises his hand and Jensen goes "it's a spicy meatball" and Jared replies "two of them". 😂
Jared says Moosetacular has a certain je ne sais quoi and Jensen says Mooseknuckle. Jensen asks if there isn't a certain formula to figure out your porn name and the fans give different answers but Jared says they're doing the name of their first pet and the name of the street they grew up on so he is Booty Montclair. That's actually fantastic. And Jensen is Pudgy Midway. x
Did Jared ever get his knee fixed?
Jared says no but he's there and loving it. He's treating it with physical therapy and rehabbing it. Jensen says Jared is learning to live with it much like he did with him. And can I just say he does not look happy he even kind of cuts Jared off when he's finishing answering the question and picks out the next fan to ask something. I think he wishes Jared would take care of it which is understandable, he's probably worried about him, but I gotta say I understand where Jared is coming from for not having the surgery sometimes the remedy is worse than the sickness. x
Is cereal a soup?
Jared says no. Jensen says technically yeah, it's just grain soup, or multigrain soup.
Jared says that you cook soup but the crowd points out gazpacho which is an uncooked, cold soup.
Jensen says he doesn't know if there are milk-based soups, there is cream sometimes in soup but it's traditionally in a broth base, there has to be some sort of broth but someone mentions clam chowder and that has a cream base so Jensen says the fan is right.
Jared asks the fan what they think and they say it is a soup like a hot dog is a sandwich and that's when he loses the crowd and also Jensen who says no. And Jared pats Jensen's chest to calm him down. x
How often do they think about the Roman Empire?
They both know they're being asked this for a reason but Jared doesn't know what the reason is, Jensen does because he had been asked this the previous night for the first time. He answers several times a week. But he hadn't thought about that until he was asked.
Jared says he doesn't think about it unless maybe if he's in Rome but Jeensen tells him to think about all the things that he does think about that are related to the Roman empire so he might not even realize that he's thinking about it.
For context, the reason they were asked about this is because it's a TikTok trend right now to ask men how often they think about the Roman Empire because apparently, men think about the Roman Empire a lot. x
Have they ever been star-struck meeting another celeb?
Jensen says Jared is a big fan of Pearl Jam, and they went to a charity concert where the lead singer of the band, Eddie Vedder was performing and they got the chance to meet him, after he played, in a very intimate setting probably no more than the people in the room at that moment. So they walk up and someone introduces them, and Jared just stiffens up and Jensen's trying to play it cool, and Eddie in true rock and roll fashion is smoking a cigarette. Jared, who does not smoke, asks if he can get a drag of the cigarette, Jensen just turns to look at him, and Eddie slowly hands him the cigarette so Jared grabs it out of his hand, takes a puff of the cigarette, coughs, and goes to hand it back and Eddie goes "you keep it" so Jensen told him it was nice to meet him, walked Jared to the parking lot and they left.
Jared says he left, went home and flew back to Van at like 6am and was like "I always wish I wouldn't act like that" x
If there were a movie made about their lives who would they want playing them?
Jensen jokes Barry Watson would play Jared. Jared shares the story about how one time Sandy was flying from LA to go visit him in Van and the guy she was sitting next to asked what she was traveling for, she said she was going to visit her boyfriend, guy asked what the boyfriend does she tells him he's filming a show called Supernatural that just started, and the guy says he has seen it and asks if her boyfriend is the short one or the one from 7th Heaven. He thought Jared was Barry Watson.
Jensen goes Meryl Streep cause she can do anything.
Jared says Meryl Streep and Daniel Day-Lewis could play Jensen better than Jensen. x
Next fan challenges Jensen to rock, paper, scissors.
Jensen wins with scissors. x
What is a sports moment they wish they could go back and change or are still mad about?
Jensen says he has two. First, when he was in the 9th-grade basketball team there was a very important game and they needed a win. He stole the ball and had a breakaway layup on the other end, he thought he was gonna be king of the school but he airballed it which means he missed the shot. He wishes he could take that back. The second moment was in his senior year he was on the baseball team and he was batting against a guy who went on to have a very long career in the major leagues. The guy was Kerry Wood, he's a pitcher and he was throwing 90 mph as an 18-year-old.
So they have a runner on first and he looks down the third base coach to get his signal cause they give him a signal on what to do and basically through signals they told him he was gonna send the runner to steal second but they needed him to swing away to rob the catcher from throwing him out on second base so he was supposed to swing the ball but Wood's threw a 90+ mph fastball that he never saw. The runner got thrown out on second base, Jensen struck out, and the coach was not happy.
Jared says he thinks it says something about them that they don't remember game-winning goals cause what he remembers is when he was like 11 or 12yrs old- if you get fouled in basketball while shooting you get two shots but sometimes the foul count is at like 8 and you get a foul dribbling which means you get a one-one so you get the first shot and you can get a second shot so he got a one-one and shot the free throw and missed which meant the ball was still in play. But everybody is standing around waiting for him to make the second shot which he wasn't entitled to but he realizes nobody was aware the ball was still in play so he tells his team mate who the ball had bounced over to to pass it to him and he drives straight down the lane and he missed the layup so the other team got the score.
As somebody who knows nothing about sports this was very confusing.
Also, Jensen was trying to ask Jared a question about this and Jared wasn't understanding so Jensen just slaps his arm to get his attention. x
And that was the Gold panel! Real quickly I want to mention that according to the fan who recorded this panel Jensen was checking up on Jared prior to going on the stage to make sure he was okay because this is a very emotional con.
For those who may still not know Krista, also known as Kreespa, who has provided the fandom with wonderful panel recordings over the years was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer and this was the last convention she was attending so it was dedicated to her. That's why you'll see them wearing a green shirt that says Kristacon on it.

A family member recently just finished Smallville for the first time. Reminded me of some bullshit from the garbage that was the live action, loose adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths (not to be confused with the garbage animated adaptation the TomorrowVerse movies are in the middle of.)
So Smallville ends in 2011. The finale happens, the “no flights, no tights” rule that dictated the series’ run is done and Clark is finally Superman. Clark and Lois don’t get married in 2011 because of Darkseid (I think.) the series flashforwards to 2018 when they’re finally about to get married. It ends with Clark about to jump off the Daily Planet, opening his shirt to reveal the Superman crest and go do Superman things. It’s a nice ending.
The show continues on as Smallville: Season 11 in the comics and Clark gets to do all the things he couldn’t do on the show, like interact with Wonder Woman and Batman and do all the things it would’ve been too tricky or expensive to CGI in live action. Haven’t read it but the people I know who’ve read it liked it well enough.
Enter 2019. The Arrowverse is doing their highly teased, “in no way are we trying to copy Infinity War/Endgame” event with Crisis on Infinite Earths. Biggest crossover they’ve ever done. Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman…but wait, there’s more! They’re bringing in Black Lightning and featuring ALL the cameos…that they can. Batman ‘66, Birds of Prey, LUCIFER, Titans, Doom Patrol, even nods to Batman ‘89 and having the GOAT Kevin Conroy makes his only live action Batman appearance, albeit as a BvS/Kingdom Come hybrid Batman. Heck, they even took Brandon Routh, a regular on Legends of Tomorrow as the Atom and let him be Superman from Superman Returns again, although he’s now turned into Kingdom Come Superman. The event overall sucks ass but it’s great if you’re a fan and you’ve come for the Easter Egg palooza.
So at one point they go to the Smallville Earth. The Lex Luthor from Supergirl is going around to all the Earths and killing all the Supermen that he can. It’s a subplot that takes way too long and detracts too much from the main story but Jon Cryer was still fun to watch and I respected the level of hater his Lex was. One of my favorite bits is his Lex being so dense, saying that it’d be ridiculous for Clark Kent to be Superman on his Earth because he’s a bumbling buffoon. Anyway, Lex is standing up to Beef Wellington (Candice Patton’s words), holding up a piece of Kryptonite, trying to get about his business of killing Superman. Only it has no effect. Clark plucks it from is hands and chucks it halfway across the farm. Lex is befuddled. Smallville Clark explains Kryptonite has no effect on him since he gave up his powers. Lex gets enraged that someone with the powers of a god would do such a thing and doesn’t understand why, until he accidentally steps and crushes a children’s toy. Clark gave up his powers for his kids. Lex tries to attack him anyway, Clark counters and knocks his ass down. Lex leaves saying they’re all dead anyway. We’re given one last scene of Clark walking off, holding hands with Lois (don’t think about how Erica Durance was also Supergirl’s Mom at the start of the crossover) and that’s the last we see of him.
So basically, fans watched 10 years of Smallville to see how Clark Kent became Superman, he’s finally Superman at the end of the show and then he stopped being Superman offscreen 7-8 years later. I feel like Tom Welling probably just didn’t want to suit up for a crossover cameo and that’s totally valid, but still. What the fuck.

HI! Okay. I know you already got a question about fic recs a month or so ago, but I've gotta ask. Do you have any Clex fic recs that aren't super Smallville-centric? I could never get into Smallville and am thus the most oppressed clex shipper ever /j
But! Yes! Do you happen to have any suggestions for stuff like that? I super don't mind if Smallville is canon to the fics, but stuff where it's not the main centerpiece is soooo slay *twirls hair*
you've got me operating on hard mode here because, as you said, most clex fic is pretty heavily based on smallville, but i think i at least have a few set post-series where the comics influence is a lot more prevalent, so hopefully some of these will be to your taste!
Looking Glass County by Astolat
this one is a universe swap fic where the smallville version of lex (post-series) gets switched with his comics counterpart. i don't think it necessarily takes a lot of smallville knowledge to follow it, since it's not super canon-compliant anyway, and it's really interesting to see how the characters bounce off of each other. if you like astolat's writing style, you might also like Revenge, Moving On, and/or Reconcilable Differences, all by the same author and all with mixed comics influences. (to the best of my memory, all of them are comics-y enough to follow without watching much smallville.)
Useful Arts by rivkat
this one is technically a sex pollen story but it's a very plot-heavy one and the sex pollen elements are really only present for the first half of the fic. rivkat's stuff is some of my favorite and i love their characterization for lex. most of their other fic (to the best of my memory) is more obviously based off of smallville, so this is really the only one i can rec for someone looking for comics-inspired characterization.
Counting the Days by tasabian
lex goes to prison for a crime he didn't commit. clark goes undercover to investigate. the premise is very fun, and it doesn't really lean on smallville lore too heavily. their fic tends to pull a lot from the comics as well as the DCAU, so even though all of them are labeled with smallville exclusively, they really use more of a blend of canon from various different sources, so i'd rec pretty much any of their works.
An Alienated Property by Kantayra
lex and clark trapped on a red sun planet together. this one was on my other fic rec post as a "comics" fic (even though it's tagged with smallville) but i wanted to include it here too because i just love the whole "red sun planet" trope that much. to my memory, all of their fic except for "Clark's Secret" are set post-series and can be read as comics-based.
Wien's Law by obscureshipyard
this fic is mostly a series of one-shots that are mostly a mix of character study and smut, so there's not a lot of plot to summarize, but notably, the lex in this fic is a trans man, which does feature pretty prominently, if that affects whether or not it interests you. this is the only fic on this list that is exclusively comics-based, specifically not using the backstory of lex growing up in smallville. this author's other stuff is a mix of smallville and comics-based, but i haven't read any of the rest of it, personally.
i'm sure there's plenty more out there because god knows i've only scratched the surface of their ao3 tag, but from a quick look through my bookmarks, these are the main ones that jumped out at me as being divorced enough from the events of the smallville to be enjoyable for a comics-only fan.
